Question: T500 windows 10 64bit compatible Half size mini PCI Wifi bluetooth card?

I pulled the intel 5150 which is not compatible with windows 10. Has anyone upgraded a T500 to Windows 10 and tested a wifi card or wifi/bluetooth card

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

im looking to buy a great wifi card for my laptop, i have a Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 and it is horrible! and before that a ralink atheros card. with this intel card i have i cant even connect my bluetooth headset to it because it crackles and disconnects, its so bad that i have to be in clear line of sight, perfectly still and within 2 feet for it not to act up. and yes i have tried every trick i can imagine, from making sure it wasn't in power saving to massing around with all the advanced options i can understand and making sure the drivers are up to date. as for gaming controllers i use my ps4 controller to play games on the laptop and it will randomly disconnect and and give heavy input delay. Also the wifi is 5g and its still isn't that great, its slow at times and im right in front the router. and my laptop was broken for a couple of months and i was using a replacement with a lower older intel 5g wifi card and it was flawless, it was a m.2 but my laptop dosent have a m.2.

So i am looking for a great replacement wifi card that is resistant to interference and that can have great bluetooth and 5g wifi without catching interference from usb 3.0
someone once told me that a company called AzureWave was good.

Interesting. I have that same exact card in my Dell Precision M4800 and it works flawlessly. I couldnt ask for a better card. Aside from Intel, I would suggest Atheros or Broadcom.

THis probably would be a good one as well: http://www.ebay.com/itm/CUK-Killer-D...gAAOSwTglYl0uu

Until now, I've had no real need for bluetooth capability in my Z560 laptop, but now I find that this has nearly become a 'necessity' since some of our newest hardware is (in essence) "bluetooth only" (well, not really, but I do have more than one 'intended use' for BT just the same..).  Plus, the 'native' Qualcomm Atheros AR9285 wifi card that was originally installed has become very intermittent and 'flakey', to the point that I find it necessary to shut off the internal wifi and use a USB b/g/n 'dongle' wifi adapter...So, what possibility is there for me to fiind and replace this Qualcomm  mini-card with something like an Intel b/g/n with bluetooth?  I see that there was once an Intel 1000 that had both b/g/n and BT, but in an absence of finding one of these (been trying for awhile now..), which mini-card is most 'adviseable' for me to begn searching for? I understand that these mini-cards MUST be 'whitelisted' in the BIOS or the laptiop will simply not 'boot', so I'm here, turning to this forum, to begin my search for 'alternatives'.  OR - is there a BIOS update that might have altered this 'whitelist' which might lend some 'better' alternatives?  Currently, the BIOS is ver. 2.17 (4/13/2011).  Some input..?

Answer:Z560-0914 bluetooth mini-card? Which one is compatible..? AND still available..?

Hi,

From the Lenovo IdeaPad Z560/Z565 Hardware Maintenance Manual   page 61, the Z560 uses a bluetooth daughter card - it isn't incoporated into the wlan card.

The FRUs for the compatible wifi cards are also in the HMM.  The BT card FRUs are "TBD".

Keep in mind that the whitelist requires a compatible model AND that the card have a Lenovo FRU number.  A generic Intel 6250NX (for example) will not pass the whitelist.

My X200s uses Intel N 5300 WiFi card. But I need this slot for mpcia SSD. Can I use half size Intel N 5300 wifi card at Turbo Memory slot if I remove half size Turbo Memory?

Answer:Half size Intel N 5300 WiFi card for X200s

if it is from Lenovo then yes, otherwise no. Lenovo never sold any Thinkpads with a half size Intel 5300 card AFAIK, so if you are getting a generic one then the answer is no, it won't work in your machine. the slot on the X200s won't support mSATA drives.

Ok, so I recently bought a Lenovo g570 4334EGU (the versoin with the B950 processor) laptop. It doesn't have bluetooth, and i'm looking for a way to add it. I've found some mini (1/2) pcie cards that have wifi and bluetooth capability that I could potentially use to replace the current wifi card. However, I have no idea what cards the laptop is actually compatible with. At first I though that any mini pcie card would be compatible, but some of the ones I looked at said that they are specifically not compatible with certain brands. Does anyone have a list of compatible cards? Is there something specific I should look for? This is the one I was looking to buy: http://www.ebay.com/itm/190723655726 Does anyone know if it is compatible? Thanks!

Answer:G570 Mini PCIe card compatibility questions (for bluetooth & wifi)

Hello and welcome,

The card in that link specifically says not for Lenovo.

Lenovo laptops require cards that pass the BIOS whitelist test.  They have to be both the correct model (intel XYZ) AND have a Lenovo FRU number.  The FRU number indicates that they have been modified (subsystem ID, IIRC) to pass the whitelist.  Reliable vendors will list the FRU # as well as the card model.

