Touchpad / trackpad drivers for Windows 7 64 Home Premium on...

Question: Touchpad / trackpad drivers for Windows 7 64 Home Premium on...

Following some extremely helpful posts here, I've succeeded in installing Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my HP Pavilion 15-n228us. I can't figure out how to adjust any settings on the touch pad / track pad, however. It's overly sensitive right now and interferes with typing. I assume I'm missing a driver that will enable me to control it?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there, Last night when I was speaking to one of my friends on Skype, my touch pad started going beserk. The pointer jumped about the screen whenever I put my finger on the touchpad to move it, it would only keep jumping everywhere. I then decided to restart my computer to see if the problem would be fixed, which only resulted in the touchpad not working at all. I checked for any drivers that may need to be updated, but the thing is- I can't FIND my touchpad driver anywhere! I usually use a USB mouse (which works fine) when I'm working in my room, but if I'm around the house then I usually disconnect the USB mouse. When I tried to update the drivers, it would only give me an error message to say that the touchpad could not be found. However, the "Synaptics Touchpad Enhancements" icon is in my customized taskbar menu, although it hasn't been active. I also tried deactivating/activating the touchpad with FN + F8, but that hadn't fixed the problem either. I can't find any of the materials that came in the box with the laptop, and I'm wondering if I should take it somewhere to be repaired? I'd also like to add that the "clickable" mouse part of the touchpad isn't working either. I'll be fine with a USB mouse for now, but I'd like to find the answer to this problem. Thanks!

Hello guys, I am in desperate need of help with my drivers on my other computer.
That is a picture of my drivers and there are ! marks next to some of my drivers, idk why but i tried to update my drivers already but it doesn't work and I don't have internet connection on it, it says "No connections are available" Please somebody help me, thanks.
I don't even think the "Other devices" is what is causing me not being able to connect to the internet. I think it might be "Network Adapters" so I included more pictures.

I'm completely lost of what to do, I do have another computer I can use to transfer stuff but I'm not sure how to transfer programs since my other compute isn't connected to the internet to install them. I've tried. PLEASE HELP.

I got it figured out. I had to change my network adapter from regular to a legacy network adapter and Windows 7 found it on boot.

I had a bunch of viruses on my computer and I kept getting more because one of them hijacked mcafee, preventing me from turning it back on. I tried to restore my system to an earlier date but all the restore dates were too recent so I decided to reinstall windows 7. I didnt have the disk any more so I downloaded it to a usb drive. I succesfully installed it, but when I logged in I noticed it looked completely different. The bottom bar was much larger then it was before, The screen looks zoomed in and the shortcuts are all much bigger, and when I go into control panel or computer the windows take up the entire screen and cant be made smaller, only minimized. Could I have downloaded a wrong version of windows 7? I also failed to realize that I would need to install all new drivers and was very confused when I couldn't connect to the internet. I tried to install the drivers by looking them up with the network cards ven id but it says they aren't supported on my device. Any help will be greatly appreciated as I have no clue what I am doing. If it helps I have a dell xps 8300.

I'm having a problem while trying to do a clean install of windows vista home premium. Every time I click install now when it comes up, I can this message "A required cd/ dvd drive device driver is missing, Plug in the cd, dvd... ect with the needed drivers now."

I have a clean never used western Digital Caviar black 1 tb SATA HDD, a gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L Mobo, and a LG multi DVD rewriter, Model GSA H54L.

From my understanding its not the cd/dvd driver it reads the install cd just fine up until then, but the the SATA, Raid drivers or something else that aren't being detected. I've tried messing around with turning the AHCI on and off and switching from legacy to Native Ide ports. But nothing worked. The same thing was happening even when I had the HDD hooked up to a IDE/SATA converter and plugged into an IDE port.

and as far as I know the aren't any SATA Drivers offered for my motherboard at the gigabyte site. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just wanna get this thing working

Answer:missing cd/dvd device drivers while trying to install windows home premium

From this page:

To enable hot plug capability for the SATA connectors controlled by the ICH9 South Bridge, you must install Windows Vista (on ICH9, hot plug is supported in Windows Vista only) and configure the SATA connectors for AHCI mode. (Refer to manual Chapter 2, "BIOS Setup," "Integrated Peripherals," for details on enabling AHCI.)

Yesterday I bought a V570 notebook, with an addition Windows 7 Home Premium 64 BIT OEM, since the operating system on it was Free Dos.  I've installed Windows and started to install the drivers from the disk that came with notebook. After I've installed the Intel VGA driver, on boot I got a bluescreen, then the notebook just started to restart. I couldn't get a restore so I had to reinstall windows again. After that I've tryed to use the drivers from the lenovo page, from windows update, all the same result. So I've downloaded an illegal copy of windows 7 ultimate, just to test it out, and guess what, IT WORKES PERFECTLY FINE! Now I can't and won't use that windows, this is why I paid for an original one, so please someone tell me what can I do to make it work! I was up until 4:15 AM and coulnd't find an answer. There is a national holliday today in Romania, so the guys from the call center are not working today.

Hi, - I used the process outlined in this link:
to make a clean install from Windows XP Home Media Edition to Windows Vista Home Premium. <<ACER 5100 notebook, 1G ram, 1.6Ghz, 110G HDD>> Until I found Paul Thurrott's web site, it looked like I was going to have to actually upgrade and bring along all that mess from 3 years of using XP. But, following the instructions Paul gave, I actually did get a clean install. The software was 10% off too from Circuit City. Too bad about them, huh ?

Well, the clean went well, but afterwards when I repeated the process inputting the product key, right near the end, maybe the 3rd or 4th restart, the ACER froze up. I did it again after first deleting the partition and recreating it (BootIt NG). 2nd time it installed fine. Took about 30 min for the clean install, and 1 hour 5 min for the upgrade. The only thing I did differently the 2nd time was to change the boot sequence back to HDD, CDROM.

Anyway, the PC is fine. Wireless works and I've done some Internet browsing. But, in device manager, I have 3 instances of PCI Flash mem alarm, and 1 instance of a USB2.0 camera alarm. Minor but Vista keeps reminding me to install drivers. I don't have the hardware, so I don't know why this has happened. Anyone know ? What to do at this point ?

