Thinkpad Yoga S1 touchpad and trackpoint completely unresponsive and backlit keyboard doesn't work.

Question: Thinkpad Yoga S1 touchpad and trackpoint completely unresponsive and backlit keyboard doesn't work.

I was having responsiveness issues with the trackpad for a while, then, i open my laptop one day and it's completely unresponsive, as well has the backlit keyboard not working (the hotkey still pops up that it's "lighting up" the keyboard, but no actual lights) and the trackpoint being completely unresponsive too. I've tried:- Restarting computer- Using Lenovo's various "fixing" softwares- Looking for a keyboard firmware shortcut for enabling/disabling trackpad, (doesn't exist on this computer)- Re installing drivers (Ultranav driver refuses to install manually, "driver installation failed")- Booting on a non microsoft OS (Booted on a linux Mint installation and it still doesn't work)- Booting into BIOS and looking for "enable/disable trackpad option", That option does not exist for me.- Opening up computer and checking the physical connection, All plugged in fine. When i open the device manager in windows there is no entry for the mouse whatsoever. The touch screen and the pen both work fine. I think it all points towards a hardware issue, i can pick up another trackpad on ebay for pretty cheap, but obviously i'd like to make sure that it would actually solve the issues. The major confusion for me is that why would faulty trackpad hardware stop the backlit keyboard from lighting up? How are the two linked? Any ideas appreciated, Thanks!

Preferred Solution: Thinkpad Yoga S1 touchpad and trackpoint completely unresponsive and backlit keyboard doesn't work.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

After using the ThinkPad Yoga 260 for about two weeks, both the trackpoint and touchpad are now unresponsive. I've tried updating the drivers, rolling back the drivers and uninstalling the drivers and installing the latest one. None of it works. I managed to get it working once with a BIOS update but as soon as I put it in sleep mode, both became unresponsive again. Under Mouse Porperties the TouchPad option is grayed out and the TrackPoint option is sometimes grayed out and sometimes not. Regardless, it is completely unresponsive when enabled and disabled.

Thinkpad Yoga user here.  I'm having a problem when I wake my computer up from sleep (or sometimes on re-boot) the trackpoint and touchpad do not work.  The touch screen is still fine and if I plug in a USB mouse the cursor shows up then. This has been happening intermittently over the past 2 months or so, it is becomming more frequent. It usually requires a hard reboot (where I hold the power button until the machine turns off) before the trackpoint and touchpad come back.  Recently even this hasn't worked every time.  It has come to the point where, if I put my computer into sleep, there's probably a 75% chance the pointers won't work when I wake it up and that it will require multiple re-boots to get them back. I don't know if this is an issue with the synaptic drivers (I've updated them, reverted to older versions, uninstalled and reinstalled but the problem continues). Or maybe it is a hardware problem, I'm not sure. If anyone (preferably lenovo) has any suggestions on how to fix this, I wold be very appreciative. Thanks!

Hi, the touchpad and trackpoint in my X220 notebook don't work. I've tried under Windows 7, 8, 10 x64, and Linux too, but no success. I've tried several drivers, UltraNav and Synaptics with no results. They are enabled in the BIOS (ver. 1.42). The device manager recognises the hardware as "This device is working properly." Please help.

The background light for the keyboard doesn`t work. Is there a possibility to check wether the lamp is broken or the driver is missing or what else the problem could be?When I press Fn+space, the sight for the light appears, but there is no light. I hope someone has a helpful comment for me Yours, Carolin

The touchpad and trackpoint work up until the point where I login. They work on the login page, but not after. I am running Windows 7. When I go to the mouse settings, they are both disabled, but it is grayed out and won't let me enable them. When I click fn+f8, nothing happens. This problem has been occurring for about a week now...the pen still works as a mouse however, and that is what I have been using

Hello, I have a ThinkPad Yoga S1. The keyboard sometimes becomes unresponsive, while the external keyboard still works fine. The keyboard revives after going to sleep mode. I have had this issue since the beginning (2 month ago). The fact that it still works fine with the external keyboard incriminates the driver. But all drivers are up to date. (I made all the updates I could find.) And in the device manager, the status reads  This device is working properly . Anyone else having the same issue, ... and its solution? Thanks,JC

Hi Jc-createlli,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with keyboard not working when system is on sleep mode on your ThinkPad Yoga S1.

Go to device manager and under keyboard adapter uninstall all the adapter and restart the system and check.

