OS origin for Laptop or Windows 10

Question: OS origin for Laptop or Windows 10

My NE 522 came with Windows 8 64-bit but when I was informed that I could upgrade to Windows 10 for free I jumped on it. I remember having to stair-step to 8.1 then 10 during installation. Everything seemed to be fine for a few months then the BSOD. I managed to get it going again for a short time and now the Laptop is not operational. At startup I get the Gateway logo then a blue screen saying "Default boot device missing..." I get past this using the "recovery" stick I made just after purchase but I get "Choose keyboard layout" then "Troubleshoot or Turn off" as options. I have used the Troubleshoot Path to get to the command prompt. I also can get through POST and access the InsydeH20 startup utility (BIOS) which I use to unfreeze the HDD password (not sure why it keep freezing). Refresh, Reset, Restore and Automatic Repair all fail. From command prompt I access x:\Program Files <x86>> desktop.ini and see one HDD (Boot) with 27.6 MB free of 30.0 MB. I also see the Removable Storage devices.

The top of the command window says "Microsoft Windows [Version 6.2.9200]" Does this mean Windows is installed?
If I have lost the OS how should I attempt to re-install, Win8 then upgrade or straight to Win10?

Preferred Solution: OS origin for Laptop or Windows 10

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

No need for Win8, you can go straight to a clean install of Windows 10. Your successful upgrade from 8 to 10 has recorded a Digital Licence tied to your PC's hardware on Microsoft's activation servers. Do a clean install of 10 (making sure you install the same version as you had before, Home or Pro) and when it asks for a key skip this with the 'I don't have one' or 'register later' option. Once installed your Digital Licence will automatically activate the new install.

Hi, can someone please help as EA aren't helping me!

Origin was working fine until yesterday. Then it came up with this error code:

The procedure entry point _except1 could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program\Origin\Origin.exe.

So I uninstalled Origin, several times and followed EVERYTHING they told me to do, manual uninstall, do it with no anti virus etc. I even tried to download from a third party website, which did progress more in the installation but still failed with even more error messages!

I have had Microsoft access my computer and they have also tried everything and have confirmed that nothing at all is wrong with my laptop (which is what EA was trying to say).

Its really frustrating now and I hope someone can help please!

I have a Toshiba laptop and I am running windows 10.

It was compatible with windows 10 as it was working for a week or so. It did keep crashing but I changed screen resolution and was fine.

I will appreciate any help, Thanks!

I hooked up a HDMI cable between my monitor and my laptop and after I was done using my monitor and checked to see if the colors were okay. A quarter century ago, Windows wasn't everywhere. In fact, some were doubtful it would ever ship at all.

At that point Windows was no longer considered the company?s star project, as it had become a bit of an embarrassment. Even internally there were doubts among some in the company that Windows would ever ship. Also, because Ballmer had already burned though four product managers to try to get there?people who now had been either reassigned or were no longer at Microsoft?the product was developing a reputation for career death.

Monday night after returning from work, several problems cropped up on my computer all at the same time after I restarted it. My computer had been running somewhat slow before then, but virus scans didn't detect anything wrong. Here are the problems that I've been having since I restarted my comp:
The first thing I noticed was that my monitor's resolution changed from its standard 1024x768 to 800x600, which made everything appear big and wouldn't fit my wallpaper properly. Also, all my icons were reset to their default positions. I managed to fix these problems and my screen resolution and icon arrangement has stayed normal, except from when I tried a system restore.
My computer has been running very slowly, far more so than before Monday night. It seems like it takes five times as long to load anything (programs, web pages, etc.). It also takes far more time than normal to restart my computer (it even failed to reboot once, and I was forced to unplug and replug my computer to get it to start up).
Whenever I scroll down the page in any window (in IE, Word, Frontpage, or any other program, it does so slowly and there's this weird "ripple" or "wave" effect to the scrolling motion. It does this whether I use a window's scroll bar or my mouse's scroll wheel. Also, a similar problem happens whenever I drag a window across the screen.

Answer:windows live vs steam vs Origin ?

