ThinkPad P50: Synaptics Driver Update Breaks TrackPoint Scrolling

Question: ThinkPad P50: Synaptics Driver Update Breaks TrackPoint Scrolling

Last night (4/6/2017) an automatic Windows update just now decided to install the most recent Synaptics driver (titled Synaptics - Mouse - 1/11/2017 12:00:00 AM - 19.3.4.66), which apparently is nearly 3 months old at this point. One thing this update seems to have fixed is an issue I?ve been having with my ThinkPads for upwards of 7 years ? randomly it resets my mouse wheel 'number of lines scrolled per notch' option back to 1 (I prefer 3) pretty much daily, which is a HUGE annoyance, so I?m very grateful for this update and I?d like to keep it. However, it also completely disabled middle click scrolling with my TrackPoint (yes, I have ?Use for scrolling? checked under the TrackPoint settings). The middle button does nothing now, unless I check ?Use as middle click?. Rolling back the Synaptics driver to the previous one fixes this issue. Confoundingly, the TrackPoint scrolling with my ThinkPad Bluetooth keyboard still works fine. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any ideas how to re-enable TrackPoint scrolling on this newest driver? System details:ThinkPad P50 ? Xeon E3-1505M v5 (1080p touchscreen, if that matters), 16 GB ECC RAMWindows 10 64-bit, all available updates appliedAll available Lenovo updates applied (except for that Connect2 nonsense) Sidebar: running the tweak, TPMiddle, enables a middle click function when the scrolling option is selected in TrackPoint settings, but has no effect on the scrolling issue (it persists with or without TPMiddle running). The takeaway is that the middle button is indeed registering.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Forgive me for cross-posting, but quite a while ago I asked this on the ThinkVantage Technologies board here and have only gotten "Me Too" adds to the thread. I'm hoping ths board and its moderators may be more responsive. I have the latest Synaptics driver V.16.2.5.0 dated 7/5/2012, installed via System Update on a T520 running Win 7 Pro 64 bit. I prefer to disable the TouchPad and only use the TrackPoint. No matter where I disble the TouchPad, either in the context menu of the notification icon or in the Control Panel Applet, the TouchPad  is always re-enabled on a clean start or re-start. I have manually uninstalled the driver and re-installed the driver to no avail. Since others are having this problem, I was wondering if a fix is in the works.

Answer:Synaptics TrackPoint Driver Does not remember settings.

Yeah I'm having that too with the same driver but on T420s with Win7 64bit Pro also.Fully update etc.

Okay so i've been struggling to find a fix to this and Lenovo support hasn't really been too useful either. Basically the trackpoint is having issues working even with the newest bios, etc. and synaptics driver. It also is having problems with the old driver too?? Could it be in conflict with the new bios update? Lenovo Support gave me the advice to reformatte as it is a "software" issue and to repeat the same above process. Yet the problem still persists.  What steps should I try next?  Lenovo support seems reluctant to give me a hardware exchange Thanks in advance, any advice is open to testing! I'm just fed up with new drivers having bugs like this.

Pardon me if this is too much of a software question, but yeah, I'm trying out Firefox 6, and while the browser seems less crashy, I can no longer side scroll by holding the middle mouse button and using the Trackpoint. It's a big deal for me. Scrolling with the Trackpoint is basically my favorite feature; to me, it feels even more convenient than a touch screen. Any one else notice this issue, or know how to solve it?

Answer:Side scrolling via Trackpoint broken in Firefox 6 [Thinkpad X220]

It works for me (Firefox 6.0.2). Try updating your UltraNav driver from the Lenovo support page. The latest is fairly new, dated August 23.

At certain relatively slow speeds the scrolling jumps huge leaps regularly (probably after evey page or so). It's very bad with Chrome and Windows explorer, not so bad but noticeable in Thunderbird. I have set the scrolling to 1 line. My Synaptics drivers are the newest 10/04/2015. Also the treshold to start scrolling with middle button and trackpoint is very high - can't be that hard to make it smooth, so you could scroll very slowly? Please fix this soon... it's impossible to live with.

Today I used ThinkVantage Update to download system updates from Lenovo.Optional updates included "Synaptics UltraNav Driver for WinXP and Win7- WW-" version 15.2.14.0which was downloaded and installed. Now the trackpoint icon in the notification area is gone.Clicking on the Mouse section in the Control Panel brings up an error window:"Synaptics Pointing DeviceUnable to connect to Synaptics Pointing Device Driver. If you have installed another PS/2 Pointing Device Driver pleaseuninstall the Synaptics driver by clicking on the Yes button. You thenneed to reinstall your pointing device driver for your external device again.Do you want to uninstall the Synaptics driver now?Yes / No"Clicking on No takes me to the usual looking Mouse Properties window, with 5 tabs including "Pointer Options".Clicking on that produces the normal Motion, Snap-to and Visibility subwindows. But the Trackpoint tab is now gone. The trackpoint still works fine and the trackpad is now on and also works.(Before all this happened, I had the trackpad turned off.)Why has this happened? How can I get the trackpoint icon back in the Notification Area? How can I get control back over the trackpoint motion, whether or not the trackpad is operational, middle button scrolling etc?Anyone got any ideas?

Answer:X201s - New Synaptics UltraNav Driver has removed TrackPoint icon from Notification Area.

I think the driver failed to install properly. Uninstall and reinstall the package.

I am running Windows 10 on an Acer and recently downloaded and installed the update for the Synaptic touchpad (January 17, 2017).  After rebooting my laptop, I can use the touch pad to move the cursor when logging in, but once the system as loaded,
I cannot move the cursor using the touch pad.  I can left-click and right-click, and shrink and expand on the touch pad, but have no control over the cursor.  I currently have a mouse attached to the computer in order to move the cursor.
When I click on the link for more information about the update, there currently is no information.  Quite frustrating.
Please advise as how to resolve this issue.
Thank you.

I'm having a really annoying scrolling issue with the touchpad on my Lenovo X250 (Windows 10). The sensitivity of scrolling is dramatically decreased following the use of trackpoint scrolling. Example, say I have a program like Chrome open to a web page. Using two finger scrolling on the touchpad it takes maybe 2.5-3 swipes to get to the bottom of the page. I then hold down the middle button above the touchpad and use the trackpoint to scroll. Now that that is over I go back and try the touchpad again. This time it takes me 10-12 swipes to get to the bottom of the page. Scroll rate is already turned up to max in the synaptics settings, nothing has changed. Scrolling behavior will now remain this way until I restart the computer. Can someone please provide a solution?

