T420s When power button is pressed light comes on and then powers off then repeats and won't start

Question: T420s When power button is pressed light comes on and then powers off then repeats and won't start

T420s tries to start after power button is pressed, then shuts off and continually repeats this process..Does this with battery and also with power cord..Removed hard drive and changed memory and does the same thing.. Doesn't even get to the Thinkpad screen..

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My fiancée's HP G62 laptop suddenly stopped booting. More specifically, when you press the power button, the power light comes on, but the screen stays totally black. I tried doing a hard reset on it (unplug, remove the battery, and hold power button down for 60 seconds), but that didn't work.  I tried this multiple times with no success. I shined a flashlight on the screen to see if there was a faint image (indicating a backlight problem), but there is no image at all. I tried connecting the computer to an external monitor, and that didn't work either.   Recently I had to replace the fan and the power button assembly on this machine, but it was working fine after that until now.

We went on a short,  2 day, vacation and my wife unplugged her computer since we live in the lightening capital of the world. Upon our return she plugged in the computer and pressed the button. Nothing happened. No fans, no boot. I opened the computer and a greeen LED on the motherboard lights when I apply power to the computer. It is a EMachines about 1 1/2 years old running XP. Could the battery cause this problem? If so, what do I need to do to correct it.

Answer:Computer will not start when power button pressed

Sounds like you're power supply is about dead. How many watts is it? It should say... All you need to do is go buy another one from a computer store with the same wattage, and replace it.Flame

Suddenly my new Satellite Pro A300 will not start correctly when the power button is pressed. The situation is this: When I press the power button the Toshiba opening picture (Leading Innovation) appears and disappers quickly. Then there is a black screen for about 30 seconds. Then there is a rectangular frame with the text Microsoft Corporation underneath. And nothing happens however long I wait.

In order to get on with the starting proces I then shut down the computer by pressing down the power button until the computer stops. ("The hard way to shut down")
Now I press the power button shortly to turn on the computer. Then the computer starts normally with the Toshiba opening picture and after a few seconds I am asked to open the computer in safe mode or in normal mode. I now choose to open in normal mode and the computer opens normally and is ready to work.

What shall I do to get a normal start procedure?

Answer:Why does Satellite Pro A300 not start when the power button is pressed?

When notebook starts normally (after choosing normal mode) shut down your notebook properly using START > Shut down option. Next start should be normal.

When the OS is switched down on irregular way you will be always asked how to start it again (safe or normal mode).
The same happen on my Satellite A300.

Hi,

I have this problem for one week. I have the following error message when I start up my PC, a 6-year old HP pavilion desktop:

“Reboot and select proper device or insert boot media in selected boot drive and press a key”

Pressing any key gives me the same message. The night before the problem started, it was OK – however, I noticed that the shutdown process was much slower than usual.

I had done the following to try to resolve the problem but without success:

I had gone into the cmos setup / Boot Device priority and tried to set to boot from hard drive first but it indicates “HDD Group Boot Priority” as not installed.

In cmos setup, I pressed F5 key to Load Setup defaults, then F10 to save and exit cmos setup.
I took out the coin size battery from the motherboard, waited for 15 minutes and placed it back – then went into cmos again, press F5 again to Load Setup defaults. Repeated the process twice, this time waited for half an hour before putting the battery back – still cannot boot.

I took out the graphics card and put it back; unplugged the power cable from the hard drive and inserted it back; used another spare power connector to connect to the hard drive.
I pulled out (disconnect) the hard drive data cable (red color) from both the hard drive and motherboard and re-connect it back – still cannot boot.

And I realized something is very strange – now, every time I switched on the power on the wall plug, the PC start to power up immediately and the power ... Read more

Okay to start off with, I think it's the motherboard, and not a connectivity error, but I just want to be sure. When I press the power button it blinks red and nothing happens, if I hold it in the light stays red. Everything is connected correctly, I think the motherboard is fried, but I just want confirmation (it's from like 2005 and it's a server motherboard because this is for a server). Also because of this, there is no OS installed.

Answer:Laptop will not start only power button light flash

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of your problem.  What model do you have ?