Doesn't windows live work with steam games? I got the steam version of GTA 4 and it would sign me into windows live so I could see when my XBox friends were online. (Bonus XBox points for playing on PC. )

Never really used it much so can't say for quality, but I imagine Win Live would be for the XBoxers to stay in touch.

Okay, the title sounds vague, but I can give more information.

I am currently running Windows Vista on my HP Pavilion laptop. About a month ago, I started having an issue when Vista launched. After all of the pre-load process had finished executing, I got a message that said that Windows Explorer had stopped responding, and was restarting. Then a whole slew of programs and Windows services went through the same process. Everything from McAfee to my touchpad management software either restarted or stopped all together, and then the computer rebooted.

Now whenever I start up the computer, I still get the same problem with the following two processes: Windows Explorer, and Task Scheduler Engine. The computer does not go into a forced reboot anymore.

Certain programs have not worked properly since. The most notable are IE, Windows Live Messenger, and Yahoo Messenger. IE behaves like I have no active connection, and I can't sign into either of the messengers. Oddly enough, Firefox works just fine - no problems connecting to the net and opening pages.

As I am the only one who uses this computer, I have no idea where this could have come from.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Lately I've had a few issues with my computer, it got slower, and some games didnt install properly due to directX errors. So after looking at some forums for battlefield 3 directX errors I read that uninstalling Origin would be a good idea to fix the problem. While that was going on, first the mouse stopped working (keeping in mind it does that sometimes without there being a problem with the computer), then the screen froze entirely. It came back for a few seconds afterwards, then it froze again and i got the BSOD.

It was set to automatical reboot, so I couldnt read what the error was.

Now the problem I'm having is that, when I start the computer I get these options: Start computer in safe mode , Safe mode with internet, Safe mode with leadtext or whatever and Start windows Normal. Which ever I choose will fail.

Choosing the Normal startup will cause the computer to get stuck on the windows login screen with the wobbly win logo.

Choosing the Safe mode (with and without internet) causes it to stuck, it seems to not be able to load some files.

I've tried running the repair windows option, but the screen went black and nothing else happend.

My thread was closed and I was told to follow the new instructions which I had read already. I am using Windows Vista 64bit and DDS is not compatible with this OS. I did a GMER scan only being able to select the three default options and results turned up with zero results and no log.

Here is the original message for review unless there is another set of instructions for 64bit users.

I have been testing a small application called Alpha Blender which enables me to set windows transparency case to case. I originally did a single file scan on Bit Defender and Kaspersky and both came up with clean results. However, I just used TotalVirus file scanner and it came up with the results below:

http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/6...994-1243064377

Do these results mean that I do in fact have a keylogger on my system tracking my strokes? I am using BlackViper tweaks minimum config so I know it may have helped. Just need insight on weather or not my passwords may be compromised.

I have attached an HT log for review. If any more information is needed I can help.

No, not necessarily.

Programs, often do not produce the desired results on 64 bit systems.

Lets do a couple of scans to make sure you are clean.

Please do the following:

As a Vista user I will require that all the programs I ask you to run, be run by right clicking the icon and selecting Run as Administrator. Otherwise some programs may fail to operate correctly

Download OTS**to your DesktopClose ALL OTHER PROGRAMS.
Double-click on OTS.exe to start the program.
Check the box that says Scan All Users
Check the box that says 64 bit
Under Additional Scans check the following:File - Lop Check
File - Purity Scan
Evnt - EvtViewer (last 10)

Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.
Please attach the log in your next post.

Hi all!

Just starting out on this forum, so I hope you can help me out.

I have a program installed that uses a dll. Recently, I started getting the following error message:
"The application or dll xxxx is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette." (xxxx being my dll path and name; message translated from french, but I'm sure you'll recognise it, I've seen the same kind on the forums elsewhere)

My issue is not to replace the dll, I know it's not corrupt, but it is in a weird format, which might explain the message.

However, what I'd like to know is why windows is suddenly so worried about this dll, and if there's anything I can do to simply tell windows to ignore it. At which point does windows decide to check this local dll? (the program is installed locally in it's own folders, nothing in system32 or elsewhere)

Hope you can help me out!

