Lenovo T440 Battery Error

Question: Lenovo T440 Battery Error

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T440 and the batteries are showing battery error in the Power Manager. I am unable to update my BIOS to see if that will solve it and my batteries don't seem to be eligible for a Firmware update. My Warranty is also expired. Anyone have any suggestions? error is showing up on both batteries (Front internal and rear removable). Laptop works fine when plugged in but will not power on if it does not have a charger connected. Batteries don't charge at all (With or without it being powered on) All suggestions welcome. Would prefer not to have to get a new battery set as these ones are relatively new and shouldn't be throwing this error. I do not have a spare Thinkpad I can test the batteries in or that I can test a known good battery from.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all, recently I bought Lenovo t440. How long should last battery (s) in this laptop in normal or power saving use with screen at 65-80 %? I know this laptop have two batteries , and both of them are 3 cell right ? Extended battery have 6 cell, which I don't have, but might I would  buy it . I noticed my both batteries last max 3,5 hours max 4. This is from I what know - slightly short.  Before I buy some of this batteries I would like to know which one is maybe fault, or worst of them. Maybe is faulty inside battery, maybe plug in one.  My battery indicator in win 8.1 shows both bAtteries ... It seems windows recognize capacity or remaining storage from both of batteries in same time,or, should I say, it seems my laptop is running on power from both of them in real time... Maybe laptop should drain batteries one by one ? Ok, if this is normal, let's skip it     main question is still, how to check each batterie health / or one by one in mY T440  to see which one is maybe faulty or less good, for potential replacement ?   thank you all

Hi There, We have just purchased virtually brand new lenovo T440 thinkpad laptops however the batteries are either draining to 0% overnight when the laptop is shut down (not put to sleep) or not turning on unless plugged in, which defeats the point of a laptop really. Please can you advise a solution? Thanks,Neil

The other night I was working on my T440 and all of a sudden the screen flashed and powered off. At the very last moment I seen a critically low battery error. I immediately plugged it ina nd tried to power on again, I got to the splash screen, then it flashed the battery error again and shutdown. I ordered a Lenovo battery of the same exact size brand new installed it and now I am not getting anything. I allowed the unit to charge while plugged in for a little while and still nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions?

My computer was unplugged and closed, but it ran out of power and now will not charge. I can't find a solution in search. Not wanting this to become a part time job. (Camera not working either...great.)

Answer:T440 Battery 1 missing and battery 2 not charging

Does it turn on? Sometimes if you run completely out of power it takes a few hours for it to get to 1% charged.Did you order your T440 with an internal battery? It's an optional component.Has your webcam ever worked?

My battery is not part of the recall (42T5209) however it has all the symptoms of the recalled batteries. I was on battery with ~78% battery life left. I shut down the computer and turned it back on several hours later, or at least I tried to. No go!! Plugged the laptop in and got a flashing battery error. Battery is showing 78% charge left, displays the battery voltage however AMPERAGE IS AT 0.00%. Called IBM/Lenovo and opened up a case, however all they can do it 15% off the cost of the battery.I am past the 1 year warranty on the battery. What I do not understand it why they are covering certain batteries and not ALL batteries that have the issue... Update: Well the battery IS PART OF THE RECALL, however I am past the "6 month" extended warranty coverage.Edit2: Battery only has 98 cycles... Message Edited by draco2527 on 04-14-2009 06:33 PMMessage Edited by draco2527 on 04-16-2009 01:04 PM

After buying a T440 (not throuh lenovo), I realized that it has capability to hold an internal battery. But the item I bought didn't have one. Instead it came with a 6 cell external battery which protrudes in the back. Is there any way I can have internal battery added now? Hello, I've just bought a second hand T440, and windows 7 tells me that battery #1 is "missing" (battery #2 is ok).If i take out the external battery while in BIOS or Windows, the computer shuts down, so I believe it's not a driver issue. My BIOS is up to date (2.29), set to default configuration.Do you think it's a hardware issue? Thanks for your helpPierre

I have a T440 laptop that suddenly decided it's having an error with the internal battery that shipped with the system (which is a genuine battery, has not been touched/removed and was working fine until this morning).  The error displaying is: "The battery installed is not supported by this system and will not charge. Please replace the battery with the correct Lenovo battery for this system." I updated to the atest BIOS a few weeks ago, have the latest Power Manager and Power Manager driver as of a few days ago. External/removable battery is fine. Any thoughts on how to resolve this, or anyone else having this issue?

Answer:T440 external battery not charging

Hi Valdemar_d,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with External battery not charging on your ThinkPad T440.

The problem you are running into is Power Manager conflicting with the 80% BIOS threshold.  So to avoid this, either keeps the Power Manager threshold for both batteries below 80%, or else both batteries above 80%.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Hi, recently i bought from ebay an thinkpad t440 20B7-S0FV11 i5 4300u with 8Gb of RAM and 500Gb hdd. This laptop came without front battery (internal), it just came with the external one so i bought one internal battery on the internet and put it myself on my laptop.I press the reset button on the button of the laptop and turn it on.The issue is that windows (and also ubuntu) didn't recognize the battery. Windows say: "battery not detected"!I already update BIOS and everything and the battery still not detected.Initially, i thought that the battery was damaged but i charged it directly from the external battery, plug it inside of my laptop and turn it on. The laptop still not recognized the battery (and did not charge it neither), and windows says: Battery not detected! But the laptop work without external battery and charger, just with internal battery! (despite that not charging or detected) So i thought that the lithium cells are probably ok.I want to know if it's a battery problem, some lenovo firmware on battery (since battery came from china) or some problem with laptop!Thank you all.(sorry for my english)

