Hey all, I was wondering if you all will help with me decide if this laptop is worth buying.

My current laptop that I have now is the HP Pavilion DV5000

$851.99 Is the final price out the door, but since I work at Office Depot, My price is:

This past week, I noticed that my laptop screen goes partially black when I scroll or move the cursor.   It's goes black in section or small blocks.   It will go away if I continue to scroll up or down, but then comes back.  I've removed battery and restarted which did not help.  I have also noticed when this happens that there will be overposting of text or pictures.  It is doing it as I am typing this text.   I have to scroll to be able to see what I am typing.   I have not recently installed any software.  I believe all my drivers are up to date.  Any help would be appreciated.

I WANT TO KNOW THAT THIS MODEL LAPTOP IS COMPTEBLE WITH WINDOWS 10 OR NOT .

Answer:HP PAVALLION G6 2228 TU LAPTOP

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. No, I'd afraid this computer HP Pavilion 2228tu is not officially compatible with Windows 10.HP hasn't released drivers for it and it was probably not tested for W10 compatibility. HP wouldn't officially support it with Windows 10.Windows 7 and 8.1 are officially supported on this PC model.Windows 7 and 8.1 are also good choices - they will be supported by Microsoft until year 2020 and 2023 respectively.  You might try to run Windows 10 but if any specific or driver related issues occur, HP support may not be able to assist you > http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05195282 I'd recommend you keep either Win 8.1 or Win 7 on it. Hope this helps.

Question: RAM Upgrade Slots

HiI'm a bit confused! I thought I had two spare RAM slots and have bought two modules to fill them. But what appeared to be two spare slots don't have the blue coloured plastic surround or the clips to hold more RAM - I thought perhaps the new modules would come with that. Can you buy those parts to hold RAM or are those "holders" fixed to the motherboard in a more permanent way?I've got two slots filled with RAM and it's Dual Channel. Thanks

Hi, in a reply to another question on this forum somone stated that this model had two memory expansion slots, i can only find one, this is on the underside of the case. Any ideas where the other is?

Also i understand that this laptop uses ddr 2700 / 333mhz memory, isn't that a little odd when the cpu's fsb is 533mhz?

Thanks!

I have just upgraded the memory on my Optiplex 755. It originally had 4 slots of 512M memory and I have replaced two of the 512M sticks  with 2G sticks.
(Possibly incorrectly), I put the new memory in alternate slots, so the memory is now reporting as:
DIMM 1 2GDIMM 3 512MDIMM 2 2GDIMM 4 512M
All seems to be working OK.
Can anyone please advise if this is the correct configuration and if the configuration is incorrect, will there be a significant hit in performance?
Many thanks.

Have a 14-ac608tu  and it came with 4GB RAM. Now I want to upgrade it to higher, perhaps 8gb or 16GB. How many slots does this system have and is there a tear-down sheet to know how to remove the back cover? There isn't any memory slot door, so its not easily accessible. It runs on Win10 home 64-bit and increasingly it has gotton slow due to the number of applications have been using and it runs out of memory really quickly. Cheers!  Soul

I have been roped into upgrading a Dell Poweredge 2950 by adding a couple of RAM DIMMs, only having ever played with PC's before I downloaded the manual and all appears straightforward apart from the memory slots.

The memory module sockets are divided into two equal branches (0 and 1). Each branch consists of two
channels:

Channel 0 and channel 1 are in branch 0.
Channel 2 and channel 3 are in branch 1.

Channel 0 contains DIMM_1, DIMM_5.
Channel 1 contains DIMM _2, DIMM_6.
Channel 2 contains DIMM_3, DIMM_7.
Channel 3 contains DIMM _4, DIMM _8.
Each channel consists of two DIMM sockets:

Apparently the server has 2 x DIMMs already fitted, but I don't know where, all fun. So where to fit the additional RAM ?, My guess would be to fit it in the unused branch thinking it will maximize RAM bandwidth, but that's only a guess, can anyone advise ? Also anything else I need to change eg in the BIOS or is it pretty much plug and play ?

Cheers

Lentil

Answer:Dell Poweredge 2950 RAM upgrade, which slots ?

