Latitude E4300, Windows 10, Enable Touchpad Scrolling

Question: Latitude E4300, Windows 10, Enable Touchpad Scrolling

I recently acquired a Dell Latitude E4300 with Windows 10 installed. The issue is, I want to enable touchpad scrolling but cannot find a driver that works with Windows 10. The latest one is for Windows 8.1 and it will not work. Are there any alternative drivers, or something I can do. This is a huge deficit from an otherwise great machine. Any reason why Dell is not making them and/or if they could (hint hint anyone out there working for dell, this is in high demand i imagine).

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Latitude E4300, Windows 10, Enable Touchpad Scrolling

The problem is that the nine year old 2008 Latitude E4300 was only validated/tested by Dell for Windows XP/Vista/7.

Because there is not a dedicated driver for it, Windows 10 would have to provide the touchpad scrolling ability. You are saying it did not. You may attempt to force the installation of this Windows 10 Dell Multi-Touch Touchpad driver. But again, we never tested it on the 2008 Latitude E4300.

Hello all,

I recently installed Windows 7 x64 onto my Dell Latitude D630 and found that the scrolling with the touchpad does not work at all. I have already downloaded and installed the Synaptics driver and nothing happened. I also downloaded R165804.exe directly from Dell's site and it came up with an error saying that 'the software does not work on your operating system. Click OK to exit.'

What now?

Answer:How to Enable Scrolling on Dell Latitude D630 Touchpad?

The Dell downloads do not show a touchpad driver for Vista 64 bit. Just the one you have which is listed for Vista 32 bit only.

Try installing that in a compatibility mode and see if that will help.

You can also post on the Dell laptop forum and maybe someone there will have something for you. Officially Dell does not support Win 7 on this model, although Vista drivers should work OK.

Help!  Mouse is jumping all over the screen - I believe because it is easy to accidentally brush the touchpad while typing.
The Control Panel - Mouse on this Latitude no longer has an option to independently enable/disable the touchpad and the pointing stick - but surely there is a way to do this on this e4300.
Am running XP - 32bit.
Thank you!

Answer:Disable latitude e4300 touchpad

Hello pstaats,
Update the driver from under driver and downloads, enter your service tag and under input devices the alps driver, once updated you should get the option to turn the touchpad off when a USB mouse is present.

Answer:How do i enable scrolling on touchpad

Have you downloaded any touchpad-associated software from the Dell site? They may have adapted the Synaptics driver themselves."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Pink Floyd

When I go to the Control Panel > Mouse, I get an error message that says that my laptop is not recognizing my touchpad.

It still lets me open the configure window if I hit "no," and when I go to Device Settings > Scrolling > One-Finger Scrolling, it does not let me check the "Enable Vertical Scrolling" box. When I click the box, nothing happens.

My Synaptics driver is enabled to turn on at start up, so I don't know why this problem is happening.

I think I must have disabled something in msconfig without realizing it, because one day when I turned on my laptop I just wasn't able to use vertical scrolling. Any ideas? Advice would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Answer:How do I enable touchpad vertical scrolling?

Hello moonlightxmania and welcome to Seven Forums.

If this issue just recently started you may be able to roll back your computer to a date/time prior to when it first began. See if you have a restore point that goes back that far.

System Restore

Another possibility is to see if you can update the Synaptics driver. Just as an example, my computer uses the Alps pointing device. When I go to control panel > mouse I get this:

When I click the Hardware tab and then double click on Alps pointing device I get this:

Click on the Driver tab and see if the "Update Driver" button can be clicked. (Mine is grayed out because I have the newest available driver.) If you can update the driver, do so. Please post back if your problem gets resolved.

Is there any way to invert the two-finger scrolling on the touchpad?  The default behaviour is for a gesture downwards to scroll the screen up, and a gesture upwards to scroll the screen down - probably taken from OSX and easily the worst and most frustrating "feature" of my new laptop at work.  There is no option to reverse this in the touchpad settings.

Answer:Invert Two-Finger Touchpad Scrolling on Latitude 6430

Thank you a thousand times over! The reverse scrolling was driving me nuts.

Hi! I recently bought a second hand Dell Latitude E4300 laptop. It comes with a pre-built Windows 7 Ultimate operating system. Drivers are not yet installed so I manually download the drivers in the Dell website and install them. I used this guide while installing the drivers. I have problems in installing some drivers. Somehow I cannot install Intel Matrix Storage Manager. I skipped this part.
My laptop runs Centrino 2 vPro. According to Wikipedia, Centrino 2 Laptops have WiMAX, I also found a driver in the support page (of my laptop). But then when I tried installing the WiMAX driver, I got an error. It says: "The software package cannot be installed on your system. The setup application will exit".
I also tried installing Embassy Security and its drivers. I tried enrolling my fingerprint. But an error ocurred: "An error ocurred fingerprint enrollment. Please try to re-enroll this fingerprint. If you continue to receive this error, please contact technical support". I tried opening Control Vault WBF and enabling Windows Biometric Framework. But whenever I enable it, it says: "Error: Could not enable WBF Interface".
I installed Latitude ON to my device, it boots up normally. But it doesn't seem to get the email from the Outlook (Outlook 2010 is installed). Also, keyboard is not working when I boot in Latitude ON. However, trackpad and touchpad works perfectly (as well as their buttons).
What should I do? Thanks in advance!

