Toshiba Satellite L500-13C - motherboard totally damaged

Question: Toshiba Satellite L500-13C - motherboard totally damaged

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite L500-13C with a motherboard totally damaged, and despite it is an old PC, I need it for the University. So I want only to know what is the serial number of this motherboard (if it exists), or the Motherboard model that are compatible with my pc, in order to buy it on Internet, because in the shops the cost are really excessive. Sorry for my English.

Preferred Solution: Toshiba Satellite L500-13C - motherboard totally damaged

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Both usb ports on my L500 laptop have physically broken.
The plastic middle piece inside the usb ports have come loose and are now not working.,

Do you think Toshibe will repair them under warranty as it is only 11 months old or will they insist it is accidental damage and refuse to fix them.

thanks

Answer:Satellite L500 damaged usb ports - repair under warranty?

Hi

I doubt the warranty will cover this damage?
USB port plastic cover cannot damage without usage of any force...
I think the Toshiba ASP technician could replace this and fix this but you will need to pay for this service?. Unfortunately :(

But this is mu personal opinion? ask the ASP technician to get more details?

Good luck

Hi,
I cannot get my Toshiba Satellite L500 13T PSLJ3E to work. Here is the timeline:

1. I brought it with Win Vista, It worked great for about 6 months but started slowing down and I decided to change it to Windows 7

2. I installed the Windows 7 using custom install(creating new "windows" folder, not upgrading Vista). Once again it worked great for about a month, but once again it ran into trouble - showing the Windows 7 version of the blue screen of death for 0.5 seconds followed by a restart.

3. I browsed the net and they said that the easiest way to get rid of the problem is to re-install. I did it(after trying several windows repairs) but yes, thats right, it died - before starting the windows it showed problems with Realtek Wireless.

4. I had hopes that third time - the charm will work and re-re-installed the W7(every time using new installation).
Once more time - doesnt work, but this time I cannot even get to install it - the windows installer stops at around 60% of the expanding files and says: problems with the media device. And after the restart I cannot find the Hard Drive(the BIOS shows only FDD and CD/DVD)

Now I'm stuck here, the only way to start the windows is by Safe Mode on my Wondows installed on point 3, yet not every time .
Unfortunately the first of my Recovery DVDs cannot start and on top of that I cannot enter into the recovery partition by pressing 0 at start up, but I see the Recovery Partition when I go to the WIndows in... Read more

Answer:Cannot run the OS on Toshiba Satellite L500

Blue screen and then restart sound's like something with hardware is wrong. I had something like that when my RAM module failed. Check your memory using memtest.

PS. I will not recommend installing windows on windows and reinstalling it. Better format drive and install new clean OS.

edit: or maybe something with your hard drive - if you had an option pull out you hard drive and check it on another computer using HDtune (or something like that)

Hello!

I've bought Toshiba Satellite l500-1ef November, and until now laptop worked brilliant. Three-four weeks ago, touchpad, and some space on the left of the touchpad started to be warm. I checked CPU temperature in Toshiba PC Health Monitor (v 1.4.1.64), and it was circa 30%, with 40% use of the cooler. The temperature is incresing in time, and now, after four weeks, touchpad is warmer, and it's about 45-50% temperature od CPU, with 50-60% use of the cooler.

I'm using laptop only for Internet, work in MS Word, and listening music, sometimes I play Warcraft III on it, I've got Windows 7.

Should I go with PC to technical support, or it's normal in my model?

Best regards,

Answer:CPU temperature in Toshiba Satellite l500-1ef

Hi mate

It?s nothing unusual that the touchpad would be warm since the CPU and cooling modules are placed near the touchpad.
So in my opinion you should not be worried about that.

The notebook?s temperature can increase after some time of usage?
This happens due to dust inside the cooling ventilators?
If you want, you can try to remove the dust using the compressed air spray?
I do this from time to time and this helps to keep the temperature on lower level?

Hi, I bought Toshiba Satellite L500 -00W and it came with Windows Vista. I tried to downgrade to XP, but it doesn't allow XP installation. Do you know how to downgrade?

Thanks!

Answer:Toshiba Satellite L500 -00W downgrade to XP

Hello & Welcome, toshibaquestion.

Downgrading from Windows Vista to Windows XP is actually a very easy thing to do, BUT, I must warn you; it's the smartest of ideas since Windows XP and Windows Vista differ in driver capability and efficiency. So when you want to you use your MIC or Webcam, they may not work, this goes for your Audio, Network and even Display.

Also, Toshiba's a popular brand, and also a very updated** one, meaning they'll most likely be packed with a webcam, nice wireless card, hi-def monitor, etc - meaning, lots more drivers for you to fuss about and have to replace - which, believe me, isn't fun at all.

Downgrading would require you to actually make a partition (D), then install XP on your partition (D), and then delete your previous partition (C) - This is how I would do it, but I'm sure there's many many many other ways.

Dabble into it abit, and see if you find anything interesting. I'll be here to answer any further questions you may have.

