Preferred Solution: application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there,

Laptop: ASUS R552JV.
OS: Windows 10 x64.

The following error occurs occasionally:

Tried to update driver for Intel HD Graphics 4600 but it seems no updates for my processor Intel HD 4700HQ 2.40 GHz.

Guys, what else can be done?

Does it refer to Intel HD graphics or nVidia graphics?

Thank you.

Answer:Application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware

Hello sacredboy.

I would assume that it means the preferred graphics card and if I'm not mistaken that would be your nVidia graphics card but you can check it by using this guide to get it sorted out:

Dedicated GPU on Windows

Once you know which is the selected you have to either download the Intel Driver Update Utility or then the GeForce Experience:

Intel

or

GeForce

My issue began when I first launched a game on my computer. After playing for a bit my AMD driver crashed. It prompted me with an error reading "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" but it didn't give me much information. I then used the AMD Utility software to preform a clean uninstall of AMD drivers, and installed new drivers taken from the AMD website. When I tried to play the game again it crashed, this time it prompted me with another error message informing me that the "application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware".

I've tried the following in an attempt to fix the issue:

1) Tried using compatibility mode.
2) Tried running as administrator.
3) Tried turning off anti-virus software.
4) Used AMD Utility software to perform a clean uninstall of ADM drivers, reinstalled drivers. (No change)
5) Used DDU software to perform a clean uninstall of AMD drivers, reinstalled drivers. (No change)
6) Used regedit to increase TdrDelay to 8, did not fix the issue.
7) Used regedit to set TdrLevel to 0, did not fix the issue.
8) Tried using SFC, Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
9) Tried using DISM but it didn't come back with any issues either.

I'm not sure what else to do and there's little helpful information to be found online. I'm hoping someone here might be able to help.

Hello everyone,

I have just moved from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 (clean install, not an upgrade) and am now getting an error when running DirectX 9 games (Guild Wars 2, Mass Effect 1,2 and 3), it freezes the game and forces me to end the process, then gives me the titled error. Occasionally I'll get an error that the AMD display driver has crashed then recovered (once the game has been forcibly closed), then it will ping the titled error.

Same issue happened to me too yesterday when I booted Fallout 4, it froze for a few seconds and then closed on itself.

Seconds later, I get this notification (w10) telling me that this app was blocked from accessing the graphics hardware.

I have been using Windows 10 ever since it was officially released, all drivers are up to date, including the gpu one, whql.

I recently bought a gtx 960 and ive accumulated 19 hours so far in fallout 4 without any issue, any idea what's really going on with this error, what's causing it ? Ive looked it up online and its unclear whats causing it.

Hello guys. I wouldn't come to bother you with this issue if I haven't searched some other forums before without success. This issue is only happening with one game: Modern Warfare 3 (Steam version). Let me explain:
-First I got the "Graphic drivers stop responding...." error which is easily fixed by changing TdrDelay at the Regedit menu. I changed it from 3 to 10 and after that, the error now is "Application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware" with the respective freezing of the game and tray notification.

I used Display Driver Uninstaller for removing all drivers from my GPU and re installing the latest version (HD 5770 AMD graphic card). Anyway, I can play ANY OTHER GAME with no issues at all. It only happens with MWF3

I really don't know what else to do (maybe reinstalling the game, but I want to be shure there is no other problem with my system). Is there any other Tdr value that can be changed?

Thanks for kind help!!!

EDIT: The only thing I can remember is that this started happening after AMD asked for a software update an a AMD Evolded app shown up asking for "optimizing games". The latest to be optimized was MWF3. I have uninstalled AMD Evolved to see if maybe it made some changes to MWF3 as a "gaming profile" style and now I can't revert that...just maybe...

