Windows XP in 2017....

Question: Windows XP in 2017....

I have an old compaq laptop that uses windows xp. When I turned it on and connected to the internet it didn't go to any websites. Can I still use this computer? If so, How do I get online? Also, How do I upgrade to a newer version of windows?

Preferred Solution: Windows XP in 2017....

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone, i have quite a few questions so i'll post separate threads rather than pollute one thread. I'm wanting to get something a lot better than windows defender. Comcast is my ISP so i can get NIS for free. As most of you are aware of Norton hasn't been doing a great job these days. There has been multiple vulnerabilities in its products that actually decreases the security of windows. Still NIS still does a pretty good job of scoring pretty well in the various test in terms of protection. I was thinking on going with either bitdefender or KIS but of course i would have to pay for those. If you were me would opt for NIS because its still pretty dang good and worlds better than bit defender or would you opt for one of the better products like KIS or bitdefender?

Answer:Kaspersky IS 2017 vs Norton IS 2017 vs Bitdefender IS 2017

bitdefender free+ CF and SAP i think will be good

Good evening everyone. Thanks for your access to this thread. I hope you to read and answer for this question.

I want to ask everyone that which software should I use for keeping security of my PC.

Now I am using Bitdefender Total Security 2017 as main anti-malware soft on my main desktop PC.
And also I was using F-secure SAFE as anti-malware soft on my PC until last week.

Yesterday, I heard that new Avast Antivirus 2017 was released, and new Avast Free is including behaviour scanning system.

I am having trouble deciding which software should I use as anti-malware soft.
Please tell me about your recommend.

I think that...

?Protection features
Better : Bitdefender 2017 > F-secure SAFE > Avast Free 2017

?Performance and speed
Lighter : Avast Free 2017 > F-secure SAFE > Bitdefender 2017

?the risk of false positive trouble
Bigger risk : F-secure SAFE > Avast Free 2017 > Bitdefender 2017

?SSL (HTTPS) Scanning is enable without fake SSL certificate to browser
Unnecessary fake certificate : Avast Free, F-secure
Need fake certificate : Bitdefender Total

F-secure SAFE is the very nice solution as protection from malwares and keeping speedy PC. But it is having big risk of false positive ratings; especially the website blocking is not good with many many false positive ratings. And, sometimes slow down my PC.

Bitdefender Total Security 2017 is the best solution as protection from malwares. This software is providing users very nice anti-malware solu... Read more

Answer:Avast Free 2017 vs F-secure SAFE vs Bitdefender Total Security 2017

Quick question, why Bitdefender Total Protection? Do you need ALL those additional features, or looking for an Antivirus only, because there are Bitdefender Antivirus Plus and Free versions.

What about other protection software like Emsisoft Anti-Malware/Internet Security or ESET Nod32 Antivirus/Internet Security?

Hello, Guys!
I'm new on this forum but I Really Really like this good Forum
So I had Emsisoft for couple of months now
But Recently I've switched over to Avast Premier Beacuse I've never used Avast before So I wanted to try It out
But now I'm without any AV As I do not know what to Install Avast or Emsisoft!
I have licences for both So thats not the problem
Thanks In Advance And btw This forum really nice.

Answer:Avast Premier 2017 Vs Emsisoft Internet Security 2017

Both have excellent protection functions, but certainly they are two different security solutions.
I think the choice of one or the other one is really subjective, I've used Emsisoft for many years and it is my first choice

A couple of years ago I moved myself and some of the fam from Apple Everything to Windows 10. Yesterday however, I bought an new 2017 iPad. I really love the Surface devices, so why?
LEAVING THE PLATFORM BECAUSE OF WINDOWS MOBILE
First, because Microsoft are no longer supporting the phones that are in our house, we are being forced from that platform. So rather than living and breathing completely and happily inside the Microsoft ecosystem, I am now forced to diversify and go elsewhere. This really is a big deal, and changes my thinking from the unthinkable (leaving the MS ecosystem) to the possible (shifting back towards Apple). That being the case, why should I then buy a Microsoft Surface tablet (I was planning to buying a new Surface Pro M3) when I an now FORCED to be open to Apple and Android?
EASE OF MOVING PLATFORMS
Second, Microsoft have made my leap back to Apple so easy, because they have done what Apple and Google have refused to do, which is to make their software available on the others' platforms. Thus the transition to iPad is easy. For example, Word and PowerPoint are effectively free (via my 365 account that I will not be renewing at full cost next time; I will use the academic version which costs me almost nothing). Outlook on iPad is a great app (better than on PC platform). Lots of other apps that Microsoft that I use are also really nice on iPad (e.g. Wunderlist) and made the transition really simple and clean.