Undocked Windy

I have this laptop with 3 Partitions

The main partition got corrupted and apparently wiped so all windows folders have been deleted and a low level format carried out

I still have the recovery sector

Just wondering how to reinstall it back onto the main partition

I tried F8 and it took me to a screen to choose language but after that it said "You must log in to access system recovery options"

I guess user data has been wiped from the main partition ?

Are there any other keys to press on startup to access the Recovery partition ?

Thanks

Hi,

The fan runs inconsistently (always for a few seconds on start-up, very sporadically the rest of the time, but it is completely stationary for the most part.

The computer is currently in pieces, and I am ready to replace the fan with a new one, however im not sure that will fix the problem (as the fan still seems to sometimes run).

No disply on my toshiba satellite L500,power supply led is getting on .

Answer:Toshiba satellite L500 not working, No disply

If you still get lights on the edge of the laptop & you can hear the fan spinning and harddisk clicking a bit but nothing at all is appearing on the display then it's either the screen or the power inverter that have gone. Either way it's not really something you can do yourself, take it to a technician to sort out. If you are not getting any lights, fan or clicking sound then it is a power issue - the LED doesn't necessarily mean that the power supply is ok. Again, not much you can do yourself, take it to an expert."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Pink Floyd

Answer:My Toshiba Satellite l500 cooling fan has stopped working

I would purchase a can of compressed air or use an air compressor (with a light gentle nozzle) and blow the dust out of the inside. If you have a failed cooling fan, then it will need to be repaired or replaced. That model I think is rather old, it may not be worth it to repair.

IN TOSHIBA SATELLITE L500 WHILE USING WINDOWS 7 64 BIT OPERATING SYSTEM ALL FUNCTION KEYS ARE NOT WORKING ONLY F11 IS WORKING AND SPECIALLY WIRELESS KEY ON OFF IS NOT WORKING I AM FACING TOO MUCH PROBLEM ANY CAN HELP REGARDING THIS PROBLEM

Answer:Wireless not working in toshiba satellite l500 in windows 7

For a start, turn off CAPS LOCK - it's considered to be shouting & many will ignore you.Did the laptop come with Windows 7 or have you installed it later? Are you sure there are drivers available for the wireless card - check the manufacturer's website if necessary. Some Toshiba laptops have a separate wireless switch on the front edge - if it's there make sure it is in the 'on' position. The usual key combination, as far as I recall, is Fn and F8 pressed at the same time (not F8 on its own) - there should be an LED that lights up on the front edge of the laptop when the wireless adapter is on."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." OK so i have just received an older laptop that im trying to resurrect.

O/S : Windows 7Model : Toshiba satellite L500 PSLS3A-04M002Battery model NO : PA3534U-1BRS
It died a few days ago and refuses to boot, press the power button -> power LED glows briefly and goes out.
As it's a smart battery you can't boot directly off the AC adaptor because it's expecting a signal over the SMBus (IIRC) power LED doesn't even light up with A/C only with the battery is removed.
I believe it's the battery.
First because i disassembled the laptop, cleaned it, and put it back together, nothing seemed wrong with other system components.
Second, it's only a small 3620mAh Li-ion that (AFAIK) hasn't been changed since the laptop was bought (roughly 2011/2012) so im thinking the charge cycles have been well and truly used up.
OK no problem, searched around online using the battery model number (above), found a replacement

Cool, battery's enroute, should be here in the next few days.

Now the interesting part... When i go on Toshiba's site to look for some specs/drivers... the Laptop model doesn't exist, even under the discontinued models section... But there are a whole bunch of other models :

(click on the little arrow)

Also, there's no live / website or email based technical support :

Hope I've got this in the right place.

Purchased above and upgraded sucessfully to Windows 7 from XP.
However, the sound is very poor quality - sounds "tinny"

This is applicable to CDs, radio and DVDs particularly when listening to audio books and radio making it impossible to listen to. Have tried changing the settings for the Realtek High Def Speakers, but no difference. Then updated drivers. Windows test 'sounds' are okay and sound coming from both speakers.

I think I've tweaked every available setting I can find but can't find a tweak/setting to change the sound (less bass?). I have seen the volume control and it makes no difference.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The HDMI port on my Satellite L500 laptop is not sending information to my sony bravia tv. All was working fine up until a couple of days ago. When i plug the hdmi lead into the port, it seems as if the laptop is aware it's plugged in as the screen flickers. The fn +F5 keys do as they should, but no picture appears on the tv. The tv shows a lead is plugged in also and again the screen flicks to say a source is there but then remains black. I can't see an issue in device manager and all drivers are saying they're up to date. I have also tried a new hdmi lead but nothing. Can anyone help with this?

Answer:Toshiba satellite L500 HDMI no longer works.

Try running a System Restore back to a previous point when it was working.

If still not working uninstall and re-install the graphics drivers from the Toshiba Support site for your model.

What is it with Toshiba? The part number is clearly printed on the label on the underside of the laptop but the corresponding part number appears nowhere on the Toshiba support pages. I don't know where do you want to buy this new motherboard but the store should have compatibility information.

Anyway, as far as I know this K000... number will be used for parts order.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 PSLS0A-019002 with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed that I received two months ago as a gift.

