Lenovo x1 won't start after cleaning.

Question: Lenovo x1 won't start after cleaning.

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and this is my first post here, I hope anyone can help me. I recently bought refurbised Lenovo ThinkPad X1 model 1294-A2Y and everything worked fine until I opened it. The reason for opening was looking for battery info, since the battery I got with the laptop was bad and I wanted to replace it. Here's what I did, i opened all as instructed, unscrewd all the parts, take the keyboard off but i didn't touch the processor cooling system. Than I put it all back together. When I pushed the power on button nothing happened, the laptop won't turn on. Than i tare it apart again, plug the battery and the power cord off and pressed the power on button for 20 seconds. After pluging the battery and the power cord laptop started fine, but the problem is that it works only for a few minutes and than turns off all of a sudden. And than it won't start again, and I need to tare all apart in order to turn it off again. Did anyone had a similar situation? Can anyone help me with this? Thank you in advance

Preferred Solution: Lenovo x1 won't start after cleaning.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I've had a Lenovo Y580 for about an year now and it has started to heat up to really high temperatures about 65 degrees on the hdd and above 90 on the graphics card and cpu. I contacted the Lenovo support center in my region and the person advised me to clean my laptop instead of sending it for repair. So my question is if I open up the laptop to reach the motherboard will it void warranty and if I decide to replace the thermal paste will this void the warranty?

Answer:Cleaning the Lenovo y580

hi Te4ko,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Opening the computer will not void your warranty, same as replacing/upgrading some parts.
but, damages on parts or cosmetics during the replacement won't be covered.

Just be extra careful on opening the system and here check this manual of your system disassembly.
Y480 / Y580 disassembly guide

check this article about warranty concerns
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/Will-changing-your-keyboard-void-the-warran...

also check this one that I use for thermal paste replacement.

Hope this helps,
Cheers

Hi, I've recently just purchased the lenovo Y50. I noticed that the ventalation areas on the bottom of the laptop are accumulating a lot of dust. I was wondering how to clean this? Should I take off the bottom cover and try to blow the dust out or take some kind of wet sponge and swipe across the exterior of the vent? Thanks!

Answer:Cleaning Dust off of Lenovo Y50

Welcome to the forum! I would try using a can of compressed air to blow out the fan and ventilation grills.  Use short bursts of air to blow out the passages as long burst may over rev the fan.  Also be sure to blow air in both the intake and exhaust grills to remove dust from both directions.  That always works best for me.  Canned compressed air is available at any office supply store or big box store.  I would avoid using a damp cloth or sponge on the grills until you have the insides blown out of all the dust bunnies.  Getting the inner accumulated dust wet may solidify it when dried if it isn't totally removed. If you have any removable covers on the bottom that have vent slits you can remove these for cleaning.  As for removing the entire laptop bottom that would take quite a bit of disassembling to accomplish that chore.

Not for the first time I've been attempting to remove some of the pre-installed stuff on my Thinkpad E335 Win 7 Pro x64 and once again doing so has rendered the system unusable. I'm not talking about trial software versions and so on - there was none of that unwanted stuff on this machine - but there are a lot of Lenovo system utilities which cause it to be rather sluggish starting up though perhaps less so once up and running. I also installed Win 8.1 on the system and there is a marked contrast in responsiveness, Win 8.1 being far the lighter footed. Yet 8.1 has none of these system utilities which to my mind says simply that they are not necessary. Yet it seems they are so integrated into Win 7 that removing them damages 7 itself.

So, unless Lenovo users are confident of their ability to recover a borked system, I strongly advise not trying to remove any of this stuff and I'm also wondering how the upcoming Win 10 upgrade will deal with all these integrated utilities. If I only had the original Win 7 system I would be treading very carefully.

I don't know whether Lenovo are alone adding all this system management stuff - I guess not - so other makes might need to be treated carefully too.

Lenovo is not alone, all the manufacturers are bundling software they think we need. I wish hardware manufacturers would only supply us with the necessary drivers and leave the rest to us. Afterall, we only need sites like MajorGeeks that tests and hosts software programs. And there's the Support Forums with invaluable advice.

Hi. I was wondering if you recommend cleaning under touchpad. After a year some dirt accumulated under my touchpad. Sometimes when I have wet hands drops of water slip under touchpad as well. Is it essential to clean under my touchpad and can it affect other pieces of hardware like graphic card or CPU if I don't clean it?

Hello, I have a Lenovo T400s that was full of dust, so because of high temperature and slow performance, I decided to clean the cooler all by myself. After carefully removing every single part, I managed to reach the cooler and clean it. I've successfully reattached every single piece of hardware, with temperature now reaching a maximum of 70 degrees Celsius in high-performance mode. Still, there are a bunch of issues that I'm yet to repair: 1. The overall performance of the laptop is slower than before, with the browser and all the other apps clearly slowed down by something, even after starting the laptop. 2. Sometimes, whenever I plug in the power cord, the laptop freezes all of a sudden. It happened to me several times either when the OS is loading or when I was working on the laptop. After I cleaned the laptop, I got an error saying "Plugged in, not recharging," but I've fixed it by removing and reconnecting the battery. 3. The Bluetooth adapter doesn't seem to work anymore. Whenever I try to connect a Bluetooth mouse, the laptop freezes. Any idea on the source of these problems and how could I fix them? Thanks in advance. I'm running Winodws 8 and the standard hardware configuration of the laptop, with no upgrades.

