I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Dell WD15 Desktop Dock - Step-by-step driver/firmware/BIOS installation instructions for XPS, Latitude and Precision notebooks [UPDATED 04-22-16]

Hi Brian
Thanks for being active on this issue. (This thread was closed - so had to use the TB-15 Thunderbolt thread above this one). Thanks for opening this one for WD-15
I've been having  most of the problems mentioned in the other Thunderbolt dock  thread .. USB problems, fan noise, not recognising on startup,
I tried the driver list above (for 5510 win7 64) and some refused to install because they were for xps product not  precision. However I when on 5520 support page (for the nth time) and found a new USB driver. ie > Chipset_Driver_V2WY5_WN32_1.16.32.1_A01.EXE
I've installed that but NOPE ... still has USB problems eg stuff like usb (2) keyboard not working. BUT unplug/replug the dock at USB C connection at laptop and it works !! (but this is a PITA and probably will wreck the socket in the long run).
I guess my point is please sync the support page and this support forum if you can, we all love Dell but would appreciate some reciprocating :-)

Answer:Dell TB15 Desktop Dock - Step-by-step driver/firmware/BIOS installation instructions for XPS, Latitude and Precision notebooks [UPDATED 04-22-16]

Unfortunately I see no updates to firmware or drivers from what I already have for the TB15 and my XPS 15 9550. I have experienced issues with the Realtek USB GBE Ethernet Controller Driver (generating BSOD's) and the mini-Displayport connection from the TB15 to an external monitor (screen blanks out). Time is running out for me. I will be forced to return my TB15 this week.

This last week I trashed the Dell Dimension 2350 that I had used for years when I had
a rash of functional problems with it, a few of which Techguy solved for me, and others that simply became time consuming and made it no longer worthwhile keeping the machine.

I bought Dells 530s less costly computer which is due to be delivered today or Monday and the question I have pertains to the easiest way to install my currently "in use" internet connection that functions quite well on my spare computer..also a DEll model C521.

The same modem and router that currently works on the 521 was working well on the old PC that's been discarded...On both pcs, I had to phone and "get walked through" the installation of the intenet set up by one of Embarq's tech guys...The instruction sheet that came with the original subscription to the Embarq service for internet seems simple enough but didn't work for me on either of the pcs and required about a half hour on the phone with the Embarq tech in order to get it to work.

"Step by step"... can you do it?

Hiya

This step-by-step guide describes the configuration of a Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP)-based site-to-site virtual private network (VPN) connection using five computers in a test lab. The VPN connection described in this guide enables you to simulate and observe Microsoft® Windows® Server 2003 site-to-site VPN functionality. The VPN connection described in this guide is for testing purposes only, and cannot be used in a production environment.
This guide assumes familiarity with Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), IP routing, and the capabilities of the Windows Server 2003 Routing and Remote Access service.

Hi guys,

I have been having a number of driver woes lately (BSODs), so I decided to reformat and do a clean install. But I keep on getting a MEMORY_MANAGEMENT BSOD as it was completing the setup. I tried 3 times, it happened 3 times, like clockwork.

I have heard that there is a problem with Vista x64 installation if you got more than 2GB of RAM, could it be the same problem with Win7 x64?

Answer:[Win 7 x64] BSOD on install (during completing installation step)

Wipe the HD before reinstall. SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Test your RAM using memtest86 CD for 5-6 passes. Remove all but 2gb of RAM to try install.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS version update, set SATA controller to AHCI first, then IDE if ncessary.

Hello i Want to know how to update my Lumia 521 to Windows 10,
that is working now !!!

Answer:How to update my Lumia 521 to Windows 10 Step by Step Guide that works 2016!

I wondered the same about a Lumia 520, then found that if it can be done at all, it can only be done with difficulty, and little certainty of success. If I recall right, it requires bootloader unlocking, and changing the phone's identity to fool the update server into thinking that it qualifies for a W10 upgrade. It's probably a breach of the TOS, and from what I've read, not worth bothering with.
Edit. I've just come across Conan143's magnificent Guide about this sort of thing:

Ok, I want to be clear on this. I have an onboard video card. (Intel 82845) I want someone to judge how im putting in my new card, because when I put in the new one, the monitor constantly flickers, and freezes, then refreshes itself. (Turns off then back on very quickly). This happens once I update it's drivers. OK, so here it goes.

