I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, when I turn on or restart my laptop (Compaq 6730b, OS Win7 64 bit), it begins to start, but after a few seconds it  stucks on screen with HP logo and label "Press the ESC key for startup menu". After that begin to flash NumLock and CapsLock diods on laptop - maybe two or three times. But nothing happens, although I press ESC or any other key. Only I can do is to turn off laptop and try it again, sometimes many times on an on till OS starts properly. I have permanently plugged in many peripherals - external monitor, external keyborad, mouse, webcam, speakers and I have laptop permanently plugged in charger. Maybe this facts could be cause of the problem, i guess, because when I turn laptop itself without any peripherals, this problem didnt appear. I'll be very thankful for any advice to solve this unpleasant problem. Thanks a lot. Regards miiichal

Hello!

I have a Toshiba Portege Z930-D3S laptop. I wanted to run a system recovery and did everything exactly as in the manual http://forums.toshiba.com/tshb/attac.../1/Z930_EN.pdf page 4-24, Section System recovery Options. The tool told me that the recovery partition is empty (or something like this) and the recovery cannot be performed. I definitely did not erase it and do not how it can be. Then there was an option to erase sdd and I thought that this might help (don't ask me why) and that the tool would erase everything but the recovery partition. So, I chose it.

Now I have the frozen screen with "Toshiba Leading Innovation" and cannot enter any menu neither by pressing 0, nor by holding F8. I cannon restart the laptop, it seems that it simply fall asleep when I press the power button.

Please, help me to recover the system.

Dear supporters,

Model: Satellite L775D-10W
OS: Win7 64 bit
Problem: The booting procedure gest stuck after "Windows loads data" and a progress bar undertitled with "Microsoft Corporation", resulting in a black screen and a moveable mouse cursor.

The same problem occurs everytime...
pressing F8 >> all options (icluding safe mode) >> boot gets stuck
Booting from Win7 64-bit DVD >> boot gets stuck
Booting from Win7 64-bit DVD >> all options >> boot gets stuck

Is it likely that the graphic card is broken or that the corresponding driver is not fitting anymore?

Thank you for your time in advance!

Greetings

Mat

Answer:Satellite L775D-10W - Boot stucks: Black screen + mouse cursor visible

Graphic card problem might be possible but in such case the POST (power on self test) would not be passed and in my opinion it would not be possible to access the BIOS.

However, this is just a theory?
Try to boot the notebook using some Live CD like Linux

I would also recommend you to start the advanced boot menu. (pressing F8) and to choose Repair my Computer option.
Then choose ?Toshiba HDD recovery?

This option would recover the notebook back to factory settings.

Hi shaswat,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that the computer is not booting to Windows and getting stuck on a Black screen and also getting prompt to select the boot device each and every time at the startup.

Below are the steps to diagnose the issue and resolve it and also click here to view the BIOS simulation of G580 Laptop:

Turn ON the computer, before Lenovo LOGO is displayed on the screen. Keep tapping on ?F2? Key to enter BIOS menu.

Note: To check how the BIOS menu looks and to explore its options Click Here.

In the ?Information? Tab check if the HDD (Hard Disk Drive) is listed in the Tab or is it displaying ?No Device Detected?.
If the HDD is listed in ?Information? Tab, I suggest you to reset the BIOS to its defaults by clicking on ?F9? Key and select YES.
Then Click on ?F10? Key to safe the changes that are done in BIOS, restart the computer and check if the issue is resolved.

NOTE: Please backup the data in the computer before performing OSRI, as the data will be completely erased.

Answer:g580 Laptop will not boot up!

hi KellyA,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

If you press the button and lights comes up but there's no display or the LCD flashes for a while then cuts off then you're encountering a No POST / No Display issue. These certain scenarios are commonly caused by a hardware fault (most of the time, a bad GPU chip on the motheroard) and you need to contact lenovo for service.

If you live in the U.K., you can reach a support personel on this number:

I bought a Lenovo g580 model 2689 laptop back in august, and it has now stopped working. Whenever I try to switch it on, lights come on, it makes booting noises, the fan works, but nothing happens, just a black screen. I know the monitor works because it has turned on once since I've had this problem. Please help, I have a presentation next week and can't access my work!

Apologies in advance if this topic has already been discussed.Background. My son uses the above laptop. Over the last few days he tells me his computer has stopped working and required rebooting on a number of occasions whilst gaming ( minecraft I believe). It has reported an error around zero tolerance and the ram, or words to that effect.Today he had an update for his windows 8 os. Completed, reboot as per instructions. On reboot, windows not playing. Bios can be accessed via F2. Safe mode cannot be accessed via F8 and here is what is happening. On power up ( no obvious problems here with the power supply) the one key rescue system can not be used.Lenovo G580 goes into automatic system repair for around 5 minutes, then blank black screen for around an hour, followed by diagnosing your pc for 1.5 hours before repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete. After many hours nothing happens, so power down. Repeat, same scenario on boot up.Last problem. No recovery disc. Misplaced.Thank you for your help. Dave.

Answer:g580 Laptop will not boot windows 8 up.

hi bantamdave,

The computer seemed to have a Windows Boot Problem,
If the Unit Cannot boot into the Recovery using the OneKey Recovery Button

You will need an external media to Reload the Windows 8, Since there is no available Recovery CD, you can Contact Lenovo Technical Support in your location to order one for Windows 8
or if you have a friend who has a windows 8 ISO image or installer that'll work.

*But with the pattern of what happened to you sons computer I would suggest Call Lenovo and have the unit Checked, Im seeing a possible Harddrive Failure.

