I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I have bought Lenovo Yoga 500 14 a month ago. Several weeks ago I started to notice left hinge cracking when opening/closing laptop screen and it becomes louder. If open/close screen a little faster - the cracking dissapear. If do it slowely you can hear hinge cracking even on the video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erCRoJiLjWwWhen I bought laptop I had upgraded memory and hard drive, so I don't know if I still have a warrenty. But this problem defenetly isn't due to me.

Hello i just bought a Lenovo Yoga 13... But at home i recognize that hinges of my Yoga are diffent than each other..one is seems like more metalic but other not. u can see clearly at next photo: Hinges of my Yoga  This is not normal isn't it?

Answer:lenovo yoga 13 hinge problem (different hinges)

man Lenovo needs to get its act together. No wonder bestbuy stopped selling it. No that's not normal at all. Mine look the same but I've recently started to get about 1/2 inch play in the hinges. I can move the screen about a 1/2 inch before the hinges actually move. I'm starting to really wonder about the quality of the hinges. This combined with the fan noise...wow Lenovo.

Hello, I bought lenovo yoga 500 14 ISK on January 2016. After 1,5 years later i aware that there is some problem on the left bottom side (near the hinge) than one week later i saw that screen and back lid seperated from left bottom side and when i look at in i saw that the screw hole is broken from inside and the screw is not tightening the back lid anymore. And my pc never dropped. It is under 2 year warranty and after i sent my pc to Turkey technical service, they said that your actions are completed and when i see the pc right side is broken. I used 7 -8 years lenovo and also2 years work pc laptop Lenovo in very hard conditions and there is no even 1 problem. But my latest pc is falling apart day by day . Some of them are using screen secure holders as a part of the mounting bracket. We are trying to decide is these computers getting abused or is this a factory issue. Thanks

I've noticed a few posts on this issue (lenovo Y50-70 touch screen hinge breaking).  I bought my laptop via Amazon in July 2015 so it should still be under warranty (even though the tech support website says it is not....it also thinks that the warranty started in January 2015).  I, however, have had zero success with contacting technical support for help (I talked to a representative on the phone; she couldn't help me but said I would be called withing 48 hours.  It has now been 168 hours and I've received no phone call; I also submitted a request via the web 72 hours ago and have received nothing.  And I can't get anywhere with the online "contact us" since it won't recognize the serial number of my machine).  Anyone have a phone number or other suggestions?  At this point, I'm very frustratred with (a) the product and (b) the technical support from Lenovo.

Lenovo India is suggesting me to replace the defective left hinge along with the entire body of my laptop amounting to Rs 6000 approx. Since adp is not covered here in India for me coz I got mine from the states. My question here is how has lenovo classified this case under accidental damage even after so many users have complained about this issue. It is clearly a build defect and should be covered under base warranty.please provide a viable reason for me to pay such a hefty amount after spending a fortune on my machine and which clearly shows the shortcomings in the building of this laptop.I got this laptop in December 2015Kindly provide the solution at the earliestRegards,Abhishek

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this but: I had a family member buy me a Lenovo Yoga sometime ago through the Lenovo International website. I had the laptop for sometime and then had to send it off for repairs. When it came back, they had "replaced a faulty hinge" but had rather made a problem where there was none before! (the hinge was fine), upon trying to "convert" my Yoga this fault caused by the repair team resulted in my frame cracking. I sent the laptop off for repairs no problem but was then told It couldn't be repaired so I'd be given an exchange code, when I told them the laptop had been purchased online they told me to contact the Lenovo team by email and see what they say. Since then, after previously being rejected, I once again explained the problem had been caused by Lenovo themselves. Upon this the repair team decided that when my laptop reaches me, I am to send it off for repairs once again. I am in desperate need of my laptop and its been months since it has been broken, I had to get through my university exams with a half broken laptop and have now been without in a time where I desperately require it.  I don;t understand why all the mixed messages and why they;re taking so long in their attempts to replace it when they could hvae quite easily replaced it, leaving me, a paying customer pleased with their service.  TLR: Laptops been sent for repairs for so long now after a fault caused by Lenovo repair team. I bought a new Lenovo Yoga 500 in Octomber 2015. Treated it carefuly especially when manouvering the lid. Since about one or two weeks ago the right hidge started creaking while the laptop is in laptop mode. The sound appears at every move almost now and it got way more often. However once switched into any of the other modes the problem ceases. Is there any solution to this problem ? What could be the cause? All the rest is working fine. The sound is incredibly disturbing however.

