Upgrading windows 10 professional version 1607 to version 1703 Error code 0xc1900200 What determines partition sizing?

Question: Upgrading windows 10 professional version 1607 to version 1703 Error code 0xc1900200 What determines partition sizing?

Yesterday I upgraded one computer from windows 10 version 1607 to version 1703 (OS Build 15063.13) using the Microsoft Update Assistant.
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows_10-windows_install/how-to-upgrade-to-windows-10-creators-update/74dbfd8a-d36b-4939-bc24-e99bf9374fe7
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3159635/windows-10-update-assistant
This is disk management on the computer that was upgraded using the Microsoft Update Assistant:

This computer was used to reproduce a Windows defender offline blue screen boot loop. The troubleshooting menu on a windows 10 1607 iso did not have startup options with safe mode and command prompt to turn off windows driver verifier. The partitions
on the SSD drive were deleted making the drive unallocated. Then the windows 10 version 1607 was installed. And as above it was upgraded to version 1703 yesterday without any problems. The Windows defender offline incompatibility problem
with Windows driver verifier was tested with windows 10 version 1703 and the blue screen boot loop was fixed by Microsoft so that it is no longer occurs.
A second computer had the option via windows updates to get an early edition of 1703.
This update method was selected and this morning it displayed:
Something went wrong.
Error code 0xc1900200
This computer had Windows 10 version 1607 and also had a Windows defender offline blue screen boot loop. It was fixed in a store. There the files were saved in a windows PE environment. The bios settings were changed from Legacy to UEFI
native without CSM. Using the bios the internal hard drive was sanitized. The Windows 10 version 1607 was reinstalled. Files, drivers, and some applications were reinstalled.
This computer had problems with its first boot which was very sluggish. A second reboot displayed restarting with rotating white dots on a blue background for hours. It never booted to the wallpaper or lock screen. It was powered off and
on. An administrative command prompt sfc scannow run was very slow. It displayed no integrity violations. A dism restorhealth was also very slow and eventually completed successfully.

One week later the computer booted to a HP icon without rotating white dots on a black background. It had to be powered off and on.
Each of these displayed a critical event in the event viewer that windows was not shut down properly.
With these two boot hangs the Windows performance recorder was used to record tracings for the boot. I had submitted these tracings in another link. So far there has not been any analysis.
In addition to sfc scannow and dism restore health, chkdsk /f /r was ran.
The computer is now in clean boot. I was wondering whether upgrading to windows 10 version 1703 would potentially fix the boot hangs.
Last night I attempted to upgrade this computer from Windows 10 1607 to version 1703 and it failed with error code 0xc1900200.
This is disk management on the computer that was fixed in the store:

1) Does the source of the Windows version 1607 whether it is from a windows 10 iso, Microsoft directly, or form HP recovery media determine the size of the partitions on the drive?
2) What determines the size of the partitions on the drive when installing windows 10 version 1607?
3) If this was at first a windows 7 professional factory install that was upgraded to windows 10 version 1511 would that have impacted the partition sizing?
4) It was a clean install with sanitizing in the store. How come the windows 10 version 1607 did not have partition sizing appropriate for version 1703?
5) How do you fix the internal hard drive partition or partitions so that windows 10 professional version 1607 can be upgraded to version 1703 and make 100% sure that all files are safe?
6) If you knew in advance about the partition needs of version 1703 and you were planning to install 1607 today and upgrade to 1703 in 6 months how would you perform a clean install with version 1607 so that you could later easily upgrade to version 1703?
7) I am a novice with diskpart. The information from this link was used: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/300415/a-description-of-the-diskpart-command-line-utility
This is a onedrive link to the diskpart commands and chkdsk today: https://1drv.ms/t/s!AhdfDD74t_q2jRFgGRc5-2tanR10

Before the attempted upgrade form version 1607 to 1703 chkdsk /f /r was ran and it completed successfully. This was only days ago. At the end of the diskpart today I typed chkdsk and it displayed corruption.
I plan to run chkdsk /f/ r again.
8) Do you think the attempted update caused the corruption? Do you think the diskpart commands that I just entered caused the corruption? If not then what typically causes the corruption within days of a prior successful chkdsk /f /r?
9) Isn't there a log file of the chkdsk /f /r somewhere in the eventvwr? Would that be of any value now? If so how do you find it?
Ideally upgrading to a newer version of windows solves many problems.

