I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Z400 that was bought in 1st-2nd week of May, 2013. I have a problem that started on May 21, 2013, my laptop battery suddenly drops from 25% to 6%. I've read some posts that it requires firmware update to work normally.. This is the site

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS035310

Is there any steps needed while performing this Upgrade? Is it safe? Will it fix my problem?  By the way, I'm here in Philippines and the Ideapad Z400 was bought by my uncle somewhere in Saudi Arabia, and he delivered it to me when he got back here. I started using the laptop on May 8, 2013. Thanks..

Hi, I suddenly encountered a battery problem in my laptop, IdeaPad Y510P. It seems like other folks have the same problem in Ideapad series.   When I plug in a charger, the laptop shows that battery is charing but, it never goes above 7% (w/ max battery life mode). According to Energy Management, battery status is fine.  After searching similar issues, I think it may be a problem with firmware, but I was not able to find a firmware update for IdeaPad series, Windows 8.1.... I have been using my laptop over a year, but never had this problem before. Can you please guide me through how to fix this issue?  Thanks for your help..!

After that reboot and install it back and see if there is a difference specially on the battery status. Also basing on your statement that the unit is with you for more than a year and you have not encountered any problem except recently it would seem that a battery replacement might be in order. Again before jumping into conclusion check the ac adapter and battery based on the procedure given in your hardware maintenance manual.

Answer:Ideapad Z-500 - Battery firmware updated but still battery not charging

hi Aledef,

If you have the Lenovo Energy Management installed, can you check the following:

1. For Windows 7:
Ensure that Maximum Battery Life is selected

For Windows 8:
Ensure that Conservation Mode is disabled.

2. Uninstall the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method under the Device Manager > Battery
   - Link to picture

When finished, reboot the machine and observe if the battery is now charing above 59%. If the problem remains, try charging the battery while the computer (about 30mins) and see if it goes pass the 59% mark.

If the problem persists, I recommend you contact lenovo on how to go about getting a replacement battery.

hi brice572,

The battery on that Z500 is showing a sign of imminent failure. Can you try to perform a battery gauge reset to fully dragin the battery and reset the charge capacity. To do this, open the Lenovo Energy Management > Battery > Battery Gauge Reset (see spoiler)
 Spoiler (Highlight to read)
If the above steps doesn't work, you need to call lenovo on how to go about replacing the battery.

Hi, I have this brand new z500 and it's been useless couple of months, today I take it back in use and of course plug in charger. After about half an hour I'll start the computer and battery icon says 28% and charging, usually icon is animated but now nothing happens. Also when I unplug power cord, computer shuts down immediately, same like if  you remove battery. Could the battery has been died during the time computer was unused? Is there any way to bring it back to life, or do I have to send this machine to warranty service?

Answer:ideapad z500 battery charging stuck in 28%

Under Energy Management set the battery setting to "Maximum Battery Life".

Answer:IdeaPad Z500 battery is out of juice and it wont charge

Hi thePirate,

Welcome to the community,

The fact that the laptop has an internal battery limits a bit the troubleshooting I can provide.

Are you able to get a hold of another power cable to try completely rule out that it might be the charger?

If not then realistically the only thing I could recommend is to get in touch with support and to arrange a repair.

Sorry I couldn't offer more help.

Answer:Ideapad Z400, Z500, Z510 battery will not charge -...

Hi CuriousFox ,

Greetings.

To isolate fastest is to have another battery to use or charging the original battery on a known working compatible laptop.
The power checkout guide of the hardware machine manual provides steps to check battery charging integrity (example form Z510 manual page 21) .

You can also try plugging the laptop but not turning it on for 1-2 hours checking if there would be changes with the battery indicator LED.

Would it be the same using similar energy manager and operating system that came originally with the machine?
How is the battery health and battery report?

Update us how it goes.

