Windows 10 can't load after installing critical update

Question: Windows 10 can't load after installing critical update

I bought my HP notebook 15-ba004AX 4 months ago, and installed Windows 10 from my company. After couple of months of using and get Windows 10 update regularly, I noticed that Windows 10 won't start after installing specific update. Unfortunately I can't specifically point what update that made my windows failed to start. I try to recovered my windows using windows 10 repaired tool but it end up failed and I have to reinstall my windows 10 all over again. This problem occurred 3 times now, and it irritates me. And now power button on my notebook act weird, I need to push it twice before it can power up cause push it one only make notebook "on" four a few second. I really need a solution for my notebook. Is it hardware failed? Or Windows 10 update failed?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Not sure what's going on but this is the 3rd time this has happened.
First on my desktop after installing windows update I ended up with something called mosquito updater. When I opened my Crome web browser my default page had changed and I couldn't change it back. Same with Firefox. After hours of using at least 5 different malware program which found nothing I did a system restore which solved the problem. I did have to go into my browser's setting and remove the default search engine setting that the malware created.
Yesterday my laptop did an automatic windows critical update and the same thing happened. I immediately did a system restore went into my browsers settings, removed the new default site and issue was gone.
Today the same thing happened. Computer did an automatic update, adware showed up ran a couple of malware/virus/adware programs and nothing was found. I just did another system restore but this time I still have the malware. my web browsers defult url is now search.fbdownloadee.com/?channel=en_nt

Hello, Windows 7 Forums.

I was actually sitting down to write a scathing email to Microsoft concerning their Updates ruining my computer and putting my university work in severe jeopardy, but then I though "No, scathing emails are unbecoming and unproductive. I'll see if I can get help on these forusm instead."

So, a couple of weekends ago, my computer went bonkers.

I am a 3D graphics students, with a constant workflow, so almost every night I'll have all three of Photoshop, Autodesk Maya and VLC open, no problems, computer chugging along fine. This night, however, was different - even attempting to have all three programs open made the computer slow down to within an inch of its life, all three of them freezing. I am computer savvy, but not to the extent of knowing the deeper recesses of software and hardware workings. I figured, 'the cpu is a little outdated, I've been working it very hard lately, and I just installed a new graphics card - I'll turn off for the night, and see if something went wrong tomorrow.'

The next day, I had the same problem. svchost.exe was chewing up all the CPU in it's path. Ontop of that, opening any one of Photoshop, Maya or VLC used an impossibly massive chunk of CPU that it never normally needed to run. I checked the graphics driver was all fine, it was. I tried to do a System Restore, it was turned off. At this point, I was completely incabable of doing my work. The lag was impossible to work with concerning the pograms I use. E... Read more

Answer:Massive CPU problem upon installing latest Windows Critical Update.

Hello and welcome Aolani!

Yes, it is generally a good idea to keep your windows updated BUT, if you're handling a system that is mission critical (e.g. for sensitive, important workflows etc), it's better to manually update your windows and just apply one update at a time from the Windows Update menu... after backing up your important data and system state..

In general, critical updates from Microsoft should be safe to apply but there have been documented cases of them bricking certain systems/configurations for no apparent reason what so ever.. It can be a crapshoot sometimes, and it often involved hotfixes from MS themselves to fix those issues... (happened to me many moons ago... fortunately reverting using a system restore solved the issue)

It is likely that in the future you might have to update your Windows with a service pack, but when you have to cross that bridge, ensure that you've got a working system backed up BEFORE applying it.. that's like a the 1st rule of Computing...

So to recap; do not apply all updates en masse lest your system gets ruined like you describe.. even more so when you rely on it for very very important tasks....

P.S. That's a rather harrowing tale that you told, but it is the lessons we learn through pain and anguish that we never forget...

Oh boy is this fun. So I've been trying to figure out what the issue has been with my RAID controller driver having a yellow flag on it in device manager. Figured I'd try uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it. Well, lo and behold, after uninstalling it and rebooting, the computer just loop restarts, because it can't find windows. So, I put my xp install cd in and try doing a repair install. Can't find any hard drives because it needs the drivers on a floppy disc and I don't have those (have a floppy drive, but no floppies and my laptop doesn't have a floppy drive). Is it at all possible I can burn the drivers onto CD and load them that way? Why does xp setup need floppies? Nobody uses floppies anymore! The soonest possible this can be solved the better, as I have an essay sitting on that hard drive (among a crap load of other really important things) that's due on friday. Is there any way I can save my stuff? Thanks, guys.

