X1 Carbon (Type 20FB, 20FC) Laptop Display Driver

Question: X1 Carbon (Type 20FB, 20FC) Laptop Display Driver

Hello,We are installing Windows 7 Enterprise edition on our X1 Carbon (Type 20FB, 20FC) Laptops. Despite installing the VGA driver (several times), the display adapter on the device managers still shows (Standard VGA Graphics Adapter), because of that we are unable to connect an external monitor to those laptops.Note: We are using USB3 Dock, and the drivers for the dock are installed!Any idea for a solution? Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Welcome to the forum!

Have you tried downloading the Win7 drivers from the support page? (Source: click me!)

You will see drop down menus where you need to select the component and corresponding OS, something like this:

Hello, any help appreciated. About a week ago the sound on my X1 Carbon 4th Gen (Type 20FB, 20FC) Laptop (ThinkPad) changed. Just turned on one day and it sounded completely different.  It sounds very echo like (like you were in a big cave listening).  1) If I listen to a song I've listened to a 100 times on this laptop, now it sounds like all the levels are off (same whether Youtube, Spotify, Music player, etc). The backing track seems louder and main vocals seem a bit lost in the mix. 2) Watching sport on the laptop now, the crowd often is louder than the commentary. Or a movie, the main dialogue is harder to hear against background noise. I changed no settings and cannot see/find any equalisers/settings that can or will alter it.  If I use headphones, everything sounds as normal. It's just using external speaker sound. Any ideas? It sounds really bad. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I bought an X1 Carbon 20FB a few days ago. Since I want to use it for work, I need to change the machine type from 20FB to 20FC. Does anybody know a way to change machine type? I tried already the bios update utility but it only allows to change the machine serial number, not the machine type. Thank you!

Answer:X1 Carbon change Machine Type 20FB 20FC

Hello and welcome to the CommunityLet me ask you - why do you need this operation? Machine-Type means "laptop platform". I hope you haven't replaced the systemboard in new machine.

We've got about 2 dozen of the 4th gen x1 carbons, machine type 20FB, and have had a high number of display related issues with them.  At the moment, we have 3 sitting upstairs waiting for UPS to pick up for shipment to lenovo service, and one more on my desk that was just acting up.  I'm told that we have previously sent in at least another 3 or 4 laptops for similar issues.  I understand that those previous laptops had the displays replaced, and that we have yet to see a recurrence of the issues in one that has been repaired. The problems we've seen are intermittent, and generally fall into one of two categories:FlickeringVideo garbled, missing sections, or complete garbage.  The flickering is sometimes very faint, barely noticable, but other times it's more pronounced, bad enough that users complain of headaches and/or "it's going to cause seizures!" The garbage video issue is what I just saw with the laptop sitting on my desk.  It went to sleep, and when I woke it up, this was what I saw:? After a few moments, the laptop rebooted on it's own and the display was back to normal, but I don't want to send this out with a user now just to get a support call when it happens again. Is anyone else having this sort of issue?  Or did we just particularly unlucky?

Hi all, I have the X1 Carbon 2016 (20FB) and it is running Windows 10 Enterprise. I have all the lastest Windows and Lenovo updates. It all works pretty well except when it comes to starting back from sleep mode. I have the laptop configured to go to sleep when I close the lid. However when I reopen the lid, the power button and keyboard lights come on but the display stays off. Opening and closing the several times doesn't help. The only way to get the display to turn on is to quickly press the power button. This puts the laptop to sleep. If I press the power button again the laptop comes back to life and the display works again. Anyone else have this issue? Any possible solutions? Thanks,Ian

