Lenova firmware update 2.23.0 was recently installed on my ideapad and now I've lost my audio

Question: Lenova firmware update 2.23.0 was recently installed on my ideapad and now I've lost my audio

On the task bar my audio symbol has a red x next to it. When I place the curser over the audio symbol it displays the message "No Audio Output Device is installed". I have downloaded The Realtek driver and after installing the driver I got the message "The driver installation wizard successfully scanned your machine but did not find any device to be updated". I ran the device manager and it does not list a device for audio/sound/speaker. I have not removed any hardware from my computer and the sound was working before the firmware update 2.23.0. I had the same problem several months ago after an update and I downloaded the driver and it corrected the problem. My computer is under warranty so where do I get it fixed?

Preferred Solution: Lenova firmware update 2.23.0 was recently installed on my ideapad and now I've lost my audio

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey,

I just had a quick question I have a LG CH08LS10 Blu ray drive and I have been having glitches with some Blu Rays namely Terminator Salvation and The Dark Knight they run choppy and stutter. All of my other Blu Rays run fine.

Anyway the software that came with the Blu Ray Drive came with the LG Tool Kit. When I first got the drive I used it to auto look for firmware updates. It found one update to make the drive compatible with Windows 7. It says that the update was successful but I'm unsure whether that's the case or not as I can't find out where to find out which firmware I have right now.

So I have tried everything to fix the stuttering issue with the two Blu Rays. I've updated Java, upgraded the Blu Ray playing software, updated graphics drivers, switched off tons of start up programs and still Terminator Salvation and The Dark Knight stutter. It doesn't make sense because TS spikes at 100% percent CPU usage all the time and 2012 is 50% percent.

So should I just go to the LG website and manually download the firmware update? Or will that damage my drive?

Answer:How do you know if a firmware update actually installed properly?

Nero Info Tool should tell you the drive's firmware: http://www.nero.com/enu/support-nero8-tools-utilities.html
You can also run that same firmware update utility and I think it tells you if the firmware versions and if there's a newer version.

You can try the WinDVD trial: http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ca/en/Product/1189528458632#versionTabview=tab1&tabview=tab4

You have a weak CPU and that may be the problem.

Subject says it all, at seemingly random times my S10 now turns off, the wireless light stays on, but no screen, power/charge light, etc.  This happens with and without the power adapter plugged in, and has happened 4 times since updating 3 days ago.  It hasn't happened when I'm using it, twice when it was idle (It makes a great alarm clock at 3am) and twice when waking it from sleep. In order to turn it back on I need to hold down the power button to hard reset, unplugging power adapter doesnt help, battery has a full charge. Anyone else having this issue?  It's stock except upgraded memory (1gb DDR2 667), which I swapped out to make sure it wasnt causing the issue.  This never happened with the old firmware.  I don't see anyway to downgrade it to the old firmware either.. Original S10 ordered in august, shipped in early Oct (Mft Date 9/25/08), 512mb/80gb 10.2" running the included XP home. http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/lenovo/drivers/2412/5696.html   was firmware update.  Applied because the boot-on-one key recovery button was annoying.  Update applied fine, rebooted, everything else seems fine.Message Edited by jonthompson on 11-29-2008 02:25 PMMessage Edited by jonthompson on 11-29-2008 02:27 PM

I've just had a 2Tb Samsung HD204UI drive installed. (I got 6 months out of the Western Digital )

A quick Google has brought up the following link.......

SAMSUNG HD204UI important firmware patch required

I'm wondering if I need this patch? How can I tell if I do? Will Vista updates look after it automatically if I do need it?

Thanks.

Hi,I tried to update my MC8755 with a new firmware a while ago using IBM system updater, but after windows restarted the device didn't even show anymore (not even as disabled or a device without a driver), at boot time the WWAN light comes on for a few seconds (till windows starts to load) then it switches off and that's it. I was not really using the card much at the time, so I didn't do anything about it, but after I've been camping a few times latelyI would like to be able to use it again.I have tried to reflash the card again by downloading the firmware from the IBM website but I get a error message saying that it can not find the device, so its unable to flash it again, is there anything I can do to reflash the card? When it is not showing at all? I've checked the BIOS and it is still showing that it is switched on.I have also checked in Windows Control Panel > Thinkpad Configuration, But nothing is showing there.I have also done FN + F5 and it is not showing there too!I tried to do a hardware scan for new devices, but it was not found. The Model is :2008WN6Windows XP Pro SP3 ThanksRich

Beware! if you have bitlocker enabled on your C drive and do an Firmware update on your X1 Carbon make sure you have stored the recovery key. After doing the Firmware update Windows no longer unlocks the drive automatically, it will require the 8*6 number recovery key. If you did not save or have lost your key you no longer have access to your data.

Answer:Warning Bitlocker key lost after update Firmware X1 Carbon 20A8

That is quite normal. Any change to configuration/hardware will make bitlocker prompt for recovery key.

Got a new Ideapad 310 last week.  For no reason at all it will lose all sound and there will  be a red "x" next to the sound icon in the task bar.  It happens everyday and everyday I have to use windows to repair the driver and then reboot which always takes time and then it still comes back later on in the day.  Is there a permanent fix for this?  Got this laptop from Costco but am thinking of returning it as I have searched the web and it does seem to be a constant problem with no real suggestions how to make it go away.  Really need help on this one.   No speakers or mic, nothing plugged into this computer ever, it is just running off it's own speakers.

