Back Corner coming from the back left side by the hinge

Question: Back Corner coming from the back left side by the hinge

I've been having a a problem with the back left corner hinge since October of last year I poisted to another board about this problem hving been told that this issue would be passed onto support in my region. I'm currious as to weather I'll hear from these people in this lifetime or the next. I enjoy my Laptop and would like to continue using it but as time goes on it keeps seperating more and more and I have to snap it back into place to keep in together. I'm hoping to actually hear back from someone this time that will be able to help me in fixing this issue.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My left hinge is coming undone and the back case is coming off. I can push it back together but the opening and closing of the laptop is causing pieces of the back to break off.

Last weekend my laptop started making clicking, crackling, loud noises from the left side area.  I called and was told that I could bring it to a local place.  Called on Monday and discovered that no, they don't do personal repairs.  Called Lenovo back and ended up sending it in.  Both guys I talked to said they thought it was the fan.  Got it back today, turned it on, and discovered that it's still making the same sounds.  I've had fan problems before that resolved after blowing out every possible vent, etc with compressed air.  Instead of fixing the fan, they replaced the ODD (CD Rom) - not even anywhere near where the noise is coming from.  Did they not even turn it on?  It started making noises within seconds of my turning it on.  These are not normal noises - can't even hear the TV.  My last Thinkpad died because of the fan.  I'm so mad, I lost a day last week because they told me this place could fix it, and now I have to lose another week to send it back again.  Anybody have any idea what this could be?  I want to have a better description to include when I send it in this time.  I have a really hard time describing the noise.  I just want it to be fixed!

Not long after the warranty expired, the metal outside portion of my laptop screen began to seperate from the actual screen, near the hinge. I have an HP Envy Touchsmart. I really like this computer, but now I can not open it because the screen is almost completely seperating from the housing. I have read of others having similar issues - but have not heard of a fix. Any thoughts?

I have had my HP Omen for the past year and over time the hinge at the back seems to be coming further apart from the back. If I push the screen back down at the back it will move back into place but will then immediately move apart again. Considering the price of this laptop I expect to have it for at least another 1-2 years and at this rate, I am afraid that the situation with the hinge will continuously get worse.

I've had my hp envy laptop for around 3 years, my husband bought it for me to do my MSc, and it has been used primarily for studying at my desk. I noticed the back left hinge coming apart a few months ago, and i had to physically push the laptop back together. I've always been really careful with it and don't understand how this happened. Now it's come apart so far the fan has failed and there is a warning message when i start it up advising me not to use the laptop without an operational fan. I'm essentially laptop less and am going back to do my phd in September. I really need the laptop for molecular modelling. I thought it was just bad luck until i saw the other posts advising this is a common problem with this make and model. I'm really disappointed as with the software and accessories bought on the day my husband spent around £900. For the amount of use it had before breaking, i feel like it was poor value for money. Can anyone advise me how I can get this fixed? I live on the Isle of Wight so i don't even think we have any local repair people ?

Model:  HP Pavilion m6 Notebook PC 15".   Laptop used minimally and still in beautiful shape other than these noted issues:  Left hinge is broken away from plastic casing (see pic) and Right hinge is broken away from lid plastic (see pic).   From what I'm reading, it seems the plastic base, chassis, and possibly lid base and hinge need replaced.  Please let me know what HP is offering as far as replacement parts and repair.  This seems to be an ongoing issue with HP notebooks.  I've purchased a total of three HP notebook/laptops over the past four years so I'm very concerned about these issues and why HP has allowed it to continue for so long and across so many different models.  It seems to me the plastic used in making these parts does not have the tensile strength required in notebook/laptop use.  I would think this issue would've been corrected years ago and not have continued.  Please advise.  I do love all my HP laptops other than these issues.   Thank you.

It still registers a click but it doesnt come back up. Sometimes it doesn't "unclick" so when I drag the cursor, it higihlights everything on the screen. This is a hardware issue, I was wondering if anyone knows what the button mechanism looks like or know which part to replace? thank you in advance!