Hi,I got some problems with hinges on my yoga 13.3 (i5,8gb ram). One of them just started cracking while opening. The notebook was in ideal condition (no scratches and e.t.c.) and i decided to give it on guarantee service in Saint-Petersburg.Then i have a recall from a manager who said that this kind of problem is not a guarantee case anyway (even without any defects) and the additional expertise is needed. After about 1.5-2 weeks they (Lenovo service SPB managers) said that the cost of the repair is about 12000rub (210$) and i reject this proposal. So I have some questions.1.Is it true that such type of repair is not guarantee case anyway (just crackling).2.Is this value for 1 hinge is real?3.Are guarantee seals still on their places after such diagnostic in official service center?Thank you in advance!

Hello Lenovo community! I had a Lenovo G50-70 earlier, and after about 12 months of not-rough usage, its hinge started having problems, and I had to press it on the left side to prevent a loud cracking noise (which made my heart burn btw). After searching this issue, I noticed that there were many people with the same problem on Lenovo forums. When I took it to a local repair shop, the repair guy told me it was very frequent with "cheap quality Chinese" Lenovo laptops. Somehow I managed to sell it to someone for a sub-par price, and don't know what got me, but here I am, having another Lenovo laptop. This time a Yoga 500 series. Now I am being a lot more cautious while opening and closing the lid of the laptop (doing so by opening the lid from the middle and keeping the bottom half pressed). Still, similar complaints on other Lenovo Yoga laptops are scaring me to hell. Is there somehow I could at least delay this issue so that the hinge lasts as long as possible? Thanks.

Hello,  I've just now (tried to) updated my base warranty for my Lenovo Yoga 2 11 Laptop I purchased last year (it's still under general warranty). It's been a good laptop. Except last week I had difficulty opening and closing the laptop without there being resistance in the hinge. Despite being very careful, this weekend the hinge snapped and it became very loose. I've opened up the laptop and was able to remove the hinge itself (on the right side of the laptop), this is what it looks like. I believe the correct part number and details are the following: 90204923 Vienna Hinge R+L MISC INTERNALCan anyone confirm whether the replacement of this part will fall under the general warranty?Worst case, it at least looks like the part is purchaseable here in the UK but if I could get it shipped from Lenovo under warranty or at least at-cost I would be very happy.  Thank you very much.

Question: Left Hinge problem

We have purchase our HP Envy TS 15 from Costco online about 3 years ago. The warranty has expired. About couple of months ago I saw the left hinge seperating from the casing. It makes a clicking sound when the screen is closed/opened. I am not sure if may be getting worse. But today, not sure if this is related but I realized the battery was drained and although the computer was plugged, it was not charging.  After reading numerous other posts on this hinge issue, I wanted to see if HP can provide a path forward to resolve the issue and repair my computer. Thanks for your time, Alp

Left hinge on laptop is broken.  Everything else works great.  I'm afraid the screen will fall and cause futher damage.  I have to prop it against a pillow or hold it with my left hand so it doesn't fall and completely ruin the laptop. Has anyone else had the same or similiar issues with the left hinge breaking out under normal use?  The right hinge is fine for now but with the left hinge broken, its only a matter of time before the right hinge breaks.  Again, the laptop works great but the left hinge is broken.  Any suggestions or known faulty issue with the left hinge? Thank you for you time.