My Thinkpad X1 Carbon 4th 20FB with Win10 was working fine with Photoshop when it had Intel HD Graphics Driver - 10 [64] V21.20.16.4550 Using the Lenovo Companion, I let it upgrade the graphics driver to V21.20.16.4718 back in late July.  Immediately after this upgrade, Photoshop no longer rendered images properly, making it useless.  Images that are opened do not appear on the screen and the UI is jumbled.  I reverted to driver v21.20.16.4550 through Companion as that version was still listed, and everything was fine again.  I noticed the other day upon opening Photoshop that I had the rendering problem again.  I checked my graphics driver version in Device Manager, and somehow it updated to v22.20.16.4785 (although I cannot figure out how, as Lenovo Companion does not show an update to this version in its history, and neither does Windows Update). All I want to do is rollback my graphics driver to v21.20.16.4550, which I know works.  But this is not an option any longer in Companion, and this version is not present on the Lenovo website either.  Obtaining this version through 3rd party websites is not Lenovo specific and refuses to install. Please provide me a link or a place to go where I can get Intel HD Graphics Driver - 10 [64] V21.20.16.4550

You should still be able to revert to the older driver via Device Manager. Right-click on Start and select Device ManagerLeft-click on Display Adapters to expandRight-click on your Intel HD Graphics adapter and select PropertiesSelect the Driver tab and then select Update DriverSelect Browse my computer for driver softwareSelect Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computerSelect the older driver version, and then click Next to installBest of luck,

So I used Lenovo's system updated to update drivers and there was a video driver update waiting.  I installed it and my screen went blank and never returned.  Why doesn't Lenovo list previous versions of drivers as well!? I can boot the laptop into safe mode, but can't seem to figure out how to revert this driver to enable windows to work again.

I have a weird issue with one of my 4th gen X1 Carbons, model 20FC-S2S600 ... Whenever I rest my palm on the palmrest to type, the mouse moves unexpectedly. It usually gravitates toward the bottom left side of the screen. I am well aware that the trackpad might inadvertantly get touched while typing, however, nothing is touching the trackpad when this happens. I was able to reproduce the issue my taking my index finger and pressing down firmly on the right side of the palmrest between the fingerprint reader and trackpad. My finger was near the touchpad but absolutely not touching it. To reiterate, this is not an issue of inadvertetly touching the trackpad while typing. The mouse moves when pressure is applied to the right side of the palmrest between the trackpad and fingerprint reader. Has anyone else expreienced this issue?

This is my third X1 (all different generations) and I was very happy up till now. The problematic one has a Skylake processor and 512GB SSD and it seemed like a really nice config. The problem is that it doesn't want to shutdown nor wake up from sleep.First symptom: when shutting down, the pc seems to have shut down, but is still draining battery. If the keyboard FN-lock button is lighted, you can notice that this stays on. Also the fan will stay on if it was running before. The keyboard is even still responsive and you can turn on and off the different LEDs.Second symptom: when the pc goes to sleep, there is no waking it up. Also here the keyboard stays responsive for fn-lock etc.I've tried many things: reinstall windows 10 from scratch, reset the bios, upgrade the bios. Then Lenovo was actually very helpful to start: they swapped out the motherboard and when that didn't work, shipped the pc to a repair center. From here it went downhil: the repair was done in less than 5 hours according to the ticket (so I was impressed) but when I got the pc back I noticed why: they didn't repair it. They put on an image of windows 7 and since there the problem was not visible, called it fixed. Very frustrating. I put back windows 10 and guess what: the problem was exactly the same. When they shipped the pc, they had created a new ticket in the system, closing the original one. Now they even closed the second ticket although I already commented that the pc still doesn't work as it is supposed... Read more

After running Windows updates, the Intel HD Graphics adapter has an error which takes out the use of multiple screens either through the HDMI out or USB 2.0.  I have tried disabling and re-enabling the adapter, uninstalling and re-installing the driver.  Searched on Intel and Lenovo sites for a driver that will work with no luck.  The only thing I have found to work so far is restoring to before the updates were ran - which only last so long until the updates run again. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi, does anyone know if there is a list of compatible embedded LTE chips that will work on a X1 Carbon 20FB?  The reason why I ask this is bec the current model, EM7455, only operates at some frequencies that some abroad contries do not support and the older models such as the EM7355 support those frequencies.  One being GSM.  I tired to install a EM7355 into my 20FB laptop but the bios isn't allowing it. Thanks!

