YOGA 710-15ikb NOISY Ubuntu

Question: YOGA 710-15ikb NOISY Ubuntu

Lenovo support, thank you for bios solution for windows it's really helpful, but you forgot one thing. That thing is Linux users!! Instalation Linux for that laptop is like a developers quiz, you should become UNIX developer to start FREE Ubuntu on that device. After installation new issues - drivers. What`s going on, Lenovo? I can't use my fingerprint on it, cause no drivers!!!! And the most painfull for me: NOIZE from laptop, it`s like a reactive rocket, on battery it work just 2-3 hours(at the same time linux use less CPU and RAM). Hopeful you'll provide any solution for us (Linux users). https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByHLDA4zXQ5eQXZEQVdfUWEwbDQBest regards,Bogdan

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, Driven by the good performance of some Lenovo Thinkpads from friends, I just bought an Ideapad 510-15IKB and everything is just great, except for the fun noise! It is completely insane, I can hear all the time, even after booting without anything running. After searching a lot on the web it seems to me that this is quite usual on this Lenovo machines and the company is not answering at all to the customers request. Is it that hard to release a bios update that changes the behavior of the fan or does it mean that this design has a cooling problems and it needs to have the fan constantly running?I know that it is not fair to argue that the temperature of the cpu is around 35C and the fan is running, because if the fan was not running the temperature would be higher for sure, but would it be higher enough to justify that the fan is always running at a earable pace? I guess that we, the customers, just want an answer from Lenovo, either saying that this is like it is and we need to live with that or, the preferable one, a BIOS update... In my case, I will wait a couple more days to see if any solution comes up and if not, I will be returning the laptop and buy something that is not Lenovo. ThanksPedro

Hi, I would like to ask everyone with this model in particular. Mine is less than a year old. I noticed at times that the CPU Fan would "whine-up" and would make this high-pitch noise like the CPU is on full-load. I have read that it could be a sign of a failing CPU-Fan or other issues with the motherboard. I checked the temperatures, everything are within normal parameters, and even ran a diagnostic test using the native Lenovo Vantage App, but it didn't find anything unusual.  Note: It doesn't constantly makes noise, just at random, sometimes even during tasks like openning a browser or just browsing through my files.

I am a very frustrated and angry customer at the moment as i keep running into Road Block and unacceptable answers.  This issue is enough to cause me to never buy another Lenovo laptop or any laptop at Best Buy!I bought my computer in July and in September i noticed a key had popped off-  the "< ," key next to the M key.  I have used the key board only when i was setting up-  now at my office and at customers i set it in downward dog mode ;-) and use a blue tooth key board.    So it is not from use that it broke.   I took the laptop into BEST BUY and was told that the key was missing a metal part on the back so they could not fix it onsite-  i would have to send it in and be without my laptop for a week to 10 days - unacceptable -  this was a month or more ago. I searched on the LENOVO website and could not find a way to purchase a single or the entire set of Keys!  I am self employed as a software consultant.   My life is pretty busy and i finally decided today to bite the bullet and ask for a call from Lenovo support.  Again i am told the only way to fix this is to send my laptop in for a repair.  I asked to just be able to buy a KEY - i am told that well they do not sell individual keys - they would replace the entire keyboard!  So sell me the keyboard and or send me one an i will take into best buy to have them replace it while i wait.  They cannot do that.   I live... As described in the title, I was using a live Ubuntu USB (I already have Ubuntu installed) to use GParted. Unfortunately, I unintentionally unplugged the USB. Surprisingly, it didn't immediately crash or shut down. I tried to plug it in again and Shut Down, but that did nothing. (the taskbar disappeared for a sec and then came back again and nothing happened) Then, I tried to reboot by pressing the button on my laptop (Lenovo Ideapad 510-15IKB) which worked... somewhat. After a black screen for a couple of seconds, many SqushFS errors popped up and now I can't do anything. The power up/reboot/shut down button doesn't do anything and the only thing I can do is write.. commands? Help, please! Here is a picture of the errors: http://imgur.com/a/CPYTKI also got some other stuff after a while: http://imgur.com/a/2sLKz EDIT: I fixed it by waiting for the battery to deplete and then just booting onto the already installed Ubuntu OS.