My HP Envy 17 SE has shown the well-known left hinge error in its hinge area, something consistent with recent complaints in a design flaw. I purchased it in 2014 for my university usage and it's right at that critical point in my Senior year where I cannot go without this dependable laptop. Took it to get looked at and evaluated at a local shop and they said that the needed part to stop the splitting is no longer available. It looks like its an external thing and the left hinge pops. It is horrible to have such a bad issue when the brand is generally dependable but I am sad to say that this happened fairly recently after my warranty expiration. Left hinge pops and it seems like my laptop is now nothing but a glorified desktop. Are there any solutions to this? This brand has been dependable for my family and I happened to get the ENVY's "flawed" design as my university pick.

When I open up the notebook now, the left side rear of the bottom case (below the left hinge) comes apart as the screen is lifted up to a viewing position. I have to press the left side rear of the bottom of the case together with the top side of the case to get the left side rear of the case closed. When I lower the screen, the left side rear of the case comes apart and stays apart until the screen is shut. I am able to close the left side rear of the case by pressing the top and bottom of the left side rear of the case together. The right side hinge and the right side rear of the case do not have this issue. This problem has started today. I have smartphone pics I can send if needed. The notebook and screen is operational. Just not sure what is going on with left hinge to force case apart on the left rear side of the bottom panel.

I have had my laptop for only 2/3 years and had no problems but it's frustrating it's happening now because I'm in the middle of exams. I have searched this thread and people have had similar problems. After a couple of seconds the screen starts turning white and I have to physically push down the left side to get any response. The right hinge broke on my ENVY m6. Now the left one is about to go. The waranty is up and I have noticed that this is a common problem with this product. I should hope that there has been a recall on this. HP should at least repair the issue free of charge (waranty or no waranty). I take great care of my things and my computer is no exception. Please give me advice on this one. I am extremely disappointed at this point.

I have to report also 3 issues with my Lenovo Ideapad U410:1. WI-FI issues since I bought the notebook, end of February 2013.    - I tried updating the wireless drivers, but did not help.2. Left hinge detached from the lid 3 months ago.3. The LCD screen remains black after starting the laptop, it takes several reboots to eventually display the image. The left hinge detached from the lid apparently because of poor design, the plastic keeping the screws in place broked in small pieces... There are still pieces of plastic around the screws... No way to place the hinge back, unless passing the screws through the LCD lid... Being a desktop support technician, A+ certified and Dell technician certified, I supported IBM laptops, then HP laptops, and now Dell laptops. Never had this kind of issue with other laptops. I have an 16 inch HP laptop since 2008, and still no issues, also WI-FI works wonderful. I bought the U410 to have a smaller notebook, as the HP is much biger, thicker and much havier, but unfortunately after only 2.5 years of use, I cannot use the Lenovo Ideapad U410 anymore. I would invite Lenovo to replace the lid, fix the display issue, and also fix the WI-FI issue. Thank you for reading this.

The left Hinge is pulling the upper portion of my wife's computer off , as the very heavy touchscreen applied too much torque to the notebook case . I have read in the forums that is is a very common issue with this model. My il-laws bought the same computer for my wife and her brother, and the same thing has happened to both computers. Is there any way this can be fixed? I have seen in the forums than many other people have this same problem, but I have not seen anyone post anything about any solutions to it. Any assistance or advice would be appreciated.

Answer:HP Envy Touchsmart Notebook M7 J010 Left Hinge problem

As you said this is a common problem with HP Envy's. I pulled apart my laptop to replace the fan in it and having the same problem as you j decided to take a look at it. What it was was a broken Skrew Hole (Sorry I'm having a mind blank) but where the skrew connects to the motherboard has been broken. This is a small peice of plastic. There is no real way of fixing this however there is actually a skrew right beside that one. Apart from when your moving the screen and the look of it, it woint damage your computer and nothing will come falling off it e.g screen, surround. I'm sorry but that's all the information/advice I can offer

I am too facing the same issue of the hinge on my inspiron 5547 when i checked with the dell team they say  its not covered under my warranty.
When i further analysed the issue the problem is as follows
1. The hinges are strong made of steel  but the base which fixes them to the front panel are plastics.
2.The nuts are moulded into plastic and fixed with screws which makes them break after our normal day to day usage.
3.I assume this has been overseen in the design review .
Can any one please advise how you got this fixed ?

