Brand new Lenovo Yoga 710-15IKB Black screen

Question: Brand new Lenovo Yoga 710-15IKB Black screen

Hello, last thursday I got my brand new Lenovo laptop Yoga 710-15IKB. Everything went smoothly with the setup and the computer looked great was working fine. When I finished setting up some essential programs browser etc, and was watching a youtube video my laptop just froze, fan was running but the screen keyboard cursor frozen. I thought nothing of it and restarted my computer and nothing happened after that. So I thought I was free to enjoy my good looking device. But now after my third usage I closed my laptop and went out to run some errands I came back an hour later or so and tried to open my computer and keep on using it but to my surprise the screen stayed black. Completely black, no flickering or anything. So i tried to reboot it by holding the start button down for 10s giving the computer a minute or so to rest then turned it back on. Same thing happens Keyboard lights up for a second or two then the fans just keep running and the screen stays completely black. This is extremely frustrating since this is a brand new computer and I desperately need it for studying and work. Screen black, computer starts and runs I can hear the fans keyboard lights up at first but screen is completely black. I would appreciate a quick response Lenovo, I had so high hopes for my new laptop. Best regards, Elisabet.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello guys, I have a big problem. Yesterday, my notebook started a bios update while starting. Unfortunately, the PC shutdown during the update process and now, everytime I start the pc, there is only a black screen and the fan spins heavy. Has anybody an idea how I can recover the CMOS/Bios? Taking out the CMOS-Battery and the Accu didn't work.  Thanks for your help, Olli

I received a brand new Yoga 11s today.  (I already have a Yoga 13).  While going through the initial set-up procedure, the screen went blank.  If I hold the Yoga at an angle, I can see the screen is on, but just barely.  As near as I can tell, brightness is set to the max.  (I tried the function keys and swiping to access setup through Windows.  I can just make out the brightness slider and it appears maxed.)  Is it just a bad unit or is there some troubleshooting action I can take? Thanks.

I just got the brand new unit today and it has been charging for four hours now. Still, the screen is only showing nothing. The keyboards are lit and can be adjusted. I read in one of the posts that this may be a connection problem between the motherboard and the LCD screen. Can someone please point out how this connection issue could be fixed? Should I open the back part of the laptop? I am afraid that it will be very difficult and costly for me to make a return. Also, is it possible to make a replacement in case the problem is not fixed? Another thing to note also is that I am from the philippines and the unit was shipped from the US.

Answer:Black Screen on Brand New Lenovo Y50-70 Model no. 59445895

Hi Jesa ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Just to confirm , caps lock / numlock would turn on and off with the LED when pressed.
Power button shows solid white and battery indicators shows that it's charging.
How about connecting it to a desktop monitor , would it show the display ?

Would it show anything if you try to access the BIOS by turning off , and using the Novo key to turn on?
It suppose to show a Novo menu (page 3 number 8) separate from Windows to isolate drivers issue against LCD issue and cable.
As much as possible , do not open the chassis for now and check on its covered warranty here.
Click here for nearest country for possible International Warranty for your pc.

Update us how it goes.

Hi, I just bought this laptop 2 days ago, and i really am impressed with how it performs. The only problem i've incountered earlier this morning is that some of the keys in the keyboard didn't work (the P,Z,C keys). I left it on sleep the night before.  After i restarted and remove my mouse from the laptop, it suddenly works again. My question is, is this showing some sign of malfunctioning keyboard? I don't want to always have to restart my laptop and doing all the steps above. Any advice?

Hi there,  My very new Lenovo Yoga 710 (15" IKB) laptop/two-in-one has been fantastic so far except in one regard. Whenever I play a game, the fan gets quite loud and the temperature shoots up. I'm not one hundred percent sure if this happened in the first few days but I have come to notice it far more recently. When playing a pretty standard game, such as World of Warcraft, the temp will shoot up to somewhere around 65 degrees celsius (sometimes up to 70) with the bottom getting quite hot, and the fans will become quite loud. Even a very low requirement game, like FIFA 15 (which is obviously 2 years old now), can cause the temp to reach about 60 degrees and the fans to get loud, and when downloading a driver from Nvidia I noticed that the temperature had again risen, this time to 52 degrees with the fans spinning loudly again. I had earlier had a display issue that I fixed by downloading display drivers from Lenovo's website. I'm not sure if there's any driver I could download to rectify this issue (I already updated BIOS from the download on Lenovo's website)?