Regards

I have two Lenovo Y40-70 computers that I purchased within a couple weeks of each other.  They came with Windows 8.1 but I upgraded to Windows 10. A few months ago, I noticed that my computer battery meter was reading 100% for an hour.  I continued to work unplugged until the battery died while still reading 100%.  I recharged and the battery again read 100% for more than a couple hours, then died.  So the battery lifetime is as good as always, but the reading is not right.  When I reboot, it still reads 100%. Strangely, the second system, whcih I had not used for a while, was OK, but a few days later, it started doing the same thing (though it was reading 87%, the charge when the computer last worked right.  I suscpect that this happened after a critical update, which the second system went through later. Recently, I downloaded from the Lenovo website the newer power management software on both computers, and it did not help. Then I noticed the Battery recall so downloaded the "Lenovo Battery Utility 2015" to see if my system was afffected by the problem.  When I run the utility, I get the mssage "No Battery Detect."  So it would appear that there may be an issue with the software detecting the batter. Since I can't know the state of the battery (it appears to not want to recharge until it's empty, I gues because it thinks it's 100% charged), I cannot count on this computer when it's not plugged in. Now I ... Answer:Z500 ideapad RAM upgrade

hi Rajesh,

Welcome to the Forums.

From page 26 of the HMM, the Z500 can take up to:

Standard  Memory ? DDR3-1600/1333MHz SODIMM 2 (max 16 GB)

A 12GB (8GB+4GB) upgrade is also feasible but if the machine came with 4GB (2GBx2), I would go for an 8GB(4GBx2) or 16GB (8GBx2) depending on your needs and workload.

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

This configuration with the RAM is OK

Based on the Datasheet of your model This can go to 8GB / 16GB
Ive highlighted the option you prefer with the RAM

About the Discrete NVIDIA GPU, Itis soldered to the Mainboard thus not letting any upgrade to it.
Upgrading the board means upgrading the whole Motherboard, which might not be preferred since it may only give you a minimal upgrade in terms of performance.

Hope this info helped

This is in response to the problem everyone is having with the battery not charging when plugged in. I found this in the guide for my idea pad Z400. It should help many of you to finally make peace with your battery Battery (B):      Battery Mode (B-1):  By using the battery maintenance function, it is possible to extend the battery lifespan. Before you use this function, read the precaution. Energy Management 8.0 can automatically track your habit of battery use, and then provide suggestions on selecting a battery maintenance mode for extending the battery lifespan. Two battery modes are provided: Maximum Battery Life and Optimized Battery Health.       Maximum Battery Life: In this mode, the battery has the most powerful charging capacity. Note that this mode cannot optimize the battery circle lifespan.       Optimized Battery Health: In this mode, the battery limits charging to 60% of its full capacity. This can reduce the battery degradation and extend the battery lifespan.

i got an ideapad z500 a couple of days ago, and the laptop is giving me around 1.5 - 2 hours of battery backup after a full 100% charge..the laptop is also overheating and gets really hot around the touchpad and under the keyboard..i called up customer care, and they checked it via some remote access software, but didn't give me any solution other than a battery gauge reset and dust removal, both of which i had already done. they also gave me an address and a phone no. of a service centre , but no one answers the phone there.. also, the dealer told me this laptop was covered with a 2 year warranty, first year on site and also a 2 year adp, but the customer support guy said that the latop only had 1 year carry in warranty and no adp..wth is this???

Answer:ideapad z500 overheating and giving 1.5 hours of battery backup

hi nipun1989,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Overheating issues are commonly caused by dirty / faulty fan or a dried out thermal paste. If you get 80-90C+ @ approximately 25C-30C room temperature and you're on normal usage (i.e. browsing the web, watching video, opening document files, etc.), then you may need to send the unit for service to correct the overheating issue.

As for the ADP (Accidental Damage Protection) warranty, did you purchase this directly from lenovo? Normally, a unit will have an OEM warranty for 1yr. If you:

1. Purchase the ADP warranty from lenovo, you will need to scan a copy of your proof of purchase and contact lenovo support on how to go about updating your warranty

2. Purchase the ADP warranty from the retailer (i.e. bestbuy, etc.), this warranty will kick-in after the OEM warranty expires and you will need to take the unit to the retailer if you get any problems on the unit.

Hope this helps

Hi, I have updated my laptop z500 with the latest energy management software from lenovo. I am mostly using my laptop on AC charging. I have read in some forum topics that we can lock the battery at 60 percent charge and then use the laptop on AC power. I am not able to find the options in my version. Please, let me know the steps to do so. By the was I am running on Win 8.

