Question: Yoga 500-15IBD fan noise

Hello, i have the problem that the fan is often too loud. No matter how little or how many programs run or whether the CPU is hot or rather cool. Only at the beginning the fan ran quietly or in normal volume. The problem is well known. The Laptop runs on Win8.1. I have installed all possible updates even for BIOS. I cleaned the fan. Not perfectly.I also reinstalled Win8.1 . Nothing helps. I have not yet tried to install Win10. One reads it doesnt help also. Can someone help me?Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I got a problem with my laptop. The fan is making loud noise everytime I open a new window, a new tab, any setting window and so. I believe it is supposed to make this kind of noise when I'm stressing it with more programs running, not by simply open the files explorer... Any idea on what to do? (model is Lenovo Yoga 500-15IBD)ThanksNstant

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 500-15IBD loud fan noise

Hi Nstant,  Most probably a program or App is running at the background cause fast spinning fan to cool down CPU temp.  To figure it out, right click in your taskbar and from the opened menu click on task manager.  -From top menu click on performance tab then click on resource monitor ==> from top menu click on CPU tab and look at to the Average CPU usage and see which App or Program is using a high percentage of your CPU capacity==> right click on it and end the process.  .Regards,  **If the issue has been resolved please, mark me as solution provided to help others find the solution easily and click the Kudos.**

Hello All, I have bought a LENOVO IdeaPad 100-15IBD andd I have updated everything it is windows 10 and the Intel core i5 version. First booting up and shutting down went fine. Now when I try to shut it down now the screen turns black, but the power button keeps burning and every 5 seconds I hear two hard clicking noises and then it shuts down after 20 seconds. Can anybody help me and give me advice on how to stop it from making these noises? I already checked but there is nothing blocking my fan. Thank you in advance! Kind regards, Gary von Havel.

I recently bouht refirbished Yoga 500-15IBD, It has Intel HD 5500 and GeForce 940M. When I bought the laptop online I was under the impresion that the display is FHD. Unfortunatly the maximum resolution that I see in the Windwos 10 display settings is 1366x768. Is this a software issue or the display is not FHD? I am wondering if it is possible that seller changed the original FHD display with HD display. I can't find the full spec of the laptop. Machine Type Model: 80N600FWUK.

I bought the yoga 500-15IBD(w/i5 5200U;GT 940m and 8G of RAM) in summer of 2015. At first the notebook is doing fine. But at mid-late 2016 the notebook start acting strange, the CPU start lock the frequency at 0.44 Ghz while charging. I find out that the BD prochot is the reason and I disable it with throttlestop. Then when I start gaming for few minutes the laptop just shut down, because of overheating. So I try playing game with BD prochot on and with battery. And the gameplay become very laggy. Not like low fps, but just very laggy. I monitored the CPU and the CPU just get throttled massively frequently and the frequency just go up and down. Which never happen before, the laptop used to be at least playable with consistent (low) fps.  What should I do. Is some component damaged? Should I clean the fan (I checked the fan and it seems fine to me)? Should I charge the thermal paste?  ps I try to stress test both CPU and GPU, it's fine when doing test alone. But when testing both CPU and GPU the temp of CPU just go sky high (~100 C) and the GPU seems to be cool in terms of temperature(75 C)and than the laptop shut down. Even when testing GPU only while CPU is idle both temp got ~75 C. When doing only CPU test CPU temp ~88 C max and GPU stay at ~55 C. It seems the GPU is transfering heats to the CPU.

Hi, I've tried looking for tech specs (I know the hardware specs) for the monitor so I can work out what pen/stylus would be best for the touch screen. However, I can not find this particular product (spec specific) on the website.  If anyone could help me out that would be great, Ideally I'd like something with pressure levels as I do digitally draw from time to time, and would be helpful whilst writing. But would settle for something that isn't due to owning a GFX tablet anyway. Also, I'm unsure if this ideapad is referred to as a 15, 500 or 8 due to not know where this terminology is based from (model name, model series ect) seems unclear, perhaps I'm just looking into it too much and it is just a 500. Thanks to anyone that spends time reading, and thanks in advance for advice. ~Kris

