Portégé Z20T-C 13Q Does not recognize handwriting / with Stylus Pen

Question: Portégé Z20T-C 13Q Does not recognize handwriting / with Stylus Pen

Last April I bought a Port?g? Z20T-C 13Q (PT16AE-02J03LCE) and a Stylus Pen (PA5133U-1EUC), with the intention of starting to use this device (as in the advertising itself of the product is announced) Other uses, take notes and draw schemes.

Unfortunately, I saw from the beginning that the Stylus Pen did not work. I thought the reason was that neither the Wacom drivers nor the TruNote program were installed. There was no major problem, because I downloaded those files from the support page for my Port?g?. After installing them, my computer still does not recognize the pressure of my fingers, let alone the presence of the Stylus (maybe because I have chosen the wrong stylus).

Please: What should I do? How do I get to use my computer as it is initially advertised on the website? What Stylus do I need?

Curiously, on an Amazon website we recommend this Stylus Pen as Toshiba Portege Z20T Stylus Pen, and for that reason I bought it from the Toshiba dealer along with the computer.

Thank you for answering my questions.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

How can I enable inking (handwriting) input method?

Answer:Cannot use inking handwriting on Win 10 with Portege Z20t

I also have this problem after upgrading to Windows 10. handwriting entry panel has disappeared and there is not way to enter data in Tablet mode. The pen works elsewhere but the pen entry option is greyed out in the keyboard chooser.

Answer:Portege Z20t-b GPS no working

In the description of Portege Z20t-b-xxx the “Assisted GPS” is mentioned.

The assisted GPS is part of the 3G module… so it should work using the 3G connection too.

Did you test it?

I have a Z20t-C-15M. SN 5H071828H. Online specs says there's a battery inside the docking keyboard and a battery inside the tablet.
Battery indicators is saying Battery # 1 is not present whereas battery led indicator in the keyboard dock displays no light (nor white nor orange).
Battery indicators is saying battery # 2 present and led indicator is white on the tablet.
Is this a normal behavior or an issue ? Why can'I get the secondary battery ?

Or, what would anyone suggest (apart from not using a Portege Z20T)! :-)

I've got a z20t-B-107. Lovely machine, upgraded to win 10, all working fine - I had to download a new Wacom driver to get the 'left-click' to work with the pen.

I'm using it in tablet mode to digitise some data points on a map, and to sketch with the pen. However, when I rest my hand on the screen it 'activates' the touch screen and makes things go crazy. I really need to be able to temporarily switch off the touch digitiser and have only the Wacom digitiser running, and if I can toggle it on/off somehow that would be useful. Otherwise i need to use the pen in a very unnatural position to avoid touching the screen with my hand.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note which uses the Wacom type digitiser - it doesn't seem to suffer from this, as soon as it detects the pen near the screen it appear to switch off the touch part.

I would be grateful for any help - I've tried search engines but they only seem to give results about touch pads, and that's completely different...

Many thanks in advance

Answer:Portege Z20t - can I turn touch screen OFF?

I use a Z20t too (but with Win8.1) and have the same problem. I have decided to switch off the touch complete. It is not a good solution, but a good working with OneNote is only with switching off the touch functionality possible.
Maybe this is a possible solution for you.
In Win8.1 I switched off the driver in the device manager.

I found the following steps here:

1. Right-click and select "All Apps" at the lower right corner, then select Control Panel
2. Select Hardware and Sound
3. Select Device Manager
4. Select Human Interface Devices
5. From the list, look for the driver for the touch screen. This can be tricky since on my tablet they are all listed as "USB Input Device" and there are 3 of them. I found it by disabling and re-enabling one at a time until the touch screen stopped responding. You can also identify the touch screen by checking the Properties | Details and get the "Hardware Ids" then do a search online to see what the device is. In my case, the touch screen has the ID USB/VID_0EEF&PID_7302.
6. Once you know which is the touch screen, disable the driver and the touch screen should no longer work
Enable this device to make the touch screen work again.

I am interested to see if anyone else is experiencing this issue. Since upgrading Windows 10 to the latest Version 1511, Build 10586 released in November by Microsoft i am having strange issues with the Conexant HD Audio device.

The issue being when i am playing stereo music and i encounter a lower volume section of the music (i.e - strings etc) the sound switches from Stereo to Mono and when the volume of the track increases it again reverts to stereo. Sometimes it switched back and forth regularly which is irritating.

I have the latest DTS Studio Sound (1.2.41) for Windows 10 and the correct Conexant HD Audio driver from Toshiba ( and this is the exact same driver/software version i had prior to updating Windows 10 to the latest version so the issue has definately been caused by the update.

To get around the issue i have installed the generic High Defination Audio Device drivers from Microsoft and the issue no longer occurs but i obvisuly can no longer use DTS Studio Sound with these drivers.

I am hoping Toshiba will be releasing a new DTS Studio Sound and/or driver to correct this issue.