Try clearing the CMOS to see if that will resolve the start up problem.  Just do this....
1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Remove the battery. (If your model has a removable battery, not an internal one)3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

Hello! I have been having this problem for about a week now, ever since I set my old computer back up in my room. The problem started when I left my computer alone for a while when I went out (the computer was working fine and I had just finished transfering pictures to my computer from my camera). I came back and the power light on the front if the case was on, but the battery light was off. The monitor had also gone into sleep mode. I turned off the computer since I knew whatever I was going had already been saved and exited out of, unplugged everything (including the monitor and PC/Monitor cable) and plugged it back in and turned them on. The monitor goes straight to power saving mode (sleep mode). The PC is definitely receiving power, the keyboard's caps and num lock keys flash, the wireless mouse's light flashes, the pc fans turn on, and both of the power and battery lights turn on. But, after a second, the battery light turns off, and the only light I can see through it is the power indicator's light bleeding through. The strange thing is, I've been able to get it to work before, about 2 times actually. Both of those successful boots happened either when I ignored the thing for so long or left it unplugged over night, but had already forgot it didn't work last time. But it did those times. So I tried to leave it unplugged all last night. Just woke up, and... still nothing. I really need to to get those pictures to my mom, so if someone could ple... Read more

Hello people, an hour ago I put my Lenovo 510p into energy save mode. When I tried to reactivate the laptop nothing happens. I removed the batterie and the power cord, put everything back in and hit the power button: The power button and the "on" LED on the front shines (continuously) but nothing else happens. No booting sound, no keyboard LED, no nothing. Removing the battery and power cord, pressing power button 10 times in a 1 second interval, then holding it for 30 seconds hasnt helped. Any tips what I can do furthermore? GreetingsDix

Hi. My new phone was just broken, so I decided to switch back to my Nokia Lumia 720. So I just put it on charge, and noticed a strange thing: battery charging indicator was always present, and not disappearing after some seconds. But I didn't give it so mush attention. Then, when my phone switched on automatically (battery was good charged) i noticed that the power/lock button was unusable. In fact, it acts like I'm keeping him pressed. If I don't touch my phone for a pair of minutes, the screen switches off, and the only way I can put it on again is unmounting the phone, disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. I can't even perform a soft reset.
And if I just press "volume up" button, the phone takes a screenshot.
So I guessed that the problem may be caused by the buttons strip inside of the phone.
Then I tried unmounting the phone, disconnecting buttons strip and putting the phone on charge (to turn it on without the need to press any button).
And the problem was still there.
So I finally got two ideas:
- when the strips are disconnected, the power button acts like pressed because nokia decided it. Maybe switching to new strips could help me getting it working back again.
- there's something that's damaged inside my phone's hardware. And it will be a too high price for kinda phone.
So I guess: if I'll buy a new buttons strip from ebay (they're sold at a very low price), and try to replace the old one, can I solve my problem? Or there's something else I could do to repair... Read more

Windows was slowing down a bit, so I figured it was time to reformat and reinstall. After backing everything up, I used the XP Pro cd with SP2 and my sata drivers that I made that worked fine the last time I installed.

After installing, Windows started stopping while loading, with the blue loading bar not moving. It didn't do it every time, but almost everytime. It even does it right after the restart after copying the files, before it even starts the setup.

After the third reformat, and with no non-essential hardware plugged in, I discovered that if the power button was pressed, the screen would go black, come back, and continue loading. Not matter how long I wait, from a second to several hours, it pauses, and pushing the power button starts it going again immediately. Booting to safe mode never has a problem, so I can't narrow it down to a particular file or driver.

Since the hardware and install cd are the same as my last install that went fine, I'm not sure what is causing this. I've ran various hardware tests, and everything has been negative so far. The computer seems to work fine after the power button is pressed and Windows finishes loading, but I'm worried it may be a symptom of a larger problem. Any ideas?

Hello,

Ive looked all over the internet and spent weeks trying to figure out the problem but im at a loss.
I recently replaced a cracked screen on my A200-27R and everything worked fine.

A few days later I booted the laptop again and nothing happened and has been the same ever since.
The blue power and battery lights come on but there is no response when the power button is pressed, not even the fan.

I've checked all the connections inside several times, checked it without the battery etc.
I'm just not sure what to try next, any ideas?

