Toshiba Satellite A300-1BZ - White Screen on boot up

Question: Toshiba Satellite A300-1BZ - White Screen on boot up

Hello All, my laptop has started behaving a little bizarrely! 6 times out of 10 boot ups my laptop screen is white. If I connect my machine to a monitor then my desktop is visible and works perfectly normally? If I restart then maybe my screen comes back, maybe not. There seems to be no reason for it, totally random?? Or is it ??? Could anyone offer any insight?
Many thanks,

Preferred Solution: Toshiba Satellite A300-1BZ - White Screen on boot up

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I have this problem with Toshiba satellite A300.

I deleted many files and folders from my C and E drives. On restarting the computer, it only shows the Toshiba logo then a blank screen slightly gray on close inspection. Whenever I press the CRL + ALT + DEL keys, the computer restarts and behaves in the same manner.

I have tried using an external monitor but there is no difference. On trying to boot using a CD/DVD, same behaviour happens, it won't boot from it and screen remains blank after the Toshiba logo, I have even tried changing g the boot order but to no avail.

What could be happening?
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Re: satellite A300 screen goes blank after toshiba logo, won't boot from CD/DVD

It looks like you removed system folders and Windows doesn't boot anymore. Have you tried to restore the factory settings from hdd image or recovery disk? Or make Windows copy installation... It's easier to reinstall it rather fixing the problem.

When I turn on my laptop, after big logo of Toshiba in red i should go to Windows but it just stop and i only see a black page and nothing happens after that, even if i wait for ages, that black page stays same.

I don't know what to do?

I have quite a weird issue that I haven't encountered before.

When the laptop is turned on, you get the Toshiba splash screen, hitting f2 gets you in to the bios, f12 gets you to the boot menu, both these menus work fine.

However, anything past this just results in a black screen, for example, if I was to choose network boot as the first boot option, or cd-rom, or hdd!

I have tried the following troubleshooting steps

1. Removed HDD/DVD and tried to network boot - nothing
2. Reset BIOS to factory defaults, checked boot items were set correctly
3. Removed ram and fitted known working ram, tried both slots
4. Removed battery and drained the static
5. Attempted recovery of the bios using floppy disk (results in same black screen when trying to boot to it)

No bios updates have been ran previous to this, all the client tried to do was connect the laptop to a projector.

Any Ideas?

Answer:Satellite A300 - No activity after Toshiba splash screen

Hi Jon Roberts,

Why you want to update the BIOS?

If nothing works after the Toshiba screen it seems to be a hardware malfunction. You should contact nearest authorized service provider to get professional help. The guys can check the notebook and repair it.
Furthermore on the Toshiba website you can find a list of all ASPs.

Good luck! :)

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-1BZ Blank screen after Toshiba logo

Windows may be corrupted. Have you tried booting from a Bootable CD? For example, try the Memtest ISO from

Directly after you see the Toshiba logo, press F8 a few times to access the Windows Boot Menu, and try booting into Safe Mode.

If you can get into safe mode, run CHKDSK C: /F to check for file system errors, then reboot normally.
If that doesnt work, then go back into Safe Boot and restore the PC back to a previous state using System Restore.

Wow what a long post? lol.

Try running memtest (burn it to disk and allow it to run at bootup; may need to change your BIOS settings to boot from CD/DVD rom). The error you are getting (BC Code 7f) could spell faulty or failing give this test a try and see if you get any errors after running a few passes.

Simple Story...

Laptop fell down from about 2 - 2.5 feet and when I tried to turn it on again the screen went blank. I mean, it's blank right now, the only way I can use the laptop is if I connect it to a standard monitor, but alone it will just show a white display.

Any suggestions on what this can be? messed up VC? maybe Busted LCD? Dunno at this point any suggestions/solutions/help is appreciated .

upon turning on the laptop the screen will turn white if you hold around the frame in certain areas it will sometimes work but then if the monitor if it is bumped or moved it will go back white....I'm wondering if it is a loose cable issue or something else. Can someone please advise me on this?

Answer:my toshiba satellite l655 laptop screen is all white

You could check the cable connector at the screen end but from what you've said most likely it is a screen fault. The connector at either end of the cable can give issues, as can the cable itself. Mostly the cable goes bad around where it hinges and often when you move the lid down to nearly closed you see the picture come and go or flicker.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Answer:Toshiba satellite P300 (-1CD) won't boot past toshiba splash screen.

Perform the following steps:
-Remove the battery and Power adapter
-Press and hold the power button for 30-45 seconds (with battery and power still removed)
-Insert just the battery and attempt to boot the laptop.
-Insert just the power adapter and attempt to boot the laptop.

If still unsuccessful: Remember to remove battery and power before removing/installing components

-Remove the power and battery
-Remove the hard drive from the laptop and attempt to boot with the battery installed. Do you receive any error message?
-Remove the memory modules from the laptop
-Insert just the battery and attempt to start the laptop (you should receive beep error)
-Try inserting just one module of memory and test (swapping modules after each attempt)
-Remove the optical drive and test.
-Try disconnecting the CMOS battery for a few minutes then re-connect and try.

I had a problem, touch pad won't work.
I found on internet solution to shut down computer, take out battery, wait a little bit, and start again.
That is when my problems start.

When I placed battery back on, i turned on the laptop.
Blank screen (nothing happens), led indicators are on (except for hdd), cd drive tries to read but nothing happens, and the fan is on.
I tried everything that I could find (wait for 30 min, take battery out, start without battery, etc...) but no luck.

