I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm running XP Tablet PC Edition, but have no access to the X41 hardware buttons. Winodws Help says I need to get those working in the Tablet and Pen Settings in Control Panel. However, my Control Panel setting don't inlcude that feature at all, even though I'm running Tablet Edition. I upgraded from SP2 to SP3, and have tried a few other Winhdows Updates, but it hasn't magically appeared. I bought my X41 on eBay, without the install disks, so I can't just reiinstall and hope that it will show that way either.Any one know a driver or other software I can use to get it working? Thanks.

I installed (and reinstalled couple of times) Windows Home Premium to my tablet (HP TX1000) and can't find the Tablet PC Settings under Control Panel.

I also tried Windows Update and hoped that it gets to install this setting but after the last update, i still can't find the settings.

Also, I found a forum where they suggested that I look for a setting where I can enable (unhide) the Tablet PC Settings. I don't remember the website but they provided screenshots on how to get there, and so i did get there but the checkbox for Tablet PC Settings is missing in my configuration. So I guess that the settings were not installed on my tablet.

I already checked the different versions of Vista and verified that Vista Home Premium includes Tablet PC Settings, and I'm sure that it does not have any sub types (like Vista Home Premium with Tablet PC, or Vista Home Premium without tablet PC) or am I wrong?

oh I did not get any error and such during the installation of vista home premium (retail), and under device manager, there are no yellow/red icons on the devices aside from the webcam cause i haven't found the driver for it yet.

can you guys help me out?

I have upgraded to Windows 8 64 bit on my X61 Tablet, however I cannot get the tablet buttons, hotkeys, or auto-rotation to work. My understanding is that Lenovo has stopped supporting these products. I think it is a shame to stop using a perfectly working tablet PC with a superior LCD. I don't want to go back to Win 7 leaving all kinds of nice features on Windows 8. Any suggestions? Is there a hope? Koray

Answer:X61 Tablet Windows 8 - Tablet Button and Features Request

Hi koray,
I've been playing around with Windows 8 since the developers preview.  I've ran it on a lot of older systems.  Getting things to work will require some experimentation on your part.
You can start with your Driver Matrix.  There you can find the Hotkeys Utility for Windows 8.  You will also need the Power Manager Driver for Windows 8.  Not Power Manager,  just the Power Manager Driver.
Run Windows Update, it will probably find some stuff.  Some Windows 7 drivers will work, others won't.
I'm running Windows 8 Pro on an x60 tablet and everything works fine.  I also have it on an x61 non-tablet and it runs fine. I had to do a lot of messing around with stuff to get them to work right though.
Just make sure that you set system restore points before changing anything so you can get back what you had before, just in case something doesn't work right.  And, only install one thing at a time and reboot and test it out thoroughly before you install something else.
Good luck with this,

I have Windows 7 Prof x64.

My question is, when displaing all software installed and choosing more columns of information to display, they don't stay. For example, choosing Location column. Getting out of the installed programs list and then returning to it, the Location column is gone.

Is there some what to get the columns to be persistent?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Question about Windows 7 Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features

The Programs and Features listing is shown to you by the Explorer app. Each time that you open/close the Windows (file) Explorer while viewing a folder (or a special view/list like the Programs and Features listing), Explorer tries to write info to the registry about how Explorer was showing you that folder. Windows (file) Explorer tries to write this "how to display a folder" info at other times besides just closing an Explorer window, but I'll not go into all of that.

Microsoft has not solved the problem that happens when these places in the registry get too big. When this happens, you may see the problem that you are experiencing - that of no longer being able to store the layout/view/column width/column selection/... info in the registry.

Below is video that I made showing registry keys being made. (I'm not suggesting that you mess with the registry.) Notice that new keys are made when visiting the folder named Temp. Deleting this Temp folder does not remove those registry keys. If you close Windows (file) Explorer while viewing a compressed folder (a ZIP file), the Explorer app tries to make keys so that it can remember how it last showed you that folder. If you delete or move that ZIP folder to another location, the original registry keys remain. So you can see how this area of the registry can fill up.

edit: I had to make this video again. I hope that I covered all of the original points.

One solution is to remove all of the entries/keys in the areas of ... Read more

I was just checking my graphics card update in control panel programs and features when I noticed that the total used was 126gb. 125gb was allocated to The Complete National Geographic. Looking in computer the total of the six National Geographic dvd's came to 43.42gb. My C drive is 233gb total of which 75.1gb is used. Any idea's why?

Answer:Programs and features in control panel

I don't understand what you are asking.

Since you state that your drive is 233GB total with 75.1 GB used, there cannot be 126 GB of software installed.

Have you installed to another drive?

Can you provide a screen shot of Programs and Features?

Hi guys, hope you can help me with this please because I don?t really know what to do to solve it.