Very frustrated with this...I opened the laptop gently as I would always do  and the hinge on the left side of the laptop just snapped and popped out of the plastic monitor frame.  The design of the hinges are just terrible and i can now see how they work because the case has been damaged just from opening and closing the laptop.  I can now see inside the whole left side of the case.  To top it off I have already invested considerable time into upgrading the OS to Windows 10 and customizing and installing software on this laptop. I cannot close my laptop entirely since the screen closes on an incorrect angle. Since I am out of warranty, is there any way to fix this problem? After reading several posts, it seems to be a common problem with the envy models.

Hi, I have a T61 (Type 6459-CTO), less than a year old and under warranty until 2012. Last night I happened to glance at the back of the laptop and noticed a crack under the left hinge. The closer I looked, the more cracks I saw. It seems to me that a combination of a lot of heat (the cracks are located where the vents are, and the machine seems to run pretty hot) and the stress of opening and closing the screen hinge has caused the case to crack. When I flex the hinge, there is clearly a lot of play in the anchoring of the left hinge to the base of the computer. I'm concerned about how this will be handled -- will Lenov... Read more

Sorry, but the only possible cause for that kind of damage is impact.  You may not have dropped it or dropped something on it, but somebody sure has. It's not covered under warranty and it will be very expensive to replace.  I would Krazy glue it back together - that should hold it even if it doesn't look too great.

@Albert5 The hinge issue on the HP Evny is well known to HP and yet they refuse to do much, if anything, about it.  If you're in warranty, they will typically fix it free, no questions asked.  Out of warranty, however, it's like a completely different company.  They will charge wildly varying amounts, from $130 up to $300 to fix thier own design flaw.   Here's a link to a long thread that I started to update others about the issue and my dealings with HP: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/Defective-Hinges-on-HP-Laptops-Envy/m-p/5378336#M204440 Hopefully, you'll find the info useful.  As further evidence that HP is aware of their own design flaw, the new 17" Envy's have a completely redesigned case with a much better hinge. Good Luck!

Hello, I bought an Acer Aspire R15 with Windows 10 from Best Buy in mid-June 2016. I just noticed today that the left side hinge is stuck at a 180 degree angle, so that my screen looks lopsided. (I think I have once, just to see that it really will do this, turned it into tablet mode from laptop mode, and back again, so it isn't as though I have been swinging it around willy-nilly!) Anyway, I have tried to free it up but daren't apply pressure as I am afraid of breaking the case, or the display, or the hinge itself! Any ideas, anyone out there? Please? Thanks in advance!

Hi, It is unfortunate to hear about the issues you're having with your case and opening the lid to your laptop. I would recommend having the machine serviced.

I can assure you that a far larger portion of Acer laptops do not have this issue. A lot of research, time and developement go into the area around the hinges to minimize issues, but laptops have had these issues for 20+ years. The hinge is a common component that produces a lot of stress. While we do measure ourselves to others, a quick google search replacing Acer for another manufacture is sure to produce the same results.

In this thread after the starting post from Tookeri other updates that had to be deleted were mentioned. I made a list in post 841
I did not have all these updates on the pc but those that were on it I hid.
Some of them came back and I hid them again.
Now today they are back - with some that I had not seen before.

I made an attachment that shows them and also shows that I hid them again

Will I have to check Windows Update for the rest of my live?????

My left hinge has recently become visibly broken, with the top keyboard metal casing and the bottom black plastic casing becoming seperated near the hinge. I have also noticed the fan making rattling sounds as if broken pieces from the hinge have entered it. The right hinge also was slightly opening the case but tighting the screw on that side has kept that from reoccuring. Although I put in a new screw into the left hand side from enderneath the case, it has since fallen though into the casing or out completely due to the broken hinge part inside. I have seen many posts on here talking about a similar problem and many have been frustrated with the poor repsonse from HP who haven't wanted to repair the laptops for free in these cases, as this seems to be a design fault. I am no longer under warranty and do not have £100 + to fork out on a laptop which was roughly £800 RRP which is not even 2 years old due to a design fault. Is there any other way of repairing. Also, I had someobody look at this, and they say this can only be repaired with a new top case part number 720570-001.However, this isn't directly sold by HP at the moment, only through resellers and it seems that is roughly £180. Any help on this issue would be much appreciated as I am a student and tutor  and so I rely on this laptop very much and it is vital that it is working without issue at the moment as it is the middle of exam period. Regards,ARIA

