My displayport to hdmi adapter won't work

Question: My displayport to hdmi adapter won't work

Hi all, I'm having problems trying to connect my computer to my tv via my display port to hdmi adapter and hdmi cord. I am no expert with this type of things however I have tried many different things I have seen on the internet with trying to get your dp to hdmi to work. But still nothing comes up on the TV. I brought the computer second hand from a company which was used for work purposes. I have a feeling that perhaps there is no drivers installed or the display port is not active... is there any specific driver I need to make sure the display port works? I am extremely out of my depth with this sort of thing.any help is greatly appreciated right now

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi crabo, Im having the same issue with Spectre x360. I dont think its a problem with your drivers, but HP looking features in order to purchase HP products. I bought a 3rd party Hub that should work (as USB C is universal), but HDMI will try to duplicate the screen for 3-4 seconds without any image on it.Can you confirm what happens when you plug your HDMI?Does your notebook have HDMI port or you use an adapter?

On my X1 Carbon 2015 I try to use two external Dell screens with  size 2560 x 1440  pixels. I attach the adapter with the mini DisplayPort contact on the computer to the DisplayPort contact on the adapter and then two screens with the DisplayPorts on the other side of the adapter. Nothing happens on the compter or screens. It does not work with attaching only one of the screens on the other side of the adapter either. Without the adapter it works fine with one screen and full resolution on both screen and computer. I hoped if both screens were active one of them would take the role of the computer screen which would inactive. I assume 2 x 2560 x 1440 is the total amount of pixels available. Is that correctly understood? Or is there anything wrong with the adapter. How can I test if that is the case?

I'm planning on connecting my W500 to my Sony KDL-40V2500 LCD television. Is there any advantage to using a DP cable and a male HDMI to female DP adapter, verses, a male DP to female HDMI adapter and using my existing HDMI cables? I would rather use the second option because it would be cheaper, plus I'm not sure if they make a male HDMI to female DP adapter. Also, please post any websites that sell these adapters (your searching skills might be better than mine). I have only been able to find a few....Monoprice, Startech, Wal-Mart is now selling one.

I'm connecting a laptop with HDMI to a Dell U2311's displayport however it's not picking up the signal.
I'm not sure if I'm answering my own question but after a bit of research a few posts have said that you can't have the DP as the input [to the monitor] if you have HDMI as output [from the visual source], you have to either have it vise-versa or just displayport to displayport.

Just asking for confirmation of this as I was sent a replacement cable after I believed the first didn't work, now I've got two of these cables which are probably both fine but I've got no other way of testing them.

Answer:HDMI to Displayport adapter problem

Apparently it is possible to go from HDMI to Displayport but you have to use an active adapter which cost about ?50+. May as well buy a new monitor

Hi gang,

I have a asus z87pro mobo. i currently have a dsub monitor and dvi monitor plugged into the appropriate ports and both monitors display independent desktops under win7 64bit quite nicely.

My specific question is:

which adapters would allow me to connect 2 additional dsub 1900*1200 monitors to both the hdmi socket and the displayport socket, so that i run a total of four monitors.

I have seen this :
HDMI
PC HDMI to VGA SVGA RGB HDTV Video Cable Converter Adapter PS3 XBOX 360 Apple TV | eBay

and this
displayport
Display Port Male to SVGA/ VGA Female Adapter Convertor Changer Cable Lead Wire | eBay

But i am unsure whether they would both allow me to run a further 3rd and 4th connected pair of dsub monitors.

Can you advise?

One week after getting my T410s (Intel graphics only) I bought a Displayport to HDMI adapter. HD video works fine, but no audio is transferred. Only the internal speakers work. What makes me sad is that no other audio device than the internal Conexant Smart Audio is displayed in the list of the playback devices. No device - no signal ...The Device Manager shows under "Sound, video and game controllers" also "Intel(R) Display Audio". The information box tells that it is working properly. But which connection uses this controller?Has anybody an idea if the hardware of the 410s (without dedicated graphics) supports audio via the Displayport ? Maybe only the proper drivers are non-existent? Hermann (Bonn, Germany)

After doing a clean Windows 10 installation, the DisplayPort on my T520 was not functional. I use it with a DP to HDMI adapter to send output to my TV. The TV was not detected. In the NVIDIA control panel, I noticed that only the 3D Settings section was visible in the left hand menu bar. In Windows Programs and Features, only the Intel HD display driver installed. I tried installing the Lenovo NVIDIA driver (Win 10 version), which also requires the Intel display driver installed first. The DisplayPort still would not function. I tried uninstalling all display drivers (Intel included) and letting Windows 10 instal the standard NVIDIA driver. The DisplayPort would still not work. SOLUTION:  Uninstall all display drivers in Windows Programs and Features, both the Intel and NVIDIA. Reboot and hit F1 to enter the BIOS configuration.  Go to Config > Display.  Change the Graphics Device to Discrete Graphics. Disable OS Detection for NVIDIA Optimus.  F10 to save and exit. Log into Windows and open the Device Manager. Verify that the Display Adapter is using the NVIDIA NVS 4200M driver. The version that is working for me is 10.18.13.5362. In the NVIDIA control panel, all sections and options now show up in the left hand menu bar and the display port works great to my TV via a passive StarTech DP2HDMI2 adapter dongle. When I plug it in, my TV is recognized and the F7 screen toggle works great.&... Read more

When customizing my M93P I think I've misinterpreted the options under "Additional I/O". Now I believe choosing "DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable" or "DisplayPort to HDMI Video Adapter Converter" would have actually given me an additional port above the VGA port? I thought they were just adapters for the existing DisplayPort. Is it possible to source a part and install it myself?