Please see all of the questions above and if you would please number your replies so I can follow the answers for each.

Preferred Solution: Upgrading windows 10 professional version 1607 to version 1703 Error code 0xc1900200 What determines partition sizing?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

On one of my computers the windows update displayed an option for an early windows update.

This update failed with error code 0xc1900200.

The size of the partition is 100 MB.

One computer that has already been upgraded has a post upgrade partition size of 100 MB. It was a windows 10 iso clean install of 1607 followed by a Microsoft upgrade assistant upgrade.

Apparently 100 MB does not equal 100 MB if the drive manufacturers are different????

These are the links that I have come across so far in looking for a solution so far.

I'm seeing the same thing here - 2 latops with Pro and Defer Upgrades set have both started to download 1607 (or at least tried - I need to free up some disk space before it will succeed).

I have ugraded to version 1607 and I notice the restart time is 2.5 longer than version 1511. The boot time is about the same on both versions. I also did a clean install of version 1607 and the restart time was still about 2.5 times as long as version 1511.
What is going on with version 1607?

Answer:Why does Windows 10 Version 1607 take about 2.5 times as long to restart as Version 1511 does?

What is going on with version 1607? you've checked startup programs? Any that are on by default?

I have an RCA Cambio 2n1 Tablet running Windows 10 version 1607 (Anniversary Edition). I have a program that I desperately need to run that is only offered for x64 systems. I understand that I have to do fresh install but I cant seem to find one on Microsoft's site. The windows Update Tool doesn't offer the version I need.

Answer:how can I get a version of windows 10 x64 version 1607 for an RCA Tablet 2n1?

Hi Welcome to Window Central! I'm sorry, but I have no idea what your trying to accomplish. Research shows me you are already running 64bit. If that is not the case, you would have to update your OS to a 64bit system. That is not a easy task. Here's link to WC "How to"! I have Windows 10 Home 64-bit installed on a PC and have realised that it's been failing to install the anniversary update 1607 for a few months (I'm always seeing the 'Update and Shut Down' option but then getting a notification after start-up which says 'Updates failed to install').

In the Windows Update settings I can see the following message "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1607 - Error 0x80240fff". Some other updates for Windows 10 1511 have successfully installed through Windows Update last month.

I've created a USB stick using the Windows Media Creation Tool. I first tried running setup.exe from the USB - it seemed to be working until the upgrade just stopped, went back to my desktop and gave me a dialog which said 'Windows 10 installation has failed'. I also tried booting from the USB and upgrading that way but it suggested that if I wanted to keep my documents and programs I'd need to do it from within Windows rather than booting separately.

This is now driving me a little crazy! Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this? I'd like to keep my documents, programs and settings if possible.

Answer:Update failing - Windows 10, version 1607 - Error 0x80240fff

Hello,
I suggest you start with a couple of basic checks:
- your file system
From an admin command prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:
How do I see the results of a CHKDSK that ran on boot? - Ask Leo!
Make sure the result is clear or fixed- else do not proceed.

- your system files
At an admin command
sfc /scannow
Wait, and post the summary result.

Please post a screenshot of Disk Management
(Windows key + R, click Disk Management)
- use the icon to the left of the video icon above your post 'Insert Image'.

Assuming the above is ok and you have some 20Gb spare on C: and 500Mb of unallocated space on your system disk (in case a new recovery partition needs to be created) then

Do a manual upgrade. Having the iso download (as you have) has the following advantages:
- you can use it again- for other PCS, to try again,
- should you need to do an in-place upgrade repair
- for certain repair and boot options
(written to a DVD or bootable drive).

But: before you do the upgrade, use Macrium Reflect (free) (or similar) + its boot disk + large external storage for disk images and create a disk image for recovery in case anything goes wrong (and it can!).
(Macrium option 'Windows Backup')

However, I expect your USB drive will now install the new Creator's upgrade, not 1607.
When you attempt the upgrade, disconnect all unnecessary peripherals, esp. wir... Read more

Hi there

@cereberus

In theory could be OK - but I'm always suspicious if someone wants me to register to become a member and supply an email address.

to me FREE means FREE - to quote a well known British Politician "....No If's, no Buts......"