Good Afternoon, I recently bought became an acer user after I found this Aspire laptop that had everything that I wanted at a reasonable price. But after just a couple years the left side near the adapter plug in began to crackle everytime the screen was open and closed, slowly on the same side the plasitic became more and more separated, until recently this was not a major issue but as time wore on that small gap has become so wide it seperates the whole computer in two causing my the port that the power cord is connected to has fallen deep inside the laptop. As I begin to research this problem I came to find that this was something that has happened to almost every acer laptop no matter the price or type, now my question is since this is a manufacturers problem shouldnt ACER fix this issue without any cost to the customer since it is something that should have been fix in design phase? I find this perplexing because I have owned other laptops that I have droped (I have never dropped this one) that has NEVER split open. PS if you do not believe me research for yourself. most of these malfunction happen before a years usage

Answer:Acer laptop LEFT side Screen hinge Problem

Hi, It is unfortunate to hear about the issues you're having with your case and opening the lid to your laptop. I would recommend having the machine serviced.

I can assure you that a far larger portion of Acer laptops do not have this issue. A lot of research, time and developement go into the area around the hinges to minimize issues, but laptops have had these issues for 20+ years. The hinge is a common component that produces a lot of stress. While we do measure ourselves to others, a quick google search replacing Acer for another manufacture is sure to produce the same results.

Very frustrated with this...I opened the laptop gently as I would always do  and the hinge on the left side of the laptop just snapped and popped out of the plastic monitor frame.  The design of the hinges are just terrible and i can now see how they work because the case has been damaged just from opening and closing the laptop.  I can now see inside the whole left side of the case.  To top it off I have already invested considerable time into upgrading the OS to Windows 10 and customizing and installing software on this laptop. I cannot close my laptop entirely since the screen closes on an incorrect angle. Since I am out of warranty, is there any way to fix this problem? After reading several posts, it seems to be a common problem with the envy models.

Dear all, I appreciate a lot if you could guide me to solve the problem on my touchpad with respect to left and right clicks. Just a remark that one and double left clicks work well for making a selection on a word, but I cannot do the right click or select some text using left click and swiping. Nothing happens when I click them. This issue started recently; might be related to installing my anti-virus program; I´m not sure... Hope this issue is finally solved...Thanks a lot in advance for your help !K. Bulut

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 11S left/right click are not working

My Yoga 3 Pro also has touchpad issues. I typiclally only L-click, tap(L-click), and R-click. I disable all synaptics features except the 3 I mentioned( L-click, tap(L-click), and R-click). Ok, Here is what I know after upgrading to Windows 10.Using Synaptics Generic IC2 driver Or Lenovo Synaptics Win10 Drivr or the Windows 10 Update Driver, R-click button acts as L-click and R-click simultaneously. When I uninstal Lenovo's driver and Synaptics driver and the Windows Update driver, then hide the Windows Update driver using a Microsoft tool for hiding updates, it works using Microsoft Windows 10 drivers just fine for me (No 2 finger/3 finger/4finger/whatever other multi-touch stuff). I have tried 2 finger tap to R-click, but L-click occurs at the same time as the R-click function. So. Currently I am using the native Windows 10 driver. No Lenovo Synaptic/No Generic Synaptic, and hide the Windows Update Synaptic Update and it works for me at this moment for a touchpad that works like a mouse. As far as multi-touch, I give up. Any suggestions, fixes, ideas are appreciated. Kirk

does anyone know if there's a way to make the touchpad left/right click hard buttons easier to click? my fingers hurt after using the touchpad for an hour

