My HP laptop back cover is coming loose

Question: My HP laptop back cover is coming loose

I bought this laptop a year and a half ago and have been very careful with it, I've never dropped it, or taken it many places, but a few month ago I noticed the bottom right edge of the back over wasn't attached so I just popped it back in, it wasn't a big deal so I didn't worry about it. Then yesterday it popped back off again but this time it was much bigger and I couldn't pop it back in no matter how hard I tried! I took it to staples to see if they could fix it and the guy there said it would take 2-3 weeks and 300$ I can't afford that, and I just bought this laptop last year! Everything else about it still works fine, the screen isn't cracked, and the keys still work.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I want to access the keyboard to see if there is soda inside the computer. How do I remove the back cover without dealing damage? Second question, how do I remove the enter key? I got all the other keys off, but it won't come off.  Thanks in advance!

Looks like the clips for the bezel snapped.Should be entirely cosmetic damage; you can probably tape it back together or get a replacement bezel if you want.

Hello, I bought the T61 in 2008 with 3 year warranty in USA. My T61 is showing the loose hinge problem which has been encountered by many other forum users. Right now I'm in Chennai, India and the Lenovo warranty center in Alwarpet, Chennai says the hinge problem is not covered under warranty. Could any one from Lenovo confirm this for me. Thank you, Thaniks

Answer:T61 Loose Hinge - Does the warranty cover this issue?

Well i was once told that Lenovo don't cover hinge problem by the Lenovo service personnel, but then on my second attempt and through some coercion they said yes. Mark_Lenovo did mention that the loose hinge is within the normal repair parameter, while many people in the USA have the hinge problem repaired under warranty. This is the message that Mark_Lenovo sent me regarding the issue of hinge and warranty. ------------------------ The hinges should be covered under warranty.  Sometimes the staking of the pin inside the hinge fails - we have several designs - some are "D" shaped which can become rounded, and some are epoxied I believe.   It is also possible that the screws have loosened which hold the hinge to the LCD frame or to the chasis - the locktite did not hold.  If you are in warranty, I would expect us to cover this unless there were visible signs of abuse (like dent or abrasion from being dropped). ----------------------------

Hello, my laptop is not showing any sign of life when I opened it up just now, I always just close lid if I go away, then open it up when I go back to it, it usually comes right back on again, it is Samsung RV720, windows 7, never had this happen before, I pressed start button once, that did not work, tried holding it down to close it down as it was on when I left it, thought I could restart it, but nothing happens, any advice anyone? Thanks

Answer:laptop not coming back on after closing lid

Sometimes you need to press any key to wake it from sleep. You should have a light showing somewhere if sleeping. If no indication showing then the battery is dead (no charge) and it shuts down. Plug in the charger to boot up.

I need help with a Lenovo y410p.  I am trying to open it to change the hard drive.  The bottom cover is held in place by 8 machine screws.  The machine screws go through the compartment cover and into some threaded metal inserts and are sealed with blue locktite. Six of the screws came out,  but with two of them the metal inserts have just broken loose and are turning with the screw. The screws are not stripped.  They are just twisting the insert around.   This is one of the inserts that is not loose. Two others are rotating with the screw. What do I do?

Solved!

Answer:y410p compartment cover can't be removed. Screw insert is loose.

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

I am assuming that you were able to slide the cover forward, but the screw insert mounts are preventing the removal of the cover.  Correct ?    If so and it were my laptop I would select a drill bit slightly larger than the recess in the back cover that  the screw goes into.  Then carefully drill away the plastic on the cover until the recess with the screw is loose from the cover.  Once the two screw recesses are loose you should be able to remove the cover.  Upon reassembling, I would just cover the drilled out screw recesses with tape and screw the cover down with the remaining six screws.  Prior to reassembly I would double check to see that the two screws weren't laying loose inside.

If you are concerned about warranty...... best let Lenovo Support deal with the cover.  You can find the phone number for Lenovo Support in your country or area by using the link below....http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/supportphonelist_alt1

Hi,
I had my laptop tested by Bleeping Computer a few weeks ago. No threats were found at that time. The laptop still becomes very slow with time. I keep cleaning it using SUPERAntiSpyware every few days and I see a number of adware. After these are removed, the laptop is faster again. I think some hidden adware roots are still in the laptop. I wish you could help me one more time.

Hello,

I joined years ago and only posted twice, found my way back here after looking for the forum I got help on previously (couldn't find it but found this also).

