Brand new 13 inch Spectre x360 trackpad loose

Question: Brand new 13 inch Spectre x360 trackpad loose

Just got the 13 inch HP Spectre x360. Latest model with the pen (2017). What a beautiful machine. Love this thing. BUT, the trackpad is completely horrendous. Has a rattle when you even touch it lightly. Annoying. Is this a common problem? I don't want to keep exchanging this laptop if i'll just get another one with this issue. Is anyone else having this issue with the 2017 model. Is it an easy fix? I dont want to return this thing, but, I just might. I come from an Apple Macbook Air. That was the best trackpad I've ever used. This trackpad isn't even close to that. Everything else about this laptop is awesome. Any comments would be helpful in making a decision here.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I got a brand new13 inch HP Spectre X360 on August 24. I really wanted this laptop over the Mac because I felt it was lighter than a Pro, more powerful than an Air, had a great display, plus was more vessatile than the two due to its rotation capability. To my disappointment, I quickly found out the trackpad seemed loose (you could feel a slight rattle by lightly pressing down the middle). 15 days later, I exchanged it at Best Buy only to find, low and behold, my new one having the same exact issue with the trackpad. Not only that, but I feel that even the screen hinge is ever so slightly loose. Not that it moves in laptop, tent, or presentation mode -- but when I type quick I feel the screen shake just a tiny bit. Moreover, when in tablet mode, the two halves of the computer (the screen and back of the keyboard underneath it) don't stick together. They pry apart about an inch. I called HP and they said it could be my particular local Best Buy bought a bad bunch or something? I did see other threads on here with people complaining about the trackpad, and some have suggested that there are some 'malfunctioned' unitss and that if one were to keep exchanging, they would eventually get a good one. I also have slight cackling of speakers without headphones when playing music. So should I exchange for a second time? Would Best Buy be upset -- do they have a limit on this sort of thing? And if it helps, I have the three year warranty/Geek Squad tech support package... Read more

After I have been using spectre x360 for a couple weeks, I noticed that the hinge is quite loose particularly at 90 to 180 degrees. And I can wobble it at some point without using any force. Moreover, when I hold the base while the screen is more than 90 degrees and shake the notebook a little bit, the screen will bend far to the back. It looks like the hinge is too loose and can not hold the weight of the screen. Is there any way to tighten it?Thanks.

Hi, I bought my HP Spectre x360 on February 1st, 2016. In the past few weeks I have noticed that both hinges have become loose and pull away from the lower portion of the computer. I am worried it will break completely in the next few months. I tried going to the support page on the HP website but contantly get a 404 error when I select my computer model. This was a large purchase for me and I am not happy that this premium product is having hardware issues in less than a year.

The left hand hinge on my wife's HP Spectre X360 is loose. It looks like the right hand hinge is taking most of the weight and the screen leans slightly as a result of this. It has been like this for a number of months, but is starting to get worse. Unfortunately, I didn't report it previously and the warranty ran out just over 2 weeks ago. My concern is that not only is the left hand hinge getting looser, the additonal weight on the right hand hinge will lead excessive wear and the risk that this hinge will fail as well. is there any way HP will repair the faulty hinge, as it appears to be a known issue.

Hi,So recently i started noticing that my hinge on my spectre was loose. Whilst i decided to try look past the issue and use the laptop normally, over the past couple of days the issue has magnified and i have noticed that it is at the point that when my laptop is closed. The screen doesn't align with the base.I haven't dropped it, nor have i excessively open and closed the lid or even for that matter used the 360 degrees tablet function.I am still well within my warranty and was interested in seeing as to what my options are, given the amount i spent on the laptop.Regards,Dylan

Hello, I am very interested in purchasing an HP Spectre x360 laptop; however, I have been waiting for several months in hopes for the 15.6 inch version to become available in the Ash Silver color. Currently, only the 13.3 inch Spectre comes in Ash Silver (which is a brown color with gold accent designs). I have contacted HP sales representatives and unfortunately they are not privy to this information. They did state that they've received a large volume of inquiries and interest in this specific Ash Silver laptop color, so it seems like more people than just myself would like to see other laptop options available in this color combination. If there are plans to manufacture the 15.6 inch HP Spectre laptop in the Ash Silver color in the near future, could you please let me know? I desperately need a new laptop but have been holding out until the 15.6 inch Spectre x360 is available in the Ash Silver color I want. I'd rather not continue waiting if there is no chance the larger laptop will be produced in this color. Thank you for reviewing this question.