Has anyone else seen this problem.   I've had two laptops and nearly 14 months (4 months after warranty expiration), the left hinge plastic bezel has cracked.  I suspect this is a universal problem as I've met with other laptop owners who have experienced the same thing at nearly the same time....just after warranty expiration.
I know that in nearly all manufacturers of laptops that this is occurring and oddly nearly all are the left hinge bezel/plastic.  HP customers, I believe, have launched a class action lawsuit.

Is there a class action lawsuit against Dell for this same problem?  It sounds like all manufacturers are getting their laptop hinge bezels from the same place. This is a problem that Dell needs to address...immediately.

This is my first time ever posting on a forum, but I am having a problem on the left side of my 17 inch HP Envy. The left hinge seems to be forcing the bottom and top of the lab top to separate. When you open or close it makes the left corner of the lab top separate. Closing it makes the parts go back together. This started a couple days ago and already the computer is starting to go into thermal shutdown modes and some of the little vent covers are starting to fall off.  I have always had an HP computer and own two others but I?m really disappointed in this one.  It hasn?t lasted long enough to be worth the amount I paid. I have read several other threads that have people experiencing the same issues. What are my options to fix this or is this just wasted money? Any responses/help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Hi, I have just noticed that the metal covering the hinge on the left side of the keyboard near the speaker is warping, it looks like its bending due to the laptop being opened.. Surely this is right is it? I have called the vendor who advised me that the issue was not a fault but merely cosmetic so it was not there problem and I should speak to the manufacturer.  Whilst is not a problem now it no doubt soon will be if the hinge breaks or the screen pulls away.  What can I do? It seems really hard to contract Lenovo UK and after googling a method of contacting them, all I found were endless forums sites about how people have problems with their customer service ..help? Is there anyone on this site who can help or anyone from Lenovo customer care in the UK? Cheers Scott

Good Afternoon, I recently bought became an acer user after I found this Aspire laptop that had everything that I wanted at a reasonable price. But after just a couple years the left side near the adapter plug in began to crackle everytime the screen was open and closed, slowly on the same side the plasitic became more and more separated, until recently this was not a major issue but as time wore on that small gap has become so wide it seperates the whole computer in two causing my the port that the power cord is connected to has fallen deep inside the laptop. As I begin to research this problem I came to find that this was something that has happened to almost every acer laptop no matter the price or type, now my question is since this is a manufacturers problem shouldnt ACER fix this issue without any cost to the customer since it is something that should have been fix in design phase? I find this perplexing because I have owned other laptops that I have droped (I have never dropped this one) that has NEVER split open. PS if you do not believe me research for yourself. most of these malfunction happen before a years usage

Answer:Acer laptop LEFT side Screen hinge Problem

Hi, It is unfortunate to hear about the issues you're having with your case and opening the lid to your laptop. I would recommend having the machine serviced.

I can assure you that a far larger portion of Acer laptops do not have this issue. A lot of research, time and developement go into the area around the hinges to minimize issues, but laptops have had these issues for 20+ years. The hinge is a common component that produces a lot of stress. While we do measure ourselves to others, a quick google search replacing Acer for another manufacture is sure to produce the same results.

Hello HP, I bought the HP Envy less than a year ago and now the laptop is comming apart at the top left corner. It makes poping noises when I open and close the screen. This is the laptop I bought for work (Software Developer), so I can not afford to be without a reliable machine. I am from the Eastern Cape in South Africa, and I am starting too loose faith in all things HP. What can I do? Armand van der Walt

The above is my son's laptop. It began separating about a week ago. It is a Pavilion G7.  What is causing this issue? Is there an easy way to fix the problem, aside from purchasing a new computer. The laptop works fine. We are not sure if this is a battery issue (BIOS) or other issue. That corner did run hot from time to time. He has cleaned it out and it is not hot now.  Of course it is out of warranty, but a computer should not do that when used properly.  Thank you for any advice and help that can be given.