Third, the Facebook app on iPad is ... Read more

Answer:I did the unthinkable and chose a 2017 iPad over a 2017 Surface Pro M3

Microsoft are no longer supporting the phones that are in our house, we are being forced from that platform
Can't make sense of that. Presumably you have really old windows phones that no longer get updates?
And what does that have to do with what tablet you use? Windows has timeline, cloud clipboard and a whole host of platform agnostic features coming this fall, so Windows will play nice with android or ios (better than those OSes play with any other).
You don't even need your tablet, desktop and phone to be the same platform. You just need the same services, which for MSFT, exist on every platform.

Hello,
On my Windows 10 pro PC, I'm running (BDTS 2017 + Voodoo Shield Pro + Malwarebytes 3), and this combo is very smooth for me, but when I saw the results of MT tests here : AV Test - MalwareTips - Bitdefender Report - March 2017 and here : AV Test - MalwareTips - Kaspersky Report - March 2017, I think that these tests demonstrated that Kaspersky did a better job then Bitdefender
So my question is to know if it is a good idea to replace BD by KIS on my config ?
Thanks
NB: I have paid keys for both

Gentlemen -again I am having a problem with Windows 7 and now the newly installed Office 2017. I seem to have corrupted files somewhere on the system . I used Advanced System Care Ultimate to find the errors and correct them. If finds errors but does not seem to get rid of them even after acknowledging them. When I restart the computer I get the search for systems page as windows won't start properly and it corrects some problems then it actually starts the second time. I have had BSOD related to dump files? and now the whole system is so slow I can take walks while it starts a program - any program, outlook, excel, whatever. So I need someone with more knowledge than I to help me fix this mess. So I go to you.
I have Malwarebytes and ASCU installed on this computer.
Let me know what files are needed to decipher the problem and get the computer back to normal.
Thanks

Hi, my office upgraded our one computer to Windows 10, now we are unable to login using our regular password. This is a local account- no Microsoft Account has ever been on there. I've tried three reps from ms and after a half hour all have told me the only option is to reset windows and lose all the files. I read online that this problem happen two years ago, and that Microsoft would make a fix for this problem. However it's 2017 and this is still an issue. I had an IT guy try to hack into the admin account and he was unable to do so after several attempts. What else can we do?

Windows Defender Application Guard for Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge with Windows Defender Application Guard mode enabled on the Edge browser will protect enterprises from advanced attacks that can infiltrate your network and devices via the Internet, creating a safer, worry-free browsing experience for customers.
ARSTECHNICA - Application Guard extends Virtualization Based Security to protect against browser flaws.

Microsoft has announced that the next major update to Windows 10 will run its Edge browser in a lightweight virtual machine. Running the update in a virtual machine will make exploiting the browser and attacking the operating system or compromising user data more challenging.

[...]

Microsoft recognizes that this feature would be desirable on consumer machines, too, and not just for Edge.

This may be acceptable for a locked-down enterprise environment, but it isn't a good fit for consumers. Virtualization also likely comes at some performance cost, although Microsoft is not saying just what that performance cost is right now.

Nonetheless, this use of virtualization to harden a system is an exciting move.

Application Guard will become available later this year in Insider builds of Windows, hitting a stable version some time in 2017.

Answer:Windows Defender Application Guard, Windows 10 Edge 2017

In theory it sounds good but let's wait to actually see the feature. Makes no sense to make appcontainer and then decide to do a Vm so soon and why would they put it only on Edge? Micro vm usually involves higher resource usage but who knows MS has the money to maybe figure it out. It will be good for the industry.

Good evening everyone! Thank you for your access to here and reading my post.
Tonight, I want to ask you that how much the Avast Free Antivirus reaches some solid anti-malware software, which are the paid version.

