X1 Yoga (Type 20FQ, 20FR)-Display issues when booting up while disconnected from external monitor

Question: X1 Yoga (Type 20FQ, 20FR)-Display issues when booting up while disconnected from external monitor

When I boot up without a connection to an external monitor I experience some display issues with text sizing of certain objects within certain applications (e.g. Microsoft Visual Studio). In these applications parts of the User Interface display perfectly. Other parts of the same application will have vastly oversized objects and text. And, in another application the text is greatly undersized in certain portions of this app. When I boot up while connected to an external monitor everything displays perfectly on the external monitor. This happens without making any changes whatsoever to system display setting or application configuration settings. If I disconnect the external monitor the X1's internal monitor still displays everything perfectly. But if restart while disconnected from an external monitor I experience the same display issues as described in the 1st paragraph. I don't think this problem was always there, but I cannot say for sure. It just got so annoying that I finally decided to write to the forum today. I would guess that the problem has been this way for 1-2 months. The Lenovo System Update app tells me that everything is up to date. Is there some setting or perhaps driver that needs to change? I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

After installing these drivers the display on the X1 Yoga remains black and is unsuable when docked or undocked; however external monitors are functional. Any ideas on what is causing this? The OneLink+ dock is also at the latest driver/firmware. Rolling back to the previous version resolved the issue, but I continue to still have the random black, white and/or gray blocks that randomly appear within the Office Suite. I was hoping the 21.20.16.4505 Display Drivers would help with this. Thanks

Having an issue with my X1 Yoga  riinning Win10 64-bit and all firmware & drivers are up to date. I often plug in an HDMI screen to my machine and when I do and step away for a few mins the screen goes blank to save power etc. When I return and click these or hit a key the backlight on the laptop comes back on but no image is displayed on either the laptop nor the HDMI monitor. If I unplug the HDMI cable then the laptop screen comes back perfectly and then I can plug the HDMI back in and get the image back on my larger monitor. This seems much different issue then the "blank screen" I read up on and appears to be a detecing from sleep state issue in the driver etc. Anyone else have this? Any fixes for this as I'm plugging the HDMI in/out/in 5 times a day or more... This never occured in the past so appears to be an update issue.

Hi ChrisPerry,

Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.

As I understand that you are facing issue after installing Intel Display driver from Lenovo
If that's the case why not give it a try to update it from Intel one from here. And try to update it from Device Manager manually from zip file.

Do let us know how it goes.

Having a very strange (and annoying) issue with the display. I can only see the display on my Twist after connecting it to an external monitor first. If I do not, all I see is a black screen. No cursor, no anything. If I connect it to an external display via the display port to VGA adapter, it works fine. If connect it to an external display and then disconnect my external display, the display will remain on the Twist. However, if I reboot, I lose the screen again until I connect it to an external monitor. I made sure that "PC Screen Only" is chosen in the Fn+F7 option. This is obviously a serious problem. This is for company use and our users will not have a VGA monitor handy with them where ever they go. I checked the hardware manager and all the drivers are installed with no warnings.

Answer:Lenovo Twist display issues - No display unless I connect to an external monitor

Figured out a work around and narrowed down the problem. If I hit the Second Screen key (F7) after booting, it will go PC Only as the first choice and bring up the display on the laptop after a few seconds. The puzzling thing is why it seems to choose the external monitor as the default monitor on boot, even if it is not conected. I've tried running System Updater to make sure that I have all the latest drivers. All the display settings appear to be correct.

Hello,I do have a strange issue which is getting rather annoying now.Using my Yoga mostly with external monitor (USB-C) attached, once I disconnect (using it laptop only for some time) and then reconnect again the scaling (usually 150%) most of the time gets messed up. Especially the Office applications get blurry, scaling in Windows Explorer sometime is simply like 200%.I have tried reset to default, update with Lenovo drivers, the Intel original drivers are somehow not supported. Any hint, or sharing your experience is highly appreciated! Best,Beniamin

Hi, I have two major issues. I'm connected to an external monitor using a display port to hdmi converter, and an hdmi to dvi cable. When I am on "Energy Saving" (switchable graphics) mode, the external nomitor blinks every 5-10 seconds, but it is perfectly fine when I am under "High Performance" (switchable graphics) mode, so I'm not sure that it's the cables/adapters/monitor that I am using. The second is I cannot change my brightness using fn+home/end when I go through this process: In "Maximum Performance" (power plan) mode (while plugged into ac)unplug acGo into "Maximum Battery Life" (power plan) modeplug in acplug in external display to displayportGo into "High Performance" (switchable graphics) modeuntil I change back into "Maximum Performance"(power plan) mode then back into "Maximum Battery Life" (power plan)mode then back into "High Performance" (switchable graphics) mode. This is a bit annoying, but at least I found the steps to temporarially work around the problem ... edit: Okay it happend to me again, but i can't fix it (haven't tried a reset though, but i don't want to bc I just started the computer and that's ridiculus). Also, I can change the brightness fine when the computer is in Energy Saving" (switchable graphics), but I get the blinking problem, which is why I mentioned it earlier.