I am working on a class project that involves an industry partner.  Part of our task is to design a case for the Lenovo Yoga 720-15IKB, but it is very hard to do so without both a physical copy of the computer or a CAD drawing.  Is there anyway to get a CAD model to build the case off of?  If so who should I contact/what is the procedure for acquiring it.

Currently I'm playing music on Google Play music which plays fine until I'm about to click on another page or go to the home of google play for example and it stutters for a few seconds. Also not sure if this is related, when I use my bluetooth speaker, audio stutters really bad, worse than when using internal speakers. Possibly two different problems but for now I really only care about the internal speakers stuttering as I rarely use my bluetooth speakers on my pc. Any hardware can be specified.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 3 black screen

Hello DennyLarsonThanks for using the Lenovo forums.Sounds like something may have potentially got fried perhaps.

Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)1. Turn the unit off2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter5. Turn the unit on as normal
If these steps do not work I would recommend, that you call your local Lenovo support line for a possible service. Below is the link to the phone list where you can find these numbers

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

Hi guys, My name is Lim. I have upgraded my Yoga 3 to Windows 10 months back. Now with the recent update of Windows 10 (so called Service Pack) I have been encountering a black screen everytime I boot into the Lock Screen but everything is running. I would have to close my lid and open it again to be able to see the lock screen image and the sign in screen. If I restart after successfully login in, then the black screen does not appearing anymore. But if I shutdown the Yoga for a few hours or more then the black screen reappears. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Is it a driver conflict issue? I'm unsure as I have reinstalled some of the drivers especially the Intel HD driver but this still happens. Thanks in advanced.Lim.

Whenever i lean my Yoga 920 at the center (so all the pressure is focused at top-center), instead of the gums at the four corners, my computer screen blacks out until I remove the pressure. It's a really uncommon way to lean the computer, but I was asking myself if this is a worrying problem. Perhaps, by repeatedly pressuring that point when I might keep the laptop on my laps or when I carry it in a bag it could worsen that problem even more.

As it says in the subject: my laptop screen keeps going dark for a second or two while in use (and plugged in). It's not going to sleep or shutting down; any music playing doesn't cut out, and when the black screen goes away I'm still logged in and my programs are all up and running as they were before the flicker. Last night while running on battery, it shut down on 18% power and wouldn't switch back on for almost an hour, even while plugged in. I don't know if that was the start of the problem; the black flicker started happening today. I think it's happened three or four times today. I only bought the computer three months ago and it's definitely not experienced any knocking around or anything.  Can anyone tell me what's wrong and how to fix it?

Hi Farazd5292 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

How was the display connecting it on the external monitor?
Is the display dim even on the BIOS screen?

Dim screen in BIOS with external monitor ok isolates the issue to the LCD panel lightning.
Call in technical support for hardware issue specially if the display goes out along with the Power LED.

Hope this help answer your query.

Hello all, I have a Yoga 900-13isk that is having screen issues.  The laptop will turn on and the backlight is on.  However, the display will only work if apply pressure on the top of the screen gently.  Does this mean I need a new display?  It would be nice if there was an easier solution than having to spend $350.  I am able to log into my computer and do anything I want, I just have to push down on the top of the screen.

Hello everyone,Recently, I got a Lenovo yoga 14(with Nvidia Geforce 940m and intel(R) HD Graphics 5500) on windows 10. I have one problem with it which is the screen flickers on and off if I have software such as store, bing news, google chrome and microsoft word open on maximised screen. I've tried turning down the resolution, turning of panel self-refresh and updating the video drivers, but it didn't work. Also I've noticed that when the screen is flickering the mouse moves back to the centre of the screen. Instead of pushing the maximised button, if I drag the borders of the software window and make it full screen, it doesn't flicker at all. Some advice would be much appreaciated, Roger

My lenovo Yoga 2 went into the black screen of death (cursor moving and visible but not able to do anything) about ten seconds after I got a warning saying my memory was low. I tried rebooting it to Safety Mode by holding down the power button until it turned off, then powering up while holding Shift+F8. It showed the lenovo logo, but then went back to black, and when I tried it a second time nothing happened. I don't have the ability to take the battery out, so I've now unplugged it and have devices hooked up to the USBs and charging to drain the battery--I've read that's one way to do it. How do I fix this??

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro black and flickering screen

That periodical 5 - 30 seconds black flickering screen has tormented me on my Y2P ever since I upgraded to Windows 10. Just today in a Yoga 2 Pro tips discussion I read that the solution may be to disable Panel Self-Refresh in the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel (Power -> On Battery). Too soon for me to tell if it works but I have my fingers crossed.