Is it possible to clean the dust inside the lappy. or fans by the user itself? If skripatch is reading this could you please tell me you cpu temp when it is in idle ( just surfing) in power saver mode and in high perf mode separately?

I read whole Ideapad section every day and sometimes Lenovo 3000. Just do not have time sometimes to reply. I try to reply every case I can handle... Mine is about 55-60 permanently (CPU).To clean dust you have to vent it by pressed air or take off that part of Y510 that s above cooler. Usually I vent cooler once a month - that's more than enough.

Hi all.
This morning I removed the cover from my PC. a Philips Freevents LS1600, to blow out some dust & now it will not start. It is receiving power (the displays panel shows the clock & the symbol that suggests the PC is in sleep mode) and when I press the start button it tries to power up but very quickly dies (after about only a second) . Although the display panel contiues to show the clock & sleep symbol it now will not respond at all to the start button unless I unplug it from the mains, leave for a few seconds then plug it back in. Then the same thing happens all over again when I try to start it. Logically it would seem that I have probably disturbed someting inside, although I did not directly touch any components. Anyone got any suggestions or is this one for a professional technician to look at?

On the shop's website it is stated that opening my laptop will result in warranty being voided. On the other hand, taking my laptop for dust cleaning to a certified service can last for even two weeks. I remember taking my previous PC for CPU cooler change and it was there for 2 weeks. What I wanted to do was clean the cooler of the CPU and see if the WiFi antenna was maybe unplugged because I was having almost no signal. I did open it *carefully* without even scratching a screw, cleaned the cooler, noticed that the main wire of the WiFi card was unplugged, while the auxiliary one was plugged correctly, plugged it back and closed the laptop, again, *carefully*. Can any of this void my warranty? Also, I planned to swap the HDD with an SSD I've had for some time. Could that represent a problem because I am changing some parts.I am not a certified servicer but I can certainyl say that I'm experienced enough to even disassemble the whole laptop and put it back again (no, I haven't done this nor do I plan to) without leaving a mark so why would opening it void my warranty if I make no damage to it.I just want to know whether I still have my warranty. Thank you in advance.

Answer:Will opening my Lenovo Z50-75 and cleaning it void my warranty?

Hi MrVene ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

In general sense , cleaning or opening the chassis or upgrading would not void the warranty as long as there won't be any induce damage to the parts during and after such change. (additional reference discussion here and here )

For the same reasons why OEM have the hardware manual dissassembly guide made available for free download and Lenovo Service Training . This may also be different on regional basis so having technical support informed first is still the best way to proceed so that proper guidelines are checked and that there is documentation for both party to reference.

Hope this help answer your query.

Hi whitecheese131,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Check if you have active warranty for your tech support in warranty service.
Else review your system manual that can be downloaded from the support site for your model and check if there is also a module available from service training. With an air compressed can, you can blow dust particles safely from the sytemboard and filters.

Highlighted links can help as reference guide on opening the chassis and if you lack tools then a service center nearest you may be a better option.

After unplugging the power cord from my computer I can't seem to start up my computer. I tried another cord and even another wall socket but it didn't work. The motherboard receives power because several lights light up (like the power and reset switch on my mobo) but when I press the power on button nothing happens. I got a ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 motherboard and a OCZ ModXStream Pro 500W power supply.

If you find that your fan is running more often or at higher speeds than it used to, or your system is running warmer than it used to, it could be a sign that the fan and heat sink could be clogged with dust or lint.  As air is drawn in from the bottom on these systems and then blow through the fins of heat sink before exiting on the left side of the system, just or lint may be drawn in more frequently if the system is frequently operated on a bed, blanket or other cloth surface, or in a dusty environment. If your system is out of warranty and might be running warmer than normal as described above, you might clean the fan and heat sink to lower system fan speeds and operating temperature. First, remove AC and battery and turn system over.  Locate the fan cover.  Remove the 2 screws and lift up the cover from the edge. Next, remove the 3 screws marked by the arrows to remove the fan - carefully locate and uplug the fan connector from the system board as you lift it out.  After removing the fan, it should look like this...  Using a can of compressed air, blow out the area, blow the dust out of the fan. Clean out the heat sink fins by blowing air through the outside vents so that the dust is blow back toward the the fan locations.  Make sure the fins are all free from lint, fibers and dust.  After all dust has been cleared out, carefully reinstall the fan and 3 mounting screws.  A magnetic screwdrive... Fan IssueI've cleaned my laptop sometime this month after about two years of use. Popped it open, blew everything, popped it back. I saw a post before posting this about removing the battery before cleaning so i'm considering going back and doing that. I usually keep it running in high performance because I use it for gaming. Core/CPU usage is almost never above 10%, currently sitting at 2%-4%. Memory is usually high because I only have a 500GB SSD, currently at 58%. The other stats (disk, network, and GPU), sit at 0 (although GPU will boost to about 60% when gaming). Currently, I have it in balanced mode and set the maximum core usage to 40% and it's still going strong. Any suggestions?  Gaming IssueAlso on a side note, if anyone can assist me with a gaming issue I'm having. My computer has a 960 GTX, i74720GQ @ 2.6GHz, and 500 GB SSD (samsung evo--upgraded from 1TB HD) and I'm having issues with my FPS in-game. It locks at 30 or FPS across all games. I do have two GPU's (integrated and 960 GTX) and have always used the GTX as the primary source, uncapped in-game graphics, limited background interference (services, programs, etc.) and possibly other things I can't think of but cannot release the in-game FPS cap. Even when settings are at the lowest settings. In previous times, if I were to uncap, it'd reach above 60 easily consistently but now when it's uncapped, it never goes above 60. One might ask what changed? After upgrading from HDD to SSD, I had to reset my ... Read more

