Is Lenovo planning on developing a touch screen Thinkpad X Carbon (other than the Thinkpad Yoga)

Question: Is Lenovo planning on developing a touch screen Thinkpad X Carbon (other than the Thinkpad Yoga)

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated). However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities. Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping. The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for. The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon. Thanks,

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have ben dealing with problems with this touch screen since I got the laptop.  It has been continuously ghosting, while it got better after the June update, it still ghosts without touches, until you start using the touch screen.  When using the touch screen it starts drawing gray lines in between the point im touching and the point its ghosting to (the lines arent always direct). I recently wiped my the drive, reimaged to a backup from april and tried reupdating it.  When I got to the touch screen drivers, I got through the initial setup and told it to open the update when finished but the machine froze.  Now when I try to reinstall, I get to the finish page on the update tools install, have it open the updater, but the program immediately closes.Any help would be much appreciated.

Hey everybody, I just received my P40 last week as a replacement for another Lenovo device. So far, everything seems to work fine with one exception: When I turn the screen over to the "tablet position", the touch screen and the touch pen show erroneous behaviour.a) As soon as I make the first input with the touch pen, I cannot make any further input with my finger, so the touch input is simply turned off. The Windows setting to ignore touch input when the stylus is used is not active.b) When I try to tap buttons at certain areas of the screen, especially at the upper edge, the cursor of the stylus starts jumping around and shows up at the lower edge of the screen. That means that when I for example tap on the "X" symbol in the upper right corner to close a window, I actually click on some of the symbols in the system tray in the lower right corner. This problem stops occuring as soon as the angle between the two case parts (screen and keyboard) reaches/exceeds approx. 40°. It does not matter if Windows is in "Tablet" or "Desktop" Mode. I already tried to manually install another Wacom driver mentioned at https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Wacom-Tablet-Service-for-ISD-Driver-Win... and https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/P40-Yoga-issues/td-p/3293985. I had no luck trying driver versions 7.3.3.12, 7.3.4.8 and 7.3.4.13. I would really appreciate your help since this issue makes working in the tablet position... Read more

I received my new silver matte Thinkpad X1 Carbon laptop less than 3 weeks ago and it already has a slight skim mark in the lid!  I tried to lightly rub it off with a cotton cloth because I thought is was a scuff mark on the surface.  That didn't work.  After a closer inspection, I realized that the lid paint was skimmed!  Does Lenovo sell touch up paint for the silver matte finish? Does anyone have any suggestions how I can refinish my lid?  It seems that the new silver matte color is not as durable as the traditional black!

For the past several weeks I've experienced a very annoying problem with my ThinkPad.  Whenever the laptop goes to sleep and resumes the touch screen goes... crazy. It starts registering multiple inputs across the touchscreen and the only thing that seems to resolve the issue is a restart. Sometimes, upon restart, the touch screen works normally, other times it does not work at all.  Has anyone else experienced this issue? I've seen this issue described for other Lenovo models with fixes, but none for my model.  Under the hardware ID in device manager, this monitor is a LEN 40A4.  I'm running Windows 10.  This is my third Thinkpad X1 Carbon, not because I love to upgrade, but because these machines seem to only last one year before something major breaks.

(There is another thread on this, but it relates to Windows 8.  I am running Win 7 Pro 64 bit.) I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon type 3443-CTO.  The Wi-Fi adapter -- never the stablest thing on earth -- is getting flakier and flakier.  I am constantly having to reset or disable/re-enable it.  The "connect automatically" settings for some of my existing Wi-Fi routers do not appear, so that I have to connect manually every time.   Any suggestions woiud be greatly appreciated.  Should I ask tech support for new hardware?

I have a 3444-CUU that I really love. When I first got it I realised the wireless adapter would just randomly stop working. I updated every possible driver and I'm still having the same issues. All I can do is reset the adapter to get it kicking again. I'm not sure if the wifi care is soldered or if it could be removed or replaced but I'm really leaning towards it being a hardware issue. It'll either stop working could turkey, won't detect any wireless networks or it'll stop working and I can still view other wireless networks but I cannot connect to them. Resetting the adapter is the only option. As I'm writing this right now the wireless has gone out again. So I have to reset the adapter for 5-10 more minutes of internet just so that I can post this. Anyone else experiencing these issues?

I saw a post a couple threads down about a regular x1 carbon stating that the drivers on the lenovo website are not up to date and to download them straight from intel. Windows 8 - x64 - Intel PROSet drivers I downloaded the file above. I will post my results in the next day or two if I don't experience any problems between now and then. Fingers crossed.

