Fingerprint reader not working.

Question: Fingerprint reader not working.

Hello, My notebook is an HP DV7T-6000 CTO Entertainment Notebook that I have upgraded to Windows 10 64 Bit. The original operating system was Windows 7 Home and the fingerprint reader worked at that time. After I upgraded to Win. 10 it had stopped working. I tried to look for a solution but didn't have any luck. I made an image of my notebook, about 6 months ago and saved it for a later time. Some time after making the image, I found a way to make my fingerprint reader work again, but didn't save the instructions or the downloads for it. I know, I'm beating my head against the wall. Because of suspecious notebook behavior, I reloaded the image I saved and now I can't seem to find a way to make my fingerprint reader work again. I do remember that it was an updated driver for my laptop that made the fingerprint scanner work again, but I don't remember what the updated version was. If any of you could help, I will be truly greatfull. Maybe, at some point, I can stop banging my head against the wall. Thank you!

Preferred Solution: Fingerprint reader not working.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC has recently had some issues, so I had to reset it to factory settings (Windows 7) and then upgraded again to windows 10. Now my fingerprint reader is not working, I do not have windows hello on my laptop at all, and I can't even find it as biometric devices in my device manager. can I do something to make it work?

Answer:After upgrade to Windows 10 my fingerprint reader stopped working - HP. How can I get it working again?

Do you see any unknown devices in device manager?
Make sure and check Windows update to make sure windows is up to date.

I have a T400 (2764-CTO) with a fingerprint reader. A few times since I got it (less than a month), I have gotten into a state where the system is requesting a fingerprint swipe and then repeatedly says my finger print was too short and asks again. I'm not even putting my finger over the reader when it is telling me this. It even happened once when the lid was closed and I was connected to the docking station. I can't even login with my password because the fingerprint software keeps flashing up the too short message. Is there an adjustment I can make??? My fingerprint software in Lenovo Fingerprint 2.0 version 3.1.25.80. Jim

Hi !I am using a Lenovo 3000 N100 A34 laptop. Recently my fingerprint reader has stopped working. When the Omnipass fingerprint logon screen comes up , I wipe my finger on the sensor, but nothing happens. It used to work fine previously but after I touched the sensor with a tester to check whether there is electric current in the body, my FP reader stopped working. Is the sesor surface damaged? What should I do?

I have a ThinkPad T42 laptop with the fingerprint reader. I running version 5.6.2 of the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software. How do I "turn on" the fingerprint reading function? When I boot the computer, it asks me to swipe my finger for the Window's logon. But at no other time am I given the option to use my fingerprint scanner (such as trying to sign into my Amazon.com account). Is there a Ctrl or Fn key that I need to use? I have obviously enrolled my fingers correctly, since I can swipe my finger for the Windows logon.  Thanks.

In the Think Vantage program folder you find the Think Vantage Client Security Solution. There you can activate several fingerprint applications.

I booted my laptop yesterday and found that my fingerprint swiper was not working.  The message on the screen kept flipping from "please swipe finger to continue" and "press any key to login".  I don't know what caused it and i'm running a full system diagnostic right now, but if that doesn't fix the issue is there a way to fix the swiper or bypass it?  The most unfortuante thing is that I have forgotten my windows password to boot.

UltimaNemo, welcome to the forum, it would be helpful if you could post which R-series and Operating System you have, even better post the Type and Model Number this will help members to help you. Please do NOT post your s/n. I also suggest you try hard to remember your windows password. How to subvert this is not allowed to be discussed here as stated in the forum rules.

My Lenovo T440s laptop has a fingerprint reader, and I used it to log in to my computer. However, it suddenly stopped working. According to it, it can't get an image of enrolled fingerprint image. Not only that, when I try to log in after turning on my computer, it doesn't let me use other ways to sign in either, like password or PIN. When I press it, 2 seconds later it just switches back to fingerprint method. I have trouble signing into the computer. How should I fix this?

The laptop I ordered is the following:Product sku: 20AQCTO1WWProductnaam: ThinkPad T440s I added the fingerprint reader to the available options. This week I wanted to start using it,  however I am unable to do so. It does not show up in my device listing (lsusb). I tried to enable the device in the BIOS and reset it and here I came across the following problem:"No fingerprint reader is attached" (continue) It seems to provide a good reason for not finding the device using lsusb. So what is wrong with my laptop? What else can I try? Please note that I am working on Linux and have no Win8 installed at this moment.