My lap top is Satellite A300-1lt, and I had it for 2 months.
I don't want to take it to service, unless it is really necessary, because i really need it now, I can't wait for weeks until it is returned.

Can please somebody help me out, Im desperate....

Thanks in advantage...

Answer:Satellite A300-1LT won't boot up - blank screen & no HDD activity

Connect your notebook (with battery) to the AC power supply and leave it an hour and try to start your notebook again. If notebook starts again leave it running until the battery will be full charged again.

I hope it will work properly again. I have had similar problem with my Satellite A300-1LI and I have do this. Now notebook runs perfectly with and without AC adapter.

I have an A300-1GS,

Today it froze up, mouse pointer disappeared, and the keyboard did not work.

I held the power button to turn it off.

When I went to boot it back up again, it would either boot up for 2 seconds and turn off or it would boot but the screen doesnt work. It just stays black. Cant access anything. I've tried using a TV cord sync but nothing shows up on the tv.

I've tried removing the battery and putting it back in, but that doesnt work. "

Can someone please please help me, all of my university work is on there.

Answer:Satellite A300-1GS blank screen, boot problems

Disconnect notebook from the AC adaptor and remove the battery. After a while try to start your notebook with AC power supply only.
Can you see anything on the screen?
Is Toshiba welcome screen shown?

My laptop Satellite A60-106 has developed some problem on boot up. It just freezes onto a white screen on boot up before I see any graphics. It looks as though it can access the DVD/CD drive but any attempt to boot up with a recovery disc fails in the same white screen and it freezes. I have tried the manufacturers advice as powering up with the F12 key pressed and another suggestion on the
CD to hold the C key down whilst turning on the power brings the same result.

Nothing but the white screen. I have tried F8 to see if I can get into safe mode but it won't move on past the initial clunking of the drives and then silence. I can't think of any way to get this to allow me to move on. I am sure you can though? I would be happy to format and reload but if I can't access the drive then how can I do that?

I wanted to increase the RAM but all of the suggestions in the hand book do not relate to the layout of my laptop. The small access window on the bottom of the laptop will not allow enough access to the RAM? Poking about around the RAM might have induced this white screen lock out?

Answer:Satellite A60 - White Screen Freeze on Boot up

Hello Charlie

To be honest you have serious problem and I really do not believe you can solve it alone. It is not easy to say for sure why white display occurs at the boot up. In my opinion there can be several reasons responsible for this.
- Display (display cable, LCD electronic)
- as far as I know white screen occurs if FL inverter makes background light but there is no display signal ? it can be some defect on mainboard and there is no video signal

The best thing you can do is to contact authorized service provider. Let them check your notebook. They have special tools and there is no problem to find out why this happen.

Good evening,

about 1 hour, monitor of my satellite a300 the monitor has white lines at the bottom.
I try to shutdown, change resolution but just i turn on my notebook the screen has this white line.

it's a monito'rs problem or videocar's problem?

sorry for my ebglish

Answer:Satellite A300-1IL - monitor has white lines at the bottom

> it's a monito'rs problem or videocar's problem?
This is easy to say; you have to connect external monitor to the notebook and should check if the same lines where available on second, external screen.

If the lines were visible on external monitor, then the GPU fault is possible.
Otherwise it could be internal screen malfunction.

That depends on the cost and also on how you wish to use the laptop. The RAM seems ok, I think the most that a 32bit system will recognise is about 3.25gb or RAM.

Hi there this is my first post would like to say hi. I have 7 installed on my desktop and Im loving it so far. I wish it were the same for my laptop though..

Its a Toshiba A300 (model PSAG4C-05U01C) it came pre-loaded with vista 64 and did not come with any driver/or refresh cd whatsoever.

I would like to do a clean install of 7, but im not sure if I'll have driver issues with this hardware. I cant seem to find anything specifically for 7, can someone point me to the right direction pls?

Also theres seems to be the odd time ill run into the odd app that only runs on 32bit. Would you guys recommend using a 32bit version? or is it better to stick with 64 w/ this laptop?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A300

A quick look at your system specs: I would say it should run Windows 7 just fine. I would go with 64bit that is the wave of the future. Many 32bit older applications will run on Windows 7 x64, however there are some that just don't work.

well i was confident of this when i began but when i run the wxp cd it loads all its stuff and i select the option to install wxp then you should goto the screen where you format the hdd but it politely informs me:

Set up did not find ant hard disk drives installed on your computer.

Make sure any HDD are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and any hard disk related hardware configuration is correct. this may involve running a manafacturer supplied diagnostic or setup program.

set up cannot continue press f3 to goto i mean quit setup

when i press f3 windows loads up.
Please help

Installing XP on a SATA drive requires an additional step:

However, Most newer BIOS allow an Alternate method for SATA . . Go into the bios and check the "Sata Operation" setting,

change it to "Raid Autodetect/ATA if it is not already. Now try to install XP ( could be IDE Mode, Compatibility Mode or Legacy Mode - different BIOS use different terms )

some will say IDE instead of ATA)

If there are no such settings you'll need to slipstream the sata drivers on the XP CD, follow the instructions in this guide :

1. the webcam utility , is there a way to disable it sidebar and just live with its icon tray?

2. Toshiba Notification icon tray , can I get rid of that ?? it doesnt show any notification , but the icon still there , dunno why and its annoys me.

