Preferred Solution: Creators Update Telemetry List

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

No content-based targeting. We take steps to avoid and minimize the collection of customer content, such as the content of files, chats, or emails, through the Windows telemetry system. Customer content inadvertently collected is kept confidential and not used for user targeting.Click to expand...

Greetings,

Mods may want to pin this for easy reference:

Microsoft has provided a compatibility list to determine if your computer running Windows 10 is eligible for the Creators Update. Here is that list:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...puter-is/5152bb37-f95d-48a6-b7b2-ad0d5c738923

While most systems will eventually get Creators Update, older systems, designed with processors for Windows 7 to 8.1 may not. For example, Adom Clover Trail processors, were discontinued by Intel and were produced from around 2012-2014, so those machines will only get fixes up to Anniversary Update. Search online for more details. Computers that were manufactured with Windows 10 out of the box, should be fine.

Microsoft will provide older processors running Windows 10 Anniversary Update with Windows 10 Updates until 2023. For machines that are newer and can get Creators Update, Microsoft will support Anniversary Update until March of 2018. The cycle is that support for a Windows 10 build will be good for 18 months per each release of Windows 10 Feature Updates for the life of the device that runs Windows 10.

It is also recommended that only advanced users upgrade to the Creators Update manually. The automatic update process includes processor and hardware checks before the download happens automatically. You may bi-pass some of those checks if you do the update manually. You will be asked to review your privacy settings, before the update begins.

Hello, I went for about 8 months without updating windows once... Yes I know I'm a dummy... and I noticed that my drivers needed updates desperately and I decided to go ahead and bite the bullet by downloading and installing all of the important updates at once. I created a restore point and did it. Now I have  GWXUX and GWX in my task manager. I used Task scheduler and disabled the two tasks associated with GWX. I also stopped a service from running that is called trkwrks or wrktrks or something that was telemetry related. I was just wondering if you had any advice for me in helping to secure my data from watchful eyes. Maybe a trusted tutorial that you know of that you could point me in the direction to. Thanks for your time

Answer:GWXUX and other post update telemetry stuff?

How did you notice that your drivers needed updates desperately? Drivers do not need to be updated at all as long as everything is working ok with the current drivers. Updating a driver can actually introduce problems, so, only update drivers to fix or improve an issue.

GWX Control Panel will help, and you can find lists of "bad" windows updates that you can uninstall and then hide.

Believe it or not, one of the updates that made it possible for Microsoft to bring the Get Windows 10 nagware app on so many Windows 7 computers is back, this time without a clear reason.

KB2952664 landed on Windows 7 PCs on October 4, and Microsoft hasn?t yet provided us with information on why exactly it re-released this patch given the fact that it doesn?t seem to bring any notable changes.

According to the official KB page, this update is only supposed to improve the upgrade experience to Windows 10, but given the fact that free upgrades are no longer available, it?s hard to believe that this makes sense for anyone.

Telemetry update
On the other hand, it?s important to note that this is a telemetry update, so it helps Microsoft collect information on compatibility issues that might be experienced during the upgrade to Windows 10.

?This update performs diagnostics on the Windows systems that participate in the Windows Customer Experience Improvement Program. These diagnostics help determine whether compatibility issues may be encountered when the latest Windows operating system is installed. This update will help Microsoft and its partners ensure compatibility for customers who want to install the latest Windows operating system,? the official KB page reads.

And, of course, users have already started asking questions about this new update, with some believing th... Read more

Current solid state drives need 'time to themselves' to do automatic garbage collection. Crucial recommends 6-8 hours (sounds like the hours when I'm getting some shut-eye) for the process to work.

Perhaps I don't understand what goes into operating system and motherboard design, but to me it makes sense for a user in 2014 to be able to select an overnight system setting that would provide power to any installed SSD's so they could optimize their performance, that would simultaneously deny power to other parts of the system like the processor and monitor that are power consumers and that might be spared wear-and-tear by the setting during the SSD optimization process.

Has this already been thought through and implemented or does it have lower priority than pretty, semi-transparent, pulsating tile icons? If it has, I have yet to find the search terms that point me to the solution.

Running the system with the BIOS setup screen burning into the monitor seems primitive to me.

Since there is an unsupported upgrade path to Creators Update for the Lumia 830, I'm curious if it's worth it. For those of you who have had experience with it the Creators Update on the Lumia 830, I'd like to consider the following:
1) Which build is more stable?
2) Does the 830 lose any functions such as camera capabilities, Wi-Fi, or other driver related issues?
3) Which build has better battery life?
What else can you think of?
Some have said that the 830 runs faster with the Creators Update. Has that been your experience?
So, the dilemma... stick with a stable known or enjoy the cutting edge.
Thanks to all for your feedback.