Apart from disliking some the quirky and useless (to me) Windows Vista / 7 features, as the desktop is loading I get the error message "Toshiba Service Station has stopped working" which proceeds to find a solution, but apparently never finds one because this condition repeats itself every time I boot.

On another thread in these Toshiba forums, someone suggested downloading the independent utility called Toshiba Service Station and reinstalling it. I do not see such utility listed on the downloads page for my Toshiba model. Since I don't even know what the Toshiba Service Station does (unless it goes by another name - Toshiba Bulletin Board perhaps?), I have no idea what is causing the error or how to correct it.

One has to switch the computer off and try to restart, sometimes several times before the computer starts up properly.

Could you please advise of the what the problem is and how to rectify it.

Your prompt response will be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Answer:Satellite Pro 6100: screen remains totally blank or totally white

Hi Louis

I think we should firstly try to find out if the problem is related to the graphic card, to the internal display or to the display part!
In such case it?s advisable to connect the external monitor to the notebook.
Check if the symptoms appear also on the external monitor.

If the same will happen on the external display then I assume the notebook?s graphic card malfunctions. But if the picture appears properly on the external monitor then the problem could be related to the internal LCD or the little part like FL inverter.

Check it out?

I received a Toshiba Satellite L655 laptop in May as a gift and I have loved the laptop. But yesterday while just checking email and doing my daily things, it just completely shut down. I have not been able to get the laptop to turn back on. By that I mean than pressing the button does nothing. I don't here the fan or anything.
I am almost 100% positive the motherboard broke. How, I am not sure, possibly from overheating. Anyways, if that's the case then I need to buy a new motherboard. But before I go and spend a lot of money, are there anythings I can try to get this computer to start up again? Also, I can't seem to find what motherboard is in the laptop. Does anybody know?

I replaced the motherboard in my Toshiba Satellite M45, actually i got a near complete bottom,( of my exact model) that came with everything but the RAM, MODEM, HD,Wireless Card! So i put the parts from my old bottom, into it, and attached my LCD, and inverter cables. And when i plugged in the power adapter, i even got the power light to come on! so i went to turn it on, and it starts to power up, but suddenly shuts back off, and keeps doing this until i remove the battery! ive switched out the memory, HD, and battery even. and unplugged the lcd cable from the board, and plugged it in to the external vga, but still nothing! can anyone think of what else it may be, cause im about out of ideas!! thanks a bunch.......J

I spilt some water over my laptop about 2 months ago, I quickly unplugged it and placed it face down, unfortunately due to the design I couldn't immediately eject the battery, I did that around 5 minutes after the spill, I remember as I spilt it, the power button refused to turn off for a good minute, whether it turned off on it's own or me pushing down on It, I have no idea. I opened it up, dried it off and left it dissembled for two days however it didn't turn on so I've left it and decided to look further into it after all this time.

The laptop is receiving power, the power button doesn't work, I've tried a different power strip with no luck, the external parts of the motherboard like the single usb and ethernet port receive power fine, along with the front face led power light which stays on when the power is in, when the battery is plugged in the led turns a subtle red/white colour. I've tried powering the motherboard with all the power strip/external board parts removed and the motherboard doesn't appear to be receiving any power yet the external parts receive power from the motherboard, I tested the two usb's on the motherboard and they don't appear to be getting any power. If my motherboard done for?

When I opened up the laptop when the spill happened, there was barely any water spillage on the motherboard, it was mostly caught my the keyboard and there doesn't appear to be any damage at all to the motherboard.

Hello,

I have a Toshiba Satellite L500-19E and Win XP and I have a big problem. I can?t see the key F8 on the display. The other keys are ok. I can?t explain why because I haven?t changed anything on my Laptop.

Please help me because I need the key F8 to start WLAn and to enter the web.

Thanks
Renate

Answer:Re: Toshiba Satelite L500-19E, I can´t see F8

Hi, dude

As I understand, pressing Fn+F8, it's not displayed. Please, go to the Toshiba driver page <a href=http://smiles2k.net/><img src=http://i.smiles2k.net/lol_smiles/1_011.gif border=0></a>

http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

And update (reinstall) the Vap utility and flashcard support. It should work.

also, try restart Toshiba Flash Cards (start > all programs > Toshiba) and press the FN keys several times

Hi Forum,

I have a Toshiba L500 Laptop that suddenly stopped booting. When I try to boot it, it does not complete the POST process and there is no indication of what is wrong. The screen is just blank.

The fan turns on and I hear it spinning. Also, I momentarily hear the HDD spinning before it stops. I know there is power to the HDD, USB ports and the optical drive.

However, there is no power going to the keyboard as the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK LED does not light up after I press it.

I have tried testing the CMOS battery, changing the HDD and the F2 and BACKSPACE key test without any success.

I am interested to know:

1. In what sequence does the POST process test the attached devices/peripherals?
2. Are there any suggestions as to what might be faulty and how best to fix this?

