Yoga 500-15IBD overheating

Question: Yoga 500-15IBD overheating

I bought the yoga 500-15IBD(w/i5 5200U;GT 940m and 8G of RAM) in summer of 2015. At first the notebook is doing fine. But at mid-late 2016 the notebook start acting strange, the CPU start lock the frequency at 0.44 Ghz while charging. I find out that the BD prochot is the reason and I disable it with throttlestop. Then when I start gaming for few minutes the laptop just shut down, because of overheating. So I try playing game with BD prochot on and with battery. And the gameplay become very laggy. Not like low fps, but just very laggy. I monitored the CPU and the CPU just get throttled massively frequently and the frequency just go up and down. Which never happen before, the laptop used to be at least playable with consistent (low) fps. What should I do. Is some component damaged? Should I clean the fan (I checked the fan and it seems fine to me)? Should I charge the thermal paste? ps I try to stress test both CPU and GPU, it's fine when doing test alone. But when testing both CPU and GPU the temp of CPU just go sky high (~100 C) and the GPU seems to be cool in terms of temperature(75 C)and than the laptop shut down. Even when testing GPU only while CPU is idle both temp got ~75 C. When doing only CPU test CPU temp ~88 C max and GPU stay at ~55 C. It seems the GPU is transfering heats to the CPU.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently bouht refirbished Yoga 500-15IBD, It has Intel HD 5500 and GeForce 940M. When I bought the laptop online I was under the impresion that the display is FHD. Unfortunatly the maximum resolution that I see in the Windwos 10 display settings is 1366x768. Is this a software issue or the display is not FHD? I am wondering if it is possible that seller changed the original FHD display with HD display. I can't find the full spec of the laptop. Machine Type Model: 80N600FWUK.

Not perfectly.I also reinstalled Win8.1 . Nothing helps. I have not yet tried to install Win10. One reads it doesnt help also. Can someone help me?Thanks

Hi, I've tried looking for tech specs (I know the hardware specs) for the monitor so I can work out what pen/stylus would be best for the touch screen. However, I can not find this particular product (spec specific) on the website.  If anyone could help me out that would be great, Ideally I'd like something with pressure levels as I do digitally draw from time to time, and would be helpful whilst writing. But would settle for something that isn't due to owning a GFX tablet anyway. Also, I'm unsure if this ideapad is referred to as a 15, 500 or 8 due to not know where this terminology is based from (model name, model series ect) seems unclear, perhaps I'm just looking into it too much and it is just a 500. Thanks to anyone that spends time reading, and thanks in advance for advice. ~Kris

Hello, I want buy LENOVO Yoga 500-15IBD (80N60084PB) you maybe know what is a difference about this 80N60084PB and about this Lenovo YOGA 500-15IBD (80N6006FPB)??? According to the specifications of the laptop is the same and the price differs by 400 PLN Best regards

Answer:LENOVO Yoga 500-15IBD

Hi mariuszwol5, Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums. Based on what I've found out, seems like both models has same specs as you have mentioned. If I'm not mistaken, the difference here is that, the 80N60084PB has this FRU : 18201638, whereas, the 80N6006FPB does not. FRU : 18201638Description : LGD LP156WF4-SPL1 FHD AG S LED1 NB LCDCommodity Code :  LCD PANELS Also checking on the price of the part itself, based on ebay, it is around USD $99.00. Which as per google, 400 PLN = 98.21 USD.  Hope this helps!

I bought a new Yoga 500 15IBD 2 Months ago and since a view weeks the Laptop had several power breakdowns while in battery mode. All of a sudden the Laptop turns black, all lights and the hdd turns off and I have to connect the power cord to get it started again - although the Battery certainly isn't empty according to the OS-Battery indicators AND often having the Laptop fully charged less than half an hour ago. (The Yoga runs for at least 3 hours if the bug does not appear). Now this is no driver issue, I have the problem while running Windows 10, Linux Mint and Backbox Linux. I suppose it's either a battery issue or a faulty architectual design. Since  I see a lot of similar power-off related messages accross the spectrum of lenovo devices, could someone finally publically explain the source of the problem so there is a chance to get rid of it ... especially in future products?

