Thinkpad W700 On Screen Display Volume and Brightness Missing: SOLVED

Question: Thinkpad W700 On Screen Display Volume and Brightness Missing: SOLVED

I recently upgraded my W700 to a clean Win7 Pro x64 install, downloaded the latest Win7 drivers from the Lenovo website, and did a manual install of all of them. Mostly there were no problems, however the OSD for mute, volume up/down, and brightness did not work. Here is the page for the Hotkey Features Integration package, which contains the OSD program: Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit), 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bi... The problem appears to be a bug in latest version of the OSD program, for the W700. I collected data on the various versions of the OSD utility; see below (I have used the overall package version as a reference, although the OSD program itself has a different version). Here is the fix: 1) Install the latest Hotkey Features Integration package. This gets the latest other packages, plus a broken version of OSD.2) Manually uninstall the OSD program (in Control Panel:Uninstall); reboot.3) Download and install the Hotkey Features Integration package version 3.85.0000. This is last version which works fully with the W700. Run the package installer, the run the installer itself. Make sure that only the OSD component is selected; run setup; reboot. That should fix it. It appears that the bug also exists in Win XP. Here is the info I have on the various versions: 3.33.0002 - OSD Works with W7003.81.0100 - OSD Works with W7003.84.2000 - OSD Works with W7003.85.0000 - OSD Works with W700 <<=== LATEST VERSION THAT WORKS === (OSD version 6.67.50)3.86.0000 - OSD Works, except Fn-F5 broken, With W7003.89.0100 - OSD Broken with W700

Preferred Solution: Thinkpad W700 On Screen Display Volume and Brightness Missing: SOLVED

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I was uninstalling a few "lenovo" apps and after I removed the power manager, my volume on screen display and brightness went missing. The buttons actually work, because I can see the volume icon on the task bar change on mute.  It's a y550 with vista 64 any ideas? thanks.  ps. i've been trying to find a list of progs I should uninstall on these laptops to "clean" it up and haven't found any. So far I've removed readycomm and power manager and that idea center or something which trys to sell you stuff. Other than that, Norton was removed and replaced with nod32 and i ran ccleaner <- maybe this caused this?

Answer:On screen volume/brightness display missing

power manager is in charge of OnScreenDisplay icons. No wonder they disappeared after you uninstalled power manager.

I tried many proposed solutions to the problem without success. The following worked for me. It may well be previously reported; I do not know. Using T-61P (same software as others) and had following programs installed with latest downloads: Power Manager 5.20Power Manager Driver 1.67.00.02On Screen Display 6.70.00System Interface Driver 1.05 Computer had operated properly prior to latest updates. In my case, at least, the missing display problem seems to have been incompatability of the new OSD version 6.70 with other programs. Removing that version of OSD and replacing with version 6.67.10 did the trick.  The earlier OSD program is part of the prior version of the Hot Key suite which can be found and downloaded via Google search for "3.84.2000" without the quotes and not from Lenovo which only lists present version. When you install 3.84.2000, opt only to install the OSD sub-package. Good luck.

Answer:My solution - Missing on-screen display of volume and brightness

Registered to just say thanks for this solution - worked also for me, though with different machine (X60s), already tried to reinstall different power manager versions, on screen displays, remove virtual clone drive and whatnot without luck.

I have a Dell Precision 5510 laptop issued by my work. They have installed some custom software and  and I seem to have lost the OSD showing the little bars indicating adjustments to Volume and Brightness when you use the Fn keys to adjust them. A search of previous threads indicated this function was previously managed by a program called Dell Quickset or Dell ControlPoint System Manager, but these were from posts several years old and neither of those programs seems to be applicable to my current laptop. Any idea what program or drivers need to be installed to restore this functionality?
Edit: I'm on Windows 7

How do you check if the brightness key (F5/F6) is working or not, because to use that key you have to simultaneously press Fn+F5/Fn+F6, then to if it is not working then check it in BIOS mode once.