I recently recieved a  y410p ideapad I ordered off the lenova website. However, it won't start up. When I try, it brings me to a blue screen with a sad face that says I need to do an automatic repair. This flashes for about two seconds before disappearing and the screen becomes grey and says "lenovo" and "Starting Automatic Repair". From this the screen goes completly grey, and has nothing on it. The computer stays this way for hours and the fan will continue to run. I've tried the reset button on the side and resetting the laptop, but no matter what I do I end up back at that grey screen.

Greetings!

I've recently installed Windows 7 Professional on my Dell Latitude D810. After the install, I lost all audio capabilities. My volume controller in the quick launch bar states, "No Audio Output Device is installed." I ran the "Detecting Problems" to try and fix the drivers, but it wasn't able to fix it.

My next step was to check the Dell Drivers and Downloads website and they don't have an audio driver for my computer with Windows 7; however, I've read on other websites that people have had no audio issues with installing Windows 7 on their Latitude D810s. Others have claimed to have had issues, but to have been able to find drivers to fix their audio problems.

Through various websites and downloading, I've tried the following driver executables: D810_A05.exe, R99254.exe, and S1wua01i.exe.

Does anyone else have any other driver recommendations? Or links to other drivers I can at least try?

At this point, anything would be helpful! Much appreciation and thanks in advance....

Answer:Windows 7 Installed, Lost All Audio

Install the Vista or XP driver for it using the device manager. Right click it. Update driver software. Browse my computer. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse. Double click on the .inf. Hit ok. Hit next. Reboot if necessary, but shouldn't be.

I keep having the same updates all the time in the Lenovo Companion. Whatever I turn off and on all the same come back. Versions checked and they are already installed. The audiodriver is in the list as well but keeps giving the error message that it can not be installed. It's very annoying because it remains the same list all the time. Windows 10, fresh install and no strange things installed. Please help me out with this or solve the issue. Kind regards,Stan

HiThere is a setting in lenovo energy management which limits the battery charge limt to 60% and there after stop charging tilll battery level falls down to around 55%. This is the battery protection mode(In some laptop it is optimize for battery life or similar). Just open energy management and go to battery settings by clicking the icon. So your battery might be fine.Regardd

I plug it in and it stays at 5%. It acts like it is going to charge, for less then 30 seconds and stops. I keep it plugged in but the percentage of charged power is slowly dropping. I got this last December but for some reason the warranty was started before I got it. I am not pleased and need to fix this. Any ideas? Thank you.

Okay, after a lot of faffing about, I finally decided on the 11s (i3 processor, 128GB hard drive, 4GB RAM, Windows 8). I wanted something that was fairly cheap (less than £500) portable, much lighter than my current laptop and good enough for basic use. This fits the bill. It should be with me tomorrow morning. I have two main jobs on my list when I get it before starting to use it for what I bought it for. 1) Update to Windows 8.1 and 2) Remove all bloatware. 1) From experience, is the upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1 going to cause me grief? What steps should I take to make this as painless a process as possible, please? What should I look out for? 2) What bloatware can I happily remove? I understand Lenova ae one of the worst companies for shipping their products with bloatware but I really don't want anything on it that doesn't need to be on it. Any other top tips from 11S owners? Thanks for your help.

Answer:Just bought the Lenova IdeaPad yoga 11s Some tips, please .....

Okay, forget the post. I spent a couple of hours reading these forums and some of the posts in other places and realised that most people don't seem to be able to upgrade without lots of problems, which I don't think I have the ability to solve. I'm also a bit worried that if I get a problem, Lenovo's support doesn't seem to be very good. I managed to cancel the order before it got shipped and will have to do some more research and get a laptop with Windows 8.1 already installed. I can see why Yogas aren't shipped with windows 8.1 already installed now! Thanks anyway.

I bought my laptop 7 months ago and it suddenly won't charge. Even when the battery is drained. I thought it might start charging after that from reading the complaints online, and it does, but the light flashes intermittently for a minute or two before dying out. When I turn my laptop on it only has 5 minutes and every time I plug it in to charge, the light either doesn't light up or it flashes for a short while. My mum bought it for me from Hong Kong and the original receipt is lost so I can't take it in to service in NZ even though it has warranty. I really want it fixed fast because I need it to study and exams are coming up right now. Thank you to any help!! Eva

hi brice572,

The battery on that Z500 is showing a sign of imminent failure. Can you try to perform a battery gauge reset to fully dragin the battery and reset the charge capacity. To do this, open the Lenovo Energy Management > Battery > Battery Gauge Reset (see spoiler)
 Spoiler (Highlight to read)
If the above steps doesn't work, you need to call lenovo on how to go about replacing the battery.

Answer:Problem with Lenova Ideapad Z510 Battery not charging

In response to customer reports of unexpected issues with battery performance on Z500 and Z510 laptops, Lenovo is making a battery firmware update available via download from the Lenovo Forums.

This battery firmware is intended to resolve the following unexpected charging symptoms when a Z500 or Z510 laptop is powered on:

Battery is dead
Battery is not detected
Battery is detected and charged to 100% but when AC power is removed, the laptop immediately powers off
When the battery is fully charged and AC power is removed, battery level falls dramatically within 10 minutes

Please note a step-by-step procedure for upgrading the firmware is included in the .zip file, found in the "ReadMe" folder.