Hello all, Whenever my fingers are on the keyboard, touchpad, screen, or surface of the keyboard, the screen blacks out completely. Every time light pressure is added, even a gentle tap, the screen blacks out. Music continues to play on the laptop even when the screen is black, and if I'm typing, all of the text that I entered while the screen is black remains. Occasionally, by applying pressure to either the bottom left or right corners of the keyboard surface, the screen remains. But even so, slight changes to my hand positions are enough to make the screen black out again.I recently sent in my laptop to Lenovo repair services due to a wifi connection-related problem, but I don't think this could be connected in any way. If anyone has experienced this before or is aware of how to fix the problem, it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Hi, Lenovo Support,

My Lenovo Yoga 13 was bought in May this year.

The screen stays black untill I plug in the power adapter.

If on batery only, even counting with up to 90% of power, the screen stays black (important to note that the power button is lightened up, I can also hear some parts of the machine working).

The only way to use the computer is pluging in the power adapter, once I plug it in the screen turn on instantanealy. Otherwise it keeps black.

I've reset the computer pressing the power button for 20 min and the problems is still happening.

It is urgent. It is my only computer.

What do I do?

Answer:Lenovo Yoga - Black screen when on battery

Dear rparreiras,

Welcome to Lenovo Community,

The Problem happens because in the power plan the brightness is at 0% on battery, and in the Yoga 13 with the brightness is at 0%, the screen goes OFF.

So you need to press on (Windows Button + X) and choose (Power Options) and go to each plan that you have and click on (Change Plan Settings) and make the brightness to 100 % in both battery and plugged in then save changes.

Please try this solution and if the problem still exists, just let me know.

Hi, I am join the Lenovo forums to seek assitance with an issue with my Thinkpad Yoga 14. I recently purchased the notenook from Best Buy and it has been great.  But there's an intermitten issue with the screen going black. My theory was that the ambient light sensor is what tells the laptop it's closed, and it was getting obscured, causing my screen to turn off. This issue occurs when I am using it in tablet mode and during the process of the folding the screen back. The screen is fine in laptop mode, unless I adjust the angle of the screen.  So it seems every time I place my hand on the screen to draw, or fold the hinge, the screen will turn black. I have taken the following steps:-Updated Windows and all my Lenovo Apps.-Changing power options to 'Do Nothing' when lid closes.  Does anyone else have this issue? I am hoping this is not a hardware issue   Thanks everyone.

YOGA 900-13ISK2 SEPN: 80UEBIOS: 2UCN6WW16 GB RAM / I7-6560 / WIN 10 x64 Home    I got my new Yoga 900 few weeks ago and ever since it's been randomly freezing. The laptop is with this problem from day one and without any additional software installed. There's no error message or anything, it just freeze or flickering and than freezes completely without a BSOD and the only way to use it again is to shut it off and turn it back on. The freeze looks strange: black screen, any sounds playing would either stop or repeat indefinitely and the fan noise high. The LED backlight is on, but completely black display. I had to shut down my computer by pressing the power key and then restarting again. There is no clear error massage in Event log: ?Audit events have been dropped by the transport. 0? and ?Unexpected shutdown?. For some reason, it's much more frequent on battery power and almost non-existant on AC power and High Performance Power Options. So I recently came to South Korea to teach and my computer was working fine. i have two lenovo yoga series computer, one being the 2 and one being the 3 pro. The 3 pro I literally have used maybe 12 times. I bought it a while back but it was not convenient for the size at that time so I kept using my smaller once. So it is pretty much brand new. It booted up, it was charged, I was able to log on, then suddenly it went black and I have not been able to get a screen since then. I've never dropped it, I've barely put anything on it, it was working fine two days beforehand, then boom, nothing. I can't hear the fan going on it either, but then again, I never really noticed a fan noise in the beginning, either. I let it die on its own hoping maybe that would work.I charged it fully as well.I tried the 'press the power button so-and-so times for this' to try to hard-restart or something of the like.I know I have power because the light comes on, and I am able to make the lighting behind the keyboard come on and off. The screen is the only problem at this point. Since I just moved to Korea, I am obviously not fluent. I had my coteacher call Lenovo Korea for me and they said my computer wasn't covered under Korean Warranty, but from what I read it is. It doesn't end until January of 2017 either. So I'm at a loss. I can't speak fluent Korean so I can't call myself, and I can't put in for a callback. I may have my parents call the USA number, but then I'd have to ship... Read more