Thanks !

Answer:Drivers Missing After Upgrade to Windows Vista Home Premium

Solved by getting two drivers from ACER's web site. It wasn't obvious which ones I needed by the description in Device Manager but after Googling found several folks who had the same thing happen to them and also found which drivers were needed.

Hey guys, my hardrive burnt up so I went to a computer repair shop to see if He could check it out, when we were 100% it was done for he had a blank laptop hard drive he could sell me with a burnt windows 7 disk or charge 75$ extra to install it for me. I of course took the blank HD with the installation disk and went home and started it, but when I started the installation I got to the part where it requires drivers but it didn't find any on the disk.

My question is, since I'm going to have to get drivers, can I use a flashdrive to install the drivers? And if so, do I have to format the flashdrive or anything so it will read the drivers?

I just got an awesome deal on an S205 netbook. Everything is great except that I cannot get the WebCam to work. This is a deal breaker. If I can't figure it out I'll be returning it. So far I have tried various things. When I first started this I couldn't figure things out. There was no camera in the Device Manager and nothing obvious on the system (hardware, software) about a camera, except that I can see it, physically on the netbook and know it came with a WebCam. How to use it? Nada. So I went to the Lenovo site & installed a driver and then Skype. The microphone works in Skype, but no picture. Totally black. However, it automatically brings up Lenovo YouCam when you test the video in Skype. So that helped as this software was not recognizing a camera either, so I knew it wasn't just Skype. Then I figured out that I needed to hit Fn+Esc to enable the webcam. I thought that was the ticket. However, as soon as I did that I got a message that the USB device was not recognized. I uninstalled the driver and went back to reinstall it to see if that might help, however at this time I realized that the driver's on Lenovo's site for the s205 are for XP not Windows 7. Seriously? Turns out there are two different sites. and The later has the Windows 7 version, the first site lists Xp drivers ... Installed the W7 Driver again, but still not working or recognizing the camera ... Windows 7 re-install driver recovery failure
Hello everyone. For one reason or another, i decided to re install windows 7 onto my Samsung 7 Chronos. Since I've had no issues in the past with re installing vista on my other machine, i mistakenly thought this would be a walk in the park. Anyway, now after re installing windows, multiple drivers have gone missing, and i cannot connect to the internet (on that machine) to allow windows to find them for me.Please help!

The devices that are missing drivers are the following
ethernet controller (location PCI bus 3. device 0, function 0 manufacturer unknown)

Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless- N + WiMAX 6150 (location Port_#0003. Hub_#0004

Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller (location PCI bus 4, device 0, function 0)
(All of these devices have the code 28 error)

Also, My Standard VGA Graphics adapter cannot start (code 10)

Answer:Fresh windows home premium 64bit install, important drivers are gone!

I'd go to Samsung support site with your good PC and locate the Ethernet driver for your particular model. Get it on a USB stick and install it to the PC with the driver problems.

I wouldn't be in a panic just because I had some yellow exclamation points in Device Manager. Instead, I'd investigate what expected functionality is missing.

Then possibly go back to Samsung and look for drivers to fix the missing functionality.

As of yesterday, my HP Envy 6z-1000 laptop acquired a hive error. Unable to fix it, I simply installed a clean boot of Windows 7. In doing so, the "Recovery Partition" that comes factory installed on the computer was formatted and I no longer have access to the Recovery options provided by HP. I have contacted HP, but they only encourage me to purchase the 3 part Recovery Disc set.

The laptop boots perfectly into Windows 7 Home Premium. However, a few devices do not have drivers according to the Device Manager, including:

Ethernet Controller
Network Controller
PCI Device
SM Bus Controller
Universal Serial Bus Controller

Since I am unable to connect to the internet, I have been on two other computers downloading the drivers from the HP website for the HP Envy 6z-1000. I figured the most important would be the Network Adapter driver, so I downloaded the driver, copied it to a flash drive, plugged the flash drive into the Envy 6z-1000, moved the driver to the desktop and ran it. After going through the installation, the SWSetup folder was created and inside it was the SP57965 folder (which contains all of the files from the installation). Just as I normally would, I reboot the laptop to reload the drivers hoping that the Network Adapter would be recognized, but the adapter (and its drivers) is still not recognized. According the HP, the OS will constantly reject the installation of the drivers, even though I get no errors, so long as there is no recovery partition c... Read more

I am having a problem with one of my families laptops. It is Gateway MT6729 Laptop with Vista Home Premium. The laptop is only 3 months old. When I boot into OS my "Synaptics Pointing Device" is not behaving properly. My standard L-click acts as a R-click and my R-click does nothing. When I diseable the "Synaptics Pointing Device" the L-click is L-click, buy R-click does nothing. Here what I did allready:
-No virus.
-Vista fully updated.
-Drivers updated.
-Restore point did not work.
-Safe Mode has the same effect.
-External devices work fine.

In any case the R-click does not work. I have kind of pushed the idea away that the Button is malfunctioning, since this is 3 month old laptop, but who knows...

I am dumbfounded?!?

Answer:Problem with Touchpad on Vista Home Premium Laptop

Download the latest drivers, and the previous versions. The Gateway support site works well.
Uninstall the old Synaptics software... even to the point of using something like RegClean to get ALL evidencel out of the registry.
Then shut down. Cold boot, shut down ALL security software, then reinstall in SAFE MODE.
Also, Gateway tech support people are still very good. Talk to them on the phone before you do anything more drastic to protect your warranty.

except when I boot up my disk, I only get to the 2nd step:

2) Progress Bar:
The next screen is a more graphical progress bar indicating Windows 7 is still working in the background.

it wont go past this screen.

The same thing happens when I boot it up normally(without the disk for windows 7 home premium), only with the disk in it has the windows 7 rather than the vista look.

