Stylus compatibility with new 2017 HP spectre x360?

Question: Stylus compatibility with new 2017 HP spectre x360?

I need a definitive answer. Everywhere on the internet I have searched I haven't gotten one, is the new 2017 kaby lake model of the HP spectre x360 AC013DX, i7-5500 CPU compatible with an active stylus. If so is it compatible with the dell 750 AAGN active stylus? I have checked the compatibilty list however it says that it isn't compatible however I have seen useres reporting that it comes with a stylus and ebay sellers, multiple of them, saying that it is compatible with a stylus and one that even comes with one. HP has done a terrible job of the calirty of styluses and it has taken me over a month to try and get an answer but I haven't so I ask on here now. Somebody please clear this up for me.

Preferred Solution: Stylus compatibility with new 2017 HP spectre x360?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If you have one of the new 2017 HP Spectre x360 with the stylus, either model number 13-AC013DX or 13-AC023DX or 15-BL012DX.....Have you experienced any battery drain when the device turned OFF completely? This was a known issue for the 2015 Spectre x360 and the late 2016 Spectre x360. It would drain about 1% every 2 hours when turned OFF. I had a late 2016 Spectre x360 that had that problem and I returned it because of that problem. There is a lot of topics about other people having the same problem. But its only for the 2015 and 2016 Spectre x360 models. I have not seen any one with a 2017 stylus model report it on here yet. So I wanted to check if anyone that has 1 of these experienced this?

Dear HP support / communityI entered university a while ago and for several reasons, purchased a HP spectre x360 13-4290nz. Possibly the most important one being able to take notes digitally (typing would lessen the learning effect). Therefore I am very dependent on stylus support. Now, I wasn't able to find evidence which confirms that pens will not work with my model (except for my experiences of course). I have tried various styli (like the active pen for Windows surface or the Dell active Pen, which works fine with other spectre models (as stated in some forums). The PC Tablet Settings show a "Limited Touch Support" for this convertible and according to the HP assistant, my PC is fully updated. The piece that is missing here - as far as I was able to understand the conversations in several forums / threads - is the firmware, which recognizes pens. Some days ago (I think around Nov. 26, 2016), I saw that some other models of the newest HP series got a firmware update on their support page and some users wrote, that this fixed the problem and they were able to use the pen from this point out. I have checked the support page for my model and wasn't able to find a firmware update or something in this direction at all (http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Spectre-13-4200-x360-Convertible-PC/10862116/mode...).Now my main questions would be if the firmware is indeed the problem and if there will be a update that will enable sytlus support in the future or if there ar... Hey all! I just bought a brand new HP Spectre x360 13-t touch OLED display in ash silver (specifically the P3A84AV) with 8GB RAM and 256 solid state drive. 6th gen intel i7 running Windows 10. Just after purchasing this I came across a forum posted back in February that discussed the fact that the Spectre computers say they are stylus compatible, but really they do not come with the correct software or firmware (I can't recall which) needed to respond to a stylus. In fact, you must uninstall something and then install a different firmware in order to add the compatibility. My question is: Is this still the case with the new Spectres, or has HP fixed this? If it arrives and is not compatible, does anyone know the steps needed to add compatibility? Stylus compatibility was a HUGE selling point for me here... Thanks much for all your help!

Dears,I am planning to get the HP Spectre x360 134155NE (core i7, 6th generation, 512 GB, 8 GB RAM, FHD Screen). I am mainly going for this because I need a laptop which I can use as a tablet and mainly WRITE notes using Stylus. From my search I found the Dell Stylus to be working well with the Spectre, however I have read here and in other websites about non-compatibility of Stylus (any stylus whether HP or Dell) with some models of Spectre (specifically the new ones). As the shop which I am trying to get it from doesn't have Stylus to try with, I am seeking confirmation here that this type works with the Stylus before going forward and purchase.Any help would be appreciated.

I recently purchased the Spectre x360 (13-4003dx) along with the Bamboo Stylus feel Carbon. Unforunately, the stylus was not compatiable with the Spectre and I had to return it (after reaching out their customer support). I still want an Active Pen/Stylus for my Spectre to take precise notes with OneNote and I want to know which stylus/pen are compatibile with the Spectre (e.g. if the HP Active Pen J4R51AA#ABL is compatiable).  Thanks!