Hello HP,

I am deeply concerned - I bought a 17" HP envy but less than a year since
, the laptop is coming apart at the bottom near the Hinge for the screen to the left. I am afraid to open it because it makes a "pop" sound every time I open the screen.

God knows I have been extra careful with this laptop. Yopu will not find a scratch on it from bangs or things like that but am deeply scared of this 1200$ piece falling apart not even a year into my using it.

Can someone please advise where to repair this from?? I am based in Uganda but will be travelling to San Francisco and Los Angeles soon.

Please advise, am beginning to lose faith in the machine, and brand..

Answer:17" HP Envy Coming apart at the left near screen hinge

Wow, my 15" HP Envy looks almost exactly the same and the hinge is no longer fixed.  I assumed the problem was because I found a screw under the laptop yesterday but when I tried to screw it back in it went through the housing and inside the computer.  Apparently the screw then caused a problem with the fan and I need a fix as well.  I spent several hours this morning being passed back and forth between the US and Slovak companies because I'm a US customer currently located in Slovakia and according the the support desk I need to put my laptop in a box and mail it to someone in the US if I want it fixed because somehow, and god knows how this is cost effective, the fan for a computer that's sold in the US is not available in Europe.  I'm sorry I don't have a better answer to your question, but my experience suggests you may not get service in the US unless you bought your laptop there and if someone from Support tells you they will service your computer you should check with multiple people.  The first Support person I talked to assured me the Slovak's would fix my fan when he told me to contact them, only to find out after being transferred 4 different times that in fact they won't.   I wish you good luck getting your laptop fixed and I'll let you know if I find any decent solutions but so far all I've been able to figure out is that its likely better to spend my har... I like many others have the whole case cracking issue on my Envy - yes it is out of warranty but I special ordered and spent a bundle so that I could get 5 years out of it not 2.  I tried to extend the warranty but that was a complete CLUSTER and never happened - I have lost my job and cannot afford a new computer and use it for my part time job.  This is a home computer and moves from my home office to my living room - rarely ever leaves the house and is in pristene condition.  Trouble with the answers in this forum is that they are all PM's, except for the ones who have described how to take the machine apart which I can't really risk doing on my own.  Like Dell, HP quality has gone down the toilet!!

I opened the case myself to find out the screw assembly has broken away from the base causing the metallic hinge to push the body upwards. Is there any authorized parts/spares shop in Karachi, Pakistan where I can get this fixed? or can I order the base assembly online if no shop is available?  Model : Hp Pavilion g6-2032se

My T61, whose warranty has just expired, has suddenly started emitting a sizzling, interference-like sound from the left side of the system. If I put my ear to the system it seems as if the sound is located near the VGA/Ethernet/modem ports. I've already ordered and installed a new heat sink/fan component, figuring that wud be the culprit. No luck. I've also tried unplugging the built-in speakers, figuring maybe it was an interference issue - no luck there, either.  Anybody have any idea what might be causing this?

My 6 month old Dell Inspiron 7559 has starting coming apart from around the left side hinge. The keyboard plate is being separated from the bottom chassis and can see inside. Dell support say its damage or wear and tear. Really!. The laptop has been at home and not moved beyond 5 feet for the last 6 months. There is NO damage and even a microscopic inspection will not reveal any damage. Wonder how UK support brushed me off even after sending photos and saying not covered by warranty. Had been a Dell customer for last 12 years and this is my 4th Dell and definitely the last one. Cannot stand a company like this

I have had 2 or 3 T61's exhibt the same problem. When the laptop is on battery power, I hear a very annoying buzzing noise coming from the upper left hand corner of the laptop. It seems to originate right next to the exhaust vent next to the speaker. Does anyone know what can be causing this? I have the most recent BIOS update as well. The second the unit is plugged back into A/C power, the sound disappeares. Its driving me crazy!!

Answer:T61 Buzz coming from upper left hand side when on battery power.

This is a hardware problem or glitch with the older Core 2 Duo processor, it was industry wide problem, there is no real fixes for it, other than to turn power saving features off and put the processor at max performance on battery.