Please helpI am trying to connect my new Yoga 900 to an external Full HD monitor Samsung syncmaster b2430hd using the following adapter which I connected to the USB type c of the Yoga and to the HDMI port of the monitor: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00X4S5C7G?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00 However, the picture on the external monitor look fuzzy and the taskbar is hardly visible.I?ve tried reducing the resolution to the native for the external monitor i.e., 1920 x 1080 but still did not help. Are there any adjustments to the display settings that I can make to improve the picture on the monitor?

Answer:Connecting Yoga 900 to an external monitor issues.

Welcome to the forums!

I have a suspicion it has to do with the video scaling setting on the SyncMaster. If you go to Picture > Advanced Settings > Picture Settings, look for Size. Change it to Screen Fit. There may also be a button on your remote to change the Video Mode / Aspect Ratio or something similar.

Connecting my new Lenovo Thinkpad yoga to an external monitor (Samsung SyncMaster P2770HD) with the mini-HDMI port to the HDMI port in the monitor, results in very bad display quality: text is fuzzy, edges, lines and text seems with white halo, as if this is not the native resolution of the screen (the screen native resolution is 1920x1080 and this is indeed the resolution I use). When connecting my old X220 to the same screen, but with a VGA to VGA cable, I get excellent display. What's going on?

I have a UK model Yoga 2 Pro (Core i7/256GB/8GB). Generally happy with it but I have one weird issue that is annoying me. The system is fully patched including all Windows updates and latest Lenovo BIOS and drivers. At work I have a Dell P2414H monitor connected to my Yoga 2 Pro (micro HDMI to HDMI cable into an HDMI to DVI adapter plugged into the monitor's DVI port). Windows recognises the Dell monitor in display settings. I can extend my desktop onto it. I can run the Cleartype Tuner and tune the laptop screen and Dell cleartype settings independently. All good so far... In Taskbar and Navigation Properties (right click on the taskbar and select Properties) I expect to see a "Multiple Displays" section on the Taskbar tab with a setting that allows me to extend the taskbar across both screens, as per this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-8/how-connect-multiple-monitors. However, whatever I try I never see the "Multiple Displays" settings in Taskbar Properties. I have rebooted with the external screen connected and not connected and tried everything else I can think of but all to no avail. Is anyone else seeing a similar issue with an external monitor connected to their Yoga 2 Pro?

Hi, I'm using my Yoga 900 on the desktop for longer periods of time. When it awakes from sleep it does not always "remember" that it was last displaying on the external monitor. Sometimes I have no picture at all, sometimes I have the picture on the internal monitor. When I switch to external only with F10, it won't do that, so the external monitor (HP 24es) won't wake up. Up to now my only solution is to plug out and back in the Type C adapter (Apple 3x multi adapter). That's definitely not what I want to do several times a day. Thanks for any hint...!

Hi, I've just bought a Yoga 2 11 inch laptop. The display resolution is 1366×768 and I have a monitor which has a resolution of 1920x1080. I can't find any documentation regarding the maximum output display of this laptop, but assumed it could probably manage 1920x1080. However, when I connect it to the monitor, the monitor will only display in 1366×768, which means that the monitor display is a small rectangle taking up about half of the screen. Does anybody know the maximum output resolution? Is there something I am missing, a work around? Thanks

Answer:Yoga 2 11 Inch maximum output resolution (issues with external monitor)

You should be able to run your external monitor at some other arbitrary resolution. You need to configure the external monitor to display alone, or be extended rather than a clone of the other display.Try hitting WindowsKey + P and choose "Second screen only", for example.