Thanks

Hi. Tonight I had a problem with my laptop. It was in sleeping mode, and when I open the lid there were no mouse function and no touch screen function. So the only thing I could do was to press the power button for 3 seconds to turn it off, but it didn't completely, because the screen turn off, but the power button light is blinking just like when it is on sleep mode, and I'm not sure if the hard drive light was on, off or blinking before this, but now is blinking. I press the power button and nothing happen, I press it for 3 seconds and nothing happen. I even did the HDMI connection to another monitor, but both monitors don't show anything, not even recognize that something is connected to the HDMI port in the new monitor. There is no sound, nothing, just the 2 blinking lights. What should I do? Thanks PS: I'm not sure if it's Windows 10 32-bit or 64-bit. It was upgraded from Windows 8

So from day one my SP4 came with a loose, rattly power button. I did a little bit of research and found that other people were receiving models like this, though I'm not exactly sure how common it is. Since it didn't have any other issues I decided to keep it but now, about six months later, I'm starting to have issues with the power button. It will often take multiple presses to get the button to register an input which is obviously very concerning as it may get to the point where it doesn't work at all. Also, even though I only put the device through minor use as it's not my main PC, the frame is starting to get creaky when held in certain spots (almost like if you were to lightly push your finger against a water model and then let go). Which is odd to me because it didn't come like that and I have never dropped the device or done anything to damage the frame.
Having said that, my SP4 has no signs of wear as I've been very careful with it, the battery has no issues and is still holding a full design capacity charge after 50 cycles, and I've had almost no software issues with the device. My worry is that since apparently you only receive refurbished models when you get your Surface Pro replaced, that I'll get one with battery wear or cosmetic issues.
So my question is, what is the general quality of the refurbished replacements, and if I don't find the one I receive to be satisfactory, can I keep getting replacements until I'm happy with what they send me? Thanks in advance... Read more

I?m sorry to hear that your Y500 Laptop is not turning ON after playing game and turning OFF manually, I suggest you to perform the Flee-Power and check the issue. Below are the steps to check and resolve the issue:

I have been experiencing this problem for the last 3 or 4 weeks, and even after a fresh format and instal it is still happening.

When ever i'musing Windows and press the start menu with the mouse, or the windows key with the keyboard, my monitor (Dell 2407p) will go blank, enter power save mode and my fans will speed up. Sounds continue to play in the background for about 10 -15 seconds and then hang. I've tried using the keyboard to shutdown/restart, but nothing happens.

After my format and install of vista everything was fine for a few day, until I installed Command and Conquer Red Alert 3. The game would load up and the intro movies and menus would work fine, but as soon as I got to game play and would move the mouse around the map the same problem would happen in the exact same spot in the game, and now the problem is happening again in windows. This leads me to belive that it might be a problem with my video card or the drivers. I have the lastest drivers installed at the moment (180), but when I first had the problem I was using an older driver.

Is it possible that it's a problem with DX10 because thats the only common thing that I have installed ontop of windows in both cases, or could it be a faulty video card (9800 GX2) or something else.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, cause I have expended all my PC knowledge trying to solve this and an extensive google and forum search has turned up nothing.

Thanks.

Have you tested your memory using something like memtest86? I'd let it run a few passes overnight. It sounds sporadic enough that bad memory might be the root of your problem.

Hello everyone Got my Yoga 13 back in mid December, and so far I have been really happy with it.However, just recently I noticed a critical problem; When the lid is closed, and the power button is pressed, the laptop wakes itself up. Actually once mine woke up when I might have accidentally pressed the power button when placing it inside the sleeve bag. It stayed in my bag for a good 2 hours and heated the hell out of everything (85 Celsius!!), even some color off of the sleeve burned into the side of the yoga (not too noticeable, didn't really care about it). It survived however, no internal damages or performance reduction as I have thoroughly tested everything. So is this suppose to happen? My brother has a Sony VAIO which is close to 3 years old and has Windows 7 on it, and it also has the power button on the outside inside the round hinges. When I press the power button while lid is closed, it doesn't wake up. How come the Yoga wakes up when the power button is pressed during lid closed? Or do I just have a bad unit? Thank you.

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13 - Wakes up when lid is closed when power button is pressed

Bump! Can anyone atleast try this on their yoga? Also, back at the end of December I also noticed another thing; The charging light (the light which comes on when you plugin the charger) is on all the time regardless of whether the charger is plugged in or not. Someone please help me out.