Thanks in advance

I?ve got a Z20t-B-10C with a 256 GB SSD Samsung MZNTE256HMHP, which is a SATA M.2 2280 module.

I assume, I could replace this one by any other SATA M.2 2280 module, like the new SanDisk X400 1 TB (also named SD8SB8U-1T00-1122 or SD8UB8U-1T00-1122, don?t know the difference yet).

Does anyone know, where I could also replace it by a PCIe M.2 2280 module (also called NVMe), like the Samsung SSD SM951-NVMe 512 GB M.2 (MZVPV512HDGL) or the Plextor M6e 512 GB M.2 (PX-G512M6E)? Do I have to look for the M.2 ?B? and/or ?M? key?

Answer:Portege Z20t SSD upgrade – SATA M.2 only?

I dont think the notebook supports PCIe, you should get a SATA drive to ensure compatibility.

I own a Portege Z20T B-10C which is a rather nice machine, but has one annoying flaw: The screen gets scratched by virtually any contact. For example, I can't use the "emergency pen" for touch input or to write on the screen as it causes scratches. Also, the screen has already collected a series of scratches shaping the outline of the touchpad, i.e. supposedly produced when closing the laptop. Hence, you can't really use the laptop the way it should be used and I fear that a few months from now the screen will be filled with scratches.

While I'm waiting for my notebook shop to decide whether this is a warranty case or not, I wonder if anyone of you owns this model and has come across the same problem?

Answer:Portege Z20T: Screen becomes scratched by virtually anything

I have exactly the same problem. I've only been using the machine since July and already it's quite damages. Basically the screen rubs against the dock and I have the imprint in the outline of the touchpad. I'm concerned that they will soon damaging the images captured by the camera since the outline of the touch pad is right over the lens.

Toshiba is so far unwilling to repair this and I've included the response from my account rep below. Frankly, I was shocked since this is such an expensive computer and the cause of the problem seems so obvious. I was also disappointed that they didn't consider this thread when evaluating my case since it is the first result when one Googles 'portege scratched screen'.
Hello Eric,

I sent your email with the pictures of your laptop screen scratches. They replied back saying that the scratches are not due to a manufacture defect and there have not been another reports of other Z20t touchscreens getting scratches like this on the screen, so there is nothing they can do to replace it. Our Customer Service Manager will usually just make the call to replace it, if the laptop is with the first 90 days, which is 2 ? months past the normal return policy. He was not able to get the approval to replace it.

I am glad that you were able to get this laptop back up and running. Please keep that Business Technical Support number handy for any future needs, which I hope that you do not ever have to use it in the future. Please give me ... Read more

Good morning, after using the Lenovo x61t for over 7 jears it is time to find a new one.

The z20t seems to be the only one which fits my needs:
* convertible
* track stick
* at least full HD display (and not a mirror one!)
* native(!) Ethernet

The only drawback is the little ssd (max. 256) and that is only HDMI 1,4, no 2.0 (CPU limitation) or Display Port to get [email protected]

Then I stumbled over a Z20t-B-10C-SE with a 500 GB SSD ! Is this real or a fake? It was listed yesterday with 16 GB RAM, today with only 8 GB RAM.

If I'm allowed to dream, I would add these ones to the z20T:
* the third mouse button to the trackstick for scrolling (this is something I use almost everytime))
* Perhaps putting 16 GB RAM to the notebook
* HDMI 2.0 or Displayport - this problem is solved itself via an upgrade to Skylake which provides HDMI 2.0
* Having PCe-Lanes (one would be enough) in the dock connector
The last one enables to have more keyboard variants:
* the one which is offered today
* one with a ExpressCard slot (additional card reader, more USB ports, TV cards, special internet connection cards, interface cards for data aquisition etc.)
* one with a ExpressCard slot & second SSD/HDD bay (e.g. for a "cheap & really big HDD")

Additional, a "small & tiny" one for people for which every gramm is important could be nice (no, I prefer the "standard" one which comes with the z20t a lot over the tiny ones which comes with many other tables)... Read more

Answer:Portege Z20t-B-10C-SE - hardware specification question

Your “dreams” sounds good

- The additional 3rd mouse button… well I never required such button on my touchpad… so for me such button would be useless…

- 16GB RAM… definitely big YES… but unfortunately this Portege Z20t-B-10C supports max 8GB RAM… this limitation appears due to the chipset/CPU

- Espress Card slot is could be a nice-to-have feature but I think this kind of interface is already more or less in decline…

I undocked the screen from the keyboard without issue (using the "eject hardware safely" icon), but when reattaching the screen, it does not recognize the keyboard. Physical connection is 100%, but no communication at all. Usually it dings and switches from tablet mode to PC mode. Not this time. Interestingly, it DOES know that the keyboard is being charged, but only "Battery 2" is present.

Any ideas before sending it to the dreaded "Depot"?