I am trying to get dual display working on my Lenovo M58 ultra small form factor desktop. I am using two Dell 19" monitors. I'm considering replacing my office desktop with a w530. Unfortunatley I don't have enough funds to replace my current 30" monitor which only has DVI input. I understand the w530 (or its dock) does not have DualLink DVI output. So, can anyone here verify whether a DP to DualLink DVI adapter can be used with the w530 to output 2560x1600 DVI output? I know the x201t was NOT capable of it. (I tried, Lenovo support finally admitted that the video chip is not capable of outputting DualLink DVI even through a DP/DVI adapter.)

Answer:DisplayPort to DualLink DVI adapter - does it work on the w530?

There are several adapters on the market from Apple, Accell, Monoprice.com, Startech, etc. Keep in mind you are looking for mini DP -> Dual Link DVI. I believe most of them support up to 2560x1600 and they should work with your notebook and monitor.  It might take some trial and error but I am sure you'll find one that works.

Hi, I REALLY need your help!
As said in the title I am using a HD 6970 (XFX btw) connected as said. HDMI goes to a TV wich I use as TV or monitor, as needed. HDMI goes to a 1080p monitor, VGA to a 1366x768.
What I am really wondering about: THERE NEVER WAS A PROBLEM, everything functioned as it should (after figuring out how to connect more than two displays to a HD 6970), for about three to four weeks now. But from one day to another this conifguration just stopped working. Now I am only able to use 2 monitors, windows showing a error like "Displayport connection failure - requested resolution and refresh rate can't be determined".
I already tested a LOT of possible different connections to my monitors with the result that no monitor is showing a defect. They are all working. I also plugged my graphics card out and in again.
Am I right if say the problem has to be set at the cables, the adapters or the graphic outputs?
I'd really appreciate if you could somehow help me exactly locating the problem! Thanks in advance!!

HelloI use a Lenovo TP X1 (Type 12942NG)After a crash I setup the laptop with a original MS Windows 7 Pro CD. I can't recover from a Lenovo Recover DVD. I use the Lenovo System Upgrade Tool to install all drivers etc. But the displayport with the VGA adapter doesn't work. It's not a hardware problem. When I boot linux the VGA adapter works. When I connect to a external monitor or beamer the system detects that. When I use the function "clone display" the buildin display reduce the resol. but no signal to external display. When I use the function "extend display" the buildin display is dark (but active !) an also no signal to external display. I read also the blog how-to connect an external display. there is mention to use the "Extended Settings" Link after select the external monitor but in my case this Link isn't active. Any hints for this problem ? Regards Gerald

Answer:External Monitor/Beamer doesn't work with X1 and Lenovo Displayport/VGA adapter

Hi ederg:

You may want to download/update: Monitor file for Windows 7 (Thinkpad)

The reason I say that is because the readme it states, "If you use the preload environment, you do not need this package. This package is required when you install Windows OS without the preload image."

Since you setup the Thinkpad with Windows 7 Pro CD and no longer have the preload image, this may fix the problem.

Also, have you checked the website for the displayport manufacturer? They may have updated drivers there that wouldn't have been on the update tool you used.

*Edit* You can also check the: External monitors issues section here. It goes over some basic troubleshooting you may want to try first (I just came across it now)

Let us know how it turns out!

I have purchased several M92p tiny computers and had great success with them. however, we are wanting to start hooking up 4 monitors as advertised using the ?Displayport to Dual Displayport adapters? to connect two identical monitors to a single displayport on the PC. When we hook up this adapter neither monitor connect. The status lights on the adapter for each displayport just blinks green (I assume they should be solid green lights). Does anyone have any idea what is going on with these adapters or can locate any technical documenation for them. I have verified the displayports on the computers work by connecting monitors directly to them, I have tried several different display driver options since the device doesnt have any drivers, and different types of monitors. I have called lenovo support and they say everything is working as designed? ( yet nothing displays? at all?) Any suggestions or help is greatly appricated.

Are there any adapters to do this or ways to do this? I can't seem to find any.

I am buying new monitors, the dell u2414h. Now, while this does have hdmi, I will be connecting multiple monitors together to extend the display from the laptop to give me multiple screens. The problem with this is that it only works if you use displayport and not hdmi, so I need a way to convert the hdmi to displayport or mini displayport.

I will primarily be using these monitors with my laptop that has displayport, so that is why I am getting these monitors and that won't be a problem. I will most likely hook up other laptops to the monitors and hdmi is way more common from what I have seen on laptops than displayport and is why I need a way to go from hdmi to displayport or mini displayport.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Answer:Hdmi to Displayport/Mini Displayport

You can't, HDMI does not support daisy chaining in the manner that DisplayPort does and you can't use a simply adapter to go from HDMI to DisplayPort and get the features of DisplayPort.

