I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

There are a number of posts about this problem on another forum, but I figured I would start one here to make sure Lenovo is aware of it. Since the arrival of my 2017 x1 carbon, the touchpad has had what appears to be some sort of driver issue. The pad works fine for a few minutes after restart, then randomly it starts to have some sort of issue where it starts freezing up each time you lift your finger and put it down again. The tap to click feature no longer functions, and the cursor jumps around randomly as well. These problems go away after a restart, but will start again after ~5-10 minutes of use. It makes the computer pretty much unusable and is extremely frustrating. The only thing I've found to help is disabling the trackpoint in the synaptics settings, which brings back the tap to click, but doesn't help with the freezing issue. This also disables the physical buttons above the touchpad, which is a big part of what I love about thinkpad hardware! The problem happens on both the lenovo supplied windows 10 pro install, as well as a fresh install of windows 10 pro, both using the drivers supplied on Lenovos website. The specs for my machine are below. If anyone else is experiencing this or has any info please respond with which x1 specs youre running and anything you may have tried. Im also curious if anyone is NOT experiencing this issue, which could indicate it might not be entirely software related. X1 Carbon 2017I5-7300U512 nVME PCIe SSDWindows 10 Pro x64... Read more

I made the purchase of the computer on August 07.After the traditional start, with Windows pro updates, I realized that the tocuhpad did not work properly. At times it worked and in other cases it was disabled, for this reason I had to do all the initial configuration with the Trackpoint and then with an external mouse.I proceeded to perform Lenovo Companion software and driver updates, where several features were updated.I reviewed several Lenovo forums, in English, to learn about a possible similar problem and its solution.I tried to solve the problem by checking that the BIOS was activated both the Trackpoint and the Touchpad, but it did not work.Later I tried to configure the functions with the mouse and touch panel option from Control Panel, but both functions are activated, trackpoint and tocuhpad. The final step was to uninstall the mouse and touchpad drivers, and look for the new drivers from the Lenovo web. In particular Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad.With all these steps, I have not been able to activate the Tocuhpad, and I do not consider something Good, that a new computer has these drawbacks.

There is another thread documenting freezing issues with the touchpad, that seem to be resolved with the latest driver update. One problem, however, that the driver update has not resolved for me, is that small and precision finger movements on the touchpad initially move the cursor correctly, but the cursor snaps back to its original location once the finger is lifted from the touchpad. This only happens for very small movements, but it creates very frustrating situations. For instance, trying to move the cursor slightly to place it on a button, only to have the cursor move away from the button once a tapping gesture is attempted. This seems to be a driver issue. The solution I have found is to disable "allow taps on the touchpad" option in Windows 10. This option is found in the settings menu of Windows 10. Once this is disabled, snap back no longer occurs, but of course, the user can no longer tap the touchpad. Is anyone else having this problem?

I started having issues with the ultranav middle button. It works when i start the computer but after a few minutes of scrolling up and down it does not work anymore.  The only way to have it function again is to either restart (which will again only work for a few minutes) or use a bluetooth mouse to uncheck and check the mouse settings for trackpoint which that too will work for a few minutes only. I've updated the bios and updated the driver. Still not stable. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Hello forum! I bought Lenovo Thinkpad Carbon X1 2017 (black) laptop with the FHD screen a few months ago and now I want to upgrade to the WQHD screen. Is this still possible? How much would it cost to change the screen on my laptop? For more information, I live in New York City, New York and I am willing to visit a certified Lenovo outlet in the city to make this happen. Please let me know who to contact / which number to call. I'm very happy with the machine but I do wish that the screen had a higher resolution.  Thank you for your help! Wishing you a pleasant day ahead.

Hi, Is it possible to add an SO-DIMM slot from factory if you request it when you make the order for this laptop ?Because I saw that the maximum memory available will be only 16GB of RAM soldered to the main board and I will like to add another 16GB RAM if it is possible.I saw that all of the processors available for this laptop can handle 32GB of RAM. Thank you !

I recently fully restored my Windows 10 Pro on my tx1c5 (kabylake 20HQ).I was installing new drivers and charging at once. The fan was pretty loud so decided to install BIOS Update Utility ver 1.22.It helped however when laptop turned on it stopped charging.I installed other recommended drivers from lenovo site (like power management or thuderbolt ones) but none of them worked. I didn't install drivers from sections Enterprise Management and responsible for storage. Should I?Then tried to restore system once again, but windows won't allow me without connected AC. System recovery doesn't work as well. Also, tried to look in BIOS settings, but unfortunetly couldn't found anything that would help.I don't think it is a charger problem becouse it is quite new, and the problem appeared just after BIOS update.I have 50% battery left and don't know what to do when it will be gone to 0 .I will add that both usb-c ports don't work. Can't test them with external storege, becouse i have none.Do You have any ideas? Would appreciate some solutions!

