google drive icon gone after moved document folder location to Gdrive

Question: google drive icon gone after moved document folder location to Gdrive

Simply it was there as an icon and syncs.
I then opened folder 'documents' properties, and reassigned location to be under c:\users\tricia\Google Drive.
Win10 copied all the files and they were synced to google drive on the web site.
But the icon for google drive vanished.

Here is a picture, it no longer appears, is this normal?
What would happen if I revert the location back to default target ?

Online instruction to do this.
How to: Automatically Backup My Documents Folder To Google Drive

It is working, but the danger is if someone deletes your files on google drive, it will sync back to your pc and delete them too. It is very convenient. To do it the stock way, means you have double files on your PC.

Can google drive be configured to only sync forward, not backwards?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I moved the location of my 'Documents' folder from the C drive to the root of my D drive in error. What I meant to do was move it to D:\Documents.

I have managed to restore the original location back to the C drive, and clicking on Documents under the user heading in file explorer takes me to the folder's location on the C drive. However, when I look under the This PC heading in explorer, the documents folder name is showing as D:\

If I right click the Documents folder under the user heading and click pin to quick access, it also shows the name as D:\

Any ideas on how to prevent this? I realise it is only cosmetic, but it does make things confusing, as the folder is no longer stored on the D drive at all!

Thanks,

Matt

Answer:Moved document folder location and now name is incorrect

Open File Explorer. On the Left Panel under This PC, right click the Documents Directory and choose Properties. Click the Location Tab. Click the Move button. Browse it to where you want to move it to. Apply and OK. Click the Find Target to make sure it goes to the right place.

I was uninstalling windows live essential on my profile and added ms office outlook 2007 for email. For some reason, when changing users to my wife's profile, the desktop has to be prepared each time - as a temporary profile. The folder location has moved from Users/wife to Users/Users/wife and has a lock icon on it. I have tried moving the entire folder as administrator and received a not responding message.
Short of a restore in which I will lose data is there a way to 'import' her profile under a new user and then delete the corrupted profile?

Answer:LOST a USER profile (folder location has moved + lock icon)

Hello Redjack, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you like, you could try using the tutorial below to see if you may be able to fix her profile.http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/13...y-profile.html
If not, then you could create a new administrator account for her to use instead. Afterwards, log into the new account, copy anything (ex: shortcuts, files, etc...) she wants from the old account to the new account, and delete the old account.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi,
Is there a way to mount a local path with a user friend name (similar to a device name). For eg, mount 'D:/Users/Rahul' folder as 'Rahul'. (similar to Googles GDrive). I have done some registry changes and list the name 'Rahul' in the drives list as a device. (Adding into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\).
But in the right side explorer tree list the new name is not displayed. Could any one know how to do it.

Or any other way to create a GDrive like folder.??
Thanks in Advance,
Rahul.

Hi & thanks for any replies,

I have tried DL'ing the stand alone installer and the Google Pack(no longer). Doesn't matter what I do it installs to Appdata-grrr. I have read all the reasons google installs to this folder; none of which apply to my situation.

Also, I apologize if this topic has been addressed here before. I did multiple searches and found nothing.

At this point, I'm ready to go in and hack it out w/ the proper directions.

Thanks again for any help.

Hi. I'm still using XP on a netbook. In trying to add a network location to my Send To folder, I accidentally moved the location folder to Send To by dragging it, instead of creating a shortcut as I should have done. Now the location (one of three computers on the network) does not show up in My Network Places. It's in the Send To folder, and I can't move it back, either by dragging or cutting and pasting. How can I restore it to the proper location? Thanks in advance. --smeans2

I moved a folder with 20 MP3 I made with a music software from my desktop to my 2TB hard drive, and it said "moving" once moved the original folder is STILL there and NOT deletable!!! when I go to delete it it has a "shield" like it requires special permission, if I try to delete the folder I get an error message "You need permission to perform this action. You require permission from the computer's administrator to perform this action"  AND I AM THE ADMINISTRATOR!!! and IT DOESN'T MATTER how many times I click "try again" THE SAME MESSAGE APPEARS!!! if I right click 'properties' it says 'unable to display current owner' and 'access is denied'  error message appears if I try to take ownership of the file!!! even with the right click context hack!! THE FOLDER WILL NOT DELETE WHATSOEVER!!!! I GOT A FOLDER THAT IS STUCK ON MY DESKTOP AND MY COMPUTER REFUSES TO LET ME DELETE IT!!!

HOW DO I GET THIS FOLDER REMOVED????

Answer:moved folder still in original location - not deletable - access is denied

Hello -
A quick idea that you most likely have used, but I shall repeat it -

Have you Right Clicked on the icon and selected "Run as Administrator" ??

Also have you looked in the 2TB hard drive to make sure it did in fact transfer ?

Dear BleepingComputer folk,

My laptop is running Firefox 40.0.3 under Windows 8.1 (64-bit).