Uninstall the current graphic driver from Control panel ? program & feature option and update all the drivers and application from thinkvantage system update utility.

I just upgraded my T510 with Windows 7 Ultimate x64. While downloading all the drivers and stuff for installation I thought I might as well update the BIOS as well. Everything worked just fine and the new configuration works well but I have lost the on-screen display that pops up when adjusting sound or brightness. Can someone tell me how to turn that back on? I like that feature.  I read a post where the user can't make that black bar go away, so I suppose my problem isn't as bad. Thanks in advance.

Hello all- I updated the BIOS to 2.26 a while ago and ever since then there's no on-screen indication of caps lock on/off, screen brightness or volume when I change it. I needed to update the Hotkeys Feature Integration by downloading the utility thingy from this page. Probably wasn't a BIOS thing after all.

I have a ThinkPad X240 which came with a 1366x768 TN panel, I hated it and so after a while I upgraded it to an IPS 1080p display. It works great and looks fantastic except it's stuck on max brightness inside of Windows 8.1. I cannot change the brightness inside of Intel HD graphics settings or inside of programs like Display Tuner. It doesn't work in Windows 10 either. The weird thing is, I can change the brightness just fine inside of Ubuntu. I've tried uninstalling the Intel HD drivers and reinstalling them, I've tried switching the drivers to the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, and none has worked. I feel like I've installed every single version of Intel's Graphics Drivers and that I've done everything and it still won't change the bloody brightness. NOTHING has worked except to just use Ubuntu, which is not an adequate solution. I've even gone as far as to update my BIOS and reset it to defaults, I've even pulled the CMOS battery. I've tried the version of the Intel HD driver from Lenovo for the X240 and I've installed the monitor.ini files. I've also just learned that during the Windows Boot Logo, the FN keys WILL change the brightness, but as soon as Windows is done booting, it stops working. This, coupled with the fact that brightness control works in Ubuntu means that this must be something related to Windows right? Brightness control works in BIOS. I've even gone so far as to try and change the brightness through CMD using powercfg accordin... Hi, I am considering a W700 for graphics content creation in the UK. But my small brain has become confused over the screens. I am hoping a Lenovo person can clarify this for me. On the american site I see the 1920 x 1200 WUXGA is available in both 200nit and 400nit versions. But I cant find this specified on UK models like NRP75UK, where a nit value is not given at all. I am wondering what the nit value of this UK model is. thanks a lot, R

Answer:Question - Screen Brightness rating on W700 UK versions

The WUXGA screen only came in the 400 nit version, but from what you observed they seem to have introduced a new cheap-o 200 nit one in the US. I have a UK 400 nit W700 and it always takes a while for anything to trickle down to europe, so I suspect that all the WUXGA screens on the UK site are 400 nit.

I have an Acer Iconia W700 that I recently updated with Win10.  The upgrade went flawlessly.  Everything seems to work fine: Bluetooth, Wifi, Audio, USB 3, etc.  But, the only thing I can't make work is the Screen Brightness. Yeah, graphics pop up fine, screen resolution is perfect, touch screen is spot on.  But the **bleep** thing is at 100% screen brightness all the time.  Brightness controls on the keyboad do nothing, and I can't find any way on the tablet to adjust brightness. Under Windows 8.1 I was able to adjust a slider in the charms menu on screen right...no such option on Windows 10. On top of running down my battery faster it's also blinding to look at! I've tried downloading Intel's drivers and installing them but no change.  The drivers listed here on Acer Support are for Windows 8 or 8.1 and go back to the year 2013, so I haven't tried them. Any ideas?<script type="text/javascript">// window.onbeforeunload = function() {} // </script>

Within the Thinkvantage software tools, there is one that controls the on screen display of the keys - [Hotkey Features Integration].  But do not expect to reprogram the keys to your applications. Personally, a visual nuissance. I have them set to flash for 3-4 seconds then off the screen within windows parameters.  Real lights under the keys, like they Fn or F1 key lights would have been a real Worstation soltution.  The on screen is a workaround, and useless when booting up to immediately know the status of your keyboard. Bonne chance..... Using OS Win 7 Pro 64