Hello Kitsumiya,I guess I also had this problem on my lenovo yoga 3-1470 before, but I am not so sure about it. There was once when I power on my lenovo yoga 3-1470, it went black screen, and I thought my lenovo yoga 3-1470 screen has spoilt. I tried restarting the system over and over by pressing the power on button. But when I put the screen under the light, I could see a very faint message box, asking me to restart. My lenovo yoga 3-1470 was touch-screen, hence I touch restart, and the screen came back normal again. This is not the solution to your problem, but I am just enquring on whether are you facing the same problem as me. If it persists, I guess you would have to send it for fixing, or look around for other solutions.  Regards, Federick

Hi guys, My first message here and unfortunately, it's not for the coolest reason.I have a Yoga 500-14 IHW that works perfectly well when plugged, but I noticed a few days ago that as soon as I unplugged it from the USB type power port, the screen suddenly turns black. I thought it was a question of brightness, drivers, windows power plan, etc. I have also tried all the solutions here (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/page/6/thread-id/28087), without success once again. One thing that I noticed and that bothers me a lot is the fact that once it is unplugged, if I try to power on the laptop, the screen is black and no Lenovo spash screen appears. The computer is working, the lights are on, I can hear the fans of the graphics card, but no screen. And of course, as soon as I plug in the power cable, the screen lights up and I'm in front of the Windows login page. If I want to access the BIOS, I can only do so once it is plugged. If I want to start from a live cd, I can only do it once plugged. All of this leads me to think that my laptop screen is broken and no longer works when it is unplugged. Is it a battery problem? The battery is at 100% right now, but is there perhaps a more specific test to be done on the battery?I'm waiting for good ideas to check what else is going on. Otherwise, do you confirm that I will have to return the computer in warranty?Thank you very much,Jed13

Hi everyone. I have tried searching here and on Google for a solution and can?t find anything for Yoga 710-15IKB owners. The only relevant thread I could find was from this user who is describing essentially the same questions, but nobody came up with a solution. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-710-Touchpad-Settings-Area-settings/t... I am trying to activate two touchpad features on my new Yoga 710-15IKB. Two finger scrolling. Two finger right-click tap.Increase speed of touchpad. (The mouse curser is painfully slow, even on the hightest pointer speed setting). However, I can?t seem to find any place to change these settings?I have tried the following: Navigating the touchpad settings via taskbar, looking at each tab (including the ELAN tab). There is no place to make touchpad gesture changes.Going into Windows 10 control panel settings for the touchpad. The only adjustment I can make is ?touchpad sensitivity?.Updating the ELAN driver in Windows 10 via ELAN tab > properties. This does nothing.Downloading and installing various ELAN/Synaptics touchpad drivers from Lenovo.com, none of them activating any ?gesture? settings that I can find. This one specifically did not even work? http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds118370 My questions: Does the Yoga 710-15IKB even support touchpad gestures? Are there any owners with this model who have success with activating gestures? Thanks for your... Ended up taking the laptop back to Best Buy. The Geek Squad rep and I compared the model on the shelf. While the driver information matched, my model did not recognize the trackpad as being standalone (it was acting as a mouse in a PS/2 port). We concluded my computer had a faulty trackpad and got an exchange. All is well!

After i upgraded to BIOS 2XCN30WW(V2.05) dated 2017/06/21 i started to experience lags and temporary freezes (for 20/30 seconds and it would recover) while using windows 10 creators edition. The lag/freeze can be described as a period of time every 10 minutes or so in which the computer stops responding to keyboard input and eventually to mouse movements, if you had a youtube video or audio playing in the background it starts coming out distorted, everything makes you think there is something hogging the CPU or RAM, it recovers itself after 20 or 30 seconds, sometimes less than that.I first blamed Slack Client but quickly found that it didn't have anything to do. It didn't seem related to load as the CPU/RAM usage in Task Manager remained low during these periods.I then blamed a recent Windows Update patch , which i rolled back prompty without noticing any changes. My last option and what ultimately resolved the issue is the rolling back the BIOS upgrade that i applied at about the same time of the windows patch.I enabled the Allow Back-Flash option in BIOS setup and rolled back to version 2XCN29WW, and the problem dissapeared for good, and just to confirm that the BIOS was to blame after a few days of happy computing i decided to give the new BIOS another try and TADAH! soon after the update the freeze/lags started again.I just wanted to share this with you guys in hopes that if you are having similar issues you can resolve them using this message. And since Lenovo doesn't seem... My Yoga had a black line appearing on the screen and it was replaced by Lenovo. Now the same problem has appeared again. The line is thick and black appearing 3/4 into the width of the screen. Occassionally it is strippy white. On some occassions a little tap can make it go away (but not much anymore) and rarely after the laptop has been on for some time the line will dissapear. Any help would be appreciated. Is this likely the screen, the power unit or what?