I was charging my phone all of a sudden it shuts off and when I tried to turn it back on the flash just turns on. I also tried charging again but the flash turns on and odd

Answer:Nokia lumia 1320 flash turns on when power button is pressed

You should attempt a Hard Reset.
Power off the phone > hold Volume Down > press Power > keep holding Volume Down until you see the exclamation (!) screen, then immediately release the Volume Down
Now tap Volume Up / Volume Down / Power / Volume Down
You should see the spinning gears and your phone will reflash the last OS version held in recovery. You do loose data, but get your phone back. Sign into your Microsoft Account and restore your backup during the set up.

Yes, it seems like a hardware failure. Could be anything from SSD, HDD or the Motherboard itself. You should let Lenovo take a look at it and send you a repaired or another new laptop.

Hi All,

I have had this Toshiba Equium L350D since September 2008, and it has not been in use that often, it was working fine two days ago, but yesterday I switched it on, with power lead attached, and the "plug" light came on and was solid, and so did the power and the battery indicators, I could hear the fan working and the light on the cd/dvd was on solid. But that was it, no activity from the hard drive at all.

I could not switch it off without disconnecting the power lead and removing the battery as the power button did not seem to perform a shut-off when pressed for 10 seconds.

Any advice, apart from taking it to a repair centre as I do not really want to spend too much money on it.

Answer:Equium L350 powers up (power light on solid) but no activity from HDD

Hi dude

I think you have no other choice as to get in contact with an notebook technician.
The point is that this issue sounds as an serious hardware problem? I think about motherboard or CPU issue because it was not possible to shut down the unit pressing the power button for 10 sec?

The notebook has been purchased in September 2008?
Well? if you have registered the notebook on the Toshiba European driver page then the warranty should be valid for 24month?. And this means that the warranty should be still valid?
So you should not need to pay for anything?

Okay, I've had my Emachines C2825 for almost four years now. It's had many problems already: the cpu was overheating a couple times last year. I bought a system fan which took care of that problem. only a couple months ago i replaced the hard drive due to a whining noise which i understand means it would have died on me. NOW THE LATEST PROBLEM: the pc shuts down automatically and then wont turn on until i unplug it from the psu and plug it in again. I of course took the cover off and checked it out. i turned it on without the monitor plugged in and then rebooted with it plugged in. the monitor would go on standby just before it hit the logon screen. That happened multiple times. So i took the cover off again, checked it out, and put it back together......now what ........as soon as I plug it in, it turns on, but the power button light and the hard drive light does not show up. the power button will not turn the pc on or off, and i can't get a signal from the monitor.

Wow, that was long, but that should be it.......I hope someone can explain this and/or tell me how to fix it.
Thanks

i've got a problem with this HP nx 6110, that it turns on without at all touching the power button. and in a few seconds tries to restart. there is no display at all.I suspected a battery problem, so i removed the battery.I've subsequently opened the laptop completely, and step by step removed each component. now i'm left with just the motherboard with the processor (no CMOS battery either), to which the power cable is connected. but still it's just the same old problem.i turn the switch on.  the AC main light turns on, then in a few second, the other light tuns on, and the fan starts spinning, after a few seconds, all the lights go off, the fan appears to be stopping, but before it completely stops spinning, the whole process repeats, starting from the AC light turning on.i suspect the motherboard, but somehow i'm sure there is something that can be done.any ideas welcomed.

dell xps m2010 wont start up ,blue power light and bluetooth light stay on,i have been searching posts in other forums as well as this one and i thought i`d narrowed it down to the graphics card,i was right to an effect,my approach was to take the xps apart following dells website documents, while i had the top (dvd drive) off ,i noticed that the graphics card screws were really loose (this was my first job)...i tightened these. The top(dvd drive ) i re-connected ,but propped it up at an angle so i could still see motherboard and parts,(warning!be carefull!!)electric!! ...attached power cable and pressed power button after half a dozen times pressing this it came to life.I noticed my fans were working and thought this might not be my motherboard after all ,no overheating happening...then it froze on windows xp ??it was a start !another 6 to ten times pressing power button it worked again this time not freezing.went into bluetooth with usb mouse and paired keyboard ,made system restore point and restarted .It took maybe 4 times with it being glitchy(freezing ..not powering up) ,but when it does load xp without freezing try restarting windows xp and then it eventually finds its feet!!!my xps 2010 is running ok now.jimb

