Dell XPS13 9360 Synaptics VFS7552 Touch Fingerprint Sensor issue

Question: Dell XPS13 9360 Synaptics VFS7552 Touch Fingerprint Sensor issue

Hi everyone,
Windows 10 updated itself to the Creators Update this week and I notice that my Fingerprint Senor will not work after sleep mode.
When I check the Device Manager it disappeared from device manager and if I choose the show hidden device it says the Synaptics VFS7552 Touch Fingerprint Sensor is disconnected.

I have updated the latest driver from Dell webpage and problem is persists. The only way to "fix" it is to reboot the Laptop and the Fingerprint Sensor will work but when it goes to sleep it will disconnect itself again.

Do anyone know how to fix this issue?
Thanks.

Regards,
Derek Tang

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently got a Dell XPS 13 9360 with a fingerprint reader. It works great, but the laptop needs to be on to work. Under power management for the fingerprint sensor in device manager, I noticed a little check-box labeled "Allow this device to wake up the computer." The box is greyed out, and I can't click it. Is there a workaround or way to make this box clickable?

Hi all, I've spent far too long trying to solve this by myself, and need to reach out to someone who might have resolved this issue. I've read tons of similar questions online, and rebooted dozens of times after trying many different things. I have a Carbon Touch 3444-CUU that can't see it's fingerprint reader. It used to work when brand new, but after lots of lenovo and windows updates, it now does not:  I am on Windows 8.1, with all updates. No problems in device manager.Touchchip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode) installed under Biometric devices fine.Power management set to _not_ turn off device to save power. The bios is 2.61. I suspect the problem is very low-level, because even the BIOS cannot find device when trying to set it up. If I have the lates BIOS, but it can't see the device - what can I do? Thanks everyone..

My Dell XPS13 is now showing "Battery Not Detected" in mouseover of the battery icon. Removing the powercable removes power from the laptop. It was working until today and the device is only 2 months old.
Both the Microsoft AC Adapter driver and the Microsoft-ACPI Battery driver is up to date.  I cannot update the BIOS as no battery is detected but when I check the BIOS it says that the 45W AC adapter is connected.
When I run diagnostics I get the following message at Step 5 (Running Your Tests) "We are unable to find the selected device. The device driver for your selected diagnostic is either not installed or installed incorrectly. Please ensure your device is enabled through your device manager or go to Drivers and Downloads to install the latest driver."
Any software suggestions please? I spend a lot of time on trains so only having a laptop that works when plugged into the mains is the equivalent of having a desktop.

Answer:Dell XPS13 9360 Battery Not Detected

The battery has failed - if you're under warranty, call Dell for a battery replacement.  If you're out of warranty, you can get a repair quote from Dell - or take the system to the shop of your choice to have the battery replaced -- or order a battery and replace it yourself (it's not that difficult to replace, though you'll need a Torx driver to do the job).

Whenever I plug in any headphone into my laptop I can immediately hear white static noise in the background. This doesn't happen when I play audio through the laptop's own speaker and there isn't a problem with the headphones because I don't experience the same problem on different laptops. Just to be sure I've tried a 5 other headphones/earphone combination from various companies and the white noise problem only ever shows up on the XPS13. I also checked the status of the audio drivers and windows says that they're are all up to date. I bought the laptop around 2/3 months ago and i've had this problem ever since.

Anyone know how to fix this issue?

Thank you

Hi, I'm a happy owner of a Dell E5270 and on The base plate there's a fingerprint sensor. However, when I install the recommended drivers there are no biometric devices. What is visible (in device manager) is Dell Control Vault w/o fingerprint sensor. Is it possible that there is a sensor but that The system lacks the optional fingerprint unit inside the laptop housing? There are no exclamation Marks in the device manager.
Secondly I've found the Dell DW5811E 3P10Y wwan card for the dell e5270 at a bargain price but i would like to know where to finf the cables in the housing? .

Thx!

I have a 1.5 year old Sattelite series A200 (PSAF6A) with inbuilt fingerprint scanner.

Recently I have become unable to use the scanner.
It keeps on coming up with an error "cannot find fingerprint sensor device".

Since it is inbuilt I don't know how I can fix it.

I have not installed anything recently so I don't know what has happened.

