p7-1234 with Windows 7 crashes constantly

Question: p7-1234 with Windows 7 crashes constantly

I have a p7-1234 HP desktop with windows 7 and a HPLV2311 monitor. Recently the computer started shutting down on its on for no reason after even short pauses. I have changed the windows settings for power saving etc. to "never shut off" or whatever but the screen will go into a sleep mode at most any time and the computer follow suit repeatedly. The computer will not stay on long enough to run a "deep" virus scan with MSFT security essentials program. I have seen others with this problem. I had my power source checked at a shop about a month ago and it is ok.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My windows explorer crashes and restarts every time I perform some action (e.g., opening a file, moving a file, saving a file). I get the standard "windows explorer encountered a problem and needs to shut down; sorry for the inconvenience" message. In addition, trying to attach a file (mostly word documents) crashes the web browser - IE and firefox simply close, chrome gives an error message "plug-in crash - shockwave flash" and becomes unresponsive.

I very much appreciate your help.

Hello folks:

I hate windows xp. I have a serious problem. I can't backup my files using any media; no floppy, no cdrw. If I try to go into my pictures to save to disk I get an error message and the computer locks up. I have Nero 5.5 which has a problem with the wnaspi332.dll being missing. I've downloaded the missing driver and it still doesn't work. InCd locks up. I've scanned for viruses and have none. I've defragmented, scanned, check disked, memory checked and threatened to blow the thing up. No luck. I can't get into windows explorer as it locks up. Help! Internet explorer is the only thing that works well. No problems there.

Answer:windows crashes constantly

The Advanced SCSI Programming Interface (ASPI) software interface is not included in Windows XP. One workaround is to uninstall and then re-install Nero 5.5 so that you receive a Windows ASPI Manager installer.

If I leave my PC on for 24 hours or so while running Windows 7 64-bit, it is almost guaranteed to shut down unexpectedly. I look in the event logs afterward, and there is no trace of a problem, except on start-up, when Windows reports that "the previous shut down was unexpected". Not very helpful. Anyway, I would suspect some sort of hardware or overheating problem, but I've tried a few system monitors that don't seem to indicate any trouble, at least not when I'm running them.

I have the latest Windows updates installed, although of note is that anytime there's a .NET 4 framework update, I need to run a .net clean-up utility in order to get them installed, otherwise the Windows update just sits and spins without ever finishing.

Are there any utilities that might do a better job of tracking potential Windows problems than Windows does? or maybe does a better job logging?

The three newest crashes were caused by a memory exception with Iexporer running. Though probably not the cause I would do the following

1-ASACPI.SYS a major cause of BSOD's in the earlier revs (yours 2004)

The pre 2009 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.

The 2005 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.
Please visit this link: ASUS teK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P7P55D LE
Scroll down to the Utilities category, then scroll down to the "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Windows 7 32&64-bit" (it's about the 12th item down).
Download and install it. (ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download Tools)
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers to check and make sure that the ASACPI.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (NOT 2005).

2- Run a system file check

Run a system file check to verify and repair your system files.
To do this type cmd in search, then right click to run as administrator, then

Read here for more information SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Let us know the results from the report at the end.
3- Update the drivers

Old Drivers the desperately need updating

I am pretty familiar with Windows XP issues, but I have never experienced this one before. Every ten to fifteen minutes, while using any program, a blue screen will flash for two seconds, and the computer will restart. White text is displayed on the screen, but it is impossible to read it, as it crashes and restarts so fast. Memory is snug as a bug. Does anyone have any thoughts or advice? Thanks in advance.

Hello. I've recently, last week, installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit on my older PC. I'm very pleased and happy with it's performance aside from the fact that my computer crashes and restats on me, usually daily. Sometimes it's even been twice in a day.

It usually happens when I am afk or asleep and when I go to wake up my computer in the morning it says that my computer restated unexpectedly. I have read some of the other threads on the subject but I was wondering if you have any advice for my particular system. I filled out all of my PC details upon registering so I am assuming you can get all of the particulars from there. If not let me know and I am more than willing to put them in this thread.

I took a look at the Event Log and see just what the might be going on. Here are a few of the incidents that I located in the Event Log. There are others but these seemed to be the most important to me and had multiple incidents for all of them.

Answer:Windows 7 crashes constantly - Please help

It appears that a driver caused the issue. It looks as if you are using some very old drivers. Did you upgrade from an older OS, like XP>Vista>7?

Bottom line: Update all your drivers in Device Manager. Also open an elevated command prompt and run sfc /scannow

Widows 8 crashed 14 times and it happened as soon as I started my computer today. I thought it was because I tried to install flash on Firefox. There have been many people that have reported problems with Firefox and Flash crashing Windows 8. I thought I fixed that problem, but my crashes persists. I have searched on Google to try and find solutions. I'm not sure what to do at this point.

Hi! I'm running Windows XP SP3, and I'm losing my mind with the following, fairly common problem.

My Windows Explorer keeps crashing with no apparent pattern when using Windows. Sometimes it will crash during a Search function, sometimes when switching folders or closing them. Closing the Recycle Bin is often a cause for crashes, too. In Safe Mode the computer seems to function normally, I've not experienced any crashes.

Windows Explorer simply crashes with the typical "Windows explorer needs to close, sorry for the inconvenience" message. This usually follows the desktop refreshing, and is followed by the taskbar disappearing for a few seconds, then reappearing. All the applications keep running, it is only Explorer that crashes.

I have read through countless threads on the subject, and in my case I can tell the following have not worked:

Virus/other malware scanning - All tests come away clean, both online and offline ones.

Disabling 3rd party shell extensions using ShellExView.

Checking/unchecking the Launch folder windows in a separate process box.