Hi everybody, my name is Giovanni, and I live in Italy. This is my first lenovo, but I've been using my father's thinkpads since their birth. So, I tried to use my fingerprint module, but when I try to start "Lenovo Fingerprint Software" or "Thinkvantage Fingerprint Software" I get an error depending on which of those two software I use.Lenovo Fingerprint Software says: Fingerprint sensor not initialized by the application. Access denied.ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software says: Cannot find fingerprint sensor. Error code E7210005. Second question: which is the difference between those two software? Should I remove one of them? I am using windows vista (soon will upgrade to windows7). Thankyou in advance!

Answer:Fingerprint reader not working

Hi, I hada similar problem, I was using "Lenovo Fingerprint Software", after a Windows update it stopped working with an error saying the software "cannot communicat?e with fingeprint sensor". I searched the forums but could not a solution. During my search I found there are two pieces of software - "ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software" and "Lenovo Fingerprint Software". I had already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the  "Lenovo Fingerprint Software", without success. So uninstaled the fingerprint software, went in the BIOS under Security/Fingerprint and "Reset Internal Fingerprint data". Next I downloaded the "ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software" and installed it. All working ok now, it actually seems to recognise my fingerprints quicker. The only thing now is that "ThinkVantage System Update" keeps promting me to install an update "Lenovo Fingerprint Software Version: 3.3.2.27", the "ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software" is Version: 5.9.5 Build: 7038. I have hidden (Do not show this update option) because I am happy with the "ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software". It would be interesting to know why there are two versions of this software and what is the difference between "ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software" and "Lenovo Fingerprint Software".

I have a Lenovo W530 with fingerprint reader. In the past it would both turn the computer on then log on and wake the computer from standby or sleep. About 4 weeks ago I upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 10 Creator and the fingerprint reader will now wake my computer from sleep but requires the Windows password to be typed in. When turning the computer on the reader still works. Has anyone heard of this and a solution?

Hi guys, this is my first post here.I just bought an HP ENVY a week ago, and everything was working fine till I updated the fingerprint reader and now it isn't working anymore. I can't set up the login by Windows Hello, it always says that I'm not scanning properly and flashes with a red light, but the thing that worries me the most is that the light on the sensor turns on and off even when it's not supposed to. For example: I open a new tab on Chrome and it goes on and off for like two minutes. Yesterday it went on and off all the time. This obviously this drains out my battery, so I wonder what could I do to solve this. The problems started when I updated it. Thank you for your attention.

My fingerprint reader worked fin for 3 days. All of a sudden, it stoped working as a logon tool. What I mean by this is if I go into the fingerprint config software, it allow me to delete old fingerprints and scan in new ones. But as soon as I get out of the software it does not work again. The green light does come on. Any ideas?

Hi. I upgraded the above software  3 days ago to ver 5.8.6.6874. The fingerprint reader now is not recognized by ThinkVantage applications - Password Manager etc. Do I need to roll this update back and can this be done? I have one other query. My T61 sits in a port replicator most of the time. If there is a power outage the whole thing freezes and needs to be hard booted. I would have thought it would switch to battery without this problem. Any ideas? Thanks

try re update the bios firmware with the previous version. When you say freeze, do you mean it doesn't respond to external keyboard and mouse command?

The only thing i can think of is uninstall then reinstall the driver for it and see if it works again. i have two ibm thinkpad laptops with that feature and i dont even use them because to me personally they are a nuisance and after one went haywire and locked me out of the computer i said i dont need this headache anymore.i had to take the hard drive out remove the driver for that and reinstall the hard drive. no more problems after that.

I had various user names and passwords registered on numerous websites.
From IE7, I could use the fingerprint reader to input the user name and passwords to these sites.

Since Windows update installed IE8, the fingerprint system does not work within internet explorer - it works as normal for all other programs and logon.

I figured out it must be a security thing in IE8, but cannot work out how to re-enable the fingerprint software into IE8.