3. what does the TRDCReminder & TRORDCLauncher do ? what are these installed software (on the Add/Remove of the windows) do ?!

4. I dont use the DVD Player , DiscCreator and Ulead of Toshiba, I have better alternatives , can I uninstall them and get'em back when I need? How?

ok, hope that me questions are clear ... have one little GOOD question here ...

*Is there any software that can read the sensors of the laptop and show them to me ? like CPU temperature , GPU Temprature , Fan RPM , HDD Temperature .. a software from Toshiba itself and really can do the job ? 3rd party softwares not helping much in the case of the laptop apparently ...*

Answer:Satellite A300-1G5 - Questions about the Toshiba Utilities

I will try to offer some answers. Hopefully it will help you. ;)

1. No. as far as I know this is not possible but if you don't need this application just go to exit and stop it running in the background. You can start it again anytime you want.
2. You can disable this notification in RUN > MSCONFIG > Startup tab. I don't know how the right name is but you will find it there. Just remove check mark in front of it and this will never start again.
3. New notebook models are delivered without recovery DVD and you must make it alone. Toshiba has created small ?reminder? and this reminder should tell you ? Please don't forget to create this recovery DVD. So please do is using "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator". This installations media you can use for further Vista installation. I recommend you to use DVD-R media only. TRORDCLauncher is Recovery Disc Creator Launcher . When the recovery DVD is created you can remove both applications from the system.
4. Yes you can remove them from the system. How? Control panel > Programs and Features > there is the list of all preinstalled software. Click on application you want to remove and click on the menu on option ?Uninstall?.

You can download some third part applications like ?Speed Fan?. Please note that thisr part applications are not tested and all info you see there must not be 100% right.

Please don't download driver updates using Microsoft update option.

My laptop has developed a strange power fault, it will charge the battery while it is off but when you turn it on it seems to run off the battery then power down when the battery goes flat. All the time this is happening the AC power light is on which suggests the power is connected and all is well, the battery light shows it is fully charged until power on when it changes from white to amber.
I am going to buy a new battery as mine is not lasting very long and I need the laptop for work and can't afford to replace it right now. Any suggestions as to why the battery is getting charge but not the laptop itself.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A300 power fault.

There could be a number of reasons. A loose connection, power adapter fault etc.
Try removing the battery from the laptop and see what happens when the mains power supply are then turned back on.
You could also have a look at this link for Toshiba information
Doing a simple internet search, there appears to be a number of Toshiba laptop charging problems mentioned, with some possible solutions.
Failing that, have you tried Toshiba support and customer care?.

Reformatted hard drive and loaded xp from usb stick as dvd drive would not read windows cd. How do I load drivers as dvd drive still wont read cd and cant connect to internet to download drivers?

Answer:Solved: Toshiba Satellite A300 has no drivers

If you can find the driver for the ethernet controller, and can then get online, the other drivers will be easier to deal with. Toshiba's website is notorious for its uselessness in driver downloads so it's easier to go to the ethernet adapter's Properties in Device Manager and click the Details tab. You should be looking at the Hardware ID which will have four characters showing after VEN for Vendor and another four after DEV for device.

Note those down and go to and input the DEV code into the second of the two input boxes then hit Enter. The VEN code you have will appear in column three so you'll then know who made it and have a link to their site where you can download the right driver.

Hi ..

my friend has this laptop: Satellite A300-20P.

I'm not sure what he did, but he installed Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit, then 32-bit again. The whole thing messed up.
Anyway, he didnt make a recovery disk for his laptop (damn thing). Now, becasue I have a Toshiba laptop too I know that there is Recovery on the Harddisk on the D partition (not the windows partition). I tried to use "Repair Windows" booting Windows, when I try to restore the whole PC from a backup media it says " No backup media found", now I'm not sure if the recovery sector still available or not, because the Windows cant boot. So is there away to find the recovery media?

If this mission impossible, then I have Windows Vista Ultimate to install and I can download the drivers from the site? The problem is, how I will make recovery media when install the Windows and the drivers ?

Please this is urgent.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Satellite A300-20P - How to restore from Toshiba recovery?

To be honest I?m confused at the moment because first you wrote about a problem of your friend?s notebook and you wrote something about your own notebook where you try repair Windows.
So I don?t understand what you mean exactly.

But fact is you have two possibilities to restore factory settings:
1)Use the Toshiba HDD recovery option. You can start it if you go in advanced boot menu (F8) and select ?Repair my computer?. Then follow the screen instructions.
The first partition of the HDD will be wiped and you get factory settings back.
2)Use the Toshiba recovery disk. It?s very similar to HDD recovery option but whole HDD will be wiped (all files will be deleted). After this you have factory settings back, too.

So that?s all what you can do to restore the factory settings. If the HDD recovery option not work and you don?t have a recovery disk you have to order a new one from Toshiba directly.

Alternative you can use a Microsoft disk to install Windows and then download and install all drivers and tools from Toshiba website step by step.

Hey guys,
I've searched the forums a little to find a solution to my problem.
Having not found anything that seems to be the fix, i'm here - with my first post.

I've been looking at a friends Toshiba Satellite A300, that wont power on.
It was working fine until he purchased a new charger - a universal one.
He took the model number into the shop and was told this charger would do the job.
He told me the tip was hard to get into the charger port, he had to use force.

Since then, it hasn't powered on. He told me the charge lights were coming on, but nothing else.