As I wish to use Windows 7 immediately (without bothering with Vista Home Premium) can you please advise, in detail, how I can delete Vista completely and install Windows 7 with minimum fuss.
All help greatly appreciated,

Answer:Replacing Vista Home Premium with Windows 7 Home Premium

When you get the Vista DVD, boot from it and choose Custom "advanced" installation. Then highlight the partition you want to put 7 on (preferably the Vista partition) then click "delete" (be careful which partition you choose) once the old Vista partition is deleted, be sure the new unallocated partition is highlighted and hit next to continue installing 7. Here is a screenshot, your partition structure may be slightly different.

I have a R630-11L. It came with Windows 7 Home Premium. Now, I need to change it to Profession in order to run XP competible softwares. My question is that when I install Win 7 Professional, will it install necessary drivers by itself or shall I need to find and install all device drivers one by one? I have recovery media but I could not locate drivers in it? Any idea?

Answer:Drivers when I change from Win 7 Home Premium to Pro

Recovery image is one big package that includes OS, all necessary drivers, Toshiba tools and utilities and some additional software. It is package and you cannot use some single components like drivers or anything else.

If you install own OS you must install all necessary drivers additionally one by one. Please visit Toshiba download page and check what is available there.

Hey guys,

I want to upgrade my OS from Vista Home Premium to 7 Home Premium and I have the Anytime upgrade DVD (provided at the time when I bought my laptop which came pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Premium). Since this is the first time I will ever try to upgrade my OS and I will be paying for it (lol) I wanted to clear a few doubts before I went about it. My current OS is a Deutsch (German) version. I want my new OS to be in English. So my question is -

Will the upgrade process provide me with the option to choose an installation language?

I researched a bit about language packs and if I'm not very wrong, Multiple language packs work only for Business and Ultimate versions but not for Basic and Home premium. Third party language packs like Vistalizator has been reported to work fine but Microsoft doesn't recommend it and some users have reported to have problems where it pops the message " your windows is not genuine".

So should I do an upgrade or just do a clean install with an original Windows 7 Home Premium DVD?

Answer:Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade

I am not sure about the answer regarding the language pack, but I am sure about the upgrade or the clean install. Do the clean install. A clean install is always preferred over an upgrade. With an upgrade all the old problems that may exist with the OS are just carried to the new installation.
Upgrades often fail, either because of third party software that is not compatible, or malicious software that breaks in the new install.
There are some members that back up their stuff and do a clean install on a regular basis to have the OS run smoothly as the first day. Trust me go with the clean install and enjoy your new OS

I am experiencing an annoying problem - my trackpad stopped working. I have narrowed it down to a driver issue. Because if i uninstall the "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav"-driver the trackpad starts working. As soon I install it again it stops. I have tried rebooting and it's no difference. When the driver is installed I cannot even the "Mouse" dialog in control panel.  I have tried the latest drivers: as well as the previous driver. Same result. I have downloaded the drivers through the website as well as with Lenovo support app.  My model is the new X1 Carbon, model: 20A7005UM5 not even 2 weeks old. It worked until yesterday. The only thing done since is the regular update by Windows 8.1. I even tried a system restore before the updates but now there is no difference.  I want to point out that, when driver is uninstalled, the trackpad works, but without all the functionality. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Regards,Jan

I build a lot of the machines I have for folding ([email protected]_stanford) and my very first baby is breaking my heart. Last Wednesday, Windows Update had a non-critical update for nVidia GTX250. So, i downloaded then installed but noticed some screen flicker in animated sections of web pages. I started to roll the driver back and that's when I noticed the GTX whereas I actually had forgot, that machine has a GTS250. So, Monday night, off to the real nVidia download site and pulled the upgrade for my GTS250. Same screen flicker.

Yesterday morning I grapped that first cup of coffee and headed to the PC in my home office and the screen was black. I did the nasty and held in the power button for 6 seconds and restarted the machine. I did NOT hear Vista boot up, thinking that I would. Also, I run Network Magic on my 2 router 16 machine bridged (wirelessly) network and from another PC I looked at the dead PC and it showed no connectivity to the network. Then I noticed there was no light on the USB port expander dongle that hangs from a front of machine port.

I took the DVI connector up to the onboard DVI port and the only difference was the screen said to check the monitor cable, it also comes up with NO signal, going to sleep when I turn the power on and off on the monitor alone. So, I pulled out a 6 foot VGA cable and tried that from the 21" LCD HP monitor to the onboard VGA. No change. Tried another flat screen monitor, no change.

Hi, I need to reformat my hard drive due to a virus.

I have a 'System Backup CD' (made after purchasing and setting up the Computer). I have backed up my documents and have installation discs for most of the software/hardware, but want to be sure I can back up ALL drivers in case I come across problems reloading. I have searched/Googled, but have not been able to find a definitive answer to:
1 - is there a specific folder that stores ALL device or software drivers (rather than having to go to each device's 'Properties' via 'Device Manager')
2 - if so, do they also contain all previous drivers (ie for rolling back)
3 - I did come across a useful 'How to' link: How to take an Inventory of all the Installed Device Drivers in a Machine?, but despite following the cmd prompt enquiry and getting a full list of drivers installed on my machine, it would not (or more acurately, I could not manage to get the cmd prompt to save a copy to my Excel program....I think there was a step or two missing that enable the list to be saved to Excel). But even if this gave a list of all drivers stored on my PC, it doesn't show where they are not much help either.

Any advice or help will be much appreciated,

Answer:where are device drivers stored in Vista Home Premium

Most drivers are here

C-->Windows-->System 32-->drivers.
No just the drivers that are used are here, Older drivers are not in this folder.

You might want to try Driver Max to back up your drivers

I'm trying to reinstall Windows Vista after a bunch of issues I've had with my PC.
I am reinstalling vista but after booting from DVD Vista does not recognise my hard disk on the "Where do you want to install Windows?" screen.
It gives me the option to load new drivers but I have no idea how to do that.
I live to far out too to get any computer experts to help :/
So I guess what I'm basicly asking for is how to get the drivers on my computer so vista can read them and install... (and also how to install the drivers on my computer)
Please help, I've been getting very frustrated with my computer just trying to get it past the booting screen, and then this problem came up...

Answer:No drivers detected Vista Home Premium Install :l

Is your hard-drive detected in BIOS? Has your computer been freezing/slowing down? Any error messages? What kind of problems?