Answer:Re: Tecra A10 Fingerprint reader not working with IE 8

Hi

This issue has been posted sever times here in the forum and it related to the compatibility issue between the old Fingerprint Truesuite access manager and IE8 and Firefox 3
As far as I know the newer Truesuite access manager software v3.0 or higher should solve this issue.
But we have to wait until such update will be published!

Cheers

Does anyone else have the problem of the fingerprint reader not working after hibernate? This is an intermittent problem, doesn't happen all the time, but frequently. Come out of hibernation, it is blinking, swipe my finger, nothing happens, blinking stops and the reader doesn't work after that. I have to enter my Windows password and it doesn't work for any websites. Have to reboot to re-engage the reader. I'm on Win 7 Home Prem 64 bit with latest drivers for the fingerprint reader and lastest update for Authentec software.

So here's the solution(s) as found by Pokey and me: Option 1:  Computer, Properties, Device Manager, Biometric Devices, Validity Sensors, Properties, and the Power Management tab, Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." Option 2:  Try disabling and enabling the "Credential Manager" service by going into Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, Credentials Manager.  Even though the Credentials Manager status is ?Started,? stop the Credentials Manager service and restart it. Find more information here:  https://support.authentec.com/Forum/tabid/318/forumid/49/threadid/600/scope/posts/Default.aspx Option 3:  Do both.

The fingerprint reader on my W541 laptop stopped working.  It's been working for more than a year, and worked last week.  Now it's not working - not illuminated & doesn't read my fingerprint.  Going into 'Settings' (Windows 10), 'Accounts', & 'Sign-In Options', it says "Windows Hello is not available on this device".I believe 'Windows Hello' is the software that runs the fingerpront reader.Any ideas of what to look for to get this working again? I have not loaded any new software since last week (when the fingerprint reader was working). The last system update installed was:"Intel Corporation - Bluetooth - 11/14/2016 12:00:00 AM - 19.30.1646.853" - installed on 2/1/17 (4 days ago). The fingerprint reader worked OK after that update.

I purchased a Lenovo 3000 N100 a few weeks ago, and the Omnipass fingerprint reader program worked great at first.  Then this morning, it no longer let me log in.  I have Omnipass set up so I can use my fingerprint to log into websites (email, etc).  When I went to one of these websites, Omnipass came up with the top part of the dialog box, but not the bottom part with the fingerprint screen.  I couldn't close Omnipass after that either.  I had to log off my computer and log back in to make the box go away.  I think something is wrong with the Omnipass files on my system.  I don't want to uninstall Omnipass, because I don't know how to get it back.  Can anyone help me out? PS- I am using Omnipass version 5.Message Edited by natedog55902 on 02-07-2008 09:05 AM

Answer:Omnipass fingerprint reader not working

Look in the lenovo folders on you C:\ drive for a folder called LPRA, the setup.exe in here will install OmniPass again if you uninstall it. BTY the OmniPass version that Lenovo seems to be shipping is very outdated and causes headaches with Windows Updates (it will create two logon accounts with certain updates more info here: http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windows.vista.administration_accounts_passwords/msg/... ) Lenovo ship version 5.00.18 which has been replaced with 5.00.75 which fixes all these bugs. I believe it is time for Lenovo to UPDATE THEIR VERSION to 5.00.75 and stick it on the ThinkVantage updater!Message Edited by ljbade on 02-15-2008 09:11 AM

Hi all,
These two pieces of hardware have been working intermittently for the past several months but now have failed completely. Device manager recognizes them as on and working properly but neither of them detect anything, which makes me suspect a ribbon cable or something similar. Any leads on what could be causing this, or quick hardware possibilities to check? Thanks!

There is a ribbon cable connecting them to the motherboard but usually to reach it you have to first remove the keyboard and maybe the palmrest to see where it plugs in.

Hi dinomon, Welcome to SF,

Have you install proper drivers for your Finger Print Reader device. If not go to their website. Download the Lastest drives for Windows 7 then install it. See whether it works or not.

P.S. Please fill the System spec so we know what are we dealing with.