Answer:Lenovo Yoga Touchpad Left/Right Click Hardware Button Sensitivity

I would suspect that the hard buttons of the touchpad cannot be changed as a mechanical attribute of the hardware. However, I might suggest that the hard buttons of the touchpad may not have to be used very often given the existence of touch alternatives. For example, I'm sure you use the left-click tap gesture often, but also a right-click gesture of simply tapping two fingers anywhere at once may be used instead of having to press the hard button from the bottom-left corner. Additionally, dragging may be accomplished with a double-tap and hold gesture on the touchpad. For instance, to move a window on the desktop, simply double-tap the window title bar but keep a finger down after the second tap. From there objects may be moved/dragged as if a physical button was held. So perhaps with the touch-only drag and right-click gestures you may rely less on use of the hard buttons, and save some strain on your fingers..?

Dear Support, I bought a Lenovo Yoga 500-14ISK a few days ago. Evereything is fine except the touch screen. The right side works properly, but the left side doesn't detect any touch or gesture. i've tried to uninstall and reinstall the HID components, but unfortunately it didn't helped. Then I've searched any touch screen driver on the Lenovo support site for this device, but I've found nothing. Have You any idea to solve this or should I have to send it to a service partner?Operation system: Windows 10 64bit Thank You in advance,Zoltán

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 500 touch screen left side doesn't working

Hi G1zda ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would a factory reset be an option ? be sure to back up your files first .
Was there any incident of accidents specially on the non functioning side.

Try the touch features on the One Key Recovery Screen and check if there is ripple or would response on both sides .
To access the One screen Recovery :
When the computer is off, press this button to start the Lenovo OneKey Recovery System (Novo Key item 3 page 13 )and choose System Recovery  and check any touch response ( just for testing purpose and no need to continue the OKR factory reset since it would delete everything .

If same issue specially if factory restore can be done , then best to call in tech support for recommendation or your service partner .

Update us how it goes.

When scrolling with the index finger on my right hand I will regularly hover over and lightly touch the left button with my left index finger in anticipation of the link/button/text box etc that I am about to click on. I have always done this an never encoutered any issues on the numerous laptops I have owned and used in the past). When I do this on my newly axquired Lenovo Yoga 900 it causes the mouse pointer to lag momentarily. I have updated drivers (v19.0.17.57), I have turned off ALL Multi-Finger options (2-finger, 3-finger and 4-finger) and reduced Palm Tracking to the minimum. Is this behavior isolated to me, or are other experiencing the same behavior? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi I have a question about the hinges on my Lenovo Z51-70 I brought the product new from an online retailer end of Nov 2015 and had a problem with the hinges making a noise (creaking/cracking) noise from the start, As it was close to xmas and I thought it was just a teething issue.  IE they had been over tightened and would loosen up overtime I left it till end of December. I have since been told that hinges are not covered as they are cosmetic items and because they have damage the plastic casing internally I will have to pay for this. There was another issue with the lenovo (the harddrive failed), but have been told they will fix this free of charge. The problem I have is that I have legal rights as a consumer and the item was not fit for purpose on delivery. So how do I get to this fixed free of charge as this damagewasnt done by my mis-use and the item is under 6 months old and would be cover by the Sales of Goods Act. IE faulty when brought Please help as I need to know if the hinges were too tight at the manufacturing stage and when I recieved the laptop it would cause unnecessary wear and tear (durability) on the plastic casing causing it to become damaged.

Dear Mr Mark,  I bought my dream machine Y-510 after years of savings in India, despite my extreme care one day while opening the lap a jerk sound came and right side hinge came off, I was literally shattered as I have used up all my savings for this machine and at last the fate like this. I contacted the authorised service centre in India they told its a common problem in Y-510 nothing can be done as warranty has lapsed I have to bear the expenses to the tune of Rs 21000/-. As I was moving to Singapore in a short period and the amount to hefty to bear I left as it is.  From this forum it was learnt that as it was a design flaw Lenovo has been gracious enough even to repair out of warranty machine. As advised by you in the forum Once again I contacted the customer care in Singapore  they directed me to the service centre I visited the service centre they told they have direction on this nothing can be done All that can be done is I have to bear the cost of repair or else I use the machine as a desktop as  there is no other problem. Its really shocking how a responsible company like Lenovo address the design flaws like this???????????