Answer:X1 Carbon 20FB Embedded LTE Compatibility

EM7455 is versatile enough and supports a lot of 4G/LTE including LTE-A and 3G bands worldwide. It does not support 2G (GPRS/EDGE) access technology.

Hi, I've got an X1 Carbon 20FB (4th gen), and noticed it doesn't have Lenovo System Update on it, which I've found useful in the past. So I went to the Lenovo downloads site and found System Update, but it doesn't list the 20FB as one of the X1 Carbons it supports - it only goes up to 20BS, 20BT: http://support.lenovo.com/se/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1-... (See the "Note for ThinkPad X1 Carbon users") Should I avoid downloading System Update then? I've not noticed anything that's not functioning, but I figured it makes sense to keep things up to date from a security and features point of view. Why is it not included by default? Thanks for any advice!

I recently got a X1 carbon 4th gen (20FB), and I have been super happy with its performance. However, it seems like whenever I have the laptop closed, the keyboard is leaving a mark on the screen. I sent it to repair, and they changed the screen, but that didn't seem to fix it. I noticed that the body and the lid are not perfectly aligned - one of the corners of the lid seems to be jutting out a little bit with respect to the rest of the body. I've attached picture to show this. I'm not sure if this is a part of the general design of the Carbon.  Can anyone with a X1 carbon 4th gen confirm that this alignment feature is not present in their machine? Thank you ?

We've purchased about 2 dozen 4th gen x1 carbons, machine type 20fb, and have been having some intermittent keyboard issues with multiple laptops.  At least 3 different units have had problems where the keyboard doesn't seem to work at all.  After power on, we press F12, F1, or Enter to try and access different functions, but they have no effect.  Once windows loads, we still can't type anything.   The first time my tech ran into this, he rebooted a few times and was still experiencing the same issue, he set the laptop aside for me to look at.  When I turned it on, they keyboard was functioning normally.  Later, after loading our image on the computer, he was preparing to deploy it to a user when the keyboard stopped working again. I fired up a new laptop this morning, fresh out of the box, and had the same issue, a non-functional keyboard.  In this case at least, the touchpoint/touchpad didn't work either.  I rebooted, tried to get into UEFI config, and after a couple of more reboots I tried pxe booting, but nothing I pressed on the keyboard seemed to help.  I turned the laptop off and put a note on it that it had a bad keyboard, but when my tech came in and turned it on a couple of hours later, they keyboard is working fine.   I've got one in front of me right now that was working this morning, but now the touchpad/point aren't responding.  Keyboard is working though.  L... Hello,I love my X1 Carbon 4Gen 20FB (using Windows 7). Except the Trackpad. I had may Thinkpads before and external Keyboards like P/N 02R0406.All had very sensible Trackpads one can work with with a very light push. This one is very hard to use, very unsensible. On top, the Synaptics driver does not allow to adjust the sensibility or speed in the Mouse Properties (V 19.0.17.115). I tried the Workarounf from 'Alexander C' - but then precision gets worse. Is this a driver bug or a hardware issue? Will it be fixed? DON_

I'm setting up a new X1 Carbon with machine type 20FB. It came with a Samsung MZNTY256HDHP SSD. I noted there was a recent SSD firmware update package for this laptop model, so I downloaded and ran the updater. It reported there were no updates. However, after digging a bit deeper, I discovered that the SSD firmware updater for the X1 Carbon 20A7/20A8/etc. DOES have an update for the SSD in this machine. What is going on here? Does this firmware update somehow only apply when the SSD is installed in a 20A7? Or did this particular model of SSD just get missed when Lenovo was putting together the firmware update package for the 20FB?