Adding explorer.exe to DEP.

Disabling media preview dll's.

Disabling thumbnail view and thumbnail caching.

Running sfc /scannow to repair system files.

Any other ideas? Here are the most recent error messages from event viewer:

Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.5512, faulting module explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.5512, fault address 0x000094a6.

I'm running XP Professional 2002 Service Pack 3 and using Firefox 3.6.10
Windows Explorer is constantly telling me it needs to close to protect my computer. Is there anything I can do to stop this? It happens quite frequently and is getting really annoying.

Answer:Windows Explorer Constantly Crashes

Go to Start/Run and type eventvwr.msc and hit enter. In the Event Viewer go to System and Application on the Left and see if there are any Red X's listed. If so, double click them and read on what application or driver is causing the crash and post here.

I hope someone can help me. Several months ago I installed IE8 and experience all sorts of problems such as constantly crashing, crashing of Windows Explorer and disappearing of icons.

I have since uninstalled IE8, however the problem with Windows Explorer continues to exist along the disappearing of the system tray icons, particularly WinPatrol.

Here is a report from the Event Viewer:

All of the instances have to do with ntdl.dll. Sometimes I can restart the compter and Windows Explorer will work for a little time, but then it begins to crash again. I have been asking for assistance with this probblem for the last 2 months and nothing seems to help.

IE7 was also crashing for some time until I disabled all the add-ons and only enabled those which were absolutely necessary. However, I have not received any assistance with Windows Explorer.

Please, any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

For the last couple of months, Windows Explorer (Windows XP Pro SP2) constantly crashes when I open it and it stays open for a couple of minutes, or after copy/pasting something. I get three consequetive error messages, of which I took a print screen and are attached here.

Frequently I have to close the not responding windows explorer in the task manager, but then I still can't do anything (everything's kind of frozen) until I end the process 'DrWatson32.exe'.

I tried defragmenting, running "sfc /scannow" with my Windows XP cd to check if the protected Windows files are still intact, but nothing helped.

I've installed windows vista ultimate x64 in a brand new Gateway GT4220m that originally came with Windos Vista Home Premium.

After the drama to find the required drivers for it, all seemed to work fine. All updates for the system and the drivers where downloaded.

Anyhow, suddenly the system started to show a warning telling that there was a problem with the STacSV.exe

Now it does not appear very often, but the system freezes and it is needed to reinitiate it turning off the machine.

I've noticed that it hapens when I use itunes, WM or play pictures in a presentation mode. If the machine goes to hibernation mode, it won?t wake up, so it is needed to turn it off again.

I am unable to use the windows media center as well.

Would it be OK to reinstall all the drivers? Do I have to run the Windows Vista installation in repair mode or reinstall it clean again ?

Answer:Windows vista x64 constantly crashes

Well you could try to reinstall some of the drivers to see what happens, maybe it's something wrong with the video or sound driver if you say the machine is crashing when you use multimedia applications.

Hi, I have a serious issue. Every time I start my pc, windows explorer crashes after few minutes and i'm not able to do anything. This also occurs when i try to open a program like chrome, it displays the loading cursor and freezes. In normal mode I can't do anything. I'm able to run the pc in safe mode but I can't open the taskmanager (VDMDBG.dll missing) in neither of the modes. I tried to run an anti-malware program (Malwarebytes anti-malware) without success. I noticed in the last few weeks that programs that only need around 40-50% of cpu now reach 100 and above (I noticed this on Ableton live, which became unusable).
Here are my System informations:
Vista home premium, 6.0.6001 service pack 1 build 6001. PC: Samsung R510/P510. Pentium dual-core T4200 @2.00 Ghz. 4GB ram.
I hope you can help me, i'd be very glad if i'd fix this problem.
Thanks in advance, Riprod

I desperatly need all your help as i have ran out of ideas and fully novice in using Windows 7.

I did an upgrade from Windows Vista Home Premium(It came pre-installed with my Sony VAIO machine) to windows 7 32bit Build 6801.It initially ran smoothly for few hours, but then since last 5 hours-It suddely crashes with a black screen and then re-starts automatically.
This happens roughly about 20-30 minutes i use the machine and it crashes.
I did a bit of reasearch trying to check the Event viewer Logs but couldnt get anything noticeably wrong there.

Well, according to SONY website,we are to run certain installter.exe files to install everything. But the main problem that I am facing is,when i am
trying to run a installer.exe file it fails with error "Could not initialize installation. File size expected=203125, size returned=206264".

I again searched on Google and found that its related to "Executing WiseUpdt.exe." which is causing the installation to fail.
So,i followed the steps given here

The WiseUpdt.exe has been re-signed and the merge module containing the WiseUpdt.exe has been re-compiled. Perform the following to obtain the updated files:
Download the Wise Installation Studio 7.0 SP1 - which is attached to this article.

Those corrupted files are false positives due to and update for telemetry( DiagTrack it's group is utcsvc(look under services in task manager)) I believe it was update KB3022345 that is causing this, I can't remember for sure though but it is hamless.

Been searching all over and cannot find any answers. Hopefully you all can help.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 RTM on a Dell Studio XPS 13 with 6GB of RAM, NO paging file.

This was an upgrate from Vista Home Premium 64 (came with the machine), that was freshly installed (complete factory restore).

Did the upgrade and then installed Office 2007 clean. And, yes have Office 2007 SP2 installed.

I have minimal add-ins.

I use Imap access to 3 mailboxes.

One goes to Fastmail and the other 2 to Gmail. Seems that no matter which account I open mail from, the darn app just closes with the standard windows error message, then "looking" for solutions and then restarts.