Some time ago hinge in my laptop started to break, so I used an adhesive tape to hold it. It was fine, but it started to fracture. I thoughtlessly cut tape to see what is going on and accidentally broke it even more. Then I closed the lid, oppened again and  my screen has stopped working. I have tried to don't damage the wires inside while oppening, so I think this is caused because of the broken detector of position of the lid. The hinge can not even raise the screen. Now I am going to buy new hinge and replace it, but I don't know how to replace it without dealing even more damage, fix the wires are damaged and where I can find a cheap one. Using this laptop through HDMI is really unconfortable, so I want to fix it.

Hi, I have a lenvo g460 laptop and just resently i have had an isssue with my g460 laptop hinge. Last week I flipped my computer on and i noticed my hinge had broke off and was now bending and pushing my laptop case. I took a closer look and noticed that my screw that held the hinge had fallen off and disapeared. I then tried taking a screw out from another place in my laptop and putting it into the hinge hole. However, the screw did not hold. So then i tried again and this time with a peice of string attached to the screw and figured that the threadeding  of the hole that the screw went in had depresiated. So this time i tried to put the screw in the hole with crazy glue, however that did not work either and the hinge kept on bending the laptop case...... So.... I was wondering what else I could do to fix that issue, cause my 1 year warrenty has reasently experied, and due to some policy, I cant extend my laptop warrenty.... Thanks,            Rajat  Also for a temp fix i am now holding my hinge together with a paper clip which seems to be working

Recently I have noticed that the hinge of my Y50-70 is slowly opening. Pictures here.  It is a known issue of this model that the left hinge is plauged by a design flaw, which will sooner or later cause the screen to crack/whole hinge area to break/whole screen to dangle on its right hinge only. I seek advice on how to loosen the left hinge nut, as I have read that this would fix the problem I'm facing. Would this prevent any future damage to the laptop caused by the hinge? Could anyone post a step-by-step video detailing how I should loosen this hinge nut and also how to put the laptop back together after that? Please and thank you! PS: I have done a lot of research online but have come up inconclusive on whether loosening the left hinge nut is effective in preventing any future damage. I also failed to find a clear video detailing how to do this. I have never in my life taken apart a laptop.

Answer:Lenovo Y50-70 touch hinge problem.

hi Shanthan211,

Your problem might be similarto this and this thread.

There was an investigation that was done about the hinge problem and this should be covered under warranty if there's no sign of customer induce damage (i.e., if the damage is within the hinge only then it should be covered) but I recommend you contact the lenovo helpdesk as your system may need to be evaluted for the defect.

If you're currently residing in India and you purchased the machine there, this is the number to call:

I've had a problem with one of the hinges on my laptop for aprox. two months, and I'm still waiting to hear back from Lenovo about it. The problem is that the plastic by one of the hinges has started coming up after it appears the hinge cracked. Now I've taken very good care of the laptop, having had it around 2 1/2 years.  I'm really unhappy about this because I don't want to have to fork out on repairs, and it feels like a waste of money to have bought a laptop which hasn't lasted me because of this simple problem. As a student I like being able to take my laptop around with me to complete work and at the moment I can't because of the possibility of making the issue worse. I was considering purchasing another laptop, but again, I don't want to get another Lenovo and have this issue, and this cost me around £500 when I first bought it and I don't want to have to buy another for that amount so soon, especially if it's not going to last.  Help please?

Answer:Lenovo Z580 Hinge Problem

Hi nyxx,  Do post if Lenovo gets back to you, I am having the same issue as you on my laptop. By the looks of it, it seems like the hinge has cracked and have had it for roughly the same time as you did.