Ahhh!!! Nothing ever shows up on the screen. The blue power light stays lit the whole time (I don't think power is being interrupted to the mobo). The green light on the power supply also stays continuously lit. I have not made any software or hardware changes for several weeks. It does it when operating from battery pack, on AC, and with both, it doesn't seem to matter. I have pulled out the ram and tried the original ram that came with it, it still does it. It doesn't make any beeps or anything. It powers up for 3 seconds then dies (except blue power light stays on still), then it continues to do this. I downloaded the pdf for tearing apart the laptop and took it all apart to be able to access the CPU. I pulled it out and reinstalled it again to make sure it was seated again. Put whole thing back together (3 hours wasted), and it still does it.

Please help. I think I might be in the market for a new mobo...which is last I saw $900.

Are there any aftermarket motherboard makers that might make one that will fit an HP case? Or does anyone have an idea of what I can do to salvage some value out of this thing?? Please help!!!!

I first logged out of my computer and came back and I noticed an orange light on the power button. I shut it of and turn it back on about two times with the same results of an orange light. I then shut of the the extension that houses 10 plugs. When I turned on the extension I turned on the computer the power button didn't give off a blue light or orange light. The VGA cable, mouse, keyboard, Ethernet cable are all plugged in. I later removed all the connects to the computer gave it a minute and plugged it all back in. There is a solid green light on the back under the power cable. The fans turn on there is noise coming from inside the computer a soft humming and light fan from the back of the computer. But the power button will not turn on. The monitor light is orange and says "No Input signal Input 2,Go to Power Save." When I switch to input 1 it reads "Cable Disconnected Go to Power Save." What internal issue could this be?

Recently purchased the Aspire TC-705 desktop. Everything is fine. But I do have question on the power button light behavior that puzzles me. On occasion the power button will continously blink white while the system presumably goes into sleep mode but sometimes it will not blink but instead exhibits the stead white light. So the question is: Why does this desktop power button light blink and sometimes not while in sleep mode?" Running 8.1 windowsset to turn off display after 10 minutesset to turn off disk after 20 minutesset to enter sleep mode after 30 minutes

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:TC-705 Power button light

If the power light isn't blinking, then it's not in sleep mode.  Your monitor might be in sleep mode, but your computer isn't. There's several things that can prevent your computer from sleeping at the designated time (with inactivity).  One of the most common culprits is Windows Media Player (multimedia).  You can check your advanced power settings to change "prevent idling to sleep".

Question: power button light

Whenever I shut down my laptop, the power light doesnt go off everytime. It goes off 1 in 10 times. Rest of the time it remains on and if I dont notice that whole of the battery is consumed.I have to press power button to switch it off most of the times after giving shut down option

Answer:power button light

Dear Customer, Try the following. Open Settings and select System.  Select Power and sleep, then click on Additional power settings - in the following window, click on 'Choose what the power button does' in the left hand pane. In the subsequent window, first click on 'Change settings that are currently unavailable' ( near the top of the Window ) and then remove the checkmark from the box against 'Turn on fast start-up (recommended)'.  Click the Save Settings button, then close any open windows and restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, download the IMEI driver directly from Intel on the following link, unzip the package and run the installer. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26127/Intel-Management-Engine-Consumer-Driver-for-Intel-NU... When the installation has completed, restart the notebook. When the machine has reloaded, re-enable Fast Start-up and reboot the notebook once again - let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking.

Dell E510 Intell Pentium D, 1g memory, WinXP

I have been having a problem starting my computer from the tower.Called Dell* the first time but it just happened to start up while I was talking to them. They said I probably pushed the button on a slant?
Well it has happened twice since. I shut down normally last night & this morning pushed the start button (made sure I wasn't "slanted") same thing . I get a flashing orange light and then a voice that says "Press repeat button to receive setup instructions".