Now I am using F-secure SAFE as Trial license on desktop PC, which is one of the mine.
It seems to nice for protect PC and F-secure SAFE is light despite it is one of the very strong scanning system as consumers.

But now, I am worrying about false blocking by browsing protection of F-secure SAFE.
In usually, f-secure is not making something to bad situation for me, I am feeling it.
But the Browsing protection feature of F-secure SAFE blocks websites too many times.
The most of sites, which were blocked by F-secure are obviously safe. Of cause, they are judged safe sites by other major antimalware soft (e.g. Avast, Bitdefender Total Security).

So I want to compare them; Avast Free Antivirus 2017 and F-secure SAFE 2017(or Internet Security 2017).
I want to ask you that which is the more strong software under the below situation...

1.
OS is Windows10 Home and updated with latest security patch.
2.
Main browser is the latest of Mozilla Firefox with ublock origin.
3.
If I use Avast Free 2017, I will configure some setting (e.g. File Shield, Mail Shield, Web Shield, and Behavior Shield) to aggressive security level. For example, I will configure by referring to this page avast! Optimal Protection settings by RejZoR

My Windows Office 2016 subscription expires this month.
I need to renew but I was wondering when 2017 is going to be released.
I searched online but I found a lot of stuff on 2016, but nothing for 2017.
It probably won't be released this month but I thought I would check, because I don't want to buy it this week and have a new version come out next week.

I don't think MSFT does this for Office like they do for Windows 10, but if we purchase an Office product and there are changes during the year, do they issue updates? I don't recall any.
If they issue 2017 after I buy the 2016 version does it get updated when they release the new version? I don't think they do, but I thought I would ask.

Many thanks!

Answer:Windows Office 2016/2017

Office is not updated to a new version every year - for Windows was 2010, then 2013 then 2016.

If you get a subscription now you will get 2016 (plus latest updates) and it will automatically update to latest version whenever it is released (assuming your subscription is still valid).

Answer:HP Setup Manager -- still useful in 2017, on Windows 10?

Guess I just never used it on my Windows 7 laptop-never even saw it. I am a jump in and explore on my own type. I looked and it isn't even on this Windows 10 laptop I am using so it probably isn't even used anymore by HP on their machines. Most of the features it lists is stuff you can do on your own. For example, if you are setting up a printer run the software/driver disc that comes with it- it walks you through it. Stuff like "protect your computer" probably was details about the trial Anti-virus app that comes on most laptops. As far as backup- you can find that in Control Panel. If the program is listed in Programs and Features in Control Panel you should be able to Uninstall it there.Or another possible way here:http://www.laptopmag.com/articles/uninstall-programs-windows-10

Hi, @Toronto Cat

If it just popped up today, on both systems, and was not a problem before, I would be inclined to just let it go till tomorrow and see if it clears up. Sounds like you didn't do anything to cause it....no software installs/uninstalls or the like. Reboot both systems and check. Could be just a temporary glitch somewhere...MS or your ISP or something else. Reboot your router, too.

If it keeps occurring, we can look into it further.

If you had avast before, you are used to it, and this does not slow down your PC, go for it. Defender in W10 is quite good, but Avast well tweaked (you have lot of posts in MalwareTips) will offer you a very good protection.

HI
It seems like almost every time I turn off my laptop (router/new HD since 12/16/ about 5 years old Toshiba) there are windows updates that require downloading and installing during laptop shutting off.
It also seems that there are always 7 updates to install and that they are the same 7 updates at least since 5/17 until today.
Looking at the updates log, reveals that it is not entirely correct, although there appear to be many updates that in fact are the same one, which my laptop cannot seem to be able to install it. This is (for example) one of those updates:
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (Kb3080149). I can provide the rest of the updates list/log in order to check the reason for the downloading/installment failure of those updates
But I would appreciate an answer, something that will enable me to fix the problem and avoid from leaving my computer for a whole week again, at the importer's premises.
Please explain the possible reason for the updating failure and the solution for the problems or how to resolve it asap.
Thank you
Oree.