I"m certain that in the last two weeks atleast once or twice I saw the shutdown screen saying installing an update. Ever since when I open the lid to resume from sleep state it takes a good 3-4 minutes for the screen/system to wake up...what gives? I haven't installed any major in my comp in the last month or so I'm not able to figure out why this is happening. Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

Hi, I don't have the touchpad issues which are mentioned in this thread. My touchpad is working fine except it goes into hibernate. So if I wake up my device and the system wants me to log in into Win 10 the touchpad still needs some time until it reacts. It feels like it is deactivated for some time. After about 5-7 seconds it is working fine. Are there any suggestions to solve that problem? I have the new Bios 1.20 installed and I am also using the current Synaptics Driver 19.3.4.86. Thanks

Because I didn't liked USB 3.0 ethernet chipsets and USB-based ethernet cannot bear some network-intensive tasks, I wanted to use PCIe-based Thunderbolt ethernet controller on my XPS 15 9550. As there is no Thunderbolt 3 "PCIe" ethernet adapter (except docks), I chose to buy Apple Thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter and Thunderbolt 2-based ethernet adapter.
I plugged it into the XPS 15 9550 (tested with BIOS 1.1.19, 1.2.14, 1.2.16 and latest Thunderbolt firmware with NVM version 16), and the PCIe device did not pop up. Instead, only USB billboard device is appearing saying that "Alternate Mode configuration not attempted". Both Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.10 failed to detect the device. I moved this configuration to MSI GS63 laptop, and it detected ethernet controller successfully (that laptop utilizing NVM firmware version 18).
It seems that other vendors are affected with lower NVM firmware version involving setup with Thunderbolt adapter: see the case of Lenovo too. Do you have planned Thunderbolt NVM firmware update for XPS 15 9550? Looks like XPS 13 9360 is using newer Thunderbolt NVM firmware version, though.

They WORK!
My new 2017 Dell XPS-13 2-in-1 arrived today and just finished testing it with our Apple Thunderbolt Displays & new Apple Thunderbolt Adapter ($29). Plugged it (adapter / mini-dp pigtail) into the LEFT USB-C port and monitor sprang to life without any issues. The LEFT port appears to have a higher class of protocol extensions. The Dell also works in "lid-closed" condition, but requires an "open-shut" to activate sleep after disconnecting.
We also have a Acer R240Hy Usb-C display which works (charge/video) from both ports. The LEFT port is smooth for FHD, but the RIGHT usb-c has drops under FHD.

Hi, I have a ThinkPad X1 Carbon 3G 20BSCTO1W and within the last month or so started having start up issues. Basically, I will press the power button and will get stuck at the "Starting Windows" screen forever. When I shutdown (by holding the power button), restart, and press enter to go into repair mode, I've been able to get by by doing a system restore to February 12th. Hello all,I'm a longtime ThinkPad user (740C, circa 1994?) and I've somehow never joined a ThinkPad forum before! Happy to be here at last.Anyways, I recently installed an Msata SSD into my T420s WWAN port and I'm using it as my boot sector. Very pleased with the performance and I've been enthusiastically telling my friends about the benefits of an SSD boot sector using Msata while still retaining the main drive bay as conventional HDD storage.A friend of mine recently purchased an X1 (non Carbon, the first generation) and asked me about my SSD experience. He took the plunge and ordered a Plextor 128GB Msata SSD online and had it shipped to his home. He asked me to come over and do the install for him.Based off of how easy my install experience was, I agreed quickly. I took a really quick look online and it seemed like the install for his was even easier than my experience with the T420s. Literally three screws out of the bottom, pop out the keyboard and right away you had access to the WWAN port. The install went as expected, I disconnected the AC adaptor and opened her up, installed the SSD, plugged the adaptor back in and booted up. BIOS recognized the drive and we were ready to get started. While in Windows downloading Macrium Reflect for use cloning the boot sector, I decided to move the laptop to another surface and unplugged the AC.........computer shut off instantly, as if there was no battery present. Tried pressing the power button, no effect.Plugged power back... Read more

This is a really difficult issue to diagnose, I've disassembled the laptop to the point of removing the battery pack, the computer detects the removal and reinstallation of the battery but continues to say "Plugged in, not charging" and dies the second I remove power. I contacted Lenovol support and they send me a replacement unit. The the replacement unit has the same problem. Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.  I need to plug in the power adapter for both docking station and notebook.  Does anybody have similiar problem?

Answer:Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.