Hello,

I've cleaned my CPU box - carefully, using a dry paint brush & compressed air. I was careful to hold the can vertically, to prevent any condensate from forming on the parts. When I connected everything back again, the computer just wouldn't start. There would be absolutely no response, no fans spinning or anything. I had the CMOS configured to enable me to turn the computer on if I pressed any key on the keyboard. Needless to say, that didn't work either.

I've tried taking out my power supply & replacing it with a good, working one. With the same result - computer won't start.

My question is: does it mean my motherboard is dead? Is there a way to ascertain that, to rule out any other problems (maybe a wire got disconnected, or something, though I've checked that already).

Thanks,
Daniel.

I removed the battery and the power cord, tried the 10 times power button press trick, still no result. Does resetting the CMOS resolve the problem? At the first glance, it seems the laptop receives power because the fingerprint reader LED is turned on, but it turns off as soon as I disconnect the charger. Any suggestions? Running XP Home SP3
Before I start the cleaning process I want to know if there is something specific that any of you are aware of for this problem.
The computer and all peripherals including two external HD (auto software on the external HD has been disabled and the services disabled) are shut down normally in the evening. In the morning, the computer and HD are on by themselves! I have no auto shutdown or start-up apps installed. The hard disc is quite as a church mouse with no extraneous hard disc activity that might indicate spyware/malware. Is there something specific that I could/should look for instead of a full cleaning?

My primary protection is AntiVir Personal with Threatfire. Each Sunday, I will run two of the following at random: SuperAntiVirus or MalwareBytes, then either Spybot, Lavasoft Adaware, or aSquared. My system is usually always clean.

This started only this week but forget exactly the day. There was a Microsoft Update I believe on Wednesday.

Answer:Question before I start the cleaning process

I'm not to clear on what you are asking us. If you are trying to say your PC is turning on by itself then you most likely in the wrong forum. This would probably mean you have configured your computers to wakeup on some kind of network access.

If you want to be sure your PC is clean then stop delaying and just run the cleaning procedure; otherwise, post in the Networking Forum.

My PC is a Dell Dimension 9150 two years old, running XP Media Centre 2002 u/g to 2005 and SP3 v 3311. I have a BT Vision Home Hub wireless network which shows a 7616kB connection speed

My pc takes exactly 4mins from when the desktop appears until I can open anything, this includes the pc finding the net. This is since I installed SP3.
When desktop has loaded the Netgear logon icon appears green in the Task Bar. After 4mins Spysweeper and Bitdefender icons load in Task Bar annd Netgear goes red. After 1 min Netgear goes green and the wireless network connection icon appears and connects.

I have reinstalled my Netgear programme and updated my wireless card driver. My signal is v good at 100% and speed is 54Mbps but will drop to 1Mbps and low signal.

I had trouble with wininstaller but have managed to update it and can install software.

This all seems to have happened since I ran Ashampoo WinOptimiser, Regmechanic and CCleaner. I have recently installed an HPC5280 all in one printer which is shared by the oonly other pc on my home network.

Having run all the Cleaning tools my start up time has not been improved at all. Only when Spybot completely deleted Winclear, on its second run at start up, did the pc start as I would hope; but this was a one off!

Attached are log files from SAS and combofix. there is no log from MBAM as no malware was found. The other logs follow.

Hi,

I was referred here by a friend who had problems with a similar virus a few months ago.

I believe I have the 'security center virus' on my vista home edition 32-bit latop. I have downloaded the programs from malware removal guide that I need to run, however can't install any of them, the error message 'windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. I can't even run ccleaner which was already installed.

Luckily I'm using a friends laptop to get on this site.

I'd really appreciate any help you could offer.

Answer:Unable to start the cleaning process

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please download and run the below tool named Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) which may help allow other programs to run.
There are 4 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.

Vista and Win7 users need to right click and choose Run as Administrator

You only need to get one of them to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.

Rkill.exe
Rkill.com
Rkill.scr
Rkill.pif
Once you've gotten one of them to run then try to immediately run the following.