Run ThinkVantage system update utility and update all the drivers and application from that.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

I am just wondering if anyone is experiencing a similar phenomenon with the backspace button (or any other), otherwise I have a faulty keyboard...I received my TPY on the 11th of March and have been using it lightly for about a week. First I thought it is something I need to get used to but over time it became clear that there is no way this could be normal on a 1200 laptop, especially from a product line legendary about its keyboard quality. Basically the problem is that out-of-the-box from the beginning the backspace felt a bit "wobbly" and "soft", not really having a definite pressure point especially around the edges. When it's being hit bang on in the upper middle segment and with considerable force (for normal typing) it clicks and works fine, but as soon as you catch the lower segment or anywhere around the edges, it does not give you a tactile feedback and does not respond - despite clicking - giving you the impression that it has "accepted" the command but actually not deleting.Other similar sized keys on the keyboard such as the shift, tab, capslock, enter or even the space depress evenly instead of sort of bending to the side even if they were hit around the edges, and also have a very definite feedback, once they have reached clicking point it's guaranteed that they execute the command/caracter - something I can not say for the backspace. In an everyday scenario especially when typing longer texts or passwords etc it is not realistic to be expected to ... At certain relatively slow speeds the scrolling jumps huge leaps regularly (probably after evey page or so). It's very bad with Chrome and Windows explorer, not so bad but noticeable in Thunderbird. I have set the scrolling to 1 line. My Synaptics drivers are the newest 10/04/2015. Also the treshold to start scrolling with middle button and trackpoint is very high - can't be that hard to make it smooth, so you could scroll very slowly? Please fix this soon... it's impossible to live with.

As the title says, my trackpoint, keyboard backlight and touchpad have stopped working. The problem happened a few weeks after I updated from windows 8.1 to windows 10. I have tried updating ultranav drivers, resetting windows 10 (which was a bit of a pain given that I will now have to reinstall all my software) and then reverting to windows 8.1 after none of the above worked. Fortunately my touchscreen and mouse support is still ok, but I can't work in low light conditions without my keyboard light. My dad got a Thinkpad Yoga 14 about a month ago and he usually uses his laptop at a 90 degree angle in bed. So when he is on his side, the laptop is on it's side as well. When he does that with the Thinkpad Yoga, the touchpad and the keyboard are disabled and he cannot use the laptop like he wants to. I think because it's a setting to not accidentally touch the keyboard or mouse when using it in tablet mode.I cannot find any setting on how to stop Windows from disabling the touchpad and keyboard on rotate. I've turned off auto-rotate but can't see anything else. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Answer:S531 Backlit keyboard and trackpoint issue

Hi Delvar, It's probably hardware related. If your laptop is under warranty, I would suggest to contact the support centre.Otherwise it's probably just a connector not seating properly on the keyboard. You could remove the keyboard, unplug it and replug it to check.Refer to the Hardware Maintenance Manual there: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/s531_hmm_en_0c11116_02.pdf Vince.

Hello - I had the same problem a few weeks after upgrading from windows 7 pro 64 bits to windows 10 pro 64 bits on my t420s. I tired to replace the hardware without sucess with a new palmrest assembly. Is there any way to completely disable the touchpad and trackpoint on the X1 Carbon without going into bios? I am able to disable touchpad OR trackpoint by going into mouse properties in control panel but it won't let me do both.  I would like to turn it back on relatively easily if possible. I am trying to do this on a work computer and I have no administrative rights and I am using Windows 7 Professional. Can this be done or did Lenovo completely overlook such a simple feature?

Answer:Completely Disable Touchpad & Trackpoint on X1 Carbon

you can only do this through the BIOS menu. I guess, the reason it is not implemented in a software setting, is due to the fact that not many people in the enterprise environment requested this feature. Is there a specific reason why disabling the trackpad and leaving the trackpoint on won't work in your situation?

I cannot figure out, how to enable the touchpad. I do not think it is broken or something, because the trackpoint and all buttons and also two finger swipe for scrolling work fine. I just cannot move the mouse cursor with the touchpad.

I the driver setting screen the touchpad and all its options are greyed out, too (see screenshot).

Does anyone have any idea, what I may be doing wrong?

Answer:Thinkpad Yoga 13 Touchpad is disabled - Scrolling & Gestures work

Has anyone ever made headway on this issue? I'm having the same problem. Scrolling and gestures are recognized, but moving the cursor and tap-to-click are nonfunctional. It's essentially stuck permanently in trackpoint-only mode, and the option to switch back has literally dissapeared. It started intermittently (would sometimes "fix itself" on restarting) but now the problem appears permanent and updating drivers does not solve the issue.

I have a ThinkPad Yoga 14, which has a keyboard backlight that can be turned on and off by pressing Fn+Space. Recently I've found that if I turn it off, it sometimes stays on. In this state it will flicker when the computer is tapped or bumped, or just moved around, and when placed at certain angles it will stay off. If I turn it on, it stays on consistently ? it's only when it's set to off that it doesn't work right. It seems like there must be a loose connection in there or something. Does this sound like something that can be easily fixed?