Most of the time I just cancel it and re-open Outlook manually. Granted, I'm on some really crappy internet connections, but most of the time, I have to run Outlook in safe-mode.

Any ideas?

Answer:Outlook 2007 constantly crashes in Windows 7 RTM

I am using RTM x64 and outlook 2007 but from a clean install with no troubles.
For what it's worth, I have always had trouble when no paging file was used. Some programs look for it and are really unhappy when they don't find it. I always use just a minimal size paging file.

Hi there fatpanda16 and welcome to the forums ^_^,

I have analyzed your DUMP files and all the DUMP files point towards a driver named :- "MRVW24C.sys" which is "Linksys, NetGear, DLink or Marvell Wireless USB Network Adapter." On further analyzing your dump files, the timestamp of the driver is 2007 which is extremely old and is probably causing the BSOD's because it is incompatible with Windows 8.1. The given driver can be updated from the following link :-

Surely, you must be playing Steam games when you were online or in other words using the Internet like watching the Youtube as well. Please update this driver ASAP and let me know in case the issue is still not resolved and I will be glad to help you out. ^_^

Hi all, I'm not sure if someone else has asked about this, but I just installed the final release of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my desktop and Firefox constantly crashes on me. I'm guessing the main reason is because of a script I run through greasemonkey. My question is 2 fold:

1) Do you know how to fix this? I would really prefer to have firefox not crash every day (or multiple times a day)
2) If I can't keep firefox from crashing, do you know if there's a way I can get firefox to automatically restart when it crashes?

I actually just noticed that there's a newer version of firefox. I was using 3.0.14. I allowed me to download 3.5.3. If this works then that's awesome, if not I'd still be interested in a auto restart app or extension.

This is my first Post, so apologies if it is in the wrong Forum ...

I have come here after receiving zero help from Microsoft's own Help channels, for Windows 10!

I completed what appeared to be a relatively trouble-free upgrade from Windows 7 to 10, but have now found that whenever I try to attach or insert anything into an email with WLM 2012, it immediately says 'Not responding' in Task Manager. My only option is to 'End task' in Task Manager, thus losing my partially written email.

I'm sure you will need further info, but as I'm not sure what to include I've kept it short.

Greetings folks,

I'm hoping somebody here can help me. I've just completed a new gaming pc build running Win 7 Professional 64-bit. Clean install. I've downloaded all the "important updates" from Windows Update. The only programs I have installed beyond what came on the CD's with the components are Google Chrome, a trial version of WinRar, and the Steam client.

The problem I am having is that every time I attempt to do *anything* sound related, the Windows Audio Service crashes.

For example: If I go into the "Sound" menu on the control panel, and select *anything*.. all the devices disappear in front of my eyes. Windows Audio crashed.
If I go into the Realtek HD Audio Manager and attempt to do anything at all... all the devices disappear in front of my eyes. Windows Audio crashed.
If I go into the Sound Blaster Cinema program and attempt to do anything at all.. all the devices disappear in front of my eyes. Windows Audio crashed.

Ok.. so restarting the service is trivial.. I pop into services.msc, find it, and select "start". It restarts fine.
Or I can click on the speaker tray icon with the red x that pops up when the crash happens, and the troubleshooter will restart the service.

Even if I'm not tinkering with any sound settings however.. Let's say I go to youtube and pick a random video for a sound check... As soon as it starts playing, Windows Audio crashes.

The only curious thing I've noticed is that if I leave that vi... Read more

Answer:Windows Audio Service crashes constantly on any "sound" action

Ok.. finally got this solved, thanks to a fellow on another forum.

Apparently, the secret to this is "Realtek can't make a driver to save their ass, even for hardware of their own design." I did a clean reinstall of windows, and added only barebones drivers, one at a time, to see what was breaking things... and sure enough, as soon as any form of Realtek driver went live on my machine.. bam.. insta-death for Windows Audio service and the resultant complete unusability of anything audio.

So I uninstalled everything having to do with Realtek, and just used the HD Audio drivers from Windows Update.. and bam, with a couple very minor configuration tweaks, I have proper 5.1 audio coming out where it's supposed to.

Some poor schlep at Realtek customer service is gonna have a real bad day here in a few minutes. >.<

Anyway, problem solved.

i have gone online and gotten instructions on how to remove some of the tracking cookies that panda pointed out... those would be Zedo, Mediaplex, Casalemedia and Fastclick... but i have not done anything to remove them yet, i thought i'd talk to you guys first....

My pc I've had for the past 3 years and overall be good. It was perfectly fine at first but 3 months in, I started experiencing random crashes on a regular basis. The crashes would occur randomly and could happen up to 3-5 times a day if unlucky, but if lucky, it doesnt happen at all. However, each day it would vary.
The way the crash occurs would first be my internet cuts out, but i can still use things offline that are already open, such as word. I can write and save files but i can no longer open new applications. Then after a short while my task bar would crash, here any offline opened word document will still work, but if it's something like a game, my screen would completely be frozen. Then it gets to the stage where the whole screen freezes and there's no response.
On rare occasions, it may recover after 10 mins or so. But a lot of the time, i leave it for 30 mins to an hour and nothing occurs, so these days I automatically reboot the pc via the power button.
I've sort of carried on like this for the past two years or so but the crashes always occur at the most inconvenient times, and I've looked online and I can not find any solutions similar for this issue. If anyone could help, I'd be extremely grateful.