Your question will likely be relocated by a moderator, but what you're looking for is called the Hotkey Driver responsible for enabling all the blue Fn+PF key combo's. If those keys worked before, perform another step and check your blue ThinkVantage/Access IBM blue button above the F4/F5 key. If that key used to work until now, then your problem could be more severe than it seems.Malfunctioning thinkvantage keys are typically caused by conflicts from 3rd party software and applets, and just uninstalling  the offending software doesn't always restore the blue key functionality, sometimes the keys work but just won't overlay with the green  indicators you're trying to display. Sometimes, even some of the keys work such as your volume keys function fine, even some of the blue keys such as WiFi pwer on / off (Fn+F5) but the rest won't. The documentation on the causes is mostly non existant and rarely official IBM Lenovo but more frequenelty the charity of end users wishing to help the anonymous avoid their misery. What seems to be sure method, ..but time consuming is uninstalling then resinstalling all of the Thinkvantage applications and drivers and in the prescribed order which may vary from machine type, the support site should publish a list of driver instructions detailing driver version and order of installation and many of them require a reboot after every single installation. Even if you execute those steps, it still isn't guarante... I have a T500, with the latest updates from Lenovo and Microsoft.  It's running Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit. When I press one of the silver volume buttons above the keyboard (volume up, down, or mute) a black box appears near the bottom of the screen with a speaker icon, and a gray and white bar indicating the level, and white number on the right.  This seems to work correctly, and the buttons make the number go up and down, and white bar grow and shrink as expected.  Similarly, the Brightness (Fn-Home and Fn-End) make a similar box appear, which also seems to work correctly. The problem is that after I've done this, the black box does not go away, and it obscures that area of the screen.  I expect it to stick around a couple seconds after I've pressed the buttons.  But it is still sticking around HOURS after I've pressed the buttons.  If I Lock the computer (using Windows-L) the lock screen does not show the black box, but when I unlock it, the black box is there again.  This seems to happen every time I've used either the volume or brighness buttons.  The only way I've found to make it go away is to restart the computer. This is a new problem, and I suspect related to a recent update.  I've only noticed the problem in the last 2 weeks, and am quite sure I've used the volume keys before without this problem (actually, I seem to remember not a black box, but green bars and a number appearing on the scree... Additional to my other issue with the display brightness I've got also this question: In battery mode it seems that the display brightness is automaticly adjusted by the lightness of the screen content. For exampe if I start a program with a dark background the display becomes a little bit darker. In contrast, a brighter background makes the screen a little brighter. It isn't that strong like a tap on F7 or F8 - just a little bit. Of course it's a nice feature. But for me who uses a lot of applications at the same time it is a bit annoying. Can someone give me a hint where I can turn that feature off? Didn't find anything in the energy settings. Thomas

I recently purchased this W700 system, which is a great system to say the least, about a month ago. The system has been working flawlessly until about 2 days ago when all of a sudden the on screen display stopped working. It's very strange because when I adjust the volume, change the brightness settings of the display, or use any other function key, it doesn't display on screen anymore. After reviewing the downloads and drivers section of Lenovo Support, I noticed that a new driver was released at the end of March for the hotkey features (on screen display). I then verified that my current driver was an outdated version and proceeded with the update. To my dismay, the updated driver didn't resolve the problem. Has anyone ever dealt with this issue before? If so, any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated because I really have no idea what could be causing this problem.

Windows 7 pre-installed
CPU: Intel Core i3 380M
Motherboard: Dell Inc. 07FXP8
Graphics: Generic PnP Monitor ([email protected]) on Intel HD Graphics
Dell Inspiron N5040

Beginning today, I opened my laptop from sleep and noticed the display was at its lowest brightness setting. I then tried to restart it to see if that would solve it, no luck. I did some googling and found out it could be a problem with the graphics driver. I then disabled it and enabled it. Now the brightness is at its max settings.

