Dell Vostro 3560 TouchPad works but buttons don't, TouchPad tap to click and two finger tap to right click stopped working

Question: Dell Vostro 3560 TouchPad works but buttons don't, TouchPad tap to click and two finger tap to right click stopped working

Dear Support,
I have a Dell VOSTRO 3560 laptop that has an Elan Tech SmartPad touchpad. I like its responsiveness very much.
Unfortunately, I recently spilled a bit of coffee and some of that went under the touch pad left and right buttons. The buttons stopped functioning but the touch pad itself is still very good.
Even before the spill I rarely used the buttons. I always used the touch pad to tap to click and two finger tap to right-click.Strangely though, after the spill when the hardware buttons stopped working, the tapping on the touch pad also stopped working. I made sure that the touch pad still can do tap clicking by uninstalling the Dell TouchPad driver and reverting to the Microsoft Mouse PS2 driver. In that case I can use the tap to click feature but only for 1 finger tap. I do not get any other feature as the driver is the simple generic MS one.
My question is would it be possible to still use the Elan tech provided (Dell TouchPad) driver and somehow configure it to accept the tap to click and two finger tap to right-click? This in addition to all the remaining scrolling and gesture support that the driver implements? I tried all the Dell Touchpad settings applet but nothing changed. Perhaps a registry value setting in the section for the elantech?
What seems to be happening now is that the driver is doing some hardware diagnostics, determining that the hardware buttons left and right are not working, and consequently completely disabling left and right click commands, even those that originate in tapping the touch pad.
Also I would like to add that at one point I connected an external keyboard that has a touchpad and I noticed that while using that keyboard's touch pad, the Elan/Dell TouchPad 1 finger and two finger taps also started working. This continued until I restrated the laptop. After that I couldn't reproduce the same situation. But to me this was a sure indication that we have a software issue that can be adjusted to get the tapping to work again with the Elan/Dell TouchPad driver.
P.S. I have Windows 10 Anniverssary Edition installed. I also tested by booting into Ubuntu Linux but the latter doesn't have native support for the Elan/Dell TouchPad it seems.
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
ThanksRoger

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,
I'm currently operating with a Dell Latitude (E6410) running Windows 7 32-bit. I have the default Alps touchpad built-in, and was recently ecstatic to find the driver for multi-touch on the Dell Support page, something I figured I'd never get privileged to since this doesn't have a Synaptics touchpad.
Everything works as it;s supposed to, as far as the options go under the Dell Pointing Devices menu. However, I noticed that two-finger options are missing, specifically a two-finger right click. This is odd, seeing as there are plenty of other two-finger options, and since two-finger right click has become a standard with multi-touch touchpads.
So my question is, is there anything I can do to get two-finger right click? I don't see any options officially provided by Dell, so I'm totally okay with installing software or drivers from somewhere else, as long as they work. I haven't been able to find anything myself, as it seems every driver and software in the world is developed with Synaptics in mind.

Can anyone please help me figure out the solution to this? My Dell 14R 5437's touchpad isn't properly working lately. It's right-click button and double-tap to right click function isn't working as intended; the left-click button and single-tap to left click function is working ok. When plugging an external mouse, however, I can right click as normal.
I tried reinstalling the driver from the Dell website and it's still not working properly. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I bought my Y580 about a month ago and it has been great. The only problems I've been having with it is with the touchpad. About a week ago the synaptics software on here started to shutdown at random and things like two finger scrolling and swiping from the sides would all stop working. I searched around and downloaded updated software both from synaptic's website and from lenovo driver support. The newest ones from lenovo are the only ones that don't quit at random but now the only thing that doesn't like to work still is the two finger tap to right click. Sometimes it'll work for the first ten min when I first turn the laptop on but then it'll quit. Two finger click sometimes works for right click but not always and two finger tap for right click never works any more. And suggestions would be nice. Thanks.

Hi everyone, new to the forum and I'm hoping you can help me out. My wife has an Aspire E15 (E5-511-P8C8) using Windows 8.1 and a little while ago the click functionality stopped working. The touchpad itself works (it can be used to move the cursor), but it is not possible to make a right click or left click using the buttons.  I've tried the suggestions I could find in the forum (reinstalling IO Chipset and Synaptics drivers, reinstalling all drivers off the Acer website, updating BIOS version), but nothing has worked.  I'm wondering whether it might be a hardware issue? Is there anything else I could try? Many thanks for any and all suggestions! -Alex

Answer:Aspire E15 touchpad click buttons not working

Hi Alex If the touchpad has lost its click (where you press it) then yes - almost certainly an hardware issue. Is it still under warranty?