Hello The subject of this message says it all. When I want to start my T440 without AC power, it happens quite often that the machine will not start at all - no lights, nothing. In such a case I am forced to plug in AC power just for 1 second, hit the power button and then my T440 will start. Sometimes it starts without AC power, but then again sometimes it does not. it seems random. Note: I am not talking about resuming from hibernation or etc, I am talking about a new, fresh start.I searched the internet in detail for a solution, but no result to my problem. Of course I read from other users having problems starting up their T440, but never exactly the same problem. My battery lasts for a couple of hours.  What to do? I am in Myanmar, far away from support. I tried many things already, including taking batteries out, start, turn off, start again.... Many thanks for your help.

I'm contemplating purchasing a T440. I'd like to know what the average battery time you get out of regular usage - light - mild surfing, some picture browsing/editing, some video playback online (YouTube). I love the keyboard, not OVERLY fond of the trackpad, but I'm sure it takes getting used to.Anyone purchase the T440 that wasn't fond of the trackpad but then got used to it eventually and liked it? Thanks in advance.

Hi there,  I have recently acquired an T440 [Type 20b6] and everything was working fine until I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro (Three days ago). I initially had some issues which I resolved, however I am unable to resolve the issue with "Battery 1" not charging. It is staying at "0% and not charging". I have tried the following; - Upgrading the Lenovo Power Management  driver to 1.67.13.12 - Removal of the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" driver- Removing the battery and charging it in a Windows 7 machine (works fine) - BIOS/UEFI upgrade to GJET92WW 2.42- Removing the external battery and charging "Battery 1" on its own using Windows 10- I know the hardware is fine because it was charging under Windows 7 I'll appreciate any tips on how I can resolve this issue,  Thanks, XX00A1

In the BIOS, you should see the drive under STARTUP/BOOT. If you cannot see it, try putting your old drive back to be sure you didn't break anything. The new drive could be DOA

Hello forum, I bought a like-new T440 last week (500 GB+16 GB, 8 GB RAM, i5) & my experience so far has not been good at all. I am a student on budget & I got it to replace my failing 5-yr old atom powered netbook. I don't really care about other widely reported problems with this model like the button-less keypad. But the 1600x900 TN screen is so bad when compared to my old netbook's screen that I can't believe how Lenovo got away by putting this screen in an ultrabook.  There are other issues that have been bugging me and I need some help: 1. The brightness keys stop working after a while (for example, after waking the laptop from hibernation). They will not work until I restart the system again. Is there any way to resolve this issue? 2. The Access connections also stops working after a while and shows that I am not connected to the net even when I am online. How can I fix this problem? Or is it safe to turn off access connections & just rely on Windows network and sharing center? 3. The battery life is abysmal. With minimum brightness and mainly word-processing work and occasional youtube video streaming, I am getting less than 4 hrs. Is this normal? I use the "High energy savings option" & lenovo turbo boost diable option while on battery. I have a 3cell + 3 cell (48 Wh total). As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with system freezing on your ThinkPad T440.

Check if there is any virus in your system, you can use Microsoft security essential to scan.
Run Lenovo Solutions Center and run hardware scan to verify if there is any hardware issue in the system.
Boot the system into safe mode option and check if the system freezes in that also?
Perform clean boot option.

Hey Guys,I'm trying to hookup my Thinkpad T440 to my HDTV via a displayport to hdmi converter, than a regular hdml cable from the converter to the TV. The video works fine, but the audio has been an issue. Just doing some cursory browsing of the forums, it seems like there are a few things at play here, mainly 1) problems with individual converters, and 2) whether or not the laptop itself supports audio passthrough over the displayport. So my question is this, before I start buying different converters to see if it works, does the T440 with integrated Intel 4400 graphics even support audio pass through over the displayport? That piece of information does not seem readily available anywhere I look, especially for this specific model number (not the T440s). If so, anyone know which converter is giving people the best luck? Thanks for the help.

Answer:Lenovo T440 and Displayport Audio

As a quick addendum to the post (I didn't see an edit button), to summarize I understand that audio will be passed through if the laptop supports it. Thats the response I found in other threads.I am specifically asking how to find out if my laptop "supports it" (aside from buying random cables just to try and cross your fingers), which is the T440 Thinkpad with integrated Intel 4400 graphics. Thanks!

Hey, just tried to install an SSD drive into my T440 today and had to change the boot priorities in BIOS. Wasn't able to do so as it is asking for a password (and for the fingerprint first), and if simply pressed enter - it goes into BIOS but won't let change anything.Obviously I can't remember what the password is otherwise I wouldn't be typing here. Oddly enough it recognizes my fingerprint (thanks for that), but still need a password (?). Any solution? Am I missing something here? ThanksVictor

Answer:Lenovo T440 BIOS password reset

The only "fix" is to remember the password, otherwise you need to replace the motherboard