I really like the Yoga 13...but I HATE the problem that I have with clicking with th trackpad! When I do a quick click of the left button, I hear the audible "Click" sound and feel the button under the mousepad click....but about 1/5 of the time it doesn't register as a click!  This is a huge waste of time and a major issue.  EVERY time the trackpad is clicked it MUST register.  I tried two other Yoga computer at Best Buy last night and both had the exact some problem.  It seems like there is some filtering software or something that is causing it not to register valid clicks? If I press hard...and don't release the click immediately, then it does register....but I shouldn't have to do that when I'm getting the audible click and the button under the pad is definitely registering my click. Anyone else have the same problem?  Anyone know of a fix!!!!!!

Answer:Yoga 13 left mouse click problem!

I had the same issue with my left click on Yoga. The contacts underneath the touchpad probably don't cover the entire touch area well. I just learned to tap it (instead of clicking it) for most needs. Now the only time I have to click it is when clicking and dragging. Synaptics just doesn't make good quality touchpads. I never found their scroll drivers to work with VMware workstation on my other machine. They had implemented it in some crazy way instead of standard mouse wheel type scrolling.

Question: Left Hinge

I have had the HP Envy for some time and expected it to be a premium product by HP leading me to believe that it would be a good long term laptop to use. Unfortanately, this is not the case, after spending a huge sum of money on a laptop I would not expect the laptop to have such a stupid problem, where the laptop seperates from it's casing. After doing some research I have found that this is a regular fault and HP aren't doing much about it. I am giving HP a last chance to contact me as to what they can do for me before taking action myself.

Question: Left hinge

Hi This is about the back cover below the left hinge which pops out around 4 to 5 mm when laptop is opened or closed. After checking, it seems that the back cover area that supports the left hinge is very weak and damages easily. I always thought that every laptop maker has tests which certifies how well a laptop deals with continuous opening and closing. Obviously corners have been cut and quality control have not been vigilant. With the number of complaints this has, HP should do an unconditional recall to redeem their name. I was considering getting a Spectre for my wife but now I have doubts about thier quality and customer focus.

Question: HP envy left hinge

I've read in the forum that someone got their laptop repaired at NO COST?? Even after lapse of warranty? Wow, what did you do to convince HP to do this? I have sent several requests and complaints and a HP rep phoned to ask about it then told me to pay $300.00 for the repair. I do believe a substandard quality back cover which undoubtedly costs very cheaply to make is a good trade of for keeping customers. But it seems HP is more concerned about making money once and not considering about after sales and follow up sales. They certainly lost me and I was considering buying the Spectre but not anymore. BTW I checked an online supplier for the back cover and it sells for $35.00 from China but I prefer to do the repairs myself.

Hi there,I recently ordered an X1 2017 but sent it back for several reasons. One minor issue with it was that the left hinge was slightly crooked. Not by a lot, some might not even notice, but for me not really acceptable for a 2k5? device. Unfortunately it was the first thing I noticed during unboxing. With the lid closed you see that it's not parallel to the rest of the device. Meanwhile I have ordered one again and unfortunately it's the same in terms of crooked hinge. So I'm suspecting a general "problem". Obviously the support team never ever heard of such a thing.Just wondering - how is your's? I don't think I'll do anything about it since I don't think the service team will do a better job than the factory and generally things don't tend to get better by taking them apart. However - just curious if I'm the only one. Cheers, reach

Question: SL400 Left hinge

I got my SL400 2743CTO back in december of 08 and noticed that the left hinge to the screen is cracked but the display still works. Will lenovo repair this or am i out of my warranty? When i open the lid the whole hinge almost moves with the display. The right hinge is holding it on i guess.

Hi,

I have purchased a Lenovo Y560 laptop on 03-10-2010 and  I got this left hinge issue. I was about to close the laptop when I suddenly heard a click sound and after a thorough inspection I found that the left hinge is broken without any reason. I went through a lot of discussions over the internet and I found out that this has been a common problem in this product.