If I have to start giving out email addresses etc -- then I don't want it -- now why not make the Pro version say a nominal charge at 5 USD or something like that and then offer it --no email / no registration (apart from a 1 time payment which you could do by any of the zillions of online payment methods).

Also being a non US citizen - I HATE the whole idea of "Black Friday".
I'm spending the ENTIRE day in pubs tomorrow -- as far away from shopping as I can get - even THINKING about shopping will be a 100% no no for me.

If US wants that type of "Celebration" - that's fine - they are an independent nation and of course are 100% entitled to their own traditions - but there are actually some people in other countries who have a lot better things to do than going on an endless shopping spree --even if it is getting 100% drunk in various boozers on the day !!!!.

Cheers
jimbo

Hi

I joined the Insider Preview Program 4 months ago. I regularly updated all builds but since about 3 weeks, I do not receive any updates. I know that the last build is 10532 but I do not receive those updates. I contacted Microsoft this morning and they tell me that th1 10240 is a version for developers and that I am not supposed to have this version.

Since I installed Windows 10 Insider Preview over my Windows 8.1, what can I do to remain in the Program but moving up to version 10532?

I hope my question is clear (I'm French Canadian).

Thanks in advance for your response.

Go to This PC.
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
Open C drive > open Windows > open SoftwareDistribution
Delete all the contents inside SoftwareDistribution folder. ( Do NOT delete the folder. Just the contents inside the folder).
Now see if you still get the same update downloading and installing over and over again.
P.S. You should post the KB number of the update in question. It makes matter a lot clearer.

Hi, No, it won't be shown in Windows Update. Microsoft says it will notify you when your machine ready but you can jump the queue and upgrade yourself:      https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/instantanswers/d4efb316-79f0-1aa1-9ef3-dcada78f3fa0/get-the-windows-10-creators-update There are still HEAPS of problems. I tried few weeks back for my test machines and all failed at around 70% to 77%.           http://www.windowscentral.com/windows-10-creators-update-common-problems-and-fixes I would not bother now, will wait for few more months. Regards.

Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron One 2330 and I've just installed Windows 10, version 1703 'Creator'. Since installing Fan #2 has been revving between 3500-5500 rpm every few seconds producing a very annoying sound. I've checked the running processes, nothing appears to be high.
Has anyone else experienced problems with the fan? I saw some old posts on a Microsoft board that suggested there were some fan related issues when Win 10 was first introduce, but I don't think this the same.
Any help appreciated
Kind regards
David

Answer:Windows 10, version 1703 and erratic fan behviour

What version of BIOS? A14 is the latest. Note that you may need at least A09 before going to any later version.
Which fan are you calling "Fan #2" ?
Have you updated to all the latest Win 10 drivers from Dell's Support page?
www.dell.com/.../advanced
Sometimes an outdated or corrupted video card driver can cause the CPU fan to misbehave.

I'm having problems upgrading my old laptop, which was happily running version 1607, to version 1703. Any ideas what I should try next? When I say "old" laptop... it came with XP, but has run Windows 8, 8.1, 10 Preview, and versions of Windows 10 up to 1607.

So far I've tried this:
Download the ISO from the Media Creation Toolkit (MCT), mount it within Windows and run Setup within 1607. This seemed to work but when I got it started, it wouldn't connect to the network, either via WiFi or ethernet cable. But no yellow triangles in Device Manager (and all the drivers were working in 1607, as far as I know). I reverted back to 1607, which seemed to complete successfully.Download a fresh installer from the MCT again, this time using the MCT to create a USB, booting from that, deleting the old C: and reserved partitions within Setup, and clean installing. This ends up with circling dots, after the Getting Started message, but it doesn't get to OOBE; the dots keep circling.Take the above installer, extract the WIM file from the ESD with DISM, add some of the trickier drivers (previously saved with DISM) and then put it back to an ESD and run the USB installer again. Same result as (2) (which was better than I expected to be honest, given I'm not sure this is a recommended route- don't try this one at home, kids)
In both (2) and (3), if I press Shift-F10 and try a few commands, I can see there is some sort of running operating system, with System taking most of the ... Read more

I was running Windows 10 Version 1511 on two of my PC?s without any problems. However, when I upgraded both PC?s to the Windows 10 Creators Update Version 1703, I found I could no longer connect to the internet.