Your assistance is much appreciated,
Worried

There are 3 external USB ports on this L500 modelPSLS6C-00F005. The one on the front right has developed a problem. Nothing is recognized when plugged in. An unrecognized device error pops randomly even with nothing plugged in to the front port. When the error pops the other 2 ports stop working momentarily. For instance the wired mouse I have connected to the working port will stop, then be re-detected. The trackpad always works.
While running windows 7, I fiddled with drivers, uninstalling/reinstalling USB components in device manager and I disabled the faulty device but the error returns. I found that disabling the usb hub component made the error go away. Unfortunately the other 2 ports are attached to the same hub so I lose all usb functionality.
I decided to try and do a fresh and clean install of Windows 10 in hopes of curing the USB issue but that didn't do the trick. I found I can turn off the annoying error notification and that the error is a bit more descriptive "unknown usb device (device descriptor request failed) driver error.
Disabling the device in device manager seems to lessen the problem but in Windows 10 the device keeps getting re-enabled.
Does anybody have any idea what I might do towards correcting this issue, although I expect it's a hardware problem. Is there a way to permanently disable that one particular usb port?

Hi there,

I reinstalled Windows 7 (from a Windows 7 disk not the Toshiba recovery files).
And everything was working fine, but after restarting once after some updates the mouse and keyboard stopped working!
I found I could get the keyboard to work by pushing the power button to send it to sleep then waking it up, but then the mouse still didn't work.
I can push F2 on the keyboard to get into the BIOS, but can't navigate in it (but can with a USB keyboard.)
Mouse and keyboard don't work in safe mode even.
USB keyboards and mice work fine all the time.

The recommendation is to unscrew the cover over the hard drive and remove the drive. Then replace it and make sure it seated snug. Put the cover back and reboot. Let us know how it goes.

I need a new keyboard for my L500 and found out, that the keyboad of the P200 (and some other models) seems to be the same (105 keys, num pad, 2 win keys). Are those keyboards 100% compatible or do they just look the same?

Answer:Satellite L500 and Satellite P200 - compatible keyboards?

Hi

In my opinion this question is for Toshiba service and not for user-to-user forum.

Anyway I think that both keyboards are not the same and you should order 100% identical keyboard designed for your notebook model.

Question is: why do you look for keyboards for old notebook models if you can order new one for L500.
On eBay you can get it quite affordable.

Hi
Just established in a previous thread that I've got a hardware issue in my PC. Checked everything I can and pretty much narrowed it down to the mobo/processor.

So - I'm looking for a new one. Need to get it asap (preferably want to buy today) as the wife is breathing down my neck but totally overwhelmed & confused by motherboard/chip language!

Firstly - should I buy a whole new motherboard bundle or just a new processor? My fear is if I just buy a new processor and then find the motherboard has gone then I have to go through more hassle so might just be simpler to buy a bundle.

I currently have a Foxconn G41MX running an Intel Core 2 Quad.

I was hoping to stay with Intel, was looking at Asus/Gigabyte brands. My budget is preferably around the ?100 mark.

Generally it's used as my wife's work machine but I do use it for a bit of Photoshop design work when working from home and also gaming (MW2 & ACR) so needs to able to support those easily.

I'll be keeping my GPU (ATI Radeon 5770).

Can anyone suggest any suitable boards I could look at?

Thanks

Answer:Best motherboard bundle to go for? Totally confused!

It would be better to know your location to be able to suggest where you might buy from, I have to say your budget is very restricting. 775 CPU's are getting difficult to find, you should take the opportunity to change.

Just as an example look at this, board,CPU and RAM from the UK but it's ?107 plus delivery and is an entry level kit.

hi there

i've recently upgraded my whole system.

parts are

P4 640 800 fsb
pc5300 ddr2 corsair balistix ram 2x512mb's
200gb sata drive
2xdvd drives
and a abit aa8xe board.

Problem is everything is install correct i push power and all fans spin for 1 second then all go off? so far ive tried resitting the cpu only to find a couple of bent pins on the motherboard. I replaced the motherboard today only to find exact same problem. i've tried replacing the ram with older ddr ram (as board supports both) and dont have any spares to try eliminate any thing else. i have checked for short's. is it possible the cpu is damaged from the older damaged motherboard even tho it's a pinless design.

i cant get into bios or get any display on screen etc. it has puzzled me and im running out of creative ideas

please some 1 help.

Answer:Cpu motherboard problem totally stuck help plz :)

I believe I had this exact same problem building my computer.

Note: I am not responsible for the events that occur after if you choose to do this.

Anyway, when I replaced my mobo, I had a similar or exact same problem.
The only thing I did to fix this problem was to reset the CMOS and use a different power supply if all the fans run after resetting the cmos but still no screen.
After doing this, be sure you have a backup copy of your OS if you need to repair the OS, don't worry, you shouldn't lose your files unless you format.

ALSO, if that solution doesn't work:
Make sure your motherboard is mounted on the metal mounts it came with. OR
make sure you don't have any thermal compound on the cpu pins. OR
Make sure your screws aren't too tight.

hi there!!

I siply put it to l500 but it stacks at a point that shows again and again something about media test and more...

What i'm supposed to do?
Te strange (to me that i'm not very computer guy) is that at bios setting shows the model of the hard disk...
I mean that the l500 recognises the drive...please help me...

thanks in advance..

