Preferred Solution: Computer powers on but screen won't turn on

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My HP All In One screen won't turn on. The power button's light comes and the AC adapter port light comes on. I've taken the back off to see if the fans worked, and they do, but the screen won't come on. I've detached all USB devices (mouse, keyboard, etc) and I emptied the CD ROM, to restart the computer. Didn't work. What can I do? Also, I noticed that when I pressed the caps lock on my keyboard the caps light doesn't come on. Help me please.

Answer:My Laptop Screen Wont Turn On But It Powers Up

Have you tried connecting an external monitor (how to is in your manual)?

It may well be a component failure like an inverter board since you 'crashed' when it first happened.

Hi,

Initially the fan was running on even after i turned the laptop off so i manually switched it off and then when i turned on the PC, the second light from the left comes on and i can hear the fan start but then within 2 sec the fan stops running and the light goes as well.. Tried the basic methods but with no luck. Can someone please help me here. Already spent a lot of money on this laptop and still getting problems on a daily basis.

Much thanks,

Don't know if I'm posting in the right area but I'm going to anyway,I shut my computer down after being on for a week. I went to turn it on the next day but it will not show a loading screen or any boot up. The fan comes on but i don't hear any beeps from the hard drive. I cant remember if it beeped before, i think it did. But there is just a blank screen.I tested with another monitor and no luck, also tried pulling out the video card and no luck. Tried swapping hdd's, no luck.My power supply recently blew, it was a 400w , so i got another one... 530w. Don't know if this will make a diff. but yeah.Any suggestions, thanks.

Answer:Computer powers, no screen.

Maybe something other than the power supply itself caused the power supply to blow... Maybe the new supply is blown as well ( partialy ) with a low 3.3V, 5V, or 12V etc.I'd swap power supplies if you have a spare or buy a cheap POST Diagnostics card to point out the error further such as this card....http://www.pcconnection.com/IPA/Shop/Product/Detail.htm?sku=195001I have this card and it is perfect for pinpointing issues that dont point you in a direction as to the true problem, when there could be almost any problem that is not straight forward at this point. Some top end motherboards come with this integrated into them as a bonus feature such as my A-Bit Fatal1ty motherboard. You could be looking at a Motherboard shot ( it will likely point out the probelm on the motherboard with what is not initializing or in a hung state ), CPU shot, power supply ( low voltage conditon ), and on and on.... This would point out the issue further.

When I try to power on my Lenovo R61i, the screen shows a Thinkpad screen for a second, then it powers off.I cannot get it to behave in any other way.I have taken the battery out, tried to power on just on mains, but still it does not power on.Has anyone come across this problem before? Thanks

Answer:R61i Powers on - Shows Thinkpad Screen - Powers Off

Hi pvrms90,Welcome to the forum!Try the following:-1.) Unplug the power cord and the battery.2.) Press the 'Power' Button 10 times repeatedly.3.) Then hold the 'Power' Button down for 25 seconds.4.) Put the battery back in and plug the power cord back in.If it shows no sign of life then try removing the RAM and HDD one at a time to diagnose if it boots or throws any errors. If no go then maybe it's the motherboard that needs to be replaced.Hope it helps.

Hi guys its been years since I been on here but I am stumped.
I bought a "new" motherboard a socket 478 to replace my older 478.
My processor is a Celeron D 3.06 ghz
Ram: 512mb
video card: FX-5200 128mb?

both boards are pretty old fsb 533 and 1.1 usb...yeah..

This computer are parts from my closet and really want it to work, except the board I bought because I thought that was the problem.

newer board
AOPEN AX45-533

older
p4vxad+

When I put the computer together I got both of the boards to power on but no screen posting or anything.
I took out the memory same thing
Took out the video card, same thing
Now I put in a dead P4 processor and that got hot but same thing(powers but no screen), that was weird because the Celeron D that works I put in was cold.

Now this got me thinking, maybe these boards are so old they don't support a Celeron D and maybe I have to buy a old pentium 4. could this be the problem?

My PC was on all night last night. This morning, it had a BSOD.The thing told me to restart the PC, and when I do, it seems to be loading up and then all of a sudden, the screen goes blank and the case starts making quiet noises..."rev rev rev rev" pause"rev rev rev rev"Is that my hard drive dying? This is the first BSOD on this computer. It is running XP SP2.I believe the BSOD error mentioned something about a kernel, but I cannot remember exactly what and I now cannot reproduce the screen.EEK.Help?Thanks

Answer:Computer powers on with a blank screen

I suspect a hard drive problem but if the machine is out of warranty, can you open the case and attempt to pinpoint where the noise is coming from?