There should already be RAM installed in the DIMM_1 and DIMM_2 slots if configured according to instructions in the manual. It looks like you will want to install the new RAM in slots DIMM_3 and DIMM_4. You should not need to change anything in the BIOS.

i have recently purchased an advent 7088 laptop, in the specs it says i can use upto 2gb of ram, when the tec (pcworld )was putting in extra memory he said it only has one slot, and a built in memory of 256mg, now if i added a 1 gb stick i get 1.256gb max so can anyone tell me is there only one slot as it does look like there is a slot behind the exsisting one, but this has a wider black bar in the rack and it does not have grips at the side. there is also a slot in another space but this is smaller than a 200pin and is probably for something i am ignorant about, as i don't seem to be able to find much information about this laptop and the e-manual that come swith it is for a desktop pc. any help please

I would suggest the first thing to do is to request a proper manual for the laptop.

Slot 'ChannelA-DIMM0' has 8192 MB (serial number 10211924)
Slot 'ChannelA-DIMM1' is Empty

I have a Lenovo K300 5316-XF7 that I purchased earlier this year and I recently went to upgrade the memory from 4GB to 8GB.  I tried this RAM set first but it didn't work so I reordered and picked out and this one second because it had the exact same memory speed/specs as the stock ram.  Still no dice.  I even put the original system memory into the other 2 empty slots and it wouldn't work.  Does this mean it has bad ram slots?  I looked up the serial number and it's still under warranty until mid-March, but if I'm just missing something then let me know..  Also very interested in updating the BIOS but I can't find any information on it...

Answer:K300 can't upgrade memory, 2 slots possibly bad?

What does the BIOS read? Is the new RAM showing up anywhere? If not, I would call Lenovo while it's still under warranty. They have had a bad rash of Motherboards.

I recently bought two 8 gig chips of ram, but they will only work in the first slot. I have tried them both seperately, and each piece works fine by itself, but when I put one in the first slot and the other in the second, my notebook will not boot up. I called customer support yesterday, but since my product is out of warrenty, they were unable to do much for me. The guy that helped me told me that in some models the second slot must be enabled somewhere. We tried to do this in the bios, but no such options existed there. Today I tried cleaning out the second slot using canned air and rubbing alchohol. I had read about how to do this on an Apple forum and did so with extreme care. That didn't solve the problem.Should I just give up on the idea of have 16 gigs of ram in this machine? Is there anything else I can try?

Trying to add memory to my Dell 8100 P4 1.5 XP OS. Memory loaded in Crimm slots just makes CPU beep and then not to boot. Original memory is P800-45 and new memory is P800-40 both not ECC. New memory works in Slot 1 and 2 with Crimm in 3 and 4. What is unusual about the slot arrangement is that Slot 1 and 2 are closely associated, while 3 and 4 have a bit of real estate between them. I've been to several different memory suppliers and one says my CPU has a 1G capacity while another says I have a 2G capacity--the upshot is, is the arrangement in my CPU such that I can only load slots 1 and 2? Thanks

Hi,Just wondering about what looks like the 3rd and 4th slots for RAM on my Intel 850 motherboard...  I just updated my RAM and, when I saw those extra slots, thought 'Why don't I put the old 512MB RAM in them?  That way I'd have 3GB total?'  The RAM pretty much fits, it just doesn't close on one side (those clip things).  However, either that is not good enough or the slots aren't for RAM as the computer doesn't say it has them when I boot it up.  It says I have 2GB rather than 3 and, when I put the new RAM in the slots before (because I am lazy!) it said there was only 1GB of RAM rather than 3.  Can anyone tell me what these slots are or why I am having trouble getting the RAM correctly into them? Thanks, james

I am finding that adding memory in the last two slots shows a much slower memory speed according to memtest86+  ???than when the first two slots are the only ones populated. Here are some results from memtest86+ testing on an e-Machines T6528 with AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processor. Question: PCI slots vs. AGP

The motherboard in my computer has no AGP slots. It's a Biostar M6VLQ if it makes a difference. I do some gaming, nothing too serious. Would I be further ahead getting a new motherboard with the agp slot, or are there decent pci cards out there. I've been told that pci cards aren't any better than onboard video. Any advice would be appreciated.

Answer:PCI slots vs. AGP

AGP is a LOT better than PCI and is dedicated solely to graphics cards, hence the name "Accelerated Graphics Port"

however, agp is soon to be replaced this year by PCI Express...grr and i need a new computer now

I've checked different sites but I haven't found any products that use this slot. Can anyone tell me if there is in fact anything out there and if so is it of any use to the average joe??????????