Hi, trying to get a Windows 7 Install done on a Carbon X1 2016 20FB w/ Samsung950 Pro. Bios 1.14 (latest as of May 2016)Special issue is, I need to get it done in a Legacy mode (BIOS,MFT style). I was able to install Win7 based on a win7 image that got the 950pro drivers and the USB3 drivers infused through NTLITE, and then I build an image with Rufus 2.9 (both UEFI/GPT and UEFI/MFT) worked, with the X1 BIOS was set up to UEFI only with CSM.BUT I need to to run on the BIOS setting 'Legacy' and in MFT style, b'cause the special Win7 installer I need to use does not support anything else. I know, sounds weird, but..... . So- is there a fundamental limitation against booting / installing a Win7 on a Carbon X1 2016 20FB - Samsung950 Pro in Legacy 7 MFT mode?

Answer:Extra hard drive for X1 Carbon 4th Gen (20FB)

The X1 Carbon 4th Gen doesn't have an mSATA slot. While it has an M.2 2242 slot for the WWAN card, you can't use this slot for an SSD.

If you just want to expand the storage of your device, I'd suggest to replace the 128 GB SSD with a larger M:2 2280 SSD.

Hello, I have this problem for month now :I close my X1 Carbon lid before going to bed, and in the morning, when I resume it from hibernation, the trackapd and trackpoint are totally unresponsive. Everything else work fine, I just have to wait, sometimes 20/30sec, sometimes a whole minute, to have the trackpad working. This is very frustrating to have a computer resuming so fast from hibernation but being unable to use it. I have the latest BIOS (1.15), latest UltraNav driver (19.0.17.98).Tried several drivers uninstallation/reinstallation, several fresh windows install, problem is still present. Actually on a fresh install of Windows 10 64bit (Anniversary update).

Hey, About a week ago I came back from vacation, Jan 20-29, and I installed a bunch of updates through the lenovo service center. A couple days later I noticed the fingerprint scanner had stopped working and a couple of days ago I noticed my usb ports weren't working either, with several usb drives that I had proven functional on a friends computer. After reinstalling some BIOS and usb drivers I have solved the usb problem, and I'm almost positive the fingerprint scanner is the result of some software. The timing is way too convenient to be anything else in my opinion. When trying to set up fingerprints through the "fingerprint enrollment" window it'll say "Cannot communicate with the sensor, please confirm the sensor is ready." Any and all suggestions are welcome. Morten Nissov

Hi folks, We have several Lenovo X1 Carbon 20FB Windows 10 Pro laptops.  More than one of them experience WiFi connection issues. Specifically and consistently when we move from room to room on our floor.  Even if connect automatically is checked, when we get to the destination, we may get connected to the AP, but unable to access anything, until we disable/enable the WiFi adapter.  This happens everyday, everytime.  I've been in the habit of disconnecting before I move. All other WiFi devices, phones, do not experience this issue. Anyone hear about this?

Hi, I updated my X1 Carbon 4th gen to 1.17 BIOS, and since then, opening the lid won't wake the computer from hibernation, except when plugged.Bios changelog states Disabled the power button when the computer is in battery mode and the
computer lid is closedbut when I read "power button", I don't think "this is gonna break the behavior of the lid". And of course, no rollback is possible from 1.17, so I'm stuck with a computer wich won't wake from hibernation correctly. I just can advise you all to not upgrade bios, and see what's inside the next version...

Just got my brand new X1 Carbon (4gen 2016/20FB) with the 512 GB PCIe NVMe SSD (THNSN5512GPU7). Was expecting a blazing fast disk, but it felt sluggish something that AS SSD Benchmark confirms (see attachment). According to the specs this drive should offer up to 2400 Mb/s read and 1500 Mb/s write. But I get 1800 MB/s read and abysmal 113 MB/s write. The machine has all the latest updates from Lenovo (incl BIOS) and all the drivers for Windows 10. Anyone else tested their drives? Found a Dell XPS owner with the same drive that complained about the same issue. Turning off windows write cache buffer flushing does help, but that is not a good answer.