Please Help!
Thankyou

Answer:Satellite A200: Fingerprint issue - cannot find fingerprint sensor device

Hi

Did you try to reinstall the fingerprint software?
Check the Toshiba page for the latest software version.
Firstly uninstall the previous fingerprint software and reboot the notebook.
Clean the registry using the CCleaner and install the new downloaded version.

Good luck

I set up my brand new W700 with the fingerprint software and all my prints and it worked beautifully.  Then 2 days later my Lenovo external keyboard with fingerprint sensor arrived, I connected it and it couldn't find that sensor with the lid closed on my W700.  I did the updates and installed that Keyboards driver and it eventually worked.  Then I disconnected from my docking station, took the laptop on the road and it told me, the W700 integral fingerprint sensor could not be found. Lenovo support was rather unhelpful, telling me it was my "software" issue.  Their eventual suggestion was a total re-install, which I did because according to them, they don't support Windows XP Service Pack 3.  So, after the rebuild and re-install, I had the internal fingerprint sensor working, and when I re-docked it, the external sensor worked.  I have subsequently undocked the machine and I am back to where I started with a brand new machine that can not find it's internal fingerprint sensor at logon or when I go to ThinkVantage, yet it did ask for a fingerprint swipe for my email password and it accepted it! I know it's there, it's not damaged and I know it works, but Lenovo says it's a software issue, not a hardware one, yet the only hardware I have is theirs and their software drivers!  Any suggestions?

Answer:W700 Fingerprint Sensor Not found after External Keyboard w/Fingerprint sensor is connected

What is the FRU number on the external keyboard w/ FPR you purchased?  I can lookup the FPR vendor from it.
I suspect that the internal FPR and the external FPR are two different vendors requiring two different drivers that are not compatible.

I was runing Windows Vista on my Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 PSAGDE. Because my original key for Windows Vista was blocked I did a XP system recovery vith Toshiba CD. Everything work fine except the fingerprint sensor and the touchpad. True suite access manager says that it couldn't connect with senzor and the touch pad driver in the taskbar shows icone but it seems to be inactive. The touchpad doesn't work even if I pres FN+F9.

What should I do to save this problem.

Sory for my bad English, I come form Slovenia, I hope you understand.

Answer:Satellite Pro A300 PSAGDE Touch pad and fingerprint sensor problem

hi PZUFIC,
i think i understand your problem...

- make sure that the hardware is recognised by the system, check device manager!
- make sure you have the right driver installed

if one or both possibilities take place there might be a hardware defect...
ask a servicepartner for help!

I've been using Yoga 720 15 about a week and Synaptics fingerprint sensor worked well. Recently I tried to use it to log in, but there was no sign of Windows Hello working. I tried to look up in settings, but it says that Hello is not supporting on this device. Device manager, however, shows that sensor is fine, no exclamation points or something indicating a problem. I tried to update fingerprint driver, but no use Has anyone faced the same problem?

When I run my finger across the fingerprint sensor, the light is disabled as my finger gets close to the sensor.  Its almost as though it is detecting the change in the light.  I don't know if this is normal, but the end result is that upon swiping a finger, it does not read it and thus cannot be used.  Periodically, the light will stay on and Windows Hello will have no reaction.  Other times, ocassionally, when the finger is rolled to one side, then it flash orange and say it cannot read it. I get the impression that a USB reset is occuring.  Is there any tool to check the fingerprint sensor?  Or does anyone have any ideas?

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

location : Port_#0001.Hub_#0003

Unknown USB Device (code 43)
For the past few weeks or so one of my USB controllers seem to have been malfunctioning. but it was working fine a month ago ,before that i fully recovered my notebook by pressing f11 using hp recovery manager but i lost my finger print sensor as malfunctioned then i tried to clean reinstall windows 7 home premium 64
bit , and activated again using the genuine product keys . all drivers updated but not with fingerprint reader . if i remove the ribbon cable of fingerprint device from the zif connector then i see no more this error in device manager . if i again insert the cable in to that zif connector , then after power on i see the same error in device manager .
uninstalling the Unknown Device through Device Manager does absolutely nothing if any device is plugged in to USB. Doesn't matter which device, the device itself will continue working but Windows will try (and fail) to reinstall whatever driver it thinks is missing, so the Unknown Device comes back straight away.