Spoiler (Highlight to read)IMPORTANT!!IMPORTANT!!Friends from Lenovo,Yesterday I did the update to the new version of Windows 10, called Windows 10 Fall Creators Update or Windows 10, version 1709, and after the update was done I find out that the hotkey driver, that controls the Fn commands on the keyboard of my Lenovo ThinkPad X220, doesn`t work correctly with this new version of Windows 10. Therefore, I would like to know what can I do to fix this issue, so the hotkey commands work properly again in my notebook, or if it is going to be an update of this file (8jvu43ww.exe) that I could install in my notebook to fix this issue. Could you please tell me what can I do to make the Fn commands work properly with the new update of Windows 10 (Windows 10 Fall Creators Update) or if it is going to be an update of the hotkeys that is compatible with the new version of Windows 10?I look forward to hear your comments, and I hope you already have an idea, an answer to solve this issue. Yours truly,Cristián Palau

Hi,

Since the update, Microsoft is pushing strange Update Packages to me. Before the Update, everything was fine, now the Text says i.e.:
for AMD64 based systems KB4051963

but what the heck, I do have a x64 based system (Intel).

I don't now now if it is just the text what is wrong or if MS is really pushing wrong Update packages onto my computer.

Anyone having a similar issue?

Answer:Since Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (1709) - Update Packages weird

It’s OK, it’s just the way MS have worded the update. It’s fine to download & install.
amd64 based is just meaning that it is x64 based windows instead of x86 (32 bit). AMD owns the IP for 64-bit processes that we all use. Doesn't matter if it is AMD or INTEL .

It's dej? vu all over again.

The correct behaviour of windows update over a metered connection is to offer the choice to download, or wait until on a non-metered connection.

The initial build of the Anniversary Update broke this, it skipped offering you a choice and went straight to trying to download - which of course stuck at 0% because... well... it's a metered connection! TenForums, and @Slartybart in particular were the only place on the internet that had found this bug, documented it and offered workarounds.
Set Wireless Network as Metered or Non-Metered in Windows 10
(this was in fact the very post that convinced me to register here).

Well, guess what - 15063.0 is broken in exactly the same way. After upgrading my first machine to Creators Update 15063.0 and checking for updates there's no 'Download' button - it just hangs at 0%.

The workarounds were: For Defender updates check for updates in Defender itself. Started from there an update would always be downloaded - even on metered connections. For Cumulative Updates, temporarily turn off metered connections. The stalled update would immediately start downloading. That bug in 1607 wasn't fixed until August 23, 2016 with KB3176934 (OS Build 14393.82).

Turning off metered connections has got me up to 15063.13 now. Until there's a new Defender definition available I won't know if the bug has been fixed (again). OK, there is, and it has.

It's disappointing that MS repeated their mistake of last time, but at least ... Read more

Answer:Windows Update with Metered connection fails: Creators Update 15063.0

Hi Bree,

I just did a clean install using the Insider 15063.0 ISO and my Creator updates are download OK through my metered wifi connection. I am currently on 15063.14 version 1703 (after updates).

However, on one of my rigs, I did encounter a problem where Windows Update was trying to download a driver and it turned out to be a Conexant audio driver. So, what I did was go to the device manager and updated the driver from there. Once done, my updates started to flow. After that, I went through every device and manually checked for updates and I found several PCI components that download updated drivers.

Sorry to hear you are having problems.

I deleted the link because it's not a good idea to download the link from a third party when Microsoft itself publishes the files. It's extremely difficult to know for sure if any third party is adding malware or something else into the files.

Sounds normal to me. Since all of your Windows Updates are up to date, there aren't updates to restart to.
Next week the first Tuesday of the month will probably have cumulative updates as well as other updates available sometime during the week and when the computer is ready to download and then install them you should see the option to update and restart shown again.

Microsoft Announces New Monthly Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Creators Update

Microsoft rolls out new cumulative updates every month on Patch Tuesday, including here not only security fixes targeting vulnerabilities in Windows 10 and installed Microsoft software, but also OS improvements and other tweaks refining the overall experience.

Today, the company announced that it would publish a second cumulative update for businesses running Windows 10 Creators Update, this time including non-security fixes.

Microsoft says that although it wants to release one such cumulative update every month (in addition to the security release on Patch Tuesday), there might be cases when more than a single extra cumulative update is shipped, depending on the bugs that it needs to fix.

These updates will be listed as ?Updates? in WSUS and Configuration Manager, with certain exceptions when critical issues affecting organizations are targeted, so the updates will be flagged as ?Critical Updates.?

Customers who use Windows Update for Business won?t have these updates installed automatically if options to defer quality updates are in place.