Machine 3460-AQG; Win8 64bit 8 GB; Intel Centrino WiFi. ok, only two USB, one of which is usually occupied by the USB Dock.  So, I buy two Lenovo ThinkPad Bluetooth Laser mice to work without occupying a USB port for a mouse receiver. One for my X1; one for a Dell Inspiron XPS14, Win8- 64bit  btw., came in with same shipment.  Lenovo X1:  Original Thinkpad Bluetooth Laser Mouse randomly switches off and looses connection every 15 seconds or so. Workaround:  Disable the "switch off for  batterypower saving" in the Bluetooth device in Win8 device properties.  Subsequently, Bluetooth wears on battery runtime. After 30 minutes of searching, finally mouse works. Dell Inspiron:  ThinkPad mouse works like a charm, no tweak required, Dell saves energy for battery runtime.  Dell XPS14 machine cost a bit more than third (!!) of my Lenovo machine. Gerd

Answer:X1 Carbon Touch does not work with Lenovo Thinkpad Bluetooth Laser mouse

Hi, Gerd

Have you ensured that all your drivers are up to date, as well as your BIOS?  All updates for your system can be found here, if you would like to check. And for clarification, what do you exactly mean by "after 30 minutes of searching, finally mouse works?" Do you mean that the computer has to spend 30 minutes to find the mouse before it will connect?

Best,
Adam

I'm going to order Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch, just want to explore the way to connect to 2 monitors (same model, 1920x1080)the laptop's monitor could be either off or on. Q1) How about "Lenovo DisplayPort to Dual DisplayPort Cable"?- will there be any display lay?- does the laptop monitor need to turn off? My two monitors support VGA/DVIHDMI only. In this case, the setup would bex1 carbon touch -> Lenovo DisplayPort to Dual DisplayPort Cable -> mini displayport to hdmiQ2) anyone tried this before? Q3) any other options? Thanks a lot. X1 Carbon Touch spec that I'm ordering- Intel Core i7-3667U,  2.0 GHz, 4MB L3, 1333MHz FSB)- 8GB, 1600MHz DDR3,8GB, 1 slot- Intel HD Graphics 4000, 1GB     - Ethernet Via USB (dongle included), Intel Centrino Advanced N 6205 (a/g/n) Wireless, Optional Mobile Broadband 3G/4G (LTE), Bluetooth® 4.0- DVI via optional dongle, VGA dongle included, Headphone/Microphone, Integrated HD video Webcam, (1) USB 3.0, (1) USB 2.0, (Note: External smart card reader for RAS access and USB docking station need to be ordered separately.) Remarks:Currently, I am using X220, connecting two external monitors via the built-in VGA and DisplayPort without any problems (while the laptop monitor turns off).

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch connects to two external monitors (1920x1080)

Q1) For the Displayport to Displayport splitter, you can keep the internal LCD on. Since the laptop considers the external dual monitors connected through the splitter as one single external LCD. It would be easier for you to just get a Displayport to Dual DVI splitter. http://intrl.startech.com/AV/Splitters/DisplayPort/DisplayPort-to-Dual-DVI-Multi-Monitor-Adapter-Mal...
It works on the same principle, but just have the DVI port out instead of the Displayport out.

Hi, my brand new Thinkpad X1 Carbon touch screen is showing a couple of internal cracks on the top right hand corner, where I usually open it. Since the laptop is under warranty and this is clearly a hardware fault, I've contacted the support in order to create a new service case. I got an email with a £200 quote to repair a faulty screen. Its unbelieveable that Lenovo will do this, especially when anyone can see that the crack is internal and the laptop is brand new! Anyone else had this issue with the X1 Carbon?  If they don't solve this, this will most likely be my last Thinkpad...

Hello there,I've got an X1 Carbon Gen 2 (20A7), which is unfortunately out of warranty.  A while ago I noticed a few random clicks on the top left corner of the screen (about 2 inches from the right and 0.5 inches down)...  I paid no heed to it.  Fast forward 3 weeks and now it's completely unuseable, it clicks at a rate of maybe 10 clicks per second within an inch of the spot detailed above and makes using the touchscreen completely impossible. Sometimes when it boots it takes a few minutes to start clicking and sometimes closing and re-opening the lid fixes it for 20-30 seconds.I've not found anyone with a similar issue and have no idea what it could be...  Does anyone know what I coud look at here?  pressing the screen in any spot or opening/closing to different degrees does nothing, nor does clicking in another area...  Is this likely to be a fault in the screen?  Could this be a fault with the connection onto the motherboard?  Could this be a graphic card problem?  This problem was present on windows 8.1, and is still present in Windows 10...  Updating the graphic card and other drivers does not help nor does lowering resolution.  I should add that this problem seems to be referred to as "Ghost Clicking".https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-Touch-Touchscreen-cursor-randomly-q...  This thread seems to be fairly similar, except that this is random and some peoples can be attributed to g... Received my ThinkPad Yoga today - i7 ? 8 Gb - 256 Gb SSD - Win 8.1 pro ? One major problem ? the touch screen stops responding to finger intermittently. It always responds to the stylus. Updated all the Lenovo drivers and did Windows updates. When it stops responding, the only way to get it to work is by doing a shut down ( restart does not work ). Read the forums and disabled and enabled HID-compliant vendor-defined device. That did not make any difference. Is this a common issue and is there a software fix for it or is it just a faulty screen?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 20CDCTR1WW - Touch Screen not responding to touch - intermittent

Hi Waferthin,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with Touch screen on ThinkPad Yoga.

To resolve the issue please follow the below troubleshooting steps.