Hello, My problem with my G580 is that when I start up there is a sounds coming from the laptop and in the booting device list, the HDD with windows 7 on it which is the main HDD won't show. Pretty sure it is because the HDD somehow disconnected but how much will it cost if I send it in to lenovo to fix it? Video of when I start it up... https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bzb6bwEsdb02cS1RV05aTkVSbUU/edit?usp=sharing

Answer:g580 Laptop will not boot due to the harddrive some how disconnecting

Hi Brandon,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that your G580 Laptop is not detecting the HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and not booting to Windows. I would suggest you to perform the BIOS reset once and check if the HDD is detected in BIOS, below are the steps for the same:

To access BIOS menu press F2 when the Lenovo logo appears on the screen while the computer is starting up.
Then to reset the BIOS to its defaults click on ?F9? Key and select YES.
Now click on ?F10? Key to save the changes that are done in BIOS, the computer should automatically restart. Please check if the issue persists.

If the issue persists even after performing BIOS reset, I would suggest you to contact our Technical Support for further Assistance to get the details of the nearest Authorized Service Center to get the issue analyzed and for information about repair cost.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

Hi, I wish to reinstall my computer, but it happens that I have cracked the screen, rendering it unusable. I still use it on the TV screen with HDMI, with no problem. VGA works too. My goal though is to bring the BIOS interface to one of those screens, without touching anything in the screen itself : i saw that people managed to do it by unplugging totally the screen, to make VGA out the default monitor. The final aim would be to boot to a USB key and reinstall  Thanks for advice - I tried every combination of Fn and else and nothing worked.

Answer:G580 : cracked screen, how to boot on VGA or HDMI ?

Replacement LCD screens are fairly inexpensive on the Open Market.  You have several options to choose from in the service manual parts list.  The instructions to change out the screen are straight forward, and providing you know the difference between standard and phillips screw drivers you should be fine.

As to making the external port active a boot time for BIOS - that may not be possible as I could not find a setting to make that happen with my G580.  It would have to be a boot option in BIOS settings not from within Windows.  The OS is not loaded until after POST completes.

Good luck.

Just started happening this week.   It's stuck at the boot screen "lenovo".   I tried many different methods like removing battery, holding power button to reset, etc.  The *only* way to get it to boot is the remove memory card, and put it back.  Then it will boot up fine.     It might then boot fine for the rest of the day.  But then the next day (or after being shutdown for a while), it happens again so i have to remove memory card, put it back, etc.  What could be the problem here ?  I tried both memory slots.  So i don't think it's particular to one slot.

Recently my G580 (2189) hangs on Boot.  Get the spash screen and pressing F2 or F12 does nothing.  Have to keep power cycling the laptop up to 10 times before the boot process succeeds and loads windows. Running Win7 Professional on G580 (2189) laptop. Problem only recently started in the past couple of months after a series of Windows updates were installed.  Disk Check reports no errors. I have read this is a BIOS issue.  I have tried changing BIOS to EFI instead of UEFI, but the intermittent problem persists.  No updates to my BIOS are available through Lenovo, and I have found no insight when searching the forums.  I have found numerous people with the exact same problem, but what I read is that a new motherboard is called for from the people who have contacted Tech Support.  I have tried the battery removal, power button 30 seconds, etc. but it does nothing to fix the problem. Everything worked perfectly up until about 2 months ago.  Never an issue.  Now my laptop stall on boot, and one stop doesn't even work when the spash screen is stuck and windows does not load. Anyone know of the "cause" of the problem?  Is it truely a BIOS issue? Any suggestions as to a solution.  Laptop only recently went out of warranty, and I find it bizzare that it won't even boot.  if it is a BIOS issue, I am guessing reinstalling Win7 Pro won't help.

Answer:G580 (2189) Stuck on Splash Screen during Boot process

Follow the below mentioned steps to resolve the issue:Check if there are any external devices connected to the computer, if yes remove them and restart the system to check if the issue occurs. Perform Startup Repair:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/startup-repair If the issue persists, then start the system in safe mode with networking and check if the Windows load successfully.http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mf... If it works fine in safe mode try performing a clean boot to find the root cause. To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." I've had my laptop for 1-2 years and have so far been somewhat satisfied with it, until I ran into this problem.Whenever I start up my laptop, the lenovo screen will appear- sometimes it says 'Preparing automatic repair' underneath. About a minute later, this screen will disappear and the screen will turn completely black. After about 4-5 minutes, the lenovo screen will appear again, and then I get the Win 8 error message 'Your PC ran into an error and has to restart'. And then will restart, and repeat the cycle. Also, this is not relevant to the main issue- but the cable controlling backlighting has been damaged, and so I need to shine a light onto my screen to see what's on the monitor and an external monitor will not work until I install drivers- and so it is difficult to actually see the display until I repair said cable. When I connect a HDMI, it will just display the black screen- and so I know that there is nothing on the display at this point.I'm not sure if this is a hardware problem or not- as I took my computer apart to fix one of the hinges a couple of weeks ago. I've also tried the onekey recovery button. No luck either unfortunately. Thanks in advanceLewis

Answer:Lenovo G580 booting problem - Boot then black screen, then restart

Hi Lewis,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that your G580 Laptop is displaying black screen in the Inbuilt/External Display. Hence, I suggest you to perform the Flee-Power and BIOS reset. Below are the steps to check and resolve the issue:

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.
If the issue persists even after performing Flee Power then resetting BIOS to its defaults should resolve the issue.
Now access the BIOS menu press F2 when the Lenovo logo appears on the screen while the computer is starting up.
Then to reset the BIOS to its defaults click on ?F9? Key and select YES.
Now click on ?F10? Key to save the changes that are done in BIOS, restart the computer and check if the issue is resolved.

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

My T460 suddenly would not boot. After showing the lenovo logo it stops at the boot menu, without beeping or any sound. I try to select the options on the boot menu to boot from hard drive and usb. But none of these work. The screen just flash briefly and nothing happens. I have replaced the hard drive and memory on this laptop and installed ubuntu. It all works fine until recently. Any idea what causes the problem?