I am experiencing issues with external monitor displays on W530 connected through ultra dock.  Am running a total of 3 monitors (W530 display plus two monitors).  Whenever there is any sort of time out or sleep mode, the external monitors come back too bright and too yellow.  I can quickly fix by just toggling back and forth between "Use NVIDIA Settings" or "Other Applications Control Color Settings" on the NVIDIA Control Panel but the changes don't stick and the problem recurs.   Other quirks which may be related are that expanding windows to full screen will sometimes spread across the entire 3-monitors vs just the monitor the window is set up in.  Shrinking and trying again usually fixes this item.  Also, when undocked sometimes W30 display comes up with very low brightness.  Again, problem fixies by closing cover and retrying. Have tried INTEL power savings settings suggested on similar posting.  No change. Anyone else encountered these issues?

Well, running w7 ultimate on a Dell xps m1330 laptop. Everything looks good, but at work I am connected to a matrox triple-head-to-go device which is connected to (3) 22' monitors (3840x1280 resolution). Now when I connected it, ran the nvidia app, it found it and worked great.

Problem is I get home, no external connected, so running off the laptop with the basic resolution, I am trying to start apps (firefox, stickies, etc.) and I guess they were in other spots at work as I don't see them. I forced a close on FF, then re-started, rt clicking and maximizing which worked, but then other apps like stickies don't have that option. An alt-tab shows it running in the lower right (see screenshot), but there is absolutely no way of getting to the app! I did close the app completely and restarted, but it does restart in a location not on the screen.

Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.

This monitor is called Samsung Syncmaster t240hd. Its an hdtv monitor with 1920 x1200 resolution for monitor. I believe if used as a TV, its 1920 x 1080 though but i wont use it for tv. Anyways, the first thing i noticed was the monitor isn't straight. If you look at it from the side, it looks like its slouching. Is there a way to fix this? Thus adjust it a bit higher?
The other thing is when i look at numbers/words, its a lot harder to read than my old monitor? Thus you see its much easier to read the same thing on my laptop screen compared to this monitor. My laptop is dell xps 15 9550 and very nice. But its just harder to read on this hdtv. I tried making brightness higher than 45 and this makes it much worst. The lower it is, a bit better but its just harder to read on it. Basically its looks very yellowish? For example when i go to a site on another forum, where most of it is white... if i open the same page on this monitor, its yellow. Its a really ugly color and just hard to look at the screen.
Can someone tell me how i can fix this issue? Also i wasn't aware of this but this hdtv monitor has glass over the monitor. Is this how all hdtv monitors are? Is that the reason why its harder to read on this as oppose to a regular monitor?
Are there settings i can change that i can make reading words and letters much easier?
These are the settings when i click on the menu button

Hi, I have a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro (x64) on my X1 Yoga, installed in UEFI mode. I wish to encrypt the drive with Bitlocker with TPM and PIN. Another user on a different thread alluded that this is not possible as the X1 Yoga I have uses a PCIe-NVMe disk, for which there is no hardware support for Bitlocker. Is this correct or am I confused?

Answer:Lenovo X1 Yoga (20FQ) BitLocker with TPM and PIN

I meant you cannot use the AES hardware engine of the NVMe SSD (if a SED like the OPAL2 option) - but you can use software BitLocker just fine. This means the CPU will have to do the crypto instead for some performance penalty depending on your I/O - see CPU utilisation during a benchmark for example. Also do note that using FDE (full disk encryption) on a SSD is not "great" as the whole disk "looks full" to the SSD - so you may need to over-provision for best performance. You can also use "encrypt only used space" instead. There are pros and cons for each.

My X1 Yoga is only about 1.5 years old, but the battery does not even last a day. According to the power report, in 23 hours it went from 66% (33,600 mWh) to 9% (4660 mWh) after selecting 'Shut down' from the Win 10 menu. But Windows' battery report (powercfg /batteryreport) shows that the X1 Yoga did NOT power off, but went into suspend mode.  1. I've checked all 'Power' options I could find, and nothing seems to tell it to NOT power off. I even unchecked 'Fast Startup', just in case that was related, but it did not help. Does anyone know how to actually power down this thing? 2. Even in suspend mode, is it reasonable that battery usage drop from 66% to 9% in 23 hours? Thanks in advance for any help or insights anyone can provide.

First, are you still under warranty?  Many x1 yoga machines are.  It is easier to consider repair options if someone else is paying for it.