I have an XPS 12 9250 with an external Dell Adapter USB Type C to HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB 470-ABQN.  This adapter is working for Ethernet and VGA, but the USB port is not working.  I suspect that I need the correct drivers installed.  When I plug in my windows phone or my android phone, both devices show that they are charging, but windows 10 does not indicate that it sees the devices.  If I plug in an external keyboard to the adapter's USB port, windows 10 does not react, and the keyboard lights do not come on (keyboard works fine on 2 other computers).
So, I'm pretty sure I've installed all the latest drivers that are listed on support.dell.com for the xps 12 9250, but it's hard to tell as there seem to be scores of them.
Is anyone else having this problem?  Can anyone tell me which specific drivers I need to get USB working?  Thank you

Ok I?ve seen several pages on the issue but most are DisplayPort on monitor to hdmi on computer. I have the nvidia 1070 graphics card and only have one hdmi port and prefer to use that one from tv to watch movies with family while still being able to mess with stuff on computer. Well I bought a new monitor on cyber Monday and just realized it was vga and hdmi output. My question is can I but the hdmi to display port adapter from dell and it work with DisplayPort on computer and hdmi on monitor. I ask cause the discription reads as only working DisplayPort on monitor to hdmi computer.

Answer:DisplayPort to hdmi

* A video card has OUT ports and a monitor has IN ports* If your monitor has the HDMI in port, then you could setup in this way =Nvidia GTX 1070 DP out port --> DP to HDMI cable --> Monitor HDMI in portNvidia GTX 1070 HDMI out port --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> TV HDMI in port

How do you know the TV is detecting the signal if it is displaying a "No Signal" message?

If the TV has more than one input, have you confirmed that the HDMI input from the computer is selected?

According to HP, your computer is an older model that came with either Windows 7 or Windows Vista.
http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03412787

In either case, it is possible that the computer is booting up with a video resolution and/or refresh rate that is incompatible with your TV. You could try booting in Safe Mode and see if you get a usable display. Here are HP's instructions for WIndows Vista:
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01767672

And for Windows 7:
https://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc...432827&docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-c01835750

If that works, you can then experiment with different resolutions and refresh rates. If one of the experiments results in a no signal message, wait up to about 30 seconds without touching any keys or mouse buttons and the computer should revert to the previous settings. The resolution should be set to the native resolution of the TV's screen and the fastest refresh rate possible.

Hi all, I'm having issues with DisplayPort to HDMI on one of our Dell S2415H monitors. We have a ThinkCentre E73 slim tower. 8GB RAM, 120GB SSD, Intel i5 4460S (from memory) Current setup is VGA to VGA on a S2415H monitor and the second monitor is connect by a DisplayPort to HDMI cable plugged into a S2415H This one to be precise:http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cable-Matters-Plated-DisplayPort/dp/B004C9P9TM/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=145250... The issue is that the display isn't detected by the DisplayPort unless I unplug it and plug it back in. When I do this, everything works well. As soon as the Lenovo is powered off and back on, the display isn't detected meaning you have to unplug the DisplayPort from the back of the PC and plug it back in This happens when both VGA and DisplayPort are in use and DisplayPort only. I've done some searching and checked BIOS for DisplayPort settings but they aren't any. BIOS is latest as of last week. There seems to be a lot of DisplayPort issues but none quite match what I'm experiencing. Any help appreciated Thanks all

Hi Guys, I have a W500 and I have just bought a displayport to hdmi adapter and a hdmi cable. I have a Samsung T240 monitor. When I am trying to connect my W500 to the T240 with hdmi, it is not detected. Analog works fine, DVI works fine (I have another Macbook Pro), but the displayport to hdmi doesn't work at all.  I have the discrete graphics enabled, no joy. I tried changing the Bios settings so that it boots directly with displayport - no joy. After 2 restarts it comes back to switchable graphics, and the Hdmi signal is still not detected by the monitor.  What should I do to have the 2 devices connected properly? How can I check if the displayport on my w500 is working (and is enabled)? Thanks

Answer:Displayport to HDMI not working

Hi Ciupacabra, Welcome to the Lenovo forum  Your W500 should be able to drive an HDMI monitor from its DisplayPort, as you are trying to do. You will need to select the ATI GPU for this: Discrete or Switchable (not Integrated) graphics in BIOS setup. For reference, here are Samsung T240 specs (from Newegg):24"1920x1200D-Sub, DVI, and HDMI inputs Some things you could try:Make sure you're using the ATI GPU, as per above. (You said you are, this is for benefit of others reading this).Try turning off and *unplugging* your monitor for ~30 seconds, then plug it back in, power it on, then power on your ThinkPad. I found that sequence necessary to un-wedge my similar monitor... irritating, but only needed to do it once.If possible, try connecting your ThinkPad using same cables to another HDMI monitor / HDTV. If that works, then at least you know your cables are ok.You could try using a DisplayPort -> DVI cable to drive your Samsung's DVI input. (Maybe there's something wonky with its HDMI input?) Good luck, please let us know how it goes.-Frank

There is something very weird going on with my W520.If I use a displayport->DVI on my 22 inch monitor everything works fine. When I plug my displayport->HDMI to my LG TV nothing happens.Actually it worked twice and I think my w520 was only using battery. But now, even with battery or ac, it's not working.I've tried all bios graphic card possibilities. There is no signal to the TV and my computer don't recognize anything. Any clue?

