Broken hinge after only 18 months of ownership

Question: Broken hinge after only 18 months of ownership

To whom it may concern, I am writing this message to inform of you of my displeasure with one of your products. I purchased a HP Envy M6 in August of 2015 at around $700. Last night I went to open my laptop and I heard a loud snap. The noise that was heard was my hinge breaking as well as it snapping the plastic from the bottom base cover. I have now had three HP laptops and all three broke the same way. After doing some research online I found out that this is a common thing for HP laptops, specifically the Envy models. I even noticed that there was a class action lawsuit against HP for their hinges specifically. I went around to repair shops to get a quote on how much it would to be fix and was quoted from $150-$200.I was shocked at the amount quoted as I already had put a large amount of money into the purchase of the product and the product being relatively new. It is unfair to your consumers to have high priced top of the line products break on them on a regular basis. I am inquiring with your company to see if there is anything you can do to help rectify the situation. If nothing can be done I will stay away from all HP products permanently. Please feel to reply with any questions or comments you have about this incident. Thank you in advance for the timely response.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a 6 month old Inspiron 5558 that won't close properly due to a bad hinge on the right side. Spent an hour with support, only to tell me that this is not covered under warranty, even though there is still another 6 months left under Mfg warranty. The hinge is cracked, which in turn has cracked the cover of the LCD. In order to close the laptop, we have to squeeze the hinge with the screen, and slowly close. From reading through posts, it appears that Dell has ongoing issues with hinges. I totally understand and would expect a two year old device not to be covered, but at 6 months? And a broken hinge is not covered? Anyone have any thoughts?

Answer:Inspiron 5558 - 6 Months Old - BROKEN HINGE

Nope. Nothing. I had many calls with support and they still insisted that it's normal wear and tear on the machine. I purchased through Costco, and they tried calling support and received the same answer. Long story short, I will never purchase a Dell device again. Ever.

Hi.  After looking over some of the post, it looks like hinges are a problem for Lenovo.  My U450P is less than 4 months old and the hinge popped as I was trying to close it one evening last week.  (No I didn't drop it and have only taken out of the house 2-3 times.)  I didn't continue to try and close the lid, because it looked like it was pulling the top corner apart. Anyway after calling support and then driving an hour away to nearest FedEx Express, I got a call today - it will cost me $180 to repair.  Of course I had to close it to put it in the shipping box, and as it closed the broken hinge did pull apart the top slightly.  They consider that accidental damage and assume I dropped it. I was also admonished for not getting the extra warranty coverage.  Shouldn't a computer last more than 3 1/2 months without having to pay for extra warranties!!!  It seems from reading these boards that Lenovo hinges are an issue.  I certainly had no problems with previous laptops. So - am I just stuck, or has anyone found help with their hinge situations. thanks!

Don't buy this laptop! This slim laptop is thin and light but not well built. My wife is a careful user and she uses this laptop to pay the bills. Has anyone ever ordered a replacement base from Dell?

It is bad enough that Dell makes a product with a defect affecting many of their unuts (bad hinge design/manufacture), but then makes a statement that part is specifically not covered under any of their warranties.
C/mon Dell.  You created the problem, man-up to it.

The right hinge broke on my ENVY m6. Now the left one is about to go. The waranty is up and I have noticed that this is a common problem with this product. I should hope that there has been a recall on this. HP should at least repair the issue free of charge (waranty or no waranty). I take great care of my things and my computer is no exception. Please give me advice on this one. I am extremely disappointed at this point.

Hi there - I have an Aspire V5 touchscreen - when I went to close the lid, the screen cracked and I spotted that the left hinge has come apart (risen and cracked the screen). Now the laptop wont work (touch screen is flashing, mouse doesnt work - exactly the same issue as the other posts on this forum). I see on this forum and google search that this is fairly common with Acer laptops (going back to 2010) and wondering why this wasnt fixed. Has there been a recall on this, does anyone know?  I see from a google search that HP fixed a design flaw on their laptops to stop this from happening once it was reported, several years ago (2008) (I wish I had known about this problem before I purchased). If you google that you'll get the information. I've only had my laptop a couple of years. I take excellent care of my laptops, and never had this issue. (I dont travel with it, and dont close the lid often - it sits stationary on my desk and is only 2 years old).   I've sent emails out to my friends working in technology this afternoon - and so far no one has ever had this issue although no one has Acer.  Its a huge inconvenience as I use this laptop for work.  So I'm just waiting to hear back from Acer.Any suggestions on getting this fixed or replaced asap?