Answer:unknown device fingerprint sensor issue

Hello salluhassan, I worked in an HP call center doing support on HP laptops I have seen this work on different problems from malfunctioning keyboards, USB ports, fingerprint scanners and laptops that refuse to power on. In fact it is the first step in a lot of HP's logic flows. This does not work every time nor does it solve all issues but it's worth a shot. HP refers to this as a hard reset, remove your battery unplug your A/C so no power is going to the NB hold power button down for 30 sec reconnect and power back on.

Answer:Satellite A300 - Fingerprint sensor issue

Hello Barry

Do you have US or European notebook model?

If you paid 2500$ for this notebook I presume you got it with preinstalled Vista operating system. With this ?factory stare? all should work properly and fact is that all preinstalled tools and utilities are tested.
Have you tested fingerprint sensor functionality with ?factory settings??

You know on the net you can find and read many stories about different problems but 80% of them say nothing like your report. No facts at all.

Have you got Toshiba recovery DVD for Vista 64-bit?
Do you use your own OS installation?
How you gone back to 32-bit? With Toshiba recovery image again?
Do you use newest IE8 or maybe Firefox?

Can you please post more information how you use your notebook and some facts that can be important for better understanding?

I have a Dell Studio 1558 laptop, It developed a fault recently. Although I had set the touch pad to "Off", because I prefer to use a mouse. It suddenly refused to stay off, and I had to keep manually switching it off.
I was also getting a text box, asking if I wished to uninstall the driver. I did uninstall the driver, thinking the touch pad would stay off.. But no... Now it stays on.
I have tried to reinstall the driver , but it fails for some reason.. Is there another way to switch the touch pad off..
Any help you can offer would be very appreciated, as i was unable to get help from Dell.

I miss the "middle click" dearly!
Is there any chance to assign this instead of e.g. "Cortana", or any 3/4-finger gesture?
I'm considering to search for compatible Synaptics drivers, because I'd also like to adjust some other aspects of this TP. Any comments on this?
Furthermore, are there any ideas on TP-care, so it does not look that(!) worn out, even when just barely used yet?
Regards, Parky

Greetings,Thanks for writing to us.We do not have an option to assign middle click using Cortana or 3/4 finger gesture. We regret to inform you that we do not have Synaptics driver to provide additional settings on Touchpad. You can use Touchpad as normal. If you think that Touchpad would worn out due to normal usage, you can use external mouse.

Hi,

A few days ago, my TrueSuite reinstalled itself, and then asked to restart the computer, which i did. But the things is, when i turned the laptop back on from the restart, TrueSuite asked to restart again. This happened quite a few times, so i reset the laptop to a system restore point i had created a few days ago.

This deleted all my fingerprints, which i dont mind, but when i go to enroll my fingerprints again, it says, "Error: Could not open finger print sensor."

PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS!!

Thanks.

Answer:TrueSuite Fingerprint issue - Error: Could not open finger print sensor

Check the Toshiba European driver page for newest TrueSuite Fingerprint software.
Remove your old fingerprint software from the system and reinstall the new downloaded software from the Toshiba driver website.

Then configure it again, create the finger prints and enjoy the notebook.

When docking with the lid closed, I sometimes get unexpected results. For example, my external monitor will remain at the same resolution as the laptop (150% character size) or sometimes it will scale to what it should be (100%). When it doesn't scale down and uses the same display settings as the laptop, the resolution is still 1920x1080 but everything on screen is huge.
When opening the lid and closing it back again, it often resolves the issue and my external monitor goes black for a second and turns back on with the proper settings.
My question is, what settings should I use for the close lid. I currently have sleep for all of them. Should I select leave on when closing the lid?
Second question: When I dock my XPS, should the lid be open or closed or does it even matter. I just find that if I dock when the lid is open and then close the lid, the monitor resolution is ok. When docking with the lid closed, the monitor sometimes doesn't scale down as explained above.
Just a note that I did install all the drivers and bios explained in the article about how to troubleshoot the TB16 -
Thanks

Hello,
I had been using the TB16 dock with my XPS13 Linux laptop, no issues.  Everything is perfect.
I upgraded my BIOS to 2.1.0, and now the USB keyboard and mouse (through TB16)  stop working after a few seconds.
If I unplug and plug them in the TB16, they work for a few seconds, then stop again.
To use them, I have to connect them directly to the computer USB ports.
I have a monitor and speakers in the TB16, and they are still working fine.  Ethernet connection is fine.
Perhaps TB16 needs an update now?  Has anyone else run into this?