Answer:DisplayPort->HDMI to TV not working

I had some issues with this recently too.Anytime I plugged the HDMI into the adapter and then plugged the adapter into the Display Port it wouldn't work -- but if I plugged in the adapter (with NO HDMI) and THEN plugged in the HDMI cable it DID work -- it took me a long time to realize my issue was the order I plugged the cables in -- it seems like it shouldn't matter, but it made all the difference for me.

I know that they're has been a few post already on this, but nothing is working for me. I have t520 and  I just bought this http://www.amazon.com/High-Quality-Black-DisplayPort-Cable/dp/B002CSRF9M/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1349... It says it can do full digital audio support. When I plug it in and go to the sound option. It says for Hdmi there is nothing plug in. So then I went to smart audio. It's not showing up. So I really don't know what to do. Ps. What is the point have having a display port. Why can't they have a HDMI port

Answer:displayport to hdmi no sound

The one I have is at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001TUZ6EU/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00 and looks identical to the one you bought.  Mine was tested and used between a T420 and W510 and my Samsung HDTV.  Worked fine for me.

Hello everyone, I've got a T440s and the docking station has a Displayport and an HDMI port, on top of the usual VGA port. Right now I'm outputting to two monitors with the HDMI & VGA, and would rather use the HDMI on the 2nd monitor than the VGA.  So I bought a Displayport - HDMI converter which works fine by itself but when I use both the Displayport & HDMI only the Displayport output works.  Of course I unplugged the VGA. Any suggestions?  Is what I'm trying to do even possible? Thanks

This is not a hard question.  Especially for Lenovo.  Can I connect a Displayport to HDMI adaptor on my W500, and watch (and hear) blueray disks on my HD TV?  Does the W500 send audio to the displayport?  It should?

Solved!

Answer:Displayport to HDMI with audio

I have a W700 and would also like these questions answered: 1. Does the DisplayPort output the audio as both the DisplayPort and HDMI specifications call for?2. Will the audio pass-through from the DisplayPort output to an HDMI adapter? Since Windows Vista is an HDCP compliant operating system and I have paid $400 extra for the BluRay drive option I would expect this to be the case. I ask this as I see that Lenovo has disabled the SPDIF and Optical digital audio outputs on the soundcard included with the W700, and I assume this is also true of the W500.  DRM is not a good enough reason to proactively prevent customers from enjoying the legitimate use of their products to play protected content. The analog line outputs on most notebooks including the W700 off only two-channel output along with high levels of distortion and noise so this issue really ought to be worth Lenovo's time in addressing.

I replaced my monitor with a Dell that has VGA, DVI and DisplayPort. My PC outputs VGA or HDMI, so I'm using an HDMI to DVI cable(previous monitor is VGA and DVI only). My only gripe with this cable is that the DVI end is hard to attach/remove. I can get HDMI-DisplayPort cables or adapters, this would be so much easier to deal with than trying to screw that DVI cable in place, but I need to know if outputting HDMI into the DisplayPort is going to cause any issues with picture quality.

I see either dedicated cables or converter boxes on eBay, converter box would be cheaper and I can use whatever HDMI cable I have on hand.

So I have a Thinkpad T510 with NVIDIA Quadro NVS 3100M with a VGA out and Displayport out. Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

For the past few months I have simply just used a VGA cord from the VGA out to the tv and used external speakers for my tv setup.

I recently bought a Displayport to HDMI adapter so I can pass both video and sound to my tv digitally.

Video and sound passthrough works just fine, my laptop picks the tv as a secondary display. But I can`t get it to run at 1080p. Over VGA it automatically set itself to 1920x1080 and never had an issue. Now over HDMI, it picks up at 1360x768 50Hz. NVIDIA control panel recognizes 1920x1080 as native but when I set it to that setting, the screen edges are cut off (top, bottom, left right), they are off the screen. I`ve read this is what is called "overscan", but I`m no television expert. I tried resizing the screen but then another issue became apperent, green dots all over the green like snow, in different positions as time passes.

I have ruled out the new DP to HDMI adapter by pluggging my laptop with the same adapter and hdmi cord to my ASUS VH222H monitor through its own HDMI input, automatically runs at 1080p with sound with none of the above issues.

I have spent a few hours reading through similar topics on this forum and others but most conclude with driver update. Unforunately since Lenovo opted out of Nvidia`s driver program, Im stuck with Lenovo`s driver which is quite old (Sept 2010) so thats off the table. I`ve re... Read more

Hello & welcome to sevenforums,

What's about duplicate the laptop screen over the Hdmi cable in the Windows 7 display settings, not your video card drivers?
So the laptop will be overscan, but not the digital TV that will have the full screen without any black borders or cutted edges.

But looks the duplicate display will stay at 1366x768 / 60hertz, 32bits colors.