You can simply ignore these updates
The software giant explains that Windows 10 users getting these updates will be allowed to deploy them just like the updates that are shipped on Patch Tuesday, but at the same time, be provided with options to deploy each of them only to a subset of devices.

I've used the Update Assistant to manually update to the Creators Update. I wanted to make a system image (using Macrium Reflect) before starting the update.

I assumed this would simply download the update and I could then choose to start the installation later.

However, it appears to be performing some form of installation/configuration immediately after downloading the data?but before I "start" the update.

My query is that if I make a system image with my OS in its current state; will a revert back to this image cause any problems? Is there any way to undo the operation performed by the update assistant?

Thanks

Answer:Creators Update Manual Update: System Image Query

From the Power Icon off the start icon, hold down the shift key when you click on Restart. That should reboot the computer into the advanced troubleshooting menu. Somewhere in those options will be the choice to Revert to previous build.

Running the upgrade assistant as you did actually did the upgrade to the Creator's Update. If you wanted to manually download it for installing later, you should have run the Media Creation Tool ("download tool now" button on the Windows ISO page instead of the "Update Now" button) and saved the ISO file.

Before you do anything, though, wait for the update to complete!

For the those of you who are eager to get the Creators Update right away, you will be able to initiate the update manually, starting on April 5th, via Update Assistant. This option is intended for advanced users on devices running a licensed version of Windows 10.

I notice that many updates occur automatically. With small updates I don't even know they have occurred. I always try to make a restore point before a big update actually updates my comp. (for obvious reasons) and I am sometime given notice, often 18 hours or so, before the update will operate. That gives me time to create a restore point.

"Good news! The Windows 10 Creators Update is on its way" from "check for updates" search. My active hours are set at default: 10:00 to 22:00. "Schedule a time to restart your device" might help but mine has its slider greyed out and inactive. I remember having notice with the Anniversary Update.

Will I be given notice as described above with Creators, and if so how?

Thanks.

Answer:Creators Update: Will I be able to chose the time of actual update.

You have Home, so you can't defer upgrades.

and you can set your internet to 'metered' (Wifi and Ethernet) to disable updates.

And then there is the 12 hour period of active hours
Change Active Hours for Windows Update in Windows 10

Further, expect the rollout to be phased, so it might be a month or two before everyone receives it.

The good news? The new upgrade should offer more control options.
However, the trick of using metered connections may not work for critical updates.

When I started the PC the updates for security, 1607 & 1703 was ready to update.

Download speed 2Mb/s
1-it started the morning, later the afternoon it had installed the security updates, showed 1703 ready but it battled with 1603.
I let it download the whole night, it got stuck it looks like, a hole in my bandwith.
Two days waisted here.

2-Yesterday I got hold of the Update assistant, which did a few things.
Looks like it chuck out the 1703 & 1607.
3-I then did a Update fault finding, which said it fixed a few things.

4-I check my version status, still at 1511 build, Privacy checked as required.
5-I then let it download to 3% and switch it off for the night.

6-This morning I started the PC again, and the only update showing again was 1703 Creators Update.
This time it remembered the 3% and I let it continiue till afternoon at 100%.
It the rebooted a few times, and around 30% installing it reboot & did a diskfix which fixed some errors it said.
it the continiue to install sucessfully...So far everything looks ok, it takes longer to boot however.

7-Now its busy downloading KB2267602(WD definitions) & KB4034674(1703 Cumulative).

8-I am glad it over and went straight from Ver 1511 to 1703.

Answer:Best Windows Update settings for Creators Update?

I won't speak much to the update settings change for "notify only" but I will speak to the red text that reads "*Some settings..." These days, the notify only method is no longer explicitly available through Settings but through Group Policy. Another workaround is to set your home connection as metered in which case WU won't update automatically (you'll have to check for updates manually, because it won't notify you of pending updates, either -- but if you're a regular here at TenForums, you'll be notified in the News forum every time a new update shows up anyway). As for "*Some Settings..." that means some kind of policy tweak or change has been applied to your PC, and causes that message to appear. Making this go away turns out to be more trouble than it's worth: I've had it on my production PC since 1507 and I've yet to be able to clear it up since (along with lots of other people, if you search out the many threads devoted to that topic here).

Hello,

As many know, there are millions of machines that still run Windows 10 Anniversery Update. We have the Creators Update released las April and now the Fall Creators Update. Which applies:

1.) Windows 10 users running the Anniversary Update will receive the Creators Update launched last April and than the Fall Creators Update when MS determines that it is ready.

OR

2.) Windows 10 users will jump from the Anniversary Update to the Fall Creators Update when ready from Microsoft.

Or is this answer unknown?