Where is a repeat button? I have held the start button in for a minimum of 3 minutes but it won't shut off. Pulled power & let it sit for 15 min. & tried again..flashing orange. So I just let it continue flashing and this time it finally shut off. Went to start again..walla..it started! Now this is the third time and I am afraid the next time it won't start ever.
Someone out there able to help?

*Was surprised at Dell trying to sell me tech help in North America so I could get faster response time & a North American. This was before they would start to answer my question!

Not sure if this is where I should put this or not, but I have a problem.

When I shut down the computer, the fan stays running and the light on
the power button remains lit with a yellow/amber color. What could be
causing this?

It just started happening yesterday. The only way to get the computer
back up is to unplug it and plug it back in. Pushing the power button
when it is like that does not work.

It is an e-machine, 2.7 GHz Intel Celeron, 80 GB with 1G Ram and I have
Windows XP

Answer:Power button light stays on??

How are you shutting down? Just hitting the button? Has the machine been configured to go into standby when that happens, instead of powering off? Does it work when you click Start --> Shut Down, and select Shutdown?

Here's how to check:

1. Right-click on the desktop
2. Select 'Properties'
3. On the 'Display Properties' dialog, select the 'Screen Saver' tab
4. Under 'Monitor Power' press the 'Power' button
5. On the 'Power Options Properties' dialog, select the 'Advanced' tab

The setting we are looking for is listed here under 'Power Buttons'. If this is set to standby, it will generate the symptoms you are experiencing.

1. Plug the computer into a power strip that has an on/off switch. Turn the power strip on. Press the computer power on button to start as normal, but after after one second turn off the power strip switch just long enough for the fans on the computer to slow down, but the amber computer led doesn't turn off and then turn the power strip switch back on. Computer should start and run fine. Computer typically can be shut down for up to 5 minutes and restarted normally--any longer and you have to sue the power strip power switch routine again.Click to expand...

do you mean a single beep, or multiple beeps? These codes will identify the issue.

Specifically with Dell desktops, you can refer to these beep codes:
1 beep: BIOS ROM corruption or failure
2 beeps: RAM not detected
3 beeps: Motherboard failure
4 beeps: RAM failure
5 beeps: CMOS Battery failure
6 beeps: GPU failure
7 beeps: Bad CPU

Additional Dell error information can be found here.

Hi,
Vostro 460 Mid Tower system, circa May 2012, Core i5-2400, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
I noticed that recently the light in the power button is completely out. No blue, no amber, no steady, no blinking light - nothing.
Other than that, the PC works just fine. Turns on, runs, everything else is fine.
It's just a little disconcerting, because when it goes into powersave, there's no visual indication that the computer is on.
Any thoughts about what this might be? Loose connection to the motherboard? Are power button LED's in the Vostro 460 known to burn out?
Thanks

Answer:Vostro 460 - No light in power button

Led is burn out. You can grab a similar LED bulb and replace the old one. This will be a simple soldering exercise.

Answer:light on keyboard but power button inoperative?

Things like "screen went white" and "keyboard light on but doesn't seem to power up."It will help if you can describle what happens when switching on from "cold".... any sounds of fans or disks, any lights come on at all except the keyboard's "power" light?Do you hear any beeps? Does the monitor stay black or show any messages at all?A long shot, but worth doing if you are happy to look inside the box, is to make absolutely sure the video card is properly pushed home and the data cable at the back of the computer is well connected.

To be clear, my PC turns on and seems to run exactly as it should, so this is possibly more of a cosmetic/superficial issue. The little light located on the power button no longer lights up when the PC is powered on. Strangely, the light still blinks on and off as it should when the PC is in sleep mode, so the light still has some functionality. My PC is only a couple of months old, so I'm just a little concerned that this could be a sign of things to come. I hope that other components don't start failing on me.Does anyone here have any possible explanations? Thanks.

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

The power button light is incorporated right into the motherboard circuitry and it is not something the owner can repair. Chances are the Lenovo Service Center will have to replace the motherboard in order to fix the problem.

As for Lenovo Support fixing the problem under warranty, that question would be best asked of the service center in your country as I can not answer that.  You can find the phone number for Lenovo Support in your country or area by using the link below....http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/supportphonelist_alt1

Can someone tell me for sure that the LED on the power button is supposed to light up?  I swear mine worked.  I sent it to Dell to have the hinge problem fixed, which I see a lot of you had issues with.  Well, when I got it back the light no longer comes on.  Dell is trying to say it never came on.  That this model doesn't have a light.  I said, why does it have the rectangle clear lens for a light?  They just keep saying it doesn't have one.  They said they would send a copy of specs that show this.  Never did.  I have several people that agree with me.  But, looking for more support to confront Dell.