Answer:XPS13 9360, BIOS 2.1.0, TB16

If you scanned this forum you'd notice that there has been an outbreak of dock USB problems since the recent batch of BIOS updates for a number of XPS and Precision laptops. No official comment from Dell so far...
Some report fixing the issue by rolling back to an older BIOS. For others it didn't work. Disconnect the dock before attempting.
There were a few suggestions that the recently released updates to the Thunderbolt driver and TB16 firmware must be applied as well, maybe also the ASMedia USB driver. When doing this, one should check if the update actually worked. No idea how this goes on Linux.

Hi, I have the Lenovo Yoga 720 15 IKB 80X7 (4K display), since many days ago, I'm currently posting this on 7-20-2017, the fingerprint of my laptop stopped working so now In the windows hello sign in menu it shows a message in which it says "Windows Hello is not available on this device", the fingerprint option doesn't appear there anymore. When I check the issue on the "update device drivers menu" an exclamation mark appears next to the synaptics drivers WBDI, in the section of biometric devices. When I click on it to see more information it appears this message: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31){Operation Failed}The requested operation was unsuccessful." I show you in the picture the information I get in the driver tab. I do not have the option to roll back the driver so I can't make it work again. I checked and it is the last driver available so far but it doesn't work. By the way I have the same exclamation mark and the same message of error in the driver "system interface foundation driver", code 31..., is there any link with it?I've already re installed windows twice through the option "reset this pc" from the configuration menu, one without deleting my files and the other removing all, but I still had the same issue with the fingerprint reader since the beginning of the new start, it didn't work. Does anybody have the same issue and a solution? Thanks in advance

Hi, all. Bought a new Dell XPS13, (9360). Wanting to start with a clean machine, I'm trying to wipe the drive and install Windows 10 from a USB. But I am receiving an error message each time I try: A media driver your computer needs is missing.  When I get to the window that asks "Which type of installation do you want?" I select Custom, and when it proceeds to the next page, "Where do you want to install Windows?", the message appears "We couldn't find any drives. To get a storage driver, click Load driver." Then, when I do that the next page says to insert the installation media containing the driver. If it helps, I also tried using another USB drive, (one is a 3.0, the other is a 2.0), and tried in both USB ports on the laptop. Also shut off Secure Boot option in the BIOS. Same results. . .keeps asking for the storage driver.
I'm stumped.  I did this last year with another new XPS13, (9350), and it was fast and easy.  Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?  Thank you.

Answer:New XPS13, (9360), Unable to do a clean install

You need to have the Intel RST (NVMe) driver on a flash drive -- when indicated, pause the install and load the driver.  Then the drive will be seen by the installer.
Look in the drivers section under Serial ATA.

Hi,
I have both version of XPS 13 9350 and 9360.
I fully charge the battery to 100% and then shutdown the computers and turn it off.
If I start them again after 2 days I have lost ca 10% of battery charge - only 90% charge left, although they were completely turned off (no standby!) ....
After a week without turning on, I lose 20-25% of charge. As written without working on the XPS 13.
I also have a Dell Latitude 7280 from work and it loses only 4% charge within a week. This seems normal in my opinion.
The battery was exchanged for the 9350 by Dell but this have brought nothing. Something drains battery on the two XPS when switched off.
Someone have an idea or can even report how it is with you?

Greetings everyone.
For approximately one month I have experienced problems with the touchpad of my laptop.
I randomly get a Code 10 in the I2C HID Device (a request for the HID descriptor failed). It renders the touchpad unusable or sometimes it just limits its functionality (like scrolling with two fingers and other gestures). I have already tried all available versions of the Intel Serial IO Driver and made a hard reset of the computer with no success.
At the present time all drivers have been updated and Windows 10 is in its build 16299.19.
Could it be a hardware issue? Thank you very much in advance.

I've purchased a Dell XPS 13 9360 and I've had problems with the video flickering.  It happens about every 5-10 minutes for about 5 seconds.
I've spent probably 30-40 hours trying to resolve the issue and I'm pretty fed up with it over the last 2-3 months.  I didn't notice it enough to decide ultimately to get my money back but it is too late.