We have a mixed Windows 7 x64 and Windows XP x86 environment. Win 7 have 4GB RAM and are SP1. Win XP have 2GB RAM and SP3.
They share a folder "Scans" for scanned documents sent from network multifunction printers

On these PCs run SAP B1 Client, Outlook 2007, Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 RU6.
Win 7 PCs, randomly, show event 2017. The exact message is "The server was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool because the server reached the configured limit for nonpaged pool allocations.". The multifunction printers are not able
to send scanned documents on the shares.

The computer was using 110-130 MB of nonpaged memory at the time of the event. The driver with higher usage of non paged memory pool is the intel storage driver (iastore.sys) with 30MB (I use Poolmon). The Non Paged Pool limit showed by Process Explorer is
about 3GB.
Reading Mark Russinovich?s Pushing the Limits of Windows: Paged and Nonpaged Pool it appears the Windows memory manager statically set nonpaged limit to 75% of RAM (3GB in fact). We assume the configured limit referred to in event 2017 is set by the LanmanServer.
So which limit am I reaching on these clients? Allocations or what else? And how can I see the allocation limit and which process/driver is reaching that limit?
Repeating the above scenario only using an WindowsXP SP3 (32 bits) computer with 2GB RAM , with same applications installed on them as on Win 7 clients, does not cause event 2017 or any ... Read more

My solution so far - after virus scan, looking for other setting and software problems- was to uninstal the latest update (KB4015438) - seems to have solved the problem at least for now.
Hope that's useful and love to hear other solutions.

I started having issues with the ultranav middle button. It works when i start the computer but after a few minutes of scrolling up and down it does not work anymore.  The only way to have it function again is to either restart (which will again only work for a few minutes) or use a bluetooth mouse to uncheck and check the mouse settings for trackpoint which that too will work for a few minutes only. I've updated the bios and updated the driver. Still not stable. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

According to the Microsoft Update Catalog site, there appears to be a total of 12 security updates for March 2017 for Windows Vista and Internet Explorer 9.
I'll try to confirm that as soon as I set up my test machine and do a "checking for updates".

Be aware that April 2017 will be the LAST security updates released by Microsoft for Windows Vista.
It will then go "extinct" like Windows XP did almost 3 years ago.

Hi, I upgraded my windows to the latest version 1703 os build 15063.14 and after that windows can't boot normally. I've tried so many options to let it work but none worked. It always end up in a black screen. Please any best solution.???????

Answer:Windows 10 latest version 2017 upgrade

You can download an ISO file here: http://forums.windowscentral.com/e?l...token=BNsvxcZV which can be used to create a bootable disk or memory stick. For an automated version download the Windows 10 Media Creation tool here: http://forums.windowscentral.com/e?l...token=MWQSbC77 which you can use to create installation media.
Obviously, you'll need to make the installation media on a computer that boots.

3rd February 2017 UPDATE: End of servicing for Windows 10, version 1507 will now occur in May.On November 29th, Windows 10 v1607 was declared the Current Branch for Business, also known as the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

End of servicing for Windows 10, version 1507With the availability of Windows 10 v1607, the grace period for Windows 10 RTM v1507 will begin. That means, after May 2017, Windows 10 v1507 will no longer be serviced, as only the two most Current Branch for Business (CBB) versions are actively serviced (ie, v1607 and v1511)

What this means for you? Basically, Windows 10 users on v1507 are advised to upgrade to Anniversary Update (v1607) before May 2017.

This post is not meant to put your hopes up or anything but I was just speculating about whether snapchat will finally make it to windows after BUILD 2017. I wanted to know your opinions regarding this.
The reason I'm posting about this is that I recently went back to W10M from android and the only thing bothering me is Snapchat (after all these years) still not showing any interest in making a UWP app for windows.

An incorrect device driver was released for Windows 10, on March 8, 2017, that affected a small group of users with connected phones or portable devices. After installation, these devices are not detected properly by Windows 10, but are affected in no other way.

Hello,
My name is Daniel and I am having issues with the HOMEGROUP ever since the big update that came at the end of spring for windows 10.

First, my system is as follows:
there are 4 computers:
3 windows 10, 64 bits computers Home Edition, hardwired to the modem directly.
1 laptop windows 10 Home edition, connected wirelessly.