On the one PC, the following error message appears repeatedly: ?The modem (or other connecting device) is already in use or is not configured properly?.

And on the other PC, this message also appears repeatedly : ?After 1 minute automate to connect to the internet?.

What could be the problem? Has anyone on this Forum a solution? Online there are hundreds of posts with the same problem and I have tried everything suggested on the various forums but in vain.

Although the long-awaited Windows 10 "Creators Update" upgrade isn't scheduled to be released until April 11th, its ISO files are on the Microsoft servers and can be obtained through alternate methods.

After I downloaded and saved the appropriate ISO file and created a bootable DVD earlier today, I did a clean install in one of my computers.

The install process went fine, and it finished quicker and easier than previous versions.

Windows Defender is now Windows Defender Antivirus, and is a full security suite.

The upgrade is Version 1703 (OS Build 15063.0).

As with previous Windows 10 versions, it came with 30+ apps that I have no use for and uninstalled.

It's too early yet for me to say if this is a more improved and more stable upgrade.

Hi, I have an Acer aspire m3970 and am just wondering if anyone knows if it is compatible with Windows 10 version 1703. It's in my Windows update but it freezes in the middle of the install. Another reboot brings back the original Windows 10. Every time I restart the computer it tries to install and fails (losing me hours of time when I wanted to be working). Is there any way to opt out of installing it? I'd rather not install the upgrade because I'm fine with Windows how it is and would rather not have to take all that time again to set up programs and other settings. If not I guess I will uninstall the reinstall the original Windows 10.

Lenovo COmmunity Several days ago my Lenovo T460 upgrades to Windows 10 Creators Edition (Version 1703) and my bluetooth stopped workign (well it was intermittent).  So I'd reinstall Windows 10, go our to the Lenovo software and drivers site to downlod the proper drivers and my bluetooth still failed.  The current driver listed is Intel 8260 Wireless Software for Bluetooth Technology for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad X260, T460, version 19.30.1648.920, dated 2017/04/26.  So out of frustration I went out tothe intel site and install Intel® Wireless Bluetooth® for Windows® 10,  version 19.71.0., dated 7/18/2017.  and my system works. Question is Lenovo drivers not up to Creators or have I installed the wrong driver. It works but Lenovo typically want one to use the drivers listed, but in this case what listed doen;t work with Windows 10, creators edition.  There are also three other (older) 19.60.0, 19.50.1 and 19.40.1702, so I don't knwo which driver I should have installed.

Hi i1yas. Welcome to the TenForums @i1yas

First off I would recommend you run the Update Trouble Shooter.

Windows key + S, search bar appears, type troubleshooting into search bar, troubleshooting appears at top. Click it, window opens, lower right side "Fix problems with Windows Update", click. Window opens, click on “advance”, click on Run as administrator, click “Next”. Should run clean. If not run again.

Next I would navigate to the Media Creator Tool and follow the directions to create a USB key, I think you will need and 8GB key, it very well will work with a 4GB key but they seem to be adding more versions.

Backup your personal data off machine.

Insert key, navigate to key and run setup. This will do an in-place upgrade. It should not impact your data. You still want to have a back up because as we all know, things happen.

Since MS upgraded me to this version I have had numerous problems. I even rest back to ver. 1607 but didn't help. Now my email reader SeaMonkey 2.48 takes forever to download emails and even longer to read them. It normally goes back to normal speed when all emails have downloaded. Another words it is not on line. It works fine in Windows Safe Mode. It does not make a difference if I use Safe Mode in SeaMonkey. I tried Thunderbird and got the same results. Anyone know what changed in Windows to cause this problem?

In addition every now and then after booting up the mouse pointer, screen and keystrokes all freeze. Requires a reboot. Sometimes after booting I get the blue screen saying sending information to MS and 100 % safe to reboot. Other times after booting the screen goes white with black jumbled text across it, frozen. When will MS stop toying with their software and create something that works without problems?