Hi, I got a problem with my laptop. The fan is making loud noise everytime I open a new window, a new tab, any setting window and so. I believe it is supposed to make this kind of noise when I'm stressing it with more programs running, not by simply open the files explorer... Any idea on what to do? (model is Lenovo Yoga 500-15IBD)ThanksNstant

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 500-15IBD loud fan noise

Hi Nstant,  Most probably a program or App is running at the background cause fast spinning fan to cool down CPU temp.  To figure it out, right click in your taskbar and from the opened menu click on task manager.  -From top menu click on performance tab then click on resource monitor ==> from top menu click on CPU tab and look at to the Average CPU usage and see which App or Program is using a high percentage of your CPU capacity==> right click on it and end the process.  .Regards,  **If the issue has been resolved please, mark me as solution provided to help others find the solution easily and click the Kudos.**

So I added a knew device "Lenovo EasyCamera". My "Camera" app still doesn't work. So I tried to fix in with Lenovo Settings. But there is no any camera folder in it. Reinstalling still didn't fix it. Also I tried installing drivers with official Lenovo website. Still nothing.

Answer:Yoga 500 - 15IBD - Bios update went wrong

What you can see there is a Boot menu. Your laptop can't boot from disk and display boot selection menu. Try to enter BIOS (can't say how to do it, as you didn't told which Yoga model do you have) and try to change boot settings from UEFI -> Legacy (or in other way) and/or disable Secure Boot. Check if after these changes your laptop will be able to boot.

Can descover and pair with other out side device such as Smartphone. Browing file on other device is ok. Now let try to transfer files back and fort, very terrible, it only works for small file, let say less than 100kb. For larger file, the transfer always stuck at some point varies. Try to change the Smartphone, change the angle, position of the laptop and the phone, the transfer speed some time change but, extremly slow. This is hardware fault, should I take it to warranty? How to talk to them and how do they would reply.Do they just say it is working? Or do they erase my laptop?

Hi everybody, when I unplug the charger on my yoga 500 the screen starts to flicker like a rave party, I have searched like crazy all over and have found no solution to the problem. Things already tested:-Unplugging and plugging battery cable.-Disabling Windows error reporting service and Problem reports and solutions-Trying to update intel drivers from driver section and intel site.-Trying to update, and disable realtek hd audio driver. Things to take in account:-When connected to a second monitor, the new one won't flicker.-Laptop has warranty voided because of ssd install. (problem still occurs on bios with and withouth an HDD/SSD) so it shouldn't be considered a Windows 10 problem.-After SSD install, windows update doesn't allow me to update anything. I believe it thinks I'm booting from external hard drive. I cloned the original HDD into the SDD so that shouldn't be happening-Flickers increase with mouse, cursor and touch. Anybody has a fix for this? I read that a lot of people have this problem but I rarely see fixes.proof video https://www.dropbox.com/s/gttvhylvggtug7x/2017-05-26%2013.00.00.mov?dl=0

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

While on AC power, Desktop>Right Click>Properties>Settings>Advanced>Monitor. Here, under Monitor settings, set the Screen Refresh Rate to 50 Hertz. After applying these settings, the blinking problem gets fixed.

Posting the .dmp file (google is your friend) would almost certainly flag the culprit.

Hi,
I recently upgraded my Lenovo Yoga 15-IBD to an SSD, with a complete reinstall of Windows. Everything was working great; boot times were quicker and the system was far more responsive. However, the computer randomly freezes now, without any warning. I have to do a hard reset. Reliability monitor gives no clues of what the problem might be. The SSD is brand new, and passed a 'long' test this morning.

I have no idea where to go next; I seems that there is one problem after another with this laptop!

Thanks for your help!

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 500-15IBD Freezes Randomly after SSD Upgrade

Hi soopg.

When it freezes is there anything being logged in the event viewer? (System / Application / Other)

Have you looked at your Storage drivers. Before attempting to update please ensure you have an Image you can fall back to if required. While investigating would also be a good idea to have data backed up. You said this was a clean install so you likely have that point covered.

If you don't have a tool you could check out Macrium Reflect. Free, reliable and tutorial with forum.

You may wish to check out the Driver Verify process.