The problem that I have is as follows:
I have been using "Homegroup" for the past 3 years or so, and it always worked very well.
But ever since the "Creator's update" released either in April or may 2017, the Homegroup feature is broken.

My main computer which was the one who started the "Homegroup" got updated first, and after that, no other computer sees the homegroup.

However, I need to explain the following:
My main computer, who started the homegroup, still sees the "old homegroup" as active, AKA Ghost homegroup.
I have tried to delete it by following the steps here

Source: Future Windows 10 phones could run full-fledged PC programs

It appears that the HP Elite x3?s highlight feature?the ability to run PC software on a phone?may actually find its way into Windows 10 Mobile?s core at some point in the future.

Frequent Windows sleuth WalkingCat dredged up hints of Windows 10's ability to emulate x86 (read: PC) software on ARM (read: mobile) processors, via a ?CHPE? designation in code.

Mary Jo Foley, a Windows reporter with impeccable sources, followed up on the report today. Foley says ?CHPE? indeed refers to Microsoft plans to introduce x86 emulation to Windows 10 in a ?Redstone 3? update in fall 2017. The ?C? stands for ?Cobalt,? Microsoft?s code name for x86 emulation, according to her sources; ?HP? literally stands for the company HP; and ?E? remains unclear, but potentially stands for ?emulation.?

So why does this matter? Because native x86 software support would dramatically improve the utility of Continuum.

This began happening the morning after the March 2017 Microsoft Security Update was installed. The dots just stopped rotating. I powered off by pressing and holding down the power button. Upon restarting, the system said that it had not shutdown properly and it would attempt to automatically fix itself. The reboot failed saying there was an uncorrectable error and suggested Recovery.I booted the system into Safe Mode where I ran Norton Power Eraser which found no threats. Then I ran chkdsk on the C: drive which returned a few tracks to the available pool but found no other errors. The reboot hung exactly as before. From the Start Menu I selected F2 and ran extensive HP system diagnostics which found no problems.Booting into Safe Mode I attempted to use Recovery Manager to restore the system to the last previous Restore Point created just before the March 2017 Microsoft Security Update installation. Recovery Manager said that that Restore Point was invalid and erased it from the list. I fell back to next Restore Point created a few days earlier. Hi,
I work in IT in a University and last week I prepped and set up a number of W10 computers for Student Admin DYI use. Everything up to date, tested, functioning smoothly. Today, (first day of classes and I go in to just make sure) and the computers have been bricked by an update. Endless 'Installation failed, press any key to restart' and on it goes. Safe mode doesn't work. Win10 install Disc Repair doesn't work. Nothing works. This is totally unacceptable, particularly when advice received goes along the lines of "If you are stuck in a reboot cycle please go to the control panel and .....". We have resigned ourselves to the inevitability of a complete rebuild and a huge delay/cost associated with that. I will point out that no cloning/dsim or other reproduction techniques were used. This was a clean individual install of W10Ent to several machines. We have applied for extra manpower solely to deal with the expected W10 problems but I'm getting the feeling that the unexpected ones are going to require even more. This is not a suitable OS for mission critical situations (and this is not the first major stoppage, we have 2 surface pro 4's on their way back to MS for un****ing, and I have a list of tickets with similiar inquiries/faults). I use to think I was a Pro in IT but W10 has reduced me to damn near tears. Just saying.

Answer:Windows 10 update: endless failed installation reboot Feb 2017

Hi, I sympathise with your plight- fortunately not one I've experienced.

Others may have better ideas.. but noting you've not had a reply...

a. Can you invoke system restore by booting from a Win 10 install disk, then click 'Repair your computer' and navigate through Troubleshooting to System Restore?

b. Failing that, and this is significantly less than ideal, can you restore the backup copy of the registry?
Boot from e.g. a Win 10 install disk or bootable disk such as Kyhi's at the top of the Software and Apps section of this forum

The Windows 10 backup copy of the registry is under:
C:\Windows\System32\config\RegBack
Boot up the PC using WinPE or Installation Disk into command prompt and copy all files under RegBack to C:\Windows\System32\config

(This will probably leave inconsistencies between some files and the registry, and I can't advise how you might reconcile those simply).