I have the same model laptop as him, so we tried with my charger, my battery, still nothing.

I've taken the laptop completely apart. Re-seated everything. Still nothing.

What i noticed was that with the battery in, and my charger, when i left it charging for a while and tried to power on, it waited maybe a minute then the fan and power on lights came on for maybe 5 seconds then it died again.

Another thing i've noticed is that when it's charging with the battery in, the quick play lights near the power button work. I can press them without the laptop being on and they turn on/off except the media light, it stays on if turned on.

The only thing i have yet to try is replacing the CMOS battery.

I was wondering if anyone here has any idea what may be the problem here? It seems very odd for this to just start happening. The laptop hasn't been taken apart ... Read more

I have an A300-1MO.
Can I use any Toshiba recovery disk \?
Or is there like a specific one for my A300-1MO?

I'm like a total noob....
Somebody pls help...!

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-1MO - Can I use any Toshiba recovery disk?

No, you cannot use any Recovery disk? you have to use the recovery disk designed for this notebook model.
The point is that recovery disk contains a image. Image is a package which contains OS and Toshiba drivers?
If you would use another recovery disk then the image would be installed with not compatible drivers and this could lead to further problems?

Every new Toshiba notebook provides a Toshiba Recovery Disk creator tool. This tool can create a recovery disk?

I have Toshiba Satellite A300-1MW with BIOS 3.5 version. Can I make upgrade it to 1.7 version which i will download from Toshiba site?
Whay i want to do this?
Because I have a lot of problems with this notebook. For example:

1) Slow system loading on Compatibility mode
2) When I will set AHCI mode and install SATA drivers then loading is faster but I have problems with Critical Error

I don't know what to do :/ Maybe I have bad drivers (it is not possible because all drivers are from Toshiba site) or maybe I didn't install some drivers (there are a lot of drivers on Toshiba site, I didn't download and install all of them)

Can someone write the list of drivers which i need to install?

Thanks in advane and have a nice day.

Answer:BIOS Upgrade on Toshiba Satellite A300-1MW

Hello Tralla

As I can see you have already posted one thread with the same question and I am wondering you ask the same again.

You have these ?problems? because you didn?t install WXP properly. If you want to have well preinstalled WXP and use it with full speed use AHCI settings in BIOS and load WXP with all SATA drivers.
After doing this notebook will run fast, you will not have problems and BIOS update must not be done at all.
This theme is discussed very often on this forum and please take a little bit time and check this forum about WXP installation using SATA driver.

As the title states, I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop (If you need exact model, lmk)
that I found in an old box and could actually use an extra laptop around for schooling.
I get a blue screen off boot up as soon as windows begins to load (even before password input)
The error code is 0x0000008e and I have tried most remedies.
Last Known Good Config - dies
reset to older date - dies
Memtest - clean
I feel that the motherboard is either fried or a deep issue is happening.
If I can find the OS cds, would a reformat/install be the best way to go?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Blue Screen on Boot Up

What do you mean by reset to older date? you mean System Restore?
1. Try to choose the earliest date on the system restore and  see if it works.
2. Try to do a start-up repair on the windows cd first before you try to format.
it could also be your Cpu, you may need to replace it and try it first before doing anything with the motherboard.
Also if you can get into safe mode, try to uninstall/update all of your drivers in Device Manager by doing this.
1. As soon as your pc starts up hit f8 till if gives you options to go into SAFE MODE.
2. Click Start- Right click Computer- Properties- on the left click Device manager. Then go through each driver and right click on it and hit uninstall and it will re install them self.

Dear all,

I have Toshiba Satellite M70, I need help and i will describe my problem:

- Few days ago my screen went black suddenly, i don't know how cause i was away from the laptop.
- Until yesterday, when i boot my laptop, it gives me black screen all the time but when i put him in standby mode by closing the notebook for few seconds and then i click the on button, my screen starts displaying fine until my next reboot and i start all over again ( i usually keep my notebook working almost 18 hours which means there's a lot of time to my next reboot)
- But Today, I booted too many times , it gives me black screen and the standby mode doesn't work anymore. But few times today when i was trying to boot, the screen displayed the Toshiba screen for only 1 second then gone black again.

P.S. You can see hardly threw the black screen everything if there is a sunlight facing the laptop.

Thank you in advance,
Best regards,
Mr. Mher Krikorian

Answer:Black Screen on boot- Toshiba Satellite M70

> You can see hardly threw the black screen everything if there is a sunlight facing the laptop
This is very useful info?
I think the issue is related to the FL inverter?
The FL-inverter is a small part which controls the display backlight.
If this part starts to malfunction then you would see everything like behind a thick fog?

In my opinion the FL inverter should be checked and replaced if necessary?
For that you have to get in contact with an local service technician?

Greets & happy new year!

I am putting Windows XP on a Toshiba Satellite A300 PSAGCA-09U01N.

I've downloaded all the drivers and installed them and now I am trying to install all the toshiba applicaion/Utilities so that they all work.
I've tried installing them in diffirent orders but keep coming up with the same problem.

The [FN]+[F1-12](Hotkeys) don't display what there doing like they should and some of them don't work at all like [FN]+[F2] and [FN]+[F6-7].

Does anyone know the correct order in which they are installed or offer any help?

I downloaded my drivers form here:

Any Help would be appreciated.