Hi all. So, I've got a desktop running Windows 7 32bit, and a corded USB Dell optical mouse. This morning I booted up the computer, and after a short while the mouse cursor started staggering up to the upper right hand corner of the screen and would not come back down.

I tried plugging in a different optical mouse, and the same thing happened. I tried all the usb ports on the computer, no change. I tried updating the drivers and just uninstalling and reinstalling the mouse, no change. I did a system restore to yesterday, when it was working just fine. That actually seemed to work for a few minutes, then it started up again.

So right now I'm running a full system virus scan, but I was just wondering if anyone here had any ideas as to the cause. I haven't downloaded any software or changed any settings in the last few days.

Thanks!

Of course I'm another unfortunately guy that had hinge failure.  While hinges are available for purchase online and not too expensive, the back cover is not.  Apparantly when the hinge failed it broke the plastic mounting point on the LCD panel back cover that the hinge screws into.  This part (90204054 I believe) doesn't appear available online, and even if it was it seams like a rather expensive piece.  Anyone have any help in getting a replacement LCD back cover? Thank you for your assistance.

To any staff, Long story short, the hinge on my Thinkpad T61p were getting loose (it was moving back and forth) and upon a quick serach, apparently it was a known issue on these laptops. As my warranty was nearing its end, I quickly called Lenovo to have this repaired. Because I was promised that this repair is going to be finished within 5-7 business days, I decided to go ahead and send it away depite that my major requires it 24/7. I've received a box next day and I sent it away on Jan 9th, 2008. I called in today to see what's happening but this employee, who rather got really irritated that I called in, couldnt find my info for 30 mins. After finally finding my info, he mentioned that the hinge is backordered. I politely asked him when I can get the laptop back but he said it could take days.. weeks or possibly up to months.  The sole reason why I sent this laptop for a repair was because they said the turnaround repair would be fast and I believed his word. It's quite dissapointing to hear these kind of delays in repair process when I need this laptop ASAP. There are actually 2 ongoing cases regarding my laptop but none of them are being solved at the moment. The 6 cell battery, which just died a few days ago, was replaced by a 9 cell from Lenovo. I called about this issue as well and hopefully they can get this straightened out. How long does it take for a "back ordered" parts to arrive at the depot? It's really hard to imagine how the depo... Read more

I have just got off the phone with Lenovo customer support about my Ideapad Y700 with a broken hinge. Essentially, screws starts to pop out of it when I tried to closed the laptop and now it is barely attached to the machine. I have being babying this computer a lot and rarely taking it outside and has never dropped it. (My Mac Air was my default laptop on the road) I called lenovo, thinking it's a simple RMA case, however the support told me it voids the warranty and I need to send it to the repair center to determine it is it cover, and it costs me $30 shippings to send it to them.  Below is the pictures of the broken hinge and the screw that popped out, for people with similar experiences or perhaps levono support itself. Does it look like something it will be covered? The worst that could happen is if I send the laptop in with my own money, and they tell me it cost $500 to repair it and it's not covered.  Thanks.

Hi, I'm pretty sure there was a post about this before, but the ones I found were regarding X200 tablet, and another X200 with different area of heat issue.  My X200 is pretty much like any other X200 except it has 4GB RAM and 250GB HDD.The CPU is P8600. I've read other discussion boards, and I did run TPFC, and for some reason, I just can't find the fan setting in the BIOS, but then again, I'm not a smart comp techie. Anyways, my TPFC says the following all in centigrade with the fan running in the BIOS setting which ranges from around 1900 RPM to 4000 RPM depending on usage: CPU 33APS 40GPU 34NO5 26BAT 25BUS 37PCI 33 Of course, according to these numbers, my X200 is running extremely fine and cool.  The weird part is that the surface gets quite hot. The keyboard is fine and the left side of the laptop is bearable, but the right side of the laptop including the palm rest heats up to the point where I can't rest my palm on it, when typing. The bottom of the computer heats up as well, so I can't really use it on my lap. The heating occurs within 30 minutes of booting, and I don't understand why. I'm thinking of taking this to the local Lenovo Warranty Center to get it taken a look at. I was wondering if anyone had the same problem or can suggest any solutions. I do have the base warranty and the Thinkplus warranty. Thank you for your help in advance.