The best reference is the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your machine, or the parts list PDF.  I can't access the support site at the moment to figure out which applies to the G570 and to get the actual list.  Hopefully tomorrow the site will be back up.

Sorry I can't provide any better information just now.

Hello,
I want to upgrade my Laptop Inspiron 17R N7110 with a SSD for Windows boot. I do only have one place where the HDD is already built in and I want to keep the HDD.
When I was removing the dust inside the Laptop at the fan I saw the (half) "mini-card"-Slots. In one I have the WLAN, but the otherone is empty. So my Idea was to add a  mSATA Mini (Half Size) SSD.
I saw this on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/MyDigitalSSD-Super-Cache-HybriDisk-Software/dp/B00JF4CUBO/ref=pd_cp_pc_0
But I do not know if this could work (as boot drive for Win8). Do this fit as (half) "mini-card" ? Is SATA III at this slot supported? What do I have to change at BIOS?
Thanks to everyone who answer.

Answer:Inspiron 17R N7110 mSATA Mini (Half Size) SSD

The hybrid drive is the best option for this system (short of getting a full SSD) -- there is no way to put an mSATA SSD in this system.
The system takes standard, 2.5" hard drives up to 9.5 mm in height.

Hi,For quite some time now I've been having problems with Bluetooth (BT) devices on my T500 Win7 64 bit with devicesranging from like my older Nokia C2-01 mobile phone to my new UE ROLL 360 wireless speakers. at this stage the BTicon appeared correctly upon startup and in the device manager there where no errors, whereas the BT devices wereidentified as:a. Thinkpad bluetooth with Enhanced Date Rate IIb. The numbers are the HP Part No and you have to order the part that way. A non-HP card even with the same chip will not work. All of the listed cards will work and all are better than what you have.

I Have A Friend Who Said He Would Replace The Nic card With A New one If We could Find A Better Card With Bluetooth Built In And Under $25:00 Preferably A Intel card. Dose My Laptop Support Such A Card, And If So Where Can we buy one?

Answer:Want To replace My Nic Card PCI Half Mini

The best overall WiFi card that was created in the Half Mini-Card form factor before everything switched to M.2/NGFF was the Intel 7260 -- but the 7260 was made in BOTH Half Mini-Card and M.2 variants, so make sure you buy the correct type.  You want the one that has "HMW" in the model name, NOT the one that has "NGW".  And yes, it does include Bluetooth, only costs $25-30, and will be a significant improvement over your current WiFi card.  If you're based in the US, you can find Intel 7260HMW cards from places like Amazon, Newegg, eBay, etc.

I need help finding a replacement half mini PCI Express card.  My current card has gone bad (Unless it is the mother board). It is for a Thinkpad SL410, Windows 7 64. My current card is WiMAX/WiFi Link 5150. I do not need WiMAX.  I just need a connection to my router and on rare occasions to a wifi hotspot when I?m on the road. I have read the numerous compatibility issues with Lenovo and certain aftermarket cards.  Where can I buy a card that won?t give me the old 1802, and are there multiple options?  Is there is such a thing as a faster wireless connection?  I would be happy to order from Lenovo but I cannot find any place to do that.  Thanks.

Answer:W530 half mini PCI Express card upgrade

Hello and welcome,

I don't think you're going to be able to use that card.  Lenovo laptops - and IBM before them - use a BIOS whitelist for wifi cards. If a card isn't in the list, the laptop won't boot.

A card has to be both a whitelisted model and have a Lenov FRU number.  A generic Intel card won't work unless it has been modified (subsystem ID, IIRC) to have an FRU number.

The W530 FRU List will show you the whitelisted cards.  It appears that some of them are dual-band.  You'll need to Google the FRU numbers to find sources and verify the specifications.

I guess this is one computer they must have made a trial run on and nobody bought them or is it considered in the 500 series?

Answer:PCI Half Mini Card upgrade for Thinkpad T520

Hello and welcome,

The T520 bill of materials includes a list of supported cards.  There appear to be some dual band cards in the list.

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/parts/PD009237?LinkTrack=Solr

Keep in mind that a card must be a supported model and have a Lenovo FRU number to pass the BIOS white list.

For example, a "vanilla" Intel 6205 won't pass the list but a 60Y3253 should.

Answer:Can I replace stock wifi card with an Intel 6235 Wifi/Bluetooth PCI-e card in my N580?

Hello and welcome,

Whatever card you use, it MUST have a Lenovo FRU number.  Cards that will pass the BIOS whitelist have been modified to provide a specific subsystem ID to BIOS.  Reputable sellers will list the Lenovo FRU if their card is compatible.

For example, a generic Intel 6150NX will not pass the whitelist, but a 6150NX with a 20002543 FRU number will pass.