Hi everyone, I am getting desperate because I think my Lenovo Y410P graphics card (nvidia GT 750M) is either damaged or completely non-functional. Every time I try to start up a graphics-intensive program like games or benchmark programs, I get the message "Application blahblah.exe has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware." When I switch over to the integrated graphics (Intel HD 4600) my programs run fine, albeit with much lower resolutions and graphics quality. I noticed this after receiving my Y410P back from the repair center in Texas after sending it in because the laptop wouldn't even turn on one day. Whenever I look in the task manager after opening up a game, for example, the game will just stop loading after taking up a couple hundred MB of RAM, then go to like 1-2% CPU usage, and just hang there. When I try to alt tab into the game, it won't do anything or just give me a black screen. I tried reverting back to factory settings and doing a clean fresh install of all the graphics drivers directly from the Lenovo website. I even updated the graphics drivers to the latest version, but when I try to open geforce experience, I get the error message "Display driver ... has stopped responding and recovered." I've tried going into device manager and disabling/enabling the graphics card. I've tried changing around power settings. Can anyone help me determine whether the graphics card is actually broken or it's something else?

I have a T440 Thinkpad with Intel HD Graphics 4400 with the driver version 20.19.15.4531. I also have the Windows 10 Education version 10.0.10586. Everytime I try to play a game---ranging from Sid Meier's Pirates! (created in 2004) to Assassin's Creed Black Flag (2013)---the video within the game freezes then, after multiple Ctrl+Alt+Delete's and cancels back to the game, it crashes and I get the alert that "the application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware." I have tried to find fixes for this in many other places, but I have failed on multiple occasions. Most of the fixes are for Windows 7 or maybe 8. Are there any fixes for Windows 10 Education? I really need to know. it is driving me insane!

hi guys,

im having some issues when running a game (not through the internet website, through the downloaded launcher for it) sometimes it will crash and say: "application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware" and the games graphics will freeze. ive redownloaded the game launcher and ive tried to update the graphics card but it says that its already up to date so im not sure how to fix it. the drivers say 2015 but i cant find if there are any drivers more recent than that, ive trid generic intel automatic driver detection and installation wizard but the drivers it finds say theyre not compatible with my laptop: Acer Aspire V3-572 15.6-inch Notebook (Silver) (Intel Core i5-4210U 1.7GHz, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, DVDSM DL, WLAN, Bluetooth, Webcam, Integrated Graphics, Windows 8.1): Amazon.co.uk: Computers Accessories (this is the exact laptop i have)

originally it would say my display driver had crashed and recovered so i changed the timeout on the registry key: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/2665946 (i know its vista and win 7 but it worked).

Answer:HD Graphics 520 "the application is blocked to access the graphics hardware"

The TDR setting does not prevent the video driver from crashing, which is what that message means), it just delays displaying the message a bit longer, so you probably need an updated video driver.  You might want to install the latest driver from downloaded directly from Intel if you have not done so already, because it is a newer version than the one provided by Lenovo (especially if you are running Windows 10). You cannot use the .exe version, because it will see that you have an OEM Lenovo system and point you back to Lenovo, but if you download the .zip version you can unzip that file, and the install it manually. Downloads for Intel® HD Graphics 520 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/88355/Intel-HD-Graphics-520 Manually Install an Intel® Graphics Driver in Windows® 10 and Windows 8*/8.1https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005629.html Good Luck,

Hi,

how does a site that limits streamed content to, say, the UK "know" that I am in another country, and block the content?

What can I do to "seem" to be in the UK?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Accessing blocked content

Hi thegarty , and welcome to TSG.

The web site is probably going by your public IP address. The server compares your particular IP address against a table of known blocks of IP addresses assigned for use in the UK. You get blocked if your IP address isn't in the range of acceptable addresses.

Attempting to circumvent the server properly identifying your true IP address may be against TSG rules.

My outlook had started not downloading images, and my flickr uploader isn't uploading.
I started looking at outlook to fix the issue and it said check IE. IE will not access the internet. I have gone through the Diagonose Network Issue, it says the ports are blocked. I added a firewall exception, and port forwarding. And I still get no IE.
So I started checking programs, my antivirus isn't updating, and lots of other programs are not able to access the internet.
I ran combo fix and no results.
Any Ideas?
Thank you.

Hey guys,

I go to a residential highschool and recently they installed a filter. Apparently some kids can't stop using TorrentSpy and/or looking at porn all the time.

Trouble is, they aren't going to "take our requests" for taking sites off the black list until next week. I have no way to access LEGITIMATE websites like my personal email (gmail) or Livejournal.com and purevolume.com. Funny they would block a LEGAL way of getting music.