I bought a brand new Lenovo Thinkpad T460S in Nov 2016. This is supposed to be their premium business laptop range. I uses it daily, simple computer work. Lately it starts to have problem hibernating and waking from sleep/hibernation. Yesterday the steel left hinge suddenly broke. I contacted the Lenovo Support today and they replied : The three year international Warranty does not cover the hinges. It's like you buy a new car, then the hinge of your drive breaks and it's not covered by warranty? What kind of logic is that? They want to charge me for the repair. I am getting a quote from them, this is probably the last Thinkpad I will ever buy from Lenovo! I am getting a quote from them. I wonder if we can get the part myself and attempt a self repair. But this is deeply disappointing!

Hi all, i'm currently having some issues with the T420 in regards to the hinges. I got it on April 2011 and was reasonably happy with it, OK there was a stuck pixel but its not directly in line of vision so I can live with that. However after 5 months of relatively normal usage my hinges have become really loose, so much that at some angles it can't support the weight of the lid. It's disappointing considering the hinge on my 4 year old T61 is still relatively strong in comparison. I have 3 years warranty on the system so I thought I might as well call Lenovo Support (UK) to get it fixed, however the Lenovo rep stated that it can't be replaced under warranty as its within "reasonable wear and tear" and therefore, require a fee if I want to send it in for replacement. For sure I understand if it's 2 years old or something but 5 months? Something is not right. I was able to bide some time with the Lenovo rep to keep my case number open for a few days in regards to this, but I would like some clarification on the issue with the warranty on hinges. Reading posts on this forum indicates that the hinges are covered under warranty (ref) as long it hasn't been involved in heavy damage which mine hasn't. I also uploaded some videos of the issues i'm facing so you guys can have an idea. Is it unreasonable for me to get this fixed under warranty? I would really like some help on this, particularly from the senior mods or staff who can help me on my issue since I only have... Hi dears,I've bought in my country (Italy) the Spectre x360 (2015 edition), model 4102nl, 8gb RAM, 256 SSD, i7, QHD display in september, so it's two months old.Since first day I've unboxed my Spectre, I've noticed what looks like a manufacturing defect, despite it's very tiny.My right hinge isn't aligned with the display lid, compared to left hinge and it sticks out from the lid less than 1mm. The left hinge doesn't sticks out.Furthermore, when I open the display lid sometimes (usually when I close the display totally) I can hear a very faint noise coming from the right hinge.Could this lead to breaking itself in the immediate future? Can this cause the display glass to break because of its misalignment?I'd like to avoid to send it to service because I need the laptop for work, only in the case it doesn't cause any problem in the future.I've attached some images examples and a video with the faint sound when opening it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2j6u3jpL6M left hinge from top  left hinge from side (the good one) right hinge (assumed to be defective) from the topright hinge (assumed to be defective) from the side. Ok so earlier I did something completely stupid, I tried to take ownership of C:\ in user permissions and changed from trustedinstalller to my username as I was having admin privilege problems and nothing was working.

Well turns out that is a very bad idea (the other site I read this on gave no warning for doing it on C:\) and now, whilst windows is working and all my files still remain, I cannot use the start bar, Microsoft edge won't even open and the start button won't work either I also had a warning that recycle bin had corrupted but that seems to be fixed now for some reason.

Now, failing there being a way to fix this (I have yet to find a fix despite numerous searches on google and the ones I have found won't work) I am probably looking at a reset of the OS :-(.

Now this is where I need help, I don't want to have to reinstall a bunch of steam games or setup my game emulators again, I also I don't want to have to lose my files folders and installed programs like my custom Intel rapid storage tech which is the only one that doesn't give me bluescreens.

Is there anyway I can literally backup all my data and then reinstall! windows and then run the backup so it all goes back to exactly how it was before? With all my reg edits and old files, all my saved windows setting etc?

Or is there a way I can repair windows without losing anything? Literally just a repair of windows itself and all my programs and files and folders will stay in tact?

Please help!

Answer:I have broken W 10 by trying to take ownership of C:\ please help!