Everbody's p51 would be the same.  The thunderbolt port won't work as a charging port.  The thunderbolt specs specify 100w max.  That's not enough.  Your thunderbolt port is not for charging.  To charge via the dock, you need a workstation dock, not a thunderbolt dock.  A thinderbolt dock can charge things like an x1 carbon (5th gen) or x1 yoga (2nd gen)

Does the Thinkpad P51s support the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? I have the Thinkpad P51s with stock Windows 10 Pro and updated to latest drivers and Windows version and installed the latest Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock drivers. Attaching the Thunderbolt 3 Dock to the P51s as described in documentation, it charges the notebook, however, noting attached to the dock is recognized. I've tested with attaching USB flash drives, headphones, Ethernet, HDMI, and DP, but nothing is recognized nor are any warnings/errors displayed in Windows. While the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock is listed as being compatible with the P51s and T570, the notebook order page does not list the Thunderbolt 3 Dock in any of the accessories lists. Lenovo Sales also confirmed that the Thunderbolt 3 Dock is fully compatible with the P51s.  However, I needed to purchase the Thunderbolt 3 Dock separately from the notebook order. What's going on? Has anybody successfully used the P51s or the T570 with the Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock? Or is this something I need to wait for full support via a future BIOS/driver update? Or perhaps my Thunderbolt 3 Dock is defective? Thanks,Boris

Over the past several years there are many posts of users experiencing variations on this problem with X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga of various generations, including the latest ones (I provide a list below). That is, the systems often cannot come out of sleep mode in some way, shape, or form. I had this problem on my own brand-new X1 Carbon 5th Generation, right out of the box. In my instance, I noticed this issue in the following two scenarios: -After having gone in to sleep mode, once I opened the lid, or press power button once:power light goes from blinking to solid onscreen stays blank/blackseems that if the machine is going to be in the frozen state, keyboard presses do not "unsleep" it (which they normally would). Closing the lid causes the power light to go to solid on, but then opening it again does nothing.in a couple of rarer instances, the machine actually did come out of sleep but then instantly the screen froze (but this was quite uncommon, mostly it just wouldn't come out of sleep at all)-After passing the initial boot screen of Lenovo, the next part shows the Lenovo logo but without the swirling dots and is frozen (the power light would show on)Under both conditions: The power light is solid onThe keyboard lights functionality works: backlighting, FnLock light, mute lightSometimes you can hear the fan workingPlugging in to external display does not display anything on itThe only way to rectify is to do a hard shutdown by holding the power key With... I received my X1 Carbon 5th Gen just a few weeks ago. Today, a thunderbolt 3 port next to an LED suddenly died and seems to no longer accept any devices. I tried 4K monitor and some other USB devices thourgh a USB type C hub connected to the port, but nothing worked. I tried with Windows 10 and Ubuntu 17.04, the port no longer works with any operating systems. Interestingly, Windows 10 now thinks it's connected to AC power even when nothing is actually connected to the Thunderbolt 3 ports. Therefore I strongly suspect this is a hardware issue. Does anyone have a similar problem?

Hi All, I would like to check the stability of the X1 Carbon 2017, if it's still as problematic as what I've read from the various threads: trackpad issues, thunderbolt ports issues, etc.  I've just returned a Yoga 370, supposed to be Mil specs but delivered faulty right out of box. As a form of resolution and customer retention, Lenovo has recommended and offered to swap to a X1 Carbon or T470 as what they claimed to be stable laptops.  I would like to to seek your opinions on this before deciding whether to go ahead with another Lenovo. I'm really keen to move on to other companies since the customer service rendered, active following up and updates has not really been that satisfactory.  I would like to hear you guys out first before deciding.  Thanks in advance

Again, not sure why Lenovo is so hard headed? Resuing to listen to what the MAJORITY of people want. * No OLED displays? How long do we have to wait for this? 2020? * SD Mini slot in the back? Very inconvient. No one is going to use it. (regular SD card on the side works better).* CTRL and FN button still in the wrong location. Why again do we have to fix it in bios when Lenovo can easily make it right? No SD card on my 2015 is the most annoying thing ever. Yes I have a stupid USB SD reader but c'mon. What's the point of thin and light if we have to carry a bunch of add-ons. Especially when the SD card slot doesn't even take up any space. Stupid move. Lenovo is losing sales and customers and it's due to them being out of touch with consumers.

Answer:The 2016 X1 Carbon was a flop. When will the 2017 ...

The 2016 X1 Carbon was a flop for Lenovo? I doubt that. I think it sells very well for Lenovo. You say the majority of people want an SD card reader? Many mobile systems don´t have one anymore, and they still sell. This is a niche requirement, and Lenovo, who is a company with a wide lineup, has other models to fullfill that need. Aka the ThinkPad T460s, which is dimension and weight wise almost exactly the same as your X1 Carbon 2015, but with an SD Card reader, Ethernet, upgradeable RAM etc.

I just received my x1 carbon last week and I love it. However, I've noticed that the fans are always on when the laptop is plugged in, regardless of what I'm using the computer for. When the laptop is running off battery power, the unit is quiet. Has anyone else noticed this issue? So far, using the Windows 10 power management options hasn't made a difference. For instance, switching to "passive" cooling while on AC power hasn't changed anything. I would appreciate any feedback that can be offered.