When i check the exhaust air coming out of the fans outside, its not so hot.my pc completely hangs even without any heavy applications running and i have to restart with the reset switch.what the problem could be?hangs occur with no mouse movement, even capslock/numlock lights not going on/off!Also there's an 8 pin ATX 12 v slot in my motherboard but my psu gives only a 4 pin connector. i was advised to put the connector to the right side (the right half of the 8 pin slot) (the side closest to the processor). Is that creating any problem? All my drivers are up to date and my system is virus free. I also clean my registry quite often.I have internet through LAN and it's my observation that the hangs tend to occur if my internet connection is on.I made the BIOS settings default but still it didn't help! When i made the settings to "error-safe default", the system hanged while booting! It's really frustrating! A problem with the hardware would be very very dissapointing especially since the pc in new! Please help!

Answer:System completely hangs/freezes; mouse and keyboard also doesn't work!

I am not an expert but I notice you say this is a new PC but the PSU connector is not the same as the block on the mainboard. If you bought the complete system as new I would expect the PSU and the mobo to be totally compatible. If this is the case I would suggest you contact the supplier.

So I had my Yoga 3 (11.6") in for replacement of the touchpad once and now it is acting up again.  The Elan touchpad is crap.  I cannot use this notebook without a mouse anymore because I cannot use the right click function.  Now I have to carry a mouse with me all the time... what a PITA. I've already install the latest driver on the support website (for Windows 10 x64 and even under Windows 8.1 had the same problem)  I even installed the Yoga 700 driver (basically updated Yoga 3 11inch) Anyone else have a solution? or is it time to have Lenovo repair it again.. (I'm thinking this is a hardware and software problem) Now I have to be without a notebook for another 2-3 weeks.... Never had a problem with HP, ASUS touchpads before, should have gotten a HP Spectre or Macbook Air - so disappointed... Also two finger click doesn't work either when it is enabled in the software, same result.  Tried adusting sensitivity low - high still nothing helps. (Did I get a LEMON?) (I've installed every BIOS and driver update on the support website) I check every week for a fix of the touchpad - nothing.

Try http://www.laptoprepair101.com for a good desciption on how to disassemble a laptop.Be VERY careful when disassembling. They are fragile and the connections are short. The ribbon cable under the keyboard might be the problem although the USB connections are integrated on the motherboard and with your earlier problems might point to that as the cause.

hi ! when i press a letter on the keyboard the touchpad stops working. i tried with palmcheck option but the problem remains. i have ELAN software and everything seems updated (according to windows update and lenovo softwares). in touchpad settings i found the option about the mouse block during digitation, but it doesn'twork. can someone help me?

Answer:z 50 75 pressing keyboard touchpad doesn't work

I have the same problem with a Y50-70 and ELAN Touchpad/driver too. It has been sold to me as a gaming Laptop and now one major functionality you need for gaming doesn't work - what a mess. I spend hours in the Internet reading hundreds of articles from people with the same issue.1. Solution: Disable the Palmcheck function but unfortunately the ELAN SW doesn' provide this option.2. Solution: Change the Touchpad sensibility (some say max, some min) - neither works with the ELAN driver.3. Solution: Go into the Registry (regedit) and change parameter (DisableWhenType_Enable and DisableWhenType_DelayTime_Move in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elantech\SmartPad\), to 0 with Regedit. Didn't work for me too. 4. Solution: Uninstall the ELAN driver qnd let Windows install a generic PS2 one during re-boot. This finally did it for me, however you are losing all the additional functionality of your Touchpad and can onlwy move the cursor plus right/left click. No zoom; no scroll, no multiple finger functionality anymore. So be it, I bought the Laptop for Gaming. I'm pretty disappointed about this but hope there will be better driver coming out soon.

Answer:Thinkpad yoga 14 mouse doesn"t work after sleep

Hi

I have a Thinkpad Yoga 14 (20DM008UUS) and I don't have that problems. Can you please post your full model number?
Maybe uninstalling the mouse driver (according to which brand your model has) and installing it again can help.