Hi everybody, My left-click has stopped working on my Thinkpad T420s. I've tried all the methods of doing it on the laptop - by clicking the button below the touchpad, clicking the button above the touchpad, tapping the touchpad, and tapping the red trackball. None of these ways works. Not sure if it's a hardware or software problem, but if it's software, what might be the issue? Thanks.

Answer:Left mouse click not working on buttons or touchpad

Go into the BIOS menu, in under 'Config' -> 'Mouse + Keyboard'. Disable the Trackpad, save and exit. See whether the TrackPoint left click works. If it doesn't, then go into the BIOS again, disable the TrackPoint and Enable the TrackPad.Your problem maybe cause by either the TrackPad or TrackPoint left click button's circuitry short-circuiting.

I recently noticed when using my touchpad I can't click on anything, either by using the tap to click or the left and right buttons underneath. However I can still do everything else with the touchpad, like magnifying and scrolling.I've been using my usb mouse so I have no idea when this problem started. My laptop is less than 2 months old.  I've tried updating the drivers, rolling them back, uninstalling them completely and reinstalling them.I've tried disabling and re-enabling the touchpad.I've even tried rolling it back to factory settings because I thought windows 8.1 was interfering with the drivers. I have no idea what to try next.I don't think it's a hardware issue, since the touchpad is still able to move the cursor, magnify, scroll, do everything else except click. If you have any tips or idea of what I should try next please let me know.

Hi I have problem with built in touchpad on G580. It worked OK for two days then the click stopped working. I can move the mouse pointer but clicking has no effect, I tried a plug in USB mouse and that clicked OK.

After a few days it started working again. Then after two weeks stopped again. I went for a system restore and went back a month and all was ok again - so looks like a driver issue

Click stopped working again so I reinstalled Windows 8 Touchpad driver - didnt fix problem

Tried to do a system restore but going bacl one day didnt fix it and attempt to restore older than that failed.

Any ideas, really annoying

Rob

Answer:G580 Touchpad Click stopped working

hi rob_s_smith,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Do you get the same problem if you're running in battery power?

If you don't, and the Touchpad is working ok when it's working on the battery then the touchpad board is probably getting grounded when it's connected to the charger - see this thread as it's similar to the problem.

If problem perist on battery and AC power then you may need to contact lenovo for service as the touchpad is showing an imminent failure.

Hope this helps

Hey. I bought this laptop couple months ago and suddendly touchpad's right click isn't working anymore. Is it about settings or drivers or is this broken or what...?

Answer:Edge E530c - Touchpad right click stopped working :(

there is no settings for it. If the right click stops working, it means your touchpad right click key is stuck or broken, and as such should seek warranty.

I have the X1 Carbon Touch thinkpad with Windows 8 and I just noticed that I need to click on the touchpad real hard for the click to register. Tapping works fine but clicking requires me to apply a lot of pressure. I have restored the default settings of the touchpad and still have this problem. Are there any known issues with Touchpad click issues and requiring a hard presss?

Answer:X1 Carbon touchpad requires a hard touchpad press and click for click to register

Hi, vtjiggy

Does this apply to the entire TrackPad? Do both left and right-clicking require a great deal of force? You could also try installing the latest Synapatics driver and see if that helps at all. Synaptics is the company that develops UltraNav, which is installed on all ThinkPad systems by default. The latest driver can be found here.

Good luck. Let me know how it goes,
Adam

Well... Thats about it. My left click was working and then all of a sudden. BANG. stopped. Moving the mouse with the touchpad and using the mousepad to left click still works as does the right click button on the touchpad. Any solutions?

Answer:Left Mouse Click on Laptop Touchpad stopped working

I assume you have checked your settings in Control Panel > Mouse Properties?

It will save a lot of time if you can determine whether this is a hardware problem or a software problem.
Try this: Download a copy of UBUNTU. Put this on a USB stick. Boot from the USB stick and choose to Run The Program (you do not need to install it on your hard drive). Then check to see if the mousepad works OK in UBUNTU. If it does then it is a Windows/Software problem. If it doesn't then it is a defective mousepad.

Since I found out the Right click on Dell Touchpad was not working.
I uninstalled its driver, then downloaded the file on Dell website, then reinstall it.
But, the right click on Touchpad is still not working!
I am using Windows 10.
Please advise me how to make it work?
I got a big issue during a discussion with my colleagues. I saw wifi connection, connected but no internet. I need "right click" to do troubleshooter, but I was not able to do so! So shame for that as my colleagues thought I did not prepare everything well!