I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 home premium on. For about a week or more (not sure of exact date it started) it has been extremely slow to start up, takes 15 minutes at least to load up and actually let me click anything on my desktop. At it's worst it took 30 minutes.

My computer hangs every so often making typing in anything or moving the mouse cursor impossible. I have to wait a minute or two till that stops and it goes back to normal.

It's also effecting my internet browsing and usage. My internet works brilliantly on my mobile phone but on the computer it's quite slow. I have a 50mb connection.

At the moment speedtest says I'm at 48mbps upload and 3.15mbps download but it certainly doesn't feel like that when browsing the internet.

I am not sure what to do, I have limited knowledge of dealing with super slow computers/laptops. My microsoft security essentials full scan found nothing. Avast has found nothing. So I have no idea why this is happening.

Please help, it would be much appreciated.

I have a SATA hard drive and the cable end that connects to the Hard drive (not the MB) keeps coming loose and the computer does a memory dump and locks up. Open the computer, push the cable back tight and all is fine. Have tried two new SATA cables but after awhile they do the same. How hair brained is putting a little bit of electricians tape on the cable that will hold it in tightly? Any ideas?

I have an Asus A7V600 M/board with a Western Digital Raptor connected via the supplied Asus SATA cable. This cable is not a tight fit and several times, in the few months I have been using these parts, the plugs have moved a little and needed reseating as the hard drive then loses communication with the m/board. Has anyone else had the same problem and found a solution. Especially a brand of cable that fits better and stays connected. It is most often the m/board end that moves, but not always. Whatever I do to fix this must leave the cable easily disconnected.

I`ve got an Asus Z53E laptop that it`s about 2 years old.
This week I realized that my mouse touchpad cover is coming off, but looking underneath the cover I can`t see anything to be able to screw it back in. I`m guessing here that it`s glued to the laptop?
Any advice would be appreciated. If I Should glue it back together before the touchpad cover totally comes off, what kind of glue should I use?

This is what I mean by Touchpad cover. Just what is around the touchpad in my Asus, everything works fine at the moment, but this cover keeps the buttons protected, so it`s important.

Thanks in advance!!

Answer:Mouse touchpad cover coming off

Does anyone have any ideas?
For some reason this is a subject I haven`t been able to find the solution looking on Google, as a usually do. Just wanted to make sure I won`t spoilt my laptop putting some glue to stick this touchpad cover together.

To any staff, Long story short, the hinge on my Thinkpad T61p were getting loose (it was moving back and forth) and upon a quick serach, apparently it was a known issue on these laptops. As my warranty was nearing its end, I quickly called Lenovo to have this repaired. Because I was promised that this repair is going to be finished within 5-7 business days, I decided to go ahead and send it away depite that my major requires it 24/7. I've received a box next day and I sent it away on Jan 9th, 2008. I called in today to see what's happening but this employee, who rather got really irritated that I called in, couldnt find my info for 30 mins. After finally finding my info, he mentioned that the hinge is backordered. I politely asked him when I can get the laptop back but he said it could take days.. weeks or possibly up to months.  The sole reason why I sent this laptop for a repair was because they said the turnaround repair would be fast and I believed his word. It's quite dissapointing to hear these kind of delays in repair process when I need this laptop ASAP. There are actually 2 ongoing cases regarding my laptop but none of them are being solved at the moment. The 6 cell battery, which just died a few days ago, was replaced by a 9 cell from Lenovo. I called about this issue as well and hopefully they can get this straightened out. How long does it take for a "back ordered" parts to arrive at the depot? Can someone tell me how to replace the key cover onto a laptop computer please? It doesn't appear to be broken, but it is off. It has two silver colored things on the keyboard and the cover has a white plastic insert that corresponds with the silver parts on the keyboard.

Answer:Solved: My F key cover came off and I don't know how to put it back on

Pop the white part off of the bottom of the key and put it on those metal clips on the laptop, being careful not to bend the clips. If they break, you'll need a new keyboard.

After the clip is on there, line the key up on top of it and snap it on.

Should be pretty easy, just don't rush and push too hard.

I recently bought a L855-122 toshiba laptop. And it works really fine.
But ive noticed something that whenever i try to close the screen, a little part of the connection between the screen and the main laptop comes loose, ive already tried refixing it with a screwdriver but did not seem to fix the problem. Also when it is closed and i tilt the laptop i hear the noise of a small particle somewhere inside laptop.

Will this fit under standard warranty? or is it a known problem?