I've received an X1 Carbon yesterday (i7-7600u, 16GB, WQHD, 1TB SSD and pretty much all options) and on the first boot Windows had a number of problems during final setup.  This led to a number of "Something went wrong" messages and a freeze at one point but after a couple of restarts it finally got to the desktop. I am concerned there maybe a hardware issue but it could be the combination of hardware options/drivers. A quick hardware test in Lenovo companion didn't show any issues so has anyone else had this type of problem on first boot?

Hi, I've only had the x1 carbon 2017 for ~3 months now but suddenly every port on it has failed. Both USB Cs don't recognize the charger and the usb ports don't recognize any USBs. If the charger is plugged in it simply won't recognize it and the LED will not light up. I tried the charger on my phone and it works so it has to be something with the laptop. If anyone might know anything that could solve this please let me know!

Hello,I got my new thinkpad x1 carbon 1 month ago and since it constantly has been slow on internet browsing. For example, it's almost impossible to use the Inbox by Google webmail because it's too slow. I have an Intel Core i7 - 7500U with 16Go RAM and 512Go SSD.I don't know why my thinkpad is so sluggish when browsing the web. I have tried different web browsers (Edge, Chrome and Firefox) and it doesn't seem to make any difference. I'm on the "normal" power plan so the power limitation should not be very high. But when I plug my laptop and chose the performance mode, all the slow-down disappear. I have made all the updates that the Lenovo Companion told me to do.Sometimes the OS seems slow too but it's more rare. I don't know what to do at this point. Do you guys have any ideas ?Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone, I'm looking for the opportunity to buy latest x1 carbon in US, does anybody know whether the FHD display is IPS? For WQHD it's specified IPS technology but for FHD it's specified 14.0" FHD (1920 x 1080) 300 nitsAlso, is it possible to add options to the top spec, E.g. WWAN and WiGig, the site doesn't allow the customization so far. ThanksIlya

Hi there, I?m very interested in purchasing the new X1 carbon, but with the 2k screen. I can?t find any official statement about a release date appart from ?summer of 2017?. Did anyone know more about it? Have a nice day.

Answer:Carbon X1 2017 WQHD release date?

When I last asked their online chat support (last week), they said they simply "did not know".  This is in spite of the X1C product page saying WQHD would be available in June.  I'm a big Thinkpad fan - my X220 is still running strong and I got a Thinkpad Yoga 14 last fall which I sold only bc I was so amazed when I saw the release of the X1C 5th Gen in January.  But I have to say I am very very disappointed in Lenovo.  Almost six months after boasting the WQHD specs it is still not available with no estimate on timing either.  This is one of the largest companies in the world yet they can't seem to have an efficient supply chain.  No wonder HP has snatched the #1 PC maker crown away from Lenovo...

I had been reading the new review of the T470 from Notebookcheck and something caught my eye; they specifically mention more than once that the WWAN slot can be used for an SSD; http://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T470-Core-i5-Full-HD-Notebook-Review.198130.0.html"Between the WiFi module and the 2.5-inch slot is also a free M.2-2242 slot, which can either be used for a WWAN module (antennas prepared) or an SSD""The available storage solutions for the ThinkPad T470 are quite interesting. Inside the chassis is a 2.5-inch slot attached via PCIe x2. This slot can either be equipped with a conventional 2.5-inch hard drive (HDD or SSD, up to 7 mm high) or an M.2-SSD (2280), which is sitting in the 2.5-inch tray via adapter. It is also possible to implement another SSD in the M.2-2242 slot. Lenovo's spec sheet, for example, lists a 128 GB model or Intel's Optane solution (16 GB), which can act as cache in combination with a conventional hard drive."I'm hesitant to assume this will apply to the new X1 since it doesn't have an option for HDD and therefore no need to configure the WWAN port to support an SSD for caching. Can anybody test/confirm this? I've read documentation on the new X1 Spec sheet and hardware maintenance and it mentions nothing about support for additional devices in the WWAN slot. I'd kill to be able to have a separate SSD for a linux install so I don't have to mess with bootloaders every time windows has a major update.

Hi, I'm long time X / ThinkPad user and I have few issues that are making me crazy.1) I'm mostly using TrackPoint. It happens quite few times in some hours that mouse starts to slide to diagonal position. I can stop this by either having computer go to sleep or trying to move mouse on mousepad for 10-20 seconds until computer figures out that I'm on omusepad. Today it happened 3 or 4 times in an hour2) When I'm moving mouse with TrackPoint and stop it somewhere (for example on button) I often need to click a few times until mouse click is detected (using TrackPoint buttons)3) When I am using MousePad and I move fingers slow it moves in a shaking way or sometimes does not detect my finger movement4) It has always worked that when I was using MousePad (for example T460s) when I was sliding with one finger from point A to point B and then pressed with second finger it triggered Right Click. Now I need to slide from point A to B with one finger, remove finger from MousePad and tap with two fingers All the drivers are up to date and all windows updates are installed as-well.