This tutorial will guide you through the verification process, heed the warnings. Assuming it fails follow the posting instruction in the BSOD section of forum.

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable in Windows 10

The tutorial states make a restore point. Seems to be a lot of people having issues using restore points hence have an Image.

My Yoga 500 ideapad totally loses it when I plug it into power. The CPU slows down imidiately and runs at 100% usage every time I make an action (opens Chrome takes like 30 seconds). In Speccy, I can see, that the CPU runs at a speed of approx. 500 Mhz (Core speed). If I unplug the laptop, the speed goes up to like 1,9 Ghz when I opens chrome (chrome opens instantly) and CPU usage maxes out at 40% or so. I can now close Chrome, plug in the laptop once again, and if I open chrome now,it maxes out at 500 Mhz speed with 100% CPU usage. I have just completely reinstalled windows (10, 64 bit) hoping that this would solve the problem. I have tried every possibly advanced power options, I have even changed the "when plugged in" power options to match the "on battery" ones, but without any change in performance. I recently noticed that while gaming, my Yoga 13 laptop reached CPU and GPU temperatures of 85 C, which seems extremely dangerous. I also noticed that previously, the game I was playing (Mirror's edge) would only run smoothly at very low resolutions. However, after some time away from gaming, now for some reason I can play Mirror's edge at full resolution smoothly, but now it overheats after about 10 minutes. Could this be a problem with the Thermal Dynamic Framework driver?

Hi there,

I bought my Yoga 900-13ISK Laptop (ideapad) recently (less than two months). Once I turn it on, it gets hot very fast. I am not running any special program/sofware on that. The CPU temperature goes to 75 C and the fan works in high speed although I am using a cooling pad with 5 fans. I check if there is any application works on background, but nothing special is running and the cpu is occupied by 20-30%.

Would you please help me with this issue?

I recently got a Yoga 2 11 (Core i3 version).  It works great, except when I'm watching a Youtube video after aboue 10-15 minutes, everything gets jerky and the video starts freezing.  The audio still plays, but the video will freeze up for a few seconds, then play, then freeze.  I think it is an overheating problem because when I open Windows task manager, it shows the speed of the CPU at 500Mhz and it never changes, unless I let the laptop cool down a bit.  It doesn't matter if I use the high performance profile or not, I will be stuck at 500Mhz, until I stop the video and let the laptop cool down a bit.  So, it looks like the laptop is overheating and the software is throttling at 500Mhz which kills Youtube performance.  It doesn't seem to be in any better in Tent or Stand modes either.  Anybody else see this or know what I can do?

Answer:Yoga 2 11 overheating?

I have the Same problem. I just bought a brand new yoga 2 11 , 128GB SSD (So no Fan), 4GB RAM and i5 Processor... a Brand New Laptop with these specs should not overheat watching youtube... not sure if its a major design flaw, or we both got lemons, since this doesn't seem to be a very common issue, or if it is nobody speaks up about it.. is there some kind of settings I can adjust or replace the internal battery or something? it starts overheating on the bottom where the sticker is located.. I have 3 days left before I can't return it to the store where I bought it.. if it is going to mess up this bad I don't know if I should keep it... Other than the extreme overheating I love this laptop, I hope there is some kind of fix for this..

Hello, I've had this laptop for a bit over a year, it was always a bit warm after a few minutes of usage, but the last few months its been getting so hot that I can't put my hand over the top part of the keyboard. This is happening regardless of if it's plugged to the charger or not, and happens after just a few minutes of usage. Has anyone also had this problem or have a solution for it? Any help is appreciated, thanks

Hi, I just bought Yoga 720 (13'). I did confront super fan noise problem, slow wifi and heating issues. After updating BIOS and changing settings, the fan noise got down to a bearable level but still not be quiet at all even I was justing writing this online without any other running apps . What bothered me most is the front area of the keyboard and the bottom area of the screen got warm to hot very quickly. It is like when I start the laptop, several minutes later, I can feel the warm in that two areas. Plus, today I figured out the AC adapter became super hot when it was charging the laptop. I felt very frustrating and I haven't talked to technique support yet. Are all these problems normal ?  The JBL speaker is really beyond my expectations. The sound they deliver is dull and enclosed. Neither loud or clear at all.  I am very appreciated if you guys can give me some ideas. How is you yoga 720 ? What can I do to adjust it to the best ? Thank you very much.