1. I disable the onboard graphics card, and I let the computer turn off.
2. I unhook all cables, and remove the cover on the hard drive.
3. I touck the case (Anti-static)
3. I remove the previous (Onboard card) from the slot.
4. I insert the Nvidia Geforce FX 5500 card, screw it in, and reattach the hard drive case.
5. I plug in the computer again, and hook the monitor to the card, then turn it on.
6. I install the drivers off the CD, and the flickering problem arrives.
ALT. 7. I uninstall the recent drivers, and install the newest drivers for the series, and still get the flickering problem

(Am I installing the card right? Is it something wrong with the card itself, or the computer?)

Thank you,
Kam

Answer:Step by Step VC installation

You say you removed the (onboard card)....onboard means its intergrated in the board and you have to disable it in the Device Manager for the new card to kick in.

After you installed the drivers for the card did you re-boot?

When doing a clean installation Windows 7 everything seems to work fine until the middle of the Completing Installation step. At a point in it the installation says "Setup will continue after starting Windows" and the system begins a reboot. It shuts down, starts the reboot, has the Starting Windows message showing, the four little spots of color move around and grow larger and then merge into the windows symbol but then all action stops. No hits on the HD and the CD reader stops.

Any suggestions about what is causing the problem or what to do?

Answer:Installation stops during Completing Installation step

I suspect the video driver. can you boot into safe mode? if so you can get and install the driver for your card. You could really help by finishing your system specs when you resolve your current situation

I will try to be to the point here. A while back I had a problem with my computer and slicked the hard drive, and when I went to reload, I realized I did not have some of the drivers for the system. I tried to download drivers for my CD Rom and CD Burner, and found the one I needed. It was a dos based program and seemed to be loading the drivers needed, but upon restart, this is all I get:

IBM
Starting Windows 98
LITE-ON IDE CD-ROM DEVICE DRIVER VERSION 2.1
COPYRIGHT (C) LITEON TECHNOLOGY CORP. 1994-1996 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
PRIMARY MASTER
PRIMARY SLAVE
SECONDARY MASTER CD WRITER IDE 8X32 1.5
15.
SECONDARY SLAVE _

And then the computer will not continue to load windows. I can start it by doing the step by step option and answering no to any question regarding my CD drives. I also can not find my sound card. I am quite the novice when it comes to computers and I guess one day I will learn to leave well enough alone, but until then, I could really use some help. My system is as follows,

Win 98se
566 intel celeron
40 gig hard drive
CDWriter IDE 8x32
LITE-ON

Answer:Windows 98se will not load without me doing step by step logon

What you need is an OEM WIN98SE boot up and install floppy.

With this floppy you boot from it and it sets up windows for you into audit mode.

You only have to press the key once during the entire operation

I am really new to programming, at least in the feilds of c++ and visual studio. I bought visual basic step by step, returned it and then got visual C++ .net...both put out my microsoft press...I was just curious if this book is good for me to start out on...im just trying to learn C++ in all its glory...not just for games...If you have tried this book what do you think or should I get a different one that is better for beginners?

Answer:Visual C++ .Net Step by Step Book By Microsoft

I am also new to programming and am taking a class right now. We use "Problem Solving with C++ (4e)" by Walter Savitch and the free borland command line compiler (http://www.borland.com/products/downloads/download_cbuilder.html)

I have found them both to be very beginner friendly.

Hope that helps...

Hiya steellchick,

Proceed as follows please :-

Step 1

Step 2

Please download Rkill and save to your Desktop.

Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
If using Vista or Windows 7 right-click on it and Run As Administrator.
A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
If you get an alert from the rogue program that RKill is a threat, leave that alert open and re-run RKill again.