You shoud not have to load drivers for HDD.. A HDD uses a generic storage/AHCI/SATA Driver.

Just built me a new machine, and just barely installed Micro$oft Windows Vista Home Premium x64 and so far it's been a nightmare.

My main task I'm trying to tackle right now is that I cannont install the Forceware 169.25 for Vista x64 for my new 8800GT EVGA card. I go through the install process, and everything seems to work... until I restart my computer for the changes to take effect. After the restart, thinks load, and it still says I'm using Standard VGA Graphics Adapter.

It's driving me crazy.

After I get this, I can fix the issue with sidebar.exe bringing my computer to a grinding halt every time I turn sidebar.exe eventually dies.

Abit AB9 QuadGT
1000w PSU
2x 500GB SATA (raid 0)
8800 Ultra

We've tried using system restore to go back in time, but it still has the problem. Every time we reboot, it asks to install drivers for his keyboard, mouse, etc, despite the fact that they were installed initially when we installed Vista months ago. Keyboard and Mouse work initially, but if you click "cancel" when it prompts you to install the mouse driver, the mouse stops working. Any ideas other than a reformat?

don't you think that since it affects keyboard and mouse, it would be a good idea to post the keyboard and mouse and how they are connected to the rig? Just thinking out loud....

Hello Folks, Firstly i would like to appologize if i've post in wrong section or there's a similiar problem posted already, i already search for similiar question but didnt found any. I did some google search, also with no luck.

Here's my story.

I've purchased an Acer Laptop last year, it came shipped with Windows 7 Home Premium and i've been using this OS until now.

I really like this OS, this is the best OS i've ever tried but now i feel like upgrading to Windows 7 Professional x64.

So lets say if i have already purchased a copy of genuine Windows 7 Professional x64, how do i install it? Just insert the Installation Disc, and it shall prompt me with upgrade menu? Or Do i need to boot from CD-ROM and run installation from there?

Lets say if i can just run installation by inserting Installation Disc, and click "Upgrade To Windows 7 Professional", will it 'overwrite' my current documents/User Settings/Themes/Gadgets ?? These settings are important for me, i wish to keep them untouched if possible. This is question 1.

Question 2
What will happen to my previous Windows 7 Home Premium x64 licence if i decided to upgrade? When i bought this laptop, they dont give me any installation disc, so i cant re-install this OS.

Question 3
What will happen to my Ms Office 2010 licence ? As far as i know, once we activate the copy and register at Microsoft, which i already did, It cannot be activated twice.

This is really starting to annoy me. My computer has recently been refusing to install device drivers when it says that it found the drivers, but returns the error message "Access denied". I am the administrator on the computer. Surely it should ask for elevated privileges to install device drivers? First, my iPod Nano I had connected to the computer was working fine. Now, whenever I plug it in, it asks me to install device driver software. It already has it!! I click to allow admin priveleges to install the software, but then it returns access denied! Today, I wanted to upload a photo from a Fujifilm Finepix A820 camera. Same thing happened again, even though device drivers where installed. This is driving me crazy, what is going on?

Hi all,
even though my Dell XPS 15z is not officially tested for Windows 10 and probably never will be tested, I upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday.
Everything seems pretty fine, except for the (always horrible) Cypress Touchpad. This is what happened:
1. After the Upgrade process finished, I found that Windows installed Synaptics Touchpad drivers.2. My trackpad worked, except for no multi-touch gestures.3. I uninstalled all drivers, cleaned files + registry via CCleaner and rebooted whenever needed4. I installed the drivers I pulled from this post: I checked if two-finger-scrolling was enabled in the driver configuration utility, checked and unchecked the boxes several times6. I tried all kinds of other bugfixes for the infamous Cypress Trackpad driver under Windows 8 and so on
All in all, nothing helped - apart from the basic functionalities which the generic driver also provides, I have absolutely no gestures support. The driver simply does not seem to work at all, despite running in the background.
There seem to be similar problems with Synaptics drivers, only that there seem to be fixes for it.
I have absolutely no hope that Dell will release a halfway decent driver for this piece of junk they call a trackpad, but maybe other users have an idea on how to fix this issue.

Please advice on the performance comparison between
- Windows 7 Home Basic versus
- Windows 7 Home Premium
assuming if both uses the same 8GB RAM.

Just a hearsay...that Windows 7 Home Basic is lagging behind Windows 7 Home Premium in terms of performance assuming if both uses the same 8GB RAM. Please confirm whether this is true or not.

By the way, how to activate the Windows Aero in Windows 7 Basic???

Answer:Performance comparison btw. Windows 7 Home Basic versus Home Premium

Hello cheesum and welcome to Seven Forums.

Last question first. This tutorial may help enable Aero. Please note that there is no way to enable transparency on Windows Home Basic.

Aero - Enable in Unsupported Editions of Windows 7

As far as performance, I have not been able to find any specific "speed" tests to say one way or the other.

Difference Between Windows 7 Home Basic and Home Premium | Difference Between | Windows 7 Home Basic vs Home Premium

But if Basic and Home Premium are run on two identical machines (not just identical RAM, but also identical hard drive/hard drive speed, identical CPU, identical programs and apps installed, etc) I would give a very slight performance advantage to Basic simply because it doesn't have the same amount of features that Home Premium has. Fewer features to load usually equals faster performance. But I think any performance advantage would be so slight it wouldn't make any appreciable difference.

I did find some comments comparing Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional.

performance difference 7 home premium vs. 7 professional? - Microsoft Community

Of course, others may completely disagree with my thoughts and that's cool. Healthy discussion and debate is welcomed.

Answer:vista home basic to windows home premium upgrade

I would move all my personal stuff into its own partition if not already done, not forgetting any email client folders you may have.
I'd then reformat and install Windows 7 on a nice clean C: partition.
(I haven't got a "manufacturers" PC though, your situation may be different).
You'll find that once the Windows 7 install disk starts up it is a very quick, in comparison to XP or Vista, installation. Make sure your removable media drive is set to boot first in your BIOS. If you've never changed this boot order then it should be set to first anyways.