The function (FN) + F4, F5 (the keys to adjust the brightness settings) do nothing. The brightness status will show up on the screen and only change 1 or 2 notches.

I then realized I should have a way to adjust the brightness via the Power Settings in the Control Panel. I even confirmed this with a friend. I should have the sliders to adjust the brightness but I do not. It's very strange.

This is the screenshot from my friend:

ThinkPad T61 (7665-11U) display problem. The display always appears after boot. However, occationally the display suffers either of two problems, seemingly with no cause: 1) "flutter"-- where bightness quickly cycles, alternates from side-to-side; or,2) it will go dark--the image is barely visible and the laptop responds to input (mouse, keyboard, etc). Either problem is intermittant. The display works normally otherwise. The fan is operational and the laptop does not run "hot". In fact, either problem cannot be induced by:-  open/closing the display, or pivoting hte hinges;-  gentle flexing of the laptop case;-  pressure on the keyboard and palm rests.. This is a hardware problem--not a software problem. I opened the laptop and inspected relevent ribbon connections, which appeared normal. A keyword search of this forum and others reveals all variety of display issues afflicting ThinkPad laptops, but I find no anecdotes identical to mine. Anyone experience either or both of these problems--and successfully identy their cause and repair them?

My 2 month old Thinkpad L512 display doesn't reach full brightness, except for a few seconds after bootup. Then it dims down to maybe 8 or so on a scale of 1-10. Which is often good indoors, but in a bright situation, I could use the extra screen brightness. The screen correctly dims significantly (to maybe 2 or so on a scale of 1-10) after siting idle for a few minutes, as specified in the Power settings. But when it recovers, it is at full brightness for 10 seconds or so, then dims back down to 8 and stays there until I repeat the cycle. I have poked around in the Display and Power settings, and the display is set to 100% there. Any ideas? Thanks! David

Hello. My device is Lenovo Thinkpad P40 Yoga (WQHD-version, Windows 10 Pro on build 16299.192). A couple of days ago System Update 5 notified me about a pending BIOS update. I then installed LENOVO R05ET75W (1.53), 2017-12-20 and rebooted. However, some time after that I started noticing that whenever you switch between full-screen applications from, let's say, the one that uses a dark background (for example: MyTube from Microsoft Store for W10) to a browser window which has white background the screen changes brightness gradually within the next two seconds, as if it has been dimmed upon displaying darker colors. This is extremely irritating to the eyes, as you can literally see the brightness getting increased in a few short jumps and this was not the case prior to that BIOS update if I am not mistaken. The actual brightness slider remains the same! It's just the additional effect of switching from dark to bright. I haven't updated anything else besides BIOS in the last two weeks and first noticed this about a day ago. I think the BIOS update came two days ago - unfortunately it does not show up in Installed Updates history (as the BIOS update opened a separate process and did not close the System Update window prior to the reboot), so I can't say for sure, but other than that the latest update I installed was on December 30th and I haven't been experiencing the issue I described above up until recently. The automatic brightness is turned off ... Everything worked perfectly until 12/19/2016. Then i noticed the volume up and down and mute hotkeys no longer worked or displayed onscreen as they always did. Neither does the brightness keys. I know they worked on 12/18/2016, just a day before. I tried updating Lenovo driver and reinstalling several drivers from Lenovo's website, still nothing. I entered the BIOS to ensure no changes were made there somehow, they weren't (Hotkey setting was Enabled). I noticed on 12/14/2016 a security hotfix was installed, KB3206632, which i uninstalled. Nothing else haas changed or had been done to the laptop. Also tried a cold shutdown and reboot, several times, no good. The Lenovo settings app shows the hotkey function enabled directly for the keys and not the Fx key functions (I did confirm the F1 key does offer help if i hold the Fn key and the mute/F1 key so mute should be the buttons default without the Fn key pressed). Not sure what else to try.Things I have reinstalled include the Intel chipset driver, video driver, Energy Management Driver, Intel Vrtual Buttons Driver, and Lenovo Quick Optimizer. Any ideas?

