HP Support - Order software and driver media help; unable to...

Question: HP Support - Order software and driver media help; unable to...

So, I didn't know where else to go to ask this question, so I put it here. If you know the answer in a different forum page, please let me know. The hard drive to my HP crashed and I recently purchased a new one. I have gotten to the point where I am going to need to obtain a new OS for it. I made it to the HP website, to the "HP Support - Order software and driver media" page to purchase the software/driver that I need for it. I would like to purchase it, but it seems that the website will not accept my Serial Number. It's nothing complex; it simply won't let me type it in. I am able to put in my information on the other bars (name, address, etc.), but won't for that line. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? I'm worried that it's going to tell me that there aren't any more left, which would be awful, and I'm hoping that it's just a webpage bug. If anyone could help, that would be great.

Preferred Solution: HP Support - Order software and driver media help; unable to...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have been having a very frustrating problem with my pc freezes almost every time I run a wmv or mp3 files ,whether its a file I've downloaded or streaming, and it doesnt matter which media player I use( WMP, MPC and VLC) ,Although when using vlc player , it doesnt freeze right away like when using the other 2 players(WMP and MPC),but it will freeze eventually It also freezes most of the time I try to view a youtube video, and even when using some of the msn messenger features like the sending a nudge. This problem, however, doesn't occur when I play rm,mov or avi files.

I didn't have this problem before, but at some point this started to happen...I thought my pc could be infected with some virus or malware, so I formatted my pc,installed new win xp pro and downloaded motherboard drivers, directx 9.0c(full package) and VIA_HyperionPro_V513A ...And after all of that ,the same problem still exist

-I have a GIGABYTE motherboard Model : GA-7VKML

Note* :I had a problem installing the audio driver( motherboard_driver_audio_realtek_whql.exe )..half way through installation progress, the pc shuts off and restarts by itself.

_ device manager looks okay,no yellow ! marks .

Help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

... there is no option to download & install a new BIOS via HP Support Assistant, it does not even mention it. I'm a bit unsure if to proceed now - heard that wrong BIOS updates can be fatal. On the mentioned website (see link below) there is no new BIOS mentioned for Win10 either only for Win 8.1. My current BIOS version is: F.34 Recommended on HP website (see link below) is: F.42 My product version according to seller is: HP Envy 15-K086ng 0714CZ IP  Windows 10 Home 64-bitIntel Core i7-4510U @2.00GhzBIOS: F.34228D 77.35NVIDIA Geforce GTX 850M ( ###### Why does neither Windows Updates nor HP Support Assistant nor Intel Updater mention this new BIOS? Should I just stick to the old version? Everything runs fine on Win10 except for a few shutdown issues. On 8.1 I had no issues whatsoever with the F.34 version. Thanks for the advice

Hello everyone, I have a problem that is driving me crazy. I am able to access all my channels when viewing them on my Windows 7 laptop using Media Center. When I hook up a HDMI cable to the laptop and connect it to my TV I get the following error.."display driver error the video playback device does not support playback of protected content". I have updated the video card drivers and this issue still persists. Does anyone have any ideas to solve this. I am using a HDHomerun Prime and this is the only way I have to watch live TV on my TV. Thanks in advance for everyone's help

Answer:Windows Media Center display driver error the video playback device does not support

"display driver error the video playback device does not support playback of protected content"

Infers the content/media that you are playing is protected and/or the HDCP handshake is not taking place. This is likely a hardware issue. The video chipset (ie: HDMI port) or the TV does not support HDCP.

Try viewing a different channel or content.

In an effort to update my driver software for my new laptop running windows 8 I have uninstalled the driver for my Nvidia card, which was not working properly. Before this, and after this I have tried to update it and always got the same response: The best driver software for your device is installed. It gives me that message even when "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" is the driver. I tried downloading driver software from the Nvidia website and it tells me "This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware".

My card is a Nvidia GeForce GTX 670MX.

Answer:Windows 8 Nvidia : Unable to update driver software

Laptop manufacturers sometimes use custom device IDs for their onboard graphics. Driver installers from nVidia may not recognize them.

It's best to get the drivers from the laptop manufacturer, if you can. It's particularly important if your laptop uses switchable graphics.

Windows 7 - In Devices and Printers, there is a yellow alert symbol on my Laptop icon. Clicking on the icon told me to
"troubleshoot". Troubleshooting informed "There is a problem with the driver for Lexmark X 422. Reinstalling the driver might fix this problem", and "troubleshooting" attempted to Reinstall the device driver.
It failed with a notification "Device driver software was not successfully installed". I looked in Device Manager to try to update the driver manually but  Lexmark X422 is not in the list of devices! Looking in Devices and Printers
I found the yellow alert symbol on my Laptop icon is also missing. What action should I take?