Hello, Since installing windows 10 on my Yoga 2 Pro (Core i5 4200U, 8GB Ram) , I've had persistant issues with cpu temperature and over-active fans. The laptop's two fans seem to be constantly active, and using a number of applications  - realtemp, CPUID HWMonitor, Speedfan, Notebook Fan Control- I've observed CPU temps of between 40 and 60 degrees centigrade when idle, and between 70 and 80 when using any kind of application  - regardess of CPU load.I performed a clean install of windows 10 a few days ago - in the hope that this might somehow help - but neither that, nor yesterday's anniversary update has had any effect. The only solution I've come across is to lower the Max processor state in power options, but that's hardly a fix. Short of opening the laptop, cleaning out its fans, and inspecting the heat sink, is there anything else I can try to address this issue? Thansk

Hello, I received my laptop 3 days ago from USA but i am living in another country(Turkey). Anyway, everything was fine since i played a video game. (Battlefield I)  Laptop getting so hot even I can't touch back of the fan exit. So is there a solution to fix it like applying repasting thermal or something like that?  Another question is what is the average of heating for normal? Is there any suggestions for testing my heat temperature? I think I can't replace it because probably Lenovo services does not look at my computer model. Thank you so much.

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 910 13 overheating

Hi smaximo,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can try applying the solution provided here before you decide on the return.

This would also apply not only to any noise issue but also the heating as the second part of uninstalling the Qualcomm Atheros WLAN Installer, then reinstall the driver would help.

Update us how it goes.

Hello, I have Yoga 900 13ISK2 for almost a year now and about few months ago I've noticed that fan started working quite often. After installing CPUID HWMonitor I can see that CPU get's to 100C! What could be the cause of that? I've reset BIOS, Windows, etc, completely fresh installation and the problem persists. I've attached a screenshot of HWMonitor. If I take it to service I will be left without notebook for sometime, which is not really an option.  Thank you for any inputs

I had purchased my Lenovo Yoga 500 about a year back and suddenly I am facing extreme over heating issues from the laptop. It is understandable when a laptop overheats at the bottom or at the places where computing energy is used, but my laptop is extremely over heating at the top left edge of my display. Over time, it gets so hot that I cannot even touch it with my finger for more than 2 seconds.  I have a feeling there might be a faulty connection or some sort of resistance building up. However, when I took it to the Lenovo service center in Singapore, they said that it would take atleast 3 months to completely fix my issue, which is complete and utter BS.  Any ideas or reasons why this could be happening?

Below is a link to my PDF report on overheating for these models. There may be several reasons as to why your Yoga 13 is running hot or overheating but this will shed light on a design flaw that I have not yet seen anyone mention online. I have included detailed analysis, before and after temperature stats and pictures showing the design flaw. This should be the one stop thread for anyone experiencing this issue. This took hours to assemble. It appears that they have corrected the design flaw on the Yoga 2 pro but the Yoga 13 owners are out of luck, honestly this should have prompted a recall. Click here to view Yoga 13 overheating report

My keyboard is acting up. It either types one letter multiple times, or I hit the key and the letters don't show up onscreen at all.  My camera stopped working also, all I get is a black screen.  The camera light doesn't turn on, I don't get the option to take pictures, nothing. My computer also overrheats really fast/easily. I only bought it late last June. Any help/advice? It would definitely be appreciated - I'm a college student with papers due in a few days that I need to start working on NOW. Also...this is somewhat rare, but sometimes my display doesn't work - at all. It just goes black and the only way to get it back on is to hit the power button and start all over.....