But nothing changed. How should I go about fixing this? Thank you and best wishes! EDIT:  I am running Win 7 Professional This is what I installed:http://support.lenovo.com/il/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-W-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-W50...http://support.lenovo.com/il/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-W-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-W50...

Answer:Still can't see volume and brightness changes on-screen after Hotkey Feature Integration

OSD works fine on my 7-year-old W500. with Win 7 Ultimate.  It's an excellent machine with SSD to give it new life. Can you see the correct OSD version 6.73.01 installed in Control Panel > Programs?  It appears as "On Screen Display" in the list (without "Lenovo" or "Thinkvantage". Does the the Full Screen Magnifier work?  Just to prove something in the package is working. I seem to recall that the HotKey package works in conjunction with other Lenovo packages that must also be up to date.  Not sure which ones.  Power manager may be one. Did you install HotKeys manually or via System Update?  If you have an older version of the package on your W500, it may be possible that is getting installed instead of the new one. I'm just guessing here, trying to give you some clues to check out.

Does this exist? Is there an On-Screen tough utility? I cannot seem to find this utility for download if it does exist. We're on a T410S. T.I.A. /Mark

I have a lenovo v570 with windows 7 64-bit and am having problems with the progress bars on the screen with volume and brightness.  The hotkeys still function correctly, but the bar that used to display near the bottom of my screen has suddenly disappeared. Any ideas? I've searched for hotkey drivers and have read other forums, but nothing has worked for me yet. Any help would be great. Thanks -csharp253

Answer:Satellite M30-404: can't change display brightness and THCI.dll is missing

Hi Tobias,

THCI.dll is the code for the Toshiba Function Key application which is used on your notebook to control the Fn key selection. You will need to install the Toshiba Control Functions utility from your Tools and Utilities CD (or download it from the Toshiba Download Page).

I thought these were toggled through the properties menu for the screen display, but apparently not.Well, I initially had them going but lost them somehow, probably in an acute rush of ineptitude, because I deleted most of the Thinkvantage utilities from my 3-day old-system (that's how long I tolerated them.... a record of sorts; liked the old Configuration setup better). I'm guessing I'll need to reinstall to get those little features back but if that's the case, does the ThinkVantage suite come with a pick-and-choose option? The default setup just seemed to insist on crippling my TP with too many virtual in-your-face training wheels....I've gone through three Thinkpads decade to date, and now I'm luvin' No. 4 (this R61e). It replaces a trusty T30 that lasted me just over 5 years, 24/7 (till the video cable assembly died).... Great display, comfortable keyboard, plenty fast for my needs, hope it lasts me another 5.

Answer:How to turn on the on-screen meter bar for light brightness and audio volume?

You probably need to install the HotKey driver, with that comes the On Screen Display driver.
If you haven't deleted the C:\SWTOOLS folder you'll find there in the DRIVERS folder.

Recently I had to clean VBS/Bugestore.A trojan off my computer and repair most of the harm it has done - turn the firewall back on, clean infected files, delete the ones my virus scan missed after three runs (one with the system restore off), replace the background picture and run CCleaner twice.

One thing I have not been able to undo is the fake alert screensaver the virus installed as well as making the display go into screensaver mode too quickly. I've looked at the XP help guide and it says the right-click My Computer, go the Properties and choose the Screensaver tab.

There no longer is any Screensaver tab! I have only Themes, Appearance, and Settings. Please provide any instructions on how to alternative access the screensaver options or restore the tab to the display screen.

Many thanks

Answer:[SOLVED] Missing tabs from Display screen

Welcome to TSF

You can do one of these but not both:

1. Navigate to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

If there is a DWoRD Value such "NoDispScrSavPage" with a data value of 1 this will disable the screen saver tab. Change the value to 0 or delete it to see the tab again.

