Question: T440 Ram,proccesor and battery questions.

Hello,Im sorry if this topic is brought up many times but I need help.I bought a used T440 but the seller didnt have much usefull info if I can upgrade the memory.Currently have 4gb and wondering if there is a way to find out if I have a free slot .Also is it worth to seek a core i7 to replace the core i5?And finaly it seem that I have only the removable battery,is this mean that I might use the free space inside for something like additional hard drive or there is a problem with the internal battery that is not shown or its just missing for some reason.I know that I sound like a noob (i am please help.My MTM is 20B7S0C000 if that helps.thank you.

Preferred Solution: T440 Ram,proccesor and battery questions.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have what appears to be a msata and a m.2 slot. The msata has a Intel dual band wireless card in it. The slot to the left looks like a m.2 slot with nothing in it.  Will any 2242 ssd fit in it or does it have to be single sided. Also the laptop has no internal battery just a spacer. Is it possible to add a battery to this model? There is no 3rd m.2 slot under the internal battery spacer, can this be added to the t440? Laptop is the standard t440 (not the s or p)

Hello forum, The HDD on my T440 failed within 3 months of light use, and unfortunately Lenovo only sent me a refurbished HDD. Since, this refurbished HDD has only a 3-month warranty, I decided to upgrade to an SSD and I just bought a Samsung 850 Evo 500 GB SSD. One big mistake I made was that I did not have any backup and lost all my data. Lenovo is kind enough to send me 3 recovery discs and I am planning to perform a fresh install on the SSD.  Since I never performed an HDD replacement, I have some questions and hope I will get some answers: 1. What size screwdriver should I buy to open the base cover of my T440? Do I need a different sized screwdriver to remove the HDD? 2. My T440 also came with a 16 GB caching SSD. Can I just remove it without worrying about any issues? 3. SInce I will be using the recovery discs sent by Lenovo, I will be connecting to an external DVD burner and use the recovery discs in order suggested by Lenovo. Accordingly, the first 2 discs would be "Applications and Drovers Recovery and the final disc would be the OS, which is Windows 7 professional. Before I start using recovery media, I will restart laptop-----> Enter BIOS-----> Enable AHCI----->Change system to "Boot from DVD Drive" 1st------>Save new BIOS settings and Exit. Is this the right way of doing this? 4. Finally, I heard that I have to make some changes like disabling defragmentation, etc after installing the SSD. Can I just u... Read more

Answer:T440 - Fresh install on SSD Questions

Regarding your queries:JIS cross #1 and #0 are usually all you need with a Thinkpad. You should only need to remove this if it is no longer desired. I don't know about the T440, but other Thinkpad recovery disks did not have separate Windows media.  You do not need to change the save the Boot from DVD in the BIOS.  You should only need to temoporarily change the boot device on startup.Windows 7 should detect the SSD and operate accordingly.  It doesn't hurt to check, though.  I have no idea bout the Samsung Magician.  Just check it manually.  ---m_a_s

I have a T440 laptop that suddenly decided it's having an error with the internal battery that shipped with the system (which is a genuine battery, has not been touched/removed and was working fine until this morning).  The error displaying is: "The battery installed is not supported by this system and will not charge. Please replace the battery with the correct Lenovo battery for this system." I updated to the atest BIOS a few weeks ago, have the latest Power Manager and Power Manager driver as of a few days ago. External/removable battery is fine. Any thoughts on how to resolve this, or anyone else having this issue?

Answer:T440 Internal Battery issue

Hi all, recently I bought Lenovo t440. How long should last battery (s) in this laptop in normal or power saving use with screen at 65-80 %? I know this laptop have two batteries , and both of them are 3 cell right ? Extended battery have 6 cell, which I don't have, but might I would  buy it . I noticed my both batteries last max 3,5 hours max 4. This is from I what know - slightly short.  Before I buy some of this batteries I would like to know which one is maybe fault, or worst of them. Maybe is faulty inside battery, maybe plug in one.  My battery indicator in win 8.1 shows both bAtteries ... It seems windows recognize capacity or remaining storage from both of batteries in same time,or, should I say, it seems my laptop is running on power from both of them in real time... Maybe laptop should drain batteries one by one ? Ok, if this is normal, let's skip it     main question is still, how to check each batterie health / or one by one in mY T440  to see which one is maybe faulty or less good, for potential replacement ?   thank you all

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T440 and the batteries are showing battery error in the Power Manager. I am unable to update my BIOS to see if that will solve it and my batteries don't seem to be eligible for a Firmware update. My Warranty is also expired. Anyone have any suggestions? error is showing up on both batteries  (Front internal and rear removable). Laptop works fine when plugged in but will not power on if it does not have a charger connected. Batteries don't charge at all (With or without it being powered on) All suggestions welcome. Would prefer not to have to get a new battery set as these ones are relatively new and shouldn't be throwing this error. I do not have a spare Thinkpad I can test the batteries in or that I can test a known good battery from.