Both my Alienware Aurora R5 desktop and Alienware R3 laptop got stuck on an infinite "preparing to repair" flash page upon restart and kept looping back to the page on both systems. I researched for days trying to bypass this garbage and ended up having to reinstall Windows 10 on both machines loosing everything.
I really am disappointed such a meaningless update bricked both systems as the update was clearly not ready. This really needs to be addressed for future updates. I will avoid any dell related updates like the plague in the future. I would not update this dell support update until this has been resolved.

I thought it installed yesterday as my laptop went through a fairly lengthly install process. The update history says feature update to Windows 10, version 1703 was installed.

But when I go to system information, it says I have Windows 10 Pro 10.0.15063, Build 15063.

So I am not sure which version I have. How can I tell definitely?

Thanks.

Answer:Creators Update - Do I have it or Not?

1703 is the creators update version number. It obviously didn't install? Try again!
Go to your system info. It should be there.

I have never received the Creators Update, version 1703. Someone on the Microsoft Forum said that because of the age of my computer, 2012, I may not ever receive this update.
Is this true? I have been told to just wait it out and when or if Microsoft gets around to it I'll get it.

Question: Creators update

I installed the creators update some months ago that helped solving some of the problems I had with windows. But after windows crashed and I had to reinstall it, I can no longer seem to get the creators update to work. I just get a message that says "thank you for updating windows" but nothing is actually being updated. Do I still need the creators update?

Answer:Creators update

Hi Cerawy.

What version and build are you on?

Windows key + R, type winver, enter.

Please post version and complete OS build number.

All my drivers are up to date and all my Windows updates have been applied.
Any ideas?

Not nearly enough info. What you need to do is go to the BSOD Crashes and Debugging sub forum and follow the instructions that are laid out in BSOD Posting Instructions. This will make it much more likely that someone will be able to help you.

Question: Creators Update

I don't particularly want to do a manual download but am I the only one that hasn't received the Creator's Update yet? I also read somewhere that certain applications running on a computer might stop the update from downloading.

Answer:Creators Update

Judesman said:

... I also read somewhere that certain applications running on a computer might stop the update from downloading.

The Creators Update is being rolled out in phases, so you may still be waiting for your turn to see the 'Features update to Windows 10, version 1703' in windows update.

It's not so much problems with installed apps (the update can ask you to uninstall those) it's more that there are some known issues with particular hardware - PCs that have such issues are blocked from receiving the Creators Update until Microsoft have developed fixes for these issues. There's more on the phased rollout here...

Windows 10 Creators Update rollout: First phase update
Windows 10 Creators Update roll out on track and expanding

I don't particularly want to do a manual download...

Then don't. 1703 doesn't look much different from 1607 an you will continue to get security updates. A manual install bypasses the blocks on 'problem hardware', so it's safest to wait patiently until it's offered through windows update.

Answer:Creators Update.

Use Winkey + R and run Winver to find out what version you have. The Creators Update is version 1703, os build 15063.nnn (where nnn increases with each cumulative update).

You will know it's on its way when Update & Security shows 'Features Update to Windows 10 version 1703' is available or being downloaded.

After last week's MS Patch Tuesday I have had KB4013214 installed (Upgrade and Privacy Experience update) and I was wondering when Creators Update will start appearing there soon. I did also spot that HP Assistant has updated itself either - which may (or may not) be related. So this poses the question: Did anybody here get Windows 10 Creators Update installed automatically (sort of, not via Upgrade Assistant) via Windows Update yet? Apologies if this question has been asked already...

Question: creators update

I was wondering if anyone is having trouble with the creators update? I installed it on a desktop and laptop. The laptop seems ok with it. The desktop appeared ok at first, but after a couple of days things started happening. Keyboard would freeze, chrome with bing started freezing, not responding. I reverted back to v1607 and now everything appears fine. I know they're going to force it on me (creators update is coming), but unless they work out the bugs, I don't want it. After checking it out while it was working I found there's really nothing in it that interests me anyhow. The laptop did have one bug that I found so far. C: drive wasn't recognized in the defrag and optimize program (hdd), but I fixed that. I downloaded it early and maybe that's the problem. Maybe it'll be ready when it becomes ready over windows update.

Answer:creators update

Good morning. I had no problems with the CU process on two machines. Only problems I (and others, but not everyone) now have is it has crippled the Windows Update process. Don't know about waiting to get it via WU, I did this machine with the Win 10 Upgrade Assistant and the laptop with WU. Both are exhibiting the same Windows Update issues.

Good luck.

I noticed some things wrong after I downloaded the Creators Update.
1. The date and time is missing on the Task bar. Only one number of the time and the colon is showing.
2. When I right click on the Task bar, there is no button to adjust time and date.
3. Task bar cannot be checked to lock the Task bar.
4. My PC takes a lot longer to shut down.
5. Where did Control Panel go? It was there when I right clicked on the Start Menu before the Update.
6. There are things going wrong by the second. Just lost control of the mouse.
7. Menu items are disappearing randomly.