My customer got an email from a known contact that said "The entire mail is not able to be displayed. To see the full message click here:" He clicked the link and a message popped up saying that his computer has a virus and to call a number to resolve it. He called and the person identified themselves as representing Microsoft and proceeded to gain access to his PC. He was told that if he hung up his PC would become useless. He hung up and now his PC is useless. I tried resetting his BIOS by accessing the motherboard, removing the CMOS battery, and then reorienting the jumpers (2 jumpers/3 pair of pins) right next to the CMOS battery. I was just guessing about the jumpers, but the net result was that I was able to get something to appear on the screen, but then I got a WDF_VIOLATION. I also tried resetting the BIOS by tapping the F10 key for 8 seconds, pressing the down arrow twice, and then pressing the Enter key twice. It seemed to work at first, but then in the end I was still left with no display at boot. I also tried doing a factory reset which started off with promise, but now I'm left with the power up - no screen scenario and no combination of buttons/power up combos seems to do anything.  I would like to have a manual for this motherboard and instructions on how to reset everything that can be reset via the mobo jumpers. Regards,Wayniack

I turn on my computer. Gets the Windows XP black loading screen (with the blue loading bar). That fades out, then the computer physically powers off. The power button on the front of the computer does nothing, however if I turn off and on my Power Supply's switch, it starts up again.I can boot into Safe Mode just fine. If I uninstall my Video Card drivers while in Safe Mode, then reboot, my computer boots just fine (but low resolution). I can then re-install my Video Card drivers, adjust settings (Resolution, Digital Vibrance and Gamma), reboot and it comes up fine again. My computer will then run for days until the next time I reboot it, and this all starts over again.Any thoughts?

Answer:Computer powers on but screen is blank

Problem Solved

Hi, i have solved the problem with my computer.I discovered that it was indeed the motherboard that was faulty.Even though i tried some of the suggested methods of troubleshooting, they were ineffective.I heard beeps when i took out my ram from my computer,so i guess that method of determining the motherboard is fine is not always right.Yes i now have a newer and better motherboard.

Hi, im new to the site, but im NOT new to computers, recently i had a problem with my custom built computer.
when i was surfing the web my computer just randomly shut off, i thought it crashed, so i just rebooted it, it got to the 1st screen where the CMOS information was, and it cut off, so, i let it rest for a little while and tried it again, it got to the password screen in vista but it cut off as well.

is it a PSU problem?
is there something wrong with my hardware?
is it shorted out?

the shorter i wait the quicker it cuts off, but, the longer i wait and turnit on, the longerit takes for the computer to turn off.....as any geek would say, wow, this is strange....

thanks in advance,
Dirge

I have Dell Dimension 2400 with 2G of Crucial Memory. It is running XP Home edition. It had run updates and was powering off but got stuck for over 24 hours without successfully powering down. I did a hard powerdown by holding the power button until it shut off. When I tried to restart the computer it will power on for a second, power off for 2 to 3 seconds and then power on. No image is sent to the monitor and I do not know if Windows is booting. Checking the monitor it says it is in sleep mode and press any key to wake it up. Pressing any key does nothing. Hooking my laptop to the monitor, it works fine. Could it be the video card or a short? Or could it be a virus?

Answer:Computer powers up, turns off, powers on, no image.

Boot off of the Windows Disc Or download the Recovery Console ISO. Burn it to CD with IMGBurn Boot off of the CD and get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter. Disk Check Outside Windows (Windows XP) The Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors.
You can also download the ISO image for Seatools, or WD DataLifeGuardin my signature and burn the image to a CD using IMGBurn also in my signature and boot off of the newly created CD and run the Quick and Advanced tests on the HDD to test the integrity of the drive.

I have an Acer Veriton M460, I recently replaced the motherboard on it. plugged everything in and then plugged the power in. It immediately started running. The fan for the processor and power supply started to spin but I never had to push the power button on the front. When I look at the button the light never lit up and when I would push the button it wouldnt do anything. When I held the power button in, it wouldnt shut down the computer. To shut it down I would have to pull the plug. Now whenever it would turn itself on automatically, I never heard any beeps or anything, the fans would just start running. So I disconnected everything that wasnt esential, USB's etc plugged it in, still the same thing, unplugged the power button same thing. I pulled that motherboard out and stuck the old one in, *which would work sometimes but not all the time I at least would get some beeps* and the exact same thing happened. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

Answer:Computer automatically powers on but never actually powers on

Make sure you have the 4-pin 12 volt power supply connector connected near the CPU socket on the motherboards. Also, make sure you are not shorting out the motherboards to the case

So I've looked around for possible solutions to my problem.

My problem is I turn on my PC and I see a green led for my Motherboard power. The fans spin for just a second then stop, and no boot.

I've disconnected every component except the heatsink, cpu and fan.

I've tried resetting the CMOS by changing the jumper settings. No good.

I've tried switching the memory around. Nothing.

I've now taken the motherboard battery out and will re-insert it after this post is finished.

If that doesn't work I fear I'm running out of options.

I tried the PSU in another PC and it was fine. So I know it's not the PSU. I tried the OTHER PCs ORIGINAL PSU and that did gave the same problem.

I've read up on a couple of articles about shorting out the motherboard or power supply or something as a solution.

Is this true? It sounds more destructive than creative.

If anyone has any advice or suggestions I would really appreciate it.

This PC is extremely new. Literally half a year old. It has a BFG 850w PSU, an ASUS M8 Motherboard w/ an Athlon Dual Core Phenom 3.2GHz

It has built in SLI with two Nvidia GTX 260s

Two 1gb HDDs

it has about 5 fans including two graphics card fans.

it has 4gb of DDR2 ram.

PLEASE HELP

I am installing a new mobo ( Shuttle AK35tgr2) after a series of problems with my former Soltek board which culminated with a problem in which the computer powers up and then powers down after about a nano second.

Well I'm having the same problem with the Shuttle.

First the problem was no video and no beeps from bios and in the process of trying to solve that I readjusted by CPU fan ( actually turned it around) and after that the computer powers up for a second then powers down.