Hi - does anyone know how to enable the mouse scroller on the mouse pad?
I assume this is software enabled but can't find how to do it.

Answer:How to enable Touchpad scrolling on a Satellite 2410

a little hint, hope it helps you:

Click on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Mouse and then after you reached the "Mouse Properties" there should be a tab named "Advanced".
Mostly there is special software from the manufacturer, and there the settings can be modified.

Otherwise, look into your "Toshiba Console" if you can find something there.

Previously using Vista this function was enabled so please advice me how what to do. Great thanks!

Answer:Satellite A300D-16W - How to enable scrolling function on touchpad?

Have you tested an external mouse on the notebook?

In your case I would try to update the touchpad driver. You can find it on the Toshiba website: => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

Remove the old driver, restart the notebook and then install the new driver.

Click and zoom function is working good.
It is hard to believe what this model do not support touch pad scrolling at all. ((

Please, advice.
Thank you very much in advance!

Of course you should be able to find the touchpad settings in control panel -> mouse -> pointing device (last tab) -> Settings button.

But this requires the installed touchpad Synaptics driver. Was this driver installed?
If not, check this Synaptics driver page:

Hello all.

I see from previous posts that this issue has been addressed in some way or another a few times and I have tried several of the fixes, and have had no success.

1. I have a toshiba L300 next to me(girlfriends), and this feature works fine. V annoying!!
2. I have never been able to enable the scrolling. I know where the setting are and have tried to check/uncheck the boxes/ press 'apply' then ok and the other way around.
3. I have re-installed the drivers from toshiba(synaptics).
4. I have updated the bios from tempro. Although I only registed for tempro recently, the dates on the list of updates seemed fairly old. ie. not much new stuff available anyway.

Thats where im at!
All advice would be apreciated.
Also, are Realtec drives related with the touchpad in some way??
Cheers Phill
I have about a month left on the warranty, so hopefully this would be something that may be covered if no-one can help.

Answer:Satellite Pro A210 touchpad synaptics cannot enable virtual scrolling.

In my opinion everything you already done is right and I?m really out of idea what you can try except most radical solution ? OS installation with recovery CD/DVD. After doing this you will have ?factory settings? again. As far as I know virtual scrolling is enabled by default and it should work after first start.

So doing this you can make the ?ultimate test? and be sure if this function works or not.

Will the Latitude E4300 ever be tested for windows 10 compatibility?

I project onto a second screen using a VGA to HDMI adapter, and usually works completely fine but once in a while, when I hook it up and it displays to the large external screen, it fails to fill the entire screen. For some reason it's completely sporadic. Usually it will fill it up but sometimes it won't. I am not sure how to make it fill the screen up by default or what. Sometimes if I go into display settings and tool around with it and extend displays, rather than duplicate then, which I do, and switch back, it works. but I would rather just have it do it automatically.

Answer:Dell Latitude E4300 - Projecting to an external screen

Unknown as to the culprit. It could be a non-supported Windows 10 issue and not having the needed drivers. You can attempt to use the Intel Driver Update utility to see if it will install newer drivers onto this 2008 laptop.
Run the free Intel Driver Update Utility and see if it installs any newer or missing drivers. Once installed, Click Start- Intel Driver Update Utility- Intel Driver Update Utility 2.0. Then click "Auto detect...". When done, restart the computer and retest.

I have a Latitude E4300 with integrated webcam. I'm thinking about upgrading my laptop with a WWAN Module (e.g. Dell Wireless 5530 PCI Express Card).
Does anybody know if this is possible? There is a note during the laptop configuration on the Dell website that either the integrated webcam or the WWAN module can be selected.
If I cannot use both at the same time (but even the slot for the PCI-Express Card and the slot for the SIM are there), can anybody tell me what are the technical restrictions?
Thanks for your help!

Answer:WWAN upgrade? (Latitude E4300 with integrated webcam)

It's possible to use WWAN and the webcam as they use different ports. The WWAN uses the spare mini pcie slot next to the WLAN card, simply remove the access panel and screw the new card in and put the antenna leads onto the card. You will need to install the driver for it but it works and is able to be used on Windows 10 as well.
Hope that helps!