I have a Vaio running Windows 8.1. but coming with Windows 8 preinstalled. I have recently noticed that most of the programs and apps (Adobe, Realtek, Sony folder, Intel, Avast, Java, Bluetooth?) on Programs and Features (Uninstall a Program) have vanished without knowing how. Only Microsoft apps are displayed there for some reason.

First, I run sfc /scannow and found some corrupted files that could not be fixed, so I decided to perform a full recovery (through Vaio Care that makes use of the Recovery partition) that restores the system to factory settings. After recovery, all programs and apps were in Programs and Features as expected. However, after removing either the preinstalled version of MS Office 2013 or the preinstalled games, most programs and apps disappeared again. I run again sfc /scannow, Avast and Malwarebytes and they found no issues at all. I also tried System Restore, but it did not fix anything. Only MS Office 2013, Avast and Malwarebytes are currently installed on the drive, along with Windows automatic updates (including Windows 8.1), and I have not used any ?cleaner? or ?optimizer? tools.

I found a potential cause for this. Apparently, the uninstaller for a program can incorrectly remove registry entries that are used by Windows and the Add/Remove Programs tool (Add/Remove Programs tool displays installed programs incorrectly), but I am not sure whether... Read more

Answer:Windows 7 Programs and Features in Control Panel not opening

It is best not to use anything that promises to fix registry.Perform a System Restore to a time before you installed or ran it and if your problems began before that, pick a time for the restore to before your troubles began. After the system restore completes, run Malwarebytes to be sure that some of your troubles were not caused by malware. This section of my win 7 professional (x64) computer appears to have files that are out of date, near duplicates and possible useless files (x32 versions and I use x64 OS). For example, the addition of a MS programs do not delete the out of date ones (I have 2010, and other versions of Virtual Studio express!).

Can anyone provide guidance on what files may be deleted from this section of my computer (if any) and how to delete such files?

Thanks for any help'

Answer:Can I cleanup Control Panel>programs and features entries

Hello frvaughan2 and welcome to Seven Forums.

Some programs do not delete previous versions. Each new version builds upon a previous version so deleting an older version could cause the program to stop working. Other programs may install a 32-bit and a 64-bit version for backward compatibility purposes. This article explains why Windows 7 comes with a 32-bit and 64-bit version of Internet Explorer. The same concepts would apply to other programs.

If you post a screenshot of your Programs and Features the Forum experts might be better able to advise you if any can be removed.

Found a lot of other posts all over the internet, suggesting malware scans, SFC/Scannow, even chkdsk
But none of these people got their issue resolved, and all ended up reinstalling the OS.
My programs work fine, but they are not listed in Control Panel/ Programs and features
I can even uninstall them by manually browsing to c:\program files\<name of software>\uninst000.exe (or whatever the name of the uninstaller is)
Then after uninstalling the above way, if I reinstall the same software again, the name of the software shows up in my Control Panel/ Programs and features.
I have about 200 programs installed, and Control Panel/ Programs and features lists only 98 now (it was listing even less, but I got a few back after manually uninstalling/ reinstalling, don't have the patience to reinstall all the 200+ programs I have).
Short of performing a factory reset (F11 at startup and then launch HP Complete Recovery, or booting up from the recovery disks I created when I got the computer), is there something that can be done to fix this issue??
The computer I'm using is HP Envy K204TX (touchscreen version), and it's running Windows 8.1 Home (64 bit).
If you need the entire configuration (CPU, RAM, etc) ask me, not posting cause I don't think this matters.

I have on occasion used iObit Uninstaller but only in the most severe situations. iObit Uninstaller does seem to have a reputation of doing more than what one expects. You might try System Restore to a day before the program was installed. If that doesn't work there's other options in Recovery but they can be more severe that what is needed so be sure to read everything carefully.

When installing applications they appear to install correctly. An icon is created on the desktop and I can access the program.

In control panel under programs and features... the application is not showing up. I cannot uninstall the programs, because they aren't showing in programs and features to uninstall.

Yes, workarounds can be used to delete the program, but there is something wrong. The programs are not installing properly.

I ran sfc/ scannow as admin no problems indicated
After a couple hours messing with this:

Thought I should add this... When I right click on the installer/setup exe file and select to run as administrator the installer works and does show up in programs and features... Also, I can delete the program as well from programs and features.

I have never had to do this before even though I am admin...(in name mostly) unless I am willing to allow more vulnerability to my system by turning on all the time. Still having to run as admin does seem a bit much for installing programs. The worst part...the installer will run, installs the program, yet leaves off the ability to uninstall or change in the programs and features page of control panel

Hi, all

This is a very frustrating issue that I'm having. I need to go into Nvidia control panel to change some options but I only am able to mess with sterescopic 3d settings...

this is what it looks like

This seems to be a common issue but every other suggestion online does not fix it for me. I only have 1 monitor (people suggested disconnection dual monitors) I have updated my drivers, I replugged my only monitor, I ended the process and tried again, but still nothing.