The Problem

Two nights ago my browser (then Firefox 40.0.2) started opening some webpages extremely slowly, simply refusing to open others and producing a "This document has been moved here" message for others (see below screenshot - the link would appear to go to whatever I searched for, but I never clicked it).

These various problems were affecting familiar websites that I have bookmarked and regularly open, such as Facebook.  This seemed to be in some way related to the cache, as it was not affecting new URLs that I had not visited previously during that browsing session.

Where is the actual location of the file folder containing all the default icons available in Windows 7? The When you right-click on a folder, the 'Properties', the 'Customize', then 'Change Icon', the 'Change Icon for _name_ Folder appears, displaying many icons. The first box you can type in, named "Look for icons in this file:", shows %SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll .

Vista Forum,

Thank you for posting this usefule information. I have relied on this forum for several issues I have had with Vista. I want to say thank you.

So, here is my current issues. I have read and seached for a solution for changing the folder icon for a folder that was created by me. In this folder I have included several manuals PDF documents that I would like to place on the the desktop of our corporate computers.

The problem is that I am not able to change the icon on this particular folder. I have read all the documenation and performed the following steps. Right clicking on the folder> Selecting the customize tab> Selecting the Change Icon Button> Selecting the icon I would like to use> The icon even shows up next to the "change icon" button once I have selected it. After I select apply nothing happens. the icon does not change and the setting never sticks.

I have noticed the folder I'm attempting to change the icon on is located in the C:\users\public\public desktop location. Is there anything different I should be doing in order to change a folder icon located here?

When I'm in full admin mode on a test machine I'm able to save with out any issues. What sort of security issues may be preventing me from changing the folder icon on a PC that may or may not be "managed".

I'm currently using Windows Vista business edition. Any suggestions would be helpful as I have read and tried what has been listed here and on other thre... Read more

Hi fusionstar and welcome to TSF!

OK, try this:

Right click on the desktop somewhere and select Properties. On the Desktop tab, click Customise Desktop. Click on the My Documents icon and click Restore Default. Hit OK, Apply and OK.

If this doesn't work, follow the same steps, but instead of hitting Restore Default, change the icon to something else then change it back, then hit OK, Apply and OK again.

Hello,

i am searching since a long time for a solution to show empty folders with a different icon.

My Workaround is the following:

I have a Project Folder, it contains Folders with my projects.
If i start a new project i run a small batch with:

mkdir Datasheets
mkdir Layout
mkdir Logik
mkdir Eprom
mkdir Firmware
mkdir Pictures
mkdir Text
mkdir Gcode
cd Layout
mkdir Eagle
mkdir Gerber
exit

So it is the same structure in every project folder.

I am looking for a solution to show empty folder (even they contain sub-folders like the Laout-Folder!)
with a different icon say empty.ico. Only if there is a file inside the folder/subfolder it shall show the normal folder icon!

I have tried different tools but they wont do what i want.
Maybe there can be something with the desktop.ini file?
Or can someone write a script wich runs once a minute to check the folders?

Does anyone has a idea?

And no, i dont want to delete empty folders!

Wolfram.

Hello Alvin,

You're Favorites (bookmarks) used by IE8 are stored in the C:\Users\(user name)\Favorites folder. You can just copy the folder to back them up, and copy the contents of the folder into that location to restore them.

*How this came about*
I tried to move my Music library, but instead of including the 'Music' folder in F:\ drive, I included the drive itself.
I promptly included the 'Music' folder in F:\ and set it as the default location, then removed F:\ from the Music library locations.

However...

Eh yeah, this looks embarrassing.

The 'normal' location is F:\ .

I've since deleted the 'Music' library twice and performed restarts for each attempt. None removed my F:\ drive from my 'Users' folder or removed the 'Locations' tab from the F:\ drive properties.

It's a minor technical problem but a major eyesore.

Answer:Drive in 'User' folder, 'Location' tab in drive properties

It's too big a mess to sort easily with the way you masked the screenshots.

Try System Restore to before you did this.

Hello, I want what's inside the external hard drive, to look the same no matter the pc it's plugged into.
So, I found how to change Folder Icons permanently from another thread,..
Now, what remains is changing the folder view, or else the icons won't be clear, so is that even possible?
PS. I know it's kinda OCD ..

Answer:External Hard Drive, Permanent Folder View (Folder Icon Size)

I did some research , and found that it was possible on windows xp via the "desktop.ini" through "FolderType=string" (eg: pictures, videos), but it seems it's impossible on windows 7.
The reason is that the " Show Common Tasks" in Folder options has been removed from windows 7.

When I build a system last year, I followed instructions on a website to move the Document folders (My Pictures, Videos, Downloads, etc.) in Win & to a different HDD (other than the SD where Win 7 was installed).

The first admin account that was created and used to make this change would not be impacted but all subsequent new accounts would have their document folders location changed. So once I created the main admin account I created a second account after making the change and used the second account from then onwards. This way all my saved documents were being physically installed on the larger capacity second HD.