Anyhow, all of the proxy sites I once knew of don't work anymore (Atunnel.com, firewalldown.com, etc.) and I even found a thing on Google to use the translator as a proxy so that you type in http://www.google.com/translate?langpair=en|en&u=www.gmail.com to access gmail. Didn't work.

I get a big ugly red screen saying

Access to the page:

http://mail.google.com/mail/

... has been denied for the following reason:

Banned site: mail.google.com

You are seeing this error because what you attempted to access appears to contain, or is labeled as containing, material that has been deemed inappropriate.

If you have any queries contact your Network Manager.

Anyone know anything about DansGuardian or how to get around it? This is stupid because I'm trying to check my personal email for college application stuff and I enjoy downloading LEGAL music. What can I do?

Answer:Accessing blocked sites (legitimate ones)

Argh!!! Yahoo mail and Hotmail are also blocked. This is tyranny!!!!!!!!

This supposedly is in effect because the state dept. of education is blocking these sites for kids in a regular school... AKA they don't LIVE at school. My school is residential, but doesn't require tuition. So it's public and has to follow these same rules... Or atleast that is what I'm being told. Lies!

Hello ~ Recently, SuperAntiSpyware and Avira appear to be BLOCKED from accessing Internet to acquire updates. Scans w/ Avira, SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes found nothing.

When I attempt to run SuperAntiSpyware UPDATE function, I receive the error message: "There was an error trying to retrieve definitions. Make sure your firewall is not blocking SUPERANTISPYWARE.EXE from accessing the Internet."

Problem is not affected by turning Windows firewall OFF. No other firewall software is on the computer. Browsing / email works just fine.

I'd appreciate your assistance! Thank you for your work!

I'm not sure that I am posting this to the correct forum, so my apology if I haven't.

I want to access some Internet Radio Stations (specifically live sports broadcasts) that are blocked to users with IP addresses in countries other than the one from which the broadcast is being made.

I have found numerous websites that suggest there are ways of masking an IP address or using proxy websites to achieve this and some involve downloading and installing programs whilst others don't. Some options are free whilst others are not.

I have read one article that refers to 'toggling' from 'direct connection' to 'manual proxy.'

All of this is just gobblygook to me so I am hoping that some kind soul might explain what my options are in very simple non technical terms as well as the pros and cons of each of the options.

Many thanks.

I have this very annoying pop up that is trying ot highlight these problems on my system, but i know its a rogue virus that is trying ot get me to buy their antivirus software by pretending to be a legit warning.

I downloaded 'search & destroy' and it did a great job as it found other problems, but this problem keeps popping up and not allowing me to use the internet.

It comes up with other false problems too, and I have been to other sites that say to delete these ceratin files, but I havent got the skills for that, and I dont know where to look or how to delete them.

I am using windows 7 and its a Novateck tablet.

Be grateful if anybody can help with this one.

Hello,

I have an elderly, not very tech savvy friend whose Windows 10 Home laptop's internet access become restricted.  He was having a hard time installing some new software (not sure what it was), so I offered to remote in to help.  Windows assistance wouldn't let me in, so I had him run ipconfig to get his local address and had him change his internet IPv4 preferences to keep that local ip address (predicting that we would have to go into the router and do a port forward).  Since we couldn'g get access to the router (he didn't remember the pw and it wasn't the default), we bypassed the router and went straight to the modem.

Google search works, but links often don't.  I even had him try to access my personal ftp server, but the address doesn't resolve, even after trying to change his DNS servers to both OpenDNS and Google DNS.  He's located in another part of the country from me, so I don't have physical access to the computer, other than telling him what to do.
Here's what I've done:

1)  I was able to remote in when we plugged the laptop directly into the modem.  (He is normally wireless, but was behind a router's firewall that wouldn't let me through).  When I was there, I couldn't run Malwarebytes or Spybot  (clicking on them saw them pop up in the Task Manager, then nothing), so we rebooted into Safe Mode w/ Networking and I ran them and found nothing.  I also ran SFC, which said it found some... C:\Users\Application Data

Is Application Data another one of those "Junction Point" things?