Yours Sincerely

Yordi

Answer:Satellite L885-122 - left back of screen attachment came loose

Answer:Back cover for HP ENVY 15 Notebook PC

Yes we can get you the Manual and plastic case parts are available but parts do not just "come loose". Either somebody is secretly taking a screwdriver to it while you are not looking or there is a failure somewhare in the hinge system which can work screws loose. Can we have a little more description or perhaps a picture? Page 18 here has an exploded diagram with the parts. Can you point out what is coming apart and how? Page 52 shows the screws holding on the bottom cover. Manual

I'm under the impression, to get the front cover off, you need to remove the "back" or "rear" panel first(.i.e. not the one you can remove with a Torx  15 Screwdriver...The other panel.) That way, once removed, you can loosen the3 tabs on each side of the front panel, to remove it. To have a look at the rear of my computer, although it's not my computer, it looks exactly the same. He shows the rear of the case, around 50 sec. into the video...Are those some type of screws? YouTube Video Thanks in advance, Chef_D

Hi, Is it possible to have the back cover screws replaced if they wear off? Since mine is starting to wear off due to I got 2 ssd and one of them is my home use ssd and other one is for work/testing ssd so I switch between them alot depending what I'm doing and I noticed couple screws of mine are begining to wear off so it's starting to get harder on unscrew them due to + shape is becoming more rounded each time almost, the laptop itself has no damage on motherboard or any inside area only screws on back cover is wearing out so is it possible to have this fixed or something and does it void the warranty if only screws wear off? I hope not since if so it would be ridiculous reason :/

Hi,

I have a P300-01S (Canada). There is a second drive bay, including the sata/power connectors.
I've installed a second hard drive (64gb SSD), and it works just fine.

However, the cover for the drive bay will not fit back on. The cover has 5 pegs that prevent it from being put back on if a drive is in the bay. I believe the pegs are there to provide support to the cover when no drive is in there.

I see no way to remove these other then to snap them off. Any ideas?
These are not the normal tabs on the edges that are used to hold the cover in place, these are 1/2" long cylindrical pegs in the middle of the drive bay cover.

Answer:Satellite P300-01S: Second HDD cover will not fit back on

Found another thread about this, it seems others are just cutting off the pegs, I will do the same I guess.

Hi, Im replacing the lid back cover of my touch y50-70. The question is: Is a lid back cover of a touch y50-70 the same of a non-touch one? Whats different?   Thanks a lot.

Answer:Lenovo y50-70 touch lid back cover

Hi delta_rob ,

Greetings.

Checked on both system based on Hardware manuals (Page 34-35 base cover , page 83Y50-70/Y50-80/Y50-70 Touch/Y50-80 Touch) and they have same manuals too.
Both have same part number : 5CB0F78813  ( Item16 Lower Case C Y50-70 (Y50-70/Y50-80/Y50-70 Touch/Y50-80 Touch)

Checked with serviceable parts using sample machine numbers  on both models :

LENOVO Y50-70 Machine number 59413538 BASE COVER 5CB0F78813 LOWER CASE C Y50-70

LENOVO Y50-70TOUCH Machine number :59421810BASE COVER 5CB0F78813 LOWER CASE C Y50-70

So most likely no difference for as long as you have the same part number .

Hope this answered your query.

Hi, My T440s came with a broken (a tiny crack but still) back cover. The support wasn't able to find the part number. So they want to exchange the whole computer which, to me, looks like a huge waste of money and time for everyone - it's only 8 screws and a piece of plastic that they could send over to me. Does anyone know what FRU pert number the back cover is?

Answer:Back cover broken/cracked

I think you may be able to find it in the manual. But because the computer is so new, they may not be familiar with the part number. You would think it would be an easy look up (because that is how one would get familiar over time time) but  hey can't win sometimes. I would hate to do a replacement as that would be time with out my computer.

I'm doubtful between yellow and lime-green !!!
Which one??!!!
Thnx all

Answer:Which back cover color for lumia 620 !!

Hmmm...never had either...best thing is to see it in person at a local phone shop. Personally I would go for yellow. The green is unique and no one has it...but I think yellow just looks better. Plus is it glossy or matt finished as that also makes a big difference. But check it at a phone store tho.

Hi there,

just picked up a new Satellite P50-A09M. I can't toggle the keyboard light properly. I hit the FN Z keys I've had to tap it a few times before it works. Also the Z key does feel a little loose than all the other keys. It functions fine for typing but yeah still loose..