Hello,
I upgraded my laptop from windows 7 to windows 10 in August and there were no problems. For a month now, it boots till a black screen with the cursor or to the screen with the five dots. The only solution that I have found to boot normally is after five to six resets it boots normally, but next time it cannot boot again. I performed a system restore to a restore point of a month ago, but it came with an error about a problem of my antivirus program. I unistalled my antivirus and I tried again, but this time there were no restore points. What is the problem and how can I solve it? Thank you in advance.

Hi All, I have a g560 laptop which i bought just a month ago and use it for my study and entertainment purpose. I have noticed that sometimes when im using the laptop for more than 2-3 hrs. It starts giving me white screen. Lets say for ex. when the screensaver is supposed to come up, I get a white screen or when I am shutting down the white screen flashes for two times or when I turn the pc off, Its stuck at the white screen even though the laptop is off. The only way I can get the screen is off is by taking the battery out and then put the battery back in. In the past one month I've got this issue multiple times. Any help would be really appreciated. I work for a branded computer manufacturer myself but bought a LENoVo because my brother has been using a lenovo since the last three years without an issue. Thanks in advance

Maybe you need to update your BIOS. BUT WAIT!! If you do that, do it under DOS.

Hello, I have a hp probook laptop. I bought it recently with windows 7 operation system and I also have Microsoft security essentials installed. A problem appeared a few days ago. When I try to open a desktop item or generally a file from start menu, for example Documents, my laptop delays a lot to open it or even close it. For example if I want to open documents then a white fraime appears while loading, I try to close it because the file will delay a lot to open, but I can not. If I press the Esc key I noticed that I cancell the opening more quickly. However, I can browse through internet without any problem or delay at all, even if my laptop ties to open a file. When I restart the computer, everything works fine. I noticed that this problems appears, after working in desktop fo 5 or 10 minutes, or when my laptop sleeps and open it, then the desktop icons wont function.I already have done a search for errors, through Local Disc C --> Properties--> Tools and so on and it did not find anything. Please I could appreciate any help, thank you

Answer:My laptop stucks when I try to open a file

Hibernate is better than sleep if you are going to leave it that way for more than a short time. Please see:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/...You will get less errors with a cleaner restart with hibernate when used for longer periods of time and it will use less battery power as well. Do not forget to restart it occasionally if you do not shut it off each night, though shutdown nightly is recommended. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I can move mouse around and there is no login box?

Is there another bypass for this?

Please help!

Switch on the computer, press and hold the "F12" key while the Toshiba logo appears.

Anyone knows what could be the problem?
Is the System recovery. startup repair Tool could help me in this case?

I recently sent my laptop (Equium A300D-13x) back to Toshiba to be repaired as it was overheating and cutting out.

It came back today and when I turned it on I got the screen where I was asked if I wanted to go into safe mode or start Windows normally.
Then it goes to a screen where it says, *Finishing the installation may take several minutes.

Please do not interrupt or shutdown the computer!*

I've been waiting all day now and I'm still stuck on this screen.

Has anyone had the same problem? And if so, how can I fix it?

Answer:Equium A300D-13x stucks on installation screen

Hi

I?ve recovered my notebook many times and the installation went always troublefree.
But of course such installation issue could happen always and I think you should simply repeat this procedure.

If you don?t have Toshiba Recovery disk then try to recover the notebook using the HDD recovery option.
Just press F8 while notebook powering up.
Then choose ?Repair my computer?. Then a new window will appear and you could select the new option called Toshiba HDD.

Check it out!

Try running the Windows System File Checker (SFC)
Instructions: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
If that doesn't help, try doing a full scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware: Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download
Note: Uncheck the checkbox at the end of the installation titled "Enable free trial of Malwarebytes PRO"

Hello all,

I recently decided to upgrade the Memory in my lovely laptop.
I went online, found suitable RAMs and ordered.

What i got are 2 of these:
http://www.offtek.co.uk/ram-specification/toshiba/toshiba-laptop-memory/satellite-l675-10t/pid921300

Installation is very easy, but as soon as i turn on my laptop, it stucks in a black screen with a white underscore upright.

I guess its a incompatibility problem ?
Could you please help me out?

Thank you.

Answer:Satellite L675-10T stucks in a black screen after new RAM upgrade

I think you are right? it looks like the modules are not fully compatible even if the online dealer page says they are?
You can remove the new RAM modules just to check if the notebook would boot up properly? I guess the unit will power up correctly?.

Solution??? Use another RAM modules? I made good experience using Kingston modules? they could be a little bit expensive but I think they should work properly.

Hi,
Four days ago I installed BB flashback software but due to some problems I had to uninstall it and the installation didn't complete. After that day, whenever I open my Toshiba Laptop the windows vista boots normally but stucks at 'please wait while your system is preparing' screen. After waiting for a long time, I opened task manager, ended that running screen and then my laptops works just fine. I don't know what's that. I tried system restore many times but it always ends up unsuccessful. Later on I even installed BB flashback successfully and a new anti-virus AVG, but the problem persists. Any idea and any suggestions please???

Hello.

I have new laptop, ASUS A52J, i3 processor, 4 GB of memory, 640 GB hdd and so on.
It runs legal Windows 7 professional, x64 system and it usual memory usage after booting is around 40% as I have many applications loaded on boot (Skype, MSN, Hamachi, Avast, MSE, and few other utilities...)

It worked perfectly for few months, though it needed minute or 2 to completely load and boot, those few minutes were acceptable in every way.

Suddenly, I don't know why, when I turn on the laptop, type password and desktop appear it just stucks at that point. Anything I do in that 15 mins and sometimes more causes laptop to completely freeze. I cant even invoke task manager.

Its completely frustrating see this quite good configuration struggling to load and boot windows.

From your experience is this windows issue? Can this be connected with some recent windows 7 updates? Also, I checked memory with windows memory diagnostic tool seeking for some memory issues, but it whole test passed for several times without errors. I did repair using windows 7 DVD but this didn't solve the problem.