I recently bought the 2016 version of the HP Spectre x360, and I'm trying to look for an active stylus to use for it, specifically for the palm rejection. My problem is that I've been finding very conflicting information on its compatibility. Some say that it is compatible with only the HP Active Stylus, others say that a Dell stylus works, and others say that the stylus compatibility was removed completely in the 2016 model. (To make it even more confusing, there is even a reddit page claiming the problem only comes from a faulty firmware installer.) Tl;dr: What active styluses are compatible with the 2016 model of the HP Spectre x360? (Or has that functionality been removed completely?) Thanks so much, any replies are greatly appreciated

I was lucky enough to buy one of the new Spectre X360 Ready to Ship model early, but the day after receiving it the Laptop started shutting off when lifted from the left side. It does not shut down when lifted with 2 hands or from the right side. Is also does not shut down when in the screen is rotated to put it in tablet mode. Only when held by left side only when screen is in normal laptop postion. Any thoughts. It's only 5 days old should I return it. Also it is hard to start back up. Need to due a hard reboot by holding power button in for 1 minute w/o AC adapter attached. Does it with and without AC adapter attached.

I saw that the new 2017 kaby lake spectre x360 was compatible with n-trig pens so I bought the surface pen (the one that comes with the new surface pro 4/surface book), I connected the pen via bluetooth however it wont write, the eraser button works and it lauches one note however it doesn't ink, amI missing any drivers? Why isn't it working?

Answer:Surface pen on new 2017 spectre x360

Hi, No, it won't work. No one can explain why, only NOT compatible. (a) I've tested HP stylus on MS Surface and it won't work.(b) I've tested HP stylus (same as above) on my loan HP Spectre x360 15" and it won't work I believe at this stage, no universal standard otherwise Belkin, Logitech .... would make heaps of them. Please check the following list which shows 3 HP styluses:      http://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05166879 Stylus for Spectre x360 13-ac0xx is coming soon (still to be tested and probably firmware upgrade).    Please wait. Regards.

Hi, just ordered the Spectre x360 after a lot of googling around about it's active pen support.  I haven't been able to find the official "HP Active Stylus" in my country (Norway), which I've read quite a bit of negativity about anyways, however I found one named "HP Pro Tablet Active Pen" (K8P73AA) which according to a reply by an HP employee in an older thread (http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/Spectre-x360-Active-Pen-Stylus-C...) is supposedly supported by the Synpatics digitizer in the x360. The official documentation however, has no mention of this. I've also read an overwhelming amount of feedback that a recent firmware update disabled the support for the Dell stylus which many apparently found success in, so this is another reason I am uncertain. Could this update have disabled the support for the other HP styluses as well? Before i go out and spend a lot of money on this pen I was wondering whether someone has tried the HP Pro Tablet Active Pen themselves on the x360, or whether any HP employee could confirm this compatibility. Again, this is the black stylus (K8P73AA) (http://www8.hp.com/us/en/products/tablets/product-detail.html?oid=7530365) im looking at, not the silver/white one found here: http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-active-penThe lack of synaptics-supported styluses (and documentation thereof) was almost a real deal-breaker for me since im going... Similar qualities as the HP Active Pen (which are not sold on my country) but with better reviews. I have had no opportunity to use my pen, as it is not recognized in any way by the screen.I have also installed the Anniversary edition of Windows 10 with better Pen Support and it still doesn't recognizes my pen. My configuration is:Windows 10 ProPen and Touch Support with 10 Touch Points

Answer:Spectre x360 stylus

Hi,  Is Dell stylus support HP machines mentioned on its specs ? You are asking HP to support another vendor's product here. From my view: No HP won't support other vendor's products unless HP does not have equivalent products.Dell may be very happy for HP (or other competitors) to support its products, it will sell more and laughing to the bank.Regards.