Unfortunately I cant find that step by step instruction (I believe it had something to do with changing the registry??)

Anyone know where I can find that instruction again. Also, is there a better way out there to accomplish this now?

Thanks.

please help.

my cousin who was playing with my laptop made 2 new folders in the 20 GB External Disc Drive (EDD) which was connected and stored all the contents of that EDD in these 2 folders including perhaps sys files or files of that EDD.

now i dint know this and i safely removed the hardware and the EDD.

problem now is that after that, the EDD is not recognised by any computer.

i mean the USB is connecting properly and the icon for "safely remove hardware" is seen but on opening my computer or windows explorer, the drive is not seen.

i tried troubleshooting, where i found that the device status showing that it is working normal.

i uninstalled the driver and then disconnected the EDD, then on reconnecting , the drivers got installed on its own and again the icon for "safely remove hardware" is seen but the drive is not sensed by the computer.

can anyone help me even just to open this EDD in DOS mode or in a way that i can restore the original files the way they were, or can separate the contents of the folder that were made.

Hi guys,

I've just built myself a shiny new PC, and I've gone and made a booboo straight off the bat

I was attempting to change the location of the My Music folder to my second HDD so that it wasn't taking up space on my smaller SSD. Instead of clicking 'move' in the location tab and creating a new folder, I accidentally selected the whole E drive. I also did this before creating a restore point (eeejit).

I can't change the folder's location now because it considers the whole drive as the music folder. When I search for shell:my music and then click on the folder (shown as the E drive), and then go to 'move' in the location tab and create a new folder to move it to, it tells me: Cannot redirect parent into descendant. The specified path is invalid.

I tried option 1 from this tutorial posted on these forums to no avail. I'm considering option 2, but I'm wary of this because my entire drive (which is empty at the moment) is currently assigned as the shell folder.

Does anyone know if it's safe to try option 2, and whether it will work in this situation?

Thanks in advance

Otters (Will)

EDIT:

OK, I tried option 2 and it worked nicely. It has left me a with a folder called 'Music' rather than 'My Music' though. I know it's a minor niggle, but does anyone know how to rename this folder, because doing it through the folder properties doesn't work?

Answer:Help: moved 'My Music' folder to E:\ drive

Hello Will, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm happy to hear OPTION TWO in the tutorial has helped so far.

You don't want to manually rename these folders like any other file or folder. Doing so will cause issues.

Is that at your E: location?

What is the name of the folder in your C:\Users\(user-name) folder location? Is it My Music or just Music as well? Does it have a "Locations" tab when you right click on it, and click on Properties?

I used the tutorial to move my user folders to a spare, second drive in my laptop. Now I'm thinking about changing it from a spinner to an SSD and I'm wondering what steps I should be considering, before I make that swap, to preserve my user folders and migrate it to a second drive.

Could someone describe the process to replace that drive or point me to a guide? What's tripping me up is if I don't move it back to C: what will windows do when I remove the drive that contains the user folders, and put in the new one upon first boot.

Thanks for any direction everyone!

Answer:User Folder - Move Location drive replacement

Hi, the safest path to avoid complication would be to move your folders back to your SSD. Your laptop supports SSD + HDD, so you're replacing the HDD with a SSD.

If you want to get best performance you will need to set your second SSD to use AHCI rather than IDE.

If you didn't want to move your folders, you could use disk imaging and the disk imaging software's boot medium to boot your PC, and hence move data /partitions from your HDD to your new SSD.

Best practice recommended here is to use disk imaging routinely anyway, so ideally you already have a full set of disk images.

If not, read on:
Creating disk images lets you restore Windows and all your disks and partitions to a previous working state, quickly and probably without technical help.

You can recover from:
- a failed disk drive (restore to a new one)
- ransomware (which encrypts your disk)
- user error
- unrecoverable problems from failed updates to problem programs
- unbootable PC (hardware faults aside)

Images also act as a full backup- you can extract files too.

You can even use images to help you move more easily and quickly to a new PC.

Imaging can even help you sleep at night knowing you have a second chance.

Many here recommend Macrium Reflect (free) as a good robust solution and more reliable than some others. It?s
- more feature rich
- more flexible
- more reliable
than Windows Backup and Restore system images.

It's well supported with videos, help and a responsive forum.

There are other such... Read more

Here's exactly what I did:

I have a 3TB Seagate hard drive that I primarily use with my Windows 8.1 machine every day. I turned off that computer, unplugged the drive, and plugged it into my Windows 7 laptop. I moved (not copied) about 2GB from C:\ImportantPhotos to the external drive to Z:\Photos\Unsorted. The files moved in about 7 minutes. They were gone from my Windows 7 laptop and appeared fine on my external hard drive.