I'm wondering whether you have ever considered the routine use of disk imaging so you have a quick way of recovering?
Also whether you have considered any of the various was of restricting Windows updates so that you can test them before general deployment?

Windows update log files
You are probably aware of this, which seems to make accessing them in this instance remarkably challenging.
You'd have to extract them and process them on another machine, unless perhaps you can do that having booted using Kyhi's boot disk.

Windows Update logs are now generated using ETW ... Read more

Hi, IE11 won't launch any more on my laptop- seemed to happen after the big 9/13 update so I'm guessing it's related. When I try to launch from anywhere (taskbar, clicking on a link etc), the spinning wheel appears for a moment, that's it. I've trawled the web and tried pretty much every suggested fix I could find. It seems something similar has happened to others after upgrading to 10, however mine was pre-installed and I haven't seen anyone else with exactly the same complaint. I don't want to do a re-install if I can help it...also I found I had system restore turned off unfortunately. Has this happened to anyone else?

I don't really want to change browsers. As mentioned above I have tried all the fixes I could find but would welcome any suggestions. Thanks.

hi
I'm attempting to manually install critical-only updates to a Win 8.1 box.

I found April 2017 windows8.1-kb4015550-x64_516ecbc130cb85fe3ae74f04c9f2cc791b669012, which i believe contains critical updates only. Great.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4015547/windows-8-1-windows-server-2012-r2-update-kb4015547

But, it's prerequisite is April 2014 KB2919355, which is over 700 MB.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2919355/windows-rt-8.1,-windows-8.1,-and-windows-server-2012-r2-update-april-2014

I suspect that, at that size, it's not a critical-only update, but instead includes all updates up to that point (even non-critical stuff not required for the 2017 update). Correct?

If so, how can i identify the absolute minimum prerequisites needed for the April 2017 update? -thx

After install
March 2017 Preview of Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 8.1(KB4012219), Windows Defender update to version 4.10.209, but I find a small bug in Registry Setting.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"WindowsDefender"=hex(2):22,00,25,00,50,00,72,00,6f,00,67,00,72,00,61,00,6d,00,\

  00

In Registry, it look like this

This value is useless, because thers is no MSASCuiL.exe in Windows Defender 4.10.209 for Windows 8.1,

In Windows 10 v1607 this is taskbar notification icon launcher for Windows Defender

So I think Microsoft's Developers might batter delete this value for Windows 8.1(also RT 8.1), or add this EXE file for Windows 8.1(also RT 8.1)

August 2017. I have a client using Live Mail under Win7. She sends her store newsletter to 850 opt-in customers. In the past months, there have been many complaints about coupons and news not received. Resends are only partially successful. Our ISP said "no more than 50 recipients" - so the list is now split into 18 groups of 49 max. The problem has gotten worse.

Today, I figured this out:

Windows Live Mail still has a bug in the group facility. (There have been some posts about this, including https://forums.techguy.org/threads/...s-in-windows-live-mail-and-windows-7.1076362/ )
- The "category" (group) list name will have the correct number of members next to it, and all the members will show in the displayed list. However, it sometimes happens that not all the members will receive an email. If you click the "+" plus sign next to the group name in the To, CC, or BCC of a message, it will show the actual list it is planning to send to. If that's undersized, check the group by this method:
- In Contacts, left click on the group you want to check so that the list of group members is displayed. Then right click on it and choose Edit. If names are missing from the box at the bottom, it needs repair. Adding the names and clicking Save won't actually save. Here's how to really repair the list:
- In Contacts, left click on the group you want to repair so that the list of group members is displayed. Then right click on it and choose Crea... Read more

Microsoft confirms no more Windows 10 feature updates in 2016; two coming in 2017

Microsoft published a TechNet blog post on Tuesday regarding what's new in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. In the article, the company confirmed that it has two feature updates planned for 2017, but no more for this year.

Based on feedback from organizations moving to Windows 10, this will be our last feature update for 2016, with two additional feature updates expected in 2017.

The news is right in line with current rumors. Tuesday's Anniversary Update would be the one feature update for this year, and Redstone 2 - the codename for the next major Windows 10 update - isn't slated to arrive until April 2017. Redstone 3 is rumored as well, but without any release timing, so with today's news, it's presumably late 2017.