Hi everyone, I would like to replace the built-in 1TB SSD in my Spectre x360 with a 2TB one (namely, Samsung MZ V6E2 S24 A450BW SSD 960 Evo Nvme) Two questions: 1. Is this possible at all? Here is the Manual: Service Manual Yes it absolutely will support the 2 TB NVME M.2. The display in the 2016 model of the HP Spectre x360 15 4K turned out not to be as advertised, and it is possible that they are using the same display in the new model. The 2016 HP Spectre x360 15 display used the RG/BW Pentile matrix to more or less "cheat" the ability to advertise as 4K UHD 3840x2160, without actually providing the full detail of the resolution. HP Spectre x360 15 false-4K demonstration HP Spectre x360 13 true-QHD demonstration (for comparison, 13.3" model's high res display is true) The new one could be using a completely different display, but given HP's track record with pentile I would say it is better to wait for reviews in order to confirm that. I will update this post or make a follow-up post once I am able to confirm the type of display used in this laptop.

Hi I've been looking for an extra spare charger for the HP Spectre x360 15in 2017 model.I travel between the US and Europe (mainland [Belgium]) a lot and would like a charger with EU plug so I don't need to work with extra convertors and whatnot. I've looked at the repair site but they only seem to show US plug models?Only way in Belgium to get any info is to contact a retailer. I've contacted a few but they don't seem to know either. If not for sale through HP, could a separate cable from power brick to plug work? So 3 point clover to EU type plug. I assume power is drawn through the brick so the cable itself shouldn't matter much. Thanks in advance!

Hi! I have the new HP Spectre x360 AC-series that comes bundled with a pen. I've been using it for about a month and I've been satisifed with the pen performance, but I JUST NOW realized that the pen tip is REPLACEABLE! That's a "wow" moment to me; I never knew the tip could be removed. One minor thing I noticed when I first got the pen was that the stylus tip is hard plastic, which doesn't give a ton of friction with the screen. It's not a dealbreaker, but I owned a Surface Pro 4 in the past and I really dig the additional friction of the Surface Pen to the screen with its soft nib. I don't think shelling out $50 for the Surface Pen was worth it though, but instead, are there replacement tips available for the bundled Spectre x360 pen? Or, can someone tell me if the $10 pack of Surface Pen replacement tips is compatible with the Spectre pen? Thanks a lot!

I received my HP Spectre x360 - 13t-4200 CTO one week ago as well as a new HP Active Stylus.  I purchased both directly from HP.  I have tried four times with tech support to help me get the stylus to work.  Despite being assured that the stylus in indeed compatible with this laptop, they have not gotten it to work. The only solution they have come up with is to reset the computer to factory settings wiping out everything I have spent hours doing to migrate to this new laptop.  In asking them what doing the reset will resolve, they do not know, but that is the fallback answer.  I have received so much conflicting and silly information from tech support staff who actually are not famililar at all with the problem.  They have updated the Intel video drivers and attempted to install firmware for the 15" Spectre but still no success. Does anybody know the steps to getting the stylus setup? Thanks very much.

Hello I am having alot of trouble finding good advice and a list of compatible devices for my X360. After reading alot of forum posts I purchased the Dell Active Pen PN556w which was said to work with the laptop and be excellent. I have bought it and it does not work.  I am unsure if this is a drivers issue, hardware issue or what. i Suspect that many of the reviews are for the G1 which has a different hardware componeant. HP have replaced the screen on the laptop which they reported as faulty but I have tried a bamboo and a surface pen on it and neither of them work.  I bought this exclusively for use with one not and meetings and as it stands it is a lovely laptop except for this crucial point. if the purchased pen does not work, then what pens will? Any and all help given will be appreciated.