Answer:amr slots

Thanks for the insight. I kinda thought it might be one of those deals, but I wasn't sure. I'm starting to think the guy that upgraded my motherboard about a year ago was just trying to get rid of a not so popular board. The thing doesn't even have slots to plug in my video or sound cards. Of course he neglected to tell me about this until the work was done. He just handed me my cards back and said the on board stuff was good enough. If I knew then what I know now I would have showed him a slot where he could stick his entire board in!

Are you sure that its an AGP port? To make sure it is, the port should be a differnt color and should be closer to the center than the other ports.

Hello. I have an old crappy computer and I was going to get a little video card to make it a little better. All I have open on my computer is a PCI slot. I bought a card labeled PCI and it didn't look like it would fit in the slot. The socket things looked like this. I found a picture of a card that looks like it would fit perfectly here. I returned the card and then realized it might have actually fit if one side of the card just didn't actually plug into anything. It just hung off the side. I don't really want to go buy it again if I'm going to have to return it again. So any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Are all PCI slots the same?

The first picture looks like it is a PCI card that fits in a PCI slot. The second picture looks like it is an AGP card that goes in the AGP slot. An AGP slot is set off differently from the other PCI slots and is a different color, sometimes brown. Most newer motherboards (PCI-E exlcuded) for example have 5 PCI slots and then 1 AGP slot. Does yours look like that?

The XPS 8900 does not have the old legacy PCI slots. It has the newer slots =Blue PCI Express x16 card slotBlack PCI Express x4 card slotBlack PCI Express x16 card slot
You need to upgrade to PCIe cards for those PCI cards.
PCI is being phased out by all manufacturer.

A question has recently been nagging me. When I looked at my mobo manual, it shows it has 4 RAM slots, 2 DDR, and 2 DDRII. What's the difference? Both my RAM sticks are in the DDR slots running dual channel. The manual says the DDRII slots run at higher clock speeds though.

Answer:different RAM slots?

two use ddr1 and the other use ddr2.

DDR2 is better because of more bandwidth, but it is alot more expensive, with higher latencies. ddr1 has a long life yet, AMD doesn't use ddr2 yet, but they have similar bandwidth compared to intels that use ddr2.

Question: PCI slots

Is there a way to expand the number of PCI slots on the mother board? Say to install another video card to get another monitor running.

Answer:PCI slots

i agree,..but if you really want to have another monitor running without...say buying another video card(with dual monitor support)...then you'll have to do that at the expense of some pci cards that you currently have.

I saw something a bit odd today and its not something I've seen before so I was hoping someone could tell me about it.I was looking at a AsRock motherboard with onboard graphics and wanted to fit an old AGP card into it but it didn't fit.Now it wasn't an old card as in the older voltage ones but it was a 2x card I think, an old S3.I was wondering if the 8x AGP slot had been redesigned. As I said I've not seen this before can anyone clarify this.

Are you sure about the voltage? As I'm only aware that if it's the old voltage then these will not fit into the faster slots...

Answer:slots on my hp 500-270

Based on the diagram, I see that the big one is a pcie x16 slot, which is used for large things like graphics cards. ANything can be put in this. The 3 smaller ones are pcie x1 slots, mainly used for small things like wificards and soundcards.Keep in mind, they are not memory slots.

Question: PCI-E Slots

I hate to sound like the idiot I am, but I cant help it right now.

I'm seriously concidering purchasing a GeForce 6600 GT. Just one issue: I cant tell whether I have PCI-E slots in my computer. Is there a way I can see without having to crack open my computer?

Thanks.

Answer:PCI-E Slots

Try using a system diagnostic utility such as EVEREST or SiSoft Sandra. Both will say somewhere whether or not, and at the very least they will give you the model number of your motherboard which you can look up to find out if it has PCI-E or not.

I'm currently using the Asus Sabertooth X58 motherboard with 3 x 4 gigs or Ram. (12 Total)

I'd like to fill the other 3 slots of 3 x 2 Gigs for a total of 18 Gigs of Ram.

Is this possible? Both Ram are a different brand, but with the same specs essentially. Is it safe?

Answer:Using all six RAM slots?

It may or may not work and really no one can give you a definitive answer. What you need to do is install the ram then run some stability tests ie prime95 and memtest. If it passes ALL tests, then it should be fine.

I assume the ram in question is on the qvl list for your mb. If it is not on the qvl list, then you add a further variable to the issue.

PCI 2.3 (which introduced universal 3.3v keying) predates the final 3.0 spec, so your Dell will use this standard unless it is very old indeed.