When I go throught the ordering options for the T410 (on the Canadian site), after the "System components" when I click "Continue", I'm taken to the Services and software page which is blank except for the "Continue" Button.  There are no options for what support/warranty to choose at all.  What's up?  Anybody else see this?  Are the options just being updated and that's causing a problem or is there something more going on?  Anyone know?

Answer:What's up with T410 order - no support options

i had the same thing happen.  i'm guessing it's only a 1-year option on the warranty.  you might want to give them a call to clarify.  (pls. post their response if you do.)

After a little consideration, my loose space key is not bothering me that much. But my "e" key has started to squeek. It is getting so bad that when i use the X220 to take notes during meetings, people smirks and silently laughs. It's getting kind of annoying. So!I've been browsing through the forums and the page but still can't figure this out:Is there a way I can actually talk/write with a real live human being and explain my situation? I want them to send me a keyboard as I'm pretty sure I can replace it myself, the manual and videos are great. My other option is to use a local company for the job, and that means I'll be without a computer for a week or so, and I'd really like to avoid that.  Thanks!

Just called the IBM/Lenovo parts department and tried to order a replacement heatsink for my T60 (the fan in mine is getting pretty noisy). I opened up the machine and compared it with the pictures in the HMM and the FRU is 41W0467. I tried looking this up on their parts website (not found) and then called 877-719-0841 and they just told me the part number is invalid. The parts line person told me to call tech support and gave me their number. I called and gave them the machine serial number and they told me they couldn't help me because the machine was out of warranty. They refused to even check if the FRU was valid, much less help me find an alternative p/n "because the machine is out of warranty". He kept saying it was a company policy that they would provide no information for an out-of-warranty machine. I asked if he worked for Lenovo or IBM and he said both. I asked to talk to the guy's manager and he said there was no manager for out of warranty machines and then he hung up on me. Amazing. I'm actually glad I called so I could see just how bad things have gotten. I was starting to think about a W520, but now once my T60 finally dies I'm done with Lenovo for good.

jayk, welcome to the forum,
Obviously not a pleasant experience.
If you could post the Type and Model Number of your system members will be able to check the part number you need. I personally suspect you may have a typo there and might be looking for 41W6047, you'll need to scroll down a little.

So I just ordered a Dell XPS 15 and got the confirmation email and everything. When I try to click on see order status a blank page shows up, when I try to search by the Internet Receipt Number, nothing is found. I tried calling Dell Norway several times, but a automatic voice machine say I should go to the website for answers or chat with Dell. I'm getting so frustrated with this I'm considering canceling my order!!

Started about a month ago - pops up over and over and over and over - about every five minutes or less.  I've got a Dell Studio XPS with Windows 7 Professional.  Another forum said to just uninstall Dell Support Center (Support Center Software) - but when I try to uninstall it - THE SAME STUPID WINDOW POPS UP ASKING ME TO INSERT THE SOFTWARE.  I tried doing a Browse and it's looking for DSC20.msi.  I haven't managed to find it yet.  I have at least found \Program Files(x86)\Dell Support Center but there's so many sub-directories...
I shouldn't have to be jumping through so many hoops just to uninstall a program.  This is driving me crazy and I haven't found an answer online yet.

I tried to order a DVD/ODD bezel as well as the rails w. screws which secure it when loaded into the bay. The tech support person with whom I spoke was rude and condescending beyond belief and just repeated the script "I hope your experience with Lenovo tech support exceeded your expectations; have a nice day" and hung up on me. If anyone has ordered these parts and can comfirm the FRU numbers, please post them here. If anyone from Lenovo lurks on these forums and does anything to actually help users rather than just deleting critical posts, the case number in question is A062FC7. I'd rather take helpful and polite in Manila than rude and nasty in Atlanta anyday.

Hi, When I ordered on Dec. 2007 the Recovery Disk for my Lenovo 3000 J115 desktop had to call 1-800-426-7378. Don?t remember the prompts, but found a rep that transferred me to what appeared to be the right department. May want to make sure you specify that it is for a Desktop or you?ll get bounced around to other departments, like I did. I gave the 1st rep all my info including model #, name, address, serial code, etc?, to place order, then at the end he asked if it was laptop and I said no and he had to transfer me to the desktop department & I had to start all over with the order.  Would like to have been able to order it online, but that option did not appear to be available. It was out of warranty when I purchased it so it cost around $60 with shipping. Now on a related note, my chance to vent about the 1st time I tried to order the recovery disk. 1st a little background info. Purchased my Lenovo 3000 J115 Nov. 2006. It was installed with Windows XP and had a voucher to purchase Vista upgrade, when Vista was released, which I did. Vista arrived around Feb. 2007, & I promptly installed it. So far so good. March 2007 purchased music equipment specifically Digidesign hardware with Pro Tools software to use with my new Lenovo computer.  I know comp. may not be built for that, but I?m just getting into music software editing. Unfortunately Pro Tools software was not compatible with Vista, no problem I thought, I?ll just Call Lenovo & order reco... Read more

Well itunes is really messed up. So I found out that if I just put what I want to listen to on cd and then rip to mp3s or whatever format I want there isnt a problem provided I don't use itunes to play them with.