Question: Keeps coming back!

I thought I wiped it off already but it's back AGAIN! And my SpyBot S&D is missing all sorts of components so it's not working right and it's the only one that has found any. The Microsoft one found one and deleted it but SpyBot found 16 but only deleted 2 before running into problems. EliteBar is back also. Help again!

Answer:Keeps coming back!

- Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus RemovalMake sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

- Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem:

- Download HijackThis 1.99.1

- Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

- Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

- Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

- Run HijackThis and save your log file.

- Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

Hi everyone,

i had this fake FBI Virus on a laptop couple days ago, it would not let the windows to boot, not even in safe mode. i got it to clean with kaspersky boot disc, and also scanned it with avg, malwarebytes, avast. send it back to customer, same night he called me saying avast kept picking up something but was not able to remove it! so i picked it up again the next day, scanned with avg & malwarebytes seemed to be cleaned up again, nothing was picking up any viruses. but guess what? this morning i have a text from a custoemr, saying he was locked up out of screen and he was able to get into it, but now avg is picking up something again!!! i asked him if he uses usb drive or external or anything but he said he did not use any of those! PLEASE HELP WITH REMOVAL OF THIS!!!!

Answer:It keeps coming back!!!!

Hello sapikest,
my name is Marius and I will be assisting you with your Malware related problems.

Before we move on, please read the following points carefully.
First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding.
Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one.
If you have any problems while you are follow my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem.
Do not run any other scans without instruction or Add/ Remove Software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me.
Post all Logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts.
If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.
Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean.
My first language is not english. So please do not use slang or idioms. It could be hard for me to read. Thanks for your understanding.

Before we start, please note:

Please be advised that this free service is typically for home users. We'll help you out this time, but in the future if you are unable to clean a machine via standard methods, then either backup the client's data and rein... Read more

Greetings everyone I need some help.

First off... I have followed all the proceedures listed on the READ ME thread that is asked and I STILL AM HAVING ISSUES.

I have Ad-Aware SE and with the VX add.

I have HiJackThis v1.99 and have followed the steps on that thread as well.

Here is the problem:

I run Ad-Aware everytime I log on, and even in safe mode. It finds beween 8 and 60 items. Mostly Malware and DataMiners. Then once I fix those I rescan and it comes up clean. However, I am still getting pop-ups, I have EnhanceMySearch, and when I log off and log back in... and re-run Ad-Aware I still have 8-60 items that show up and the same problem persists.

Can anyone help and point me in the right direction? It is a major annoyance. THANKS TO EVERYONE IN ADVANCE!!

Answer:It all just keeps coming back

Make sure you have HijackThis 1.99 and follow the guidelines on where to install it and how to post a log as an attachment. This is all covered in the sticky thread NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting

Now post a HijackThis log as an attachment to your message (Do not post the log inline). All running programs should be closed, including your web browser, e-mail. Close before running Hijack This!

To repeat: Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file. Place it in its own folder, for example C:\Program Files\HJT

Hello
For many years a succeeded in keeping my computers safe - then, not even a month ago, something surfaced. A Virut thing after I visited an insecure site.
If this can help, a few days before I had for the first time in my pc life installed a downloader program called Flashget-
Well I tried at first to clean up with Spybot and Spyware Doctor (who had not by the way intercepted the hostile item). But the machine had still a strange behaviour so I downloaded some Linux based Rescue CD .iso files (Kaspersky, BitDefender, WebDoctor), burned the CDs and went on scanning without Windows. Those found a wealth of infections by Trojans as well as by the Virut thing, so I kept cleaning and cleaning (desinfecting and/or deleting that is) until nothing more was found.
I then restarted Windows, uninstalled Flashget and installed Avast antivirus. Unfortunately when using my browser I started to get redirected to a "stolnik.net" whatever search I did. Plus Avast began to show infections spreading in the system by a "W32.Vitro" virus. So I tried again with the rescue CDs - Kaspersky found a couple issues but nothing else - and Avast still claiming I have the W32.Vitro everywhere.
At this point I used the VirutCF removal tool by Norton, but to no avail - there is no Virut infection in the machine.
I was beginning to get nervous so I downloaded the Combofix tool, disabled all and every anti-virus and -spyware - as requested - and tried to start Combofix: nothing happens... Read more

Answer:They keep coming back

If you truley have Virut the only real alternative is to do a complete wipe and reinstall. See boopme's post here:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...t&p=1260380That will help you determine if you have virut, and if you do, what you need to do.