I need access to application data to put back some of my trillian logs and other game data from XP.

Anyone know how or where its located.

Edit: Ohhhh okay its located in.... App Data now, right above Application data....

Is it safe to remove the Application Data folder link from c:\users\?

Id rather not have useless links in my folders.
Edit and yet another thing how do i get too cookies? The link in Users\ dont do nothing but say access denied.

Also Local Settings, How do i get to my temp files and Temp Internet files.

Answer:Accessing Application Data

In Windows 7, the AppData folder stores user settings. A folder called Application Data exists for backwards compatibility with XP.The Application Data folder is just a junction point folder to the AppData folder and is hidden. The only reason that it exists is to redirect legacy applications, that are hard coded to look for that folder, to the new location in Windows 7 i.e. the AppData\Local folder. So its not a useless link and should not be deleted.

To see cookies, click on Start button and in the search box, type "shell:Cookies" without quotes. To see your temporary internet files, type "shell:Cache". To access the temp folder, type "%tmp%".

Hey guys! I'm new here, I signed up because I reckon you might be able to help me out, so here goes!

Ive been running Messenger Plus! Live for quite a while now, its an add-on to Windows Live Messenger (im running 9.0BETA) but is still a separate application when it comes to programs & features.

Up until this morning it was running great, had been for a while, then it simply refuses to start with Messenger. I was about to uninstall and reinstall it using Progs & Features when I noticed that it's icon in the list has a small red circle with a line through it attached to the icon - a blocked icon?

I wonder what this means (since it could technically happen to anything else as well) and how I might go about rectifying the problem.

Hope you can help

James

Hi Everyone,

I have setup some monitoring software in an XP Virtual Application. More specifically I used the "Virtual Applications: The 'Invisible' Third Mode" method described here.

My challenge is that I need to access the applications database file, and save it to a location on the host computer. It seems to me that the only way to save files from the Virtual Application is through the program itself, and because the program hasn't been designed to save the database file (e.g.: there is no "File - Save DB" command) I am stuck.

If I had setup a Virtual Machine and then installed the software into it I would have the advantage of being able to access the guest file system, however I would not have been able to start my monitoring software whenever a user logs onto the computer.

Is there any way of accessing the host system of a Virtual Application?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

David

I'm using a Toshiba laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium with SP1.

A few days ago, my brother installed a bunch of programs on my laptop and downloaded some stuff. After that, my computer was running slowly during startup and programs would take minutes to initialize. I ran Malwarebyte's and found Adware.MyWebSearch, which I deleted. I also ran Spybot:S&D, which found nothing. I restarted the computer and it seemed to be working at normal speed again.

At the same time that my computer started running slowly, I also began getting a popup from my system tray saying something like "Some programs have been blocked at startup" and said to click to view them. Clicking did nothing so I right clicked the "Blocked startup programs" icon in my system tray and went to "Run blocked program". The only program listed there is "UpdateUtil Application".

When I go to "Show or remove blocked startup programs", I see that there's a program called "UpdateUtil Application" under the heading "Microsoft". It lists Microsoft as the publisher; however, it is not signed. There are no other programs under the "Microsoft" heading. All of the other Microsoft programs are under the "Microsoft Corporation" heading and are signed by "Microsoft Windows Verification PCA". It also says that it's "Permitted" even though it's claiming to be blocked.

But for some reason as soon as I open the application it is trying to connect to the internet to check for updates as it is supposed to do and it cannot reach the server it's trying to. Similarly if you try and manually update it this happens.

I have allowed it as an exception in Windows Firewall so other thought is it's something to do with my router settings. Any suggestions? I can't understand why this would be the case though because AVG, Spybot, Adaware etc etc have never given me a problem like this and I've never had to manually configure my router in any way (it's a fairly standard Netgear one.)

I tried installing the same software at work and it worked straight away, so clearly it is something to do with my setup at home. Sigh....

I contacted Bob's Books and they said they've never had this problem before. And with the best will in the world they are not techies.