Answer:Bugs in Creators Update

FWIW, I have none of the seven problems you listed. However, if you right click over the time area, you will get the option to adjust date/time.

After creators update installed I have gotten pages Windows services running. My machine is running at about 50% CPU. At idle it's usually around 15 to 2%. I've never seen so many services running at 1 time sine Win NT!!

See Screen captures 1 & 2

Answer:Win 10 after creators update installed

A change was made in Creators Update regarding how services were run. Previously each instance svchost.exe could be hosting multiple services. From 1703 on each service is hosted separately. It looks at first glance that a lot more services are running, but actually it's about the same number - it's just that you can see them all now.

In Windows 10 v1703 systems with more than 3.5 GB of RAM, each service would get its own service host (svchost.exe), instead of running under a shared service process....
...from Windows 2000 to up until Windows 10 v1607, each svchost.exe process used to host a set of services ? a model originally designed to reduce resource usage by services.

jimdot said:

That's because svchost.exe only started hosting multiple services from Win2000 on.

Hi everebody, i recently bought a HP Stream Laptop 14-ax007nl with a 32GB hd. I tried to install the new Windows creators update, but i always get in return an error message saying that's no room enough on my hd to complete the installation. Has anyone tried to do the same thing with the same machine? If so, how was the problem worked out? Many thanks in advance for you answers. JayBlue

Answer:Windows 10 creators update

Hi,There are a couple of options.First lets perform a disk cleanup and try to create space on drive. Right-click on the drive c: in any folder and click on properties.  Now click on disk cleanup and wait while the space gets calculated, In the next window click on clean up system files and wait for further calculation. Now in the window that appears mark all the unnecessary file (such as old updates, temporary files etc...) and press OK and delete the files. See if there is enough space for installation.Insert a Usb pendrive with at least 10 GB of free space and start computer. During installation of the update if there is not enough space it should give you the option to use the drive for installation purpose. After the installation is complete you can remove drive.Take a look at this link: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/not-enough-disk-space-for-annive...Hope it helps,David

What kind of device, please be specific are you trying to update?

What do you mean you get past boot up screen into BioScience? Normal machine boots, you click somewhere, you enter password and then your desktop appears. Yours sounds different.

Creators Update includes many changes and tweaks varying from important to cosmetic. I have selected 7 of these changes that I think that everyone should be aware of. Other Members will hopefully add theirs to this list....

1. New Privacy Controls

These have been significantly revised and you will need to check and reset your privacy controls after applying the Creators Update. The controls are now more granular and provide a more user-friendly way to protect your privacy.

2. Settings Improved

The Settings app has had a rework which results in an improved layout and easier to navigate and find what you are looking for. After the update check all your personal Settings as some of these may have reverted to "default", which might not be what you want.

3. Improved Windows Defender

WD is starting to become a mature app with a much more modern "Look & Feel" and now boasting a Security Center. But be careful...... the option to reset your computer to Factory Settings has been moved into WD - you would not want to do that by mistake... WD gets bad press in most magazines - you can believe those reviews if you want to but my personal experience is that WD provides more than adequate protection for anyone who uses just a little "common sense" when online.

4. Start Menu Reorganized

I use the word "reorganized" because whether this is an "improvement" will depend on personal preference - but you will have to take a good look... Read more

I mean, really? What is so significant, that MS had to call it "something" update?? It is so minor, it could easily be launched as normal patch tuesday update. We got nicer "settings". Wow, really. They are just repairing the damage they've done from 8.1 to 10. For example: VPN connection.
They did not deliver half of the promised features: 6 exciting features that got cut from the Windows 10 Creators Update | Windows Central
Where are onedrive placeholders? That shouldn't even be a feature, that is common sense!
And when I see windows capture 3D, most futuristic feature, it just makes me lol, it looks like MS made that video so everybody would get excited, and then they were hoping that everyone would just forget when they wouldn't deliver (as usual).
And more, dynamic lock doesn't even work, at least for me. And I'm using SP4 and lumia 950XL. Most MS setup as possible. I feel like I'm constantly getting BETA SW from MS, but I am not even rolled in developers preview!
And if I go deeper, DPI scalling problem on different screens is still present, I have to restart my SP4 if I don't want to have blurry fonts in MS office after I disconnect it from the dock (external 1080p screen). Yes, MS's own MS office still has DPI scalling problems on MS's own devices. How f***** up is that?!