Hello EBurritt, I am SifuMike and I will be helping you. Disable your antivirus program and go here http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html and run an online scan with BitDefender (you will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan). When the ActiveX Control has loaded, click on "Click here to scan". Please be patient, as this scan may take a few hours. It all depends on the number of files on your computer. When BitDefender completes the scan, select the "Detected Problems" tab. Click on "Click here to export scan". Save the file as an HTML to your Desktop. Then click on the saved file and allow it to open with your browser. Go to Edit - Select All then copy/paste that log back here. I think I may have finally scrubbed enough to keep the dll (IeBHOs.dll) from re-appearing, but the E2G folder keeps recreating itself. Any suggestions?

It's a friends system and had Norton on it. I installed NOD32 and PC Tools Spyware Doctor. Then read a few threads and ran HJT a few times and made some deletions that "may" have helped. I know that I managed to get rid of the TrojanDownLoader-AC2 but this E2G is stubborn.

Also ran SpySweeper many times in safe mode and in non-safe mode. Disables Spyware Doctor from auto load with windows as it seemed to be interefering with the Spy Sweeper scan.

Here's the latest HJT log:

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Thank you.

Answer:It just keeps coming back...

try manually removing, on www.doxdesk.com there are listings for spyware/parasites.

you could also go to run > msconfig and deselect any programs starting up that you dont recoginse.

also try going to http://www.symantec.com/homecomputing/
at the bottom is a link to a free online virus check, you may have one that persistantly downloads spyware.

and finally ensure you have a firewall and if you have one make sure its up to date. www.download.com has a free copy of zonealarm, thats a good one

I have both a dds scan and gmer report but don't really know what to look for. I can post these if someone has time to review them. I ran both prior to the windows update restart. Also updated and ran spywareblaster. Pop ups and redirects are gone too.

Partial log of items cleaned.

Hey everyone this is the first time I have posted anything but i am having some serious problems. I let my brother borrow my laptop and when i got it back it was infected bad.
I have pc-cillin, Malwarebytes, and SuperAnti-Spyware.
SuperAnti-Spyware seems to clean everything after i scan and reboot but there are two things that keep coming back on the next re-boot.
1. Pc-cillin keeps giving me a waring telling me to close the browser when its not open with the web address of 110/rjsa/select.php?a=6707a0a cd82d9318fa98c6ee396eed8e61fcf4200553e0c95d8b1d81bbda3c1b&b=1001&c=1
2. There is a sys32 file that gets deleted and always comes back on reboot its MoIXWA40.dll
Pc-Cillin tells me this is a trojan.bho and says its will delete on reboot.
please help me this is so frustrating it slows everything down sooo slow.

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Here is my dilemna:

I've run Kazaabegone, CWShredder, Spybot and Adware with new updates and reboots in between. I've run Hijack This and removed what I knew to be suspicious files in safe mode. But one:

Now i didnt do the smartest thing and i downloaded one of the "anti-spyware" things they told me too. I have a problem with pop-up ads that keep on appearing randomly on my computer. I tried using adaware which picked up a lot of them, but they keep coming back later.

I can't get rid of this crap - I've ran everything on here that people say. I have SAV installed and up to date, I have SpywareGuard installed, I have ran HJT, I've ran Ewido software, nothing can get rid of this - Everytime I clean everything while in Safe mode and reboot, Spywareguard immediately starts popups saying a BHO has been added (suchs as C:\WINDOWS\system32\wvuvspq.dll) - I click remove BHO, and it comes back over and over...

Someone please help - this has totally destroyed my computer...