So I recently purchased a new laptop that has Windows 10 installed (Acer Aspire E5-573G) and I would like to change the way the touchpad taps work. Specifically, I would like a middle click from a three finger tap. It's an ELAN touchpad, if that makes any difference, and I have installed the latest drivers.
Everything I looked up on google said to either use some program from ELAN, or to edit the registry. There currently is no program installed on here from ELAN, and all the google results I could conjure up while looking for a download for the program are people wanting to get rid of it. The only thing in my programs and features from ELAN is what I believe is the driver - "ELAN HIDI2C Filter Driver X64 13.6.3.1_WHQL"
The suggested registry edit also isn't available for me. That is to say, the path "HKEY_CURRENT_USER > SOFTWARE > Elantech" does not exist.
I'm not sure what the correct way I should be going about this is. Everything else regarding the touchpad works as intended, but I have no way of customizing it beyond the settings in windows. And since I have zero interest in having Cortana or action center being on my computer let alone as mouse commands, those settings are completely worthless to me.

Hi guys, I am trying to maintain my doughter's school aptop but encountered something exceding my limited expertise. Since about 10 days the touchpad, buttons and the red thingie stopped working. I have read all the forum issues, uninstalled the drivers and re-installed new ones (first through the lenovo sulotion centre, then the synaptics generic version). About 6 times now. That didn't work. It says "component not present, not working correctly or divers not fully installed, error 24" (translation from Dutch, probably used some incorrect terms).Running windows 10 on this t420. All worked fine untill this happened. I saw that some new mouse drivers have been installed around the day of malfunction but can't find how or where to remove those (still getting used to this windows 10).Any suggestions?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T420 trackpad and touchpad right/left click stopped working

So far, there's just 2 of us with trackpoint / touchpad problems as a result of installing Windows 10.  My post:  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T420-Win-10-Pro-Ultra-Nav-19-00-12-61-Tr... I've combed through this forum and have no one else reporting these same issues; most are reporting that left and right click buttons are working, but the middle button did not work.  In my case, it was the opposite; the middle button scrolled (albeit very choppy), and the left / right buttons were dead.for my Trackpoint.  It's not a hardware issue, as all buttons function as normal in Win 7, but upon installation of Win 10, the buttons do not work.  I went so far as to do a clean install of Win 10 to ensure there were no conflicts between Win 10 and any leftover Win 7 system files, only to end up with the same old left and right button problems. So until the Ultra Nav drivers to enable full functionality of trackpoint / touchpad device, the only solution is to use a physical mouse or revert back to your prior operating system.

So I have had a very... VERY... irritating problem with my Thinkpad. For the first 6 or so months I had the laptop it worked fine. Then, the left click on the touchpad was functioning like the right click (bringing up a menu).  I immediately disabled the touchpad and then used the trackpad right and left clicks which worked perfectly. After another 4 or 5 months, those buttons stopped working altogether. I could still use the touchpad to move the arrow, but I couldn't click on anything. I bought an external USB mouse and that worked fine for another 2 months. Then for a few weeks, it would work on and off. I'd have to wiggle it around in the USB ports to get the laptop to recognize it. (it had nothing to do with the ports... there were 3 of them and they all worked fine). Then it stopped working completely, AND, my laptop refuses to acknowledge ANY USB I plug in.  I have run out of options now. I can't even install anything, download any files from lenovo website. I can't do anything. Does anyone know if it is still salvageable? Has anyone had the same problem? The lenovo digitizer for tablets.... would that work for this thinkpad? (sorry... not as tech savvy as the rest of you) Thanks a bunch,Amanda

I've tried rebooting my 3rd Gen. Hi Just wondering if that is possible? It should be if somebody knows the path (command line prompt to that function) which is then pasted to the 2 finger double tab configure section of the ultranav menu.On the side note, the latest update for the thinkpad ultranav finally made the gesturing and the movement of the touchpad more responsive. I used to have the 2 finger double tap for the windows aero flipping but after the update it was lost and that post i originally made regarding this seems to have been lost in the hundreds of posting on this forum....(Maybe we should have a reference sheet of all the command line shortcuts for simple functions such as right clicking, going to the desktop, switching between applications etc in a list so people can configure their 2 finger double tap or the 3 finger press in the ultranav since all thinkpads these days have the multitouch capibility) Thanks