Hi all, I have a problem with the Fn key on my T440. It appears that the Fn key is hijacking the entire keyboard and doesn't let go regardless of what I do. I have toggled and played around every option in the bios including enabling/disabling FnLock, Sticky Fn, and Ctrl/Fn swap to no avail. The way the Fn key is hijacking everything is as follows. ESC key *always* toggles Fn lock on its own, so I don't have an ESC key at all. When the Fn key's light is off, the keyboard (alpha and num keys) don't type anything, but it seems like the keys are sending keycodes which should be sent when combined with Fn. In other words, when I press the 's' key, for example, I don't see anything typed, but a 'OneDrive' window pops up instead. This tells me the hardware key is fine and is getting pressed, but the computer assumes the Fn key is pressed *at all times* even though the Fn light is off. This happens with every key on the keyboard. Additionally, if the Fn light is off, the F1-F12 keys work as F1-F12 keys, which is expected (even though, at the same time, the alphanumeric keys don't work as expected). And if the Fn light is on, the F1-F12 keys initiate their special function, again, as expected. I can toggle Fn light by pressing only the ESC key, as mentioned. I have also installed every driver on the face of planet that is related to my model from lenovo support site. Nothing helps. I'm now typing this with a usb keyboard plugged into the laptop. This seems to... Read more

Hello,If there is somebody who could help me with this issue, I would really appreciate it.I have recieved at work a lenovo t440 notebook, everything worked fine, untill one day I noticed that I cannot conect to the internet via lan cable. I have a Intel Ethernet Connection I218-LM controller, I have re-installed both network drivers from lenovo and intel websites and nothing helps. Is there anything I missed? I noticed a weird behaviour, if I connect through wireless network, after sometime the lan connection is established and I can use it, but without wireless connection it doesn't work. Any suggestions what could have caused this issue?Thank you,Mark

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T440. I have replaced the trackpad with an older style trackpad, after putting everything back together it seemed as if everything was fine, but then I noticed that the delete key, PgUp, PgDn and PrtSc were not working. Note, the delete key does not respond even when I'm in the BIOS. I find it very hard to believe that I've damaged the keyboard and thus the functionality of some keys has been lost, I have examined the connecting ribbon cable and connection socket carefully, they are undamaged and free of debree. Can anyone give me any other suggestions? An external USB keyboard works fine.Delete Key doesn't work in BIOS.

Hello All,  Lenovo T440 as per data sheet should have a 4GB base memory soldered.  I added an  8GB memory. When I look at in WIndows, the only memory shown is between 7GB to 8GB. Why can't windows see the 4GB based memory?

Answer:Lenovo T440 Missing 4GB based memorty

Hello Last night I pushed the power button to turn off my laptop and now when I start it up, it takes me to the blue screen for a few seconds then to a black screen telling me to choose a start up option. No matter what option I choose, it will go to the blue screen and then cycle back to the black screen. Any suggestions on what to do?

Hi!  3 weeks ago, I bought a new T440 laptop. It is one of those that have the buttons for trackpoint users painted on the touchpad. Because I prefer the trackpoint, I've disabled the touchpad function, so now it is only used for left- and right-clicks. Unfortunately, in the last week or so, the left-click function has become poorer and poorer. Sometimes it works with the first click, but often I have to click twice for something to happen, sometimes even 3-5 times. When it doesn't work, I have to use some force and not just click, but rather hit the touchpad with my thumb. That usually gets the click through. But it's time consuming and annoying, because I never know how many clicks it will take to open anything. Right-click seems to be working fine, but I also don't use it that often.  I have 3 years of warranty on this computer, but I bought it in Estonia, as I was visiting my family for a week. Now I'm back in Germany where I study and I'm not sure I can use the warranty here.... Right now, the only solution would be buying an external mouse, but I have to be mobile with my laptop and a mouse would be a nuisance anywhere other than at my own desk.  I would be very thankful for any ideas on how to solve this problem or even just for information on what might be causing the problem.

Answer:Lenovo T440 left-klick not working properly

Hi Mariam, welcome to the forums,

you can check your international warranty entitlement on the following site; I'm pretty sure your T440 will be covered in Germany because the systems are also sold there.

http://support.lenovo.com/en_IE/product-service/iws.page?

The other alternative would be to simply call support and request assistance.  Tel. 0800-500-4618  Mon-Fri 08:00-18:00

Hi everyone, I need some much needed help with this issue.  I have a Lenovo T440, brand new, out of the box fresh that I setup for a user in my office.  Here are the following steps that I have completed so far:  -- Upgraded the RAM to 8GIG--Transfered over user profile using WET (Windows Easy Transfer)--Applied Updates --Installed Symantec Anti Virus Protection  The 1st set of problems after I initally setup the unit. The laptop had issues with Windows updates were it would just hang constantly during the update process, mostly during the "Preparing to Configure" part. What I did was remove Windows Security Essentials and afterwards the updates ran without a problem.  The 2nd set of problems started happening today. The laptop is docked to a native docktng station, but the monitors will turn off and on again. I searched these forums and found that it may be a driver issue. I will try this solution out later today.  The 3rd set of problems has to do with Outlook Home and Business 2010. The user sometimes cannot see e-mails in the "Reading Pane" and sometimes he cannot get the BCC feature to show the Global Address List. Also, his keyboard will stop working while trying to type an e-mail.  The T440 that is being used right now is actually the 2nd model that I have received, because I had to RMA the 1st one. Does anyone have any insight into these issues? Much thanks in advance.