Can anyone advise what might be wrong with my Dell Latitude E4300 laptop. When I turn it on I get the following screen. The screen shot below is from when windows has finished loading up. When I fist turn it on the bottom half of the screen is like in the image below but the top half is totally black. Windows loads normally going by the usual start up noises, and it can be shut down through the keyboard.
I think it might be a graphics card or chip  issue rather than an issue with the screen itself. Would anyone know what might be causing this issue and if/how it could be fixed? Although it's a very old laptop it is still very useful and a good size for travelling with so I would like to rescue it if it can be done economically.
Many thanks

I have a Latitude 12 E7240 (I assume the touchpad is the same on all versions) and I would prefer to have the older style single finger edge scrolling style rather than two finger scrolling.  I've seen under Windows 7 that the 109 version of the drive shows an extra section at the bottom of the touchpad settings which allows edge scrolling however I've tried that version and the other two available on the Dell site for this laptop but I don't get that section.
Are there any other drivers I can load that would get the edge scrolling option?  I don't mind losing any multitouch features of the touchpad.

Answer:Single finger edge scrolling on Latitude E7240 with Windows 8.1 Pro?

See if you have this file. This executable allows you to enable single finger edge scrolling, but, as I just found out, it goes away and needs to be reapplied after a windows update. Store it somewhere where you will find it next time! ;)
1) Go into c:\program files\DellTPad\
2) In this dir I have
 a)  DellTouchpad.exe: this is the app called from control panel whose picture you posted.
 b)  DellTPad.exe alternate utility to set touchpad setting. When launching this I have this option (translating into english) "one finger actions/multi-finger actions", and then it allows you to set single finger vertical/horizontal scrolling.

Hi. I have a Dell Inspiron 14. 2Gb Memory Core2Duo.

I can;t scroll Sideways but I can going up and down.

Answer:Dell Touchpad not scrolling Sideways. But scrolling Up & Down

On both my Acer aspire one netbook (synaptics) and my Lenovo notebook (alps) I need to tab twice on the lower edge of the touchpad (to gain its attention?!?) and then it will scroll. Beyond that I believe you need to take a walk on the Dell support web site. There are number of 14xx models so you need to follow the steps there to find the freshest driver for your particular model. On both of mine the newest drivers have given scrolling as well as "pinching" to re-size pages, photos etc.

Hi all, I apologise if this is dicussed and solved already elsewhere, I have searched in vain on various forums but can't seem to find an answer. I have just bought a new laptop and the touchpad scrolling is reversed, so that left makes the screen scroll right and up makes the screen scroll down and vice versa. This may be helpful for a touchpad, but on a laptop it's just irritating. Solutions seem to say, and indeed show, that within the settings there is a button to turn off reverse scrolling, however, this option is not present within my settings menu, only the option to change the pointer speed. For further clarity, it's the single finger scrolling I'm having an issue with- within the synaptics settings, there is an option to turn off reversed two finger scrolling and so that's fine. I appreciate any advice or assistance that you may be able to provide. Many thanks.

We just got a Dell XPS-15z, and, we have questions about scrolling on the Cypress touchpad using the Cypress drivers.

When scrolling down (either one finger or 2 fingers), when you hit the bottom of the touchpad, is there any way for the scrolling to continue without your having to lift your finger(s) back to the top of the touchpad? On other Dell laptops, I have Chiral motion, or the scrolling continues so long as your finger is at the bottom of the touchpad? I tried enabling the "Continued Motion" option just in case that was what did it, but that did not seem to work.

Which brings up another question re what "Continued Motion" does.

Also, is there any manual/help document for this driver either on the internet, or in the software itself?

I looked on the forum and on the internet, and couldn't find any answers.

Anyways, recently I installed Windows 7 32bit on my Toshiba Laptop, everything went well and I installed all the drivers that I needed in order to make webcam and function keys to work etc.

Answer:Touchpad scrolling doesn't work after Windows 10 upgrade

I don’t know what notebook model you have but fact is that not all notebook series are supported for Win 10 upgrade.
In such case the Win 10 drivers will not be released for such unit….

The touchpad scrolling requires additional touchpad driver…
If your unit supports Synaptics touchpad, you could also use the driver from Synaptics driver page:

But currently driver for Win 10 isn’t available… you could try to install and use the Win 8.1 driver but I’m not quite sure if it will work properly….

