Flickering screen in game when plugged in

Question: Flickering screen in game when plugged in

I've just received my Y700 last week but from last weekends, the screen begins flashing in game when I plugged in the adapter. I've chatted with the support departments and updated all the drivers but it did not workAny ideas of that issue? Is there something wrong with the hardware?

Preferred Solution: Flickering screen in game when plugged in

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When plugged into the adapter my Levovo Z570 screen flickers between bright and dark when on certain webpages or doing certain tasks. I have changed the battery and this makes no difference. This doesnt happen when on battery power. Note that the brightness is flicking between the battery brightness setting and plugged in brightness setting. So if there is a large difference between the two the flickering is very noticable and distracting. If I make the battery brightness the same as the plugged in brightness the flickering doesnt happen. Any ideas or solutions?

Hello everyone I am having a problem with my laptop. It recently started about a week or two ago. I have had the laptop for about 10 months now. The problem I am having is that whenever the ac adapter is plugged in the screen will blink or flicker. But when I unplug the adapter it's normal again. What could the problem be? I am also have a problem with the ac adapter. The program called One Key Optimizer displays: "the adapter has limited support and needs to be replaced." Is it possible for an adapter to go bad so soon? I hope there is an solution to this problem. I have had an asus laptop that has lasted 6+ years so this discourages me from purchasing another lenovo product. Maybe I am just having bad luck. Here is a video of the problem I recorded for anyone that would like to see.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_3uqeJ12Bc

Answer:Lenovo Y40-80 Screen Flickering/Blinking/Flashing while Plugged in

I called lenovo and received help on the issue. Basically they had me turn off my computer, unplug the ac adapter, hold the power button for 60 seconds, after that hold the u shaped recovery button for 5 seconds. Went into the bios settings>load default settings>save changes. After that turn on the computer, go into device manager>display adapters>right click intel hd and uninstall it>lastly click on the action tab> scan for hardware changes>restart the computer. I noticed that the flashing/blinking problem is gone the intel hd display adapter is removed and now replaced with Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. I also noticed now I can't adjust the brightness settings and I can't right click the desktop to configure switchable graphics.

For the past 2 weeks I have been having issues with my display. It started with being unable to launch GTA V after a recent update - it crashes on launch, and after much troubleshooting I can only assume it is because of an issue with my GPU.

Not only am I unable to run that particular game, but I am also experiencing vertical green lines and screen flickering while watching Netflix. It is very quick, but often.

I have tried all the basic things like updating graphics drivers, but I don't really know what to do beyond that.

This is my GPU: https://us.msi.com/Graphics-card/R9-285-GAMING-2G

I have included screenshots from GPU-Z but I don't know what any of that means. :D

**Requesting moderator to move to PC gaming forum if possible! Thank you.**

Good evening TechSupport members,
Long time reader, first time posting! I am experiencing difficulties running an old DirectX6 16bit game of mine in Windows XP Pro (SP3 - fully updated). Amusingly, the game is called 'Space Bunnies Must Die!' (don't ask...)

The issue I'm having is when the game loads in, I'm able to see the HUD and what not, however - the 3D game itself is full of artifacts, strange colors, stretching polygons and to top it off - the screen flickers very rapidly. After doing a bit of research, I've come to the conclusion that it must be a videocard related issue as turning off 3D Hardware in the games options (usually) allows me to play the game fine, albeit in software mode and as a result, looks bad.

I have tried a bunch of things. Disabling and unplugging my secondary monitor, trying compatability modes from Windows 95 to Windows 2000, forcing Vsync off/on, reinstalled DirectX off the games disk, changing resolutions, setting my desktop to 16Bit color, booting XP with 1 core, disabling visual themes, forcing 640x480 and probably more that I can't think of at the moment. The game is just being very stubborn and refuses to play with hardware acceleration. I'm able to run DirectX7 and later games with no issue whatsoever.

My hardware is as follows:
Intel i5 750 CPU
nVidia GeForce GTX 570
12GB RAM
Windows XP Professional

I thought maybe it was the game running too ... Read more

Hi, Guys and Gals.
I just got my MSI GTX1080 Sea Hawx SLI and NVIDIA's SLI Bridge installed but somehow two of the three monitors flicker in-game.