Cheers,
Al

windows updates will not load - when I try to load non-critical updates they seem to be copied to the machine but the update fails when it comes to updating the system.

Answer:Windows non-critical updates fail to load

Did ALL the updates you just tried to install fail to install, or only some of them ?If it was ALL of them, have you run a Repair installation of Windows procedure, and it was only after you did that the updates will not install ?(As in, you booted the computer from the XP CD, chose to run Setup, then chose "Repair your existing Windows installation" or similar, and Setup completed successfully.).......In any case, if it was ALL of the updates that failed to install, then you probably need to repair Registry entries for Windows Update related files....It would be a good idea to print the following text.E.g. Select the following text, RIGHT click on the highlighted area, select Copy, open Notepad, place your blinking cursor on it, RIGHT click , select Paste. In Notepad's top bar - File - Print.Or use Wordpad for a better display of the longer lines - Notepad can mess that up. Click Start, select Run and type the following:cmd (click OK or press Enter) net.exe stop wuauserv (press Enter)(stops the Windows Update service) regsvr32 wuapi.dll (press Enter) regsvr32 wuaueng.dll (press Enter) regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll (press Enter) regsvr32 wucltui.dll (press Enter) regsvr32 wups.dll (press Enter) regsvr32 wups2.dll (press Enter) regsvr32 wuweb.dll (press Enter) regsvr32 MSXML3.dll (press Enter) net.exe start wuauserv (press Enter) (starts the Windows Update service) Close the black Window.Restart the computer.Windows Update should then work fineYou can save yours... Running XP Home Edition on IBM Thinkpad Model T42. MS website tells me I should intall 92 (?) "critical" updates and I have tried so many-- way too many -- times to do so. Usually they download OK but fail to install. The "install history" HELP is no help, it just says "try re-intalling." MS "Help" hasn't helped. Opened a trouble ticket with MS recently which led to a frustrating series of emails with an MS staffer; lots of frustration but no help. Have tried installing with "automatic updates" both enabled and un-enabled.
I am running Panda 2008 antivirus and firewall . . . part of the problem?
Thanks for any help or empathy.

Hi everybody,

This is my first post on this forum. I've recently come across a problem with my computer. I'm running Windows Vista 32 bit. I shut the computer down one day, and the next day turning it on I came across this problem.

File: \Windows\System32\Drivers\nqgbwc.sys

Status: 0xc0000225

Info: Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt.

I have no clue what this means. It said insert windows installation disc and repair computer. I did this, self repair found nothing. I then tried system restore and it could not initialize which is a pain in the ass. My last resort is to reinstall windows vista but I think I'm going to lose everything.

If anyone has any advice or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Kevin

Answer:Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt.

First see if you can boot into Safemode without it giving you that error. If you can, first try searching for that driver to see if its even in your system32 folder.

I recently just checked my computer and it is not in mine by default, which means its a file relating to a third party program/app that has been installed on your machine. If you can figure out what the abbreviation for NQGBWC is from the list of installed applications on your computer, then you can isolate which program on startup is causing the failure on booting windows due to the missing system file.

As you may have already tried, i cannot simply google search nqgbwc.sys as it gives me just THIS post only. If you cannot find the problem, then the only thing possible from there is to reinstall your OS but of course BACK UP EVERYTHING IMPORTANT FIRST.

3. Can you boot from a live CD (such as Puppy Linux)?
4. What were you doing before the problem started?

About 2 weeks ago a couple of new updates came out for .NET Framework ("Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.0 Service Pack 1" and "3"). But whether I install them through the Microsoft page manually or let Automatic Updates do it, there is a problem. They both install just fine and report successful installations. But after I reboot, I am told the same two updates are needed to be installed. The only thing I can figure out is that I must have picked up something bad along the way that won't let me update Windows now.

Thanks for any help.

Answer:Windows XP Critical Update

Virtual Machine is the interface that allows Internet Explorer to run Java applets.

Is the update really necessary? Frankly I don't know how serious it is and experience is teaching that many people will have problems with updates that probably never would have encountered the vulnerability they are designed to address.

My policy now is to wait and see if the exploit being addressed really does become a common threat on the web.

There have been at least 2 updates to virtual machine is the last year or so, if you haven't installed any of them (open a command prompt and enter jview to see your version number) you probably should bring yourself up to date. This update is version 3810.

By the way, in XP you should be able to reverse a bad update by doing a System Restore.

You should immediately test this one after rebooting by testing your Java at a site like this.

Hi to everyone.

