Putting computer in sleep mode stops viewing my connected mp3 player

Question: Putting computer in sleep mode stops viewing my connected mp3 player

Just bought Lenovo notebook with Windows 10 Home.

On my old VISTA laptop, when I put my computer in sleep mode and then woke it up, I could always view my connected MP3 player and its files.

When I do the same with my new notebook, I have to unplug and re-plug the usb connector in order to view the mp3 files.

I tried fixing by going into device manager, power management for the USB hubs, and unchecking the "allow this computer to turn off..." setting.

I alsodisabled this:
I appreciate help, thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Putting computer in sleep mode stops viewing my connected mp3 player

If you disable USB Selective Suspending and uncheck 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power', your MP3 shouldn't have any problems. Perhaps double check witch device you unchecked.

Hi, I'm having an extremely annoying problem with Google Chrome. I am trying to download large files which are taking about 3-8 hours to download. I don't have that much time, so I have to put my computer into sleep mode. Now, the problem is, I put it into sleep mode, turn it back on, Chrome says the downloads are finished. I open one of them, and it says the file is corrupt. What can be done to fix this?

I have an Acer Aspire laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium x64.

I regularly connect it to my TV monitor via HDMI cable and fall asleep watching movies (played on VLC or Windows Media Player).

I set the computer to go to sleep after 1 hour.

Multimedia Settings are set to "Allow computer to sleep" under "When Sharing Media" in the Power Management section.

Screensaver is disabled.

I have overrided my audio driver, since powercfg command suggested it may be a conflict.

If I am playing a movie without the HDMI cable plugged in, the computer goes into sleep mode right on schedule. It is only when I have the HDMI cable plugged into my TV monitor, that it refuses to enter sleep mode.

What could be causing this problem? Makes no sense to me.

Answer:Computer won't go into sleep mode when HDMI cable is connected.

I have a computer that has been working fine for the last year, but recently I've been having trouble connecting to my network.

My OS is Vista 32bit.
My router is a Versa link 327w.
My Network card is a Netgear WG311v3 (pci)

The drivers for the network card and router are up to date.

When I put my computer into sleep mode when it wakes up it says connected but I can't get on the internet, or access my local network, even though the settings are to automatically connect. Sometimes when I do try to connect (15-20%), it will say no networks found, and the only way I can get online is to reset my computer. Also, I'll get disconnected randomly, but that is very uncommon. My signal strength is 80%, and no other computers have this problem, so I'm going to assume its my network card, and ideas to try to fix this problem. If not, I'll just buy another card, but I would rather not if I don't have to. Thanks.

I recently purchased a Sony Bravia XBR55X900E tv and I connect my pc to it via HDMI.  Here's is my setup:

Dell XPS 8700 connects to HDMI 2 on Sony TV.
My TV receiver connects to HDMI 1 on Sony TV.
My Sony AVR connects to HDMI 3 on Sony TV, strictly for audio purposes (ARC).
Logitech Harmony one universal remote.

My issue is this:  Whenever I switch between activites (example PC to watching TV), after the TV switches to HDMI 1 from HDMI 2, this puts my Dell into sleep / standby mode.  If I press the power button, it lights up like normal.  If I go back to the PC activity, again once the TV switches from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2, the computer again goes into this "sleep" mode and I again have to press the power button to take it out of it.
All of my pc settings are set to NEVER with respect to monitor or PC going to sleep / standby mode.  Prior to this TV I had my pc connected to an older plasma TV and this never happened.
I contacted Sony to see if it something with their Bravia sync but the person said that everything looked good from the TV's end.
I'm hoping that someone has come across this and can steer me in the right direction as it is really frustrating and I don't know what else to try.

I just got a brand new laptop with Windows Hello. It's very useful for logging in, but my laptop now goes to sleep every time I leave my desk. The red light next to the infrared camera blinks often when I'm using my laptop (which is also pretty annoying), and then if I get up, even for a few minutes (to grab a snack, notebook, etc.) my laptop goes to sleep. I'm pretty computer illiterate, but I suspect that the camera is still looking for me while I'm using my computer and then decides my laptop needs to sleep when it doesn't see my face anymore. Is there any way to change this? I like not having to use a password, but the red light and going to sleep is annoying, especially since I tend to get up from my desk a lot just to stretch. It also seems like having the camera on all the time would drain the battery pretty quickly. Am I way off base here?

I have a HP Pavillion and want to know how to set it to go to sleep?

Answer:putting computer to sleep

HP Pavilion = laptop, correct?