I then plugged the hard drive back into my Windows 8.1 primary machine and turned it on. When I went to navigate to the Z:\Photos\Unsorted\, I saw ImportantPhotos folder and was pleased to know this was a success. I mean, why wouldn't it be? However, when I clicked the folder it gave me an error about the folder not being available, and now the folder is completely gone. I tried to view the folder back on the Win7 laptop, and it was still missing completely.

Where did my files go? Did I lose them completely

(Possibly relevant: There was definitely activity on the external drive, as the parent folder (Unsorted) shows Date Modified time of exactly the time the files were moved.)

THANK YOU for any help help! My engagement photos are on there!!! If you need any more information at all, please ask!

Answer:Moved 2GB to external HDD using Win7, plugged drive into 8.1, folder gone

Hello, and Welcome

Hindsight is 20/20 but for important files it is always best to copy and not move. You can always delete the originals once you know the copy was successful.

That being said Unhide your files and folders as shown here. Do you see the folder on the external drive or on your C: Drive? If not then in the search box type in the name of the folder you moved the files to. Does a search find the folder?

I am running Windows 7 home premium, with school computers the same, and an Android Razr Maxx.

I have Google Drive and it seems to be sharing docs well....I see them at home, at my work, on the Android phone....however I have this continuing problem: at my work, I go to open a doc or mp3 or PP or whatever from GD. It shows up in Google docs right away....but the file - download function doesn't always work; that is, it often won't allow me to access the original document......sometimes it will just time out and i'll get the "IE was unable to load page" or whatever message that you see when you don't have an internet connection....that happens a lot actually.

Also, I have mp3's in there, and when I try to open them, no dice.

I want to be able to simply open any doc or PP or mp3 in its original form. Sometimes I can, usually I can't, so, big source of wasted time and frustration. To be clear: most of the time, I dump these files into GD from my home computer. Any help appreciated!

When saving a Word 2007 document as a webpage (htm, html), an extra folder is automatically created besides the hmtl document itself. This folder contains background information like pictures, wallpaper etc. Is there a way to prevent that folder from being created in the first place? I've got Word 2000 on another computer, and when I save my word documents as html files over there, that extra folder is not generated. The only time that folder is created in 2000 is if my documents contain pictures, wallpaper etc. In Word 2007, it is created all the time, even though my documents are just plain text.

Answer:Solved: Word 2007, saving document as html document: how to get rid of extra folder?

Managed to find the solution, it was very simple after all. One has to save the document as a filtered webpage and click "yes" when a box pops up warning you that you will use certain featuers which are specific to Office2007, such as the background. Then the document will save without that extra folder and files.

When I plug my external drives into my computer it comes up as a folder. I have plugged a couple of my friends external drives into my computer and their hard drives now open as a folder as well. I have ran Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition with the new definitions and it does not detect a virus. I have ran Spybot Search & Destroy 1.62 and Window Defender and neither one detected any spyware or malware. My computer is operating with Windows XP Pro SP3.

Also, with my internal drive and external drives when you go to My Computer and click on C drive or the external hard drive, it opens as a search. I have to right click and go to Open or Explore in order to view the contents. I asked someone about this and they said it was a VBS.runauto or VBS. autorun virus. If you have a program or a suggestion that might work to not infect anyone elses drives and fix my current problem I would greatly appreciate it.

I have been trying to restore the " My videos" folder but to no avail
If anyone can help me through restoring these folders as it use to .... I would highly appreciate !!

Answer:Two Document Folders in the Same Location

Should be easy to correct. Try using the back up and restore funtion. That should work. If for some reason it does not system restore should work. System restore us usually reserved for OS problems, but it may work if Backup and restore does not.

I am using Window's XP (Pro). I've created a folder 'Family Documents' how do I make this folder the default saving location?

Thanks.

Stuart

Answer:Document Saving Location

2 ways to do this:

1. On your desktop.. Right-Click on the 'My Documents' folder and then click on 'Properties'. Under Target folder location you can chose 'Find Target' and change the location there to the folder you created. It will still be called 'My Documents' but it will be the location of the folder you created.. this way is good to do if you have several user accounts because you can do it for all the accounts and everybodys 'my documents' folder will be the same location.

2. On your desktop.. Right-Click on the 'My Documents' folder and then click on 'Rename'. Now type the new name of the folder there.

In Windows XP I could right click the folder, gon into properties then change its location to lets say the D: drive (my D: drive is another hard drive)
So, if ever I would crash and reformat, I would'nt loose anything personnal.

In Vista, I see that I can do the same thing, but the problem is, the folder My Mysic, My Pictures, My Videos, etc are not stored in the folder My Documents...

Is there anyways I could change: C:\Users\Matts location to my D: Drive?

Answer:Inserting document location

With the cursor, in the footer, go to Header & Footer Tools, then Design tab. Select the drop down arrow at Quick Parts, and the select "Field". There you can select the FineName and then add a check mark to include the path.

This is a good one to remember. as ALL of the fields are listed.