Answer:T440 external battery not charging

Hi Valdemar_d,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with External battery not charging on your ThinkPad T440.

The problem you are running into is Power Manager conflicting with the 80% BIOS threshold.  So to avoid this, either keeps the Power Manager threshold for both batteries below 80%, or else both batteries above 80%.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

After buying a T440 (not throuh lenovo), I realized that it has capability to hold an internal battery. But the item I bought didn't have one. Instead it came with a 6 cell external battery which protrudes in the back. Is there any way I can have internal battery added now? I see that some sites like Amazon are selling replacement internal batteries; can I buy it and install in my laptop? Thanks in advance for your replies!

Hello, I've just bought a second hand T440, and windows 7 tells me that battery #1 is "missing" (battery #2 is ok).If i take out the external battery while in BIOS or Windows, the computer shuts down, so I believe it's not a driver issue. My BIOS is up to date (2.29), set to default configuration.Do you think it's a hardware issue? Thanks for your helpPierre

Hi, recently i bought from ebay an thinkpad t440 20B7-S0FV11 i5 4300u with 8Gb of RAM and 500Gb hdd. This laptop came without front battery (internal), it just came with the external one so i bought one internal battery on the internet and put it myself on my laptop.I press the reset button on the button of the laptop and turn it on.The issue is that windows (and also ubuntu) didn't recognize the battery. Windows say: "battery not detected"!I already update BIOS and everything and the battery still not detected.Initially, i thought that the battery was damaged but i charged it directly from the external battery, plug it inside of my laptop and turn it on. The laptop still not recognized the battery (and did not charge it neither), and windows says: Battery not detected! But the laptop work without external battery and charger, just with internal battery! (despite that not charging or detected) So i thought that the lithium cells are probably ok.I want to know if it's a battery problem, some lenovo firmware on battery (since battery came from china) or some problem with laptop!Thank you all.(sorry for my english)

I'm contemplating purchasing a T440. I'd like to know what the average battery time you get out of regular usage - light - mild surfing, some picture browsing/editing, some video playback online (YouTube). I love the keyboard, not OVERLY fond of the trackpad, but I'm sure it takes getting used to.Anyone purchase the T440 that wasn't fond of the trackpad but then got used to it eventually and liked it? Thanks in advance.

Hello The subject of this message says it all. When I want to start my T440 without AC power, it happens quite often that the machine will not start at all - no lights, nothing. In such a case I am forced to plug in AC power just for 1 second, hit the power button and then my T440 will start. Sometimes it starts without AC power, but then again sometimes it does not. it seems random. Note: I am not talking about resuming from hibernation or etc, I am talking about a new, fresh start.I searched the internet in detail for a solution, but no result to my problem. Of course I read from other users having problems starting up their T440, but never exactly the same problem. My battery lasts for a couple of hours.  What to do? I am in Myanmar, far away from support. I tried many things already, including taking batteries out, start, turn off, start again.... Many thanks for your help.

Hi there,  I have recently acquired an T440 [Type 20b6] and everything was working fine until I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro (Three days ago). I initially had some issues which I resolved, however I am unable to resolve the issue with "Battery 1" not charging. It is staying at "0% and not charging". I have tried the following; - Upgrading the Lenovo Power Management  driver to 1.67.13.12 - Removal of the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" driver- Removing the battery and charging it in a Windows 7 machine (works fine) - BIOS/UEFI upgrade to GJET92WW 2.42- Removing the external battery and charging "Battery 1" on its own using Windows 10- I know the hardware is fine because it was charging under Windows 7 I'll appreciate any tips on how I can resolve this issue,  Thanks, XX00A1

Hello forum, I bought a like-new T440 last week (500 GB+16 GB, 8 GB RAM, i5) & my experience so far has not been good at all. I am a student on budget & I got it to replace my failing 5-yr old atom powered netbook. I don't really care about other widely reported problems with this model like the button-less keypad. But the 1600x900 TN screen is so bad when compared to my old netbook's screen that I can't believe how Lenovo got away by putting this screen in an ultrabook.  There are other issues that have been bugging me and I need some help: 1. The brightness keys stop working after a while (for example, after waking the laptop from hibernation). They will not work until I restart the system again. Is there any way to resolve this issue? 2. The Access connections also stops working after a while and shows that I am not connected to the net even when I am online. How can I fix this problem? Or is it safe to turn off access connections & just rely on Windows network and sharing center? 3. The battery life is abysmal. With minimum brightness and mainly word-processing work and occasional youtube video streaming, I am getting less than 4 hrs. Is this normal? I use the "High energy savings option" & lenovo turbo boost diable option while on battery. I have a 3cell + 3 cell (48 Wh total). It says that the battery health is good & battery cycle count is 6 on both internal and external batteries. Considering that it is an old model, i... Read more

My X1 is about a month and a half old: 1. Battery life on a charge appears to be a little under 3 hours without changing the settings it came with. I know there are setting to maximize the time on one charge but for normal factory settings is this time normal? 2. When I check battery Power and Performance it states that the battery is at 85% of its original capacity. To lose so much capacity in just a month and a half seems odd. Is this normal or can this measure vary? All in all I am having a very positive experience with this computer however I am a little concerned with these power readings I am getting. Thanks in advance.