Answer:HDD swop from Satellite A300 to Satellite L500

Hi

Satellite A300 supports the same HDD like a Satellite L500. Both use the SATA HDD therefore the inserted HDD should work.
Its good sign, that the HDD is visible in BIOS. This means that HDD is recognized and in good condition.

I?m wondering what you have done after the HDD has been inserted.
Did you try to install the system using Toshiba recovery disk or another disk?
Did you try to format the HDD firstly?

Try to boot form the system disk and format the HDD firstly.
Then follow with system installation

I recently installed a new motherboard because my old went died. I put all the pieces back together and things seem to work correctly. After booting up for the first time after all the devices and parts were re-assembled, the machine would not load to windows. The initial boot sequence seemed to go fine but when it got to the Windows XP Home screen, it hung.

I decided to do a clean install of Windows XP Home. I feared my hard drive with the old motherboard drivers was causing some grave problem. I successfully installed windows clean off a newly re-formatted hard drive. I connected to the internet and began the long process of updating windows to SP2. At this point, WIndows XP is fully updated and boots full w/ OUT the motherboard drivers being installed. I rebooted a few times to test and each time, windows loads find in normal mode.

Here's where the problem starts. As soon as I install the motherboard drivers on the CD that shipped w/ my Epox EP-8RDA Pro, it won't boot to windows in normal mode. The boot goes through most of the process but hangs when the WinXP screen pops up. I then have to reboot in 'SAFE MODE' which seems to work fine. I was fixing my PC a while ago, and I installed two new RAM sticks because I'd concluded the RAM had been causing an issue(System Lockup, this happens on both Linux & windows so it's not a software problem). This lasted for about eight hours than the symtoms of the problem before began to occur again. I than took these RAM sticks and installed them into another Computer where the same symtoms became apparent.

Dear all,
I recently emigrated to Germany, Hamburg. To transport my desktop PC (plane) I dismounted the GPU, hard disks and wifi card and packed all in the original boxes. I bought a bigger box than the desktop, and left the CPU, it's fan, motherboard and the other fans mounted, but all cables disconnected and fixed at some nice position. Everything was fine except for the CPU fan, which apparently was not so well attached. When I unpacked everything, the fan was at the bottom of the PC box and I feared that it might have damaged the mother board during the trip. After mounting the computer here in Germany, everything was working fine. But after 5 days, when I turned the PC on in the morning I had no sound!

I tested the headset on another device and it works fine. I have tested the sound of the computer on windows 8.1 and Ubuntu (dual boot) and the problem remains. I have tested to reconnect the audio cable (for the front jack) and reinstalled audio drivers more than once. I noticed that the back panel results in absolute no sound, and in the front panel intense static is heard and a bit of (whatever sound I am putting) can be heard.

1- Might the fan have damaged the motherboard's audio? But if so, why only on the 5th day did this start...?
2- I am considering going to a PC store in Hamburg (I'm new to town so I don't even know good places...) to pay at least 50? for them to check the PC. Although, if the motherboard is damaged, I wonder if they will... Read more

My laptop suddenly doesn't turn on and shows no indication of being charged.
Last thing that happened when I turned on my laptop was the showing of my home screen dimmed for a second and then it flickered off.

Only two things could be the reason for me:
1.) I spilled a bit of water on the keyboard, but after cleaning it off, was still using the laptop for an hour or so.
2.) It was incredibly hot today, and the laptop was left in the car for a bit.

I've opened up my laptop and removed the battery. I did find very minuscule amounts of water on the plastic sheets put on top of certain parts of the laptop's main board. Putting the battery back in, a small led indicator light will flash and pressing the power button that light will flash. As of now, I have the laptop unplugged, battery removed completely, and have held the power button for 30 seconds to completely discharge it. What should I do now?

You should be able to pickup a PSU tester cheap from most computer shops. That or take it in to see if it checks out. That is assuming that you have it plugged in correctly now into your system and it isn't firing up.

Hello

Ever since yesterday I have been having problems with my computer, I tried to get cpu temp down with my orbII cpu fan but when i turned on the computer after administering more thermal paste the D-bracket said that my processor was either damaged or installed wrong so I then put the Stock fan on the cpu (p4) after taking the paste off with bit of rubbing alchol.

It seemed to work fine untill today when it said my harddrive was corrupt so I ran the chkdsk and it said my harddrive had been repaired but when I rebooted i couldnt copy and paste from the webbrowser and the applications were not appearing on the taskbar.

I then went to repair windows but it got stuck on 37mins so i rebooted and the same thing happend, stuck on installing devices 37 mins remaining.

I then rebooted and am currently formating my computer and installing a fresh copy of windows.

I have only had my processor about 4 days same with the motherboard and windows was last installed last week on friday.

Could it be that the reason it isnt working propely is because when I last installed windows I did a quick format and not a proper one or is my processor damaged? or my motherboard.

Answer:damaged CPU or motherboard?

if your PC turns on and beeps it should be fine. Just do a complete reformatt and it should be fine. Oh yes.. and there is a such thing as to much thermal paste, your meant to have about .5 of a mm thick layer over the dye of the cpu.

