I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: usb ports do not work on left side of laptop, cannot find or...

Hi,Please provide the exact model of your PC so that we can look and see if we can find any missing drivers which will enable the USB ports on right side.If you look at service manual you can see that the ports on the right side are actually a seperate board attached via ribbon cable to the motherboard. So the USB on motherboard are working and the hub is not working. Could also be a hardware problem. (page 62)http://www.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02770249.pdf Let me know,David

When I insert a flash drive into one of the dead ports, initially the message pops up indicating that the computer recognizes something has been inserted into the port, but then it immediately disappears and the port is dead. I went to Device Manger-->Portable Devices and tried to fix one of the three dead ports. At some point (after I scanned for hardware changes, I think) it did show the drive letter, but it had a yellow triangular error-message  indicator. I right-clicked and selected Properties, and it said "This device cannot start (code 10)." Then the drive letter disappeared, though it has come back sporadically. I hope this is clear. Would appreciate any ideas. Thanks. Jane Doe

I also noticed this problem. Only the USB port nearest the rear is working. Even when I boot into the BIOS with a USB drive attached, only that port enumerates anything.

This system has worked well up until a few weeks ago, then suddenly many of the ports on the left side (USB, Ethernet, phones) have failed. I haven't tried the mic or the modem. The PCMCIA slots work. As well, the system could not recognize what video adapter it had, although it works with the default driver. Does anyone have any ideas on the problem and fix?

Answer:T42 failure of many or all of the ports on the left side

your southboard chip on your motherboard could be detaching, but i haven't see many ethernet and phone ports that fails too. akjula66 knows bit more on this issue than i do. If it is indeed the southbridge chip that is causing grief, then you could try a solder reflow or a second hand motherboard change. Or time for a second hand or new upgrade to a new laptop.

I have a Satellite P50t - A0338 laptop.
It has a full keyboard and numpad. The numpad side of the laptop is faulty. And yes i have tried turning it on and off by pressing the num lock button. I have also restarted numerous times. Checked the BIOS un-installed all keyboards and restarted to have the drivers, then, reinstall. The problem persists.
I am now typing using the keyboard. I want to now demonstrate what happens when I use the numpad side.
I am going to type the following using the numpad: 1234567890.-+/* in that exact sequence.

Here goes:
2+34567*a~
bn8.9+-*/3

Damn I switched tabs three times, it asked me whether I wanted to shutdown and it took me the log off screen & more.
The num pad used to work. It hasnt been working for some time now. I can not remember the exact day it stopped working.
I don't download crap. Only use this laptop for work and listening to music. So it has MS Office and Itunes installed, it came with AVG antivirus.

I therefore think it is a driver issue. However the drivers are for a standard keyboard, there aren't any strange drivers installed under the keyboards. I have accessed the BIOS to check whether there are any settings which I can change, and I couldn't see any.

Oh there is one more thing, both USB ports on the left have stopped working.
The keyboard lights can be turned on and off by using fN+z...
Please help.

The usb ports on the side of my P50 (not the ones in the back) won't keep contact with any usb device that I plug into them. I've tried external drives, card readers with and without cables, flash drives, different cables, 3.0 and 2.0 devices, etc. I sent it to Lenovo for repair, and they sent it back saying everything was working properly, even though everything is not. Lenovo's tests must not include use cases of actually plugging devices into those drives.  When I plug a device into the side ports, Windows 10 finds it, then loses it, then maybe finds it again, and always loses it again. Sometimes Windows doesn't find it at all. I have plenty of memory and storage, and an i7 processor. Does anyone know of a video on how to replace the side usb's? I can't find one. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

I spilled a little bit of milk and clean it off of the touch pad and now only the left hand side corner is working? How much would it be if i get it fixed? Or what can i do about it?

Sounds like the milk ran down into the contact surfaces. Tricky to fix yourself but it is not easy to suggest what others would charge for this operation - get some estimates.IMPORTANT - Please come back and let us know the outcome.

The problem had been intermediate and usually happened a day or so after beginning to use machine (it's only used for travel). It has been a week now. I tried removing power cord and shuting down over night and also running battery all the way down, no luck. Most annoying!

Answer:C710-both USB ports on right side do not work, but...

According to this picture the two are connected to the motherboard by a ribbon cable. I'm betting the cable has come loose or is cracked. If you are still in warranty, I'd have Acer fix it for you. If you are out of warranty a decent technician should be able to reseat the cable fairly cheaply.

I have a fairly new Lenovo Y510p laptop (only about 3 weeks old). I have had a wireless keyboard and mouse combo hooked up to one of the two USB ports on the left side of the machine. Today, the computer fails to recognize anything plugged into these two usb ports. There is one usb port on the other side of the laptop (right side) that works just fine. I've spent the past few hours trying to troubleshoot the problem to no avail. The laptop seems to vent heat very well and I have not noticed anything else to indicate overheating. Here's a list of the things I have tried, with no success: -System Restore-Uninstall USB root hub in the device manager and reboot-Update the chipset drivers-Multiple system reboots-Uninstall and reinstall the drivers for the mouse/keyboard combo (its a Logitech Wireless Wave Combo MK550)-Try different usb devices in the two non working slots (including a wired keyboard and an external wifi adapter)  I really hope that this is not a hardware problem, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was. If anyone has any ideas on what else I can try, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi

I've a problem with the 2 USB ports on the right side of my laptop Satellitte L670D-10E with Windows 7. This morning there was no problem, I utilised my optical mouse without a problem, but when I restart my computer this afternoon the ports doesn't work anymore.