Hello All, There was one similar thread, but it seemed to be closed. When the power is plugged in on this new machine (7th Gen CPU / etc., but not the new model with the pen), there is a very faint static noise (possibly to the speakers). With the power disconnected it is not audible. Anyone else hear this?  FYI, it can be heard when the system is in sleep - not just when it is on.  It does not sound like "coil whine" - it could be bad grounding or something like that. R

I am having a same issue and still discussing with a HP Customer Support. My warranty will expire in 3 mo and I really need to resolve this issue.I purchased my Spectre, x360 13.3 in OLED model in June, 2017. I also purchased HP Active Pen (the product name is actually HP Active Stylus which is Synaptics compatible. HP compatible table has a wrong picture. Check product manual for each HP Active pen). I does not work at all. I could not send my PC to HP Cust Support because this PC was for my daughter and she needed it while school was on going. I finally sent this PC to HP Customer Support about a month ago. They changed display and main board. Now I need to test this again, which means I have to re-purchase the HP Active Stylus (Synaptics one) for testing. Then I found this posting. If any of HP Active Stylus won't work with my x360 w/OLED display, then I am thinking about filing a complaint to FTC for a false advertisement.

If you mean the 2016 model with thin side bezels (that didn't come with a pen), no, there is no hardware support for any kind of active pen. If you have a the older 2015 model with thicker bezels, then yes, it has a (pretty horrible IMO) Synaptics digitizer, and you can purchase a pen from HP. Most of the customer reps I spoke to couldn't give me a definitive answer, so this knowledge is my personal research by testing the laptop out myself. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Hi all, quick question: I know HP does not officially support active stylus for the Spectre. But still, I need that! That's why I have to ask before I buy... So, does someone know if the X360 13-4132NG does support active stylus? That's the model with the 512 GB SSD. Thanks!

Guys hav had this computer for over 1 yr. previous to spectre I had used he elite convertible with the passive stylus without any issues (4 years). With the spectre the HP stylus goes from working  to not working. Have to constantly shake it, unscrew the cap and then re tghten. My other tricks are to close it of one mate and then reopen or completely restart the computer. Been over a year year and I butt he computer because the the stylus capability. It seems to me there is some stating that puts the stylus or the tablet n sleep mode.  Note issue occurs not only in one note but also when on desk top point at icons. Yes I am using the HP approved stylus. Also have the Dell stylus from last year that experiences the same issue.  What at is the fix to this problem. Love the computer but will hav to migrate to either apple or Microsoft if n fix.

Problem Solved: The HP Spectre x360 OLED version is NOT pen-enabled. This is a hardware issue. There is no digitizer function built into the screen.  There is no known plan to make it pen-enabled at this time. HP is aware of customer complaints about the misleading ads and is working internally to try and correct it. I know, BUMMER. I am in the process of returning the one I ordered. I had hoped this would be the Surface Killer it could have been... oh well...

Hi dear HP friends!I've had a HP Spectre x360 for some time now, and wanted to get an active pen for it, because I would like to use it for the university. So I took to the internet to find out which active pen that worked best for the spectre x360. I saw some videos and recommendations of the Dell active stylus, so I chose to buy it. Unfortunately, when I'm trying to install the driver for the Dell active stylus, it says that the driver cannot work with my device... What should I do?Please help! ThanksBest regardsLasse Voss

Hello, I just bought a Targus stylus (http://targus.com/us/stylus-for-tablets-and-smartphones-black-amm01tbus) to use with my HP Spectre x360. Unfortunately it doesn't work very well with the touchscreen; I have to press it so hard that the screen wobbles back and forth. I find this strange because it is very sensitive when I use my finger; a light touch is enough. Is there a setting where I can remedy this? I tried Calibrate, but it seemed to only calibrate for location, not sensitivity. Or, would anyone recommend a specific stylus other than the HP Active Stylus? I just want a simple, non-battery-operated stylus to use to draw and take notes without smudging my screen with fingerprints. Thank you,Chuck

Multiple pages on HP's website show the new x360 (Kaby Lake) being used with a stylus. I purchased an active stylus and after being unable to get it to work was told by tech support that the stylus is not supported with the new 13inch Spectre? Are the advertising pages on shop.hp.com incorrect or is there a stylus which works with the new Spectre? The footnotes say that not all hardware works with the Spectre however it seems to be pushing the envelope a little to show someone using the stylus, when apparently none work with this laptop?