Hi Decesaro,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!

Is the machine logging into windows? If so request you to run the LSC test i.e. Lenovo solution center. Launch LSC, once you are in the Lenovo diagnostic page at the left side of the LSC home page you will see an option called checkup clikc on the option > hardware scan > Run scan.

Here is the link to download the LSC in case if you do have the one.
https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/pd022501

Once you finish the test it will show is there any hardware issue or software issue with the machine.
Also, please let me know whether the machine is getting heated?

Please write back, whether the above steps helped you.
Thank you, have a good day.

I bought this laptop few days ago and from the beginning i noticed that light around my power button is not working.

so now i'm in dillema to return it or not?

Everything else is working fine, but because of it's price i expected to work properly.

And what may be the reason for that?

Tnx

Answer:Satellite P50-B-103 - light around power button is not working

As far as I know the power button or to be more precise, the margin around the power button should be lit / illuminated.

In my opinion its not serious issue but if it?s a problem for you and you are not satisfied with that, I would recommend you to contact the dealer in order to replace the unit.

Hi there,My son's computer recently started having this problem in which, after 5 minutes of the computer running, and running fine at that, it suddenly closes down immediately, but yet, is not switched off: the power button which usually is a constant green starts to slowly flash yellow and the only way to stop this is to switch the computer off. Whenever he switches it back on it does the same thing, works fine for 5 minutes and then switches to nothing but the flashing yellow light, we have even tried it in safe mode and the same thing happens.Just to give some info which might help you, the computer is a Dell Dimension 5000 running windows xp home edition. The last time before the problem started, the computer had been left on for around 20 hours, and this has been happening for around 12 hours now. He did replace his graphics card recently, but that was 3 months ago and he hasn't noticed anything wrong with it in that timeIs this easily fixable or will a professional have to be brought in, and if so would it just be worth backing up the necessary dataand buying a laptop to replace it, as he is off to university in a couple of years so will need a new computer soon anyway.Well thank you in advance, just ask if you need anymore information about the computer, i'll do my best. Thanks!

My roommate tried to "fix" his PC but god knows he doesn't know crap. The PC acts like it is going to turn on, but the light on the front of the tower does not light up, nor does the display. The light on the motherboard is solid green, and he is still able to charge a phone through the PC, so I'm guessing the power supply is good if it can do all of this. At this point I am at a loss because I'm normally very good with this stuff, any suggestions? and I don't believe it's the video card.

The moment when I try to power it back on, nothing happened except the power button light up other than that nothing else light up.My HDD is not running and so is my fan..Am I recommended send my laptop back to service centre? Thanks

Answer:Y410P power button light up but blank screen

Can you please try to reset the BIOS -1) Take out battery and disconnect all power sources.2) Press Power button for upto a minute.3) Connect all power and battery.4) Start the system. If nothing happens, then shutdown again. Press the NOVO button on side of the laptop and let me know what happens? If nothing happens, then (if you are comfortable), open the laptop and remove the HDD. Power up the laptop and let me know what happens. You can also try removing the RAM, if you have 2 sticks, could be that one of them is faulty. Just try booting with either one.

Day before yesterday when I was trying to start my laptop, the light turned on-off continuously several times, and finally the power key light turned on but the screen was black. And yesterday the light turned on-off thrice. But after that every time I turned it, the power button light got on, but the screen was black.Present situation: On starting my laptop, the power key light is on, but the screen persists to be black, not getting on-off on it's own. I found one solution, of removing the battery as well as charger and pressing the power key for about 60 seconds. But it didn't help. Please suggest what might the problem be and solutions!!

The light of the power button doesn't work, the button works perfect and all the other buttons(touch buttons) work good and the lights are on when I start the laptop but the light of the power button is off. Where is the problem? It could be the band of the power button light? PS: Sorry for my english, I hope you will understand my message

Answer:Lenovo y570 power button light problem

hi Stefy333,

Welcome to the Forums.