Question: Yoga 720-15ikb

Hello, i am thinking of getting the laptop above, but I have a few concerns. 1) is the wireless card in it already an intel 8265ac card? Is not, can it be upgraded with a FRU 01AX704? I'm not sure if it's compatible with the bios whitelist on this machine and my googling skills haven't come back with much! 2) what make is the SSD in this machine? Is it PCIE-NVME based? It only says 256gb. Can hard drives be replaced for any model or does it have to be in the whitelist like wireless cards? I'm hoping it's a Samsung pro 960 256gb! 3) I've also heard it's hard to install windows from scratch on these machines due to the controller for the hard drive being set to RAID rather than AHCI/NVME, which means windows doesn't detect it upon installation. I've heard there's a bios out there now which allows AHCI to be selected from the bios so it makes it straight forward enough (a lot of linux users wanted this!) but Lenovo have said it may cause issues with performance if installing windows through this way? Is this just Lenovo covering their backs or is this a genuine concern? any clarification on the bottom point would be great. thanks!

Having issues with constant ghost touches on touchscreen. Have tried checking for updates, uninstalling/reinstalling driver. Ended up disabling driver. Tried re-enabling after a bunch of updates and there are so many ghost touches that it took over a minute to click the "disable" button and make it stop. Have seen previous models have had luck with firmware updates. Anything like that available for the 720?

I started having a problem with my screen when I tried to install a program called Monosnap. At first my computer screen was completely white and I had a hard time seeing anything. I uninstalled the program and it got a little better. Virus scans said I didn't catch anything. I reset to my previous Windows back up point and it got a little better. It still had like a white film over the screen with like a halo of pure color around the edges. Then I reinstalled the display driver and that fixed the problem with the permanent white film over everything, except now it randomly flickers completely white, with verticle lines. I've included a picture.

I have Sketchup Pro 2017 installed on my Yoga 720 laptop at work.  On paper it seems like this computer should be more powerful than the machine its replacing, but its performance in Sketchup is really slow.  It makes the program really difficult to use because its freezing and lagging so much.  I've run a quick diagnostic on the machine and it passed.  I also have run Sketchup with the task manager window open and it seems to be using about 35-45% of the memory while its running.  Is it a graphics card issue?  My collegue ran one of the same files I've been working on and it worked fine and her machine is in theory less powerful.  She is using Windows 7 however.  Could it be an operating system issue?  Any other ideas?

So, I too am reporting the ghost touch issue with my Lenovo laptop.  This is on the Yoga 710-15IKB model.  Same exact issue that others are reporting on the 700, 710, and 900 models.  I have uninstalled/reinstalled ALL drivers found for this model, updated drivers via Microsoft, have the BIOS update, made countless changes to the touchpad to see if it is the issue.  But, NONE of those things have worked.  The issue appears to happen randomly after waking up from sleep.  Usually within a few minutes after wake.  I can do NOTHING to stop the issue once it starts other than to hard reset the power button, then wait a few seconds and restart.  Once I've done that, the issue is resolved until... whenever it randomly wants to do it again... usually the next day. Lenovo... there has to be a solution to this!  You resolved it with a firmware upgrade on the older 700 model.  Can you work through the issue and get us a solution?  And, please, don't say to send the unit in for repair.  The issue clearly is a firmware issue.

I just bought this machine and the display color is rather yucky and washed out. I did play with color calibration in the Windows 10 settings, and was able to match my existing monitor by turning red and green way down and then cranking up the saturation in Intel UHD 630 settings. The problem is, the screen now gives me headache because blue is turned up relative to red and green. So now I'm looking to see if I have the right color profile to begin with. The color profile associated with the monitor was "sRGB display profile with display hardware configuration set to.." Is this the right profile for this laptop? I did search and I couldn't find the color profile for this laptop. Microsoft site says I need to get the monitor driver, not the display/graphics driver, but I don't find that either. Does anybody know where I can find the downloadable color profile for this model?

Using both the physical and on screen keyboard I can't send this desired input. Driver reinstalls did nothing. The hardware is fine. I can even get (alt+fn+down) to work. This isn't a global hotkey issue as best I can tell either. Some reported issues included the Intel Graphics Control Panel intercepting these inputs, so I disabled its hotkey manager and the problem persists.