Please kindly help me with the following problem. I installed a new Sata HDD on my PC, with XP Professional, (no other hardware changed). But, when moving the e-mail or the word document/s up or down with cursor, the page moves up or down with a wavy motion (like sea waves). This it did not do before. How can I cure this. I don't think this would have anything to do with your SATA drive as far as I know, but I've experienced a similar problem when my graphics card drivers weren't installed properly and reverted back to the windows default adapter. Try downloading the latest drivers for your card from the net and re-install them, hopefully that will do the trick

Hello, I'm trying to help a friend with a laptop running XP for home. After booting up all of the folders on the desktop have been moved to another location and the files within have been moved as well to another location other than the original folder.

A system restore was ran from when a known date when everything was running correctly but it did not correct the problem.

The Malwarebytes program was installed and ran and successfully deteceted three bugs and removed them. There were no bugs titled desktop.exe after the scan was run. After a reboot, the files/folders were still in the wrong locations. Hijackthis was installed and ran and I am showing the log file here.

I also had them update their Norton Anti-Virus which had expired and then a new scan with updates was ran.

Just wondering if anything is wrong with the registry now. Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

Hello.
My question is how can I customize the folder icons on a portable drive like a flash drive? I've learned how to change the drive icon itself, but I want to change the folder icons within the drive directory so that the set icons appear in whatever PC it's connected to.

I can customize a folder icon by right clicking the folder and selecting properties customize change icon... But this customization only appears on the original system (computer A). When I connect the drive to computer B, the folder icons revert back to the default folder icons. Obviously, computer A retains the setting information, but how do I make the drive retain the settings information so that it displays on computer B like computer A and so on and so forth?

Two people use my computer, Nathan and Michael. Both are Administrators. When Nathan is logged on his Word 2003 documents are saved in: C:\...Nathan\Documents.

When Michael is logged on, his Word 2003 documents are also saved in: C:\Nathan\Documents.

Obviously, the way it should work is Nathan's Word documents should be saved under his log-in and Michael's documents should be saved under Michael's log-in. I can't make that happen. Here's what I've tried so far:

I go to Control Panel, Tools, Options, File Locations.

When I click Modify I can indicate a different folder for saving Word documents, but I can't change the location "Nathan." Also, any change I make just adds the new extension to the existing. Example:

C..\Nathan\Documents Modified to: C..\Nathan\Documents\Documents

just an example. Whatever I choose is added onto the existing location

C..\Nathan\Documents.

I hope I've explained this clearly. Any Word 2003 experts out there who can help on this one? It's really got me puzzled. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Can't set document location for individual users in word 2003

Michael does not have his own login, Like you and the other user have. You can confirm this by going to C:\Users. Is there a Michael user? If not, Go to Start/Control Panel/User Accounts and create a new user profile for Michael. This will create a new Documents folder under Michael's user name. Log out of your user profile and log in as Michael. Open Word up go to Tools/Options/File Locations. Make sure the default Save location is C:\Users\Michael\Documents. Michael can set his own password for his login.

(Not sure if correct forum area)

Please help! Searched the internet, and could not find reliable results.

I am helping a friend set up Google Drive for his small business. He has the free version of Google Apps for Business (his webmaster had the foresight to sign the domain up in time, but they never set it up back then).

The Google Drive system tray icon keeps disappearing. It is still busy doing the first major sync of all the files we put in there (12GB's on a 1MB line), but it disappears every hour or so. We know the overall sync will take days to complete.

Does that mean synchronising has stopped?

How can I stop this from happening? My friend and I are becoming very irate, though would like to keep the other benefits of Google Apps (Google Sheets, 3rd party apps, etc).

We have tried setting the Google Drive folder to show hidden content (as per one of the internet suggestions).

Rebooting the PC or relaunching Google Drive from the 'search everywhere' pane brings it back, but then the same problem occurs.

My friend is using Windows 8.

Thank you for any help.

Anyway to do this? I don't use Onedrive at all, i do use Google Drive, i just want to replace that shortcut to lead to google drive instead of onedrive? maybe editing through regedit? Thanks everyone.

Answer:Replace OneDrive icon in explorer with Google Drive

I was also looking for this and my starting point was the known solution to hide the OneDrive Icon in the Explorer. So there had to be some more Options in the registry.
In the key

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{018D5C66-4533-4307-9B53-224DE2ED1FE6}\Instance\InitPropertyBag

I found the entry "TargetKnownFolder" with value "{a52bba46-e9e1-435f-b3d9-28daa648c0f6}"

This could to be a reference to the actual Folder. So i was searching for this reference in the whole registry and found three entries.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

The first is the only full path i found and i replaced it with my current Google Drive Folder path (D:\Google Drive)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{A52BBA46-E9E1-435f-B3D9-28DAA648C0F6}

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions \{A52BBA46-E9E1-435f-B3D9-28DAA648C0F6}

The other two entries are similar and i replaced every value which had formerly the string "OneDrive" with "Google Drive" (I don't know if this is necessary)

After a restart, my Explorer Looks like this:

It is not yet perfect but it is what i wanted. And i guess it is what you was looking for.