Remove the Wacom touch gesture driver in the device manager and make sure to check "uninstall driver" when you do so otherwise the touch will stop working again a minute later.
And after that restart the system and the touch screen driver will automatically install.
In services.msc restart human interface device service to run automatically.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

My laptop recenctly started flashing (lines of colour being displayed rather then the picture) and then the colour fades out completely to a white screen. Initially this seemed to be impacted by me adjusting the screens position back and forward, however this went from happening intermittantly and returning to a normal screen after I would force restart the computer to being completely unusable. Any ideas on what the issue could be/ has someone expericenced a similar problem? ThanksSteph

Answer:X1 Carbon Thinkpad Touch Screen: Screen display flashing and turning blank / unable to use.

Yes,  I have similar issue. My screen becomes whiteish and i can barely see wht was on the screen. It seems like video card issue i remember a Dell laptop i had previously owned had similar issues which was hardware (vdeo card being replaced). Im not sure as of yet, if this is a Video card issue. I'm testing Windows 10 with the latest drivers from lenovo 7/15.

I am experiencing problems with the touch screen on ThinkPad Yoga 14. Sometimes it recognizes 1 tap as more taps. When typing some letters are pressed more than once or when scrolling through a webpage it randomly zooms (zoom is caused by the falsely recognized double tap gesture). Sometimes it happens more often (several times per minute), sometimes it is working fine. I really have no idea what could be affecting the touch screen responsiveness this way. The notebook was bought in June, it is a version with a GeForce 840M and without a digitizer. The issue was present in Windows 8.1 Pro and is still present in a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro. I have contacted the support on this matter. They replaced the whole LCD. For some time it seemed OK, but now the issue is back. I have been in contact with the technician and he's clueless what could be causing it other than the LCD. Any ideas? It makes the tablet mode almost completely useless.

Hi Knight1 I have a similar machine but I'm not experiencing this problem. I don't know if you did it before but it can be good to start updating your drivers. If you do not have experience with that try using the "System Update" utility from Lenovo. If you do not have it already installed check it here. Update the BIOS, video and recommended driver. Sorry it is not a solution but maybe you can try to see if there if some touchscreen driver can be updated. Regards

My touch screen  has not been working for nearly two weeks now. I've tried updating drivers, restarting, and all the Googling I can handle. My "Pen and Touch" and "Tablet PC" options are missing from my control panel (although they've made a reappearance after installing a driver or two, they disappeared again after restarting). In System it tells me that "No Pen or Touch is available for this Display." I'm not even sure which item in the Device Manager is my touch screen, if any. What can I do to fix this??

Hello Lenovo Forum, I installed Xubuntu on my Thinkpad Yoga 14 and one day I tried to poke around and click the mouse button during boot time. Then I had the magical on-screen virtual keyboard popping up on the GRUB menu. You can see a photo of the on screen virtual keyboard here: http://imgur.com/p6JUrQr I also give a video showing how to activate the keyboard: Basically, clicking left mouse button (either the one on the trackpoint or an external mouse can work) will bring up the virtual keyboard. You need to touch it quickly, because every time any content on the screen changes (in this video, that is the countdown which refreshes every second) the keyboard will disappear. Touching the a key on the Virtual keyboard is equivalent to pressing the corresponding physical key. In this video I clicked Down Arrow, Up Arrow and Enter and booted Xubuntu. The Keyboard shows only in the GRUB Menu, as far as I have tested. It does not pop up in BIOS even if you click the left mouse button in BIOS. Is there a more detailed description of this Keyboard available? I searched "Thinkpad Yoga 14 virtual keyboard grub" but got no useful results, so the Keyboard looks like a secret, an easter egg or some maintenance mode to me. Personally I think this keyboard will make it very convenient for those who use the Yoga in tent mode / presentation mode / tablet mode and need to reboot across Linux and Windows and have no external USB keyboard and do not want to co... Hi all,I'm not sure if I posted in the correct forum and I'm new to this so bear with me.  So I bought this laptop around 5 months ago and only about 1 month ago the left side of the touch screen is not working. It would register that something is touching the bottom left side because I have my visual feedback turned on and after a half a minute of that, you can see it go haywire and register nearly the entire 1/3 left side. After 30 seconds of it going haywire, it would stop. And then either the entire left side or just the bottom left side would completely not register any touches at all. This wouldn't happen all the time, just every other day and definitely enough to be extremely annoying.  I bought my laptop in to get fixed for a completely unrelated problem because it's still under warranty and I told them about this issue but it doesn't seem like they fixed it and I'm thinking it's because it just didn't happen to happen to them when they had it. Also, I'm not sure if it's a software issue (since I don't think that's covered by warranty) or hardware. I have Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit OS, pen and touch support with 10 points.  Is there anyway that you guys can help me on this? It would be much appreciated.

if the left hand screen touch is unresponsive, then it is a hardware problem. You would need to send in for service.