I have a Gateway laptop M series that I upgraded to Win7 a few years back (o.g. Vista) has run beautifully ever sense. Recently installed Win8 fresh. Error code OxcOOOOOe9 became the issue. Start up repair was performed several times with no resolve. Used cmd to perform MBR fixes including fix mbr, bootrec.exc, and other fixes found on this site. Nothing seems to resolve the issue. I gave up and was about to call it quits, under the assumption the hdd was gone. One day I decided to throw a fresh copy of Ubuntu on it for laughs ( I am currently getting my certs in networking and linux+) it works flawlessly. Strange to me although I understand there is a difference with grub and mbr. If there are any suggestions, I would be most thankful.

I should add that I am now just trying to reinstall 7. I have played with 8 on a different PC and would rather stick with the former.

Do you mean autoaarange on just desktop? Or autoaarange in folders? Latter is only available by third party solutions, like Winaero tweaker.
I don't use it, so somebody else should give you more relevant info...

After this update I have a Windows-Old folder, 17.6 gig. Can this folder be deleted? Happy with update and will not go back to 1511.

Answer:Windows 10, version 1607

Its normal behaviour for the installer to leave this folder behind. It allows you to roll back if something went wrong. If you're sure everythings behaving normally then yes you can remove the folder. Use built in disk cleaner, click on c: then click the clean up system files button. Make sure old system install is ticked.

I did not know the "Anniversary Update" would install, like, Windows 11. (may well have been)
I first had issues with the update error 'Can't yada, yada due to USB device.
I found a reg fix for that. Loaded the update and it took like forever.
OK, finally finished and last reboot. Up pops Windows 10 version 1607 which just almost destroyed many
of my settings and enhancements I had made to my preferences. Well this sucks.
I played with it for a while and then, totally disgusted, restored an image prior this update.
I installed show/hide updates. I also reinitialized the reg change I made making sure MS won't just sneak it in.
Good luck with that. I'm just venting. I'll be normal again tomorrow.

Answer:Windows 10 update to version 1607

Yep the way W10 updates is pretty frustrating, the best you can do is Defer feature updates, and it will take longer to update.

But the Anniversary is pretty good compared to the Creators update, IMO.

I would not go making a bunch of changes and customizations to W10, because you know it`s gonna update to a new version sooner or later.

I've been getting a black screen with the moving dot circle every time I start my HP desktop, which moves on to "Restoring to your previous version of Windows (v7). Yesterday, Microsoft Support helped download Windows 10 version 1607 upgrade (from 1511).  Download failed. Now, MS tells me that the HP desktop I have doesn't have the necessary components (drivers?) to install v1607. MS wants me to clean my computer of everything (inlcuding programs) to install v1607. I do have all backed up on external hard drive, but cannot imagine how much time and effort this would take. Note that the MS upgrade is automatic and cannot be cancelled, so it will keep trying to do this download. Is HP going to test my  Pavillion p7-1206 so that it may be used with Windows 10 v 1607?  If not, is there a solution to running the Windows 10 version 1511 succesfully without getting the black screen and "restoring" message? Answer:Windows 10 version 1607 Updgrade

@LizL778 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! Your PC came with Win7 and unfortunately, HP does not supply Win10 drivers for it.  Win7 PCs had a generally hard time with the initial Win10 Upgrade, and it looks like each new version, causes more and more of them to fail subsequent version upgrades.  The next Upgrade -- to version 1703 -- is coming out in early April, so if your PC will not Upgrade to 1607, that does not look good for 1703. What MS is saying is only partly true.  While it's true that you don't have Win10 HP drivers, there is really no reason why this should prevent either downloading the Upgrade or running it. So, what are you running now -- Win10 version 1511, or Win7? Also, HOW did you do the Win10 Upgrade download? We can proceed when you provide the information. Thanks