Overall performance is really great, but on two screens the monitor flickers like an analog TV or so...

I have read somewhere that flickering on 1080 might happen, but only on desktop, watching videos or websurfing, but this problem is only in-game. But it happens every time.

The problem only occurs on TWO of the three displays used for NVIDIA Surround AND first I thought it was the card, but both monitors are on different cards in the SLI rig. So the screen that does not flickers also shares the card with a monitor that flickers.

Two are connected using DVI-D cable and one is connected with a DVI-D cable and a Display Port adapter to make it fit because the 1080s only has one DVI-D port each.

Playing in windowed mode (even borderless) makes the flickering go away, but as soon as I switch back to fullscreen it flickers again.

Please help here if you can or point me to the right direction. I appreciate that very much.

I posted the same problem to the NVIDIA Forum, but no luck so far.... https://forums.geforce.com/default/t...in-game-only-/

Answer:GTX1080 SLI Surround Flickering In-Game Only

Hallo Malte und willkommen in der Windows Zehn forum

I did a quick Google search and found a thread on an overclocking forum where someone had the same issue, and the solution provided was to check if the bridge was inserted correctly, he said that his SLI bridge was a little bit loose and that is why he had flickering.

Have you checked this?

And how about the NVIDIA drivers, do you have the latest ones available?

You can check them here: NVIDIA Drivers

And also remember that there will be a big amount of games out there that don't have that great support for SLI!

Cheers, Boris

Hello there. So I bought my laptop several months ago, a G500, i3 3110m 2.4GHz, 4gb RAM and AMD HD 8570m. The problem is that when I try to play some games like South Park the Stick of Truth or Heroes of the Storm, I get some sort of flickering of the image, like the first image that appears stays still and the rest of the game runs around it changing between these too, if you know what I mean. I'm running on Win 8.1 now and when I had Win 7 I had the same problem but I found out that it was because of the latest driver, once I installed the driver from the lenovo website I didn't have this problem. On 8.1, I tried with the latest driver and with the one from the lenovo website but no luck so far, should I try some different versions or what do you guys think? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Lenovo G500 flickering image in-game

You can try installing the driver for windows 8 using "compatibility" settings. Also - install AMD Catalyst drivers for Windows 8.1

Hi,

I got a T440s (Intel 4400) and use Windows 8.1 64x.

All drivers are up to date.

My problem: Minecraft graphics are "flickering". This looks like graphic artefacts from previous shown frames or simply parts missing..

I basically tried everything and completely out of idea. I treid different version of minecraft on different partitions with different java version with different memory setting and tried the last 2 different intel driver versions.

All in vain. This flickering is difficult to catch with a screenshot but i managed to catch below screenshot, where you can see the box for the achievments being partially missing (its only a splitsecond).

I am absolutely lost and appreciate all hints/help.

Hi guys, wasn't sure if I should post this here or in hardware. I had a virus over Memorial Day weekend that messed up my registry, and it took me several hours to fix it. Since then I've been having problems logging into Everquest. At first it was telling me "Reset Device Failed ()".

I did a little research and read that my video card may be shot, so I purchased a GEForce 6200. Installed it and was still having problems with the most recent NVidia drivers, so reinstalled the CD drivers. I was able to log into EQ for about 5 minutes, then moved to a different room and the game crashed. Ever sicne then I haven't been able to get back.

Now what it's doing is when trying to log on (sometimes before character select, sometimes when loading into the world) the monitor looks like it's resetting itself every 2 seconds or so. I get the message "D-sub" in the corner, the screen goes completely black, and again looks like it's flickering on and off, but the green power button on the monitor stays on the whole time. It creates and endless loop and I have to do a manual computer turn off.

The video card is working with every program except EQ. Checked dxdiag/device manager and they say everything is working properly.