Hello! I have made many driver pachages and image loads of lenovo pc, but i cant figure this one out. I think I have spent 4 hours of researching and I have realised I need to put down my pride. I need help. Using:Sccm 2007.WinPe 3.1 I'm using the Onelink+ pro usb to RJ45 adapter to get ethernet. It says it supports PXE. We use winpe 3.1 and want to deploy Win7.I have added all the drivers from Lenovo sccm pachage. I have turned "only legacy" in the bios. I have added the USB3 Exstension driver to both the image and WinPE. I get to download the Winpe and start it up. It have an IP and shows activity untill it start Winpe and check connectivity. It show error, but simply just reboot. When i f8 and type ipconfig /all it shows nothing. Please help me.

Hi, the power options sets that the display should turn off in X minutes. But it doesn't do it at all. Instead, the computer is locked and the display dimms.  I'm pretty sure that I have installed the latest monitor and graphic card driver. For testing it, I have also unplugged all USB devices.  What can still be the reason? Thanks!

I have a X1 Carbon Gen 4 (20FB).

I have found that when I insert my microSD card, it won't lock.  I can close the cover and it barely has enough tension but it can keep the card in.  I was thinking of buying a large microSD to use as a secondary hard drive as my primary NVMe SSD is getting full and having the card come out at any moment isnt going to work for me.

Any tips on how I might fix this issue?
I am still under warranty but it is a hassle sending the laptop back for who knows how long

Lenovo Gen 4(20FC) Carbon loses audio after Lenovo System Update We have several of the Gen 4 X1 Carbons here at work and they work fine until Lenovo system updates gets run. We have had 4 people run the system updates and now the system has no audio. If you click the audio icon in the try, windows begins diagnosing the system. If you try to install a different driver, it fails with code 1. No matter if you uninstall, reinstall, different versions of the driver....nothing seems to restore the audio. I finally did a system restore to before lenovo system update was run and the audio returned to working. It seems to be a software problem but I would really like to know if there is some way to get it working without having to restore every time someone runs lenovo system update.

I've had the X1 Carbon ThinkPad for around 9-10 months, and after about 4 or 5 months I began experiencing issues regarding the USB ports. I use this laptop for gaming as well as school work. The issues began very intermittently, with both USB ports failing (I use a microphone/headset, and a mouse), by seemingly turning off for 1-2 seconds, followed by them turning back on. 90% of the time the USB ports turned back on, but lately there are times where they do not, and I need to restart my computer to be able to use them again. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Drivers for my mouse and headset, as well as the USB drivers under Device Manager. Additionally, I adjusted my power settings to disable USB selective suspend settings, but that did not fix the issue either. By this point, the USB ports will both fail essentially as soon as I begin playing a video game, and at times when I have several tabs open using Google Chrome. Any advice on how to fix this issue?

Lenovo software automatically installs the latest display drivers for you which yesterday, after 5 months with this laptop and no problems, just made my laptop display go black. The display works fine on startup, in bios settings, and even in windows safe mode just not in normal windows. However, my external monitors plugged into HDMI and DisplayPort work fine. The problem is that the latest Intel HD Graphics 520 display driver (version 21.20.16.4590) breaks the x1 carbon laptop display. I tried 8 different versions of this display driver and the latest version that DOES NOT cause my laptop display to go black is version 210.19.15.4463. If you call Lenovo they will tell you to say goodbye to your laptop for 3 weeks while they replace your screen hardware which is the WRONG ANSWER. The right answer is downloading the driver version above (zip file not exe file) from Intel's website and then booting into Windows safe mode. Unzip the file. Then go into Device Manager, find your display driver, and click "update driver" and put in the directory you unzipped to plus a /Graphics subfolder. Wait for the new driver to be installed, then reboot. Now your display driver will work again. I had to uninstall all Lenovo software, companion, etc to stop it from trying to upgrade my driver again. Good luck!