Answer:X1 Battery Life on a charge and Battery Health Questions

hey bbfolgart,1 - since you did not change any setting, the hours of usage in my opinion is about right; though this also depends on the battery you are using as well as other factors such as screen brightness; application that you're using, if the wireless is on, etc. all of this plays a role on the how much power is left for the battery.2. battery going down to 85% capacity is weird. for this try doing a battery gauge reset from the Power Manager. At the same time, do fully charge the battery and then use your unit without the AC adapter until the battery fully discharges.Recharge the battery and do not use it at this time. Once fully charge, use it again without adapter and see how long the battery last and check the capacity as well.while you do all of this, do check on http://support.lenovo.com if there is any updates for the Power Manager software that you are using and update if applicable.

How do u know if ur processor is a 32 bit or a 64 bit?

Answer:Proccesor and os question

On the Windows operating system, go to the Start menu > All Programs. Open the Accessories folder, then the System Tools folder. In the System Tools folder, select the System Information option.

In the System Information window, on the right side, look for the System Type option under the Item column. The associated value, in the Value column, will tell you which type of CPU the computer has in it. If the System Type value includes "x86" in it, the CPU is 32-bit. If the System Type value includes "x64" in it, the CPU is 64-bit.

A 32-bit Processor can't run a 64-bit Operation System.

Question: Proccesor Speed

How do I find it? A friend's selling a PC & doesn't know the anything about it. Ive looked in system info - doesn't say processor speed. I can't see any clock speed on boot up. He thinks it's about a 1500 but info only says processor Intel Pentium family 8,3 speed. It's not running well and I suspect it can be cured with a complete re-instal of Windows. It was bought with ME on it but someone put 98 on it & there's lots of errors coming up including no mouse detected that requires a reboot. Is this likley to be a problem that can be cured with software, or is something else wrong?

Answer:Proccesor Speed

Get a copy of AIDA32 and run that - it'll tell you pretty much all you need to know about the system specs.

Answer:Solved: What proccesor is best what my pc would run?

Here is a link to the CPU support list for your motherboard: http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=IQoVElAYUAC4aAz3&content=overview

You could use up to an Athlon 64 3700+ for a modest gain in performance over a Sempron 2800+ but I wouldn't spend much money on it.

Answer:Can Someone Help Me Speed Up My Proccesor

What you want to do is called "Overclocking"

We have a guide on how to do it.

Also, you may want to follow the instructions in this post for software speed boosts.

None of the software listed in your poll is relevant - those are *mostly* security applications.

Question: dual proccesor

WHAT DOES A DUAL PROCCESOR DO?
pros?
cons?
speed changes?
everything u can think of?:beard:

Answer:dual proccesor

More work for less money, cheaper to add another processor than another whole PC,even with the extra cost of a special motheboard. That applies to dual cores or dual processor boards.

It isnt double the speed though, you lose some due to latency and shared memory etc etc.

Software is an issue, not all OS's or apps do multiprocessing very well if at all.

They cost more, in some cases, lots more.

It means that it gets past post (where it does the memory test.)

I have a Pavillion ze4430us laptop and it currently contains an 8 cell battery is there anyway i can buy a 12 cell battery to support a better motherboard (intigrated) that can run at more than 2.8 p4 processor are 8 cell and 12 cell interchangeable?

Answer:Battery questions!~!

Duh, the word cell doesn't mean much.

Basically it is what is the output voltage? Will it fit into any size restrictions and what type connector is required?

In general you don't buy a battery for most hi-tech gear unless it says it is suitable for that particular make / model / brand unit that you have. Lots of ways to get into trouble.

You can search around and see if there is any type of upgrade battery pak for your particular model computer.

Hello community! Could me someone explain the results of Battery Check from HP assistant (attached a screenshot). I have made a diagnostic and found out that  only 3/4 elements were gaining a charge? I bought this laptop last week, so it's a new model. Additional questions:1) What does the last line into screenshot mean? It looks like "???????: 1125 ?????????? ". 2) Is it ok if my notebook drop the charge down  from 100% to 91% when it was off for 1 day?  Unfortunately I can attach a screenshot only on Russian but i think the structure of results the same in any language. Sorry if my Engilsh was poor. Waiting with hope your answers guys.