I'm having trouble with a critical update, I keep getting BSOD after is completed and then I must restore to a previous point.

I followed the instructions for using the SD Diagnostic Tool, but when I executed the application it said there wasn't any dump file. Please let me know if the information I upload is not enough.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:BSOD after Windows critical update

Welcome aboard.

Follow the tutorial Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD, and upload your crash dumps at the next system crash.

If it an windows update, you may go to Control panel> Programs and features> View Installed updates in the left pane> Search for that particular update in the list> Right click on it and uninstall!

Hi,

I keep getting a BSOD after a Windows Critical update. I didn't get a chance to write down the error number, but I was able to run the SF diagnostic tool and retrieve the latest crash dump (attached). If that doesn't work, please let me know and I'll repost next time it happens.

I keep doing a System Restore to the time before the update, and it'll work perfectly for a few boot-ups. Then, presumably, it will re-download the Critical Update and crash on me all over again, so I keep repeating the process.

Obviously, I'd like to just fix whatever driver is causing it, so I can receive the Critical Updates without having to worry about crashing my OS, so any assistance into what driver is causing the issue would be greatly appreciated.

Again, if you can't tell from the attachment, please let me know and I'll update the thread next time the computer crashes by running the SF diagnostic tool once more.

Thanks in advance for your help!
Dan

Hi, I am new here so please bare with me.

It seems that a few days ago Windows completed a "critical" update and since then when I boot the computer up I get the famous blue screen but when I start the computer in safe mode its fine but I have to restore the computer back to an earlier date. It runs fine after I've done this but when I shut the computer down and turn it back on the blue screen comes up again and I have to go through the same thing and go back to an earlier restore point.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this? Many thanks.

I checked everything & realized it was my laptop since our home PC was able to log on without interruption. Side question: Is there a possibility that the virus could spread to our homes PC?After several restarts & trying to diagnose the problem I had to reload a previous Vista session when everything was working & fully functional. During the last month every time my computer (and my husband's) auto-installs Windows 7 critical update KB915597 our Outlook email and our internet browsers stop working.  We both have had to do system restores each time to correct the errors.
Last night I tried updating all important Windows updates to see if that was the problem.  When I restarted after the updates, KB915597 was also installed again.  My husband's computer automatically installed KP915597 again last night.
This morning both our computers worked fine for a few hours.   An hour ago we both had the same problem at the same time again and we had to do system restores to correct.  Is there a way to stop this critical update from installing?  Or
is there some kind of fix for the problem?  Thanks for your help.

A custom application fails to load after a critical update installed. The program worked yesterday, critical update installed, today it does not work. When clicking on the icon a popup appears that says: Application cannot be started. Contact your application vendor.I looked at the details and it says that there is a group policy blocking the program. After restoring to an earlier restore point prior to critical update, the program works again. It is a clickonce application, running on Windows 7 Enterprise x64. I have disabled updates all together, but am not sure this will stop the critical update from installing again. Has anyone had a problem similar to this? Has anyone found a longterm solution. I know I will need to have the critical updates install on the computer at somepoint.Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Windows 7 critical update application fails

I would first contact the software vendor and let them know what update created the problem. They should be very interested because a specific method or shortcut they may commonly use will no longer be allowed in windows 7 due to security or stability concerns. They may need to create a patch for many of their programs. You could also send a note off to MS and let them know, but their solution may be temporary and they will probably refer you back to the software vendor anyway. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane. This site is about helping people, lets keep it that way.

I run a very tight ship thanks to you folks and I keep a regular check on my services page to make sure nothing is starting that shouldn't. Consequently, although I don't know what half of them do, I am aware of most of the services I have starting automatically and manually. Today, when I checked, I discovered stuff has been starting manually that hadn't been in the recent past; at least I think this is the case. So my question is: has anything happened with this last critical update (13/12/13) that might cause extra services to start manually without my participation.

Answer:latest Windows critical update issue

A lot of things will cause services to start when in 'manual start' mode - and may have nothing whatever to do with updates.
There is a misapprehension that this setting means that the service will only start when the user requests it - this is not true. It simply means that the service doesn't start until something else triggers it.

Please give examples where the behaviour you believe has changed.