Answer:Lenovo T440 Multiple Issues, Outlook, Displays

Greetings, On your 2nd issue what information did you find about driver issues?  I have 7 new t440P laptops and one is having problems with dual montiors when using a lenovo pro dock.  My laptops are built from the same image so I don't understand why I have not experienced the problem elsewhere.  Windows 7 - 32 bit The user describes it as the monitors shutting off briefly or doing a deguass.  It happens randomly, on both monitors at the same time and doesn't seem to be a problem when un-docked. I have yet to actually see it happen myself. I've tried diagnosing it as a hardware problem and have done the following so far: Flipped the VGA and DVI cables on the orginal LCDs.Replaced VGA and DVI cables on the orginal LCDs.Replaced the orginal LCDs with new LEDs.Had user remove additional USB devices from machine.Replaced the dock.Moved the hard drive from the orginal t440p to another t440p.Replaced the power supply to the dock.Replaced power strip everything is plugged into. After each step the problem happened again. Currently I am trying to run a extension cord from a different power source to see if that has any effect on the issue since I have not been able to resolve the problem as of yet.  I have not done anything with drivers or software since that didn't seem like a productive road to follow. Device driver info: Inter HD 4600, ver: 9.18.10.3272

Hello everyone.Be happy to be part of your community, but not to happy to create my first post because of some problem my notebook is causing.I bought a "new" lenovo, (it's not new, actually it was made in august 2014, but first time opened in january 2015.) thinkpad T440, but from the very first time, it causes me pain in my eyes. As a 15,6" laptop user, I thought, the problem is that it's smaller display so my eyes need to adapt. But after 10 days of pain, i thought that 10 days are enough to make my eyes adapt for such display. Next what i thought was that my previous laptop Ideapad Y580 resolution which was FHD 1920x1080, is bigger than one i have now (just basic HD ready 1366x768), is causing me problems for my eyes. Again, not true because I tried to work on some other laptop just to try which were HD ready too, and no problems detected. After that, I started to google a little bit and I found, that it could possibly be, that PWM is causing me an eye strain. Well, something about it can be true, because as i put my display to full brightness, i was feeling more relaxed on eyes, than when brightness was lower. I recorded screen on mobile and I was able to evidently see that there were "grey" stripes refreshing trough display (lower the brightness, the bigger the stripes). But I was not able to find anywhere, that this model T440 can cause such problems. Even on notebookcheck they say:"Lenovo uses pulse width modulation (PWM) for the brightness control of the reviewed dis... Read more

BSOD happens periodically when I clamshell my new laptop.
I've followed other threads and am attaching the file generated a log file (attached).

I've installed the Lenovo tools and updated all drivers and bios.

Thanks for your help.

Answer:Lenovo t440 BSOD after closing the lid (hibernate selected)

The BSOD blames the driver to Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260. Can you update it? It seems that the Intel? PROSet/Wireless Software for Bluetooth? technology for Windows 7* 64-bit (WP) and Intel? PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Windows 7* will work for you. Try to install ithose.

Also free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the “Startup” tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus and the touchpad driver SynTPEnh.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
Report us for any further BSOD after doing these two.

Hello! Could you please help me. I have X1 Carbon for about 1,5 years. So warranty is over.Today when I tried to power on my PC without AC power adapter, it failed. Then I pluged in AC adapter - windows loaded successfully, but Battery Icon says that "Battery is 18%, it is plugged in, but not charging". When I tried to unplug AC power, my PC turned off immediately. So battery is not working at all. I tried to install Lenovo Energy Management. It says, that I have battery error and suggests to replace the battery. I tried to temporarily remove the battery - no success. Again pc wont start without AC power adapter......What can I do also?  Battery was in perfect condition (80% wear level), so it would be really dissapointing to replace it...  PS: when computer is off, and I plug in power adapter, battery indicator blinks the following way: 3 times green, pause, 2 times orage, pause, 1 green. It seems like there is battery error, but probably there is some way to reset it. Thanks.

Answer:Error Battery on Lenovo Z480

Hi darkking, thanks for posting and welcome to the community. Based from your post it seems this is more of a hardware issue rather than some we can solve with a software. At this point what I can see is you may be facing with a battery failure. In order to diagnose further on the matter I would suggest you to contact our service team to confirm. Sorry i couldn't be much of a help but as this point your case will require our service team intervention to confirm that it is not a hardware failure.Regards

I bought lenovo y500 two days ago in INDIA.  In the lenovo energy management system 8.0, I found a battery calibration option and decided to do it.  The steps mentioned there were as follows. 1. Full charge2. Full discharge  The process performed full charging followed by complete discharge of the battery which caused the laptop to shut down.   When I tried turning on my laptop, it could not start.  The battery charging indicator LED wasnt switched on even though the power cord was inserted into the laptop.  I could start the laptop only after removing the battery.   Once the laptop was on, I inserted the battery back in and it began to charge.  After about 50% of charging, I removed the power cord and inserted it again.  Now the battery couldnt resume charging.  I again had to shut down the laptop and repeat the above steps of inserting battery after switching on the laptop without battery.  Only then the battery would resume charging. After this, I decided to allow the battery to charge to 100%. But, the charging remained stuck at 99% and could not fully charge the battery.  When I removed and reinserted the power cord, the same problem persisted of battery not resuming charging. Please help me with this problem.  I read on few forums about uninstalling microsoft ACPI which supposedly solves this issue.  However, ACPI returns back after I restart my laptop.I also tried switch... Answer:LENOVO Y500 BATTERY NOT CHARGING AFTER USING LENOVO'S BATTERY GAUGE CALIBRATION

ADMIN Edit - While the original post below is marked as the solution, because service will be required if the battery will no longer charge after performing a battery reset, I am adding a Lenovo update here to confirm.   Normal operation will allow the battery to relearn its capacity characteristics when using the battery reset function.  Typically this is not needed in normal use..   Batteries are equipped with a safety feature that will permanently disconnect them (like a fuse) if cell imbalance or an internal short is detected.   This tends to be statistically infrequent, but also normal, and would require a battery replacement.  (Batteries have a 1 year warranty).   This battery feature can also  produce similar results to what is being discussed in the thread, so it should first be considered by service.   This particular  forum discussion also involves a situation that could affect a limited number of systems, and could lead service to replace the system board during warranty.