So anyway I have an album in media player, the songs were not in correct order and so I changed them but media player will not see that. Even after looking up the album info it still will not change it. I cleaned out the registry and all that old stuff and its no good. Jet audio had no problems with the change. Anyway I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix media player so it will play the songs in order. Thanks

Such a basic question (apologies). How do you change the shut down order? i.e. Start, Shut Down and box that comes up lists "restart" first and I would like that to be "shut down". Done before on another computer...currently unable to figure out. Recently did dual boot, w/ Vista to XP (working pretty darn good, just a few tweeks here and there).

HelloI'd really appreciate your advice about how to make windows media player play my playlist files in the order they appear. I'm busy making my own cd and have to listen to the files in the right order. They are named with numbers first so that a quick sorting by file name is possible, eg. (names are fictional but they show my naming system) 001 Horses, 002 birds, 003 cuckoo song  etc.... up to 16 files. So they get sorted 001 - 016. This usually gets them ordered fine on Word but media player seems to function differently, as the songs don't get played in the right order. They go from 01 to 011 to 005 to g-d knows what, I can't figure it out. Nor can I find where it may be set to "random". Can anyone help please? Thanks in advance!!!!

Answer:play order on windows media player

Can no one help please? it seems such a trivial matter to solve yet I'm stuck with it....

One of my machines has been running 10 for the past 6 months during the insider program, and it is still running 10. This machine used to be a windows 8.1 machine before, though it was originally an 8 machine, and the only install DVD that I have is just that, Windows 8. Knowing that in another month or so I am likely going to start to get activation warnings, I figured I would take some time today (off work) to downgrade and complete the upgrade process. One thing I would love to do, is bypass having to reload 8, and then upgrade to 8.1, and then upgrade to 10. Seems tedious. I would much rather downgrade straight to 8.1, and then upgrade to 10, but to do so, I need 8.1 media. Unfortunately, the media creation tool appears to only contain the option to create install media for 10, given that I am now running windows 10. Anyone know of a way I can get a hold of 8.1 install media? I'd prefer to create a bootable usb drive, but will settle for ISO as well. Thanks in advance.

Answer:I need to downgrade to 8.1, in order to upgrade to 10. Media create?

It sounds like you upgraded from a genuine windows to begin with. You should not need to downgrade. If you are on build 10240 just go to Settings>updates & Security>windows update> advanced settings and click on "stop insider builds" it will ask to confirm and then you will be on the RTM side. If you are already on build 10525 roll back to 10240 and then stop insider builds. I'd try this first, if not over at eight forums in the tutorial section there was a link to 8.1 install media from Microsoft.

I picked up three thinkpad t60p units second hand from my university's surplus auction, but per their policy the hard drives were totally wiped (including all partitions). I have looked up the FRU part numbers (43T8618 & 46V2346) here and wish to purchase the cds & dvds as spare parts. I tried to enter the part numbers here but it said the part could not be found in the database. I then tried calling the phone number on that page (1-800-765-5944), but I kept on getting bumped around to different numbers. I DO NOT wish to pay for a tech support call, I just want to order the parts! In fact I can't call support at all since they require a serial number but I do not have a way to get this information. This is due to the fact that the bios have been password protected but I do not have the bios password (the surplus guys have no clue), the stickers on the bottom having seen better days (serial number is not legible on two and only partially legible on the last), and obviously there is no OS to boot into. The only information I have is the model number (8741-CTO) and the operating system that was on them prior to the wipe (two were xp professional and one was vista ultimate). Anyway, I'm not concerned about trying to get this covered under warranty, as I am prepared to pay for the parts, if only I could actually order them! Please, somebody from lenovo, how the heck do I order these parts?