Answer:X250 scrolling sensitivity issues with synaptics touchpad driver

Additionally it seems that the trackpad will randomly become unresponsive at time as if it "sticks". I remaped caps lock to CTRL and I cannot use the trackpad while holding it down, the mouse freezes. All around not a great experience with this driver.

Hi!Since I updated last week my Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav, my trackpad sometimes hangup. The driver installed was: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t44... I have the PC for more than 1 year and never notice this behavior. It works OK for sometime but other times the trackpad doesn't work at all and the only that is working is the red button.I notived this behavior in 3 differnt systems in my company recently uptaded to this driver: - T440s with Win7_x64              (20ARA.....)- T440s with Win8.1_x64           (20ARA.....)- X1 Carbon with Win8.1_x64   (344.....) Can you pls investigate and release a new version asap.  BR,Tomaz.

Answer:Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver

Yep, there is definitely a bug with the 18.0.7.103 version of the driver on a T440s. I had to rollback to 18.0.7.57 in order to fix it.The issue (hang up) happens when my laptop wakes up from sleep. I have to restart in order to bring back the trackpad. It's a shame that more than 3 months later this driver is still being offered to T440s users via System Update app and has not being fixed.

The update is "thinkpad video features [...Quadro 1000M/2000M Optimus] for Windows 7 64" version 8.17.12.7593/8.15.10.2538. It failed (gave an error message during install allong the lines of "update failed"). After this, I could not play any Direct-X games.  It also killed my color-munki profiler, so the colours are now completely off. I resinstalled the color-munki, reprofiled and im more or less back to where I started, but without the update. Does anyone know one rolls back, or re-applies an upate?  The failed update is no-longer appearing in the new upate list. I was hoping the update would fix some of the external monitor problems, where it randomly will not expand to a second monitor, or the internal monitors reoslution gets stuck at some low res for no apparent reason, wakeup "loses" the monitor and switches back to internal only etc.

Answer:"thinkpad video features" update fails and breaks machine. Anyone else got this?

The update supposedly covers some of the above issues. You can try downloading it from support.lenovo.com and installing it manually. I haven't bothered to install it yet.

I own a Lenovo Thinkpad X220, and recently I had this problem when I acess 'Mouse' in Control Panel, and it comes up with an error saying 'Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver' I press OK, then it goes to the Mouse Properties. Another thing about this error is that when I change settings in the Ultranav tab, I press Apply and OK, but it does not save my edited settings. I have reinstalled the Ultranav Driver a lot of times, and it still comes up with this errorI made sure that I have installed the latest Ultranav Driver, which was released on the 20th June 2013, and also the Ultranav Utility.  Any ideas?

Answer:Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver Thinkpad X220

Hi, poonl1

I would recommend trying to use the standard Synaptics driver found here. Synaptics is the company that develops the UltraNav software, so there should be no loss of compatibility/features. I have witnessed several cases where this driver has helped others with mouse issues, so it may help yours as well.

The first thing you will need to do is to remove the UltraNav driver from the system. To do this, open the Start menu and type Device Manager into the Search box, and then press Enter. Once here, double click on Mouse and other pointing devices, and then right-click on the UltraNav device. Navigate to the Driver tab and select Uninstall... from the bottom of the window. Follow the prompts to uninstall and then restart when prompted by Windows. Windows should install a generic driver that will allow you to use the TouchPad when downloading the Synaptics driver.

Regards,
Adam

Hi there, ThinkPad X240, Windows 8.1 x64 with all the latest Windows Updates and all the updates from Lenovo System Update. I am receiving the following error: "Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver" when I go into Mouse applet in Control Panel or when I am using Lenovo Settings Metro app. Here is the screenshot of the error: The weird thing about it is that I can click OK and settings for TouchPad and TrackPad are there: However, this error keeps popping up in various places when using Lenovo Settings app, and it is very annoying and makes it very difficult to use. E.g., it pops up 5 times when trying to access Power Management in Lenovo Settings. What I already did: 1. Uninstalled Synaptics drivers from Programs2. Rebooted the machine3. Installed the latest version of UltraNav driver using Lenovo System Update app - it is 18.0.7.57 Any help would be appreciated.

Hello I ve installed the synaptics driver 16.2.5 i suppose in my thinkpad t420. But everytime after setting the momentum feature "ON" under the ultranav touchpad settings, it automatically disables it after a restart or fresh boot. Momentum works perfectly fine once I enable it but after I restart right away or a fresh boot later, the feature doesnt work. When i look at the ultranav settings, it was disabled.  I ve tried uninstalling the driver and redoing it multiple times but no fix yet. Also I thought, this rapidboot shield must have de;aying it, but i tried uninstalling the rapidboot and did fresh ultranav driver installation still no luck. As of this moment, the momentum feature isnt working after a restart.  MOMENTUM FEATURE  is good and I rally need it. Any fixes or suggestions?!?!?!  ThanksVishak