I purchased the Yoga 13 about a month ago, and today I tried turning it on but the screen turns black. However, I can still see the mouse and move it around, there's just nothing else I can do. I have tried F12, but the screen is on maximum brightness. I can turn it off and on through F9. Both the power and battery light are blinking, even when the laptop isn't plugged into AC. When I tried doing a forced shut down the power light blinks on and off, and I'm pretty sure the laptop just goes into sleep mode or something because when I press the power button again it goes straight to the black screen with the mouse.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 13 black screen but can move mouse

it sounds like it's software issue. have you tried to run your computer by pressing one key recover button to check if you can see anything else maybe to install the operation system again?

I just purchased my laptop about a month ago and when in normal use starting from log in the screen starts to flicker constantly and the screen would also black out here and there. When I boot it in safe mode everything runs fine and the screen doesn't flicker or black out so I'm guessing that it's a graphic driver issue and not a hardware?  I've updated everything in Windows 10.. the drivers are also all updated (Intel HD Graphic 620 and Nvidia Geforce 940MX). I've also tried uninstalling all the drivers and reinstalling them. I've disabled Problem Reports and Solution Control Panel Support & Windows Error Report Service from services in Task Manager. I've tried everything you can think of but can't find a solution!!! Any suggestions and help is much appreciated!!

Please help.  My daughter dropped her Lenovo yoga 3 and broke the screen.   I ordered a new screen from the internet but before the install I hooked it up to hdmi and everything else was working.  Now after the install I turn it on and I see the Lenovo logo pop up on the screen with the "windmill" busy circle under it from there it goes to a black screen after a minutes if you move the mouse you can see the mouse pointer moving around on the screen but it remains black.  Anyone have an idea?  I tried f8 and fn f8 at boot and ctrl/alt/del during black screen both did nothing.

Hello, Better press F9 or F10 to bring the display back.If you still don't get it back, maybe you could hook the Yoga to HDMI again, and see in the Device Manager what's going on. Maybe uninstall the Monitor and/or the Graphics card, and restart ?

I have been using a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro for just over a year. I use it at work with an external monitor which I connect via a micro-HDMI to VGA adapter. There are several times during the day that the screen on the external montior would flicker, and the connection would be lost. I would usually just reconnect the display and the external monitor would display again.  A few days ago (4 days after the warranty expired), while connected to the external display, the monitor on my Yoga went completely black. Now it won't come back on. Sometimes on startup I can see a very faint "Lenovo" logo, but that quickly goes away. I know the computer is still on because the windows logo still vibrates on the screen when touched. Anyway, does anybody know what could be causing this and how to fix it? I took it to my local Microsoft store and they said that I should replace the motherboard, but I got a feeling they didn't really know what was going on with it. I have not had any problems with this computer until now and it would be a shame if the motherboard is indeed the problem. I have really liked the computer but don't think I would buy another lenovo if I had to replace the motherboard. I have never dropped or significantly damaged it. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 2 screen went black while on external monitor and won't come back on

hi smalley3,

Welcome to the Forums.

The flickering issue maybe due to a bad LCD cable or in some cases, a faulty GPU (the GPU is integrated to the CPU, and the CPU is soldered to the motherboard).

If there's still no image on the screen even after connecting an external display then you likely have a bad GPU.

In this case, I recommend you contact support for service (and also to see if there's a consideration that can be done on the warranty repair).

But the machine ignores my setting:* Shut down the Screen after 1 hours when connected to power* Go into Standy after 4 hours when connected to powerThis setting is saved, but the machine goes into standby much quicker?! Hopefully someone can help here - Cheers Dennis P.S. IdeaPad Yoga 11S, Factory ID: JVHFC1, Part No: 59292852, Model: 20248, O/S: Windows 8.1 Whenever I plug in the poweradapter, the screen goes dark and will not come back until I unplug the power adapter. This happens anytime, whetherthe battery is fully charged or low. The power adapter charges the battery to full charge so the adapter appears towork. This problem started happening only in the last month. Have had this computer for 2 years. This prevents mefrom using the computer when the battery is low because plugging in the power adapter shuts down the display. Anyone know what is causing this problem?  Thanks in advance for any new info.