From your description, it looks like there's a problem with the Sensor Board (this is the area where power and touch buttons are located).

You can try to reseat the sensor board to isolate any possibliity of a loose connection but if this doesn't work, you may need to replace this part.

Lately my computer has been on the fritz, it started with not being able to get it to come out of slumber/sleep mode. No big deal but still a bit annoying. the big deal is that the last month orso my PC won't start after i push the on/off power button, it won't light up. The light at the back of the pc is on as is the light on the adapter.  I tend to remove  power, even unplug it for a little while and try again, sometimes this works and when the pc is running it is working perfectly, but i dredd turning it off because it's a luck of the draw if it will start up again the next morning. is this a simple thing to fix, repair if so how?  Because right now I don't have the money to buy a new pc.

The amber light below the start button is always bust like somethings running in the background or as if something is trying to instale. Does anyone know why this light is continuously on?

Answer:Amber Light Below Start Button

Are you referring to your casing start button?

If so, that is the light of your HardDisk activity. It is normal for it to blink.

Hi,
In reference to the following posting, http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19676126:
I am not the individual who initiated this query but I did have the same issue with my Dell Inspiron 5547, where it wouldn't turn on after a power button shut down.
I followed Hema's instructions by removing the battery and charger and then holding down the power button for a few seconds, and then putting back the parts. It seemed to have done the trick... At least for now. Is this just a temporary fix?
While doing a Google search for a solution I seem to have encountered a number of people who experienced the same issue. Can you also explain why this happens with this particular Dell laptop? Is it a model flaw?
Thank you

Hi guys well I just hope someone with some electronics knowledge in repairing notebooks would help me out in here.
I got a sager 5680 lappy, and when I plug the lap on AC power without the battery I turn on the unit and instantly goes off, ( I hear a low sparky noise like some sort of short circuit, when this happens the psu light dimms from rock solid ) .
Now if you leave the unit with the battery charging you may be lucky and the battery will charge and the only way the unit works is with the battery on it's bay, as soon as you remove the battery boom unit shuts off.

The Unit does work but only when you plug in a battery and when it charges if you leave it dunno a couple of nights never gets solid green

What I did :
==================

- Could the PSU be bad not throwing enough amps ? even if it shows voltage
on digital meter

- This lap has a separate voltage daughtercard for the battery I removed it when diagnosing this card goes
plugged onto the mainboard and here the battery gets plugged.

- Measured PSU voltage it's working fine 20volts DC

- Checked SMD fuse on motherboard , fine

- Dissasembled the entire unit ripped everything off that might me faulty

- I've read the AC plug sometimes get's broken and I retouched the solder points, once I did this, by miracle the unit started without the battery plugged on. But guess what after I assembled the unit then again , when on AC power alone turned on , and then went off . So I don... Read more

Answer:laptop not starting on AC , power light on , I press on button & goes off instantly

The power adapters and the power sockets have an extremely high failure rate in the Sager 5680 laptop. We have seen eight of them in our shop with identical symptoms. While still under warranty, Sager replaced those without a question.

The problem appears to be where the power meets the motherboard. New parts would need to be re-soldered into the system... expensive because it is very time consuming.

Sorry I don't have a solution for you. Working units are available on eBay, if you want to trace the problem between a working model and a failed one.

Power button LED light is not lighting up on DELL Inspiron 5559. Is it normal?

Answer:Power button LED light not lighting up on DELL Inspiron 5559

Good question.  I have the same problem with my 4 month old 5559.  The description in the reference guide says "Indicates the power and battery?charge status.  Press Fn+H to toggle this light between hard?drive activity light and battery?status light."  If I press Fn+H, sure enough it shows hard drive activity.    Confession time:  I never saw this in the documentation until I looked it up to reply to your question today!  I never knew I had a disk activity light - man, I'm glad to have found this!  :-)

I have a dell t3400 (core duo e8400, 4gb Ram...) which was powered by the oem psu, but I changed it to a corsair vs450 so I could power my gpu. Two months later, after taking the gpu and psu to another pc, I put the oem psu back into the dell, and tried to power on, but there is a blinking orange light in the power button. I doubt it is a mobo problem, because it was working today. Any ideas?

Answer:Dell T3400 orange blinking light in power button