Hi - I buy Lenovos because of their trackpoint.  My most recent Lenovo is an X1 Carbon.  I was much surprised to note that the X1 appears to be the first ThinkPad that will no longer allow me to turn off the touchpad from the Mouse Settings.  Never mind - I disabled it for good in the BIOS.  (I would like to have the Mouse Settings back because I occasionally allow touchpad users on my laptop and they simply cannot cope.) Anyway, from day #1 of ownership of this laptop, I noticed some very odd behaviour of the trackpoint:  It simply "wanders off".  It likes the left margin a lot, and the top left corner still more.  It is possible to force the cursor out of this position (by pushing hard against the trackpoint) but as soon as I let go of the trackpoint again, it wanders back. Thing is, the problem will go away after a while.  "a while" may be anything between 10 and 60 secs.  I thought it might be a h/w bug - the trackpoint perhaps being "stuck" and needing to relax - but it occurs so often that I am more inclined to thing it is a driver bug. I believe to be on the latest driver 19.3.4.99 so consider this post as a heads-up - something is still not quite right here. PS:  I am not a geat fan of reboots.  So I have disabled Updates on my Win10Pro.  I was most recently forced into a reboot (first time in 3 months or so) because whenever I clicked the middle mouse button, my screen would turn off.&nbs... So  the issue is the Synaptics Control Panel is displayed in a way that is too big vertically to see the entire window as per: The keyboard click-for-click instructions on reproducing this:1.  Start up from a Lenovo factory install of Windows 8.1 Professional x64 with all drivers updated to latest as provided by Lenovo, and Windows upgraded with latest updates (no drivers installed through Windows Updates).2.  Control Panel > Display and notice the defaults as per below:3.  Control Panel > Mouse > tab ThinkPad > button Advanced and notice the new window Synaptics Control Panel is proportional vertically as per below:4.  Control Panel > Display > click checkbox Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays > radio button Medium - 125% > click button Apply.5.  Sign out and sign in to Windows.6.  Control Panel > Mouse > tab ThinkPad > button Advanced and notice the new window Synaptics Control Panel is too big vertically to see the bottom of the window. What is noticed is when one changes the registry entry:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPCpl\Controls\ClientHeightPxfrom 640 to 550, the Synaptics Control Panel looks acceptable vertically, and persists through reboots. However, this is correlated to an issue where any configurations made are all reverted automatically, after about ten seconds from clicking OK in the Synaptics Control Panel. Hence, this is not a WORKAROUND/solution. March ... Read more

I found a software bug for synaptics driver.  I am using the latest: 18.0.7.40, 5/26/2014, windows 8.1. The bug is related to unreliable middle clicking (not to be confused with TpScroll ), when the user middle clicks on the trackpoint, the OS doesn't register it.  It is possible this is a settings issue, maybe it's a "feature".  If so, can someone provide instructions on how to change it. It seems the synaptics firmware will only pass a middle click to OS if the pointer moves at the same time.  I have not tried this on Linux. To reproduce errant behavior I (this will NOT register a middle click)1. make sure middle clicks are enabled in the mouse properties and TpScroll is off2. make sure you have an application that works with middle click or displays L/M/R click state received by the OS (I am using X-Mouse button control)3. with finger clear of trackpoint, middle click with thumb4. Anyone having same problem following this update?
I have been using hp officejet pro 8610 for many months without a hitch. I noticed the printer driver was no longer working once Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems KB4022725 had installed. The Printer Driver Version is 32.3 direct from HP.
Although the printer was still visible in devices and printers, I was unable to print via network. I manually uninstalled the update and recovered the printer functionality. Problem is auto update in windows 10 keeps nagging to reinstall the update and the problem is reproducible. Any help would be appreciated!

Hello, I updated my OS to Windows 10. Everything works perfectly except of trackpoint/touchpad. The first issue is really a critical one - trackpoint buttons are practically useless. Single button click causes the mouse click event multiple times - for example opens 6 new cards in a web browser instead of one. I've found another post here describing in detail exactly the same problem but the author didn't get any response, neither from HP nor the community: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Elitebook-8570w-built-in-mou... The driver delivered with Windows (which is also listed as compatible with Windows 10 on HP's 8570w support site http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5257503&swItemId=ob_152050_1&swEnvOid=419... version 19.0.12.0, causes the problems I mentioned earlier. The updated one from Synaptics website (19.0.19.1) additionaly prevents the OS from detecting the middle button... Additionally, the only gestures I can use are the basic ones - no advanced 3- or 4-finger ones (please don't tell me that the hardware is incompatible because similar gestures worked on Windows 8.1 I used earlier). I have a dual boot with Win10 and Linux and on Linux everything works flawlessly, so it's definitely not a hardware problem What should I do to make my touchpad and trackpoint fully functional?

Hi!

This may be basic (I hope it is), but I can't seem to find the answer on my own.

I used to be able to scroll large images; but recently they started to break up as I scroll.
The images breaks into lines that are like repetitions of part of the image.

I've tried reinstalling the video card driver and renewed the monitor driver....no change.

The images open as a web-page (Why?) but they used to scroll without any problem.

I am running Win98SE and IE6

Can anyone offer suggestions?

Many Thanks

For some reason, touchpad edge scrolling, two-finger scrolling, and trackpoint+middle-button scrolling all fail to run in Microsoft Word 2013 (Office 365 University). They also fail to run in the Metro Mail App; and they mess with the zoom in Google Chrome. However, all three kinds of scrolling work fine in all other programs I've used, including other Office 365 programs (Excel 2013 and OneNote 2013). I have the latest version of the driver installed (11.4.30.1). I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it several times, to no avail. I was strongly tempted to leave it uninstalled and use standard Windows middle-click for my scroll function instead, but that doesn't work in Windows Explorer (where the only scrollable area is also clickable).  Thoughts or suggestions?

Trackpoint + middle button scrolling works on all other apps except Google Chrome.    This stopped working recently and after some testing  I found that it is localized to just Chrome.  Works in Firefox, Outlook Mail 2010,  Powerpoint 2010,  etc.   I am using Windows 7 Pro on a X200S.      Is there a Chrome setting involved to correct this?

I have a T61 that is having a problem with the trackpoint scrolling feature occasionally.  What happens is when I push the middle button, and try to scroll, the window scrolls like its supposed to, but the pointer also moves.  Then when the pointer reaches the edge of the area I'm scrolling, the scrolling stops, and I have to move the pointer back in before I can scroll again.  I have the scrollign settings configured for standard (ie, not smooth or auto-detect).  I have also set the touchpad to be for scrolling and tap zones only (I don't know whether this has anything to do with the problem).  The latest driver (7.5.17.27) is installed.  Any ideas about what else I can try? Thanks,Justin

Answer:Trackpoint scrolling problem

I remember seeing this option in the mouse settings, advanced, where it had check box to use one or the other or both in re to touchpad or the red tip mouse.. I had no issue with it, I tried to recreate your issue but am not willing to screw this one up, sorry. Try that area and also see if the mouse driver is selecting the correct one, and if there is a post bios setting for the mouse functions. Now days with usb mouse, PS2, trackpoint, touchpad, infrared, wireless, we need things simple like a carnival ring toss on to coke bottles.