Hello, im trying to figure out, how to enable 3 finger tap for a middle mouse click on my yoga 720 15. There are some solutions out there suggesting editing the registry, but i don't have the entries they name and no other entries, that could be related to the touchpad for that matter. The device manager lists the touchpad simply as "hid-compatible touchpad" with no further information. I even tried installing the synaptics software on the off chance, that that would work, but it said, that no synaptic device was detected. I recently purchased an XPS 15 9550 and I need middle mouse click in some of my applications. Under touchpad settings, It only allows mapping 3-finger click to Cortana or Activity Center. Does anyone know how I can get the touchpad to send a middle mouse click to my applications?  On previous laptops I have owned, they typically included a Synaptics touchpad, which always made it easy to perform this mapping using a 3-finger click, but it seems like Dell has included something custom and no such options appear to be available. Any help would be appreciated.

I have tried everything. Control Panel/Dell Touchpad (off). Control Panel/Mouse (Touchpad off). Fn/F3 (0ff) but NOTHING will turn it off. The light is on saying it is off but it is still on. Very annoying because when I'm trying to type I touch the touchpad by accident and I'm somewhere else.
Selling this laptop so appreciate any help.

Hi,
Thank you for writing to us!
Since you have tried turning off the touchpad from the control panel (off) and from Fn/ F3 key. We would suggest you to disable the touch pad driver in device manage and then check.
Kindly private message the service tag and email address.

Please Lenovo. Please. When you one finger click on the TouchPad in the bottom right corner, it performs a Right Click action. If you want to ONLY Left Click (Primary) for every one finger click on the TouchPad, no matter where you click on the TouchPad, you CAN NOT DO THIS with the current driver. You've made a lot of updates in the driver, but you can't disable this setting? You are forcing me to have a zone that does Right Click action on the bottom right of the TouchPad. Guess what, I click that spot about 200 times a day and have to mouse the mouse to click out of the TouchPad right click menu, then go back and click again what I want to click on. There is no setting to remove the Bottom right corner for Right Click action. It is always on, unless you turn off the TouchPad. Two finger click performs Right Click action no problem on the TouchPad, but we need the ability to have every one finger click be the Left Click (Primary) action, not a zone in the bottom right corner that always does a Rigt click action. All my other TouchPad issues are fixes such as Scroll delay. I used Change PC Settings in Windows 8.1 > PC and Devices > Mouse and TouchPad > TouchPad Set Delay to NONE T440s, ThinkPad Yoga, X1 Carbon user 1st generation. Windows 8.1 Update. After being a loyal T400S and X220T user for many years, I am extremely disappointed with the new T440S touchpad which eliminated the touchpad buttons. This "improved", buttonless touchpad is almost useless for me. It is clunky feeling, often unresponsive and noisy.  The entire experience is just terrible. No amount of configuration has helped. My cursor rolls everytime I try to click.  Please bring back the touchpad buttons.

Dear all:

New to the forum.  Thanks in advance to anyone able to help.  I have two issues that seem to be related.  Today at some point I could not longer use my right or left click buttons on my laptop.  The touchpad still works in the sense that I can move my cursor and if I tap once on the touchpad (not the left/right buttons) then it will select a link.  There is no right-clicking capabilities on the touchpad itself.
I "attempted" to reinstall the driver.  Not sure if I was successful doing that, but seeing as how half of the touchpad functionality works, I'm not positive it's a driver issue.
After restarting my laptop I tried again to click on the left/right buttons and became frustrated and wanted to see if they were stuck, so I pressed down hard.  My laptop proceeded to shut off immediately.  Frustrated, I disassembled my laptop and checked out the touchpad sensor to see if I could spot something wrong.  Everything appeared to be in tact.  I reassembled and the laptop powered on, yeahh!!
I once again tried to press the buttons and nothing happening.  Again I pressed harder than normal and the laptop shut down.  I was going to disassemble it again however I got halfway before trying to power it on and the laptop powered on again.
My first issue is:  Why is my laptop suddenly shutting off when pressing hard on those buttons?
My second issue is:  How can I fix those button... Read more

For some strange reason, right-clicking the touchpad (bottom-right button) on my Lenovo Y50-70 ceased to work. Left-click still works without any issue. An external USB mouse functions without any issue as well, both left & right click. I am having hard time to believe that the button (hardware) itself broke. This laptop has been treated very gently. Could this be a setting issue? If so, how do I restore its right-click functionality? Thanks.