Any suggestions greatfully received as the (new) wife is hassling me to get it sorted so she can sort the wedding and honeymoon pictures out. Whoever said married life would be all bliss....

thanks,
Jonathan

I think yesterday my Fuze upgraded or my Kaspersky 15.0 anti virus upgraded.
But today when starting Fuze I got the BSOD error. It happened again in quick successions when I tried to access my logitech web cam.

I am really not sure where the problems lies.

I am attaching my zip file as per instructions.

Please let me know what would be causing this issue and how can I fix it.

I have a Windows access control monitoring application that will only run on one PC (this is a limitation of the application). Currently it is running on Windows 7 but I am looking to move it to a windows 2012 Essentials server.
As only a single instance of the application can run, I would like multiple users to remote into the PC running the application and be able to see and interact with the single instance of the application.
Can anyone advise whether this is possible with or without a third party application?

HOWTOGEEK.COM - How to Block An Application from Accessing the Internet with Windows Firewall

Why Do I Want To Do This?

"Some of you might have been sold immediately by the headline, as blocking an application is exactly what you?ve been wanting to do. Others may have opened this tutorial curious as to why one would block an application in the first place.

Although you generally want your applications to have free access to the network (after all what good is a web browser that can?t reach the web) there are a variety of situations in which you may wish to prevent an application from accessing the network.

Some simple and commonplace examples are as follows. You might have an application that insists on automatically updating itself (but those updates break some functionality and you wish to stop the updates). You might have a video game that you?re comfortable with your child playing, but you?re not so comfortable with the online (and unsupervised) multiplayer elements. You might be using an application with really obnoxious ads that can be silenced by cutting off the application?s Internet access.

Regardless of why you want to drop the cone of network connectivity silence over a given application, a trip into the guts of the Windows Firewall is an easy way to do so. Let?s take a look at how to block an application from accessing the local network and Internet now."

I guess this thread is inspired partly by the current outrageous ransomware epidemic. Apologies in advance if a similar thread exists - I didn't find it.

First a bit of history - I used to have a single PC. On it was my personal stuff and I also used the PC to browse the internet and to access an email service. Then, a few years back, I had a bad experience which showed me how unsafe the internet is. My personal data was placed at risk, though not as badly as with ransomware.

But from that moment I always kept my personal stuff on a PC that never connects to the internet.

So what is the ideal hardware that you would use to access the internet ? How about a PC with no hard drive, plenty of RAM and a browser that loaded from ROM ? Every time you switch it off you guarantee that it's clean.

But you can't download anything useful to put on your regular PC, so it's pretty limited. To fix that, how about a flash drive that's not removable and its contents are wiped on every boot ? Maybe you could transfer files to anther removable medium.

People will have their own ideas about this and you're welcome to chip in and improve on what I've suggested. The final challenge is then to make it so that this ficticious machine can be implemented in a virtual environment on a real PC.

Food for thought in these outrageous times ... ?

Answer:Design the perfect hardware for accessing the internet

hi xerxespunk,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Please try changing the BIOS setting for the video back to Optimus or Switchable.
The UMA setting will disable the second video card and will only allow the use of the ONboard/Proc based INTEL HD.

Change that and try reinstalling the NVIDIA Driver again.

Letmen know your findings
Cheers!

Windows Firewall is not producing the alerts it should be. I'm getting no alerts at all
(Yes, it is switched to show alerts!)
Not that I really want them, but...

I found the audit warning in the event logs recurring many times -
"Windows Firewall was unable to notify the user that it blocked an application from accepting incoming connections on the network.
Error Code:2"

There are other alerts saying that - Windows Firewall is "marked as an interactive service. However, the system is configured to not allow interactive services. This service may not function properly."

I got the same message about the 'TrueVector Internet Monitor' while I had Zone Alarm running (which I had to uninstall because it wouldn't work). I was not getting alerts on that either.

Weird??

I've found nothing on the KB about this, or on any of those MS forums.

Any pointers anyone?

cheers,
Ian

Hi to everyone (and specially to johnwill),

I keep getting the message (from my firewall):

Application NDIS User mode I/O Driver has been blocked, File name is ndisuio.sys

I understand it is because I refused to let some application to access the Internet (When in doubt, abstain ).

Although it doesn't seem to affect anything, I'd like to understand what is a NDIS User mode I/O Driver before killing these (annoying) pop-up windows.