Answer:trackpoint scrolling on T21 not working

If you need to reinstall the Trackpoint driver for your unit, here is the link below: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4KMUYL Download and save this file to the desktop and the open the folder and run the setup.exe file You might also need the Trackpoint Accessibility Driver, which can be found here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4Z9QVD See if installing these two drivers will help you. If the drivers are installed correctly and you are still having problems with the trackpoint scrolling, it could possibly be a mechancial issue and the part would need replacement. Let me know if this helps you any. Mark

Hi!First: this is no problem-request but a solution for everybody with the same problem. I had the problem, that TrackPoint scrolling did not work in some programs. There are some posts available about correcting this issue, but there seems to be a change in the driver, so there needs to be done some changes. I mainly will refer to this post from Elad Karako, because it has a list of programs, where scrolling does not work. This post, the same as others, recommends to edit the file TP4table.dat in the C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP directory. I just updated my T540p with a 3-button touchpad and had the problem, that in some applications the TrackPoint scrolling does not work (Notepad++, Total Commander, ...)Unfortunately the rules did not work. But in newer drivers there is a further option available. The flags has been updated with the option16 Rule indicate the apply this to IBM Stick Scrolling when ScrollMethood is Synaptics. This means, that if the rule should apply to the scrolling done with TrackPoint, the flag needs to be increased by 16. I also had the problem, that the listed option WheelStd did not work in my case. After playing around I found out that Standard worked. So I updated the rules to the following and added them to the upper part of the file TP4table.dat: ; Process Explorer
*,*,*,*,*,PROCEXPL,Standard,0,25
; Notepad++ and Notepad2

Excellent detective work both here and with one line scrolling; the TP4table.dat compatibility listing doesn't seem to have been updated for a long time.

I have a t430 2342CTO with the latest ultranav drivers installed. I have seen screenshots of older versions of the driver where you can select smooth scrolling for the trackpoint. I was wondering if there is any way to enable this behavior in the current driver. Also, is there any way I can change the amount of lines scrolled by the trackpoint? Changing the windows setting only seems to affect the touchpad, not the trackpoint. Perhaps there is a registry setting or something?

Answer:Trackpoint smooth scrolling

Hi ben_jminw,

You should be able to change those settings under control panel > mousepad > unltranav.
How to use the TrackPoint center button - ThinkPad

Windows 8/7/XP/Vista 64/32-bit Edition v16.2.21
If you're using this driver then try using a previous version.

I am using MS Office 2007 on my Lenovo X60 with 2GB RAM and Win XP Proffesional.  I cannot scroll pages in MS Word 2007 using the standard scrolling type setting in the mouse properties dialog box in the control panel.  When I change the scrolling type setting to auto-select I am able to scroll but the scrolling is so fast that I cannot control it. Moreover, the scrolling does not work at all in either standard or auto-select mode in some of the MS Office dialog boxes.  I have upgraded to the latest trackpoint driver, but that does not seem to improve the situation.  Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Answer:Trackpoint scrolling speed on X60

I think that when you set the scrolling type in mouse properties to auto, you simply use the standard mouse-wheel click auto-scrolling feature of Office. Check if you can find any Office setting that allows you to adjust the auto-scrolling speed.

Hi,While docked yesterday, I downloaded the latest ThinkVantage Updates  using the System Update Utility for my T61 2009-AD1.  After applying the updates, the system rebooted and my TP stick was very SLOW as I keep it on the fastest settings to reduce hand stress.   When I went into the control panel --> mouse, it tells me: "Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver"   If you have installed another PS/2 Pointing Device Driver, please uninstall the Synaptics driver by clicking on the Yes button.  You then need to reinstall your pointing device driver for the external device again.  Do you want to uninstall the Synaptics Driver Now? I had an external USB TrackPoint Keyboard connected to the dock and have never had any problems from the UltraNav or the Updates.   Generally, there were two UltraNav tabs in the Mouse Panel, one for the onboard TP and one for the Ultranav USB Keyboard.. Now there's only one "Synaptics" tab which is all hozed up.  I cannot change the sensitivity of the mouse etc.. I've tried to uninstall the Synaptics Drive via Add/Remove Programs - it will not uninstall, it just hangs the Thinkpad to 100% CPU and sits there.  I've tried rolling back the driver in device manager, it refuses to rollback. I've tried reinstalling the older Ultranav driver and it complains that a newer driver is installed, use add/remove programs to remove the newer dri... I have drivers for both synaptics and elantech touchpads. synaptics is supposed to support two finger scrolling on my computer but there is no option there to enable it. I have a Samsung laptop, my model number is Rv515-A04US, running windows 7. Under device manager elantech is not listed. I guess it didn't install? I have Synaptics PS/2 Port Compatible TouchPad. Any ideas?

Answer:Synaptics Trackpad no scrolling

I have a Samsung laptop, my model number is Rv515-A04USClick to expand...

Here is the support site for the Samsung NP-RV515-A04US laptop:

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/NP-RV515-A04US

Select the "Downloads " tab and then select the "Drivers" section and then select the Windows operating system.

The list of device drivers for that laptop will appear.

The touchpad driver package (version 4.1.0.0) contains files for both Elan and Synaptics touchpads.

It's my guess that activating the TouchpadSetup.exe file will detect the correct touchpad and install the correct driver.

After upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7 the Synaptics PS/2 touchpad no longer has scolling ability. I have tried vertical and horizontal, as well as 1 and 2 finger. The touch pad is enabled and scolling is enabled. The current driver is 19.0.12.98 which was updated by windows update. I have downloaded and installed 19.0.19.1 from the Synaptics website and it didn't work. I have tried the Windows 8 driver from Synaptics as well and had no luck (failed to install even in compatibility mode). The original Compaq Windows 7 driver wouldn't work either. Unable to find any solution by searching or reading the forums. Any help is appreciated.