Download and save the below to your PC (save it anywhere you can find it. The Desktop is fine). Then double click on it to run it.

AVPFind.bat

It should take a couple minutes to run. You will see a black command prompt window while it is running and it should close when it is finished. Once it finishes, attach the c:\avplog.txt file that is will hopefully create as long as the malware does not block the batch file from running. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

Now download and Run exeHelper

Please download exeHelper to your desktop.
Double-click on exeHelper.com to run the fix.
A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.
A log file named log.txt will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com
Attach the log.txt file to your next message.
Note: If the window shows a message that sa... Read more

Answer:windows wont start after cleaning cpu fan

QuoteHello today i cleaned my stock cpu fan with tap water dried it up and put it back in. I am guessing that some residual water that may have been under the cap of the fan body got whipped out when it spun up and this water may have made contact with sensitive electronics on the main board.Introducing water of all things to this was not a very good idea.      Its best to use canned air or a vacuum cleaner. Although canned air is safer since a vacuum cleaner with dry air can build up a static charge and arc to components when sucking up dust. Both methods vacuum or air pressure you have to be careful your not removing any jumpers from motherboard etc.If your lucky you can give the computer a few days to air dry and see if it then behaves. This drying process can be accelerated with a hair dryer, but you do not want to overheat components with a hair dryer either.  You may have damaged your system permanently by this act of using water to clean the CPU fan. If your lucky you will only have to replace the heatsink/fan and be back up and running. There is a small circuit board out of view at the core of this CPU fan that sends magnetic pulses to a magnet that is shaped like a ring under the center cap. If there was still a small drop of water in there under IC legs when powered it could have sent 5 volts to the 3rd wire the tach, and I am unsure as to if sending 5 volts directly to this tach leg if it will destroy a motherboard or not as for I have... I had a persistent problem with this: "Malware.Trace from HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Network\UID, Unable to remove Malware.Trace from UID registry". It kept returning immediately after each Mbam scan.

I decided to run the Windows XP Cleaning Procedure as detailed here on Mbam and followed READ & RUN and everything else step-by-step.

After completing the procedure for combofix.exe and the resulting restart, the computer will not start properly, not even in safe mode. I get as far as the Windows user name and password prompt, click ok, my wallpaper loads and then nothing else.

When trying Windows Recovery Console a message reads: "Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.

Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware.

Please check the Windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information."

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Does it revert back to the login screen or does it just sit there with nothing but your wallpaper? Does pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL bring up Task Manager?

Are you sure you are booting to the Recovery Console? Are you using your Windows bootable CD or are you trying to run the Recovery Console installed before running ComboFix? Do you have your CD?

Have you tried what is mentioned here? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314477

Hey Guys, Just finished cleaning out my computer like a do every month and after today i put everything together and it wont start, I have absolutely no cash and need to fix this even if i have to use duct tape and bubblegum!

The only thing i know that doesnt have any problems is my video card because i went to the computer store i bought it at and they tested it and it works flawlessly.

When the computer boots up the fans and led lights turn on but nothing at all displays on the screen, every 1 to 2 seconds the fans die down for a sec then go back up to their previous speed. Also out of the 5 indicator lights on the 4870x2 the middle light blinks about every second or two as well.

All i did is clean it out very gently and i dont know what on earth the problem could be.

I Have some videos here that might help.

Answer:Finished Cleaning out computer, WONT START NOW!!!

Check the basics first:

Make sure you plugged everything back in (some Motherboards have 2 power connectors, etc)

Make sure the CPU heat sink is firmly secured (no wobble, etc)

If it shuts it'self off it's either an Overheat issue, or a "wrong cord in wrong spot" connection - and the computer is preventing itself from doing damage.

Make sure all connections are clean, and firm. IF anything is bent - do not use it.

If you removed your RAM, video card, harddrive or anything else - make very sure you put it firmly back into place (and in the correct position)

If you have onboard video - try pulling out your video card and using onboard instead - just to see if it boots, if it boots - it IS a problem with the video card, although this doesn't mean it's "ruined" just possibly not powered/plugged in properly, or recieving enough juice from the motherboard+connectors. Also make sure the monitor is plugged in securely.

Hey!

I have an Satellite P20 that is acting strange. I've been cleaned the keyboard (removed it, took it apart and cleaned all the keys) but when i boot it up now (I have connected the keyboard) It goes *beep beep* *beep beep beep beep* on me (sounds like one of those things at the hospital). If I wait for some time it eventually boots up XP but then some keys (5%) are not responding (S and arrow down to name some).

I've tried to boot up with the keyboard disconnected and that works like a charm.

So is it the keyboard thats faulty? ( I rather not buy a new one just to get the same problem) or is it keyboard connector or me doing it wrong (I have disconnect and connected the keyboard many times)

I'm very thankful for any help or tips that I can get.

Best Regards

/Martin

Answer:Satellite P20 - beeps at start up after keyboard cleaning

This is strange but maybe the keyboard is faulty as you said.
Or you don?t have the keyboard connected to mainboad correctly. Check this again.

Maybe one key is always pushed and so get the beeps. Check this.