Avast free AV, Microsoft Essentials and Malwarebytes (all newest versions and updated ) didn't report any malware/virus/trojan on the system.

Can I suspect some faulty hardware on brand new laptop?

What are your suggestions?
Ty all in advance.
Dean

Answer:Windows 7 professional x64 stucks while booting on ASUS A52J laptop

Hmmm.........first thing I notice is that you have both Microsoft Security Essentials and Avast. You should pick one or the other, not both.

Type msconfig.exe in the start box and go to msconfig. Look at the startup tab. Uncheck everything except your antivirus and restart. Does that improve things?

Look at the services tab of msconfig. Check "hide all Microsoft services". How many services are then shown and do you need them all to be running?
Have you downloaded and run the hard disk manufacturer's disk tools?

You are absolutely locked out of Task Manager?

Hi,

I have a Satellite Pro C850-1FN and for some reason it gets stuck in a Preparing automatic repair screen on bootup. It will sit with the text on the screen and then after about 8 minutes a blue screen will show talking about a problem and then the PC re-boots.

The cycle is then continued.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Answer:Satellite Pro C850-1FN stucks in Preparing Automatic Repair screen

Hi

It looks like the automatic repair isn?t possible.
Did you try another option ? HDD recovery?

The HDD recovery procedure would start new system as well as driver installation and would set the notebook back to factory settings.

I think if system repair isn?t possible, your next step should be the HDD recovery.
In case the HDD recovery would not work too, then you should use the Recovery disk.

Hey guys,

I've been searching the web for solutions for hours now and won't find anything that works for me. You are kinda like my last hope.

Situation
I have a Asus A54C Laptop here (it's my brother's), that won't boot. If I turn it on, it quickly shows the Logo screen and nothing else happens.
If I have a WIN7-DVD in the DVD-drive (created with downloaded ISO, it seems to be working on another laptop), the drive makes some noises but nothing else happens.
If I have a Ubuntu-Live-USB plugged in (worked on this Laptop before), nothing happens.
If I press F2 repeatedly after turning the Laotop on (it's the BIOS-key), nothing happens.

What I've tried
I tried several potential BIOS-keys, although I am 99% sure that F2 is the one.
I tried the turn off, deplug battery and cable, hit power-switch 20 times and for a minute thing.
I tried unplugging the Laptop while it was in the logo screen, hoping this would bring me to BIOS after starting it again.

How I got there
An Ubuntu system has been installed on the Laptop for a while. Now, my brother needed a windows and I wanted to create a dual boot system (what I had succesfully done before).
Some stupid mistakes later, I had a corrupted Win7 and wanted to overwrite it with a fresh install.
I tried to delete the 100MB system reserved partition (in the WIN7-installation menu) because I thought, a fresh install would create a new one. This took about 1 hour (for the 100 MBs) without any visible progress, I finally ... Read more

Answer:Laptop won't boot (Logo screen),can't boot from USB/DVD or access BIOS

Hello and welcome Joe mate the BIOS key is F2 and this is the manual for that model sorry but I can only access the English version - if you type in what you want to search for it automatically will go to that setting or instruction. https://www.manualowl.com/m/Asus/A54...261331?page=84

Now if you select the optical as the first boot device and it will not go then maybe it needs a new optical drive - very cheap these days and you may be lucky that it is held in with one screw on the underside of the laptop without any pics it is hard to tell - it possibly could be in that manual.

Now for the BSOD's please use these if you want to get them analysed

My laptop is able to boot up normally. But when I want to log in to my account, it stucks at "Loading your personal settings" screen. I waited for quite sometime but it is still stuck there and my profile is not uploaded. I tried many times. But discovered I am able to log in to administrator account and use it without problems. I had even done a system restore but it does not solve the problem. It was working fine till now. I had this problem before and had to reformat it. But I do not want to. Is there any way to solve this problem? Please help. I really need to access to this account.

Answer:Screen stucks at "Loading your personal settings". HELP please!!!

If you can log in to the administrator account then you should be able to resolve this.Log in as the admin, then openC:\Documents and Settings\your.usernameSelect Tools > Folder Options > View Select "Show hidden files and folders"This folder contains all the information relating to your account. For the time being, you can access files this way.To resolve the problem, I would try renaming the folders in C:\Documents and Settings\your.username one at a time. Then log off, and try logging on again.eg. Rename "Application Data" to "Application Data Old"Log off administratorLog on as your.usernameIf this failsLog on as administratorRename "C:\Documents and Settings\your.username\application data old" back to C:\Documents and Settings\your.username\application dataRepeat this process for each folder.

Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron 14R N4110 Laptop. On pressing power button the screen becomes a bit shiny due to backllight, fan starts and parts seems to be spinning inside but screen remains blank, even dell logo does not appear. I have tried removing battery and pressing power button, also I tried pressing Fn button + Power button but I no luck. I also tried to reach diagnostic screen using F12 during boot but that also did not help. Power Led and Battery Led lights work but harddisk led does not blink.
Also I noticed that after pressing power button when I LONG PRESS any button of the keyboard, is sounds a continuous ticking sound like kirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
In all the troubleshooting no beep sound comes ever. Could someone suggest how to make my laptop functional again.
Thanks,
Piyush

Answer:Inspiron Laptop does not boot, nothing appears on screen, only back light glows on screen

Hi piy_laptop
Thanks for writing to us.
When did the issue start? Was there any hardware of software changes done recently?
Does the caps lock respond when toggled?
Please try remove the memory modules and power up without them, then try with one module at a time.
You can get the instructions on support.euro.dell.com--enter the tag#--submit--manuals.
If the system is still not beeping or shows any promising signs then we are looking at a faulty motherboard.
Do provide us the system tag# and also confirm the name the system is registered under by clicking on my name in blue and then select send a private message. Also let us know the contact number and email address

Hi,

I bought a new laptop - HP Compaq Presario, Intel Pentium Processor T4300 (2.1 GHz), 500 GB Hard Drive, 4 GB RAM, nVidia GeForce G 103M with 512 MB DDR2 dedicated graphics memory. After a week, i got the firs blue screen error after which it couldn't boot [i couldn't even get to BIOS).
I was out of the country, so my friend called the service staff who told him to try to run some tests, that time it worked, he got to BIOS, ran the tests, everything was fine and the laptop started up normally. Now, 2 weeks after, I'm getting blue screens continuously, and laptop won't boot. If it boots [and it usually happens when you hit it slightly, though, i don't know if it's a conincidence], windows 7 starts up normally and everything is working fine until the next blue screen shows up, which disables my laptop all over again.