The battery firmware update can be downloaded here: https://download.lenovo.com/lenovo/content/sm/z500_z510_battery_firmware_update.zip

Thank you,

Hello, I purchased my Lenovo Ideapad Y500 last June and my USB ports are starting to sizzle out on me a year later. I was originally looking to see how much it would cost to send it in and get them all replaced (Yes there is something wrong with all 3 of them). What's wrong is that 2 of the ports are faulty and cut in and out. Whenever I have my mouse or speakers hooked up to them they will cut out frequently if the wire is even touched. On my other USB port nothing cuts out but suddenly when I have my Turtle Beach headset hooked into them it doesn't register that my sound card is enabled and I cannot make any skype calls. If someone could tell me how much it would cost to get this fixed or lead me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks.

Answer:Lenova Ideapad Y500 USB Ports not functioning properly

Hi Nmadson,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that the USB ports are not working as expected in your Y500 Laptop. Hence, I would suggest you to uninstall the Root HUB drivers and check the issue, below are the steps to perform the same:

To open device manager click on Winkey+R key together, type devmgmt.msc in the Run window and select OK.
Now under ?Universal Serial Bus Controllers? then right click on ?USB Root Hub? and select Un-install click OK.
Perform the same above step if there are more than one ?USB Root Hub? displayed.
Then restart and check the issue.

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

Best Regards
Shiva Kumar

The laptop sometimes boots up when fully charged (whether connected or not connected with power cord) with display working fine and other times (at random) when turned on will show that power is on (indicator light is turned on on side of laptop) but no display. Screen is blank and no sound is heard. Again, this is completely random. I can follow the exactly same process (always when fully charged). Sometimes the screen works fine; other times it's black and never displays. Please help.

Answer:Lenova Yogo 700-11ISK (ideapad) powers up but with blank screen

Hi, Carol ?

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

You can also start by flushing out all static, remove AC adaptor and hold down power button for about 15 seconds.

Installing new OS might help, but I wouldn't count on it to fix the problem. It is probably some power supply to screen issue or bad LCD cable, might be completely wrong though.

Try updating the BIOS

This evening I ran ms update on my system (Gigabyte H67 mobo, core i3-2100T processor, 8gb Gskill eco ram). Saw an important update notice for SP1. Downloaded and installed and immediately lost all video. restarted and all started normally with the exception that my video resolution is set at its lowest point. (I use a Sony Bravia TV for my monitor. If I make any change in screen resolution I lose all video.
I am just finishing a fresh install of win7, 64-bit on a new SSD. Unfortunately, I had read and followed some tweaks, among which was turning off my system restore. My device manager shows no problems, and tells me everything is working properly.
Anyone have any ideas of a fix for this? All assistance appreciated!

Toshiba Satellite a25-s207. Windows XP Professional.

how do I lower the brightness without the use of function keys?
I do not have the startup disks or anything that my computer originally came with six years ago. I have recently reformatted my computer. I've searched on the internet for drivers only finding rather fishy websites. I have looked extensively through the toshiba website ( such as through this link http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=DL&os=&category=&moid=429794&rpn=PSA20U&modelFilter=&selCategory=3&selFamily=1073768663&selModel=429794%7CPSA20U)
only finding some driver support. I realize this product doesn't get updates any more, but I'm trying to figure out what bios and firmware options this thing needs or even if I'm saying that right. I can't even access the function keys to lower the brightness.
If there is something more I should post please let me know. Thank you very much.

OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A25-s207, recently reformatted, needing firmware support...Possibly

The big mistake that you made before you formatted the hard drive and did a fresh install of Windows XP Pro in your Toshiba Satellite A25-S207 laptop was not writing down the descriptions in the Device Manager for:

Display Adapters

Network Adapters

Sound Video And Game Controllers

and then obtaining and burning off to a CD-R the current drivers for them.

----------------------------------------------------------------

I checked the Toshiba link that you provided. You'll have much better luck refining your search with Windows XP instead of Windows XP SP2/SP3, and then selecting Display and Sound and LAN and Mouse and downloading the drivers from there.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Don't worry about BIOS or firmware updates. They're usually not needed, and you can render your laptop or the drives inoperable by installing the wrong ones or if the install goes wrong.

Hello, I am helping a friend fix his computer. A Dell InspironN5030

There is a red X over the sound icon in the task bar and he has no sound, he belives this started after the last Windows Update. He did have sound before. When I go to Sound in Control Panel a message pops up saying "No audio devices installed." When I go to Services The Windows Audio Properties says "Windows could not start the Windows Audio Service on local computer. Error 1608: The dependency service or group failed to start." When I go to Dependencies the Multimedia Class Scheduler is started. The Remote Procedure Call is started. The DCOM Service Process Launcher is started. The RPC Endpoint Mapper is started. The Windows Audio Endpoint Builder is stopped. When I try to start it I get this message: "Windows could not start the Windows Audio Endpoint Builder Error 999 Error performed in page operation." The Plug and Play is started.

I have ran MalwareBytes, CCleaner, TDSSKiller. I have noticed there are a lot of services stopped but first things first and get the sound going.
Thanks for the help.