I have recently purchased a new Acer Aspire 5535 laptop. It has Windows Vista Home Premium (WVHP) installed.

The computer came with a number of programs that I am not interested in having on my system. In addition, I was not provided a restore disc. I do own a copy of Windows Vista Home Basic (WVHB).

I would like to keep WVHP as I appear to be eligible for an upgrade to Windows 7 . . . but I would like to reinstall to get rid of all these worthless programs. Can I use a WVHB disc with my new WVHP product key?

Could I install WVHB with the WVHB product key, then use the WVHP key supplied by Acer to upgrade?

Thanks for your time in answering my question. I hope it isn't unclear.

Hi, I've been having BSOD problems(I don't actually see a BSOD the power just goes off) ever since I upgraded from Vista Home Premium to 7 Home Premium.

It occasionally happens during start-up or randomly(no specific program or website) at other times. It will also occasionally freeze and then I need to reboot.

I'm new at this and not tech savvy so hopefully I've included all relevant information. If not please be kind.

My System:

32 bit
Original O/S: Vista(came pre-installed)
Windows 7: Upgrade Version
System hardware is about 4 to 5 years old
Age Of Windows 7: I upgraded to 7 about 3 months ago

Answer:BSOD after upgrading from Vista Home Premium to 7 Home Premium

No DMP included...

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.
Please attach the DMP files to your next post not to post one.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Well to do this you would need two product keys. Since you can only use one key on one installed system, to dual boot two vista OS you would need a seperate product key for each one, if you have two keys all you need are two seperate partitions to install them on.

You should forward the ports on the router to the IP Addresses of the machines, that you want to connect to. On Symantec PC Anywhere, it is ports 5631 and 32, on Windows remote desktop connection it is port 3389 that needs to be forwarded.

I was wondering --

I bought Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade when it was 1/2 price in July. I can also purchase Windows 7 Professional through the Ultimate Steal here in Canada.

I currently have Windows Vista Home Premium on my computer. I really don't want to do a clean install.

After I do an in-place upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium, can I use the key from Windows 7 Professional to upgrade to that version?

After that, can I then install Windows 7 Home Premium on a friend's computer, using the same key I had originally used on my computer, now that I'm not using Windows 7 Home Premium any more?

Answer:Upgrade Vista Home Premium --> 7 Home Premium --> 7 Pro

It appears the Upgrade keys are much more flexible than in the past, so it is worth a try at install. The worst is that you would have to use the key that came with the version.

No one I've read knows for sure whether an upgrade deactivates the underlying O.S. key, and MS's own Technet MVP's say it doesn't in case of reinstall need. It violates the EULA, of course, which says the upgraded OS replaces it except for reinstall.

Since upgrade keys are working in clean installs, you might want to try this providing your Vista Premium is retail so that you can migrate it to your friend:

1) Make an image of your Vista Premium install so it can be easily restored.

2) Try a clean formatted install booting from desired Win7 Upgrade version, which should take the key, or require the double "upgrade over upgrade" trick so the key is taken.

3) If this works, you can migrate your retail copy of Vista to your friend's computer, if not just use your backup image to restore it for in place Upgrade.

You will need to make a backup image of the finished job to avoid having to reinstall both OS in the future.

I upgraded a friends computer last week and did great. Bought upgrade for mine today and it's a disaster. What gives?

Answer:W7 home premium upgrade Vista Home Premium

Did you go into BIOS and set your DVD drive to first in boot order before installing? Try it if you have not.If an upgrade install does not work and you have backed up your files, do a clean install. Put the install/upgrade DVD in and choose custom, delete the current partition that Vista is on (leave any smaller recovery partitions for now), recreate a new partition with the available space, do a full format, and install fresh. If you did not back up your files (always a good idea) and you cannot access Vista to do so now, use a Live Linux CD/DVD (do not install, run off optical drive and RAM) and save your files to a separate drive,USB flash drive, etc.You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane. If all else fails, read instructions.

Heres my story:

Yesterday I was messing around on my brand-new laptop, and I was stupid enough to try a keygen to get Ultimate (I had HP). Surprising. It worked but the copy wasn't genuine obviously. So then I rebooted, pressed F8 at boot. An ran Toshibas recovery to try to get the computer to its out of box state. I got stuck at initializomg (either that or I was impaptient) so I turned off the laptop. Then when I truer to boot I got bootmgr is missing. I have an old vista Hp disk so I installed that for the time being. So my question is, how do I get it back to the original state? I do t have any important data or anything. Please note the laptop didn't cone with recovery disks.

Answer:Upgrading from Vista Home Premium to 7 home premium?

If you no longer have a working recovery partition and no recovery disks, you may be forced to contact Toshiba and see if they will sell you recovery disks.

You could download an ISO of Windows 7 HP and install from that, but that would just give you a clean install, not return you to "original state".

I have not installed any new software recently. I can only use the pen to access menus.    How can I remove recent KB installations using just the pen? Hope someone can help me soon Update:   I have managed to remove the bad MS update but to improvement.   Next I added a new user (also set as administrator) and the trackpad and touch pad function is now working normally but only with the new user account. Would someone tell me if I can remove my own Administrator Account and what effect this will have,  i.e. what data might I lose?   Can I save data and reinstall it to a new account?

Answer:Trackpad and touchpad not working

Hi Beemer,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I?m sorry to hear that trackpad and touchpad is not working properly in your Lenovo ThinkPad X201.
Since the devices work fine in safe mode, probably a corrupted driver is causing the issue. Go to control panel -> Device manager, uninstall the drivers listed under Mice and other pointing devices. Restart the system and let Windows install the generic drivers for the device. Check if the trackpad and touchpad works fine now. Later, you may download the drivers from Lenovo Support page and install them. If you have any difficulties in finding the driver, please share the MTM number of your device.
Click here to understand how to transfer files and settings from one user account to another with administrator rights.
Hope this helps!
Best regards,

I dunno if it's a touchpad or a trackpad I have but there was a program along with it called like Apoint or something that would run and allowed me to change the settings on the touchpad. I have looked and can find no other way of accessing the touchpad settings. Well the last time I remember it working was before I updated Windows Vista, well now the program no longer runs I had it set to disable the touchpad when an external mouse was detected and it no longer does that. I went into its folder located at C:\Program Files\DellTpad\Apoint.exe and double clicked it and nothing happened. It use to run at startup but no longer does and I checked and it is still set to run at startup but does not, any clues as to what is going on? I believe I am using Windows Vista Home Premium.
I managed to fix it by going to Device Manager in the control panel uninstalling Dell Touchpad and rebooting.