I was considering getting this laptop , probably leaning toward the touch version.  But display quality is really important to me, I do much software evelopment so i stare at thescreen a lot of course  I know this is not IPS panel, but more like the TN panel used in MacBook.   How does it compare to Macbook dispay (non retina). is it, worse, the same, or better?

Answer:Display quality of X1 carbon / X1 carbon touch

I haven't spent much time on a newer MBP, but it's very equivalent to a MBP a few generations back, but is brighter. It's for sure usable, and while IPS would be prefered, I can easily live with it daily.

Folks - I have two X1 Carbons sitting in front of me, both running Windows 8.1, trying to connect to my Samsung TV.The X1 Carbon (2014) has display corruption on WiDi, while the X1 Carbon (original) works fine. On the 2014 X1 Carbon, you get display corruption, and choppy squeaky audio every few seconds. With the original everything is smooth as silk. Any thoughts? I've already run Lenovo System Update on X1 Carbon (2014) as well as Windows Update, so everything is up to date. Don't know what else to try? Clearly, it's not the TV, nor the router, nor interference - since one machine works and the other doesn't... Thanks!

Hi, I have a 2nd gen X1 Carbon (Type 20A7) that I bought about 3 years ago. I bought it configured with a 256GB SSD, but I'm quickly running out of space and would like to upgrade the drive. I have a few questions about this: I believe this generation of the X1 Carbon came with a max SSD size of 256GB, but does the system/motherboard, etc. support larger sizes? Is there a limit? I'm aiming for either 512 GB, or possibly 1 TB.Will the size of a new drive I choose impact speed/performance in any way?Lenovo doesn't seem to sell a 512 GB drive or larger drive for this system. Can I use a non-Lenovo one (i.e. bought from Newegg, Amazon, etc.)? I searched around on the Lenovo forums and it sounds like it's a stanard M.2 drive in the 2nd gen X1 Carbon, so should I be fine as long as I get an M.2 drive?M.2 drives have a few different connector types: B, M, and B+M. Does anyone know which connector type I need to get for the 2nd gen X1 Carbon?I'm planning on cloning my current drive onto the new larger one. What kind of adaptors, etc. would I need to do this? Also, I've never cloned a drive before so please excuse me if this is a dumb question, but are there any issues cloning a smaller drive to a larger drive (i.e. the system only recognizing 256GB on the new larger drive)?Any other things I should keep in mind? Thanks in advance!

Answer:X1 Carbon Gen 2 (Type 20A7) SSD Upgrade

Lenovo lists 512GB drives as available, but there is no motherboard limit.  On that model, you need one that is described as SATA-3 (not NVMe) and size 2280.  Drives have B + M Key.  Not Lenovo drives should work, but I always suggest checking the seller's return policy in case of problems.

I'm having trouble finding an adapter for my X1 Carbon M.2 SSD.  The laptop is fried, but I'm hoping to get some of the files out of the SSD.  The model number is Intel SSDSCMMW240A3L and I've found that it's a "B Key" 6 pin connector, but it seems like around the pins is different (less space alloted between the 6 and the next 20 pins).  So standard M.2 adapters won't work Is anyone aware of any type of external adapters that I can plug this unit into?  They can be Sata, USB, PCIE, doesn't matter. Thanks

I've just ordered a new X1 but I'd like to install Linux on it but keep the W7 install as well. I was going to try to clone W7 to an external drive and boot from that (apparently it is possible with limitations) but I've read that the WWAN card is a standard M.2 card. I've checked out the Sierra company that supply the wireless cards but I'm still waiting to hear if it is a B or M type connector. Looking at the image and checking other technical docs it look like a B type connector. I need to know if the WWAN card socket will accept only B type cards or M or even B/M cards. Thanks in Advance.