Thanks in advance!

Answer:origin of message : "xxx is not a valid windows image."

Generally this error means you got the wrong version of the dll installed. IE you are running XP and installed one for Win98 and the one for XP is slightly different.

Sometimes this is a path issue and all you need to do is to copy (not move) the DLL and put it with the others in System32

In addition there are a few specific problems which cause this type of error
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907300

Autocad also has a similar problem for which there is a patch.
So please be more specific.
Is this just one dll? If so what is it?
What application and what consequence?

You should also try reregistering the dll
using your example
go to start / run and type
regsvr32 xxxx.dll
hit enter and wait for it to say success

My son introduced me to Mass Effect, which I was playing via Origin. Then the password would not work, so my son changed it. I got back in and got as far as the financial District in the Citadel, then the password stopped working. I had tried offline several times it did not work.

So I spent an half hour trying to sign into origin under my own name, and it refused me for a long time, so changed my log in and got in. Tried to download a freebie (Syberian 2) to see what it was like and lo and behold, a damn direct x error (this is the millionth time via origin). So I binned that and eventually found somewhere to delete my account , even THAT did not work, so I removed everything I could find in my pc on 'origin' and decided to forget Origin. A waste of virtual space.

Now my question: WHERE can I get a runable copy of Mass Effect (not any of the latest, the original) to run on my pc. Before I lose what little of my sanity I have left.

Answer:Origin (or lack of)

I have not had issues with Origin maybe you should contact EA support. They have always been helpful to me.

Does anyone know if there is a way to recover a TOR account that was merged with another Origin account?

Long story short: I had two Origin accounts. One I created when I bought Mass Effect 3, and the other one I didn't even realize I had. Apparently this one was created without my knowledge when I bought TOR years ago. I called Origin to have what I thought was the empty account deleted and they said they could just merge it with my main one. I figured they knew what they were doing, who was I to argue? Sure, I said.

Apparently the "empty" account was tied to my TOR account, and when it was merged my three TOR characters and expansions became inaccessible.

Has anyone else experienced this and found a way to recover the TOR account? I'm shocked they would offer to "merge" accounts without telling me it would delete characters and games. (How is that even considered a merger anyway?)

Any input would be appreciated.

Short version
Cant get Electronic Arts origin to run on my PC, but installs ok.

Long version
I did a cleanup on a PC that could not run EA origin, or sims 4 after all the usual cleanups inc sfc scannow etc, Origin and sims4 work perfectly. While doing this I noticed that EA were giving away full games under their open house scheme, thought this a good idea....so,installed origin on my PC and when I tried to run it I got a white screen with a rotating black circle.....did all the same cleanup procedures, clean boot etc, bit no improvement....

strangely enough, my Son has an identical build PC, which runs EA origin and games without problem. So I assume this is fixable. I also tried a very old version of origin, but it refused my signin....then tried a slightly newer version, but it insisted on updating and the problem returned.

I welcome any ideas.....thought about a DISM check/repair. Have download the ISO image for the creators edition, but the version number is higher than my winver shows, but I upgraded to creator edition, so not sure why. I understand both .wim files have to be from the same version number.....also not 100% how to do the DISM procedure, but may need to learn this to sort out my problem.

thanks

Well,

yesterday i began using google only to notice that when i clicked on any link, it went to a random redirected link where they would be selling something etc.

with that i went to avg and tried to update to test for viruses and the connection to updates was completely unavailable, i uninstalled avg and installed bitdefender for the same outcome.

today to address the problem i went on a forum much like this one and it tod me to use malwarebytes anti-malware, i did this and whatever i have also refused to allow me to even open this.

i then changed the names of all the .exe files in the program folder and was able to open and run the programs, i removed the threats as the forum advised me to do and now when i restart my desktop i am getting recurring svchost.exe application errors.

I attemtped a system restore but it appears to have gotten their to as it assures me that i need to restart my computer which inevitably leads me back to the same error message.

if anyone could talk me through the repair of my pc in terms that i am an outside chance of understanding that would be absolutely brilliant.

forgive my naivety in advance as i may struggle.