Have Lenovo v570 and 2 nights ago MS pushed update version 1607 for windows 10. PC had basically a black screen with blue Windows logo in center of screen with a small spinning wheel like in lower center. I let the go for several hours and then pushed to old power button. PC restarted and went back to same position. Waited several hours and nothing changed. Rebooted and held Windows key down and was presented with options to continue with Windows 10 or advanced options. Did continue and same result. Next time did advanced options and tried to go back to previous update and it failed saying select Reset PC option under advance options. I did not do this as I am hesitant as I understand it the Reset will remove all my applications but leave my data. I am not sure what that means, Office, TurboTax, etc, etc???
Did some research on line ... and saw something that said after restarting the third time Windows will automatically restore back to prior version. Well that did not happen.
Just wondering if anyone has thought on this and what action should I take. I do have a system restart set but forget when I last did that -- think right after I went to 10 earlier this year. That could be option but not sure what is total ramification if I chose that option.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, I recently update my ThinkPad W550s from Win10 Version 1607 to Win10 Version 1703 build 15063.540 (Windows 10 Creators Update).Fingerprint is not working after upgraded. I just get "Your credentials could not be verified". I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver (and I'm on the latest version), removing and re-registering my fingerprint... Has anyone had this problem and managed to fix it? Can you help me?

I have a Lenovo T460 (Windows 10, version1703, x64) which was updated to Windows 10 Creators version two weeks ago.  Since that time I have had Bluetooth and wifi issues.  While I think I have fixed the Bluetooth issues the wifi remains quite slow (computer to computer transfer).  My file transfer rates between computers , and my NAS (LaCie 2Big NAS) was ~ 8-9 MBps (64 - 72 Mbps), not super great but fine for backing up 2- 5 GBs of files every other day.  Now I'm lucky to have 1.2 MBps.  I have a Lenovo T430 (Windows 10 ver 1673) and a Lenovo T520 (Windows 7) which still transfer files ~ 8-9 MBps. I've run Windows troubleshooter, believe I have the correct (new) drivers for Intel (R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260. Although Intel has an updated driver (ver 19.71.0) while Lenovo still is recommending ver 19.70.0.100.  I typically stick with Lenovo's (posted) drivers  rather than going to Intel directly.  Is this a known issue with Windows Creators.  Might it be another problem.  I'm at a lose?? JR

Is anyone else having issues with 1607? Mine is that I lose data within folders on a drive. When I reboot, the drive disappears. I have switched cables and Sata slots and it is still the same. I am running a WD Red NAS 6 TB drive. I have installed it into another Windows 10 PC and there does not seem to be any issues.

I downloaded 1607 ISO from Microsoft and created the bootable USB with Rufus.

I know there has been issues with 1607 and Microsoft are aware of it and have given a KB update which I have but it has made no difference.

Also, how can I download a 1511 ISO please?

I had that also with this update.
So here is what I did to get over it.
I restarted it then ran the Disc Clean Up app
Which cleared all traces from the Disc
Then let it download and install, which took some time
Then it installed to 30% then Restarted then finished at 100%
Which again sat there for some time then flashed up it had finished and now running all ok on all my systems

Windows 10 Version 1607 driver signing changes - gHacks Tech News

Microsoft announced recently that the upcoming version 1607 of Windows 10, known as the Anniversary Update, will only load kernel mode drivers that are digitally signed by Microsoft.

The change won't affect all systems however the company notes, as only new installations are affected in the beginning.

Starting with new installations of Windows 10, version 1607, the previously defined driver signing rules will be enforced by the Operating System, and Windows 10, version 1607 will not load any new kernel mode drivers which are not signed by the Dev Portal.

The list of exceptions to the new policy is long. Below is the most important information in regards to the new kernel mode drivers policy:
PCs upgraded to Windows 10 Build 1607 from a previous version of Windows (for instance Windows 10 version 1511) are not affected by the change.
PCs without Secure Boot functionality, or Secure Boot off, are not affected either.
All drivers signed with cross-signing certificates that were issued prior to July 29, 2015 will continue to work.
Boot drivers won't be blocked to prevent systems from failing to boot. They will be removed by the Program Compatibility Assistant however.
The change affects only Windows 10 Version 1607. All previous versions of Windows are not affected.
Microsoft notes that the change is done to make Windows more secure for end-users.