I like to use the touchpad of the UltraNav with the right thumb, while using the left thumb to press the upper mouse buttons on the x301 (the ones with the red line and the violet dots). However, after each mouse click, the touchpad actually stops reacting for around 2 seconds (reproducibly, therefore I believe intentionally). The same behaviour is not present when I instead use the smaller lower set of mouse buttons. How can I turn off this behaviour? I have already turned off the delay after a keypress in the UltraNav settings, but this has not changed the behaviour of the mouse clicks with the upper buttons.

I got my y510p the other day and I like pretty much everything about it except the touch pad. It seems that if you are going to click something with the right or left click buttons on the bottom of the pad your mouse cursor will jump away from what you were going to click on because the touchpad still tracks movement in the area of the buttons. It's really annoying and I can't believe an engineer would let a touchpad release in a laptop that behaves in this way. I am really suprised someone in product testing didn't find this critical flaw in the touchpad design before it was released. I have tried looking in the settings and all I found was a sensitivity adjustment. I have lowered the sensitivity and it helped a bit but the issue is still there. I also tried installing the Asus touchpad driver as recommended in another thread to give more features but it is actually worse because you loose the sensitivity adjustment with that one installed.  Is there anything I can do or do I just have to deal with the flawed design of the touchpad?

Answer:Make y510p touchpad not register movements over top of the right and left click buttons?

I found some sticky back anti slip material sheets on Amazon. I am thinking about ordering it and cutting it out to fit on the bottom of the touchpad. That will give a nice little grip for the buttons which I didn't have before and will hopefully block out the registration of my finger on the buttons when I click down. I will try this if there isn't a software fix for the issue.

Answer:Touchpad buttons open activity center after windows 10 upgrade, how do i reset them to mouse click only?

This may help, open the start menu, and click settings, and then click the “Devices” icon, then on the left column please select “Mouse & touchpad”. Click on the “additional mouse options” link under Related Settings. This will bring up mouse properties, click the buttons tab and then under Click Lock, uncheck the box for “Turn on Clicklock” and see if that helps.

You may also wish to turn off Tablet Mode, again click the start menu, then settings; you will be able to find Tablet Mode on the left. Turn it off and see if it makes a difference.

Please let me know if any of this helps out.

Answer:Satellite C50-B-189 touchpad and buttons stopped working

Hi, this is due to the pad driver (which is bugged), just kill the process using CTRL+SHIFT+ESC AND THE TAB plus DOWN ARROW to navigate to the target process. I have to do this each starts.

From tomsguide (november 2014):

These fixes don't help, all that happens is, after some time, the touchpad fails again. While Toshiba works on this, I have figured out a quick, effective workaround. This is for my new Windows 8 Toshiba.
Press CTRL ALT SHIFT to get your processes to come up. Find the Touchpad "enhancer" process. End the process. Your touchpad will work fine until next restart at which point just repeat this step.
If you are struggling to end the process without being able to use your touchpad, I found a curious thing out. If you hold a mouse click down, you can move the mouse arrow with the touchpad just fine. Its a bit... inconvenient...but all you need to do this for is to end that process and after that you can use the touchpad normally.

hi! something strange happend to my laptop (ThinkPad T520), yesterday bottom buttons of touchpad just stopped working... upper buttoms seems to work fine, except for one thing, in Ubuntu sometimes they don't work too and I noticed that turning off and on the touchpad helps. In Windows upper buttoms seem to work fine, but bottom buttons still do not work. since bottom buttons issue relates to both OSs I have it looks to be something with laptop itself, I had no problems with touchpad or keyboard for 1.5 years of using it (I even reinstalled Ubuntu yesterday, I thought something happened to my system, but it didn't help, still the same issues, and still I have to turn on/off sometimes...) My OSs:1) Ubuntu 12.04 LTS2) Windows 7 I did not update anything during last few days, and actually I use Windows only to check something (so rare enough), so I'm sure I was not updating anything by myself there. Although I can't say that anything was updated automatically, and I could just miss that it happened. Unfortunately for me I am in the business trip, I am limited to what I can do about it, as well as feel uncomfortable to work with my laptop now (I got used to use my bottom buttoms with touchpad...). Is here anything I could do about it on my own without any risk to damage anything?  thanks in advance for any advice!!!Max