Step 3

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
Alernative D/L mirror
Alternative D/L mirror

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

Hi all,

this is going to be long enough already - but hopefully worth it, please bear with me - so straight to the point:

Would call myself an advanced computer user, but far from being a real geek. Installing and working with loads of different applications quite frequently without major problems, and so far reasonably successful at keeping my machines clean and running ok.

Inherited an old laptop that I decided needs a format and reinstall before I can use it. This will be the first time I do that this comprehensively.

I've done some reading and came up with below plan how to do that, step by step. I am aware that this is probably far from the ideal way though, so I would highly appreciate any criticism, suggestions and other thoughts as to what I could or should do better - since I'd prefer to do it once and do it right.

I am aware that this is a lot of reading and thinking for you; I am hoping that possibly, maybe, you might be able to use this as a starting point to build an instruction tutorial along the lines of "from an empty computer to your very own perfect machine in 97 easy steps" or the like (which I have searched for, but didn't really find anywhere). If that's not of interest, I just hope that someone still has a few minutes to help me optimise this

Here goes:

I have:

Greetings, Mariku.

Wow - kudos for a good Saturday morning read. I skipped my regular MSNBC perusal because you pretty much caught me up on the latest headlines...

I'll just throw in some casual observations, in no particular order - I'm sure others (both from myself and from fellow MGs) will follow.

1. Partitioning: what size HD are you planning to use? Personally, I like the C: (operating system) + D: (data) format, but size does matter in this case.

2. Ad-aware has become redundant - SAS and Malwarebytes should be sufficient.

3. Normal caveat about HijackThis: it will break a machine if not used carefully.

4. There have been several threads here lately about defraggers: do a search through the MG forums, get some opinions.

5. Careful with Google Earth: if left unchecked, it can quickly gobble up hd space.

6. RAM - IMO, get your memory and any other hardware sorted before delving into the software world.

I'm already tired of typing: to be continued...Good luck to you!

Dear members,
My system specifications are given below. I want to install windows 7 Service pack 1 as the latest version of the Itunes require that. Now, I am a beginner when it comes to technology. therefore, I require step by step guide to completely make my system running perfectly.

1) the first thing that I require is windows 7 sp1 cd . I have that.
2) after windows installation, it is the list of drivers and their availability that drive me crazy. I will be needing
a) sound driver.
b) wifi driver.
c) mouse touch pad driver.
d) bluetooth driver.
e) and an anti-virus too.
Please let me know any other drivers I will need and from where to download them. I currently have all the drivers in my PC , so it is even possible that I may transfer them to USB and then again re-install them.

Hello.
I wanna know how to install Vista on my computer, which has XP installed already.
I don't want the Vista to overwrite the XP, because i don't think I will be satisfied from that OP.
So how do I install two OP's on one computer? I need a guide to it or you can tell me easily?

Answer:Need a Guide to Install Vista. Step By Step.

You'll need to create a new partition on your drive, you can use GParted (free) to do this, use the live CD, and once that's done, install Vista on the new partition, and your set.

If that's not enough information, try this.

I'm running Win8 CP 64-bit.

I ran the Upgrade Assistant program & purchased my license/key.
I cancelled the download as I already have the RTM from a few months ago on a bootable flashdrive.

I boot from the USB drive, choose my location from a standard looking Microsoft dialog, click Install.
Oh, I chose to keep my current programs. Don't really want to track down and customise about 30 odd extra programs if that can be avoided.

It then says to remove the install media & restart the computer as normal. It says that setup will continue after that, but it doesn't.

Note: I edited the cversion.ini so it will upgrade over my version.

How can I check the reason? Is there a windows setup log somewhere?

hello all, this is my first post here,

ive installed vista home premium 64 bit in the past and had no problems whatsoever,

but i had to change harddrives and reinstall windows with a clean install but you know near the end of the installation it asks you what network location you want (home, work, public) i never got that this time. and i thought windows didnt install correctly so reinstalled windows again(yes i installed windows twice on a brand new hard drive.....)

but even the second time i installed windows i still didnt get that network selection screen. ive got it in the past but this time i do not get that option and vista automatically set it to publick network when i was in windows.

everything for me was the same as this tutorial below, but the only screen i did not get was the Step Two, picture #7.