I have: The GEForce card, 640MB ram (I know...it's an old comp), running in 1024x960 on both EQ and Desktop. I've tried 60hz refresh, 75 hz refresh and neither help. I'm at a loss for what to do, so any he... Read more

recently, my monitor has been flickering and then the whole computer freezes and/or the monitor just shuts off [with a soundloop of the last sound in game]

before i could play HL2, but now i cant even play Counter-Strike without this problem occuring. i used to run CS at 85 fps before but now i'm forced to run it at 60 fps because of the flickering/freezing. It still freezes at 60 fps sometimes. I tried to play Lineage II. . .same result.

i suspect that this may be overheating or my outdated hardware, but i'm not sure what to upgrade

according to EVEREST Home Edition:
OS: Win2000 Pro
CPU: Intel Pentium 4, 2.4 GHz
VGA: GeForce FX 5200 [128 MB, AGP 8x]
Memory: 512 MB [two 256MB DDR SDRAM]

Temperatures
Motherboard: 38 C (100 F)
CPU: 48 C (118 F) it goes as high as 122F in games
Aux: 31 C (88 F)

is there any other info i need to provide ? what about the PSU ? [and how would i find this info?]

i only have 1 fan and it's used to cool the CPU, the video card does not have a fan, it only has a heat sink that gets really really hot. . .i touched it and could not keep my finger there for more than 2 seconds literally. I tried opening the case with a fan blowing into it. this seems to help a bit but my computer ends up freezing anyways.

i have already updated the drivers for my video card. i haven't tried to overclock anything.

Any suggestions to what i should buy ? i got alot of christmas money =) Thanks so much

Answer:Flickering monitor, Freezing Computer, and Lock ups in game

First off you should probably place another fan in the case, or another one on the graphics card. Your other temperatures appear to be normal. I was having issues like this awhile back. Try updating your graphics card driver, but use forceware. Here is the link for your card- http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.98.html . Hope this helps!

My CPU seems to heat up ALOT. . .according to the sensor, my CPU normally runs at 48 C (118 F) and it gets up to 122+ F when playing games. . .

so i was wondering what should my CPU temperature be at ?

I just bought this laptop for about 1 month, the laptop work fine before. But after...I don't know maybe after the windows update, the driver make the screen flickering and some dots appear on the screen, sometimes the screen lagging and went black. I'm pretty sure it's because of the driver because if I disable it, everything is fine, but that is just a temporary fix, every games is unplayable when I disable the driver. I tried to reinstall it using driver from Intel, Windows, Lenovo but none of them work(newest)

Hi
My comp has a seperate game controller port (not with the sound card) and when i plug game controllers in the computer does not seem to recongise that i has plugged it in, in the control pannel it still says not connected and no box pops up to say new hardware found.
I have opened it up and checked to make sure the game port socket has defo been fitted to the game port on the motherboard and it has.
has anyone got any ideas why this is happening could it be anything other than a faulty cable from the motherboard to the back of my pc.
Also could it be a conflict between my gfx card? it a geforce 5700 lx 256mb.
thanks soo much for your help
Sam.

I have that card on one of my PC's and I recall using a game controller through that port, it didnt recognize it at first either if I rememeber, but it was a plug and play controller and after a reboot it just worked, but it could be that the game port isnt supported on your motherboard, or jsut try updating your video card drivers

Hello,My laptop is lagging and hungs up when i plugged in my laptop charger(power adapter) while playing a game.I am playing watch dogs game in my laptop. At first it was running without any lags. After some days it started to give lags when i plugged in the laptop charger.I googled for that and found that by updating bios i can solve my problem. And so i did. after that i played the game with medium settings without lags. But again now it is giving me the same trouble. When i plugged in the power adapter it lags and hungs up.What to do ?

Answer:While playing game, laptop lags and hungs up when plugged in ...

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. Thank you for the information you have provided with what you have done with the results. Very helpful. I have looked into your HP Pavilion 15-p077tx Notebook PC and issues with performance  and slow. Here is a document to help with performance being slow.  Some of the Live tiles on the desktop can cause issues with the speeds being slow as they are constantly updating. Right clicking on them and turning them off seems to help. Make sure all the updates have been done. Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system if any need updating. Hope this helps. Thanks.