Question: PCI-E Slots

Hello guys .

I was looking @ motherboards on TigerDirect and noticed that the ones that have a PCI-E slot have this little slot under it as well.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?sku=I69-2146

I did some searching and apparently the big ones are PCI-E x16 and the small ones are x1.

My question: What is the smaller one used for?

Secondly I also noticed (on that same aforementioned page):
"...fully supports PCI Express, the latest I/O interconnect technology that speeds up the PCI bus."

What is "I/O interconnect technology"?confused

Is it anything like SLI or Crossfire or something?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for the "noobish" questions .

Thanks,

Description: I want to attempt to use all 3 PCI slots by plugging in 3 different Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 graphics cards. I'm currently using 1 right now. I know all my specs are old as hell but my good computer is broken atm, however, I have a burning desire to play League of Legends and I've got no money to get my good computer diagnosed and repaired.

PC Specs:
[NOTE] Computer is from 2005 lol
250W Dell Powersupply
Nvidia GeForce FX 5200
Intel i915P/i915G Dell Chipset (Mobo)
2Gb Ram
3Ghz Processor

Question: So my question is, can I do it? Can I use all 3 PCI slots and plug in 3 Nvidia GeForce FX 5200, then editing some stuff in the BIOS. If this does work, will I need some special connector to use all 3 slots?

I'm worried that because there will be many useless VGA ports and etc, that it may cause problems if they're all not being used (like requiring a connector). Also, if I do end up using 3 graphics cards, will it even improve the quality of a game like league of legends?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Very possible, since each stick runs your system in slot 1 without problems, but any stick gives problems if used seperately (solely) in slot 2 or 3 ....don't know the fix, if any, other than getting a 1 gig stick and keeping it in slot 1 ....anyone else?

USB and SASTA are two different things. It is possible to buy one PCI express card that has both. But such cards are not very popular. Question: AGP Slots

I have a Voodoo 3 3000AGP video card. It used to work perfectly, but ever since I had to have a shop reinstall Windows, it has not worked. I have tried reinstalling the drivers, but that has not helped. Whenever I go into games, they always have some kind of error when they are starting up. I never even get to see the title screens. The only thing I see is a gray screen and then my computer goes back to the desktop at 640X480 resolution rather than 800x600 which is what it is usually set to. Someone told me that I should make sure that the AGP slot on my motherboard is turned on, so I was wondering where I should go for that. Also, if anyone has any more ideas of what I can try, please respond.

Question: S10-3t PCI-e slots

So I've finally come into ownership of a Lenovo S10-3t. I've pined for a long time, and I love this little Netbook. I'm currently running PuppyLinux (TahrPup if you're curious) on it, and I've been considering a Win10 install on my 120 GB Samsung 850 Evo SSD.  My question for the group: the netbook has two (TWO!!) mini PCI-e slots. It seems such a waste to just have one of them sitting idle while the other services the Atheros b/g/n adapter. Can I: 1) upgrade to an 802.11ac wifi adapter (probably with Bluetooth, though I don't really care about that)? Is there a whitelist like there was on my T61? 2) Can I use the second mini PCI-e with an mSATA SSD? If not, what other cool things could I throw in there, aside from a Gobi 3G adapter (already in the T61)?

Answer:PCI slots

There might be an expander card that would allow you to double up, I'm not sure. Even if there is there is probably not enough physical space to do that. Maybe a "breakout" box? I'd check ask your local computer store and see.

Have you tried using your USB connection? This would probably be a better solution.

I recently got a new computer and it came with a not-so-good card and I wanted to install a new graphics card. The specs are http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=213658 < there.

I wanted to get this card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130318

On the Circuit City page it says I have zero available PCI-E x16 slots...does this mean that it's already occupied or my computer doesn't have one? And if the latter is true, can I install the above card into a PCI-E x1 slot?

hello i would just like to know how you can determine which type of pci slot you have?how do i know whether i have 32 bit or 64 bit pci slots?i am looking to buy a Ethernet card and some of them have 32 bits and some have 64 bits so i need to know.thanks for any help.

Answer:pci slots

Exactly what is the make and model of your computer and/or motherboard?  I believe it's highly unlikely you have 64-bit PCI slots.  Per http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/dec04/articles/pcnotes.htm:"I've never seen any 64-bit slots or expansion cards either, and none of the motherboards in any of the PCs I've had during the last 13 years have featured any PCI slots other than standard-width 32-bit ones running at 5V, with a 33MHz clock and 133MB/second maximum throughput."And, where did you even find a 64-bit Ethernet card?  Everything I see at Newegg.com is 32-bit; see          Network Interface Cards (x) > Interface : PCISo, get a 32-bit card.