Hi I purchased this laptop around 4 months ago and really enjoy using it. the touchpad has always been a little unresponsive, particularly on the two finger scroll but I have been patient with it. today the cursor froze completely.  when turn on the laptop or restart the cursor appears on the screen. when I try to move the cursor using the touch pad it does not respond. when i touch the screen, the cursor disappears and never returns no matter what I do. I can navigate using the touch screen but my natural instinct is to use the touchpad so I waste lots of time instinctively going to the touchpad and then having to redo the action on the touch screen.  I updated the Synaptics touchpad driver (tip from a related string on the forum) ... sp71089.exe ... but it made no difference. Please helpThanksFrankkk

I'm not very good with computers so this may be a common issue that I don't kow how to fix, but I have had my Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13 for almost 2 years now and its been working completely fine until 2 nights ago. I left it on my desk with the charger plugged in (i didnt know that was bad until yesterday), like I always do, and the next morning, it was completely unresponsive. There were no lights, sounds, or anything, and it wouldn't turn on. It;s as if it was completely dead, like the battery was taken out. I don't know what I should do, and I thought about checking the battery, but due to circumstances I can't get the right screwdriver to open the lid. Please help. Another thing I would like to note is that when it left it on my desk, it had about half a bar of battery, so it's not out of power. Although my charger is a little broken, it still worked the last time I checked, so I don't believe that's the problem either. Someone had suggested that the battery was "full". Some other details, though may not be of concern, but I thought I should mention. My memory, or RAM, im not sure, but it was almost full. The bar in my file explorer was red, and it noted that I should clean out my files because it did not have enough memory. If you have any ideas on how to fix this, please tell me. Thank you.

Answer:Yoga 13 is completely unresponsive

I had the same problem last night with my Yoga 2 11. It was charging, made a loud beep, turned off, and now is completely unresponsive.

Hello people! Last time I went  to US, I've bought this machine from Amazon: Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga Signature Edition - 12.5" 2-in-1 Touchscreen Notebook PC - Intel i5 Haswell / 8GB RAM / 128GB SSD / WiFi / Webcam / Windows 8.1 - Black I love it! At least until two weeks ago... after a windows/lenovo update things starts to be really hard. My keyboard and mousepad simple don't work anymore, totally unresponsive. If I hit "del" to access the bios, the keyboard does work, after that, when windows is loading and fully loaded, I've got only the "tablet" mode.  The only thing that works correctly is the touchscreen, as it only recognize itself as a tablet, not as a ultrabook. The screen also rotates automatacly when windows is fully loaded, so I have to use the tent mode with an external usb keyboard/mouse or type in the screen keyboard... I leave in Brazil, got in contact with lenovo suport team here, after a lot of procedures, that didn't solve the problem, they told me to get in contact with lenovo US and ask for an original dvd recovery. Is there anyone with a different approach to solve this problem?

Hello, The left button on my Synaptics Touchpad doesn't work when I'm pressing a key on the keyboard. Initially, I thought it was a PalmCheck problem, but that feature was already disabled. The right click works fine and so does the touchpad itself. The only problem is the left button. I tried reinstalling an updated driver, but that didn't fix the problem. I tried the generic Synaptics driver and both the HP Windows 8 and 8.1 versions. They all worked fine for all touchpad functions except for the left button which still doesn't work when I'm pressing a keyboard key. I tried using a wireless mouse and the left click worked fine so the problem is only with the touchpad.

Same thing for me too, and I really want it fixed. I'm using an HP Pavillion Windows 8.1 Laptop, and using the same TouchPad as you. Kudos for you!

Only option is to deinstall the writeit app. Afterwards the onscreen keyboard pops up normally.Do you have a tip.Ps: i dont want to instal windows 10Thx and have a nice day

Hello, I've got a problem with my Integrated Camera drivers/ Audio drivers. I believe the driver should be for the integrated camera, as microphone is on the same board. Anyway, after switching to Windows 10, my microphone stopped working. I've downloaded the driver from the website but the installation was stopped by either message "This app doesn't work on Windows10" or "Device not found" (I assume the microphone as the camera works.) When I go to skype settings and choose the microphone, the field is stated as "NONE" . Could someone give me information about what is going on, as it is really annoying? Thanks

Hi

I assume that you checked if the tablet has been connected properly to the keyboard docking.

Did you try to disconnect and connect the docking again?
Note: there is a release latch on the left which you have to move and hold in order to remove the tablet.

Maybe there is some connection problem.

When I open up my computer and try to login, both the keyboard and touchpad no longer works.  The only thing I can do is touch the screen and hope the on-screen keyboard pops up.  but I can't use the actual physical keyboard or touchpad.  They seem disabled. I don't even see the mouse pointer arrow or icon on the login screen at all  when I try to move my hand around the touchpad now it takes me a couple tries to login abd only after I  login, the keyboard & touchpad work again Im using HP Spectre x360. I think this started happening after the last major auto update  (Also now the computer doesn't go to sleep when I close the lid,  and after a while the computer gave an alert message that the battery was low since it never went to sleep.  After this last update, the low battery alert message is now pink instead of blue )

After switching to tablet mode in Windows 10, the touchpad and trackpoint are both disabled. I tried disabling and re-enabling it in the BIOS, no effect. Tried updating to the latest ELAN driver, no luck... in fact, there's no option for enabling / disabling the touchpad in the dialog box, and the ELAN dialog box is just a big blank. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling all Lenovo drivers; no luck. I saw some suggestions that I should disable some sort of Intel sensors in the BIOS, but I couldn't find those settings.  Suggestions?