Open Control Panel, Power Options icon

On Laptops there should be 2 settings; one for AC (adapter being used), the other for Battery.

Just a suggestion; for AC settings I recommend NOT to turn drives off nor Hibernate.

Also, I am not familiar with HP laptops, but some (like Toshiba) have their own laptop setup in Control Panel that includes Power Options.

I know many ppl dont like putting their pc's to sleep, but i kinda prefer it. I had this problem before with another PC and it eventually just went away. But, problem is that my mom's PC, (Dell Vostro 200, Vista 32bit), wont go to sleep when i hit the sleep feature in the startup menu. The monitor turns off, but that's it. I think the problem may be the wireless router that is hooked up to the PC. My PC would never sleep when I first hooked up my wireless router to it. But for some reason, it just started working like it should. I have it set to sleep after an hour or so, and it has never gone to sleep yet. (since i hooked up the router). I didnt know whether to post this here or hardware, but I think its a Windows issue so...Thanks for the help.

I'e read through various posts and tried a bunch of things but nothing works. All the MS updates have been applied. Im running the latest ATI GPU drivers and all the software on my machine is up to date according to Secunia PSI.
Any ideas? I've attached the mini dump.

The motherboard I'm using is a 'Gigabyte X48-DS4' with a 'Q9450' Processor with 'Windows 7 Professional' installed from fresh, not updated.

The operating system is completely updated automatically with all required updates and patches from Microsoft.

The problem I'm having is very weird, I've never seen it before.

If I put the computer to 'Sleep', it will go to 'Sleep' but when I come back and press the power button on the computer, it will continuously cycle, the computer powers on, and then powers off, and keeps doing that until I either hold the power button down (or switch it off at the power supply) and then power it back on. However, if I do this, its like a normal boot, no longer resuming from its Sleep.

Please help! Thanks!

I recently accidentally put my computer to sleep, when trying to shut it off and since then it just refuses to boot. The motherboard usually beeps when booting up but thats stopped now, the only thing that happens is the fans all run for a couple of minutes before the computer powers down on its own, theres no power going to the usb ports either as the laser on the mouse doesnt light up, neither do the lights on the keyboard, I dont get any video output at all.
The computer is custom built, and specs are:
Motherboard - Asus P5-QE
CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83GHz
Ram: 2x 2GB Kingston DDR2
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 6450 1GB
PSU: Corsair TX650w

I have tried:
using my old GPU
removing everything except the CPU and heatsink+fan
same as above but with both GPU's seperately and 1 stick of ram
rewiring the whole pc
a 700w PSU
removing 2 HDDs and booting only with the OS loaded HDD

after the above the pc still wont boot, please help me

Answer:Computer not booting after putting to sleep

UPDATE: after clearing CMOS the computer will now boot, but there are green squares where the asus logo would be when booting, it gets to a point where asks to enter bios to configure it, but then just cuts out after a few seconds when configuring bios. then it will cut off before it even reaches that point, after leaving the computer off for a few mins it will do the same thing up to configuring bios then cut off then starts and cut offs after about 3 secs until left off for a while

This is not really a problem as such, but I would like to know why this happens if someone could enlighten me.

I have a powered USB hub attached to my Acer Laptop. When I leave this attached and put the laptop into sleep mode, Windows closes down OK but the fan and hard drive keep running. If I power down the hub before entering sleep mode the laptop goes normally into sleep mode. Can anyone explain why this happens?

Hi everyone,

I left my Sony Vaio VGN-NS190D on when I left a few Fridays ago, and when I returned on Monday, it had gone to sleep by itself like it normally does. However, I've recently discovered that when it goes to sleep without me pressing the "sleep" button, when it restarts again the blue screen pops up. SO FAR, it hasn't been too serious because I am able to reboot my computer from the blue screen and the system simply restarts and everything looks normal. However, this is very troubling to be (blue screens scare the bleep out of me) so I'd like to know if anyone can recommend any actions I can take to fix this issue. It's never happened before, and if I shut down my computer or press the sleep button, the screen doesn't pop up. I also get the blue screen when I just close my computer top without hitting shut down first. I've already gotten a blue screen many many times, but somehow I feel like one of these days it'll just be a fatal error and I'll have to scrap this laptop, which I don't want to do.

I also can't tell if this is a problem with my Vaio or not, but it's fairly new so I don't really think so. I'm hoping for suggestions to fix the issue so I can stop constantly worrying that someday I'll get a complete crash and won't be able to turn on my laptop at all anymore. Also an explanation of what's happening would also be great.