I tried to desactivated and reactivited the ports but it doesn't help. In the control pannel of the hardware everything is set as "good working".

Can somebody help me?

Thanks

Answer:Satellite L670D-10E - USB ports on the right side don't work

Hey,

> I tried to desactivated and reactivited the ports but it doesn't help.
How you have done this?

Probably it?s something wrong with chipset driver that controls the USB ports? In your case I would reinstall the chipset driver from official Toshiba website.

Have you installed additional software or driver for your mouse? If yes I would recommend removing this software.

Hi all,

I bought a Satellite P850-12Z laptop with *4* USB 3.0 ports. Two ports on left side and two ports on right side with sleep and charge functions.

If I connect a Verbatim USB 3.0 external drive to ports on left side, everything is working properly. Transfer rate is about 70-90MB/s, but if I connect the *same drive* to USB ports on right side I see the pop-up message "This device can perform faster if you connect it to a Super-Speed USB 3.0 port" and transfer rate is about 20-30 MB/s. These ports are working like USB 2.0 ports.

I repeat that all ports available on the laptop are USB 3.0.

Does anybody know what is happening with USB 3.0 ports on right side?

I don't have another USB 3.0 drive to do more tests.

Thanks,

Carlos

Answer:Satellite P850-12Z USB 3.0 Ports on right side don't work at USB 3.0 speed

> I repeat that all ports available on the laptop are USB 3.0.
You are absolutely right.
I?ve checked notebook?s specification and all ports are USB 3.0 ports.

It is not easy to say what is wrong there.
What you can do is to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for explanation.
They should know what is wrong there.

Maybe some driver update or BIOS update offered in the future will ?fix? this issue. In my opinion you should continue to use ports on left side for data transfer.

My USB hub got too much power and crashed my pc (it was connected to wall). It was plugged into one of the USB 3.0 ports on the left. Now the other USB 3.0 port does not work but the one the hub was plugged into still does. The USB 2.0 port on the left was unaffected. Any ideas? I am willing to open the back casing if anyone needs to see the internals. Thanks in advance for any suggestions! I have already tried reinstalling chipset drivers and such and also tried uninstalling the all the USBs in device manager and rebooting. I have also tried disconnecting the battery and letting it sit over night to no avail. Any help? This is the 512 GB ssd model of the y50.

Answer:y50 one of USB 3.0 ports on left does not work

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Since you are willing to open up the case I would suggest you try a hard reset of the BIOS.  Remove the back cover and remove the main battery.  Above the main battery mounted on the motherboard is a second coin cell battery that will probably be encased in black vinyl with a red and black wire coming from it.  Unplug this battery's wire from the motherboard and press the power button for 30 seconds.  The reconnect the coin cell, install the main battery and power up your laptop then see if the port is now working.

Your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual will explain how to remove the cover and the main battery.  The link below is for your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual. When working inside your system please follow all precautions and recommendations that are noted in the manual.

jayvee,

As long as nothing was spilled or the unit was dropped that would typically mean that the keyboard itself could be defective, the keyboard ribbon could be loose, or the motherboard could be defective. Depending on your level of expertise, you can check the ribbon cable to make sure it did not come loose from the motherboard, otherwise you might have to take the system to a local technician and see about getting some assistance.

the left side is extremely hot, almost burning hot, and it is also heating up the wooden desk which it is rested on. The only thing i have plugged in is a recharger, i have removed the battery because do not actually move my laptop around much so i just keep it on A/C. However, my laptop has never shut down, or nothing bad has happened even though its really hot, any thoughts on this, will it become a problem? And if so, how do i cool it?
Also, when my laptop is in hibernation, will all process be running? and also will it still be processing? I normally put my laptop on hibernation overnight.

Is wood the best surface for a laptop to be placed on or should i place something in between the laptop and the desk?
Thanks

Answer:Left side of laptop is EXTREMELY hot

Get a cooling pad, be sure the vents on the side are clean of dust. If you don't want a cooling pad, try lifting up your laptop on the back with whatever you have, a few inches does wonders. What type of temperatures are we getting? Get HWMonitor and post up a screenshot.

In hibernation, all your processes in memory are written to your HDD, and fully shut down. So no, in hibernation, your system wouldn't be doing anything.

Hello Forum, I purchuased a T500 on friday, installed WinXp Pro and tried to get everything to work. So far so good but noticed two problems. My left keyboard side is making strange "clicking" noises while i'm typing. I even noticed that when i push the buttons down a little bit harder, the whole keyboard lowers itself a bit. I get this clicking sounds also when I hit the trackpoint, so the whole issue is very disturbing. On the right side of the keyboard everything works fine, no clacking or something so i think it might be a failure? Onan R61I could not reproduce this.  Second Problem is probably my own fault. I cannot initiate hibarnation. Normally i am used to hovering the mouse over the windows shutdown dialoge so that "Standby" changes to hibernation and I simply have to click on it. Might this problem be connected to a missing driver? Maybe i forgot one from? ATM I still have 2 unknown devices on my system, roughly translated to english these are: PCI - Communication ControllerPCI Serial Adapter First is probably bluethooth which i am downloading at.  But the second one? No idea.  Thanks for any help Regards,Teal

Answer:T500 2 problems, first: clacking left keyboard side, second: hibernation doesn't work

Okay, the missing hibernation support is working now. For the record: I needed to enable the "hibernate" option on your system. XP does not enable this by default. To enable it go to: "Control Panel", then select "Power Options" and then "Hibernate" tab. Check the box "enable hibernation". Works like a charm now. Thi first prolbem still exists though...