Blue screen looks like this:

BAD_POOL_CALLER

Technical information:

STOP: 0x0000000C2 (0x00000099, 0xFE8F40DC, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
Collecting data for crash dump
Initializing disk for crash dump
Beginning dump of physical memory
Dumping physical memory to disk:100
Physical memory dump complete
Is it a software crash? Can I run Win 7 repair if I manage to boot it and how to do that? Is it my hard disk problem?
What to do? -.-

Answer:Blue screen BAD_POOL_CALLER; laptop won't boot, a new laptop dying?

If you can get it to work by tapping on the machine, then it doesn't sound like a software problem. It could be a bad system board or memory.

I would call HP again and see about getting service on the hardware.

Need help here.

I have a HP laptop DV9543cl with 32bit Vista. Last Thursday (6/3/2010), Vista update icon showed up and asked me to install the update. As always, i did that. Once install was done, it asked for a reboot which i did. It started booting up again and when it finished Windows logo screen, it went blank and no display with all the other lights were in correct status. I waited for a long time before attempting a reboot. Since then i don't see anything on the screen after the initial BIOS screen (Which is also all jumbled up). I tried F8 (BIOS) and F11(Restore) but no screen. Don't know what to do but i am pretty sure that Laptop is working ok just not displaying anything. I am going to try Remote desktop on it now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've had my Lenovo g580 for just over 2 years and a couple of weeks ago it just wouldn't boot. I left it on charge for a few days thinking it would sort itself out but it hasn't! I've tried absolutely everything I've read online, at this point I am not bothered about losing all of my photos and music (although that would be horrible) but I just want the laptop to work again! If anybody has any clue why it won't turn on I would be very grateful! When I turn on the laptop the Lenovo logo shows and the rotating dots appear but nothing else happens. I've tried pressing various 'f' buttons to bring up the recover and repair option but it doesn't work for me. I've removed the battery and tried the 'press the on button 10 times' trick but that doesn't work either. Please help!

Answer:Lenovo G580 boot from DVD

hi richclever,

That's a weird problem you got there. If the ODD is detected under BIOS, have you tried to:

1. Reset the BIOS to default settings by pressing F9, then F10 to save the settings and try to launch the boot manager again by pressing F12 during startup and see if the ODD selection is there.
2. Tried to boot the linux mint DVD that you burned into another PC
3. Tried to use a different burning software like imgburn to burn the Linux Mint iso.
4. Tried another bootable DVD to see if it can boot from it.

If the above procedure doesn't work and your bootable linux mint dvd works on a different PC, there might be a problem with the ODD lense.

You might be interested in creating a bootable linux mint usb.

Hope this helps.

Hi all, I purchased a G580 14 months ago - warrantly recently expired, conveniently - and on a recent attempt to boot, gave no response whatsoever. The power light does not come on, and the light on the front acknowledging the adaptor also gives no response. EasyRecovery does nothing either. I've tested the adaptor and it is providing charge and current, so it's not a power issue. I've tried what seems to be the default option of removing battery+adaptor, holding the power button down etc to no avail. Any ideas?

Answer:G580 won't boot - no response

Hi Rdillon,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your G580 Laptop is not powering ON and also there are not indications, as you have performed Flee-Power (Holding the Power button when all the peripherals & Battery are removed) step. I suggest you to check turning ON when only the AC Adapter is connected and Battery is removed. If the issue persists, I would Strongly Suggest Calling Technical Support for Assistance to get the information of the nearest Authorized Service Center to get the issue analyzed.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

Do post us back for further queries.

Question: G580 boot failure

Hi, I have a Levono G580 laptop, and a couple of days ago it suddenly had an error screen, and since that time, when the laptop is being moved, it randomly gets blue screens. When I try to restart it, it opens up the boot manager and it doesn't show any device (neither the hdd nor the dvd). The devices won't appear in the bios either. I assume that it's the contact problem of the SATA controller. What do you think about it? Do you have any suggestions about how to fix it?Thank you very much!Best regards,Tamas

Answer:G580 boot failure

A short update: sometimes it brings up the boot manager when I start it, but sometimes it simply displays that "There are no bootable devices, please restart the computer". Also, when the Lenovo logo is being displayed, sometimes it displays to enter the setup by pressing F2 and to the boot manager by F12, but sometimes it's just blank below the logo. Thank you for your help in advance. Best regards,Tamas

A crash dump initiated, I instinctively used the power button to shut Dow. And now it won't load.I end up with a message saying to "check cable connection!" and then t the boot menu /app menu screen.I used a seagate dos tool to test the hard drive, it's still recognised by serial number and passed the long test. It did warn me that it had seen above 70 deg c though.Tapping f8 doesn't do anything when starting up, nor does alt +f10.Any ideas on what to do? The laptop is only a little over a year old.