So, I've seen a bunch of posts where the moderator marks something as the "solution" when it doesn't seem to resolve the issue and so I felt the need to post on this subject again. I've had a lot of frustration, and I really want to use IE
11, not to mention it's our corporate standard and if something isn't done before EOL next January, our end user support folks are going to be in a world of hurt.
Here is my situation. I've used IE 11 on several versions of Windows. I've used it on Windows 10 Technical Preview too, but since that's not in production, I'll ignore it for now.
IE11 crashes constantly. It crashes when the only thing open is a blank tab. It crashes on It crashes on and It crashes when I open Office365. It crashes on pretty much every major website and that's when it's not
otherwise misbehaving - like when it won't open links in a new tab (it particularly doesn't like to open TechNet links from
I have used it on at least the following device/OS/application combinations and the truth is, even before I had all the applications installed, it still gave me problems. My point with this is that if it doesn't work on the default
install on a Surface Pro 3 with nothing else installed, and it doesn't work after I reset it twice, I just can't imagine that another reset is going to change anything and I don't see a single application common among the all of machines I've used.

When I restart my computer the first of two things happens, My Sonic Program tries to install an updated from a CD I dont have or have ever had, my dell computer came with this program, and It takes about 50 clicks of several attempts to do this update before it will actually cancel and close, I got the IUM (or whatever) Hotfix but it didnt do anything, Second my DrWatson Postmortem Debugger crashes gives me an error msg saying so and then resets my desktop just like I would have restarted the computer, when in safe mode and this happens the little pop up that asks if I want to stay in Safe mode pops up whenever it crashes, and to make matters worse it will open like 4 Drwatson processes which freeze my computer up whenever I try to open a program or window or even something simple like MyComputer.

I have been cleared from Malware in the HJT thread.

I really need help Im sick of the inability to use my computer.

Answer:DrWatson Constantly crashes

This is quite a common occurence and is only an indication that something else is wrong. You can disable Dr. Watson using this MS guide You can then sort out the problem with your Sonic program without Dr Watson crashing all the time.

any web site that has some scrolling crashs my schockwave is there some reason. I have re installed still problem. any help be appreciated

Answer:shockwave crashes constantly win 10

Excuse me if this has been asked before, please point me to appropriate thread. I recently noticed Internet Explorer 11 and Firefox crashing when attempting to download and install newer Adobe Shockwave player from Adobe - Adobe Shockwave Player I used Shockwave uninstall utility without success. I then tried to use the utility and then browsed to folder "C:\Windows\Syswow64\Adobe\Shockwave 12" and ran the uninstaller found there as well to delete the remaining files and folders. I did manage to install Adobe Shockwave successfully again both in IE and Firefox, but I now have a strange issue. When I go to Adobe Shockwave test site: Adobe - Test Adobe Shockwave Player I see that the installation was successful in Firefox. In IE I see the same and after 1-2 second I get an error that IE stopped working (see screenshot below). A quick Google search suggested to disable hardware acceleration in IE, tried that, didn't work.

Have you seen this issue before? Any help appreciated. Should I use a Registry cleaner (I'm afraid I'll make things worse)?

Thank you in advance, screenshot follows:

I have a problem where when I go to some sites (many) my internet explorer crashes and closes all windows. I believe it's mostly the big sites such as and other file sharing sites.
Is it a buffer overflow or something?

Can anyone please help me solve this? I've been trying to find a solution for quite some time now...

Thanks very much in advance and have a happy new year.

Had my comp for a year with no problem (compaq c700, t5500, 3GB ram) and then one day while running alot of processes (downloading 5-6 videos from a subscription site (so server not p2p), browser page, vlc running, and prob the odd other thing) my comp just hung and hd light wouldn't beep or anything and ctrl alt del led to a black screen w/ the msg failure -security options. Only way to shut down was hard shut down since nothing else was responding. Since that point on, every 20 mins or so after i booted the exact same thing would happen no matter how little i was running. Tried changing alot of things - i uninstalled all spyware programs i had on, reinstalled norton, shut off windows defender, shut off superfetch and the odd other thing from services but nothing has worked. Tried booting it in safemode twice - first time it crashed after 1.5hrs and the second time it crashed almost instantly. Kinda at a loss since it is a pretty cheap computer so im' certainly not going to take it to a tech since i'd rather just buy a new one. But ideally i'd like to fix the issue. THoughts?

Alright, so I'll start my story from the beginning.

I was playing WOW when all of a sudden it crashed to windows and a really weird error message popped up. I don't remember what it was exactly, but anyway my computer restarted but Windows Xp would NOT load up, it would just constantly restart. I ran system restore and instead of loading up, it left me a message saying, "Windows is not properly installed." Frustrated, I gave up.

I decided to try it again a week later and found that Windows finally booted up. About an hour later, my computer restarted and did the same thing over again.

I thought maybe it was overheating, so I removed the side to let it get extra air. My fans seem to working ok, but there is a lot of dust. Do you think this was an overheating issue or is it something else altogether?

Thanks for the help.

I am talking about three to seven times a day. I'm not talking about the screen that says Firefox has crashed sorry about that. This is simply a failure to continue to run.If I do a ctrl-alt-delete it shows that all pages that are open are nor responding. When I stop any one page it clears out the entire program and closes all open pages. It restarts well enough but I should not have to do this all day every day.

Anyone else having this problem?

Any thoughts?

It's possible that your PC is infected with some unwanted software: -

Fault Module Name: bitguard.dll

Have a read here for info on that file: -

If that file is part of some unwanted application, then removing the application has a good chance of fixing your issue.