Hope this helps,

Hello,I have a brand new T540P with a Validity fingerprint reader.  Rougly 80% of the time, the Fingerprint reader is unresponsive at the windows login screen after waking the computer from sleep. It works 100% of the time when booting from an off position, however. Once logged in, it also works 100% of the time. The issue only arises when logging into windows. Things I have tried-uninstalling/installing device in device manager and finger print manager pro software-setting fingerprints through both fingerprint manager pro software (lenovo) OR through the built in windows fingerprint control panel options-disabling "allow windows to turn off this device to save power" in device manager. I should note as well that I have another T540P that I ordered as a replacement. Both models experience the same issue. Is this a platform wide issue affecting all T540P models? This is frusterating.

Hello The fingerprinter reader stopped working after a recent Windows 10 update.  Actually, it sort of works.   After shut down, it works when I reboot.  I get through the bios security.  But, when login stalls at the Windows login screen.  There, I have to enter the password from the keyboard.   When logged off, I have to use the keyboard to log back in.  The fingerprint reader doesn't work at the Windows login screen.  Any assistance is appreciated. Thankskarlo

Answer:X1 Carbon Fingerprint Reader not working

karlo,

What version/build of Win10 are you using?  Are you participating in the Win10 insider program?
We heard that latest insider build has some problem with fingerprint, seems to be some OS bug.

Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post but feel free to let me know if this needs to be re-directed. I've had an Elitebook 840 G2 for about 2 months with Windows 10 installed. I frequently used the fingerprint reader to log-in. However, as of yesterday, the fingerprint reader no longer seems to be working. I'm unable to log-in with the reader and when I try to set up a new fingerprint, the reader doesn't read it. I tried looking for the fingerprint reader driver but that's not listed for my model anywhere. Any guidance for what next steps are would be great. Thanks!

Takes 4 or 5 swipes to log on. Resuming from sleep the reader doesn't work at all. Tried to update and/or add a fingerprint. When I use the finger I usually use it recognizes the print and says that it is already registered. When I try to add a fingerprint the app reports it is having trouble recognizing the input. Result is I have to enter password to resume from sleep.Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated.

I believe it drains too much battery power during sleep/hibernation/full shutdown. I turned it off in BIOS (1.09), set stop using it, and removed fingerprint data in Win 7 and Lenovo's fingerprint management. Surprising, the light is still on after complete shutdown or in sleep mode. Gosh!

I've been using this fingerprint reader for 1.5yrs now. Lately when I turn on my computer, sometimes it's working and sometimes it has a red "x" over the icon in my startup menu in bottom righthand corner. I had to reboot 3x this morning before I could get it to work. It worked for a while and now nothing. There is no red x showing, but it's not scanning at all.

I went to HP site and downloaded lastest version of the reader, rebooted and still nothing. Any ideas?

I use Vista Ultimate op sys. My computer is HP HDX18t, 64 bit. (I installed Vista, 64bit version update from HP site.)

Thanks for your help!

Hope someone can help me with this, Windows update offer me newer driver for my fingerprint reader AuthenTec AES2501A and after that update reader simply stopped working. If I try to enroll fingerprints it sais Windows did not find any biometric devices, also it says same at logon screen and I always need type password which is annoying. There are no 7 drivers for my laptop model, only Vista. I upgraded from Vista to 7, driver was installed under Vista and it did always work with 7 with no problem, stupid me I went and updated it I removed driver and now when I do new hardware scan Windows can not find driver for my device or if I tell it look online, it will install same driver that does not work. Vista driver comes with ThinkVantage security solutions and the installer simply will not run under 7 (operating system not supported error). What to do? Is there any way to make installer not check my system? Or how I get driver out from exe file? I don't want install Vista and then 7 again and all the programs, I will spend all day on it

You can use the vista driver if you install it in compatibility mode. to do this right click the installer>properties>compatibility mode>check vista. then install

I have an X1 carbon just purchased in January of 2016.  it came with Windows 10 and and all off the updates from Lenovo and Windows have been downloaded and installed.  the device manager says the fingerprint scanner driver is up to date. The fingerprint reader no longer works.  I receive messages such as " try using a longer stroke" or "move your finger to the right".  It worked in the beginning, then it would take several strokes before it registerd and now it does not work at all.  I have tried to register a new print with Windows and after about 20 trys it tells me the finger is already registered.  Then I tried a different finger and I just keep getting the messages refered to above.  How can I fix this?