Answer:Installing Toshiba Utilities on Satellite A300 PSAGCA

You have to install the TOSHIBA Common Module
The Common Module software is necessary and should be installed at first.
In my case it worked properly on another Toshiba notebook!

PS: There is a BIOS especially for Win XP
Should use it if you running Win XP

No. the recovery disk will format the whole HDD and will erase everything from the HDD and partition.
The usage of the HDD recovery procedure will format only the C and will leave the data on the data partition.

Can I perform try to reset by leaving a memory stick in the second slot (closest to the motherboard)?

1. Welcome to Tech Support Guy
2. If you KNOW the password this is the procedure
If you know the password for the BIOS or UEFI or don't have one set, you can change or remove a password through the UEFI/BIOS settings, Hardware Setup Utility, or TOSHIBA Security Assist Utility.
As explained on the link with the sub links to the appropriate OS
3. The procedure you appear to refer to, irrespective of where you found it is - I would think part of a suggested method when you do NOT know the password.
4. If that is the case, then one of the rules of this site is

Check the Toshiba European driver page. Choose this notebook model and reinstall the Common Module

Furthermore install the Toshiba *Controls* which you could find in *PSAG8E* series!!!

Hi guys,

please do me a favour. i am in Dubai, i bought my Toshiba laptop in Dubai. That is Satellite A300-1G5, Sr.No. 98487056Q.
The problem is: whenever i try to find my laptop in Toshiba help and support web site, it is not detecting my machine.

I have tried Auto detect, putting serial no in the box, both option, but all returns with the same result---- not available in region.

Until I detect my machine I am unable to identify the exact driver and so cannot check for updates.
It is strange that Toshiba laptop is not getting found by Toshiba website.

Can anybody help me?

Answer:Satellite A300-1G5 is not detected on Toshiba support page

It can happen that system somehow cannot identify notebook model but for drivers download it is just important to know first part of the part number.
So your notebook belongs to PSAG4E series and on Toshiba download page you can define exact notebook model and see which drivers are available.

Have you tried to choose your product manually?

I recently bought a Satellite A300-15A ; model: PSAJ4E;

The laptop has 6 Multimedia keys on the top.
As described in the manual, they are supposed to perform the following funtions (left to right): (i am numbering them for convinience to mention them afterwards)
1. Mute/ LED On/Off Button
2. CD/DVD Button
3.Play/Pause Button
4.Stop Button
5.Previous Button
6.Next Button

Can someone elaborate on all the above buttons.

The only function these peform for me are as folllows;
1st Button only switches the LED off/on but does not perform any mute operation with any application (not even Windows Media Player). Even when it performs the LED off operation; only the 6 keys and the bottom 'SATELLITE' display is off; the other LED's (DC in, Powe. Battery, Disk) are still on......what is the problem and how can i start its mute operation so that i can mute the pc with any application running.

2nd button does nothing but open windows media player. What is it supposed to do exactly?

All the other keys do nothing but work on Windows Media Player. They dont work on any other application; be it VLC or any other. How can I make them work on all the media applications......

Please do elaborate and reply with solutions.

Answer:Satellite A300-15A: How does the Toshiba Control buttons work?

3-6 buttons work well also with other applications , all you have to do is to choose an actual option in Application preferences (not notebook's !).

According to the first two buttons, i got the same problems... I found out that older version of Toshiba software had "Toshiba controls" application in Control panel used to change settings for all of these button.. but now it dissappeared ;< I am already looking for any way of changing 2nd button result :) If i found out any other than changing the registry then i'll let u know here :)

@EDIT : Found it in Toshiba Assist / Optimalize/

Those processes are quite important and don't really decrease the performance of the system.

If you want to improve the performance, installing more RAM or upgrading to an SSD Drive and using an efficient Virus Scanner will have the most impact.

So I see only one solution; go back to Vista if you want to use this!

If anyone has a solution, i would be glad to hear from you ofcourse!

PS i tried installing the version for windows XP witch i downloaded from the Toshiba site, but it does not work on Vista ofcourse!

Power saver is installed under Vista too and you can find it under:
Start ? Control Panel ? System & Maintenance ? Power Options > ?Select a Power Plan? ? Change plan settings ? Change advanced power settings ? Toshiba Power Saver Settings

As you can see the settings are not like before under WXP. The fact is that most of settings are now controlled by Vista and Toshiba power saver has no much influence in power settings like before.

Did you change anything on your notebook?
I mean if your HDD recovery partition has been changed or the data o thin partition has been deleted?

To be honest for me it looks like the OS issue. I think it?s not a single tool issue but I think the operating system has been muddled up?

Maybe you should try to recover the notebook using the Toshiba HDD recovery option and after the new OS installation on the notebook you could try to create the recovery disk again.

In order to start the recovery you have to press the F8 immediately after the notebook has been powered up. Then you should choose the first option called ?Repair My Computer?.
This would lead to a new window and there you could choose ?Toshiba HDD recovery?.

But note; this recovery would format the whole HDD? so maybe you should backup some data before you would start this procedure.

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-1EB: Toshiba Control buttons & FN keys don't work on Win XP

The Satellite A300-1EB belongs to the PSAG0E series.
So please choose firstly the right notebook series before you will start to download the XP drivers.

After choosing the right notebook model you will have to reinstall the XP drivers.

The Common Module and Hotkey Utility are necessary to get the FN keys working.
The Common Modules must be installed at first.