Answer:No Audio Devices Installed after update

First of all, welcome to BC !

As a first step I would go to the Dell web-site and download and install the audiio drivers for your Inspiron and see if that solves your problem. Your Dell probably has a barcode on it somewhere. If you copy the barcode number and type it into the search box on the service page on the Dell web-site you will normally be taken to a page which has all the drivers for your computer - I wish more manufacturers would do this !

If this gets you your sound back, great. If it doesn't, post back.

As for your non-running services, if you go into 'Computer management' you can decide how services you want to run startup. To get there, clcik 'Start', RIGHT click on 'Computer' in the start menu, then click 'Manage' in the drop-down menu that appears. Services are at the bottom of the dialogue box. If you click any service you want to change the startup for, click on the service, then RIGHT click and in the dialogue box that appears you will find the option to change the startup type. Your choices are 'automatic', 'Manual' and 'Disable'.

Trying to fix a friend's Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop, Win Vista SP2, which has lost sound round about a week ago. Possibly related is a bootup problem from about the same time where it sometimes but not always sticks at the Welcome screen - Ctrl Alt Del twice forces it to start. There are recent posts on this forum for each problem, just wonder if they are related.Extensive search of forums seems to point to a recent Win Update as the culprit for both, although the sound problem has references going back a couple of years. No joy so far. Uninstalled the recommended update 905866 from 17/1/10 which someone else suspected by no joy either.Anyone else got these problems, especially the sound? My Gateway Win Vista and Acer Win 7 starter are both ok.

Hi! Icon on lower right shows speaker with a red x, says no audio device installed.Do I have to reinstall windows 7 or ?Thank you,Bill

Answer:T43 Installed Windows 7 Audio does not work, installed update. still does not work!

No - but you should download/install ThinkVantage System Update (for Windows 7) and have it download and install the proper T43 drivers for Windows 7.  Then you'll have sound.  :^)  That's what I did for my T43.  All works fine.

Greetings: this might just be a warning. I am running Windows XP SP3 on an HP desktop.  I was on Chrome, and got a message that there was a new version available. It  looked, authentic, and I clicked the download the "new version" of Chrome. I did not uninstall the existing version.

I lost my "Ethernet" adapter. And even though the ISP was sending a signal, the Network settings were hosed. During a scan, I found a folder named "Solid Savings" that I'd never seen before (it was probably the malware that downloaded  during the Chrome update). I used Revo to uninstall Solid Savings (it was all over the registry), but still missing an ethernet file for my network. . So I finally decided to restore to an earlier point.which restored my connectivity, but now Chrome says it cannot find data, and wants me to uninstall and reinstall.

I did find some adware in Microsoft Security Essentials quarantine that I deleted.  Right now I am keeping my restore points, wanting to see if this error has been resolved;  encountered. by Bleeping and what, if anything, I should do before uninstalling Chrome (besides hopefully saving its favorites). This machine was a gift and I do not have an OS disk, only a backup/recovery disk.  I had fought to upgrade it to SP3, before MS came out with its instructions..

Lost HD Audio on Assassin HTPC! Was it the recent Windows Update?
All of the sudden I have lost my HD audio output on my Assassin HTPC with ASUS Graphics Card and AMD chipset. I can see audio on the level meter but nothing comes from the speakers. I know if is not the TV or the Onkyo Tuner. Once in a while when playing in the speakers panels I receive the following error message which I have not seen before: "The device is being used by another application. If you continue, that application may stop working." It does not matter is I answer Yes or No, I still get no sound.

I've searched online and it appears others started losing their audio around the time of the July Windows Updates. I was on a 7 week trip then so all of my Windows updates may have gotten loaded when I returned home last week! (When the problem started).

I have already removed all the Windows updates back to before the July ones and shut off auto updates. I have already attempted removing and reinstalling audio drivers. I am at the PONR (point of no return) where I will need to do a total system recovery from disk unless someone knows of the solution. Was this caused by a Windows update as some maintain? And does anyone know how to get around this? After all I have about 8 weeks of great TV recorded that I cannot watch. (Thank God I can still plug in my HD laptop into the TV and watch downloads, albeit without surround sound, or else I'd be going nuts)

Anyone???

Answer:Lost HD Audio on Assassin HTPC! Was it the recent Windows Update?

What audio are you using, the HDMI Audio or the PC Audio? Two different items. In most cases the HDMI audio is generated by the sound chip on the Video Card and with HDMI audio, the PC's audio is not used.

Instead of uninstalling the updates, you really need to do a System Restore if you have one available.

I had to use that today, I had installed the WPS Suite of office programs (used to be called Kingsoft) and it corrupted my MS Word and Outlook. I uninstalled the WPS using Revo Uninstaller Pro which also scans the registry for left over entries and allows for deleting them. After a system reboot, I still had the corruption problems caused by WPS. Fortunately I had a System Restore point that was before I installed WPS and that fixed the problems.

Go to the Control Panel/Sound. Highlight Speakers Make sure this is your Default device for sound. Click the Configure/Test.
You can also go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc, Right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers, right click your Sound device/Properties/Driver/Roll Back Driver to roll back to the driver that was working.
Or you could do a System Restore to a time when it was working.