Whenever we go for XP OS installation during all step,
when we required to select Formation of Partition throough some option.
I know diff between NTFS and FAT,

But
What is the diff. between
" Format the Partition using the NTFS file system <QUICK>"
and
"Format the Partition using the NTFS file system"

which should be select Option first or Second. (if installing Windows XP home Edition)

Answer:Windows XP Home Installation Step

Differences between a Quick format and a regular format during a "clean" installation of Windows XP

When you choose to run a regular format on a volume, files are removed from the volume that you are formatting and the hard disk is scanned for bad sectors. The scan for bad sectors is responsible for the majority of the time that it takes to format a volume.

If you choose the Quick format option, format removes files from the partition, but does not scan the disk for bad sectors. Only use this option if your hard disk has been previously formatted and you are sure that your hard disk is not damaged.

If the Windows 7 install disk is one you burned yourself it may be a bad burn and needs to be done again, if so this would be the first thing to try.

Use the free ISO burner at the link below to burn another at a speed of now more than 4x and select to let the program to verify the disk before it finishes.

hi indead. welcome to the windows 7 forums.

do you have another computer that you can download the bios to?

once downloaded i would suggest that you boot your laptop to the bios and update the bios using a USB stick with the bios on.

i would also suggest that you browse the dell support pages for information on how to do this. Once completed start your reinstall of win7.

please make sure that you know what you are doing when flashing bios. if you get it wrong you may end up with a dead laptop.

If anyone can direct me with what SSD to buy, how to install it, what to avoid, what screwdrivers to use, and steps to take after putting in the chip. Also, I am looking to install this as a secondary drive; meaning to still use the HDD as my primary container for files. Guys i need your help on step by step how to reformat and re-install win xp to my toshiba sattelite A40.

Thanks
Rick

Answer:Step by Step reformating and Install Win Xp

Hi Rick and welcome to TSF !

What's the exact model of your Satellite A40 ? (something like A40-241 for instance)

Make sure to backup all your personal stuff to some external drive before you start the recovery process.

Did you get any recovery CD's with the computer ? If not then during startup look for some message telling you to "press xx to start the recovery process". Booting the computer with the recovery CD's or on the recovery partition should give you the possibility to do a complete system restore.

If you need to format and reinstall because of some virus or some crashes then tell us about it. A malware infection needs to be taken care of before attempting the recovery and hardware problems won't be cured by a re-installation of XP.

Hello to everybody,

I'm italian, I've a Satellite A300 with Vista Home Premium, I payed 30 euros for the free upgrade to Windows 7 that reached my house yesterday. I received 2 DVDs:
- 1 to "make ready" my laptop : *TOSHIBA UPGRADE DVD*
- 1 to upgrade the O.S. : *WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM UPGRADE DVD*

+The first step:+ to use the first DVD: all right, "the system is ready to install Windows 7, please insert the second dvd". When I insert the second one, I accept the license and after that, the first step of istallation: *"system compatibility check"*
*This steps is my problem.*

I restated more than 10 times the praxis but it jams at that step, I left laptop at this step all night long but today morning it was still there, no advances, it's obvious that there's a problem, but I cannot understand if it depends on my laptop or on the DVD.

I tried to start the laptop with Windows 7 DVD inside, the system start by the DVD but it ask me to format the partition in which are vista files and this is not an upgrade. I bought an upgrade just to not delete previous programs and to not format the first partition of my laptop's disk.

How to do, whom can i turn to?
Does anyone have the same problem?
Does anyone know an escape?

thanx 4 your replies

I don?t know if you read this but here is a step by step upgrade instruction:

As you can read before upgrade you have to remove some programs if they are installed on your computer.

Was soooo much easier with Win 98. The only one I can get to install successfully is the 52.16 (nvidia) from the Win update site.
The others I have downloaded(from nvidia) will not install, no matter what hoops I jump through.

Here is the way I am trying it...what am I doing wrong?

First I uninstall the nvidia drivers in "add, remove...etc.

Reboot to safe mode and use a driver remover program.