If you have setup System Restore Points then the simplest approach is to restore to a point in time before you made the changes to your C:\ drive.

Hi, I just bought a Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P early this year. Just about last night I was using it without any problems, then this morning when I turned it on, the screen only shows the Lenovo logo and stuck there. I tried turning it on using the NOVO button, plugging out the adapter and pressed the power button for 30-40 seconds, disconnect everything from the laptop, unplug for 12 hours, pressed F4, F9, F10, none of them work! The screen stay still with the Lenovo logo with black background. This is frustrating. Even more disappointed when I thought I could send it for warranty but there are tons of commentsof  bad experience sending Lenovo's item for warranty. Some of them didn't get their item repaired for up to a year! I am in need of this laptop because the coming semester is just around the corner. I'm just wondering if there is any other way to get my laptop repaired for free under warranty quickly. Or are there any other suggestions of what should I do? If there's none I can do about it, then I guess I'll just send it for warranty. P/S: Currently not having so much money, so buying a new laptop is not an option. Thanks in advance.Fahmi

I bought a Thinkpad L412 last October. In July the 'G' key broke off. It was a manufacturing defect. It was held on by 4 small plastic L shaped hooks on the back, and one of the hooks was not printed correctly. This is probably a 5 cent piece of plastic. I took it to my local Lenovo service shop. They told me it would cost $55 CDN+ to fix because it was not covered on the warranty that came with the machine. They said that the key breaking off after 10 months was "normal wear and tear". Before buying the L412 I bought an IBM Thinkpad T30 in 2003. And before that I had a IBM Thinkpad 700C purchased in 1993. The keyboards on both of those machines are still perfect. They work like the day I bought them. How is it possible that the keyboard breaks on a 10 month old L412 to "normal wear and tear"? Lenovo may have bought the Thinkpad name and patents, but they have obviously reduced the quality. These laptops are not worth the money. Disgusted with Lenovo, I have switched to Apple. At least with them I know that the product was built to last only a few years.

Answer:L412 - key broken after 10 months

I agree with the degradation of Thinkpad quality, but my Mac mini died after 17 month with a dead mainboard and warranty was refused. So don't be too optimistic. Cost cutting is a global problem. Regards Umbi

The hard disk of my laptop got broken after only 22 months of normal usage. The legal warranty for any electronic device is 2 years + 2 months but the italian vendor is not willing to cover for it. When I approached them they came back with a quotation of 210? for the repair without even having checked the laptop that is still in my hands.Do you think is possible that the vendor is not covering for the warranty? Any of you have experienced such an early failure?Thank you

DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT.  I switched from Apple to HP in January 2017, thinking it was a smart move as the laptop was half the price. £700 and 4 months later, the bottom casing has cracked and apparently my warrenty won't cover it.  The crack came as no fault of my own. I have not dropped it or mishandled it. It was a lot of money for me to spend and so I treated the product with the upmost care. Yet HP would like to charge me £137 to replace the casing. £137 for cheap, poor material that cracked within 4 months?  Upon buying this product I was told it was indestructible and wouldn't break easily. 4 MONTHS LATER???  This laptop is not worth it and HP are a terrible company.

Question: Broken hinge

As I have seen with many others on this board, I have a broken hinge on my HP Pavilion laptop.  It has been broken for a while but I did not realize how endemic a problem this is to HP laptops.  Not only is the hinge broken, I fear that the wires in the hinge may be fraying.  I use this machine daily and it is in great shape outside of this hinge problem which causes the screen to be distinctly unstable.  Will HP authorize a repair?  And what will HP do if the wires are permanently damaged?  Thanks