Hi 1) I just bought the Y580 online. The trackpad is terrible. - How do I make the right-side and bottom touch scrolling to work ? just like a normal laptop ?? - I changed the sensitivity settings and inspite of that the motion of the cursor is not uniform. When the right side of my finger is contact with it, the cursor stops moving a little and it is okay with the center of my finger.Do any of you experience this? If not, I need to get this looked into. I don't think the problem is with the software, it's just the material with which the trackpad is made, does not have a right coefficient of friction. - The two finger scrolling does not start. When I do the two finger scroll, the cursor change is seen almost 10 seconds later and even after that, it is almost impossible to scroll through my pages. Is that the case for everyone?  - The left/right click on the trackpad is noisy 2) Made the mistake a buying a lower resolution screen. How do I return this thing? When I talked to sales they are asking for a 15% "restocking" fee. That is terrible as well. I never should have gone with Lenovo.

Answer:Y580 Trackpad (or Touchpad) Help

- Not sure if there is a right side and bottom touch scrolling, will test it tonight- not uniform? Means if you place your finger on the right side of the touchpad then move to the center compared to the center move to the left, the distance is different?- 2 finger scrolling not tested, will check it tonight- I am not sure how to help you with the touchpad being noisy when clicking. Do note that this is a 1 piece touchpad compared to the conventional touchpad with 2 buttons below which is different. Use double tap on touchpad to do a left click but right click is unavoidable. - low res screen... can check with sales if you can top-up for upgrade?hope this helps.

Hello all Since 2 days my touchpad (inclusive the buttons) and my trackpad aren't workinig anymore. They are enabled and in the device manager under "mice and other pointers", there is no touchpad to be found. Do you have any idea what could have caused this problem? Thank you very much!

I have a Lenovo x220tablet, alltough it took some time to adjust. But now i'm happy with it. But there's something wrong with the trackpad. I allready taught myself to use it without the pysical buttons in the bottom, and now make fully use of al that synaptics has to offer. But sometimes I have to use the buttons, because it comes handy when dragging something or whatever. At first, I did not like the buttons, but the where usable, but with time, they got worse. It is very hard to explain this for me in English, but, thats why I made a little movie which is linked below. Anyone suggestions what to do about it?Of course I've used google, and found many many topics about the trackpad, but that were mostly driver problems. The click is so loud, it seems to get stuck somewhere and I have to push very hard. Almost like there's something stuck, like sand between it. But it's perfectly clean.Any advise (besides; do not use it) is welcome. And apologies for my English

Answer:X220t trackpad/touchpad

Hi, timpel_800
From the looks, sounds, and general functionality of the TrackPad, I would guess that there is a hardware issue of sorts. In the video, you say that the click function works, but only if you do it twice, correct? And the noise was far louder than a TrackPad is supposed to be, I think. With all this in mind, I would contact support and see if you can get this repaired. The number for support in the Netherlands is +31 (0)20 513 3939 and is open Monday through Friday 9am-5pm.
Best of luck,

Hello everyone,  I am having to send my Lenovo ThinkPad P50 to the service depot to have the touchpad and perhaps more replaced due to the trackpad not performing properly. The right click works intermittently both on the bottom and top right click button. The scroll feature at times stops working and the left click usually starts performing right click operations randomly. I knew it wasn't the driver after uninstalling and reinstalling it a few times including the keyboard driver. Has anyone here ever had to have their touchpad replaced?

Answer:Replacing Touchpad/Trackpad

Hi RegEdit1 ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
As the touchpad and buttons may have erratic behavior but not when using a USB mouse, then best that you have your warranty coverage work for you as the entire upper case that includes the touchpad mechanism to be checked.
Reviewing the hardware disassembly guide would take several screws needed to be worked at for the repair.
Sending it over could be a good option in terms of hardware issue for full functionality check.

Hi Lenovo & all, I use the trackpoint most of the time, but recently after updating the drivers for a number of times from Lenovo update manager I found out that the touchpad on my T60 is not working right. Symptom is that whenever my T60 is tilted forward or backward (i.e. not sitting horizontally flat), then there will be great difficult trying to control the pointer with the touchpad (not responding, etc). Did somebody encounter similar problem?

Answer:Weird Touchpad / TrackPad problem on T60

I found that the problem can be due to the palm rest region being pressed down my my palm:If I press the palm region up on the edge (as it flex a little bit when I use force), then the touchpad works fine even when the laptop is tilted. However, when I stop pressing up on the edge, especially after I have put my palms onto the palm rest to type again, then the touchpad stop behaving normally again It is a design fault of T60, or is it just my T60? Can I have it fixed?

Guys I see hundreds of posts on this old and aggravating topic with totally guesswork "answers" from Microsoft, help forums, including this one. There has to be an answer, right?

BTW this seems common on all types of laptops irrespective of make. I have tried this with both the vendor [lenovo] driver and with standard MS provided "mouse" driver. No diff in this regard though the packages are very different [lenovo very complex]
Also, this is a new phenomenon on this particular unit. In the past, no issues. Windows power-plan update?

as title says. Use laptop. Leave laptop [plugged in or not does not matter]. Return to use laptop after hours. Laptop awakes by normal means but no touchpad/trackpad etc function. Logoff, logon, still no touchpad cursor movement [frozen in centered position].

There is no Power Plan setting for "mouse" or touchpad or trackpad.
There is no Advanced Tab in Device Manager for same
There is no sleep/power/etc settings anywhere in Device Manager for same
There is no Windows error related to the problem
Full reboot required to gain coherency

Something in Power Mgmt, I guess, is offing the touchpad but the parameter is not obvious.