I opened my case for its monthly cleaning and saw dust buildup on under the GPU fans. I proceeded to remove the graphics card. It gave me some resistance even after flipping the little switch. It released after a little "crack" sound. It wasn't big. It was enough for me to look around at the motherboard, but I didn't see anything and the motherboard was still solidly in place. I didn't think much of it after that. I got my compressed air and started blowing out the dust from both the computer and the GPU. I hold the can upright and spray stuff pretty directly. At one point I noticed I could actually see the stream from the can...it didn't look quite right. Again, I wasn't obviously spraying fluid and at this point I really don't think I was, but it's in my head.

Link to computer booting:

When I boot up
1. My mobo screen appears
2. Windows start screen appears
3. Windows starts to launch and then fails
4. My mobo screen appears again

I have tried re-seating my GPU, I have re-plugged most of the connectors. I have looked for any physical signs of damage. I'm not savvy enough to really figure this problem out...unless it is a "re-seat component x" type issue, I'll need to take it in to a professional. I thought I would start here in diagnosing the problem. ANY help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Help! Windows wont start after cleaning tower

shake the can a few times before spraying in future

have you tried safe mode to see if it boots into windows

try a cmos reset

try a new data cable on the hard drive

try re-seating the ram, make sure it is seated, the clips clicking over does not mean that it is

check if it stays up without rebooting with the drives disconnected

if it does just reconnect the hard drive and see if it stable

Hi, Recently I decided to clean out my Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop, given that it just so dusty it was constantly overheating. I spent an ardious 3 hours to remove all of the factory sealed screws by hand, then I dusted out the CPU fan with an air spray can, and finally applied new thermal paste. After assembling it back together, I come to find that it will no longer turn on! When I try to charge it, the lights on the front pulse for a second, then cut off, then pulse etc. If I had to guess I would say this is a CPU or PSU problem, and perhaps I failed to assemble the CPU back together properly? I was also grounded the whole time. I'm almost certain everything is back in place, including the wires. Any help would be appreciated. EDIT: There is also a clicking noise coming from the PSU.

Answer:Laptop won't start after cleaning and applying new thermal paste

Did you try to run it without the battery or only on battery? Is the clicking noise coming from the external PSU?

Hi!

I've been browsing some of the postings here to learn about how to start trying to rid my computer of all of the parasitic processes we've picked up. I gather that the first step is to install HijackThis and to post the log here, and that a later step is to install Spywareblaster and spywareguard, and maybe some other programs. Here, then, is a description of my situation followed by my HijackThis log, and I'd be very grateful if you can help me.

I am running WindowsXP on a home computer. My kids have downloaded and installed various programs from the internet in the past, and I am by no means sure that they have always been careful. Lately, the following symptoms have been turning up:

1) Tremendous amounts of pop-up advertisements;
2) An error message any time I try to log off, saying that RUNDLL is not responding, and asking me whether I want to end the process;
3) An error message any time I log on, saying that there was an error loading msiefr40.dll, that access is denied;
4) Our CD-RW drive has stopped working entirely--It doesn't recognize disks and ejects them.

I suspect that this last error might be a hardware issue, but I mention it anyway, because you never know . . .

What are my next steps, please? Thanks very much.

I have some problems with the Lenovo software. Lenovo Account Portal does not launch Lenovo Companion and Lenovo Settings. Also, Lenovo Solution Center is missing from the Start Menu. The second problem is that some tiles are blank in Start Menu. Seemingly it's the apps that aren't Metro. I'm not sure when the problem started, but I think it was like that since I got the PC. If I right click the apps, the only option will be "Pin to Start", and with some apps: Share and Rate. Here's a picture of the problem:I did already try:Restarting the PC.Doing scannow, DISM, and scannow again.Fixing Registry errors with CCleaner.Updating BIOS and drivers. What can I do to fix the problem?

How do I stop the creation of the "Lenovo" folder being created in my start menu every time I restart my system? I have my start menu orginized how I want it, its not the chaos must users have. I delete the folder every time, and it just comes back. Not a major issue but sure is annoying! Any suggestions or help will be appreacated.

Answer:Lenovo Y580 Creates "Lenovo" folder in start menu after every reboot.

A Lenovo folder on your start menu? Where exactly on the start menu  is it, and have you tried opening it? ?t may be an entry in the registry? Have you scanned your system recently? Please go here  http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ and see if a scan will find malware. Checkmark all appropriate boxes and disable your antivirus just before you start the scan Please remember to turn it on again afterwards. You can also do a shot(quick) scan by going to Start>type mrt.exe into the RUN box, enter then choose Quick scan. Let us know the results,if it is malware the malware forum would be the place to go to, if not malware, then we can take it from there.

Lenovo G570Model 4334 Hi Whenever i switch on my laptop it stays on the Lenovo start up screen for about 30 seconds, and then powers off. During the 30 seconds the laptop fans runs louder than usual but nothing else happens. Ocassionally it does get past that stage but then takes a long time on the 'starting windows' screen. I've used the onekey recovery to return it to my backup and even returned it to the factory settings but the problem persists. I'm unsure of what to next and how the problem can be solved. Any Suggestions? Thanks.

try to load safe mode when you see lenovo logo at start-up. ( f8 )if it works, press f8 again to load "last known good configuration"otherwise, check your ram sticks ( remove/replace/swap ) and check if your hdd is working properly.do you have any heating issue by the way? did you make changes recently?