I purchased an Aspire V5-571 laptop in June 2013. The left side hinge has started to come loose, pulling the bottom half of the laptop away from the top half. As a result of this, the loose hinge has cracked the screen and the touch screen now no longer works. No damage has been done to the laptop, it has just been subject to normal use. One of the hinge that allows the laptop rotate 360 degrees is no longer working property.  The bottom half of the hinge that connects to the keyboard side is no longer rotating property. I suspect there is not enough lube or the thread is borken.  Since the hinge is not rotating correctly, there is a difference in spacing between the screen and keyboard half of the laptop, causing the two of sometimes grind against one another.  I have to physically try to rotate the angle of the bottom half of the hinge to match the working side, but this is not an easy task which shouldn?t be a problem in the first place.  Now I love the Specte X360 when it is working and was planning buying one for my fiancé (trying to convert her over to PC from MAC), but this is seriously giving me second thoughts on the quality of HP Spectre 360.   My question is does the hinge needs occasional lubing for it to work properly?  Has there been testing (qualification) on these hinges?  If so, how many cycles?  Is there a video or manual on how to disassemble the hinge?  I am an engineer and do failure analysis for a living, so I am somewhat interested the failure mode.  Plus, this was a very expensive computer and I would rather not have to spend more money if I am able to fix this myself.  Anyways, I don't know if it's my bad luck or HP is very 'good' with its warranty...  Usage Info:Laptop is ... Question: Broken Hinge

Hello,  I purchased the HP Envy Touch Smart Laptop about a year or so ago for myself considering I was just starting college. Unfortunately, the left hinge has been giving me various problems lately.  My laptop is working well and I have no other issues other than this and I have never dropped it before.  As I mentioned previously, I consistenly use my laptop for school and I am going to need it for a few more years since this is a fairly recent purchase. Lately, I have been very hesistant to close the screen down as I feel that every time I open it - it could get much worse and break off.  Please advise as to how this can be repaired or replaced before college starts back up. Thank you very much!

Question: Broken hinge?

I managed to acquire a Toshiba Tecra 8100 for free. The specs are as follows:500MHz Pentium III24(?)x CD-ROm192MB PC100 RAM20GB hard drive8MB S3 SavageMX14.1" XGA TFT LCDWindows XP Home Edition (SP2)Now i have a few problems:1. (the biggest one) The screen is very wobbly, and won't stay open past a certian angle. There is at least 2" of play in the hinges. I'm assuming one of them is broken. How hard would replacing the hinges be on this particular computer, and could I do it myself?2. (a smaller, more trivial problem) When I wake the computer up from standby, sometimes the LCD doesn't come back on. I can usually fix this by pressing Fn+F5, which switches between the external monitor (which doesn't exist) and the LCD, and it comes back on.3. Very rarely the screen will go completely blank. I can remedy this by pressing the little switch that puts it in standby when the screen is closed.Thanks!-Johnbtw this is a pretty nice computer for free! :D

Question: Hinge broken

Hi, my laptops hinge has recently broken. this is through no fault of my own as i believe, as i never move my laptop, and i have left it open for the last 2 days due to myself being scared of opening/closing the lid as it makes a horrible clicking sound along with the hinge detaching from the bottom left corner of the screen. my laptop is working fine except the hinge. i have read through the other discussions and found out that most people that bought their laptops 3-4 years ago are experiencing this, my laptop was bought in 2013. I tried to superglue the screws together as i do not have the time to get my laptop fixed or even afford to fix it right now, as i know HP will try to charge me a ridiculous amount for such a tiny job as i am a student and have exams in 2 months. What do i do? i would fix the part myself but i cannot find any replacement parts for my laptop. I believe this is not fair for me as i did not even drop the laptop or even moved it around much as i am always doing work on my desk. My battery doesnt even lock on the same side of the hinge that broke, thats how out of place it is.

A hinge of my Acer S7 191 broke. I showed it to a few local repair shops and they said the whole display unit will have to be replaced. It will be an extremely expensive repair, not least because I imported the laptop and there are no easily available replacement parts for it in Brazil, but I can order parts from the UK and have a friend bring it to me next month. What piece do I have to buy? The whole display unit, or is there a cheaper alternative? Also, can the hinge be repaired by soldering or gluing it? (I don't care if it looks ugly, as long as it works and doesn't cost a kidney)

Answer:S7 191 broken hinge

Here's a set of hinges from the UK. They won't be heavy and should be able to be packed into a small package.I don't know if shipping would be a kidney.http://www.ukpcspares.com/acer-aspire-s7191-lcd-hinges-p-123808.html

Something internal to the mechanism on the left hinge on my computer has failed. If I open or close the laptop there is a grinding noise. In addtion, the upper and lower plastic casings seperate more each time I tilt the screen. If I put pressure on it, they will go back together but separate again if I shift the angle.  I purchased my laptop in May 2014 and sent it in for service under warranty in May 2015 for the exact same issue. I believe they determined that an internal screw came loose. Surprsingly enough, two years later in May the same hinge has failed like clockwork. I am wondering if there are any solutions out of warranty since the same problem has previously been serviced by HP.  Can't believe I had to register this account and type this paragraph a second time after HP's service form so kindly informed me that my warranty has expired (which, duh...) and that itwould cost $59.99 per hour to speak to someone on the phone. This is the second time now that I have had to spend an hour going in circles on HPs website during finals week looking for some sort of customer service.