On 2 brand new Latitude 5580, the touchpad is not available under Windows 7 x64.It's not listed in device manager. It works fine in the bios screen and in Windows PE.
On the Dell driver page, all drivers are available for window 7 except the touchpad one. Strange!
Tried the latest and the previous bios version. Legacy and Uefi boot.
At a certain moment after reinstalling various chipset, etc drivers at once one unknown device appears in device manager. If I look at the properties I see ACPI/DLL07A8
When I google on that, I got one result from a suspicious driver sites which listed it part of Alps touchpad?
I checked various alp drivers from the dell site, bit the inf file is missing the DLL07A8 model, so driver is not installed.
At the general tab of the device, I see Serial IO L2C host controller. What is this? Is touchpad making use of this controller?
I hope to hear if someone got an idea, or DELL could fix this with an update?

Answer:Touchpad not supported on Latitude 5580 Windows 7 ?

Windows 7 is not supported at all on these systems, which use seventh-generation Kaby Lake CPUs.
Only WIndows 10 is supported -- and even if you can find the drivers, Microsoft has blocked Windows 7 and 8 updates on Kaby Lake systems, so you won't be able to run Windows updates on them.
As of this generation, you have two choices:
Standardize on Windows 10, or
Continue buying older hardware if you must run Windows 7.
The seventh generation CPUs are the end of the road for Windows earlier than 10.

I have a Dell Latitude D630 laptop that has issues. Sometimes the touchpad works, and sometimes it doesn't. I've noticed when it doesn't work, the icon in the tray has disappeared or never booted up to begin with. Sometimes it boots up and sometimes it just doesn't even boot up to the tray at all. And at other times, it does.
(Along with this, maybe it's just a coincidence, but I've been working on this for days and days but when the touchpad doesn't work, the keyboard acts up too!) This might have nothing to do with it at all.

I've done a complete reformat of the hard drive, installed Win XP Professional, reinstalled drivers over and over. Been to the Dell website and have all the newest drivers.
When I reinstall the touchpad drivers, it does work once again, but this seems to be short lived.
The laptop is 4 years old...seems strong otherwise, can handle multiple tasks fairly well, has a dual core installed.
I can't figure it out.
Can anyone help?

Thank you!!

Hi everyone!

I recently updated my P55W-B5318 to Windows 10.
I had a problem with the touch pad right away.

As there was none. I googled it, updated the drivers and it started working again.

Now the problem is I can't scroll with it.
I use two fingers and slide up and down but I do not get anything.

Anyone else have this trouble and get it fixed or can anyone point me in the correct direction?

Answer:Satellite P55W-B5318 - No touchpad scrolling running Windows 10

Touchpad scrolling is an additional feature which appears only if Touchpad driver (in your case I assume its ELAN touchpad driver) is installed.

So please check if ELAN touchpad driver is installed.
If it installed, go to control panel → mouse → ELAN (I guess its last tab)

Here you will find additional settings and the scrolling must be enabled under → EDGE SCROLL

Just bought my first ever ThinkPad and the touchpad will probably make me return it. The problem seems to be that the driver can't figure out the current target to scroll. If there's just one window open with one scrollable area in it, then it works just fine. At least the two finger scrolling. But as soon as there's more than one scrollable area the scrolling gets messed up.Switching around between different windows sometimes actually causes it to scroll stuff in an underlying window. The mouse might be positioned over one area but scrolling makes a different area to be scrolled. And if the scrollable area that happens to be the TouchPads target (not the one under the cursor!) is disabled then scrolling wont work anywhere. Imagine the impact of this behavior in a development environment with loads of scrollable panes and's impossible to use this machine. So it's clearly a driver issue, any suggestions, upcoming driver release or should I just send the machine back? Here's the config...OS: Windows 7 Service Pack 1Device: ThinkPad UltraNav Pointing DeviceDriver Node Strong Name: oem44.inf:IBMMfg.NTamd64:LENOVO_GROUP17_InterTouch_Inst:*len0034  /Joakim

Answer:W540 TouchPad scrolling targets wrong windows and areas

I also have this problem and it makes me hate my computer and will probably return it if they can't produce a fix for this. It is obviously an issue with the Synaptec drivers as the scroll wheel of an external mouse works perfectly. Synaptec tells me to go through Lenovo and I can't get in contact with Lenovo. Horrible issue on a really expensive laptop.  //Thinkpad Yoga i7.

This will be easier if you have a usb mouse and/or keyboard to use while correcting your laptop.
Go into settings, devices, device manager. In device manager expand mice and other pointing devices.
Right click your touch screen device (Elan Input Device), and left click uninstall to uninstall the driver.
Windows will want to restart to complete the action. Allow Windows to restart, it will reinstall the driver, and you should now have functionality returned.

Last week I accepted a Microsoft Windows update. Sine that update I can not get the Satellite to recognise its touchpad and the only driver updates that work are for a standard PS2 mouse. I can no longer use the bottom and side scroll features of the Toshiba touchpad. What drive am I looking for to rstore the touchpad please?