I have an x61s running Windows Vista business (32 bit). Problem is the trackpoint scrolling feature not working in Apple web browser Safari. Somewhere on the web I found instructions for fixing this by editing file tp4table.dat located in c:/windows/system32 However, I cannot find any such dat file in that location. I did find a file with that name in the following location: C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\tp4track.inf_45c84db5\tp4table.dat To this file I added the following lines: ;iTunes/Safari Scroll Fix*,*,itunes.exe,*,*,*,WheelStd,0,9*,*,Safari.exe,*,*,*,WheelStd,0,9 However, this did not help, trackpoint scrolling still doesn't work in Safari. Does anyone have an idea how I can get this working? Thanks

Hello, Is there a way to have both - scrolling with trackpoint while holding the middle mouse button - and - being able do a middle click with the middle mouse button? I can accomplish this easily under Linux like it is described here. But under Windows it seems to be impossible. I can only have either middle clicking or trackpoint scrolling. I need both.  If anyone knows a solution to this please let me know. Walter (I have a X200s and Windows 7 x64 installed)

Answer:Trackpoint scrolling AND middle clicking

Yeah, this is easy in Linux can't we get some pressure to actually get this implemented properly in windows. Useability is the main reason i got a thinkpad it would be nice to know we could actually influence it in some way. (Bumping an old topic here)

Hi, I am attempting to fix a problem with scrolling in Windows 10 (also applicable to Win 8/8.1). Everything works as it should within non-Windows programs, but "apps" and Windows OS screens do not allow scrolling. I am using the most recent (Windows 7) Lenovo driver. I have tried installing the Ultranav version (updated for Windows 8) but it will not allow it. Any ideas on how to get a working driver installed on this machine? Everything else seems to be working flawlessly.

When scrolling with the trackpoint, I find that the pages don't roll as smooth as the older Thinkpads did. My T410 scrolls much more smoothly than my X250, and I'm thinking that it is a driver issue. I have the latest Synaptics driver, which would be 18.1.27.14. I've tried rolling back the drivers, and it still doesn't improve the scrolling issue. Did anyone else experience this problem? Has anyone fixed it? Also, as an aside, I've found that I could not play FPS games with trackpoint. The left and right buttons don't click immediately after typing. I always get killed right after sprinting because I'm standing there, unable to shoot. Other than that, the trackpoint is suprisingly easy to use for games.

Hello, everyone! I'm having an issue with zooming inside autocad using the center mouse button on the laptop and the trackpoint. Whenever I try to zoom using the trackpoint, my drawing disappears and the entire autocad window seems to move up or down. Using the mousewheel on a USB mouse works just fine. Research about this issue reveals that it has been common for thinkpads since at least the T60, but all such questions go unanswered. Please tell me if there is a way to use the trackpoint to zoom and pan. I'd really like to enjoy the benefit of not having to take my hands off the keyboard to use the mouse.

Hello keviinf, modify the tp4table.dat file is the one way, updating the ultra nav drivers could help also. Please reboot your system after editing the tp4table.dat file.Otherwise it won´t work.I did some tweaks on my both systems too. Like enabling horizontal scrolling in Firefox.

Hi guys, I'm Alex, newly subscribed user to your Thinkpad forum, and here to ask for your help (if possible) ! Here is what I'm facing right now on my old (but still working like a charm) W510 :Quite happy to move away from Windows 8, I recently accepted to make the upgrade to the newest Microsoft OS : windows 10 64bits. It didn't take long to get used to it and I haven't had any issues with the programs I am using daily. But... I am having troubles with my trackpoint scrolling method. On both Chrome and Edge browsers installed on my computer, scrolling is buggy/laggy/not smooth at all. Web pages seem to "stick" a bit to much which makes jumps every time you try to scroll with the trackpoint. On the touchpad it is better but not so good either. It is really not a big issue but it can drive you a bit crazy after some time... Surprinsingly, scrolling is great on the OS. The issue is only happening on some programs. After looking around on the web, I am pretty sure that the issue is coming from the UltraNav driver. Since everything was working great on 8.1, I decided to reinstall the old driver (UltraNav 16.2.19.14). And as expected, it worked ! Scroll was back to what it was before, but not working on Microsoft Edge. I am using Chrome so I didn't pay much attention to that anyway. But since Windows 10 doesn't let you choose the updates that are installed , the issue came back when Windows Updates automatically installed the supposedly "newest a... Hello everyone, I searched a bit both these forums and others but haven't found the solution to this problem I'm experiencing. I recently bought a used T430 and I've been using it for the last couple of days, trying to get used to trackpoint and all. I performed a clean windows install and installed a Win 10 education my university provides. I followed the advice on Lenovo webpage about letting Windows update do its thing first and then run the Lenovo System Update utility to update drivers as necessary. Everything's working nicely other than some issues with the trackpoint buttons (the 3 buttons just below the space bar are called the trackpoint buttons I guess?)  Anyway, the issue is that before I did a fresh install, the middle button when pushed entered the scroll mode which then let me scroll using the trackpoint. Now it still enters the scroll mode but also does a right-click when I let go. This leads to an issue where a right-click is performed at every scroll step(if that makes sense) which leads to wonky scrolling. One other issue is that the right button does nothing at all. I expected the middle button to only have scroll functionality and the right button to simply right-click.  Things I've tried so far: - Manually removed the pointer device and ran Lenovo system update again to update the UltraNav drive, and also disabled auto-driver installation of windows update. The driver version installed by System Update is 19.0.17.115.&nb... Read more

Hi all, I pretty much always use my Trackpoint to scroll (with the middle button). But several sites I visit see horizontal scrolls as triggers to change page. So, I'll be reading a page, scrolling down via the Trackpoint -- and at some point I'll have deviated enough from vertical to trigger the horizontal behavior -- and I'll then be shuttled off to a page I don't mean to be on. Is there any way to configure the Trackpoint scroll to ONLY scroll vertically? If not, is there perhaps a way to get Google Chrome to stop listening to the horizontal scroll? Thanks, it's actually quite a PITA for some sites I visit.

I'm using the ultranav middle button to scroll (I live for this feature which is why I've been buying thinkpads since time immemorial) However, on the t460, scolling with the middle button/nubbin is painfully slow in Word 2007, and Adobe Acrobat/Reader is a nightmare. In Word its just slow and you have to use a lot of pressure on the nubbin (there appears to be no setting to change this). In Acrobat, it's agonizingly slow (in both Reader and Pro) and will "stick" on if you try to go to fast and just scrolling for multiple seconds after you release the button.  Stragely, the trackpad scrolling works fine in Word, though it is still bad in Acrobat.  In addition, the middle button scrolling will frequently slip and stop scrolling, sending the pointer to the bottom of the page.  Nubbin/middle button scrolling works (oddly) extremely well in Microsoft Edge... Please help! Middle button scrollig with the nubbin is the best feature on these machines.  Using: T460 Windows 10 64-bit with the latest drivers.