Answer:Ideapad z500 energy management how to lock battery at 60 % charge

hi danish_jpr,

Can you try to:
1. Open Lenovo Energy Management on the system notification area and set battery status to "Optimized Battery Health"
 Link to picture

2. Use the computer just with the battery and drain it up to 10% or until the system goes to sleep/hibernate. When the unit turns off or reaches 10% battery life, plug the AC adapter and observe the battery status (the charge should now be halted at 60%).

These are the differences between the two processor from Intel's site:Intel vPro? TechnologyIntel Virtualization TechnologyIntel Trusted Execution Technology If they are compatible they should work in your unit. However, since it does not one possible reason I can think of is again Lenovo's restrictions just like in their wifi card. I could be wrong. Try the Ebay processor in another unit (not necessarily a Lenovo unit) to be sure it is not defective.

Hello. First of all, thank you for taking the time to view my post and potentially help me out. So the problem is that my laptop will not start. I was using my laptop here one day and it was working fine, but it was unable to charge for some reason and ended up shutting down so I went to bed. The next morning I tried turning it on, but it was dead. I have tried a different charger as my sister also has a lenovo laptop, but this did not work either. I would think if the battery was the problem, the laptop should still be working with the charger in? I have tried calling support line several times with no answer, the warranty has gone out and I forgot where i bought the laptop sadly. Really frustrated over here, and any help is highly appreciated!

Taehyung wrote:Hi, I suddenly encountered a battery problem in my laptop, IdeaPad Y510P. Try uninstalling the Energy Management program. Reboot then install it. You should download it first from the site if you don't have a copy of it from drivers folder.

Hi, I recently upgraded to windows 8.1 and my battery won't charge anymore. I saw a similar post with firmware update solution suggeste back in May 2013, but I also saw there was no support for windows 8.1 on the software. Is there any fix for this issue out there? If not my product is still under warranty, any suggestions? Regards,Dhruv

I tried to install a battery  update on my Lenovo T520.  The update fails with an "internal error" message being reported.  The battery does not fully charge and now lasts only a few minutes once the charger is unplugged.  The battery is a Lenovo replacement less then a year old.

Hi there! I just recieved my refurb ideapad z500 and not only was the battery not working ,but it has a wierd small white/bright spot on the screen. Will waranty replace it? Also what is it? Thanks!     I picked up my laptop last Friday from UPS. As soon as I got arround to opening it, I noticed that it would no power on without being pluggen in. That is strange because all my previous laptops had at least enough charge to power on, and it said it had 34%(when I powered it on with the power cord). That was the first strange thing. Then, after about a couple hours, I checked to see if it had charged anymore and it still said ?Plugged in, charging 34%?. I left it all night. The next morning, I went to see if it had moved. It hadnt. Then I thought maybe it was just saying that so I unplugged it. It still wouldn?t come on without the power cord. Then on Sunday it finally told me ?Plugged in, Not charging 34%. Somethings wrong with it. Then, I noticed a strange white spot on the right side of the display. It was really annoying me so I called in and added that to the repair list. I just Googled it and it seems like a problem with some lenovo laptops. I also talked to my friend (who knows a lot about computers) and he said it was something behind the display. Will they fix these issues since it was supposedly "inspected" and was as good as new. Thanks!

Dear Lenovo, After perusing the recent 2016/2017 comments by multiple users on similar posts about Ideapad Z510 battery from across locations/countries - it appears that the firmware that you had issued last year - has somehow got overwritten / superceded maybe in either late 2016  or early 2017 by some more recent/latest updates. I am writing from India and facing the same probem that the battery is showing 100% and then going off almost immediately. This probem had fortunately got solved last year when you had issued a firmware update - but now when i am trying to use the same files again - it basically conveys that "no battery available to update" because that particular firmware is already applied on our laptop. Hence, can you please release newer firmware update for this same issue -  using a z510 system having current till-date updates for different OS - win 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 - same way as you have released for thinkpad series of laptops too on the weblink - http://support.lenovo.com/in/en/downloads/ds001322 Come to think of it - that if a fully working battery is being "prompted" as weak and "need to buy" - but actually is a fully functioning hardware - isnt it a bit of a letdown for your users??? - what to say of  some who might have already bought and replaced with newer replacement batteries - which is actually a completely avoidable cost? I am sure you need to resolve this issue soon so as to restore c... Read more