Someone somewhere knows this answer, right??

Answer:Touchpad Trackpad inoperable after sleep

Other then the button to disable the trackpad being somehow accidentally pushed, A lot of the times this problem is reported, And I keep going through all the options. If you have done all the fixes, the problem is most likely with the touchpad itself on the laptop. It is usually a hardware issue. I would call the laptop company and go through their troubleshooting steps (even though forums usually cover all those angles well). But it is usually hardware if all the fixes that are suggested are applied.

Hi all,  Having puchased a X1 Carbon few days ago, I realised that my trackpad and touchpad are acting erractically when I use the mouse at the same time. I detected these erractic movements due to some accidental touching of the trackpad and touchpad.  For example; my trackpad cursor would display a vertical and horizontal scrolling icons when I move the trackpad and I could not scroll my document using my mouse and touchpad. The scrolling icons would disappear after a short while and I would no longer move the cursor with the trackpad. However, the trackpad and mouse are able to move the cursor. However, scrolling remain unresponsive. I restart the machine and all is fine again till I tried to control the cursor with the trackpad again. I tried to disable the trackpad and touchpad since I have a mouse connected but only the trackpad can be disable.  This is my first Thinkpad and I assume users will disable both the trackpad and touchpad with a connected mouse. I do not know if these problem exist out of the box since I connect the mouse to it on my 3rd day of usage and I found them due to the accidental touching of the trackpad last night. Further trial and error confirmed their erratic movements. I tried to re-install the drivers and navipoint but the issue remained.  Is my trackpad and mousepad having problem for these erratic movements and by default, both the trackpad and touchpad cannot be disabled in Thinkpad?

The Trackpad on this laptop is become really unusable. The cursor is jumping around when you lift your finger from the trackpad. I am finding it very difficult to use Photoshop and cannot do anything precise which is ironic as this is a precision touchpad. There is nothing precision about it.
Please Dell fix this. For me this is the only thing holding back the best Ultrabook ever made.

I just got this laptop today and immediately noticed the same exact thing.  It's driving me nuts and really creating problems navigating.  I am really hoping this can be fixed with a software update and it's not hardware related.  I'm also wondering if this is just a flaw on certain units or all of them act like this.

Hey guys, I'm having problems with the touchpad buttons: the system can't distinguish a left click from a right click. Whenever I click one of the two buttons the system reads it as if I'm clicking on both and keep pressing. I tried also to disable them and use the trackpad but also those buttons are not working well. They just work for a couple of minutes and then they stop. However if I run the Thinkvantage suite they seem to work fine and the system reads the click properly. What do you think is wrong? Thanks

Answer:Touchpad and Trackpad Buttons not Working

Today I noticed both my touchpad and joystick stopped working.  I could move the cursor but the clicks would not register.  I restarted and it worked again.  I recall a couple of days ago I updated the drivers, one of them I think was for the touchpad.

If I press any of the trackpad keys the cursor is unresponsive for ~2 seconds. The problems occurs a while after booting. If I restart the machine it doesn't happen. What should I do?

Answer:Trackpad keys freezing touchpad

I noticed exactly the same behaviour after upgrading the driver to version Also when i use the trackpoint, the touchpad freezes 2 seconds..... Somehow the UltraNav driver always seems to give some kind of problems... :-( With the buttons it only happens with the red lined buttons above the touchpad. Not with the two buttons below it. --jan

Scrolling in chrome is giving me a headache.  And I can't for the life of me find the touchpad settings for my new Yoga 910.  I searched both the control panel and metro settings with no luck.  I even went into the device manager and no touchpad to be found.  Usually there's a tab in the mouse properties but for some odd reason it doesn't exist on this computer.  Any direction would be much appreciated.

Touchpad  replacing  Trackpad  in Laptops

Users of the laptops are feeling difficult to use the touchscreen facility in the recent laptops, because the screen is perpendicular to the hand and fingers. In most of the laptops, the trackpad and the area left and right of it are vacant.  This area can be used as touchpad replacing trackpad,  as shown in the following figures.  This new touchpad is parallel to the hand and so easy to write, scribble, select, swipe and do digital signatures.

The touchpad can be enabled to function as trackpad using special key combination(s).  Many app and program icons can be displayed on this touchpad similar to those in tablets and smartphones.
Additional modifications can be included in this idea to make this feature very useful in laptops, desktops, All in one computers.
The Touch Bar on MacBook Pro.
This Touch Bar on MacBook Pro is very small, difficult to view and difficult to reach by fingers for digital signatures and other actions as mentioned in the following weblink.

While updating HP Active Support Library in windows vista home premium it downloads and checks for space allocation and then gives me Error 1316.A network error while attempting to read from file c:\windows\installer\HP active support library.msi Then after the rolling back action I receive Error-1603-Fatal-error during installation consult windows installer help (msi.chm) or msdn for more information. I have tried to go to the latter but have been unsuccessful in eliminating this problem. Is there anything that can be done short of restoring my laptop back to its original out of the box settings?

Hi, Since i've upgraded my laptop (T440s) to win10 (fromwin8.2) the trackpad and the touchpad have been disabled. I've tried to downgrade my touchpad driver and it works approximately (just the click and the trackpad and i can't access to the configuration panel: ultranav). I've already tried to find the last driver on Lenovo website but it didn?t fix it. Is there a driver that works propely with win10 ?  If not, is there another way to fix touch/trackpad? If not how can I force my computer to stay on the previous driver after reboot (win10 automatically update my drivers at each reboot)? Many thankstd

The trackpad and touchpad of my Yoga stops working: the cursor freezes and after a while disappears from screen. Once the cursor is gone it does not appear again, even after a clean reboot. I have tried to enable it via the Control Panel Mouse settings or Input section of ?Lenovo Settings? application but had no success.
The problem has happened several times so far, always after the laptop sleeps due to inactivity. The only way I have found so far to bring the trackpad and touchpad back is by going to the BIOS settings and restoring the default configurations (I have never changed the BIOS settings on this PC, so I can?t figure out why this solves momentarily the problem).
Any ideas on why this problem is happening, and how to solve it without messing with the BIOS settings?
This is becoming really annoying, it has happened three times since yesterday (10/23/15).
My BIOS version when this first happened was 1.26 (GQET46WW), my current BIOS version is 1.27 (GQET47WW). My laptop runs Windows 10 Pro (automatically updated from the Windows 8.1 version delivered with the laptop).
Mod's Edit: System model added to front of Subject line to improve visibility / clarity.