My question concerns middle-button-scrolling for the Trackpoint on the Yoga 260, which seems to use an Elantech device and driver. Most of the time when I try to use the middle button to scroll, it starts off trying to scroll horizontally, which I then have to overcome to scroll vertically. It takes a lot of time and makes it easy to overshoot. I've been playing around with registry settings and the INI file, but haven't been able to figure it out. I installed Windows 7 64 bit on my Lenovo ThinkPad R61 model 8918, which has Alps TrackPad and TrackPoint. However it is well known problem that when the computer is awaken from suspend or hibernation it loose ability to scroll (in my case TrackPoint stop scrolling with middle button pressed). I tested over 7 different ALPS driver versions found on the Internet, but any of the does not have scrolling type 1 for TrackPoint (standard smooth scrolling with scrollbar cursor). On couple forums people wrote that ALPS drivers from late 2010 have the problems with loosing scrolling fixed. However Lenovo Support did not release any new version of the driver for Windows 7 for model 8918 (with Alps stuff). Is it possible that someone at Lenovo would take mercy on us, users of 8918 with Windows 7, and release newest drivers from ALPS with all the stuff related to ThinkPads trackpoints???

From what I can see, this is a common problem with the Synaptics touchpad but the fixes I've found on other websites do not appear to work on my machine. As I understand it, when two-finger scrolling with my touchpad on Windows 10 (in IE11), rather than sending mouse scrollwheel  events, the Synaptics drivers actually control the scrollbar instead.  Whilst this is fine for most sites, it means that zooming doesn't work on Google Maps with the scroll gesture.  I'm also unable to scroll on webpages which have "virtual" scrollbars rather than using IE's native scrolling.  I couldn't remember an example although it appears to even affect elements on a page e.g.http://manos.malihu.gr/repository/custom-scrollbar/demo/examples/complete_examples.htmlNone of the elements scroll with a scroll gesture however if I plug in a mouse with a scrollwheel, they do scroll. Similarly, one can't scroll on this page but can with a proper mouse scrollwheelhttp://alvarotrigo.com/fullPage/  Does anyone know of any kind of fix for this as it's incredibly frustrating! Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello,

Here are some screen caps of the driver discrepancy as well as the UI for the mouse, which has no option for one-finger scrolling. How do I enable this?

Thanks for any advice you can give me!

I would prefer one-finger scrolling along the right and lower edges of the touchpad (like my old Toshiba Satellite) but this Satellite Pro L850-1MJ has two-finger scrolling in the middle of the touchpad which is counter-intuitive (push up to scroll down) and more importantly means I have to hold my hand in a position which is killing my wrist.

If I go into mouse settings, I can switch on/off the various 'multi-finger' options relating to two-finger scrolling, and there is a separate option 'scrolling' - if I tick the box on I get a little graphic demonstration of one-finger scrolling, but it doesn't actually turn on the one-finger scrolling.

Can I get one-finger scrolling on this laptop? If so, how?

'Settings' tell me I have Synaptics TouchPad v7.5 on PS/2 Port and Synaptics Pointing Device v16.2.10.3 14 Aug 12

Any answers gratefully received, preferably before my wrist drops off!

Answer:Aspire 5560G - Synaptics Touchpad not Scrolling - ...

It sounds like the synaptics software is not installed.  If the synaptics software is indeed installed, sometimes the scroll function is not enabled and you just need to turn it on.  This is done in the same place where you change the mouse cursor, you should have a synaptics tab.  If its not there, the synaptics software is not installed.

Here are some screen caps of the driver discrepancy as well as the UI for the mouse, which has no option for one-finger scrolling. How do I enable this?

Thanks for any advice you can give me!

Answer:Synaptics touchpad V1.2 - no option for one-finger scrolling?

I'm thinking that's on purpose. If you did that, how would you then move the cursor on screen? Single finger is cursor movement, two finger is scroll. It's a touch pad not a touch screen.

Hi everyone

I intended to post this one in Tablets & Touch section at first, but since this issue only occurs while using IE 11 -- I thought this may be due to some conflicts or settings change in IE 11 that is causing the issue.
I am using latest WIN 8.1.1 64-bit OS. Just bought this lap 2 months back. I had updated all the drivers, softwares and security patches from manufacturer's site & MS Windows too.
This problem is there right from the beginning. I had also updated my BIOS to the latest given in the HP product site. No drivers or softwares other than those given in product site are installed.
The issue is whenever I start using IE (I have IE11), the touchpad scrolling function freeze for sometime then again revert to normal and it goes on & on while browsing though different webpages irrespective of which one I open. When it start suddenly the touchpad cursor stuck up n immediately gets control of cursor but scroll function still remains inactive. I have not seen this issue otherwise while doing normal windows operations when IE is closed. But issue remains on other operations specifically scrolling through Windows modern apps while IE is open. I may not be able to reproduce this issue at a time specified by you, it just comes & goes intermittently.
I had done troubleshooting for touchpad, and everything went normal. I had looked for any driver issues but could not see any in the device manager. Had unistalled & reinstalled latest version of Synapt... Read more

Hi all, I really like using the Trackpoint to scroll. But an increaing number of Web sites react to horizontal scrolling by jumping to other pages. So, for example, if I'm reading down a page -- and if I need to use the Trackpoint to scroll down as I'm reading -- if I'm not perfectly vertical when I pull down on the Trackpoint, the Web site detects it as a horizontal scoll, and I get whisked off to another page. I can't be the only person having this problem? Is there some way to disable the Trackpoint from scrolling horizontally without disabling it from scrolling vertically?

There's a special rules list for TrackPoint scrolling under "C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\TP4table.dat". Not sure how to define a rule though.

Whenever I scroll using my SmartPad: either with the "Edge Scroll" or the "Two-Finger Scroll" or when I scroll using the TrackPoint+its middle button, my web browser zooms in/out. Just as if Ctrl was being pressed. I have deactivated all the zooming gestures of the SmartPad, so "pinch zoom" is not the problem. This is an incredibly annoying bug and it makes the ThinkPad brand lose credibility. Is there any way to fix it?

My trackpoint has been working fine until recently. Today it suddenly stopped moving the mouse cursor when I move the trackpoint. Instead it scrolls the window as if the middle button has been pressed down. But I did not press the middle button. The trackpoint just can't move the mouse cursor at all. I've tried rebooting without any difference. Any solutions?