I have been working extremely happy with my new X1 Yoga (20FQ) for the last 4 months, unfortunately some apps and Win10 udpates have messed my laptop, now I am seeing blue screens daily. I decided to perform factory reset, but F11 or Fn+F11 at boot results in nothing, the lap boots normally. I called customer support and they decided to ship a recovery media, which will take a few days to arrive, I have not given up and still am trying. I found out that accessing to BIOS (F1) does not work either, so I updated the laptop firmware to the latest level and also updated the Intel Management Engine, hoping this would give me access to BIOS or the well desired F11 to boot the Rescue and Recovery utility. Needless to say, F11  or Fn+F11 still results in nothing. So I write here to ask for alternatives to access either BIOS (F1) or Rescue and Recovery (F11), seems to me I must be doing something incorrectly that is not getting me to either menu. Thank you in advance for any advice. Best regards.

All updates installed. If I boot, the pen works perfectly. But if the systems enters in standby or hibernation, after recovery the pen is totally not working. I need to reboot to have it working again. I tried to restart Wacom services as described in another thread, but without success.

When I move between home and office, I go into hibernation since sleep mode is unstable. Often when I turn back on the Yoga, the screen remains black but I know the laptop is on and can get the image on the external monitor.Going into the display parameters doesn't help: the laptop display doesn't exist. Same with the F10 key: the external display has become the "laptop display". I have to restart Windows. Any alternative?

Answer:Yoga 900 external display works but laptop display remains black

Hi Kitten,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

Hello, I have decided to do a clean install of Windows 10 Professional (x64) on my Lenovo X1 Yoga (20FQ). I'm currently pulling my hair out trying to install Windows 10 in UEFI mode, I want to do this so I can use the full functionality of the TPM chip and bitlocker. No matter what I do I have not been able to install Windows 10 Professional (x64) in UEFI mode, I've only been able to install it in legacy mode. I've tried multiple configurations of the BIOS in terms of disabling Legacy/enable UEFI OS to boot but when I put the BIOS in UEFI only mode the Windows 10 Professional (x64) USB key (that I've created using the .iso downloaded with the Microsoft Download Tool), the machine refuses to boot from the USB key or the PCIe-NVMe when in UEFI Only mode. Can someone point me to a guide for installing Windows in UEFI mode?

Hi Guys,  I'm the IT handiman at a local business. Things have been going okay, so they brought me a Yoga 2 Pro that they had abandoned because it's screen went weird so now it only shows colors.  So, when I turn on the computer, the display immediately starts cycling through colors. When I use an adapter to the micro HDMI, I can see the display on an external display. I can even change the display settings to essentially use the yoga as a computer tower log onto the computer like normal and enable RDP so I can get SOME use out of the machine as a server box, but that feels like a waste of a high performance machine. Video.  IDK what's wrong. If it was a graphics card or something, I would think that I wouldn't be able to use the external display. I'm not sure what's up or what to see about trying to order and replace.  Anyone have any idea what I should look at? I can make this laptop into the little print server we need, since it's not good for much else right now, but I'd rather get it back in service as a laptop and use a lower end machine for a simple print server.  Help me? Please?

Answer:Yoga 2 Display only showing colors. Seems to still work with external display.

I looks like a dead LCD display, or a dead ribbon cable to me, I had a similar issue with my C340, wasn't software related. You can try to contact Lenovo support, they may be able to repair it. http://support.lenovo.com

I am very happy with my ThinkPad Yoga S1 and do like very much the digitizer pen capability. It works well (given some calibration issues) when the Yoga works without an external display. However, as soon as an external display is connected, the pen outputs always on the external display (and not the internal).

I have the yoga connected through OneLink Pro, and an external monitor connected to the display port. I am using both the internal screen as well as the external screen in the extended mode (i.e. not duplication). When I use the pen on the yoga screen, the actions appear on the external display (and not on the yoga screen). This is very confusing, as the pen actions don?t appear where I apply them.

I?ve attempted to set the yoga screen as the main screen, but did not have success. Also using DVI instead of display port did not help. I also tried it with three displays (internal, DVI, DP) all in the extended mode (it is nice that these setup as possible by the way), but the pen still it appears on the display port monitor.

In order to use the pen meaningfully, I do have to disconnect all external monitors and work only with the yoga screen.

Anybody has seen this? Is this an issue of the pen driver (all updated to the latest state) or the operating system (Windows 8.1, 64bit)?

Thanks for any help in advance!