Hello, I want buy LENOVO Yoga 500-15IBD (80N60084PB) you maybe know what is a difference about this 80N60084PB and about this Lenovo YOGA 500-15IBD (80N6006FPB)??? According to the specifications of the laptop is the same and the price differs by 400 PLN Best regards

Answer:LENOVO Yoga 500-15IBD

Hi mariuszwol5, Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums. Based on what I've found out, seems like both models has same specs as you have mentioned. If I'm not mistaken, the difference here is that, the 80N60084PB has this FRU : 18201638, whereas, the 80N6006FPB does not. FRU : 18201638Description : LGD LP156WF4-SPL1 FHD AG S LED1 NB LCDCommodity Code :  LCD PANELS Also checking on the price of the part itself, based on ebay, it is around USD $99.00. Which as per google, 400 PLN = 98.21 USD.  Hope this helps!

I bought a new Yoga 500 15IBD 2 Months ago and since a view weeks the Laptop had several power breakdowns while in battery mode. All of a sudden the Laptop turns black, all lights and the hdd turns off and I have to connect the power cord to get it started again - although the Battery certainly isn't empty according to the OS-Battery indicators AND often having the Laptop fully charged less than half an hour ago. (The Yoga runs for at least 3 hours if the bug does not appear). Now this is no driver issue, I have the problem while running Windows 10, Linux Mint and Backbox Linux. I suppose it's either a battery issue or a faulty architectual design. Since  I see a lot of similar power-off related messages accross the spectrum of lenovo devices, could someone finally publically explain the source of the problem so there is a chance to get rid of it ... especially in future products?

I have a web-camera issue with my notebook. It doesn't work. It used to work once or twice. But then suddenly something went wrong. Neither works mic. When I opened my windows 10 "Camera" app it said "Can't find camera". I checked device manager for drivers issues and couldn't find anything about camera. So I added a knew device "Lenovo EasyCamera". My "Camera" app still doesn't work. So I tried to fix in with Lenovo Settings. But there is no any camera folder in it. Reinstalling still didn't fix it. Also I tried installing drivers with official Lenovo website. Still nothing.

Answer:Yoga 500 - 15IBD - Bios update went wrong

What you can see there is a Boot menu. Your laptop can't boot from disk and display boot selection menu. Try to enter BIOS (can't say how to do it, as you didn't told which Yoga model do you have) and try to change boot settings from UEFI -> Legacy (or in other way) and/or disable Secure Boot. Check if after these changes your laptop will be able to boot.

Is this while running idle or under load? What surface is it being used on? (getting at ventilation) Leaning towards heat, but could be power issues or something else. Scape that, just noticed the dropbox links (its been one of those days) if memory serves bad_pool_caller is a processor 'misfire' Check in device manger that the processor is running correctly (ie flags 'device is working properly' this is stated in the devices properties (right click DM entry) ) if need be,uninstall, and have windows install them (this can be done in the right click menu of the device in DM selecting 'update driver software') Normally if this doesn't fix the issue its very often software based, ie something installed is causing the issue, bad drivers probably the top contributors, but not exclusively. Posting the .dmp file (google is your friend) would almost certainly flag the culprit.

The Bluetooth version is combo Wifi Broadcom 4335/ Bluetooth Brcm2045It always show as working device in Device Manager. Can turn on, turn off. Can descover and pair with other out side device such as Smartphone. Browing file on other device is ok. Now let try to transfer files back and fort, very terrible, it only works for small file, let say less than 100kb. For larger file, the transfer always stuck at some point varies. Try to change the Smartphone, change the angle, position of the laptop and the phone, the transfer speed some time change but, extremly slow. This is hardware fault, should I take it to warranty? How to talk to them and how do they would reply.Do they just say it is working? Or do they erase my laptop?