Answer:fingerprint reader stopped working

Try clearing the fingerprint sensor from BIOS Setup:

1.  Reboot
2.  Press F1 to enter BIOS Setup
3.  Change to the Security page, and then select the Fingerprint item
4.  Choose the option to Reset Fingerprint Data, and then wait for it to finish
5.  Press F10 to save/exit and reboot to Windows 10
6.  Delete your fingerprints and try enrolling again, from the Settings -> Accounts -> Sign-in Options screen

My fingerprint reader has stopped working again. It started working after the last Windows 10 update, but after some time it just stopped working. I got a message saying to "swipe my finger slowly". Other times it said to "swipe finger more to the left" But no matter how many times I tried the reader just did not recognized my fingerprint. Now the reader's light is not even visible when I swipe my finger. I have not updated Windows again since I'm waiting for the latest update of Windows Creator to be available for my laptop.  All the other available updates for my laptop were supposedly installed on 4-17-17 Any help? Thank you.

My fingerprint reader doesn't seem to work on Windows login anymore (no light on the reader and it doesn't accept any fingerprint) in the past couple of days so have to login using a password. The fingerprint reader works fine in the BIOS and also when I go into the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Reader application i.e. it asks me for a fingerprint. Has this happend to anyone else and has this been caused by a specific MS patch in the last monthly patch cycle? I have reinstalled both the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software 64bit (v 8102) and the TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor driver (v 1.6.1.341). I'm running a W530 and fully patched Windows 8.1 Pro

I just bought HP Probook 4530s Ci5Ram 6 GbHard 740 Gb1 Gb graphic card RadeonOperating system win7 64bit I downloaded the driver software and digital persona software from HP website, the device manager of my system is showing that the driver is installed correctly (Named as Biometric devices, and under it Validity sensor, its version listed is VFS471). But on windows log on it is showing detecting reader, and then reader is not detected. Same is happening in the software (Digital persona). I tried different softwares from different websites.  Please tell if you know something NEW. I said something new because I saw many people on many websites looking for that problem. But the problem is there. When I run the setup of Validity sensor driver, it install fine. Then I run the latest Digital persona software it says on its installation ("The system cannot verify that the fingerprint readers is installed"). And under it here is a option to SKIP that part. When I do it, it completes the installation and restarts the computer. After that same problem "Reader not detected" on windows log on.

I periodically have to reinstall the Fingerprint drivers to get the reader to be recognized & WORK. This time when trying to get the diagnostics, I get : ? Yes, but it's not in my Add/Remove options :  ? Then I get this:?  It's all a big black box with no,user visible, physical dialog.  I never know when an update/install is finished or locked. Waste more time waiting, not knowing if the task completed.  Yes, I can find out using rigmarole procedures that I SHOULD NOT have to do on a WORKSTATION.  I waste more time cajoling this system, then doing actual work. Question:  Anyone else have intermittent issues with the Figerprint Reader on a W540 using the latest Win 10??

Still trying to solve the Fingerpring Reader failure.  This time, even after reinstalling the reader, I see nothing.  No reader, or activity. Trying the Solution Center, all I see - stalled - just sits and stares at me: ? No activity notes, the logo just stays there, no [X] to close.  I have to do the Win command Alt-F4, and it closes but I have no idea if something is being written when closing.  Rebooted, checked the disk, tried again, same thing, just a pretty logo and a fingerprint reader that no longer works. Event Viewer tells me [Service Control Manager] event id 7000 error.  The error link to MS, just takes me to an infantile MS page telling me how great the Surface Pro 4 is.... no help screen as in the past. Note that I wasted more time testing  for Malware or Virus. System is clean, everything else works fine.