Hello! In the past few days, my yoga laptop has been having this issue where if I unplug my headphones once, they won't work again till I reinstall my driver and restart my laptop.  However, once they are unplugged again I'm back at square one.  I've tried with three different set of headphones (different two earbuds and one normal over the ear type) and I have the same issue.I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Realtek High Definition Audio driver a lot of times in these past few days.  I've even tried installing it via redownloading the file from the lenovo support page and nothing seems to work.  Once the headphones are unplugged, only my speakers work.  It is like the laptop kind of recognizes that the headphones are plugged in, but will not play sound through them.I've also noticed that when I start playing music (while the music is still picking up my headphones) the music will start really quiet and then suddenly get VERY loud at random despite the volume number it is on.  Once it gets louder, it stays that way until the headphones are unplugged.  Then, I hear nothing once replugging them in.I'm not sure what to do and I hope I can get some help. Thanks!

Answer:Yoga 510-15IKB screen turning white

Hi, MP87 ?

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

If you get the white screen during POST but the display is fine on an external display then the cause if most likely the LVDS cable. Try to reseat or change this part and observe.

On my brand new yoga 710, from time to time, the screen with start to do small shifts vertically.  Windows is up to date, went through and did intel specific driver scan, which came up with lenovo having a custom display driver set. Has anyone else experienced something similar to this.... this is my first touchscreen system I have ever dealt with, so I'm not sure how these custom drivers function.  It is about one pixel shift, which is not much, but enough to make me want to throw this thing out the window 4 days after buying.

Hello, last thursday I got my brand new Lenovo laptop Yoga 710-15IKB. Same thing happens Keyboard lights up for a second or two then the fans just keep running and the screen stays completely black. This is extremely frustrating since this is a brand new computer and I desperately need it for studying and work. Screen black, computer starts and runs I can hear the fans keyboard lights up at first but screen is completely black. I would appreciate a quick response Lenovo, I had so high hopes for my new laptop. Best regards, Elisabet.

Currently I'm playing music on Google Play music which plays fine until I'm about to click on another page or go to the home of google play for example and it stutters for a few seconds. Also not sure if this is related, when I use my bluetooth speaker, audio stutters really bad, worse than when using internal speakers. Possibly two different problems but for now I really only care about the internal speakers stuttering as I rarely use my bluetooth speakers on my pc. Any hardware can be specified.

Hi there,  My very new Lenovo Yoga 710 (15" IKB) laptop/two-in-one has been fantastic so far except in one regard. Whenever I play a game, the fan gets quite loud and the temperature shoots up. I'm not one hundred percent sure if this happened in the first few days but I have come to notice it far more recently. When playing a pretty standard game, such as World of Warcraft, the temp will shoot up to somewhere around 65 degrees celsius (sometimes up to 70) with the bottom getting quite hot, and the fans will become quite loud. Even a very low requirement game, like FIFA 15 (which is obviously 2 years old now), can cause the temp to reach about 60 degrees and the fans to get loud, and when dowloading a driver from Nvidia I noticed that the temperature had again risen, this time to 52 degrees with the fans spinning loudly again. I had earlier had a display issue that I fixed by downloading diplay drivers from Lenovo's website. I'm not sure if there's any driver I could download to rectify this issue (I already updated BIOS from the download on Lenovo's website)?

Last week I spilled drop of coffee+milk on my trackpad and it stopped working properly (I know you think I must have actually dropped a gallon but I asked my friend to come over and open my laptop with me and after we opened it, he couldn't see anything -- he was skeptical that I had dropped any liquid whatsoever, so, yeah, it was a drop of milk+coffee on the wrong place..). The pointer was behaving erraticatly and my friend and I, not tech savvy but rational ppl, figured that it must have short-circuited. So I went to ebay and order a replacemente part. The trackpad came with the keyboard + palmrest. The trackpad seemed to be a perfect match. The palmrest was a little bit different. My laptop has the fingerprint reader but the one I ordered didn't have. I thought it wouldn't make any difference since I only wanted the trackpad. The replacement arrived. I swapped the trackpad, made sure all cables were connected (there's actually only one but you got the point), closed my laptop, turned it on and... the trackpad was still not working.  Does anyone have any idea of what I should do next? I took a closer look on the letters and numbers I found on the trackpad and compared the original with the replacement and there's one or two numbers/letters that are different but they are otherwise identical. I can't make sense of why it didn't work and can't think of what to do next. I'd really appreciate some feedback. Thanks,