Question: T61 hinge broken

Hi, I was just using my laptop and my hinge just popped off. I did not mishandle it and was just closing it. Apparently, this is a problem that a lot of people have had. Unfortunately, I am not covered under warrenty. It seems like the hinge itself costs roughly $150 to replace. Is this a problem that lenovo is not willing to address as it seems to have happened frequently. What are my options? Thanks.

Answer:T61 hinge broken

If you're not afraid to replace them yourself, you can do a lot better than $150. Just to get an idea ... go to ebay and search for "T61 Hinges".  That should bring back plenty of results.

Question: Hinge Broken

Hello,  I too have had the hinge on my Envy suddenly crack open. No falls, drops, or damage. Everything works fine except for this hinge that just bulged out. What worries me is that this seems to be a popular problem, yet no recall has been made to fix it that I am aware of, and now that my Envy is more than a year old. I will be have to pay for a repair that seems to be somehow common. I would LOVE to hear that HP is standing behind their product and making things right with their customers??? Thanks for your consideration. From a Btech Computer science student.HP Envy m6 Also please make sure that this problem doesn't repeat in new laptops. I told my friends and they are refraining from hp due to this problem in many laptops; hp doesn't design the frames well

Apparently this is a common issue/design flaw, but the hinge on my laptop is badly broken. I took it to a PC repair place and they said that I could either buy a new one or replace the whole screen. The problem is, the laptop's warranty ran out 6 months ago. It broke over a month ago with regular usage and it's just incredible that there wasn't some kind of recall notice on such a blatant design flaw.  Is there anything I can do to get this fixed without shelling out hundreds of dollars? I can't accept that this is just one of those "sit back and take it" things, otherwise there would be a huge amount of lawsuits.

Is this a common problem with the V5? Is it something that can be easily repaired? Happy to provide any more details if required.

I bought my HP ENVY m6-1205dx in Jan of 2013 from Best Buy, so it's not really new, however I can't really afford a new laptop right now.  About 6 months ago (Nov 2016) the hinge broke and I've been living with the issue since.  I've checked online for repairs and it's a bit beyond my skill level to do it on my own.  I would take it to Best Buy to repair, however since this seems to be a common problem with this model I feel HP should stand behind it's products and repair it for free.  I've been an HP user for 15 years, however based on this experience when my 12 year old needed a new note book recently, I decided to go with another manufacturer.  HP needs to win back my business!

I really don't expect to get any help with this because I have had this issue with previous HP laptops and no help forthcoming because the laptop is out of warranty. So here is a 4 year old laptop which cost over $1200 going down the drain because the plastic holding the screws have broken. I had the same problem with another laptop and was told it would cost 600 to fix. Very disappointed with HP products in general. It's a design issue that HP takes no resposiility to fix and just expects us to cough up the money to fix or buy a new laptop. Sorry, but I can't afford to keep paying for their issues. Either fix the problem or expect consumers to go elsewhere for their products. That's the only option I have left. I have used HP printers and laptops and desktops for over 20 years and have steadily seen the quality decrease. Sorry to see a big company not care about its customers.

Question: M7 Broken hinge

My wife has been battling using her M7 Envy since the left hinge went bad. Long story short we went out yesterday and got her and New Envy 360. She will open up work on 1 to 3 PCs/Laptops by the way. With the additon of the 360, she can keep up to speed while I look into fixing it now....I have already noticed that the M6 users have been able to get them fixed. I need to see what can be done to fix the hinge.(Hoping for a moderator to hop in at this point and guide this old whitebox OEM on);-)Thanks in advance!