I tried tightening the mobo screws and then it powered up for two or three seconds before shutting off.

I am thinking of changing the fan. It is about the only component that isn't new or hasn't been tested.

Here's the deal:My mom gave me her old computer when it was about 2 years old. it was working fine except that sometime the screen wouldn't come on when you started up the computer. the lights and fan would start running and then the fan would turn off and the computer screen would stay black. well usually you could just wait a few minutes and it would start on it's own, now it won't turn on at all! the start light around the start button will come on and then fan will start like normal but before the screen will come on the fan will turn off and the screen will stay completely black but the start light will still be on. i have left it on for an entire day and still nothing. i really can't wipe the whole computer out because i have important information on it. i desperately need help. I am not good with fixing things and need to get my computer running before finals. i can get additional info if needed.any help would be amazing. Thanks.

Answer:My computer screen won't turn on!

I am wedded to the idea that your power supply is on the bonkers . There seems to be insufficient  power to the motherboard hence not enough to drive the display card. The lack of proper voltages result in the CPU resetting itself to off- mode hence stopping the fan and power supply. Much about the PC is diagnosis - sometimes right sometimes wrong - and swapping hardware that you know is good. Just borrow a good power supply and see what happens. While you're at it , take a peek at the capacitors on the motherboard...see if all the tops are flat...bulges will spell a headache !

also, my keyboard doesnt light up, and my mouse (which is connected THROUGH the keyboard) turns half on (the wheel lights up, but the image doesnt light up). so i know there is electricity running through my keyboard.

can anyone explain/help me with this scenario? i've been trying at it for a couple of days now.
any sort of advise would be great (if you need any other info ill be more than welcome to provide anything to help you help me)

Answer:I can't get my computer screen to turn on, please help

Sounds to me like some kind of hardware failure. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what, but I would be inclined to say some type of Motherboard problem. If the fans spin up & devices get partial power.

Are you handy and comfortable working inside a computer? If not you might see what a technician can do with it.

I just got this HP pavilion 762n last year. Now whenever I turn the computer on it won't respond(Goes to a Blank Black Screen) and the only way I can make the computer respond is to go to safe mode and UN-install the Graphic Card, then restart the computer back again. Once I've done that the computer would work, but I can't watch Videos or play Video Games on the computer. There also would be these little blue lines on the computer screen (Sometimes their would be alot of the lines and sometimes the lines would be made by the trail of my mouse).

I've tried lots of ways to fix the computer. I've tried:

- Un-installing and re-installing my graphic card (Nvidia Geforce4 MX420 graphics card with TV-Out) that came with the computer.

- Rolling Back My Graphic Card.

- Updating My Drive from Windows Update.

- I've tried using a program that test my computer and tells me whats wrong with it. It said I got a problem with something like the VIDEO MEMORY CARD and I don't know what that is.

Is the Only way I can fix this is to buy another Graphic Card. I do not want to waste $200.00. Please Help Me!

Thank You.

Hi,

I am an IT professional (DHL Aviation)
I am supporting a user whom I advised to purchase Toshiba due to my very good experience with it.
Laptop is approx. 3yrs old - W7 Ultimate.

Problem: laptop doesn't boot up at all, screen remains dead, only powerlight and fan indicates it is working. No BIOS screen options, no Toshiba Welcome screen, nothing...

Laptop MOBO gets power. Power light is on when on AC power, on/off light works, middle light (icon unreadable) is orange, no other active lights.

Bottom fan start and continues to spin.

Actions taken so far:
1) remove all power and press power button for 30sec then reboot
2) reseated memory
3) replaced HDD
4) blew out fans (user is a smoker - machine now stinks like HELL)
5) tried booting a Fedora & Fuduntu liveDVD, starts to spin, but then stops spinning. No OS seems to be loaded into memory.

No change

Any help would be appreciated - many thanks in advance.

Sounds like motherboard problem? if the Toshiba splash screen does not appears, then this means thet POST (power on self-test) cannot proceeds and this means that this is an motherboard related issue?

I think that you will need to replace the mobo ;(

So I got a hp pavilion tx510us entertainment notebook (runs Vista) and it seems to turn on (like all the lights are on and it makes noises) but the screen is black/blank or whatever. And its not just a blank screen because then I would have been able to put my pass in and then hear the turn on music and stuff. The thing is this happened before when it was still under warranty so I sent it in for free and they sent it back and it turned on and it still had on all my stuff so it must have been an easy enough solution, but when I chatted with them again I guess they don't keep track of what they did to it and they want me to send it in again and that would cost a large sum of money because its no longer under warranty. I did a hard reset a few times and took out the memory module and put it back in agian but still nothing. So, anyone have any ideas?

ok, first that error code should have a bunch of numbers. Those numbers are important for looking up the actual cause of the error. USB BUGCODE seems, and I'm not sure of this, seems to indicate a possible error with a usb port or device. Do you have any usb devices plugged in when you try to boot up? You might try unplugging any one at a time for each boot up. Without the numbers I can only guess that a usb port has a problem. Hope this helps.

My computer that i own isn't working properly. Firstly, its about 4-5 years old the power button gets stuck. I've been fiddling with it from the outside to come out all the way since if it goes in all the way and doesnt come out, it keeps restarting. When i wiggle it out, it starts and goes.