Greetings, I just bought the HP spectre x360 with the i7 processor, and I've tried over 100 times to register a right click on the trackpad and it has failed to do every single time. I have read several articles complaning about the width being the problem to the right click, but mine has failed to register. period. I went into the control panel to try to disable it then enable once again in hopes to it working, but nothing has changed. I have only been able to register a "right click" by holding down on the touchscreen which is fairly inconvienent. I would like to see this problem fixed because I do enjoy everything else about this laptop, but that is a major flaw for me. Thank you.

I purchased a Spectre x360 almost two years ago (Sept. 2015) and the laptop worked fine. After about two months, I noticed the hinges did not line up as cleanly but the laptop still opened, closed and folded back without issue. I recently opened my laptop and noticed that the right hinge is shaky and that the screen wobbles a lot because of it. This seems to be a purely physical issue as I "pop" the hinge back into place and it secures. While the screen is still shaky, I am less worried about it this way. I have never dropped my laptop, haven't travelled with it and it sits flat on my desk 99% of the time. How should I proceed? Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi,  I have had my spextre for just over a year now. About 6 months or so ago I started to notice the screen wobble a little more, I played it off as nothing. Not so long ago I notice the left hinge is loose, and that is the source of the wobble on the screen. It seems as though the left hinge can be pushed in towards the laptop a couple of mm signlalling to me it is not properly secured. Is there a fix for this? TIA!

I recently purchased the new 15 inch x360 that is being sold by Bestbuy, model # 15-BL012DX.  The store did not have a display model to get some hands-on time with and I have not used other HP devices but I have noticed that the tension in the space bar is different from the rest of the keys on the keyboard. I am wondering if anyone knows if this is normal for HP  devices or if this is a defect in my computer and it will need to be returned/exchanged.   While it is not unpleasant when typing I am afraid that if this is not normal that the space bar will be more likely to break after limited use.   I look forward to hearing back from anyone regarding this issue.  Thank you.

Hi people.I have been wanting to charge my 2016 spectre x360 (15 inch) laptop with a usb charger since i bought it. I know hp sell a usb charger that should work but i want to use an aftermarket one. Mainly because i want to use a 2 pin power cord so that i can use a folding uk plug with it. (UK plugs are chunky for those that don't know). Also would like the option to charge from any compatible usbc charger i come across along with battery banks etc) I know the 13 inch model got a bios upgrade last year to fix this but even though i did a bios update on mine i cant get my charger to work. Its an Anker A2053 USB-C power delivery power port thing. nothing happens when i plug it in. not even an error message. i have the bios upgrade for this from the 26th october 2016, there is nothing newer that i can see. has anyone got this model working with an aftermarket usbc charger? cheers Rob

Like so many posters here, I am now a among the ranks of those complainants that active pen Stylus will NOT work with this model.  HP.  Is there a simple answer, a a clear declarative sentence, for this reported problem by many, many buyers? Frustrating things more is a call to tech support. 1st call:. " I can confirm no pen Stylus will work with your model.". Then, "Checking further literature, only three models of touchscreen HP computers are compatible with a stylus". Next call to tech support on a hunch no two answers will be same.  This time, "Oh, yes.  I can confirm all touchscreen models are compatible with pen sylus". Me:. "No, don't worry.  It is compatible".  Me: "When "Pen and Touch menu is accessed in control panel, only provision shosing as active is 'touch', not pen.  Does this mean drivers are needed or not activated unless stylus contacts the screen".  Answer, "Yes". Me: "Which is it".  Answer:. "Both".  "Let me transfer you to pre-sales which will have more details on your particular model".  Pre-sales:. "Why are you calling pre-sales", in father-to-idiot" lecture. Me:. I am buying the HP Spectre x360 and need to know if its trackpad can be turned off, such as with an F (function) key press.   Using the unit in laptop mode with a mouse, I will not want to use the trackpad and my hands will otherwise touch the touchpad and move the cursor all over the place as I type.  My current laptop has an option F4 key to disable the 'internal pointing device' (the trackpad) but I want to know if the Spectre x360 has such an option.  I will be getting my machine with WIN 10 pre-installed.  Thanks.

Does anybody know when HP is going to sort out the trackpad issues on the Spectre x360??? I have had two different Spectre x360 machines and both have been rife with trackpad problems, one went away for "repairs" and came back the same. Problems inclue 3 finger swipe up/down to show/close open windows not working, finger side swipes not working to switch between windows, tap to click unresposive and sometimes even mouse click opens notification center rather than what you click on!!! The trackpad on this "premium model" functions worse than a basic trackpad on a netbook. And beforesomeone from  HP comments to turn off and on again, no that doesn't work, settings have been checked and all the gestures are set on, and yes all drivers are up to date. So seriously HP, when are you going to sort it out???