To get the Multimedia buttons working you will have to install the ?Controls? .
I didn?t find it in the PSAG0E series but in other A300 series like PSAGCE. So check it out!

By the way: SP3 can causes some compatibility issues... so maybe you should remove it firstly!

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite M55-S329. As I tried to boot it up in the morning, the screen lighted up in a blank whitish mode and stayed this way.
Took out the battery, booted back, same blank screen.
Keyboard is responsive, I tried CTRL-ALT-DEL and it rebooted but right away back in the same blank screen.
I tried to cold boot pressing the power key 30 seconds, with no effect, gets back into the blank screen.
I put in the Recovery DVD, it begun reading it upon boot, but was stuck into the same blank screen.

My first guess and hope was this is some sort of stand-by Win-XP problem.
Now my guess is that this is a hardware problem, either a disconnected video card, or perhaps system board failure. Do you have any suggestions? ...

Last night I was working on a slideshow using windows movie maker in Vista. I had trouble getting the software to recognize my video files for my camcorder so I was suggested to try and download codec so it could play my files.... I have no idea what I was doing but gave it a shot.

Even though the codec didn't work even after download I was still able to run my computer normally. This morning I woke up and continued to work on my slideshow but my computer would not play my slideshow. All it would do was play the audio and music files.... Everything else seemed to function so I decided to reboot.

My computer will reboot but now my screen is black. It still "functions" I can see it changing different colors of black and grey as it is rebooting... and I can hear all the audio that comes along with rebooting but I can't get my laptops screen to work.

I hooked up my desktop to my laptop to see if the monitor would work that way. It worked for about 30 sec and then turned black also. I then rebooted and hit F8 and ran in safe mode with my desktop screen still connected. I am able to run in safe mode but not reboot normally. I think I downloaded some virus with that codec.

I then decided to unhook the desktop monitor and just hit F8 hoping the screen would show up on my laptop... but that still won't work. It remains black.

Windows will only boot in safe mode or safe mode with networking. My screen is messed up (dark and grey with horizontal lines and the screen looks like it's continuously scrolling).

I connected the laptop to an external monitor and it still won't boot normally and I need to recover contacts for my iphone from itunes.

Is there anything I can do? I really don't want to lose all my contacts! I've contemplated removing the hard drive and popping it into another machine and try to boot windows normally with access to my current drive with all the data that's on it, but I don't know if that would work or if it's a bad idea.

What could be causing the screen to get all messed up and at the same time windows refusing to boot normally? I never had virus problems before!

Help! Thanks :)

Answer:Re: Toshiba L305 Satellite 1) screen is messed up and only boot in safe mode <3

> Windows will only boot in safe mode or safe mode with networking

It looks like the bootmanger is corrupted or something like this

> I really don't want to lose all my contacts!

As I know, i safe mode you have an access to all data on hard drive. So, you can move all important data to usb drive or to the 2 nd partition (if available) on your hdd and you don't need to remove the hard drive
Then, you can reinstall Windows with a recovery disk or using Win copy disk. it's the best solution in your case, trying to fix windows can take much time than a new installation.

Hey all,

I've reinstalled the driver and i've restored my computer but the Backlit Toshiba Multimedia Console Buttons still dont work.

Any help appreciated.

PS. would it be under warranty

Answer:Toshiba Multimedia Console Buttons on Satellite A300-08WB dont work

> I've reinstalled the driver and i've restored my computer
Does this mean that you have used the Toshiba recovery disk?
Did you create a Toshiba recovery disk at the beginning?

I think if you didn?t use the recovery disk then the issue is related to the missing driver or software part?

But the Satellite A300-08WB is not known to me? what notebook model number is it?
You can find the numbers at the bottom of the unit?

Does this program work;
TRDC Reminder and Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator after updating to Wins7?

The program TRDCReminder did not find "Renewal of computer".
On the program Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator was created and that incomprehensible?

If is not it these programm how to recover computer in the case of failure?
Does Tempro work in Win7?

Many thanks.
With kind regards.

Answer:Satellite A300: Does TRDC Reminder & Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator work after Win 7 upgrade?

Hello Igor

In my opinion you should create recovery disc before you upgrade it to Win7. I have done the same.
Later if something goes wrong you can use your discs and install Vista again using created recovery discs.

I don't understand why you want to wait and create these discs after upgrade. This recovery disc creator doesn?t create recovery image of current state but always the same recovery image you got with your notebook.

Tempro should work in Win7 too.

Working on my Toshiba Satellite laptop, all of a sudden there was the smell of burning plastic and the screen went white, what could be the problem?

Answer:the screen on my Toshiba went white

Sounds like it may have overheated and fried a chip? Were you using it on a desk or on something that could block the fan vents?

Whilst downloading a Windows XP update, my toshiba M30 went to a white screen with fine vertical colored stripes. After about a half hour of waiting, I turned it off, restarted, but the white screen came back.

I took out the battery, waited for several hours before turning it back on, but it still starts up with this white screen.

Can anyone help?

Answer:Help! Toshiba M30 white screen

I am not sure but I assume that there is graphic card malfunction or the Fl inverter is defect. The best way to find out what the cause of this can be is to contact the Service partner in your country.

I am pretty sure that they can on the basis of your explanation suppose if there is some hardware defect.

I don`t know how old is your unit but check if the warranty is .still valid because in this case all costs will be covered.