We?re making these changes to help make Windows m... Read more

Hello All, here is a good one:  (Maby a MOD will give this to development to take a look at this, unless someone hasseen this before????....) I have Several Thinkpad Yogas (20CDCTO1WW), After installing Win10 1607 & Microsoft Office (tried 2010 - 2016)All experience the same problem. If you open MS Word (Or Excel) Click insert, then select object, select object type - Microsoft Equation 3.0 & selectok, you cannot select any symbols.  When Clicking any button, it is like the calibration is way off.If you click the title bar to move the equation symbols, the bar moves down and to the left. I have confirmed this is something to do with the Windows 10 1607 & the Yoga.  The previous version of Win 10 itworked properly.  I also tried this on various models of Desktops  & Win 10 1607 and it works properly. I have tried different drivers, versions of Word, BIOS,  external mouse, but it makes no difference,  It has something to do with Win 10 1607 (Build 14393.222) & Yoga or so it seems. Maybe some type of driver issue?, if anyone has any clues I would appreciate it.           Thanks in advance!

Previously, my laptop (ThinkPad X140e) got Win 10 Pro (Ver 1511), upgrading from OEM Win 8 Pro. All was well then. I installed a flavor of Linux after that to see how it goes, and I didn't like it after all. I created a new Win10 Installation media, using Windows Media Creation Tool and a USB memory stick. Little did I know about the new change applied from ver.1607 (Windows 10 editions for education customers), the new installation of Win 10 activated as Windows 10 Pro Education. I suppose my ThinkPad X140e was given Education OEM license for some reason, even though it was bought independently. Win 10 Pro Education seems mostly identical to vanilla Win 10 Pro that I know of. However, I see some '* Some settings are managed by your organization' messages in some of the Settings menus, and I really don't like it. Is there any way for me to get Windows 10 Pro, instead of Windows 10 Pro Education? This Link (Upgrade Windows 10 Pro to Pro Education from Windows Store for Business) has a section about reverting process; I don't think it applies to my case.Any advice?

I own a Z1 Working station G1  WM429EA  SN: [Personal Information Removed]   and following the pressure of Microsoft I installed Windows 10. This was a bad thing to do and after many efforts I managed to get a running machine. Then Microsoft came with the major update 1607 and my machine was not willing to take it. After long efforts with Microsoft support they managed to ruin my running version 1511 and now they say that I need a clean installation of Windows 10. I have checked all info's available and it seems that G1 is not the best machine for Windows 10. Can you help me ?

Answer:hp z1 workstation problem with windows 10 PRO version 1607

I know you don't want to lose your important data. I highly recommend putting the hard disk in an enclosure and connecting it to another PC and copying all important data to an external storage device. Since you had Windows 10 installed that means you Windows 10 license activation key is safely stored online at the Microsoft licensing servers. You will need to download the Windows 10 Media creator and use it with a USB flash drive (4 GB minimum storage capacity) to create installation media. Use the following URL to get the Windows ISO installation media creator.https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 Once you have done that, boot to it and install Windows 10. It will be activated once you go online. All required drivers for Windows 10 are at the following HP support web page.http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=5230511&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4192 Install the chipset and IMEI drivers first, then install the graphics driver software.

I have had already working Windows 10 in my laptop, but after upgrading to latest version the USB mouse stopped working. The touchpad works. USB is alive because pendrives and USB external disks work fine, the mouse (tried three different) does not (in none of the ports)
I reinstalled the mouclass.sys and mouhid.sys drivers. Are these correct? There are drivers for PS2 mouse too, but I think they are for touchpad in my case. Anyway, no success.
Rebooted many times.
How ever The Mouse Device status claims: "This device is working properly", which is false!
My desktop has the same version of Windows 10 and no problems at all.
Any solution to this? Thanks in advance!

My computer keeps telling me I have an update which requires a restart. It is listed as ? Feature update to Windows 10, version 1607. (Is this what they are calling the "anniversary update"?) I don't know which build/version I currently have. The problem is, I have tried to let it update quite a few times, but it fails due to one or more components not able to be configured. This has been going on for many months now. Currently I have the "delay updates" checked so I do not have to let it try again. I keep hoping Microsoft would eventually have a fix for this, but so far I don't see one.

Any idea what I can to get the feature update to install?