I bought a new Lenovo Yoga 710 15' about a year ago. I was mainly using it for some simple modeling and game programming. Nothing to fancy or intense. I recently started having issues with the laptop running hot. I figured it was because I have been trying to model some more intense meshes recently. However I have stopped modeling and I found that the Hard drive is still running really hot, between 57'c and 60'c even when I just start up the laptop. That seems really hot and I just wanted to know if anyone has had the same issue or if there is anything I can do to stop my hard drive from running so hot? I have run a few diagnostic checks and it seems that there is nothing wrong with the hard ware currently. I just don't want to wake up one day after working and find that my laptop has melted or anything like that. Thanks,DannyK

Before i got my pants off i burnt my leg pretty bad. This must surely be a fire and health hazard and the modell i have must be withdrawn from the public.  I have looked for information to get in contact with Lenovo but since lenovo want to channel the traffick there is no e-mail to where i can file my complaint. Support numbers i find in plenty, but no HQ phonenumber or legal-emejl adress where i can do a formal complaint and also what counter part i should adress with a lawsuit. Usually companies has legal information, atleast where i live, but i can not find that at lenovo.com. I have a problem with Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro charger. It was overheating and the plastic was melting at the adapter's end. I realized this happened when the charger started to make fizzing noise so I unplugged it. The laptop and charger are only a couple months old so I am quite disappointed this happened. I put some additional info below and I hope someone can help enlighten me if there's anything I have done wrong that contributes to this or the whole thing is just simply not a high-quality one like I was hoping for when I decided to spend a fortune on it.  How I charged my laptop: 1. I usually charged it up to 100% then unplugged it. I would plug it back in when the battery was down to 10% - 20% 2. I did use the laptop while charging. Obviously the battery did not last long enough for me to continue working and not charging. It only lasted me 3 hours max unplugged. 3. I plugged my charger into an extension cord rather than a wall outlet very often. After it's fully charged, I would either remove the charger from the extension cord or left it but switched it off.  4. I noticed sometimes when plugged in, the two legs (sorry I don't know what it's called) that went into a power outlet were not really fitting firmly. This only happened when I plugged it into an extension cord not a wall outlet. In my opinion, the adapter is sort of poorly designed. The two legs are placed very close to the edge of the adapter and when plugging them ... Read more

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of your problems.  Since the adapter is making noise and getting hot I would recommend you discontinue using it until you get a replacement.  Continued use may cause additional damage.

As far as why it happened,  it is difficult to say.  Most likely there is a short in the wiring if it is getting hot near the end.  Possibly the wire had gotten twisted or bent or there is problem with the end piece itself.

Hello, I bought a yoga 13 last week.  One issue I've encountered is that the bottom of the unit becomes uncomfortably warm, particularly when being used as a laptop while plugged in.  The fan is making noise but I feel very little air movement coming from it; I've used Core Temp to determine that it is hitting up to 68 degrees Celsius (over 150 Fahrenheit). For a brand new unit that is being used for much other than office work (not running any demanding software or games) I feel like this is hotter than it should be.. it also makes it uncomfortably warm after sitting in my lap for a bit. Is this a known issue with the model?  or might I have a fan or other problem with my unit? Thanks for your help!

Answer:yoga 13 overheating/ uncomfortably warm?

Hi

Welcome to the community.

As you are experiencing noise from the CPU Fan and overheating. To diagnose, I would suggest you to please update the Bios of your system from the below mentioned web link.

Afterwards, please restart and check, if the issue persists then it needs personal assistance of the service technician.

I've had my yoga for almost 2 years. The last few weeks it's been overheating (primarily underneath the left side) so that I can't have it on my lap anymore.I've tried setting it on cooler surfaces, restarting, stopping programs that open on startup, and that hasn't worked so far.I've read that updating the BIOS can help (Current version: BIOS Version/Date LENOVO 66CN54WW, 1/21/2013)But I've tried downloading from Lenovo's site, and it can't finish. After I get to:Setup has finished installing Thinkpad BIOS Update Utility on your computer. Click Finish to Exit SetupA new window prompting:Please choose one of the following tasks:Update ThinkPad BIOSUpdate model number After choosing either I get the error message:The process does not recognize the system. The process has been cancelled. After that, Windows tells me:A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. Please any advice on how to update my BIOS and/or keep my latop from overheating

Answer:Yoga 13 Overheating - BIOS Download error

Hi Florecita, welcome to the forum.

What is your exact model number? (Do not post your serial number)

I kinda don't think you have a Thinkpad Yoga, rather an Ideapad Yoga 13. If you do have the Ideapad Yoga 13, here is the latest BIOS for Win 8:

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-13-notebook-ideapad/d...