Hi everybody, when I unplug the charger on my yoga 500 the screen starts to flicker like a rave party, I have searched like crazy all over and have found no solution to the problem. Things already tested:-Unplugging and plugging battery cable.-Disabling Windows error reporting service and Problem reports and solutions-Trying to update intel drivers from driver section and intel site.-Trying to update, and disable realtek hd audio driver. Things to take in account:-When connected to a second monitor, the new one won't flicker.-Laptop has warranty voided because of ssd install. (problem still occurs on bios with and withouth an HDD/SSD) so it shouldn't be considered a Windows 10 problem.-After SSD install, windows update doesn't allow me to update anything. I believe it thinks I'm booting from external hard drive. I cloned the original HDD into the SDD so that shouldn't be happening-Flickers increase with mouse, cursor and touch. Anybody has a fix for this? I read that a lot of people have this problem but I rarely see fixes.proof video https://www.dropbox.com/s/gttvhylvggtug7x/2017-05-26%2013.00.00.mov?dl=0

Hi,
I recently upgraded my Lenovo Yoga 15-IBD to an SSD, with a complete reinstall of Windows. Everything was working great; boot times were quicker and the system was far more responsive. However, the computer randomly freezes now, without any warning. I have to do a hard reset. Reliability monitor gives no clues of what the problem might be. The SSD is brand new, and passed a 'long' test this morning.

I have no idea where to go next; I seems that there is one problem after another with this laptop!

Thanks for your help!

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 500-15IBD Freezes Randomly after SSD Upgrade

Hi soopg.

When it freezes is there anything being logged in the event viewer? (System / Application / Other)

Have you looked at your Storage drivers. Before attempting to update please ensure you have an Image you can fall back to if required. While investigating would also be a good idea to have data backed up. You said this was a clean install so you likely have that point covered.

If you don't have a tool you could check out Macrium Reflect. Free, reliable and tutorial with forum.

You may wish to check out the Driver Verify process.

This tutorial will guide you through the verification process, heed the warnings. Assuming it fails follow the posting instruction in the BSOD section of forum.

Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable in Windows 10

The tutorial states make a restore point. Seems to be a lot of people having issues using restore points hence have an Image.

My Yoga 500 ideapad totally loses it when I plug it into power. The CPU slows down imidiately and runs at 100% usage every time I make an action (opens Chrome takes like 30 seconds). In Speccy, I can see, that the CPU runs at a speed of approx. 500 Mhz (Core speed). If I unplug the laptop, the speed goes up to like 1,9 Ghz when I opens chrome (chrome opens instantly) and CPU usage maxes out at 40% or so. I can now close Chrome, plug in the laptop once again, and if I open chrome now,it maxes out at 500 Mhz speed with 100% CPU usage. I have just completely reinstalled windows (10, 64 bit) hoping that this would solve the problem. I have tried every possibly advanced power options, I have even changed the "when plugged in" power options to match the "on battery" ones, but without any change in performance. After "fixing" the fan noise on my Yoga 910 by changing the BIOS settings, I thought it was just a fluke. Then I bought a Yoga 720 yesterday, set it up with the fan sounding like it was going to fly out of the computer and just hoped it would go away...it didn't. Unfourtunately even after a BIOS update, there is no Quiet Mode like in the 910. Please someone tell me there is a way to fix this. Otherwise it's getting returned and my next laptop definitely won't be a Lenovo.

Question: Yoga Fan Noise

I have a new Thinkpad Yoga model 20CD-0038UK Anytime I use any software/app which has sound capability the fan then goes to full blast and is very noisy. for windows 8 apps the only way to stop the fan is to kill the app in task manager. Playing an mp3 file the cpu is at less than 5% and the fan still goes flat out. Stopping "windows audio device graph isolation" audiodg.exe also stops the fan noise (but then no sound from the laptop. I have now tried a factory restore on the device but this has made no difference. I understand this is not normal for the TPY which should manage to play music/video without fan cutting in. Any advice?