Hi Guys,
Firstly i'll start off by saving hello and thank you for your help.

I had to move my old mans HDD into my PC to remove some viruses. I also want to backup all his information onto a partition on my PC.

When i tried to directly copy all the contents of his My Documents folder, it denied me access, like it would if you were a low access user trying to get into the admin's my documents folder.

If i put the HDD back into his computer, loaded windows, and removed admin rights from his user account, and then moved the HDD into my PC - would that work and allow me access to those files?

Thanks for your help,
Marshall

Answer:Blocked access to My Document Folders when HDD moved to another PC

Good afternoon,

I have two problems I would be grateful for help with. McAfee AntiVirus and Malwarebyte scans have shown nothing.

"This document has moved" - something hijacks my browser on a frequent basis taking me to a different page than I wanted.

Thank you in advance for any help. I hope I have scanned and posted everything correctly.

Hi
Windows XP PC is extremely sluggish and makes a loud whirring noise, so bought a Seagate external hard drive. I inadvertantly moved the "my documents" folder on to it and now cannot open the folder without the hard drive plugged in. how do I move it back to its original home? It hasn't exactly stopped the extremely slow way the PC opens any file or even surfing the net. Please help!

Answer:Solved: accidentally moved "my documents" folder to external hard drive

Restore the My Documents Folder to Its Default Location
To restore the My Documents folder to its default location, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then point to My Documents.
Right-click My Documents, and then click Properties.
Click Restore Default, and then click OK.
In the Move Documents box, click Yes to move your documents to the new location, or click No to leave your documents in the original location.
Let me know if that works.

However since yesterday, they have reported that strange folder names are automatically appearing. i have cleared out these folders from the associated win3k users folder, had him re-synced, and all appeared ok yesterday. But today, these files are back again and sync now fails completely.
Has anyone any ideas what to try now?
Thanks in advance.

When I did the Windows 7 install, I am not sure whether during sysprep or using something called Profile Re-locator, I moved the Users Folder from the C: OS drive to my second E: data drive.

I want to upgrade to Win 10 and have been putting it off.

I forgot how to move the users folder back prior to the upgrade.

We are a small nonprofit and attempted to save a large amount of files from desktop to a usb drive. Once everything was copied -we checked and they seemed to be all there -so we deleted the files from the desktop. Now when we open the usb -all of the files
with the exception of the music files are converted to thumb.db files?  Not sure what to do? Is there anyway that we can convert the thumbs.db files back to their original files (word, pdf, jpeg)? Please someone help. thank you.

Hi.

I have a boot drive which is 250gb (My C drive). I have Win 7 and some apps on it.
I have installed Steam on my other hard drive. So far most games have been cooperative and install their folders close to Steam!

However, one game in particular (Empire Total War) has installed one of its folders in "C:\Users\XYZ\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly".

From experience from my old PC, I know this folder (The Creative Assembly) can grow to close to 20gb in a matter of a year. I don't want that to happen and therefore thought of relocating, moving, or redirecting this folder (The Creative Assembly) to another location.

How do I do that and is that recommended? (I could simply go ahead and do this right now, but I would rather get some expert opinions first before any instabilities in my system).

Thank you.

Answer:Move a folder within the appdata/roaming folder to another location?

If you attempt to move the folder any programs dependant on that folder would have to know where to look for it, if you do attempt it i would leave the original in situ and copy/paste to new drive then attempt to redirect program if it fails then you still have original

Im not familiar with steam but as long as you can redirect the games save file path to new location if you have that option then i dont see why you cant do it

I backup online with Carbonite and following my recent refresh of my laptop the files and folders in "Documents" are not being backed up.
Carbonite support took control of my laptop and told me: "The Documents Folder shortcut from within the Windows File Explorer is pinned to opening the Cookies Folder on your PC. You need to get the folders pinned and reorganised accordingly. Once the data is registered on your computer as a Document and not a Cookie file or folder, Carbonite will be able to back it up".

If I right click on the File Explorer icon in the Taskbar I don't see any mention of Cookies, so how do I overcome this problem? Can anyone please help?

Answer:Document Folder pinned to opening the Cookies folder

They appear to be commenting on something viewed via an explorer window, which they call "The Documents Folder shortcut".

I don't understand their statement- suggest you get back to them.

Recently our main file server (Serv3) crashed (one hard drive died and when attempting to rebuild the RAID array it was rebuilt with corrupt data). In an effort to get people working again I used our tape backups to restore all of our files to our new server (DCServ1). When opening some word files Word 2000 hands up, regardless of computer. When using Word 2007 it freezes but states that it is trying to connect to a template on Serv3/{pathname} and you can press Escape to cancel.

Is there a way to fix this using Word 2000?