Hello all, 3 days ago, on June 14, the touchpad on my Twist s230u stopped working. No apparent reason for this (tried to undo windows updates / system restore but did not help). The trackpad is not working also. Another thing - when the computer does a full shutdown and restart from the beginning (i.e. with the possibility of accessing the BIOS with Enter at the first screen), the keyboard is not working. I have to power the computer down once more and restart it. I'm running Windows 8.1, 64 bit. I tried to reinstall the new synaptic drivers but it did not help. Thank you in advance for your ansers. Cy

Whenever I wake my chromebook from sleep the trackpad function is inoperable. There is no cursor displayed and using the trackpad does not appear to have any effect (i.e. no "invisible" cursor either). Upon reboot all trackpad function is restored. This started happening after I had been using my chromebook for a few months, so I'm guessing there was a software update associated with it, but I have no idea which one. Anyone else experienced this? TIA

Received my new X1 Carbon 2014 this week. After only two minutes of use, the trackpad and toucphpad stopped working. I hade to use an external mouse, and even after all driver updates it still didn`t work. If I restart the machine, sometimes the track-touchpad will work, but suddenly it freezes up again (after only minutes of use), and I will have to restart to fix the problem. Have used it for 5 hrs now, and how probably restarted about 30-40 times.  Anyone know what is causing this problem and/or how I can fix it?     //alex

I recently got this new Thinkpad T460p and installed Windows and Ubuntu in dual boot. Even after 3 Days there was no error. But today I noticed a quite annoying behaviour. When I boot into Windows (Start up --> Grub, select Windows Loader --> Windows 10 starts) there appears the loading cycle (those white points) and for a short moment, even before the locked Windows screen appears, I can see the cursor. But immediately after that (when the locked home screen appears) the laptop won't recognize any input via touchpad, buttons or trackpad andthere won't appear a cursor at all. I need to login and wait for about a minute (Whatever I do, the laptop won't recognize anything but the normal keyboard), thats the moment in which my Laptop realizes that there are more possibilities to input data then just the keyboard and recognizes everything (touchpad, buttons and trackpad).I already deinstalled the synaptic driver and reinstalled the latest update and even tried the one before that one just to be sure. Nothing fixed my problem yet.PS.: When I start into Ubuntu there is no Problem at all.PPS.: When I started into Windows a day ago It worked fine as well.

Hello, I posted as a part of another thread before but decided to make my own thread for this. I have lost my lenovo partition and reinstalled windows 10 on a fresh install.  This has resulted in my trackpad being rendered unfunctional. I have tried all sorts of drivers to try and get it working but alas nothing has worked. I contacted the live support and they just told me to install the Lenovo companion and give that a go with the drivers from that, but it did nothing to help and ended up downloading the same drivers I tried before.   I have the same issues in Ubuntu also and there is no activity when it comes to the pad, the buttons dont work nor does the motion.  I have looked around on the internet and found next to no solutions for the problem I have.    On my device manager I have however one single unknown device, which I have tried to install drivers onto and that doesnt work also, so I have no idea what that could be.   I would like any advice at this point becuase its driving me mad and I am unable to return the laptop due to being currently in another country.   Thanks in advance.

HI All I am in need of help please i have a X1 Carbon that was Recently purchased for a user at our office. But as you can tell from the subject of this topic the touchpad and trackpad stops working working after a few minutes of working on the machine.  I used Lenovo System Update to update all the drivers to the latest version and this was not successfull, I then tried a reinstall  of windows and the manually downloaded the driver from lenovo website and installed it but still no luck. I have checked and they are not disabled in the Bios and they are not and the Bios is on the latest version I have also tried to let it run on the windows driver that downloads from windows but also it stops working. from what it looks like the trackpoint and touchpad disable cause when i go into the mouse properties the option to enable them both is greyed out i then log on as the local admin to see if it is a permission thing but it is also greyed out. This happens regardless if the machine is on battery or plugged inThis user travels  alot and needs them both to be working.  I came across the below forum but i dont see much of a response from lenovo.

Unfortunately, the trackpad and touchpad of my T460p stop working intermittently. The problem seems to occur after the laptop is going into hibernation. When it boots up afterwards, neither the trackpad nor the touchpad or the mouse buttons work, and the device manager shows the Synaptics device having a hardware issue. The problem persists when rebooting the system and even when using a different operation system (e.g. Ubuntu via a Live USB). I tried upgrading the Synaptics drivers (v19.0.19.1), which does not solve the problem though. I also tried different driver versions (e.g. the ones offered on the Lenovo site), without success. I encountered this problem both on Windows 10 Home & Windows 10 Enterprise Edition, as well as various Linux flavors (Ubuntu, Fedora). The only workaround that I found is to shut down the laptop, remove the battery and reboot it afterwards, which seems to reset the faulty state the touchpad is in. I strongly suspect that this is a problem with the firmware of either the mainboard or the Synpatics device itself, which puts it into an invalid state when going into hibernation. For now, I disabled hibernation mode, which avoids the problem but is not ideal of course. Did someone else run into this problem? Any ideas how to permanently fix this? I'm very happy with the T460p otherwise but this problem just drives me crazy as it's impossible to use a laptop without touchpad/trackpad when traveling.

Hello. I wonder if there are any solutions for the following problem I am having with my touchpad. The touchpad mouse is extremly glitchy Please help, as this is a really basic requirement for any touchpad. I am currently a little disappointed as this is the most expensive laptop i have ever purchased. The touchpad/ imagepad has many functions, but the simple ability to be unable to point to exactly where you need to 20% of the time, is making this almost unusable. Notebook details: HP Envy 17 - Windows 7 - Model - 17-3270NR I look forward to your help guys!