Answer:Lenovo g580 won't boot

Any ideas on this gents?Powered down after a crash dump and now it can't load. The laptop definitely over heated, I.e above 70 deg but it still recognises the hard drive in the bios menu.I did a test on the ram and it seemed to be working fine. I tried re-installing windows but it went through the "windows is loading files" section for about an hour but then just came up with an error message I.e. files could not be loaded. The warranty has expired by approx a month, typical, so what are my options here?Where can I find a re-installation cd/download for windows home premium x64? Will it work with my specific product key on the bottom of my laptop etc? Please advise.

I checked in the BIOS and made the DVD drive the first priority boot option but it still doesn't boot from a disc. Any help would be appreciated as it is actually quite urgent. Thanks

Hallo, I tried to boot on my new G580 (2189, Win8) a Linux (LiveCD). Unfortunately I failed. The BIOS misses entries to select possible boot devices or boot order. Obviously these entries are in the UEFI BIOS. How to edit/expand these entries to boot from DVD or USB stick? Or is it necessary to add some options via BCDEdit? If yes, how to do it? Here the same message in German: ich habe jetzt mal versucht, auf meinem neuen G580 mit Win8 von einer DVD bzw. von einem USB-Stick ein Linux (LiveCD) zu booten. Leider vergebens.

Answer:G580 (2189) does not boot from USB or DVD

As this is one of the first items to pop up in a search regarding this problem, I thought I would share my solution:Enter the BIOS. Disable Secure Boot (requires setting a password first). Set boot mode to legacy (non-UEFI).You can now boot successfully from a USB drive! The only way I could make it boot from a CD (or, in fact, 'see' the optical drive at all) was to set the SATA controller to legacy (emulated IDE) mode. This would be less than ideal usually as installing in legacy mode and switching back to AHCI mode afterward invites many headaches alone, but in this case it proves utterly pointless since the hard drive was invisible to my USB boot drive anyway. *banging head off wall*I am not impressed with this laptop. That's the nicest thing I can say about it, yet I've been saying (screaming) a lot about it the last day or so... o.OADDENDUM: I may be a first-time poster to this forum, but the user subtitle of "What's DOS?" is inaccurate to the point of being an outright insult. I bought a lenovo G580 a few months back and it has already gone bad. I am not able to switch on the system without the chargers plugged in. I have called up the customer service but they dont seem to be of any help either. They just lack the communication skills and fail to give any solution. If my problem isn't sorted out. i will have to post my pathetic experience with Lenovo on all the social networking websites. If the company can't assist us during the warranty period, I wonder what will happen if the warranty period expires.

Answer:I Don't Know Why This Happens To My New G580 Laptop

Hi, I have a G580 too, but I havn't dis-assembled it yet. I used to fix laptops at my old job routinely.  I can narrow it down for you a little at least, if you havn't already.  I've seen that problem many times.  It may just be that the LCD cable is not fully plugged in at one end or the other.  Or the cable could be bad.  You should try carefully reseating your memory too.  Memory could be another culprit.  Often though, unfortunately, when something is wrong with a video card, or main board with integrated video, like I think ours have, it will look like that too.  Reseating the LCD cable connections may be worth a shot, but you'll have to take half the laptop apart to get to both ends, not a big deal if your seasoned at it. Not to get off topic, Since you have a G580 also, I am very curious if you can get into the BIOS setup at all, in any way? thats the problem I'm working on with mine....

Answer:G580 unable to boot to Windows 8

hi Horrorchris,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

When you tried restoring the system via the OneKey Recovery button, is the unit freezing during the restoration screen? If yes then I'm afraid the HDD might be failing.

To verify this, try to
1. Burn a copy of Seatools for DOS and run a diagnostic on the HDD or
2. Remove the HDD (see this G580 Video Disassembly Guide), use a 2.5" USB SATA Enclosure to read the HDD on a different machine and test it using Seatools for Windows or HD Tune.

If you get any errors on the scan then you may need to contact lenovo for service.

Hi there, I own a lenovo G580 which was working great until a few days ago. When I try to switch it on, it says "checking for media..." then EFI network 0 for IPv6 (20-89-84-3A-D9-FB) boot failed.checking media [Fail]EFI Network 0 for IPv4 (20-89-84-3A-D9-FB) boot failed. then a blue screen pops up saying: "Default boot service missing or boot failed.Insert recovery media and hit any keythen select boot manager to choose a new bootdevice or to boot recovery media" What exactly are the recovery media that I need to use and how do I use them? Thank you, Yoni

Answer:Lenovo G580 boot failure

hi Yoni,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

From your description, it looks the UEFI boot manager (the one that boots up Windows 8) is corrupt..

Can you try to:
1. Boot into the BIOS by pressing F2 on startup. In the BIOS, navigate to the Boot Tab and set UEFI to Disabled or Legacy
 - Sample image

2. When finished, press F10 to save and exit and observe if you can now boot into Windows.

If you still get the same error, you will need to undo the changes from the above steps and press the OneKey Recovery button (this is the recovery media that's embedded on a hidden partition on the HDD).

Hi Amitpa,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums! We sorry to hear that the hear that the keyboard is not working as expected even after perfomring OSRI(Operating System Re-Installation), as per RMattoo it seems to be a hardware issue with the keyboard.

As an alternative please check with an "External Keyboard" and if there is no issue, I would request you to contact Lenovo Technical Support for Hardware assistance to get the keyboard replaced. Please do give this a try and let us know. Best RegardsShiva Kumar

I have a G580 (20157) since 2012, was working smooth and without problems. Upgrade to Windows 8.1 and download all drivers, since last year. Was booting with UEFI without problems till yesterday, I never give the sleep action but yesterday I did, and now it won´t boot, the power and start leds flash constantly but don´t do anything else. I took out the CMOS Battery and the PC Battery, and wait for two or three hours, then It boot but after turn off do the same. It looks like something in BIOS or system is not clean at all.Note: I upgrade de HDD to 1 Terabyte and Upgrade to Windows 8.1 without upgrading first the BIOS. But that was almost a year ago and the Notebook was working smooth. What can I do? Is there a trick or something at Bios that I can turn off the windows sleep action? Upgrade Bios will solve the problem? Please Help Me.