Question: Yoga 510 fan noise

Hi, I have a had a problem with fan noise since I bought my Yoga 510 late last year. When the laptop is under even a moderate CPU load the fan starts up with a loud, high-pitched whirring noise which lasts for a couple of seconds and then dies down again. It does this roughly every 30 seconds. Once the fan has started, the fan itself seems to work okay and sound fine (e.g. it makes an unobtrusive ambient sound that sounds like a fan should). Any ideas how to solve this? Is it a fault? Thanks,Simon

I thought a SSD was suppose to be quiet...well my yoga 900 fan seems to be running quite a lot and there is a high pitch squeal to it (quietish high pitch squeal but still annoying).  How do I know if this is a return issue or something typical? Has anyone else had this problem? Returning a computer is a huge pain so I dont' want to do this just in case.  Only want to return it if something is indeed wrong with it.

Answer:Yoga 900 - fan noise

I hear the fan kicking on when I'm playing games or rendering videos, otherwise, its basically silent. Also when charging, I hear it kick on. Check your background processes, might have something running. Also, make sure you're not on high performance mode.

Answer:Yoga 720 13" FAN NOISE - UGH!!!

Is this the 13 inch or 15inch?  I have the the same problem with the 13 inch and there has been no bios update so far.  My my brother has the 15inch and also had the same problem but after he updated his bios, there was an option to switch the CPU from "performance mode" to "balanced mode" in the bios. It was defaulted at performance mode and after switching it to balanced, the fan noise went away without any noticeable slowdown of the computer.  Im hoping the 13inch gets a similar bios update because other than the fan noise, I love this laptop and would hate to have to return it

So I got my Yoga 3 Pro yesterday and noticed fan noise. I thought Broadwell is fanless? This thing has a fan!!!!! The noise is not loud but it's always on and it's annoying. I tried to use SpeedFan, TPFan Control and NBFC, none works. Any suggestions? If I can't get rid of the noise, I'm going to return it. Thanks.

Answer:Yoga 3 Pro Fan Noise

Sadly, reports nothing the Y3P is fanless were wrong. The fan always being on has also been reported. Some people say it's due to the strict thermal regulations that Lenovo has imposed, but so far it's unclear whether this will be fixed. People have also mentioned performance issues. Did you notice any?

Question: Yoga 720 fan noise

I know this has been reviewed previously. However, I am just trying to keep things simple by not installing the third party fan speed program mentioned in previous threads. I am not sure how to set it so I do not like messing around with it. Lenovo replaced a Yoga 720 (i5/256 GB SSD) that had a crapped out motherboard a few weeks ago with a Yoga 720 (i7/512 GB SSD). I was grateful for the upgrade.  That said, I have a whirring fan noise on this unit that I did not experience on the last one.  I put it on quiet mode in the BIOS settings and tuned down the Windows maximum processor state to 90% from 100%. From time to time, when I have a more processes than usual running, I will hear that noise kick in.  Should I be concerned about anything here or just deal with it. I hate to send this one back since they upgraded me. Quiet mode definitely helped. I am not sure about the other tweak.  Are there any drivers I should look at downloading to help this; or like I said, just deal with it? Any advice will be appreciated.  Thanks!

Question: Yoga 13 Fan Noise

Hey everybody, I just got the Yoga 13 and the fan will not stop... ever... and it's loud.  It's not broken.. it works just fine, but the fan is constantly running.  This is incredibly obnoxious in a quiet space.  Is there a fix for this?  Do the later hardware revisions change the fan speed (or preferably turn it off when it's not needed)? This was purchased from Best Buy, and the model number is much lower than the ones for sale on the lenovo website, so I'm guessing it was an earlier manufacturing run. Maybe this noisiness is by design, but I hope they recognise it's a problem and try to improve it. Thanks!

Answer:Yoga 13 Fan Noise

Do you still use the Norton anti-virus? If so you can remove it and replace it with the free MSE.You can also download the freeware HWMonitor to check what the temperature is. If the idle temp is higher than 45 c degrees then it could mean the thermal paste needs to be adjusted (call lenovo for a service).

Just bought the Lenovo Yoga 710-14isk 80ty --- THIS FAN NEVER SHUTS OFF! I saved all this money for a fan that not only doesn't shut off, but I cannot Skype clients or conduct a webinar because the fan noise interferes with the microphone. I've tried EVERYTHING. Scouting these forums ... updated drivers ... nothing. Still the same. I'm ready to send it back. I'd appreciate someone from Lenovo replying to this with a *solution*!!!! Please don't repeat the malware mantra. Everyone knows it is not malware. Lenovo has a horrible design and engineering issue, and it must be resolved. Please reply or I'm about to take this to the executive team with some serious letters, as well as moving to the consumer protection path.