I recently bought a HP spectre x360 15'' touch screen laptop from best buy. Within 2 months of my usage , while opening the laptop last week, the screen got cracked from the centre . This was totally unexpected. Just by opening the laptop , the screen has a crack in it. I have found several people with the same issue. Also , the hinges of the laptop are way too loose. The screen looks a bit slant . I have found this issue common with alot of people. This is not the problem. I have been to bestbuy , given my laptop for repair. They are charging me $514 for it. This is extremely expensive , given that the laptop cost is around 1000$. The screen repair costs me $514 which is way out of my budget. I dont think this is done and fair. I am ready to spend a bit of money for repairing it even while considering the poor design of this laptop which i realize now , after using it for a while. I cant spend half the laptops cost on only my screens repair. Please look into the matter and give some positive feedback. This has been dragged way too much and its urgent as per my situation.

Was a new version of the Kaby Lake 13.3 Spectre x360 convertible released around April 2017 that supports the stylus? I have an original Kaby Lake 13.3 x360 purchased Feb 2017 and couldn't get the active stylus to work. Tech support said that the 13t-wx00 product W9A93AV doesn't support the stylus. Now I see that a stylus is furnished free with what appears to be the exact computer I purchased. I have been unable to get an answer from technical support as we have difficulties communicating. Does anyone know if the stylus is supported on my Spectre? I returned my original HP active stylus after tech support said they don't work even though the advertising at the time showed people using a stylus. Now they are giving one away free and I don't understand???? Can I update my convertible to work with the stylus? It's frustrating as I purchased the unit thinking the stylus would work and now feel cheated! I guess that's what I get for buying a brand new product.

Hi everyone,  I'm having problems with my brand new HP Spectre trackpad. It seems like a 30% of the taps i do (not clicks)  are not received by the trackpad, so I have to repeat the tap. This issue mostly comes up with the one-finger-tap, whereas with the double finger tap it is less frequent. When i check for possible available new drivers i'm told the drivers of the Synaptic pointing device are perfectly updated to the latest version, but as far as i've been reading online this is a common issue between Spectre owners, therefore I don't think it's an hardware problem. Is there something i can do to fix it? I really like this Notebook but this issue is very frustrating. Thank you.

Hi there, I am having an issue with my touch pad on the spectre x360 where if I try to make slight movements (i.e. a very small swipe or movement of the cursor) the cursor automatically snaps back to the position it was in before I touched the pad.  This makes precision extremely difficult because I have to make a larger swipe and then bring the cursor back around to what I want to click on in order for it to not snap back.   I have updated all the drivers for the system and I have tried cycling on and off most of the Synaptics settings to no avail.   I performed a screen capture so you can see the snapping I am talking about (it is a little hard to see because the screen capture is low fps).  http://screencast.com/t/mBEJCmmWge6 Does anyone have any suggestions for this?  It is extremely annoying and would greatly appreciate any help!

Just bought the new 4k 13 inch spectre x360. So far it has been great, except that I am getting nowhere near the advertised battery life. I have already researched these forums, and read the tips located here - http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c00596784 - and here (translated from Spanish to English) - http://h30467.www3.hp.com/t5/Consejos-de-Expertos-para-notebooks/Consejos-de-mantenimiento-de-Bater%... - and nothing has helped.  In just 2 hours of up time with the screen set to 50% or less, I reached 20% battery remaining. This was only with web browsing and some office processses such as email and Microsoft Word. Do I have a bad battery, or is the battery life overall just not as good (or even close to) advertised? The laptop is less than 30 days old.

By far the best laptop I've had thus far, but now it is having a major issue with the touchpad. Aside from the below trackpad issues, coil whine and fan that likes to spin up even when doing basic tasks, I quite like the new Spectre x360. Issue 1: When using the entire trackpad as a click, the cursor will sometimes move just before I actually click down, which is something I never experienced on my MacBook Air's trackpad. This results in either missing what I originally wanted to click, or clicking on something entirely different. Issue 2: Two-finger scrolling doesn't work in the bottom 20% of the trackpad. I can use two fingers in that area, but scrolling won't actually start until I get towards the middle of the trackpad. So, until I hit that area, it'll just be single-finger pointing. Given the trackpad's wider than it is tall, this can become a problem. I tried messing around with the dated-looking Synaptics settings program, but couldn't get anything to help. Maybe it'll get better with time on its own? Otherwise, hopefully software updates will fix it...