I have a Thinkpad T440S and have a problem that many have reported. The trackpoint and touchpad initially work upon bootup but then stop working after a few minutes.I believe I've tried everything (uninstall/reinstall drivers, replace keyboard, replace hard drive and do a complete reinstall of all software, update everything, etc etc etc). Nothing works and the only reason I can still use my computer is that a wireless mouse will work. It's time to get a new computer. I've bought Thinkpads for more than a decade but I still see this problem being reported for the T470 so Lenovo can't or won't bother to fix this. Any suggestions for a different brand and model? I do like the trackpoint so does that mean Dell is my only alternative?

Got a nasty surprise today - unlike the other major manufacturers, who offer one year free tech support, Lenovo does not. $179 for a contract or $89 to cover a single incident. Thanks, guys. :-/ Here's my problem. G780, bought last October. Upgraded from Win7 Home Premium to Win8 Pro.A few days ago, the built-in keyboard stopped working. It works in the BIOS, but when you boot into Windows, Windows doesn't recognize it. There is a PS/2 keyboard driver and a HID Keyboard Device that show up in the Win8 Device Manager. I'm assuming those are the drivers for the built-in keyboard. If I plug in a USB keyboard, it shows up in the Device Manager as an additional HID Keyboard Device. Through trial and error, I discovered that the keyboard still works fine when the Elan touchpad driver is not installed. The problem with THAT: I can't disable the touchpad unless the driver is installed, and if the touchpad isn't disabled, it'll screw me up because I accidentally brush my hand up against the touchpad while typing. I've also noticed that sometimes, the touchpad icon in the system tray shows up with a CAUTION icon overlaid on top of it (you know, the little yellow triangle with the exclamation point). I can't figure out why, and I can't figure out what changed on my computer that caused the keyboard to stop working properly. I've tried uninstalling the Elan touchpad driver, downloading the latest driver from the G780 support web page, and reinstalling it. No... Read more

Answer:G780 keyboard doesn't work, but ONLY when Elan Touchpad driver is installed.

hi stevesobol,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Are you also able to type your password on the login screen but after that the keyboard gets disabled? If this is the case, check this article as it's similar to the keyboard issue.

As for the Keyboard not working when the ELAN touchpad driver is not installed, this is surprising as I've never heard this issue happen before. Are you not able to disabled the touchpad via Fn+F6 even if the driver is not installed?

I've owned ThinkPad laptops for the past 20 years.  My most recent purchase was a ThinkPad X1 Yoga running Windows 10.  My prior version was a ThinkPad Edge 520 with Windows 7. What I've noticed is that the "sensitivity" option is no longer available for the TrackPoint mouse.  I've attached a screenshot of the old Ultranav utility which allowed for the sensitivity to be adjusted from Light to Heavy touch.  On the new version, there is only the option to adjust the speed from Slow to Fast (which was also available on the prior version). I have no idea what the sensitivity is set by default, but it's definitely not a Light touch.  This is annoying especially if you have to scroll through log pages (web page or documents).  This is a real annoyance because it is so much more diffcult to use the TrackPoint, so much so, I'm debating whether to buy a mouse, which I haven't used in over 20 years. Anyway we could get UltraNav to add that functionality in soon???

Hello,

I have just received my new X240 Laptop which has Windows 8 OS installed.
For some reason, the TrackPoint is disabled and I can't enable it to make it work.

I checked even the BIOS setting and found that it's enabled just fine.
The touchpad works and I have the latest driver of UltraNav 18.0.7.40 but the TrackPoint doesn't work.

I also tried to go to a previous driver of UltraNav but no luck.

Do you have any idea how I can enable the TrackPoint? under the control Panel it seems Disabled.