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga: Pen and External Display (pen on wrong display)

Hey hey!Im new here in this forum, i was looking for an answer for my problem, but i couldnt find one.So here is whats going on:I got a brand new Thinkpad Yoga with a One Link Dock and a second monitor. When i try to work with the Wacom pen on the main monitor (the one of the thinkpad yoga) and hold the pen over it, or try to write on it, the coursor instantly sets to the second monitor (the attached one).So i want to have the pen input on my main monitor, while i write on it and got the second monitor attached, like for reading or so.I cant find options in this Windows 8 to fix this issue.Under Linux it wouldnt be a problem, i found heaps of answers for that, but im sadly with windows. If you even got experience with Linux on the Yoga, could you tell me if that works wel and if its possible to dual boot? Thanks and kind regards - Kay

So the thinkpad yoga looks great.. When are they going to upgrade the yoga 2 pro to a thinkpad yoga 2.  12.5 screen is to small for my day to day (even with 21" external hooked up.  And I want 500G SSD, Thinkpads are a lot less business friendly then they used to be.. what happened? (long battery would be nice too).Does anyone know where one can find "new release info"?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga: Pen and External Display (pen on wrong display)

X series have always had a small 12 inch convertible laptop. X41t to X230t have all being around 12 inch. So ThinkPad Yoga has continued the tradition of offering 12 inch screen size. You can easily do the hdd upgrade yourself, i have put a 1 tb ssd in my ThinkPad Yoga, and it has been fantastic. I guess that is the benefit of the ThinkPad Yoga with its 2.5 inch hdd slot, compared to other tablets that use PCI-e or M.2. SSD standards.

I'm trying to use an older flat screen monitor as an extended monitor on my Yoga 900 series laptop.  I have a VGA to USB connector.  The reason I"m trying to do this is that I cannot use Windows 10 terminal server to remote to my clients server because the resolution is so high everything is tiny.  (I have played with the resolution on my laptop; also the scaling, but when I finally get to a full screen resolution I can see, the cursor disappears in the apps I'm using). I can get the external monitor to work in extended mode just fine and the result on the old monitor is exactly what I want.  But when I'm in remote desktop, running Microsoft Access, the screen flickers and after just a few mminutes, blacks out.  I can revive it, but this is not a workable solution. I have a couple of other flat screens monitors I could try - but they are also older.  I'm willing to try them, but don't want to spend the time if someone else has a better idea. Do I need a more up to date monitor or should I suspect the converter cable.....OR is there another solution out there for my 'older' eyes?

Answer:using older Sony flat screen monitor as external monitor on Yoga 900

Hello,  The solution is to increase the resolution in the Display tab of your Remote desktop application:http://i.stack.imgur.com/MmSkB.jpgYou can even still use your two monitors if you want, by clicking "Use all my monitors for the remote session". About the strange Access problem, I would update the BIOS and the display driver of the Yoga, if it hasn't been done  already:http://support.lenovo.com/fr/fr/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Yoga-Series/yoga-900-13isk/downloads/D...http://support.lenovo.com/fr/fr/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Yoga-Series/yoga-900-13isk/downloads/D...

Hi, All of a sudden, in any application, I can't type for more than a few seconds without needing to "reselect" the screen or text box I'm trying to type in...  Basically, the cursor will disappear while I'm typing, forcing me to click the screen to resume the ability to type. When the cursor disappears, each keystroke is represented just by an "error" beep... This is extremely annoying. I've tried to alter every keyboard setting possible from toggling filter keys, to unistalling the driver...  Has anyone else experienced this, or know the cause/fix? Thanks. Edit: Using Windows 10.

Answer:Yoga 14 Can't type for over 5 seconds without keyboard issues

Hi sethdood. Welcome to the forums.

Can you please post the full model numer of you computer?  It should be something long like 20DM008UUS for example.

Just some guess to try to find the issue. Do it seems like something is grabbing the attention of the pointer while you are typing? something like when you are typing and someone else touched the screen and move the pointer focus to other location of the screen?

Can you check if it looks on the screen like you have random touches on the screen and the Windows "touch animation" appears on the screen?

It is just a guess.

Regards

I have an HP laptop and I have been running it with dual monitors. I finally decided to upgrade to Windows 7 and after I installed it I noticed that the built in monitor of my laptop looked strange and when I opened the display settings to change the screen resolution and set the external monitor as a separate monitor rather than a mirror I noticed that only one monitor was detected and it was the external one (Generic non-pnp monitor on standard VGA graphics adapter) and the built in monitor does NOT show up at all.

I've tried the detection button, in hopes that the computer would read the built in monitor and I could fix the problem. This did not help. I tried unplugging/replugging the external monitor to no avail. I tried restarting without the external monitor plugged in and it STILL reads the built in monitor as if it is the external one. Is there anyway to fix this? I have not tried re-installing the OS, not yet anyways.