I've run the diagnostic tool, and it apparently failed.  A technician was sent to my house to replace a part of the computer not related to video, and the part was refurbished.  I declined opening the device up and wanted to get my money back.  Apparently this test always fails unless the computer is plugged in apparently.  I found this out after the technician left...good I didn't let him replace a non-related part!
I've realized my 30 day return window has passed.  Gulp! That's after spending a few hours here and there trying to resolve the issue. Now I have a machine with an issue that is going to take plenty of hours to diagnose.
I've updated the BIOS, updated the Video drivers, to no avail.  I've now engaged Dell Chat support, who has stepped me through the entire process of doing this all over again.
At this point, I've asked for an escalation.  Normally this has been easy in the past, but I'm being forced to step through a repeat of the troubleshooting process which I've already accomplished
At the end of the day, I'm serious... Read more

I am planning on buying the dell xps 13 9360 (Kaby lake) FHD. I've heard that the dell xps 13 has an adaptive brightness issue that persists for many user and Its seems that Dell has provided a fix for the QHD version of the laptop but the fix for the FHD. Or has the issue been completely fixed on the dell xps 9360 FHD? Thanks.

Hi guys, I hope someone can help me out here.
I've just purchased a new XPS 13 and it's great except for one issue - hibernation is happening too quickly from sleep.
I've already tried all the power management settings to no avail.
I have set my "hibernate after" setting to 720 minutes. But even after 30 minutes of sleeping, the laptop will automatically go into hibernation mode.
Is there something overriding my "hibernate after" settings?
I have also switched off the Cortana override in power settings:

Go to device manager to check if the driver version is 11/xx/2008, if so, unintall it, and then reinstall the fingerprint software from Lenovo.  It will install the driver with version dated 10/xx/2008.  This solved the problem for me.

I am using win 8.1 (fully updated) and used to have working fingerprint logon. Now it stopped working. Suddenly I can not use Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro (V 8.01.42(x64)) anymore. Whenever I try to start the application, it asks me for my Windows password, but then responds - "The device is not connected to the computer. Please insert the authentication device." OTH, in the device manager, under Biometric devices, I see Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=0017) Also windows fingerprint sign-in option is greyed out. Any hints, what can I check?

Try this:
1.  reboot and then press F1 at "Lenovo" logo to enter BIOS setup
2.  Change to "Security" menu
3.  change to "Fingerprint" item
4.  Choose the option for "Reset Fingerprint Data" - what happens?
5.  Press F10 to save and exit
6.  Try to enroll fingers again - what happens?

Hi. I've searched this whole forum and it seems that no one has this problem... I've downloaded the latest fingerprint software (5.8.2.4462).Installed the necessary drivers. (p961b_fprx64_582ww) The driver installed smoothly as well as opening the software, but when I tried to enroll, and this message, "Cannot find fingerprint sensor device", pops up. It did the same thing when tried clicking on the tutorial. I've looked into the setting, but there's no option of enabling or disabling the sensor. The "Bio service" in Device manager is enable and working properly. So I'm just lost... Any hint/help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I've heard that people are still experiencing coil whine on their Dell XPS 13 9360 laptop. Has there been any fixes to this problem?

More replies
Relevance 72.57%

Here's the video, so you can see what I'm talking about. Basically, XPS 13 9360 QHD, has this issue when in a dimly light room, the brightness will be automatically set to the max, and won't be changed by either bios settings (you can adjust brightness level there for battery/AC), latest driver settings, or by keyboard keys.

It'd work normally, but then it'd start going bonkers, but then it'd go back to functioning normal.
Or just stay at max brightness.
I tried disabling DBC, installing latest graphics driver from Dell website, or Intel website using this method, installing latest bios, and other recommended drivers, disabling sensor monitoring service in "services.msc", didn't help.

I recently purchased the XPS 13 9360 (Kaby Lake) and have been using for a couple days.
I've noticed coil whine in the form of static sounds coming from the left side of the laptop, near the power connector.
There is very minimal noise when the laptop is on battery, where the noise is audible when your ear is next to the keyboard.
However, when connected to the power outlet the static becomes quite audible at a normal viewing distance. The static occurs frequently (especially when scrolling).
I tend to work in quite spaces with little ambient room noise, as I am easily distracted.
Is there a solution to resolving this coil whine issue? I feel like at this price point this should not be an issue (especially since is was well known in the earlier models).