2. Download this, run it, and click Yes when it asks if you want to "add this information to the registry."

I recently updated my BIOS from Lenovo's Drivers and Software page and it seemed to have locked my screen's brightness at the fullest setting. I've tried restarting the computer and adjusting it from the windows menu, but it still stays in one setting. It's too bright to use in dim situations now. Hi! my ThinkPad shows a strange behavior... Suddenly the screen brightness was reduced by the system. Brightness is "15" but it is darker than before. I can not find any option to raise brightness!!!! I am using a Lenovo power supply unit. It is annoying to use the ThinkPad at daylight. Really exhausting looking at a screen thats too dark. Any tips? Regards, nightwatch83

Answer:Screen Brightness (ThinkPad Edge 15)

nightwatch83,

Some basic questions...

If you reboot to windows and are on AC is the screen still dim?   Does it respond at all to screen brightness increase / decrease settings?

If you restart and go into BIOS on AC, how bright is the display?  Any different than in Windows?

If the problem seems isolated in Windows, I would reload the power manager and hotkey drivers and recheck the settings in power manager for screen brightness.

Best regards,

Mark

On my Thinkpad, the brightness is to low, even if I increase it to maximum. The only thing that seems to get the brightness to work correctly is connecting the laptop to an AC adapter.  What could my issue be?

Answer:Screen Brightness to Low on High on Thinkpad T60

The maximum brightness in battery mode is less than in AC-mode to save battery power. You can  increase it in the BIOS under Config - Display - Brightness setting the value to "high" (see explanation text on the right side after selecting that item).

Oh boy, where do I start? Well! Yesterday, I felt like hooking up my laptop to a TV for the sake of seeing if I actually could connect the two with a HDMI cable (as instructed by HP themselves). Shut off my laptop, shut off the TV, turned on the TV and set it to the right source, then booted up the PC- "No signal." I attempt to project the PC screen over with F4 (not holding the Function (Fn) key down, as that does not bring up the "Project" menu). It is glad to tell me that "Your PC is not able to project screens. Please update your driver or video card". That's fine, I'll try that. A few minutes later, and I have Device Manager open, opting to have Windows search for updates under Display Adapters for my Intel HD Graphics 5500. It claims that there are no updates. Okay, but there's still a caution sign next to Intel HD Graphics 5500 and it claims to have a Code 43 error. I go to the Intel site, look up some things, and find out that there are customized drivers for my laptop after getting an error stating that it could not install. Makes sense. After a bit more searching, I manage to find the correct driver. Even though it stated that the drivers on my current machine were newer (that wouldn't make any sense, I thought, since how else would I have the drivers I have now (unless they're private or something...?)), I replaced the driver with the latest version on the HP site for my PC (This one right here). I restarted as asked. It was at this point, I thi... Read more

Answer:Brightness option completely missing, Display Adapter claims...

Hi: The only suggestion I can offer would be to see if running the system restore utility fixes the problem. Pick a restore point to a time before you decided to hook up your TV to your laptop. Otherwise, you may have to back up any files you don't want to lose and do a factory reset of the notebook, since you have already tried to reinstall the graphics driver without success.

Does anyone have any idea on how to correct a problem I am having with my deaCentre A520? All of the sudden I can no longer use the touch buttons on the bottom of the screen. They light up when touched - HDMI, brightness, volume, etc - but they no longer work. I have been running Windows 10 for sometime now - I doubt it is a software issue with MS. Any idea on how to correct this issue? I can use the touch screen just fine - just not the control buttons on the bottom of the screen. Thanks.

Hello,I've got problem, that screen brightness and volume indicator sometimes got stuck (it looks like they stucked during dissapearing - it looks like 80% transparent, but it is still there and don't working) after waking from sleep/hibernate. Problem can be fixed when TPONSCR.exe is killed and re-runned, but it is annoying.. I've done everything from this knowledge base post: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/On-Screen-Display-not-working-after-resumin... but no diffrence. It does happen randomly, when waking up computer. I've got T510, clean install Win7 PRO 64bit, Microsoft Security Essentials Any suggestions?