I've tried to upgrade my Win7 desktop to Win10 yesterday and after downloading all the stuff ti told me it couldn't install it on this computer because the installation could be placed in a non supported directory.
Huh?
Ok, I found out it is because when I set up my Win7 I decided to relocate the default path(s) for the program installations in order to point to my D: drive.
This seems to be causing the trouble.
Besides the stupid inability of MS programmers to take something like this into account (why don't they just read what's in the current registry and copy that over while Win10 is installing?):
I guess I will have to move all my installed programs back to C:\Program Files (and the x64 equivalent) and to change the registry settings back to their default ones.
Or is there any other way (i.e. set this in the ISO files before attempting to upgrade)?

Answer:What a mess! MS didn't consider users could have moved 'Program Files' to different location

Well if you decided it was a good idea to move around directories, I'm sure you can fix it.

Peace on earth, goodwill towards all.

I moved my default user folders (Documents, Music, Pictures, Video) from C to a different partition by using the Location tab. This successfully moved the folders and their contents to the new partition.

I can see the folders and contents in the new partition. The folders no longer exist on C and %USERPROFILE% points to the new partition.

And yet, when I go into Settings > System > Storage I see "New documents will save to This PC (C" and the same for the other folders.

Obviously, I want those folders to be on the new partition. How do I make Settings understand that I already moved these folders with the Location tab?

Answer:Moved Default User Folders With Location Tab, But Settings is Unchange

Take the drop down arrow next to the save location and choose the drive you want them to be on.

Save to Google Drive allows you to save any web content directly to your Google Drive through the context menu of the browser.

In the settings you can choose where the contents get saved, I recommend navigating to your Google Drive and creating a new folder for all Saves with this extension which makes it easier to organise later. Or you can change the location from the dialog that appears once complete.

You can save all types of contents including;
- documents (pdf / docx)
- images
- webpages including HTML5 audio and video (html / webp / webm)
- audio and video (mp3 / mp4)
- archives
- software (exe / msi)
and much more!

Simply right-click over the image or link contents and Save to Google Drive.

As seen below, Save Link to Google Drive will save the executable to the cloud.

No downloading or re-uploading required to Google Drive.

This extension has been available for many years, it's not new, but most may overlook it's abilities.

Greetings!

I'm absolutely dumbstruck by what just happened. I was a little too quick with my clicking, and instead of opening the folder containing my pictures, I dragged it into another folder called "14941b93d3ad9f41aa7df524fe". I will refer to it as the folder of doom. The folder contains two sub-folders ('amd64' and 'i386'. The two folders both contain these files, though they have different size:
'filterpipelineprintproc.dll'
'msxpsdrv'
'msxpsinc.gpd'
'msxpsinc.ppd'
'mxdwdrv.dll'
'xpssvcs.dll')
I have previously done some googling on the folders and since they, apparently, weren't harmful, I decided not to do anything about them. After I put my picture-folder into the folder of doom I pressed ctrl+z and get the error message "Folder not available...No access"(screen shot). When I open the picture folder inside the folder of doom, I get the same error message. It also says that the folder contains 0 byte.

My question of course is if and how I can pull my pictures out of the abyss.

My computer is running Windows XP Home Edition (SP3). The harddrive in question does not contain the OS.

Vista Business Admin Username = "BOB" on an updated, freshly installed 32-bit PC.

Problem:

I partition my hard drive into a system "c:" and a data partition "Z:". I moved my music, pictures, and videos folder from the user "BOB" folder located on c: to my data partition "z:" by the right-clicking > properties > location method.

The c: drive has no extra room for any more data while the z: drive has plenty.

But when I try to move a large music library folder from my passport to the music folder on z:, I get a "There is not enough space on BOB. You need an additional 2gb to copy these files" message.

Things I have DONE:

I have tried this with all 3 folders that I have moved to the z: drive. No difference
I checked both the explorer bar and the location tab in the properties dialog and they both show that the folder is in the right location "z:"
I have tried changing the ownership of z: (and all of its subfolders) from SYSTEM to "BOB" and redoing the folder movement again via properties>location method but no change.

The only way I can move the large files to z:/music is by clicking
computers > z:> music. Clicking on start menu>BOB>music will not work.

The PC is thinking that the MUSIC folder is in the c: drive only when moving files to the MUSIC folder. Moving small files to MUSIC is okay since the c: drive has enough space. But of course, the files when done moving... Read more

Hello..

I'll try to keep this as simple as I can.