Hello all, I have a question on ublock origin's possibly new filter.

In the image below all the little icons (on all my websites) are not just little blocks with some letters inside the block. It is not too bad as I can hover my mouse over the icon and get a balloon tip as to what the block is, just wondering why this was done, as it did not use to do this and I have used uBlock Origin for a long while.

Any thoughts?

Answer:uBlock Origin new filter??

Have you tried temporarily disabling uBlock Origin to see if it really is the culprit?

I'm using uBlock Origin, it's light and simple to use. I used in the past all of these adblocker and I think uBlock Origin is the Best. What is your favorite ad blocker? The light is more uBlock Origin also in your opinion?

Answer:uBlock Origin Vs Ghostery Vs ABP

I have mixed experience with uBlock O. Not all pages render properly. ABP works fine out of the box. Ghostery is not an ad blocker. You can use some of its features but basically obsolete if you are using an ad blocker already.

ABP is a bit heavier than uBlock O but then again, hardly noticeable unless you running 10+ tabs and have a mid end or low end system.

Ghostery I would just steer away from it, plain and simple, due to their policy (google it for more info).

Voted ABP based on 3 options above.

I have an infection of unknown origin. Problems just started to appear when I logged in this morning.
Attached are the requested reports from the Preparation guide. (attach.txt, DDS.tct and RootRepeal report.txt

My system was already equipped with AVG antivirus, Malwarebytes, and SpyBot Search and destroy.
However, this morning my computer was acting extremely sluggish so I started Malwarebytes. As was killed as soon as it started. I tired to start it again but is received the windows message stating that I do not have permission to run this program.
The same thing happened with Spybot and AVG.

I uninstalled Malwarebytes and reinstalled. Then I rebooted in safe mode and ran malwarebytes which found a bunch of problems that were quickly fixed.

I rebooted into windows (not safe mode) and installed Spybot S&D. After install it will not run Update. I manually update from safer-networking web site download. Spybot did not find any problems.

Then I try to reinstall AVG free 8.5 (build 409 - 8/7/2009) but I get and error during installation..
Error: Action failed for file avgwdsvc.exe: starting service....
Error 0x8007041d

Then I tried to install 30 day trial of Kaspersky but after installation the software will not run...
From Event Viewer:

The Kaspersky Anti-Virus service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

It's been 4 days since my original post and no one has replied.I ran Trend Micro's Online House Call virus scan http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and found that I had the PE_PATCHEP.A virus and it attached itself to 2 system files... explorer.exe and winlogon.exeI was able to recovery those files by booting from the WinXP CD and starting the recovery console.Everything is fixed now. AVG installs and runs properly. SpyBot S&D can do updates. If I could only figure out how this Trojan got past my defenses in the first place then I could close that door also. This problem is solved. Does anyone use Origin? Tonight got an update to the client and now getting a no disk error relating to having a card reader installed on my system. Workarounds are unplug the reader (not an option as mine is internal) or keeping an sd card plugged into it so it's 'live'. Second option avoids the issue but not ideal as don't want an sd card plugged in all the time just in case that could interfere with system booting or cumulative updates. Anyone noticing this? I posted in EA forum but though I'd post on here too. I use Steam and Battle.net too and no such problems with these clients. All these clients including Origin are installed on my secondary internal mechanical hard disk (I: drive), the letters in between C and I are assigned to the memory cards and bluray drive

He for some reason believe that 80% of computer viruses are perpetrated by AntiVirus and computer companies to fuel their next product, whereas I believe it's sad lifeless basement hermits with nothing better to do? Does anyone know where most computer viruses come from... I've searched on the internet but it onl;y gives vague answers...

Answer:What is the origin of computer viruses?

Hello bud,
REAL Computer viruses are designed by crafty and extrememly smart people. They are released to gather information on other users and to sometimes steal credit card info/ personal i dentities. I don't understand why people do it. But they do, and we have to protect ourselvres in turn.

Hope this helps,

I have written our own little website, which is hosted by our ISP (AOL).