If your system experiences these symptoms, please contact service during the warranty period.

Hi everyone,
My name is James and I've been using my Lenovo y500 for 2 years now (originally bought it to use for school/gaming). I've never had any problems with my laptop until I performed a battery gauge calibration using an app that was made by LENOVO. Now I know this is a known problem but what about the people who have purchased these Lenovo computers, expecting them to last? It's really not fair to the people with no more warranty because this is software that literally came pre-installed with the computer. Like, why put this app on these computers if it's going to break your motherboard? Anyways... The ONLY way I can ever charge my laptop now is by doing this annoying/tedious process that I managed to find on this forum.
link: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Solution-for-laptop-cannot-detect-AC-adapter-af...1. Remove the battery (if laptop is powering on, then shutdown it first).2. Remove the AC adaptor from wall ac receptacle. 3. Once the laptop is completely powered down, plug AC adaptor to your laptop and wall AC receptacle.4. After a few second, insert battery back into the Laptop. And then, the battery will be chaged as usaul.5. You need to repeat step 1-4 above every time you unpluged the AC adaptor.

This is extrememly embarassing for me sometimes especially when I have class because people look at me like "what's with this kid's computer? it must be bad."  So, it's really ridiculous how little is being done about this... Read more

I have a Lenovo Edge 15 80H10004US. It is roughly five months old. Recently I noticed that the battery has a red X on it and though it's reported as plugged in, charging, it never takes a charge. If I disconnect the AC power the laptop will turn off in one to two seconds. I have read several similar issues with older models but not mine. The recommendations that seem similar include taking actions such as removing batter which is not possible (as far as I am aware with out voiding the warranty), powering off the system as a Hard Reset and uninstalling the ACPI battery drivers. All of these steps have not resolved my issue. The Energy Manager lists the battery as unauthorized and tells me to get it replaced.  I'd like to get some recommendations about fixes, other than sending it to Lenovo or having the Geek Squad repair it (it was purchased from Best Buy). Please let me know what other information you might need to assist me.

Answer:Lenovo Edge 15 Battery Unauthorized Error

The Red cross usually appears when the battery has failed.

If you already tried the hard reset and the drivers update, then there doesn't seem to be much that you can do.
Get it repaired from Lenovo while you are still in warranty, that would be my suggestion.

Occasionally, I am getting this error "0190 critical low-battery". I am not sure how to replicate the error, but it only happens when I leave the laptop to fully charge. It doesn't happen every time I fully charge my laptop, but most of the times. I am sure that it is not the new bios that causes this because I had encountered it before the bios upgrade. It seems to occur when I leaving my laptop hibernated to fully charge. To resolve I have to plug in the AC adaptor once.On top of that I am already experiencing the "can't wake from sleep" problem with the new bios making my laptop highly unreliable  Please advise Petros Sampatakos

Hi everyone, hope you can help me out with this issue I am having.  I bought a new X230 a couple weeks ago along with the additional 6 cell slice battery. However, I have been having a problem.  When the slice battery runs out the system won't go into sleep; instead when I close the lid on the laptop it turns off completely and when I reboot it all of the programs / app have closed.  It's like the system has a hard power off when that happens. When I reboot, I get this message that says: "Battery 2: There is an error."  Clicking on the replacement options links goes to a 404 page.  (Thanks Lenovo!)  http://screencast.com/t/LLlmqaQ1NJ5k Looking in the Lenovo Solution Center in these cases the secondary battery is listed as "not available".  http://screencast.com/t/PlYdomKZU Anything I should try or should I be getting a new battery from Lenovo?  Is this a common problem?

Answer:Lenovo X230 Slice battery error and problems

Hey there!

Can you tell us what model (machine type) of X230 do you have and what operating system it is running? The machine type can be found on a sticker on the bottom of the unit. This will help me assit you with the errors you are recieving.

Also, have you checked your power manager settings? It is possible to have a PM setting to turn the laptop off when the lid is closed and/or when the slice battery dies.

I have a T440 that is giving a fan error message and then shuts off immediately. And, of course it just went out of warranty last month! Any ideas as how to fix?