This began about six months ago. I picked up my laptop and it was unresponsive and the red logo lights was blinking. I forced shutdown with the power button and restarted it. When it was back on I could get power but no data transfer from any usb ports, the touch screen didn't work, and if i let it sleep it automatically went unresponsive with the same error light. I checked for viruses. None. I updated all possible drivers. Nothing. I even restored my computer to factory settings and reinstalled windows. Nada. I use it heavily for school, so I haven't had time to send it in for warranty. One day, I turned it on and everything worked again. Wonderful. A couple days later I opened it and it was back to its previous state. PLEASE HELP

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Twist S230U Touch Screen Not Working

Hello,

A few questions, in no particular order:

Are these new ThinkPad Twist S230u's?  Refurbished ones?  Old ones?
Can you let us know the machine type from the bottom of the unit(s)?  That's the part on the label that looks like 4321-XYZ (not the serial number, though --please don't post that online)
Did you purchase them directly from Lenovo?  If not, where did you get them from?
What operating system(s) are the S230u's running?

With the answers to those questions, I'm sure some of the forum members will be able to assist you in troubleshooting this further.

I haven't seen any topics that seem to quite replicate the specific problem I have, so here I am.Without warning, the screen of my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 11e tablet-notebook will turn black. It appears to be an "active" black rather than the screen turning wholly off. The rest of the computer is working normally during these times: audio carries on, keyboard and mouse input function, and nothing else seems to shut down or turn off. Keyboard, mouse, or touchscreen input causes the screen to return to normal briefly, but the only way to make it stop happening for sure is to restart the computer. I don't think it's connected to sleep functions, given that it happens while I'm actively using the computer.I don't know exactly why this happens, but it usually happens after long periods of use. At least once it has happened within an hour or so of being turned on for the first time that day, but I had a great deal of Chrome tabs open and that may have been similarly taxing. While this problem is not exactly disastrous, it is pretty annoying and well outside the acceptable boundaries of computer behavior, especially for a device I have had for only a few months. I would greatly appreciate help in rectifying this problem.

I haven't seen any topics that seem to quite replicate the specific problem I have, so here I am.Without warning, the screen of my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 11e tablet-notebook will turn black. It appears to be an "active" black rather than the screen turning wholly off. Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 11e Screen Blacks Out

I am also having this issue as well. I first noticed it maybe a week ago, but in the past couple of days it's gotten worse and has happened multiple times while I was in the middle of something. What does your Event Viwer show as the problem? Mine always says there's a system error with DistributedCOM as the source. I'm not sure how to fix this or even exactly what it means though.  In possibly a related issue, in the past couple of days I've had multiple instances of my screen flickering at random times while working. The only way I've found to fix that is to use the power button to put the laptop into sleep mode. Once it goes into sleep mode I've been able to press the power button to get the lock screen to appear and resume work. Have you or anyone else had this problem as well?  I've changed the sleep settings as much as I can but that doesn't seem to have fixed the problem. It'll even go to sleep while I'm in the middle of something with the power cord plugged in.

Add this to the list of: "Reasons why the Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga is a cash grab". Cheap materials, high premium cost. This is my second Thinkpad Yoga and I have a murky screen. I need this corrected Lenovo. The murky area is very noticable when I use colours such as dark green or grey. If I had seen this issue during the my return period I would have gotten rid of this machine long ago...I also have the screen retention in which I noticed within the first week of light use.....I bought the TPY late January and IIve only needed to recharge my device 3 times in total.  Murky Screen Image  Lenovo must thinkg people who pay USD1500+ for the TPY wouldn't notice....the screens need to be fixed.  Question:1) Does the warrenty/extended warrenty even cover this problem? (For USD1500+ it best be covered) It's hard to descibe the murky screen over the phone. I'd hate to uninstall my applications and transfer files if the Lenovo repair centre just gives me back a unit with no changes....That would be total waste of time.  (I'm a digital artist with too many application to count ranging from 2d to 3d, intalling all my apps takes up too much time) I feel uncomfrotable leaving my unbtrabook witht eh repair centre without wiping it first on my end, but that would be pointless if Lenovo can't do anything.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga - murky areas on screen

1) I would think such problem is covered by warranty, as long as its not user induced and is reproducible by the technician. It would great if you can print out the screenshot of the problem (i.e. print a photo of this), and include this with the laptop when you send it into the depot.

Hi, I've been having problems with the touchpad on my Lenovo ThinkPad Helix 369847B.  If I un-dock the screen to use in tablet mode and then re-dock with the keyboard, the touchpad might not work (no mouse, no left or right click), but the screen and keyboard still work. The same also happens (sometimes) if I sleep the machine by closing the screen then  re-opening.  Can't find a way to get the touchpad to work again, other than a restart, which is quite frustrating. Tried removing the screen, resetting the keyboard with a paperclip and re-docking - but no luck. Can anyone please tell me how to get the machine to recognise the touchpad again, without having to do a reboot?   Or any way to stop this happening? Machine stats:Lenovo ThinkPad Helix 369847BWindows 8.1 Pro 64-bit Also the machine is fully updated via Lenovo System Update & Windows update + latest keyboard firmware. Thanks Christopher