Hi, I was having issues with my USB3.0 ports yesterday so ran the driver update tool, once I chose to reboot my laptop for the SSD upgrade, the laptop no longer boots up and occasionaly tells me there is a 2103 Detection error with the SSD. I believe, the the PC did not properly install the SSD FW update so would like to reflash it with the same firmware, or backwards roll it.  I can boot into windows from a memory stick and run the firmware update tool and although it can see the SSD - it is displaying the current firmware and thus not allowing me to update. Is there a way that I can bypass this check of the firmware to push the update out again? Thanks

Answer:Ideapad Z500 Keyboard back light - stopped working after Windows 10 upgrade

Update: I purchased a genuine second hand keyboard online fo 22.00 and the backlight is working perfectly. A good way to test the functionaility of your keyboard is to see if the light comes on during the boot-up. If it does not then it is either a loose connection or a faulty keyboard. It is worth opening up the keyboarg to see if there is a loose connection...see this video on how to do it, it very simple and will take you less than 5 minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lK4mKT_7gA If the connection are ok and you still do not see the back light working during the boot up, then I am afraid to say that you have a faulty keyboard. Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

As per the datasheet, your laptop comes with 4 Cell 60 WHr. The IdeaPad Y700 (Y700-15ISK) has 5 hours of battery life. This laptop has great battery life by gaming laptop standards. However, do not expect it to last a good portion of the day without having to be plugged in.The laptop is compactible to replace battery if it Lenovo battery from 4 cell to 6 cell.

I just recently got the Ideapad Z500 for my birthday and I loved it but there is one thing that is doing my head in and I wonder if there is a way to stop it or fix it. Basically the "i" key on my keyboard is super sensitive and I don't need to push it down, just slightly touching it types an "i" and means I keep accidentally typing an "i" just because I accidentally touched it. Does anyone have the same problem and do you know if there is a way of fixing it?!

should also mention I don't know if this is a feature of the laptop considering the "i" is a commonly used key??

Answer:ideapad z500

hi Safi2905,

Welcome to the Forums.

You might want to follow this thread and apply this battery firmware update to address the battery concerns. As for the fan kicking in at power up, this is most likely a thermal design to keep the laptop running cool - unless you're hearing rattling / grinding noise that might indicate a faulty fan, otherwise, this is normal.

Hi i have theEdge11 K3252545-A12 modelwith Battery 57wh model no : 42T4897 The Battery Monitor showing only 47.5wh overall capacity. This seems to be the same problem like the edge13 series. For these devices there is a battery firmware update but not for my battery.Again i know that batterys are getting worse after cycles but this seems to be bug because:1) the battery is 2 weeks old2) the battery shows in the energy manager as 47wh battery and not 57 battery. So the battery manager says "good" and no battery wastage.  Does Lenovo provide the upgrade also for my device and battery? see the links: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-75738 http://www.lenovoblogs.com/connections/2010/08/update-bios-and-battery-firmware-to-ensure-full-charg...

Answer:Solved: Edge 11 AMD K325 - Battery Problem need Battery Firmware update?

Hello mate, You don't have a problem with your battery. My T510 indicates the same with a 57wh. Under average usage patterns your ThinkPad battery maintains approximately 70% of its power capacity for the first year of operation. Average usage is defined as the number of recharge cycles. A cycle is defined as each time the battery discharges a total of 85% or more and is recharged it counts as one cycle.