It's also in line with what Microsoft has already said. Back in May, the firm said that it would be pushing two feature updates for Windows 10 every year.

The obvious question that you're probably asking is, if Microsoft said that it would release two updates per year, why would the company only release one this year? Well, when Microsoft says the word 'year', it could mean a calendar year, or it could mean a fiscal year, which would be over at the end of June. With that in mind, the firm has released two major updates for Windows 10 every year, and is on pace to do so, even with Redstone 2 coming in April.

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB
Memory: 8GB (1x) DDR4

First problem, I press Windows' TaskView, it is laggy, Next one is, I watch YouTube while I am coding. A YouTube video is intermittent freeze. I found that System.exe took high CPU usage while it was freezing. I tried to re-install Windows, Intel HID Event Filter Driver, Intel HD Graphics, nVIDIA Geforce Graphics Driver, System BIOS. I can not fix these problems.
What should I do?
Thank you all for you help in solving this issue!

Hi,
I recently purchased an Inspiron 15 7567 gaming laptop from Dell and have encountered a few issues.
Computer Specs:
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit
CPU: Intel Core i7 7700HQ Kabylake
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB
Memory: 8GB (1x) DDR4
Storage: 1TB HDD + 128 GB SSD
Problem:
First, I press Windows' TaskView and it is laggy. Another one, I am watching YouTube while I am coding. A YouTube video is intermittent freezing. I found that System.exe was high CPU usage when it was freezing. I have tried to re-install Windows, BIOS update, Intel HID Event Filter Driver, NVIDIA driver, Intel Graphic Driver, and it is not fixed.
What should I do?
Thank you all for you help in solving this issue!

Despite numerous attempts, QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2017 will NOT install on my 64 bit system.  I need to install it so that I'm running the same accounting program as my accountant.  He is no longer going to support Sage 50 (formerly Peachtree Accounting).
Every accountant I have spoken to either has quit supporting Sage 50 or is planning to by the end of 2017.
I'm told by some that my problem is probably some corruption in my registry OR some corruption in Windows 7 Pro SP-1.  I'm told that trying to find the problem in the registry is like searching for a needle in a haystack. These folks
say the best "fix" is to upgrade to Windows 10 Home or Professional.  BUT, as best as I can figure out, any upgrade to Windows 10 Home or Pro will require a clean install.  Do not want to do that.  I'm also told a clean install is
required to fix any registry problems anyway.
SO... is there any way I can run a repair on my laptop's registry to see if that will fix my problem?  If that fails, is there any way to reinstall Windows 7 Pro SP-1 over my current installation that would (a) correct any corrupt files in the program
and (b) not erase my data or programs?  Hoping someone can point me in the right direction to a solution.     LEE KEITH

Today, at Build 2017, we announced the next wave of Windows 10 innovations built to empower the creator in all of us ? the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. Available later this year, the Fall Creators Update delivers new experiences for more than 500 million Windows 10 devices: A new design system for the next wave of creativity across devices; experiences that move with you across Windows, iOS, and Android; iTunes, Spotify, SAP Digital Boardroom are coming to the Windows Store; new tools that make Windows home for all developers; and the world?s first Windows Mixed Reality motion controllers ? no markers required.

The spirit of creativity lives in each of us. So often our lives are changed by creating something out of nothing, from a big idea, a dream, or just a simple thought.

Like the incredible developers here at Build, I experienced my own personal creativity in software development. I remember what it was like to wait as my code compiled, then seeing it come to life on the screen for the first time. There is an amazing feeling of creativity that comes from software development. I love seeing that spark of creativity in our Windows developer community.