I have two y560 units on the way. Both shipped with the Intel 1000 wireless network PCIe cards in them.  I want to purchase two of the 6200 cards since the 1000 cards do not support the 5ghz range.  I see some around that are OEM for Dell and others.  They are the same physical standard but I'm not sure if Lenovo BIOS blocks (blacklist/whitelists) certain PCIe cards so that one that came out of a Dell or HP wouldn't work or if I'll be just fine.  In fact, i see some that say they're for Thinkpads and don't list any of the Ideapad models.  Shouldn't all of the above work just fine?

Hi, all! I fiddled with the half mini card adapter on my Thinkpad Edge E420 laptop running Windows 7, and now I can't connect via Wi-Fi.  I saw advice on another website that to enable a laptop to increase wireless connection speed, one could delete the network adapter and reinstall it.  We got a new router with Ethernet connection speed of 1 gbps, and I wanted my laptop's speed to be higher than its constant 54 mbps. This turns out to have been bad advice.  When I went to reinstall the adapter, I noticed that of the 3 items previously listed in Device Manager under Network Adapters, one of the items was missing.  I was not clever enough to have written down the names of the 3 items *before* deleting the PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter, so I can't say what the name of the item was. The two items remaining are this 1x1 11b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter which reinstalled (but apparently not fully), and the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. Immediately I lost connectivity with the internet.  Windows diagnostics tells me there's a "problem with the network adapter" and "Windows couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter."  I have no idea what that means.  Windows also tells me that I don't need a new driver. Can anyone help?  I'm not particularly computer-savvy, but am highly motivated -- because I love my laptop! Thank you in advance.

Hello,

I purchased 2 Asus VivoBook laptop's this year. One of them has a Atheros WLAN card while the other is a Quallcom. Both are only 2.4GHz.

I am debating if I should upgrade to a dual band 5GHz card for better speed/less interference. I opened up both laptops and the WLAN cards are PCI-E Half-Mini card.

Questions:

1) What network card do you guys recommend? I am looking at Intel 7260 since it is dual band, AC network and bluetooth. They are under $20 on eBay.
2) Will bluetooth work if I do get the 7260? The laptops originally do not have bluetooth, hopefully it will work off the existing antennas?

Appreciate any feedback!

Hi,

Not sure I'm allowed to answer an ASUS question

If there are any hadware locks they will probably be in the ASUS BIOS.  Lenovo FRU cards have a different subsystem ID than generic cards of the same model.  No idea if ASUS will care about that.

I just today noticed I'm having the same code 43 on my H520 wireless LAN. I trust someone is working on this; as it is my H520 has no wireless capability since the Windows 8.1 upgrade.

Hi ssor777 and Welcome to SF,

Is this a work laptop? It is configured in a domain network, it has a DNS suffix of .local.

Another thing...you are using Open DNS's, you may set it back to 'Obtain DNS Server Automatically' from your Wireless setting.

Install and run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector.
Click on the 'Show Networks' to display all wireless networks on the xirrus icon on your desktop if you have one running in a corner. Tap the Printscreen key on your keyboard, open up Paint then choose Edit from the Menu and select Paste, then SAVE it. Upload and attached on your next Post.

Hi everyone, I'm after some advice about what to do abut my laptop's wireless card. I've got a ThinkPad L430, which is a couple of years old but I won in a raffle and have just started using from brand new. The laptop came with Windows 8, and from the start had issues with the Wireless card (ThinkPad 1x1 11b/G/N Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter) randomly appearing and disappearing from Device Manager. When adding some RAM I resecured the wireless card and that seemed to make it more reliable, but still the signal went in and out regularly. I've since updated to Windows 10, and while the rest of the laptop works great, the wirless has become so unreliable that I have turned to using a USB WiFi dongle. Now, while previously unused, my L430 is out of warranty to get this repaired - so I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations to replace the current wireless card with? I would prefer not to always have to fill a USB socket. Thanks for any pointers!

Hello lenovo community! is it possible to have more detail on minipCi-e port?is it a low-profile card or a specific port? my main question is  > Is it possible to add a 3d car to this model of thinkcentre (m90z) and what kind of card can i buy?

Answer:mini pCi-e on m90z (graphic card compatible?)

mPCIe slot is a small slot for wireless cards. It not going to fit a graphics card. What you are thinking about is the full size PCIe slot. Does your machine have an Expresscard slot on the machine? I know the new M92z that i got have this option.

Hi all, My wife and I bought our two T520s about 1 year ago, and everything was working fine until recently when I upgraded our wireless router to N series. Our connections became very slow, and we couldn't even play YouTube video smoothly. I changed my router to other 802.11N products and they wouldn't work well either. Finally, I found out that I can turn off the g mode in the network adapter setting and the connection quality is recovered. I tried to update by adapter driver, but it didn't help. So far, it is not bothering us since we don't really need the 802.11g connections.