I have come to my last resort, which feels like I have wasted money on this Yoga - It has taken me almost a year, I still don't have a clean event log and the only thing I have minimized is the locking up of the machine when the nvidea goes haywire.  Simple answer - on edge and explorer I force fed it the crappy Intel chip.  Now it's 'rev up' is limited.   I'm running Win10Pro 64bit. up to date on everything.  This situation has been since the first day I used this thing.  I can't trust it enough to use for work, so here it sits. just something to do nothing much with.   Is there a real fix for this that makes better sense than having a GPU that isn't used?

Hi, I have this problem, which I also had on a 710-15ISK before I replaced mine with this model due to cracked screen. Intermittently, while "computering", the keyboard will stop working as expected.Only a variety of keys will work, like some mode has been activated by an accidental key press.Like I said, this happened on my previous 710 as well. It's frustrating because I'm learning programming, and the issue doesn't resolve until I sleep the laptop and unsleep it, which makes me believe it isn't some key combination I'm hitting, but rather maybe a jam of the keyboard. The same keys stop working each time, and same for the keys that remain working. If I can if it happens again, I will write down each key working/not working, but until then, does anyone have some insight on this?

I don't want to always have to restart my laptop and doing all the steps above. Any advice?

Two days ago, my internet was being slow, and I had the adapter reset as per usual through the WiFi troubleshooter. The adapter for the first time caused a BSOD when doing this. So I thought "Fine, its a one time thing", I didn't get the chance to get the error message but the cause involved the adapter, I know that much. When my laptop restarted, I noticed a nice little "x" on the speaker tray icon. Scrolling over it, it told me that "No Audio Output Device is Installed." Nothing I did would fix it, including the basic solutions across the internet such as uninstalling the drivers, etc. While looking at the drivers, not all of them were missing, only maybe one or two, definitely one in the Sound, video and Game Controllers area with the name (MEDIA) in it (that much I remember, I believe it was from NVIDIA too), along with one that was put into the "Other Drivers" area, or whatever it was called, by Intel but with a yellow exclamation mark on it and it related to audio. I got the problem to be fixed by doing a system restore back to the 10th, before some updates occurred.Last night, my keyboard was malfunctioning (not allowing me to backspace, only allowing me to type in certain areas, not allowing me to use the letter "C", and telling me to backspace by hitting "Alt + LeftArrow." (And this was occurring in multiple browsers, not just one)I did another system restore and the audio problem reappeared, but this laptop is quite new, I've ran out of restore points to go back to.... I have looked through all the documentation from Lenovo and on these forums and have not been able to determine which version of the HDMI spec (1.4 or 2.0) the micro-HDMI port supports. Although this laptop has a 4K display, I wouldn't necessarily expect that the micro HDMI port to be 2.0 but it would make since and would be a smart thing to do.

Recently I found out that my lenovo yoga 710-15ikb laptop doesnt support digitizer active pen technology. Its hidden in online talks and also frustration when you buy a $70 wacom bamboo ink pen to find that it doesnt work. I understand that most active pens wont work with my computer because the screen (and maybe motherboard) dont have a digitizer. However, I have been looking online and some retailers appear to be selling digitizer lcd screens for my specific model. My question is whether or not these retailers are selling aftermarket screens and if they are will the digitizer work once one is installed? Also, I have a lot of experience doing repair work, mainly with digital cameras and building my desktop, so the task of replacing my laptops screen is not a problem Im just unsure as to whether or not buying a new digitizer lcd screen will work. I dont want to spend money that I dont have to if it turns out that I am just being misled.

Thanks!

Let me know if you need more clarification I'll be around for a while.