Hey, I own a Thinkpad E220 (5380-CTO) and the "Lenovo Thinkpad Toolbox" gives me daily alerts that I have a "critical battery issue". The link leads me to a page to download and update the battery firmware. Hi, I am in the market for a new laptop and have narrowed my choices to the Sony Vaio S here http://bit.ly/TAPlYC with Windows 8 Pro and 1 year of support as perhaps the only upgrades and the IdeaPad z500s here http://lnv.gy/WtWizp . I am upset that Lenovo does not offer the 7200 rpm option for the hard drive nor a higher screen resoltion. I personally think the 1920 x 1080 on the Viao S is a bit too high, but the 1366x768 of the z500 is way way way too low in my opinion. I want to love lenovo because the community seems great, but the lack of upgrade options is troubling.  Also, a more general question: I am a web developer that does php/html/css editing/developing using a text editor (not heavy ones like Dreamweaver), watches netflix and listens to things like Spotify. Are the HD 4000 Graphics good enough for me? I know RAM is helpful here, but I like to buy my own RAM because it's fun hunting for it (thats why I dont need an 8GB lenovo option to buy) Any thoughts/advice? Thanks, James

Answer:IdeaPad Z500 - low specs?

hi James,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

If you're leaning to the Lenovo Z500, the built-in HD 4000 graphics will be good enough for any php/html programming (especially if you use editors) as this embedded graphics card is on par with the AMD Radeon HD 7520G (based on 3D benchmark).

The screen size though is something that can't be customized but the HDD, you can. If you want fast boot-up,and response time pf your programs you might wanna consider switching to SSD as it's 2-3 times faster than a regular HDD and you can get an enclosure to convert your HDD as an external drive or make your system a hyrid drive (SSD as primary, HDD as secondary, you will need this:

Hi.I bought the Lenovo Ideapad Z500 and I'm trying to boot from a USB drive in order to install Windows on it.When I start the boot menu I only see the hard-drive, the DVD and the network.I tried to set both UEFI mode and Legacy mode in BIOS but the USB stick does not appear in the menu when I boot.I put the image of windows with Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool which formats the stick in NTFS mode.I have the latest BIOS v1.21 and I tried with 2 different USB sticks: one 16GB USB 2.0 Corsair and with a 32GB USB 3.0 ADATA both on USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports on the notebook.I really haven't seen anything like this in my entire career. I even downloaded the file efi\boot\BOOTX64.efi and replaced the one that Windows come with on the specified folder on the USB stick ....Why is so difficult to choose the USB boot drive on the newer notebooks?Does someone have a clue how can I boot from USB?Thanks in advance!  Bupitz

Answer:USB boot for Ideapad Z500

Hi,

I don't think I can be of much help, but a couple of things to try:  if your USB flash drive is formatted NTFS, it will only boot in legacy mode if it is bootable at all.  One thing you might try is to set the partition active if it isn't already.

If you want to boot in UEFI mode, format the flash drive with a single FAT32 partition.  Copy the contents of your install DVD to the flash drive.  If you're using an ISO copy the contents of the iso using a tool like 7zip.  UEFI bootabiliyt doesn't require using a special tool to prep the drive.  Just format it and copy the install medium to it.

Win7 requires CSM support in bios to boot successfully in UEFI mode.  That may always be enabled in UEFI mode or it may be a separate option in BIOS.

Hi,

My one month old z500 fails to boot and gives an error message saying "DEFAULT BOOT DEVICE MISSING OR BOOT FAILED."

This happened after i had to force my pc to shut down by pressing and holding the power button because it hadn't been responding for a while and I was only browsing on the web. When I attempted to restart it I encountered that error message

I suspect it's a hdd related problem because when I enter BIOS it says "not detected" in front of "Hard Disk" caption. That means hard disk is not recognized by BIOS. I tried one key recovery but it's useles cause nothing happens when I press okr button.

What do you think this is caused by and what should be done to recover my pc.

Thanks in advance...  Sorry for bad English.

Hi all, I have an issue with my Lenovo Z500 touch. The USB 3.0 port on the left is not working. When I attach an external HDD, the HDD light is on, so it is powered, it is not seen by my pc.I have looked in the Device Manager and there's an error in the USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller. It says that the device cannot start. Tried to udate the driver, but it says that the driver is up to date. I have Windows 8.1. The other 2 USB 2.0 ports work fine. Any idea? Could be a driver problem? Here is the event in the Device manager: Device PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E31&SUBSYS_397717AA&REV_04\3&11583659&0&A0 had a problem starting.Driver Name: usbxhci.inf Thank you in advance. Michele

Answer:Ideapad z500 USB 3.0 not working

I uninstalled all the USB drivers, then rebooted. The Device Manager says that the USB controller works properly, however, the HDD is still not recognized.