Hi All I've got a Helix 2, which I'm happy with. I was thinking of getting a couple of external monitors so I can be more productive when working from home. So there's a mini-HDMI connection on the actual tablet for adding 1 additional monitor - fair enough. On the Pro keyboard there's a handy DisplayPort connector, which I assume is version 1.2 so I can theoretically drive up to 4 additional 1080p monitors. From my limited knowledge of these things, this connector could either be driven by a USB graphics card inside the Pro keyboard or could use the GPU inside the Helix (I believe the latter is the best method for less lag and faster refresh rates). It seems like no one knows exactly what method Lenovo utilises but either way, giving me two different connection options makes lots of sense! However, I'm puzzled by why they opted for a HDMI connection on the tablet dock. This only allows for one external monitor meaning I'd have to plug in a USB graphics card to drive additional monitors. Why is this?

Answer:HDMI and DisplayPort Question

Ah, it appears to be because the tablet dock was also for the thinkpad 10, which doesn't support DisplayPort. So Lenovo re-used existing kit rather than bring out kit more suited for the Helix 2. Very annoying.

I am looking at going to a GTX1080 GPU from my current 980, but am having a problem getting information. Currently I am running from HDMI ports over 3 monitors at 1920*1080, and 1 at 4k. The 1080 only has 1 HDMI and 3 displayport 1.4, so I will need new cables. I only have HDMI 2.0 ports on the monitors, so its going to be a conversion job.

Question is, whats the best way to set up? From the 980 I was running straight HDMI leads, but dont know if it is better to run all monitors off HDMI/Displayport cables, or run the 4k off the HDMI. I also have a Vive that needs a port, and again this would be preferable to install directly.

The problem is that info seems to be scarce on the actual capabilities of each port setup. (I.e. resolution, FPs, and the croosover from DP to HDMI). Anyone got any knowledge and can suggest a setup? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Displayport and HDMI questions

HDMI for one, DisplayPort to HDMI cables or adapters for the other two. There's no benefits to use DisplayPort to HDMI over straight HDMI, but there shouldn't be any negatives either, other then buying the adapters.

Answer:Startech Displayport to hdmi

Hi Fourfromthefloo,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issues with External display after connecting it from HDMI to DP on your ThinkPad 420s.

Please make sure you have updated all the drivers and application for your system, if you have not updated then use ThinkVantage system update tool.

Usually this kind of issue resolves if you update the graphic driver.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Hi, I recently bought a Mini Displayport to connect my Lenovo Thinkpad T530 to my Toshiba TV.  It worked for a couple of days, but all of the sudden it stopped working after it came unpluged (I plugged it in again and that's when it stopped working).  The TV is flashing as if it does not have anything connected ("No video Signal.").  Windows 8.1 had an update last week, but I don't think that was the problem because it worked after the update.  I seen a couple of different topics about this, but none seemed to have a defined answer. Cheers

hey guys, I have a little problem outputting my notebook onto my samsung hd tv. I just bought a Display Port to HDMI cable and when I plug my laptop onto my 1080p tv, it doesnt show full screen (looks like it keeps the 1680x1050 res). Looks like it utilize 80% of the tv screen even if it's set to 1920x1080. After spending like an hour trying to make it work (set notebook and tv as clone, only notebook, only tv screen), I decided to use the dvi to componant output and it worked out the first shot full screen on my tv. Any thoughts on this? Is it possible that I cannot make it work full screen with my Display port to HDMI wire? Sounds weird...

Hello all, I have found numerous entries about this topic, but no definitive answer to my question so I thought I would ask you all.I have an old x200t (purchased 2008-2009) and to make a long story short the Windows OS license doesn?t work anymore. Consequently for the past 3 years or so the computer became a paperweight. Looking to harvest some functionality out of it I thought about installing ubuntu (or chrome OS... I guess) on the machine and hooking it up to an x200 ultrabase (that I would buy in the future) to display the laptop on an HDTV for the kids (would buy a wireless mouse and keyboard as well). Before I go through all the trouble I had a couple of questions.... 1) Does the displayport on an ultrabase work with a laptop running ubuntu or chrome OS? (I am pretty confident that it works with ubuntu, but don't know about chrome. I am considering chrome because kids would primarily be using it and chrome seems like a better fit for them) 2) It seems like for some transmitting audio over a displayport to an hdmi port was an issue, but for others this was not an issue. I am curious if the hardware caused the problem or if this problem was fixed with updated drivers. If it was fixed with a driver, would the driver work on an ubuntu or chrome OS? If it was a hardware issue, is there another solution to the problem besides plugging an aux cord from the computer to the tv. I briefly looked and I didn't see an adapter that would convert a displayport and an aux... Read more

Hi everyone,
I do not have much knowledge in these areas and I have tried to do my research.
I am currently using HP Envy Touchsmart 15, which only has a HDMI v1.4 port (no DisplayPort). Also, I have just recently bought a 4K Monitor: Dell UP2414Q. This monitor can support 4K @ 60Hz with DP1.2, and @ 30Hz with HDMI.
Quick question: will I ever be able to fully use the monitor at 4K resolution @ 60Hz with this laptop?
I have tried using a HDMI to DP cable, but the laptop is unable to detect the monitor.
I am also aware that my laptop's HDMI v1.4 can only support up to
1920×1080 @ 60Hz. However, when I connect the laptop to the monitor using HDMI cable, it works fine, and it says the resolution of the monitor is at 4K @ 30Hz.
So I am wondering if the problem is with the HDMI to DP cable that I bought?
Will buying a HDMI to DP cable which says that it support 4K resolution work? Or is it limited by my laptop's HDMI v1.4 port?
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
Hendrick

Hey guys. I'm trying to connect my HP Elitebook 8440p to my Toshiba flatscreen TV using a Displayport to HDMI connector. The video works no problem, but sadly there is no sound

I've put in about 2-3 hours trying to google solutions on my own to no avail. From what I have read, I should see an 'HDMI out' option in my playback devices list, but all I see are 'Speakers / HP IDT High definition audio CODEC' and 'Headphones (RTC) IDT High definition audio CODEC.' I have both show disabled and show disconnected devices enabled.