Answer:Satellite A210 touchpad scrolling disabled after Windows Vista update

You can find the Touchpad driver here:

Firstly remove the driver from Control Panel -> Programs and Features
Then download and install the latest version.

If you have Logitech mouse drivers or other 3rdparty mouse/keybiard drivers installed, remove those as well.

Hello, as the title states, I am having issues with my two finger scrolling with my touchpad. My computer is a new alienware 15, and I am currently running windows 8.1. I do have two finger scrolling enabled, and it works, it just acts weirdly and I would like help understanding what is going on.
This first and primary issue, is that while scrolling up or down a page, I will randomly jump way down the page or way up the page. I am not able to reproduce this issue consistently, so I haven't been able to properly measure it, it just occurs randomly while browsing. I believe it always jumps down while scrolling down and vise versa, but I'm not sure. And I believe the distance of the jump is about equal to page up or page down, but that might just be wishful thinking. I have no idea what is causing this, I have completely disabled tapping, so it shouldn't be zone tapping for page up and page down, but I don't know what else it could be.
The next thing isn't really an issue, but more something I'd like to understand the significance of. When I start the two finger scrolling gesture, a little box appears (seemingly in a random location) and shrinks away almost instantly. It seems to have nothing to do with where my mouse is, nor where my fingers are on the trackpad, so I really don't understand what it's communicating to me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Issues with two finger scrolling on the alienware 15 synaptic touchpad running windows 8.1

I had the exact same problem, very annoying, I have Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, but the touchpad is Synaptics as well. So after a lot of searching on this issue, there was one possible solution: Remove the manufacturer driver, and install drivers from synaptics website.
If you cannot install the driver from synaptics website, (mine failed the first try), then you have to follow these steps:
1. After uninstalling the manufacturer synaptics driver, go to the lower right side of the screen, and click settings -- > power --> hold Shift key and press Restart.
2. A blue screen will appear with options. Choose Troubleshoot --> Advanced Options --> Startup Settings --> Click Restart.
3. After that, your computer restarts, shows u a numbered menu, choose number 7, which will turn off driver signatures.
4. When you are back in windows, download and install the driver from the synaptics website and install.

Hope it works, it worked for me.

I'm running a Dell XPS 15 Laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  My Synaptic Touchpad stopped working after I updated an academic research program called Papers.  I don't know if that program caused these problems or not, but I'm afraid of uninstalling it because I may lose a lot of data.  (Long story, it's an expired trial version, and to export the data I would have to pay a fair bit of money, which I'm trying to avoid.  Right now all I want is to be able to scroll again.)
Anyway, the pointer would just remain in the default place on the screen, and when I use the keyboard to navigate to the Mouse section of Control Panel it says it "Cannot Connect with Synaptics Pointing Device", etc.
So I uninstalled the Synaptics software, and restarted.  Now the touchpad works fine, but without any of the vertical or horizontal scrolling capabilities that the Synaptics software had.
So, here's the current situation: if I install the latest Synaptics touchpad driver from the Dell site, the touchpad doesn't work at all.  If I uninstall it, and reboot with just the PS/2 Mouse generic Windows driver, the touchpad works but without any scrolling options.
I updated the BIOS to A12 from A06, but it didn't fix the problem.
Thank you so much for any help and suggestions!  Let me know if you need any more info.

Answer:Synaptic Touchpad stopped working, but will run with the generic windows driver. No scrolling.

Anybody here want to take a stab at it?  Or direct me elsewhere?  Much appreciated.

Issue 1 - Developers: the default sensitivity setting for the palm check threshold is too high.  When I first got this machine I seriously thought there was something wrong with the touchpad.  I had to press way harder than seemed normal on the touchpad to get the mouse to move around on my screen.  After exploring the touchpad settings I reduced the threshold by two clicks and now all is well. Issue 2 - No horizontal scrolling.  I cannot get the touchpad to two finger horizontal scroll nor can I get it to one finger scroll (even after enabling one finger edge zone scrolling).  It won't horzontal scroll on any document types or websites.  Very frustrating.  Is it possible there is something wrong with the touchpad afterall given issue #1 above? Note: the trackpoint button does scroll vertically when using the middle mouse pad button but will not however scroll horizontally. Thanks

The previous driver allowed for edge scrolling but latest version does not have the capability.I understand for those upgrading to Windows 8 with touch screen capability this is not an issue but what about us who do not have touch screen. In my opinion this is a major flaw. Please let me hear form you if you too are unhappy about the new Windows 8 Touch pad driver. By the way, I tried rolling the driver back but the previous driver causes serious erratic behavior. Below is a screen shot of the version for the newest Windows 8 Touch Pad driver.