I'll list everything as it was on the order form when I bought the parts so you guys can see exactly what I have:Processor: Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67Mo. Board: EVGA E758-A1 3-way SLI LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel MotherboardVid Card: XFX GS250XZDFU GeForce GTS 250 1GB 256-bit DDR3 PCIRAM: OCZ Gold 6GB (3x2GB) 240-pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600Operating Sys.: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 BitThe symptoms/problems are that it both locks up and resets at random times. It will do it at the start up, it will do it 45 minutes in. Sometimes it will do it several times before I am able to work. This has been going on for a couple of months, but as this isn't a work computer, but a home PC and I don't regularly use it (1-3 times a week) I never thought too terribly much about it. Recently it has started to do the lockup/reset more often and I figured I better get some answers. What can I do to get more info to you guys to better help myself or can you help diagnose the problem? I am a novice who can follow good directions. Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:Computer constantly!!

get a program like speed fan , to check your cpu temps, and also use the temp gadget for your video card , make sure you are not over heating.memory issues, take out 2 pieces of ram, try running the system with 1 stick and try that stick in all 4 for a while, then try each stick in each slot, this will prove a bad stick or a bad slot. you may require to use 2 or 4 sticks 3 may be causing issues.make sure all your drivers are upto date, and also the chipset/motherboard drivers you can get updated drivers from the mobo manufacturers site.check your cables are properly connected inside the machine.check all fans are working correctly blowing in the right direction.i hate computers!but cant help myself....

I don't really know how to explain this so please bare with me. This has been happening for a while now. Well whenever I start my computer after like 5 minutes if I try doing anything like opening internet explorer or any program it seems as though explorer.exe crashes. I'm not sure if that is the case. The Taskbar freezes so I can't click on anything, as well as the desktop icons (if I can get to the desktop) and I can't even use Control + Alt + Delete to start up Task Manager. Basically the only thing I can do is move my mouse and I have to turn off my computer manually each time. The reason why I think it may not be explorer is because if explorer crashed I would imagine that I wouldn't see any of the UI in which this case I do. It just seems to happen randomly, mostly to when I'm in Internet Explorer, but not limited to that. Well thank you and any help is appreciated

P.S. It never gives me an error message, so I don't know whats going on. Also everything works fine in Safe Mode and the problem started at just when I would download .exe files from the internet, Firefox or I.E. Also recently I was asked to Install Updates with the turn off option so that it would install the updates basically in the proccess of shutting down, and even that "crashed" and did nothing for an hour and then I shut off the computer.

Answer:Explorer.exe, I think, crashes constantly.

Download any updates from microsoft...for a first step

Next if that did not work run some virus/spyware scans....

Then run a sfc /scannow
How to run SFC with the scannow option

Click Start > Run and type sfc /scannow and the click OK.
Note the space between the c and the /
You may need your Windows XP CD so have it ready.
If you have Service Pack 2 (SP2) or SP3 installed, you will need the SP2 or SP3 version of the version of the CD. This can be done with a borrowed CD, if you don't have one.
Allow the scan to run and when completed, reboot the system.

Then let us know!

For the last month, my computer has been constantly crashing (mostly 15-20 minutes into a computer game). If not, it would crash after I play a song through Windows Media player. Does anyone know what the problem is, or have any idea what the possibility might be? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Computer Constantly Crashes

Please post a HijackThis log for someone to look at.
Also make sure you unzip the file into it's own directory (ie. C:\Program Files\Hijackthis, or something similar, not into a temp folder).

I've been dealing with constant crashes for over a month now, at first it was just the browser exiting randomly. Then it started to crash rarely, until it has become very frequent. Sometimes it'll run for a couple hours, but most of the time it'll run for about 10 minutes then I get a BSOD that usually just gives me the tech info.

Stop:0x0000007f (0x0000000D) (0x00000000) (0x00000000) (0x00000000)

I've updated my drivers, and searched around for possible answers, but have not been able to find a clear solution. Sometimes I do get an error message on the BSOD, usually "Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL", "BAD_HEADER_POOL".

Any Help with this would be greatly appreciated, and if any other info is needed please ask I'll be glad to scrounge it up.

Answer:Pc Constantly Crashes , BSOD

Couple things to help us help you:
Have you recently added or removed any hardware?
Have you recently added any software?
Have you checked your Event Viewer for any more descriptive errors? If so what are the errors just before crash time?
Have you checked your temperatures?
Have you ran memtest on your RAM?

Ok it was more than a couple

My internet crashes constantly, usually when I'm running torrents. Sometimes an error will appear in event viewer saying DHCP loss the lease to your Ip address and wasn't able to renew it. Lately though nothing comes up in event viewer and my connection goes down so  I am constantly disabling and enabling my connection to get it going again. Do you guys have any idea why it's doing this? Do I need new network card? Any help would be appreciated? I have hijackthis and have run it but i have no clue if any of the listed is harmful or not?

What isp are you using?  I know there are some out there that frown on torrent downloads and have actually taken steps to screw them up. Does it only happen when you are doing those downloads?  If so, that could be a clue.

Lately, my laptop has a problem in which, after a few hours watching videos, the audio crashes and I have to restart it. I can't find a reasonable fix online. Changing the audio driver from Realtek to Default does not work, antiviruses do not pick up a thing, Command Prompt does not pick up anything, nothing I find seems to work. What should I do?

This is getting extremely frustrating, as the sound keeps crashing no matter what I do.

Answer:Crazy IE7 Crashes constantly

Hi Zeromaster,

It probably is a add-on in IE that is causing it. Disable them one by one and test IE until you find the culprit, then uninstall it.

In IE7:
1. Click Tools.
2. Click Manage Add-ons.
3. Click Enable or Disable Add-ons.

1. Start Autodesk Quantity Takeoff 2011
2. Right click on desktop
3. context menu doesn't show, instead explorer.exe keeps crashing and restarting

But this problem doesn't happen on my work computer with following specs
CPU - E8600
Memory - 4GB RAM
Graphics - 9600GT
OS - windows 7 professional 32bit

I've attached the crashdump files, if anyone can make any sense of it.