Hello. I've been having trackpad issues on my new 2017 Spectre x360 13-ac0xx unit for about two weeks now. Firstly, unlike other techies, I appreciate that the trackpad uses custom Synaptics drivers rather than Microsoft's standard precision touchpads. I've owned both a Surface Pro 4 (w/ type cover) and a Dell XPS 13, which I returned due to their horribly slow and janky Precision touchpads. And although HP has horrible quality control (this is my third Spectre x360 unit, which I recieved 2 weeks ago), I would really like this trackpad issue to be resolved. Ever since I have had the machine, the trackpad has been showing some erratic behavior (which I will describe below). PLEASE NOTE: this is profoundly irritating and I have been trying to troubleshoot this myself for the past few weeks. The previous two Spectre x360 units (bought from Best Buy) did not have this problem, but this third machine (ordered from HP.com) does. There seem to be 3 "separate" problems with the touchpad. The first is that the trackpad sometimes locks up and refuses to track my finger when I'm touching it. The cursor moves on screen only when I fully click-and-drag on the trackpad surface, but otherwise doesn't work. You can see what I mean here: https://youtu.be/idt4_OkkSMA The second problem is that at times, the right click zone expands over to the middle-to-top left side of the trackpad. So, when I try to press down and initiate a left-click, I get a right-click menu ... Read more

Got my Spectre X360 15.6 2017 edition few days ago and immediately notice this very annoying issue. In short, the touch function is disabled for about 2 seconds after using the pen, which means everytime when you finish writing something with the pen, you have to wait for about 2 seconds before the touch screen responds to your finger input.  This is really annoying, it slows down my workflow dramatically. And I have never experienced this kind of issue before on any other devices using NTrig digitizer, and I have used a lot NTrig devices (Fujistu 550, HTC Flyer, Sony Vaio Duos, Vaio Flips, Microsoft Surfaces). But I did noticed similar issues on some Wacom AES devices like the Thinkpad Yoga 14. I do remember HP mentioned somewhere that the pen uses Universal Windows Pen protocol, Is this part of the new protocol? Anyway, please please please, HP! Fix this problem and release a firmware update ASAP, I really like the Spectre X360, You guys did a good job in general, but this is a deal breaker, I would hate to send it back.

Here's a video I made about this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYRJ3erCem4 Now question, does anyone else experience this issue? Were you able to fix it? How? Through all of the solutions I've found on this forum has been HP replacing the laptop in it's entirety. This seems to be a common problem since 2015 that has not been fixed. I've been able to pinpoint it down to the software: the synaptics drivers.

Hello, I've looked up how to get a stylus/pen to work now on the horrendous touch screen software for the newer x360s. I belive this is by installing a new HP FHD Touchscreen Controller Firmware Update firmware from your laptop's specific model. (Although I may be a few steps behind) The problem is that there is no touchscreen firmware update for my 4193nr model.  My questions are: can I use download another 13 inch model's touchscreen firmware to make it work? Or will it be incompatible? But more importantly, CAN HP PLEASE RELEASE A TOUCHSCREEN FIRMWARE UPDATE FOR THE 4193NR AND ALL OTHER SPECTRE MODELS? Lastly, if you guys have any tips circumventing this and making the stylus to work without the firmware, I would be extremely grateful for any of your help. Thanks

Hello, As I've learned the "NEW" 2016 HP Spectre x360 13-w000 (Kaby Lake) does not have a digitizer built-in and thus does not support any Active Pen/Stylus. The only option available is to use some capacitive one. I have a Wacom Bamboo Stylus which performs horribly on my x360. Hello, I just got this computer as a gift. Its intended use is for school. The dual tablet/laptop nature of the product seemed like it would be perfect for school/note taking. I am looking to use a stylus or 'active pen' of some sort for precise note taking (e.g., on one-note). From what I have seen there seems to be no consensus online about whether or not this model is compatible with the active pen. The sales rep who sold this computer said it was compatible but everything I see online suggests otherwise. Many say that the 2016 version is no longer supporting this function--or that to make it work, you must "extract the .bit file," I wouldn't know how to go about doing that. This function is the primary reason for getting this laptop, and I may have to return it if the function is not available. Before I buy any product, I would like a definitive answer. Do these types of stylus's work with this specific product?  If yes, which product(s) should I look into getting that are promised to work? If not, are there any *specific* steps I need to take to make an active stylus work?  I look forward to hearing a response from the community. I will be very dissapoited if I am told a specific pen works, and I purchace it and it does not work. I would prefer not to have to return this laptop, and I would prefer it not be to late for me to do so if I recieve a run-around. Thanks,Happy Holidays.