Answer:Screen brightness and volume indicator sometimes get stuck after waking from sleep/hibernate

I found an easy solution to the Brightness bar getting stuck on the screen. Tap F5 a few times, which is the "Reduce Brightness" key. Then leave the computer alone. The bar will disappear. **bleep** annoying having that bar come up EVER, unasked. Lenovo needs to fix that!

Hi, Win 7 clean install worked pretty well.  Have downloade most Lenovo packages, incl HotKey, but excluding Presentation Director and Access Manager. But it seems, I can't get the green indicators (bottom center of screen) to work for when I press the volume, screen brightness, night light functions.  Any advice please?   Thank you.l

Answer:Hi, No Green indicators (volume/screen brightness) after successful Windows 7 upgrade.

Go to CONTROL PANEL > DISPLAY PROPERTIES > SETTINGS > ADVANCED. you should have 5 standard menus and about 8 ATI tabs and there should be a tab that says ON SCREEN DISPLAY click on this and that should give you the settings you need for volume/brightness/light and one other setting to be displayed on screen

Hi everyone, I bought a Lenovo ThinkPad P50 Signature Edition with a 4K matte display. Over time, I noticed that my display got laggier and laggier at full 4K resolution. If I lower my display resolution to 1920x1080, my display is fairly smooth. I'm not sure why my display isn't smooth at full resolution. I also noticed yesterday that my volume hotkey buttons above the full keypad don't work properly. My volume hot keys above my keyboard work fine, however. Is there any way to alleviate or fix these two issues?

Hi everyone. I've a problem with mi Lenovo ThinkPad T400. The brightness is always at the minimum, and cannot be changed. But it is like when you close the laptop and the screens turns off, it is almost like that, I need a lantern to see what appears in the laptop, but besides that everything else works fine. If I connect it to an external monitor, then there is no problem, but you know, I don't wanna carry an external monitor with the laptop. Do you know how to deal with this? Thanks in advance!

Hi all, I would like to share my recent experience of Thinkpad X1 carbon (4th 2016) screen brightness problem, and how this problem been solved. The laptop cames good and the F5 and F6 function for screen brightness adjusting is OK. Other methods, like in the setting menu and battery menu,  to adjust the brightness are all OK.After one hour or one day or some short time, you will find you cannot adjust the brightness. Even the battery & power options are not working. The problem comes from the driver. First I thought it is the problem of driver of monitor (wide viewing angle high density flexview display 2560x1440 driver). I uninstall, update, change...but none of them work. Finally, I find it is the problem of intel hd graphics 520 . There is another evidence that during the time only this driver of intel hd graphics 520 has been updated automaticly to the latest version! So I uninstall and roll back to the version 20.19.15.4331 and the problem is solved.I did not check the lates version of this driver. But I am sure that the latest version of intel hd graphics 520 has conflict with the lenovo driver for screen brightness! I am sure there are other people face the same problem after the update of hd graphics 520 driver. Any engineer please check it!

Hi I have a brand new E520 and I love it. But there's a quite annoying problem with the screen: it tends to change brightness (it gets brighter or darker in 3 or 4 steps). Could anyone tell me how to fix this? Thanks.

Answer:Thinkpad E520 screen brightness problem

My E520, which I bought about 2 weeks ago, also has a problem nearly like you. When screen returns after turning off for energy saver, its contrast becomes extremely high. I have to wait for a few minutes for it to turn back to normal. Besides, one more symptom is that if I use the buttons for decrease brightness, the lowest level is 2, not 1. I found that it's the Thinkpad Video Features ( Intel Hurom River GT1/GT2) for Windows 7 64 bit. I restored my laptop to before the time I install it, and everything's ok. By the way, it seems that Lenovo usually has problems about driver, isn't it?