Thanks in advance!

I have Windows 7 Ultimate on my home built computer. Whenever I put my computer to sleep and wake it up with the power key on my keyboard it shuts down and I have to turn off the power supply and wait 5 seconds before I turn it back on. This is irritating. Why does my computer completely shut down and how do I fix this problem? Thanks for any and all help!

Answer:Solved: waking computer after putting to sleep.

Usually when putting a computer into sleep mode pressing any key on the keyboard will wake the computer. I would recommend pressing the space bar instead of the power button in order to avoid conflicts.

My HP DV7-7135US has begun recently begun crashing while going to sleep. I've had the laptop for several years and it randomly crashed when going to sleep or hibernate. It always hangs after turning off the sound (light goes out) but before turning off the wireless/bluetooth hardware and fingerprint reader. Sent the laptop to HP, their solution was to wipe and reload it. Still had issues. Reloaded my backup image and reinstall/repaired the wireless/bluetooth software, finger print software and drivers. It finally worked ok with occasional crashes for the past year. Last week while traveling it began to crash and get the BSOD. I have tried repeating my previous repairs with no luck. I don't know what is causing the system to crash now.

I greatly appreciate any help provided. Log files attached.

My computer is running Windows 7 professional. It is a fresh install. I have a blu ray drive installed (LG BH12ls38) that works fine. However, when I put my computer to sleep and wake it back up, the drive is gone. When I go to device manager and try to scan for hardware changes it still doesn't recognize it. The only way to solve the problem is to shut down the computer. Restarting the computer doesn't help. If I restart, the computer stays on the motherboards screen for a longer period of time then it normally does (about 30 seconds). Also, it seems that this drive is affecting the computer when I shut it down. After having this problem of not being able to find the drive it seems my computer takes longer to shut down. I have installed all necessary updates for Windows and the driver is provided by Microsoft driver version - 6.1.7601.17514 and date is 6/21/2006. I called LG and they have not been able to find a solution. It seems they do not provide/have a driver and rely on microsoft's drivers. I also updated my BIOS to the newest version. I went to my local store and tried another LG drive which was older and not blu ray and it worked fine so it's not a motherboard or power issue. My computer is running in IDE mode. The reason I state that is because I saw some posts about people switching from IDE to AHCI mode to help similar problems to this. However, I talked to the technician at my local microcenter and he said this wouldn't be the issue. Sound... Read more

Answer:Blu Ray Drive disappears after putting computer to sleep

1) Does it recognize it when you insert a disc?

2) Have you tried replacing the drive with a replacement blu-ray drive?

3) One option, clearly, is not to use "sleep". While hibernation and sleep work perfectly for many, there are LOTS of folks who have various problems with one or the other (or both). Believe it or not, these functions were never 100% perfected by Microsoft (hard to do when you are dealing with all of the possible various hw & sw configurations). You can simply set the hd & display to power down after a defined period of inactivity. It should work just fine for you.

I have an HP pavilion g6 notebook laptop computer. I have recently upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. I had occasion to put my computer to sleep! I had been working on my college courses for a few hours, when I needed to take a break. I put my system to sleep, but when I returned to complete my assignments my computer would not turn on! It went to an off black screen, and locked up! When at sleep the power indicater blinked, which indicates that it was in sleep mode. When I tried to awaken my Pavillion it locked up, and the only way to regain control was to manually force it to shut down (i.e. hooded power button down.) thinking this may be due to system clutter I cleaned both user disc & system files using the Windows disk cleaning function, found through the control panel, looked for both HP updates, and Windows updates. Later I again tried to awaken my machine after putting it to sleep, and had a repeat in the inability to awaken it! A third and the last time I tried to awaken my PC from sleep I noticed that for some reason, and somehow the indicator light was solid, the screen black, and I heard my computers fan running! Can anyone give me advice as to solve this puzzle?

Is there a way to do this without putting your computer to sleep?

I'd like to be able to lock my screen and still have my files download while it's locked for example.

I've tried google and all, but all the results are for mac, and nothing is showing for PC...

Thanks guys!

Answer:lock screen without putting computer to sleep

Hi, if you mean to just lock your computer, I am asumming vista, it is pretty easy.
You will need to have the settings correct so it won't go to sleep automatically.

But if you want o have it so you need the accout password to use the computer again, just go to the Start Menu, and on the bottom right will be 2 buttons and an arrow. One button is to shut the computer down or something like that, the other is to lock the computer. You can als click the arrow and select Lock that way.

I'm not sure if the Lock optio is avaliable if you don't have a password set, so you will need to have that set.