Answer:touchpad bottom buttons stopped working

actually I was wrong regards Windows, touchpad works strange there, by default pressing anything (except for bottom buttons, they do not work at all, as I wrote) opns a popup menu. I've applied all important and advised updated from Lenovo, also I've updated my bios to the last available version (I believe 1.42). Nothing changed, turning touchpad on/off, even in bios, does not change anything there. Using UltraNav (also installed the last available) I turned of extra functionality for touchpad buttons, and now at least upper buttons works in expected way, presing touchpad also do not show popup anymore. after bios updating, in Ubuntu no visible changes: upper buttons function as before, touchpad itself works well, bottom buttons do not work at all. Lokks like I can't do anything about it

Hello,
Yesterday I accidentally spilled some beer on my laptop and it went inside the touchpad. I turned off my computer, disassembled, cleaned it and left overnight to dry completely. Everything is working fine now except the touchpad buttons. I have to press them really really hard to get them to work. They don't seem to be sticky and click quite well.
Is there any way I could fix it? Is it possible to take the touchpad apart? Maybe there is some liquid left somewhere inside it and that causes problems.
The laptop model is Acer E5-571G.
Thank you!

Answer:Laptop touchpad buttons stopped working

If there was any liquid left, something would have short circuited.

Hello everyone. Apologies if the title wasn't clear.

I bought a dell inspiron laptop recently and was having some trouble when I type. My hands tend to rest at times on the touchpad and every time i do, the single click tap takes me to where ever the mouse is located. Usually its in another section of the document that I am writing in, so that I start to type in the middle of a paragraph that I had already written.

In addition, I have installed asenother mou <-- see??? it did it again!

"In addition, I have installed another mouse driver for a mouse to use with the laptop, so I haven't been able to access any mouse settings other than the additional mouse settings. However, the touchpad still functions."

Is there a way to either disable the touchpad when a mouse is connected, or to change its settings while another mouse is connected?

I am afraid that if I uninstall the mouse driver and see about changing the touchpad settings (if possible), that installing the new mouse again would just take away any of those settings that I would change.

All suggestions welcome. If nothing is forthcoming I will attempt to uninstall the mouse driver and change the touchpad settings. I would prefer not to have to manually disable the touchpad

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Dell touchpad set to click after every tap, hard to type with it there

If you're sure your touchpad options don't include a 'disable when typing for X seconds' then a simple utility like this one should help out...

I purchased a T440s a few months ago. Suddenly I am unable to right click on my touchpad in order to open drop down menus, where they are available,or to right click while highlighting text? I manage to do this if  I click on a specific spot around the bottom, middle of the touchpad, but this takes a lot of fiddling around in order to get the precise spot that happens to work.  It is certainly not a practical solution.  Does this sound like a physical hardware issue, that I need to bring my laptop to the depot for, or might this be something else that can be addressed within my settings or some sort of update?   Has anybody else had this specific problem?   Thanks!

Answer:suddenly right click not work on t440s touchpad, only awkward middle click

For the sake of troubleshooting, I should add that when I connect a mouse it works fine but, of course, this too is not a practical mobile solution.  A response from someone from Lenovo on this site, in particular, would be appreciated.

I have Dell Inspiron 4100. The touchpad can sense movement but tap-to-click function doesn't work. The left buttons above and below the touchpad are not also working. I think that this is a hardware problem because it also happens in Linux.

Is this problem repairable? Around how much do you guys think it would cost?

Answer:Touchpad Tap-to-click not working

The cable connecting them may just be loose, you can get the service manual easily from Dell's website. If it is a hardware failure then I believe you have to replace the palmrest assembly, which is easy enough. The instructions would also be in the service manual.

Internal Parts And Assemblies

There's a link to your parts list, the palm rest assemblies are about halfway down. Just take any of their part numbers and search them on ebay to find the cheapest place to buy from. Probably won't cost more than $30 all together.

I'm using the track point for navigation and the touchpad for the mouse click functions, I notice that when I click the touch pad once the laptop registers 2 clicks, this is especially noticeable when using hotmail, i.e. you delete 1 email from the inbox and the next one is also deleted as well. It is as if the de-bounce on the track pad isn't working that well, any ideas what causes this and is there a setting I can adjust to increase the de-bounce period? Thanks J

My son has just purchased a Satellite P850 laptop to use for school work and gaming and has noticed a problem with the behaviour of the touchpad.

When using the touchpad, if you have one finger in the area of the touchpad used for mouse movement, and then try to click the right hand mouse button, the laptop behaves as if you clicked the left mouse button. If you click the right hand mouse button when you are not touching the mouse movement area, it behaves correctly.

We have tried changing various touchpad settings but have not been able to correct this problem. We have also updated the drivers for the touchpad to the latest version from the Synaptics website, but the problem still exists.