Thank you for having this forum available. My husband passed down his Thinkpad A21M Type 2628-GTU to our son. The wifi card that was with it is a Lucent Technologies Orinoco Silver 11mbit/s t/n 03549501 p/n012938/c. When powered up last night, the ethernet was fully functional, but the wireless card didn't connect to the net. My husband assumed the Lucent card was bad. Is there something compatible I may buy to replace it? Do you have a suggestion on what he might have missed in trying to get it to work at home? He has used this laptop all over the country including at home before, so I would imagine he knows what he is doing. But, we do have a new service provider since the company upgraded his computer system. Thank you so much!

Answer:Compatible WIFI card for Thinkpad a21m, wifi orinoco silver no longer working

Welcome to the forum! Honestly, it's time to upgrade to a newer card anyway, at least b/g. Any PCMCIA wireless card will work with your A21m, it all depends on your router, and your personal preferences. Hope this helps.

Hi everyone,
This is my first question to Techspot.
Can anyone advise me which Mini PCI wireless card would be compatible for my Toshiba 1410-303 laptop? I've got a hunch that I shouldn't just rush out and get the latest card. I am about to setup a wireless network with a desktop PC running XP and using a Netgear 54 MBPS wireless ADSL2+ modem router.
Thanks (in anticipation), Creyke

Has anyone had problems installing  EVGA GTX 1060 SC 6gb half-size card into a Dell XPS 8910?  I want to replace the current card, Nvidia GTX 750ti.  I followed the advice from others, and updated to the latest bios release for this model (10.0.1.0.10), disabled on-board Intel HD Graphics 520.  Unlike full size cards, the GTX 1060 half-size card only requires 1 PCI-E 6 pin connection, however the card simply does not power up, and now I'm leaning towards upgrading the power supply in order to handle the extra load, Now I have seen conflicting issues from these forums that a 350watt supply can handle it, and others say no.  Before going out and throwing more money to the wind, is there something else I'm missing?  I have heard that  the 1060 will work, and others say it has never been tested on the 8910, only 970, 980, 1070 and 1080, all well beyond my upgrade budget.   Are there issues with this particular card and the motherboard?

Answer:Dell XPS 8910 and EVGA GTX 1060 SC 6gb half-size card issues

The power supply should easily handle that card.  Are you running the system in UEFI mode or legacy mode?

Hi guysHave an issue with an X220 where the system was ready to be sent to the user, I did system update the night before deploying which included a firmware update, next morning the wifi was disabled. (original bios 1.28 I think, new bios 1.4).The wifi card is no longer detected by the system at all, indicating the firmware has disabled the card. I managed to force it back to a previous BIOS revision but the issue persists, I then rolled to 1.4 official again and have tried the modded bios v1.4 (without wifi whitelist).I have tried the original card in a different unit and it works, and have tried the spare units wifi card (same model card) in this X220, also not detected. So it seems the BIOS is still blocking all similar Intel cards. Interestingly if I try a Broadcom card from a different model Lenovo, it is detected in the mini wifi slot.So this confirms the slot is operational.I cannot use it however since it is a full size card and does not fit in the mini wifi section in the x220.Last idea I had was to try all the cards in the 2nd (full length) slot but that will not pick up any Wifi cards at all. Anybody have an idea where to look to enable the Intel cards again? I have seen mention of a pin which is used for this but surely with the modded bios this should not be an issue? Note that with any of the intel cards inserted no devices are detected in Dev Man, and no option to switch them on via Fn+F5 (wifi option missing) Thanks for any suggestion... Read more

Answer:X220 wont detect Intel mini wifi, detects full size Broadcom, BIOS 1.43 w/o whitelist

HiWhat's the wifi card model, its p/n, Lenovo FRU? If this card isn't approved to use in x220, do you get the lock screen with error 1802 message during the laptop booting with original BIOS? Regarding the patched BIOS any question should be addressed to its author, it's not a deal of this official forum.BIOS v.1.4 wasn't released ever. Intitial, factory released version 1.04 dated 2011 year is outdated. The recent version is 1.43. It's impossible to rollback this version to any previous version, 1.28 including.

My bluetooth keyboards and mice randomly disconnect often.  My headset audio loses sync with video. Other times audio is fine but video lags to a crawl but immediately fixes once my bluetooth device is disconnected. I've tried updating drivers..etc and can't seem to solve the problem. I'd rather just buy a new card and see if that solves everything. Can someone please recommend a great card that would be compatible with my computer. 802.11ac preferably
Dell XPS 8700, Windows 10

Answer:Can someone recommend a compatible bluetooth card for XPS 8700

I would add a PCIe adapter card with antennas on the back: like this:
search ebay for this "wireless mini pcie to pcie adapter" and you'll find several for about $10 USD.
and then add in a mini pcie card of your choosing: I think I'd choose this one:
intel dual band wireless-ac 7260HMW WiFi+Bluetooth 4.0 PCIe Half Mini Wifi Card
New on ebay for about $25 USD.
I'd expect drivers from Intel would work without any issues, but Windoze 10 will take care of the drivers anyway weather you like it or not.