Hi everyone. I have tried searching here and on Google for a solution and can?t find anything for Yoga 710-15IKB owners. The only relevant thread I could find was from this user who is describing essentially the same questions, but nobody came up with a solution. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-710-Touchpad-Settings-Area-settings/t... I am trying to activate two touchpad features on my new Yoga 710-15IKB. Two finger scrolling. Two finger right-click tap.Increase speed of touchpad. (The mouse curser is painfully slow, even on the hightest pointer speed setting). However, I can?t seem to find any place to change these settings?I have tried the following: Navigating the touchpad settings via taskbar, looking at each tab (including the ELAN tab). There is no place to make touchpad gesture changes.Going into Windows 10 control panel settings for the touchpad. The only adjustment I can make is ?touchpad sensitivity?.Updating the ELAN driver in Windows 10 via ELAN tab > properties. This does nothing.Downloading and installing various ELAN/Synaptics touchpad drivers from Lenovo.com, none of them activating any ?gesture? settings that I can find. This one specifically did not even work? http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds118370 My questions: Does the Yoga 710-15IKB even support touchpad gestures? Are there any owners with this model who have success with activating gestures? Thanks for your... Answer:Lenovo Yoga 710-15IKB Touchpad Settings? Two-finger gestures?

Ended up taking the laptop back to Best Buy. The Geek Squad rep and I compared the model on the shelf. While the driver information matched, my model did not recognize the trackpad as being standalone (it was acting as a mouse in a PS/2 port). We concluded my computer had a faulty trackpad and got an exchange. All is well!

After i upgraded to BIOS 2XCN30WW(V2.05) dated 2017/06/21 i started to experience lags and temporary freezes (for 20/30 seconds and it would recover) while using windows 10 creators edition. The lag/freeze can be described as a period of time every 10 minutes or so in which the computer stops responding to keyboard input and eventually to mouse movements, if you had a youtube video or audio playing in the background it starts coming out distorted, everything makes you think there is something hogging the CPU or RAM, it recovers itself after 20 or 30 seconds, sometimes less than that.I first blamed Slack Client but quickly found that it didn't have anything to do. It didn't seem related to load as the CPU/RAM usage in Task Manager remained low during these periods.I then blamed a recent Windows Update patch , which i rolled back prompty without noticing any changes. My last option and what ultimately resolved the issue is the rolling back the BIOS upgrade that i applied at about the same time of the windows patch.I enabled the Allow Back-Flash option in BIOS setup and rolled back to version 2XCN29WW, and the problem dissapeared for good, and just to confirm that the BIOS was to blame after a few days of happy computing i decided to give the new BIOS another try and TADAH! soon after the update the freeze/lags started again.I just wanted to share this with you guys in hopes that if you are having similar issues you can resolve them using this message. And since Lenovo doesn't seem... Any ideas on what to do? Is the hotkey function working on other Yoga 720 computers? Thanks!

As in my subject, can the Yoga 720 (15-inch) be hooked up to a 2560x1440 @ 144Hz External Monitor? I understand that I have to get a usb-c to DisplayPort adaptor to get it to work. However, I am not sure of the DisplayPort specifications in this Thunderport 3 port of Yoga 720 as for a laptop to run 144Hz on an external monitor, it has to be at least DisplayPort 1.2.

Answer:Yoga 720 - 15IKB: Can it be hooked up to a 2560x1440 @ 144Hz External Monitor?

I'm not an expert with monitors, but I'd check the monitor's specs to see what kind of inputs it'll work with. I would imagine the monitor will upscale or adapt to the input signal. It'd be silly to make a monitor that wouldn't work with anything the installed base of computers can throw at it.

I would like to share my experiences how to fix noisy audio output on Dell Optiplex 755 under linux. I did try changing power supply, better video card, adding separate sound card (front panel audio output doesn't work then) updating drivers and even changing the whole computer. I was first sure that the reason for the noise must be old capacitors somewhere in the system board or in the power supply. It took me months to find the solution.
The symptoms are: static noise on audio even if there should be no sound at all. The noise doesn't depend on the audio volume.
The solution: open terminal, start alsamixer. HDA Intel Analog Devices AD1984 should open. Use right cursor key to scroll the screen until Beep audio level adjust is selected. Lower the volume of Beep down. This should fix the noisy output.  I set the Beep volume to 6%.Apparently Beep sound output produces low level noise even if no beep sound is produced. If Beep volume is adjusted to high in alsamixer, this noise is amplified and added to the audio mix.