Thank you.

Hello experts - hope you all had a great and tasty Thanksgiving - but this one is a doozy:

I have a new Dell Optiplex 7010 MT with with 8GB RAM, a 500GB hard drive and an Intel Core i5-3470 CPU @ 3.20GHz ? this is a genuine quad core processor with hardware virtualization. I am dual booting Win 7 Pro 64-bit and Win 8 Pro 64-bit.

Also, I have BIOS A16 with the following settings:
Virtualization Support:
Virtualization ? Enable Intel Virtualization Technology is ON
VT for Direct I/O is Enabled ? ON
Trusted Execution is OFF

HOWEVER, in Win 7 Pro, I am getting ready to do XP Mode but when I first run the havdetectiontool.exe from Microsoft, it says ?Hardware-assisted virtualization is not enabled on this computer?.

Hardware virtualization should be working but something is blocking it ? and it?s some type of weird BIOS - hardware problem.

The MS havdetectiontool can create a detailed report - and I am pasting it below. BUT I HAVE ALREADY POWERED DOWN AND UP THE MACHINE MANY TIMES WITH THE ABOVE BIOS SETTINGS. Something is wrong. What is it?

This is the full report:

► More info --

The Optiplex 7010 is dual-boot. At the moment, I'm in my Win 8 Pro 64-bit OS. Its "System Information" shows the following four lines:

Hyper-V - VM Monitor Mode Extensions ... Yes
Hyper-V - Second Level Address Translation Extensions ... Yes
Hyper-V - Virtualization Enabled in Firmware ... Yes
Hyper-V - Data Execution Prevention ... Yes.

I am not familiar with Hyper-V, and I certainly didn't install it on my own. I don't know why there are any references to it. But, anyway, do these four lines mean anything?

Does the machine's DEP prevent the use of hardware virtualization?

Hello. My name is Extremeboy (or EB for short), and I will be helping you with your log.Can you try booting into Safe Mode and see if you can run GMER successfully? How to Boot into Safe ModeI suggest you read over the instructions on how to boot into Safe Mode and then print these instructions out or save them in Notepad because you won't have access to this page while in Safe Mode.Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:Restart the computer. As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.Use your arrow keys to navigate and highlight Safe Mode.Hit Enter. You will now be asked to choose your operating system. Again, use the arrow keys to select Microsoft Windows XP.Hit Enter.Your computer will proceed to booting into Safe Mode. During the boot process, you may see random code go past your screen. Simply wait for it to pass. Your computer should boot like usually, except with Safe Mode written in the corners of your screen. Your screen may also appear to be a different size because the video drivers are not loaded properly in Safe Mode. After the boot, you will be asked whether you wish to use system restore, or to continue to Safe Mode. Select OK to choose Safe mode.Additional instructions on booting into Safe Mode can be found here

Ok, my turn to ask for help. I bet its something really simple too but I can't figure it out.

I suspected Chrome at first because it happened a couple of times before but was ok in Firefox. Now I'm getting the same in IE and in Firefox the icons flash on the screen and then dissappear.

Headers appear ok on all other sites so I presume its TSF related somehow.

I've updated Java and Flash Player but it hasn't helped.

Any ideas anyone?

Hi:

My colleague brought me his computer. Apparently, he uninstalled AVG and at some point installed Malware Defense. I've deleted all traces of Malware Defense from the registry and unregistered the associated dlls but I cannot successfully install AVG9--the installation always fails due to not responding in a timely fashion. I can install Spybot 1.62 but it won't launch in either regular nor safe mode. Likewise I can install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware but it won't respond.

Any ideas?

I am trying to run a DOS application on a new Presario hardware platform without much success.  I have tried to run it as a DOS session in XP and also a pure DOS session under DOS 6.22.  The program displays the same problems in both situations.   The main problem appears to be that data gets written to the wrong files or gets written as a blank. Any ideas???