If this is not what you were looking for, please tell me and I will try to correct it.

Win 7 64 bit, Gigabyte MB
With a USB 3.0 hub connected to a rear USB 3.0 port on MB.
When the PC goes to sleep it cannot be awaken or be started. The start button is lit. Normally when the PC is asleep the start button is not lit.
To start the PC I have to disconnect USB 3.0 hub, and do a forced shut down by pressing the start button for 5 sec.
I start anew the PC, get the screen with the different startup options, and select start windows normally. The PC will start w/o a problem.
If I do not disconnect the USB 3.0 hub the PC will not start.
This did not happen with a USB 2.0 hub to the same USB 3.0 port
Note that the USB 3.0 hub is new.

Any recommendations are appreciated.

Answer:Pc does not wake after sleep mode with usb 3.0 hub connected

Hi yannisg, welcome to the Forum.

It seems the new USB 3.0 hub is either faulty or is causing problems.

Is this hub self powered or does it rely on the the USB port for power. If it is relying on the USB port for power, then how may devices do you have plugged into the hub itself?.

Hello everyone, I just purchased a new Dell Inspirion laptop about a week ago. Right out of the box it connected to wifi with no problems. I noticed the second day however that sometimes after it was in sleepmode(lid shut) it sometimes cannot connect to my router until I shut my computer down completely and restart. It can see the router, but it is unable to connect completely. I don't think it is the wifi card because the drivers are up to date and I can connect to an unsecured router in the area with no problems. It almost always works after a complete shutdown.

If anyone has some info or things to try it would be very appreciated.

I use my computer as HTPC, so I always use sleep mode. In last few days it wakes up through the nights and doesn't react for anything, so I need to shut it down by starter button. Then, I have to reset my BIOS, because if not, my PC starts, but doesn't react for anything too. I'm testing sleep mode now and I can see that after two-three times, PC starts waking up immediately after I try to sleep it and is totally dead as after night wakes.Last night, I've just shut my PC down and everything was good, but it works for years as HTPC, so sleep mode is much more comfortable.Do you have any ideas?

I bought an ASUS G73JH gaming laptop 2 months ago and just started getting this random, inexplicable error. It's happened twice this last week and I have lost a considerable amount of unsaved work because of it.

What happened the first time was I put my laptop to sleep in order to do something else and when I came back it had shut down by itself. After booting it back up the first thing that was displayed was the window in the images above. I don't know if my computer actually had a BSOD before it shut down because I was not there to see what happened.

Second time this happened, I just left my computer at idle without putting it to sleep and left the room. My laptop is configured to go to screensaver after 10 minutes and sleep after 15. When I came back this time, my power button was not blinking, meaning the computer was not asleep, but the monitor had shut off and could not be turned back on with the monitor on/off toggle. I had to manually restart the computer by holding the power button, and when it booted back up again the same window appeared. Yet again, I don't know if my computer actually had a BSOD because this time the monitor was turned off.

Any ideas?

P.S. My system specs are in the sig below and I've attached the requisite .zip file. No components are overclocked or otherwise modified at the hardware or software level. This is the OEM version of Windows 7 that was pre-installed on my system but I did a reformat right after I got the computer.

The .nfo file you uploaded is corrupted.

Please upload your msinfo32.nfo file. To get this: Start Menu -> Type msinfo32 into the Search programs and files box -> When it opens, go to File, Save -> Save as msinfo32.nfo and save in a place you will remember -> Let it finish the process of gathering and saving the system info -> Right click the .nfo file, click send to compressed (zipped) folder -> Upload the .zip file here.

Please upload your msinfo32.txt file. Recently I have been having problems with shutting down and putting my computer to sleep. I do not know the cause nor have I had this problem before. I sadly do not have the stop code parameter information but I do have the files made by the dm collector. All I know about this code is that it may be a memory leak, which I do not know how to fix.

Hello and Welcome to SevenForums

This one can be a little tricky to solve because i've had it and it's annoying and took me a while to fix, anyways lets get to troubleshooting.

The dumpfile was unhelpful.

I have a Port?g? Z10t-A computer running Windows 8.1 that's touchpad stops working intermittently after coming out of standby.

I have tried upgrading to the latest firmware "HID\VID_0930&PID_0807&REV_3;00&MI_01&Col01" as suggested in a previous post but this has made no difference.

Any ideas on how this can be resolved?

I think you are speaking about this firmware update

This has improved the keyboard performance switching between the tablet and notebook mode.