Hi,I re-installed Windows 10 and only some of the function key special functions are now working.  Mute, volume and screen brightness keys are working, the remainder are not.  I've seen similar threads that mention re-installing BIOS and power management software but that's made no difference.  I've been unable to find a "Hotkey" feature that is also mentioned.  Companion software says everything is up to date.  Don't know what to try next.  Any thoughts?

My Apple airplay devices (Airport base stations with speakers attached to them) are visible and usable upon fresh boot. However, after the computer goes to sleep (lid closed) or hibernates, upon resuming, the devices cannot be found, either by iTunes or Apple AirPort Utlility. This is not an Apple problem; the devices are all recognizable by other devices, including a Thinkpad x250.  I have reinstalled Bonjour, iTunes, and AirPort Utility.   Thoughts?

It seems that Lenovo has released today first infos of upcoming models including X270: http://www.anandtech.com/show/10940/lenovo-updates-the-thinkpad-lineup-new-models-welcome-changes I have been postponing laptop purchase because I want one with QHD or better resolution, thunderbolt3 and ability to charge with standard USB type-C charger. Now it seems that for some reason that I cannot understand Lenovo has still decided not to include QHD or QHD+ resolutions to quite many of the upcoming models, including X270, Yoga 370, Thinkpad 13 and T470. It is now already 4.5 years ago from the moment when Apple Released Macbook Pro retina with QHD equivalent resolution. In addition some of the articles claim that the new USB type-C port in X270 will NOT have thunderbolt3 availability. And it is like 5.5 years since Apple included thunderbolt. I really think we should start noise from this. If there will not be a serious portable workstation like X270 with QHD or better resolution and enough USB-slots (at least 3+1) and thunderbolt support I am seriously considering to switch away from Lenovo (e.g. Dell XPS 13). I know that some people prefer FullHD (e.g. for longer battery life) so there could be an option for both. I want QHD because 1. If you want to have two web browsers side by side without horizontal scroll bars you will need minimun QHD, 2. Because you can actually start to see details in pdf books without zooming 3. Because you can have large amou... Read more

It appears that the only way to report a BIOS bug to Lenovo is to post in the Forum (at least that is what hardware support told me), so here goes! Base system:20HF-CT01WW (T470s)BIOS: 1.11 (issue also showed up under 1.10)Windows 10 Pro Edition, Creators Edition, fully patched. The Thunderbolt port only shows up in Device Manager when the Thunderbolt firmware utility is run - it appears that Thunderbolt ports dynamically attach to the PCI bus only when necessary (i.e. firmware utility asks it to turn on or a device is plugged into the port).Booting with battery from a cold boot (machine powered off for at least 15 seconds) results in a hang with the windows boot time circle of dots cycling endlessly. I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

I am trying to connect a ThinkPad t460s to my 27'' Apple Thunderbolt display. Hi, I have the Thinkpad Twist S230u, in the specs it says it has a mini display port, but is this port a Thunderbolt? I read too many things in forums and I got mixed up.  I want to be sure it has.  The ultrabook uses the Intel 4000 integrated graphics. The reason is I want to plug something like the MSI GUS II in this port to have external graphics.  Will it work? Thanks!MaDube

It is a displayport only. Here is the list of ThinkPads that have thunderbolt ports. There are currently only two models of ThinkPad that have Thunderbolt ports. http://www.thinkscopes.com/thunderbolt-port-on-thinkpad-t430s/

My speaker and my audio generate very loud high pitched noise after waking from sleep.I had to mute my audio if this happens, but the speaker is essentially unusable in this situation. If I plug in my headphone through audio jack, the high pitched noise will come from both headphone (and unmutable) and my speaker (if I turn on the volume). I hope this is fixable through driver update.

I was wondering about the Thunderbolt device as there are no drivers at the support page and even the Solution Center/System Update Utility doesn't recognize the Thunderbolt device. As so it isn't listed in the Windows Device Manager. I made sure that it is activated in the Bios (Thunderbolt Enabled). When I plug in a second display via a Display-Port to DVI Adapter, the second screen is not recognized. So I guess the device/driver isn't even installed. Sadly I don't have another Thunderbolt device to test its functionallity.I try to buy the apple thunderbolt to firewire 800 adapter. Does anyone know if it will work with non-apple thunderbolt implementations?Any help is appreciated. Thanks, David

Answer:Thinkpad Edge S430 Core i7 Thunderbolt Device

Hey Dagavie,

I believe that Thunderbolt is part of package and that is why you don't find as a stand alone download. What you can do is try uninstalling the video drive and installing the latest version.

Here is the link:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?

Also the device itself could need its own driver that you would have to get from the company its from. Like the monitor your try to connect.

Being as apple doesn't like to play well with others I can guess it wont work but this is just a guess and not a fact.