Just bought a samsung laptop ATIV Book 4 4 weeks ago. Had no problems until this a.m. I cannot see my full screen and have to decrease it in order to see the full screen. Have had to move all my icons into center of screen to see/use them. Have not dropped it.There is a black something at the bottom of this white strip, which looks like a long-tailed guppy. No kidding. With a bar underneath it that looks like the bars on my internet to denote signal strength. I've downloaded all the drive updates, with no change.Strangely, when I ran a malware scan, it came up two PUPS, which I removed and which made the bars go away. But, now they are back. Also ran a malware root-kit scan, with nothing showing up. Is this some type trojan, you thinnk?message edited by texastwostep

Answer:white band on left side of laptop which I cannot see behind

Try downloading and running a program called Rkill. Then download a program called malwarebytes, you can uncheck the trial real time during install. Run a quick scan and remove what it finds. It will likely ask you to restart, see if that fixes the issue. You can also run a full scan with malwarebytes after as well. Now if it still persists you can run this small program to check for a root kit virus, by Kaspersky. So today I opened my acer aspire 5100 and i logged on to vista. And as i was getting started i noticed a small (width) yellow line which went top to bottom on the left. I thought something was wrong with the screen. So i emailed acer and that was not a big help. Now i have 3 lines that change colors and i am worried more will appear. Later on i applied presure and pushed left and they went away. But i am not sure how to keep it there. After i let go and the screen moved a little right and the lines appered. I think this is becuase something moved the screen right weather it was from a trip or something else. What can i do to get rid of the stripes or vertically adjust the laptop? Thanks Slamdunka

Answer:Laptop Screen, Strange lines down left side.

I'd let whoever sold it to you fix it - you talk about a trip but don't seem sure - if you can't remember doing anything that could have damaged the laptop I wouldn't be guessing while talking to them - warranties only cover it if it is the result of parts being defective.

Hey everyone! Thanks for reading and for any help that you give me! This problem has been occuring for almost a year and it seems like nothing works. I have chatted with 2 hp specialists which they have been helpful but the problem still remains. The one hp guy actually saw it happening when he took over my laptop. He did updates and checked the touchscreen settings. After he did all of that, the laptop restarted and the dots went away but the thing is, once I restart or turn it off and back on, they go away for a little while. Sometimes a week, a day or two, or even a few hours. So the hp guy thought he had fixed the problem but the dots are back! I literally can't take it anymore! I don't have money for a new laptop. This laptop is not even a year old yet and it cost me over $650. I paid that much for a custom made laptop and this is what I get? My old two year old laptop that I got from Walmart for $250 on Black Friday doesn't even do this. It's just slow. More about the dots: The range of how many dots appear on the screen differs. Sometimes 2-3 or sometimes like 10 of them. Also it differs on how bad it is. Sometimes they don't move or keep clicking the same spot and other times they go crazy clicking the screen and moving back and forth trying to scroll. It is literally like a ghost is standing there usuing all five fingers and repeaditly clicking on the screen and dragging his hand back and forth. So it's pretty hard for me to be doing stuff on... KazemLovHp Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about USB port problems and wanted to help.  Unfortunately, the image you posted is now showing in the forums, so I can't see what you saw. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can perform to diagnose the USB problem: HP PCs - Troubleshooting USB connections (Windows 10, 8) Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the problem you're up against is that Microsoft only supplies drivers with the most basic functionality, and what you really need for FULL functionality in laptops is the specialized drivers written for the specific hardware found in laptops -- and unfortunately, there are no HP Win10 drivers for your laptop. However, for MS-supplied drivers that aren't working well, you could consider using HP Win8.1 drivers -- although there's no guarantee that those drivers will work.  Here's the link to the HP Product drivers and software page for Win8  for your PC:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-g6-1200-notebook-pc-series/5145704/model...If that page does not show Win8.1 when you open it, then click Change and select Windows 8 using the pulldown. You might have to install the drivers using compatibility mode: http://www.windows10forums.com/articles/compatibility-mode.7/ I would suggest you try the Driver-Chipset drivers as those generally affect the USB ports on the motherboard.Good LuckI am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor... I notice when I push on the right side, the key pushes in perfectly meaning no tightness or whatever. But when I push on the left, I notice its a bit tougher and if you were to hear it, sounds like the key is touching against another key but its not. It just seems not as smooth. What can I do to make my left side push as smoothly as the right? Im thinking maybe it just needs some buttering up on the left side, maybe just a little dry. But how do you go about popping off a laptop space bar without breaking it. Is there any springs in voled.

Answer:Space bar key on laptop seems to press differently on the left side than the right.

It should just pop off; pry it off with a screwdriver. This article may help:

I just bought my wife a brand new HP laptop at Costco. The left side USB ports work, but not the right side. The mouse, flashdrive, etc are ok when plugged in on the right side, but not the left. What gives? Is there an easy fix?