Great laptop, put it through a lot of testing in my first weekend of owning it and I'm quite pleased overall. This issue has nothing to do with the laptop itself but rather the included sleeve, which I'm also pleased was included as other brands/models I checked out did not include a sleeve. However... it smells really awful.  I mean it's really an exceptionally terrible rubbery type odor.  And it's not as if it's only when I put my nose up to it or even handle it.  It can just be sitting a few feet away from me and I smell it.  I tried washing it by hand, figuring it's just an extreme example of factory chemicals or materials not being completely washed away before packaging.  This act may have reducded the smell by 20-25%, but the stench was still very noticeable so I put it through a wash in the washing machine.  Again, it's possible it's reduced the smell down to 50% of what it started as, but it's still pretty ridiculous how bad this thing smells. Has anyone had the same experience?  Have you had better luck in removing the smell?  I'm sure someone will suggest that it's free and maybe not worth the effort and therefore to just look into a different sleeve but I like it aside from the odor and would like to be able to keep it for some extra protection / padding even once I decide on a method for carrying the device around if possible.  But it will not be worth it if I can't get rid of the odor.

Hello, I purchased a new spectre x360, w013dx model number, from best buy on Feb 11 2017 and I seem to be having an issue that has popped up on this forum, YouTube, and various other Google searches, namely the loose, or more appropriately, the overly noisy and clicky touchpad. I am wondering A) is this a condition that becomes worse, progressively that is, or does it get better over time as the touch pad and other components get "broken in" so to speak, and mate together better, like using lapping compound on machine parts? B) If this is considered an issue, is there a fix for it if I send it in to HP? It is moderately bothersome to me, and in haven't really experienced it before on other laptops. I really like to use the 2 and 3 finger swipes and scroll features, and when I push down on the touchpad without clicking it, it feels loose and there is an audible click when I press down on it. I am coming from and Acer laptop that had an extremely smooth and oversized glass track pad so I may be overly aware because I got used to that one and it was very solid. I do not want to return it and plan to keep it because otherwise it is fantastic, but I have seen other people say this and I will echo it here, this is a 1200 to 1400 dollar device and  I want to make sure it is in peak condition because I plan to keep it for at least 2 to 3 years. If someone from HP could respond I would appreciate it. Thank you.

However it DOES NOT detect any external monitor except the built-in in the "graphics properties" -"select display". But when I connect to my old lenovo laptop, it picks up the same setting ( TV via HDMI ) straight away I have double checked all windows / Hp updates all latest ; go back and give a few tries and still no-go. Please help as to say the least i am very dissapointed  of HP for such a high-end work machine. The audio has been buzzy and scratchy but not crucial, whereas HDMI is for any presentation etc. Thanks for your help.

Answer:HDMI not working on brand new HP Spectre x360

Hi @melfes?, Thank you for your query.  I grasp that you are having a difficulty connecting a TV via HDMI to your notebook. You have done all your Windows updates and ran the HPSA.  Here is a link to the HP Spectre x360 - 13-4007tu Software and Driver page to manually check that you have all the updated drivers and the latest bios update. Here are two links that may also be of aid. HP Notebook PCs - Connecting a Monitor, Projector, or TV (Windows 10, 8) HP Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS. A bios update does have the potential to cause damage. I suggest contacting HP support for assistance with that process. Please contact HP support at Contact HP Support. Please let me know the outcome. Thank you  for participating in the HP Forums! Hey all! I just bought a brand new HP Spectre x360 13-t touch OLED display in ash silver (specifically the P3A84AV) with 8GB RAM and 256 solid state drive. 6th gen intel i7 running Windows 10. Just after purchasing this I came across a forum posted back in February that discussed the fact that the Spectre computers say they are stylus compatible, but really they do not come with the correct software or firmware (I can't recall which) needed to respond to a stylus. In fact, you must uninstall something and then install a different firmware in order to add the compatibility. My question is: Is this still the case with the new Spectres, or has HP fixed this? If it arrives and is not compatible, does anyone know the steps needed to add compatibility? Stylus compatibility was a HUGE selling point for me here... Thanks much for all your help!

I just got a new HP Spectre x360 - 13-4005dx and it works quite well EXCEPT that the screen regular goes black for a moment and then flashes back on. Typically black for a fraction of a second--maybe a second or two at most.  HUGELY FRUSTRATING. I have gone through and updated all of the drivers. Any idea? thanks, joel

That doesn't seem normal, and you should just get an exchange. If you got it at Best Buy, it should be a quick exchange (if they're in stock).