I have a customer who has the above model Lenovo laptop. She hooked up an an external display via HDMI using a HDMI-mini HDMI adapter connected to the mini-HDMI port of the laptop which was working fine for more than a few months. She was using the Best Buy Insignia brand. All of a sudden, the external display no longer detected the laptop and the laptop didn't detect the second display. I remoted in and checked everything out and it seemed OK as far as drivers and such so, for simplicity sake (and after having her verify the external display was working wtih other devices), I had her pick up an Insignia HDMI-miniHDMI cable and just bypass the adapter. She tried that, no luck. So I remoted in again and uninstalled the Intel and Nvidia drivers and reisntalled them using the drivers from the Lenovo website. There was no change. I've done some extensive research about this issue in the forums and there have been other models with similar issues and the fixes were... using a different cable, different adapter, or both. These were mainly solutions to solve the problem of secondary displays not being detected at first, not fixing the issue of it working just fine for a while until one day... nothing. Has anyone come across an issue similar to this? I'm trying to get more of a definate solution versus swapping more adapters and cables around. One last idea I have is to hook it up to my monitor via an HDMI to DVI adapter using her HDMI to mini HDMI cable but I have a feeling, th... Read more

I purchased a Yoga 700 14ISK about a month ago. I'm enjoying it so far, with one exception. The computer emits a high pitched noise almost constantly, even when CPU use is low (just browsing, PDF reading, e-mail type things) and the fan turns on very frequently even when the machine isn't running hot. For example, I'm only running Chrome and e-mail right now, but the fan is running at full blast.  Is anyone else experiencing this problem, and is there a fix for it? I have read about BIOS updates for previous models that allowed access to fan settings. Will something like that be released for this model?  Like I said, really enjoying using this notebook (recently switched over from a MacBook Pro), but the noise is really annoying.

Answer:Yoga 700, noisy fan... any fixes?

I believe that this is a problem with all Yoga series laptops (except Yoga 2 Pro). The fan noise is really unbearable - loud and high-pitched...I've just had mine for a week and thinking of returning it because of this issue.

I have a Lenovo IdealPad Yoga notebook for 3 years. It worked well in the past three years, but the fan started to become noisy when the notebook startup since last December. Noisy fan became louder and louder and the duration for the occurance of noisy fan became longer and longer in these months. Could I get any suggestion to solve this annoying problem, please? Thank you in advance!

Answer:IdealPad Yoga Noisy Fan

Could be because there's an application that's using the CPU's resources, or that the thermal paste isn't as effective after 3 years. I would first suggest a system restore/ reset. Also, Lenovo has some BIOS update to address fan noise for certain Ideapad models (for example, here's the Yoga 13: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-13-Fan-Noise/ta-p/1065093). Head over to http://support.lenovo.com and enter your product info to update your BIOS.

My Yoga 2 Pro's hinge has for the longest time made this somewhat loud "snap" sound when adjusting the hinge. It is just when it is in normal laptop mode. When I adjust the screen, it makes the sound and I can sort of feel it, too. It is only in the left hinge, though. I am really getting annoyed with it now. Also, just a few days ago, my right hinge started to make this completely different "crackling" noise when adjusting it from any angle. There are several of these crackle sounds. They are quiter than the snapping, and are a completely different sound. They also do not make any vibrations, unlike the snapping. What is going on here? Oh, I'd also like to add that for the longest time when I adjust the screen, in the very bottom left corner there is this pretty severe screen ripple. It is only on the left side and even occurs when I adjust the screen from the right side.

Once it even got worse, but it certainly didn't fix anything... Got the laptop two days ago and I'm pretty much happy with it except for an extremely loud fan. I've tried updating BIOS and changing the power settings, but with no luck. Answer:Noisy fan on thinkpad yoga 14 20dm

Hi, welcome to the forum.

It is always hard to define on a forum how noisy is a fan, because everybody has its own perception of it.

If the TP Yoga fan it is not noisy for some time and it suddenly rise up, I think it can be interesting to monitor the temperature (Like with OpenHWMonitor) of the computer to see if it rise too, and also you can check (Ctrl+Alt+Del on the task admin) if there is any strange application that is running taking over the processor that makes it rise the temperature.

My other idea will be using "Lenovo Companion" to have your driver (especially the Thinkpad Power Driver) updated.