If I open up my nvidia control panel and select the 'Set up digital audio' option, I have the option to select my TV, but when I hit apply I still get no sound and no additional options appear in my playback devices list.

As far as I can tell all of my drivers are up to date.

Thanks for reading!

Answer:Displayport->HDMI sound issues.

It's possible that audio over DP isn't supported in your model.

I don't know that it will be shown as "HDMI" as it's not an HDMI port. It could be something like "Digital Audio (HDMI)", but that's just a guess. You can check to see if there are any devices not being displayed. If you right click on the speaker in the taskbar -> playback devices. Right click the white space and select the option for "Show Disconnected Devices" and "Show Disabled Devices".

I have read thru the similar threads regarding using the mini displayport on the W530 and seem to get some conflicting info.  I bought an mini display port to HDMI adapter and am trying to connect it to my Samsung monitor and it does not work, no signal is detected in either extend or duplicate mode. What BIOS settings do I need to set (mine are currently at the default) and what drivers if any do I need to update to make this work? When using the vga adapter port with the same monitor it works with no additional changes.

Answer:using the mini displayport to HDMI on W530

Please provide more information...

Are you running with the BIOS set to config -> Display -> "Optimus mode", or "discrete graphics"?

If Optimus mode, do you have the latest Lenovo-provided Optimus video driver installed for both Intel graphics as well as K1000M?  If discrete graphics mode, do you have the latest nVidia-provided retail driver installed for the K1000M?

Are you up-to-date with Windows Updates?

I have a brand new T530 with the i7 I have a presentation on Wednesday that requires I connect to a HDMI TV (need video and audio). I purchased the Belkin adapter today but when I connect to my Panasonic Plasma the T530 does not see the connection  no matter what I do. Is there some other adapter I should be purchasing? Sure wish they had just put a mini HDMI on the T530 like my last computer had. Anybody know of an adapter that works for sure? thx

I have a P71 on order with P5000 Video card. According to the card specs, it supports HDMI 2.0 and DP1.4. However the overall P71 spec sheet only lists HDMI 1.4 and DP1.2.  Since some of the VR hardware I?m looking at requires HDMI 2.0 or DP1.4, this is a concern. Can someone verify what the specs are of the P71 with this Video card? Thanks! wayne

Hi there, I just want to connect DisplayPort on my T400s to HDMI port on HDTV. I am thinking about the following two methods but I am not so sure if either of them works out:1) Using a Displayport-to-HDMI converter (like this one http://www.startech.com/item/DP2HDMI-DisplayPort-to-HDMI-Cable-Adapter-Converter.aspx) and a HDMI/male-HDMI/male cable.2) Directly using a DisplayPort/male-HDMI/male cable (like this one  http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10246&cs_id=1024607&p_id=6013&seq=1&for...) Do you think they both work? By the way, I am fully aware that by using the above connection, if it works, there is only video but audio. In order to get the audio, can I use this cable http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10218&cs_id=1021802&p_id=645&seq=1&form... or this one http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10218&cs_id=1021804&p_id=5600&seq=1&for... to get the analog sound from my laptop to HDTV. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:DisplayPort on T400s to HDMI on HDTV

Hi LittleBear,

Either of the video cables (1) or (2) will work. In general, the fewer connections you have to make, the fewer places for signal quality to be degraded. So I'd prefer (2).

The HDTVs I've seen have dual RCA inputs for analog stereo audio. So the second audio cable you listed, the one that goes from a stereo 3.5mm plug to dual RCA plugs, is the way to go.

Thanks for doing your research and realizing that you need both video and audio cables.

Good luck!
-Frank

The Precision 7720 with P5000 video card is specced at DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 1.4 and Thunderbolt 3. I know that you can get adapters to go from DP to HDMI or Thunderbolt to DP and HDMI though. If I have an application that requires HDMI 2.0 for example, can you get it from the Thunderbolt 3 port or the DisplayPort or is there an underlying limit to HDMI 1.4 in the processor itself? I'm having a hard time understanding the various capabilities.