Can anyone help me?

Answer:NVIDIA Control Panel only showing stereoscopic 3d settings

As most people online suggest/say, the problem is not a problem at all. Your computer (Almost 100% sure of it) runs on an integrated graphics card. The card itself handles all the problems so there is no need for any extra options or anything of the sort.

Then again, you can try going into device manager and "restart" your drives. (In other words Enable + Re-enable). If that doesn't work you can reinstall the drives, followed by an update.

Hi larryjr88. . .

Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - Vista Support!

I would use CCleaner found HERE. Simply download CCleaner, install, Right-click on the CCleaner icon, Select "Run as Administrator", select "Tools" (left side - center), and a list of installed programs should appear.

Typically, CCleaner lists more installed programs than Windows Uninstall Programs does.

Good Luck to you.

I had installed Yahoo messenger a few days ago. I had went into Control Panel shortly after the installation and uninstalled Yahoo Toolbar, which I didn't want. I then decided that I didn't want messenger installed either so went back into Control Panel only to find that it was not listed there. I also noticed that most programs normally found listed in there, such as MSN messenger, NHL07 & Spysweeper just to name a few, are also no longer in Control Panel yet each program works just fine. There are only very few items still remaining in there. And again this happened immediately after uninstalling Yahoo Toolbar. My question is how did this happen, and how can i get Control Panel to list these installed programs again?

I do not know whether it should be like that or not but I find that Control panel >Programs and Features do not list all sizes for my installed apps. For example Office 2007 and many others have no size listed. Is that normal?

Answer:Control Panel not showing sizes 0f installed programs

Hello Patmos,

Yep, it's normal. If the uninstaller file from that program did not include this information, then it will not be displayed. It was the same in Vista as well. Have to blame the program publisher for this one.

I just got a Wacom Bamboo tablet for my Windows Vista Inspiron 1525 Laptop.

After research,

I found that there were programs that you could use with your tablet. (Ex: Windows Journal, and that program that recognizes your Handwriting)

I don't have these (or possibly, any) tablet components.

Yes, I searched for it in the Start menu, but nothing came up.

I even went to Control Panel>Programs> Turn Windows Features On or Off, and the Tablet PC folder didn't even show up.

I also saw that there is a tablet feature on Microsoft Word, and I don't see that, either.

Why? How do I get these components?

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum section, but I needed help with my computer tablet functions.

I recently purchased a Wacom tablet, but when I got home, I realized that I could do any inking. The Tablet PC Input Panel would load, and it would show that Windows Journal is installed (since I enabled the Tablet PC Optional Components), but it won't let me write on the Input Panel. Windows Journal will not load either, as it says "Windows Journal cannot start. There was an error initializing inking components." I have tried removing and then installing the Tablet Optional Components, but nothing has gotten better.

If anyone can help me out with this issue, it is highly appreciated =)

Thanks in advance! (And happy holidays =P)

I also do not have the sticky notes, is this part of the tablet pc optional components?

How do I fix these two problems?

Expand the category for Windows logs and check both the Application and System categories for errors at the time you received the error. Let us know what you've found out.

Sorry, but I'm a total newbie regarding tablet PCs.  I bought a used X41 tablet running Windows XP Pro.  On its bottom it has stickers stating that it has had both original Windows XP Pro and Tablet edition 2005.  I upgraded to 1.5 GB RAM and have installed XP SP3.  My problem is that I cannot figure out how to access any of the tablet features.  Changing the PC to tablet form by manipulating the screen does nothing.  The screen reorient button and all the buttons on the bottom of the LCD display do not do anything. I DON'T have a digitizer pen (yet), but since it seems the screen is not becoming any type of acceptable "tablet," I don't know what to do next.   There is no Mobile PC choice in my Control Panel.  How does one "activate" the tablet features I believe are inherent in Win XP Pro with SP3? Thank you very much in advance for any assistance you can provide. Tom

Answer:How to access tablet features

xp pro doesn't have tablet features.  you have to install windows xp tablet edition to get the tablet features. incidentally, you can put a 2 gig stick of ddr2 ram in there.

My X60 was recently wiped and I have reinstalled all of the drivers, but I can't get the tablet features working again.  I have installed all of the tablet drivers that the site recommends multiple times and they still don't work.  Even a tech support person could not get it to work.  Is there some program that I need to install first to get them to work?  What is not working is the touch screen and the tablet buttons. Thanks

Hi all,

First post here. I've been using, or should I say tweaking win 8 for a few day now and there are a few quirks that I can't seem to wrestle down. I prefer my OS very plain, no effects, animations etc.