Many thanks in advance.

Answer:Explorer.exe crashes constantly

This is usually happening because of 3rd party explorer extensions. Open Reliability Monitor (Start -> Search for Reliability and hit ENTER). There you will see all Explorer.exe errors Double Click on them an post here the details for the last one at least. Also consider using Sysinternals Autoruns or ShellExView. Disable non-Microsoft shell extensions and add-ons, and check the behavior. If it is gone, re-enable the disabled extensions/add-ons, one at a time, and see if you can identify which may be responsible.
You can always try a clean boot, or boot into safe mode to see if the behavior persist.

LE: I don't know what Autodesk Quantity Takeoff 2011 does but usually Autodesk apps require a video card. I also assume you have nVidia Control Panel on your context menu(NVIDIA CPL Context Menu Extension in ShellExView). Try to disable this and check if explorer still crashes.

Recently, it seems, a lot of vista machines are experiencing explorer crashes. Mostly mine are from ntdll.dll but they are all split. It also mostly crashes when I move files, open control panel, or right click, the latter being the most significant. I have disabled every programs' context menu to see if it was that and nothing. It still crashed. ShellExView doesn't seem to do any good either. I've been using autoruns from SysInternals. I'm going to upload all the crash information.

Other than that there isnt much else to explain. Usually I'll be working along then boom, explorer is restarting... It even did it to me just from adding a quick launch icon. I have no idea what the cause is...

Hello everyone.
Since I have gotten a new computer, with Windows 8 64x, when problems come up, I don't know how to fix them.
Being a constant user of Chrome, I had gotten accustomed to using the browser, and for the first two days, it worked fine. After that, the computer randomly reboots, often when I'm on Chrome. Running the Windows Debugger, I decided to have a snoop at the Dump file. Apart from complaining about kernels, and wrong resolution, it had come to the conclusion that the file: mcupdate_AuthenticAMD.dll was the potential culprit. The recommended tool in the stickied post has had complaints from IE, so I'd rather not download it at such a state.

From what I've researched, it is a normal file, probably coming from the online AMD Catalyst drivers, though I don't know if it has come from the CD. I had used it in vain, to try to install initial drivers, and after the motherboard's drivers failing, the AMD ones actually worked, to my surprise.

There is no BSOD when it restarts, just a sudden black screen, no input, then back to boot. I would really appreciate any help.

This is the computer I am using. Apologies for the lack of information on their website, and being unable to check myself, I'm afraid to look inside, for it may void the warranty.

Ok so I'll make this as simply as possible

For way over a year my pc has always frozen/crashed/turned it self off and it's become too frequent and bad, im sick of it

It loads slower than an intel duo core processor with 2 GB ram at my college, like legit it takes 10 minutes just for me to load my desktop

Game performance was quite good but now it won't even let me run the main menues of almost all games

I can't do windows updates because it will just crash mid way and then revert back to the previous version before update. I can't even make this post on the PC itself because it crashed last time I tried (posting from my phone)

I honestly have no idea what to do and would appreciate any help given, thank you.

The specs are as follows:
CPU: AMD FX 8320
GPU: Radeon R9 280 3GB
PSU: 650W Corsair VS
RAM: 8GB Corsair 1600mhz Vengeance
OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)

IE 7 is crashing all the time and if it working, it uses up a lot of Memory. The crash happens (if it happens) always if I try to load a new site or page.

In some cases does it just closes itself without any message, its just gone (no Eventvwr entries at all) and sometimes does it crash and the Visual Studio Debugger is launched.

I had a while ago problems with playing movies online. I had to re-install flash and shockwave. I also have a number of other plugins running, incl. IE Dev Bar, HTTP Watch, StumbleUpon Toolbar, Google Toolbar, Snagit plug-in, Roboform, Google Notebook, Instant Source, Adobe Acrobat, Mr.Wong, Win HTTrack, SWF Catcher, Fiddler and probably 2-3 more.

I don't get any error messages (or at least I can;t find any where I look for them) to find out why the browser crashes. Any ideas where to look? Is there something I can enable that it shows me the stuff in the Eventvwr log?

This is very likely to be the problem. You can't expect that many third party plugins to be compatible with each others.

What happens if you roll back to internet explorer 6.0 (uninstall internet explorer 7.0 from add/remove programs) ?

Uninstall all your plugins, reinstall internet explorer 7.0 if you wish, then reinstall the latest version of the plugins one at a time. Read the release notes each time to check that it's compatible with your version of IE.

If that still doesn't work then give firefox a try There's a search bar directly integrated in the browser so that you don't have to install the dreaded google toolbar and there are plenty of other nifty plugins available.

I read these crashes have been happening for years for others.
this is June 2010, and in the last couple of months I can have several browsers of Firefox
open and they'll all crash. Everytime I open a PDF out of my webmail, Firefox crashed.
Then it tries to open up to the same pages and that really messes things up.

I always get an apology, but it's just too much now.

I have a Dell Vostro 1700 with Windows XP Pro. I use webmail off my domain which I have
done for many years.

I am strongly considering going back to IE, which I gave up years ago.
Are there any suggestions?

I cannot rely on Firefox to stay stable so I can do work.

Thanks for any feedback.

So the tabs not loading part has been going on for some time now, but I've been living with it. When I type in a URL or search for something through address bar there's a 20%-25% chance that it will sit there with the spinning circle, but not do anything. The only way to fix it is to close the tab and open a new on and try again.

Well recently I've been getting the message that the tab had stopped responding so I decided to reinstall Chrome. Now after the new install Chrome will crash every single time it's opened. I've even tried a portable version of Chrome via This can only mean that there's something wrong with the OS right?