Hi
My Laptop is 13 months old Dell I7 5558, i was facing this screen flicker issue previously ,where i got my Laptop Screen replaced by you ,but now I'm facing the same issue .
Previously before replacing i used to have just few flicker, now flicker rate got increased even more & Screen Goes black which is really annoying.
Even at the logo Screen I 'm seeing Green & pink lines
Sometimes nothing appears on the screen just  flicker of Green & pink lines & black Screen After that.Where i should  to remove my battery  & place it ,to turn on my laptop in this case.
Problem is not related to software, if that was the case flicker should not be at dell logo screen.
But FYI my Graphic Card Drivers are already up to date.
I Guess the problem is at the hinges or with the monitor or maybe related to mother board itself.
when my laptop screen is less than 90 degree i can see few flicker, when it 90 degrees or more than that ,continuous flicker & black screen later as like monitor looses power nothing .

Any Other Information Required let me know.

Hi, I bought a newer revision of the Y50 that supposedly had all the errors fixed with it acc to my chats with Customer support (it left the factory at the end of June this year) I saw some flickering lines a couple days ago but it disappeared and assumed it was just something random. Today i opened it and red and black lines randomly flickered horizontally across the screen, and then the whole screen was shaded red. I am trying to figure out what the heck this could be, and as I am now overseas on deployment I am doubly worried the international limited warranty will not cover this and I will have to pay through the nose to fix this. Has anyone ever seen anything like this and knows how i can fix it ? is it a simple case of a connector thats not seated properly? Thanks in advance!

Hi Eclipze926,

Welcome to the Forums

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with screen flickering in your Lenovo Y50-70 laptop.

As you have mentioned that the display flickers, does this issue persist when only on battery or when plugged in.

Connect an external monitor and check if there are any lines or the display flickering. Also try to reinstall the display driver and check for the issue.

Hi there,

I developed a problem with my desktop pc yesterday. I was gaming and the screen began to flicker then the game crashed - citing "rendering device lost". I tried to re-load this again and the same thing happened again, this time with a BSOD. I tried a different game and the same thing occured, took slightly longer though. Given it was late I went to bed.

Today on loading up the sign in screen was flickering lots, I entered my password and was met by a black screen. The computer continued to make fan noises as if it was working, but nothing on my screen. This happened again. On restaring my computer the crash report read

"Blue Screen.

BCP3 00000000000009ED

I've looked at the bug dump, but I was silly and did a system restore before this, so there's no bug dump.

The computer starts and runs fine in safe mode and without the graphics card in.

Since I've done a system restore
Cleaned everything again ( was pretty dust free to start)
Uninstalled and re-installed the graphics card drivers
Re-seated RAM and GPU
Done a memory diagnostic on my RAM
None of these have worked.
I've taken the graphics card out and it runs fine with the onboard GPU.

Hello everyone,Recently, I got a Lenovo yoga 14(with Nvidia Geforce 940m and intel(R) HD Graphics 5500) on windows 10. I have one problem with it which is the screen flickers on and off if I have software such as store, bing news, google chrome and microsoft word open on maximised screen. I've tried turning down the resolution, turning of panel self-refresh and updating the video drivers, but it didn't work. Also I've noticed that when the screen is flickering the mouse moves back to the centre of the screen. Instead of pushing the maximised button, if I drag the borders of the software window and make it full screen, it doesn't flicker at all. Some advice would be much appreaciated, Roger

My laptop Dell Inspiron 15R 5520(Core i3 2370M 6GB ram win 7 64bit)  worked perfectly from Nov2012-April2016.

Now the screen started flickering and jumping since a few days and there's a white dotted line that appears along the top of the screen that starts the minute there is any kind of display.
How do I figure out if the inverter on the screen is faulty or if it's the screen cable or the whole screen itself?
To satisfy my curiosity I opened up my laptop to find that the lcd cable was badly crushed under the screen hinge (definitely , a design/manufacturing issue! Will dell take responsibility?), and each time the screen was shut/open there was substantial pressure on the cable was what I noticed.
Unfortunately I'm out of warranty and I don't know what to do.
Please advise on fixing this issue.