Question: Broken Hinge

I did a search on this forum and came across the "broken hinge" posts. I have had my laptop for just under 2 years and like others noticed the hinge was a bit funny but put it down to being new and thought it would get easier with use. I am now at a point where the hinge hardly moves and seems to be pulling the screen away from the lid when opening/closing and now I can only do either by holding the hinge firmly in place and slowly closing. The screen colours change if the lid is moved even slightly. It seems that HP have known that this was an issue as I have discovered today that they did a recall in 2009 on the same problem but seems to have ignored that it is happenening again. I got the email warning for recall over power cables but nothing mentioned regarding faulty hinges. Can someone from HP contact me to tell me what they are going to do about this. Like everyone else my warranty ran out 8 months ago.

I am laptop user since 12 years. July, 30th I bought my Portege Z930, thinking it was my best decision in many years.
Less than a month later, when opening the screen during a flight, it?s simply broken the screen, making it impossible to use any more.

After sending it to official service in Spain, I was told that it was my fault and for a bad use, so I had to pay more than 300? (almost 400$). I claimed to customer support, explaining them about their excessive flexible top and rigid screen, and nothing new.
It was only my fault.

Last Octobers, 11th again when opening my top, this time using a tape label attached by myself, in order to avoid blending the screen, it scratched again.

I can`t afford this is only my fault but it is a real design problem, to get the lightest ultrabook in market.

If anyone may give me support for this serious problem, it will be very appreciated

Answer:Portege Z930-10E - broken screen twice in 3 months only

Hi

This is really amazing story and I believe you are the first one who reports about something like this.
Portege Z930 is for a while on the market and I never heard about such issues.
Please don?t understand me wrong but it is really strange that this happen already three times.

I saw this machine and the whole construction seems pretty stabile to me. When you open the display I hope your fingers are placed in the middle of the display cover and not by the side. The pressure on display cover hinges must be the same. If you hold the display on one side only I can imagine that something like this can happen but it shouldn?t.

Portege series is one of the best Toshiba?s business notebooks so I believe Toshiba designer and technicians take it very seriously and I cannot imagine that they make such ?design? mistake.

I still have old Portege 2000 and it was lightest notebook at this time with very sensible display and display cover hinges but there is no problem at all.

We can discuss here for days and I really hope that someone with the same Portege can post own experiences but all this you must try to clarify with Toshiba. Be careful when you open it and hold the display in the middle only.

Good luck.

I got to school this morning, flipped open my almost brand new T430 screen and just saw vertical lines across the whole screen! Right now I am using the computer with an external monitor, which  seems to work, but the laptop display itself is not working. What happened? It was perfectly fine last night! Has this happened to anyone else????? With the fan noise and other update issues I've had with this machine so far, this will most likely be the first and last Lenovo I ever buy.

Seems like a panel defect. It happens. I'd contact Lenovo support to get the panel replaced. Perhaps they can look at the fan issues at the same time.

I have an HP Envy M6 notebook (purchased in January 2013). I have the exact same problem that dozens of other people have had: the right hinge on my notebook has broken somehow. The casing threatens to separate from the screen if I don't hold the two together when I close the laptop. I do not believe this to have occurred due to any fault of mine, as several others have had the same issue. I am quite sure my warranty has expired, but I don't care about that. I think HP should do something to fix my computer, or to give me a different one, as I would not have bought this computer had I known how poorly built it was. Thank you for your help. Sincerely,Alex Kaczmarek

Hi, i have had this laptop for quite a while now and is well out of warranty but my hinge is now at the point where i have to very gently close it for fear of breaking the screen off. it is mainly the right hinge but the left is showing signs of this also. could you please advise what you or indeed i can do about this as this was obviously a design fault that was never really acted on. Regards Gerald

I  just came across this topic. My HP Envy m6-1184ca, purchased November 7, 2012, also has a broken hinge. It broke in normal use a couple of months after the warranty expired. I was quoted $300 for the repair, roughly 50% of the purchase price. With no relief forthcoming I declined the repair and have been using it by propping the screen against several books. I look to HP to repair to computer at minimum or no cost to me.

I've had this laptop for several years now, and recently i noticed the screw that held the hinge in became broken or something and the hinge freely moves when I open and close the laptop.  It has gotten so bad that dead pixels have appeared in the left corner where the hinge was broken and the surrounding plastic of the screw broke apart. My warrenty is obviously out but I was wondering if there was anyway I could get this fixed since the build quality of these laptops is terrible. It's even gotten to the point of overheating if you were to watch 1080p movies or game.