Any suggestions ?

Answer:Monitor Issues - Laptop Reading Built In Monitor as if it were my external monitor.

Only thing I can think of is to disconnnect the external monitor, uninstall any monitors listed and then reboot and hope the computer installs the correct drivers for the laptop monitor.

Hi,I have a new Ideapad Yoga 13 that has boot issues once in a while, especially when I carry it around in a backpack. This time round, the battery drained when it was in suspend. On connecting it to power, it starts with the orange battery LED and says no boot device detected and doesn't detect SSD.Powering it down and trying to reboot it won't go on. The battery has charged beyond 20% but still won't boot.Long pressing power till it goes off and attempting to reboot it sees power LED turning white for like 1 or 2 seconds before going off.Unplugging power cable and plugging it back sees both power and battery LED turning on steady white, but comp doesn't go on.It has done this before, with the behaviour lasting from a few hours to a day or more. What could be the issue.

I can't get anything on the external display until after Vista has booted and I have logged in. How can I see the boot process and the login screen on my external display?Todd

Answer:External display while booting?

You need to change the Boot Display in BIOS.Go into BIOS, (F1 at boot), Config > Display > Boot Display Device and select DVI, should do the trick for you.

Looking on the left hand side of my laptop there is a port with a lightning sign next to it, is that called Thunderbolt? and is that my monitor/display port? and what lead do I need? it looks like some sort of micro socket!

I am using a 22" screen for my primary screen and the laptop lid open for a secondary screen. The main screens resolution is 1680x1050, I can set it to anything I want and it's always using the full screen. The laptop screen on the other hand will only use the full screen if it's at 1400x1050 resolution (max for that screen, IBM Thinkpad T43). With the large 22" screen I have no trouble reading the screen at high resolutions, the screen is huge, with the little 14" screen though I have to strain to read the screen at 1400x1050.

The problem is when I set the laptop screen to anything lower than 1400x1050, it uses less of the screen. Preferrably I want it at 1280x1024 or 1024x768 (I dont know which I want yet as I can't see the freaking screen at that resolution). At 1280x1024 for instance the useable screen is just a box in the middle, so the "1280x1024" is still barely readable for me cause it's shrunk from full screen, plus it's just annoying only using a portion of the screen.

I have played with the ATI Control Center, the Thinkpad display settings and windows display settings and just cannot get this thing to go full screen at lower resolutions when docked and using the external monitor.

Anyway to resolve this?

After the recent Windows 10 update, my wife's laptop no longer displays on the external monitor. All was well before the update.

I am comfortable that Windows sees the monitor because clicking on Display Settings shows two displays. If I unplug the HDMI cable, only one display is shown.

I have confirmed that the monitor works by trying it with another laptop. I have also changed the HDMI cable between the laptop and the external monitor.

Device manager reports that I have the latest display driver installed.

I would appreciate any and all suggestions.

Could you please be clearer? Is it possible to see something on the external monitor?
Do you see anything? What happens if you use the display device switch function FN+F5?

I don?t know how you have managed to set the external display as a primary display because on my notebook this option is grayed out.
However, you should see the notebook display if you will boot the notebook in the ?safe mode?. Please check it!

1. Try to download and install the latest Intel and NVIDIA GPU driver from official websites.

2. Download and install the latest BIOS for Yoga 500 from Lenovo Support Webpage.

3. If problem still persist, try and get a new HDMI cable to test if the existing HDMI cable is faulty.

Hello everyone I'm a new owner of the Yoga 720 15''. I've just bought apple thundebrolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 adapter and tried to connect external display using miniDP -> DP cable but with no luck. The same DP cable and monitor works ok on my MacBook (early 2015 with thunderbolt 2 ports). Computer sees the adapter (it's visible in the "printers and other devices" panel) but nothing is shown on my external display (it behaves like there is no cable connected to it and goes to sleep after few minutes). I've seen on various online stores that the apple adapter should work with my laptop. Is there something that I'm missing or maybe my T3 -> T2 adapter is broken? Thanks! Marcin

Hey guys, I recently purchased a micro hdmi to hdmi cable for an external display monitor with my Yoga 3 Pro however after connecting the laptop to the external display, I receive a 'No Signal' message on the external display. When the cable is not plugged into the external display, it says 'Check Signal Cable' therefore I know the external display can recognize when it is plugged into the laptop. I have read other forums regarding cutting back the plastic on the micro hdmi cable for further extension of the male end into the micro hdmi port however continue to experience 'No Signal' messages. Also in my display settings the laptop will not detect another monitor and graphics properties states there is only the single laptop display. Any suggestions will help, thanks!