It doesn't matter if it's on the windows store, or just an app you can grab off google; I just want an app that has all the features of a standard diary app (password, design, date, signature, add pictures, etc), but that you can use a tablet with. Bonus points if you find something similar for Android. Triple bonus points if it's the same app and can sync.

Answer:Is there a Diary desktop app that uses stylus handwriting?

Bamboo Paper is a nice app. You can create multiple notebooks. It is optimized for Wacom stylus but works excellent as well with the Surface stylus. The downside: no password protection.YouNote is just as good but, again, no password protection.
I guess for everything more pro, OneNote is your go to app.

When I turn the display off, the touchscreen and digitizer are still enabled, so, if I touch the screen, the display comes back on. Any way to solve this?

Also, not sure if related, if I turn the screen off and leave it overnight, the battery drops by 25-30% in about 8 hours. Same thing happens when I leave the screen turned off for a short period of time, the battery just doesn't last. Not sure if its because the touchscreen and digitizer are still on.

P.S. Running on upgraded Windows 10 64bit.

ThinkPad Super Low Profile TrackPoint Cap Set, Part number:4XH0L55146. this is the cap fits to thinpad x1 yoga.

since having z20t for the last year and half. I still can not find any other 2-in-1 to be better. this comes from someone who had previously only used the most expensive thinkpad models and updating every 1-2 years.

however, the trackpoint cap drives me a bit crazy as I rely on it most time as a 10+ year thinkpad user. it is tiny, needs a lot of force to move, and after a while, the surface becomes smooth and easy to slip.

I did tons of search and bought quite a few replacement caps to try, none worked. and it bugs me that toshiba does not sell a replacement either. so one day when the cap wears out or damaged, I would need to buy a new keyboard dock at least.

finally I found one that works perfectly, from no other than thinkpad itself.

It fits perfect into the space, right size recess to connect to keyboard, just a bit higher than keyboard surface for easier usage. It is also low enough that it does not touch screen at all (far from it) when closed.

more importantly, as it is bigger and have many dimple on it. it is actually much much better user experience. I would say now it would give similar feeling as the best thinkpad trackpoint now. no slip, needs much less force to move around.

I have a Toshiba Portege Z20T-C. I purchased it 6 months ago. After 3 months it developed a white ghost spot on the screen (approx 1cm across) which I now understand to be a pressure mark.

I don't actually use the touch screen of the laptop so I was surprised about this.

I wondered if any other Z20T owners have had this problem. Since I don't use the touch screen I wondered if it was a common fault with this model.

I did send the laptop back to be looked at under Toshiba's repair and warranty, but was told it wasn't covered and it'd cost me ?528 to repair.

I paid this. It took 3 months to get the machine back and the new screen has a similar pressure mark, just on a different part of the screen. Plus I have a lot of nice scratches all over my (was as new) laptop.
I suspect the pressure mark was caused by the engineer whilst reassembling the machine and pressing on the screen.

The Toshiba repair company say I can send it back to be re-assessed. They won't guarantee to fix it under their 90 day warranty - only to assess it.

I certainly won't spend another ?528 and wait another 3 months.
So, I've had a very expensive laptop for 3 months that's now pretty useless.
I can't say I'm having the best experience as a Toshiba customer.

Does anyone have any advice?

We have bought a Portege Z20t-C-121 to test it as a replacement for some of our senior management. I re-built it with Windows 10 Enterprise and installed all the latest Drivers from the Toshiba Website. The Intel Wi-Fi Driver did not work correctly so I downloaded and installed it from the Intel website.

The only thing I can't get to function seems to be the auto screen rotation; when I un-dock the screen to use it as a tablet Windows detects this and switches to tablet mode but, however I turn the screen it remains in the same landscape orientation that it was in when it was docked.

OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise
OS Version: 10.0.10586 N/A Build 10586

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get this feature to work please?

i tried to install a toshiba Z20t-c-11g

OS: Windows 10 LTSB
Driver: complete

I tried to install the new BIOS from the drivers page on
That BIOS sadly does not work ...? Why?

Anyway... the problem i had and i wanted to have fixed is:

Bitlocker encrypted my whole drive.
it starts correctly and displays the keyboard.
GPO: Keyboard Slates (or something like that) is activated.
BUT: Touchscreen does not work. That means.. i can see the keyboard but it does not work.
thats why i wanted to update my bios but it says it is not working on my computer... well thats frustrating...
why offer the bios update when it does not work at all... or is it some sort of windows 7 only? cant imagine that tbh.

i guess the only problem is the bios but i could be wrong (z20t-b works on same settings for example)

Any help would be pretty nice. Thanks ..