Hi! I purchased Yoga 900 (part number 90UE002VUS) - 16GB Memory with 512 GB SSD. I hear the fan running loud and continuously even after closing all the applications. Is this normal? I thought SSD's are supposed to be ultra quiet, but this unit has an i7 processor, so maybe it's the processor that's forcing the fan to stay on. However the only application that I've set to run in the background is Sophos Anti-Virus. But even with that app turned off, I hear the fan come on very frequently and stay on with a loud noise for extended periods of time.I wonder whether I have a defective unit and need to get it replaced. If others have experienced this problem and found a solution, I'd appreciate your advice. Thanks

I purchased this Lenovo Yoga 710 couple of months ago. The cooling fan is making heavy noise even while running simple applications. Most of the time I use only chrome and skype. I do not have any heavy CPU consuming applications installed on my laptop. Due to this heavy noise from the fan, it makes impossible to have a clear skype conversations. The microphone is placed very close to the fan, the receiving side they hear heavy nice rather than my voice clearly. Any suggestion to improve this would be a great help, Thank you.

Hi montello,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

There are claims of workaround updating the BIOS and likewise installing fan control.
The way how you describe not having the issue with the laptop suspended without the rattling noise would indicate probable loose parts that causes the noise so I would suggest that you call in technical support instead.

I got a Yoga 900 and I notice there is a small whining noise when the laptop is in sleep mode or is shutdown. The whining noise is very faint but I can hear if I am very close to the laptop. The whining noise is there even when the laptop is not connected to the charger. I got a replacement Yoga 900 and I get the same problem. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Answer:Yoga 900 - Whining noise

I think that the whining noise is from the charger, not the computer itself. This usually happens since the charger is transferring electricity to the computer. It's not an issue, and it's perfectly normal. If it is unplugged however, it should be silent.

Hi Everyone, I have just purchased a Yoga 2 13 nonpro and I occasionally get a single beep coming from it. It does this more so on while on battery. I know that the beeps are indicative of hardware issues, but the descriptions of the beep codes are extremely vague. Do any of you have any idea what could be causing this? I work on this computer and the last thing I want to do is send it to be checked out since that will take a few weeks at the least. Any information you can provide will be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Answer:Yoga 2 13 Beeping noise

Don't know if you found it already, there's an option in the bios that turns battery beep on and off. When on it will beep when it will start/stop charging.

Hi, I am having a big issue since I bought X1 Yoga around a month back. The temperature shoots upwards of 80C as soon as I put a little load on my system (including sometimes just Flash based websites). This makes fan run abnormally at a high RPM making too much sound. It is almost unbearable and makes difficult to work silently. It is the i7-6600, 16GB model and given the price, I was expecting a better system response. With this configuration, I am expected to use for heavy wok at times, but this sound deters me. Can Lenovo provide a solution to this problem? Or do I need to get this serviced in just 1 month? Please help and provide solution. Thanks

I have two users with the Thinkpad S1 Yoga, both complaining of it being very noisy.I have observed for myself that the fan will spin up shortly after fully booting (Windows 8.1 Pro), and will never spin down.I found that some of the "Yoga Series" ultrabooks have had patches for the thermal tables and the like released, but nothing of the sort seems to apply to the Thinkpad S1 Yoga. Can anyone point me in the right direction for this one?

Answer:Thinkpad S1 Yoga fan noise

That isn't my experience at all.  I have the i7-4600U processsor and my fan rarely turns on.  Those instances are usually processor intensive like Miracast (projecting to a HDTV) or hardware scans.  Can you hit the CTRL-ALT-DEL to open task manager and find what application is using resources (e.g. memory and processor) to require the fan?  Usually, that will help guide you down the right path to getting a solution.