Is there a particular driver or setting that gives the correct behaviour of the right hand mouse button whilst still touching the touchpad with the other finger?

Answer:Satellite P850 - Right click on touchpad acting like a left click

> When using the touchpad, if you have one finger in the area of the touchpad used for mouse >movement, and then try to click the right hand mouse button, the laptop behaves as if you clicked >the left mouse button
Sorry but I use touchpad too but in moment when I use one of the touchpad buttons I don?t touch touchpad area at this moment. I have two Toshiba notebooks and I tried to test this on both of them but none of them react on the way described in your posting.

As far as I know such behaviour can be result of ?confused? touchpad.
>... when you are not touching the mouse movement area, it behaves correctly.
In my opinion it is the right way to use touchpad correctly. I don?t think you can change anything using some other touchpad driver. Preinstalled driver is tested and I think the right one.

Just recently observed that the right-click button on my touchpad is not working. This just happened today. I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NR280E laptop and am using Vista. I've checked the device manger, drivers are up to date, no yellow exclamation marks.

Here is what I've tried:

- reinstalled Original Alps Driver a second time using Windows Back up and Recover
- made sure the mouse settings in Control Panel were correct

I think it could possibly be a hardware issue as pressing the right click key is not responding or opening any options, however, I haven't spilled anything on it or dropped it. My last option is to ship it off to Sony but my warranty expired a few months ago, and I looked at the price list and it is crazy expensive.

Answer:Right click button on touchpad not working??

Get canned air and put the laptop partially opened on its side with the right side toward the desktop. Use the canned air to clean out the "clicker" Something may have gotten wedged under the right side.
Your other option, and one I'd tend to not consider doing myself, is find a schematic and take the laptop apart.

For me, I just attach a portable notebook mouse and use it. Mine is 3 1/4" in length and the USB receiver fits inside the mouse so it isn't a hardship to throw that in the case with my netbook.

The touchpad on my laptop suddenly stopped working today.  First, it appeared as though the right mouse button was permanently pressed, so whenever I used the left mouse button, the action for the right mouse button would also happen at various times.  Now, neither of the buttons work at all.  (I can use the touchpad itself to move the arrow around the screen, but not click.)  I've tried restarting, taking the battery out, updating and rolling back the drivers (which are Elantech).  I'm using a USB mouse now and it works fine.  Can anyone help?

Hi.
I own a Toshiba L500-A-1EF and although the touchpad works properly, cursor moves, one tap acts like a click, etc, the click itself is not working.
I've tried updating the Synaptics drivers and playing around with the touchpad settings but sadly with no results.
Can someone help me?
Many thanks.
Pedro

Build 14316
So I came home after a long day to find that my laptop was registering my left clicks as right clicks for some reason.
In case you're wondering; nope I did not install anything recently unless you count a security update pushed by MS, but I doubt that's what caused this, because I installed that yesterday and the laptop was working fine until 30 minutes ago.
Solution?
Keep in mind that since your mouse/touchpad isn't working properly, you'll be working with the arrow + "enter" keys to do all of this.
Head into settings (win + i key combo) > Devices > Mouse & touchpad
This will open the Mouse options window, but to get to the options you need to scroll down to the last option on the left side of the window ( using the arrow keys obviously) which is "USB" then hit the "tab" key and you should jump to the actual Mouse options.
If done correctly the box under "select your primary button" should be highlighted. So now all you have to do is hit enter and select "left"
Bit of a crude explanation. Hope you can follow it, but if you have any questions go ahead and ask.
Just thought I should post this in case anyone else runs into this

Hello community,

I've recently purchases a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 540 and it worked just fine untill earlyer today (bought it around mid June). While i was browsing the internet, some how my touchpad developed a problem. It only registeres right click where ever i click.I've deleted the drivers, even tho they were the knewest ones, downloaded a fresh .exe and installed it after the reset and what not and it still has the same problem. If i turn off the touchpad in the ultranav software and enable only trackapad, the buttons work like they should, the large area in the touchpad registeres as the left click and the small area in the top right is registered as the right click. Tho i can't use the touchpad for navigation.
So clicking doesn't works, well neither does tapping. I can doubletap normaly, but i cannot tap and drag such as selecting a block of text.
Again, i've already tried a fresh install of ultranav drivers and it didn't work. The problem manifested itself during normal browsing, nothing was installed nor changed hardware vise. It litteraly changed in a second. It's a really strange problem and i have no idea how to solve it since the driver reinstall didn't work.