I got a nasty little virus on mt T42!!!  I was able to copy the files to another computer and I am now trying to reimage with the an IBM Recovery Disk (disk #1) which I created as soon as I got my ThinkPad.  I wasn't able to do this.  Then, I tried to load Startup - Recovery Disk.  I wasn't able to do this. I finally decided that I had to change the order of devices that the machine looks at when starting up.  I Hit F1 on the startup screen, enter the BIOS, and then I'm prompted for a password.  I thit the the 'Enter' key and this seems to work.  I can then enter the BIOS, but I can't change the boot sequence in the BIOS.  I'm not sure if hitting the 'Enter' key is causing me to bypass the BIOS ocntrols, of if the virus disabled the boot sequence in the BIOS.  Has anyone delt with this kid of issue before?  Does anyone have any advice?  Please help!!! Thanks so much,Ryan---

Answer:Unable to Change Boot Device Order

Welcome to the forum! Your ThinkPad has a Supervisor and/or BIOS lock. You will have to get the password from whoever sold you the laptop. We are NOT allowed to discuss password cracking on this forum. Good luck.

Is there a best order to load software on a pc.I usually go, O/s, drivers, updates, anti virus, firewall, applications, followed by any other programs. All advice welcome.

Answer:Software Installation Order

very interesting question, one that has floated around the back of my mind. Also, i have wondered, does the order in which windows loads stuff on startup effet the time it takes to boot. To answere you question, when i recently re-loaded everything, i went;OS, drivers, Firewall & Av package, Update OS, Update AV and Firewall, the rest, update the rest. Seems to have worked. But dont know if it would have mattered if i did it in a different order.

i work for an internet business which sells on eBay. at the moment we take a lot of phone orders. obviously with eBay it keeps a record of the order on there, but with phone orders it involves so much paperwork being produced and filing, so when customers ring up to query something from a while back im having to go through loads of paperwork to find their order.

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a suitable piece of software that i can use where i would just enter details of their order, for example name, delivery address, items ordered and price etc etc. It would ideally be so if someone rings up and asks about a previous order i can open this program, click a few buttons and their order is in front of me.

im not fussed about keeping inventorys of stock levels and all that, don't particularly want anything over complicated, im good with computers and quite knowledgable but would prefer something simple.
another way i was thinking was to do my own "intranet" and have a form on there which i fill in and then it saves it on the computer so me and my two colleagues (which will become more as we expand) can view it.

i also looked into using microsoft access but not a fan of it.

any ideas would be much appreciated!!!
many thanks

Answer:Order Management Software

Hi Arron, welcome to the board!

I would recommend Microsoft Access, especially if you have it. Of course this could be done in Excel (which I am a fan of ) but as you grow and your information grows with your company, you'll be happy you started this in a relational database.

There are many Access guru's here and I'm not one of them. LOL! But you may want to think about changing your thread title (Thread Tools | Edit Thread) to include Access somewhere in there. Your current title is somewhat misleading. Also, you may want to check Office Online for templates, there are many you may find useful.

I have Windows 7 x64 and run Easy Image as my image backup. About once a week I do a manual backup of my C drive, then I copy that file to my two other backup hard drives.

I run two SATA internal hard drives, each with three partitions, and one SATA external with three partitions. On my first internal, the partition letters are C, D and E, and on the second hard drive the letters are F, G and H. That's also the way they are listed under Windows Disk Management and Acronis Disk Director, a partitioning tool.

When I recently had to restore Windows using the Easy Image backup, I just booted into the rescue media, and an explorer-type interface easily guided me to one of the backup files I had previously made and was storing on my hard drives.

The funny thing is, the Easy Image Rescue Media recognizes my drives with different letters when it's in DOS. It lists the first drive as C, F and E and the second drive as E, G and H. Also it looks like everything was just pushed up one partition. For example my D drive, which I use to store executable' s, doesn't even open on the rescue media. Instead the files that were on D all now show on E drive, and so on.

It's no big deal really, as I am able to easily find my backup image file, just not in where I placed it. But it's just weird. I thought it might just be the Easy Image software , but I tried out an old Acronis Rescue Media and it showed the same thing. I don't know if it would show that if Ea... Read more

I had accidently deleted the Qosmio player partition in my hard disk and now i am unable to install windows on my disk.
When I try to install windows it shows a blue screen with some memory location address and etc?

I think the disk partition table is corrupted and i don?t have recovery cd with me.

When i try this link [|] it give me a message like this

*For your device no recovery medium can be ordered, because it comes either not from the region of Toshiba Europe, or it is too old for this service.*

Please help me to recover my laptop or please give me a valid link to download the recovery CD.

Model No: Qosmio G20- 121E

With regards ABHI.

Answer:Qosmio G20- 121E - unable to order Recovery disk

You are not able to order the Recovery disk for this G20 because this notebook model seems to be too old for this service...
Maybe you would be able to order the Recovery disk from the ASP in your country...

I?m not sure if the ASP technician would be able to help you but it?s definitely a worth a try!

PS: the Qosmio Player can be downloaded from the Toshiba European driver page but you will be not able to download the Recovery image... The disk containing the Recovery disk must be purchased...