Now onto my problem now. When i start up my computer, a screen pops up allowing me to press F1 for setup. if i don't click F1, my computer goes to a black screen with a _ blinking in the top right. I can't do anything from that point and when i press keys too many times, it starts beeping after i hit any key again.

Anyways if you guys could help me, I would be very thankful!

Answer:Turn on my computer, black screen

sounds like it may be time for an upgrade

have you made any hardware changes or installed new device drivers?

from what you describe it seems like the system is having some issues booting the operating system from the hard drive, or there could be another hardware fault causing the hangup... like the memory or motherboard itself. if you are able to view the POST screen upon startup (which displays all of the system information and keys to access BIOS etc...) then you may be able to boot from a CD-ROM to run repairs or possibly boot into safe mode by repeatedly striking the F8 key after the POST screen appears.

I recently put in an upgrade to my ram from 512 mb to 768 total Ram. I went to turn it on and I saw a spark where the P1 is at, and now the screen will not turn on, but my hard drive still turns on or runs? Did I short circuit my motherboard? could it be my video graphics card? any help on getting it back to working condition? thanks

Answer:My computer starts up but my screen will not turn on

Make sure you unplug mains lead after you shutdown. Remove the upgrade ram and try starting again. when you say "where the P1 is at" do you mean the power connector to the Mainboard?.

Could be a few things but i suspect you have blown a ram module or the PSU.

I just got this HP pavilion 762n last year. Now whenever I turn the computer on it won't respond and the only way I can make the computer respond is to go to safe mode and Un-install the Graphic Card, then restart the computer back again. Once I've done that the computer would work, but I can't watch videos or play video games and their would be these little blue lines on the computer screen (Sometimes their would be alot of the lines and sometimes the lines would be made by the trail of my mouse).

I've tried lots of ways to fix the computer. I've tried doing a destructive recovery lots of time and it still wouldnt work. I have this program that test my computer and tells me what kinda problem my computer have and it said that the computer fail on the video memory test. I think the only way I can fix this is to buy another graphic card. Can anyone please tell me how to fix this problem?

Thank You.

My computer was dusty and may have been overheating. The fans were operating very loudly and i tried to turn on the screen but it is black. I cleaned the dust, and it still will not bring anything up on the screen. The fans work and i can hear the drives working. I tried changing the psu, cleaning the heatsink, and reseating everything. and removed the battery and put it back in to reset the bios. Nothing has worked so far. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated? Is it possible that i fried my motherboard or processor?

Whenever I turn my computer on I get a black screen and it doesn't budge from there. My monitor just seems to go into sleep mode and I can't do anything. Also my dvd drive makes this horrible sound whenever I start up my computer so I swapped out the drive with another one I had around the house and it made the exact same noise. I even took out my hard drive to make sure that wasn't what was making the noise. I've never encountered such a strange problem before. I tested the optical drive in another computer and it doesn't make this noise. I just have no idea what could be causing it. Any suggestions?

GeForce 6800XT 256mb PCI-E
2 gigs of RAM
Windows XP Media Center Edition

Answer:Blank screen when I turn my computer on.

Since no one else will try this one I will have a go.

First if you have no picture, why are you playing with the dvd drive?

Graunching noises suggest fan problems. Either a fan is clogged up with dirt or catching on an internal cable or just wearing out. Check all these including your graphics card.

At best this is your problem and restarting the fan will restart your picture.

Next best option is the power supply failing, not providing proper power to dvd drive and graphics card. Check by substitution.

If this does not work you have cooked something, this could be any or all of, memory, processor, graphics card. Depending on the specs of your other pc you may be able to check these out, one at a time, by substitution.

Post the results and good luck

When I turn on my computer it shows nothing but a blank screen. Doesn't even go into bios 19 out of 20 times. Every now and then it boots into BIOS and begins loading Windows, but freezes at the loading screen. What could the problem be? A couple months earlier the computer would randomly shut down while I was using it. I'm assuming the problem might be the probably the power supply. It's an emachine t3624: http://emachines.com/support/product_support.html?cat=Desktops&subcat=T Series&model=T3624#

And yes, I know I really need to upgrade to a new computer... but I have absolutely no money I can put towards buying one at the moment. It would take me at least a couple months to be able to afford even a cheap one....

I turn on my computer, it begans to start up, and then the moniter just goes black and won't show the desktop or anything. It has done this every day for the past week or more and it's getting harder and harder to get onto the computer. What I do is turn the moniter on/off until it shows me a glimpse of the desktop, and then I mess with the screen saver power options (while it continues to keep going black and I have to turn the moniter on and off to get glimpes of what i'm doing), and eventually it just stops going black and works for the whole rest of the day until the next morning. I checked the FAQs and I heard people with the same situation mention video cards, but I'm not that great with computers and frankly I don't even know what that is. Help?

Hi,
I have a problem that started about a week ago. Every time I turn my computer on in the morning, when I turn it on a strange screen comes up. It's usually something that's trying to get me to download drivers or update adobe or something like that. The screen that showed up this morning was this: hxxp://static.thehumanallegiance.com

What is this? It seems like they always start with the word static in the address. Is it a virus and how do I get rid of it or get it to stop?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Answer:Strange screen comes up every morning when I turn my computer on

Looks like it could be a malicious Chrome extension.