Hello, I bought my Lenovo Yoga 900 about 2 weeks ago. The fan is really loud. I have checked Task manager and when the Cpu is at 6% idle it's still loud. So no program is causing this. I have updated the Wifi Drivers and the Bios to no avail I have read several forum posts about this common problem on here but there seems to be no solution. Does anyone have a solution or a idea to try? Before I return.

When you lightly tap the touchpad to start moving the cursor, it makes a noise.  It's almost as if its being depressed around one mm every time you touch it.  Now, I'm not talking about intentionally pressing it down and hearing a click.  Just lightly putting your finger on the pad.  Is the feeling of it depressing slightly and making a small noise normal?

Answer:Yoga 3 Touchpad is Noisy. Is that normal?

Hi deputydog95,

I find if I tap lightly, there is no noise. If I tap a little harder, there is a slight noise which sounds like the touchpad moving a bit. If I click, there's a definite clicking noise.
.
If you want to adjust, Touch sensitivity is in the Mouse Control Panel (under Synaptics Device Settings Advanced).

Hope this helps!

Has anyone else experienced--in addition to the irritating trackpad issues--the mushy, noisy keyboard I'm experiencing? It has a lot more "give" and flex than I'm used to. I read reviews saying that the keyboard on this was "typical Lenovo, excellent" but I'm inclined to strongly disagree. It feels chincy, cheap, and mushy...probably one of the worst keyboards I've ever had the misfortune of using. This one is NOT up to Lenovo's typical keyboard standards. Oh it looks nice, and I even like the shallow keystroke, but the keyboard tray itself flexes too much while typing...it makes typing on it feel, for lack of a better descriptor, mushy. The mushiness would be bad enough but the plus (+/=) and minus (-/_) keys both creak when typed. UGH. And this is true for the top row of function keys as well. Seriously? A creaky keyboard? Unbelievable.  Are these issues just the Yoga I got? Or are others out there experiencing the same things? My wife and I also own the Lenovo V570 which has a far superior keyboard, a non-finicky trackpad, and no creakiness while typing. Sure it doesn't do back-bends like the Yoga, nor does it have the beautiful screen--but comeon, Lenovo, if you're not going to make the rest of the laptop excel, then why bother? The Yoga: awesome screen (high resolution, amazing colors and clarity, and has touch), interesting ability to do back-bends with the screen, nice look and feel (I personally really like the size, weight, dimensions, and the feel of ... Answer:Noisy mushy keyboard on Yoga

sorry to hear of your Yoga's keyboard experience.

my Yoga13's keyboard is rock-solid, no flex, no squeak/creak. i will admit that the new 6-row island-style keyboard is new to me, and i'm still not used to the rearranged key locations, but i wouldn't describe it as a mushy or imprecise feeling.

if you really do like all of the other aspects of your machine, i'd recommend that you give Service a call and request that the keyboard be replaced.

I just got my X1 Yoga yesterday, and for the most part it's quite nice.  I've got a bit of an issue with the touchpad though.  Has anybody else noticed that it's a bit "floaty"?  With just the slightest touch (i.e. even less weight than typical usage), the whole touchpad surface will sink maybe 1mm or less, until it's flush with the bottom groove.  When I let my finger up, the touchpad surface will bounce back until it's flush with the palm rest.  When it does this, it produces a slight "thunk" and sounds as if the entire palm rest is making a clicking sound.  I'm not talking about when I press down to click either -- that works as expected.  Is this supposed to be normal?  I use an E450 thinkpad at work, and the touchpad surface is rock solid and does not shift position. I took a video to illustrate what I mean and attached it here in the zip file (since a mp4 file is not a supported file format for uploading)