Hi all,I'm in the need of restoring my Ideapad A10 model 20323 (loaned it to a friend who - genius - erased the internal sdcard to install a rom without backing up the disk).Nothing serious I said: it's simply a matter of downloading the firmware from Lenovo servers.Surprisingly, I couldn't find anything.I realize that the Ideapad A10 is an old model, but I think that Lenovo servers are big eneough to host the firmware of a discontinued model. Moreover, the netbook always worked well: so what should I do ? Throw it away only because of lack of such an easy remedy like downloading the restore image ?I am simply asking for what I paid for: the ability to use the product I purchased.I am confident that Lenovo will soon resolve this issue and will upload the firmware.

Answer:Firmware for Ideapad A10

Sorry, realized that i posted in the wrong section; can a mod move it in the right one please ?

I was running IE7 and recently upgraded to IE 8 the problem is when i open a new url on the page it does not open fully and leaves the border and the maximise and delete boxes off so i have to put the curser on the edgeto make it go larger to show these is there any way of correcting this as it is very frustrating

Answer:IE 8 recently installed

Sounds like you're almost doing the right thing. Try this:
When one of your sites opens and is too small, try manually placing your cursor on each edge of the page, and dragging that edge out to the edge of the screen --- thereby manually maximizing the page. (Do NOT use the 'maximum size' button in the upper toolbar.) Then reboot. You may have to do this a few times, but Vista should remember the new page size after one or two reboots, and open all pages to that size every time.

I have an hp mini 110-3000 and o/s is windows 7 starter edition. IDT high definition audio codec driver. ONly firewall is through Norton's security program.
Several weeks ago, began getting browser redirects and brief page flashes on screen. It seemed like something on the background was happening despite only having a document open. Kaspersky did not reveal any virus.
A week later, lost audio in external headphone jack, then days later the speakers stopped working. Device mgr did not reveal any problems. Uninstalled above audio driver without success. audio was not muted and speakers were on default ...all obvious things checked (volume). Reinstalled system back to factory but no change. contacted hp support but after hours of help they could not detect anything. The only thing they did not look at was a virus. They simply told us to return system to their service depot for repair/replacment. At last minute, I did another reinstall with no change in audio (I hear nothing through speakers, but in jack with headphones, I hear crackling noise). When I run audio test on speakers, I see the audio levels go up and down but no sound??? Now, since the reinstall, my system is incredibly slow (dragging)?? Ran malwarebytes with no virus detected. If it was a hardware problem, why would the system speed and internet download speed be affected??? Can you help?

Sometimes in a day I'll install multiple programs, whose names I forget.

How can I tell which programs I recently installed? In XP it was easy, they'd just go to the end of the list of programs. But in Win 7 they're all alphabetical.

Answer:how to see which programs I recently installed

You can look at reliability history to see when programs were installed. Think that might be your best bet.

Okay, so I just installed XP Pro to replace XP Home on my computer. I took Home off completely, and Pro is now the only thing on my computer.

The problem is not starting the computer, and not the internet. It is strange because the sounds are a bit different than they were on Home... like they are a bit echoed. And the entire desktop is smaller now, so it does not take up the whole screen. I don't know how to make it correct. And on and off, the programs on my computer will take forever to load. About ten minutes will go by, and then all of them will pop up at the same time. I am waiting for Windows to download SP2, but that has not happened yet, and my automatic updates are on and have downloaded many things so far. I am wondering if that is contributing, although I doubt it.

Does anybody know what might be going on with my computer? I have never seen this before. My internet is working well but everything else is screwed up...

Answer:Serious Problems with Recently-Installed XP Pro

Welcome!

Firstly, it sounds as though you have not loaded the video, motherboard or audio drivers for the computer?

A new installation of Windows that you have done wipes all the device specific drivers. You need to download them for your exact computer model and set the video resolution to match the screen native resolution.

As you do not have SP2 installed I hope that you have a firewall activated (even the basic Windows XP one) before connecting to the web, or you could be virused in just a few minutes (the Blaster worm).

Without all drivers loaded, you may not get far as the default ones that Windows supplies are often less than optimum.

It would be useful to know the exact make/model of the computer as well.

Can someone please suggest somthing... i have already tried disabling onboard raid..!!

Answer:Recently Installed RAID

What happens when you try to boot?

Does it get past the initial screen to the Windows splash screen? If it does not then the new hardware is not being recognised and you will probably need to modify the boot disk settings in your BIOS settings.

I have got crashes after a few minutes into a game. I am quite sure it is not a hardware problem as I have just recently called for a warranty replacement and the lenovo support guy said he replaced the hardware already. This is making me desperate as I have tried a lot of software troubleshooting such as changing the driver versions (the latest ones make me crash too). I ran furmark and it crashes after a couple of seconds. I tried downclocking with MSI afterburner and still nothing helped. I deleted my antivirus to see if it affects the performance and still I do not get any improvements. I am currently on the windows 8.1, y580, gtx 660m, 12 gb ram and all my windows updates and lenovo drivers are the latest ones. Please help....

Hello!