Okay! Apologies if I've missed this exact same post somewhere, I Googled for literally days and couldn't find a sausage about how to boot my Lenovo G580 from disk but I've finally, by accident, found the answer! So, when you go to the boot menu, it'll look something like this:  (Note: this image is taken from Google, I had no way of taking a picture of my own) Now, if you're like me, you would think that in order to boot the laptop from a disk, you'd need to re-order so that the highlighted line was at the top! Makes sense, right? Well let me tell you, I don't know what the heck that is but it sure ain't the right option to boot from disk. You need to actually make the 'USB CD' option the first one and viola! It works! I did it on a whim because I'd tried everything else, why not right? Turns out I'm the luckiest person in the world and I did a victory lap of the house.

Answer:G580 - Take too much time to boot up and shutdown

Hi NSKA ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Checking if start up a and shut down on safe mode would isolate 3rd party apps that may be run on the background.

See if a clean boot would make it fast .

Run sfc /scannow to check on the system files integrity .

Finally running hardware diagnostics to isolate possible hardware issue .

Update us how it goes.

Hi, first post to this forum, so please forgive me if I've posted in the wrong place. I have a similar problem with a G580.   I've done some searching on this and other forums but so far nothing has helped. Here's the issue:1. I had a working Win8 installation, on a SSD.  (wrist-slap 1, yes I know - possibly a bad idea).  This has been working well for months.2. Something happened - I can't ID what - possibly a virus but I do have Norton installed and not aware of any threats.3. Windows stopped working.  By that I mean it started failing on some of the registry checks - e.g. starting Excel threw an error, running the Store App also failed etc.  When I did a re-boot, I could not re-start Win, but did get the recovery screens instead.4. When I tried any of the options, including the Refresh, Restore I got an error complaining the disk was locked.5. I used the command window do to various things such asBOOTREC /FIXMBRBOOTREC /FIXBOOTBOOTREC /SCANOSBOOTREC /REBUILDBCDSome of these failed due to various complaints about the disk.6. I do have a working System Restore USB drive and full sys backup, however....7. I was not able to actually boot from this - possibly due to by BIOS and secure boot settings.8. I was pretty desperate by now - and (yes slap wrists #2 or more) I ran a CLEAN on the system partition.  Yes, I'm cringing even now as I type.  Anyhow...9. Now I can not even boot the laptop into recovery mode.9. So I now have a) a... Read more

Answer:Re: Cannot Change Boot Priority To CD-ROM -- G580

ok, so I was hoping for at least a slap on the wrists, maybe even a big telling off.  But so far....nothing.  That's probably because my question looks a bit complex, or the right person has not read it yet? Anyhow...in case this helps: here's an update. I've got the original HDD (altered) which still has recovery partitions on it intact.  I copied all recovery partitions (and a few I was not sure about) to the SSD (using a working machine of course) and also copied from my system backup the C: drive to a new NFTS partition on the SSD.  I didn't fully expect that to work as I'd expect to hit some UEFI issues, and sure enough, when I now try to boot from the SSD, I get a complaint that the Boot information is missing or corrupt, and I need to insert my Win 8 installation disk....which of course I don't have. But that's definitely progress. Now: I don't even mind buying a new Win8 disk if that will help things along (probably my fault for altering things so much initially anyhow) - so long as this will fix this issue. So my question is: does anyone have an expert opinion on whether I can buy a new Win 8 CD/USB and will that let me restore my SSD to where it needs to?  Or is that also doomed for failure and why? Again, any help appreciated, even if it involves a bit of telling off....not that I like that sort of thing. Thanks Jonathan

Hi All.

I have been facing this issue since last two weeks.

I have Lenovo 580. Currently in Windows 7 - x64.

Suddenly both my USB 3.0 ports stopped working. I tested by inserting multiple pen drives, external hard discs and they weren't even getting the power.

When I go to Device Manager, under Universal Serial Bus Controller -> There is an exclamation mark next to : Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller.

Read few posts here, tried installing all sorts of drivers from Lenovo, Intel.
Thinking that OS reinstallation would help, I installed Windows 10, 8.1, 8 & now in 7.
But the ports aren't getting the required power or detected.

I am sure I am missing something. Can someone please help me or point me to the right direction to fix this ? :-(

Thank you in advance.

Answer:G580 - USB 3.0 Ports - Unable to start - Code 10 - Lenovo G580 - Windows 7, 8, 8.1 & 10. Please help...

hi icykash,

From the steps that you've tried, it does look like there's a hardware problem on the USB 3.0 ports (especially if you're getting Code 33 or 43 from the Device Manager).

Error codes in Device Manager

Last thing that you probably try:
1. Run the Hardware devices are not working  or the Diagnose and fix Windows USB problems tool from microsoft.

2. Shutdown the machine, remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter then hold the power button for 20secs (this drains any electric charge that's left on the machine).

When finished, plug-in the AC adapter and turn on the machine then hit F2 to boot into the BIOS. Once In the BIOS, hit F9 to load default settings then hit F10 to save and exit (this resets the hardware configuration of the machine to default).

When the machine boots back into Windows, check if the USB 3.0 ports are now working,

In case this still doesn't fixes the issue then I recommend you will need to send the unit for service.

Hello,

Since the Uprgrade from 8.1 to Windows 10, my Qualcomm Atheros Bluetooth Suite AR3012 4.0, which worked on my 8.1 Windows doesn't work properly anymore.  Eviently Qualcomm does not have a driver for Windows 10 (see Google)

It states the the Version for Windows 8.1 should also be appropriate for Windows 10, but it's not.  I have tried several things to get this problem solved.  But after installing I get the message in Results:

"The device "USB\VID_0CF3&PID_3004\Alaska_Day_2006" needs further installation or is awaiting further installation.  (Translation from the German lanquage  to english.