I think I have damaged my motherboard - I was trying to clone a 2.5" hard disk as an upgrade for my laptop, and managed to connect the drive incorrectly to the IDE asaptor I was using. Net result is that system setup is now unable to recognize any hard disk I connect to the IDE cables, though CD/DVD drives are OK. I've tried both IDE sockets, different cables, different drives, etc, etc. So pretty sure the motherboard is damaged in some way. Luckily my normal drives are SATA so ok for now.

But my question is (unless someone has a magic fix for the above) - how do I work out what motherboard to purchase as a replacement? The system is a Dell Dimension 4600 with a 2.6GHz P4 cpu. The motherboard has the following number on it - DS/N CN-02Y832-4811367-01S0 (and AA C23142-306).

Is there anything else I should bear in mind? Will I have difficulty getting the XP license to transfer OK?

Answer:Think I've damaged motherboard - how to replace?

You'll have to get the exact same motherboard, which means going back to Dell or buying one on eBay. Putting non-Dell boards into a Dell can be tricky and you are not allowed to use the Dell Windows XP license with anything except the mainboard that comes or is an approved replacement for the system.

But have you tried to clear the CMOS? There should be either a button, switch, or jumper to do this. Check the Dell site. And make sure the IDE just isn't disabled in the BIOS or set to None as that can happen.

You can also add a PCI IDE controller card to replace the IDE on the mainboard.

Last night I installed an Asrock 939dual board in a new case. In the manual it says not to use 3.3v agp cards because it can damage the motherboard. So I look up my agp card (geforce4 440mx) and find it's a x8, so has to be 1.5v right? So I think everything's ok. When I install this board and switch on, I get a slight crackling noise and a small puff of smoke from the agp card.

OK, I know that card is finished, but do you think I've damaged the mobo? It was an old video card so might have just died on its own right? There are no burn marks on the mobo. Would be gutted if that's gone as well. Could I have damaged the cpu or ram as well?

Thanks for any insight!

Answer:Motherboard damaged by agp card?

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

It is possible that your mobo/cpu has been damaged.

However, without trying a different video card you won`t find out for sure.

I am trying to figure something out My router is out in the living room, in my bedroom I have 2 different laptops setting side by side, my Toshiba wifi strength says "Fair" and the laptop right next to it says "Excellent" and has full bars. I have been noticing deteriorating performance for a while.

I searched online and saw a post saying if you open and close your laptop a lot (which I do) it can wear out the wifi wire because it goes through the hinge. I have already updated the drivers for the wifi so that's not it.

Has anyone ever heard of this? If it's true it sounds like a hard fix. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi guys,
I have a hand-me-down PC that I've been working on, in the hopes that I could install MineOS (Custom Linux build) and use it to replace my Minecraft Server. Originally the box belonged to my aunt and uncle, who gave it to me to try to fix about a year ago. Most of my early research indicated that the hard drive had failed, so I got them a new one.
After installing the drive I booted up the computer, expecting to install a clean copy of Windows and finish the job, but the new hard drive didn't fix the problem. The motherboard seemed to be unable to access the drive properly, and would freeze at HP's bios splash screen when started. I got busy again, they bought a new PC, and the tower sat for a year or so.

Recently I got the idea of upgrading my server in my head and decided to see if I could get it running. I ran into the same problems - the BIOS screen froze most of the time. However, on one attempt, I managed to get into the BIOS settings and boot from the flashdrive containing the MineOS image. After this I was pretty consistently able to actually boot the PC, but was never able to see a hard drive in the partitioning tool, so I couldn't install the OS to the HDD. Also, though I was able to see the HDD in the BIOS settings screen at first, I can't any more.

I have tried a ton of different things to get the box working to no avail. Through all these steps, I think I've narrowed the problem down to the motherboard (sucks), and since i... Read more

Answer:Is my motherboard totally shot? Won't talk to drives on SATA ports.

The fact that it freezes at or before the BIOS screen, indicates a hardware fault preventing the system from completing POST.

Unplug/reseat all hardware and cables, just in case something is loose. Otherwise, based on what you seen and done I agree with your assessment in that the motherboard is faulty.

You could try flashing the BIOS to the same or a newer version (if available). You could also try swapping out the power supply with a spare. Power issues can have all sorts of symptoms.

Hi all, I have a Y550 and it was having trouble starting up. After disassembling it I found that the problem was that there are two battery-looking components called "MIC1" and "MIC4" that have a "+" and a "-" next to them. This makes me think that they're capacitors, but I've never seen a capacitor that looks like these and they are on the other side of the board from the rest of the normal-looking capacitors. The motherboard also has a dead USB port. Honestly, because of the problems it was having prior I am also quite sure that the CMOS battery is just drained. So, what are those two capacitor things? MIC1 and MIC4? Finally, where can I get a new board? I've looked over ebay and Google shopping but I haven't spotted the board for a Y550. I'm thinking those two capacitors are impossible to find so I'll just have to get a new board.