After I updated to Windows 10, I lost the ability to select which audio device I want to be playing the sounds at the moment (to be the default audio device). At Win8, when I entered the Audio from control panel, I could select either speakers (which I connected
to the rear of the desktop) and my headphones + mic to the front jacks. This is extremely useful for me, because I can't easily access the tower itself to switch jacks all the time and I even made it on shortcut on the desktop. Now this option is gone
and it is not under disconected or disabled devices either. Some apps like Skype have remembered my previous selection for headphones to be used and now I can't switch it back to speakers or headphones whenever I please, because there is no other selection
in the drop-down menu for default audio device.
I hope I can have this sorted soon, because it is really inconvenient.
Kind, regards

edit: I actually got to know it actually plays on both devices simultaneously now :X

Answer:T60: Abort with Blue Screen (After Lenova Update)-- 79ETE0WW (2.20)

This is a generic kernel-memory error - some conflict or leak in kernel processes.  Likely suspect is the ATI driver - roll it back and see if it fixes the problem.  If not, roll back the other driver updates, one at a time...  Probably not related to the BIOS update.  Sometimes a new version of a driver will conflict with an existing software installation, that was flawed but got away with it until the new driver version of something else.  Symantec and AVG antivirus software are known to produce these kinds of problems, along with some CD-burning software (esp. Roxio)..Message Edited by chimp_on_a_T61 on 02-15-2008 10:46 AM

Answer:I E 8 Optimized for Bing and MSN Installed recently

Perhaps as part of the process of installing the new browser, IE8 was set to the current security or privacy settings and they are too high. I would think it would work with the defaults on the normal IE8 so first try to reset IE (tools/internet options/advanced/reset.) If that doesn't fix it, try lowering the security level or accepting more cookies under privacy. Perhaps the "helpful insrtuctions" will provide a clue as to how to change them.

I recently picked up the new N600 Netgear, and installed it without much problem.

I've recently been running into a issue while wired in on my desktop.

"Error 7 (net::ERR_TIMED_OUT): The operation timed out."

Some pages, randomly, but fairly often will be very unresponsive/time out.

I tried to do some research, but without much luck I couldn't find anything regarding the problem. I am not really much of a network guy, so my expertise is limited.

If someone wouldn't mind maybe telling me what's going on, and what I can do to assure I am maximizing my network and/or internet. I'd much appreciate it.

Thanks.

I have a Compaq Presario 2100 and I've recently installed a new hard drive. I've reinstalled the windows XP cd, all the system drivers, and made all the XP updates. I can connect to the internet fine with a direct Ethernet connection on my home network, but wireless isn't connecting properly. I've manually added my home network into my preferred networks, but each time I do this the network key is reverting to some 8 character key when I've entered the proper 16 character key. When I re-enter the proper character key in the pop-up window (that appears after hitting connect from the available wireless networks window) the system tries to connect but eventually stops and no error/warning message appears. I'm wondering if my wireless card has died, but it was working properly before my hard-drive crashed. There is another laptop in the house working properly with the wireless network. I haven't installed any anti-virus or internet security besides what windows comes packaged with. I'm waiting for my wireless to perform before completing this.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Try uninstalling the graphics driver in Programs, reboot and see what windows finds. If nothing, try clicking on the driver, update driver, search automatically and see what Windows update finds. Lastly, download and install the Acer Windows 10 driver, if your model shows Windows 10 drivers and if that doesn't work, try the 8.1 driver.

hello,

i recently installed a new cd rom burner and kept my existing one also. I am having difficulty with them both since the installation. My computer will not recognize either of them and it says that the drive is not accessible. Also, for some reason, I have a removeable disk drive under my D: drive where my cd rom used to be. How can I correct this and activate my E: and F: drives? The only way that I can access either of the cd roms is by going under Run and hitting browse. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Tracie

Answer:recently installed 2 cd roms/burner

Hi tracientn, Welcome to TSG !!
What OS are you running?
You know have a cd-rom, and 2 burners? or 2 cdroms and 1 burner?
The hard drive should be master and the cdrom as slave on the primary channel. The two other drives as master and slave on the secondary channel??

Alright, I've recently been trying to install Windows 10 HP PC and it look a while to actually download but i finally did, anyway. It finally restarted and began to update, then it proceeded to the HP loading screen finished there and then started again with the same loading screen. It's been there for an hour. This has happened before and I restarted it and my computer booted back up with Windows 8, so I don't want that to happen again. Do I just wait, if not what should I do.

I recently wiped my hard drive and installed xp pro. This is the second time in a few years I have done this. However this time I have found it very difficult to find the right drivers. I remember having only one problem last time which was with the audio driver. I ended up saving that file on a zip drive and have already re installed it, the sound seems fine so I guess that driver is fine. The machine is not here so I can't tell you exactly what driver it is but I can tell you it is a Legacy audio driver. Tonight was the first night I had it connected to the internet and had to do it through a cable as I can't seem to get the wireless working. I used the auto detect feature on Lenovo website and it came up with all kinds of drivers for just about everything. I'm not sure what drivers I actually need. The audio drivers it lists are completely different from the one I have installed and working, however if the ones listed will do better than I wouldn't mind switching. I really need to get the wifi working first as it is a real pain to connect it with the cable due to where it has to sit. Over the past month before I could get on the net I tried installing several different drivers from Lenovo via a mem stick. None of them worked. Now I tried one that the wizard listed also with no luck. I think it listed 4 different wireless LAN drivers for my operating system, how do I know which one to use? Have I created a problem by installing to many different wireless LAN drivers, not su... Read more

Something like a file system monitor. Say I install, for a perfect example, .NET 3.5, and I want to see where all of the files were actually placed. This app would ideally just go "ok, all the recently installed files on the filesystem are in this location" and I could see where everything went.