If I plug another monitor into the back when in this state, the other monitor shows the display with no problems, so I don't think it is the video card or motherboard. Any ideas and is it possible to

So hey
Thanks in advance..
Went to turn on my laptop this morning, L670 Toshiba, and i got the black screen with blinking cursor.
What i did do..
I pulled the hard drive, replaced it.
I pulled and replaced ram.
I even have a same laptop, put my HD in it and it worked fine (minus drivers)
So, with this said, I know its the hard drive, but how can I repair it. I don't have a win7 disk, all repair stuff is on HD
I'm thinking bootable usb?
any help/ good news ?

Answer:Toshiba L670 wont boot..white cursor

Hard disk would make sense. What make model disk is it? You may be able to download the relevant diagnostic tool and repair the MBR.

Do you have a desktop or drive Caddy to hook the disk up as a secondary disk if you need to?

my toshiba laptop has a white screen on bootup. I figured it might be the lCD that was bad, so I hooked it up to an external monitor. And there was the display. I thought that maybe the video driver on the laptoop was defective, so I decided to update the driver, but in the rush of thing I uninstalled it by mistake. And there went the display. Is there any way to set the driver to the state it was earlier by maybe resetting the BIOS somehow, and if so, how would i reset the BIOS.I want to also eventually reload the OS, so that it will have all the right drivers. Is there a way to do that, maybe through an external drive or by putting this drive into another laptop?

Answer: toshiba laptop has white screen on bootup

Are you talking about a laptop or netbook? If you want to re-install Windows, you should just be able to put the Windows CD into the drive and reboot and follow the directions. To update your Bios, go to the toshiba website and download the BIOS update, and then install the BIOS (you will need a USB Stick to do that)

Any idea what's going on? In case it's important, before replacing the screen, I did see a blue screen pop up. I completely shut down the laptop when that happened, then replaced the screen.

What?s about the HDD?
Did you check if it?s recognized in BIOS?

Usually you should get an error message when the HDD would malfunctions but it?s definitely worth a check.

If the HDD is OK and is recognized in BIOS then I assume an serious hardware issue? maybe something wrong with motherboard or similar?

today i have tried to reinstall my win7. I managed to reinstall using setup.exe in windows but for clean install (with formatting) i need to boot that dvd. When i select that dvd to boot, it doesnt show message "press any key to boot...", just show blinking dash on black screen while dvd system is making noise like its reading that dvd. But after cca 30 seconds, it loads currently installed win. I have also tried changing order in boot menu. Nothing helped.

I will be thankful for any advice.

Answer:Satellite A300 cannot boot DVD

Do you try to use original Microsoft installation disc or some self-made installation disc?
Have you tested your A300 with some other bootable disc?

Start your machine and press F12. When you see boot menu on the screen put Windows installation disc in optical disc drive, choose CD/DVD option on the menu and press ENTER.

I've got an A300 that won't seem to boot from any device.

When I start it I see the splash screen and can enter the BIOS or Boot select.
I've tried setting boot priority to HDD & CD, and also chosen to boot from both with the Product Recovery CD in the drive.

However as soon as it gets past the splash screen I am just presented with a plain black screen.
I hear a bit of CD activity and the light flashes a couple of times but then nothing.

Normally I would expect a prompt to press a key to boot from CD.
I have tried pressing the key anyway but this just seems to result in a default beep.

Could it be the graphics card on the system board?

Answer:Satellite A300 won't boot from any device

> Could it be the graphics card on the system board?

I think this is no matter if the issue would be related to mobo or GPU? in both cases the motherboard needs to be replaced. But if you area able to access the BIOS then the mobo could be ok.
But generally speaking it sounds like serious hardware problem and I think it?s time for an notebook technician.

Anyway, did you try to boot from different CDs? I mean Linux Live CD or Windows PartBE?
Please check this? both disks can be downloaded for free?

Hello forum members,

I have had many problems with my Toshiba Satellite A300 for some time. I had found the solution of one of the problems through this forum but right now the problem I am facing; I can?t find the solution for the problem.

When I press the power on button, the laptop just blinks (the fan runs , then stops , like it gets power pulse. the satellite sign on the left side of the laptop blinks and laptop shuts down, then laptop itself tries to boot but this goes on and on for long time. It finally boots (not really specific time when it boots , sometimes after 1 hour, 2 hours or all day) and I can use it. I tried to put the laptop in hibernate mood/sleep mode but no use, every time I press the power on button, I face the same problem. Once it starts it doesn?t shut down and works fine.

I cant really figure out what is the problem? Your answers are really appreciated. I am having really a tough time with this laptop.

F8 Repair Computer crashes.
Have tried resetting the bios, still crashes.

There are 2 sticks of ram, tried one at a time, no good, still crashes.
Tried booting to recovery DVD, crashes at same point, with corrupt screen again.
Tried booting to spare windows vista disk, crashes, reboots.

Memtest from ubuntu cd, tests ok.

Anything else I can check ?

Answer:Satellite A300 crashing on boot

Mostly it?s a sign of hardware problem if system cannot be installed using recovery disk.

How about HDD check?
HDD fitness test a a good freeware tool to get the HDD checked for malfunction.

My A300 has developed a problem. When I boot it up at takes about 2 minutes to get past the BIOS screen, the screen then goes blank with a flashing cursor in the top left of the screen, it stays like this for about a minute and it then boots up and works perfectly.
I have tried updating the BIOS to the latest version. I have also restored windows back to factory condition.