In your case I would recommend installing the newest version of Synaptics driver.

I have a Prot?g? Z10A and the touchpad and keyboard intermittiently stops working after sleep mode. I cannot wake it up or restart without re-booting.

I have done the update to the firmware keyboard docker as advised in a thread on January 2014 but this has not helped the problem.
This computer is only 2 weeks old.

I have been to download site and updated all drivers and updates.
The computer works perfectly except for this problem.

When the tablet is asleep the white led is blinking, and when it is all works ok, but if the light for some reason is not blinking but permanently lit then it will not restart and I have to re-boot the tablet.

I have disabled the hibernation mode in options but still no help.

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Portege Z10t-A - touchpad intermittiently stops working after sleep mode

I?m wondering if the option (within the BIOS) called Wake-Up on Keyboard is enabled.
To restore the operation of the computer from sleep mode, press the power button or any key on the keyboard dock for a short amount of time. But the keyboard keys can only be used if the mentioned option is enabled.

Note: when the notebook is in Sleep Mode, the power indicator will blink white. If the power indicator does not blink white, the notebook isn?t set to sleep mode!

I've recently noticed after upgrading to WIn10 version 1703, that when the laptop comes out of sleep mode, the cursor on the secondary u2715 screen keeps blinking with a blank screen, and the display on the laptop remains black. The only way to restore the screen desktop is to either
1. disconnect the displayport cable from the laptop and then reconnect it, 2. Turn the external monitor off/on3. Enter the menu of the monitor and switch between DP 1.2 Disable/Enable.
I should mention the laptop is up to date with all updates.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,

Hi, I'm having problems on a system with a gigabyte MA78GM-US2H and a amd 9850 quad. The computer works fine but after I install symantec I can no longer get the computer to go to sleep, It just reboots and starts up again. When I remove it, the computer can go to sleep again. I have updated all of the drivers and the mobo bios but the problem is still here. Any ideas on what to do next? or maybe is there a free virus program out there I could use instead? I would rather not have to buy something different if I can avoid it. Thanks

Answer:Problems with Symantec and sleep mode, computer reboots instead of going to sleep

What program do you mean by "Symantec?" Symantec makes a ton of different antivirus softwares, among other things. Most of them are a pain in the ass, and your computer is better off without them. I think a lot of the guys on this forum recommend NOD32. I typically recommend Trend Micro, but to be honest I don't use any AV on my own machine. Be smart with your surfing, don't open attachments, and run a firewall. Makes it pretty damn hard to get a virus!

Ok so this is the computer was working perfectly fine then all of a sudden it just stopped responding. when i restart my computer with out being connected to internet access everything works just fine. soon as I turn on my wifi it just stops responding nothing will open it wont let me do anything at all it just totally freezes. If i restart it in safe mode with networking it will work just fine and if i log onto another account on my computer that will work just fine also. Ive ran AVG several times and the first couple of times it found a few things and erased them, now if i run it it says my compuer is clean. I also ran malwarebytes several times and the same thing happened with that. It found a few things the first time and cleaned them up and now it says nothing is wrong. Also I have a few windows updates that won't download, they keep saying that the install failed and asks me if I want to try again. I have no idea what else to do and I don't want to wipe my computer out and reinstall windows because I will loose all my pictures and music. Can anyone help me at all?

As a first step, beg, borrow or steal an external hard drive and back up your data. Or else burn it to DVDs. This will at least protect your data.
It's weird that it should only happen on one user account on your computer, it suggests a conflict inside that account. What do you mean when you say "You turn on your wi-fi" ?  On most computers the wi-fi turns on automatically as you boot them. If you mean when you open a browser to go on-line, then I would suggest uninstalling the browser and reinstalling it.
If you mean that you only plug in / turn on / connect your wi-fi from time to time, the problem might be with your networking software. In which case I would suggest  uninstalling your network drivers and go to the manufacturer for the latest ones ( you may need to use someone else's computer for this bit ! ) and download and install the latest drivers for your networking equipment. You don't say if you are using a laptop, desktop or what, but
the manufacturer of your laptop, if it is one, should have the latest drivers, and if you are using a wireless dongle, as I do in my desktop, its manufacturer should be able to supply the newest drivers.
Een if worst comes to the worst, and you have to do a complete re-install, then Step 1 will protect your data.
Good luck,
Chris Cosgrove

Before I start, I'd like to say, I know almost nothing about computers, as my name suggests, so you may have go slow for me.