on a Z20t-B-10C with one minor modification (upgraded to a 500GB Samsung SSD, dropped recovery partition, but not the EFI partition), I have the following issue:
When the BestCrpyt Pre-boot screen shows up, I cannot directly enter the passphrase, but have to 1) hit at least one key 2) wait for approx. 10 sec. 3) delete the entered key(s) and then 4) enter the passphrase.
Thought it may have to do with a delayed interaction between tablet and keyboard dock, but a USB keyboard directly connected to the tablet, not the dock, shows the same behaviour. Trying different things in the Bios (switching to UEFI legacy, etc.), with no effect. This phenomenon is, according to their support, not known to the BestCrypt people. Operation system is Windows 10 64bit, all drivers and bios are recent.
Has anybody else observed this behaviour? Or experience with other full disk encryption which are compatible with a UEFI bios?
Thank you in advance,
Kind regards,

When I'm in 'tablet' mode using handwriting to text recognition my Portege M200 regularly presents a message to say it couldn't save the voice recognition and I should switch off the microphone if I'm not using it. I often use it to take meeting notes so there is always background noise. I usually lose text when this message comes up. The message also comes up when I save.

Just tried Word and Notepad, you bring up the on screen keyboard and then click on the picture of a keyboard on the bottom right, where you choose what type of keyboard you want and choose the text input one, and scratch away. I admit I use a Surface Pro 3 with a pen.
OneNote will also work this way but may have other ways to do it.

I was wondering if you *have* to use the original stylus on a Portege M200 or if you can use any stylus. I read something about the included stylus having a magnetic tip, so I'm not sure wether the touchscreen on a tablet PC is basically the same as a touchscreen on let's say any PDA or a Nintendo DS.

I'm asking because I'm about to buy a second hand M200 but it doesn't include the original stylus. Thanks in advance!

Answer:Do I need original stylus on Portege M200?

Usually you should use the same, compatible part with your notebook.
Fact is that an Port?g? M200 stylus supports two different buttons;

_Pen button_ ? acts as the clicking of the tight touch pad control button.

_Eraser button_ ? You can use this button as an eraser when using the application software for graphic. The application software for texts enables you to select and delete characters with one-touch action.

So if you think you don?t need these two buttons then you can use another stylus.

I have Portege M200. The stylus stops working after a few minutes' use. WindowsXP event log shows system error against the driver. When I reboot it starts working again.

Any ideas?

Answer:Stylus stops working - Portege M200

Special Toshiba software is responsible for the usage of the tablet pen on the M200.
I your case it seems like a software malfunction. In my opinion you should try to remove this software from the OS and after rebooting try to install it again.
I think this procedure should solve this issue.

I have a Toshiba Portege z10t.

I am trying to use the stylus in Photoshop. I have 2 problems. Firstly - when i use the stylus the circle that indicates where the stylus is going to be used is below the point of the stylus. Not only is it causing incorrect actions, but i can't see it properly to guide it. Is there a way to re-calibrate? I have tried re-calibrating from the control panel.

Secondly, in Photoshop, I can use my finger to select items in the menus and tools, but not to draw or select anything on the page. I have the same problem with any other stylus I use (I want to use a finer tipped one, but would be happy to use the one with the laptop if it was calibrated correctly.)

Can anyone help me?

Question re Toshiba portege M780-106 touchscreen laptop:
We have a problem with the mouse cursor lagging behind the stylus position.

This gap increases dramatically as the velocity of the stylus movement increases.
As we are running a tracking task with the stylus this is problematic.

We are running the task in Windows 7 using python 2.6 with primarily pygame library functions.
Is there a way to disable the process that produces this discrepancy between stylus and mouse pointer?

Any help much appreciated!

Answer:Portege M780-106 - mouse cursor lagging behind the stylus position

Is the CPU running in performance mode? Perhaps there is a lag because eco mode is turned on, or the CPU speed has throttled to a low speed.

I have been battling with my stylus the past few months. When I use it, the cursor is only accurate to the tip, when I am in the corners (where the calibration takes place). The more central I get on the screen, the more off it is. We talk about half a centimeter, which doesn't seem a lot, but which can be a real pain, if you try to write or draw on the screen.
The tragic part is that it started AFTER I used the calibration tool for the first time. Had I known it makes things worse, I wouldn't have touched it.
My question is: Is there anyone out there with the same problem, or is this unique? If it is, I will have a talk with my dealership after I return home.

If it is not unique, how was this dealt with?

My Laptop is a Portege M700, with Windows Vista Business SP1. This issue has been consistent through all kinds of situations, hardware configurations and software contents, and the starting point was clearly the calibration.
I thank in advance anyone that can shed some light on this for me.

Answer:Re: Inaccurate cursor when using the stylus in tablet mode on Portege M700

Are you calibrating it with the stylus on an angle?

Try it with the stylus completely vertical.

I can't get the right-click buton on the barrel of the stylus to work with my new Portege M400 tablet PC. I've tried it both with the "Use stylus buton to right-click" option in the "Stylus settings" tab of the "Tablet and stylus settings" dialog checked and unchecked, but neither worked.

Is the stylus faulty, or worse still the computer? Or can someone suggest how to get it to work?

PS: "stylus" should be "nep" reversed in the option, tab and dialog names above, but the dumb profanity filter won't accept the word "nep" (reversed).