There was an older thread for this motheboard but I don't think Pentium D's were out then. It's an old motherboard but I'd like to put enough RAM in it so that it can run Chrome with ease. What's the best processor I can put in it? Can I put a pentium D in it? Also for the RAM, it has 4 slots. Ideally I could put one large stick in there but if it would be cheaper to put in 4 smaller sticks, I'd rather do that. What is the maximum amount of RAM I can put in it?

Motherboard:
Board: Dell Inc. 0M3918
Bus Clock: 800 megahertz

Current CPU:
3.00 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
16 kilobyte primary memory cache
1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache
Hyper-threaded (2 total)

Current RAM:
2x256 MB

If this MB can only be upgraded only slightly, then should I just get a regular Micro ATX for this case? I'd like to use everything possible without building everything from scratch. I recently put a Pentium D in a similarly aged computer and added only 1 extra GB of RAM and it's made a world of difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated .

Answer:What is the highest proccesor my motherboard can have?

The only one who can tell you what cpus are supported is dell. Next that is pretty old tech and [IMO] not really worth putting any money into upgrades, etc.

In order to help you, post the exact make and model of the system. They we can tell you how much ram it will support.

If this MB can only be upgraded only slightly, then should I just get a regular Micro ATX for this case?Click to expand...

You do understand that if you swap mb, you have to purchase a new copy of windows. OEM type lic live and die with the original hardware; you change the board and you need a new copy of windows.

what is the general decideing factors for you when matching proccesors and memory. i have a p4 640 [email protected] fsb...... my motherboard will support ddr and ddr 2. but wich speed of memory will be best for my situation..i will watch movies play games and i will do photo editing but mostly web surfing and school work.

Answer:matching proccesor and memory

the speed is dependent on the FSB speed. For DDR and the 800 MHz FSB, it needs to run at 400MHz or be labeled as PC3200. I don't know if it is any different with DDR2. If you get slower RAM, it will clock down your FSB and CPU. If you get faster RAM, it will simply clock the RAM down to the speed of the FSB.

I have a ECS P4S5A 1.0 Mobo, and I recently purchased a Pentium 4 2.8GHz w/ 400mhz FSB.
Now the numbers all match (mPGA478-B, 400fsb, blah blah) but I know this guy who says my mobo might only support up to 2.4 GHz.
So i searched online, gota few results, one says up to 3.0GHz and another said up to 2.2GHz

So.. I ask you this, will my 2.8GHz work?

Windows vista home 64-bit

With some care, you can, but most who try it do not see significant improvements in speed... because it is the Front Side Bus that makes the operational difference... more than so with the CPU.

Do these batteries have "memory" like they used to. I can't seem to find the type of battery in this device.   Also, should the device be turned off or is just closing the lid ok. Hello, I have some questions about the best way to prolong the life span of the batteries since there seems to be a contradiction in the manual: Page 59 states: "In addition, the useful lifespan of the battery is adversely affected by the following usage patterns: ? Using the computer on constant AC power..." But page 60 states: "Optimizing battery life...You are advised to follow the suggestions set out below: ? Use AC power whenever possible, reserving battery for mobile use..." So what should I do: use AC power whenever possible or not? I use AC power at home almost every time and while gaming. Also, should I completely discharge the battery regularly (e.g. once a month)?  Should I disconnect the AC power when the computer is turned off or leave it connected? Thanks and regards, Miguel

Hi, I'm looking to replace the 4 year old battery on my T420 Type 4177 for one that can hold more charge. I'm not too knowledgable on computer things so I figured I'd ask here before I bought one. I used the battery finder tool on the lenovo website and they said I could use the 0A36303 or 0A36302. My confusion is that my laptop came with a 42T4911 battery (55+ 6 cell) and both of the suggested batteries listed before are 70+. Is the difference between 55+ and 70+ a problem? Also, I have a 65W 20V AC adapter (42T4419). Will this work with the 70+ 6cell or 9 cell (0A36303 or 0A36302)?

Answer:T420 battery questions

Hello.

Both 55+(+) and 70+(+) will work for your T420. The difference between them is that the 70+(+) are later models which can also support the newer ThinkPad XX30 models.

The 6 cell is 70+ and the 9 cell is 70++.

Hope this helps!
Cheers!