That was my question. I bought a new computer, acctually i bought the parts and i put it together. Everithing runs perfect but i do not want to connect to web cause i do not know what softeware to put on, or what combination of software in order to protect me from stuff that might hurt my comp. Any advice is more than appriciated.

Answer:What software to have in order to protect the computer

1. Common Sense (TM)
It is rare and hard to get, but it is definently the best thing out there. Not an option for most people unfortunately.
2. Firewall software
XP SP2 comes with a very basic one builtin.
3. Antivirus software
This should be obsoleted by #1, but it is good to play safe.
4. Anti-spyware

There is no point in paying money for #2 and #4. If you can find a place that sells #1, tell me too

Do not use anything Norton or Symantec. Better leave out McAfee too.

I need to clean several boxes this weekend and re-install Windows XP. I've always wondered in what order I should be re-installing drivers.

Here's what I usually do:

1. Network & Wifi drivers (for obvious reasons)
2. Video
3. Sound
4. Chipset (are these really required on laptops?)
5. Storage controllers (SD/card readers)
6. Any others.
7. Update Windows.
8. Apply basic tweaks (enable second drive page file and disable indexing)

Then, I pop in:

1. Firefox
2. Anti-virus
3. Firewall
4. Anti-spyware
5. Others (MSN, VLC, OpenOffice, blah blah.)
6. Defrag.

Any suggestions or tips or room for improvements other than slipstreaming updates?

Answer:In what order should drivers and software be installed?

If you forget to install something, install it later, no loss.
Once the OS is installed, install motherboard and gfx drivers (and AMD CPU patches), then the OS patches.

You would be wise to check with your chosen AV and Anti Spyware forums to see if there are any known issues in case you need to disable one of them to install the other properly.

Last week I finally received my Thinkpad T400 2764 CTO laptop. I noticed right away that the 7-1 media card reader was not included, I was certain I had customized the laptop to have one. When I looked better into things I found out that someone has made a mistake with my order. I live in Iceland and I ordered from the Lenovo USA site. The ordering process was a pain for me, I ran into so many troubles, mainly because of an international credit card. Finally I decided to pay with a wire transfer. So then they had to convert my original order to a quote since I was paying with a wire transfer. After I wired the money I got an email with a new quote but a different total amount. Then shortly after I got another new quote email with another different total amount. When I asked them about these strange emails I was told they had to make a new quote since it seemed the money I transferred wasn't enough (which is strange since I wired exactly the amount they told me to wire). Anyways, they said they had to make a new quote to give me the discount so I wouldn't have to wire the remainder of the money and delay my order even more. This had to be done to get the finance department to approve the quote and let it through. This is the answer I got from them:"It turned out that the wire amount you sent for your original order was not enough to cover the total cost of the machine. In order to amend the problem a new quote had to be created at a lower price to get approval from financ... Read more

Answer:Order mismatch - T400 7-1 media card reader not included!

The screwup is a pain. You could fight Lenovo on it. At minimum they should refund you the cost of the reader. I would just buy a cardbus or express card reader for $30 or so and leave it in all the time (try Amazon). I made the mistake of buying a 7-in-one when compact flash is all I really needed (and I have 2 or 3 cardbus CF adapters) so I had to bo buy an express card adapter.

Why on earth..?

I stick in a blank CD, and am prompted to pick a Win8 app. I select Windows Media Player (and am thankful Windows includes something so basic native vs. having to go find some unknown app somewhere.)

Per the prompt, I drag and drop files from Explorer to the box on the right of Media Player, creating a ?Burn list?.

Happy days. All is good.

But WHY does it not sort by file name!! I have no idea what the sort is based on. I have to reorder them every time. I have my files named in the correct order thus:

01_Favorite song this week
02_the next song
03_some song I liked on the last mix burn
04_still stuck on the CD-medium blues, in my truck, by Wes Montgomery Jr.
05_the shred of etc.

To be fair, I think Nero on my XP machine was the same way.

Any insight as to why the random sort (NOT in the order above after you drag and drop the group?) Any tricks to alleviate this silly little conundrum?

Answer:Burning a CD w/ Media Player miffed by random sort order

I have a recording studio and use Nero, which will set the songs in the sequence that you drag (add) them to the burn window or after dragging them to the burn window you can rearrange them as desired If you just drag all the songs from a folder to Nero they will be in alphabetical order (as set by Windows).

I've never liked the WMP for burning. ImgBurn is a very popular (free), burning program that is used by many. The Official ImgBurn Website

CDBurnerXP is another freebie that I like better than ImgBurn for audio CD's. It sort of has an old Roxio feel to it.