Do you have this problem since first day? Please be sure the pen is not in a very long distance from the display. Like you know if the distance is too big the pen will not work ?as usual?.

Yoga thinkpad 20cd. I have the original stylus that came with the lap top as well as an aftermarket LIfebook stylus. The screen doesn't register either stylus. When i go to the windows pen calibration the stylus works fine. The calibration consists of tapping targets with the stylus pen. It is very accurate. Soon as i close the calibration window the stylus doesn't interact with the screen at all. I assume I must have changed some setting by accident or it occurred with an update. Please help: i got my new Toshiba Portege R400 (PPR40E-00T018G3). I knew that some of R400 has 3g module, but i couldn't know if my has one or not because there was nothing on box or case that will indicate it has or not (except that on Toshiba Edge display 3g icon is always with some triangle below? i presumed that it was because it has no SIM card...), but when i was upgrading memory, i noticed that underneath a keyboard (where is one memory slot) is also a SIM card reader, so i presumed that my R400 is equipped with 3g module (why would they put SIM card reader without 3g module????).

I didn't see any device in device manager in windows, but i thought that when i put SIM card, it would install itself (i also didn't notice a bluetooth until i installed it later!), but when i put SIM card nothing happened - 3g indicator is still off, and i didn't get new devices in device manager. Of course, i installed all software that was on toshiba r400 drivers page: Wireless Mobile Broadband (Novatel), 3G RF Power Control Utility and MobiLink, but i got no indication that 3g module is found, and when i open Configfree, on dial-up/WWAN it states: not availible. Mobi Link states that there is no device. When i press fn+F8, i get only bluetooth and wifi icons, not 3g. OS is Vista Ultimate and Windows 7.

My questions are:

1. Is it possible that my R400 (PPR40E-00T018G3) does not have 3g module, even if it has SIM card reader?

2. For those R400 users, did you have some indicatio... Read more

>1. Is it possible that my R400 (PPR40E-00T018G3) does not have 3g module, even if it has SIM card reader?

This is correct.
Some R400 have been equipped with the 3G module and some don?t support such module.
Your R400 PPR40E-00T018G3 has not been equipped with the 3G module and therefore it cannot be recognized.

I have a Toshiba Portege M400 with Windows XP Tablet Edition. Now I have bought a new Disk with 160 GB. This disk can't be recognized within the textbased Installation -Phase of XP. Do I need a new driver?

Best regards

Karl Weber

Answer:Portege M400: Windows XP does not recognize the 160GB HDD

You have to install and to include the RAID driver on the Port?g? M400.
This is a little bit confused because the small Prot?g? M400 does not support 2 HDD but the RAID driver is needed.

Please check the Toshiba European page and download the RAID driver. During the XP installation the you will have to press the F6 button to include the driver from a external USB FDD drive.

After you have included the RAID driver don?t format the HDD because this will lead to driver losing.

Best regards

Just installed a P002608, 20GB hard drive in a Protege 3110ct, now the BIOS will not recogize the new hard drive.

Answer:Portege 3110ct: BIOS won't recognize new 20GB HDD

I think you will be not able to use such 20GB HDD on this oldie.
It seems there is a BIOS limitation and such large HDD will be generally not recognized by BIOS.

As far as I can remember the Portege 3110 (P311E) was delivered with a 6GB HDD!!!
The difference between the 20GB and 6GB HDD is huge!!!

In my opinion you should test other HDDs which support an smaller sizes

My brand new Z930-118, with windows 7 home 64bit, does not recognize external CD/DVD drive when I plug it in the USB port.

The CD/DVD device does not even show at all in the device manager.

The drive is a Samsun SE-S084 and works OK on another laptop.

I already checked for the 'upper_filter' 'lower_filter' with the regedit but the entries weren't there, so no help.

Answer:Portege Z930-118 does not recognize external USB CD/DVD drive

I?m not quite sure how to help you.

I found some informations about this ODD drive and it looks like it does not need an external power supply. Its USB bus powered so I assume it needs around 500mA power since this is the default value provided by one USB 2.0 port.

I don?t think that there is some missing software problem. This is an plug n? play device so you need to connect it to the USB port and the system should recognize it automatically.

From my point of few you try to connect the external ODD to two USB ports using a *Y* USB cable.
I think the drive needs more power as supplied by one USB port.

Recently i wanted to upgrade my old Portege 7220 notebook with one 256 mb Ram Stick by Kingston. According to their website it should work, but the machine doesnt recognize the memory at all. (just stays at using the 64 mb internal).

I cant upgrade the Bios either, because when i press F12 when starting the computer, it cannot read from the floppy drive in the docking station. Do i need an USB Floppy Drive for that? I tried with an usb stick but that doesnt work. Isnt there a possibility to do an update over windows? (Comp is running Windows 2000)

Thanks for your help, much apprechiated.

Only the TRAD version of BIOS exists for this Port?g?.
This means that you will be not able to update it from running Windows OS but you will need an external floppy disk drive to perform such update.