Getting a Surface Pro 3 soon, but wanted to know somethings before I get it. I don't want to ruin the Surface Pros battery and want to make it last as long as possible.
1. Does anyone know whether you have to charge the device for a certain amount of hours once you unbox it, or doesn't it matter when you put it on charge or take it off. Like when I first charge it can I charge it to like 50% whilst using it and then lets say want to go to another room and still charge it, can I take it off charge and resume charging in the other room without ruining the battery?
2. That leads me on to my second question. Can you use the Surface Pro 3 whilst charging it? So lets say I know I'm going to be working on a certain document all day would I be able to keep it on charge whilst I'm using it without overcharging or ruining the battery at all?
3. Do you have to charge the Surface to 100% in order to 'look after' the battery? If so does that mean that you need to let it (almost) completely die and then charge it?
4. Final question... Does leaving the Surface on charge for a long period of time ruin the battery? So let's say I leave it on overnight to charge, will that ruin my battery?
I know that's a lot of questions, I just don't wan to ruin it since it's not cheap and you can't manually replace the insides. I'm sure a lot of other people want to know too.
Thanks in advance :)

Answer:Surface Pro 3 Battery Questions...

Charge as you need and dont worry, battery comes partially precharged and while it's probably good to put it charging cos you will be installing updates and apps and using it a lot cos it's new and fancy so you don't want to run out of juice. But you don't need to worry about "letting it charge to 100% without using it" or anything else. You can use it while charging. No need for old "tricks" anymore, batteries have come a long way since. My Surface RT has been always on the charger when idle when at home and almost two years later I still get the same 10h battery life out of it.
Batteries nowadays don't really "count" the times they've been charger, it's more about how many full cycles you put it through. So charging a modern device 4 times for 25% is the same as charging it for 100% once, except letting batteries actually run completely dry is the most harm you can do to them these days. It is however good to note though that it might take several full cycles before it calibrates and reaches it's full potential correctly and for achieving this it might be beneficial to let it run to at least almost dry, however it is not necessary and at least don't leave it completely dry for a long period of time.

Hello, I just got my Lenovo T410 shipped today.  Somehow, I seem to be unable to fully charge my battery.  The battery life is always stuck at 99%, and the powermanger states that I have 1 minute to go before charging is complete ( however, I have waited 1 hour already).  Should I call into technical support for them to take a look, or is this some software glitch that can be fixed with some with some update? Also, another problem (never had a thinkpad before), I have encountered is that when I unplug the power cable from my computer, my screen goes black for 2-3 seconds.  Is this normal? Here are my battery stats: Percentage : 99%Remaining capacity: 93.78 whFull charge: 95.10 whCycle count: 0Design capacity:93.24  Thanks in advance, Etieu

Answer:T410 Battery Questions

1) try updating the battery firmware, but new batteries sometime don't charge to 100% to minimize battery wear, this is a software controlled thing.

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/ThinkPad-Battery-Firmware-Update-fix-a-low-...

2) Go into your power manager (thinkvantage) then prevent the refresh rate to drop from 60 hz to 50 hz in the settings for your current power plan.

Any tips to help conserve/prolong my battery life? It's a Li-on Battery and I've heard that over-charging is bad so when I plan on sitting on the laptop for a long time I take the battery out and just use the AC power. Is this good or bad? Also, when doing this - should I wait until the battery is fully drained? Does it matter? Or can I just take it out at any state aslong as the laptop is off? Also, I've heard that consistantly using your full batter (when its 100% to unplug and then use it until its at critical and then to fully charge it again) is this cycle healthy? Or is this something I should only be doing a few times a month to keep the lithium alive?

Laptop: Lenovo G560

Answer:G560 - Battery Questions

I had exactly the same questions a while ago. Based on my "research" on various sites, I was able to reach the following conclusions:-Li-Ion batteries don't suffer from "memory effect", so it shouldn't matter when you start charging them and how much you charge them;-if possible, you should avoid frequent full discharge cycles, and start charging at around 40 % of capacity left;-a full discharge cycle is advised about once a month;-a battery doesn't like heat too much, as its longevity shortens (something it has in common with me ). (I've noticed that wisely designed laptops have their battery positioned in the area where least or no heat is generated.)-if you don't use the battery for a while (or just store an extra battery), you're supposed to store it in a cool place (I even heard "fridge"...), partially charged (I think it was somewhere between 40-75%).-Not sure how it is with running on AC with 100% charged battery, but I won't remove it. It's not supposed to do any harm as long as there are controls in chargers and laptops, which stop charging when the battery is at 100%. The heat issue (mentioned above) may be present, though, if the device is poorly designed. If any of these works, I can't tell just yet. Right now I was on battery for 1.5 hrs (from 100% to 10% with "first warning" to recharge ASAP), despite the specs say it should last for 4 hours. But there have been external devices connected to the machine, though (Logitech Unifying for wireless mouse, USB hu... Read more

I just bought a new battery for my Inspiron 1501 from Dell. I have some basic questions:

1. When I plug in the computer using the power cord, sometimes the battery icon reads "plugged in, charging" but sometimes I get "plugged in, not charging". Is this normal? The second version doesn't make sense to me.