High i have recently purchased a Lenovo y510 from offcide depot with Intel t5550 1.83 and 3g ram and Intel agn card now i want to upgrade the wiresless LAN card to a BT and CPU to either t7500 or t8100 what is the difference between the two since the former has more cache. So basiclly does this notebook support an internl BT/agn card mini pci and what is the max out CPU including the extrme line.

Answer:Please help on hardware upgrades eg Max CPU type and Wirelss Bluetooth Mini PCI lAN CARD

The T8100 is a penryn processor i think, it runs cooler and therefore you would have more battery life as compared to the T7500, speed wise probably not much difference in the real world. Regarding the BT and Wireless combo cards, you may need to source it from Lenovo, i don't know whether Ideapad have TPM in it, if it has like Thinkpads do than YOU CAN'T USE any third party hardware, only Lenovo sourced one.

I have a Lenovo Z560 laptop with a AR9285 (Atheros) card in it, and it's utter crap. Home network uses a Asus RT-N16 router, running TomatoUSB and signal is great, however the laptop drops the connection all the time, mostly when making large file transfers on the network. It took me weeks to find a driver that was stable enough to use somewhat, DC's were about every 2mins now I only get them every 30mins-2hours. And no, its not the network, it does this on the road as well, with many hotel WiFi and any other spot I connect to, I also found allot of other people with the same problem with this card.

So, I am looking at getting another Mini PCIe half card, I was looking at something like the Intel Ultimate N 633ANHMW, however I don't have a 3rd antenna, so not really much point in it and so was thinking that maybe the Intel 622AN.HMWWB would fit the bill, as it's about the same with only 2 antennas. So question really is, are these the best choices? Or did I pass something up? Maybe I should buy the Ultimate and pick up a 3rd antenna? Or is that worth the cost and trouble?

Answer:What Mini PCIe WiFi card?

There's really no need to hook up a third antenna to a 3-terminal wifi card. I've done it with an Intel 4965agn with my old gateway tablet and my dad's laptop and never noticed any problems with reception or speed.

Also make sure that the wireless card you select is explicitly compatible with your laptop. More and more manufacturers are blocking 3rd party mini-PCIe wifi cards via a whitelist in the BIOS (HP is the most notorious for this and I think Lenovo might be too). If you install that shiny new wifi card that happens to be missing from that whitelist, expect an unskippable error during boot up.

So if your laptop has this stupid "feature" you are pretty much down to three options: flash the BIOS with a hacked bin file containing a modified whitelist (very risky, can introduce functionality/ stability inhibiting bugs, huge possibility that you will brick your laptop), buy a mini-PCie card approved the laptop manufacturer ($$$, options are VERY limited), or purchase an external wireless USB/PC Card and disable the internal wifi (cheap, but redundant, one port will always be taken up if you want network access, signal might not be as good without an external antenna, adds bulk to the laptop).

I am thinking, maybe there was installed a 32bit ROM. Bechause, 2.99GB Ram(usabe) usally is a limit to 32bit OS. I have tried to reinstall the ROM, but the installation program says the same ISO Image is already installed. PcDoctor Dos says the RAM is Passed. Again, is it the right BIOS version?Eventually, how do i flash to the right wersion when the installation utility uppgrade stops and states that uppgrade is not nescessary?

Hello tecnic,

It has to do with the amount of ram installed, not the bios version you use.

I’m looking for a new Mini-PCI card for my Compaq X1000 laptop. Right now I have the Intel 2100 card and it works pretty well but it’s only 802.11b and I think the range could probably be better.

I was thinking of going with an Atheros Super-G card as I already have a 108G capable Router in my house, but really what I NEED is a card that has a really good range. There are so many times where I’ll be right on the edge of a wireless network and it’s almost like I can only connect if the wind is blowing in the right direction.

Answer:Mini-PCI WiFi card with really good range?

Range is really going to depend on the wires you have ran throughout the laptop, not the card you have. The alternative would be to get some type of PCMCIA wireless card with an external antenna.