Best Regards,

Hiro

I think the only things wrong with this years thinkpad is the battery life and screen brightness, here I have a few things that lenovo can improve on to step up their game and create the best 14 inch business class laptop in the world. 1. Increasing screen brightness to at least 400 nits as it is very dim compared to competition and outside work it becoming a pain.2. Increase that battery life to 18-20 hours in your tests, which will lead to about 10 hours of real worlds usage even if it means not being as light maybe back to the 2.8lbs of last year. As this years 11 hours isn't very long in real world usage compared to the likes of maybe Dell XPS or even Apple.3. Bring back the full SD card reader (which atm I dont see an issue with the microSD, people have complained).4. Try using intel Iris graphics instead of HD graphics as its more powerful, costs around the same and people will appriciate it more. I hope users agree with what I am saying and even though its far away I can say im looking forward to what the 5th Gen X1 Carbon has in store for us!

Dear All fellow,   I have a technical problem as below, hoping you can help me solve this issue.   Firstly, I had just purchased a Thinkpad T430s in previous days, it has a thunderbolt port and now I want to purchase IMAC 2012 "21.5" inch. But I want to transfer data between Thinkpad T430s and IMAC 2012 with thunderbolt port and also I want to use this iMac 2012 "21.5" inch as an external screen on my T430s with this thunderbolt ports. I don't know whether it can be workable or not.  Can you help give me some comments? Thanks for your help!!Andy Ling

Answer:Thinkpad T430s can connect to Apple IMAC 2012 "21.5" with thunderbolt port ?

Thunderbolt port gives you access to PCI and DP interfaces. DIsplayPort is output port only, so you can not "stream" output from your TP to MAC. PCI - should be possible, but I doubt that there is supporting circuitry for this. There is Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter that can be used to transfer data. EDIT: If you want to connect screen only then it is possible.

Hi everyone, i have quite a few questions so i'll post separate threads rather than pollute one thread. I'm wanting to get something a lot better than windows defender. Comcast is my ISP so i can get NIS for free. As most of you are aware of Norton hasn't been doing a great job these days. There has been multiple vulnerabilities in its products that actually decreases the security of windows. Still NIS still does a pretty good job of scoring pretty well in the various test in terms of protection. I was thinking on going with either bitdefender or KIS but of course i would have to pay for those. If you were me would opt for NIS because its still pretty dang good and worlds better than bit defender or would you opt for one of the better products like KIS or bitdefender?

Answer:Kaspersky IS 2017 vs Norton IS 2017 vs Bitdefender IS 2017

bitdefender free+ CF and SAP i think will be good

I'm guessing we might be due a 2017 shipping dates thread now...  I ordered an X1 Carbon 2017/5th Gen (top spec except for i7-7500U & 512GB PCIe storage) in the UK on 24 Feb. The Digital River order status hadn't changed since then so I emailed customer services today, who said: "Unfortunately, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5G 20HR ordered is currently unavailable and, as a result, shipping has been delayed. Your new estimated shipping date is 31/03/17." Yet the delivery status on the UK Lenovo store still says "7 business days". It's not ideal for me as my X220 screen is failing, and may not last out another month. I think one or two people on here have received a new model X1C  - how long was it between order and delivery, and what model number do you have? TIA! I am trying to use a 3rd party external GPU enclosure that attaches via thunderbolt, and when attached, I got the message pop-up that external GPU support was not enabled by the vendor, and as such the device will likely not work? Has Dell locked the Latitude 7480 down to no external GPU support?

Answer:Latitude 7480 - Thunderbolt 3 - Thunderbolt software say external GPU support not enabled?

Probably.  I read somewhere that since Dell is pushing their Alienware external GPU stuff that uses a proprietary connection, they never enabled external GPU support via Thunderbolt.

Hi,
I myself own an XPS 15 9550 and noticed that I was not getting the full Thunderbolt 3 speedover it's Thunderbolt 3 port. I expected speeds around 2700MB/s, because of the overhead withthe theoretical gross speed of 3870MB/s, but I only ever got 1400MB/s out of it.
I did some digging and found out that none of the XPS notebooks with Thunderbolt 3 are evenable to achieve the full TB3 speeds, because they are only connected with two PCI Express lanes (x2.3).You can read more about this on the following links:Dell Subreddit PostChipset Digging on Forum

Thunderbolt 3 and the promised speeds were the MAIN REASON I even bought this notebook.I feel very cheated here.

Answer:XPS 13/15 9530, 9550, 9630 can only reach Thunderbolt 2 speeds over Thunderbolt 3 port.

I just bought a new XPS 13 2IN1 9365 laptop. I have a Thunderbolt 3 external graphic card. I connect the XPS to the external graphic card via its Thunderbolt port. But the XPS's thunderbolt is not working. It cannot find the external display card. I called for technical service and the technical guy has changed the BIOS and even the whole main board. But the issue still cannot be fixed. Its thunderbolt port still cannot find the external display card when the card is plugged in. Is it Hardware or BIOS issue? Anyone can help?