Or you can use the Bridge to find out what system you have:

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products?type=Laptops-and-netbooks&c=1

One thing I can tell you, if you truly use your laptop, on your lap, you more than likely have tons of fibrous lint clogging up your cooling system. I don't think any BIOS update will clean this out.

Cheers

Hello guys, This is my first post, so I am sorry if I will make any mistakes. The reason I am writing this post is because I can't find a solution to my problem. In January 2015 I have bought my ThinkPad Yoga s1, which by the way is a great laptop, except one problem. In April 2016 my laptop started overheating, even in standby and with the fan working. The laptop was in warranty and also now it still has 317 days left, but i have personal data on and I don't want to format and install the Windows again. Even if do this, i am sure the guys there will say, it's normal for the laptop to heat up. So I went ahead and disassembled it, thinking that it had dust in it or the thermal paste was not doing the job. I have cleaned the laptop which by the way didn't have that much dust in it, cleaned the heatsink and processor to add the new thermal paste. Nothing has change, still overheating. At that moment I realised that the heatsink is not doing the job, transporting the heat from the processor to the radiator where the fan blows. I knew about this problem because in the past I had an Acer that had a similar problem, but after 5 years of using it roughly. I had bought a new heatsink changed it added my thermal paste and it worked perfect until this month. So it worked almost one year  Now I have bought a new heatsink, changed it and it works OK again. But I wonder for how long??? Down below is a phot... Read more

I was gifted a Lenono Yoga 2 Pro in August 2015 to replace my old Dell Inspiron computer. But, since the very beginning, I've encountered many issues with it. Whenever I use the computer while it's charging, it overheats A LOT. So much so that it makes me think that some component of the hardware will burn out. Also, it is absolutely impossible to use the computer in any other mode except for the usual Laptop Mode. If, for example, I want to watch an episode of something on Netflix in Stand Mode, it freezes every 2 seconds and the audio starts malfunctioning. Then, once I switch it back to Laptop Mode, I get a notification saying that there's a problem with the microphone. I can't use Tablet Mode because it always overheats... The qualities that make this computer unique are basically non-functional and it's quite saddening. Recently, it's started making this very high-pitched noise that's especially prominent when one places one's ears next to the fans. Not only is it kind of annoying but I'm assuming it isn't a sign of anything good. I've run multiple virus and malware scans and the computer is completely free of anything malicious, at least according to Avast Internet Security and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. I also don't believe it's my Internet connection that is the issue as these problems persist no matter which network I'm connected to (school, home, Starbuck's, and so forth). I have only the most basic warranty on this computer that lasts a year. Wh... Read more

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro Issues - high pitched noise, freezing, overheating etc.

Well, try these steps in sequence, and stop where it solves your problem.1> First, try keeping your laptop turned on for one night to see if the problem is solved. Make sure it doesn't sleep by changing the power plan settings(I hope you know how to do that).2> If the above step doesnt solve your problem, call your friend(or a family member) who seems to have good computer skill. Ask him to find the culprit program that is causing the gigh CPU usage.3> Finally, if you can't find a person to do the above step for you, then reinstall windows. Reinstalling is easy, just press the small button above the power button while your laptop is shut down . Make sure you backup all your important files. Reply if you need additional help.

Answer:Where is my HDD Ideapad 100-15IBD

Hi lamradnane ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you have the machine number (check on the machine number from the sticker or check it from here ,just keep your serial number confidential) .  It would appear similar to this 80QQ00CQUK  .

Physical devices detected by the machine should show in the BIOS . Turning off the system and using the Novo key to power on would give Novo Menu that offers BIOS set up as this can also be verified within windows under device manager if recognized.

The parts lookup page would also be able to verify the devices /parts using the machine number or SN.

Update us as soon as convenient.

Answer:100-15IBD - Upgrading Memory

Hi msbb ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

In reference to your Hardware manual (page 26) :
Memory specification:  DDR3L-1333 MHz/1600 MHz, 8 GB, SODIMM 2

You may check it physically on your system (page 41)  and match the current RAM installed (sticker label) for Dual channel performance .