Answer:Brand new HP laptop, right side USP ports not working

This is a little confusing. You say the right side USB ports don't work but the left side ports do. Then you say the mouse and flash drive work on the right side but not the left. If it is new it is still under warranty. Contact Costco to replace it under warranty if there is a problem with it.

Has anyone else seen this problem.   I've had two laptops and nearly 14 months (4 months after warranty expiration), the left hinge plastic bezel has cracked.  I suspect this is a universal problem as I've met with other laptop owners who have experienced the same thing at nearly the same time....just after warranty expiration.
I know that in nearly all manufacturers of laptops that this is occurring and oddly nearly all are the left hinge bezel/plastic.  HP customers, I believe, have launched a class action lawsuit.

Is there a class action lawsuit against Dell for this same problem?  It sounds like all manufacturers are getting their laptop hinge bezels from the same place. This is a problem that Dell needs to address...immediately.

Good Afternoon, I recently bought became an acer user after I found this Aspire laptop that had everything that I wanted at a reasonable price. But after just a couple years the left side near the adapter plug in began to crackle everytime the screen was open and closed, slowly on the same side the plasitic became more and more separated, until recently this was not a major issue but as time wore on that small gap has become so wide it seperates the whole computer in two causing my the port that the power cord is connected to has fallen deep inside the laptop. As I begin to research this problem I came to find that this was something that has happened to almost every acer laptop no matter the price or type, now my question is since this is a manufacturers problem shouldnt ACER fix this issue without any cost to the customer since it is something that should have been fix in design phase? I find this perplexing because I have owned other laptops that I have droped (I have never dropped this one) that has NEVER split open. PS if you do not believe me research for yourself. most of these malfunction happen before a years usage

Answer:Acer laptop LEFT side Screen hinge Problem

Hi, It is unfortunate to hear about the issues you're having with your case and opening the lid to your laptop. I would recommend having the machine serviced.

I can assure you that a far larger portion of Acer laptops do not have this issue. A lot of research, time and developement go into the area around the hinges to minimize issues, but laptops have had these issues for 20+ years. The hinge is a common component that produces a lot of stress. While we do measure ourselves to others, a quick google search replacing Acer for another manufacture is sure to produce the same results.

Please help I have a windows 10 laptop and for some reason my desktop icons keeps rearranging to the left side of the screen after I rearranged them on my own and restart or shut down my laptop then open it all the desktop icons are back to the left side of the screen. I have tried many ways like making sure that auto arrange or align icons to grid are unchecked, making sure that the settings under themes (Allow themes to change desktop icons) is unchecked, Scan for any virus but according to my antivirus no virus are found, I don't use ESET Antivirus so for those people having this kind of problems when having ESET Antivirus installed does not affect me because I have Avast and even tried sfc/scannow on command prompt but my laptop didn't find any integrity violations or errors. Please help.

Answer:Windows 10 Laptop Desktop Icons Keep Rearranging to the left side

Right click your mouse on the desktop and look at the Right Click menu to see if they are set to auto-arrange. Your AV has zero reasons on this, because it would be a desktop setting for the GUI.

Model:  HP Pavilion m6 Notebook PC 15".   Laptop used minimally and still in beautiful shape other than these noted issues:  Left hinge is broken away from plastic casing (see pic) and Right hinge is broken away from lid plastic (see pic).   From what I'm reading, it seems the plastic base, chassis, and possibly lid base and hinge need replaced.  Please let me know what HP is offering as far as replacement parts and repair.  This seems to be an ongoing issue with HP notebooks.  I've purchased a total of three HP notebook/laptops over the past four years so I'm very concerned about these issues and why HP has allowed it to continue for so long and across so many different models.  It seems to me the plastic used in making these parts does not have the tensile strength required in notebook/laptop use.  I would think this issue would've been corrected years ago and not have continued.  Please advise.  I do love all my HP laptops other than these issues.   Thank you.

Hi,
I recently bought my Dell XPS 9560. My dell xps screen appears cooler on the left side and slightly warmer on the right side. It is not noticeable in any color but when I visit websites with a white background like google, I can notice that the right side is slightly warmer (yellowish) which is distracting. Any idea on how should I proceed with the issue?
Thanks

Answer:Dell XPS 9560 Screen - left side cooler and right side warmer

If "recently" is less than 21 days from shipment and from Dell directly, the best option is to contact customer support and have the system replaced.
If it's more than 21 days from shipment, the warranty will cover the display replacement, which is the only solution -- though if the system is new enough, you're better off having it replaced than repaired.

After I reinstalled Windows XP Home on a P4 2.4 G computer and checked Quick Launch in Taskbar & Start Menu Properties, I double clicked the Quick Launch divider in error, and Quick Launch displayed on the second row of the Taskbar.  I was finally able to get Quick Launch on a single row of the Taskbar.  However, it is now on the right side of the Taskbar, and I have not been able to move it to the traditional left side.  While it does not create an operational problem, I am accustomed to Quick Launch being on the left.  Quick Launch is not locked.  How can I get it back to the left side of the Taskbar, with open programs showing on the right?

Answer:Move Quick Launch From Right Side To Left Side Of Taskbar

Click and drag the divider, that should move the toolbar about.Just drag it to its normal position. It works for me, anyway.Hope this helps.