I bought my Thinkpad Yoga 15 two weeks ago. The cooling fan is going non-stop and has an irritating whining sound.Even if i'm not using the computer, and there are no programs running, you still hear the fan. Anyone who has the same problem? What can I do?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 15 fan noise

1) The problem may be arising from your Power plan. Assuming you're using W10, right-click on the battery icon, click Power options > Change plan settings (of the power plan that is currently active) > Change Advanced Power Settings > Proccesor Power Management > System Cooling Policy (image attached) and set it both to Passive (I know, mine is on Active).

Then go to Minimum Processor State (just above the System Cooling Policy thing) and set your value as low as possible, 0% being ideal.
Let me know if it worked, if not, well... I don't have any suggestions as of yet.
2) There may be the chance that it is a lemon component or maybe a faulty driver. I don't know what the fan (component name) is called and where you can find it but just try looking around in Device Manager or investigate on the internet.

Hi, I've had a lenovo yoga 900, i7 for about 7 weeks now, and just today the laptop which has always been silent stated making an unsual noise which sounded like scratching on the inside and random high pitched bouts of noise. This has now transformed into a constant high pitched sound, kind of similar to white noise, which does not stop until the computer is turned off. As soon as it turns on again it resumes. I have turned off/shut down all the programs on the computer and it does not stop the noise. The sound appears to be coming from the base corner of the computer on the left hand side near the headphone socket. It is also heating up.  It is incredibly annoying and disappointing since this is the second time I have had trouble with a lenovo yoga product and it's performance in the last year. I would appreciate it if someone could help stop the noise emanating from the device.  Thanks

Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13Model NAme: 2191 So I noticed theres a whine, like a fan whine but it comes from the motherboard area. I unplugged the battery from the board and this problem goes away. I'm not sure if it would be a battery fault or not, but they cost an obusrd amount of money. Laptop operates fine, the whine just seems out of place and probably shouldn't be happening. It almost sounds like a HDD scratching noise despite there being no HDD in this device. I even unplugged the fans to be sure. So it's definitely not the cause. Also unplugged speakers and that doesn't seem to be it. I uploaded a picture on the areas I hear this whine, and it seems to stop doing it when I press the touchscreen. It comes back if I just simply hold my finger still, but when I hold it on the screen and move my finger it goes away. Top right where the orange circle is seems most conentrated. But not by much. I'm assuming it's the touchscreen, but is it natural?  Using Linux also. I'll put Windows on and see if that makes any difference, though I suspect not. Thanks.

I've been using my X1 Yoga 2017 for a few weeks now and I've noticed that when I'm doing simple things like checking email, browsing the web etc. the fan kicks in sporadically. The is most noticeable when I first power on the computer, or wake it up from sleep The problem is that the fan is pretty loud, for example, if I'm sitting in a meeting and the fan kicks in then its pretty audible to most people in the (small) room Is there a way to control the fan RPM or at least reduce the fan noise in some way so that its not so noticeable? I would prefer not to have to open up the computer to do any work (e.g. reapplying TIM) Currently my CPU temp is 48C, but it goes up to 84C usually straight after windows starts and thats when the fan really kicks into high gear

I'm contemplating purchasing this laptop. I see complaints about the excessive fan noise on costumer reviews on the web. I also see Lenovo personnel commenting in these reviews suggesting a BIOS change to quiet mode. My question is does Lenovo now make quiet mode a BIOS default on new shipments and if not, why? Is there a trade-off in lack of cooling when this BIOS quiet mode change is made? Is there danger of over heating in quiet mode? Must one live with this loud fan noise? Thank you.

Last week I received a brand new Lenovo Yoga 710. The internal fan produces a constant noise i.e. it is constantly running. Of course the fan/noise increases with CPU load but it never stops when the CPU idles (e.g. regular Office work). I checked with Windows Task Manager, that there is no background load that could produce CPU, Memory or Disk activity. Ambient temperatures are normal (22 degrees C), machine is on the desk and cool. Is there a BIOS upgrade or setting available that fixes this? Fred. P.S. Hi, When I plug my Lenova Yoga 13 into the mains to power, there is very audible buzzing noise coming from the heaphone output. This happens both with unpowered headphones as well as externally powered speakers that are plugged in on the same strip. The headphone issue is the one that is a particular concern as I can't understand why there might be grounding issues? I'm a UK user. Is this an uncommon issue?