2. The Dell guy I spoke to about battery use and charging said I should not let the battery get below 10% and also that once the battery is fully charged I should not use the power cord. Are these statements correct?

I was hoping to use the battery mostly without the power cord during the day and charge the battery at night, but it will not take entire night to charge the battery. I usually don't shut down the computer at night but put it in sleep mode. Would it be better to shut the computer off at night while the battery is charging?

If the battery runs out of power while I'm using the computer is the worst thing that can happen is that the computer shuts down and I might lose some word document if I hadn't saved it?

3. Is there any good website you recommend that deals with basics about battery use, charging the battery, etc.?

THANKS!

Hi everybody! (in my best Dr. Nick voice)

My mother, in her infinite wisdom, decided to purchase a Toshiba Satellite 2800 laptop on Ebay. What she didn't read was that the laptop doesn't work with the ac adapter (they have tried it with two different adapters, evidently they think it's th AC port that is messed up). I don't have any knowledge of laptops so I am seeking advice.

So, the options I think we can take are:

1) Get the AC port fixed. Is this possible? How much does repair like this usually run? Is this something that we will have to send in to Toshiba or can most CPU repair stores do something like this?

2) Get a battery and run it solely on this. I have searched on Ebay for a Li-Ion batteries, but one thing that has occurred to me is this--do normally these batteries come with a charger, or is that something that generally needs to be purchased separately? If this is our only option, do most people get an extra battery? And-if we have to purchase a charger, what do most cost?

What we are ultimately getting at is if the cost of repair/accessories is exorbitant, we will just cut our losses and relist this to sell and find something else. Any help is appreciated. Thanks all!!!!

Answer:Laptop Battery Questions

Well, the internal power circuit seems to be at fault, and that's not a job for an amateur, so I'd suspect that Toshiba will have to fix it. It's going to cost several hundred at least, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was somewhat more.

As far as running on battery, the battery is normally charged in the laptop, so you still have the same problem.

I recommend you cut your losses and relist the thing. I just bought a new laptop for $800, and now I see the same one with wireless capability for $750! There's really no point in buying laptops used at this point in time...

Answer:Battery questions about the R61i+T61

uldall, welcome to the forum, If your T61 is a 4:3 screen format or a 15,4 Wide format your battery is not compatible with the R61 MT 7762. If you have a 14" Wide T61 the battery is compatible. You can see on this site which batteries are suitable for the 14" Wide.

Someone told me to run the perfmon /report report for resource montior.

I am getting this one warning. "High average interrupts / processor. This machine has 8 processors and 6 network cards. Total Interrupts/sec on the machine is 51559. The average interrupts per processor per sec is 6445."

This seems like a really really high number compared to the average. Does anybody know how I could find the cause of this problem?

Answer:slow as heck pc with fast proccesor?

Are you sure you don't have a virus? What anti-virus programs have you run? Keep in mind, the changes ccleaner makes(ex: the registry) can sometimes make things worse. Its recommend to stay pretty much out of there, unless you understand what its doing, or need to change something with the registry.

I got this from donation. When I plug it in, it seems to turn on by itself and makes a lower pitched buzzing from anything else. Sounds kind of like a buzzer in some movies. Anybody know if this is ok or bad? (Edit) Turns out it was the pc speaker and it was saying that the ram was wrong. Fixed now!

Answer:Lenovo G780 proccesor speed

Hi milanji,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

The oscillation in the ? i3 3110M ? Processor is normal according to the cache flow rate which is directly depending on the number of applications used and the clock speed is automatically tuned and locking the clock is not possible please check the below link for the more information of the processor, locking the processor speed to its max may affect the cache memory and transfer rate.

Intel® Core? i3-3110M Processor (3M Cache, 2.40 GHz)

Hope this helps!!!

Answer:Application run well in Intel proccesor but it don't run in AMD processor

Are you programming is Visual Studio? If so which version?

When you compiled, is your application settings set to allow the program to run on all types of processors?

Is all the .Net framework installed and up-to-date on the Windows XP machine?

I purchased a satellite M70-192 and have two question about it;
1-when the battery pack is fully charged, can i leave the Ac adapter connected and run computer on AC,or remove Battery Pack to prevent OverCharging?
2-how Long time battery should run computer if it's fully charged?(Approximately)

Answer:Satellite M70-192: Two questions about Battery pack

Hi

1. You must not remove the battery. Your unit is at the latest standard and the batteries can not be ?overloaded?. It is recommended to work from time to time with battery power supply and discharge them.
2. This depends on the notebook usage. Usually you should be able to use it about 2 hours.