The two (or three) features that I'm having problems with right now is

1) Delete confirmation dialog is enabled even though it is unchecked in recycle bin's settings.

2) Aero Peek is enabled even though I have disabled it in Performace Options. If I rightclick at the right far end of the taskbar, peek at desktop is greyed out. If I rightclick the taskbar, and select properties "use peek..." is unchecked.
DisablePreviewWindow in registry is set to 0.
In Group Policy Editor there is no "Desktop" folder.
I ran the bat-file at Peek at Desktop - Turn On or Off in Windows 8, but now I get a tooltip on top of the preview
Since gpedit.msc is not included in this win 8 version I installed it according to this guide: Windows Cannot find Gpedit.msc Windows 7/8/8.1 - Fixed
What am I missing!?

3) Tooltips can't be disabled in this OS either

Answer:Enabled features despite changed settings and regkeys

Do a bing search for 'God Mode for Windows 8', and create a desktop link. It will allow you to change a multitude of system settings, without having to search for the right menu or do all the right clicking and experimenting to find where to do them.

Hello Folks!I'm running XP, with SP2 pack, and when I open the control panel, I can't access certain components- ie. security centre, add/remove programmes, etc. The task manager won't open either, nor will the calculator, or note pad. I've tried system restore, but to no avail- it won't restore even though it was on (I turned it off and now can't turn it back on as I can't access this feature. Everything works fine in safe mode by the way!The computer is running fine and is supported with Avast, Ewido/AVG, Spybot, and I've run Stinger and Windows defender to no avail. Is this a registry issue or a virus/spyware? I have a highjackthis log but it is too long for the post limit and as a beginner, I can make neither head nor tail of! Let me know if that is needed. Please, someone help me! Thanks in advance!Rich

Try repairing XP.Sometimes the system files (those required to run Windows properly) can become corrupted. Here's how to run a check on your system files: ? Click Start; Run. ? In the Run box, type cmd.exe to open the command prompt window.? At the prompt, type sfc.exe /scannow? Press ENTER. If Windows finds problems with the system files, you will be prompted to insert your Windows XP installation CD to restore the files. If no problems are found and the scan finishes, type exit and press ENTER.

Hello all, I just purchased a Lenovo X200 Tablet with enhanced multitouch on the 13th of November when they were having the nice employee sale. I customized the X200 enhanced multitouch package and added a whole bunch of features. I got the camera, turbo memory, 4 gigs of ram, fingerprint reader and the works. The only problem is I don't have any touch features (with my hand) at all. It only detects the digitizer pen. I thought maybe they forgot to install the drivers or something so I tried installing the touch drivers from the Lenovo website (my product number is apparently 7448CTO which is not freaking multitouch from reading on the forums). When I try to enable the Touch features it tells me that it did not detect any touchscreen moreover the tablet did not even come with the simpleTap software which had me really puzzled. Why did Lenovo do this to me?? I need it for university and it took really long to come. I really need those touch features not just the pen. Thanks Cal

Answer:TouchPanel Problem, X200 Tablet with enchanced multitouch - NO TOUCH FEATURES AT ALL

Colferns,I've had a x200 tablet multi-touch for a few months.  Just upgraded to win 7 and having problems getting the multitouch to work.  I wonder if the drivers are not working.  BTW, 7448cto refers to the 7448 model, "Configured To Order" - I know, not very helpful. It is strange, since in XP it worked okay (but not great).  I now look at my Control Panel | System and Security | System Setting and I see half way down the window a category called "Pen and  Touch:". I am dismayed to see "Pen and Single Touch Input Available". I hope some one replies soon with the right drivers.

I have disabled Autorun for years, recently I noticed that anytime I insert a Disc where in the autorun.inf calls for setup.exe to start
this message comes up:
Windows XP Setup -------------------------------------------------------------------------(this is the Title Bar)
Please go to the Control Panel to install and configure system components. ------- (this is the message)
----------------------------------------- OK --------------------------------------------------(ok button to dismiss)

This happens only if setup.exe is in the autorun.inf, if another executable name is in the autorun.inf nothing happens.

On investigating, seems that whenever setup.exe is called in the autorun.inf, Windows starts the
"C:\Windows\System32\setup.exe" instead of the one on the DISC.

I tried to delete the setup.exe is system32, but Windows automatically replaces with another copy from a cache.
I tried a copy from another computer without this problem, didn't work. I tried a repair install, didn't work. Tried a few registry edits, nothing seems to work.

I think I am missing some registry setting so that when the setup.exe starts refers to the one on the DISC, or a way to ignore it totally.

Please help!