I have an Ideapad Z500 running Windows 8.1 pro but get many problems such as "Reset your Pc not working "Insert Media Some files are missing. Your windows installation or recovery medial will provide these files". This is a frequent occurrence. I have tried reinstalling and repairing but the same problem arises. Microsoft's answer to this is: How to create installation media for a PC refresh or reset http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media but I can't do this as I don't have a PC running Windows 7. There is also the problem of so many unwanted adverts on Windows 8 that I get frustrated at times as othe time consuming problems arise.A computer savvy friend suggests I change the OS to Linux 12.04, so I ask do you have experience of this and is the OS compatible with the Z500. Is it a simple uninstall Windows 8 and install Linux or are there complications?Failing that do I downgrade to Windows 7 (at more cost) or can you recommend some other option. Windows 8 is totally spoiled because of all the intrusive adverts, especially on XBox.

Hello,I am thinking about purchasing an Ideapad Z500 and I would like to ask, if there is an empty slot for a mSATA SSD? I could not find any Z500 model with an SSD. I will appreciate any help on this topic. Thanks

Answer:Ideapad Z500 - mSATA SSD??

I had a look in mine... no msata connector. The empty space and the solder pads are there on the board, but NO connector It looks like that the control chip for the (optional) msata port is missing as well. Now ordered a bay for the optical drive, including converter from msata to 2.5" sata.

Hello!I bought my new Lenovo Ideapad Z500 only two weeks ago and since than it works fine, however yesterday it produced a very strange error. When I turn on my laptop it stops when the Lenovo logo shows up and freezes. The worst problem is that, it doesn't happen every time I turn it on, so when I bruoght it back to the shop, it was working fine again, and after I arrived home, it did the same error. It wasn't only a one time experience, I've tried it at least ten times, and it stopped on the Lenovo logo over and over again. I send it back to the service, however, I am curious whether I'm the only one facing with this weird issue or not. Thank you for your time!Best regards to all!

Answer:Ideapad Z500 won't start

Hi doma,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that the computer is hanging at Lenovo LOGO; this may be the issue with the bad sectors in the HDD, we are getting this issue for the first time. As you have sent it to the service center you need not worry the issue will be resolved.

Do post us back for further queries.

Hi all,

After installing of Battery Firmware Update my brand new battery not recognized by notebook anymore.
It is completely dead.  I am fully upsert.

So, people, do not use this app if everything is fine. Application is not stable.

Facts:
Laptop: ThinkPad E420
BIOS: 8HET44WW(1.26) - Latest
Operating System: Windows 10.
Power Management Driver: 1.67.11.8 -Latest
Battery Firmware Update Utility: 1.15 -Latest
Battery Model: FRU 42T4799  - (9cell, 55++, T410,  E520, E420, T510...) - Original, Fully compatible.

Screen2: http://imageshack.com/a/img923/165/9Rg71E.png

Seems like internal battery memory was corrupted due to flashing interruption.
I assumed the root cause is internal software error.

I've tried the same on Windows 7/8/XP with all LnvBFU revisions (from v1.2 till v1.15) without any success.

But LnvBFU.exe still recognizes the battery, it still able to start flashing.
And I still have hope to install battery software correctly.

Dear Lenovo experts:
1. Please provide steps to correct this error.
2. Please advise how can I get logs of LnvBFU to figure out what's wrong.
3. Please fix this issue in the next LnvBFU revision.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Battery Firmware Update has killed Brand New E420 battery

Hi, I have a comparable problem over here. Got a brand new Lenovo Yoga 260 three weeks ago, worked completely fine until last wednesday. Processed some lenovo updates including Lenovo Solution Centre and Power Management and now my battery is dead. Everytime i turn on my Yoga 260 i get a battery error message after a few minutes that says the battery is not charging and it should be replaced due to a bad condition. When i open up Lenovo Settings and search for energymanagement it displays the same message telling me the battery is defect due to normal wear and it should be replaced. My problem is that the battery worked completely fine until the moment i installed some Lenovo software updates. I hope lenovo support can provide steps to correct this error instead of forcing me to return it and wait 2 -3 weeks. Thanks in advance.