After a routine Trend Micro Internet Security scan it discovered I had Trojans lodged in Restore File of axillary drive (not C:\). So I made visible 'Show Hidden Files and Folders' in order to delete those files. But when I clicked on the System Restore directory on the affected drive I got an Access Denied warning. Even after making the drive readable I got the same warning and cannot open the directory to delete the bad files. So I did a System Restore flush then rebooted to Safe Mode to proceed with the "Malware Cleaning Guide" cleaning. The first scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware showed no vulnerabilities. Then the online scan from Panda showed the same Trojans lodged in Restore File of axillary drive. But then the log file from the Panda scan would not save to my computer. Am currently running the online Kapersky scan and online Trend Micro Housecall then will continue with rest of "Malware Cleaning Guide". But wanted to give this early heads-up.

System Restore has the ability to be turn off for separate drives or all drives. What did you use? Also the auxiliary drive (if removable) needs to be plugged in while you do this.

Hello,

I'm having a temperature problem and I don't have any experience in cleaning laptops and understanding when and how to do it. As far as I know, the problem is that my laptop is getting quite hot and I'm using it a lot, gaming included.

This is the temperature when I'm gaming, but sometimes it gets much hotter.

This is my fan outlet, as you can see, it has accumulated a lot of dust.

I hope that someone could help and maybe explain what does affect the computer's temperatures and how to clean this particular fan outlet. Oh, and maybe the fan itself has a lot of dust? I don't know. I have only removed the cover once, trying to clean the same fan outlet that you see (then it had much less dust in), but I couldn't figure out how, because it has some kind of cloth-like material glued to the case and I didn't wan't to rip it off, so I left it uncleaned.

The last bit of information I want to provide in this post is that I bought this laptop on January of 2015, and I did have a period, when I was using it on my bed (without any cooling pad or hard surface), but then I stopped doing that and bought a cooling pad. Which was too small for me and after a couple of months usage I gave it away, now I'm left without a cooling pad, but ... Read more

Hello,

Could someone please help me clean up what has become a very slow computer? I must have too many programmes automatically starting up and running because it now takes an age to boot up and when it finally does windows take an age to load and the internet seems to run very slowly. I don't think it is a memory issue because I have over 50GB of free space. Another issue is that Internet explorer often crashes and closes all open windows with an error message.

I am posting a Hijackthis log so you can see what's running. I only really use the internet, itunes and manage photos etc. so I think there is a lot of superfluous activity which I'd love to get rid of...

Hello All! Have a problem with my wife's Lenovo S10-2. Yesterday, after a 8-10 hours of netbook's inactivity (w/o heavy tasks), I found it deadly hanged. I turned it off by pressing a Power button by ~5 secs. After turning on again, I see only blank screen with non-blinking cursor at top-left corner. No Lenovo's splash screen, no beeps, no reaction on F2 or other keys. It's still can be powered off by pressing Power for 5 secs.Note: the cooler starts up with power on, but stops at same time as the blank screen with cursor appears.Removing HDD and GSM card did not bring any effect.  W/o RAM, netbook also doesn't say any beeps, but the screen is all black, with no backlight. Tried to clear CMOS by removing a battery, power cord and pressing Power by 60 secs. No changes at all.I also tried to enter BIOS recovery mode by pressing Fn-B while connecting power cord w/o battery. It starts with cooler working constantly, black screen (as described), but still no beeps. No SD or USB activity too -> no BIOS ROM search on external media. The cursor is not blinking, does it mean anything? Could it be hanged by overheating in 2-3 seconds after power on?I saw similar problems ten years ago with Intel Celeron 600, which halted after 8-10 seconds after powering on, because there were no thermal grease on CPU at all.Any suggestions? What should I check? P.S. Sorry for bad English, that's not my native language)

hi cdf.i don't have s10-2 but as i remember it comes with soldered and another ram stick. it usually happens when the soldered ram is out of order but not sure what your problem really is.still, whatever your issue is you will need hardware support cause you tried all of the suggestions that i may suggest. if you have valid warranty, contact lenovo support line for possible mainboard replacement.hope this helps.

I have G50-80 for half a year now, no problems before, but 2 days ago, when i shot down my laptop i cant turn it on anymore. When i press the power button only LED lamp light up for few seconds, i can hear HDD and GPU Fan spin, but they also stop after 2-3 seconds. So for i've tried hard rebooting and connecting to external display. When only on battery GPU Fan won't stop spinning, even if laptop is shut down, after connecting AC adapter the fan stops spinning.