A server I work with has users on it. They each have a shared drive that is their own personal drive to store files on. (It's a folder on the server but appears as a Drive location under network locations say Z)

So I was asked that the users store their My Documents and other files on the server. I was told by a coworker that you can move the folder on the local pc and store My Doc and such via the Location tab.. So I moved it to drive Z.. (Z:\My Documents for example) I moved a few others from their profiles via their personal pc and then said oh I said oh their Favorites can be moved so they can log in on any pc and have it show up.. so moved to Z:\ because Favorites appeared to be a file.. turns out when you move it.. it dumps every bookmark as a shortcut and now that Z:\ has been renamed Favorites but still Z:\.. and everything in Z shows up under IE favorites in IE.... so i attempted to backtrack and restored things back to they were.. the first attempt went back with restoring favorites first.. the last thing i should have done.. when reverted Favorites deletes that folder (Z) on the server and the user doesn't have a network drive now.. Ok a coworker recreated a Z drive but it seems on some users profiles a App Data folder was also transferred (not by me somehow windows did it) .... So I have already reverted everything except for Favorites and that App Data folder that showed up... Any thoughts? Do we n... Read more

Hi there

seems to be a conspiracy these days of making it hard to use your own subtitles with local media - of course you can always go through the hassle of renaming all your subtitles to XXXX.en.srt or whatever but why should you when you've already got subtitles say in a subs subfolder of the movie.

I often use Icelandic subtitles (translate from English usually - timings are pretty accurate and if there's any delay you can shift the time offset anyway).

Well KODI have simply moved the wretched settings to the AUDIO menu -- I suppose to avoid having too many menus etc this could make some peverse sort of sense but I only found it out by accident -- went through every possible setting on every menu and there are LOADS of them.

While playing your content simply get into the audio menu.

(I prefer running this app on my Fire TV to VLC where the subtitle search doesn't work on the latest version).

Kodi also finds shares quickly with no hassle at all --if you are running a Linux type NAS server still choose Windows SMB shares in the file selection for playing local media and scroll down until you get your server -- works 100% every time -- you must have SAMBA up and running though on your NAS box.

I sideloaded KODI via the Apps to fire TV and installed from a phone --easy seamless. Loads of documentation on how to do this on Google.

I wish I'd started with KODI first !!!!! but we all are never too old to learn.

BTW Kodi also plays iso / Blue Ray fi... Read more

Hi everyone,

If installed on PC, Google Drive syncs the contents of the Google Drive folder to the cloud automatically.

I want a continuous backup to specific folders on my PC, say "Uni Stuff" and "Music" (different locations).

That requires GDrive to perceive the two folders as the original GDrive folder. I'm guessing it's possible.
The reason I don't want to just copy the stuff I want to backup, into the GDrive folder, is because it creates an actual copy on my physical HDD. That takes up lots of space.
Is there a way to do it?
Thanks.

Answer:How to redirect Google Drive to sync a certain folder?

Use Symbolic Link. Here you can find a complete guide.

Now my itunes seems to not be working properly. I have iphone 3gs and so when I synced it I don't see the music files under my device or my ringtones. It also said that they can't find my music when I tried to download them into my iphone and every time I put new music or new ringtones in my iphone, the ringtones/music that I have gets deleted. For example: I have 200 songs in my iphone but when I want to put just one song in it, The rest of the 200 songs gets deleted and now I only have that one song. And so now every time I add music to my iphone I would have to add the songs back into the iphone. I would also have to do it to ringtones too and I'd have to manually add them in because if I don't it would never be put into the iphone. So yeah, I'm not too good with itunes because it's too complicated and this is the first time I've ever had a iphone so I'm really confused how to use itunes. Oh and my library music files doesn't automatically update when I add new music so I would have to do the same as I did with my iphone. I'd have to delete, add the files again, sync and so on...

My itunes is up to date, my folders aren't hidden because my music folder and ringtone folder are under my library but not under my device.

I uninstalled itunes and reinstalled but its still the same.

I don't know what to do!! Help please??

Thanks

Thanks for helping;

I press Start
I type
hello
Windows finds files containing 'hello'

Problem:
I press Start
I type the filename of any files I know exist in my Google Drive folder (c:/users/Luke/Google Drive)
nothing appears.

It says "Windows is still indexing some files. This might not be everything just yet."

Thing is, if I go to Indexing Options, it clearly says
"Indexing complete."
and there's no HDD activity (and it's had ages to rebuild the index)...

...oh and I rebuilt the index (~500,000 files).

The best workaround I've found is switching off Indexing (which reveals files in Google Drive folder, but now searching the whole computer takes forever)

Thanks for any ideas!

All keys/passwords from my programs were in a folder (named Software).
After buying a new program I tried to include it in the key.txt file in that folder
The file had disappeared
But a few days before I had uploaded the Software folder to Google Drive. So I downloaded it.
The key.txt file appeared but I could not open it.
There is a lens at the right of the file which when scanned upon, says "view file in folder"
When I click on it, a message, on a black background, says
Unable to locate document with ID "about 25 letters and numbers"
It does not admit a copy and paste and goes away after a couple of seconds.
So I painfully wrote down the whole string, about 4 characters at a time because the message would go away.
I entered all these characters in Google Search and got no answer (this has not been found).
How can I recover my programs passwords should the PC crash, or if I wish to reinstall or something, without having to contact the program manufacturer.
I cannot call the support telephone because I live in South America, and long distance calls are very expensive. And, many times, you cannot find a place in their sites for written support requests.
Could anybody help me with this, please?