Anyway they replaced the keyboard and the motherboard, and everything works great now. But there is a tiny slide switch button on the left hand side for a wireless connection that will go left or right. It is stuck and wont go right or left. So i pushed it a little to hard and the button popped off. How can i fix this... Should i unscrew the bottom of the laptop and try to fix the switch? I'm def not sending it back out again to wait another 3 months.

Has anyone seen this before?
This seems to be happening more and more, I am using my PC (with Windows 8 Pro) as an HTPC and its connected via HDMI to a plasma TV so the PC is always on. Sometimes, when I go to use the pc I turn the TV on and then move the mouse around to turn the display on and I see the attached image, it looks as though the screen has shifted to the right and wrapped around to the other side.
I ran windows 7 with the same hardware on this setup for years without an issue. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Did you ever get any sulution for this problem ?

I have the same problem with my windows 7 ultimate, tried everything now, the last step i'm testing now is an older driver.

Very frustrated with this...I opened the laptop gently as I would always do  and the hinge on the left side of the laptop just snapped and popped out of the plastic monitor frame.  The design of the hinges are just terrible and i can now see how they work because the case has been damaged just from opening and closing the laptop.  I can now see inside the whole left side of the case.  To top it off I have already invested considerable time into upgrading the OS to Windows 10 and customizing and installing software on this laptop. I cannot close my laptop entirely since the screen closes on an incorrect angle. Since I am out of warranty, is there any way to fix this problem? After reading several posts, it seems to be a common problem with the envy models.

Hello,

I have a strange problem. I recently had to move my graphics card from one slot to another on my motherboard. When I did so, my desktop appeared to be shifted over to the left and that the left most part of the desktop would not display. I tried to use my TV controls to shift the display horizontally and when I did I encountered two issues- 1) the display would not adjust flush with the right side of the screen (would not reach it leaving a slim black bar) and 2) it looked like someone sliced off the left most part of my desktop (the part missing was a width so that about half the start/ windows button was missing).

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling CCC (latest update/drivers) for my ATI Raedon HD 46xx series card with no luck (Doing a registry sweep between to be thorough). I also have updated everything else windows with no luck.

My desktop is fine @50hz by the way, but 60hz is problematic.

And here is the whammy!

I took a screenshot of my desktop to send to a friend so he could see the left part cut off by a black bar and when I pasted it, the whole screen is there in the pic!!

So I assume this means that windows thinks it is displaying the screen but it is not making it to my TV?

I would have given up on this, however, it was working before so I know that it is possible.

Any help with this issue would be appreciated as I am starting to pull my hair out over here! :-)
Thanks in advance!

Daikon

Answer:Desktop shifted left and cutoff on left side Win7 64bit Raedon HD 46xx

Hum I had a similar thing happen with my monitor I just could not get it to the edges and someone advised me to use the scaling in the CCC and it worked so give it go.

Personally I got so fed up with the ATi stuff and went NVidia best thing I ever did.

There's this annoying white noise on my left speakers(Logitech X-540 Speakerset), though I think it's not my speakers that are causing it, but something else, because when I connect my iPod to my speakers there's no white noise.

So I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to get rid of this noise

Answer:White noise on left speakers/left side of headphone

Sounds like either a driver malfunction or more likely a failing sound card. Most of the stuff below (Windows & Programs) wouldn't likely be causing problems. I'd be willing to bet it's a hardware problem (due to it only being one side).

Figure Out What's FailingIf you're using a secondary sound card
*** i.e. you have a second built in one on your motherboard, enable that.
If you still hear the sound on a different card, then it's something within Windows and not a problem w/ hardware.
If you don't hear the sound, then it's something w/ drivers or your hardware.
If you don't have an extra sound card, see if you can find/buy one Replace DriversDownload & Install a Program like Guru's Driver Sweeper
Uninstall your sound drivers w/ Driver Sweeper
Reboot
Download and install the latest drivers for your sound card.
RebootIf the sound is still there and you couldn't test a secondary card you're likely dealing with either a hardware failure (most likely with sound only happening in one speaker) or something in Windows failing.

Repair WindowsIf you want to try to fix windows, you can do the following:
Run an elevated Command Prompt and run this command:
sfc /scannow
Peform a system restore
Perform a repair install.Test to see if a program is causing the problemType msconfig into start menu search and hit Enter
Go to the startup tab and disable everything.
Restart computer
Do you still hear the sound?
Yes -- Not a program
No -- A program is likely causing the problem. If no... Read more

Hi, I have a CTL 17" LCD monitor. This morning I turned on my pc and found that the left side of my monitor is darker than the right side. Any idea as to what the problem could possibly be?

Answer:My monitor is brighter on the right side than on the left side

I don't know which orientation the tubes have, but if it is vertical, the tubes on the left may be on their way out. Most LCD monitors unless specifically advertised otherwise (ie - LED) use fluorescent tubes for the backlight.

So, I'd say it is on its way out and there is nothing you can do to fix it short of just replacing it. The left side may brighten to normal after being on several minutes/hours. Did you notice if that happened the longer you had it on?

So, I've had this laptop since June of 2016, no problems before this week (the laptop was bought refurbished which was unknown to me because it was listed as NEW on eBay so I might look into that as well but I have no warranty at the moment because it ended in May of 2016) After I went to do a simple update of software on my laptop and restarted the device, I began to experience issues with my headphones. The left side began to go out and I would have to move my headphones around in the jack and all of a sudden the next day, no sound in the left and all of the sound just comes from the right. When I go to test the headphones in a different laptop, tablet and cell phone, both sides work perfectly so, I know it isn't the headphones.  I tried to get assistance from a microsoft technician but they did everything (updated drivers, etc) and still, to no avail, the problem persists. I cannot speak to HP since it would cost me out of pocket just to be on the phone with them from what I've seen so, if anybody in the forums could help, it would be appreciated.  As stated, the headphones (and all headphones) are fine and working 100% in other devices except for this laptop.