Answer:T440 giving Fan Error

It is a pain that it just went out of warranty. That seems early for a fan to die. I don't know how handy you are about doing things yourself. You just need a screwdriver, but some people are comfortable doing things like that and some are not. I am assuming the problem is the fan itself, because the only other part involved is the motherboard which is a much bigger issue. I would say that in 90% of cases it is the fan itself. The fan can be accessed by removing the bottom cover. The fan can then be removed and replaced. On newer machines, I always suggest a new fan, as opposed to a used one, which should come pre-pasted. Here is a link to the service manual. See what you think:https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/t440_hmm_en_sp40a26000_01.pdf

A while back, we discovered the battery maintenance error, where the "stop charging at 90%" feature would cause the battery to only charge partially to like 50% but read that it was fully charged, and then it would turn off early. This was the thread. I know it's a BIOS issue, and I will update eventually, but the partial charge happened to me again, and it got me thinking: Do I really need the Power Manager? I use the Power Manager to configure Turbo Boost clock speed and all that, and I suppose the Turbo+ button does crank up the fan, but I can use TPFancontrol to manually control the fan, and I found that Windows power settings by itself allows me to set the clock speed however I want, using a percentage. Setting all the numbers at 45% parks the clockspeed at 1.2GHz, a good compromise for battery life and performance. The best Power Manager can do is to cycle between 700Mhz all the way up to 2.7Ghz, which throws battery life out the window. So, will I lose anything by just uninstalling Power Manager?

Answer:Life without Lenovo Power Manager: Any thoughts? [battery issue, charging error]

Technically the answer is no, Power Manager is optional.  However, it is a good option for Windows 7 users. It does expose more power management to the user than the power settings under Control panel. Until they release the Windows 8 version and I run it for a few weeks, I won't know what to say about that environment.

I have a T440 that just started giving errors when connected to an external AC power supply.  When an AC power supply is connected and batteries are installed, I get an error message every few seconds that matches the one described int he KB article "ThinkPad T440p / T540p screen flicker, brightness changing or switching to airplane mode while on AC."  It looks like this:The screen becomes dim when this error comes up and the batteries stop charging.  The screen then becomes brighter again and the same error comes up. The cycle lasts a few seconds and repeats.Essentially the system seems to think the AC supply is being connected and disconnected over and over.   I do not use a dock.I have tried 3 different AC adapters (PNs 45N0358, 45N0312, and 45N0482), multiple different wall receptacles, and also tried connecting to a docking station, all with the same results.  When no AC power is connected (running off of batteries only) everything runs normally.  When both batteries are removed (running off of AC power only) everything runs normally.  The issue only occurs when one or both batteries are in the computer and trying to charge. The fact that I get the same issue when connecting to a docking station rather than the normal external AC power supply, combined with the fact that it runs fine off of AC when batteries are removed, makes me think this is not a simple connection issue with the power jack or power connector.Any input would be mu... Answer:T440 gives AC power error when batteries are present

This is a known issue. The fix is to install the latest version of Power Manager and add the registry file described at https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-W-Series-Laptops/W540-charging-bug-WiFi-OFF-no-charge/m-p/1498... You may also want to read https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkVantage-Technologies/Power-Manager-Problem-With-quot-Enable-auto-d...I agree that this is not intuitive at all because the error message blames the dock rather than explaining that it is related to an Airplane Mode setting in Power Manager.

Some of the solutions I tried (and did not work) are: Reinstalling Lenovo Power ManagerUninstalling  Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method BatteryRemoving the battery and putting it back in  As it stands, the battery menu says "Plugged in, not charging" and is stuck at 84%.  If anyone could give me other ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. I am assuming it's not a hardware issue as the battery is brand new and was working just fine a few days ago.

Answer:Brand New T430s: A battery error has occurred. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery.

Not sure if there's any known quirks with that combination of hardware and software, but it sounds to me like the battery had a spontaneous failure, in which case you should just get it replaced under warranty.

My battery (FRU: 42t4957) is stuck at 2% and refuses to charge:I kept it at 40-50% most of the time by changing battery threshold. Total cycle count was about 80 (84 now) first use date 2013-03.On Saturday I tried to run a "discharge-charge-discharge-charge" cycle (by watching some movies) to reset the gauge of my battery. During 2nd discharge my laptop hibernated due to low charge much earlier than expected, when I turned it on it showed that the max capacity is 28 Wh and the battery is in the "poor" condition.I tried to perform automatic gauge reset but didn't get much (29 Wh). I updated power manager and performed another automatic reset which failed too.So I tried to make a manual reset and left my laptop paying a movie for a night. On Monday I plugged my AC adapter in but found out that the battery won't charge: "a battery error has occurred the battery cannot be charged".I cleared residual capacitance by pushing the power button several times and reset the BIOS to defaults but got nothing. If this problem can't be sold I would like to know the reason of it to avoid such things in the future. While googling this forum I met contradictory opinions on battery reset: ones say that it's extremely harmful because battery "doesn't like" to be discharged to 0%, others say its harmless.

Hello wonderful Lenovo user's and guru's! I have recieved a Lenovo Ideapad y550 from a pawn shop. I grabbed it because I knew this was a pretty good computer. I thought I could fix any problems it has and it would be just fine. =] So this laptop shuts down instantly if I unplug the power cord. Just dies, no time to do any saving or lights to blink. Just instant shutdown. Also when I try to power it on when its unplugged from the AC, it does nothing. Also shuts off in the middle of playing guild wars 2. No other games shut off on me. When I realized I had this problem, I ordered a new battery for my model of laptop. The new battery is doing the exact same thing as the other battery that was in it. It seems the computer has a fresh install of windows except with a .old folder in the C drive. So I am guessing someone did some sort of reformat or recover? the recovery was done through the Pawn Shop. It seems that it has windows 7 64 bit.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad y550: shuts down when unplugged, wont start on battery. new battery did nothing.