When I purchased my Lenovo Y40-80, I was very happy to know that it had a Synaptics Clickpad. I have had great experiences with their trackpads in the past, as their many customization options allow me to make it work just the way I like it. After first using the laptop, however, I was dissapointed to find that the Synaptics Control Panel is a much more minimalistic version than the one I have used in the past, and options such as "Momentum" and the various corner button options are not available. (I know how to enable certain things, such as "Momentum" through the registry, but settings forthe various gestures are beyond my knowledge, and it would be much easier to have a more capable settings menu.)Is there any way to get the more traditional Synaptics Control Panel application? Thanks,John

Hello, I'm part of the IT department for COPCP. I'm in the middle of prepping the new image for our X61 tablets we're about to deploy for our EHR. I've run into a very strange issue. It appears that the Tablet input Panel is twice the height it should be. I can't seem to locate an option to reduce the height of the TIP panel to its correct proportions.  We used the XP restoration CD's to convert the X61 away from Vista, as our EHR does not support this OS. This is a fresh install from the restoration CD?s, so I have to assume this is somehow a default setting.  Any help would be appreciated.

Question: Tablet input panel

I have a x41 tablet user who has tablet input icon covers the entire task bar and is unable to unlock or reduce.  I have tried everything I can find dealing with this issue.  Because it covers the task bar, he is unable to see what applications are running.  We have enlarged the task bar, I have moved the tablet keyboard to the top of the display.  Nothing seems to work.  Any suggestions to correct this will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, An observation, not a question. I wanted to set Thunderbird as my default email client again (after having reset defaults whilst looking for a problem).

So I set it as my default email client in 'System', 'Default Apps'.

This proved not to be the same as using Control Panel, Default Programs, and setting it as handling all file types it could.

(In particular, the first still did not mean Pop Peeper would find a client it could launch, whilst the second did).

I'm wondering if this will prove the same for other programs.

Since clean installing Windows 10 on my Yoga 2 Pro I'm experiencing Store apps to become a complete white useless windows after waking up the device from standby. Further investigation brought up the following perceptions:1) This only happens with Store apps minimized to the taskbar before getting the device into standby; Win32 apps are not affected2) This only happens if the standby is initialized by closing the laptop and NOT manually through the start menu The second one got me wondered. After some puzzling around I remembered that I - as a Windows Insider - some time ago observed that the tablet mode in Windows 10 is initialized even if the screen is almost closed. Back then I tested this also on my installation of Windows 8.1 and came to the conclusion that even there the keyboard and touchpad get disabled by nearly closing the laptop. Back then there was no tablet mode so that it was not noticeable at first sight but could be tested by using the touchpad and keyboard with the screen close to the keyboard. So ymc.exe as part of Lenovo Transition 2.0 seems not able to detect in which direction the screen is rotated. There seems to be some angle at which the mechanism is initialized regardless whether the screen is rotated AROUND the machine for using the tent or tablet mode OR rotated CLOSE to the keyboard. This seems by design.Problem with this for Windows 10 is: It's getting Store apps crashed that are minimized to the taskbar if the option to always switc... Read more

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro: Tablet mode enabled by closing the laptop and crashing minimized store apps

It seems that this problem also mainly occurs if the system is set to get locked automatically after waking up from standby. Note that the default setting for Windows 10 under Settings --> Accounts --> Sign-in options is to not lock the device after waking up from sleep. Without that option turned on the problem described above doesn't occur most of the time. Although even then I see it from time to time. Because this is lowering my security this is just another workaround for this problem.

Hi all, I have recently upgraded to windows 7 (64bit) and now when I  put my tablet into tablet mode, the screen doesn't autorotate and none of the tablet buttons work. In order to rotate the screen I have to right click on the desktop and choose graphic properties/rotation.Interestingly if I press the tablet buttons while in tablet mode and then rotate the screen up to notepad mode within a few seconds the button will perform its function (rotate screen, activate tablet shortcut menu, etc). Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I've tried running system update (4.0) to no avail. Cheers

(I've just tried "preview post" several times and each time it's stripped the whitespace and turned my ten paragraphs into a megaparagraph. I'm going to try pressing "submit new thread" and hope it doesn't do it this time.)

My Wacom tablet's pen has died and I hope to have a new one arriving in a few days but in the meantime I dug out an old Hanvon Rollick tablet which isn't supported under Windows 10 (which I use) but I nevertheless found some Windows 7 drivers for it which people reported working under Windows 10.

The problem is my PC is trying to behave like a tablet e.g. putting that blue teardrop thing on text boxes on Chrome (I'm not sure of its correct name) and when I try to ctrl-click a link, it shows a little "ctrl" label under the cursor and won't open the link in a new tab like it's supposed to and just does it in the same tab.

It takes multiple tries to right-click and open a link and when I hover over the link the cursor keeps rapidly flashing between the arrow and finger icons.