I have seen on this forum and elsewhere that quite a few Thinkpad Yoga users have scratches on their screen (or rather on the protective film, hopefully). I have a 1920x1080 TP Yoga with digitizer and I am seeing more and more scratches that seem to appear for no reason. Some of these scratches are becoming more than a cosmetic issue, they make it harder to read text in the affected areas. It is my understanding that removing the protective film actually solves the problem, and that the screen, although more subject to glare, is at least as good looking and usable after peeling off that film. So I would be happy with that solution, even if it's not perfect (and anti-reflective film without scratches would be better of course). It is also my understanding that removing the film voids the warranty. I have a 3-month old TP Yoga with a 4-year warranty plan, accidental damage protection and "keep my drive". It was a very expensive machine and I bought it because I am used to good quality hardware from Lenovo. I do not want to void the warranty after 3 months just because of a protective film. I would like a clear statement from Lenovo:- Will I void the warranty if I remove the protective film myself?- If yes, what are my options? I clearly cannot keep working efficiently with more and more scratches on the screen. Thank you,MikBik

I'd like to copy the recovery partition on my X1 Carbon Touch to a USB drive and then delete the partition to free up space.  There seem to be two separate partitions:  The "Recovery Partition" is 8.86GB and the "OEM Partition" is 7.00GB:

Link to picture

As far as I can tell, Lenovo doesn't provide Rescue & Recovery software with Windows 8 computers, so you have to use the built-in recovery functionality.  When I used Windows 8 to create a recovery drive, it copied 7.04GB to my USB drive:

Link to picture
So my question is:  What did Windows 8 copy to my USB drive?   It doesn't match the size of the Recovery Partition or the OEM Partition, though it's very close to the size of the OEM Parition.  For that matter, what is the purpose of the two separate partitions?  What is stored in each one?   In any case, it looks like Windows 8 doesn't copy *both* recovery partitions to the USB drive, so I don't know which one I can safely delete.  Can anyone provide any more guidance?  Ideally, I'd like to be able to copy both to my USB drive and then delete both partitoins.

Hi, three weeks ago I got a new thinkpad x1 carbon touch, it was perfect, last few weeks I was working normally and left my laptop in my office working, where I left the office for several min's and when came back I found that my laptop is hanged showing the blue screen, I waited for several minutes and then pressed the power button, after that I powered it on but the he light surrounding the power button and the keyboard backlight turns on for about half a second before turning off again and it keeps going like that. I tried the reset button (hole) but same problem, I tried to call the service center but they just pass me to other offices and there is no help. I have three years warranty but can't figure out how this will be useful.so, if anybody got a solution for my problem, please share it with me. Thanks, best regards

In fact, I have a long story in dealing with Lenovo Laptops. At first, I bought my first Lenovo laptop around July. It turned out that whenever the laptop is a bit away (next room or 5 meters away) from the internet router, the wifi connection was very weak comparing to other laptop at the same time and place and ultimately it went into the 'Limited' phase i.e. wifi does not work at all. People from Lenovo solution centre tried their best to repair but did not work out. Ultimately they suggested to get the laptop back and buy another new one. So I did. And I bought a ''better'' Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14 20DM in September 2015 and few problems as of following appeared:  1. Very weak internet connection in distance (5-10 meters or next rooms) from the router (compared to other normal laptops) and ultimately showed 'Limited or Begrenz (in German language)' sign (with yello point on the wifi icon) even though it did not happened so often like my first laptop. 2. I put the laptop in sleep mode and when I opened the laptop after few minutes, the laptop is already shut down. I noticed this many times since November (I did not use my laptop so often in September and October because I was in research). 3. Screen Rotation worked when I bought it in September. After that, I did not rotate the screen again. But I tried to rotate the screen few days ago and it did not rotate. It stopped screen rotatio... Read more

Hello everybody! The Thinkpad X1 Yoga (2nd Gen) laptop is offered with 3 types of displays, as described by Lenovo:- 14" WQHD (2560 x 1440) OLED Touch- 14" WQHD (2560 x 1440) IPS 10-point Multi-Touch- 14" FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS 10-point Multi-TouchSince the OLED version is not labelled as "10-point Multi-Touch", does this mean it only support "1-point" touch? (Or any number less than 10).Also, does the OLED display support Stylus pens? Thank you in advance!

Hello everybody, is there anybody that has upgraded his 3rd Gen X1 Carbon to a 1TB ssd? I'm running out of place and would like to have a bigger ssd and do not know which one I could use. I tried reading in the forums, but was not able to find out which SSD would work. Somehow NVMe is not supported, it has to be a PCIe SSD (I think), but I'm not too familiar with these things. I looked at the new Samsung SM961 1TB that is just coming out, would that be able to work? The specs are here: https://gzhls.at/blob/ldb/c/4/4/9/618ff48c1c0dc799c9442fd598fa06935527.pdf Any help would be deeply appreciated.Regards,Jochen

So bit of a curious problem, and also one that I can replicate rather consistently: When going between pen and touchscreen use, there is a period of time during which touches are not registered. In laptop mode this is approximately half a second. In tablet mode it's anywhere between 5 and 15 seconds. Anyone see this issue before? Anyone know any good diagnostic techniques (and please don't just tell me to update the drivers. Theyre all updated.) This has been an issue for nearly half a year now, however I've only recently found real use for the machine in tablet mode, hence why I am taking action now rather than half a year ago.