This problem appears on Windows 8.1

Answer:[Dell touchpad] one finger scrolling feature missing on Windows 8 doesn't work

Try this:
1) Go into c:\program files\DellTPad\
2) In this dir I have
  a)  DellTouchpad.exe: this is the app called from control panel whose picture you posted.
  b)  DellTPad.exe alternate utility to set touchpad setting. When launching this I have this option (translating into english) "one finger actions/multi-finger actions", and then it allows you to set single finger vertical/horizontal scrolling.

Just got a brand new laptop, Dell Inspiron 11 3137, and updated to windows 8.1. The touchpad does not work properly now; gestures/scrolling/pointer not working. I've spent over 16 hours getting windows 8.1 installed and then troubleshooting this issue. I've contacted Dell; updated the driver from Dell, even tried installing the latest driver from Synaptic. I even tried setting the Synaptic app to run under the windows 8 version.
Touchpads have been around a long time. It's the last thing I expect not to work properly.
At this point I am ready to send the laptop back and call it quits on windows.

SO, You're having problems with 8.1 and the Synaptics Dell Touchpad!? I wish I could say I've never seen this before. I won't open up with "Have you tried this?" Instead, I'm confident this will "fix what ails ya"  There have been a wealth of problems with touchpads (Alps included) and not just on Dell systems, during the transition from windows 8 to 8.1 (I still can't figure out why they didn't just call it SP1) IN ANY EVENT> give this a go and please get back to me after you've done it so I can share with others who are experiencing the same problem. I'll explain WHY these steps at the end...Go ahead peek ...I won't tell anyone!
Locate the current driver for your touchpad from  Dell Support by entering your service tag number here:
SAVE the download to somewhere convenient like your desktop (you can put it somewhere else later)
1) From the control panel under Programs / Uninstall a Program locate the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver and completely uninstall the software.  but DO NOT RESTART if prompted. Instead select the restart later option.
2) From the control panel under Hardware and Sound locate the Device Manager in the Devices and Printers category and click on it (device manager may require admin permission.)

Hi, as far as I'm concerned, Windows 10 allows Mac-like gestures, such as three-finger swipes for bringing up the task view etc. Where can I set this up? The currently installed synapics touchpad settings do not allow Windows 10 specific settings. Thanks for any help. Best,Ben

What I've figured out so far is that the driver of the touchpad must somehow register the touchpad as a "precision touchpad" ro work with Windows 10. However, I cannot find any driver updates for the touchpad to work with windows 10. No one has an idea? The gestures are key to Windows 10.

My 7840's touch pad "One Finger Scrolling" functionality has become inconsistent.  It had been working fine by using the 'DellTPad.exe' application and selecting (if memory serves) 'one finger gestures'.  That option is now gone however one finger scrolling still works for awhile, and then fails and the only option to scroll using two fingers. A reboot fixes it for awhile then it starts all over again.  This problem coincided with a recent round of updates, though the touch-pad driver was not one of those updates.
Any ideas out there?

We just received a batch of E5470's but we are unable to encrypt them with Bitlocker.  We will be installing Win7 64bit.  The BIOS is at 1.12.6.  We will PXE boot and image these from a MDT.
In the BIOS, we select:
Boot sequence - UEFI (uncheck onboard NIC ipv4 and 6)
Advanced boot options - Select "enable legacy option ROMS" and "enable attempt legacy boot"
Integrated NIC - Check "enable UEFI network stack" and "enabled with PXE"
SATA Operation - AHCI
Security TPM 2.0 - "TPM On"  "SHA-256"  "Attestation Enable" "Key Storage Enable" and of course "Enabled"
Secure boot enable - "disabled"
MBAM gets loaded during the image.  When we login and attempt to enable bitlocker, it fails to encrypt every single time.

At the first login after the image, the TPM does show in device manager as "Broadcom USH" with an exclamation point.  After running Windows Updates and rebooting, it'll show as "Trusted Platform Module 2.0".

Does TPM need to be at 1.2 instead of 2.0?
Could someone please post the exact steps in order to get this enabled?

I'm trying to find out if there is a way I can enable the ability to both scroll and middle click on the Twist. On my T420 I have "scrolling smooth" enabled under trackpoint properties (this setting doesn't exist on the Twist). When this is enabled a quick click of the middle button will open a link in a new tab, but pressing the middle button and moving the trackpoint allows me to scroll as expected. On the Twist, pressing the middle button only seems to bring up the scrolling prompt, and there seems to be no way to click.

You have installed latest Synaptic touchpad driver from website and you are still facing an issue in page scrolling, then you can try changing the settings of the One/ Two Finger Scrolling feature (located under Mouse Properties). Try below steps to resolve the issue:1. In Mouse Properties window as seen below, choose Device Settings.2. Under Device Settings, select Settings.3. You can customize the scrolling behavior of your mouse by checking the relevant boxes under Scrolling.4. You can opt to enable vertical and/or horizontal scrolling according to your preference.5. Click on OK to apply the changes.