Hello. First of all, thank you for taking the time to view my post and potentially help me out. So the problem is that my laptop will not start. I was using my laptop here one day and it was working fine, but it was unable to charge for some reason and ended up shutting down so I went to bed. The next morning I tried turning it on, but it was dead. I have tried a different charger as my sister also has a lenovo laptop, but this did not work either. I would think if the battery was the problem, the laptop should still be working with the charger in? I have tried removing the battery and holding down the power button for 30 secs and then trying to start it again, with only the charger in. LED lights not working. I have tried calling support line several times with no answer, the warranty has gone out and I forgot where i bought the laptop sadly. Really frustrated over here, and any help is highly appreciated!

I have a problem. My T61 suddenly wont start up. I used it yesterday, but today when I turned it on, it wouldnt start up at all. The laptop just says to small "thinking noises", no beeps and nothing shows up on the screen. The only lights turned on on the PC are the battery light and a symbol that looks like a "N" in a circle. I have tried to turn the power on while holding f1, f11 or the blue access button pushed down, but nothing happens. The screen is still black and no start-up occurs. What have happened? What can I do?

On Xmas morning we opened a new Lenovo SL 500 right out of the box and excitedly installed the battery, plugged it into a power outlet, and tried to turn it on only to find that it would not come on. We also noticed that NONE of the lights on the machine were illuminated. We tried the power converter on another Lenovo Thinkpad and it worked fine, so its not that. We called Tech Support and yes, they were working today, but no, they had no clue about our problem. Any ideas before we call Lenovo tomorrow to swap out machines?

Answer:New (out of box) Lenovo SL 500 won't start

Update: the battery light and the wireless light are now illuminated but the machine will still not power up.

Hi everyone!I'm trying to boot for the first time in my Lenovo B40-70. It starts with the logo of lenovo and then it goes to a black screen and it is saying that is loading FreeDOS and is asking to enter a new date, new time and then it says C:/> and nothing happens. Anyone can help? Thanks!

Answer:Lenovo B40-70 won't start

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of the problem with the new laptop.  I assume that when you purchased the laptop you were expecting Microsoft Windows to be installed?  From what you have described it sounds like the new laptop came with the FreeDOS operating system installed instead.  If that is what happened then I would recommend that you contact the place of purchase and have them exchange the computer for a Windows installed model.

I have been having several issues with my laptop. From the very beginning (last May) I have had a light spot on the screen that didn't bother me, but it has grown over the last year and it eventually made the touch screen malfunction so that it thought I was pressing at that point. I ended up disabling the touch screen so I could still work. Now, my laptop has been acting up even worse. A couple of weeks ago my laptop randomly shut off while I was using it. The screen stopped working but the power light was still on. I restarted it and it worked. Then, about two weeks later it happened again. Restarting it worked again.  Today, the same issue came up, but now it won't restart and it does not work at all. The charging light is lit up when I plug the charger in and when I first press the power button, the power button lights up, but that's it.  I have been searching for a solution, but I can't find anything. I think that the motherboard or hard drive must have some issue, but I can't seem to find the way to contact support and find out how to repair. Another thing: I checked the warranty, and it says it works until 5/20/16, but it detects it as a cell phone, not my Y50 laptop. This is the S/N that is printed on my actual laptop too. I know my warranty should still be active, but this is just weird. I'm really disappointed at how fragmented all the support information is from Lenovo.

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

Are you able to get into the BIOS utility by pressing the F11 or F12 key repeatedly? If so, you can use a recovery disk to restore.

Answer:Lenovo G460 Won't Start

This same issue is discussed on a Microsoft forum but for a Lenovo G570 like mine. In my case it seems that Windows is hanging when it reaches the DVD driver. By removing the optical drive (the instructions for this are in the Lenovo user guide - you undo a small screw under the laptop) the problem seems to have gone away. Now I just need to work out if it's the drive or the controller that's faulty. Any suggestions, please?

Good Evening, I purchased a Lenovo Z50-70 a year and five months ago, It has been running perfectly fine until yesterday evening. I had left it unattended for approximately 3 hours plugged in charging, when I returned I was using it for around 15 mins and then I noticed that the battery was low (even tho it was 5% battery it was saying 2 mins to fully charge), it then turned off and refused to restart until I unplugged the AC but when I plugged the AC in once it had started it just turned off. I tried the power button solution that was posted (press 10 times in 30 seconds) and restarted the Laptop, it started fine and I plugged the AC in and it stayed on but the battery led was flashing orange (Still would not charge) and then the battery ran out and the Laptop turned off and I can't get it to work now. I have tried to use the laptop with just the AC but it will not work. I have ordered a new battery hopefully that will work but I am wondering if it should aleast work on just the AC for the moment.

Hi, Somehow my system is not starting up on the first boot attempt. Surprisingly, it always works on the second attempt. When I hit the Power button, the Power LED turns on along with the Num Lock LED. It stays on for like 3 seconds, producing a faint "scratching" sound (I presume this is the HDD or the DVD drive initiating the boot sequence) but then the system turns off. No display. No LED. No error message. Second hit on the power button, and the system boots up normally. Any guesses? PS. I upgraded to Windows 10 a few days back. Can that be an issue?