I have made fresh installation of Win7 Enterprise + installed all available Lenovo drivers and upgrades using system update. X1C works otherwise ok but I have problems with display:-I can not change resolution with windows (Desktop=>Screen resolution), all of the dropdown boxes for selections do not let me select anything, as soon as they are openend by mouse click, they will be closed -I can not change resolution using Intel programs either (HD graphics, v 9.18.10.3359), symptoms are the same: if i select other resolution, it will be changed back to to old value within ~1 seconds after drop down selection list is closed. With two monitors I can not change positions of displays either: windows program will not let me move monitor images and Intel program crashes as soon as I try to move image of moditor. Latest drivers from Intel download page are not compatible with X1C, so I have used the latest driver found by System update with initial installation. I can not reinstall that driver anymore, because installation fails with some error (it does not tell any details). Any ideas how I can fix this? Laptop:LENOVO ThinkPad X1 Carbon i7-3667U 14inch PHD+ 8GB 240GB SSD FDE Intel HD 4000 FPR 3G 4cell  W7P64+W8P RDVD  Type: 3460-CLG

When you turn on the laptop all you get is the back-light.  You don't get the splash screen, POST or anything else for that matter. I've tried using the FN+F7 to make sure it wasn't set to projector mode but that didn't do anything.  It's like the power cable to the LCD is connected but the data cable is disconnected.  I suspect this is the case due to the screen going "weird" as the user puts it.  I also suspect that it might have been dropped. What I am wondering is if there's a BIST (Built-in Self Test) for the LCD or anything like that.  I'd love to avoid the support charges. Also, the numbers on the white tags on the back of the laptop have worn off, is there a way to get the serial number without the original paperwork?

Since there is no way to see the X1 Yoga in person and try it out before buying I'm a bit concerned about how it handles the usage of active pen in combination with touchscreen functions. Does it block out any touch input while the stylus in near the display surface? This would be less than desirable since a lot of graphics software and on-screen keyboard shortcut apps require simultaneous use of both.

HELP!!!My Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon has some real problems. It's my work laptop, and it's brand new. When I got it, it worked fine until I brought it home. I haven't plugged it into the charger for 2 days. When I tried to turn it on (even plug it in), it was dead. The Lenovo Service team changed its motherboard. After that, it worked fine until I did the same thing at home. I tried to turn it on, but this time it was charged, but not used. When I got to work, it was still dead and the Lenovo guy changed its battery. My boss was really upset (for the second time). And now I should probably never mention to my boss that it's dead again. I used it at home for work, and now it just won't start. My charger is working properly, and while at work (while it was fine) I kept it charging all the time (like everybody else). I don't know what's wrong with this laptop. I mean, the motherboard and the battery have been replaced, and the charger works fine. I'm not doing any difficult work on it, I just use it for PDFs and Word and occasional web search. I can't go to work and say that my laptop is dead for the third time. I recently bought a X1 Carbon, it is the 2013 model. It's working fine, but when I run any game (like lol, or other non 3d) the ultrbook begins to overheat. It still did not shut down, but it is so hot, that it burns my fingers. The air is not so hot, and the fan is working. Is this normal, since I playing games, or should I worry? Can I do something to freeze it anyway? I try to use tpfancontrol, but get an error about not finding winio.dll. I run windows 8 pro Thanks in advance.

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2013 is overheating

did you get it new? If the machine is heating up a lot, but the air is not so hot, then this could mean that either the heatsink is NOT making proper contact with the CPU or that the heatpipe has failed. If i stress my X1 Carbon gen 1 with both prime95 + furmark, then the underside of the laptop gets hot (around 45 to 50), but it is not so hot that it will burn my finger. The air coming out of the vent is pretty hot at around 60 degrees or so.

Here is a set of thermography image whichi took using a FLIR i7 thermoimager when it was under extreme stress of Prime95 and Furmark.

Hello, I have bought the X1 Carbon and have problems since day one. The Laptop always bluescreens the hell out of me. I have tried almost everything but I am not able to fix this problem. The bluescreens appear kind of randomly. Sometimes it happens when I am typing a document, sometimes it happens when I am watching videos and sometimes it just happens when I am doing nothing at all.  Yesterday I installed Windows 7 Prof 64-bit from scratch (in hope to get that expansive laptop running!!!!!!!) and now I am not able to finish my Windows updates! The only driver I have installed so far was the one for my WLAN. Than I started my Windows Updates. After like 3 tries and 3 bluescreens I tried to select less updates (6 instead of 260). Now he is installing 6 updates (4MB) since 4 hours. I have tried nearly everything except a BIOS update. I have read that this could be a SSD problem? Not all X1 Carbons have WWAN; many were WWAN ready, with the antennas and SIM card slot fitted but no WWAN card. You need a machine with a WWAN card and a suitable SIM for WWAN to work.

I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 5 On the bottom right corner of the keyboard, there is a rattling noise when the laptop is shaken or moved. I opened the back cover to try to discover the source of the sound but I can't seem to find it. The laptop was purchased around 5 months ago, and I just discovered this issue. From what I can tell, the issue doesn't seem to affect performance but just poses a simple nuisance. The sound appears to be originating from the vent on the bottom of the laptop. sounds like there is either a small object moving around or perhaps a cable hitting the chassis. any insight on the origin of the issue or possible solutions would be appreciated.