You've posted in the wrong forum. This forum is only for discussing anti-virus software issues and things of that nature. Since it looks like you have an infection, please start a new thread in the Virus & Other Malware Removal forum and provide the logs requested in the sticky post at the top of that forum.

Also, please don't post live links that may be malicious. I've removed a section of it and made it unclickable.

i am using my laptop to report this.cause i can't use the one with the black screen.HELP!!!!!! when it first comes on its like it tries to start but just stays black.can it be fixed or do i have to buy a new screen?(i'm not sure if its called the screen or the monitor.i just know that when i turn the tower on,there is no picture .

Answer:black screen after i turn my tower to my other computer on.r

If you do not see the message "No Signal" on the monitor screen, very likely it's the monitor itself which is faulty or "dead".To check if it is indeed the monitor which needs replacing, connect it to your laptop if possible (there should be a VGA port on one side of your laptop so you can connect the monitor using the same VGA cable that connects monitor to your PC). If the monitor does not work on your laptop either, you need a new monitor. However, if your tower is not starting up it won't be a faulty monitor. There is something wrong inside the tower. Get someone to check it over, maybe needs a new PSU (Power Supply Unit) which fits inside the tower.Do not rush out to buy a new monitor if the tower is not starting up as the problem will be inside the tower.message edited by phil22

So a few weeks ago we had to have some viruses removed from our computer, and it seemed like it was working again. Today, when we went to turn it on, the screen would only turn on for about 30 seconds, and then it would go blank. You could still hear the computer running though. Then when we shut it down and tried to start it in safe mode, we weren't able to. It said something like "No support", but when we tried starting it how we usually do, it worked. Now it's working really slow, and the screen keeps on freezing.

Answer:Computer runs but the screen doesn't turn on

Hi -

Is it a laptop or desktop?

If laptop, try connecting an external monitor. A laptop here loses monitor a few seconds after boot due to a known hardware issue.

If desktop, try another cable +/or monitor.

HI,
My problem started back when i tried to install windows 7 on another disk, but it would not. Now i did this while my primary windows 7 hard drive was already istalled. after i gave up on trying to get windows to install onto this secondary hard drive, i rebooted the computer to find that my primary ssd would not load windows, and simple came to a black screen that said:

Remove disks or other media.
Press any key to restart

then i would press a key and it would say:

Reboot and select proper boot device
or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.

I have no recovery disk and most definitely do not understand what remove disks or other media means because I removed the windows installer dis and tried again but nothing happened. Please help, i am so confused, thankyou.

My wifes laptop has developed a problem. On booting it starts with the "Windows starting " logo and then goes to a black screen and goes no further. It looks like the hard drive is still flashing away giving the impression that underneath it is still working but no picture. We want to use the repair disc that came with the laptop but because we cant see anything to shut the computer down via windows we are having to use the power button and therefore it prompts to start up again in safe mode because it was shut down unusually. We want to close it down completely and let the repair disc do its work on boot up from fresh start. Because we cant see anything on the screen to initiate shut down via windows is there another way of shutting down completely for the above reasons.
Also do I need to press f2 and tell the system boot from the cd (repair disc) or can I leave settings as is and it will do it automatically. Answers appreciated asap. Many thanks

Answer:How else do I turn off windows when computer has black screen.

On many laptops pressing and releasing the on/off button acts as a re-set but if you hold the power button down for 5 to 10 seconds the machine will turn off completely.

Hi

My desktop keeps showing blue screens. Yesterday I was able to start it up and tried to restore to a previous point, but it wouldn't complete and gave a blue screen. Now I can't turn the computer on without a blue screen displaying. I've pulled out the old laptop to post this. So far I've copied down the info for three of them. They are as follows:

The first one I saw:
REGISTRY_ERROR
TECHNICAL INFO:
0x000000051 (0x0000000D, 0x00000001, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
Another blue screen displayed:
0x000000024 (0x00190203, 0x864401A8, 0x00000102, 0x00000000)
And the last one I saw:
0x000000024 (0x00190203, 0x86D79168, 0x00000102, 0x00000000)

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Michael

Answer:Blue screen everytime I turn on computer

Your STOP 24 error...indicates a problem with either a key system file, your partition/file structure, or your hard drive.

See 24 in left column at http://www.aumha.org/a/stop.htm .

The Stop 51 error is somewhat ambiguous, but...since part of the error message indicates a registry problem, I would believe that.

I've seen this problem posted a lot, but never with all of the same details as me.  I have Windows 8, but unsure if 64 or 32, I"m guessing 64.  I have a sealed battery, so I'm unable to remove the battery.   I rarely see my model number mentioned at all. I have turned the computer off and back on several times with peripherals removed.  Right now, it's on and open (so it's not asleep) and not plugged in.  All I can see and get is a black screen.  The caps light blinks now and again. I really would rather not reset and lose everthing, of course, who does?   What do I do?

i just built this computer i did everything try to put it to sleep or hibernate, the screen will turn off but the computer is still running, i've tried to enable hibernation option by turning it on in command center powercfg -h on. and i went to disk clean up the Hibernation File Cleaner is not there.

when it put powercfg a it saids "the following states are available standby "s1" hibernate"i also went to bios and the setting is on S1, i also disable the network adapter from waking the computer up. i've tried everything!!! please help!!

i have

Processor - AMD Anthlon ii x4 635

MotherBoard- msi 785gm-E51 (MS-7596)

Graphic Card - nvida geforce 9800 gtx+

ram- 4g ddr3 1600

System - windows 7 64 bit.