I just got a U330 Ideapad and found it comes with a Broadcom wifi 802.11b/g card. I am thinking of exchanging it with a card that supports 802.11n, as well as having easier to work with Linux drivers (Broadcom has closed rivers that are a pain in the neck to activate: either you use ndiswrapper, or you recompile the kernel, or you have to write and muddle through a startup script -- no big deal, but why bother if there's a better alternative on two fronts?) . I found an old post where it said that, in the old times, many IBM Thinkpads would not boot with just any wifi card, as the BIOS would check the card against an internal list and refuse to boot if the card was not there. Aside from commenting on the practice, I hope that this is not the case with my new Ideapad. However, if it was the case, I would certainly appreciate learning which 802.11n card would be acceptable to the BIOS! Thanks for any insight

I have an HP DV6-6047cl Its an I7 sandy bridge laptop with HD 3000 and Radeon 128 bit HD6770 1GB discrete DX 11 graphics. 8GB ram 180 GB intel SSD with a 750 GB hybrid Seagate HDD in a caddy in the dvd tray. However I would like to have WIDI display. I read that you must use a card listed in the DV6 Service manual. There are three listed that meet the Intel Spec for WIDI Display N1000, Advanced N 6150 w Wimax or N6230 these are all Centrino. I found them on Ebay. Which wouldb the best for Wirless display?

Hello,
I have been dealing with this issue for a while now. I installed 8gb of ram, and was running Ubuntu all was fine and dandy, but for work i need windows for most things, so i did a nice fresh install on another hard drive. I was doing some work one day when i saw windows say "8gb install (3.99gb usable)" Now the installation is legit and 64 bit. I started doing research, found people having this issue but most where solved by bent cpu pin or settings in bios. Now my ram is 4 sticks, and two different brands/speed. The timings are all the same 9 - 9 - 9 - 24 , the Corsair set was 1600 @ 1.65v and the Patriot was 1333 @ 1.5V. I messed with all the settings and resets until I was blue in the face, but nothing fixed the problem. So I just lived with it, until today when i pulled out the corsair sticks or ram for another project. Now I booted up windows and saw "4gb installed (1.99gb usable)" . Has anyone else ever had this issue ????? I have been working on and building computers all my life and never have encountered this. I have a dedicated graphics card, its some cheap GT 520. Im just really confused. Thanks !

Question: Half size windows

Hi ThereMy problem is that often when I open folders, they only open at half size.I know I can maximize (X) and I know a better way is to drag the window to full size and when I close it, R/C on taskbar then close.Taking above points into consideration, I believe that somewhere I have my settings ticked somewhere to make them open at half size. The reason being, that quite recent files that have been saved, open at half size.Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer:Half size windows

OPen a windows. Change it to the size you want. Then close using the X at the top right to make it remeber the last size you used. Then you can carry on using the right click on the task bar to close.

Answer:Will this wifi mini card work with my laptop z585?

hi forumguy,

I'm afraid that Wi-Fi card won't work on the Ideapad Z585 as it's not on the supported list (see page 88 of the hardware maintenance manual). Also, most lenovo machines have a whitelist that restricts unsupported WLAN module on a specific mini PCI-E slot. If you insert an unsupported card, it will give you an "Unsupported wireless network device detected" error message (you will not have this problem though if you have an unrestricted / modified BIOS).

I disabled my old card in device manager, then restarted, and then uninstalled the card and the intel software, restarted and then shut down. Took out the Intel card and put in the Asus one. When I install the drivers, my comp freezes right at the end when the card is fully registered into the system.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks

Hello, what mini pci express wireless card can I put into a IdeaCentre H500s? Do all or only certain work?

Answer:Which mini pcie Wifi Card in Ideacentre H500s

hi coxmetal,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

You should get a WLAN card with a Lenovo FRU tag 11200354
Again it should have a tag sticker which says 11200354 else it will not work.

This may be kinda hard since this part is not for sale anymore.. If you can find online reseller selling this part number that's great. If not Is uggest you opt to a USB WLAN Dongle like this
    http://www.ebay.com/sch/USB-Wi-Fi-Adapters-Dongles-/45002/i.html

Can I upgrade my mini wifi card in z580, win 7. It has an Intel 20200048 2200n in it now. I want to upgrage to take advantage of 802.11ac router. If so, what cards are compatable?

Answer:IdeaPad Z580: Can I upgrade the mini wifi card

Hi dmerrell, welcome to the forum.

These are the cards you can upgrade to, although there isn't any A capabilities in any one of them. so you won't be able to use your AC Router, and connect to the 5Ghz band.

Hello,

My A30-203 has a built-in wifi antenna, and the manual indicates that a mini pci wifi card can be installed.
However, no part number is specified. Toshiba tech supports had no information when I rang them because the laptop is too old.

They suggested that I search on eBay. A quick search returned numerous wifi card models, but compatibility with the A30 is not confirmed.
I would be grateful if someone could please provide me the part number of a mini pci wifi card that is known to work in the A30-203, without modification or covering of pins.

Many thanks,
T.

Answer:Part number of mini-pci WIFI card for Satellite A30-203

Hi

As far as I know not all Satellite A30 were equipped with an Wlan card. The Wlan card was optional. What I know is that this notebook was compatible with the miniPCI WLan 802.11b

From my point of view you could use Intel and Atheros minPCi WLan cards which supports the 802.11 A B or G standard?
I don?t see any reasons why this should not be possible?