Like so many posters here, I am now a among the ranks of those complainants that active pen Stylus will NOT work with this model.  HP.  Is there a simple answer, a a clear declarative sentence, for this reported problem by many, many buyers? Frustrating things more is a call to tech support. 1st call:. " I can confirm no pen Stylus will work with your model.". Then, "Checking further literature, only three models of touchscreen HP computers are compatible with a stylus". Next call to tech support on a hunch no two answers will be same.  This time, "Oh, yes.  I can confirm all touchscreen models are compatible with pen sylus". Me:. Are you sure.  Second tech: "Yes, I assure you".  Me: "Can you explain why the first tech stated none are compatible then found documentation that only three were and mine was not one of them?" Answer:. "No, don't worry.  It is compatible".  Me: "When "Pen and Touch menu is accessed in control panel, only provision shosing as active is 'touch', not pen.  Does this mean drivers are needed or not activated unless stylus contacts the screen".  Answer, "Yes". Me: "Which is it".  Answer:. "Both".  "Let me transfer you to pre-sales which will have more details on your particular model".  Pre-sales:. "Why are you calling pre-sales", in father-to-idiot" lecture. Me:. "I was transferred by tech support because, ostensibly, you have mor... Read more

I bought a Dell Active Pen for my computer, and whenever it hovers next to the screen, it is recognized with a cursor in the place it's hovering over, but I cannot open or tap anything with it. Just bought the new 4k 13 inch spectre x360. So far it has been great, except that I am getting nowhere near the advertised battery life. I have already researched these forums, and read the tips located here - http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c00596784 - and here (translated from Spanish to English) - http://h30467.www3.hp.com/t5/Consejos-de-Expertos-para-notebooks/Consejos-de-mantenimiento-de-Bater%... - and nothing has helped.  In just 2 hours of up time with the screen set to 50% or less, I reached 20% battery remaining. This was only with web browsing and some office processses such as email and Microsoft Word. Do I have a bad battery, or is the battery life overall just not as good (or even close to) advertised? The laptop is less than 30 days old.

Hello, I've been using the Dell Active Stylus (750-AAGN) with my HP Spectre x360 for the past few months and it had been working great.  Recently, the stylus stopped working, despite having new batteries in.  I changed the batteries and still it did not work.  It was the most bizzare thing, as it literally just cut out while I was writing and did not show any signs that it was defective beforehand. On top of that, I checked my laptop with an old Active Stylus that my laptop had always been able to recognize, but could not write with it because of a faulty tip on it, and my laptop did not recognize that pen as well.  This leads me to believe that there is something wrong with my laptop (hopefully I am wrong about that). My laptop is fully updated and I checked for driver updates on the HP page for my laptop pertaining to stylus, but could not find something.  PLZ HELP.

I called HP for the TENTH time to ask about the compatibility and set up. I was told the active STYLUS would work, so I bought the stylus. It doesn't work either. The packages list which computers the pen and stylus are compatible with; none of which list the ENVY x360. I would understand if the HP "techs" had told me that my computer is not compatible but instead they say "it may be if it has the right digitizers/driver/capability/etc." So do I need a different computer or is there a way to make this one communicate with either of the writing tools I have bought??

What's the difference between the HP Spectre x360 and the HP Envy x360? They both look the same. The only noticeable difference is that HP Spectre x360 has a Radiance Infinity display, while HP Envy x360 has an IPS display. Having the same specs, except for the display, why is the Spectre x360 more expensive than the Envy x360 ? Moreover, I thought that IPS is better than TN, which is my guess that is the technology used for the Radiance Infinity.

Hi, You've got few questions about those products. Well, come to a store and yoy can see the differences. Better still, you can buty 2 machines and compare.  For build quality, the HP Spectre x360 is much better than the Envy x360 you can also find Pavilion x360 - we are talking about SPECS and BUILD here about plastics and metals about wood and gold. Regards.