Thanks!!

Answer:computer can't hibernate or sleep, screen will turn off but cpu is on

It's likely a device or driver will be stopping the sleep state so what works for me is open "power options" from the control panel and set as balanced then go to change plan settings set turn off screen to never then sleep to something like 2 mins .........

now go to "change advanced power settings" and try wireless adapter in "medium power saving mode" then for sleep set hybrid sleep and hibernate to off, for USB settings "USB selective suspend" as enabled, power buttons and lid as your choice , PCI express as "moderate power settings"

It is also possible that a USB device such as bluetooth can be stopping sleep state so experiment with turning the device on or off or even unplugging while you test and make sure they are using the latest drivers ?

try that and see if if your PC will sleep, and for further debugging from an elevated cmd prompt run : powercfg -energy and note path output to system32 folder , view energy-report.html copy out of your system32 folder into an easy access folder or desktop then view in your browser for a detailed report ?

If you do get it to sleep you can go back to advanced and set hibernation on, using the hybrid sleep setting, and you can adjust your time and turn off display to your liking

let us know how it goes

when I try to load my computer, the computer loads but the monitor does not. I end up having to do a hard shut down and reload the computer then it usually works fine. I have tried a new cable and monitor but it does not fix the problem. I have checked the graphics card and it says it is working properly. I have run windows troubleshooter to check for errors but none are found. What could be causing this. I am running windows 10 but it was a windows 7 originally, the problem has been happening for a couple months now and i upgraded when windows 10 first came out so I don't think the upgrade is the problem either.

I turn the computer on and the fans start there are no beeps and the dvd opens and closes fine. I cannot enter bios at all.
The hp blue splash screen is on the monitor with three options F10 (setup) Esc (boot menu) and F11 (system recovery). When I shut it off and restart; while pressing the F10 the screen comes up saying it is entering setup, but never happens. Same with the Esc. F11 doesn't even pretend to work.
I do hope the team of Tim and friends can help. :banghead

Answer:i turn the computer on, but there is no beeps and i cannot get past the hp screen.

Re: i turn the computer on, but there is no beeps and i cannot get past the hp screen

First: Remove any media from the floppy drives, CD/DVD drives, USB ports, and memory card reader slots, and disconnect all non-essential devices (printers, scanners, external hard drives, and similar). Leave only the keyboard, mouse, and monitor connected to the computer.
Next press F10 repeatedly, even before the HP screen appears and see if you can get into the BIOS.

I was playing a game on my PC while it was storming out and the power surged. Before I could unplug my pc the power came back on and my computer started back up. After starting back up it said installing update do not turn off the computer. I waited until it was done then it brought me to a black screen with a Windows logo and a circular loading bar. I waited somewhere between 5-10minutes before holding down the power button until it turned off. Upon turning the computer back on all the fans would work and everything it would show the blue screen that says to press esc then brings me to a black screen where it would have a _ mark in the top left and beep non stop. It isnt a long beep or anything its just multiple beeps non stop until I turn it off. I have tried taking out the ram and putting it back in but it just keeps beeping. I did a mem test and it showed that nothin was wrong with the ram. The beeps are high pitched and very fast. I have a video showing what happens if there is a way to post it.

Hi,
I have a problem that started about a week ago. Every time I turn my computer on in the morning, when I turn it on a strange screen comes up. It's usually something that's trying to get me to download drivers or update adobe or something like that. The screen that showed up this morning was this: hxxp://static.thehumanallegiance.com

This is the info from the TSG SysInfo:

Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU B940 @ 2.00GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 42 Stepping 7

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @dukedevil74, Welcome to HP Forums! I have read your post and wanted to help. I understand that when you turn on the laptop, it loops at the HP logo screen. In order to better assist you, can you provide the product number of your laptop? If the computer locks up at the HP or Compaq logo screen or the Windows loading screen, try cleaning the computer vents with compressed air. Restart the computer. If Windows 10 opens, you are done. If Windows 10 does not open, go to Troubleshooting other issues with computer not starting. Let me know how it goes. If this helps you to reach a solution, please click the "Accept as Solution" button down below in this message. Hello, this is a long story and ill include as much detail so itll be a thorough diagnosis of what is going on with my laptop. So, the problem started early this summer, my computer was doing fine until one day it crashed. The first crashes were green and purple screens, I needed to turn the power off and on to restart it. The weird thing is that it just came out of the blue, there were no weird things going on before that. So after that day the crashes started to come more often. First it was 1 a day apart, then it was 2 days and the more often. It came to the point that every time I played a video game it crashed, but it was fine in the desktop. But then, after some days it started crashing in the desktop. So finally, I sent it off to repairs. It came back and there was only 1 check in the paper that stated what they repaired. It was "Windows Operating System reinstall". When I saw that I was pretty sure the problem was going to come back fairly soon. So, to my surprise, the computer worked fine for 4 days. And then the crashes started coming again. Frustrated (this is my 2nd alienware with problems and the 4 time Ive sent one to repair), I just put the laptop aside into the desktop, it wasnt connected to the power the entire time. So finally, today, I try to see how its doing. I connect the power and I try to turn it on, and its not turning on. Ive tried draining the remaining power by removing the battery and pressing the button. Ive tried turning it on without ... Read more

Answer:First white screen crash and now my computer doesnt turn on

Ordonuk mate hate to be the bearer of bad tidings but I had an individual earlier this week with very similar issues as you but the only difference was it was a new desktop that I had set up for him about six months ago.
The upshot was it would not boot even into safe mode and it was ending up with just a black screen or not turning one whatever I advised him to try and eventually he had to return it to Lenovo and the motherboard was bricked from what we don't know = power surge etc ? Maybe this has happened to your wayward machine?
Having said that I suppose you are getting power at the adaptor??