I enabled the "tap zones" feature in the Synaptics touchpad settings and configured the zones to right click and middle click. I notice that sometimes the zones stop working while tapping and navigating are still ok. It turns out that scrolling with the middle button and the trackpoint somehow prevents the tap zones from working.A quick fix is to move the cursor using the trackpoint, move it again using the trackpad, then the zones will function normally. However the fix isn't permanent.I hope that Lenovo / Synaptics will address this small issue in the next touchpad driver update.

hi guys

i bought this a while back
Packard Bell EasyNote TE11HC review | Expert Reviews

default windows 8, i couldnt get on with windows 8 unfortunately then it went totally crazy so i installed a copy of windows 7 ultimate x64
with windows 8 my mouse pad was awesome, swipe pinch zoom two finger scroll etc.

now with windows 7 nothing, not even the side scroll section of the pad works just normal mouse navigation and button clicks

ive installed every driver under the sun ALL of them, old, new, windows 8, windows 7, 32bit, 64bit,
when i install synaptics it says its a regular ps2 mouse and pad no settings for multi touch

im not a total noob so i went through all the stuff i know and checked forums even downloaded gesture suite which couldnt intall due to errors, then cant uninstall synaptics drivers with revo uninstaller due to some dll error so uninstalled with device manager and deleted the registry entries with revo, but when i reboot windows auto installs drivers

i even went to settle with two finger scroll app, and that came with error no touchpad, but i must have a touch pad because it worked with windows 8
basically i cant get it to work, lol, cant take it anymore! how can i fix it chaps???

all of the drivers are working fine

ive honestly got all of the drivers 10/15 different drivers

Answer:Cannot get multi touch gestures or scrolling to work on synaptics pad

yeah so i'm stupid, there was a link underneath my post regarding harware IDS, i googled my hardware code ACPI EDE0500 somthing like that, first result was elantech, sooooo wasnt synaptics all that time, which is annoying because the software on windows 8 im sure said synaptics anywhoo, elantech for you folk out there who are silly like me

Issue 1: When I vertical scroll in a web page (Chrome & MSIE) by dragging TrackPoint (stick) while holding down left UltraNav button, the cursor moves but the web page fails to scroll, or demonstrates scroll latency of about .5 to 1 second behind the stick movement.  Sometimes, I have to try a couple times to get the scrolling to occur. Issue 2: Very often I must double click on UI buttons and web page links with the UltraNav button, when I should, traditionally, only have to click once. Received the T510 about 7 days ago.  i5, Win7 64bit, integrated graphics.  I've disabled all eye candy and set theme to classic.  Updated to latest available UltraNav and display driver.  I've tried just about every adjustment in the mouse and UltraNav settings, going as far as disabling the touchpad and touchpad filters. Synaptics driver info:Driver provider: SynapticsDriver date: 3/24/2011Driver version: 15.2.19.0Download from: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-66898File: 6hgx37ww  This is truly annoying and I'm about to return this laptop.  I hate to resort to that.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  I've used a T43 and T61 for the last 7 years at work and never had this issue.  I love T-model Thinkpads, but this is a poor experience.

Answer:T510: TrackPoint scrolling hesitates and left single click often ignored

1. Does vertical scroll work elsewhere? Like in Adobe Reader or a long Wordpad document?2. Same here; do clicks work elsewhere?I've only seen the delay when my CPU is being maxed out and SynTPEnh.exe doesn't intercept the middle-drag in time.

My laptop touchpad scrolling stopped working this morning after I updated my gpu driver. I went to the packard bell website and looked at the touchpad drivers for my laptop. There is a synaptics one and a elan one.
I have them both installed on my laptop but it still isn't working and there is still no virtual scrolling option in synaptics. These are the options that I have in the synaptics settings:
This is what it should look like:
What do I have to do to get the scroll trackpad feature to work again? P.S, when in device manager, even though there is an ELAN tab in mouse properties, Only the synaptics driver shows up under the mice section in device manager. Does this mean that the synaptics driver is replacing the ELAN and I need them both for the scroll to work.
Thanks

Answer:Touchpad scroll not working, No virtual scrolling option in synaptics!

I've been messing around with it some more and ended up totally removing the synaptics drivers and installing the ELAN drivers. After doing this the scroll features of the trackpad work again so I have no idea why there are synaptics drivers on the model page for my laptop. There is still a problem though, when I got into the ELAN options in 'mouse settings', I get "windows shell common DLL has stopped working" and I then have to close the mouse settings. So now I can't get into the ELAN settings. Anybody have any info on 'windows shell' issue?

I have Win 7 32-bit, T400 and latest ultranav drivers (v 14.0.18.0). When I use the scroll feature of the touchpad or the trackpoint in applications such as Adobe Photoshop CS4 or Adobe Acrobat, the scrolled image has some vertical or horizontal bands not scrolled. It seems there is a synchronization or some other problems in the Synaptics driver that does not allow the scrolled items to render correctly.Needless to say that it does not happen when I use an external mouse with a wheel.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A200 Notebook - Synaptics Touchpad Not Scrolling?

It could be a hardware issue.

I had similar problems w/ notebook - mousepad had to be replaced.

You could try to un-install all drivers in Device Manager then re-boot. Vista will re-install. Also make sure to go to OEM site and get updated driver - if available.

Note that you will lose mouse function completely after un-install. Have USB mouse or b/c familar with CTRL-ALT-DEL that will get you to screen so you can use arrow keys to restart system

Alright. So since I've bought this computer I've had problems with the two-finger scrolling suddenly stopping, like many people have. That's always been fixable by going into properties, device settings, settings, unchecking/rechecking one of the boxes under "two finger scrolling" and hitting OK. Now, though, my touchpad is suddenly stuck on one finger scrolling, and it's super annoying. There is no "one finger scrolling" option under the "scrolling" drop down thingy under device settings, so I haven't a clue why this is happening. I've tried the usual fix above, restarting the computer, installing new drivers, but it still does one finger scrolling. Which means it scrolls a lot of the time when I don't want it to, and the pointer seems to get "stuck" at times when I'm just trying to move it around. This is extremely frustrating - any help would be great!

Hello all.

I see from previous posts that this issue has been addressed in some way or another a few times and I have tried several of the fixes, and have had no success.