Eventually I noticed that the graphics cards requires a 2.1 PCI slot and my computer is only 2.0 PCI.

So, my question is, how can I update my computer (without buying a completely new motherboard) to 2.1 PCI slots, instead of 2.0 PCI slots?

I got this problem yesterday when I was putting together a computer from old scrapparts... I overlooked the memory speed. I put in one PC133 256MB and one PC100 256MB and set them to 133mhz in bios. The memory at least tried to work at that speed but failed when starting windows. After setting speed to 100mhz in bios everything worked like a dream. Check that.

Could be that they're for legacy ports or that the VIA chipset supports up to two ISA devices and Soltek didn't disable them.

Most likely 3D Mark is plain wrong. Try Everest.

Question: RAM slots

Hi,

Is there any impact on the performance of a laptop under the following scenarios:

1) 6GB of toal RAM - 2GB in one slot and 4GB in another slot
OR
2) 8GB of toal RAM - 4GB in one slot and 4GB in another slot.

(ofcourse 8GB is larger than 6GB ........... but ......... I cannot recall where exactly I read about accessing times of the CPU on symmetrically placed RAM modules and un-symmetrically placed ones - equal RAM in dual channel v/s unequal RAM in dual channel)

Any thoughts - if someone has a deeper understanding on this?

Answer:RAM slots

The 8 GB configuration would likely run in dual channel mode.

I'm not so sure about the 6 GB configuration.

But dual channel is not a major deal. The impact is minor.

What does Resource Monitor tell you about RAM usage?

Question: AGP Slots

I have a K7VZA v3.2e 07/19/2001 motherboard. I just bought a Asylum Ti4200 SE 128M video card. It requries a AGP 2.0 4x's slot. I don't know if I have one, but it fits and works. However, When I boot up, it only recognizes my video card as a 32Mb card. I set my Apeture to 128. It also does fast writing. What would that be called on my Award Bios?

Answer:AGP Slots

You may want to try to update the bios:
http://www.ecs.com.tw/download/dw_spec.asp?product_id=186

What does it say in windows?

Your slot is 4x, the fast writing will be called that - look for it thru all the menus - a bios update may even add that.

lastly check that you actually got what you wanted - mistakes happen.

I am selling my iXtreme x6618 to my dad so i can build my own pc to which the sith lord has been most helpfull

The pc has 4gig of dual ram in it and can handle 8gig max, so as a gift i want to up the ram to 6gig so i will buy 2x2gig modules and keep 2 of the 1gig in there.

My question is the slots are blue yellow blue yellow. the ram is dual channel so how best should i put the different modules in

example ?

blue 2gig
yellow 1gig
blue 2gig
yellow 1 gig

or

blue 2 gig
yellow 2gig
blue 1 gig
yellow 1gig

? odd question i know but wanted to ask if it mattered.

btw the pc has Windows 7 ultimate 64 on it so would handle the 2gig upgrade.

Thanks for any advice offered.

Vale.

Answer:Which slots for odd RAM?

i've been told by someone that the same company and the same stick value should be in the same colour slots, like:
blue: 2gb
yellow: 1gb
blue: 2gb
yellow: 1gb

but im not sure about this, so wait for more responses

My brother brought home a computer that his college was going to trash, and there's no model printed anywhere on it.

What slots are those available?

Answer:What slots are these?

If you get out your flashlight and glasses, you certainly should be able to see a manufacturer's name somewhere on that motherboard.

From left to right, those slots look like PCI Express x 16, PCI Express x 1, conventional PCI, conventional PCI.

Question: 64-Bit PCI slots

i'm posting because i'm getting a pci video card...the radeon 9250. i see that you must have 64-bit pci slots to use this card. i have don't know what mine are and i don't know how to find out. I've looked in the device manager couldn't find anything there.and i don't have the mobo handbook. here are my system specs

PIII-1ghz
128mb pc 100

i don't know what kind of motherboard i have but it's a stock intel board..it doesn't have agp if that helps.

Hopefully someone can give me a good answer
thank you

Answer:64-Bit PCI slots

arent they only for mobos with 64bit cpu support? if you have a 64bit processor, then go ahead, it sould be 64bit.

what mobo do you have, try looking in the manual or on the internet. there should be some detailed specifications somewhere.