First post...

I am coming to you as a last resort. I built my own PC and installed Vista Ultimate 64 bit OEM edition. Has been working fine for ~2 years.
Now every time I attempt to open a program I get the error "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail".

The only progam that is barely working is IE 64 bit edition. I cannot download or run any files.

Microsoft wants 59$ to speak to a technical support representative(What a joke, multibillion dollar company wants extra $ for tech support??...).

Doing a ton of research I have tried various things to remedy this with no avail. System restore did not work. Doing a sfc /scannow in command prompt does not work, it does not even run. Wasted 3 hours of my life doing a thorough checkdisk as well.

The error in the event log is as follows...
Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\x86_microsoft.windows.c..-controls.resources_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.6001.18000_en-us_72e6f33f34dfabb9.manifest" on line 18. Invalid Xml syntax.

So the problem has to do with this manifest file? I really am clueless as to my next move. I can not download and run anything at all.... Can I do a Vista repair installation with my OEM version?

Should I try and get my hands on a cheap upgrade version of Windows 7?

Hi yes my laptop usb ports have stopped working. I have reinstalled windows, used system restore etc and they just will not work. The laptop is made by Advent and im not sure why they have just stopped working. If i plug a USB device into it no light lights up to say its connected. However if i plug it halfway a light appears but i get the message 'A USB device has malfunctioned.' The drivers in Device Manager seem fine. Also I do not really know my motherboard model etc since its Acer. Still have warranty so will take back unless its just drivers that require updating. Using various tools I have this info:

Motherboard: Dixonsxp
Model: Dixonsxp
Chipset: ATI RS400/RC400/RC410
Southbridge: ATI SB400

Anythign there? Also in device manager I have several things in the USB category. I have:
ATI I/O Communications Processor USB 1.0 OHCI Controller
ATI I/O Communications Processor USB 1.1 OHCI Controller
ATI I/O Communications Processor USB 2.0 ECHI Controller

Answer:Laptop USB Ports Do Not Work!

Try this registry fix for missing usb ports.
If this does not fix the problem I suggest you take it back under warranty

Create a file with NOTEPAD containing the following lines and save it as FIX.REG
-------------------------- Use text after this line --------------------------------
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]

"DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES"="1"
-------------------------- Use text before this line --------------------------------

Double click on FIX.REG and say yes to the Merge Into Registry question.

Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager.
View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Disk Drives that you know are not present.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.

The USB ports on my daughters laptop don't work, are they expensive to have fixed? Or is it an easy job which could be fixed by my husband? because he says he hasn't done t before, but he'll look online for instructions and do it himself.

Answer:The USB ports on my laptop don't work

The first steps to take to fixing the USB port issue is to open Device Manager (in Control Panel), and remove everything under Universal Serial Bus controllers. To remove them, right click on each of the entries under this category and choose uninstall from the list. Click this button - it will warn you that you are about to remove the device from your system. Click ok, as this is what you want to do. Repeat this with every entry under Universal Serial Bus controllers until they are all gone. Reboot your system, and windows will detect the new hardware and re-install the drivers. Under normal circumstances, this should be enough to get your USB ports working again.

Hi,
I have a Samsung Laptop with Vista Home Premium which I have owned for about a year an I have had no problems with it so far.

Today however the left click on the Synaptics Pad won't work at all. I have searched around and as far as I can tell, a few people have had this problem but they lose TouchPad function too- but I haven't. The Touchpad still works and so does the right click.

I have tried switching over th functions and although this works I was just wondering if there is any way I can regain the use of my left click - it would be a lot easier than retraining myself to use the right click!

Thanks for help in advance.

None of the 3 USB ports on my HP 2000-2D19WM allow access to any connected device.  It's as if the device was never connected to the port. This includes external keyboard, mouse, usb flash drive. There is power to the ports. When I plug in an external laptop cooling platform the fans turn on. When running diagnostics:The Component Tests        USB Port              receives the following error when testing with keyboard, mouse and USB flash drive: USB Port Check: FailedFailure ID: U09G1K-6TD8B9-MFGJWK-8D1U03Product ID: E0M17UA#ABA Component Test: Failed Anyone know how to find documantation on the Failure ID?Is there a solution to repair this problem so a usb device can be detected?Any other suggestions would be welcome. TIA

Heya,

I?ve got a problem with my laptop?s USB ports. All four are rated 3.0 and I?ve installed all drivers from the laptop?s support page (as of a month ago) and everything else from Windows Update.

Presently, two ports function fine, but the other two refuse to connect as 3.0, giving me a message saying ?[d]evice can perform faster when connected to USB 3.0?. Additionally, they occasionally won?t recognize my USB 3.0 devices (which work perfectly well everywhere else) at all, though disconnecting and reconnecting usually solves this after a couple tries.

I think I?m running the latest drivers and all, but I?m not experienced enough with the Device Manager and such to really tell if I?m missing something. There are no error messages or unidentified devices there, at least.