Hi The laptop was working perfectly until i updated the intel HD graphics driver to version 23.20.16.4849 (27/10/17).  As soon as I did this, the machine would not wake from either sleep or hibernate mode when the lid was shut. When I open the lid it will either enter staright into a black screen, and I can hear the fan spinning with lights to the right hand side but no further activity. Sometimes the Lenovo log appears on the screen first and then enters into a blank screen state. I am on Bios Lenovo C6CN34WW 29/10/15 As soon as I press and hold the power button to turn off, and then turn on again the machine loads into windows perfectly, with a visible display.  Any suggestions how to fix this? Thanks

On my brand new yoga 710, from time to time, the screen with start to do small shifts vertically.  Windows is up to date, went through and did intel specific driver scan, which came up with lenovo having a custom display driver set. Has anyone else experienced something similar to this.... this is my first touchscreen system I have ever dealt with, so I'm not sure how these custom drivers function.  It is about one pixel shift, which is not much, but enough to make me want to throw this thing out the window 4 days after buying.

Hi, MP87 ?

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

If you get the white screen during POST but the display is fine on an external display then the cause if most likely the LVDS cable. Try to reseat or change this part and observe.

Bought a Lenovo YOGA 700-15ISK two weeks ago. Setup went well. Then managed to install e.g. Steam as well yesterday and left the laptop on (connected to the power cord). When I this morning tried to revive it from (what I though to be) SLEEP mode, nothing happens: screen is black. I then press POWER button a long time, turning the computer off. After pressing the POWER button again, the POWER button lights up and the keyboard blinks red (as it should, I guess), but then nothing more: screen remains black. And no sound from fans, etc. Trying by pressing the NOVA button (that little hole on the left side of the laptop, using a pin) yields the same result. Both the power connection and power diods at the front are lit, and when shutting down laptop by pressing POWER button for a long time, the power connection diod is still lit (although it was unlit before). What is happening here, and what could be the problem?

Answer:Lenovo YOGA 700-15ISK - doesn't start (screen stays black)

EDIT: Also tried to connect to external screen through HDMI, black there as well (got another laptop working so the HDMI connection cable is all fine). Just seems dead, or at least doesn't really start after the first initialization.

Just a heads-up: I bought this Lenovo Yoga 13 Ideapad in 2013, so it's out of warranty. Proceed to read my problem..... I always get a black screen whenever I shut off my laptop and turn it back on again, which is why I lock my laptop instead. But when I DO lock it and get back on it the next morning, I encounter the Black screen of death and instead of my lockscreen immediately appearing like normal after I lock it and have left it overnight & try to get on it, I have to shut down my laptop and turn it back on because my laptop won't immedately take me to the lock screen so I can log into my computer.  Today (March 17, 2017), I had to shut down and turn on my laptop while pressing the rotation button button or the OneKey Recovery button (the button with a circle and a line going through it; I don't know exactly what it's called, but I think it's the recovery button OR the screen rotation button, on the right hand side of the computer: If anyone knows the name of this button, please let me know!)..I tried this 5 times and It wouldn't turn on. The 6th time pressing the Recovery button OR the screen rotation button on the right side of the laptop (whatever it's called), it did work and now I'm on my laptop typing like normal. But this Lenovo Yoga Ideapad 13 only works when it wants to. Is there any proven fix to this hardware issue? I was told that it was a motherboad issue, but what's the real culprit? And is the motherboard what's actually giving me th... Read more

As described in the title, I was using a live Ubuntu USB (I already have Ubuntu installed) to use GParted. Unfortunately, I unintentionally unplugged the USB. After a black screen for a couple of seconds, many SqushFS errors popped up and now I can't do anything. The power up/reboot/shut down button doesn't do anything and the only thing I can do is write.. commands? Help, please!  Hi all,First post!  My Dad's Lenovo laptop goes to a black screen when starting up, so is unusable.I haven't seen it in the flesh yet but have started to research things for him and have found that 'black screen' shows up quite a lot for Windows 10 and Lenovo PCs! We were so impressed with my Dad's PC I've ended up with the same model myself:Lenovo YOGA 500 Convertible Laptop, Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 15.6" Touch Screen. Also labelled as: Yoga 500-15IBD Laptop (ideapad)  I see some people mentioning hardware failures and others device driver problems with the graphic card etc. but haven't read a definite cause/fix for this so far. I've just found this recent critical BIOS update for this PC which mentions the black screen problem:Software name: BDCN63WW Version 63[Important updates] Fix Win 10 lid close black screen issue.http://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Yoga-Series/yoga-500-15ibd/downloads/D...I haven't seen this mentioned in the forums? Has anyone else used this?If the PC always boots to a black screen I'll obviously have trouble installing this! I'm hoping that it will boot in Safe Mode or I'm going to have some trouble installing it?! I don't know whether to install the BIOS update on my own machine which is running fine - I think I'll wait until I see my Dad's laptop first which will be in a few weeks. Has anyone had any experience of this BIOS update or other comments on this?Thanks. &nb... Answer:Yoga 500 'BLACK SCREEN' - BIOS update: "[Important updates] Fix Win 10 lid close black screen issue"