I saw there are also Yoga 910 owners who posted on Reddit and other sites with the same issue. Lenovo: WILL YOU FIX THIS PROBLEM OR NOT? IF you fix it.. I will keep the laptop..but if not I'm gonna have to return it to the store. So please let people know. The fan is TOO loud. Just got an X1 Yoga 2nd Gen, and while the trackpad buttons (the mouse buttons, not the trackpad itself) seem more reliable than my X1 Carbon, they make a ton of noise. Unless you depress them directly in the center (which is difficult, given their width & the fact that I rest my thumb on the middle button for scrolling), you can hear a "pop" that sounds like one of those old-tymey Atari 400 membrane keyboards. It's loud enough that I imagine it would be irritating to anyone sitting next to me at work.  Is this a design issue, or do I need to RMA the thing? Also, the screen has a couple issues:  First, the color is uneven (greener on the left, pinker on the right), which I suspect is due to the bleed I see with a black screen in the upper-left corner.  Not sure if OLEDs are even supposed to have bleed problems, but it's fairly obvious in a dark room.  I suspect this is a repair situation, but just wondering if it's a known problem. Finally, when playing a movie, the screen drops to low-contrast after 5-10min of no user input.  (This is Windows 10.)  Moving the pointer pops it back into high contrast.  It very much appears to be a contrast thing, and not the screen dimming.  I've turned off all the auto-dimming settings I could find - but the Intel one that was my suspected culprit seems to be missing from the Intel interface you get by right-clicking on the desktop.  Has anyone noticed/solved this particular issue?  (A... I have a Lenovo X1 Yoga Thinkpad (manuf April 2017). After removing Windows 10, I installed Ubuntu and found that the built-in touchpad is not detected. Touchscreen works great. I can even connect an external mouse and it works fine. But nothing from the built-in touchpad. I filed a bug with the linux kernel here since it is probably a missing driver in the kernel. BUT, I've read in the internets that other people have been able to get ubuntu installed on X1 Yoga's so I think there must be some workaround that I'm not aware of. Any ideas?

Answer:X1 Yoga Touchpad Not Detected in Ubuntu 14, 16, and 17

There seems to be a similar issue for the yoga 720 15 version with the touchpad not being detected in any of ubuntu versions. I am not familiar with the third part of the bug description but it seems to list the product version and name as the yoga 720 15 inch and not x1 yoga. Maybe that has something to do with the touchpad not being detected.

Hey, i bought a Yoga 2 Pro ~2 months ago and though i had little doubts on win8 I immediately started to love the whole system - the hardware as well as the software. So, I'm on my M.Sc. of computer science and for that (and for private reasons, too) I need linux. Until a week ago I used ubuntu 14.04 in a VM but due to the breathtaking resolution of the y2p it did not work for my complete satisfaction. Then i wanted to install linux on a usb stick, but that went horribly wrong: I accidentally formatted the ssd and installed linux on the y2p instead of the usb stick (as student of computer science -.-).So, after the first panic attacks I thought about keeping linux as OS but now I know for sure that I want the old OS back. Thus I formatted the ssd completely, the system recovery function of lenovo is not available anymore. Trying to make a bootable win8 usb stick is not working since the win license key is not readable from bios in linux. Are there any ways to get back to factory settings in my situation? Regards, fenriz

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro factory reset (in ubuntu 14.04)

Can you start the recovery by booting with NOVO button and Windows recovery USB stick plugged in?If you don't have USB recovery stick then I'm afraid you'll have to order DVDs from Lenovo. Not for free.

The issue is that I am trying to make a UEFI Ubuntu installation but I can't get the USB to boot at all. I have made the bootable USB using Rufus 2.15 with the following settings:Partition scheme: UEFI GPTFilesystem: Fat32ISO image: 64 bit version of Ubuntu 16.04 (written as ISO image, not DD)Regarding my BIOS settings I have turned off secure boot, USB ports are always turned on, USB boot is enabled, CSM/Legacy is off. Furthermore I have turned off fastboot in Windows.Trying to boot via USB-FDD, USB-CD or USB-HDD does not work, it just proceeds and initializes the Windows operating system. Therefore I would like to hear if any of you have had any success dual booting a UEFI Ubuntu installation alongside your Windows installation. Help would very much be appreciated. Thanks in advance/Rvillebro

I'm running Ubuntu GNOME 15.10 on my Yoga 300 iby but the automatic screen rotation feature seems to not work with this OS, does anyone know how to fix it? P.S.Just knowing the name of the accelerometer or a script that allows me to find it would be great

I have a 2nd generation Thinkpad Yoga 12 with a hybrid drive (16GB SSD + 500GB HDD), and there's always a noticeable fan like noise coming from the right top side of the laptop chassis (under the keyboard).  Is that the hard drive making noise as it's spinning?  I did not anticipate such a noticeable sound from my laptop.