Hello,I have a problem with my Lenovo R500 and I hope someone could help me. I have been using it for about 6 months now. Today I turned it on in the morning, as usual and working on it. Then after some time I noticed that it's not working as I wanted, it was working kinda slowly. Then I saw that new updates are ready to be installed (I'm using Windows Vista Business on it, if that is relevant for any reason), so I decided to install those. I did everything as normal when I install the updates and it kinda turned off. The problem is that it didn't really turn off  -  the lights were still on that shouldn't be after the shut down (it has done that to me many times in the past, but not always when I shut it down). So I did what I always do when it doesn't want to shut down (nothing else, except that helps) - I held the power button for a few seconds that it turned off, then I turned it back on. Everything normal, but then it froze at the startup and didn't go anywhere. So I held the power button again and since then it won't turn on at all! There aren't even any lights for power, nothing!I tried to unplug the power cable and put it back in, I even put it in another plug, but since the problem can't be empty battery (I have it plugged in all the time, working on electricity, not battery), it should start on battery even if anything was wrong with the electricity cable, not?I would really appreaciate if anyone could give me some advice on what could be the problem. Is the Turbo Boost not automatic anyway? Depending on the process and threads.I think Turbo Boost only works on single threaded apps then it will boost to whatever stated. However if its multi-threaded turbo boost does not work and only works on the rating of that CPU.Be it 2.4GHz or whatever it is at stock. All cores don't turbo boost.  This at least is my understanding of it.Turbo Boost should work automatically though as its part of the OS and Chipset/CPU not a Lenovo Tool.

Hello all, I come here with a quandary. I've had my lenovo ideapad U410 for about two years now and those it has had it's occasional little problems here and there, it's never required more then a few powercycles or perhaps a night of rest for it to fix itself. Yesterday, however, it froze, and I had to force shut down. Then when I tried to restart it, the power button lit up but the screen stayed black. I can force shut it down again but otherwise the light remains on and the screen stays off. This issue has happened before, but at worst I simply leave the laptop off overnight and it's usually alright in the morning. I recently lost the original charger for this laptop, and had been borrowing a friend's (which was similar but not identical) at the time of the crash and have since been using a universal charger I bought. I don't know if this is likely the cause but figured it'd be worth mentioning. Thanks!

Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."3. Click the "Repair your computer." If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. Status: 0xc000000e Info: An unexpected error has occured" After seeing this screen, my laptop shut off on its own. Hi nadiad79,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If the system is still under warranty, it would be best to call Support team for Hardware assistance.

But if the system is already out of warranty,
Based on your video, I think the system is having issue with the Hard Drive or Boot Sequence,
Check this Maintenance Manual and follow the steps on removing the Hard Drive (HDD).
See if the series of pages will change without the HDD.

Hope this helps
Cheers!

hi taimybd,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Can you try Removing the AC and Battery then hold down the Power button for 10 secs.(I think this is what you did)
Now try Connecting only the AC then try--
also try connecting only the Battery then try--

Check the light if any comes on when you press the battery on both batter only and AC only.
If still the same Issue I suggest you report this to the store and Im pretty sure options will be provided for you.

Let me know your findings
Best Regards

Answer:lenovo b50 doesn`t start

hi daniela-c,

Welcome to the Forums.

1. Plugin the AC adapter for about 1hr and let the battery charge then try starting the machine (the factory battery should be precharged but it could have drained -- in some models, this is a safety design to prevent damaging the system due to insufficient power).

2. If the problem remains after doing Step 1 above, turn off the computer, remove the AC adapter and battery then press and hold the power for 30secs. When finished, plugin the AC adapter and power up the machine and observe.

If the problem remains, there's likely an internal component that's malfunctioning. In this case,  I recommend you contact lenovo (for service) or the place of purchase (if it's still possible to get a replacement unit).

My Lenovo Flex 2 15 is about six weeks old. On occasion I will sign on, the system will boot up then after a few seconds the screen will shrink to half size on the left side of the screen then I will get a blank screen followed immediately by the start up screen. I will log in again and everything could be all right or it could take 3 more tries.  The McAfee virus scan found no issues and the free version of Glary Utiities came back okay. Is this a virus issue or a Lenovo issue?

Answer:Lenovo start up issues

Sounds more like a graphics card problem. You might try checking to confirm you have the latest drivers. If you do an uninstall, reboot and reinstall might also be worth your time.

Is it possible to add apps into lenovo quick start Linux? I'm missing ICQ client (which is really popular in Czech republic, I know that in USA isn't popular at all)... And is it possible to change looks of this Linux? I noticed that u can set your skins in options, but you have only 1 option...

Answer:Lenovo S12 and quick start

quickstart is down and dirty, very basic no frills.you might find another flavour of quickstart from another vendor with more variety or just move right up to ubuntu remix or something. Keep in mind quickstart just uses ram so saving any bookmarks etc needs to be done to a thumbdrive.

how do i turn off the little song that is played when the Lenovo logo is displayed on the screen during the computer start-up (not the windows tune that is played later)? It's pretty loud and doesn't seem to respond to having the volume turned down on the computer.

Answer:Start up Lenovo song

you can change that in the bios, although i forget where exactly.