1. I have a toshiba L300 next to me(girlfriends), and this feature works fine. V annoying!!
2. I have never been able to enable the scrolling. I know where the setting are and have tried to check/uncheck the boxes/ press 'apply' then ok and the other way around.
3. I have re-installed the drivers from toshiba(synaptics).
4. I have updated the bios from tempro. Although I only registed for tempro recently, the dates on the list of updates seemed fairly old. ie. not much new stuff available anyway.

Thats where im at!
All advice would be apreciated.
Also, are Realtec drives related with the touchpad in some way??
Cheers Phill
I have about a month left on the warranty, so hopefully this would be something that may be covered if no-one can help.

Answer:Satellite Pro A210 touchpad synaptics cannot enable virtual scrolling.

Hello

In my opinion everything you already done is right and I?m really out of idea what you can try except most radical solution ? OS installation with recovery CD/DVD. After doing this you will have ?factory settings? again. As far as I know virtual scrolling is enabled by default and it should work after first start.

So doing this you can make the ?ultimate test? and be sure if this function works or not.

I rarely enjoy the Synaptics Enhancements and previously only had to bear with it because it emulated certain guestures to make the previous laptops I've used bearable to operate but now Windows 10 has adaqute support for precision touchpads and will offer guestures for it baked right into the OS instead of previously relying on the Synaptics Enhacement services/programs to provide them. Unfornately it seems like Synaptics Enhancements brings the 'Too Many Cooks' problem when it tries to handle scrolling while Windows itself is also handling the scrolling resulting in eratic 'twitching' as you scroll up and down a program, especially programs like Command Prompt or PuTTY that don't scroll fluidly (move line by line). Initally this problem is fixed by going into 'Local Services' one way or another (Searching with the Start Menu or a link in Task Manager under 'Services'), finding 'SynTPEnh Caller Service' or by it's service name 'SynTPEnhService' and disabling it to stop Synaptics Enhancements entirely and remove the reduntency (after killing SynTPHelper.exe & SynTPEnh.exe in your preferred method). Unfornately a new problem arises after the machine resumes from Sleep or similar state that it seems to put the touchpad in a basic driver mode where guestures are limited or just don't work, but this is fixed by starting the 'SynTPEnhService' service then killing it then cleaning up the SynTPHelper.exe and SynTPEnh.exe programs it spawns to get the touchpad work... Answer:Synaptics Touch Jitteriness on Scrolling & Additional Oddities on Windows 10: Bandaid Fix

Don't follow the above bandaid fix. After spending a week or so with the bandaid fix, it isn't particularly bulletproof on fixing the problem since Task Scheduler seems to not always trigger on login for some reason, but this is usually fixed by running the batch script as administrator. However unfornately, I've realized you do end up loosing the ability to use the center button for the touchpoint to, in my case, scroll so I can't switch between scrolling on the touchpad to the trackpoint if I'm scrolling a long page and flicking the mousepad up and down is not ideal. At the moment there needs to be a driver update to at least remove the reduntant scrolling that Synaptics Touch is trying to do for the touchpad and everything would work nicely as expected. Luckily I did figure out a solution but it feels not ideal because you have re-enable the Synaptics Touch service (which spawns the two programs) then untick 'Use a two finger drag to scroll' and 'Use a two finger pinch to zoom' in Settings > Devices > Mouse & Touchpad to let Synaptics take over scrolling while also preventing Windows from zooming since it has no other guestures to look out for. The notable downside I can see at the moment is Microsoft RDP and probably any other program that operates like this. Microsoft RDP seems to support touchpads quite well enough to allow smooth scrolling through a connection, but with Synaptics it seems to not fully understand how to handle the inpu... Read more

Good afternoon all,
We have an older IBM thinkpad 600x, that my husband uses to play simple off line games and read a few emails. The past few days when booting we are getting the error #08611.
From what I have been able to find I believe that this has something to do with the trackpoint.
We use a wireless mouse with this so do not need the track point. Can someone please tell me how to disable the trackpoint?
Thanks!!!
I wish a Happy & prosperous 2010 to all.

Now that the 5th gen Thinkpad is here, the decline of the trackpoint becomes ever clearer.  Frankly, most of us would not be buying Thinkpads if they didn't have the trackpoint.  That's the X1's main advantage.  But Lenovo keeps making it worse.  First, the trackpoint caps that will fit the gen 4 and 5 come in only one, unpopular, variant and you can't get the soft rim version.  But more importantly, Lenovo keeps on degrading the software control of the trackpoint.  It used to be that you could adjust the sensitivity of the trackpoint, making it more or less stiff.  Even the softest setting was inadequate but it was something.  In the 5gen there is no option to change the stiffness or responsiveness of the trackpoint's movements at all.  Lenovo: hear your customers!! Please make the trackpoint MORE not less adjustable.

Hello,my Thinkpad 600 never failed me(except for having to replace the CMOS battery every 5 years, which seems to be normal for this model)but now the Track Point is "stuck" somehow. I touch it once and then the mouse pointer arrow keeps runningto the left side of the screen. The external USB Mouse works fine, but only when the Track Point is deactivated in Thinkpad configuration. Before, I sometimes had the problem that the arrow kept moving after I had stopped touching the TrackPoint, but it always "calmed down" after a second or so.Does anybody has an idea how to fix this ? Or is it just broken?Thank youNiaUpdate:On the Lenovo troubleshooting pages I found the following explanation"The TrackPoint does automatic compensations to adjust the pointer sensor. During this process, the pointer moves on the screen automatically for a short time. This self-acting pointer movement can occur when a slight, steady pressure is applied to the TrackPoint pointer while the computer is powered on or while the system is running, or when readjustment is required because the temperature has exceeded its normal temperature range. This symptom does not indicate a hardware problem. No service actions are necessary if the pointer movement stops in a short period of time."Well, I am a little confused by this. So the TrackPoint does some kind of self-calibration? And what do I do if themovement doesn't stop? Maybe should I install a new TrackPoint driver version? Please, can somebody help me a little...... Read more

Answer:thinkpad 600, trackpoint malfunctioning

Welcome to the forum! Yes, TrackPoint is supposed to self-calibrate and move occasionally, but is also supposed to stop doing that after a few seconds. Quite a few people have reported this issue with 600 series in the past, and there is no known cure (apart from using an external mouse) that I'm aware of. It' s supposedly a glitch that develops on the main board. Try updating your BIOS and drivers from the "support and downloads" section of Lenovo's website. Good luck.