The problem still exists. The laptop is 10 months old.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Re: Satellite A300 - Very slow to boot

Have you installed extra RAM in the notebook?
If yes remove it and try it again only with preinstalled RAM module.

What devices or cables have you connected to the notebook? Remove all USB devices, network cable and others and see what happens. I ask this because a friend of me had the same problem because he connected an external HDD to the notebook.

Hi guys

I?m overseas atm, so I really want to try and resolve this problem by myself.

Ok I was watching a movie yesterday and as it ended the laptop locked up, it wouldn?t let me ctr, alt, del nothing....
So I waited a few mins and tried again to ctr, alt, del again still frozen. SO I hit the power button for a few seconds and shut it down that way. When it rebooted I chose safe mode but when I was prompted for my password the keyboard wouldn?t work so I couldn?t type it in.

I had to use my external mouse and shut it down from the power option.
The next time it rebooted i chose normal mode but it has been sitting on the vista screen just before the password box pops up for hours.

Is there anything i can do guys???

Thanx John

It takes in excess of 5 minutes for my PC to boot from pressing the on button to getting the Vista Desktop (Business) to appear. Can anyone suggest anything to improve this exceptionally long boot time?

Given the specification of the system, this seems a little crazy, especially when I have booted next to lesser specified laptops and they take less than 2 minutes.

Many Thanks in Advance.

Answer:Satellite Pro A300-1E7 - Really slow boot

Do you have many programs in start up folder and msconfig? This can cause a slow boot up. Check this!

Furthermore I have read in the forum that sometimes it?s helpful to uninstall TEMPRO. Try to remove it and test it.

By the way, what OS do you use?

I have problem with my A300 laptop.

I've bought a new SSHD drive, and after mounting it, laptop doesn't boot anymore :( I mean, fans are working, lights are glowing but the screeen is black and nothing happens.

I should point out, that I've accidently removed a few screws marked on the photo (at the time, i thought that hdd is somewhere there) but I put them right where they were -->

I've tried running with/without battery/power, I've tried holding down power button, I've tried 0+power, ESC+power etc. Still nothing. Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite A300-1EG - doesn't boot

On this pic is visible that your A300 has two HDD covers and place for two HDDs but HDD/SSD can be used in only one (primary) slot. As you can see in second slot (where you have marked the screws) there is no HDD connector and this slot will stay empty because you cannot use second hard disc.

I don't know why you have removed these screws. There is no reason for doing this. Anyway, when you put original HDD into the right place can you start your notebook again?

I have a Toshiba A300-259 laptop and i been having problems trying to get into windows.
When i try to start my laptop it would remain at the Microsoft logo screen with no response. I've tried to use the HDD recovery procedure (link below) but if just skips to the Microsoft loading screen. I've tried the safe modes too, but when it finishes loading all the drivers it just freezes.

Is there anything i can do before i buy a toshiba recovery media disk?

HDD recovery procedure

Answer:Satellite A300-259 won't boot to windows

Hi mate

Well, if you didn?t create a recovery disk previously, then you would need to purchase a new recovery disk.

If the Windows OS does not boot up neither using the safe mode nor normal mode and if the HDD recovery procedure does not start up then I don?t see any other options for you as to try the recovery disk.

I have a Toshiba A300 for a few years. I have upgraded it with a new RAM module last week. I tested it with memtetst 86, and everything was fine, but this week it started to act strangely.

The notebook doesn't boot up properly, just spinning the ODD drive (the orange led is flashing), however the ODD is the last boot device in the bios.

Has this problem a connection with the new ram, or is it just the ODDs fault?

Answer:Re: Satellite A300 doesn't boot

What do you mean by ?it does not boot properly??
Can you start the Windows system?
Do you see the Toshiba Splash screen at the beginning.

How about removing new RAM and trying to boot the unit with the old module?

Hi, I have a Toshiba laptop (Satellite C850) (using Windows 7), while in use it just shut off and now when I turn it on it will start up to a black screen with a white line in the left hand corner of the screen then after a few seconds it will turn off and then start back up with the same white line and then turn off again and then restart and so on. It will do this and won't stop unless I turn the power button off. How do I fix this?? I have tried leaving it for a long while, I have tried unplugging it and taking the battery out and putting back in and turning it on again, but still no change. I can't get the boot menu up either I have tried pressing f12 and all the f buttons but nothing. I'm not very good at getting computers to work, would someone please be able to help me?

From the day I got this laptop it always had battery problems, it would always say please replace your battery and have an x on the battery sign in the task bar, and now it has gotten to the point where I can only have my laptop on with it plugged into the power cord and it will turn straight off if I shut it down. Could this play a part in what is happening now with it?

I am worried too because all my assignments and work is on my laptop, if I can't get it to start up is there any way I can save all my work that was on it?

I really hope someone can help me, thanks for reading

Answer:Toshiba laptop won't start up.. Black screen, white line

Did you purchase this new? You indicate you've had issues since day one, so why did you decide to keep it instead of replacing it with a working one?

Anyway, your problem is either a loose connection to the display or an onboard graphics card problem. To troubleshoot, connect your laptop to an external display via the VGA or HDMI out ports. If you can successfully boot into Windows, then it's a guaranteed problem with your laptop display.

Also, can provide a picture of your screen while it's exhibiting this behavior?

To address your last concern, you should be able to remove its internal 2.5" hard drive and install it in a new device (or purchase an adapter) to access your data.