Reboot and try to cancel the "new hardware found" message, and run the "exe" file for the XP certified drivers I have downloaded...reboot...No drivers installed

Then, I reboot and let Windows try to use the "new hardware found" program...and point it to the driver files I have downloaded...and it says they are not compatible(nvidia says they are "certified for XP" so why do I get this message?

I've always wanted to know how to do this on my own. Could someone give me step by step instructions on how to completely erase all information from one of my hard disks (I have two) and leave all the information on the other disk. Then how to re-install windows XP and all the necessary drivers etc. Then (I know this is really getting complex) could someone tell me the best possible anti-virus software and anti-spyware software available (preferably free). And I don't think I need a firewall because I have a router, am I correct? Finally I would like to know how to create and employ a rescue-disk. Hello,

I have created and stored images of my C and D (restore partition on C: drive) drives (using Macrium Reflect) on an external drive in case of an emergency.

I thought, it will be better to have a step-by-step guide in case my hard drive fails. My experience tells me that though these things sound simple, in reality they are NOT that simple when done hands on.

Is there such a guide or a link to such a guide ?

Thanks a LOT

Does Adobe Professional 8 do that? If so, is there a step by step ? And what file format do you scan it?

Answer:Is there a step by step guide on Acrobat Prof. 8 to scan 100 pages document?

It depends mostly on what type of scanner you are using. On a multi-feed scanner, it happens automatically. On a single sheet scanner, like a flat bed scanner, it will prompt you after each page if you want to continue, or finish the file.

Hi,
First let me say that I am not a computer expert, so I am not especially well-versed in all of the computer jargon. I apologize in advance for that. I have an Inspiron All-in-One 2330 that is about 2.5 years old.  I recently noticed that the left side of the screen was looking blurry, so I ran a diagnostic test. Apparently the hard drive is operating outside of the parameters or words to that effect. It is recommended that I replace my hard drive.
I am not inside the warranty, so I have to do it myself. This scares me. Can someone point me in the direction of explicit instructions of (1) how to actually replace the hard drive, and (2) how to put the operating system (Windows 10) back on my computer.  I am currently backing up my files, so that is one thing I know how to do!
Thanks in advance.

Hello

Recovery installation is very simply.
# Switch your notebook ON and press F12 several times
# When the boot menu is shown put installations disc 1 in optical disc drive
# In boot menu choose CD/DVD and press ENTER
# When the ?Toshiba Recovery? Window is shown just click on next
# On next step ?Summary? should be shown > confirm with next

Recovery installation should start. Just follow menu on the screen and put next installation disc when necessary. Please try this and I hope everything will be OK.

Hiya

Putting this in here, in case other miss it, as its also in Security. Sticking for a week

A remote code execution vulnerability exists in Step-by-Step Interactive Training because of the way that Step-by-Step Interactive Training handles bookmark link files. An attacker could exploit the vulnerability by constructing a malicious bookmark link file that could potentially allow remote code execution if a user visited a malicious Web site or opened a malicious attachment that was provided in an e-mail message. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system. However, user interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability.
Affected Software:

• Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 and Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
• Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 and Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2
• Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit Edition Service Pack 1 (Itanium)
• Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit Edition Version 2003 (Itanium)
• Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
• Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1
• Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for Itanium-based Systems and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 with SP1 for Itanium-based

Well my home network is on it's way out (again). Some of the computers need replacing, the permissions are out of date, virus software etc etc. So I want to start from scratch. I wonder if anyone could point me to a "step by step guide" or help me put one together?

Current setup using my 1mb ADSL via IPcop, win2k3 domain controller, win2k fileserver, exchange 2003 mail server, symantec av... Clients mainly use XP, several on win2k.

I'll guess at the first step(s)-

Format all the machines (after backing up any important bits to dvdr)

Where to next? Should I combine the Domain Controller/Fileserver into 1 machine?! Should I set this up before I start install windows on the clients? Should I use RIS? Should I use SMS to deploy software etc? What logon scripts are useful for family (i.e. mapping mp3, photo, download, documents etc....