So I have an old toshiba which I basically just use to torrent, it's on windows 7. My problem is when it's connected to the internet it slows down ALOT. It takes a few minutes to open the Start menu, and even longer for things like network and sharing centre. Something's it just refuses to do, like opening Chrome, the other day it an hour to open an Ebook reader.

This only happens when i connect to the Internet, and I've scanned it offline with AVG multiple times, so I don't think I have a virus. I've tried "defragmenting " the hard drive, but the analyses said it was only 1% fragmented. I brought it a year ago second hand from a friend who had had it for about 4 years already at least, I didn't wipe it and I'm not sure if my friend ever did so I suppose I'll have to do that, but I want to know
A:if there's an easier way
B:if wiping it will even fix it

Answer:Computer Basically stops working when connected to the inter

you likely have malware or virus , as using torrents may give you this issue
we can look into cleaning up the PC , and checking if its virus/malware free -but you would need to remove all the torrent software

Hello Seveners!

I have been having trouble with a BSOD for a while now. It is getting to that extent that I bare it any longer! I need help!

Firstly, these BSOD's have been happening randomly, but normally the case is while it is in sleep, or when I put it to sleep, the screen will go black, but the laptop will refuse to actually sleep. It remains in this state of useless on-ness until either I pull the plug or it decides to BSOD.

I have a program called Soluto, which sends the details of the BSOD to my email. It said the error code was 1000009F and the likely cause was: nt driver.

I ran verifier.exe and restarted. Upon restarting I was constantly greeted by a BSOD informing me that there was a problem with HIDCLASS.SYS. Upon restarting with last known good configuration, I am here, looking for help! There are 6 results for HIDCLASS.SYS on my laptop, all seeming to point to AMD.

I have attached my Minidumps from today (two BSODes), my system NFO and a picture taken of the BSOD when booting after running verifier.exe. They are zipped as one, due to the fact that uploading of NFO files doesn't seem to be supported.

This is getting increasingly infuriating as I am constantly losing work!

System specs can be found on my profile and in the NFO.

I appreciate any help!

Many thanks,

Answer:Numerous BSOD's. Normally caused while in sleep / putting to sleep.

What USB devices have you got installed?

I believe we are looking at a USB device causing a bugcheck.
Do you have a gaming mouse or any mouse drivers installed?

HIDCLASS.SYS appears to be mainly caused by mouse drivers.

Because a lot of driver power state failures are caused by graphics drivers I recommend updating yours as it is very outdated.
Here's some instructions if you are unsure how to update it.

My new laptop has recently started freezing for no reason. It only freezes and stops responding when I'm connected to the Internet but when I turn off the wifi it won't freeze. I like to put my computer on sleep so I can just come back to where I left it, but the past few days when I put it on sleep the screen would just go black like it was asleep, but the computer was still on and running like I didn't put it in sleep. Then when I move the mouse to come out of sleep it says "locking computer" and goes to my password screen (which is what it should do before going to sleep). I don't think its in the power settings because I've checked there and played around with the settings (I'm not technically challenged so I don't think it's something that simple lol).

Also, my touchpad scroll feature does not work (and has not worked for quite some time). It comes back when I turn the computer off and on again, but I only do that a few times a week. I've tried reinstalling the touchpad firmware so that isn't the problem.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A215.

Answer:Computer Doesn't Sleep When In Sleep Mode

When we add images in Nero (I don't know about other apps), it takes a very long time, since there are a large number of files; with a video file, it doesn't take any time. Then, during the burn process also, it takes up more time. I have tried burning photos only once: I decided that one folder with some 5000 photos would not be good, so I started making 100 MB folders, with varying number of photos; then I got tired and started making two and three hundred MB photos. Finally, I burned a 200 MB folder first, and it went smootly, so then I added 2.5 GBs, and started the burn (on a 4.4 GB disk), and it took a very long time, and then Nero stopped responding - at the point where it says writing short burn out (or whatever, at the end), it clogged up, and there was no activity from the DVD drive, the light wasn't blinking, but the hard disk light was going on furiously, and the Nero dialog box was showing not responding with the mouse cursor changing to 'wait' (sandbox) when taken upon it. Finally, after almost fifteen minutes, it threw out the disc, and gave the message that the burn process was successfully over. When I opened the disc, everything was there, but when I started Nero again to fill in the rest of the disc, and went to add files, it showed the disc as empty, that there were no files in it. I still have the disc; I can open and view the files, but if I try to run it in Nero, it shows the disc as empty.