Answer:DOS application on new hardware

Probably best, though not easiest way, is to create a small separate partition on the drive and install MSDOS there. You can do this using something like Partition Magic. The main problem I can foresee is that the DOS partition would need to be the primary so I'm not too sure how this would be handled by PM.  I'm sure there must be some sites around with help on this subject - MSDOS users are a tough bunch

I am currently trying to get the specs of a base unit which has had the hard disk removed. From what I understand, I should be able to do this by booting up as normal, and watching the screen...The monitor I am trying to use has DVI and VGA ports (and I've got both types of cables). Graphics card is radeon 8600 series as far as I remember, and has both types of connectors too.The problem is that whilst I'm hearing the appropriate single beep from the base unit (which suggests the bios is working fine), I'm not getting anything on the monitor (it says no signal)...but I usually don't get a signal with this monitor until I get to windows (even with my more up to date base unit).Does anyone have ideas as to what I could try/which connection might be best to use, etc? I do also have a laptop - is there any way I could connect that up and get the specs, bearing in mind there's no hard disk in the old base unit?Is there anything I could do with the floppy disks I've got lying around if it's a monitor driver issue? (really grasping at straws here). Thanks for any help!flicb

At work here, we have a lot of computers. Hundreds of them. A lot of them are different. Some of them aren't that easy to find drivers for. Some of them aren't even labeled properly. On top of that, some of them on HP and Dell's site have about 47 options for video drivers, another 39 options for network drivers, and so on.

I hate this. A lot. It makes me want to leap off a bridge.

I have Belarc Advisor. I also have a full blown edition of Sandra Pro. But without drivers installed, these programs don't seem to detect... anything.

Is there an application out there that can detect hardware regardless of what Windows 2000 Pro/XP Pro recognize it as? It would speed up my job 100%.

Hi,

could you please tell me the what should be the specifications of a machine on which i can host
a Java Struts Web application? we will be using Apache Tomcat Server and MYSQL(database).

It will be accessed by maximum 5 users,
has 2 dynamic pages accessing 3 to 4 MySql tables(having less than 10 columns each), and
interfaces with an email server.

i need the following information(we will be using windows):

1) Processor and speed
2) RAM
3) Hard disk space required
4) How many partitions of hard disk is needed and space to be allocated for each partition
5) should it be 32 bit or 64 bit(if i go in for 64 bit OS, will it support 32 bit applications -tomcat,mysql,web application developed on 32 bit machine)?

thanks,

Answer:Hardware requirement for hosting web application

Definitely 64bit, or you won't be able to utilize more than 4GB of RAM, moreover I think last Windows x86 server OS was Server 2008, pretty old in computer years.
You should probably get separate SSD for OS and store data on separate drive (not partition), if possible.
RAM is cheap today, so few extra Gigs shouldn't hurt your wallet.
Most of recent server CPUs should handle your loads fine.

Hello there,

A couple of days ago, something rather curious happened to my laptop (running Windows XP Pro). For no discernable reason, an error message is displayed after startup, saying "this application failed to initialise properly 0xc0000005". The application it is referring to is L-Express, a bilingual dictionary application. I have used this application daily for about 6 months with no problems until now.

Also, my Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection failed to work.

I did a system restore several times to earlier dates. This enabled me to connect to the Internet as per normal, but the Intel Wireless icon is no longer present in the systray, and nor can the wireless application programme be launched from the Start menu. The L-Express (and related Lexibase) application still refuses to launch.

I have run two antivirus checks (AVG and Avast) and some antispyware checks (MS Defender, Spybot S+D and AdAware SE).

Unless anyone more knowledgeable than myself has an idea how to fix this, I shall have to resign myself to a full C: format and Windows reinstallation, which doesn't sound like a lot of fun.

Howdy. Ever since I upgraded my rig (HD 6870 + new case) a little less than a year ago (back when the 6870 was first released), I have been having major problems. One thing has snowballed into another, and seeing as how these problems have occured over such a long amount of time, I will try to give the most details as I can for as far back as I can remember.

So this time roughly a year or less ago, I was needing to upgraded by rig. Most notably, I wanted to upgrade my aging Nvidia 9600 GT. I went ahead and purchased an HD6870, only to find it was a but long for my case by maybe 1/4th of an inch. I preceded to buy a new tower, only to find that I was getting occasional graphical issues with the card in some games (specifically, I would be playing the game, then the game would freeze, a black screen with white jagged lines would appear, the sound would studder rapidly, then the game would show the desktop but still be open, that is even though I was staring at my desktop, I could hear sounds/move around).