Thanks

Answer:Step by Step Setting up Home/Office Network (w/Domain)

I am currently working on a small end guide for something like this. The guide will be on setting up a home server using Windows 2003 server. I decided to not add in Exchange because my site isnt a true networking site. I will post more info here when it is ready.

Do you plan on putting everything on 1 server?

I have a hard drive ....sitting in my laptop case.
I put Ubuntu (Hoary Hedgehog) on it, and every
application looks fine, but it just won't network.
It's an old Dell inspiron 3800, and I'm using an
old Sony Ericsson GC79 nic. I don't even know
where to start. It was easy enough to install,
everything: sound, keyboard, monitor...works
with the exception that even during the install
networking had to be skipped, and not because
of the card I'm now using, but because, it seems
it couldn't find the port (it's an old laptop; uses
PCI for external sound cards and nics) it was looking
for an ethernet port, and I didn't know what to tell it.
I think I'm gonna need the kind of help that'll leave you

worth more than my pride right now. Flame me if you
absolutely must, I'll understand, but please, give me
a clue so I can finally stop using this Windows drive.

Hello Friends, I have Lenovo T61 laptop thats 3 years old.  Model 6459CTO.  I have updated the BIOS twice in the past within windows Vista using lenovo's BIOS updates, and both times BIOS update went smoothly without any problem.  I last updated my BIOS more than 6 months ago, and the laptop was working fine Two days ago, when browsing photos on Flicker website, my laptop screen went white with very thin blue vertical lines.  It seemed like the laptop was working but only the screen turned white.  All the indicator lights seem normal.  No beeps also.  I can turn-off laptop using the power button. I have tried removing battery, switching off, etc.  Disconnected all USB device and booted, still get same white scren. I tried removing CMOS battery, but still i get white screen.  I tried removing one of my two RAM sticks and booting with single module, still same white screen.  So, its not a RAM problem.   I even opened my laptop and checked LCD cable, it was not loose.   Every time i power on the laptop, i get this white screen.  I cant even see the lenovo boot/post screen.  Unable to get into BIOS. My laptop has Nvidia 140M graphics; i hope that is not the problem. So, next i connected my old desktop CRT monitor to laptop.  Now, i can see lenovo logo on boot, but it is slightly blurry with lines.  Soon after lenovo logo, i see a screen full of garbled characters like the... Answer:T61 BIOS update bootable CD menu step-by-step required

My advice is... Don't Do It!!! Never attempt to update the bios on an unstable system. In your case you have classic symptioms of nVidia GPU failure, so there probably isn't much you can do to make it worse, but a bios doesn't suddenly go bad or wear out and updates are only needed to fix specific issues of compatibility, usually with new hardware or to fix problems that have been discovered after the machine was released. A bios update won't do anything to fix your problem, and unfortunately it looks like you'll need a motherboard.

Guys,

The time will come when all of us will have to renew our anti-virus/security software. Many of us have Norton (Symantic) security/anti-virus software. Could TSG provide for us any information on what we will need before we go to the Renewal Center, as well as a list or additional information on what we need to do to insure that our software is renewed successfully?

Any pricing information with regard to renewal, could also be helpful to many of us. Thanks in advance.

How to use recovery/backup disk -Windows 8
I’m trying to find user friendly, step-by-step instruction how to use backup disk with Windows 8 on it burned on USB stick.
I need to reload and start the whole Windows 8 system the way it was when the computer was brand new.
Did search on web - there are variety of instructions but with lots of tech. jargon, intricate arrangements with BIOS tweaking, entering command lines, etc.
which is daunting for an ordinary PC user like me.
(Strangely, Mac users can reload and restart their whole system very easily with just a couple of clicks.)
My big question is:
Could someone with practical experience, please,
help me with a step-by-step, plain English exact instruction on how to reload Windows 8 from the USB backup stick, from inserting it into the computer to the very last step?
My PC is a laptop Toshiba, about 1 yr. old.
Thanks in advance to anyone who is so kind to help me.

Answer:How to use recovery/backup disk -Windows 8? A step-by-step instructions,please?