The Windows 10 Creators Update began rolling out last month to more than 500 million Windows 10 devices around the world. It?s exciting to see more than 300 million people using Windows 10 every day for more than 3.5 hours a day on average. With all of this engagement, we?re most proud that Windows 10 c... Read more

Prior to Feb 23, 2017, there was sound through internal speakers and also when I plug in external speakers.
Starting Feb 23, 2017, there is no sound with Dell Optiplex 780 desktop computer (small form factor) with Windows 10
ie no system sounds
ie when I use vlc media player, no sound
When I use Windows Media Player, it says "encountered a problem while playing the file."
When I use vlc player, it opens the audio file, advances the time elapsed, but the speakers are silent
I updated Windows.
I ran Windows diagnostics.
Windows diagnostics detected conflict with sound card enhancements, so I disabled them, then rebooted.
I uninstalled the only recent Windows update, which was Feb. 21 windows update of Adobe Flash player.  I re-booted.
I ran AVG anti-virus and Malwarebytes.
I am trying to run on dell.com the online diagnosis, but it is stuck.
dell.com/support/home/ca/en/cabsdt1/product-support/product/optiplex-780/diagnose

I downloaded Dell System Detect and installed it.  It is running, and appears in the system tray.
The I selected a sound card test.
However, the process is stuck at step 2. Install System Detect

Just threw this article together, I want all the brain's in this forum to chip in and if there is anything missing from this article (at all!) let me know ASAP, in this thread.

Previously we wrote a long post about Best Laptops for Hackers, which included a run-down on the best laptops for programming and penetration testing (pen-testing). This article turned out to be very popular even though it wasn't exactly intended to be that, now we are proud to finally publish the long-requested article of 'Best Laptops for Video Game System Emulation'.

The idea of this post is to give an accurate summary of which laptops are suited for, or adept at emulating various consoles and their games, and which ones also can easily perform these duties, at the lowest possible cost.

Now obviously, the better hardware you have the better your system will be at emulating other hardware/software. That doesn't necessarily mean a more expensive laptop. Where the demands of hacking and pen-testing demand vital and significant internal storage, the prerequisites for game emulation are generally just a good graphics processor, and good RAM/CPU.

Your laptop should also be in good working order and not muddled with high-risk pirated downloads and large bits of video. To emulate efficiently, you should also have as little processes and programs running in order for the emulator to run smoothly.

These are all common sense tips but...
If you are lo... Read more

I am from National Insruments, we have a software product called Lookout, when we install the update 2017-06 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4022719), there is a problem for window to pop up.
In our software, there is a control panel(panel 1), in panel 1,there is a button(button1) which is connected to another control panel(panel2).
If we click button1, panel can pop up. Before we install the update, the normal action is panel can pop up on the top layer, which can been seen in the following picture.
But after we install the ipdate, the phenomenon is strange, when clicking button2, panel 2 can pop up, but under panel1, we have to click on the button for another time, then panel 2 can show up in the front, this phenomenon is not expected.
I wonder if there are some changes causing this reaction. For example, modifying register key of fixed value of windows parameters , anyone has any ideas or recommendations?

Hello to everyone. I have been using Windows Defender as my antivirus software for some time but i recently decided to switch into a better one so i installed Kaspersky Internet Security 2017. Even though the installation was successful and Kaspersky works fine with no issues, i have a strange problem. It seems that Windows Defender was not disabled "correctly". I dont know how else to describe it. I was still having its icon in the taskbar, with a red indication saying "in danger" (or at least a similar one.i dont have an english version of windows so i m just translating what it was indicating). In order to get rid of it, i had to open the task manager and manually disable the windows defender notification from processes and startup tab. It doesnt seem to be running though because when i checked in Services, it was not activated and also in Windows Defender section in settings it says its disabled. Even though it is not running, Windows Update still detects virus definitions for Windows Defender and unsucessfully tries to install them every time it checks for updates. Has anyone faced this strange issue? How do i stop it?
I have Windows 10 Pro x64 (with the Anniversary update)

Dell XPS27 - 7760 (2017) Windows Hello "can't turn on camera" error
camera passed diagnostics and took my photo so the camera itself was working until then.  Does anyone have an XPS27 7760 working with Windows Hello?  What drivers are you using?
I see there is a realtek web cam program actually installed, but the drivers are from a windows update.  Does that suggest anything to anyone?  Should I try to run that program and see if it fixes things?  There are events that say "device needs further installation" but that seems to be a fairly common error on a lot of usb devices so that's no help.
Thanks!

To those of you who are still running Windows Vista, it has followed in the footsteps of Windows XP and will be going "extinct" today.

After today, there will be no further security updates from Microsoft for it.

Pretty much all modern browsers have dropped support for it.

It's time for you to move to Windows 7 or Windows 10.