Dear Lenovo community, In September 2014 I bought a Z50-70, and a few months ago after I installed Windows 10 several problems started.  First of all, whenever I start the laptop, or after I move it, half of screen (left side) stops working (shows lines and switches colours while I switch tabs), but it sometimes gets fixed after I push right on the place where the cable is connected with the screen (1-2 cm left of the middle of the screen; bottom part). Secondly, the screen sometimes flickers and at times it starts to go fully white until I move it. I don't know whether the problem is the screen, the cable, or there's also some software problem (the updated to Windows 10 maybe?). Could anyone please help me with this issue? Thanks very much.

I have a problem with my laptop the screen starts flickering black. I still can see everything normally this stops when I open the screen to the _maximum angle_ or when I apply pressure above the power bar on the screen round hinge in the middle of it I used to _carry my laptop sometimes from it's screen_ sometimes so I want to know what's causing the problem.

I ruled out the VGA because the laptop works normally if I connect another screen so it's either from the screen backlight, LCD, or some cables or connectors or the inverter does anyone have a clue?

plz help and reply soon

Answer:Satellite L505 - Screen flickering but another screen works

Hi danysafi,

You?re right: The problem is caused from the screen backlight, LCD or LCD cable but who should we check this without diagnostic tools?

With other words in this case you need help from an authorized service provider because they have special diagnostic tools to check the hardware. In my opinion that?s the easiest and fastest way and if your notebook is under warranty, the repair is for free.

Last but not least you can find a list of all ASPs on official Toshiba website. :)

Hi, I love the Yoga 2 Pro. But i have fews issues with it. Especially when used on battery. My screen flicker from time to time. The onyl fix i found was to close the lid to put the laptop to sleep and the reopen it. Not very convinient. An other issue I encounter is the screen blanking after a while when the computer is not in use. It's like the computer blank the screen to save battery power, but when you want to reuse it again, it won't start again. THe only fix is to hard reset the computer (eg : press 10s the power button) I am running a fresh clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro with all the Lenovo Drivers up to date (exept the BIOS one) If you could help me fix my issues. I think it's software related.Do you think i should put the BIOS update ? Does anybody ever try with a clean windows 8.1 install ? Thanks a lot,Romain

I reboot in safe mode fine. I then go back to the normal mode & the problem begins all over again. What does this mean? Thx much.

Answer:Flickering screen to blue screen warnings

A Stop OX8E BSOD, is usually caused by hardware failure. Either it is faulty RAM or a bad PSU. Download Memtestand make a Boot disc out of that and boot off of the boot disc you created and run the tests. Test each RAM stick individually, by taking one out if you have more then one. Alos go into the Bios and check the voltages, temps and fan speeds and post here.

Hello! I bought a Lenovo Y50-70 about 7 months ago. After I have owned the computer for about 30 days my screen started to flicker. Was thinking it would go over and tried to update drivers etc. After another 30 days the screen goes black and won?t work at all. I tried to connect an external monitor and that works with no problem what so ever no flickering or anything. I was thinking then that it must be a problem with the cable to the monitor or the monitor itself on the computer. As I still have warranty on the computer so I deseeded to turn it on to the store where I bought it, and they did send it to Lenovo reparation center. Anyhow they told me it would cost 200 euro to fix the problem. And here is why. They need to replace the motherboard as its damage and that?s why the monitor won?t work and as I said it works fine on another external monitor. Apparently the damage is in one of the USB ports. I have a really hard time trying to figure out how one USB port (that works perfectly fine, and nothing wrong with it) can cause a monitor to go black. I would like some help with this and get an explanation how this works?Best regards

Answer:Screen flickering then dead (black screen) Y50-70

Hi Jonas_e84  ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Same here , strange to hear a USB port damage would affect the display , not unless that you use the usb port  as alternate output display. But this should not affect internal screen.
Conditions for systemboard repair for the display issue with external working ok if the port for the LCD cable is bad.

Have you tried calling in directly Lenovo tech support .  Swedish 0775 757411 time: 9:00 - 18:00 Monday - Friday.
Check here for your warranty (parts and labor coverage)   , accidental damage (cracks , damge from falls etc)  is not included on basic warranty, depending on what you have enrolled the pc with.