I appreciate any help, thanks.

Hi all,

I'm running latest Windows 10 64bit on E6430. Few days before, tapping on the touchpad stopped working - no click is produced. Everything else is working perfectly. The driver is the latest one from Dell.
When I returned to an old driver which does not support multitouch, clicking works, but this way I miss the multitouch...
I guest that this has been broken with the latest Windows updates.

What should I do to get my touchpad fully functional?

I would like to make my clickpad similar in that clicking down anywhere will left click, but using two fingers will right click. Basically I'd like to disable the left/right functionality from the bottom of the touchpad. Is this possible?

Answer:Inspiration 5755 Touchpad right click not working

Hi MRBO64,
Does the left button work fine? Is the right button stuck or is it mechanically functional? Does an external mouse work fine?
Reseat the palmrest cable and check if it works.
If it still does not work, then install the old palmrest assembly and check if the touchpad buttons work fine.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

I'm baffled.  I can move the pointer all day long with the touchpad, but I cannot select anything by tapping nor with the left and right buttons.  According the BIOS, everything with the ultranav seems normal and active.  I cracked open the palmrest and checked the connection too... looks sat.  Additionally, the fingerprint reader is working fine.  I checked the ultranav in device manager... device appears to be working properly.  I'm running a virus scan right now to rule out any possibility of a conflict. The only positive outcome to this problem is I'm getting better at keyboard navigation  If anyone has any suggestions, please reply.  Thanks in advance!

Hi since buying this laptop I have had quite a few problems with the touchpad - I have installed latest driver says it is working properly but its not.

I cannot use the right click button and sometimes even the left one does not work - it does double click on the pad itself but the silver buttons at the bottom of the touch pad seem to not want to work and sometimes you need the right click in tasks you are undertaking.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Answer:Equium P300 - Touchpad's right click not working

Hi

Does the touchpad work using an fresh OS from the Toshiba recovery DVD?
I mean we have to find out if this issue can be related to the software or hardware problem.
I read a lot about some touchpad troubles after installation of mouse driver or software?
So it would be very interesting to known if the touchpad issue and strange behavior would also appear using a new, fresh reinstalled OS.

Hi
Running Win10 on an Acer E5-511-C46Y.
I have an Elantech touchpad which every so often (maybe weekly) decides it's no longer going to do tap to click (my preferred setting) and is going to behave as though I am clicking and dragging the whole time. So I have to click instead of tap. It's mighty annoying.
I have done all the obvious things - driver up to date, BIOS version is the latest, settings are fine and disabling/enabling has no impact. The only cure seems to be turning the computer off and on again (who knew?!)
Acer say reset, but suspect that's the recommendation for every unsolved issue.
Is there a way to restart touchpad and reload all the drivers (essentially, to do what the laptop would do when rebooting) but without restarting?
Many thanks in advance...

I have a brand new Satellite L50 CI3 laptop. However, it seem there is a fault with the left and right buttons on the touchpad.

The right click behaves like a left click i.e. it does not open a menu.

The left click cannot drag and drop, this includes when using scroll bars.

I've reinstalled everything but nothing has changed. Is this a common problem? Is this likely to a problem with the hardware or software?

Answer:Touchpad right/left click is not working properly on Satellite L50

Hi

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there. Have you noticed this issue from he first day of usage?
I mean when you start your notebook for the first time it has original factory settings and everything should be OK.

If I understand you right there is some reaction when you use touchpad buttons so what you can try is to set all touchpad options to default settings.

When using the touchpad on my new laptop the right click works fine when I am not moving the cursor
however when I have one finger on the touchpad such as my index finger and try to press the right button with my thumb it only ever registers as a left click.

This seems like an intentional function so I hope one of you has a simple solution.

Answer:Satellite P850-02C - right click is not working while touching touchpad

Hi

I think you will need to disable the option called Momentum.
This can be done in the Synaptics touchpad settings (control panel -> mouse -> Synaptics tab -> Settings button)

Expand the option called ?Pointing? and remove the mark from ?Momentum? point.

Dell Latitude - XPsp3

This is a problem with the built in mouse pad. I left click something like the desktop and the options menu comes up as though it was a right click. It's not a software setting, as I've checked them all, and I've reinstalled XP.

The only (temporary) fix I can apply is to plug in a usb mouse. Then the touchpad mouse will act appropriately. But it reverts back to this issue upon reboot.

Should I update the BIOS?

thanks