Hello everyone,

I have an odd issue here. Google Chrome on my laptop keeps crashing upon launch. The window will open, show up white for 3-5 seconds then just close itself. Weird thing is I dont get any sort of error message or anything. It just simply crashes. Ive done some google searching and I cant seem to find anything that really helps.

Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times. When I do this, it might start and run a few times, then goes back to crashing on launch. Unloading and reloading extensions one by one. Ive even gone as far as to delete my user profile on Windows and create a new one as I know sometimes corrupt and broken profiles can cause some interesting issues. None of this seems to help.

Firefox and Microsoft Edge seem to be uneffected by this. Google Chrome works flawlessly on my desktop with a near identical setup as to my laptop. Both systems are very similar hardware wise.

The only thing I am thinking, the only thing I read on the internet that seems to make any sense is I read a post somewhere (wish I could find it again) that said Chrome may have a hard time on systems with switchable graphics like my laptop has. Just in case it helps, Ill post my laptop specs here. My desktop specs are in my system info link that gets posted with every post.

Answer:Chrome Constantly Crashes On Launch

Hi ArazelEternal

Have you run the Chrome cleanup tool?

Says it will remove software that can cause crashes, not sure how interactive it is. It might be advisable to have backup in case it removes something it shouldn't. (and a restore point)

Chrome Cleanup Tool

On switchable graphics, seems Chrome wants to run on integrated and most articles are related as to how to force it to the addin Video adapter. I searched "Chrome Switchable graphics" and then added your specific nvidia card.

Does Chrome behave the same on a clean boot?

Have you run Scandisk and defragmented your Hard Drive? You can also run System File checker. Check all of your programs for an automatic updating feature being turned on.

I'm currently trying to help my little brother's computer problem that started to occur a few weeks ago.
It randomly freezes during any type of computer use for a minute or more and then resumes back to normal. On occasion, the computer gets a BSOD but I haven't been able to recreate it to get a error code.
I have dumped Error, Critical, and Warning (.EVTX) files that I'm able to provide if required.

Answer:Computer Constantly Hangs or Crashes

Try running this first and post the computer model/brand and OS next time. Post the minidump errors also on your next reply. Download MiniToolBox and select all options.A notepad will open then copy-paste the report on your next reply. Download Speccy and then install the program.  To post and publish a snapshot of your PC.. In the Menu bar, click File -> Publish Snapshot. Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard. On your next reply, right-click on a empty space and click Paste on reply box then click Post.

I received an Inspiron 5755 as a birthday gift in November. Since then, I have been having an issue where it will crash multiple times a week (sometimes multiple times a day). I have run every diagnostic Dell recommends but to no avail. I even followed their instructions TO THE LETTER that resulted in bricking my laptop and having to send it to Dell for repair.
This is extremely frustrating that a practically new laptop has this issue. All of the "solutions" that I have been told to try so far, have not worked at all.
I thought maybe it was the network card causing the crash because it only seemed to crash when I was using WiFi but now it has starting crashing when connected with an Ethernet cable.
Attached is the crash report

Answer:Inspiron 5755 Crashes constantly

Is the dump file really from Feb.?
You don't have a newer one?
If you could put the dump files on OneDrive and give us a link, maybe we could check.

Hello partybot. Is there any reason you think you have a malware problem?

I don't see anything amiss in your logs. Have you tried to do a system restore to a date before the FF problem happened?

My computer crashes constantly, I did a system restore, but that didn't help. The computer just freezes and I have to do a hard reboot. I've already worked w/ one of your antivirus moderators and I'm Malware free. He's suggested it was an software/hardware issue...

A couple of times when I was doing a scan, as per the moderator, the computer crashed and the blue screen came up w/ the following:

A problem has been detected & Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer...

I'm now working in SafeMode.

I've got an HP desktop using Vista.

Answer:Vista Computer crashes constantly

Previous topic with boopme in Am I Infected? forum:'s collect some more information: I'll have a look at it and help you try to resolve the problem. Please follow the instructions: BSOD Posting Instructions: Windows 7 - Vista(Note: When you run BSOD_Windows7_Vista_v2.64_jcgriff2_.exe, it will also run autoruns.exe ... and both need to be in the same location!)... with one exception in the following line:"4. Zip up the entire output folder + PERFMON and attach the zip file to your next post."The BC forums will allow a total attachment size of only 512 kb (and what you need to attach will exceed this limit). Please upload the zip file to a file sharing website of your choice and and post a link to it in this thread so that we can access your uploaded zip file. I will have a look at the contained information and see if I can shed some light on your BSOD issue.See the suggestions in the following links for recommendations on file sharing websites: Please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy, and post a link to it in this thread. It is a convenient and accurate way of providing us with details of your computer specifications.

PC Stats:

OS - Windows XP Pro (Service Pack 3)
CPU - Intel Pentium D 920 (2.8Ghz)
Graphics Card - 256mb nVidia Geforce 7600 GT
Ram - 2gb DDR II
PSU - 500w Arctic Power

Anyway, here's the problem:

This particular problem started around 2 days ago, and up until then the PC has performed perfectly with hardly ANY problems whatsoever, so I was surprised to see this start happening all of a sudden for no particular reason.

Whenever I'm playing any games on the PC (Mainly World of Warcraft, which is hardly a heavily hardware dependent game), I get about 5 mins into the game, and the WHOLE PC just crashes. I can't even CTRL+ALT+DEL etc, or close the game & so I have to manually reset the computer. I thought that the problem was to do with the game, so I uninstalled & reinstalled it, but it carried on happening. I then tried playing a different game which I've been playing for years on this PC with no problems (GTA San Andreas) and the same thing happened. I went to nVidia & updated my graphics drivers to the newest ones, but still the same situation. I took a screenshot of Everest aswell to make sure all the voltages/temps looked OK, and they seem to be fine, but here it is anyway:

Anyway, I could really do with some help regarding this because I'm sure you can appreciate it's pretty annoying, as it's just come out of the blue all of a sudden and I've no idea why.