Answer:HDMI/DisplayPort/Thunderbolt Questions

Hey Wayne,
First, be aware that just because a GPU supports something, it does not mean that it was implemented in the rest of the system.  There are GPUs in PCs that support far more displays than the system does because the OEM chose not to wire as many display outputs as possible to the GPU, for example.
Second, Thunderbolt 3 to the best of my knowledge only carries DisplayPort 1.2, even if the GPU supports DisplayPort 1.4, and it also only carries DisplayPort; it will not natively output HDMI, DVI, or VGA.
In terms of HDMI 2.0, it depends on what you're trying to do there. If you need 4K @ 60 Hz, that's achievable.  If you need HDR, that is NOT at the moment; no laptop on the market that I'm aware of supports HDR at this time, although it's also such a problem with Windows and GPU drivers right now that it's hardly worth it, but that's another story.
But if you only need 4K @ 60 Hz and only from a single display, the simplest way to achieve that is with a USB-C (not Thunderbolt 3) to HDMI 2.0 adapter.  USB Type-C when used exclusively for video (i.e. not being required to carry USB traffic at the same time, as it would be with a dock) has the bandwidth of a full DisplayPort 1.2 output, which is enough bandwidth for 4K @ 60 Hz.
If you need two 4K @ 60 Hz displays simultaneously, you would need a Thunderbolt 3 to Dual DisplayPort adapter and then a pair of active DisplayPort to HDMI adapters that support 4K @ 60 Hz.  The "act... Read more

Hello, I'm trying to connect my Lenovo X230 convertible tablet to a Philips FTV series TV. I'm using a DP male to HDMI female conversion cable (about 15cm long) and a HDMI male/male cable to connect the TV. When connecting the TV, the laptop recognizes the secondary screen (i.e. the TV), the laptop screen makes a short flick, a short sound is being heard (just like when you plug a USB device for example), then the sound from the speakers stops (probably redirected through the HDMI), but absolutely no picture or sound on the TV ("No signal" message is being shown). On the other hand, the analog VGA port works and the secondary monitor is recognized (probably through the I2C interface). The same happens with my Lenovo W500 laptop - I can use only the old fashioned VGA port. Any help on resolving this problem is higly appreciated. Thanks for your help,Ivaylo

I'm attempting to use the mini displayport output on my laptop to connect to a device that takes HDMI. I am using the following adapter: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003OC6LWM/ref=oh_details_o07_s00_i01 When I connect it to the external display, nothing happens, and no new display shows up in the display settings. I have tried this in both Windows 7, and Ubuntu 12.10, but it still doesn't work.  What am I doing wrong?

Answer:T430s - Mini Displayport to HDMI

Hi, xur17

This issue could stem from a few causes. Firstly, have you ensured that all the hardware is working properly? Can you display an image from the computer using only a DisplayPort cable? Is the second monitor working properly, and can it receive signals through the HDMI port? Lastly, is the adapter working properly? This may a bit harder to test, but there are any other devices with those two ports, I would try to hook those up and see if anything happens.

Another recommendation would just be to ensure that the BIOS and other drivers of your machine are up to date. All drivers for your machine can be found here. The dropdown menus can be used to filter by operating system and device type.

Best of luck, and let me know how it goes
Adam

Which port do you use on your Tecra notebook?

I have a T500 model 2081-CTO running XP pro with the ATI mobility Radeon HD 3650 card.  I run dual monitors at office & home office via port replicators & DVI. I'm trying to use use an HDTV as external monitor.  (I've read the thread on the Displayport not carrying audio; while disappointed with that SNAFU, I'm just trying to get display at this point.) I picked up a displayport to HDMI adaptor and then run the HDMI cable into an AV reciever which patches to the HDTV.  I've updated the ATI driver, but just no luck so far.  Pretty sure I have the AVR set as pass-through of the signal.  Have others done any HTPC set up with this configuration using displayport to HDMI adaptor?

Hi andybrwn, I'd suggest connecting the DisplayPort-HDMI cable directly to your HDTV to see if that works (it should). Probably your trouble is with your AVR. Good luck,Frank

It seems NO Thinkpad comes with an HDMI port, but rather the DisplayPort, which makes separate HDMI and DVI connectors unnecessary, is that about right? But as I do further research, it appears that an HDMI port would carry the audio just fine together with the video part, but how would I simply play a Bluray movie in my W700 with its DisplayPort *with* the audio?? How do I get the audio transferred to my HDTV, which does have multiple HDMI ports on the front and back? Thank you for your responses. Thank you!

Answer:DisplayPort basically HDMI+DVI, but no audio?

SL Thinkpad has HDMI port, but the other thinkpad have the Display port. The displayport on current thinkpads do not carry audio signal, so you will have to seek other methods of connecting the audio signal through the audio jack.

I purchased a MiniDP to HDMI cable that is capable of 4k resolution. I hooked it up to my X1 (Gen1, model 3444-G7U) laptop into my LG TV (which also supports 4k). I can't get the TV to go above 1080p! Again, the TV is brand new and 4k capable, the MiniDP to HDMI cable is 4k capable, and it's connected from my X1 laptop's MiniDP port.

On my Lenovo W530, there is a Mini DisplayPort connector.  I just purchased a HDMI converter so I can project my laptop onto a larger screen (my TV in this case) via HDMI.  I can get it to work via the FN-7 (change display fro the laptop desktop) and show both audio/video on the large screen,  However, I can ONLY get to projector-only mode.  I can't seem to have the display on both my laptop and TV screen at the same time. Is this possible to have both the laptop and HDMI conncted device display the contents of Windows 7 at the same time?