When I plug an external hard drive into a usb 3 hub, it spins up and windows makes the new connection sound but explorer can't see the drive.
I tried:
-checking for up to date USB drivers (result: mine already were)
-plugging drive into USB system port (result: drive not recognized)
-plugging the drive into USB 2 Hub (result: Drive made repeated loud abnormal clunk sounds so disconnected before checking so not sure if the drive was recognized)
-plugging ext drive into usb 2.0 system port. (result: dive recognized, dialogue recommending switch to USB 3 Port displayed, with not a little irony)
-uninstalling and reinstalling my usb drivers (result: ext drive still not recognized)
-roll back to before the windows critical update issued Oct 14, 2014 for win 7 Home Pro x64. (result: DRIVE NOW RECOGNIZED AND FUNCTIONS FINE)
-reinstalling Win 7 update (result: drive AGAIN not recognized by explorer in usb 3 port or hub)
-rollback to pre-update restore point. (result: ext drive IS again recognized)
So Microsoft Support, if you're reading this, I can't find any mention of this prob online, anywhere. Your attention to this would be much appreciated!

Just went through the second Tuesday update cycle and when all five computers restarted, sidebar.exe crashed during boot up, and kept crashing on repeated restarts. Dropping back to the restore point just prior to the update cycle restored proper Windows Sidebar operation. As there were over two dozen critical updates between Windows and MS Office, it took some work to isolate which update broke the Windows Sidebar. I've been able to replicate installing KB3097877 crashing sidebar.exe and uninstalling it restores proper sidebar function, on two laptops and two desktops, all with Windows 7 Pro or Windows 7 Ultimate /x64 . . . although I don't believe the Win7 variant makes any difference.

Even if auto updates are turned off, Windows insists on trying to install KB3097877 during Shutdown (i.e. when you turn off the computer). The only way to prevent it from being reinstalled (and breaking the sidebar again) is to select and hide this update in Windows Update.

Hello,

For a month now I have been having issues with the Windows critical update disabling (blocking) my internet connection. The problem occurred after I tried disabling the Tablet input panel keyboard after I bought a drawing tablet, I think I did something with windows features, at least thats the only thing I can think of.

The only way to get around the problem is to do a system restore everytime it installs the critical updates which is strangely enough after every 3 days after the system restore. I have tried uninstalling certain KBxxxx updates with no luck, I tried uninstalling Microsoft security essentials, nothing changed. The windows update is turned off to never update automatically and has always been. I read alot on the internet about people having a simillar problem with these critical updates. I don?t have Mcaffe and never had installed so thats not the issue.

Also there is no updates listed in the view update list when the critical updates are installed, they seem to be invisible or something.

Anyone that could shed some light on this, I would be forever grateful.

Do I really have to reinstall the whole system because of this?

My USB keyboard KU-0841 HP no longer works after a critical update.

The only think on the keyboard that works in the Volume control as it is a multimedia board.

I know this issue has been posted many times, but I have gone through many posts on the net and nothing up to now has worked.

First of all, I have had Windows 10 on this machine for at least 18 months so has gone through updates no problem up to now.

It was a free update originally from 7 then to 8 and then to 10

My mouse still works and other USB plug in stuff.

I can use on screen keyboard.

Keyboard works in Bios and Recovery mode

I only have USB ports no PS2

Things I have tried.

Update keyboard driver though windows.
Tried troubleshooter in devices
Updated all drivers in the end.
Unticked power manager on USB ports
Checked filter keys in setting

Hp driver update

Bought new general keyboard, also does not work,
Tried second identical keyboard

Will not let me do a restore point. (last one is that critical update)

Tried holding shift key and num lock etc.

Hard reset

And several other things I can't remember.
Looking for some solutions I haven't tried

Thanks

I installed service pack 1 and a few other updates last night on my dad's work computer. I think the computer somehow managed to power off last night before completing the update even though it was plugged in.

Now the computer can not boot windows because it get's stuck around update 300 and receives a fatal error.

I am trying to do system restore however I can't access it due to an administrator password on the laptop. I talked to their IT person and I still can't get the password to work.

My dad never made a recovery disk like I asked and doesn't have the Windows 7 Pro 32 bit disk so I can't access it that way. I only have a 7 Pro 64 bit disk and a 7 Home Premium 32/64 disk.

What other ways can I go about fixing the problem? It's critical it is fixed within the next 12-16 hours.

Answer:Critical error after Service Pack 1 Windows update

Try this first.
Boot into Safe Mode before Windows starts loading. F8 on many computers. Try a System Restore before update.

Their may be other options but this may get you working again.
Let us know if this works or if further help is needed.

Take a look here before trying install of SP1 again.