Among the features I incorporated was a guestbook which is driven by software originally supplied by AOL, but the application is no longer available and support for member guestbooks has been apparently terminated.

When guestbook entries are made the following actions are taken, probably standard for guestbook features:

1) an html file within the guestbook folder of the website structure is updated with the entry posted,

2) an email copy of the guestbook entry is generated as a notification to our AOL screen name account. The visible ID on the email appears to be both FROM our account TO our account ([email protected]).

Lately, someone or process has been generating noxious entries; about illicit drugs, sex, or gambling opportunities. I have, by a simple change, "buffered" the posting process by pointing the posting process to one file while pointing the display function to another file. This enables me to "harvest" the innocent entries posted and manually add them to the viewable file.

The question...Can the header information on the email sent as part of the posting process be used to backtrack to the true source of the noxious postings or is that header ID thoroughly hosed for that tracing because it appears to always originate from an AOL server?

Here is the header info from one of the latest entries received:

Return-Path: <[email protected]>
Received: from... Read more

I had a recent attack by something called Vundo, among other names. Very frustrating. I hired an online expert to get rid of it and she did. Now (three weeks or so later) it has attacked again. My McAfee Security Center spotted it and took it down, so I guess I'm okay. The question is, is there a way to find out where it comes from? I do not open unsolicited email attachments, do not go to porn or gambling sites, use a strong password, keep my firewall up at all times, and so forth, so I am not doing something stupid. I do go to a lot of sites. Is there a way to tell which one has this trojan lurking?

Hi, i am new here, sorry if i am violating some rule, but my problem is urgent, because if this problem is caused by my new HDD i need to send it back to Amazon. So, let's talk about my problem:
I have my PC since 2011 and never had problems, in May my hard drive is gone and i had to buy a new one (This: Western Digital WD10EZEX Caviar BLUE 1 TB), yesterday i was downloading a Linux distro using Internet Download Manager, i went to the kitchen and when i back to the PC i had a BSOD, i thought it was only a case, so i just rebooted and tried to download again and no problems. This evening, i was download a game in origin, happened the same thing but i forgot to make a photo... and now i am here, someone can help me?

Attacched you can find my log, thanks in advance.

I Have 3 partitions in my HDD (4 if you include Windows extra partition with 100 MB) 1 for Windows, 1 for Linux Mint and one for general data

Answer:BSOD While downloading (Don't Know if is due to origin)

There are no dump files.

Follow these instructions and choose Small Memory Dumps.

Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD

Make sure you don't use any software cleaning programs like CCleaner for the time being as they can remove .dmp files.

Check in these directories.
C:/Windows/minidump
C:/Windows/memory.dmp

Minidumps can be compressed in a zip file after being copied to the desktop then uploaded to Seven Forums directly.

Kernel Memory Dump (memory.dmp) requires being uploaded to a file sharing website like OneDrive.
Then post the download link in your next reply.

Hi all,

A few days ago, i encountered a problem as some of my programs like Origin and Skype are unable to connect to internet. However i am totally able to access internet, browse to websites, watch youtube etc etc. The problem seems to be with my PC only as all the other devices on my network like mobile phones, laptops do not have this issue as i tested. Moreover, when i try to give my PC connection through laptop via Ethernet cable (laptop connected through WiFi), everything works fine.
Connecting my PC to another ISP also eliminates the problem.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm working on a friend's Toshiba Satelite L775-S7307. I've reformatted it, put on a shiny new copy of Windows 7 64bit, and installed many of the drivers required to run the hardware.

Now out of the blue, immediately when I turn on the computer, a window titled "TOSHIBA Flash Cards" pops up saying "Win8-TestVersion". You can then click OK or Cancel, both which do nothing more than close the window.

I did a search for the Flash Cards program on the computer but couldn't find anything and I have no idea how to get rid of it.

I've attached a picture of the screen immediately after being booted. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Origin of Toshiba Flash Cards?

Might be the card reader driver for the laptop. Chances are, Windows Update automatically installed what it thought was the right driver and ended up trying the Windows 8 one instead.

Go to Device Manager and see if you can see anything about the card reader there?