It is very difficult to click minimise, restore or close on Chrome because hovering over them doesn't make them go red and clicking on them doesn't tend to make them do anything unless you try many, many times. It's being profoundly irritating in programs other than Chrome too but those are some examples.

Perhaps the cable got severed when you were turning it around? I've had a Wifi antenna cable break this way on an HP tablet... If it's still under warranty have them check it and replace it if necessary. It could also be a loose connector but there's no way to be sure without opening the screen assembly.

I have only had my X61t for a couple of weeks but, being impressed by my experience so far, I decided today to show off its capabilities to colleagues at work. At first they were all amazed at the tablet functionality and the ease with which I could enter information into Word, Excel, etc. It is no understatement to say that they were amazed (ok perhaps we're not too advanced in the IT world here) Bouyed by my confidence I went into my first meeting with my 'electronic notepad' rather than the paper notepads that the rest of the pre-computer age managers in my organisation like to use. I confidently 'wrote' on my tablet (and inserted text into my Word) my record of the meeting, silently smiling that my notes would be contemporaneous, complete.and the envy of all. Disaster! After less than 10 minutes the entire machine froze solid and I had to force a reboot to restore any functionality at all. After much hilarity from my previously astonished colleagues and universal thanksgiving to the 'good old ways' I crept from the meeting to lick my wounds, regretting that in my enthusiasm I had forgot to even bring a piece of paper with me. There is a serious side to this....... I could have sold at least 20 x61 tablets in 10 minutes this morning. Everyone loved it! Unfortunately, neither my colleagues nor myself now have any confidence that it will actually be reliable in the real world. I know it is a new machine and in the PC world we unde... Read more

Answer:Tablet Input Panel Freeze

I've had what seems to be a similiar issue a few times as have a few other people here. In my case, I would be using it in tablet mode, and at some point when I tried to 'click" something the screen would freeze and/or go all black except for the pointer. I would have to force a restart. I haven't seen a definitive solution but there has been some discussion that the turbo memory (if you have it) can cause instability. My system arrived with ReadyBoost enabled and ReadyDrive disabled. I enabled ReadyDrive, but disabled it when I had problems and heard turbo memory could be the problem. I haven't had the problem again, but to be honest I haven't used it tablet mode enought to say that it won't happen again. If it does I will disable ReadyBoost and see what happens.

A couple days ago the Tablet PC Input Panel became unmovable. I can't slide it up and down the left edge when it's minimized and also, once it is expanded, it can't be moved around the screen. Can anyone help with this?

edit: just discovered that it's a problem with my Wacom Bamboo graphics tablet driver, because I can move the panel using the touchpad of the laptop. So, I will try uninstalling and reinstalling the Wacom driver. I won't need any advice now, thanks.

Answer:Tablet PC Input Panel has become unmovable

Me too, noticed it a few days ago. Has some MS update hit us? can move the panel using a plugged-in keyboard-center stick and with a USB mouse. The Windows Touch Pointer, however, will move any other window but not the Touch Keyboard or Touch Input Panel. When I touch the top bar of the TK or TIP, the pointer seems different and does not "pick up" the TK or TIP. Right-click does nothing. But elsewhere on every other window I try, it works fine.

Have you fixed it, shokan2, and if so, explaining exactly how would be greatly appreciated! I have not discovered anything on Microsoft Support yet. Thanks for sharing 8-)

When I try to write anything in the the Tablet PC Input Panel thing, it just doesn't seem to realize I'm trying to write in it. This is a minor problem but irritating nonetheless. My tablet PC Input panel seems to have lost its formatting - so instead of looking like the standard TIP, it looks like a very basic version without colour and with very basic graphics. The keys are smaller too making it harder to select the correct key in keyboard mode. I don't recall when it happened exactly as I don't always use the input panel. It may have been after I installed Avira, but maybe not. I'd be very grateful for any advice on how to fix this.

Hi, I need to use the tablet PC input panel with three diferent languages (English, French and German). The default language is English, but didn't manage to add French and German to manually shift between each of them when necessary. I don't need the automatic recognization proposed with windows ultimate (an upgrade for $130 ... silly Microsoft). Does anyone know how to overcome this issue? Thanks,Lm

I was curious how do I remove the table PC input panel? If my mouse goes by the bar, it jumps in front of my screen. I hate it.

The latest bios update of X1 Tablet (Model:20GG) breaks the sleep (or hibernation) function. I found the tablet sometimes cannot be waken up by pressing the power button after entering connected standby. The version of the flawed BIOS is1.68-1.21 (N1LUJ30W) After rolling the embedded controller version back to 1.20 (N1LUJ29W), the problem no longer exists.