I'm still wondering about this... I've just updated the Lenovo Companion after seeing it mentioned in another thread. It looks like this s/w is supposed to scan the PC and recommend Lenovo updates - critical and nice to have ones. Initially the Companion was showing a critical update for Lenovo SHAREit and a recommended one for my BIOS. It says I'm currently on BDCN28WW and offered something like v61 and not the 63 I mentioned in my first post? After letting it update SHAREit and re-scanning the BIOS update is no longer being offered and still shows me on v28 ??? I'm not sure I trust this 'Companion' app!My laptop seems to be running fine so I don't want to break it updating the BIOS if it's not required. For all I know my Dad's broken one may be broken because it upgraded?! Does anyone else use/trust the Companion app?And has anyone else seen it change it's mind on recommended BIOS updates? Thanks.

Hi MS12,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Aside from allowing the battery to fully drain and go off on its own to have a fresh start since it is a new computer, it would be better calling in technical support at 800-426-7378 24 hours/day 7 days/week.

It would seem to have more of a Windows update issue here but do call them to best provide you immediate options to try.

Hope this help answer your query.

Hello, Community So my 4 day old laptop is having sleep/wake problems. If the screen sleeps because of the 10 minute timer I have it on, it CANNOT be woken up. The screen stays black, but everything else is "on." The Fn key is green and the LED on the ThinkPad logo is always on, not pulsing. Nothing I do will wake up the screen. I have to do a hard shutdown and then turn it back on. Once it's back on all apps/windows are closed and I need to restart everything manually. This problem also occurs if I put it to sleep by closing it, or by going to power>sleep and closing the laptop. Basically I keep having to hard shut down to get the screen to wake up.  Other than this problem, I love the laptop. So it sucks that it's having this issue.  Help..please.

I am a very frustrated and angry customer at the moment as i keep running into Road Block and unacceptable answers.  This issue is enough to cause me to never buy another Lenovo laptop or any laptop at Best Buy!I bought my computer in July and in September i noticed a key had popped off-  the "< ," key next to the M key.  I have used the key board only when i was setting up-  now at my office and at customers i set it in downward dog mode ;-) and use a blue tooth key board.    So it is not from use that it broke.   I took the laptop into BEST BUY and was told that the key was missing a metal part on the back so they could not fix it onsite-  i would have to send it in and be without my laptop for a week to 10 days - unacceptable -  this was a month or more ago. I searched on the LENOVO website and could not find a way to purchase a single or the entire set of Keys!  I am self employed as a software consultant.   My life is pretty busy and i finally decided today to bite the bullet and ask for a call from Lenovo support.  Again i am told the only way to fix this is to send my laptop in for a repair.  I asked to just be able to buy a KEY - i am told that well they do not sell individual keys - they would replace the entire keyboard!  So sell me the keyboard and or send me one an i will take into best buy to have them replace it while i wait.  They cannot do that.   I live... Just got my new Yoga 920, works great, except in one scenario. When I boot the laptop while the USB-C is connected to an extra monitor, the laptop screen doesn't show up,. Instead I see flickering login screen with no way to stop it. Unplugging the USB-C to HDMI adapter has no effect, I have to do a force shutdown and start the machine without the HDMI adapter. Any idea what's going on? Thanks.

Hi,Today I received a package containing my brand new laptop, the Ideapad 510-15IKB. Full of excitement, I unboxed it and turned it on, tried to proceed with installing windows 10. The first reboot came, but the laptop stayed off. I noticed, then, that the led which should have been lit orange, near where the AC adapter plugs in, wasn't on (although the laptop was plugged in). I checked the cable and it does transmit the AC, so the problem is probably with the laptop. Does anyone know if there is any possibility of it being fixable without opening the laptop up myself? I've already contacted the dealer and I'll send it back to them, but I just wanted to first check if there may be anything worth trying by myself. I read that for some older (I think?) laptops, you could perform some sort of reset by pressing the on/off button for 4 seconds, with the battery and the AC adapter out of the laptop, but with this model, the battery can't be taken out, so...Thanks in advance for any response and sorry if my "briefing" was a bit too long lol. Cheers!Alex

Hi everybody. I am brand new here. Last week I splurged on a ThinkPad X1 Yoga OLED. Today I fumbled it from literally 6 inches off my carpet and now the touch screen is utterly shattered. I can't believe it! The OLED display seems OK. I am kind of at a loss and would appreciate advice. It's factory refurbished with Lenovo warranty but I don't have any extra accident insurance or anything. I am in Boston USA. Thank you for any advice!