What's the difference between the HP Spectre x360 and the HP Envy x360? They both look the same. The only noticeable difference is that HP Spectre x360 has a Radiance Infinity display, while HP Envy x360 has an IPS display. Having the same specs, except for the display, why is the Spectre x360 more expensive than the Envy x360 ? Moreover, I thought that IPS is better than TN, which is my guess that is the technology used for the Radiance Infinity.

Answer:HP Spectre x360 vs HP Envy x360

Hi, You've got few questions about those products. Well, come to a store and yoy can see the differences. Better still, you can buty 2 machines and compare.  For build quality, the HP Spectre x360 is much better than the Envy x360 you can also find Pavilion x360 - we are talking about SPECS and BUILD here about plastics and metals about wood and gold. Regards.

I've just bought myself one of those amazingly priced economy Windows 8.1 8 inch tablets from a Chinese manufacturer. I'm quite pleased with it apart from the fact I find using the desktop more than a little fiddley due to the size of the screen. The question I want to throw out to everyone is, does anybody know of an 8 inch Bluetooth v4.0 keyboard with a trackpad for the cursor?

Answer:8 inch bluetooth keyboard with trackpad?

I highly doubt those exist.
I have a 7-8" tablet keyboard for mine and its pretty dinky, and there's little space for a trackpad.
now if there's a pointing stick and buttons, I'd like to see that actually.
but I haven't seen any to date

Dear All:   I called in a service request for fixing my X1C's loose trackpad.  i have what many have witnessed: that the front edge (entire front edge) of the trackpad is loose, and can maybe be pressed down 2-3 mm roughly with minimal pressure, while the rear of the trackpad is properly secured. a part was shipped to me (unknown to me till it arrived) which is a thin keyboard with everything BUT the keypad, so it looks like a wafer thin keyboard with all the keys minus the entire area where the trackpad would have fit. my understanding (just a guess but an educated guess as i've been following these fora often) is that some part on the trackpad had been bent incorrectly, hence the lack of a proper grip or leaf spring type of pressure was improperly applied in the front portion of my trackpad, hence the looseness. my concerns: the guy who called to offer to come for at-home service call was very nice on the phone, but, when i asked if he has ever worked on this issue (loose trackpad on the X1C), he wouldn't answer.  when i asked if he's worked on an X1C, he also wouldn't give me a straight answer.  all he said was that he has been doing this for 12 years. granted, he does sound nice on the phone, i.e. a gentle person as opposed to someone yelling gruffly, the fact that he's never opened an X1C gives me concern.  this can't be a good thing that he's learning on my X1C!! furthermore, i'm doubtful that the part they sen... The touchpad seems to be a bit loose. When you put your finger on it, it moves down about 0.5mm. This might not seem like a lot of movement but it's still enough to be annoying. And you also hear a dim click sound when you put your finger to it when the touchpad "hits" the surface below it - which is especially noticable when 'tapping to click'. Is this enough reason for to use the warranty to get the laptop repaired? The video below illustrates my problem exactly on another model of laptop, in my case it's not nearly as severe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfN752lZ8rY Any advise on what to do? I don't want to be picky but this is a really annoying problem for me, makes the laptop feel like it's made badly and I can't ignore it.  The laptop is only a couple of days old.

i just got may laptop back from repair, and while they were replacing the keyboard and usb ports (why i sent it in in the first palce) they also replaced the trackpad for some reason (but didnt list it on the list of things they replaced) i went from having an elan mousepad to this edtware ps/2? mousepad. its confusing because the edtware ps/2 driver is listed under the mousepointer tab labeled "elan". the problem is even though i have it set to go as fast as the pointer option window allows me to set it the point will only move two inches max. i thought maybe downloading and installing the drivers lenovo has availible might fix the problem, and it did, but not without causing a new problem. with the drivers installed the mouse pointer has issue with making fine movements, things like trying to close a window are painfully annoying as the pointer is repelled off the target only to sit right next to it.  disableing the "tap tp click" option helps a little but doesnt get rid of the problem. i had 0 issue with the trackpad before i sent it to be repaired, and now with this new craptacular im not sure if its a software issue causing me all this frustration or if its the trackpad itself.

Hi,  Hopefully someone can shed some light on this issue. I purchased an HP Spectre 32-inch 4K display off of Kijiji (similar to craigslist) and it was working flawlessly for about 2 weeks. Now, every so often it will flash a black or multi-colored strip on a random portion of the screen. I've tried with, and without my graphics card, and have completely updated the onboard graphics on my PC as well so I doubt it is an issue with my computer. Has anyone else come across this issue before? I've attempted to look up the monitors serial and model number to see if it is in warranty but a different product appears when I enter it on the hp website (perhaps this is a replacement monitor I purchased off of someone without knowing?)