I have a desktop that runs Windows 8.1. My x220 tablet runs Windows 7. I was thinking about getting a wacom bamboo tablet for my art in photoshop (which I make on my desktop... x220 isn't powerful enough for what I do in photoshop). Then I realized that my x220 tablet is kind of the same thing. Is there anyway I can connect my tablet to my desktop so that when I'm using photoshop, I can use the stylus on the tablet to control what I do? Many thanks in advance.

Answer:Connecting x220 tablet to a desktop to use it like a wacom tablet with stylus

AFAIK, not easily:

I have a Cherry Mobile Alpha Morph that works without problems aside from the fact that, when I undock it from the keyboard, it doesn't detect that it should now be in Tablet Mode. I have to manually go to the Action Center and toggle it there. Same with docking it back. I have already checked my settings and I didn't disable Tablet Mode either.

Anyone have an idea how I can resolve this? I just want to seamlessly dock and undock the tablet and it should switch to tablet or desktop mode respectively.

I don't know if it's relevant but the OS is Windows 10 Home Single Language.

Answer:Tablet mode doesn't get engaged when I undock my Windows tablet?

I would like to know how to enable this as well - In fact, I was hoping to be prompted to change modes when dock/undocking....instead of having to find the setting and toggle tablet mode on/off every time.

Hi. Recently, I have noticed that wifi connection in Tablet mode in my Thinkpad X230 Tablet is significantly slower than in laptop mode. Sometimes, it completely disconnected to the network. I tried to test with Speedtest. net and download a file via Internet Download manager. Both show that laptop mode has significantly higher and better speed connection than does laptop mode.  Does anyone have the same experience as me? Is the antena has any problem??? Thank you. I

When I use the X220 as a laptop I can duplicate the display through my SmartBoard projector but when I use it as a tablet and it is docked I have to turn the tablet and dock 180 degrees so I am not writing upside down on the smartboard;  that means the dock has the cables coming out the front.  I can undock and plug everything into the X220 but the beauty of the dock is that I don't have to!

hi guys i really want to try a windows 8 tablet and i plan to buy it either by the end of this month or by next January. I am confused on what to pick though
First of all, the reason why I want a windows 8 tablet IS because i like the interface. but more importantly, i need metatrader and cTrader in legacy app as im a full time forex trader. I have metatrader in my iphone but you cant seriously compare that with the windows version (no tabbing, no lines drawing, no fibonacci, etc.). cTrader doesnt even exist there.
im looking to replace my macbook pro (which btw i also installed windows 8 on it through parallels virtual desktop) with a windows 8 tablet to support my trading while im outside
So basically I dont need a super i7 tablet or something. However, im curious to know how windows 8 atom tablets perform. I have seen enough reviews and some people says atom tablets perform badly in legacy apps. Question is, how bad is that bad? Does it lag so bad even though i dont need to run heavy apps like adobe? I only need to run these trading apps which btw are very light. You can compare them with MS paint i believe, just with constant connection.
would it do well in atom tablets? I dont want lags when i switch from win8 native apps to metatrader and cTrader.
next question - how does windows 8 tablet on-screen keyboard work with legacy apps? Would i have special gesture to show up the on-screen keyboard or it automatically appears when i touch the screen? I personally dont believe ... Read more

Answer:Help Me Choose My Tablet - Thinkpad Tablet 2, Vivotab, Acer W700, Etc.

I forgot to add one more question. how responsive legacy apps (desktop mode) is to your finger? Do i really need a pen or it doesnt help either? Because acer w700 doesnt come with a pen so it's also a crucial question for me

I think iBall Slide i701 is the cheapest tablet in world (windows) even cheaper than Lumia 430.
Only USD 77$
But i have some questions before i proceed to buy it for my child
1. As it is 16gb tablet but in actual we get only 4gb free space & i have read in reviews that once we update windows & other apps we are left with only 400mb space & we cant install other apps. So is it possible to install software's (.exe) on 64GB memory card which this tablet support ?
I am not talking about APPS, I am talking about .exe files like photoshop, ERP, educational softwares etc.
2. As it is having only 1 USB port so it is possible to attach a USB hub so that we can attach pen drives, KB, Mouse, HDD, 3g Dongel & power adapter at once ?
If anyone of you have used any windows 8/8.1 tablet then please reply.

I am currently on a Dell Venue 11 5130 with a Bay Trail Atom Z3770 and 2GB ram. While it serves the purpose of my usage of office suites and web browsing, I could use a little faster tablet. It would stutter if I have more than 5 tabs open on Edge. But there is nothing wrong with this tablet with a plenty of battery life and nothing broken after using if for close to 4 years now.
I am looking at a Dell Latitude 11 5175 tablet with a Core M3 and 4GB of ram. Is this upgrade worth it? Or should I save some more money to get the Core M5 version for around $150 more? My usage is office word, and youtube.