The next day(24-1-2011) I called up the Customer Care India  and I was given a case id and the representative  asked me to go to the Service Centre at Velachery , Chennai ,India. I visited the service centre the next day with the given case id and to my dismay , THE CASE ID WAS IN THE STATUS:CANCELLED. Things I noted in the service centre :

1)They were too lethargic about giving a proper response as how can the case id be cancelled without even the user's consent.
2) When I tried reaching the customer care again , they  gave a new case id for the same issue and the case id : 4270154295 and ONLY then they looked into the issue.
3) After some diagnosis, the technician said  that the product is still under warranty and it needs a part replacement. to my memory , he ... Read more

Answer:Y 560 Left Hinge Issue

I just wanted to report that I'm having issues with my left hinge as well. It's very similar though not identical in nature. Anyway' I had noticed that my left hinge was looser than the right hinge a long time ago, very soon after the purchase. and after I got my machine back from the service center after they replaced my motherboard. I never though much of it, but I decided to investigate this morning. As I was opening and closing the laptop, I noticed that the back of the computer next to where the battery is bulges out a bit when i open the computer, and bends in when I close it. It only happens on the left side. Then, I turn my computer upside down to see if there are any loose screws, and I see a weird piece of plastic in the screw hole where the bulge occurs, and I pull it out. I turns out it's a section of twisty tie, the kind that you use to close your sandwich bread bags. After I pulled that out, the screw straight up just fell out of the hole. There was nothing holding that screw in place except for that little section of twisty tie! Anyway, even with the screw out, the bulge hasn't gotten any worse, and the screen hasn't gotten any looser, which tells me that nothing has been attached to the other end of the screw for a long time now. I'm going to call the service center to see if they can replace the body of the machine, or possibly send me a replacement. I'll update you with any news. Update: So I got in contact with Lenovo and am getting ready to ship my ma... Read more

Question: Left Hinge Broken

I have owned my HP Envy for roughly 4 years now and have had no issues, however, now the left screen hinge is causing the casing of the computer to separate. Several small pieces of metal from the hinge have either fallen out or are rattling inside the computers casing. The computer is no longer under warranty, but I have noticed this issue is a common one for HP laptops of this period. What can be done about this issue? Can HP repair this if the computer is sent in?Thank you.

The left hinge of the laptop is causing the bottom case to pop off. Whenever I open the notebook, the black bottom portion of the laptop separates from the top grey portion, exposing the inside of the laptop. When I close the laptop, the bottom case snaps back into place.I have had this laptop for over three years, with no other issue. Is there anything HP can do to resolve this hardware problem? Thanks

Question: Broken Left Hinge

My left display hinge is also acting up and the left corner seems to be coming apart from the force being applied by the hinge especially as the display is hinged down to its closed position.  I've been suspecting something was weird for some time now but recently I'm afraid it will break soon, what can be done?  My laptop is out of warranty (bought from Costco) but otherwise is in perfect condition and I use it daily.  It is crazy this is happening.

Question: Broken left hinge

I have had my Envy for about 2 years. The left hinge has broken and when I went to have it repaired, I was told it would cost over $300! This same thing happened to the HP laptop I had previously that this new one replaced! The repair place told me is was the exact same thing that happened to my old laptop and that it was a common issue! Why hasn't there been a recall? Obviously this is happening constantly! Does anyone know how to fix the issue?Thank you

Question: Left Broken Hinge

I haven't had my HP ENVY TS 17 Notebook but a little over 2 years and my left hinge has broken. I took it to a computer tech and he said you guys do not have a recall on this issue nor do you have any intention of solving the issue. I can not afford to buy another laptop and this is the 6th HP I have owned including desktops. I will not buy another one unless this problem is taken care of. I would like some feed back on this as I see there are numerous people with the same problem. Thanks!

I am having an issure with the corner of the base of the laptop seperating near the bottom left of the screen (near the hinge). When the laptop is opened, the piece pop apart. When I try to snap them back together, they pop back apart as soon as I let go. I have been looking on the forum and it seems that this was a common problem. I am concerned because I do not want it to break as it was not a cheap laptop. Can anybody help with this issue?