I am able to SEND data to my Cell and also to a Bluetooth Loudspeaker and thes two devises are alos shown as connected.  My problem is that I can#t receive data from a bluetooth device on my G580 Notebook.

I've tried the following with no help at all.:

1. Device manager:  De-installed the driver and newly installed it. (no help)
2. Device manager:  De.installed the driver and restarted Windows 10 in order to install from Windows.  (no help)
3. Device manger:  De-installed the driver and installed a newer version of Qualcomm Atheros Bluetooth Suite AR3012 4.0 HD (no help)

Does anyone out there have an idea what the problem could be?

Answer:G580 - Qualcomm Atheros Bluetooth Suite (64) problem since upgrade to Windows 10 - G580 (2189)

hi DFazendin,

Welcome to the Forums.

I don't have a G580 here for testing but I think the problem is with the drivers.

Things that you can try:
1. Right click on the bluetooth icon (notification area) and check if you have a Receive a file on the menu to receive files from other bluetooth devices.
     - Sample image

If that option isn't there, follow this guide on how to fix it.

Alternatively, you can use the Bluetooth transfer tool "fsquirt" to send/receive files (located in Drive C:\)
  - Sample image
  - Sample image

2. Install a complete Bluetooth Suite (software + driver) as discussed in this thread.

Let me know if this works for you.

My laptop which I have over a year now has an issue with the keyboard. I've had this issue for last few weeks now.  It was running running windows 8.1. The issue is the keyboard will suddenly stopped working whilst using the laptop. Even after several restarts the keyboards do not function - only the touch pad operates. If you connect an external keyboard - this works fine. All keys on the keyboard are affected. I have uninstalled the keyboard from the device manager but does not have any affect. When I reinstalled windows 8.1 it started working again but then issue occured again. I thought it maybe because of 8.1 so installed windows 8 but the same happened thing.  I've not put Windows 7 and it worked for a day and then the keyboard stopped working.  if you could let me know what could the issue be, that would be great.

Answer:G580 - laptop not starting

I suspect your HDD has a problem, usually it is like this, it refuses to boot if the HDD has fried on you, try one key recovery to restore it to day 1 condition. Otherwise, buy a 2.5 hdd enclosure slap your hdd inside, save the files, after that reinstall windows 8 or do the one key recovery.

Answer:New 4 GB Ram For Laptop Lenovo G580

Hi Ron007 ,

Greetings.
On upgrading RAM , it is always advised to match the same specifications recommended by the manufacturer to avoid incompatibilities and other issues. To purchase it directly from manufacturer or certified resellers that guarantee that it is compatible with the model.

Basic rule in RAM upgrade is match and pair same specific frequency module but theoretically would still work and the pc would just be choosing the lowest frequency (clocking down) to work with.

Some system would not detect the added RAM and some just simply not proceed on booting , not necessarily harming the motherboard or processor.

Hi there,My laptop is Lenovo G580It's been working all day and then before it just turned off. I plugged in the charger thinking the battery just lost it's juice, but there is no light to signal it's charging. I tried turning it on and off to no effect. I've taken the battery out and plugged in the charger, and pressed the power button for 30 seconds or so but again, nothing is happening - the screen simply remains black and there is no charging light to indicate the charger is charging the laptop. Is this an issue with the battery or the motherboard. It's warranty has ran out. D

Friends Every now and then my wife's Lenovo G580 freezes with the screen looking like the pic included. Then one has to reboot the computer to be able to do anything with it. It is quite frustrating. There does not seem to be any particular event preceeding it. More like random. It has Win 8.1 with the latest BIOS and drivers.Any ideas what could cause it? No warranty anymore. :/ ThanksCalle

Hi I have had a G580 for a week and it is beset with screen problems. For no reason, and with different software in use, the screen suddenly  flashes  and displays a number of columns all filled with what look rather like bar codes,  exactly as shown in this picture  http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/media/gallerypage/user-id/230839/image-id/15043i91D84DDE92BD3F70. The machine is totally locked, and I have to reboot using the power on/off switch. I have installed the removed and reinstalled drivers for the graphics card listed on the Lenovo website - it made no difference. I have installed later drivers from th eIntel (the graphics card manufacturer) site - they   made no difference either. This has clearly been an issue for some time - there are other reports of it in these forums. I presume Lenovo have by now developed some idea of what causes this, and how to fix it. Could you please advise, or would I be better off just returning  the machine to the shop and buying a different make?. Thanks for your advice.

Answer:G580 Screen Problem -

Hi fleabag155,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Judging by the photo you showed, this seems to be a hardware concern.
The Best way to isolate this is to use an external monitor, If possible connect it and observe when it is showing the problem.

If the problem only showed on your built in screen and not on the external one, chances are it is the LCD or the LCD connector.

If both showed the same problem then it might be the board / built in graphics.

Either way it has to be serviced. If the system is  Brand New I recommend you call the store and report the problem.
If not I suggest you call Technical Team for Assistance.

I've had my G580 from new since the 16th of October 2013. Since I?ve had it I keep getting a corrupted screen after about half an hour or so of use. I don?t know what causes it. But it seems to be happening more often now. Any ideas what?s happening? Do I need to send it back to shop or Lenovo?

Hello,I am trying to setup a three screen monitor setup with two external and the last one being the integrated monitor in the computer.I cant get it to work tho, does the G580 support this?Regards, Fabian

Answer:G580 three screen support

hi Fabian,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

The Lenovo G580 runs on the  Intel® H76 Express Chipset as stated on this pdf data sheet which is capable of dual display only.

Triple display maybe possible if you have a 3rd Gen CPU and Intel HD Graphics 4000.

Check these articles:
Intel Graphics Multiple Displays FAQ
How to enable 3-Display mode

Hope this helps