Most laptops come with an instructions manual supplied to tell how to use the recovery disk/usb and usually how to do a factory restore from the recovery partition already on the laptop without the recovery disk/usb. If you cannot find the instructions on the laptop you can download them from the Toshiba website.

Disclaimer:  This tutorial was written for absolute n00bs!  I mean the "I've never seen a command prompt/terminal before" or "What's Ubuntu?" kinda n00b.  For those experienced Linux users, my sincerest apologies.  The initial fix for my Lenovo sound problem worked until the next reboot.  When my pc booted into Ubuntu just after the fix the sound no longer worked.  I've found that putting the computer on standby and waking it up revives the sound, but plugging the headphones in won't cutoff the front speakers (once again).  At the end of this post I'll explain a simple way to mute the front speakers while keeping the headphones on.  Open your terminal.  This can be accomplished a number of ways, but if you have the latest Ubuntu installed you can find the terminal by going to: Applications>Accessories>Terminal  (The Applications dropdown is in the upper-right hand of your screen). Copy this code:  sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-baseNow paste the code in your terminal by right-clicking in the terminal and selecting "Paste" from the dropdown menu.Don't try the Ctrl-c and Ctrl-v shortcuts here, it will not work.Once the code is pasted press your Return or Enter key.You will be prompted for your password. Hello, I need help with step by step instructions on how to use Hiren's cd to correct the lsass exe error.

This is what happened:
My system crashed, got blue screen error <windowsroot>\system32\hal.dll

I followed the MS instructions.... which created the new problem "lsass.exe, password not valid, reboot). I am running XP PRO, because of this error I can't boot up windows & I can't get into recovery console, don't have administrators password. I researched google and found Hiren's CD. Not sure exactly what to do from this point. I also found a possible solution on google:

Working Solution! - Without swapping HDD, re-installing windows or losing data.

This is what worked for me.

Requirements:
1) System Restore enabled in windows.
2) NTFS Dos Pro and a Boot CD/Disk - Preferabbly Hiren's Boot C (which is loaded with all the apps you need). Hiren's Boot CD (http://thanki.tk or torrentspy.com)
3) Don't use the system.bak file located in windows\repair.
4) Don't assume that either of the _regis~1, ~2, ~3 or ~4 files in a RP\Snapshot folder are the registry files you need - they are not.

Steps.
1) In your BIOS, set 1st boot device to CD.
2) Reboot with Hiren's Boot CD (or similar).
3) Load NTFS DOS Pro. (in the NTFS Ext2Fs Tools menu on the Hiren CD). You can skip Checkdisk
(use pro instead of regular NTFS as it lists long file name details)
4) Once loaded, the 2nd last line of text indicates the new temporary drive letter of you... Read more

Objective: Upgrade an 18 month old HP Pavillion/Vista machine (which may have a trojan as I'm constantly getting bounced mail error messages to addresses I don't send to) with external Seagate 1.5TB Free Agent drive none of which has been maintained or backed-up recently; to System 7 with online automatic back-up. I also want to upgrade my Office 2003 to Office 2010 at the same time. I've already purchased Windows 7 Home Premium (upgrade) and Office 2010 Home and Business. I have a Dell Dimension 5100, since about a day ago my computer won't turn on and the power button light blinks amber. After looking at my computer a little bit I noticed my front USB port all jumbled up and broken. Looking around some forums I noticed that, the USB being jumbled was the problem with the computer not turning on, so I was wondering how to remove my Front USB port. A step by step guide would be nice. I just don't want to pay for geek squad or something to come over and fix it.

Hello everybody,

im thinking about to install Windows7 on my nb 100. But I have some question.

1. How can I install the dvd version of windows 7 on my nb 100. Is this tool from Microsoft the right one?
http://store.microsoft.com/Help/ISO-Tool

2. Will the Recovery Cd of Windows will work, after I format the nb 100?

3. Where can I download the NB100 Windows 7 drivers ?

4. Is there maybe a step & step guide how to install windows 7 on nb 100?

I would be grateful if you could help me

Marco

Answer:NB 100 and Windows 7 - Searching step by step guide and drivers

Hi

1) You can install Win 7 using an Win 7 DVD or you can purchase an ISO file (image) and could create an bootable DVD or bootable USB flash drive.
The NB100 does not use an internal DVD drive. So if you would like to install Win 7 from DVD then you need to purchase an external USB CD/DVD drive. But you could also create an bootable USB flash drive and could install Win 7 from such external USB flash drive.