I'm working on a Dell laptop for which I now have two seemingly perfectly good WIFI minicards, the original "g" card and a much better "n" Atheros-based card [DW1702]. In either/both cases, no issues with drivers or function so far as Windows goes, but with the antenna leads properly hooked up, it cannot detect a thing. I've tried it with two different AP's that everything else is happy with, but it shows nothing at all period. cannot detect signal.

If I plug a USB WIFI stick in, works like a charm.

I'm literally stumped. Do not know even what to go look for at this point. Obviously I've uninstalled/reinstalled several times, each time with no drama - everything loads right up and the icons show, the taskbar panel looks right, the driver detail, protocol stacks, everything - all looks perfect.

?

Answer:Good WLAN mini-card can't detect WIFI

Hi zapp

What Windows version and Service Pack is this laptop using?

In device manager you have no yellow ! marks at all, if you do by what device?

I would as a first thing uninstall the wifi driver and any wireless management app it adds, then reinstall the Chipset for that laptop and reboot and then install the wifi driver only, may need to do a custom install so you do not install the cards software management app.

Reboot and try the Windows wifi manager, hopefully should be the small wifi icon in the tray, if not look in Network and Sharing centre.

Do you have a firewall installed other than the native Windows one, if so disable it to test as some firewalls can at times block via MAC address a new card, until its allowed past.

*edit before I forget open a CMD prompt and type ipconfig /all and paste the results for us.

Hi

My motherboard got a port called Mini PCIE. It looks similar to the standard PCIE port but is much smaller (I guess that's why it's called mini ) AND it appears to be tilted 90 degrees to the right if I'm right. So I would have to place the card vertically. Space seems to be limited. Of course I could be wrong on that.

Board type is MSI AM1i

Photo is below. The port in question is just next to the two SATA data ports. (actually on the left, in the second pictures)
I'd like to install a Wifi card there. Please tell me. How and where? Where am I supposed to place the antennas? Do you know any good cards? I didn't buy the card yet, only the motherboard

Thanks a lot

^^ The mini PCIE port is just above (again, next to the white-blue capacitors and left to the sata ports), and lies vertically in the picture with a number tag written to it

guys this one has me stumped cold. Dell Inspiron laptop, very clean software wise, had original mini-card [internal] which could not detect any wifi networks - known good wifi AP's. All the windows checked showed the device working properly but I finally replaced it with one of the better "n" cards out there. Same thing all over again. Put it right next to a working AP, cannot detect a thing. Antennae is hooked up properly.

If I plug a good WIFI stick into USB, it works immediately, no drama.

I have no idea what is preventing this from detecting anything. What should I be looking for?

Answer:WLAN Mini-card Good, but cannot detect WIFI ??

Hi zapp22,

It appears that the 'Wireless Card' is currently 'Disabled'; please check its status in 'BIOS' and 'enable' it if needed. To access 'BIOS' you may follow the steps listed below:
- Power off the laptop > Power it back on and at 'Dell splash screen', repeatedly tap 'F 2 key' (BIOS screen should appear) > Usually 'Dell Inspiron' laptops have a 'category' named 'Advanced' > Ensure that WLAN is enabled > 'Save Settings' and 'Exit'
(Note: BIOS setup may vary based on different laptop models)

If the wireless card still does not detect any networks in 'Windows', try tapping <Function><F2> or only <F2> if the previous key combination does not work. This is the 'radio control' for the 'Wireless Card' installed in the system.

Hope this helps. Do reply with the finding; would be glad to assist.

Hi,
I am trying to install a PA3300U (Atheros) mini PCI internal WiFi card and have a basic question that I'm hoping someone will be able to answer. There are two cables, colour coded white and black (under the wireless card cover on the case) that I assume are for the internal antenna. The question is where do these attach to on the mini PCI card (unfortunately I have no fitting instructions for the card)?
I will be very grateful for any assistance with this.
Regards, Dave.

Answer:Satellite A30-303 Installing internal WiFi mini PCI card

Hi

I did not actually see one of the Atheros cards, but on other brands there are two connectors which are marked with MAIN and AUX.
Normally a white cable goes to the MAIN and a black to the AUX.