Answer:IdeaPad Y550 Motherboard is damaged

As an update: The two "capacitors" are indeed capacitors. I think they're called trimmer capacitors. There is a picture of them (approximately) on the following link in Diagram 10 Capacitor Still, I have no idea where to get these little guys. If I could replace these two capacitors AND the CR1220 battery then I'd bet the board would work.

The northbridge cooling fan on my Abit KT7 RAID motherboard failed. I'm not sure how long it was inoperative. The display on my Sony TFT flat panel (DVI connection) disappeared and at first I thought it was the graphics card. My analogue CRT monitor still worked OK. I replaced the northbridge fan and the Sony screen worked for a short while before going blank. The CRT still gave a picture.I suspect the northbridge (VIA 133 chip)has overheated.I will probably have to buy a new motherboard but do not wish to have to replace my Athlon Thunderbird processor or PC133 RAM. Does anybody know where I can buy a new Abit KT7 or KT7A motherboard, or an Asus A7V133 m/board.Jim Sadler

Answer:? damaged northbridge on Abit KT7 motherboard

Tried a quick search and came up with nothing. I guess the board is considered old now, and nobody stocks it, so an alternative suggestion.I recently bought a second hand KT7 off ebay (really cheap!) and guaranteed by the seller to work. I am pleased to say, it came exactly as described and promised, and I have been using it on one of my experimental machines without drama ever since. Providing you read the description carefully, and only buy one that is guaranteed to work, it may be an answer to your problem.

Ok, so first let me say thank you for any and all help I may receive here. THANK YOU.

In 2008 I built my own computer and it worked fine. In a three or four years I added ram and no longer had a working computer. It got really hot, and I put the old back in but already damaged. I tried to buy a new motherboard like the one I had but it was discontinued then. So I set my homebuild aside and got a hp at walmart, which I still use by the way. Fast forward to today, and I want to get my homebuild working again, only better than ever. Which is why I am here, seeking a good solution to my problem.

Is there a modern quality motherboard I can just plug in, or perhaps this whole setup is so dated that it would be best to just basically start over with modern stuff and maybe reuse some components or maybe not. Opinions and advice appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:help to replace older damaged motherboard with new

I don't mean this in a bad way....but that system is about 7 generations old.

The only possible thing that be worth saving might be PSU, but if it was me I'd sell it as is and get what you can outta it and put it towards a new build.

Hi,

I have used ASUS P5Q-EM motherboard since January. It had 8 GB (a couple of paired 2x2048 kits) Corsair 1066Mhz RAM (dual-channel). It had infrequent crashed which I was unable to determine what was the cause. I installed them in pairs.

Two weeks ago, Windows 7 highlighted that 1st kit of 2x2048 RAM was faulty which are replacing. Two days ago, 2nd set of 2x2048 became faulty too.

I discovered that those are compatible to asus p45q-em motherboard if properly applied according to the ASUS mobo manual/guide (P5Q-EM Manual). So I got replacements for those faulty RAMs which I will sell them off and buy 2 x 2 kits of RAM in total 8GB which works in 2xpairs with the accordance to the manual

Corsair RAMs I used are dual channel kits but does not work in pair on my mobo which caused instability and damaged my RAMs. According to the manual, it can be used a single channel only. I learnt the hard way that a certain paired kits of RAM does not always works on dual channel mobo. eg corsair twin dominator (CM2X2048-8500C5D)

So i had to get RAMs that support 4 modules, which meets the asus mobo manual's compatibility list, inserted into blue & black slots as two pairs of Duel-channel memory configuration. eg 2 x 2 kits of 2048 Geil (GX24GB8500C5UDC) works on Asus p4q em mobo.

I found RAMs are faulty by using memtest86+ and windows diagnostic test. But how do I determine that my mobo is not faulty and wont affects my new RAMs? Can faulty RAMs affects my mobo?

Thank... Read more

Answer:Is my motherboard faulty after damaged my RAMs?

Althoug Time Consuming, the best method would be:

1) Remove All RAM from the system

2) Insert the 1st module in the very first DIMM slot.
Test & record the results.

3) Remove the module and set aside, and put in the next module
(Still in the very first DIMM slot and still only 1 RAM module)
Test & record the results.

4) Repeat until you have tested all RAM modules in the Motherboards first DIMM slot.

At this point you may have all of them Pass, Fail, or a combination of both.

keep things organized and recorded so you know which failed, or passed in that slot.

Move to DIMM slot 2, testing a single RAM module (repeating step 1 & 2)

Continue the process onto DIMM 3 and 4 etc.

This process will help you pinpoint if it is in fact a RAM issue, or a MOBO issue.

For example, if Module 2 fails in every slot, but Modules 1,3 & 4 pass .... Then Module 2 is likely defective.

If all 4 modules pass in say DIMM slot 1,2 & 4, YET Fail in DIMM slot 3 ... The RAM is fine, but the Motherboards DIMM slot 3 may be defective.