Hi. Because I recently formatted my computer's hard drive, I have had to go online and redownload all of the critical and other windows updates for my Windows XP Pro computer. When I first started to download the updates, I had 19 Critical Updates to download. Now I think I have 10 or something like that. Well, these last 10 or whatever absolutely refuse to install! They are apparently downloaded though because I attempt to redownload them and they "download" at speeds way faster than what dialup is capable of. Well, then it proceeds to install the updates. However, every single update fails. During the attempted installation of these updates by Windows Update, my computer accesses the floppy drive for some unkown reason. It does this only once or twice. I believe that during these downloads I am running programs such as Norton Internet Security 2002 (but I don't know why this would affect it because my other downloads completed fine with this and the rest of the programs mentioned here running). The update brings IE9 to 9.0.5 version. People who have automatic updates on need not to do any thing. If you have disabled automatic updates then you need to turn it on for this update

I'm not a techie or even close.Naturally, just as the other times my PC became useless--tax time, times when online term paper overdue and FINALLY got a day off to study/finsh, like today--and other similarly glorious times, my PC is useless again.I spent all last weekend and the one before fixing SOMEthing and having to reinstall my OS last weekend after a geek wrecked my PC trying to install AV software for me (when I asked to do it myself) by remote! Of course I had to install the software myself after all, after first saving that PC.And now, a "critical update" overnight by windows killed my access to the Net from my laptop, and the error message is  what other sites say is a corrupted driver for my Realtek Network Driver(s). I can't use this PC I'm connected to the Net with for studying, for medical reasons. If I can't get back on with my laptop, I'm in serious trouble.I went to Dell, downloaded all onto a disc for my 1564 Inspiron Windows 7 64 bit EXACTLY as instructed, and it seemed to go okay, but the "Download Manager" that comes with it is all that shows up on the disc. I can't see any others (actual driver) files.I tried doing the zipped and unzipped, and when I put them in my laptop disc drive, it hums and then informs me the install has failed. I saved the message, which is about dll.serve or something not being found.I have had 3 weekends like this and am thus 3-4 weeks behind in school and don't know w... Read more

Answer:Windows Critical Update wrecked my Wired Network Adaptors

by dowloaded all, I mean I used my key to identify the drivers factory-installed and any updates since then for chipsets, and Network adapters, and with the list you select comes a "DellDriverDownload Manager", which is zipped unless you choose for it not to be. Since I tried zipped and nothing happened, I did over using unzipped, since it's not a self-unzipping, I guess, and doesn't get unzipped for you. Which may be why I can't see any dirver files separately, using the laptop or this PC to view what's on the disc. With either of them, nothing happened.Since I got the laptop, it has been telling me I need Microsoft Net Framework Version 2.0, but when I go to the site (several times, to be sure)  and look to manually update, the diagnostics say I'm already updated--since the day I got the effing machine! The Dell Drivers download site does say you need to have a particular add-on for Mozilla to download the drivers, so I added it onto this PC to download them onto the disc....looked very old add-on, but my PC said I did not have that file.Just extra details in the thin hope I can be helped.

Last night my pc work 100%, I Installed telegram for windows and in the midnight the download of the Critical Update was installed in my Desktop, I restart my computer and when turned on after the bios I get a Black Screen, isn't my fist time: see my old post on reddit about the black screen:

Problem with a 'Black Windows' in Windows 10 Pro

I lost again everything that I installed because I recovery the system via a image backup. I'm sick of that black screen and lost every time my installed software's and documents, the problem appear after of install "Telegram" (I don't know) and when Windows download and installed in my system the Critical Update...

Thanks in advance

Answer:Black Screen after Install the 'Critical Update', Windows 10 Pro 10240

Turn off and turn on the computer again. Go to F12 Boot Menu, boot Windows 10 and click "Repair your computer" instead of "Install now". Because you already installed Windows 10 before the screen blacked out, you don't have to do it again. Just click "Continue" and continue with your set up.

This is how I did it...! Hope you find it helpful.

There are several articles on this newly appearing today.  Crosses all versions of Windows still supported, and apparently Outlook 2010 and 2013, though I don't know if others are involved.  The Update in question is 3097877, which you can read about here.  It's supposed to be a 'critical' update correcting some flaw that occurs when HTML language is used in an email, hence the connection to Outlook.

Reddit report is the most detailed and varied, here.  Lots of specific data there, search also on 'touchscreen', as its failure might be linked only to devices with touchscreens.

Notebook Review's report is just a started ticket, here.  The least informative article (but with new comments every few minutes on the Outlook problem), is here.