Hi everyone! Two days ago I've got a problem with my Lenovo S10-2 IdeaPad. The problem is that battery suddenly stopped working. When I'm trying to start my netbook just on battery nothing happens. No led lights, no fan sound, nothing. When I plug in AC adapter battery led light turns on for a moment on orange, then chanes to white and holds for 6 seconds, then blinks and holds white for other 6 seconds, then again for the third time and then turns off completely. When I press power on button with AC adapter pluged it and net book starts to boot, blinking with the same intervals for 3 times repeats.  My Windows XP shows seeing the battery, it shows 69% but I have suspicion that it isn't charging, cuz 2 days ago it was about 72%. I've googled for similar problems, tried to disable and uninstall Battery ACPI-compatible Microsoft manager. I tried to plug out AC adapter and battery and hold power button for 30 seconds, nothing helps. Any ideas that could help? They would be very much appreciated.

When running the Y580 on battery, the gpu is supposed to clock down to 405mhz core.
Nvidia designed the GTX660m and GT650m to run at 405mhz on battery.

However, after several minutes, the gpu throttles down from 405 to 135mhz, which is the 2D idle clock speed, and the whole computer gets extremely laggy, like it's out of memory (but it's not)

Take a look at the GPU-z monitor attached below. See how the graph looks like sawtooth after a solid block of red? It slams down to 135mhz every few seconds after initially running at 405mhz for about 1 minute.

In Power Options, my cpu is set to run at 1%, so that means I have it locked at 1200mhz while on battery.

I have the cpu set at the lowest voltage, and the gpu is running at 50% of max. This should not consume very many watts.

Lenovo staff: can you submit this bug for testing ?

If you have the Y580 for testing, you can duplicate my issue by running Heaven benchmark, or Furmark, and have gpu-z monitoring the clock speed, like I have below.
You should see the throttling after several minutes when running on battery.

I contacted Nvidia, and they said the gpu should not be behaving this way. Something might be wrong with the bios or vbios or something.

When I use Nvidia Inspector, I can force it to hold 405mhz core clock, and it appears to run OK; no crashes or anything.
It is only when I put the computer on autopilot that it throttles down to 135mhz.

I tested this ... Read more

I just received a lenovo y550 in the mail (11/30/2009) not too long ago, and the first thing that I noticed is that the laptop won't stay on without the ac adaptor plugged in. Right when the power jack is removed from the computer, the CPU completely shuts down and stays dead.  I also noticed that the power indicator on the lower right is stuck at 84% available (plugged in, not charging). I charged the computer for over 10 hours, and the number is still the same. All in all, I'm pretty sure that the battery is the problem here. I looked all over Lenovo's page for a customer support number but I couldn't find it. ADMIN, if you're reading this, I would like to have a Lenovo Y550 battery replacement sent to me. I have the invoice #, payment/order history, etcetera for my order. Please let me know. Thanks

Answer:Lenovo Y550- Brand new, Battery doesn't charge (stuck at 84%). Need new battery.

The battery status toggles between not charging, not used, and unauthorized battery after it was calibrated using one key. Before that, the battery was working perfectly, lasting close to 5 hours. Now the laptop shuts off when unplugged and the battery status is constantly changing. I've had this laptop for approximately a year now and it was unused and left in an unopened box for the first 8 months.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 500: battery status toggles between not charging, not used, and unauthorized battery

Hi, Denkendale ?

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Do this test -

1) Switch off the laptop.
2) Disconnect power supply. Keep the battery connected.
3) Try to Turn ON the laptop.

If the laptop does not turn ON, the battery is faulty.

Also, Try turning the laptop off, removing the battery, unplug the AC adapter, press and hold the power button for thirty seconds, install the battery back into the laptop but don't connect the power cable and try to start the laptop on battery power.

Update us how it goes.

Battery Issue - Lenovo V570 (Laptop) - Battery Model L09S6Y02

First off I for the most part do not use the battery. It is normally detached from the laptop. I only attach it to periodically charge it and test prior existing charges' performance.

O.K. here is the problem. I attach battery attachment, computer does not make it to the window screen more often than not. When it does, it freezes at the please wait loading screen.

I rarely use the battery at all, but I want all my equipment up and functional. It's life should still be good for I periodically recharge it. I think since I've had the laptop I've only recharged it a total of 6 or 7 times and that's been a year or so.

I, for the moment at least have the battery working power adapter attached. What did I do? I uninstalled Avast (freeware version) ?

I learned from prior experience that running two of any system utility software can cause problems, but it normally restricts itself to what it is protecting. Then I remembered: "If you remove the possible whatever is left however in probable must be the truth."

Next phase of testing is test the battery on it's own.

I am facing the below given 2 problems with the battery of a brand new lenovo U41-70 i5 Red model.

1. The plugged in but not charging error. Some suggestions in the web ask the user to remove the battery and change some stuff in the device drivers, but in my model the battery is not removable.

2. The battery dissipates a lot of charge while in complete switched off mode (not in sleep, nor hibernated). I have also disabled the windows fast boot mode from the power options, but doesn't work.
To give an estimate, in approximately 9 hours of shutdown (and the charging removed) the battery dissipates from a full 100 to 70%.

Note: I have updated the laptop which came with Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. Hence, the system is running on windows 10 now. The laptop is 10 days old.