Just bought a Yoga 2 which worked perfectly after first boot up .I shut it down before going to bed last night and left it installing windows update, when I try to turn it on this morning it powers on, the screen flashes on briefly for a second, key board lights up and then nothing. It seems like the machine is turned on but no screen. Hard reset does nothing, attempts to recover with one recovery key have the same response as described. I had at least one sucessful restart yesterday after installing new software so I'm suspecting this could be an issue after windows update but I'm not sure since I've read of similar issues with the Yoga 13. Any help?

Answer:Brand new Yoga 2 screen not turning on at startup

Can you access the BIOS? Hold recovery key, and then release it and then go into the BIOS. Does that work ?

Answer:Shattered Screen on my brand new X1 Yoga! please advise

I wish I could say something more encouraging, but things are not good.  Without accidental damage protection, the warranty won't help.  The oled display is a single piece and that's what's broken.

Dear Lenovo Team Been fortunate enough to have exchanged my prior 2 Yoga Pros 3 for a new one via retailer. Everything has been running smoothly on the first day until I noticed some short white lines (cannot determine the length as it is only visible against dark backgrounds and flickers lightly for 2-3 seconds) on different parts of the screen. The laptop has been switched on for around 8 hours and used for browsing with no documents or apps opened. Whether it be connected to a power adaptor, running on battery only, in laptop or in tent mode, placed on different surfaces, this has occured 5 times already. This is my third Yoga Pro 3... I will not be able to (or would want to ask retailer to exchange it) but am hoping that I will not have to send it to a service centre - since it's brand new and a lot of time and energy has been spent on this product by all parties. Should I wait and see first after all the main updates have finished? Would appreciate any help and advice. Thanks

Answer:Brand New Yoga Pro 3: Screen flickering white lines

I would not wait, I would contact tech support. Make sure to tell them about the previous machines from the same retailer. I have no idea what would cause that many machines from the same retailer have the same problem, My Y3P went thru UPS and I have had Zero problems (other than a few update issues) with it.

Hi, Just received my lenovo u400 today and super excited, however, the screen doesn't seem to work! When I turned on for the first time, I hear it boots up but the screen is pitch black. I try using the hot key to adjust the brightness but still can't see anything. I could somewhat see it but very difficult. However, the laptop is working fine because I plugged into external monitor and I can see it. Is my laptop screen defected? Please advise. Thank you.

I'm using Asus VivoBook S400C with Windows 8.

After i start the laptop, It goes black after the ASUS logo.

I've tried use shift+F8 to go into recovery. (sometime the shift+F8 might not work, it went black after ASUS logo)

Using troubleshoot's system restore. After minutes of waiting, system restore completed successfully and so i restart. But it went black again.

I tried automatic repair, but nothing good came out.

Tried startup setting to enable safe mode. but unfortunately, it went black after I click the restart button.

Please help me, i'm desperate, been a week... :'(
I don't want to use refresh or reset option.

Thanks.

Answer:Black screen after brand's logo.

Is it Black but with a Mouse? Or just Black. It may be pending an Auto Repair, and you have to let that finish. Sometimes it takes a long time, it will stay in that black screen for 15 minutes in some cases. My Media system does this, particularly when the Drive has Errors, and until I can use the Install disk to run a Scandisk from Command Prompt, it never gets past that black screen.

The other Black screen with Mouse usually shows up after you see your Skydrive Login, instead of showing your Lockscreen, it goes black with a mouse. But even in that state, I was able to pull up Task Manager and run an In-Place install. Try a scandisk from either an Install DVD or a Hiren's Boot Disk, from MiniXP, see if you got Disk errors. Ive had numerous Errors with Windows 8, and it all comes back to the disk needing to be scanned.

Hi, I recently purchased an ideapad 320 15IKB 80XL. After setting up as per the recommended instructions by windows and updating windows, the built in speakers wont work. Head phone will work when plugged in to the audio jack. I have tried all the recommended procedures found on Lenovos help page (uninstalled the driver, disabled all enhancements and the realtek speakers as the default device)  , but none of them help.I also ran the hardware dianosis and the following result code was generated W1FDM3UZA-VJC3K6.