Answer:XPS 13 2IN1 9365 Thunderbolt 3 Issue

The system has Thunderbolt firmware updates and a Thunderbolt controller driver.  I do not know if your system would need the firmware but did you install the controller driver?  If so, did it install OK?
Video might be involved with the Secure Boot situation.  Were the Thunderbolt boot settings enabled in the Bios?
I have a TB 16 dock through which I have connected a monitor and it seems to work OK.  Whether it is available for boot, I do not know.
Do you have a model for the external graphics card so perhaps I could understand how that connection is being made?
On another subject, is your system making any strange noises?

Hi all, We bought about 10 HP X2 Elite 1012 G1 along with Thunderbolt Docking station. I setup the laptop then installed the drivers for Intel Management Engine and Thunderbolt dock. Updated the firmware for Intel chipset as well. Since we setup these laptops user complain about the dock not getting detected by laptop. No matter how many times they restart. I went through each laptop and observed the following issues: 1- When I open the Thunderbolt software, it shows multiple HP docks in the attached devices with cross sign (which means the device is disconnected). It seesm that the Thunderbolt software creates multiple entries of the same dock then fails to detect it 2- When the laptop goes to sleep mode, the dock gets disconnected and then it doesn't get detected at all, even after reboot.  So far the only fix is as below: (which worked 90% of the time) 1- Uninstall both Intel management Engine driver and Thunderbolt Secure connect driver2- Install both Intel management Engine driver and firmware + Thunderbolt Secure connect driver BUT, this can't be a proper fix because in a corporate environment we can't go through this every single time. It's a total waste of time/money for a corporate. On top of that, users get frustrated by this issue that is ahpenning constantly. HP PLEASE FIND A PROPER FIX. Hi ! I have a W540 20BG-CT01WW Laptop since 2 years. He was originally on Windows 8. In November, I upgrade to Win 10 and have issues with 100% disk usage at startup for st least 5 minutes. Today, I tried for the first time the thunderbolt port with a MiniDP to HDMI dongle. Nothing happens. I tried twi different HDMI cables on two different TVs with the same issue. I update all my drivers from nvidia and intel, BIOS and Intel management. After updating the graphic drivers with the files on Lenovo website specific to my serial number, I was able to copy and extend to the tv. After unplug the dongle and plug it back, I wasnt able to reconnect the TV. I read a couple of forums about this type of problems, I uninstalled all the drivers, set the bios display to advanced, reinstall all the drivers again. When the laptop finished to reboot, i heard the sound when I connect a new device and I was able to use the tv as second monitor. It was working well until I reboot the laptop. Now it's not working at all and even if I uninstall all the drivers again and follow the same steps nothing works. I also install the thunderbolt software Can somebody helps me with this issue ?

The port one the dock heats up and the cable cycles on and off. Thus giving me undesired results. I've tried 3 different cables now and still the same results. The computer acts as if I've disconnected and reconnected the cable over and over. Until it is disconnected. What should we do?

Answer:thinkpad x1 carbon

Hello and welcome,

Generally speaking, we're not supposed to be discussing password bypass.Other than reloading the OS you're probably out of luck.  I take it you didn't create recovery media?

Have you checked the usual: CAPSLOCK on (or off if on when creating the password), phantom NUMLOCK, etc?

HI everyone, I have a question regarding SIM in x1 carbon. I am not very good with technology, so I don`t know if my x1 carbon has a working SIM slot. It has a slot for SIM card but when I put it on, it doesn`t respond anything, like `detecting` or something like that. My question is: does x1 Carbon (Model 20A8-S00600) has a working SIM card slot. If it does, how can I make it functional. If it doesn`t what do I need to do/buy to make it functional.  Thanks,Kushtrim

Answer:Thinkpad x1 carbon SIM

Hi and welcome, kushtrimYour laptop is "WWAN ready" only, i.e.has the SIM card holder, the SIM card reader and WWAN antennas installed. WWAN modem wasn't factory preinstalled, that's a cause you don't see anything once SIM card is installed. So, to use laptop WWAN capabilities, purchase and install WWAN modem - 3G or 3g/LTE.

I have started using the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 2 as my main work laptop this week, and have officially retired my ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 1 for backup purpose. So far this is what i feel are the major positives of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 2 vs Gen 1.

Positives:

-Better TrackPad
The quality of the Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 1 trackpad is a definitively a plus compared to the old ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 2. The surface finish of the ThinkPad Carbon Gen 2 is smooth, compared to the rough rubberised surface of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 1. Also, the trackpad left and right click is more precise, and is not as loud as the ThinkPad Yoga, which is the main convertible tablet i use nowadays.

-Build Quality

ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 1 that i got had some build quality issues, especially in the screen area and the TrackPad. Also, the overall fit and finish of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 1 is lot worse than the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 2. I have to say that the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 2 fit and finish is top notch, it is the only ThinkPad that i can compare to the Macbook Air 13 that i got one year ago (yes i do have Macbook laptop).

Surface coating on the X1 Carbon Gen 2 is anodised hard layer over Magnesium Alloy for the main body chassis (i think the screen cover is CFRP, but i am not sure), rather than the more typical rubberised layer of the older ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 1.