Max recommended by manufacturer is 8 GB for best performance (eventhou your CPU may handle more) .
And it should be DDR3L (low voltage)  1333 MHz/1600 MHz

Better yet if you have the Machine number from the sticker or checking it from here.
Specific details for upgrades of the RAM depending on your current model.

Hope this answered your query.

Answer:Looking for a Ideapad 100-15IBD DC Jack

Hi beckent. Welcome to the forums.

In my experience I found it very hard to find just that "DC Jack" replacement from Lenovo. Lenovo usually change the complete parts, and on the this case will be the whole mainboard.

Lenovo has available the parts list of the computer to the public (page 60), but not at a that low level. If the machine is under warranty or if you are going to take it to a Lenovo shop, they will replace the complete part.

If you only want to fix the component the only chance you have is trying to find who sells the same or similar electronic parts on the market.

Hi,My Ideapad 100 has problems connecting to my Virgin Media Superhub 2.When I first bought the laptop and tried to connect to my router I was asked to provide a Username and Password. To resolve this issue I changed the security protocol on the router from WPA Auto to WPA2-AES.When I rebooted the laptop the WiFi SSID was available but when I clicked connect and entered the WiFi password the laptop returned the error "Cannot connect to this network".I ran the Windows Network Troubleshooter and it said that the security on the laptop does not match the security on the network.I've now found that every time I reboot the laptop I have to change the security protocol on the router between WPA Auto and WPA2-AES to get the laptop to connect. No other WiFi devices have difficulty connecting to the router so I suspect it's an issue with the laptop. I've tried uninstalling the Realtek driver to use the Windows one and I've tried the latest driver from the Lenovo support site, all to no avail. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Answer:How to upgrade from hd to ssd on ideapad 100-15ibd 80qq

Hi jamienffc ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can use the hardware manual for disassembly guide (page39) and likewise follow the steps advised on this thread:

" 1. Install the ATIH on the HDD2. Insert SSD into the external USB box. Yes, this advice is in opposite of goretsky's one. That box costs 10...20 bucks3. Launch the ATIH, select the clonong process:a)the whole driveb)in manual mode (leave the size of partition System_DRV as is, partition C: will be resized in proportion, as well as the Q: )4. The app will reboot the laptop for the cloning process.5. Wait several hours . After finish replace the SSD and the HDD. Boot from the SSD.6. If you have Factory Recovery media already you can delete Lenovo_Recovery partition on the SSD. Resize the system partition (add the free size from the Q: ), even make the new partition7. Reinstall Lenovo R&R applicationn in order to get working ThinkVantage button at the laptop boot stage."

Some vendors have their own cloners offered free with the SSD , on this thread Acronis True Image 2014 (Home) was used but you can freely choose one that you are more familiar with.

Hope this help answer your query.

Install an eGPU.I want to install GTX 1050 TI 4GB and 128 bit on this laptop but i was not sure if this will work as good as i was thinking.I want to know if the GTX 1050 TI 4GB 128 bit is supported by this laptop and if i can install it with that eGPU adapter which is placed in the Wi Fi place. Not thunderbolt. Should i do this upgrade? If i shouldn't upgrade to this graphic card, there is another model better for my laptop ? Thank you!

Hi Sorry if there is already a thread about this subject, but I'm at a loss how to solve this issue now. I have just bought an Ideapad 100-15IBD and the microphone does not pick up anything at all. To make things worse I have an exam on Monday 25th July which is an online exam for which I require a working camera and microphone....one out of two will not do!!! I have followed the advice via the Lenovo Solution Centre and nothing. I have followed all the Microsoft advice that says to access troubleshooting etc etc.... Please please please can someone help me. I'm not very literate when it comes to uninstalling / reinstalling drivers so if this it, please can you leave a nice lengthy explanation :-) Thanking everyone in advance les

So, i have the Lenovo  IdeaPad 100-15ibd. And every time i play this flash game - Realm of the Mad God. I can feel that my cpu gets very hot and minimal mouse input lag starts. The same happens when i play CS:GO. Cpu gets very hot and i get so much mouse input lag, its just unplayable. The usb ports that my mouse is plugged in are very close to the heat. I hope this is my mouse problem and i came to the right place to ask for help.