Hi guys, I was trying to mess around with the touchpad driver on my new bought xps 13.
I tried with the latest driver on Synaptics website, but it didn't help much.
Then I found a driver on dell website that turned out to be a firmware update. Its for the 2015 version xps 13 so its outdated. I tried it anyways, and then the touchpad stopped working.
Right now the device manager cannot even detect my touchpad, and the firmware version shows from firmware update software changed from 2xxxxx to unknown.
It would be much appreciated if someone can give me the latest/compatible touchpad firmware for dell xps 13 9360. The executive file called SynReflash.exe, and it comes with mup file and package file.

I hope to get the firmware to and hope they fix the problem so not more people make the same mistake.

Dear all,
I am in a trouble with Advanced Power Setting on Windows 10.
There are limited options only when I go to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings\Change advanced power settings in particular Intel (R) Dynamic Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Settings.
For some of the missing options I followed this page and fixed: www.eightforums.com/.../50890-options-missing-power-options-advanced-settings.html
However I could not add Intel (R) Dynamic Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Settings in advanced power settings even though followed these links:

Answer:T400 Fingerprint sensor

I think I can help desync. Enter BIOS setup (F1 at boot) head to security menu and then fingerprint.  There is an option to clear the fingerprint chip.  That worked for me when I had what seems to be the same problem.  This was on a machine I reloaded windows on and had set up the FPR previously.  I guess once you set it up the first time the FPR gets tied to that application instance until you clear the chip.

I ran MS Windows updates then Lenovo updates through Lenovo companion program.I notice after applying proposed fingerprint driver (Synaptics Metallica MOC touch FP driver - V5.2.3515.26)  sensor doesn't work anymore ... To log in I'm forced to use the PIN code or password way. Sensor no longer recognizes my finger. In fact it is the sensor itself that is no longer functional (no light). Obviously before I tried to configure the sensor again but without success ... Hi, I lost finger print functions lately. I thought it might have been new Power Manager 2.51 but I did a system Restore from a point two days ago and Finger Print sensor was still broken. The symptoms are: login screen will always tell me to wait for fingerprint sensor to be ready (which never happens); when trying to enroll new fingerprints it says "cannot communicate with the  sensor"; there is no sensor information utility in control panel classic view. I tried reinstalling fingerprint software and it stays the same. I tried taking the palm rest of T61 and  connecting to W500 and then it did find a new device (biometric co-processor). Connecting original palm rest again didn't change anything. Device Manager has AuthenTec device in it but there is no category for 'biometric devices' (It is there on T61) What to do next?

lukaszsw,

For W500 on Vista, in the Device Manager the FPR will be listed under "Personal Identification Devices".

If you continue to have issues that re-installing the device software does not resolve, I would say that this is a perfect time to utilize your warranty and have the palm rest replaced.

So I too am getting the "Cannot communicate with sensor" error in Vista 64-bit. Does anyone have the fingerprint sensor working in Vista 64-bit? I called support but they were convinced it was a hardware problem & directed me to the local support office.  However my machine is setup as a dual boot with Windows Server 2008 64-bit installed as well and the fingerprint sensor works just fine on that side. This convinces me it isn't a hardware issue. I've checked the drivers for the fingerprint sensor & TPM module and they are identical in both OS'. The only thing I've noticed is in Vista 64-bit, the "AuthenTec Fingerprint Service" (ATservice.exe) consistently consumes 30-50% of the CPU according to Task Manager. If I shut that service down, no issues. The only thing going through my mind is Windows Server 2008 does not have A/V running... just a clean install. But I have tried disabling A/V with no success. I've uninstalled everything related to the biometric device and the ThinkVantage software, did a cold reboot, disabled firewall & A/V, reinstalled the ThinkVantage fingerprint software and did a cold reboot. When it came back up, A/V & firewall was still disabled. Same issue... Thoughts?

Last June Synaptics announced a series of biometric fingerprint readers. The news said that they should be available in the 4th qtr. 2016. Were can I go to get one?

Answer:Where can I buy the new Synaptics's USB fingerprint reader?

Hi and welcome.
This was asked before.
I still don't see it anywhere for sale yet.
There must bugs with it or it was cancelled by Synaptics.

Was looking at premiere the model xps13win10non1705_5171p includes a 1920x1080 touch screen. Is that correct? I am wondering since no where else is the combo of 1920x1080 and touch available?
Is there a model that includes Core i5, 16 GB, Touch and 128 GB? That is my ideal config and then I can drop in 960 Pro of my own.

Answer:XPS 13 9360 with 1920x1080 Touch?