Answer:Creators update rant

The Creator Update is definitely a minor update, but by no means is it equal to a typical security update or cumulative patch. Seriously, have you not noticed the pattern?
Threshold 1: First public release of Windows 10. DEFINITELY major.
Threshold 2: Minor update to Threshold 1, focused on refining the experience.
Redstone 1: Major update to Windows 10, added loads of features.
Redstone 2: Minor update focused on refining the last major update. Which it DID.
Redstone 3: Major update? Probably.
Yes, RS2 is minor, but it DOES add some nice features and improvements, and it most certainly runs better than any other version of Windows 10 out there. I too lament the loss of some much looked for features in Windows 10, but they're not here because they're not ready yet. We'll just have to wait for RS3. The only reason the Creator Update is getting so much flak is because we have the privilege of knowing what Microsoft is striving for so we have to face the disappointment when not everything makes the cut. You think Google or Apple achieve all of their plans with every major software release? We just don't hear about the plans, so to us every improvement is new and exciting.

Wow! My wife was playing a game on her pc (The games was downloaded months ago and she wasn't online) when bang - the computer screen went black and after a short time a message came on-screen to not shut off the computer and that Microsoft Windows updates where being installed and that the computer would restart several times. This happened at 2:00 pm and finally finished updating at 4:00 pm. It turns out that Microsoft went ahead and installed the Creators update without even asking - bang and away it started.

No option to opt-out of doing it, they just did it. She will never use any of that stuff.

She hasn't spent much time on it since the upgrade so we don't know if the printer still works, or if her games are still working or if everything is still working.

I sure wish they would give people the option to opt-in or out instead of just doing it. Doesn't seem right to me!

Your thoughts please...

Looks like our members are starting to receive/install the Creators Update! If you're among them, what are your first impressions??

Answer:Creators Update First Impressions

Like the save tabs for later option. I'll definitely be using that for various web researching, shopping and other things.
The inclusion of a phone app, mobile hotspot, SMS/MMS settings is interesting to say the least (I knew somewhere in myself they were unifying mobile into windows proper but its gratifying to see this level of confirmation)
Nitelight is good because I always used to run f.lux. And gamemode is really handy for low speed devices, like my tablet, although it annoys me there's no way to set it always on for certain games (because pressing windows + G on a touch keyboard and running windowed at first, is defo an added annoyance)
Haven't really any need for folders on startmenu yet. There seems to be enough here in this update you could easily not even notice certain features.
The new windows store layout, and some of the graphical stuff like groove is nice.
I also like that they streamlined the update itself. AU took too long.

Microsoft Lumia 950/950 XL
Alcatel IDOL 4S
Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL

UPDATE: We?re seeing that some small percentage ~0.1% of eligible Mobile devices, including variants of the Alcatel IDOL 4S, are not being offered Build 15204. We?re working on updating the targeting to include them for the next flight.

Devices not on this list will not officially receive the Windows 10 Creators Update nor will they receive any future builds from our Development Branch that we release as part of the Windows Insider Program. However, Windows Insiders who have devices not on this list can still keep these devices on the Windows 10 Creators Update at their own risk knowing that it?s unsupported.

In Windows 10 Creators Update, Smartscreen can now be customised under Windows Defender Security Centre (via Windows Settings).

By default, Smartscreen is set to Warn the user, but you can now increase device security by;

Application Reputation can be set to Block
Malicious Downloads and Websites can be set to Block (affects Microsoft Edge only)
This option is good for less experienced computers users.

If I turn on one computer (call it A) and then turn on computer B, computer A can view computer B's folders, printer, etc. Computer A does not appear to be on the network from computer B. But I can ping computer A without a problem. Everything worked properly before the upgrades. And yes I performed a network reset on both machines and nothing changed. Is this situation related to the buggy network browser in creator's update? And is there anything I can do to remedy the situation?

does the windows 10 creators update occupy drivers so it's possible after a creators update the bsod will disappaer or is it not recommended to do a creators update on a system with bsod?

Answer:creators update :drivers

The update process will load new drivers for many of your devices so it might help if your BSOD is due to a device driver. Having said that I would not recommend an update on a PC which is likely to crash with a BSOD at any moment. If the crash occurs during an update you might end up with a system that becomes corrupted and either won't start or won't revert back to a previous installation.

Have you attempted to fix your BSOD problem?

I am using the upgrade assistant to download the Creators Update and have a screenshot that states "It's easy to go back if you don't like it." I currently have Version 1607 OS Build 14393.1198 Windows 10 Home. I had read that Version 1703 is the more secure Windows 10 version, and was curious as to why I would be offered the option to rollback if I don't like it if 1607 is no longer considered the secure version?

In other words, it makes no sense to offer a rollback option if a previous version is considered unsecure or less secure and since a system check is initiated before your download for a compatibility check; I really don't understand the reasoning behind this one.

Microsoft is saying the 1703 version is the more secure build and if your machine can support it through the compatibility check; then why are they offering a rollback option? It is kind of like saying "If you don't like having a more secure OS, we will give you the option to be less secure again; so it is your own fault if something goes wrong."