Hi folks,
Having reformatted a couple of months ago, I am now ready to put my music back on my laptop. I like WMP but also iTunes, especially as I have an iPhone.
However Im a bit confused as to where exactly I should drag over my music collection. If I put it in My Music, will only WMP be able to access it? Is iTunes looking in a different place??
Also for future use, if I import a CD to WMP will it also go to iTunes? Im unsure of this?
Or would I be better off just using one player, and which one!?

Hello. I just bought a T410s with 4GB but as it came with 32bit Windows 7 Pro, I can only use 3GB.I need the whole amount of memory so I need to upgrade to 64 bits. The main question .Is the cost logical to go for a recovery media through Lenovo Support centre or should I go the custom installation path? If anyone knows in european prices the approx. cost I would be thankful. Thank you.

Answer:T410s to 64bit (4GB ram) - Order recovery media or custom installation?

Since you already have a Windows 7 Pro product key, you can legally download a 64-bit Windows 7 Pro ISO from Microsoft and give it your Windows 7 key found on the machine's underside. However, non-Lenovo installs don't have Enhanced Experience, so that'll be a point of consideration.Drivers are easy; you simply download the ThinkVantage System Update tool and it can download and install all of the necessary drivers in one simple procedure. You can find a more comprehensive hardware manual here:

I prepared a playlist of tracks taken from 4 or 5 different CDs (mp3 files) in 'My Music' after which I opened it in WMP (v.11). The problem is that the tracks are not played in the order I originally devised and, what's more, WMP has somehow managed to change the order of the tracks also in the 'My Music' folder. I'm sure this is to do with the original track numbers on the CDs. How can I 'fix' the order of the tracks in my playlist?

Answer:Windows Media Player keeps changing the order of tracks in playlist

This is what I found out The songs play in the order they are entered into the playlist viewed on the right side of the player.

Hi, all.
As the title says, I have Windose 8 on a 64-bit Samsung laptop and I need to change the boot order to test if a bootable Linux CD works, which I intend to use if it does (or download it again and make a new one and use that), but I can't change the boot order from the OS to the DVD ROM drive.
Another thread online said something to do with Legacy but I don't know what that is nor how to disable it to see if I can enable and select booting from the DVD ROM drive.
Please help. Thanks.

Answer:Unable to Change Boot Order in Samsung Laptop UEFI

I don't know what model the Samsung is but in UEFI settings make sure SecureBoot is disabled. If there is a setting for FastBoot or QuickBoot then disable it also.
If there is a Mode listed set it to UEFI/Legacy.
Reboot and enter UEFI. Can you see change your boot device priority?
On a Samsung tapping Esc at boot may give you a boot menu that will let you select a boot device but SecureBoot should still be disabled.

I was able to change the boot order by moving the desired boot device to the first position at the top of the screen, double clicking on it and a menu pops up, then selecting the appropriate device. It then reboots to that device. Not very intuitive but... it worked.

I will be building my first PC from scratch I am wondering what is the order to install things. My guess would be

#1 Set-up the BIOS
#2. Install OS
#3. Install mobo drivers

(Do dvd/cd-roms come with drivers to install?, also what about harddrives?)

Answer:Order to install drivers/software after building a PC?

typically the drivers for the Optical drives and HDDs are included in the OS and the BusMastering Drivers w\ the mobo drivers (chipset drivers) next would normally be the Video Card, and additional add in cards, followed by service packs and hotfixes, firewall, and security

my securty checklist
applications would be loaded previous to locking down about half that list, its unfortunately not broken out as to the computers role and includes steps only required in a server, and others that would prevent loading some software, there are links lower down to the sites that spell out exactly how to accomplish those steps
and from which you should be able to determine their applicability to your system.

however connect to the internet only after your behind a firewall and have your hotfixes in place

even a small window of exposure can result in someone harvesting your IP, or worse being compromised by an exploit

Just in case anybody else either has a reason to need this information, or has something to add to it, I thought I'd better post information on this subject, as it's different from other Windows versions, and is not documented well in one place yet.

Attached is a modified computer generated log of my complete startup and shutdown. I made programs to cach it. It might be interesting to download and take a peek at.

It explains in a nutshell the order scripts will be executed in if you choose to configure all the scripts at once reasonably possible in Windows XP Proffessional/Media Center Edition. To sumarize what we can gather from these scripts:
1) Config.sys - This file may be present, but is ignored in Windows XP.

2) Autoexec.bat - SET commands will be run, the rest will be ignored.

3) GP Startup - The startup script configured in Local Policy will be ran.

4) AutoExNT.bat - If this has been installed, it will be ran and acts like autoexec.bat in previous Windows versions.