Most of the reports say that Windows balks or BSoD's, or merely Outlook does that.  So I'm not sure if my posting this is in the right place.  Please move it to the right place, if you prefer.  Thank you for your time!

Microsoft Announces Patch for Critical Windows 10 Anniversary Update Bug

Soon after Microsoft rolled out the Windows 10 Anniversary Update on August 2, the firm started getting reports of a potential bug that might impact partitions on computers that upgrade to the new version.

Specifically, users were complaining that after installing the Anniversary Update, some of their partitions were no longer visible in Windows 10, making it impossible to access data that was stored here.

Without a doubt, many thought their data was gone, but Microsoft rushed to acknowledge the bug shortly after that, explaining that it was working on a fix, and no files were lost despite the fact that partitions were no longer visible.

And recently, Microsoft announced that a patch was ready, and it would release it to users as part of the next Windows update patch, without actually providing specifics on when exactly this is scheduled to take place.

?Thanks for everyone?s input and patience. Microsoft is planning to release a fix to address the majority of the misidentified partitions in an upcoming Windows Update,? a company engineer said.

Possibly releasing to insiders first
Furthermore, this message doesn?t state whether Windows insiders would get it first or not, but the chances are that they will given the fact the original post also highlights the steps necessary to get updates as part of the Windows Insider program.

Until the new update ships, it?s important to keep ... Read more

Today, I received a notice from Microsoft to install "Critical Update for Windows Media Player Script Commands KB-828026". Upon reviewing my update history, I now find that I had received this same notice from Microsoft on June 14, 2005, June 10, 2005 and May 30, 2005. I am embarrassed to write that I failed to check my update history prior to installing and so have apparently "successfully" installed this update three prior times. Did I in fact install the exact same update three times, or is this a modification of KB-828026 and so should once again install as being urged by Microsoft?

Thanks,
Red Boy

When I try to install KB3182373, a "Security Update for Microsoft Silverlight", Windows Update reports failure with the message "Code 643 Windows Update encountered an unknown error".
I ran WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab. It reported that "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem".
What can I do to fix this? I'm running Windows 7 Professional.

Update - 9/8/15

Fixed by reinstalling Windows fresh (Again).

I think the problem was caused by installing Windows linked with my Microsoft account and then switching that to a local user. My Microsoft account was registered for the insider program so perhaps I was receiving the fast updates and switching to a local account put me on slow updates which got Windows Update muddled in the confusion.

Original Post

Windows Update appears to be stuck/broken. It displays this loading animation even when left alone for an entire day (See screenshot). All the other panels such as Windows Defender will display their available options, it is only Windows Update that will not show.

This is a clean install of Windows 10 Home.

I have made some alterations to the service configuration, disabling what I had been advised as unnecessary services. I have reverted as many of those changes as I could remember but it is a possibility that one of those changes caused this.

Background Intelligent Transfer service is "Running" and set to "Automatic (Delayed Start)".
Windows Update service is "Running" and set to "Manual (Trigger Start)".

8 Aug 15 - Edit: I have cross referenced services with another computer with an unaltered fresh install of Windows 10 Home. No difference in service configuration was found.

Internet connectivity is stable. Network profile is "Public". No alterations have been made to the default network configuration.

Answer:Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update - does not load

Hi wadlip,

I have done exactly the same fixes as you - to no avail. Nothing works. I am surprised by a lack of response by Microsoft. In addition to not being able to update, i cannot update the definitions for Windows Defender. This issue has definitely something to do with BITS.
If i stumble over the solution, i'll post here. I have all night to find the fix

Windows updates keeps installing/reinstalling the same update over and over again. I looked in my update history and it shows that they are installed successfully every time. What should I do and is this using space on my laptop by re-installing over and over again?

Answer:Solved: Windows updates keeps installing/re-installing the same update over and over

It is not using any space. Right-click the ones you already have and hide them so they don't come back.

Hey guys,

So i'm using the windows ISO creation download..

I am installing windows 8.1 core on a Lenovo y410p..
hwinfo 64 says this for chipset: Intel HM86 (Lynx Point)

Once I reboot to start the process of Installing windows, around the point of when I format the drive to ready it, there is an option to "load drivers" before the actual install..

Can/Do I use the "load drivers" before I actually install windows? Ive seen that button but never really used it. Is that what that is for, to install chipset drivers I downloaded or something?

Answer:Load Drivers before installing Windows..

I've never had to use that myself, if it asks for drivers that would the time to use it otherwise just do the install and update/install drivers after.

As long as you are connected to the internet windows will find any drivers it needs to complete the install.