So I've just purchased NFS Hot Pursuit(the new one) from the Origin client. Right after the purchase I get these weird lines appear on screen(small maybe a couple pixels straight across the screen). Then I get a BSOD and a restart. I think it may be because of MSI Afterburner, but if that is the problem I need to use a different software that can support custom fan profiles/settings for my GPU. Thanks in advance.

I was instructed by someone who was helping me on here on how to produce this log so that someone can help me out.Everytime I run a SAS scan, it always detects something in one of the registry keys. It's labeled as "Unclassified.Unknown Origin". I don't know what that is. I always let SAS quarantine it everytime it is detected. Here is the exact registry key that this infection always occurs in...HKU\S-1-5-21-2775356270-2125727310-2574386005-1005\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks#{E312764E-7706-43F1-8DAB-FCDD2B1E416D} It appears that only the SAS scan is the only scanner program that detects it each time. After it's detected, I always allow SAS to quarantine/remove it, but it keeps appearing each time I run SAS. Obviously it's not quarantining/removing it like it says it is. I don't know how to prevent it from constantly appearing. I really need help with this. Here's the DDS.txt log below, and I have attached the attach.txt log...DDS (Ver_09-02-01.01) - NTFSx86 Run by ME at 21:07:43.92 on Wed 02/18/2009Internet Explorer: 6.0.2900.2180Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.2.1252.1.1033.18.2038.1631 [GMT -6:00]AV: McAfee VirusScan Enterprise *On-access scanning disabled* (Updated)============== Running Processes ===============C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunchsvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcsC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe -k WudfServiceGroupsvch... i currently have steam and origin hosting most of my games as well as guild wars 2.

With GW2 and steam. i have them on a seperate hdd and can simply run the steam and gw2 app after installing win 8 and it will auto update/setup both ready to play instead of having to redownload all my steam games and gw2 game.

Hello, I was looking for some insight and hopefully a reassuring answer since the sales dept is closed for the night.... I had bought the y570 2 weeks ago and it arrived broken so lenovo offered me a full refund since I said I would like a refund to purchase the y580 with. So Now that my y570 is on the way to the RMA department in north Carolina... I decided to go ahead and purchase the y580 and I get my tracking number and see it is being shipped to me from.......... North Carolina??? 0.o.My y570 was shipped to me from china where it was manufactured? So why would my brand new y580 come from USA? Do they build them in North Carolina or is Lenovo trying to sell me someones refurb unit for $1000?!?!?!? Please if anyone knows if they do build them in North Carolina please let me know. I already received one broken unit and hope they are not now trying to send me a pre built refurb ;(. So far the whole Lenovo experience has been nothing but thousands spent on stress.

Hi.

I bought a laptop in Hong Kong (Where I live). I managed to set Windows to English language but now it seems that everytime I download software, the software automatically installs itself in Chinese language.

This makes navigating the menus a nightmare and I usually have to get a friend to set the software to English for me.

Is there any way I can set the origin of the laptop to English?

Answer:Alterring Laptops National Origin

Click on the START button at the bottom left then on Control Panel then look for Region and Language - Click on this and a panel will open, the second tab, from the left, Location, when you click on it, will offer you a list of countries, click on the one you want, then click on Apply and OK, you also in that panel can select your keyboard if you need to change that as well.

Usually, when a virus hits my computer, I tend to know how to search for solutions because the virus usually attacks something specific or leaves a trail of sorts.  For this one, I have no idea what it's doing on/to my computer or where I got it from.  In fact, I got it when I was AFK so I definitely don't know how I got it.  All I know of it are 2 things:

1. It got rid of my System Restore option.  It doesn't just turn off System Restore, it literally got rid of the tab in System Properties.

2. When I boot up Windows normally, it gives me a black screen.  I'm not sure if it's freezing or doing something to my graphics, I don't know.  However, I can load up Safe Mode (with networking) perfectly fine.  Albeit with a much longer than usual load time.