My Partners cat manages to know my Z500 from a table about 10 minutes ago and it has broke the housing for the screen. Atleast one screw has snapped from the metal back plate of the screen that ataches to the 'top'(black bit in image) of the laptop I've attached images to show where the damage is. My question is how can I go about getting a new housing for this laptop? It seems (at this early stage) no other damage has occured.

Hi! I just bought a Lenovo Z500 to start studying 3D animation, so I got a student license to download and install it. Although it seems the laptop has every needed requires to install and use it, it seems to have some sort of error starting up, and sending reports to Autodesk is getting me nowhere. I did my researches, and seem to be a solution, but I couldn't complete it. Autodesk recommends in their forums to disable UAC, but after I did that, same problem occurs. Is there any solution to make Autodesk 3D Studio Max work in my laptop? If there is, can somebody explain me the steps to follow? Thank you.

I have a new z500 that I've downgraded to Windows 7 64bit. For the most part I have everything working. I accidentally hit the brightness + (yes, +) and it instantly dimmed the screen to where it is barely viewable. It seems that hitting that one key decreased the brightness to the minimum amount. I've rebooted, looked for a setting in the BIOS, hit the Brightness +/- and can't increase the brightness. It is interesting because the other hot keys work correctly. I've even upped the brightness in the Control Panel, but nothing seems to work. The screen is extremely dim whenever the machine is powered on (including the BIOS), not just in Windows. I tried a lot of intel chipset drivers, the available Intel HD 4000 drivers in Win8 and win7 too, but nothing working. Can someone please help with how to up the brightness?

Hi all. I bought a Lenovo z500 notebook 3 days ago. Everything is perfect but I have a big problem. As you know, this machine has 2 graphic cards, one of them is Intel and another is NVidia. -  I have downloaded the Intel Graphic drivers from Lenovo's support website and I could install it correctly. However, if I try to install a NVidia driver it says "Graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware"  I tried the newest driver and some old drivers +  the driver from Lenovo Support website but I couldnt install it.-  Also there is nothing about NVidia in the Device Manager. It only shows Intel graphic card.-  Monitoring programs like AIDA64, CPU-Z, GPU-Z  show only Intel, they cannot see NVidia too.-  I updated the bios to the newest version, v18 but nothing changed.-  Graphic setting is "Switchable" in the bios. Now,  how can I fix this problem ? Thanks.

Dear Lenovo community, I would like to change the HDD of my Lenovo z500 with a SSD. Moreover, since I have problem with the OS (win 8.1) I intend to format the PC and reinstall it. My question is: after the substitution of the HDD and the install of the new OS will I still be able to use the hotkeys (pc brightness, volume etc.) of my keyboard or have I to install some additional software or set them in the BIOS? Moreover, have I to install lenovo energy management (to control the battery) and the intel hd graphics drivers? thanks for the attention

Answer:lenovo ideapad z500 hotkey

Hi mardix1982 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you still be able to boot to Windows on the original image ?
You may create a recovery image first that can be useful on the SSD change or even clone it after a factory restore (One Key recovery page 23) using the SSD software or other tools.

Since there be no changes on the BIOS , hotkey features under configuration setting should stay enabled.
All other drivers and power management tool such as Lenovo Energy Manager are available from the support site.

You may also order purchasable Windows installer with drivers by calling technical support .

Answer:Ideapad z500 HDD clicking sounds!

hi Moktik,

Sorry to hear what happened,

The clicking sound you hear is from the actuator,
It tries to re - read or rewrite something on the harddive. while it does that it also shows a sudden drop of read/write speed to "0" shown on your Hd Tune Test.

This is a behavior of a bad disk and it has to be backed up as soon as possible and have the harddrive checked by Lenovo Technical team.

I suggest back up your data first and Call Lenovo Technical Support for assistance.