Good evening, my fingerprint reader/simplepass stopped working after my computer received an update this past tuesday. Let me give you a timeline of event. I tried to reinstall simplepass- it would not let me do it because I was told to remove aunthentec driver. I wasn't able to remove authentec driver in the begining, so I used the instructions in another post and did it via the registry. I tried to reinstall simplepass, it would not allow me to do it, saying I already had a software that perform the same function. tried system restore, failed about 6 times. deleted all programs and restarted to download simplepass and it worked, however, It is not the one that uses fingerprint data. I tried to reinstall my old simplepass, and it work This is the error I get after I finally was able to reinstall simplepass "The truesuite engine failed to initialize properly. Restarting the application, restarting the computer, or reinstalling the application may fix this problem. The application must now exit" so, how can I find the truesuite engine? thanks

Model: ThinkPad Edge E420OS:       Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bitProblem: Fingerprint reader suddenly stopped working (Image 1). One major change I think which might have lead to this - I had a recent update from Microsoft on 28/Aug/2014 (Image 2). I'm not sure though that this must be the cause of the problem.Troubleshooting tried: I tried first to repair through "programs and features" but did not work. Then I tried to uninstall and reinstall the FingerPrint reader software (Latest version available on Lenovo Website for my model). Still did not work. I'm pasting photographs of the error. I've tried to follow all the methods shown on various threads on this forum but nothing worked so far....Even the TouchChip (Fingerprint) patch driver for Windows 7 (64-bit)  which is compatible with Windows 8.1 doens't install. Answer:Re: Fingerprint Reader Not Working On Windows 8.1 Pro Startup

For Windows 8.1 you should not be installing any fingerprint software.  You should uninstall ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software.  The driver you need (for TouchStrip Fingerprint Sensor) will come from Windows Update.  Then you can enroll fingerprints from the PC Settings -> Accounts -> Sign-in Options screen.

If there is a problem with the device in Device Manager, try removing it and check the option to delete the driver software.  Then reboot, run Windows Update, and a compatible version for your system should be installed.

It used to happen occassionally. Where I would attempt to use the fingerprint reader and nothing would happen. Now it just doesn't work at all.
I try to open the fingerprint reader program but it says "Failed to connect to the sensor."
Why do you think it's failed to connect to it and how can I get it to connect?

Answer:Fingerprint reader seems to have randomly stopped working

Sounds like there is a bad connection.
I would send the laptop to an Authorized Service Center for repair.

There is an ASP list on the Toshiba Website.

Hi, I've found funny problem with fingerprint reader on my x220t: It works great for some time after restarting, but after then I am unable to log in with it to Windows. So let's say it works two times and then it stops working. When laptop is suspended swiping finger will wake it up, but it will not log me in. Wnen I wake it by opening lid or power button fingerprint reader green LED will be on, but swiping finger will not log me on. Furthermore if I don't swipe my finger and log in by password LED will stay on all the time waiting for swipe. I'm using both password and fingerprints for login what I find more convinient at the moment if it helps. I think it might happen when my last login was by password, but it is just mu guess. Second question: I'd like to switch to fingerprint only login, but it takes something like 10 seconds from pressing power button to moment when I'm able to scan my finger (same when I start laptop using it, I have to wait to LED on reader to flash for login like it's restarting or something) and sometimes it is *10 seconds too long* (especially when using as a tablet). Any way to speed it up?

Answer:Fingerprint Reader not working Win 7 x200 tablet

I found a curious work around.  I tried all the various combinations of drivers available on this site and in desperation tried a AES2810 driver from DELL.  So here is what you do:  Search for and download this file from DELL:  R207052.exe and put someplace such as your desktop.  It is 14,712,832 byte file.  Then uninstall the Authentec Biometric Device in Device Manager and then delete then in Control Panel under uninstall programs, uninstall the Authentec Truesuite application and then uninstall the Lenovo Fingerprint software and reboot.  Once rebooted, install the DELL software.  Go to Device Manager and under Biometric Devices, click on Enroll Fingers and it will bring up the DELL software which will allow you to enroll fingers.  Reboot and low and behold you will swipe your enrolled finger and VIOLA, no more typing in password to log on to Win 7.  I do not work for Lenovo(obviously)I do not work for DELL PS: it only allows you to log on to Windows.  It does not have a scroll feature in things like internet explorer.