Question: RAM 4 slots or 2?

Hey all,

What is generally considered better and why?

I'm considering a RAM upgrade to 16GB for my Asus Maximus Hero VI motherboard. It has 4 memory slots for dual channel. My local supplier only has the memory I want in 2x4GB modules. If I purchase 2 kits to make up the 16GB is this less preferable to rather waiting for a 2x8 kit to be ordered. Is there any disadvantage to using all 4 slots as opposed to 2? I will be over clocking using the standard XMP profile only.

Future upgrading is not a concern as I will not likely need to move beyond 16GB for the life of this build.

Thanks!

Answer:RAM 4 slots or 2?

In reality, it doesn't matter. Either one will net almost exactly the same performance.

However, if you want to get technical, if it's only dual channel, then you will get better performance using only 2 slots with 8GB in each. The more chips and slots that you use, the longer it takes to find the piece of data it needs. It's not going to be anything you actually can notice, but if you ran a benchmark you'd see a slightly better score with just 2 as 4 chips is slightly more taxing for the cpu.

4 slots used looks better than 2 though. If you care about aesthetics.

yea, the slots next to your current ram is just for more ram.

i think the only way for you to get more pci-e slots would be to get another mobo.

Question: ram slots 1 & 3

My mother board (see signature) is surposed to suport dual channel pc 3200 ram. When i first built it a while ago, it would only let me put my ram in slots 2 and 4 which was fine then. But now Im wanting to uprgrade to 2 gigs, but when ever i put ram in slots 1 or 3 my computer wont start and I hear beep... beep... beep... beep... My power supply is only 20 pin, would this matter at all? Any ideas? I hope i dont have to buy a whole new mother board.

Answer:ram slots 1 & 3

Have you tried putting your original ram in slots 1 and 3? Did the manual say anything about how to dual channel them?

Question: psi slots

I have a new computer and wanted to replace the US Robotics 56k modem with a Hayes V90 Fax modem but there are no 64 pin slots just the small ones. Is this right? My old HP had 3 spare 64 and my wifes old Dell also has some 64. Should I take this back or what? toby

Answer:psi slots

In other words you have no isa slots I believe. Some motherboards provided legacy isa slots but in general all new hardware is pci. pci being a faster bus than isa. You really want to get a pci modem rather than isa

Question: Use of PCI slots

Hi
This is not a problem, just a search for enlightenment.
I fitted a USB2 controller card to my computer in the slot nearest to the edge of the motherboard and experienced LOTS of problems, after many hours of reinstalling windows and other useless exercises I moved the card to the slot nearest the centre of the motherboard and everything worked perfectly.
Are there any rules regarding the positioning of cards or is it just a case of trial and error?
Regards
phil

I have bought a 4Gb RAM card to upgrade my HP 250 G4 Notebook to 8Gb RAM, because it is very slow.I read in the HP literature that 2x 4Gb was a valid combination for this model, so based on that I assumed there was at least 2 slots. However when I opened up the machine I can only see the one slot. Can you please confirm whether it is possible to upgrade the RAM with an additional card; or do Ihave to purchase a single 8Gb card to replace the one that came with the laptop ?

Answer:How many RAM slots in the HP 250 G4 ?

Hi, Firstly you only read half of the story. HP 250 G4 is a series of MANY models/products and there are few options for RAM: MEMORYStandardDDR3L - 1600 (Transfer rates up to 1600 MT/s)Dual channel support (Intel® CoreTM i5 and i3 processors & Broadwell Pentium 3825U)Single channel support (Braswell Celeron N3050/Pentium N3700 )NOTE: Memory is non customer accessible / upgradeable2048 MB (2048 MB x 1)4096 MB (2048 MB x 2) (not applicable for Braswell Celeron N3050/Pentium N3700)4096 MB (4096 MB x 1)6144 MB (2048 MB x 1 + 4096 MB x 1) (not applicable for Braswell Celeron N3050/Pentium N3700)8192 MB (4096 MB x 2) (not applicable for Braswell Celeron N3050/Pentium N3700)8192 MB (8192 MB x 1)MaximumUp to 8 GB Secondary, your machine runs Windows 10 32 bit, 8GB won't help because 32bit OS won't access more than 4GB. And thirdly:  Memory is non customer accessible / upgradeable Regards.