From Dell, the touchscreen is available only with the 4K (QHD) screen.  All of the FHD screens are non-touch.

The Signature Editions are exclusive the the Microsoft store - you'll need to buy from them, not from Dell or another reseller.  It looks like they do not have a 128G version - they're all 256 or 512.
It also looks like while the 9350 (older version) has a FHD touchscreen, all the 9360s are showing only QHD touchscreens.

My mouse is connecting fine, but it doesnt power up easily. If I stop using it for a few minutes, it powers down, presumably to save the battery. But then it doesnt start up again when I twist the two halves of the mouse.
I keep twisting the mouse slowly to power up and nothing happens, and then randomly, after several tries, it will power up again.
I had this problem with the same mouse and, thinking it was faulty, ordered another, but the same thing occurred.
I like the mouse's shape and weight, but this power issue is a bugbear.

Answer:Dell bluetooth mouse WM615 with Dell XPS13 - power-up issues

Same issue here. Dell's troubleshooting advice to uncheck the option for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" on the Power Management tab of the bluetooth radio in the Device Manager did not help either.
Who knows a solution for this issue?

Hi everyone,
I have a new hardware:

Dell XPS13 (9360) with Thunderbolt 3
Dell U3417W 34" monitor  (3440x1440 px)

I have prepared everything on my table because I had no idea that new Dell only has Thunderbolt 3 and no mini display port. I was kind of surprised (in a bad way) that I will need another reduction.
The problem is that I can only input display port, mini display port and HDMI into the new Dell U3417W monitor. I am not sure how much resolution I can squeeze from HDMI, so what is left are those display ports.
Should I buy USB-C -> Display port cable like for e.g. Startech USB Type-C to Displayport cable, 1m (CDP2DPMM1MB) which could possibly do the job? Or perhaps even some Thunderbolt 3 cable?
I need to have 3440x1440 px @ 60 Hz where some of those cables support only @30 Hz and they do not explicitly state that 3440x1440px resolution is supported.
I would rather avoid those bugged Dell docking stations where the whole internet (e.g. Amazon) is snowed by users complaints.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi Folks, maybe I'm missing something here - how can I use the fingerprint sensor on my BIOS-Password on the SL300? It should be possible, right? I can't get it to work. Greetingsplant

Answer:Fingerprint sensor for Bios PW on SL300

Well, I don't know if the SL300 (...haven't seen or worked with one till yet) still uses an UPEK based sensor and thus the same ThinkVantage based fingerprint sensor software as the common other Thinkpad notebooks, but in order it does (?), you might read through the folling sort of ThinkVantage PDF user guide, which explains the steps to take in detail. --> http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/thinkvantage_en/upekmstus.pdf  However, keep in mind to always be very careful when trying out things like setting up BIOS-passwords and the like, so that you still might can access your ThinkPad, even if somethings from the fingerprint software level might have be leaved in a sort of undetermined condition. Also make first sure that your SL300 uses the above mentioned UPEK based sensor and ThinkVantage software. Hope the above link helps at least a little bit?

Hi,

I bought my Qosmio X300 -12H on 3d this month in UK, and just found that it does not have a fingerprint sensor.
As the User's Manual book and the pics on Toshiba website show, the fingerprint sensor should be in the middle of the two touch pad control buttons, but it's not there.
Is there anything wrong?

You can see it in the pic blow.

<br />
Another problem is the right-of-center keyboard (the part above the arrow keys) seems to be loosing.
The entire right part of the keyboard makes noise when I'm fast typing.

My purchase link is <a href="http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/series/Qosmio-X300-series/1056665/" target="_blank"><em>http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/series/Qosmio-X300-series/1056665/</em></a>

Can anyone help me please?

Regards

Answer:No fingerprint sensor on my Qosmio X300-12H?

Are you 100% sure that this Qosmio X300-12H model should be equipped wit the fingerprint reader?
I doubt it.

Fact is that the same notebook series (in your case Qosmio X300) was equipped with different hardware specifications. This means that some X300 can support the fingerprint and some model don?t support this feature.

I have checked the X300-12H details on the page which you have linked in the post above and there is no fingerprint mentioned!

Hello, I just got a new T400 and the fingerprint software says it cannot find the sensor during launch and when I run the software and configure the settings.  I have installed the ThinkVantage 5.6 and 5.8 Software and don't know how to fix this issue.  Can someone please help?