Anything like that? I bet there is...

Answer:App that shows where all recently installed files actually went?

yeah I think this would be a nice addition to my arsenal of software. This would be great for combatting viruses and spyware, seeing where they put what.

I'll be away from the computer for a few days & when I fire it up it's either acting weird or has lost several hundred MB or doesn't "feel" right.
Typically, some other (teen) family member has done the forbidden and touched MY computer.
Is there a way to find out what goodies have been allowed into my private domain?
I've tried Add/Remove & it finds some things, but I assume if the program or whatever doesn't make Add/Remove a part of it, it doesn't show here.
I've tried Start>Search and plugged in the suspect dates, but the option is "modified". Would this also indicate items that were newly plugged in somewhere?
I've tried keeping a list of Processes & Startup items and comparing pre-problem to post-problem with limited success.
Any Geek tricks to monitoring what goes on the hard drive while I'm out slaving to make a dollar to pay the overpriced ISP?
Thanks!

Answer:How to find recently installed stuff?

I personally do not know of any free applications that will show these especially if they have been uninstalled.
you could try "system restore"and see if it returns to a good state.
If that does not work then you could always go through our cleaning procedure.
It seems a bit laborious but you will end up with a pristine PC and then PROTECT your PC with a PASSWORD!!!!!!!!!

I have just bought the laptop and I have a few questions and problems.  My Problem: The laptop will not detect a wireless connection for some reason as in the icon in the bottom right corner for network connections displays a red x.  1. Checked fn +f5 and there is no connection displayed there2. Restarted laptop, didn't fix it3. Tried installing WLAN drivers from the support page and restarted the laptop with no luck. I think there is no WLAN Adapter. The only adapter it has in device manager is the PCI Family Controller. Do you have any advice?   Also,  My laptop has 2 graphics cards apparently. One is the IntelHD 4000 and the other is the Nvidia GT 630M. Why does the IntelHD 4000 graphics card display in DxDiag where as the nvidia one does not? Both cards are present, however, when checking device manager.  Thanks for the help. I hope I can get a fast reply as I may have to return it within 2 weeks.  Thanks.

Recently formatted my drive (forced to format) and decided to partition

I was locked out of my computer My Log in Password had been changed remotely this is a home PC and windows update locked me out stating I had an Illegal copy of "XP Professional" In fact my copy is legal and is not "XP Professional" but a legal copy of XP Home Edition

Once formatted a folder appeared named
System Volume Information (a hidden folder)
when trying to open it tells me "access is denied"
This is my home home computer
Question....Is this normal, or is it hacker activity.

Also when I formatted my drive with XP format facility on the XP disc
8 meg was partitioned off by XP and made inaccessable
Seems a lot to me!!!!
Is this also hacker files hiding on my system?
Or does XP always reserve this much partitioned inaccessable unseen space before installing the OS as normal?

When reinstalling I first installed Norton and updated then started to to scan everything that I had saved including my 1 gig usb drive
Norton found two malicios files :
pwdump2.exe
samdump.dll

Please could someone give me some peace of mind even if its to say that im just paranoid and seeing things that arent there.

I have run adaware and spybot and hijackthis can supply log if ness.

Answer:I really could use some help here guys recently lost everything

You are probably being paranoid.
When windows partitions and formats the drive, it automatically sets aside 8MB for the partition table. This cannot be removed. Remember it is only 8MB and not 8GB.

The System Volume Information folder is used for System Restore and cannot be altered. This folder stores all the system restore points.

Just curious, it doesn't really affect my life in any way.  Except, of course, I would like better support from lenovo for open-source linux efforts.  I am interested in feedback from the designers as I'm interested in business and engineering and that sort of thing.   Thinkwiki reports that the sl series has an ideapad firmware, which explains why thinkpad_acpi in linux doesn't work right and various other things like shock protection.  So, I guess it's similar to an Ideapad U330?  They share the same intel chipset. http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/CategoryL300  and...http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=68882&sid=69c068595f0d142f96bfb9faa6bb2d8f   If this is true, why does lenovo need two firmware codebases for the same chipset (T series also uses GM45), and why did they borrow from the ideapad line instead of other thinkpads to develop the firmware for sl-series?  Interesting, no?  Isn't it extra cost? Or do they have competing BIOS developers working for them?  Also, will this affect thinkpad lines in the future? if this is top-secret or something, I understand.  P.S.  I really like my SL300, and I'm comfortable thinking that it's a Thinkpad, but I can see where some people differ on that.  I don't want to have that argument. Message Edited by garytr23 on 12-07-2008 11:35 AM