Answer:New X240 touchpad works but TrackPoint doesn't

Hello, I just really resolved "Famous" issue with Lenovo X240 Trackpoint and wanted to share my experience. In December 2014 I've bought Lenovo X240 and for some time used it with mouse only. Recently I took it the trip and recognized that TrackPoint is not working at all. I had X60s before and TrackPoint was always very userful, so I was very disappointed from new X240. Yes, I've checked it' was enabled in BIOS. Yes, I've tested all available drivers from Lenovo and Synaptics. I even bought new keyboard and replaced it - no result. Finally I decided to check contacts on the way from main board to TrackPoint. Bingo, I found defective soldering and what is pity - both brand new keyboards have the same defect! Please refer to attached photos. Shame on Lenovo, because Trackpoint is solid part of ThinkPad brand for sure. To fix it you need to disassemble laptop in the way that's required to change keyboard. You also need special low power soldering iron with sharp thin adapter, better binocular lens and hard hand like surgeon Smiley Happy Just re-solder contacts from flat cable that goes to main board to designated contacts at keyboard assembly. - I've marked exact place by red figures on attached photos.. To be 200% sure that you identified proper contacts to resolder, take something sharp and touch these contacts that look not well-made - they will move

I just updated the intel graphics drivers to the latest (4080) version recommended by the intel helper utility. Now, half of the keys on the keyboard don't work. Reverting to the version bundled on the lenovo support site fixes the issue. Why does the graphics driver affect the keyboard, and how can I fix this so I can get on the latest drivers? The older drivers have severe problems with high CPU usage: https://communities.intel.com/thread/57299https://communities.intel.com/message/257256 That's keeping my fan spinning all the time. I want to upgrade to fix these issues, but the upgrade then blows up the keyboard. Hi. I really hope you can help me! I have a brand new Yoga Pro 3 11" computer. It's less than 2 weeks old. I downloaded windows 10 and about three days later I started having several issues. My biggest concern is the fact that the touchscreen is completely unresponsive! The actual screen is unbroken and if I touch the windows area of the screen it opens but other than that there is no response at all to me touching the screen. In the "about" area of the computer it says there is no pen or touch capability. I'm at a loss and would appreciate help here.

Trackpoint on Yoga 12 is working at Windows 10 login screen, but immediately upon logging in to Win 10, the mouse pointer disappears (when using only built-in trackpoint/touchpad). The 'additional mouse settings' reveal the Thinkpad tab and the settings for trackpoint/trackpad, but they are greyed out and not active. Adding a USB mouse brings back the mouse pointer and then the pointer responds to the external device normally. Remove the USB device, and the mouse pointer is unresponsive to trackpoint input. I downloaded and installed most recent synaptics trackpoint driver from Lenovo. Now running driver v. 19.3.4.90. How can I re-enable the trackpoint?Windows is up to date.

Answer:Solved: Yoga 12 trackpoint & touchpad become disabled on windows 10 login

I solved this issue by re-installing the latest Lenovo driver, but AFTER I uninstalled the existing driver. I had previously installed the same latest driver without uninstalling the existing driver, and that did not resolve the problem. Apparently installing the new driver only works if the prior driver is first uninstalled.

Hello. Last week a got a brand new ThinkPad E460 factory sealed for work. And it've had troubles with it out of the box, I have a ThinkPad T450s private and have never experienced anything like this on my private laptop. So of the bath to tends to freeze at Lenovo logo in BIOS boot screen. And I have to press a bunch of keys for it to continue. I think I might have fixed this issue by disableing secure boot and anti-theaft. It didn't always happen, but it happend every morning at work. I disabled these features now so I can't confirm or deny if that problem is competely ficked. I have of coruse updated the BIOS and all drivers. My second issue is that EVERY time, not only when I restart but also if I sign out of my account and back in again is that my TouchPad refuse to work if I don't click a key (any key) on the lenovo keyboard in addition to this left arrow key is in a loop. This is really annoying as I use this with a dock at my workplace. If I move the coursor to a textfield with my external mouse or the Trackpoint (that works fine regardless if I click on the keyboard or not) I will see the corusing being moved to the left contantly untill I click a key at the keyboard. What is going on? These issues seems really strange to me and not something you'd epxect.

Answer:ThinkPad E460 - TouchPad Will not work untill lenovo keyboard is pressed and arrow left is in a loop

I have not had the POST freeze problem, although I did have a bug with Yubikey, I had to push the Yubikey button twice to input the second part of my long VeraCrypt password, this was solved with a BIOS update.. Also my right speaker sounds broken on higher volumes, and OSD brightness bar is stuck on screen after waking up from S3 suspend, but goes away if I adjust the brightness with the keys on the keyboard. I do also have the TouchPad lockup problem! I have noticed the same, random lockups of the TouchPad. The TrackPoint works but the TouchPad locks up. It is restored by pushing a keyboard key or the TrackPoint mouse keys, or just leaving the TouchPad alone for a while (5-10 seconds). I got this machine with Windows 10 pre-installed but decided to go back to Windows 7 since Windows 10 has been nothing but a big PITA. I didn't notice this problem on Windows 10, but I have plenty of other Windows 10 specific problems. After installing all the latest drivers available for E460 (latest available from the site at the time, September 2016) this problem popped up. Current driver: 8.216.1616.135 I just checked System Update and noticed an update for the ALPS ThinkPad UltraNav Driver, so I'll update and check back (if I remember). New driver: 8.216.1616.151[Problem fixes]- Fixed an issue related to TouchPad Cursor no response in a short time after resume from S3 by lid close Maybe this have or will fix your TouchPad problem too.