2) Yes, it will function. The recovery disk should set the notebook back to the same state like at the first day of purchase.

3) I think NB100 has not been created for Win 7 because this is a ?netbook?.
Win 7 would not run fast enough? of course you could install it but the Win 7 needs a lot of hardware power and recourses like Vista and I assume NB100 does not supports such devices powerful CPU or GPU.

4) I doubt such instruction exists?. I mean the Win 7 drivers are not available for NB100. So how to make a installation guide without any Win 7 drivers??? But as mentioned above; you can install it using external drive. The Win 7 drivers have to be collected at your own hand?.

Its a WD SATA 320gb HD

and someone showed me this link: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Install-Windows-XP-On-SATA-Without-a-Floppy-F6-47807.shtml

I really think this could be used to fix my problem, that might be whats causing it all along!

I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to build me a complete step-by-step process to installing these drivers and stuff.

All specs for the computer can be found here: http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/acer-aspire-ax3200-u3600a/4507-3118_7-33345347.html?tag=mncol;psum

I really am looking to install XP because its almost 4 days now and im going crazy without my desktop. I promise anyone who can build this for me will be rewarded, I have a credit card and paypal. I also have blank CD's and am willing to burn any disc that can help me out with this. I really need the drivers for the computer and everything so I can install it.

Thanks so much for your help!!

Answer:If anyone could make step-by-step instructions for this process, It would save me.

Answer:(N 200 ) 0769 - step by step Windows 7 guide needed

I'm interested in doing the exact same thing, but haven't the time at the moment.  Please post your progress for the rest of us.       Download and run the  Win7 Upgrade Advisor on your N200      This will check your existing hardware & software for obvious incompatibilities & limitations.   I suspect your graphics subsystem will be the limiting factor on your N200.   When I ran the upgrade advisor on my system, it also flagged my version of Family Tree Maker as incompatible, which means I will have to buy a more recent version to be able to run it under Win 7, otherwise everything I have will do.       This is what I am going to do when I get around to it.  It will be a clean installation on a blank hard drive.  I have already created a bootable DVD using WIndows 7 Enterprise, a FREE trial (totally legal) offered by Microsoft.   I have a spare hard drive for my N200 that I can swap out, reformat, whatever, without affecting my original Win XP setup, which will be safe on the shelf while I experiment with the new OS.    I think every laptop user should have a spare laptop hard drive ready to be installed when the primary laptop hard drive fails, as it will.      I have already used the same DVD to check out a desktop computer, and was very pleased with how fast the installation went, 20 minutes o... Hi, I feel lost with how to install MS Windows 8.1 (64-bit) on Lenovo Y570 on the SSD. Can someone help me with step to step guide that works? Currently I have installed Windows 8.1 myself, but would need to reimage my laptop. Previously I could not see the hybrid SSD drive in the options for Windows install, I guess I did something wrong. Cheers,D

Answer:Need a step by step guide for installing Windows 8.1 on Y570

Hello ssddgreg, welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to say, but your Y570 is not supported to upgrade to Windows 8.1.

See this Windows 8.1 Tested System List for Lenovo:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT079684

But I guess you have already done the upgrade.

So I don't know how anybody could give you a "step by step guide that works".

Here is the Lenovo Ideapad Windows 8.1 guide:

Cheers,

I would like my Microsoft/nokia Lumia 640 that runs on Metro Pcs to be flashed to the T-mobile ROM, Does anybody have a step by step instuctions on how to perform this? I have read about flashing the ATT version here lately(looks complicated)I thought it would be simpler to flash T-mobiie on to Metro Pcs since they run on the same network.Would gain wifi calling and better plans with t-mobile. My metro pcs 640 runs windows 10 and is not unlocked, would the flashing also enable me to use T-mobile without having to get an SIM unlock code? thanks folks!