I want to leave my X1 Carbon (5th Gen) running overnight, but I also don't want the room glowing from the screen while I try to sleep. How can I turn off the screen completely? I can only get it to dim to about 10% brightness  but I want the screen completely off while the machine continues to run -- backing up, downloading large files, running long processes, etc. all things that I don't need to be looking at the screen for.  This is my first ThinkPad, and before I had a Macbook Air, which I could turn the screen off completely. Surely there must be a way to do it on the ThinkPad, no?

Hello, Im new to forums so please bare with me.
My problem started when i dropped my cellphone on my Envy m6 1160la. The screen froze and i started hearing a feint beeping sound. I left it like that for a while, since i could turn the leds on and off. After it failed to work again i turned it off only to turn it back on and be greeted with the same feint beeping sound and no hp logo or loading. After a while the phrase "Checking media" "fail" would come up twice and then a blue box that would say something and then turn off my computer. I changed the HDD and the beeping stopped but the same thing happened. I turned off secure mode but then it said i needed to install an OS and something about 3fo hardrive. I then tested both hardrives and the one that gives me a beeping sound approves the memory test but fails the dst short and long and the smart (dont know what this is), and the one without the beeping approves all. Now after all this I came ro the conclusion that me HDD was bad and that i had to install a new OS on another one (dont know if i was right) but since the HDD that wasnt beeping ran on win 7, I thought if i changed to legacy i would be able to boot up my computer. After i changed it it restarted and i could hear the HDD spinning and the fan and leds would turn on but the screen wouldnt and wont. Any help on my current and previous problem would be much appreciated.

Hi Guys,

I got a virus this morning and moved it to chest and then I restarted it, when it began to boot, it froze for about a minute at the boot screen then proceeded to load after this, so I shut it down and turned it back on and had to wait about a minute on the boot screen to get past it, it so I went into the bios and clicked the reset to optimized defaults incase it had a problem, so I saved it and exited.

The computer then booted it as it would do when i turn it on but now the screen stays black?

Anyone have any suggestions what to do? as its just black and I can't see anything to get into the bios or such?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Turn Computer On Screen Is Black After Bios Change?

Try unplugging the PC and removing the CMOS battery from the motherboard for 30-45 minutes. This will clear the BIOS settings.

Hope this helps.

While using the notebook, I realized there was no more sound so I went to a support site for troubleshooting. I changed the settings and restarted, but there was still no audio coming out. Suddenly the screen went dark and the LEDs on the keyboard dock became illuminated. Then they turned off and the computer has not turned on again. The charging port LED on the keyboard docking station still lights up when plugged in, but not the tablet, even when plugged in directly. No vibration, sound, or any lights when pressing the power button to boot up the tablet. What happened?

When i try to play World of Warcraft...havent tried other games... but every 10 or so times... on the 10th time i will go to play adn then my monitor just switches off and 30 seconds later the pc restarts...

Ive updated my nvidia drivers..

I have 2 SLI enabled geforce 7900gs with Monitor plugged to the 1st one.

Answer:Screen turn off then 30sec it restarts computer on a Game...

Has this problem just started? Were there any hardware changes made recently that may have caused this? For example, did you just add the other GPU in and then bridge them with the SLI?

I'm wondering if this may be a PSU problem. The PSU may not be powerful enough when the system is loaded up.

First time posting, and not very educated when it comes to computers so bear with me. My screen cracked today on my T430. It still had image on the screen but very distorted. I have a working backup T430. I pulled the screen out of the back up and put in my main comp. My main will boot up (you can even hear the windows jingle but the screen had no power. I then tested both the good screen and cracked screen on the backup T430 and both lit up fine. But neither screen will work on the main T430. i then switched the cable that goes from the motherboard to screen but still same situation, works fine on the back up but not main. I hooked it up to my TV through the HDMI cable and I get the display/homescreen on the TV, and I can use the laptop like that. One thing I did notice is that when I boot the laptop up or shut it down there is a very very very slight change in the screen darkeness. I only notice this because the sun was behind me and shining on the screen. When I noticed this it had the craked screen installed. I tried to adjust the screen brightness with the laptop running but it didnt change anything Do you guys/gurls have any input or solutions? Thanks in advanced

power light comes on but the screen remains black there is no sound nor any flickers please help operating hp 2000 dual core windows 7 thank you very much!

Answer:turn on the computer and power light goes on but screen remains black

If this is a notebook PC, try connecting an external monitor to the VGA port. If the display comes up on the external monitor, it points to an issue with the screen.

If there is no display on an external monitor connected to a notebook PC, it points to an issue with the motherboard and will require a professional diagnosis.

Hope this helps.