Answer:Yoga 13 Headphone Hum / Ground Noise

Do you have anything plugged into any of the other ports, apart from the power supply and the headphones?Normally the hum is due to leakage currents flowing from the power supply earth. It may of course be due to excessive ripple from the power supply.

I bought a Yoga 510 a couple of months ago, and since the day I bought I noticed that the fan is almost always noisy. So I installed "Notebook Fan Control" and it does help sometimes not always though. My laptops temperature idles between 50-57C when browsing and skyping (Audio only) without any intensive work. One of the main problems is the second I open my camera my laptops' fan start working like there's no tomorrow and the temperatures averages between 68-72C and my laptop heats up alot. As soon as I turn the camera off it goes back to 50-55C, which is already high enough. Sometimes even when I have multiple tabs on any browser the fan starts working making a loud noise and the laptop heats up. All my drivers and BIOS are up to date. Another thing is sometimes my hotkeys activate themselves automatically like airplane mode activates itself or my touchpad disables itself. I did a virus scan and theres nothing on the laptop.

Answer:Yoga 510 Fan Noise and Heating Issue

Hi there, aRamadi -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Normally if the Laptop fan is running and there is a moment the angle of the fan changes a bit and may generate minute sound, this is normal and this will not cause any issue.

You can also start by flushing out all static, remove AC adaptor and hold down power button for about 15 seconds.

Update us how it goes.

love this machine!  hate the noise!   I've read on other topics where this is covered extensively but it seems after modifying some of my settings, my fans are now currently on full blast.  I'm just wondering if theres any new updates, maybe a bios update? The machine is still usable for me, but the loudness does suck and it runs really hot.   After disabling the registry key the whine seemed to go away a bit, but I can't really tell if it's just because the fans are blowing more now.  It also seemed to get a little better after installing all the windows 8 updates but again I'm not sure.   I think i modified the registry key back to normal but the fans are still blowing full power.  I have it charging currently though... does it get hotter during recharge?  does the coil whine stop during recharge?  I'm not sure if the whine has disappeared or if the fans blowing are simply covering it up and making it inaudible.  Also I seem to be hearing some constant HD accessing now... but maybe its just fan noise.  Can not tell.   Would love to find a full fix for this, as I completely love the computer.  Thanks for reading and any ideas.

Hi, I've testing my Yoga 700 for the past 2 weeks, installing fixes and updates such as the failed graphics mathematical operations test, phantom touches, etc. The latest issue I'm having is when the latpop is handling a light load and I'm working in a quiet environment, the fan spins up and accompanied with it is a high pitched noise. It's not noticeable in an ambient environment, and only somewhat noticeable in a quiet place. But once I do notice it, it's hard to ignore... I'm wondering if anyone else is having a similar issue? It only seems to make the high pitched noise when the fan starts spinning. The source of the noise is traced to be from left side vent - below the keyboard. I tried the fix for a previous Yoga 13 post to no success. Thanks,

Hi there, I recently bought a Lenovo Yoga 3 14 with Core i7-5500U and I feel like there might be a problem with the chip because the fan is nearly constantly on and it is REALLY loud, and so far ive only done basic tasks like web browsing and document editing.

Also another unrelated problem I have is that 2-finger-tap right click isnt working on the touchpad despite the option in the settings being ticked.

Please help, I've been really dissappointed in this laptop because of these things and I'm sure it's awesome when it works properly

Answer:Yoga 3 14 High Pitched Fan Noise

Hello! I'm a first time poster. I bought a Yoga 3 two days ago, and out of the box it has been making this high pitched noise whenever the fan spins. I've read through the existing forums on this issue but can't seem to get anything to work! I love this product so much but this noise is really annoying and I can't live with it! Ill try just about anything now I'm that desperate! This is my 3rd faulty new laptop in less than a month! Thankyou all for your time!