Anyway, here are my DDS logs:

My computer is running unbearably slow - so slow that I cannot even download email without it timing out. Hopefully I'll see a reply to this message on your website since no guarantees of getting to email (I had to go to a neighbor's house to send back initial registration email). This all started with a persistent and consistent address suddenly appearing in the Automatic Configuration option under LAN settings in the Internet Options portion of Explorer. It started happening after the Nvidia display driver auto-updated. I rolled back to the older driver version with a clean reinstall. The frequency of BSOD decreased from once per hour to once per day. The zip file is attached as advised to help with debugging.

BTW, Avast thinks that the zip file making exe is a virus.

Answer:BSOD playing Dragon Age Origin

Hi DKSSG & welcome to the forums ^_^,

I am really sorry for the delayed response. Every one of the BSOD Analysts are very busy with life

Unfortunately, the ZIP file does not contain any Dump files and there is no event in Event Logs as well that a dump file was generated. Kindly follow the below guide and make sure that your system is setup for generating the dump files (Minidump Files) -
Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD - Windows 7 Help Forums

Also, see if you are able to find any dump files at the path - "C:\Windows\Minidumps". If there are any dump files, kindly ZIP them up and upload with your next post.

Does the BSOD occur only while playing Dragon Age Origins?

And regarding the Zip File making EXE a virus, that's a false positive

Is there a web site, tool, Firefox plugin, or something will allow you to spoof your country of origin so you can view web sites that are not allowed for your original country? I don't know if they do it by public IP range, ASN or what.

This could just as easily be in the Absolute Beginners section, but here goes:I'm getting BT Broadband (the most basic package with a Voyager 205 modem/router) almost entirely to play PS2 online, but will also involve a small network (PC/Printer/Phone). However, this little hive of industry will take place at the back of the house and there are no phone plugs set up currently. To get it to the back, do I need to invest in CAT5 cabling, or can I buy bog standard 20m telephone cabling?I don't want to lose any 'juice' you see.I'm well aware that I might be talking absolute drivel, so apologies in advance!D

Answer:Network & Distance from point of origin

If everything is going to be in the back, phone cabling will do. If you want the pc in the front and the PS2 in the back, get cat5e to link to the PS2.

Heya!

I seem to be getting the BSOD when playing games, most recently during a game of Dota2.

When the BSOD does occur my computer hangs and a weird, electronic - it's hard to describe - whining sound comes through the speakers.

I've run the SF_Diagnostic_Tool.exe as per the instructions. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Answer:BSOD Unable to determine origin

Hi bickas.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall the program at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :
Double click to open it.
Click this button only:

If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the “Startup” tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
I would suggest you to uninstall Viscosity Virtual Adapter V9.1, at least as a test.

On this computer, we have Origin (if you don't know already, it's EA Games' equivalent of Steam), and two accounts we use it with. One is my friend's and the other is mine. And he recently downloaded Battlefield 1942 to his account. Thing is, our internet is painfully slow (I know, sucks to use it) and it took him about 13 hours to download it. I wanted to put it on my account also to play it, but I can't figure out how to put it on my account and play it from Origin without re-downloading it.

PS: This isn't a piracy act. If you haven't heard by now, BF1942 was made free for its 10th anniversary in November

I have a co-worker with a virus on her computer. The following viruses have been detected on Norton Anti-Virus Corporate. The files show up on the scan and are unable to be cleaned. We have deleted the files and they have not come back, but the computer is still acting up. In Microsoft Outlook 2000 the program will open and the users signature will be missing. The user can add a new signature and everything works. When the user restarts the computer, the new signature is gone and the old signature has been returned. The saved favorites also disappear from Outlook and when the computer is restarted they return. In Internet Explorer 8 the user is unable to log into any web based applications. The program will give the log in screen, stop working, and shut down offering a error message. I have pasted below the norton results, IE 8 error message, and a hijack this log.Norton Results: 11/2/2009 12:11 A0016344.exe Trojan Horse10/30/2009 9:46 upgrade.exe Trojan Horse10/30/2009 9:32 isqsys32.exe Trojan Horse10/30/2009 9:24 ~TM5.tmp Trojan HorseIE 8 Error Message:AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 8.0.6001.18702 ModName: unknownModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00140194Hijack This Log:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 1:27:54 PM, on 11/2/2009Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.6001.18702)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\system32\csrss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.... I've been using uBlock for the past year and I've had no problems with it. It is in my opinion better then Adblock, It really does use less resources and has lots of configuration options. Although i did just stumble across another Adblocker called 'Adguard AdBlocker' which advertises to use even less resources then uBlock Origin and has a larger tracking filter then Ghostery and Disconnect. It really caught my eye, and i was wondering if i should switch to Adguard. Has anybody else used this extension before or is currently using it that can clarify that this is in fact better then other Adblocking extensions?