I?m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with Display on ThinkPad L520.

Confirm whether the system is booting to BIOS.
Check with replacing LCD cable and check it once, if the issue still persists then the issue may be with System Board.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

Hello, I recently purchase a Lenovo Yoga 710 and want to connect to an external monitor (HP Pavilion 22cwa - offers VGA and HDMI input). I purchased a Micro-HDMI to VGA converter but the monitor does not detect a signal. I then purchased a USB 3.0 to HDMI converter but again the monitor does not detect a signal. I know the monitor works b/c I tested with a friends computer. Anyone have any ideas to how I can make this work or what else I can try? Thank you!

I have a Yoga Pro to which I have connected a large touch screen monitor and keyboard/mouse.  What I would like to do is to close the Yoga yet still have it not go to sleep while the monitor is connected.  i.e., use the Yoga as a desktop in my office.  Is this possible and how?

Hey, so I have an Asus VS247H-P 23.6-Inch Full-HD LED-Lit LCD Monitor and I just bought a Rocketfish micro-hdmi to hdmi cable. Whenever I connect it to the monitor, it just flickers with lots of red lines and keeps going on and off. Which I assume is due to it not being a stable connection. Anything I can do to fix it? Also, what settings do I need to use to get the highest possible resolution? And is the micro-hdmi to hdmi cable capable of running the monitor at its highest possible resolution?

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro External Monitor

I think I've more or less fixed the stability problems with the connection. My question now is, what are the best settings I should use to get the best resolution on my monitor while watching HD videos?

I have an external monitor connected to my HDMI port and when I unplugged and reconnected the monitor there was no external signal.  It doesn't appear to be a Windows update issue since there wasn't an update performed before I lost the connection.  Monitor and cable are both good since I tested on another laptop.  Would appreciate your help!

I bought a 720 (-15IKB) a couple of months and have been very pleased with it.  I'd like to be able to use an external monitor.  I really don't want or need a docking station, not playing video games, I just need a little extra screen real estate to have, say, one document open while I work on another. I happen to have an old Dell VGA monitor sitting around so I picked up USB-C to VGA cable but nothing on the monitor's screen and the computer doesn't seem to recognize a monitor is connected.  Can anyone please give me some suggestions on how to make this work. Thanks!

Hello, I am considering to buy an external 4K monitor or a LG 38" ultrawide monitor. I am currently running Windows 7 Professional but I could upgrade to Windows Creator Updates if I want to. I heard many complains about scaling issues with 4K displays. I suppose this happens when users are trying to increase the font size so that they could read the very tiny letters clearly. Am I correct? If I use a larger external 4K monitor, say at 40"-49" or a 38" LG ultrawide monitor at 3840x1600 resolutions, I should be able to see the letters without increasing the font size manually. In this case, will I still have scaling issues? I plan to use the monitor for CAD (SolidWorks), programming, Matlab/Simulink, data science, medical imaging, etc. Thank you.

I have a Tecra A9 running on XP, it has mobile Intel 965 Express embedded graphics. I use it with an external monitor, but everytime it boots up it keeps defaulting to the external monitor even though I keep setting the notebook as the default.

Has anyone seen this problem and how do I fix it so the notebook is always the default monitor?

Answer:Re: Tecra A9 keeps booting on the external monitor

Hi

Do you have connected the monitor directly to the notebook or with a port replicator?

On my Toshiba notebook I can?t notice this problem so in your case I would try to update the display driver and the BIOS. Both you can find on the Toshiba website:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

Before you update the display driver you should remove the old version and then restart the notebook.
About the BIOS update I can give you some tips: Close all running applications and also your antivirus and firewall. Furthermore you must be logged in as administrator and extract all files from the zip-archive before you start the update.

Bye

When I use an external monitor the scaling is off. The sizes of all the apps are too large. I know how to change the scaling but its a little annoying to do everytime I want to just use my laptop or plug it into a monitor. Is there a way to have the scaling to automatically adjust to the external monitor when plugged in and to my laptop when I unplug the monitor?