You can give them a try to see your option, tech support would like to check the pc with you for isolation of the problem.

You may giving a call for information purpose on warranty coverage and services that can be provided.

Hope this provided you needed information to proceed .

Basically, I open my laptop, the screen on it does not work (with or without extended monitor plugged in), and won't turn on at all. When I go to my device display settings, my extended monitor works but when I click the project button to switch screens, my 'PC Screen Only' is being shown as my extended monitor. I can't figure out what happened to my laptop screen. am looking at getting it replaced, would it be worth it, and does it boil down to a screen/panel only issue? Thanks

Question: Screen Flickering

Hello, from last 2 weeks ago. I have bought a new tower with Windows 8.1 on it. I have already owned the monitor before I got the tower.
But, I am having problems with the Screen Flickering. It only flicks like a shave (transparent grey bar shave), it does it every minute.. but not all the time.

My Graphics Card is successfully up-to-date, I have to do a check and update all the other devices to see if this problem was solved. But, it didn't.

My Graphics Card is: AMD Radeon HD 7310 Graphics

Answer:Screen Flickering

Are you using the correct refresh rate for your monitor in Control Panel? Check in Control panel // Appearance and Personalization // Adjust screen resolution > Advanced Settings > Monitor Tab > Screen Refresh Rate (I'm pretty sure your monitor uses 60 Hz, if it's already on that make it higher).

I have a HP Pavilion g6 model g6-2254ca

Over the last few months I had small amounts of flicker when laptop was moved...giving it a tap or opening/closing screen more resolves it at least for awhile...it has increasingly gotten worst and worst...Right off the bat to me that means a ribbon in the screen or a lose cord is the culprit. I'm not a total useless computer user but at the same time not 100% confident to take it all apart and deal with it myself...although if I had to I could.

So I took it in to a local small computer repair place. He said he took a LCD screen from another computer which was known to be working fine and put it on mine and the flickering continued so he said the screen isn't the issue it has to be the Hard Drive. Which if it is ...its not worth fixing as this is a 600 hundred dollar computer and is 2 years old.

Even being 2 years old its never had issues with lagging, slow loading, program issues, its reliable and not glitchy at all never has been. I did recently buy a brand new asus transformer laptop a few months ago and I hate the damn thing. It's slow, glitchy really not user friendly. It seems as if they make newer computers cheaper and cheaper...I really don't want to embark on that journey of trying to get a mid grade computer that actually works. I want to try to fix my HP since I do enjoy actually using it.

That said I just don't trust that its a Hard Drive issue, and I took video and posted it on youtube I will p... Read more

Question: Screen Flickering

I have a Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS graphics card, Asus VW222 Monitor, Intel Core Duo 2 2.67GHz with 2 gig of Ram. Running Win 7

Every Since I loaded Win 7 and installed the graphic's card the monitor appears to not function correctly. Boots up in blue and black lines and yellow tint and if I'm lucky to make it through to the password screen and actually into the desktop, it is also yellow tint here and flicking flat out to the point where I can hardly see what is going on to turn it back off again.

I have trying swapping the graphic card over with another exact same model as mine, one my bother had and still have the same problem. I have checked to try? Any ideas!! Seems bizzar the monitor would flash now only when I have changed from Vista to Win 7, so I'm no overly convinced it would be the monitor as the problem?

Answer:screen flickering

more info is needed

LCD/TFT don't 'flicker' per say, however, the older CRT monitors can and do flicker, especially if you have the wrong screen resolution.

What is the operating system ?

What monitor ?

What is the graphics card ? ... may not be monitor at all

Are all drivers up to date ?

Desktop or laptop system ?

Make model of system ?

Bank details, nat ins num, address and a current bill to prove you are who you say your not.

Well, OK, maybe not the last one, but the other info will help us better to help you.