Does this sound like an Out of Box defect and should I take it back to the store?

thanks

Answer:Satellite P50-A - Z key feels kinda loose - back light function effected

On this virtual way it is not easy to say much about that. You must check it and if you think something is wrong there I think you should bring it back and ask for replacement.

Answer:How do you remove the back cover of an envy 17t-n100?

Hi, Did you know that is a work for Authorized Service Provider parts ? If you wish, for RAM, please try: 1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 27).5. Remove the optical drive (see Optical drive on page 28).6. Remove the bottom cover (see Bottom cover on page 31). as mentioned on page #38 of the following manual:     http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04696907.pdf   DIY will void warranty. Good luck.

I'm very dissapointed with Lenovo's product quality. I tried to open the back cover of my U400 and it didn't go very well. I followed the instructions exactly as mentioned on the official videos, taking every single step carefully. However, it's impossible to remove the bottom cover without breaking the plastic tabs. I have yet to hear from someone who has managed to do flawleslly. Anyway, besides this, the battery life is nowhere near 7 hours as Lenovo claims. I can get maybe 4 tops if the screen brightness is turned all the way down, no apps runnig, and wifi radio and bluetooth turned off. I haven't changed any internal components or anything. Would Lenovo accept this return?

Answer:Return U400 after opening the back cover.

Why did you try to open the back cover? It would be really difficult to get a return on the machine if you broke something.

I bought a new Thinkpad Edge E545 from Amazon two days ago, and it arrived in the mail this morning.  I also purchased an additional 4 GB memory card to install.  I followed the instructions in the User Manual about Replacing a Memory Module (on page 81).  I started out by attempting to loosen the screws on the back cover.  I used the correct size screwdriver, and three of the four screws loosened quickly and easily.  But, the fourth screw wouldn't loosen, and now it looks like the screw is stipped (or at least partially stripped). Any thoughts on how to proceed?  Since the laptop is brand new, I don't want to have to take it to Microcenter and pay them $100 to get the screw out for me.  But, I also want to have the additional memory card installed (which I can do myself if I could just get the screw out).

Hi,my name is Miguel and this is my first time posting on the lenovo community page.I had bought a Lenovo IdeaPad P580 last year at Best Buy and had already gone through the 1-year warranty.Recently my screen had broke, so I took it to a computer repair store to get it fixed and they had actually broken my hinges! Unfortunatly signing a statement saying that they are not liable to any damage during the repair, they had broken both of my hinges and the lcd back cover. Even afterwards, they wanted to charge $280 for the repair for the hinges and the back cover, but failed to because the parts were out of stock.I had tried looking for the parts myself and found the hinges here (http://www.lenovospareparts.com/90201003--LCD-HINGE-H-QIWY9_p_773.html), but couldn't find the metal back cover. Is there any affordable or just a way to fix this screen? I already have a new lcd screen, but the screws and hinges are not bought. Thanks for your guys' time.

I just bought a TP Yoga 14. I'm looking to replace the hard drive with an SSD. I checked out a youtube video and I just need to remove 8-10 screws on the back cover and lift it out from the hinge all the way round. But for some reason, I cannot unscrew the tiny screws and have them removed. I'm using a 00 screwdriver but I've tried others. It looks as though the screws are unscrewed, but they don't pop out, even if I whack the back of the case with my hand. I've tried using some pliers to knock against the screwdriver to wedge it in and turn it using the pliers, as I've seen in some videos but it doesn't seem to be helping. If there is an automatic screwdriver and size I should be using or something else which I can buy (amazon, home depot), just let me know. thanks

Hello there Lenovo Forums.I am writing here because I have a problem with my thinkpad screen and back cover. Just recently I've noticed that the back cover tends to unstick/come off/unglue/disconnect from the glass screen (I am not a native speaker and can't really find a good word to describe it). The whole thing happens mostly when opening the notebook. As the hinges are quite firm and opening the laptop is not as easy as in a macbook it requires some force to open it. I usually open the laptop just as one would open any other e.g. macbook pro. Grab the middle of the screenwith one hand, grab body with other hand and it opens. After noticing what is going on i started grabbing it from the sides to prevent further harm to the machine which is quite counter intuitive for me. Furthermore the camera lens started to get dusty because of the problem. Getting to the problem. Should I just get it repaired by Lenovo, as the device is under warranty, or it is considered user damage even though it seems that the screen unit is faulty.