If you're not going to use 'Tablet Mode', (especially on a Desktop PC), or any other features from the bottom of the Notifications Panel, you can hide them by navigating in the Windows Registry to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell and in the right pane double click 'UseActionCenterExperience' and change the value to 0; close the Registry Editor and restart Explorer.
(All settings can still be accessed in 'Settings')

Answer:Disable Settings Features in Notification Panel

Thanks for the info!

After following a tutorial on how to change my account name for Windows 8, despite having Windows 10, I realised it seriously doesn't work for Windows 10, and now I cannot access Internet Explorer or Chrome (this person put a note saying it doesn't work for Windows 10. At the bottom of the steps).
I cannot even access the Start Menu, or Control Panel, or even the 'Search the web and Windows' at the bottom. Upon accessing Chrome, this message appears: C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe No mapping between account names and security IDs was done. I can survive, since Waterfox, Steam and Hearthstone work, but it is still quite a bother.
The person who made the thread recommends to do a 'System Restore'. However, I am not sure how to do this especially since I cannot access things such as Control Panel.
Please help.

Answer:Can't Access IE/Chrome, Control Panel, and some basic features after acc name change

Which account do you mean, did you change the name for the ADMIN-account or a USER-account (standard) ?
Open a command-prompt and type "Control.exe", this should start the control panel.
Note: i don?t have W10 installed (yet) so i can?t check myself, but i assume it (control.exe) works just as with previous versions.
Renaming accounts is a very bad idea, i know, i have tried that once.....

Hi all,

To start we have three separate installation packages (Windows Installer .msi's) we create. They basically work fine with no needed modifications to work in the Windows 10 World.

Once on the system, we are able to remove 2 of the three from System-Apps & Features, but one just briefly displays an install progress bar and that is it - no error message of any kind. The entry still remains in the listing.

When I check the Event Log, I see nothing more than uninstall failed - not much detail.

If I go to the good old Control Panel, I'm able to remove the installed application in question as hoped.

What is the difference between the two methods of removal? How can I troubleshoot the issue I am seeing trying to remove via Apps & Features? Do I have to set something special in my install package? The thing is, I don't remember having to do anything special and they remove just fine.

Any help appreciated!!

Thanks in advance!!

I have upgraded my X201 Tablet to Windows 10 32bit. As far as I can tell, everything is working, including the WACOM drivers and touchscreen.  Wireless has worked perfectly so far, not sure about Bluetooth as I don't use it. My only issue is that the buttons on the display do not work. The power button located on the display does work. I tried installing the Tablet Button Driver II and it will go through the install but the buttons do not work.  This is the download link: The document claims Windows 10 compatability and was Last Updated :08 Jun 2015. On inspection, all the files extracted are dated from 2012 and when trying to manually run the software Windows throws up an error that the software is not supported on this PC.   I removed and reinstalled and noted that the driver information page when running the installer does NOT have Windows 10 listed as a supported system. My assumption is that the driver that they have linked on the download page is NOT the most current driver and is infact the driver for Windows 7 from 2012. Does anyone know how to contact Lenovo to get the correct driver posted to the page, or know of an alternate source to try and find it?

Hi, I have here a X220 Tablet that seem to have a FAN problem.Often in the last days my CPU temperature is often over 90 CAnd the fan has problem to reduce the temperature.I have also situation that the CPU is going too hot and the tablet switch off! With the CPU tool TPFC.62 I can see that the fan speed is 2300-2500 RPMs.But this seams not enough to be. And now the strange thing:When I disable the graphic adapter ?Intel(R) HD Graphics Family? (Driver and reboot and do the same thing that I done to get the temperature over 90 C with the intel graphic adapter the temperature is not going over 83 C!!! The fan speed is 3500-3800 RPMs. Can someone helps me with this issue?

Answer:X220 Tablet FAN Problem - temperature over 90 °C - tablet switch off :(

Hi giciorek,
I understand that your fan/temperature problems can be frustrating.  I would try updating your BIOS and also updating Power Manager.  (Some on the forum have tried downloading ThinkPad Fan Control, but that is not an official Lenovo solution.)
Download Power Manager here:
Download BIOS Update here:
In Power Manager, click Advanced at top right, you can Set Optimize Fan Control to Balance All Parameters under Battery Settings.  Set it to Reduce Noise Dynamically under AC.
Let me know if this helps.

I just bought my Yoga 2 13, when I flip it to Tablet mode, the screen turns off. Apparently it goes to sleep. When I open it it turns on again. Do I need to do any adjustments? or is this a defect?

Answer:Yoga 2 13 Tablet Screen turns off when in Tablet Mode

Try updating your drivers first: that does not help, try a factory reset:1. Turn off your Yoga 2 132. Press the tiny button next to the power button on the right3. Follow instructions to perform a factory resetIf none of the above attempts have helped you, it is probably a hardware issue.