Hi all, I recently purchased a ThinkPad E550 (20DF0040US) and the Fingerprint reader (Synaptics) was working when I first set up the machine but now, after a week's worth of ownership, it is no longer recognized. I searched the forums here and found that an older driver worked to solve the problem for others but it did not solve the issue for me. I tried to reinstall the most up to date driver and that didn't solve the issue either. I am running Windows 7 Pro which came installed on the machine. Some users indicated that Windows updates are the culprit but I cannot confirm this. All my Windows updates are current and there are no updates pending from Lenovo. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Answer:B570 Fingerprint reader stopped working - need help

dimmaemmy,

I split your message off from the other thread that was more of a general complaint rather than focused on getting help for the finger print reader.  While it seems like this has happened to at least one other person, the community doesn't seem to understand what is going on just yet.

Can you tell us a bit more about the situation?

How long have you had the B570?  Which model is it? (There is a type number on the bottom that should be 7 characters long - this will help us get more information).

Does it ever work?  Is it just buggy, or was it working fine and then just quit?

What have you tried already?

Generically, we'd suggest:

1) Check BIOS to see if there are any settings for FP enable / disable
2) Check device manager - does the fingerprint reader show up - would be under biometric devices (I think)
3) Have you downloaded and re-installed the drivers?

OK - assuming you've done those things we have some choices on next steps.

You could try to back up your data and then use one key recovery to restore system to factory state - this will wipe everything.  If something has become corrupt software wise, this should fix it.  If not, you just wasted some time and will have to reinstall your stuff.

You could call service, they could try some things over the phone, possibly offer to remote into your system and try to fix it, or arrange for you to send in for service.

I kind of mentioned this problem in a previous post and was directed here http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67245 which is a patch that could possibly fix it.This patch didn't work. What is happening is when my laptop comes back from sleep either the fingerprint reader is unresponsive, it says "waiting..." at the top of the screen instead of the normal scan message and is unresponsive, or in some cases when I click other credentials it shows a third account (first is my account, second is the reader account, and the third is a stop sign thing that says the fingerprint reader isn't attached). When I sign in with my normal password and try to go to the fingerprint software it pops up a little window that is labeled Lenovo Fingerprint 2.0 and the message is "Pleae wait...". Other then returning from sleep the fingerprint reader has been working fine. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks. Edited to add patch link.Message Edited by Skurvy_Pirate on 09-22-2008 07:40 PM

Hi,          E420 1141DUQ.  My laptop was not switching on possibly after the bios update and I contacted the service centre. They replaced the planar and found that touchpad not working but fingerprint reader was o.k. They then again replaced my planar for 2nd time. Answer:Fingerprint reader not working after changing motherboard.

Hi akhil4299, So are you using Preload Windows 7? Please check in BIOS -> security -> IO port access to check the status of fingerprint reader. You might contact local lenovo to see possibility of test with preload HD?Fred

Are you able to enroll another finger?  Does the enrollment application give any error?

Answer:fingerprint reader on hp 8460p with windows 10 not working

1. Try steps from: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c037182402. Since this is a 8460P unit, install HP Client Security or HP Protect Tools software instead of SimplePass.

In the last few weeks, I have noticed the fingerprint reader on my 4th Gen X1 Carbon works infrequently. I find that upon boot, it only works about 25% of the time. The remaining times, I am forced to enter my password and the fingerprint driver shows an error in Windows Device Manager. I am running the lastest version of Windows 10, have completed all recent BIOS updates, and have attempted to reinstall all relevant drivers several times.  Wondering if anyone has had a similar issue or if support can provide a solution.

Hi All, I recently (about a month ago) was one of the unlucky fellows who had microsoft sneak the windows 10 upgrade onto my W530 laptop. Long story short, everything seemed to be OK, with the occasional blip with the fingerprint reader when I had to manually enter my windows password. However, on a hard boot, the fingerprint reader always worked, which was critical as my computer has 2 passwords on start up that I do not remember and thus had always relied on a swipe of my finger.  Well that all changed yesterday. I was in windows when my computer crashed. Upon start up, i was immediately asked to enter in my supervisor/bios password without getting the chance to finger swipe. After multiple reboots, the same. The fingerprint reader wont turn on any more and I am locked out my my laptop.  Can anyone please help? anyway to get the fingerprint reader to switch back on???

In order to power up my T410 with Windows 10, I have to press the power button and then when Windows 10 brings up the sign on screen, I can then swipe my finger to sign in. I have the boxed checked in the Lenovo the fingerprint software to use fingerprint for power up and the green light is lit on the scanner. Using Thinkvantage Fingerprint software verison 5.5.9 build 7282.