I bought two of these laptops (Acer E5-471P CI3 4GB 500GB 14 Inch Touch Laptop - Black. - (http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2903332.htm) as christmas presents. Both are having issues with the trackpad where it will randomly freeze or the pointer will disappear. At first my mother thought it was just being slow and freezing all the time. I had a look and found that the touch screen worked fine when the mouse froze or disappeared. Now, immediately I assumed it to be a driver issue, so I updated the trackpad driver.  I can't find any info on this and even though I bought the week before christmas ACER are saying my warrenty has run out and I don't have the time to find a scanner to scan my receipt. I am a day or two away from returning this laptop if no solution can be found. This freezing happens ALOT, to the point my mother is using the 4 year old dusty laptop with missing keys. I assume it's something to do with the touchscreen and the trackpad interfering with one another. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi guys & gals,

I've had this L775-11F since Christmas, and I've noticed on occasion that the screen seems to lose some clarity, and go a little pale. It's nothing to do with the screen dimming when the backlight reduces to save power, as I can be typing when it happens. I've found that moving the hinge back and then forth again to the same angle corrects it, so I'm wondering if there's a problem with the electrical connection on the screen. Anyone else had that?

My power cable also seems to have a mind of its own, and will slowly eject itself even if there's no-one using it. Is this something that happens a lot? This is my first Tosh, and it's mighty annoying, as I can't guarantee a full charge of the battery, or use the laptop safely without the battery installed, as the thing just switches off when the power cable gets far enough out.

Finally, I have noticed that the trackpad surface is showing a lot of wear for a 6 month old laptop. The centre has become black and shiny. Looks a bit shabby for a laptop that's almost new.

D'ya think that any or all of these issues are worth contacting warranty/tech support over? The screen is the biggest worry, because if that goes over the 1 year, I'm goosed, even though it's been an issue since the laptop was a few months old. The problem is that it's an intermittent issue, which is difficult if not impossible to replicate at will. It's only happened 4 or 5 times so far, but it's a concern.

TIA

Definitely. Your notebook should work properly and I think you should not waste your time discussing but contact nearest Toshiba service provider, explain the situation and ask for help.

Let them check your notebook and do whatever must be done. Notebook has valid warranty and let Toshiba service people do their job and help you to have well working notebook.

I have just purchased the HP Spectre x360 13-4193dx. I have been looking forward to getting this laptop for a few weeks, but I am having a lot of annoyances with this laptop? The biggest mistake may have been purchasing this laptop ?HP authorized? refurbished. Upon arrival I updated all the drivers, ran HP assistant, and let windows update. I am looking for feedback and advice from fellow Spectre owners to see if I can get this laptop to a satisfactory condition. Here is a list of some of the problems I have encountered: This trackpad is almost unusable for me. I wish to move the cursor with one finger, then click using my other hand?s finger, but the trackpad goes into two-finger scrolling mode and rejects the click. I can click with one hand, but for rapid tasks I would like to be able to click as if there was a true button. I?ve explored all the trackpad options, and there appears to be no way to correct this. Furthermore, the trackpad seems to completely ignore clicking frequently. I can try keep trying to click and nothing will happen. The keyboard seems to stick when the buttons haven?t been pressed in a while. Especially the tab, control, shift, and space bar. There is an extremely loud snap/crunch when these buttons are pressed for the first time, after which they remain quiet. This is quite embarrassing. Question: HP Spectre x360

New owner of HP Spectre x360 - 13-4003dx here. I want to ask if the bottom of the laptop, the area above the fan openings where the FCC info/text lies, is supposed to creak when I press it slightly. I first heard this noise when I took my laptop out of the sleeve and held that area. At first I thought it was just rubbing against the sleeve, but after further examination, that is not the case. If this occurs with other models of the Spectre, it is a bad build quality, I am not sure which component is under there, but I want to know if the creaking noise is normal with only a slight press along the text area. Thanks.