Hi all, this is about my PC crashing during games.
I'll try and explain what "may" of started the problems.
I wanted to install my old GPU for Physx for FFXIV (GTS 250), which my Main card is a GTX 460. So i install the GTS 250, and my PC can't detect it at all. I tried re-doing drivers and all that fun stuff, and it still wasn't detected.
I then decided to launch FFXIV anyway to see if it worked, and on the log-in screen it made my entire PC Lagg like crazy, even with mouse lagg. So i take out my failed Physx Card, and i'm pretty sure THAT is where my crashes started.
With my GTX 460 in, it will crash once every few hours or so, during random games. With my GTS 250 on the other hand, it will crash if i even open a web page.
I'm thinking i could of damaged my motherboard here somehow?.. I know how to install Physx lol, and my board can run SLI etc. Here's a few specs, Q6600, N7AD-SLI Motherboard, 750 watt PSU, 8GB DDR2 800mhz RAM, Windows 7, and the 2 GPU's i mentioned.
Any help at all is appreciated, thanks if you managed to read all of that.

Answer:Crashes during games. Motherboard damaged?

Also, i'll say that it's not Driver issues here with either card. I've tried every driver on the planet + Reconfigured my PC + took all my PC apart and looked for lose connections. >_>

Hi,

Not sure if it solves your problem but try:

Go Start-Control Panel-System security -Administrative tools- System configuration-Boot - advanced options
make sure that maximum Memory option is not checked. If it's checked, uncheck, press Apply, Ok and restart.

When I ran a diagnostic report on my laptop (Satellite L500-1XL) it said that my RAM was low and to upgrade it for better performance - it has been very slow to start up as of late.
However I have discovered that my model has been discontinued and I'm not sure what to do.
Any suggestions?

Bear in mind I am a total novice when it comes to computers so nothing too technical please!
Thank you.

Answer:Low RAM in Satellite L500-1XL

With more RAM your notebook will have better performance.
According notebook specification your notebook is delivered with 2 GB RAM but it can be upgraded up to 4 GB.

So buy second 2 GB RAM and upgrade your notebook.

On the spesifications of the Satelite L500-1V1 it says that there is 4096MB DDR3 RAM with 1066MHz, but why is there only 533MHz in each card?

I don't suppose you have to multiply it with 2?

Hi

As far as I know the notebook has been equipped with the DDR3 1066MHz (PC3-8500) 2GB modules?
There are two modules means notebook uses 4GB RAM.

But the 1066MHz can be reached only if the FSB (front side bus) would support 1066MHz too?

I will have to build my own PC for the first time, and i just herd about static damage to motherboard. How often does that happen? How careful do you have to be?

Answer:Is is common for a motherboard to get damaged by static energy?

drake,

Yes. It is very possible.

Google the topic and you find that the voltage of the static discharge can be unbelievably high.

Always, as a minimum, touch the metal chassis to discharge yourself into the metal chassis/frame.

I have a HP laptop which has a damaged motherboard because of a bad power connection. I bought USB 2 IDE ROSEWILL|RCW-604 RT and used it to transfer all of my husbands saved documents to an external hard drive.

He still needs an email (preferrable several of them) from the hard drive. I found Outlook Express in Program Files but it won't open. Perhaps because my new computer has Vista which doesn't run Outlook Express?

Can anybody tell me how to get his emails from the hard drive?

I thought I posted this already but don't see the thread anywhere so here goes... again.

I have a laptop with a damaged motherboard due to a faulty power supply. I purchased a IDE cable that I can connect to the hard drive of the laptop to retrieve documents. I've already used it to transfer the My Documents folder which is great.

But... my husband still needs some of the emails but I don't know how to find them.

I attempted to open Outlook express but recieve an error message perhaps because I don't have Outlook Express on this computer.

Can anybody tell me how to get his emails?

I have an old computer with OE on it but hate to have to set it up and install drivers if there is an easier way to do it.

Somebody told me that OE stores emails in My Documents by default but I don't see them anywhere.

Hi, I have a samsung np900x3e laptop. The keyboard went bad and the keys won't type correctly or would not work at all, which is most likely due to me wiping the keyboard with wet wipes. What I did was to attach a usb keyboard. However right now the broken keyboard is affecting my laptop, e.g. the keys seem to be stuck in a way that when I alt-tab on my external keyboard it wouldn't work, I'd have to alt tab on the original keyboard then it would work.
Also, my fully functional external keyboard's ctrl key would not work on this particular laptop. One day it would work, the other it wouldn't. The stuck keys seemed to have worsened these few days. I can't perform win-c / alt tab / ctrl alt del on my external keyboard due to the broken keyboard. I even booted into BIOS mode on startup yesterday. So my question right now is that can the problem be solved by simply replacing the broken keyboard? Would a liquid damaged keyboard affect the motherboard in any way?
Thanks.

Answer:Keyboard liquid damaged - is motherboard affected?

Its unlikely that wiping a keyboard with wet wipes would affect the motherboard.
if you disconnect the keyboard ribbon see if the usb keyboard then works oor try disabling the keyoard in device manager and see if the usb keyboard works then.

Answer:Satellite L500-1XC - FN key not working

Hi buddy,

Usually the FN keys are controlled by Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility. I don?t know what OS you have but for Windows 7 and Vista you need these tools that you can download here:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

First remove both tools and then restart your computer. Now install VAP and at last Flash Cards Support Utility.