The USB 3.0 devices I use are a SanDisk Ultra (64 GB) thumb drive and a Verbatim SNS1TB external HDD.

General specs:
Model: Asus G750JZ-DB73
OS: Windows 8.1 (x64)
CPU: Intel Core i7-4700HQ
RAM: 24 GB DDR3 dual-core
Storage: 256 GB SSD, 1 TB 7,200 RPM HDD

Thanks in advance for any help. Please note that replies may be infrequent since I have sporadic online access.

Answer:2 of 4 laptop USB 3.0 ports dont work correctly

Are you sure they are all USB 3.0 ports? On my K75DE two are (Blue) USB 3.0 ports and two are (Black) USB 2.0 Ports.

So I was experiencing sound issues with the laptop when I first bought it. About a month ago I came across this post
which helped me get the sound working on my laptop back to 100% functionality. It required me updating the bios, which I updated to version 01.10.00. This update was released on 08/02/2016 and I did it on that day. Since then my sound was perfect but the volume rockers on side my laptop are working in opposite. If I press increase sound goes down, and if I press decrease the sound goes up. It wasn't like this before the update. Its been about a month and that's the way its been since. Its a little bit annoying so I wanted to know if there is a way to fix it or do I have to wait for another Bios update to be release or something else. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

My left mouse click does not work in my laptop. I reinstalled the windows again.. but still the same problem.. Can anyone Help??

Thanks

Answer:Left mouse click does not work in my Toshiba Laptop

Hi -

Go to Toshiba Support and download the latest mousepad drivers -

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/t...p?nav=Download

If the left mouse button is still INOP, try an external USB mouse and see if the left button works on it. If so, it is likely a hardware issue that would require a mousepad replacement.

I had the kb and mousepad replaced in a Fujitsu laptop in 2008 after the mousepad stopped working.

Out of nowhere!
I first noticed my Blackberry wasnt syncronizing automatically as it used to, after I upgraded to BB 6.0. I tried the portable HDD which didnt do anything and no flashdrives were regognized.
I tried to uninstall BB6.0 (unsuccessfuly) It froze. Just coulndt do it.
When trying to install BB5.1 from a CD, it didnt want to autorun, although the CD was turning.
I followed a thread to get the DVD working by toggling the autorun option and installed BB 5.1. I couldnt sync, though as none of the USB is working. Stragely my logitech mouse works. It seems that if a device is connected in the USB before I start up the machine it works OK, when inserted after start-up it doesnt work.
I have tried MS Fix it for hardware devices and it has been running for 4 hrs "resolving" problems. I suspect its not working.
What can I do?
(Win 7 does not shut down normally when I have connected to the office network. For some reason it "shutting down" never does. On the home network it shuts down normally)

I'm at wits end here, I can't play any of my favorite games If I can't enjoy decent audio. The problem I have and this is if I use headset or straight speakers, is It never comes out both sides at same time. The only exception to this is music. I can hear music On my computer fine or music in the game fine.

Im conviniced this is an audio card issue, because I used this exact same setup on my old computer. I have this problem in both games I like to play, Wow and Fallout, New vegas. in FO:NV howerver, I hear it out of one side or the other, unless im talking directly to that person. In which case I hear nothing at all.

Please... Save my sanity bullets make poor repairs for computers.

Windows 10 will not show windows side by sideHi all.In Windows 7 when I had 2 panels open and I wanted to display them side by side, I would go down to the task bar right click and select "display side by side"Now after upgrading to windows 10 Pro when I do this I find that the panels are stacked one on top of another contrary to the instruction.I then experimented with "stack windows on top of each other", and in fact that is what it does.So now my problem is that Windows 10 will not display panels side by side when that function is selected.Any idea?Regards "Thinking hurts my head that's why I live in West Australia"

Hey everyone. I received my sony vaio 15.5 eb series i3-370m laptop today. However, the left click on touchpad right clicks. Support told me its a hardware issue that cannot be fixed and that they can send someone over. Also, if i want to close the firefox window... pressing the left or right click works which is a problem with this touchpad. The scrolling of the touchpad however has no problem though. Would you guys suggest i sent this laptop back instead? If they send someone to come and repair it, they would have to open the laptop and i don't think that is good for the long run of Should i just request a new one instead?

I would assume i don't have to pay the extra $50 now correct? The battery life i notice is around 2 hours just web browsing. I am thinking if i should just return it and get a sager 5135 because i heard battery life is 3 hours and it offers 1080P. But i know that laptop does not look as good as a sony one. I will mainly play online poker with applications on it and browse and listen to music.

I just talked to support and did trouble shooting and installed a driver. What is funny now is that the left and right click buttons don't even work anymore. However, the left click and button button works if i click on those items on my taskbar such as internet explorer and windows explorer. But if i click it a 2nd time, a new explorer will show up. I cannot click on anything besides those 3 items on my taskbar with the left/right click now. ... Read more

Answer:Pop-ups going to the left side?

Here you go. The 2nd tutorial was written for Vista, but works in Windows 7. It's also a lot easier than the 1st.

How to Set Windows 7 Menus to Open to the Left or Right Side
How to Change the Menu to Appear to the Left or Right of a Click in Vista - easier

By the way, if there's not enough room for the pop-up to open on the set side, it will still open on the other side. So, when that happens, it doesn't mean that the setting isn't working.