So yesterday I decided to update some drivers and I noticed there was a new BIOS version, version CDCN53WW.My Y700-15ISK was running the CDCN52WW. The new firmware was correctly updated and the armageddon started.I immediately noticed two things but I bet that's just the tip of the iceberg:    1. Some external HDD we not seen anymore by the system   2. The computer had a random crash watching a video, something I hadn't seen since more than a decade ago, the audio getting stuck, the image frozen (4 sec pressure on the OFF button necessary). The first case was interesting, I have 4 external HDDs, one has an issue with the USB 3.0 so I can only use it through a USB 2.0 cable, and curiously that one was the only one working; so I guess the problem was with the 3.0. I've encountered these two problems but I had enough.I decided to downgrade to version CDCN52WW. In order to do that, you need to enter the BIOS (press F2, reaaaally early on the boot process or you miss your moment) and find the setting where you can allow to downgrade the BIOS, if you don't do that the installer (CDCN52WW.exe) will refuse to install the BIOS claiming that the version installed is newer. After reinstalling version CDCN52WW all the problems went away.Someone at LENOVO should take a look at this update, I checked the changelog and not much has changed so, unless the modification was unmentioned, the thing that messed with all this was one ... A few days back, I got a new laptop with Windows 8 preinstalled and got tired of it quickly. Ran out quickly to get a Windows 7 Home Premium clean install disc, installed everything with little to no trouble and installed all the drivers from Sony's main website. I notice one problem immediately after throwing on some iTunes songs and youtube videos; the sound is insanely quiet. I can barely hear a thing on youtube and iTunes reaches barely 50% in my taskbar Volume Mixer. Anybody have any solutions? It's driving me crazy, haha.

My computer model is a Sony Vaio SVE14135CXW

Answer:Recently clean installed Windows 7, sound very low

Hello and welcome Pheneks mate did you install over the 8? or did you wipe the drive first then install?

Next I am assuming you have tried downloading the latest drivers from Sony for the audio?? if not then I suspect from what I can see there is only driver support for Windows 8 - I am no expert with the 8 stuff but it might be an issue. But I would have thought an audio driver would be the same whatever OS you put on.

PS this might help http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-...d#/downloadTab

I first noticed the problem attempting to play Borderlands (a game) which I had just installed. It would not connect for online play. I then tried installing a workaround for the Borderlands problem thinking it was just Borderlands which was the problem. When the word around did not work, I installed safari to test if it was all new programs. I had this same problem on my old computer but I ended up formatting to fix it and I'm hoping to avoid that this time.

Hi Guys,

I have been running and using Win 7 since about Jan 10'. I am a heavy user and have installed and deleted many programs. It has been some time since I cleaned, error checked and defragged. And, since I have installed Ubuntu next to windows windows defragger has had a tough time with it, so I thought I would install a defragger. I added disk defrag by auslogics, tried to do a error check but it would not let me due to recently installed software. I got an error check to run in safe mode with no errors. Deleted a few programs I thought might be the problem (axcrypt and xbmc player) still nothing. I get no viruses with scaan from malaware bytes or my avg.

Does anyone know of ANY programs that might interfere with the error check? or that are known for causing this problem. I do not want to have to delete programs till I find the one that is the problem.

Not sure if this is related but I have unistalled foxy tunes for firefox many times yet it still appears in the unnistall list.

thanks

Hello, I'm new to the forum and hope one of you can help me identify a problem I have.

Around a month and a half ago I purchased 2 Samsung SH-S222BB/RSMS CD-R/DVD-R SATA Burners. Now initially when I installed them both, I had a problem with one of the drives coming up with gobbledegook in BIOS (“Là Là Là Là Là Là Là Là Là Là Là Là” rather than "TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-222BB SB00”) (please see attached image) and subsequently not allowing BIOS to continue through to Windows boot (stays on BIOS screen indefinitely). I switched the SATA port it was plugged into and it seem to be detected fine and Windows was booting correctly.

Fast forward a month or so, the strange BIOS reading and not booting started to resurface. Usually a restart would clear the error and it would boot. But more recently a restart wouldn't clear this error so I proceeded to change the SATA port its connected to (I also changed the power cable to check that wasn't an issue, and it didn't change the error). This SATA port change again temporarily fixed the issue. In the last week the error reoccurred so as I didn't need that second drive for now, I've disconnected the drive in question.

So I'm here to see if anyone has any ideas about what could be causing this? Is it worth trying a different SATA cable (haven't yet tried this). Do people think that the drive could be corrupted or faulty in some way, in which case should I contact the manufacturer or r... Read more

Answer:Recently installed Windows 10, cannot scroll on touchpad and pc much

I had the same problem with my ultrabook when I clean-installed 10 Enterprise. The touchpad and touchscreen didn't work at all. Then, some time later, while I was manually installing drivers and Windows Updates, they suddenly worked.

My only real suggestion would be to back up your important files, do a clean install (not upgrade), then grab your drivers from your PC manufacturer's website (if they are 10-compatible, if not then find other sources). Once you've finished that then update Windows, it may also grab any other drivers you're missing.

Sometimes upgrading can drag in unneeded baggage and break things that were working before.

If you don't want to reinstall, you can try grabbing the Windows 10 versions of the Synaptics drivers from their website and see if that fixes your scrolling.

It is also possible that your laptop is simply a bit old and isn't quite fully optimal to run 10. It can be done, but you may have a hard time with finding correct drivers and other issues. Your hardware may be better off with 7, it's older and more stable but uses a bit more resources than 10. Chances are that, since your laptop is out of warranty, the drivers on HP's website for your model are for 7 only. You can try reinstalling 7, then turn off the automatic updates so it won't auto-upgrade to 10 again. It shouldn't be auto-upgrading you in any case, Microsoft is wrong to try force 10 onto 7 users that may or may not want it, if that is indeed what they're doing. There were confir... Read more