Anyway, I thought this was a forced update to those machines that pass the compatibility check as shown in my screenshots:

Answer:Creators Update rollback possible?

Windows 10 always gives you the option to rollback, usually within 10 days, so you can test drive the update and see if there are any older device drivers for sound, video, printer, etc that are incompatible. This would be unusual but at least the option is there.

My issue is: after updating my PC to the Windows 10 Creators Update, my office license has been reset and so when I type my key to active it I get pumped up with the "Your installation cannot be activated because you have activated up to the limit of your Multiple Activation Key."
So Deval, suggested that I reinstall my Office Pack, but I already did a "Fresh Start" from the Windows Defender's Security Center, so the Office Pack has been once uninstalled and the installed on that "Fresh" Windows 10 Creators Update, and I still cannot activate the license and that's why I contacted support.
From what the support side provided that I should go and buy new Office Pack License from the Windows Store.
Really, Microsoft!?! Just for updating my Windows 10 to the Creators Update you make us pay for new License of the Office Pack, cuz there is obviously no way to go back before updating, because of the Fresh Start, so we can transfer our License to Other PC and then update and transfer it back to our own PC. Or giving us the option to deactivate an KEY so it can be used again from us, who obviously own that KEY.

Answer:Troubles after the Creators Update

Seriously, it revokes your Office license? That would be earth shattering news and be widely reported if true. Are you sure that's what happened?

Hi there,
As yet, the Creators Update did not get pushed to our 580 MT via Windows update. As the 580 MT is not certified by Dell to run Win 10, & also as we have the upgraded RAM, Graphics Card & the Hard Drive from "stock" to keep it more current, I am wondering if this machine will ever get this update automatically.
I know it is possible to update to Creators Update Manually, but of course that contains risks, so I thought I would first of all check if any 580 MT owners had received the automatic update, what their experience was, & also if anyone had done the Manual Update.
Here are the specs of our machine
CPU is an Intel Core i3 Processor 530(2,93GHz,4MB)
8 GB of RAM onboard
Nvidia GT220 Graphics Card
Seagate SSHD 1GB

Looking forward to any replies

Answer:Win 10 Creators Update on Inspiron 580 MT. Anyone tried this yet?

There are no updates for Non Supported Legacy hardware.Windows 10 drivers are NEVER forthcoming for Nvidia GT220 etc. All that means is you have to use the Legacy VISTA or 7 Drivers that Apply to your system.  If you clean install WINDOWS 10 1703 you will have to put back the Legacy Drivers that Apply to your system.
http://www.nvidia.com/page/legacy.html

http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/Software-Support-Legacy-Graphics.aspx

Applicable Operating Systems:

Windows® 10 (32 & 64-bit versions)
Windows® 8.1 (32 & 64-bit versions)
Windows® 7 (32 & 64-bit versions)

Users with AMD Radeon HD 4000 Series and older products looking for driver support, please refer to KB article:  Driver Support for AMD Radeon™ HD 4000, HD 3000, HD 2000 and Older Series

This does not mean it will stop working or otherwise have problems.
It means that only the Legacy Drivers can be used on the unsupported hardware.
Clean installs as well as well as upgrades still work fine on many machines going back to 2005.  Earlier than that WONT WORK with 8.0 8.1 or windows 10 because they do not support NX(Execute Disable Bit) or LAHF/SAHF  CX16 etc.

If you can?t install the latest Microsoft updates read on!
I have posted on here before because my pc would not update to build 1703 or 1709. I was advised to do a clean install but this is too drastic as you lose your programmes. It has taken months and 14 major crashes because eventually Microsoft activates the update assistant which overrides any option to defer feature updates and you get stuck in a loop. I spent hours researching the problem and watching the pc restore itself to v1607 so many times and I was in despair. I am not a techie and did not see why I should have to solve what is a very big problem.
The Microsoft Community support site has numerous postings from desperate people about this and I have followed all sorts of instructions but nothing worked. Now my grandson has worked the magic for me. He updated the BIOS but it still crashed. He then updated drivers, removed all peripherals like USB speaker connections and connected an Ethernet cable so he could remove the wireless card from the motherboard. Bingo! I now have v1709. It may have been any one of those things or maybe all of them but this has worked for others too so I hope it helps more people.

Having been notified of the 1703 update, I set it running, eventually getting the message:

"We can't install some updates because other updates are in progress."

I hit the retry button with the same result.

I restarted the laptop and tried again, with the same result.

I ran the Troubleshooter Updates Fixer and received the following messages:

Possible fix: delete and re-download updates. (I skipped this option.)
Potential Windows Update Database error detected. Fixed.
Some security settings are missing or have been changed. Fixed.
Service registration is missing or corrupt. Fixed.
Windows Update components must be repaired. Fixed.