I did a lot of searching/asking around and was told my 450w power supply likely did not do the job correctly. So I upgraded to a 750w power supply, only to find a very weird error where the power supply would not turn on/off with the system. I asked around and on some forums and was told a faulty power supply was at fault. I then got another, considerably more expensive 700w power supply but the problem persisted.

I have tried damn near everything and I am beginning... Read more

Answer:Weird Application Crashes/Hardware Issues

You may wanna whip out HWMonitor and check voltages. If you see any deviation beyond 5% either way for the positive rails (like 4.75~5.25 for +5V rail), then you got a problem. Best to check this during gameplay when the system is stressed. If voltage readouts are available on your BIOS, you should check those too to get a baseline for how your power is fairing. If even the baseline is skewed, then you can bet your bottom dollar it's the PSU. Also, what brand is the PSU?

The TDR resets on your video card that you're experiencing (driver failed and successfully recovered) means your video card or drivers did not respond in a designated time frame, and Windows tried to kick it back into shape by refreshing the drivers. This is usually a hardware prob, as the driver will not do anything as it's waiting for a response from your video card, hence triggering TDR.

I resolved the driver issue, and Diablo 3 plays like a champ, however the game that originally caused the driver crash, which lead to a few BSODs, was SWTOR.exe. Launcher.exe that updates the game files and handles authentication works fine, and it goes through the file integrity check, but it stops at 100% and "Play" is greyed out. My guess is that launcher.exe tries to run swtor.exe and the OS prevents it from launching. This is a pain in the ass.

Most of the research I've seen with "blocked apps" or EXEs relates to SmartScreen, not a driver issue. I've checked the file properties, the Task Manager, and other seemingly logical locations, but I can't find where to unblock the EXE. It's an 18+GB download, so reinstalling is the nuclear option.

File manager crashes on my Dell Precision 470 when accessing graphics files.

Would appreciate any ideas, feedback or solutions.

Background:
Dell Precision 470
Xeon CPU 2.8GHz
1 GB of RAM
XP Professional 2002 Service Pack 3
Two hard drives

A sub folder contains 20 or so jpegs, all of which may 1-2 MBs in size. I double click on the My Computer icon, drill down into the sub folder, say 3 levels down, and the file manager window crashes. Sometimes if continue to do this the window continues to crash and eventually takes me out of Active Desktop mode. My workaround is to copy the folder to that or another drive at the root level, for example, and access the files that way. This usually happens with graphics files of moderate to large size in subfolders.

Answer:File manager crashes on my Dell Precision 470 when accessing graphics files

You might have 1 or more corrupted files.
Do this first to prevent the crash
1. Click Start > Run and type regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll and click OK.
2. Click Start > Run and type regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll and click OK.
3. Delete or move the file that is corrupted.

My suggestion is to move the 20 files to 10 different folders. You will be trying to isolate the file or files causing the crash so you can delete that file.
After you have 2 files in each folder (put them on your desktop so you can view them easily) you want to re-register what you undid in steps 1 and 2 above.
1. Click Start > Run and type regsvr32 shimgvw.dll and click OK.
2. Click Start > Run and type regsvr32 shmedia.dll and click OK.

Now try to open each of the 10 folders and see which one causes a crash.

I have just done a fresh install of Windows 10 on an Inspiron 17 and want to update drivers. I go to the Dell support web site and want to start the automatic system detection. The result is an error page saying: "Error: 500 Server Error. Application Init Error. We are unable to display the requested page."
Then I enter my service tag. Here, the result is that the service tag is not found (I am paraphrasing a Japanese message).
Perhaps there is a problem with the Japanese web site? I go to the front page at dell.com and change the country to USA. After a moment, the same Japanese front page is displayed again.
Any suggestions what I can do to update the drivers?

Hi,
Thank you for writing to us!
There could a technical issue or a brief maintenance on the Dell support website. We would be glad to help you with the drivers and the link. Kindly private message the service tag and email address.