Regarding your memory issue;
Check this:

There you can find the compatible memory module. It?s a 144-Pin PC100 SODIMM.

Possibly you have used not fully compatible module or the module is faulty?

Is this an external memory (hardware) port problem or can I do something to fix this?

Hi guys,

I'm having a strange problem with the model PT321A-01K002 regarding the 3G Modem driver.
I've tried every available driver and Wireless Manager from the Australia and European sites that I can find and it just will not recognise the hardware.

To clarify, we are deploying a fairly clean Win 7 64 bit build and at the end the 3G modem is the only device not recognised, it is reported in device manager under 'Unknown Devices --> Software Download' ... Strange, but 'Software Download' is actually the name of the device.

Hardware ID is *USB VID_0BDB&PID_100E* which for all my reading seems to be the 3G modem. No matter what I do, even a fresh blank retail copy of Win7 64bit can I get the 3g drivers to recognise the hardware.

I'm assuming I am installing the drivers in the wrong order? I've tried several different combinations but cannot get it to work! We are purchasing more and more of these with the 3G component and I need to be able to deploy our SOE to it.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance! - Matt

For some reason auocad does not recognize the graphics card installed in the computer.
I suspect it because very little memory is allocated for the graphics card.

How can i change with memory allocated for the graphic card, or maybe, some one can show me where can i find a driver which autocad supports.

thank you very much!

Answer:Portege R700 - Autocad 2011 does not recognize graphic card

What Portege R700-xxx do you have exactly?
As far as I know the graphic memory cannot be assigned manually.
Everything is controlled by graphic card driver and you have no influence on this?

You can try to update the graphic card driver? maybe this would help.
The newest driver can be found on the Toshiba European driver page?
Otherwise you should check the driver from graphic chip manufacturer

Good luck

It sound that all works properly on your notebook and the OS recognises the drive properly. But only the Nero application makes some troubles.
Well, it's not easy to say why Nero cannot recognize the drive.
I would recommend to checking the Nero website.
There you will find many infos and additional help tools.
For example the infoTool can locate the malfunction.
You can also try to use the Nero Driver-CleanTool.exe and RegistryChecker.exe

However, this is a 3rd party applications and I think you should ask the Nero support for the help.

I need to know if there is a stylus I can use which looks and feels quite like a pen, I don't like the compressible rubbery feel of some stylus, they are not smooth enough.

Answer:Which stylus should I use with my Inspiron 15r touch laptop? Will a 'Wacom Bamboo Stylus Feel' work with it?

Hi Shaurya,Welcome to Dell community.
Yes you can use stylus pen with this system.
15z has 15.6" LED-Backlit LCD Capacitive Multi-touch screen, so you can use Targus Stylus with this system which Dell recommends. For further help you can click on the below mentioned link:
The Wacom Bamboo Stylus Feel is the newest stylus from Wacom that a user in that forum said works well. The site,  , says it's compatible with the Latitude 10. Technically, any of the non-battery (somehow powered wirelessly by the tablet) powered Wacom stylus should work.

This started happening after I upgraded to the pressure sensitivity enabled driver on my X201T with a multi touch layer. It's nice that I know have pressure sensitivty AND multi touch; however, my stylus seems to become uncalibrated each time I restart. Also, if I shut down the PC in tablet mode, and then power it on, the PC stops detecting my stylus as a stylus and just shows and functions as a normal regular pointer. I keep having to uninstall the touch screen driver and reinstall it every time this happens, in order to make things work again. Anyone else have this problem? Also, the Thinkpad update utility keeps saying there is an update to the multitouch driver, but everytime I update, the same effect as to the previous happens and the stylus stops working... I just download the driver from the Lenovo site and do the same procedure to fix this issue. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Answer:X201T stylus loosing calibration upon restart and stylus not detected if powered off in tablet mode?

I don't know if it will help with your problem, but I have been having problems with my X200 Tablet. I have an X200 Tablet and a few months ago Windows Update started to offer me a Wacom Touch Update. When I installed it, the pen and touch drivers stopped rotating properly. The pointers behaved as if the machine was  in primary landscape mode regardless of the display rotation. So I gave up on that update. However this week I replaced the hard drive with a new 256G SSD and did a complete reinstallation of Windows 7 (64 bit). After Windows and the Lenovo updaters had brought all the drivers and software up to date pen rotation misbehaved. I normally run the machine with "require password on wake from sleep or hibernation" and use the fingerprint scanner to unlock it. The symptoms were that the pen & touch worked fine and rotated properly when the machine booted, but after waking from Sleep or Hibernation and unlocking the machine, pen & touch behaved as if the machine was in primary landscape mode (i.e. the digitizer drivers were not respecting the display rotation settings). I looked through the forums and found a thread (X200 Tablet, Win7, Black screen freeze on sleep) that discussed problems after waking from sleep ( problems I didn't have), but the MS knowledgebase articles being pointed to suggested symptoms related to user logon. I installed the suggested Hotfix This solved the problem... (dont really need a list of bad styluses) Second, for thoes of you who have written on your yoga.  How do you deal with "palm rejection"  or resting your hand on the screen?  Wacom seemed to indicate there were ways around this problem. Thirdly,  One Note.  It seems like it will do the trick.  Anyone else use it or have somthing better that they really like? Thank you all in advance for any feedback.  I hope to be scribbling away soon.  With the lack of stores in my area I have to mail order everything.  So making a bad purchase takes a while to rectify. Cheers!