Answer:T400 Fingerprint Sensor Not Found

If you installed a fingerprint software with the version number 5.6 or 5.8 you installed the wrong software for your computer. Make sure you install one of the following versions: For XP/Vista 32:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70598 For Vista 64:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70599 The version you installed is for the older T series and not for the T400. When you download drivers and software from Lenovo make sure you check what systems that is supported. It usually says "The following systems are supported:" and if you model isn't listed it's not for your computer. Message Edited by gan on 07-01-2009 01:12 AM

My fingerprint sensor was working fine for a couple of weeks I had this brand-new W541. Today it is suddenly dead. * When I go to BIOS, enter into Fingerprint Sensor settings and ask it to reset stored fingerprint data, BIOS tells me that there's no fingerprint sensor in this machine. * Windows 10 displays Fingerprint Sensor as a hidden device in Device Manager. It says that this device is not connected to the computer. * Additionaly, under USB Devices in Device Manager I now have some unrecognized device listed as "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)". Is there any way to try to revive the fingerprint sensor? P.S. Hardware check in Lenovo Solution Center does not detect any issues with the hardware. But AFAIK it does not even attempt to check the fingerprint sensor.

This is a sure sign of hardware failure.  The fingerprint sensor needs to be replaced.  Unfortunately, there is no other way to fix this problem.

Using Windows 7, Fingerprint Sensor is displayed in Devices and Properties indicate device is working properly. But how do I use it? I have a Toshiba Fingerprint Utility but when I click that I get an error window <<Failed to connect to sensor." Since I also don't know how to use this device I am stuck. What to do next? And, by the way, where can I go for a user manual? Is there one? Do I need one? Just bought this as a used computer and it works fine except for the webcam and the fingerprint sensor which is more down to my ignorance about how to use them I guess. Thx.

Fingerprint sensor problems seem to be common. I've looked through the posts & tried the various suggestions to no avail. Here is the basic info:Thinkpad T510 type 4313-CTOWindows 7 Professional (64-bit)BIOS: 6MET49WW (1.12)Biometric Device driver: UPEK version 1.2.0.194Lenovo Fingerprint Software UPEK 5.9.2.5912 Error message when attempting to enrol a fingerprint:E7210005 Cannot enrol userE7210005 Cannot update passportE7210005 Cannot find fingerprint sensor device The device manager and PC-Tools diagnostics both say that the sensor is working properly. Here is a summary of previous suggestions & ideas of what is causing the problem (no particular order): 1. Windows updates the device driver to a driver that is not compatible with the software:I did a factory install without any internet connection but the problem still occurred. 2. Software confusion between the Authentec and UPEK sensors. The T510 definitely has the UPEK sensor. The device manager lists the driver as being a UPEK driver. The update that was done (point 3) was the UPEK version. 3. Update the driver to the latest available.Did that but the same problem. (existing software uninstalled 1st, existing device driver uninstalled & deleted in Device Manager, reboot after this before software & driver upgrade, followed by another reboot).Lenovo Fingerprint Software UPEK 5.9.2.5980, device driver UPEK ver 1.3.0.214downloaded from:  http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/supp... I got an acer travelmate 6465WLMi running 64-bit Windows 7 and after some digging around I managed to get the smartcard and 4 in 1 cardreader to work with drivers from a different travelmate.
Only problem I have now is that I can't find any 64-bit drivers for the fingerprint sensor. When I went to check the first time device manager showed it as an SMSC fingerprint sensor but checking their site didn't help at all, does anyone know a working driver?

*edit*
minor update :
http://www.authentec.com/win7beta64.cfm didn't work although one site mentioned they're used in acer laptops...guess not in mine

Give this a try. Not sure whether it will work, but it's worth a try.

I have two week old X1 Yoga (20FQ) and the fingerprint sensor seems to work very unstable. It worked fine for a while and and suddenly in Windows 10 login it didn't work at all. It seems to read multiple times as when I put my finger close to sensor it immediately gives "Too many failed attempts" message and asks to login with PIN-code. I removed the device and re-installed the latest drivers from Lenovo support page and it worked again for two days. And now again I cannot login using fingerprint sensor. As the issue was resolved for couple of days with reinstalling the device, it might not be a HW-issue. Is there any good diagnostic tools available or is there a place to change the sensitivity of the sensor? Many thanks in advance for all the help!