So my question is, is there any par... Read more

HiI am trying to get support to fix my laptop, a Lenovo T430S. When I put my laptop to sleep, it crashes and doesn't recover from the sleep mode. I have updated most of the drivers involved with network, power management, and USB. I have copy and pasted the BSOD crash report - which shows TCPIP.SYS a isnd NTOSKRNL.EXE involved in a Drive_Power_State_Failure. I feel that some of the drivers are corrupted. For the past week my computer has been acting odd. Here is what happens

1. Sometimes when i turn on the CPU, the light will either turn blue, flash blue, or wont be on at all. When this happens ( no matter what the light does ), I can hear the fans/drives, and my monitor goes on, but there is nothing on the screen. I usually fix this by turning off my power strip, and then turning it back on or hold the power button on my CPU.

2. When i reboot, my computer doesn't fully shut down. Windows Logs off, and I am left with a blank monitor, with my CPU still on ( if I just turnoff the power button and then back on it stays the same, CPU on, nothing on screen.

3. When my computer goes into sleep mode, pressing keys/moving or clicking the mouse doesn't "wake it up".

I am using Windows XP Media Center SP2

Can someone help me?

Well I recently installed a new motherboard, it was the same as the old one but I was convinced the old one was fried. Now I am trying to reinstall everything, only when ever I boot and try to install, it says I have a disc read error. This is understandable because the drive was previously formatted for a NAS system. So I go into the BIOS and change it to boot from the CD rom first, so I can install windows and reformat I save it, and exit. This is where the problem begins. The computer does not restart, or shut down, but goes into sleap mode, and wont come out of it. So I am forced to turn the computer off, and then the BIOS does not recognize the changes, and the process is repeated with the same ending. Could you help me understant why it would do this?

There shouldn't be any problems with leaving it running, but it is not recommended as it is a waste of power.

I can't get windows to go to sleep on its own, per settings under power management. It will sleep just fine if I put it that way manually, and it wakes out of sleep just fine. In fact, my Windows Home Server wakes it up to run backups every night. The problem is, my computer won't put itself back to sleep.

No password required after coming out of sleep.

I have very little software installed... NOD32 EVEREST ultimate 4.6, WoW, BlackBerry desktop (set not to come on unless I start it), TuneUp Utilities, and drivers for my logitech mouse and microsoft keyboard.

I've had all these, except the blackberry software, installed in the past without trouble. The blackberry is powered off and the related software is shut down when all this happens, so I'm thinking its NOT the blackberry.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I spilt coffee on my laptop keyboard recently.
Some keys don't work and it doesn't stay in sleep.
(I really must fix it sometime)
Maybe you have a stuck key or something?
Set to sleep mode and pull keyboard cable out immediately to check.
(you'll have to reboot to get keyboard working again)
I am sure there are lots of other causes too.

I have a hp Pavilion f1503 desktop. It was working fine last night, but now I connot get it out of sleep mode. When I turn it on, it says "PC entering sleep mode 'REDGREENBLACK'" (that is written underneath it; each colored with the corrisponding numbers). Then the screen goes black. The only way to get out of it is to press the sleep mode button (the half moon) on my keyboard. Then it will come on for about 3 seconds and then go black again. I looked up the issue, but couldn't really find a solution to the problem. I tried force restart, making sure all connections were secured, unplugging eveything and plugging everything back, pressing f9 on startup for diagnostics, running it in safemode, etc. Everything ends the same- with the screen coming on for a few seconds and then going into sleep mode again. I noticed the last time it came on that the color was distorted. It looked orange-ish. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Is it my motherboard? Some people said dust in the modem. Some people said the graphics card needed replacing. I am not completely non tech savvy. I am pretty good with this stuff, but I am stumped

Answer:Computer into sleep mode

If you have a reset button on your case, press it. If not, hold down the power button for five seconds, wait a short while, and turn the computer back on.

Does your computer run again after this?

Can anyone help me with the following? I recently went wireless and since then I have been unable to put my computer to sleep! It will go into hybrid sleep but I don't always want to use this option. I'm running Vista home premium and my router is a Netgear WGR614. Would I have to change any settings in the router software? I have gone into power settings on PC and as far as I can see everything is set as it should be? Any help/advice would be appreciated!

Answer:Putting PC to sleep!

you probably need to goto the optios for yuor wireless device and select the "allow vista to turn off this device to save power" option and / or unselect the "allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" option

So, my computer is about 2.5 years old and I have been facing massive problems with flashplayer.