Over the past several years there are many posts of users experiencing variations on this problem with X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga of various generations, including the latest ones (I provide a list below). That is, the systems often cannot come out of sleep mode in some way, shape, or form. I had this problem on my own brand-new X1 Carbon 5th Generation, right out of the box. In my instance, I noticed this issue in the following two scenarios: -After having gone in to sleep mode, once I opened the lid, or press power button once:power light goes from blinking to solid onscreen stays blank/blackseems that if the machine is going to be in the frozen state, keyboard presses do not "unsleep" it (which they normally would). Closing the lid causes the power light to go to solid on, but then opening it again does nothing.in a couple of rarer instances, the machine actually did come out of sleep but then instantly the screen froze (but this was quite uncommon, mostly it just wouldn't come out of sleep at all)-After passing the initial boot screen of Lenovo, the next part shows the Lenovo logo but without the swirling dots and is frozen (the power light would show on)Under both conditions: The power light is solid onThe keyboard lights functionality works: backlighting, FnLock light, mute lightSometimes you can hear the fan workingPlugging in to external display does not display anything on itThe only way to rectify is to do a hard shutdown by holding the power key With... Answer:X1 Carbon, X1 Yoga do not wake up after sleep mode -- issue continues across thinkpad generations

Hi lenanto!

The automatic forum SPAM filter moved your post aside, because it had so many links in it I think. With some help I was able to get it back. The other multiple posts on the same subject have been moved aside - it's just too hard to follow a discussion when it's splintered across threads.

I have had and still have several X1 Carbon's and X1 Yoga's and have not seen any of these problems. Do you have any thoughts on how to reproduce it?

It is a Lenovo Yoga S1 12.5 inch. The touch screen works fine in laptop mode, but as soon as I push the screen back to about 110 degrees, it turns into tablet mode and the touchscreen is disabled I need to be able to use the touchscreen while it's in tablet mode.

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga S1 - touch input does not work in tablet mode

Hi dudeguy Can you post your full Thinkpad Model number and the Windows version you are using? I don't have an S1, but touch screen is always working, no matter if it is on tablet mode, tent mode , or laptop mode..maybe the touchscreen should only be disabled when the lid is closed or the screen is turned off. It is very strange that it get disabled when you turn it to tablet mode. Just some "trial and error".- Check Windows Update and try to put any drivers up-to-date.- Try updating the drivers with Lenovo System Update- If you are using Windows 10 try install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows Store. I was trying to find something in Windows settings "Pen and Touch" that can disabled the Touch-screen in that way, but I haven't found anything. Regards

Today my digitizer stopped working for the first time since I purchased my Thinkpad Yoga several years ago. Touch screen still works as normal. I don't think it's software related because I dual boot Windows and Ubuntu and it doesn't work in either operating system. Before it would work in both operating systems, and I haven't had any updates since it was last working. Is it possible for the digitizer itself to be broken somehow? I haven't dropped the device or spilled any liquid on it. I've read elsewhere on the forum that the digitizer is powered by a capacitor that is charged within the laptop. Is this still true for Thinkpad Yogas? Are there steps I can take to diagnose the issue?

There's a lot of videos on how to upgrade the SSD of the third generation Lenovo Carbon X1, but none say if it's a standard format that I could replace with a 1TB SSD. I just found this Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB mSATA 2-Inch SSD (MZ-M5E1T0BW) and was wondering if it could work? It's only $390. I would just get the regular 128GB HDD when I ordered my new Carbon X1 (gen 3) and then swap this SSD in it's place. Would this work?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Carbon X1 (3rd Gen) 1TB mSATA HDD hard drive upgrade

No. The picture you have is a 42mm mSATA drive. You need an 80mm M2 drive (different size and newer-format connector) . I haven't seen any larger than 512gb

Hello, We have an Thinkpad X1 Carbon 2nd Gen (20A7, 20A8) Windows 10 x64 and the computer performance slowed down since we updated the system with Lenovo utility, the most relevant update is BIOS update us 1.31.1.19. The CPU usage increases from 5% to 9x% with no reason and its continiously increasing and decreasing without opened applications, we also installed Intel IO updates. Somebody have the same situation or knows how to fix it? Thanks,Regards

Answer:Thinkpad X1 Carbon 2nd Gen slow performance after installing Lenovo updates

That is the reason why I always going to see forums of new updates, those updates are like beta, with bugs and other things that cost us to waiste our time fixing it and getting stressed.I got critical update about bios, but as my performance is great I don't updating anything. My answer would be, to backup your bios version, it will get things back to work properly. And for future just don't install anything, after installing it cost problems.Yesterday I wanted to download program, yeah downloaded virus too, rofl, internet is full of virus, so technical supports could make more money ( if you can't fix yourself)

Hi

The touch of my Lenovo Thinkpad 8 tablet stopped working after last Windows 10 build update.

I'm able to restore the previous instation and then the touch restarts to work, but if I turn off the tablet and turn it on again it stops working. Every time I turn it on I have to restore the OS.

Any help will be welcome.