Thank you

Can you also tell us what notebook and OS you have? This would be useful to write useful advices how to solve your problem.

Normally you can enable/disable the virtual scrolling function in Mouse settings. Therefore go in control panel > Mouse. Check the properties there and then you can enable/disable this function.

My touchpad has lost its scrolling functions since I upgraded to Windows 10, a year ago, and nothing I try can fix that.    I understand Windows comes with built-in drivers for mouse and touchpad, with the basic functions for the cursor. But that Synaptics drivers, with other functions like scrolling, are quickly downloaded and installed.   Well, in my case, it seems that these Synaptics drivers never take over, never get to actually control the touchpad: they seem correctly installed and activated, and I do check the scrolling functions all right; but the touchpad continues to behave as if it were still driven by the basic built-in drivers in Windows.   In fact sometimes I uninstall and totally delete the Synaptics drivers and make do with the basic Windows software; until the next automatic downloading of the useless Synaptics.   Thanks for any help.

My e5540 came with Win 8.1 Pro and I did a hardware clone to a Crucial MX100 512GB SSD.  I noticed that AHCI was not enabled, so I attempted to enable it.  Windows would not boot with AHCI enabled, but would boot fine when I reverted to RAID in BIOS.
I tried the various tips about registry hacks to no avail.  Eventually I tried to install a fresh Win 7 Pro with AHCI enabled and using UEFI and a GPT partition.  I first disabled Secure Boot and enabled Legacy Option Roms.  Windows seemed to install successfully, but when I shut it down to test a restart, it again found no bootable disk.  I ran across a thread that said Windows 7 could not install a boot loader in GPT.
So with AHCI still enabled, I enabled Legacy boot option in BIOS, booted from the regular DVD (not the UEFI DVD).  Using DISKPART, I ran CLEAN and attempted to install in an MBR partition.  Windows Setup showed a warning that it could not install to the disk because the hardware looked like it couldn't boot from the disk.  I tried to continue and Setup threw an error about being unable to create a System partition.
So I rebooted, went into BIOS and disabled AHCI and selected RAID under SATA options.  I started Windows Setup again and was able to delete the existing partition and let Windows recreated two new ones (one a reserved partition and one primary one).  I went ahead and loaded the Dell AHCI F6 drivers at this point, thinking I would be ab... Update: I double checked the Dell website for BIOS updates for my e5540.  I found an A07 BIOS that was a few revs newer than the A04 it was shipped with.   I hassled with creating a bootable USB thumb drive and copied the BIOS exe to it (just Google 'Rufus' for how to do this).  I was able to reboot the e5540 and select the USB via F12 during reboot, and navigate to the BIOS .exe and install it.
After installing the updated BIOS I was able to do a couple things:
1) I was able to install Windows 7 via legacy mode.  Previously, Windows couldn't create a System Partition in this mode.  After the BIOS update, Windows successfully installed.
2) I was able to install Windows 7 via UEFI mode.  Previously, after creating the GPT partition and installing, Windows 7 could not find a bootable device upon reboot.
I left the new machine in UEFI mode with a GPT partition.  I guess I should have bothered to check for a BIOS update, but honestly - I have had probably 20 computers and rarely had to perform a BIOS update.  This machine was produced less than 8 weeks ago.  The BIOS went from A04 to A07 in that time.  I appreciate the folks who addressed whatever the underlying issues were between A04 and A07, but I am not happy that I wasted a day and a half trying to figure out what the issue was.
I hope my time will save somebody else's time.

To eneble scrolling in vmware guest mechines we can install TwoFingerScroll application for windows pc from the below link

It will enable the scrolling with touchpad in VMware.First download the zip file and extract it.Then run the TwoFingerScroll.exe once, then check the right corner of the taskbar,if it does not appears there then check the hidden icons there. Now double click that icon and change the settings as you want. You may turn off the scrolling feature of your default touch pad application.
According to my tests to get most out of it we should turn off the acceleration, set the speed to its full limit, and set the scroll mode to compatible.

If any of you have had trouble with your laptop's scrolling touchpad you can now get a suitable driver from the good guys at Dell , it doesn't matter whether you are using a Dell machine at all , I'm using this driver on a Fujitsu Siemens v2010 , albeit an updated one with a Pentium M 1.5ghz , 1GB ram and an 80GB 8mb cache hard drive , and it works excellently , I think this should work for the Synaptics pad as well as the almost standard Alps Glide Pad . click here for the driver . I just bought this laptop and I can't seem to enable touchpad scrolling? The touchpad itself is working, but there's no way to scroll. Everything I've found online says it was a problem with Windows 10, and you have to enable that setting under Mouse Properties in the ELAN tab, but when I go there, there's no device listed. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

I've got a Dell D630 and when I had XP, I downloaded the Dell Touchpad Driver to gain touchpad scrolling functionality. Now that I've upgraded to Windows 7, the driver page opens as usual, but I can no longer select the "Touchpad Settings" or "Scrolling Settings" options ("External Mouse" and "Device Select" open just fine). Is there another driver out there I should be using? Thanks!