Hi all I have an X300 and I'd like to know a few things:- I have located the SIM under the battery.. by pure coincidence. I plugged in my SIM (3G - Telstra NextG) and tried to connect to the net but it didn't get detected. I used the same SIM in a dongle and it worked fine. It could be two things: I don't have a modem installedI haven't enabled the internal modem Question: How can I determine if I have a modem? and If I do then how do I check it's configured properly? - Battery: My battery currently lasts around 3hrs and I'd like to improve my battery life. Question: How can I tell if I have a 3 cell or a 6 cell battery? - I read somewhere, I can't find it anymore, that the X300 comes equiped with a GPS. Question: Is that true?

Hi everyon, it's my first post, so be gentle please.I am very close to buy a refurbished Thinkpad X1 (yes not the carbon but the 13.3 inch one) for my studys. I don't have the money for the carbon but I want to take it at least every weekend or even sometimes in the evening back home (on my bicycle). I need a decent CPU (data analysis in R / image analysis) and a good keyboard. Is it the right one for me?The only negative point that bothers me is the battery. 1) In different tests and posts I've seen the battery life from 2h up to 6 hours while surfing the internet. What can I expect when writing a document and reading pdfs and listen to music while WIFI is on? 2) Can I replace the battery? Or is it totally impossible: glued or soldered on? I don't mind opening it up and disconnect the different stuff / unscrew parts? 3) Are there different versions / model? The one I saw is 1294-2BG. Does this mean anything? Thanks for any hints and help

Answer:X1 questions: battery life&removal

Hey there Micki,

Unfortunately I am not a X1 user can really give you any advice on what you could expect, but I can shed some light on a few of your other questions.

2) You should take a look at the Hardware maintenance Manual concerning the battery. It states "Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox has an automatic battery diagnostic that determines if the battery pack is defective. A battery pack FRU should not be replaced unless this diagnostic shows that the battery is defective." It also gives direction on how replace the battery if you need to do so, including some BIOS settings you will need to look at. The battery does not appear to be soldered or glued on, it is a removable component.

3) The 1294-2BG is machine type and model number, this identifies the overall configuration of the machine, and can give you basic details on what to expect. For the machine you are looking at, we can tell you have:

i5-2520M(2.50GHz), 4GB RAM, 128GB Solid State Drive, 13.3in 1366x768 LCD, Intel HD Graphics, Intel 802.11agn wireless, WWAN option, Bluetooth, 1Gb Ethernet, Ultranav, Secure Chip, Win7 Pro 64

I hope this information is beneficial to you in your decision making process.

Lately when I plug in my computer it goes back and forth between charging and not charging every few seconds. This last for and and hour or two once I start the computer and a few minutes every few hours throughtout the day. When I tested the battery it said it has failed and needs to be replaced as soon as possible, however, my laptop is too old and the battery is no longer available. I was just wondering if any harm can be done to my computer if I keep this battery in my computer? Also, if while having this battery in my computer as well as it going back and forth between charging and not charging, will that cause harm when I download music files? Will the music files properly download? And if I connect my ipod to the computer via USB will it be safe to do so and will there be any sort of unsafe electrical current going through the computer causing harm to the ipod or its files?

1) Why does my brand new laptop state in EnergyManager that the battery is "unauthorized"? Seems odd? Is it a UK model thing? 2) I understand that stated battery time is usually overstated and based on strict criteria? But is there anyway to find out what that criteria exactly is. I am not sure I can get over 60% of the stated 'maximum'. 3) If working on the laptop all day is it better to run off the cable and in  "conservation mode" ? I assume this means that after 60% charge power will be used directly and when unplugged the battery will only be charged to 60%. Correct?

I have a Lenovo Z510 (59405848) (Not Touch screen ) and my battery has weakened and only gives me 15 minutes of backup. So I need to change it ASAP. But I searched a lot of sites for the battery of this particular model, and some had Z510 batteries but none had it for the 59405848 one, at least it was not specifically mentioned. ( I do not know what the number represents ). So my questions are: 1. Are the batteries for all Z510 same? 2. Will any Z510 battery serve my purpose( I mean every battery I have seen for Z510 models seem exactly similar )? 3. What does the number 59405848 represent? 4. If this particular numbered Z510 has a specific different battery, where do I get it from?

Hey there,I got my first Thinkpad (S531) about a month ago and the good news is I really like working with a Thinkpad. However, there are a few things and issues that reading the forums did not yet solve. First a bit of technical info about my system:Model: Thinkpad S531OS: Win 8.1 (self-install)CPU: Intel Core i5 3337U @1.8GhzRAM: 6 GB (2GB+4GB)GPU: AMD Radeon HD8670M (+Intel HD Graphics 4000) 1) Battery Life.I know there are plenty of posts about this but I have a quite specific question all the forum posts I found couldn't answer: Does the battery at the point where the power level reaches 100% stop charging and power is taken only from the power connenctor? If so, is there a way of only charging the battery up to about 80% and then start using only the connector for power supply? 2) RAM.I bought my Thinkpad with 6GB RAM installed, a fixed 2 GB piece somewhere fixed on the motherboard and a 4GB piece in a normal RAM slot. Now, I know that this isn't ideal for dualchannelling, but that's got nothing to do with this problem. Rather it seems, that Windows only manages to access 2GB, according to what I read from the Task Manager (screenshot attached) What can I do to make all 6GB accessible?