The bluescreen does not occur anymore but the computer always freezes after several minutes and gets stuck in a boot loop. Dear Friends,I have a persistant issue that neither local lenovo techniciens or myself could resolve. As the entire computer was changed and the problem is still going on, this is probably a serie issue. Although, I couldn't find anybody having the same issue on forums. Description of the problem:The bluetooth is pairing and connecting well. But when playing music through bluetooth speakers, whatever is the receiver (UE Boom, Logitech BT Received, Bose...), I experience persistant lagging. Sometimes, it can work well for 10-15 minutes, but usually it lags very frequently. Strange thing is that with any other transmitting devices (T400s, smartphones, low cost computers...) I've never got this problem. A bit frustrating considering the price of a Carbon X1. I also noticed the exact same problem when being in different places. Attemps to solve to problem:I reinstalled Windows 7 and Windows 10 many times, as well as several versions of bluetooth and audio drivers (whether featured by lenovo and intel). Got no improvement. Lenovo service changed the bluetooth chip. No results. Then they changed the mothercard. No results. They even send me a entire new computer. No changes. I must confess I'm out of ideas. Would be the community and/or the support team kind enough to help me? Thank you.

Having an issue with my X1 Yoga  riinning Win10 64-bit and all firmware & drivers are up to date. I often plug in an HDMI screen to my machine and when I do and step away for a few mins the screen goes blank to save power etc. When I return and click these or hit a key the backlight on the laptop comes back on but no image is displayed on either the laptop nor the HDMI monitor. If I unplug the HDMI cable then the laptop screen comes back perfectly and then I can plug the HDMI back in and get the image back on my larger monitor. This seems much different issue then the "blank screen" I read up on and appears to be a detecing from sleep state issue in the driver etc. Anyone else have this? Any fixes for this as I'm plugging the HDMI in/out/in 5 times a day or more... This never occured in the past so appears to be an update issue.

So this is my second X1 Carbon and I had no problems whatsoever with the first one. With this one the problems started after I upgraded to Windows 10: more and more frequent BSODs, sometimes 10/day. I upgraded all the drivers, ran sfc /scannow, used also the DISM resotre health command, no issues found and it still gives me every now and then the blue screen.  What I also noticed is that when it's not plugged in, so relying only on battery, video and sound playback is very choppy and performance slows down. Again, I found no fault with the video drivers and they're the latest version. What am I to do with this one?

Hello people, This is my first Lenovo PC (have always been a Mac user ever since i learned how to handle PCs) and I am trying to get used to windows UI. The user experience is improving day by day. If there is something that I simply can't stand so far, it is the tapping (instead of left or right clicks in trackpad) in my touchpad. It is pretty jumpy from being sensitive to no response and back again. I have tried uninstalling Synaptics drivers, getting the generic one from windows online but nothing seems to help. Any ideas? And please guide me to page where i can find useful tips/tricks on other customizations.

Answer:X1 Carbon Thinkpad (Type 20BS) touchpad tap sensitivity

sounds like your laptop got a defective touchpad :/ only option is to return it to store asap and have it re-placed with new one since my x1 carbon 3rd gen has no touchpad issue at all it slides and so just as normal.

X1 Hangs on restart after a software update:  Windows 10, Norton, Lenovo, etc. After several forced power-offs (holding the power button) the X1 again reboots, with sometimes the update intact or as todays failure, Norton was being updated and my Norton is no longer installed.  This is the 2nd time this has happened to the Norton install.  Usually the Windows Update is in place after I finially get the X1 to boot normally to my Windows 10 install. I have removed the docking attachment before the restart to see if this helps, but it does not seem to help.  I have both attahced the HDD or removed it, but that too does not seem to prevent the problem. Is this an SSD bug? X1:  SSD 256 GBDocking Attachment1 TB HDD USB 3.0 with backup copiesMS Windows 10 (current version, (its updates have caused restart hangs also))Image size:   Used Space 60.2 GBFree Space:  36.7 GBCapacity:  97.0 GB Regards, DOGGONE