Answer:• Feature update to Windows 10, version 1607. Problems

to find out the version that you currently have:

-right click on the start button
-go to "Run"
-type "winver" (no quotemarks) and hit [enter]
If I could provide any advice before installing a feature update;
it would be to update your drivers (special attention on Graphics and Chipset drivers)

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3194496)

Three days ago my desktop tried to update 1607 3 times. Each time on reboot it says failed to update and reverts. Each day it tries again at shutdown.

Yesterday my second(son's) computer updated and all I could see was a black screen with a circle. Had to do a repair and it reverted back 2 two updates. Note, this computer does not have integrated graphics - so that fix process would not work.

Now the wife's computer wants to update but I am not restarting it - if hers goes down it will be hell in my household.

I looked on the web and don't see much about this update getting fixed by Microsoft. Any ideas what I should do? My main computer is asking to try again and it will just fail or worse - black screen. I told the family not to shutdown the wife's but I know at some point it will try to do the update on its own.

This is the worst mess we have ever had, but all I see are web pages about the anniversary update - not this one.

Hey, ???

I'm just getting a Windows update now (ca. 10:13 AM Brisbane Australia) - my laptop screen suddenly went black and when things reappeared, previously-open windows were misaligned and differently sized.

The Windows Settings box which had been showing downloads (I had hit "search for updates") was blank. I rebooted it and it shows "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1607" downloading. I'd researched 1607 and had understood it amounted only to a download in megabytes if you already had 1511 (which I do).

I'm on metred connection - is this going to happen all the time??

Don't know you're whole situation, but that wording and the size of ~3GB sounds an awful lot like the Anniversary Update download.

Hello Everyone-

The place that I work with is tasked with creating a customized tablet to have in our showrooms. We were planning to use the Surface Pro 4 with Windows 10 version 1607. We were successful locking down with what we wanted on the machine through Group Policy on a Windows 10 1511 test machine. We exported the 1511's .xml and tried to import onto a test machine with the 1607 build and just did not work.

The desktop/display screen was missing two customized videos we created as Internet Shortcuts, but more importantly after the export the 1607 was not locked down as much at the 1511 test machine. What I mean is in 1511 a customer would not have been able to access via a right click on the start menu the Control panel, Command Box, etc. Plus in the 1607 they were able to run searches by clicking on the magnifying glass in the task bar to pretty much access anything on the device.

Our goal for the 1607 device is for it to have Automatic Sign on through Group Policy with the each machine in one OU in AD and having one user name for that OU as well. So after the Automatic Sign on the employee could show a costumer tiles that have been customized with out Content but a child or anyone else could not access games, internet, or delete our tiles.

We just don't understand why it worked on the test machine with Windows 10 1511 but back fired on the 1607 test machine. We have tried to Use AppLocker but that has caused some wrenches on our test machines as well ... Read more

This is a brand new machine -- had it maybe 2 weeks.  Bought this configuration for games such as Rome Total War, Skyrim, etc. After the Microsoft -- Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3199986) on 11/08, the R7M440Graphics with 4 GB has stopped being recognized. The system now only uses the integrated R5 graphics which has limited memory.  Some games warned me and allow me to use main memory, others just lock up. The Radeon software shows it "Linked" to the R5 but it is not being used.Is there anyway to make the R7M440 the primary graphics?

Normally, you check the Microsoft Update Catalog to grab stuff. But this is a cumulative update that's been superseded by a later update. Looks like MS is removing older cumulative updates when they post newer ones.

Hello...I'm currently running  Windows 10 ver. 1511 in an HP Pavilion e9110t with eight gigs of ram, Intel Core 2 Quad 9550 and Nvidia GTX 750Ti video card. Everything runs good and stable and does pretty much what I ask it to do. My problem is that Windows 1607 won't install until I finally reset the computer and the update went without a hitch. After the update I was unable to use my mouse and other USB perifrials. I checked device manager and saw that the USB Host Controller and USB Hub were not installed and flagged. I searched for days trying to find the proper chipset for my product and found that Intel no longer supports the G43 express chipset and nor does Windows v,1607. So I'm stuck with windows in a loop trying to install and failing to do so. Unfortunately it appears that I will have to stick with v.1511 unless a fix is available. Your thoughts?