I am trying to place my dieing T60, which I absolutely love. I am looking at the x200 or the T400s. The latter would be my preference due to the larger screen, but I have a few questions. For what it's worth, I am a student and I use my laptop as my primary computer. Consequently, I am looking for something that is reliable/comfortable for long hours of reading/word processing but capable of handling some "fun" functions like movies and simple photo editing as well. 1) From what I have read in the reviews, the graphics are underwhelming. I do not play games, but I use my laptop to watch TV/movies and for photo editing, mainly converting RAW to jpeg and minor alterations in Photoshop. Should the T400s' graphics be sufficient for this? 2) I'm curious about how effective/convenient the battery setup is. Battery life is important to me, so I would want to supplement the six cell battery with the Battery 42 that goes in in place of the optical drive. I have not seen this particular setup reviewed anywhere, so I was wondering if anyone here can comment on its efficacy and convenience. Does the optical drive really hold up to being popped in and out? Would it be practical to get two extra Battery 42s and switch one out for the other when the battery got low for additional life?2a) I gather the Battery 42 has a relatively short lifespan. How short is short? 3) I know that it is light for a computer of its size, but do you find that the 13.3 in length side-to-side negat... Read more

Answer:Considering T400s: Some questions about battery, graphics, etc

1. The battery life on the T400s would depend on which battery you get. 6 cells give about 4 to 5 hours battery life depending on usage.

2. The photo-editing are more dependent on CPU and not so much on GPU. The 4500 MHD gpu on the T400s supports native decoding of blu-ray movies.

3. The ultrabay battery, would be used up first and charged first, it is a 3 cells setup. It will add around 1 to 2 hrs battery time, depending on what power plan you are using it on. But i suggest you just get another 6 cells battery for the same price. The service life of battery is dependent on the number of cycles it goes through.

4. T400s is 14.1 inch setup, not 13.3 inch setup. The only 13.3 inch lenovo thinkpads are the X30x laptops (or SL300).

5. There are some problems, but these are not prevalent in every machines. My T400s that i had, did not exhibit electrical hardware faults or random shutdowns.

6. The keyboard on the T400s is comparable to the T60 keyboard.

I need a new notebook for business use.  Main use will be MS Office (Word, Excel, Access) and general web surfing.  No gaming, CAD, or movie watching.  I'm very interested in all day battery life, as I don't want to carry a charger moving around the office or going to the courthouse for property searches.  I can keep a spare battery in the car for when I need it.  I'm looking at the T420 or T520.  Here are a few random questions:If I order the 55++ 9 cell instead of the 55+ 6 cell, does the 9 cell "stick out" on the back of the computer?I've considered getting the 55+ 6 cell model, and ordering an optional 27++ 9 cell slice to be able to add on when I need it.  Can the slice be charged separately, i.e., without being attached to the notebook?  If fully charged and not attached to the notebook, will it hold its charge til I need it?I've also considered getting the 55+ 6 cell model, and ordering a spare 55++ 9 cell to be able to switch out when I need extended life.  Same question, if fully charged, will the spare battery hold its charge til I need it?Will increasing RAM increase battery life?  If I order with 4GBx1 and decide to increase to 4GBx2 in the future, can I utilize the original 4GBx1 and simply add another 4GBx1 (of the same specs), or do I need to replace both with the same brand?Given my uses, am I ok with the integrated graphics, or do I need to spring for the Optimus NVIDIA switchable graphics optio... Read more

Answer:T420 or T520-Battery & Other Questions

Alright:1.) Yes, the slice battery can be charged separately, but you're going to need the external battery charger (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-61244.html).2.) Yes, the 9-cell battery does stick out of the back of the notebook. 6-cell sits flush.3.) Yes, spare batteries will hold their charge.4.) You'll probably be fine with Integrated (the Intel graphics are better this time than in the T410/510). Also, Integrated graphics will get you better battery life than Optimus will.5.) Increasing RAM will not change your battery life.6.) Yes, it can be any brand. Also, you probably won't need more than 4GB anyways. If you need even more life (or don't want the 9-cell battery sticking out of the notebook), you can go with the Ultrabay battery- it goes in where the DVD drive is and gives you extra battery life (though that can't be charged outside the notebook unless you have a dock.)