This question was probably asked a million times already, but I can't seem to find a topic that has a concrete answer.

The built in microphone is fine, but whenever I try to use the front jack to record with my studio mic, it only records on the left side. It'll record from both sides in mono, but not in stereo, and I prefer stereo. When I put the noise reduction on in audio manager, it can be heard on both sides when I record in stereo, but it doesn't sound as good.

I've been using wavepad since it's a very simple program. On my other computer, which uses windows xp, it works fine in both stereo and mono and I don't even need to adjust anything in the settings.

On I.E. 8, the new msn page only shows up in a column on the left side of screen. The links work and it has a search window.

Answer:why does new msn page only the left side

I just visited the page in IE 8 and there is a big blue bar at the the top that says "Your browser is outdated".That's likely the problem. IE 8 hasn't been supported on XP in 6 months. As time goes on you will experience more and more issues opening websites on IE 8.Unless you want to invite viruses and worms, you should move onto Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Opera. All of these browsers are regularly updated for XP.http://sdfox7.com

With Windows 8 , I have the following problem.

The sound on my laptop seems to come only from the left side.
BUT once I plugin my head phones and unplug them, then the sound it good for both sides???

I am so confused... any thoughts?

Answer:Sound only left side but.....

You have a bad/dirty headphone jack. Plug in the headset plug, in and out several times to see if that corrects it. There are extra contacts in the jack to route the sound and one of the contacts is "dirty". Plugging in and out several times, in many cases, will fix it.

If not, it will have to be serviced.

I used to do guitar amp repair, and saw similar jack problems in guitar amps frequently,.

Help,

I just purchased a new puter with windows 7. However the left side of the screen is cut off and I can't get to the windows there. How do i change the size or resolution of the home page..?

Rich

Answer:Left side of screen is cut off

First make sure the display resolution is set to the correct values for that particular monitor (the monitor has a "native" resolution and you need to set the display resolution to match that). Changing the resolution doesn't just change it for the "home page" (whatever that is?), it changes it for everything.

After setting the resolution to the correct values, any further adjutments to picture size that are needed can be made with the monitor's own height and width adjustment controls (usually via an on-screen menu system in conjuction with the monitor's buttons).

Answer:On the left side of computer

That's called Desktop Icon. It is used as a shortcut to launch applications or file from the Desktop, but also it could be files that saved on the desktop. To restore missing icons we need to recreate the shortcut. For example You want to create shortcut for Notepad application:1. Click on Start button,2. Click on All Programs,3. Click on Accessories folder,4. Right click on Notepad,5. Move Your cursor on Send to,6. Click on Desktop (create shortcut),7. Done. Now there is an icon named Notepad on the desktop.

for the love of god, what exactly stood behind the design of putting the usb input on the left side of the laptop ?for right handed plugging in their mouse, the cord has to go all the way around to reach the right side.

Answer:why is the usb input on the left side ?

There is a port next to the modem connection on the back right side.   You knew that.   wow no big deal.  I thought there were too few USB ports but there are plenty.  How many usb devices does one need to plug in simultaneously?

Hi don_svetlio ,

Greetings.

Was there any event of accidents like falls , bump or similar events?
Do you have a picture that we can check for the alignment issue?
When opening or closing the lid , would there be any issues like noise or distortion on video?

You may also check with technical support so that they would be able to recommend an action plan regarding this if needed.

I noticed it just after i bought it and went to Marktkauf service, they said it is ok. But now it is for sure NOT ok!
I tried to measure the temperature on the left side where the hot air comes from, and it was above 42C as the termometer already showed error.
The keyboard also gets hot on the left side. It gets uncomfortable for the hands and moreover I am afraid for the notebook.
what should i do? How to get the service?
I'm in Germany, Berlin, bought it in October 2005.

thanks!

Answer:Satellite M40-265 gets hot on the left side

Hi

On the left side of the notebook you will find the fan grilles.
I assume there is the cooling module and the CPU placed.
The cooling module lets the heat out on the left side.

Usually the notebook supports an overheating protection. This means that the notebook will shut down automatically if the temperature increases to the critical high level.
If you notebook doesn't shut down automatically so I assume the temperature is not to high.

However, you can try to check the settings in the power saver and to change the cooling method.
But if you think there is something wrong with the fans and/or the cooling module so you can ask the ASP in your country for the help.
Here you will find the right service partner:

Since some weeks my X301 tends to get hot starting on the left side. The machine turned itself off three times.Ok, I know, the CPU is on the left side. What is strange, in my opinion, is the following.I installed TPFanControl and configured a fan management policy which keeps the temperature between 50 and 55 C.Nevertheless, during the functioning the left side remains hot (ok, less than before, but more than 50-55C in my opinion), and the heat tends to propagate to the right side, making fast the whole keyboard hot.The machine is 2 years old and runs approximately 10-12 hours a day with office tasks. I've never had heat problems before.Drivers are all at the last version, apart Bios, which is the same since one year or more (so, I don't think a Bios update could help). My next step should be open the machine and clean the fan, but our system administrator says that according to him it could be more a driver/software problem. Can some advice? Can be something other than the CPU which gets too hot?Thank you!

Answer:X301: Left side getting hot

My old X301 that i recently fixed up is also exhibiting overheating. The problem was that the heatsink was clogged with lot of dusts, even though the fan is moving not lot of air was moving through the heatsink. So check your heatsink for signs of dust buildup.