Question: screen flickering

I call it flickering or jumping around. When I am typing online or offline the screen keeps jumping around. It is doing it now. I hit the escape key and it stops but starts when I start typing again. Someone told me to open Task Manager and Processes tab and hit esc key when it jumps. That does not help. Sometimes it jumps once then again it will jump
25 times up and down. It dont always return to where I am typing. Be it an email, document, or whatever. I have a Laptop, Compaq Presario with windows xp. Just acts like it don't like what I am typing. Any ideas. I am not too savvy on repairing things. So don't get too technical. thanks for any solutions.

Answer:screen flickering

This is highly unlikely to be a networking issue, you need to deal with this on an O/S level.

I'll move this to the XP forum.

If it is not under warranty....re-seat the Video Card and blow the slot out before putting it back....

Also re-seat the monitor cables and check for any damage.

Re-install the video card drivers and chack for any updates

Question: Flickering screen

Hi.Having just installed a new hard drive and XP Pro, I was notified of no less than 81 updates from microsoft, mainly XP security fixes. While installing these I tried to open another programme, clicking on Start menu. But after a few seconds the screen disappears. probably not explaining this very well; OK, I click the mouse on Start but almost before I can go to the next stage the start menu disappears. And as I write this the updates have finished installing and the problem has stopped. Is this normal? This is my first time using XP Pro, I always had XP Home. Are there any differences I should watch for that might make my pc behave any differently??h

Well you know what the cause is!You may need more RAM in your pc as well.

Hello, Computer Hope!I've went through several topics looking for my problems, but I can't seem to find a solution. So, please stay with me as I try to explain my situation(s), there are several, unfortunately. First of all, a few months back (lets say around June) I got a blue screen, which resulted in me having to restart the computer. This happened twice. (Sorry, I don't have caps of it or of anything for that matter.)After the blue screens came the flickering- usually when switching users. Basically the screen is either, a) black and you can see an enlarged mouse flickering, or b) the monitor has these crazy grey lines and every thing is enlarged and flickering. This has happened quite a few times, and about forty minutes ago. I'm not able to do anything and I have to once again, restart. Also, sometimes the mouse will move on it's own accord (or just stick for several seconds), this gets annoying especially while trying to ink line-art. Help for that as well? And, last one, I swear. I'm using FireFox 3.0.3. When I click on the icon, it takes it at least a minute for the browser to pop up, and after it does my exhaust fan works overtime- like right now, it's extremely loud. Maybe I'm using a bad add-on?This what I'm using-Windows XP, Media center editionVersion 2002Service Pack 2-Anything else and I don't know where to find it.And I've been without any AntiVirus products for about a year now.Any suggestions on what I mi... Question: Flickering Screen?

Hi, I seem to be having trouble with my HP Pavilion g6. I'm not entirely sure which Pavilion g6 it is as I'm not able to determine it using the laptop itself. My screen has been flickering on and off. It doesn't have any lines or distorted color lines or whatsoever. It just flicks back on and off. I cannot open any program/apps (right now I'm using a different laptop), and every time I do open a program it still flickers. I can't troubleshoot the problem, the screen flickering is in the way of every thing I do. Also I'm sorry, but I can't figure out the operating system. I'm just guessing it's Windows 8.Edit: I'm also unable to find the restart button, the only one thing close to it that I could do is turn it off. Please help. Thank you.

Question: Flickering Screen

I have an 2000XP computer.  Today the screen started flickering.  What could be the reason for this.  The screen also appears to be dimmer than usual.

Answer:Flickering Screen

First thing to try - restart.Secondly, check your monitor refresh rate:1.   Right-click the desktop, click Properties, and then click Settings.2.   Click Advanced, and then click Monitor.3.   On the Refresh Frequency list, click the appropriate refresh rate (at least 60MHz), click Apply, and then click OK to test the new refresh rate.4.   If the test screen is visible, click Yes on the Monitor Settings dialog box. If the test screen is not visible, contact your hardware manufacturer to inquire about the availability of a fix for this issue.5.   Click OK, and then click OK to close Display Properties.

I checked on a post about IE 9.0 and learned how to back out 9.0. This completely fixed the flickering problem so I think it definately was 9.0. I am staying with 8.0.