My lenovo idea pad 100-15ibd ran into a problem while I was on it, not allowing me to do anything. So I turned the laptop off, and tried to turn it back on. When I did this it went into an auto repair, trying to fix disc errors. I let this run for more then 40 hours, before finally stopping it and turning the laptop off. When I did this, anytime I tried to turn the laptop on it would just sit on the Lenovo splash art, and I couldn't bring up a console with f8.

At this point I started looking up support on the forums, and found something about cutting all power, and removing the battery. To do this with my Ideapad, I had to take it apart, some. I DID break a lenovo sticker, that was hiding a screw. I assume that is how they would know if it had been opened. Cutting the power didn't work, so instead I took it to a nearby compute repair store. They told me it would likely cost more then half the laptops worth to fix, because it needed a new hard drive, and to be completely reset.

So I'm really just trying to see, if the one year warranty that IS still active, according to your website, had been fully voided; And if I'm just going to have to suck it up and drop the benjis.  Or if there is a chance that I could still have it fixed through its warranty. Any help is appreciated.

Answer:Ideapad 100-15IBD - Voided warranty?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry hear of your problem.  Most Lenovo Service Centers realize that folks will open their laptops in order to upgrade the various components.  Although opening the cover on a model like yours will void the warranty, the service center at times overlook that fact provided no damage was done.  The best I can say is contact Lenovo Support and explain the situation to them and get their opinion.  Regardless of what I write here, they will have the ultimate say as to whether the warranty is voided.  You might also check to see if there is a service center in your area where you could bring the machine in and explain the problem in person.  You can use the Service Locator below to see what is in your area......

Hi,I have cloned the old 1TB HDD that came in this laptop, to a new Samsung SSD 850 Pro.I have installed the drive, and it won't boot. Before trying all the usual cloning issues, drivers etc, I went into the BIOS, and the BIOS is not seeing the SSD.I updated the BIOS to the latest version, and still nothing.I have installed the SSD in another laptop, and its fine, I have put it in a caddy and onto this laptop with the original disk booted, and it sees the disk - it just doesn't like the SSD installed on the sata port.Does this version of the BIOS not support SSDs? Any ideas greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi kostagiannis ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Have you tried installing Lenovo Easy Camera Driver - Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)  ?

If you already tried Microsoft built in drivers (let me pick option) , for unknown device you can get the hardware ID for specifis manufacturer Windows 7 32 bit recommended driver.
Usually 0.3M 30W EA(wisepower) Wisepower ZB-A022-ZY 0.3M NB Camera   or  0.3M 30W EA(Azurewave) AzureWave AM-VS078 0.3M NB Camera .

Hello. I am new to the forum, so please excuse me for all my errors. I have a Lenovo Ideapad 100-15IBD, with an i5 4288U, 4GBs of ram and a Nvidia geforce GT920MX. I it is a good laptop for its price. But about 6 months after i buyed it, a crack appeared and it starts to get bigger and bigger. And when i open and close the lid, that part of the laptop pretty much pops out. I don't want that the crack to get bigger, so i was thinking to replace the whole palmrest. Is that what should i do or there is any other fix? And if not, where i should find a palmrest to buy? Sorry for the bad image quality

Hi all. Purchased a IdeaPad 305 and since setting up the mouse pad lags badly and also have to click links etc 2-3 times. Have done days of resetting, re installing, searching etc and cannot solve the problem. Have adjusted all the settings, too light touch and fast speed but still lagging. I have a feeling from what i have found it could be a compatibility problem with windows 10, possibly driver update though everything installed from new. Can anyone advise how to solve the problem, it must be a common one. Help before i go insane. Update to say i have tried updating grivers and it says windows has checked and i have the correct driversinstalled.......Cheers Bill

Hi all. Just taken delivery of a new ideapad 305-15IBD. Am finding the mousepad very hard to control. Many times when i try to move the mouse key around the screen, having to touch the pad a couple of times before it moves and even then its quite erratic. Also when tapping on anything using the pad i have to press it 2,3, or even sometimes 4 times before it is recognised. I have bben using a Samsung R519 for years and necer had this issue. Is ithis common to newer laptops, Lenova laptops or is there any way of adjusting? Will surely have many more questions if i can get over this one, if not it may be going back.