Palmrest on the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 2 also resists fingerprint and pal... Read more

Greetings, My X1 Carbon Thinkpad will not connect to wi-fi either several times a week, or at worst, several times a day. I can try to get online with the Thinkpad and the tiny orange symbol is lit on the wi-fi icon. Clicking on that, the wi-fi message says, "not connected."  Sitting in the same chair, I pick up my Samsung Note tablet, and it effortlessly connects to my home network. My phone connects and my Kindle connects. Everything connects except the Thinkpad. At this moment, the X1 Carbon Thinkpad is connected, and I am typing on it in this forum. But, in an hour, I could pick it up, and it will not be connected. The "Windows Network Diagnostics" will tell me "Problem found." The explanation will be "Problem with wireless adapter or access point."  Then it will explain: "Not fixed."   Any suggestions?   Best regards,Bill Phillips, Durham, North Carolina

Hi , I want to buy a new laptop and I found an ad for X1 Carbon. When I asked about warranty he told me that he doesnt have any documents from the laptop and  that he lost them together with the original packaging when he moved to a different house, but that the warranty is valid with just the serial number from the laptop. Can you confirm this is true ??Support for that serial number says:Base Warranty Status : In Warranty, expires , 2019-03-06

Hi, I recently bought a X1 Carbon (20A7) without WAN support. Is there any chance I can add this functionality by buying and installing a WAN component? Any orientation on this matter would be most helpful to me. Thanks. Regards,Sven

Answer:Enhance your ThinkPad X1 Carbon with WAN

You need to purchase a compatible WAN adapter and install it as explained in this video.

?Hi.  I just bought my new X1 Carbon Laptop that shipped with Win 7 Pro (installed via downgrade rights), and I'm wondering how to go about upgrading it to Win 10 Pro. I've read I need to request a disc from Lenovo.  Is that true?  If so ... How? Isn't a download available? Thanks!

I bought a fully decked out Thinkpad Carbon x1 with a 3 year warranty from Lenovo for only $2,200. Just a tip: if you order via the chat feature on the website you get some incredible savings. Basically the warranty was free.
If you own an x1 carbon 2015, what are your thoughts on the machine, what configuration do you have?
How does windows 10 run on it? I know that Daniel Rubino posted how it runs for him, but looking for more feedback.
I look forward to your responses and I will sure post mine once I receive it :)

Hello everybody, is there anybody that has upgraded his 3rd Gen X1 Carbon to a 1TB ssd? I'm running out of place and would like to have a bigger ssd and do not know which one I could use. I tried reading in the forums, but was not able to find out which SSD would work. Somehow NVMe is not supported, it has to be a PCIe SSD (I think), but I'm not too familiar with these things. I looked at the new Samsung SM961 1TB that is just coming out, would that be able to work? The specs are here: https://gzhls.at/blob/ldb/c/4/4/9/618ff48c1c0dc799c9442fd598fa06935527.pdf Any help would be deeply appreciated.Regards,Jochen

Hi, I am not very familiar with computer stuff so my description might be too simple and lack important information. Please feel free to let me know what I miss so I could update the missing part ASAP. I bought this 3rd generation X1 Carbon (win 8.1 installed) two months ago. Everything worked just fine until I installed AVAST 2015 antivirus software when I could no longer connect to any wireless network. Well, strictly speaking the laptop was connected to the wireless network but I couldn't open any webpage successfully. The strange thing about it was that the remote control that I previously set up between my laptop and my office PC actually worked. So every time I wanted to open up a webpage, I had to do so from my office PC using remote control. I am thinking if it is an issue caused by my installation of AVAST. And if so, how can I fix it? Thank you very much everybody for taking the time and effort to read this and give instructions. I really appreciate any help!

I just got X1 Carbon. Let's make it clear that this notebook is not worth the money. X230 is probably much better choice. You will get much better notebook with better hardware, better battery time, better size. It is not worth to buy X1 just because it is thin. Actually when you have X230 in your hands it feels much smaller than X1 Carbon!!! X1 Carbon Facts:No i7 with 8GB RAMNo 1000Gbps NIC (not even USB adapter with 1Gbps) I dont understand how business notebook does not have 1Gbps NIC. My 3.5 years old X61 has got 1Gbps NIC. Brand new X1 Carbond does not have it. I cannot believe it. Don't buy it. It is waist of money. Look at Toshiba or MacBook or X230. They are much better notebooks. I will look at Toshiba next after this bad experience. It is clear that Lenovo is not IBM and they started making compromizes. Thinkpad is not as it used to be. Have a good day.

Answer:X1 Carbon is the worst thinkpad I have ever had - think before you buy

"X230 is probably much better choice." - For many, including myself, the 12.5" screen is a deal breaker. Some of my colleagues use those and it's just too small for me. As for Mac, no thanks to running win on it.