Despite the manufacturer's claim of 7 hours battery life on my Lenovo Ideapad 320S-14IKB - 81BN (S/N: MP1CHQTJ), I only get around 3-4 hours. This is with light usage, Reddit, a little bit of youtube etc. CPU usage was mostly around 0-5% the entire time. This was with the max CPU state in power settings reduced from 100% to 85%. However, I do have the screen at 100% brightness. As a different test, I tried doing (almost) nothing (apart from keeping the screen bright), and got 6 hours out of the battery. Is there a simple solution to increase this? It's only a 30 Wh battery (2 cell). Maybe in the future, a 60 Wh (4 cell?) one will come out for this model?

I use my lenovo z570 laptop always in AC power, so i choose "best battery health" option in lenovo Energy management. When it charge upto 50% it says "50% charge availble not charging". Does it mean my battery is not charged and my laptop does not use the power from battery? if it use power from battery again, i should see the decrease in charge available and charging indication. I feel that after 50%charge the battery is not used and laptop gets power from AC adapter itself, Am i correct? and only if this is true it is safe for the battery otherwise there will still be some discharge and charge cycles in battery that will eventually reduce battery life.  My config: Lenovo ideapad z570, intel core i5 2430 2nd gen processor, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 750GB HDD (5400rpm), 2GB Nvidia GT540M GPU, windows 7 ultimate 64bit, 6cell battery.

Answer:Lenovo z570 battery usage under "Best battery health" how safe it is?

hi there! Its only preserving battery life, not using 100 percent of battery;s potential. You can adjust this according to usage, accordingly. Remove battery and AC adaptor and keep the power button held down for atleast 15 secondsin order to flush out all static. Check if energy power management is updated and reset battery meter.    Regards, fiesta

Answer:E545 no longer thinks its battery is a lenovo authorized battery

Hi lanTT,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!

Try this, can you please perform the following steps.

Remove the Battery from your laptop and boot up with the AC adapter connected.
Uninstall the Energy manager application via Control panel.
Restart your machine (just to be on the safe side)
Once logged in launch "Device Manager"
Under the "Batteries" category right-click and "Uninstall" the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery ONLY!
Shutdown the laptop and take out the AC adapter and re-insert your battery
Plug in the AC adapter once again and start up your machine.

Once you've logged in, in the bottom right-hand corner (the system tray) hover your mouse over the Battery icon. It should then say something like "Plugged in, Charging"

Please let us know, whether the above steps helped you.
Thank you, have a good day.

Hello All, I'll try to keep it brief. I recently purchased a B560 system and noticed the Battery Indicator (located on the left side palmrest) is flashing orange constantly. In addition to this, the Windows Battery Icon (on the system tray) is indicating that the battery is not charging at all. I've done some basic troubleshooting: Rebooting the system. Removed the battery, reseated it. Unplugged the system from the power connector etc. and the system still indicates the battery isn't charging. More details:The system was manufactured March 03, 2011 and purchased new from on Bestbuy May, 2011.Windows 7 64bit, recently upgraded to SP1, no other issues to report

Hi There! Some Questions:1) Is the CPU of the Z510 on a socket so I could upgrade it?I saw a dissambling video, that looked like you could do that. And if one can do that: If you place a i7 on that board will the cooler be strong enough and is the battery able to keep up with the power needed from that i7?And if I'd go totally crazy and replace the i5 4200, upgrade that thing to 16gb ram and change the hard drive to an ssd: Will the battery just vaporize? Ever since yesterday I've had this problem, I tried several solutions and none of them worked. Basically the problem is: The laptop only works on battery now. When the battery is at 0% the laptop turns off even if the AC is plugged in. To make matters worse, when the laptop is on I get this message "plugged, not charging". So basically the AC no longer works by itself and only charges the battery when the laptop is off. Here is what I tried so far:- Changing the settings on the Lenovo Energy Mangement tool- Uninstalling the Lenovo Energy Mangement tool - Taking off the battery and AC, pushing the power button for 30 seconds, putting them back in and turning on the laptop.- Starting the laptop on safe mode- Praying to God None of these things worked. Somebody help.

I recently purchased an x230 and everything is perfect but the battery fit.  It moves up and down slightly.  I know there are many posts in the lenovo forums for all different models that the battery fits lose in "x" model and solutions of putting paper / foam / tape to make the battery fit tighter.   What I'm wondering is if anyone has actually had the problem fixed by lenovo.  I've read a few posts where a user has had the base piece of the case replaced (where the battery fit's into) and that has solved the problem.  I'm still within my return period on my x230 and am awaiting a call back from tech support to see if there is anything they will do but I don't think I will keep it if they can't fix it.   I'm just curious has anyone actually had luck by replacing the base piece.  From what i've read a replacement battery hasn't worked for anyone.  Also, I know everyone says its by design for thermal purposes but I haven't actually seen any official confirmation of this from lenovo.   Thanks.

Answer:Battery Loose / Battery wiggle in x230 and LENOVO ...

As a follow up, I'm just curious if this is a widespread issue?  Anyone have loose battery in their x230 / x220?  I'm not talking about it falling out...but just a few millimeters of wiggle room.  Basically when i pick mine up or place it down, I can feel / hear the battery move.  I'm just trying to get an idea if this is a real problem or thats just how every thinkpad is.  I called support and they are sending someone to replace the base panel and we'll see if that fixes it.  I'll update this post when it get's replaced.   Edit* I also asked the lenovo support rep if they had heard of this issue and they said no, never.  I don't see how this is possible as if you do a google search for thinkpad loose battery there are many results.