5) GP Logon - The logon script will be ran in Local Policy.

Looks as if I forgot to post when the task scheduler startup runs. However, the logs seem to be revealing a weird thing about Windows XP. It seems that it's possible that there's only about 1/3 chance that both a task scheduler logon script and a group policy logon script will both run. I'm trying to verify that that is indeed the case however.

i remember i asked this question long time ago and havent got a clear answer.

so browsing thru dell webpage i found this lil page that tells you the order in which to install drivers on dell computers and laptops.

id assume this would be true for all other computer systems...

heres the direct link to the page
Dell - Windows driver install order for desktops and laptops

and heres the contents
The following list is an overview of the correct order to install drivers on Dell desktops and portables. After reinstalling Microsoft? Windows?, follow the order listed when reinstalling drivers. It is recommended that you print this list for reference when installing drivers.

Note: Some devices may not function properly if the drivers are installed out of order.

1. Desktop System Software (DSS) or Notebook System Software (NSS) - A vital utility that provides critical updates and patches for the operating system. If you are reinstalling Windows or updating all drivers, it is important that this software be installed first. This is located under the System Utilities Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.

2. Chipset - Helps Windows control system board components and controllers. This is located under the Chipset Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.

3. Video Adapter - Enhances video performance. This is located under the Video Category on the Drivers and Downloads page.

4. Network Interface Card (NIC)... Read more

Answer:Driver install order

Well, since it says to, install the first driver first.
Then go and install the core drivers, such as the Chipset drivers. After that you can basically shove the rest on in any order.

The reason why you have to do that is some drivers will rely on other parts of the system software already being installed. If they aren't then you'll get failures. So on all systems what you're trying to do is install the most important drivers first, i.e any system drivers.

hope that helps a little

I am about to reinstall win2k, and was hoping that you could illuminate me as to the "best" order in which to install mobo/chipset, graphics, usb, printer drivers etc.

Also, am I correct in assuming that it is best to install all windows updates prior to installing any hardware drivers?

Since I last rebuilt, my system has been a bit unstable (relatively common bsod or ctd's when playing bf142), which I suspect may be due to dodgy driver installs.... from memory I may not have removed existing drivers when updating my gfx driver.

System specs:

mobo - gigabyte 7n400l
gfx - gigabyte 9600xt 256MB
realtek onboard sound

Thanks for any help... great site btw.

I personally go with that order you have above chipset, graphics etc

as to windows updates, I would do those updates right after the chipset & graphics drivers, those are the two main ones the others can wait a bit until you have all security and os updates.

I generally download all the relevent drivers, security programs and updates ( the service packs can be downloaded in full, rather than the live install ) before re-install as it saves going on the net with an unpatched PC.

If you have Windows 8, just insert the media and install it as per normal installation. You should not have to worry about what files are installed in what order. Drivers that you might need you could install after the Windows installation. You might need another computer with internet access to get the drivers you need as for if the Ethernet Adapter driver is not bundled in the Windows 8 installation then you will need another computer to get the necessary driver(s) for devices that require drivers beyond the standard Windows 8 installation.

Hey everyone!

I know there are people that maybe want to play with beta products and I will give directions where you can get some tools to test beta product.

1) VMware. You will need to register before you can download the wanted VMware product. VMware Server is also for free.

2) Virtualbox Not all software will work as they should on VirtualBox, for instance CIS, Kaskpersky and some more.

3) Microsoft's Virtual PC

4) You can also use Paragon Backup & Recovery Free Advanced Edition to clone your existing physical machine and create a virtual machine that you can then open with VMWare Player. It's very easy to do and I haven't had any problems with the resulting virtual machines. Written by HeffeD at comodo forums

VMWare also has a converter that will make virtual clones of physical machines, but I haven't tried it.

Hi there!

Problem is pretty straightforward. Whenever I try to open a video file (whether it be .wmv, .avi, etc) through the File -> Open menu, whatever media player I'm using (except Winamp... that works for some reason) crashes! Both VLC and another program says that the "ModName" was msyuv.dll in the error report, so I guess that's a start. I've done full system virus scans, full system spyware scans, defragged twice with Diskeeper, cleaned and defraged my registry, downloaded a new copy of msyuv.dll, deleted my msyuv.dll in C:\Windows\System32 and rebooted (which forces System Restore to install a new copy), and NONE of this has changed a thing. Well, the only thing it has changed is that in some programs, the video file now opens after a 5-10 freeze (but the PLAYERS still keep crashing... applications that edit video files only open), but when trying to add a second, it crashes again. I've also uninstalled/rolled back WMP11 and removed all it's runtime modules, but that hasn't changed a thing, and I'm also fully up-to-date on Windows Updates.