Question: HP Spectre x360

Hi, I have an HP Spectre x360 that is a year and 5 months old. I was running it off the battery when suddenly a whole lot of smoke started coming from underneath the notebook and a smell of burnt plastic filled the air. Reading the forum I found that this is not something new to these HP Spectre x360 notebooks. Its it really possibile that HP have not activated a support program for who owns such an expensive notebook. My notebook is out of warrenty but I honestly think it was a close call, i was working on a wooden table when it started burning. Now I have a 1250 euro paper weight. I did try to contact support and was immediatly cut off once i gave them my serial number, or offered to pay for support. Will paying 30 euros actually achieve something, ie will they attempt a repair or will it be 30 euros just to be told over the phone that its something that simply cannot be repaired. Thanks

HP's lack of quality control is completely unacceptable and inexcusable, especially given the cost of the Spectre x360 line.I went through 5 (FIVE!) 13-inch Spectre x360's. All but one exhibited very loose trackpads (even very light taps will physically move the trackpad down and have an annoying loose click sound when taking your finger off of it). The one with an okay trackpad had USB-C issues. The trackpad -- arguable THE most important part of a laptop -- now feels like garbage. Hell, there are $200 Windows laptops and Chromebooks that have better trackpads than this $1,200 thing. It's extremely frustrating and disappointing. I REALLY wanted for the Spectre x360 to be my laptop (especially considering there's no other 2-in-1 out there that looks this good and is priced as nicely). Looks like the Lenovo Yoga 720 is next on my list. Just wish it had IR cameras for facial logins.

Hello, Last winter purchased a convertible lenovo laptop. The first one had faulty hinges, I had it replaced on the same day I brought it in and the second one had faulty hinges and a faulty touchpad. So, I decided to ditch the cheaper computers and splurged on a HP spectre x360 from Best Buy. I live 200 kilometres away from large retail stores like this so getting back and forth is quite difficult, Staples was very understanding about the Lenovo laptops, however Best Buy told me there was nothing I could do when I described the problems I was having with my brand new HP. Several months went by and I avoided using the computer as much as possible in order to avoid facing the mistake I made in purchasing it. Eventually, my old computer became completely obsolete and I had no choice but use this HP.  My problems were not limited in any way. They ranged from an extremely annoying touchpad that sounded loose and made strange noises, the fact that the screen was closing on an odd angle, and the fact the the screen could barely stay open. A slight touch or even shifting the laptop would cause the screen to move. I could forgive these flaws if I had abused this computer or if it had received heavy usage, however I barely even turned the thing on. I contacted HP support and I must admit that they were polite, friendly and had my return materials sent very quickly.  My first bad sign involving the shipping process was the fact tha... Read more

I'm looking for a 13-inch laptop for myself and have narrowed it down to these two models. Need your help in choosing :)
I'm thinking about such config for both: i7-7560U + Iris Plus Graphics 640 + 16GB RAM + 512GB SSD. As for the screen, I'm still on the fence about it, not sure if I want the best possible res (QHD for Dell, 4K for HP) or the best battery life by going FullHD. Can you guys share your battery life experience with the best screens for these? I'm going to use it primarily for browsing / office work / coding (VS and VS Code) / light photo editing (Lightroom, Photoshop)
For the x360, I like Windows Hello camera (and webcam at the top ) and build quality. And it's a bit cheaper.
For the XPS 13, it's battery life and better port selection
Let me know what you think

As I'm finishing putting it through it's paces by running audio with a few tunes through Spotify and then over to Netflix to check dialogue, I've become aware that the fan has been running for some time. When I picked it up to feel the underside I was quite dismayed to feel how hot this thing was. Not cozy up to the fire hot but call the fire department hot. It was on a Xpad which was starting to get a bit toasty itself. No way this could ever sit directly on my lap. I know this is an ultrabook. I know i7 processors run warm under load but this fella gets HOT. I'm coming off a Spectre 13t with an i5 which is just as tight a unit as this one, but it never reached this kind of hot. I'm humorously concerned if I can put this on my desk while under heavy load without melting the finish off. Is anyone else experiencing similar circumstances? I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Question: Hp spectre x360

Does anyone know the difference in these models apart from screen quality and is it worth paying the extra. I was looking to purchase the 13-ac003tu but came across other models on the HP website. Does anyone know what the model numbers represent?13-ac065tu13-w031tu13-ac066tu13-ac003tu

Question: spectre x360

The 1-minute hold of the power switch worked for me, but it is darn hard to do because of the somewhat inconvenient power switch position - and if you waver for a moment then the 60 seconds starts again. I found it easiest to turn the 360 on its side on a table and then it is easier to hold the switch down for the full minute uninterrupted. This for me only points out the importance for manufacturers to provide a HARD RESET capability through an unfolded paperclip or the like. C'mon guys, give us what we need to maintain our products!

Question: spectre x360

Not the X360 when it's in a hard lock. >>Why would you need to hold down the power switch for 60 seconds?  5-7 second hold is enough to force power down any computer.