Answer:W530 Mini DisplayPort to HDMI TV Issue

You need to do more than just Fn+F7 to make this happen.  You want to reconfigure things to go into "clone mode", which requires the following steps.

(1) Since I run with AC power, I have BIOS set on my W530 to "use discrete graphics". I have no interest in using the HD4000 built-in graphics. I only want to use the K1000M.

(2) I am not using Optimus driver from Lenovo, and have the "Optimus" feature also DISABLED in the BIOS. I am using the latest "retail" nVidia driver 332.21 obtained from the nVidia site, driving the K1000M directly.

(3) I normally run using only me external 24" Eizo monitor (DP connector), connected to the miniDP connector on the W530 with a standard miniDP->DP cable. But you can use a miniDP->HDMI cable or similar adapter/cable if you want to drive a monitor or HDTV using an HDMI connection.  Normal configuration has the Eizo running at 1920x1200 resolution (native) although the W530 laptop screen is 1920x1080, but this is not a problem as long as the laptop screen is disabled.

(4) Ok. My normal mode is to NOT be using the laptop LCD screen for anything.  So I have the laptop screen disabled using "set up multiple displays" in nVidia Control Panel, which normally looks as follows:

Link to picture

(5) Next, I would CHECK the currently un-checked laptop box, activating the laptop screen (which initially will then become re-activated as monitor #1 in an "extended desktop" configuration, which is ... Read more

Hi,
I just got a new laptop, and I'm having trouble connecting all three external screens as I used on the old machine. On the old computer I connected two screens using the d-ports on my docking station in combination with one display using the hdmi port in my laptop. Now, with my new computer, I can either connect two screens via the d-port's on my docking station, but then the hdmi port does not work, and the display says there is no signal coming out of my computer. When I pull the two d-port cords out, the hdmi port starts working automatically.
- Intel HD Graphics 5500 (same as the old laptop)- 3x Dell U2415 screens
Is there a way the hdmi port on my laptop can work simultaneously with the d-ports on the docking station while it is docked? (It worked fine on the old one)

So i got a new pc along these lines:
Kontron KTQM87(its a mobo with an integrated intel i7 4860EQ and an iris pro 5200)
8 gigs of hyperx blue 1600mhz ram
Bitfenix whisper 450w
and i already have a LG 24MP55.

My motherboard has 3 Displayport 1.2 outputs. I red the manual which stated that it supports a passive Displayport-HDMI adatper so i got a maleDP-maleHDMI cabel.(My monitor has 1 HDMI and 1 DSUB port).
When i connect my pc to the monitor i get no signal. The HDMI port on my monitor works, it's hooked up to my older pc right now. The curious part is that if i use a HDMI-DVI adapter on the HDMI end of the cabel and connect it to my brother's monitor using the DVI end everything works fine.
Sadly i dont have a femaleDVI-maleDSUB adapter on hand. I restarted everything numerous times and checked if all the cabels are pluged in correctly.

TLDR: DP port on monitor->DP-HDMI cabel->HDMI port on monitor= NO SIGNAL
DP port on monitor->DP-HDMI cabel->HDMI-DVI adapter->DVI port on monitor = WORKS

I own an HP 8440p with the NVS3100 graphics card. I have tried all suggestions regarding getting the DisplayPort to pass audio through a DP-to-HDMI adapter with no success. I have even tried purchasing multiple adapters in the hopes of findingone that worked, even HP's own pricey adapter.  Can I conclude that it is now settled that the HP 8440p with the discreet NVS3100 (not the integraed Intel Graphics) simply cannot be made to pass audio from the DisplayPort to to an HDMI adpter? If the answer is that it cannot then I will start shopping for a new laptop with a native HDMI and not the troublesome DisplayPort. Thanx, Redlyne

Hi, acccording to the product specification "Intel HD Graphics in processor, uses main memory, DirectX  11.1, twoDisplayPort, one optional 3rd DP (not support DP to HDMI dongle) or VGA, supports triple independent display;" I should be able to connect my M600 to a TV with a HDMI connection. I have connected one of the two DisplayPorts to a PC monitor (DisplayPort to DVI cable). This works fine. Then I wanted to connect the other DisplayPort using a DisplayPort to HDMI cable to a TV (which has the explicit statement "PC input" on its packaging) but there's no signal according to the TV. Of course I pressed Win+P on the computer several times and selected the corresponding source on the TV. Furthermore, I tried it with the other DisplayPort - same result. Even if I disconnect the monitor use only the TV this does not work. What can I do?

Does anyone know whether the Displayport on the ThinkPad T500 transmits an HDMI signal natively, or is some sort of adapter required to connect the Displayport to an HDMI display?  I ask because there seem to be two kinds of Displayport-to-HDMI cables on the market: active (i.e., that "translate" the signal into HDMI) and passive (that merely pass the signal to the HDMI port as-is).  I want to make sure I buy the right cable.  If the T500 Displayport "speaks" HDMI already, then a passive cable should be sufficient.  Does anyone know? Also - can the integrated graphics in the T500 (x4500HD) handle a dual-display setup in which one screen is the Thinkpad LCD and the other is an external monitor connected via Displayport?  This isn't a problem with VGA, so I'd be surprised if Displayport couldn't do it, but I thought I'd ask.