Answer:T410 Windows 10: Fingerprint Reader not working on powerup

Windows 10 is not officially supported on your T410, but for any chance of this to work you need to be using ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software version 6.0 (not 5.9.9)

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds036923

After installing this version, you may need to delete all your fingerprints and enroll them again.

Hi,I am suspecting a hardware failure, but wanted to check the forums first anyway.I have an X230 Tablet running Windows 8.1 Update. Fingerprint software 6.0. Was working fine (i.e. swipe to power on and log on to Windows and the Lenovo Password Mgr) until this morning. No more green light on the sensor, no function. Windows says that the fingerprint sensor is not available. It was still showing up in Device Manager, I uninstalled it as part of some troubleshooting and it's not being detected anymore now.Any ideas other than hardware? Thanks,SA.

Answer:X230 Tablet fingerprint reader stopped working

It sounds like hardware failure but try one more thing:

Reboot into BIOS setup (by pressing F1 at the ThinkPad logo screen).
Go to the security -> fingerprint menu.
There's an option about clearing the fingerprint sensor storage (or something like that).
What happens?

The fingerprint sensor doesn't work. I tried installing the drivers for it, but then, I try to enroll my fingerprint, and, well, let the pictures do the talking. The sensor doesn't even show up in Device Manager. Any help would be nice.Error

Hi there, I upgraded to windows 8 and the fingerprint reader stopped working. I've tried the many fixes that I can find through Google but can find nothinjg specifically about windows 8 on tihs site. Is the short answer that Lenovo don't have a fix for this yet?  Should I just stop looking? I've spent so long trying to find a solution, if htere isn't one I just want to know. ThanksSammh

Answer:x200 fingerprint reader not working after windows 8 upgrade

Hi Sammh and welcome to the Community,

You have an AuthenTec reader.
Go to here and follow the instructions to uninstall the reader and then follow the link given to download and install the driver provided.

This is the one I'm using on an x61 and it is working in Windows 8.

Regards,

Dave

So I just got my sp4 with the new keyboard and sometimes when I am typing quickly the space bar doesn't register. I've noticed it mostly when typing on Google Docs. Has anyone else experienced this problem yet?

Hello, I am trying to enable the fingerprint reader on my Thinkpad W350. I have look at a lot of topics on here but none seem to help (this was closest to my issue http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/Fingerprint-sensor-is-not-detected/m-p/1342587#M2... I have downloaded ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software (Windows 7 64 bit) and get the following errors: - E7210005 - Cannot enroll user.- E7210005 - Cannot update passport.- E7210005 - Cannot find fingerprint sensor device. This should install drivers as the ReadMe file says "Device drivers for fingerprint reader are being installed when installing ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software." - When I check Device Manager it shows no 'Biometric Devices' section. When I go to the Biometric Devices screen via Control Panel, it says "Windows did not find any biometric devices on this computer". I have downloaded Lenovo Solution Centre which detected no issues with hardware (one warning with Device Manager which says 'Mobility Client Virtual Adapter' is disabled, but I think that is unrelated. I have downloaded Lenovo System Update which does not altert me of any fingerprint drivers (I performed all windows and bios updates). I even tried to install the 4.5.122.0 driver ( http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/ls4c71a2.exe) but did not work... Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad W530 - Fingerprint Reader not working

Reboot and press F1 to enter BIOS Setup.
Use the arrow keys to change to the SEcurity menu, and select the item about fingerprint.  Then choose the item to clear the fingerprint sensor.  What is the result?

I have a Thinkpad T440 with windows 8.1 Enterprise and a strange problem with the fingerprint reader. After reboot, I can logon with no issue to the domain using fingerprint. When I lock the PC and try to logon again, biometric logon is not available and I'm unable to authenticate with fingerprint. When I do a "switch user", biometric logon is again available on the logon screen and I can logon to my session with fingerprint. I've installed the latest Lenovo software via System Update, also all Windows patches. Client is joined to the domain, I have local admin right. Clients running Windows 7 do not have this issue. Any help from the community?