I tried to update again with the same result and the same error messages on the Update Fixer, so I allowed the Update Fixer to delete and re-download updates, eventually getting the message:

"We can't install some updates because other updates are in progress."

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Creators Update Failure

Hi Andy Kay. Welcome to the TenForums @Andy Kay

Since you tried the installed trouble shooter I would try this one.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...troubleshooter

Then I would try sfc /scannow.

Failing success on these fronts I would do an in place repair / upgrade.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

As with all significant OS updates I would ensure I have my data backed up off machine and I would create an Image with a tool like Macrium Reflect. Better safe than sorry.

Have you managed to install Intel RST drivers on a fresh CU copy?

I've just installed CU on my new XPS 9360 and when attempting to install RST, I'm getting "platform not supported error". I found some threads over the web saying Intel hasn't updated its RST drivers for CU, but no specifics nor way to overcome were given.

I've tried with the 15.2 version officially advised by Dell but also with 15.7 version got directly from Intel's website. Both installers failed.

Why is the Fall Creators update coming on Sunday instead of Tuesday? I still haven't received the April Creators update. Will Fall update skip the April update? Just curious.

Answer:Oct 17 Creators Fall update

If you have not had the CU upgrade, then getting the Autumn upgrade seems unlikely as well. Something is probably glitching.

You can manually upgrade by downloading iso, mounting as a drive as running setup.exe. No real point in installing CU now though.

Hello,I am willing to try another more time (this will be the last try) to update my system. As you already know, my system is Windows 10, originally installed the Hebrew version and tailored on it the English language. Also installed Office 2007 and other programs installed.Right now, after some updates were recently installed, system's version is 1511 (OS Build 10586.1007).Once made a try to create the Iso file with the tool and tried to update - it did not work. And by the way, the Iso file was a copy of current system. Now I am asking your help to decide which way to go, I face 3 options:
1. The traditional way, in the system's setting 'chk for updates' and so on, this is lot of time and lot of updates.
2. From "https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10"
by pressing the 'update now' button, or
3. From "https://www.microsoft.com/he-il/software-download/windows10"
pressing same button, this is the windows Hebrew site.Cannot make a clean install as this will wipe Office and all other programs.Made a new updated image backup with Macrium on a second disk.Cannot boot from usb, no such option in bios settings. So waiting for your help, and if possible, step by step.ThanksMotim
PS. Any antivirus software is not installed, only windows defender.

So getting the 633 error that the modem (USB data stick) is in use or not properly configured. Uninstalled & removed all, then rebooted & plugged in which it automatically re-installed. No "yellow bangs (!)" in the hardware device manager & even diags talking to the modem is fine (so it is detecting just fine). I found some older threads that "Dial Up Networking (DUN)" had similar issues when people updated to 1607 (Anniversary edition) so did they break the same thing again?

Answer:Error 633 DUN & Creators Update

Do not waste your time on this. DUN is broken in build 1703. See these threads.https://www.tenforums.com/network-sh...tml#post981562https://social.technet.microsoft.com...tpronetworking

I work for a company that has about 200 desktop and laptop running Windows 10 (most are HP's)on our own domain and after the fall creators update, we have experienced Unauthenticated network messages as well as download issues in all browsers (Edge, IE 11, Chrome, Firefox). We have tried a lot of fixes found online and the only solution we have found is to do a OS repair install. With this many computers (and they are spread out over 4 plants in different locations) it is not convenient to travel to all the sites to do this fix. Is there any other advice out there?

I have four Windows computers, and generally use only three. The forth was an older Vista machine that was given to me, and I took it with the intention of loading it with Linux Mint. However, when I get it hooked up and powered on, I found someone had replaced Vista with Windows 10 Home -- so, I resisted the temptation to scrub the hard disk and set it aside. A few weeks later, I checked for updates, and brought it up-to-date. A few weeks later I got the "Good News! The Windows 10 Creators Update is on its way...." Since this is an older machine, I didn't want to jump into anything, so I'll letting it set, and continued checking the Creators Update message weekly.

Some postings I've seen implied that the "Want to be one of the first to get it?" message will go away; but I eventually got impatient and jumped in: the update proceeded without any problem.

QUESTION: Will the "Want to be first...." message go away on my other machines (the ones I use) and imply that all the device drivers for my particular configuration are ready and the Creators Update will be about as safe as it is gonna get, so I could go ahead with the update? My main machine, a Intel Core 2 Quad-Core, is nine years old and was custom made for me with components I choose & purchased. It will be last. But I'd like to slowly proceed with the other two ...

Answer:When is Creators Update safe?

On each pc, make an image backup, upgrade and try it - proof of the pudding.......