I recently bought Yoga 910. I think there would be some problems in 'Yoga 910'.I'd like to ask you 2 questions. 1. Is it OK(normal) in this situation the fan of my Lenovo laptop(Yoga 910) sounds loudly in working such as running programs, setting programs, and so on?It looks like noise of Fan.I'm worried about sound of the fan loudly.Let me know your opinion. 2. I found out one problem that '2','W','S', and 'X' keys of my laptop(Yoga 910) keyboard don't work depending on situation.Do you know the situation?Do you have solution? Have you had kinds of experiences about that situation?Let me know your thought. Thanks,

Hello, i have windows 10 installed on my Yoga Pro 3. My problem is that everytime the laptop goes to sleep or hibernates (after wake-up), i have to troubleshoot the wifi to get it running (i think usually resetting the adapter does the trick), it fixes the problem, but hey i didn't buy a small portable laptop (which you usually close quite often) so i can wait 5 minutes to troubleshoot the wifi everytime. The wifi did work "better", it disconnected less on Windows 8.1 and works perfectly fine on ubuntu 14.04+(strange huh). Anyone has an idea on what could be causing this? The second thing is the fan. It is on from when i power up the laptop untill i shut it down and its way too loud. That is just sad for a "portable machine" like the Yoga 3 Pro (i don't feel like holding a roaring tablet in my hand). Considering we won't be getting any fixes anytime soon from lenovo, is there any software (third party) to disable or set some trigger temperature for the fan? Any other solutions? Thanks for the answers,Gregor Kristan

Hello, I'm not satisfied with fan behavior on my YOGA 500-15ISK. (i7-6500U / 8GB DDR3 / SSD 256GB / nVidia 940M) In the evening in quiet room it is very noisy. Fan speed very often jumps from 0% speed to higher even with no significantly cpu load or my pc activity and after some time (sometimes the fan does go off after few seconds, sometimes after minutes...) it jumps back to 0% and again and again.. randomly. It happens all the time, also I formated system and tried clean win10 instalation with all up to date drivers. But still same behavior. I can't see any reason why when I browse web through Chrome, watch videos, work with folders and files -> all in 2D, I have to listen this alternating louder and softer fan speed noise. Core temp software shows CPU temperature around 40C.  My old HP laptop without ssd is much quiter in 2D than this YOGA 500-15ISK. I much rather prefer constant slight noise than this constant turning on and off fan noise. It looks it is standard behavior on the Yoga laptops because of fan speed level setings, and most of Yoga users don't care, maybe can't hear that or just don't bother about that speed jumps. Or it could be some hw or sw problem? Maybe some wrong driver? How can I change speed level settings?I found program NoteBook FanControl where is config profiles for Yoga 11s and Yoga 13 and some more but nothing work to my fan speed. Proba... I too had this problem and returned the laptop for repair. It's since come back and is still making a noise. Totally gutted I ever purchased this machine. It's been a nightmare from day 1.

My Yoga 14 makes very distractig creaking noises under normal hand weight (right hand) when typing. Is this a common issue or can I expect a device without that issue if I return it for a new one?

Answer:Yoga 14: Creaking noise under right palm

Hi

I don't have that creaking noise on my TPY 14 on the right palm with normal hand weight, but I noticed that this model has some creaking/squeaking noise on the plastic if you make some preasure on the right just over the power button. I also notice some creaking noise on the top left just on the SDCard slot if you make some preasure there.  I'm thinking that those two creaking noises are part of the design of the machine.

I have just unpacked this device and carried first setup but I get a clicking noise coming from the top right side(bottom) of the laptop. The clicking (or ticking) goes on for a few seconds at a time after every 10 or so seconds.Only closing the lid or sleep mode will stop the clicking noise. Also how does one raise a support ticket as the only option I have is to send the device via post to Lenovo using the ticket raising system. Any ideas thanks.

Answer:New Yoga 3 Pro First Setup Clicking Noise

Hi muhith, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

There should be no clicking. Sounds like it's coming from the area of the fan?

Since it's brand new your choices are to return to the seller and exchange, or contact Lenovo support for repair. I would try the former first if it's still within the return and exchange period.

Hope this helps!