As you can see this is a bit of a doozy. One thing to note is that I can still view video files fine if I find them through the Windows Explorer and right click -> Open with <player name>. Going through File -> Open causes the program to crashes and/or freeze. Winamp is ABLE to view videos through File -> Open, but no other player can (not even applications like VirtualDub are able to open video me... Read more

After installation of OS install at first drivers for different hardware components like

Chip Set Utility
Display Driver
Sound Driver
Toshiba Software Modem
Cardbus Driver and so on

After that you can install all Toshiba Tools & Utilities. Please be careful because the first of them must be ?Common Module?. And then go on with:
Toshiba Power Saver
Toshiba Utilities(HW Setup)
Toshiba Mobile Extension
Toshiba Controls
Toshiba Console
Toshiba Display device

I hope that you will install your unit successfully.

Here's the story:

I have an HP Compaq 6910p notebook that came with Vista. I'd like to downgrade to XP. HP has a list of XP Pro drivers for the 6910p on the HP Support site.

For the life of me I can't even understand what some of these drivers are. I tried installing them and am left with several unknown devices in the Device Manager. I need someone to help me decide which of the several drivers listed for the 6910p are meant for my machine. It seems like there are duplicates.

I'm guessing the order of installation of the drivers is important as well. I tried searching online for a guide but was unsuccessful.

Answer:Need someone smarter than me to help with XP Pro driver installation and order

well the thing with HP laptops is you won't be able to install the wrong driver anyways. If you see several wireless drivers for example (usually IntelPRO or Broadcom), you can simply get them both and one will tell you that that specific hardware doesn't exist. Just use the other.

I'm sure you'll be getting posts below mine asking this, so I'll start it off: Why are you removing Vista?

My P70 is on its way, now Windows 10 Anniversary Edition is out and I was wondering what the recommended upgrade order / path is?  1) I assume it will not come with Anniversary installed.2) I assume it will  not come with the absolute latest drivers / bios / firmware installed.3) After reading the forums, I see all the issues people have had upgrading bits as they have come out. Should I let Lenovo's auto update SW do its thing or should I intervene and install in a particular order? Should I get Anniversary Edition installed then upgrade drivers / bios / firmware or the opposite? Thanks for any official or unofficial suggestions. Adam Hill

Answer:Thinkpad P70 OS / Driver Upgrade Order

As Bobby McFerrin used to sing " .... don't worry, be happy."  In all likelihood, you machine will arrive with correct drivers and utilities and perform well.  I'm actually not certain that any critical drivers for P70 have been updated specifically for Anniversary Edition.  In any event, while your questions are good ones, there is probably no satisfactory answer, other than the observation that (unlike earlier OS versions) it seems to no longer matter which sequence of updates you choose. First step:  make an image backup if at all possible (make a bootable Macrium or Acronis USB stick and create a full image before you even boot-up the first time).  Since most of us don't do this, there are alternatives to securing factory image, if necessary.  Order the full USB factory distribution (or download it) from Lenovo as soon as machine arrives; that way any misadventure can be easily undone. If machine arrives with less than current version of Win10, you can either run background update or download the complete Anniversary Edition from Microsoft and then manually upgrade.  I've used a fresh download without issue. Windows 10 does a reasonably decent job of finding and loading necessary updates and drivers.  Lenovo's system update seems to be a bit of a "hit or miss" affair -- sometimes it finds latest updates, sometimes not.  In any event, everything you might need is posted on the Lenovo support we... Ive been told that if i reinstall Windows XP Pro SP2 (not using the restore disks) I must first install the "motherboard drivers" or none of the other Toshiba modules will install correctly. Sure enough, on my last attempt, most of the modules would not install and displayed an error as i started the installation.

Which driver package must I install first so the others will install properly???

I've got a problem with a machine. It's a Dell Laptop -- D505. I've installed a sysprepped XP on it using SCCM OSD and when it reboots to run minisetup it hangs.

I fire up safemode and I see the last few drivers are:

I assume is AGPCQP causing problems. I fire up the recovery console and disable it. Reboot and it hangs. So I fire up safemode again, and now it's stopping at AGP440.

Long repetative story short, I disabled everything up to MUP with a reboot to test each change and it always hangs at the driver before the one I just removed. Kind of tells me it's the next driver that is causing the problem.

I fire Advanced Startup Options (F8) and enable boot logging. I let it try and start and after it crashes (I let the thing sit for like 5 minutes) I fire up a WinPE install and look for the log file. There is no NTBOOTLOG.TXT file to be found anywhere on the drive. Because it doesn't create this file, I can't see what it's doing...

Any ideas on what I can do to find the next driver that is loading on the system? I don't get a BSoD -- it just hangs.