Question: flickering screen

Hello,

since a few days I'm suffering from a flickering screen.
I've already ruled out faulty monitor and cables.
before this I had the problem that the main screen went black for a second every once in a while, I don't know if this is related to the current problem.
the flickering only appears on the main screen (if I set the other screen to be the main one, the flickering continues there)
usually it stops after a few seconds, but since today it just stays until I restart my pc
I'm using an R9 270X Royal Queen. (not OC)
And using Windows 7 Home Premium
(the sound is not coming from the screen, but from holding the cam too close to my headset)

Answer:flickering screen

If you switch around the cables where the monitors are plugged in at on the card, does the same display act up, or does the same port from the GPU act up?

Have you updated your drivers and CCC from AMD's website? Is the card OC'd at all?

Answer:My screen keeps on flickering!

You can try downloading the latest VGA drivers for your model and see if that resolves the issue. To do this, you can follow the steps below:1. Go to http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers2. Type Aspire E1-470 in the box below "Search by Product Model" and click "Search"3. Click on your model number from the list that comes up.4. Once the details about your model are displayed, select your current operating system appropriately from the drop-down menu besides "Operating System".5. Now, go to "Drivers" tab and download appropriate" VGA" drivers depending on whether you are using "Intel" or "NVIDIA" card. I am not sure if the following link will help but still, if the issue persists, you may try using the troubleshooting steps mentioned in this link:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-performance/screen-intermittently-dims-a...

My screen started flicker when booting on about a week ago, and now it takes a few minutes of pressing the monitor button on and off before it will stay on, starting with a flickering screen, then it stabalizes to a clear picture and seems fine. Is there any way of determining whether it is the video or graphics card before I take it in?

Answer:Flickering screen

Yes.Hook up the monitor to another working machine...If it does the same thing ...it's the monitor...If not it's the vid card.

My laptop screen keeps flickering and ive rebooted it and tried all the troubleshooting steps and even sent it off to get repaired and after all of this the screen is still flickering, it is still useable but very annoying as whatever i do on it the top and bottom of the screen keeps flickering. Very annoyed with the lenovo support as this shouldnt be happening and i thought it would of been fixed the first time round. I paid a lot of money for my laptop and its still brand new so i dont expect to see a small this like this happening this  early on .

Answer:screen flickering

Hi, Ally ?

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

There are a few possibilities, but it might indicate a hardware malfunction. It could be the video card (easy to test by trying a different video card) or the monitor itself. Have you tried different refresh rates (70 Hz or faster is best)?

Update us how it goes.

Hi, My screen is flickering on and off and it is driving me nuts. This started a couple of months ago, but I haven't used my computer much (it had *so many* problems). However I can't opt out of using it now. The screen will go black and then flicker on. It seems to happen most when the charger is not connected. I know you are not supposed to leave the charger connected for long periods, but at the moment it seems to be doing better when it is plugged in. I think it is flickering because it thinks it needs to go to sleep? Or maybe the wires connecting to the screen are not good. This computer has never been good at detecting tablet vs. laptop mode, and rotating. Thus I haven't used it much for that. Recently I also tried to use it in the other mode, maybe that confused it.  Thanks. I got this in Nov 2014, apparently, and it is out of warranty.

Question: Screen flickering

My computer has possibly been infected as it has started behaving strangely. Whenever I type on the keyboard, switch open windows, or open program, the screen flickers as if snapshots of the screen are being taken. At least, that is what it feels like. I have tried Sophos, Malwarebytes, AGV, Spybot, Kaspersky, and a few other programs, but the problem persists. THere are no unusual processes running in the task manager (at least nothing that I can detect as unusual).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Question: screen flickering

Well just recently my video card gave out and found out the batteries, I'm guessing that's what they were, on the video card were starting to burn out so I'm using onboard. Before I took the video card out the screen was flickering and the video drivers started failing and what not... With the on board I'm getting just flickering on and off of my t.v. which I'm using as a monitor. Any ideas? I'm connected using a vga cable and I've never had this problem before.

Answer:screen flickering

Did you uninstall the video card drivers and make sure that not only were the onboard ones installed, but also updated?

Goto the manufacturers website, find the download page for your motherboard model and download the vga drivers from there.