Hi there, i will probably buy the x1carbon in the next days, i only have 2 questions: 1. I really don't care about the touchscreen but i heard great things about the x1 carbon touch touchpad, does the x1 carbon have the same touchpad as the newer one? 2. Is the backlit keyboard included in every model and with every configuration ? Thanks in advanceBen

Answer:x1 touchpad and backlit keyboard

Hi, BenCy

Welcome to the forums!

In regard to your questions:

1) Yes, the touch version does have the same TouchPad as the standard X1 Carbon, and, in my opinion, it's even better!

2) As far as I'm aware, the backlit keyboard is standard on all models of the X1 Carbon, touch included. This can be seen on the fact sheet here.

Hope it helps,
Adam

I was wondering whether any of you might know and suggest an online reseller (official or otherwise), where I could get hold of a replacement keyboard. Now, I suppose backlit keyboard versions of newer Yoga laptops will not work I guess, will they? From what I have read Yoga 13 Silver does not have the slot required for backlit, but aside that, will the keyboard function and will it fit (dimension-wise)? If so, what is the voltage and current required? Would soldering a small battery to the backlit cable be a good idea (I accept the fact that I wouldn't be able to regulate it)? Thank you in advance!ck

I have a 13 inch Yoga 1, and I was wondering if I could buy the backlit keyboard from the Yoga 2 and install it?  Does the Yoga 1 have all the necessary cables, or is there an additional power cable for the backlight?  Are the power requirements similiar enough between the two keyboard models? Thanks!

Answer:Install Yoga 2 Backlit Keyboard on Yoga 1?

Anyone know the answer to this?  Perhaps somebody who's opened their Yoga 2 can describe the keyboard?

Hello I checked the BIOS Settings under Mouse ... there is nothing (no enable/disable Touchpad) When I use the Vantage test ist says Trackpoint Settings and TouchPad Settings, but everything is grey. I had some problems with the keyboard too (was not always working) The Hardware Tests says everything is ok, also the drivers are ok (Windows hardware test ok)  What to do?

So I have the updated Window 10 Home and Lenovo Settings Ver. 3.169.0.0. It doesn't allow me to adjust Trackpoint or Touchpad speed when I go to the tab "Input". Both speeds are kept lowest and I cannot scroll the bars at all. What I can do is go to Synaptics Control Panel to adjust the speeds. However every time I open the laptop again after Sleep or Reboot, the speeds go back to lowest again. Please help me solve this issue. Thanks!

Current model specs do not offer a backlit keyboard. However, the keyboard is same size/dimensions as other models that have the backlit keyboard. Does the Yoga have power feed for the backlit cable?  Is it a single cable (power and data) or the usual two cable type (one for power, one for data)? I can find replacement backlit boards, but don't want to spend the money if I can't get it to work. Compatible models with backlit KB:Ideapad Y series models Y400 & Y480Ideapad Z series models Z400 & Z500

Hi!  I just purchased a Yoga 13 the other day.  It's really cool, but there is this thing that really bugs me:  Every once in a while, the touchpad will render itself unresponsive for about half a second.  When the touchpad will become unresponsive is predictable:  I just need to move my finger up and down the trackpad and every 5 seconds or so, the touchpad will be unresponsive for about half a second.  This is annoying because it doesn't require 5 seconds of full use to become unresponsive, but it might be unresponsive when i first try to move the cursor requiring me to use the touchpad for a second time to move the cursor as desired. Has anyone experienced this?  Are some steps I can follow to troubleshoot this?  Could it be fault hardware and should I return it for a new one? Thanks!

Answer:Yoga 13 Touchpad periodically unresponsive

Same thing is happening to me, really freaking annoying. I downloaded the new driver for it as well but it still does that same thing. someone please help!

My trackpoint/pad keeps going out intermittantly, it works till it sleeps, then it doesn't work anymore and the mouse pointer dissapears. rebooting or putting it to sleep and back sometimes fixes the issue. sometimes it takes several cycles of reboots and sleeps over days before it comes back.  I've gone through tones of drivers and none fix it. replaced the trackpad with no success. running windows 10 home x64. any ideas?