Answer:When Playing Games My PC Constantly Crashes!

Hi Vanchatron !

Your PSU is failing, the +3.3 and +12V lines are out of specs. Double check the readings in the BIOS : repeatedly press del at startup and locate the hardware monitor screen, everest sometimes gives misreadings. Check that the PSU fan is working properly, blow some compressed air through it when the computer is turned off.

If the voltages stay the same replace the PSU with a good quality 450W+ one with active PFC and 20 amps on the 12V rail. Check the recommended models in this thread :

Hi all, first Post, my name is Doug, I live in Kalamazoo and I am a Real Estate Broker.  I consider myself pretty proficient in computers and I always try to sort things out first before bothering others with my issues But I am at a very frustrating loss here.
Actually this is my second post, my first post didn't publish because my computer hung and then I had to do a hard reset just to get back here.  Pretty ironic.
My computer keeps crashing no matter what I do.  If it is not crashing it slows down.
Here is the report from Speccy:
I also attached the results from MiniToolBox.  I will paste the results as well at the end for those who do not like to open attachments.
OK this is what I have done so far.

Answer:Computer constantly crashes, no matter what I do...

Looking at other posts it was recommended to install Hard Disk Sentinel.
Performance was 100% Excellent
Health 68% Good
Temperature 43 Degrees Celsius
The drive found 2 bad sectors during its self test.
Problems occurred during the spin up of the disk 4 times. This can be caused by the disk itself or huge power load (weak power supply).
There are 2 weak sectors found on the disk surface. They may be remapped any time in the later use of the disk.
8505 errors occured during data transfer. This may indicate problem of the device or with data/power cables. It is recommended to examine and replace the cables if possible.
At this point, warranty replacement of the disk is not yet possible, only if the health drops further.
It is recommended to examine the log of the disk regularly. All new problems found will be logged there.
It is recommended to continuously monitor the hard disk status.

Hi guys, I have a Windows Xp issue that I cant find a resolution to on the net anyway after looking at literally hundreds of posts and starting to get pretty frustrated!

Ok so here goes - My problem is this - Load Windows Xp as normal, login to my standard user profile and everything seems fine. Background loads and just as the desktop starts to load up... crash. Explorer.exe crashes and Im left with a blank desktop except for my background.

Sounds simple enough - just go into task manager and run explorer.exe again and as it starts to load - not even 10 seconds in... crashes again. Lovely.... if you leave it sit for a while, explorer.exe will try and load but as it does.. crashes again.

I can use the desktop as long as I can find what im looking for in less than the time it takes to crash again!!! If I open "My Computer" it wont stay open very long to change anything.

Mind you I can access internet explorer and it will stay open as long as I like (with explorer.exe trying to constantly restart). I can download things but again if I save it to a file, if I cant find it in less than 10 seconds I have to go through the manual process of running explorer.exe and trying to find my file to execute before it shuts down again.

Ok so run some spyware programs, anti virus etc you say?

a) I have run SpyBot SD, Ad Aware, AVG etc (each time they run they find new items - delete - restart pop up again)
b) I have run antivirus (Kasperky, Rising etc) - finds is... Read more

Answer:Explorer.exe Crashes Constantly New Issue.

Try and do this for me. If you can, try to find a way to launch an explorer (NOT IE) window and search for %WINDIR%/system32 and tell me if "shellstyle.dll" is present.

You will want to delete this file. This is most likely the cause of your problems.
I have to ask.. have you downloaded any Active-X Controls lately? This is how I found this problem.. on MYSPACE no less. It shows "Install Active-X Control" and it was falsely 'Microsoft Corporation". The girlfriend will never be forgiven!!!!!!!!

None of the anti-virus', adaware; spybot programs would do anything. These will have to be deleted, as I believe this is a new variant of Vundo, and the programs have not the updates needed to clean a system as of yet. It may also attempt to uninstall Symantec products, as well - this is fake, but it makes you THINK it is.

Before I go further, please try the above and see if that file is present. Most likely, that file will manifest again due to other files being present. But just see if it's there, and post back.

FWIW, if you're wondering why I mention this file - because it is not a standard windows file. Well, it IS, but it's not supposed to be within the \system32 folder. This is the file causing the explorer.exe crash. Whoever came up with this, was smart enough to disguise it as a standard system file for Windows. In my case, I found this file on accident, because VundoFix would halt on that file, as it's locked and cannot be unloaded by Vundo... Read more

I have noticed that the weather app crashes every time that I try it now, and other apps crash sporadically. Just wondering if anybody is witnessing the same troubles.

Answer:Weather crashes constantly, along with other apps

Now 100% of the apps are crashing. Not sure what's happening but I will restart. Obvious bugs in this early build.

Thank you to anyone who can help. Okay so i'll start from the beginning. Today i accidentally clicked a random add and managed to get AV security suite downloaded into my comp, Very annoying program. So it blocked me out of all my settings and did the normal thing rogue spy-wares do. So i restarted and quickly ran msconfig and went into safe mode. I don't really know much about safe mode so i opted to do a system restore. I did it for 5 days ago, the 22nd and when i restarted. I had no audio device recognized and explorer wont stop crashing. As im typing this explorer has perma crashed and im deathly afraid of what i should do. Please help :[ I really depend on this comp for a lot of stuff and would hate to have something so stupid as a spy-ware destroy it.

Answer:Explorer constantly crashes and no sound.