Question: HP Spectre x360

Upon opening the notebook on my desk, a series of cracks surfaced on the upper-left bezel of the screen, and extended across the screen. I keep my notebook for the most part on my desk, and when I travel, I put in the HP leather case, and in a well-paded bag. I've owned this notebook since August last year, and it has performed excellently besides the occaisonal loud fan noise and overheat.  I talked with a helpful HP Customer Support Rep, and I was told that if I were to send in my notebook, and screen damage will be presumed inflicted by the customer. I have also been in contact with the HP Executive board, but their reply did not grant me any help. I would like to know if I can send in my notebook for a proper examination, or if I can speak with a case manager on this issue. I really do not want to file a complaint to the BBB, but I feel that will be necessary if the material defect is to be assumed a damage on my part. Thank you in advance. I will include pictures of my display, as well as pictures of the siding to prove the lack of physical/blunt damage.

Hi I bought my HP Spectre x360 4002dx in October 2015 on Ebay in Australia.  Apparently this is an American model.  Anyway, it was working great up until the other day.  Now it refuses to power on at all.  I searched some forums and found out that this seems to be a common problem with this notebook model.  I paid a lot for this notebook and now I am less than 2 months out of warranty and it is a write off?  Does anyone have any advice about what I can do?  I chatted to tech support in Australia and he said to contact the US team. Thanks,MikeC5

It should be an easy thing to do. Contact HP Sales with my computer information, order the accessory I would like to purchase. Turns out, not easy at all. So I'm asking here: does anyone know of an Active Pen that will work with the Spectre x360? I'm hesitant to order one via eBay if there's only a chance that it will work (HP Store and Amazon seem to be sold out.)I contacted HP Sales. Not kidding, below is the transcript of the chat I had with a sales "consultant". To say that she is incompetent is an insult to incompetents. I can't find an email address for support to send this to, either.10/13/20161/17:45 PM Connecting...7:45 PM Connected. Hello, I just received my i7 model of the HP Spectre X360 today and after a short period of use on the computer the upper left corner of the body of the computer becomes very hot, so much that resting it on part of my body becomes unbearable. I had read up on the notebook before buying it and the only mention of any issue of this sort was in a pros/cons list in one review that merely stated that "the bottom runs warm." Thus I was not expecting this level of heat while using the laptop rather casually, as the most intensive thing I was doing was streaming videos. Is this normal for what I am doing on this laptop? It's not the worst problem but it is definitely worrisome as I am planning on using this laptop for the next four years or so. Thank you all in advance!

Answer:Spectre X360 Extremely hot

Hi @yiajiipamu ,

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publically post ( serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Regards,George

Yeah but it is not easy and will jeopardize the warranty. See pages 32-33 of this Manual, which is the closest thing out there for your Model: Service Manual

I cannot create a new folder on the desktop. Right click of the mouse pad does nothing. Shift Control N does nothing. This is ridiculous. Any help is appreciated.

Answer:HP Spectre X360 with Windows 10

Does right click work at all? Try right click on Start button and see if it produces a menu. Some people has experienced problems with their touch pad, try using a mouse and see if right click works.

Hello, I have a HP Spectre x360 which is about 1 1/2 years old, bought in the UK (so annoyingly outside the 1 year warranty). A few days ago it stopped working. No damange, no software problems, no upgrades orf software updates. It simply wouldn't turn on. I've tried a hard reset and all the troubleshooting guides, but no joy. The small ac adaptor light does light up when i plug it it, but no response to the power button. This seems to be a known problem for this particular brand, but my only options appear to be to pay for a very expensive repair.  To me, this is simply unacceptable for a computer to break after such a short time, and with only infrequant usage. I can't find any number to call HP on without paying a large fee. I've tried the retailer, and the same thing. I can pay 60 for them to look at it and see what is wrong, but the chap at the store suggested it would probably cost much more than this to fix once I pay for labour and the parts.  Does anyone have any advice on how to resolve this? Thanks.

Hello, I just picked up a refurbished HP Spectre X360, and I have a question about the fan noise. My fan makes a whistling sound when it picks up speed.  It's normally not on, and only cranks under heavy load, but there's definitely a whistle.  I'm just wondering if this is normal or not.  I have the opportunity to return this unit if it's not normal, but so far it works really well.  I have no problem with "whooshing" or air blowing, but the whistle kind of stinks to hear. Any thoughts?

The latest Spectre x360 model has most of the specs I am looking for in a new laptop...  except the physical size!  A 15" laptop suits my needs better than 13" but the specs of the 15" model have not yet been updated.  When will a new 15" Spectre x360 model with a 7th generation/Kaby Lake i7 Intel processor be released?