Hi,  Can someone from Lenovo officially confirm or someone who has bought this laptop test this and confirm, can the new Yoga 900 output 4k resolution @ 60hz to an external monitor, such as Dell P2715Q?  What I see in the specs, it has Intel HD 520, and the spec sheet says DisplayPort 1.2 via USB-C can drive4096x2304 @60Hz However, there's no confirmation anywhere of this, neither from Lenovo, nor from users. Most USB-C to DP cable makers haven't tested this yet.  I'm seriously considering the new Yoga 900 as a replacement for my T410. Main use is business and photo editing, and looks like an awesome laptop. The ability to hook up 1 external monitor at 4k @60hz is critical for me, otherwise, it's a Dell XPS 13. Thanks in advance,Vele

[email protected], hopefully someone can help.  I got a Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro 13 80HE004LGE for half a year.  Intel Core M-5Y70 1.1 GHz + Intel HD Graphics 5300, Kerntakt: 100-850 MHz, Dual-Channel, 20.19.15.4444 I used it with an external DELL 24" screen in extension setup WUXGA 1920 x 1200 pixel. Worked without any problem. Now changed the screen: DELL 27" (Dell U2713HM) . This screen should be able to provide WQHD 2560 x 1440 pixel but max I can choose in the set up (Win 10) is Full HD 1920 x 1080 pixel. I did the full program; 1. deleting drivers (Graphic and Monitor) reinstalled newest versions provided from Lenovo/Dell website,2. tried 3 different cables (HDMI and DVI), no differences :-(3. Installed Dell SetUp tool4. Installed intel set up tool (Could enter the high resolution manually here as personal setting, but does not work either) Nothing helped :-( screent stays on 1920 x 1080 :-( This 27" screen was running connected to a MacBook Pro without any problem in max. resolution 2560 x 1440 before.  Due to my research the Intel HD 5300 should be able to handle 2560 x 1440. Looking forward to helpful repliesDennis

Just purchased a X1 Yoga with OLED display - Windows 10, intel i7, etc. I have a Dell monitor at work and when I connect it to the HDMI port on my laptop, it recognizes the monitor (control panel/Intel HD graphics). However, the monitor keeps showing a message "No HDMI cable. the display will go into power save mode in 5 minutes". Does anyone know how to fix this? I tried updating all the drivers, the windows button + P, nothing works. I'm desperate!

I've got a Thinkpad yoga that I want to use in tablet mode to annotate pdf documents for a course that I'm teaching.   I calibrated the pen and everything works great when I've got the TPY in tablet mode on its own, not connected to an external display. But when I connect to an external display, the display resolution on my TPY seems to "shrink" to match that of the external display, and that seems to throw the calibration of my pen off:   it scales the images on the TPY display to the resolution of the external display but still uses the entire area of the TPY tablet as the pen input.  (I hope that makes sense) I've searched through every option in the display properties/screen resolution menu but can't seem to figure it out. How do I make the TPY display keep its own resolution (1920x1080), allow me to annotate my document normally as I'm looking down at it on my display, but still duplicate the screen to the external display??

I have a recently purchased Yoga 3 Pro-1370, on which I have installed Windows 10 Pro (64bit).  My poor old eyes require that I use an external display when I'm at my desk, so I am trying to port the mini-HDMI output to a 20" HP EliteDisplay E221c.  Nothing seems to work. I have purchased a mini-HDMI to HDMI adapter.  I also have a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable that connects directly to a TV set.Connecting the mini-HDMI to HDMI adapter to a standard HDMI cable I can see a Samsung SmartTV on my Windows machine as expected.  The Mini-HDMI to HDMI cable works as well.  So, HDMI to HDMI is peachy. However, the HP monitor has three inputs: VGA, DVI and DisplayPort (DP).  I have already discovered the limitations of HDMI to DP, where an active converter is required.  Thus, DP is not an option.I first tried Mini-HDMI to HDMI, then to a converter cable (HDMI to DVI).  The first time I hooked up the cable my system recognized the external display, and I was able to use it as expected.  Ever since I rebotted my Yoga after that very first time the machine does not recognize an external display (at the Windows level).  No Windows display choice is available and the monitor receives no signal.Same results with an HDMI to VGA adapter: no Windows recognition and no display signal. The HDMI TV's still work as expected. Can anyone tell me how to force the signal on the external display adapter?  Plug-and-play doesn't seem to be up to sn... Answer:Yoga 3 external DVI or VGA display not recognized in Windows 10

Probably the 1st thing you tried, but have you switched to external monitor only by pressing the Windows key + "P" and selecting "Projector only" output? Would love to hear your resolution.