Thank you.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad 8 - Touch not working

Go to Lenovo's site and check for driver updates - ThinkPad 8.

If you have any doubts as to what drivers to update in the blue system update box, click Start Scan follow instruction and it should tell you what drivers you need to update.

Let us know.

I have a new Thinkpad yoga (but I had a similar problem with Yoga 2 Pro I had to return) - whenever I touch the screen to start typing (in the browser, word document, almost everywhere), the touch keyboard pops up and I have to manually close it.
This is extermemly annoying and sometimes leads to typos and stuff.

I looked into other threads which indicated I can tackle this problem through Lenovo Transitions, but that option does not exist on my control panel.

This seems like something that ought to have a simple solution but I can't find it.
Any thoughts?

Hey guys, I'm a PreMed student who's life revolves around his laptop. I'm always on social media, watching some show, listening to music, doing an essay, taking notes, updating some website, or emailing some person on campus. Of course, my old laptop broke. It was a Dell Inspiron. Now, I have a campus job and have been saving money(so money is not factor necessarily). After researching my options, I've narrowed my choices down to the three previously listed laptops. I just want to know which do you guys suggest and why?

Answer:Surface Book vs Lenovo Yoga 900 vs ThinkPad X1 Yoga

By looking at your requirement, you prefer on-the-go PC that lets you do all that on a decent budget, SP4 is better than SB(if you want lightweight device and decent battery life), Lenovo's are pretty good too. X1 w/o OLED seems to be a better buy in terms of ultraportability and battery life. You could wait for others to chime in.

connected at the same time over the usb.3.0 port on the ThinkPad OneLink Pro Dock (EU) 4X10E52941  then 2 USB 3.0 2.5 inch hard drives with 1.0 Tb each ......usb 3.0 Powered over the One Link Pro Dock .....simultaneous use is impossible with 90 watt AC Adapter... my question is ...a 90 watt AC Adater should still be sufficient ....or not...has anyone ever tried with with 135 Watt or 170 Watt AC Adapter...starting power performance may be sufficient...
my opinion is that the starting power performance with 90 watt AC Adapter is not adequate enough...or is the problem maybe somewhere else...Operating system is Windows 8.1Enterprise and all drivers are up to date and also the Windows 8.1Enterprise..is up to date...
Dear Lenovo and Lenovo community....who can help me in this case... to find a solution...so that everything can work together at the same time...
Thank you...

Recently installed Lenovo System updates and upgraded Lenovo Solutions Center to 3.1.003 on a Windows 10 system and several issues created including fingerprint reader stopped working and the Lenovo Solutions Center now only has Hardware Scan available on the menu.  I uninstalled 3.1.003 and installed prior version of 3.1.001 but still same problem. Reinstalled 3.1.003 and still same problem.  In addition, Lenovo Solution Center no longer listed in All Apps, but shows up as an icon on the desktop.  Anyone have a problem with limited functionality of the current LenovoSoluton Center?

I wanted to check about the replacement cost of the screen of Lenovo ThinkPad laptop X11 carbon series. My laptop has started to show half blank screen ..what could be the issue..can someone advise pls. Thanks in advance..

Answer:Thinkpad X1 Carbon screen damage

First, are you still under warranty?  The best screens are the ones somebody else pays for.

There are multiple generations and screen options.  Your model number from the sticker on the back would help.  If your model has the characters CTO in it, it is configured-to-order, so send me your serial number via private message.  Do not post it in the open forum.

I recieved my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 11e a couple of days ago and it came with a lot of bloatware, or at least what I thought was. I started uninstalling a lot and everything seemed to work fine. I restarted it, but when it came back, I noticed the touch screen would not work. I went into the Device Manager and realized that one of my I2C drivers had the triangle with the exclamation was on one of them. After trial and error, I realized that disabling and re-enabling the driver would allow my touch screen to work. After a restart, however, I was back to square one. My wife bought her the same Lenovo Yoga and I have been compairing the two. I just noticed that I am missing the I2C controllers in the System Devices in the Device Manager as well. I have tried booting from an installation from hers and even copying the drivers and System32 folder to no avail. If anybody has any solutions, please help. I have tried everything I knew and everything I could find. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 11e missing I2C driver. Drivers from lenovo website not working.

Hello and welcome,

What happens when you install the i2c driver for your machine?  Before doing so please verify the machine type (20D9, 20DA) as there's another machine type option available.  Downloads found by using SUPPORT above and entering Yoga 11e.

I?m looking for information about setting up full disk encryption on a client?s Lenovo Thinkpad Carbon X1 Type 20BS-CT01WW running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. The CPU is an Intel i7-5600U with 8GB of RAM. The C drive is a 500GB Samsung MZHPV512HGL-000L1 SSD.The data must be HIPAA compliant. Is full disk encryption the best way to protect the data with the least loss of computing power? In the bios there is1. supervisor password.2. Power on Password.3. If I go into Hard Disk1 Password I can select user and master passwords. What passwords should I set and how difficult should the passwords be? I want to protect the data without making it too difficult for the client to use his new laptop. Can the passwords all be the same? Is there a step by step procedure for setting up encryption on the laptop? Thanks,Alan

HOLA.