Answer:Is Adguard AdBlocker better then uBlock Origin?

I gave Adguard a test a while back but returned to using uBlock which worked better for me.

Hi. I'd like to see this youtube video which is 'blocked in your country'. The singer is popular in Germany so it seemed logical that a German proxy would work but it didn't. Is there a way of finding out which country or countries CAN see this video? Thank you.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=If2BWsxLwUQ

Answer:Youtube vids - country of origin

using this browser Epic Privacy Browser, a secure chromium-based web browser that protects your privacy and browsing history | a free VPN privacy browser and changing epic's encrypted proxy to France I was able to view the video

Hello,

Windows 10 machine on home wired 'Powerline' network.

I was recently trying to start my streaming software (Universal Media Player) to stream a video from the Desktop PC to my PlayStation 3 via wired network. I had various issues connecting when I noticed that the IP address of the application broadcast looked odd. The IP address was 169.254.99.243. I started searching around the network properties and found that I had two network adaptors. One I don't recognise: "Cisco AnyConnect VPN Virtual Miniport Adapter for Windows x64".

I immediately disabled the adaptor and the media server began working again.

I re-enabled the adaptor and restarted the computer. I checked the 'Network' section of My Computer to find a 'Phone' called 'angler' listed the properties of which stated it was a Nexus 6P - and my household doesn't have a Nexus 6P in it. I presume this could be related, or it could be another problem with an intrusion into my wireless network. The phone disappeared within a minute of me spotting it in the network and double clicking on it.

I haven't heard of something elaborate like this before - but at the moment something feels very off with this. To the best of our knowledge we have never used Cisco VPN software and we cannot trace the source of this network adaptor. There is no Cisco software installed on my machine.

Have I been hacked/infected with something?

I found answer to my own thread thought i might share with everyone. It seems like "microsoft office xp" has this features and not "microsoft office 2000". I still have a follow up question on this. Is there a way to get this feature on microsoft office 2000?

Hi, I'm a new guy.
I've had this problem just about ever since I got this pre-build PC. It comes and goes as it pleases, it seems rather random and it is a problem. The best way for me to open this topic is to explain what the problem is/what does it cause.
Nowadays after facing this problem for numerous years, I've learned to identify the problem showing up from the get-go. The problem is that when I freshly boot my PC, it oft crashes down, if I do not reboot it immediately after starting it up. For some reason restarting turned out to be the best of cures for it, apart from actually finding the problem.
What happens if I do not restart my computer, is quite annoying. More oft than not my computer will shortly (1-120 minutes after a full start-up) crash in a way that first screws up my display (Imagine displays as sections formed like this: |||, in a given order of 1, 2, 3. The way my screen gets screwed up first is that the order changes, showing up as, for example, 2, 3, 1) and soon after the screen goes into a state filled with stripes (blue and dark blue stripes, if I recall). Past this point my PC will not answer to any commands, from keyboard nor the PC itself (power button), but I have to use the kill switch (hold down power button).
After my computer has crashed by this sequence, it often takes several attempts at starting up my PC, as most of the times my keyboard and display do not get any response from the ongoing PC, once again requiring me to use ... Read more

I'm trying to fix my moms friends computer and i'm currently doing my second virus scan now (running in safe mode).

On the first scan i found 3 different trojans, but they were quarantined sucessfully. But now, on the second scan i found a trojan i found before again.

The name is:Trojan.Unknown Origin

I've been googling a bit and some other forums says it's a false positive. I just want to be 100% sure it is.

Any help appreciated.