Answer:Handwriting with the Yoga 2 Pro

Stylus: I place a microfiber cloth on the screen/under my palm, to avoid palm detection (and to clean the screen as I write ). The ThinkPad has a digitizer, the ideapad version is touch capacitive. So, I would not get the above stylus. But in all honesty, I did not even google the aforementioned stylus. I use OneNote all the time. I am a medical student and type my notes with the occasional histological drawings and graphs. I cannot imagine anything to be better than OneNote. I live off OneNote. Frankly, it is the only thing that is keeping me away from Apple computers.

My wife is writing a book and has handwritten several hundred A4 sheets. The cost for professionally taking her text and typing it is really very expensive.I would like to know if there is a programme I can buy that will scan the handwriting and subsequently convert to a Word Document.I suspect she might have to "teach" the programme her style, as per PDAs.Any advice will be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

Answer:handwriting to text

Far more efficient is speech to text. The software for this is much more advanced than handwriting to text and, with only about 20 minutes training your computer, you can achieve better than 90% accuracy.Look up speech to text in Google for details of the software available. Dragon is claimed to be very good.If your wife gets good at this, she will have no need to do the writing stage, just speak direct to the computer.

I've just got a tablet from ebay with xp tablet edition 2005 on it. I've never owned a tablet before, so know very little about problem solving on one. I'm having, a problem with the pen input, specifically I can bring up the writing pad and use the pen on it, but when I hit insert, nothing happens. The writing pad clears but nothing appears in the text box.

I've tried a third party inking panel called Inker (from Atozed software) to check that the recognition engine is working (if there is such a thing), which it is. The only problem is that this third party tool is very laggy and doesn't integrate with windows as well.

lf anyone has some experience with tablets and can give me some tips, I would be so grateful. Even just some hints as to where I should look next.

Many thanks

Question: Handwriting font

On your site, I read this: To install the fonts you go into the font folder in the control panel and click 'file' - there you will see 'install new font'. Click it and in the box that opens navigate to where the fonts you want to install are. You can high-light all of them and click install

But when I go into the Control Panel, and select Fonts, there is not a folder, it just lists the fonts from A to Z. Lucinda used to have a nice handwriting font. But I cannot find it, except for a price. Anyway, how would I get the into the list of fonts listed in the Fonts on the Control Panel.

I read on here somewhere that Nero’s file Explorer solved their problem. I went to the website, and they want $80. No thank you.

Anyone have any open source or cheap handwriting recognition software that they like?
I don't use Office XP, so I can't use the one that is in there.

Is it possible to add a list of words to the tablet input panel (TIP) handwriting recognition dictionary? For example, is there a way to put the words from the dictionary that MS office uses (custom.dic) into the TIP dictionary?
I ask because I'm a student and the TIP doesn't recognize a lot of the specialized terms I use and I don't want to have to add them manually one at a time.

Answer:Add to handwriting dictionary?

Hello adoucette,

Welcome to Seven Forums.

You can add to the recognition. On the input panel, click on tools/personalize handwriting recognition. I haven't played with this yet, but I believe this is only for word or character recognition. Spelling, like the office dictionary does, would still be done by whatever program you paste the handwriting into.

Hope this helps.

Hi peoples

I was wondering if anyone out there could help me decipher handwriting on an old death certiificate? (I zipped it up for size)

I am researching the individual shown first on this document - Bridget Layden

I am having a hard time with two items on this scanned image
1. the first name of the father
2. the cause of death; the word to the left of "dropsy"

If i could figure out what the letters are on the cause of death, I think I could guess at the father's first name as the first letter appears to be the same.
It looks like the first letter is also in the cemetary, but I can't seem to Google-match that location.

Any takers out there?

Answer:help deciphering old handwriting

I think the name is Michael, and the cause of death is Myocaritis, infection and swelling of the heart.

I am aware of the tablet PC input panel (tabtip.exe) in windows 7 where I can write with the mouse or a pen resulting in my handwriting being converted to text. I am then able to insert this text into a word document etc. I was wondering if there was any way to directly implement this feature into Word or OneNote so I don?t have to use the separate tabtip.exe program? Ideally I want to write directly in Word or OneNote with a computer pen, have my writing instantly converted to text and have the spelling automatically corrected - similar to when you are typing. Is this possible? How would I go about doing this? If it is not possible in office are there any other programs that offer this feature?