Hi
Welcome to the forums.

I have a Thinkpad Yoga 14 (20DM008UUS) with Windows 10 (64bits)  version 1511 and I'm not having issues with the Thinkpad/Trackpad when I hibernate or sleep the machine.

Here it is my driver version just in case:

Check out which version do you have installed.
Maybe it can also be good to upddate some other drivers like chipset and power management just in case.

Hi, I have a ThinkPad Yoga 12 2nd gen with these specs: -Processor: Intel core i5-5300U-Ram: 8GB-Hard Drive: Samsung 850 Pro 512GB SSD (installed by myself) and SanDisk 16GB PCIe M.2-Screen: Full HD 10 point multi-touch with Wacom digitizer-BIOS: JEET78WW (1.27) The trackpad and trackpoint on this laptop has stopped working the second time and with that, the CPU fan has halted as well, with the backlit function of the keyboard non-working as well. The fan is really important because my heavy-duty use of this machine makes it really hot real quick. My laptop is pretty much useless without it and want a solution for it. I did try to update my BIOS for this because on some forums, this was an issue fixed by updating their BIOS. The system does not recognize the Synaptics trackpad and trackpoint (yes the TRACKPOINT is not working as well) and I have tried downloading the drivers of the trackpad, but to no luck the system did not recognize the trackpad. It seems as if there is a faulty connection physically, but I could not figure it out. The first time it happened, I sent it back for an in Depot Service, but this time around, I am out of warranty and when I asked a ThinkPad Certified Technician, he recommended me to simply buy a new machine rather than getting it serviced because it would cost me more than half as much of the original price of my laptop. I really like this laptop and don't want to change it, but if I have to, the 8th generation Intel pro... Hi everyone, I got my T440s in Dec 2013.  The touchpad and trackpoint worked then, but after a couple months the touchpad would work for a few minutes and then just stop responding.  After a while longer the trackpoint completely stopped working as well.  Now neither of them have worked for months - I've been using an external mouse.   I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers but that didn't help.  When I open Device Manager and click "Show hidden devices", the ThinkPad UltraNav Pointing Device shows up with a yellow triangle "!" icon.  Does anybody know how to fix this? Thank you!

Answer:T440s Touchpad & Trackpoint don't work

Hi Snowmc,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with touchpad on ThinkPad T440s.

To proceed with troubleshooting steps please boot the system to safe mode and uninstall the UltrNav driver from control panel ? program & feature option and also from device manager.

Shutdown the system and remove the external mouse and then switch ON the system, after booting with normal mode it will install generic drivers. Please check if the generic driver is also giving the issue with touchpad.

If the issue still persists after performing above troubleshooting then please provide the MTM number of the system at the next reply.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Answer:T60 trackpoint and touchpad work random!

Hello,

Just to confirm, this occurs under both Xubuntu and Windows 7?

If so, I would say carefully disconnect and reconnect the touchpad/keyboard assembly to verify it is not a connection problem, and if the problem still continues, to replace it with a new assembly.

I've seen a couple of posts here about the touchpad becoming unresponsive. mine is doing the same thing, except it seems tied to a gesture that is triggered.I went through all the settings on mine, and turned a lot of stuff off, however mine is still becoming unresponsive every now and then, and I noticed when I added the touchpad icon to the icon bar, it was turning blue when becoming unresponsive. It also comes back after lifting my finger, and putting it back on the touchpad.  this looks to be tied also to 2 fingers being on the touchpad at the same time, which the way the yoga13 is built, is necessary for your thumb to be on the bottom 2 buttons for clicking. Is there a place that i can tweak/customize/disable the gesture that is getting triggered?

Answer:yoga touchpad unresponsive may be a gesture triggering

There seems to be a lot of confusion about the Yoga 2 13 (not Pro) and whether the keyboard is backlit.  On the Lenovo Shop site, there have been two questions about this and both times the Lenovo staff have said the keyboard is not backlit.  However, the User Guide on the Lenovo website for the Y213 includes instructions for turning on the backlight and the Y213 model being sold at Best Buy has a backlit keyboard.  I am only interested in this model with a 256 SSD and will have to purchase it directly from Lenovo but will not purchase it if, in fact, the keyboard is not backlit.  Can someone from Lenovo please provide some clarity on this?

Answer:Yoga 2 13 (not Pro) - Backlit keyboard or not?

Bumping this hoping someone with Lenovo will provide a definitive answer.  Again today, the Lenovo staff on the Shop website said the keyboard on the Yoga 2 13 (not Pro) does not have a backlight while a customer said it did.  I would really love a clear answer before purchase to avoid an unnecessary return.  Thanks!