Hi. My HP 15 touch smart notebook crashed a few weeks ago and I just had the computer for less than 6 months and I still have at least 6 more months of warranty on it. But I had accidentally took the battery pack out while putting the computer on charge and I put it back in and tried to turn my computer on, and so far for the last several weeks I couldn't do my school work bc it won't turn on. There is no noise, the fan won't turn, the screen won't display. The only that works is the charging light (orange when its dead and is charging; white when its half charged and is charging). I have tried all methods to get it to turn back on and none have helped me so far. Is the only thing I can do is send it off to be repaired? Or do I need to just buy replacement parts?

Hello,

I tried searching this and found people with similar problems, but no clear solution. My netbook screen stopped working over the weekend. I'm actually writing this right now on the netbook connected to an external monitor. It came with Windows XP but I upgraded to Windows 7 a few months ago (whenever the RC trial version ran out.)

I don't think I did any Windows Updates or software installs prior to this problem (possibly microsoft security essentials update.) The screen appears to be lighting, but completely black. I checked in the device manager and it claims the generic plug and play monitor that represents the built in screen is operating just fine. I've used the function keys to try to disable and enable the screen, and while connected to the external monitor I've changed resolutions, as well as the behavior between the screens (duplicate, extend, etc) all to no avail. I'm pretty stumped here as to how this happened or what can be done.

My X1 Carbon just keeps powering on and off continuously and there is no way of stopping it. It first started with the screen having some funny, shimmering, short horizontal coloured lines during boot up. Then, the keyboard and power button just kept blinking on and off. At first, the power button would blink 3 times in quick succession and then power on and off. Eventually, the laptop would turn off totally. But, when I pressed the power button to start up again, it went into this crazy cycle again. I've tried turning the computer off by holding down the power button, but it doesn't work. The first few times, the laptop would eventually power off, but now, the laptop won't power off at all. The power button now blinks once only on powering up and then the entire laptop turns off, but immediately it would start up again, and the cycle just keeps repeating itself and I don't know how to stop it. The LCD screen remains blank and doesn't seem to switch on at all. Does anyone know how to fix this probelm so I can use my laptop again?

Answer:X1 Carbon 20A7-CTO1WW; Powers up and immediately powers off continuously; cannot be stopped

Good day and welcome to the community.

I've not previously heard of the symptoms you're describing. Frustrating, I'm sure.
You might want to try pressing the emergency reset button in the tiny hole on the underside of the machine with a straightened paperclip. (See page 7 of the user guide)

Hope this helps.

I have windows 7 on my PC.When I switch it on though I can hear sounds nothing comes on screen. Its black, though I can type my password. It means windows are already loaded. Now if I restart it screen comes live by showing the message that windows were not properly shut and then I can easily open it.I tried loading windows again, got the SMPS changed but problem remains.

Answer:PC powers up but nothing comes on screen for

I suggest you should 1--- check RAM with this program. 2--- Reseat gfx card and its power cable connector, if it uses one. 3--- Use UPS, if you do not have one already. 4--- If you use on-board NIC, disable it in BIOS and try again. In some cases, NIC and video card IRQs conflict causing no video on the monitor. If you shut down the PC forcefully using the button on the case, you get the "Windows was not properly shut down" message when you restart. Instead you should use reset button on the case if there is one.CoolGuy

Hello,

My hubby was surfing the internet when it suddenly restarted itself and went to a blue screen of death, then it went to the black screen that gave options to boot up in safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration, and start windows normally. No matter which you select it goes to windows icon and restarts again going to the blue screen:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or back up utilities. Check your hard drive configuration. and check for updated drivers. Run CHKDS /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical information:

The only other thing I can do is go to the First Bios set up utility
I went to tools and checked the Hard drive, it passed all three tests. So I know this much its not my hard drive. Other then that I can do nothing else with the computer, I even tried changing the order of booting but its stuck on hard drive it won't let me choose the other options. So I have a feeling that even if I find my Hard reboot cd's it won't work.

I have no idea what is wrong with my computer......

Here is the problem:

I am using Windows XP

Last night i used Norton Antivirus and did a full system scan it came up with no viruses. This morning i turned on my computer used AIM (AOL Instant Messanger) and talked to no one. Next I started to play Battlefield 1942 offline. As I am playing the game freezes and simultaniously makes a noise (this noise was not a beep it was like internal parts or something). I waited and the game started to work again about 10 seconds later the same thing happened (it freezing and making the noise) but this time it did not start working again it stayed frozen. So I hit the restart button on the outside of my computer and as its restarting it brings me to a screen that asks me how i would like to start the computer safe mode, last good known configuration, start windows normally, etc. After I have selected my choice the windows xp loading window comes up for about enough time for the loading bar to scroll across twice. For a split second a BLUE SCREEN then comes up and goes away. No matter what options I choose (safe mode, last best known configuration, or start windows normally, etc.) it will always try to load, go to blue screen, and start all over again.

If anything needs to be clarified plese let me know and i will clarify it.

Answer:My computer is stuck in a loop: turn on,boot screen, bluescreen, and then restarts!!!

The noise you heard may be an indication of an impending hard drive failure.
If you here clicking sounds coming from your hard drive it's about to go.

The constant boot loop may be fixable. I'm not advocating this fix just pointing it
out to you.
May someone else will come along with another solution.