I am having issues with the handwriting recognition with Windows XP/Office 2003. The problem is that the drawing pad application extension works fine, but "writing pad" and "write anywhere" do not. They are installed under the Language options.

When I use the language bar to select Drawing Pad it works fine and I can paste the result in a document. If however I select Writing Pad the drawing pad goes away but the Writing Pad never appears. Write Anywhere fails in a similar fashion.

On another computer configured the same, everything works fine.

I have tried various combinations of installing and removing the Language Bar and associated functions but nothing seems to get this working.

Can anybody help?

Hi everyone, I thought I'd post a question and see if I can get some help. I'm having problems with my lovely new X61T when writing in tablet mode.  I have reinstalled the drivers, but that hasn't solved my problems. Basically, when I'm in tablet mode, I noticed that my cursor will fly off in different directions if the screen is rotated even the tiniest amount. If all pressure is removed from the screen, it takes a second, but the cursor stabalizes and becomes responsive to my pen again.Unfortunately, when I write on my tablet, my hand rests on the screen (just like I used to on my previous 2 tablets). This pressure seems enough to throw my cursor off just enough to interfere with my writing.I have a feeling this is an overactive response to the screen moving. Is there a way to shut it off?Any thoughts would be helpful! I won't be able to send my machine away for at least another few weeks, and even then, I don't really want to send it away unless i have to!All the best!Aaron

Answer:X61T - handwriting problems

certainly there is!  Although my cursor wasn't running crazy about I had the same bad experience when my hand was lying down on the screen while jotting. To disable it go to control panel->input devices then choose "touch" bookmark and untick the first field saying "use your finger as an input device" Hopefully this do the trick!

I use Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 on Windows XP. I have installed handwriting recognition and it is listed on my speech bar. I click on handwriting recognition and then the writing pad but no box pops up. When I click write anywhere, I see no visible change there either. There seems to be no solution to my problem on Microsoft's site or this one.

I just bought a Wacom Bamboo Tablet for my laptop which runs Vista Ultimate x64. I keep reading online about people using the Handwriting recognition feature (which is apparently available with Vista Ultimate) but when I go into the Tablet PC Settings on my Control Panel, I don't see any option to turn handwriting on. I know my Wacom tablet is compatible with the feature; Wacom's own site boasts as much.

Hell, when I googled my question the first link that popped up was about Vista Handwriting Recognition with Wacom tablets.

What am I missing? Is there anyone out there who can enlighten me? I'd appreciate it.

First of all ChickenLoMein,

a hearty welcome to the Vista Forums. You'll find a varied and great bunch of Folks here, and there is always someone around to help you with any problems that you may have, so let's get started and say more about that later.

First of all, Files etc. for your 'Bamboo' Tablet are probably in two different Folders under Programs. For example;

Pen Tablet: This is your 'Bamboo' Tablet as you installed it;

Tablet PC......and this is what Vista has installed, ready for you to connect your 'Bamboo' Tablet. Handwriting Recognition is a part of this Folder, but more on that follows.

Before Handwriting Recognition can be activated, you must first of all, enter examples and detail specimens of your handwriting. You do this by following these steps;

Click on the 'Start' button... Read more

So, I bought myself a lovely Wacom Bamboo Tablet a while ago. I love it and all, but there's been a huge issue with Windows XP (Home Edition with SP3). I've tried a multitude of times to get my computer to allow handwriting recognition, but it can never work out. I've Google'd for a solution, but from what I've found, I need Microsoft Office since it comes with an "engine" to allow handwriting recognition. I really don't want to spend money on the Microsoft Office, since I'm happy with

So here's my question! Is there any way to obtain this co-called "engine" without having to purchase Microsoft Office? I really would enjoy using my tablet as a full replacement for my mouse and keyboard.

Thanks for any help in advance :)!

Good day ! I am looking at an orgaizational laptop upgrade, and am considering the T460s or Yoga 260. I believe they are very close to each other from a portability and performance standpoint, and I am really looking at whether I can start to use a pen in tablet mode to take notes more efficiently in meetings. Unfortunately, IT is fixed at Windows 7 at this point, and I understand that WRITEit is Windows 10 only. What are opinions on whether a convertable has any advantage over the T460s when running Windows 7 when it comes to note taking ? And, are there any decent handwriting programs for Windows 7 to use with the Yoga 260 on Windows 7, which woudl allow for handwriting conversion to digital ? e.g., into notepad, Word, etc.. I understand that Windows 10 is far more tablet-friendly, but I won't have the option to be running v10. Thanks !

I have installed the November update using the MCT on my SP3.
Overall it seemed a solid update however I have noticed that I cannot write a reminder note using the Surface Pen and Cortana.
I am not sure if this is a regional variance. I am in the UK.
Anybody else noticed this?

Answer:Cortana Handwriting Recognition

Same here, Italian surface pro. Same issue is posted in the Cortana forum with no answer.