Hi all,  I brought a new mini wifi card for my laptop so i could get 5gh wifi due to an upgrade in my broadband. I did some research and found that supposidly the Intel Centrion Advanced 6205 card is compatible with my laptop. I downloaded the most recent drivers and install the card. Device manager see's it and states drivers are installed but has error code 10 -' device cannot start. I check the registry which did not seem to have the problems in as reported by other forums (something about upper and lower filters)I when into bios setup and restored defaults. Tried down-grading the driver to an older version but still the same problem.I even took it out and re-installed the card. So basically does anybody know for sure if this card is compatble OR have I brought a dud card?My only thought is that if it was dud surely device manager would not even see it? Windows 7 home is my OS Any help or pointers greatly appreciated. Regard, Gav

So I bought my laptop, a Pavilion 17-f113dx a little over 3 years ago.  I am swapping the drive for an ssd drive and I thought while I go to all the trouble of disassembling the laptop that I would change out the wifi card with a dual wifi/bluetooth card to improve wireless performance. I understand that there may be a whitelist in the bios of compatabile cards for a laptop this old.  Where would I be able to find that list?  Or is there a solution short of installing a hacked bios?

Answer:Compatible wifi dual card for 17-f113dx

Hi: There is no whitelist, but there is almost a bigger problem... 1. The notebook requires extensive disassembly to get to the wireless card.  If you can overcome that, then #2 is the killer. 2.  On most of these newer HP notebooks with single band wlan cards, there is only one antenna connected to the card, and there isn't a second one present. A dual band card such as the Intel 7260 N or AC requires 2 antennas to work. It will take even more disassembly including the display panel area to run the 2nd antenna. Do not rely on the picture in the service manual which normally shows two antennas. You will need to physically inspect your notebook's situation before buying a replacement card. If it has two antennas, then you are good to go. I would recommend the Intel 7260 dual band N or AC card for your 3 year old notebook.

The version of 1397 WLan Mini-card is 4.176.75.21 (Driver date 01/10/2008), just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64.
It recognizes other wireless connections, but not mine. The router is TP-LINK TD-8951ND. I proved installing/ uninstalling the Mini-Card, updating drivers several times, run an online-dell diagnosis tool, and checking DeviceManager/Properties/Advanced to try with other antenna channels (Fragmentation Threshold, IBSS, Locally Administrated MAC Address, etc.) but nothing works, and I can not access via web the IP of the router.
Any suggestions?

My fiancee and I currently have the Dell Inspiron 17R SE laptop with the Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230, and it has worked for a few months now up until the Monday of last week. While on the internet, my fiancee was noticing her wifi speed slowed down to a crawl. She performed speed tests to find out that the speed was not as high as it used to be. She updated drivers for the computer, as well as removed any clutter that would cause the wifi slowdown.
When we tried many options, they did not give us the results that we were looking for. Finally, after some process of elimination, we concluded that our wifi card needed a replacement. I don't want to get any old card to use and then find out that it doesn't fit or is not compatible with Windows 10. I have been taking my time to research what could be compatible to improve my laptop computer, but I have been coming up short.

What I would like to know is what wifi cards are compatible with our Dell computer so that we can get this replaced as soon as possible without having to pay out the nose for unneeded computer repair?

I bought my wife a Lenovo T500 about 18 months ago. A few days ago Vista went up in smoke; startup never completes because something died and the diagnostic service isn't present. I spent a few hours trying to fix it and now I'm considering wiping Vista (rightly so!) and installing Win7. I'm not sure which edition to buy. My wife runs Thunderbird, IE8, UFile (taxes), Sims 2, Sim City 4, MS Office 2007 (the first one with ribbons), iTunes and not much else. She accesses a ReadyNAS box for extra storage and for printing. She uses the following USB devices:- digital camera- webcam- ipod nanoHer laptop is a Lenovo T500 from just over a year ago; I think it has 3Gb memory, integrated and discrete GPUs and I can't remember the CPU.I don't know which edition to get:Home Premium / Profession - I think the only major difference is the XP mode in Pro32bit / 64bit - I think 64bit would probably work but I'm hesitant to buy it just in case.Any suggestions?  What version of Win7 is everyone using on their T500?Thanks

Answer:(T500) Windows 7 - 32bit or 64bit? Home Premium or Professional?

Either 32 or 64 is fine for 3GB of RAM.   If you ever think you'll go to 4GB you'll need the 64 bit version to fully support that.   You may need to check on 64 bit compatibility for some of your applications like the games.   Thunderbird, IE8, Office and iTunes are good on 64 bit (though they actually still run in 32 bit mode). One other function I use in the Pro version is remote desktop but most people won't need either that or XP mode.

Hi, I am having some problem on my DVD playback after i install windows media player 11.
No sound during playback and size shrink to half of its original size.

Can someone teach me how to solve tat?

Answer:No sound on DVD playback and the size shrink to half of its original size

Hi,

do you have a codec pack and/or a separate DVD-player installed on your system? If not, then try it, because playing DVD?s with MediaPlayer 11 is not very comfortable and
you encounter errors e.g. like you have.

I suggest you: download a codec pack (e.g. K-lite or something else: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Codec_Pack_All_in_1.htm) install it and maybe try to use another dvd player like "Media Player Classic" which plays almost every videofile/DVD/etc. which is existent.

Hope I could help you