Answer:Solved: Touchpad scrolling?

There isn't a Windows 7 driver on Dells site but you can try the Vista driver.......look under Input Devices Drivers in the link below

I have an OmniBook XE3 using XP pro, and am having problems with the touchpad automatically scrolling up and down when my cursor is not on the scrolling bar. This tends to happen quite frequently after I have carried out some scrolling, then released the click button and moved my cursor into the body of the text/page. It is quite irritating and I would welcome any advice on how I might stop this happening.

Answer:Touchpad scrolling problems

Not exactly surewhat is happening but you need to look at the touchpad utility which would be preloaded onto the system. With this you alter the behaviour of the touchpad e.g. speed of scrolling, double click speed etc. It`ll be in the start>programs list perhaps called "synaptics". Usually the right hand side of the touchpad area can be used to scroll up and down and the bottom left and right. If it`s a small pad this can be irritating.Similarly the touchpad may "lock" the scoll feature when you click the left button which is useful if you hae a long document but again irritating if you don`t!Havea readon thehelp file associated with your device. I`msure you can disable some of these features.

I can't seem to enable the horizontal scrolling in the Synaptics TouchPad V7.2.  There are only checkboxes for vertical scrolling and ChiraMotion, but no horizontal scrolling. Also, is there a way to change the vertical scrolling's sensitivity?

Purchased a HP ze4930us notebook last week. Have been having minor problems with the scrolling option on the touchpad, the thing on the right side of the touchpad that lets you easily scroll up and down web pages and other things. Sometimes it doesn't work.

Under one scenario, I will have to click on the webpage somewhere to get it to work. But the webpage is already selected even before I do this, because I am able to scroll the manual way, using the up and down arrows, or the page up and page down arrows. Why do I have to click somewhere on the webpage when it is already selected?

Under another scenario, the scrolling option won't even work even when I do click somewhere on the webpage. I am able to do everything else though, like scroll by using the arrows or page up and down arrows. The only way I can get the touchpad scrolling to work on the page is to either minimize the page I want to use the scrolling, and then maximize it again, or open, or make another window prominent, window, and then go back to the window that I want to do the scrolling. This works as well.

Usually, though, I do not have any problems with the scrolling on the touchpad.

Answer:problems with scrolling when using touchpad

I have a new ZV5000 and the scroll, while not as bad as you describe IS less sensitive than the one on my older ZT1170.

I'm not sure if it is because of the ridges on the new one or not? There are some adjustments under the Control Panel/Mouse screens that may help you?

Under "Tapping" I set the touch sensitivity to HIGH and that has helped me.

Other things I have noticed is that if there is a Window WITHIN a window, such as on the Forum's POST section, the scrolling function is specific to where the cursor is positioned....NOT the Pointer.

The same is true for Websites that use "Frames".

But the thing that STILL drives me nuts is the autoscrolling at the top and bottom of the scroll line on the touchpad!!! I always hit the spot and scroll PAST where I want to be. I have been training myself to lift my finger off the pad at the end of a scroll stroke.

I recently bought hpaf006ax laptop.I am unable scroll using touchpad. I searched control panel and clicked on additional mouse settings there I cannot find clickpad tab to adjust it's settings but I am able to scroll by connecting a mouse.

Answer:scrolling problem using touchpad

Hello Vinay, You say you have been into the Control Panel and cannot find any settings for the Touchpad? It will be called Synaptics ClickPad at the bottom of Hardware and Sound in the Control Panel. In there, you might have Scrolling turned off. IF so, tick the box for it and Apply. If you cannot find the Synaptics ClickPad settings listed in the Control Panel, reinstall the driver for it. Here is the link... Let me know how it runs out.

I've installed Windows 10 on two different HP Pavilion laptops (dv5, g6), and the problem is that the scrolling function turns off automatically (will be unchecked) after every reboot. Tried with different versions of Synaptic driver, the newest and an older one, it's all the same.

Answer:Touchpad scrolling issues

I have the HP G72 series and I'm having the same exact issue. As soon as I upgraded from Windows 7, my scrolling ability seemed to completely deactivate. I've attempted to look through the mouse & touchpad settings, but it states that my "Control panel Extension is Incompatible with Driver Version" of my Synaptics Pointing Device application..