The issue is this: Whenever I run videos with my favorite drama's, the video player would then stop loading cause the whole screen to freeze whilst still being able to move my mouse. Then the computer would turn black and restart and tells me that I need to insert a new boot device or boot media in order to boot up my computer. So What is the problem here? I have downgraded flash player beta 12.0 to 11.9 and I have defrag my computer. Usually, mozilla firefox would tell me, the shockwave flashplayer plugin has crashed and allows me to refresh, but it has become so alarmingly frequent that every other video I view would result in me needing to Hard reset my computer by turning off the sockets.

Continued usage would cause me to freeze every half an hour of usage even after resetting. The question is am i overheating, something too? It all started when other programs im running concurrently with the video stopped responding and my computer keeps freezing before it restarts itself. I was running flash games that were downloaded.

How do I fix this?

Answer:Computer Restarts when Video Stops Loading/ Flash Player Crashes

first of all id try a non Beta version of flash. make sure its the x64 bit version and not the 32bit. For some unknown reason the automatic flash update always downloads the 32bit version for me..
Next id update all of you drivers (most important GPU and chipset) this will eliminate any driver conflicts that may pop up.

I've had this problem intermittently on my laptop for the past 2 years however it has been occuring more often recently.

Basically sometimes when I click the sleep button on Windows 7, the screen fades to black as usual. However the fan keeps running (sounds like when it's on full load) and the power button light stays on endlessly. I always have to force shut it down and restart it.

What can be the issue?

Answer:Laptop freezes between entering sleep mode to being in sleep mode

Hi joseph10444.

Such a situation may occur when some driver (mostly the PnP device drivers depending on the ACPI configuration) fail to response within a stipulated time period during the power state change.

Let us see some data. Upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.
Upload the list of all the third party drivers Using NirSoft DriverView :
Download and execute Driverview
View > Hide Microsoft Drivers
Edit > Select all
File > Save Selected Items
In the Save dialog, Set the path to desktop, Put "Driverview" in the name field, and save.
Zip the .txt file and upload it.
Those files will give us a closer look to the issue.

I actually have two problems. First, when I try to restart the computer after hybernation, I get a blue screen with error listings. I have to shut down and reboot, sometimes more than once before I can restart Windows.
2. I have a Nokia Lumia phone that uses Zune to connect to my computer; however, I get an error message in Zune that says that 'My video hardware isn't compatible with Zune' but, I can't find the video hardware in Device Manager.

Answer:Computer crashes after sleep mode

The video hardware is under 'Display adapters'. Click on the '+' sign at the side of 'Display adapters' and it will open up to show you your video hardware, and indicate if there are any problems with it.
Apart from that, it is a little difficult to help much further without knowing what sort of computer you have. So - make and model please and what version of Windows you are running. And, once you find it in 'Device manager' - what video card have you got ?

I'm on Windows 7, and just recently, I've been unable to keep my computer in sleep mode. It only stays in the mode for about a minute, and then it randomly pops back on. I'm not sure why it's doing this. It's been staying in sleep mode just fine up until recently. I haven't installed any new programs, or changed anything like that, so I can't imagine that's an issue... So what the heck is the problem?

Answer:Computer won't stay in sleep mode...

Hi -

Check Reliability Monitor for recent installation/ update activity -
START | type perfmon /rel

Event Viewer - see what events lead up to the system waking 1 minute after sleep -
START | type eventvwr.msc | Custom Views | Administrative Events

not sure if im in the right forum, but maybe you guys can help me out.

Past couple of days when i leave my computer idle for a while ive had problems getting the monitor to come back on.

normally it would go to screen saver after a while, then go into sleep mode after that. the screen's button would turn from green to orange, and whnever id come back, id just move the mouse and the screen would turn back on.

now the screen remains black. i can hear the computer loading back up, but the monitor doesn't show it, so i have to hard reboot the pc. it's happened 3 times this weekend after never happening before.

also, and i dont know if it's related, but all of a sudden all my icons are hidden in my taskbar. the network connection icon (the two little monitors) isn't even in the list anymore. it was one of only 3 i had set to "show" with the volume and something else, but now only the volume is there.

appreciate the help.

Check Windows Event Viewer to see if Windows is logging any errors. Try using System Restore to go back to a time before the trouble began.

I did the cmos thing-it failed. Out of frustration, I powered off, unplugged, held the power button down to drain capacitors. Then powered back up and as it was lighting up I kept hitting the power button fairly rapidly, while yelling "wake up < removed by moderator - not required - ETAF > and the beeper went off and I was back in business. I'm not sure if the yelling did it or the power buttlon, but it worked.

It does this every once in a while. It happened twice in the past 2 days. I'm not sure if it's something I left open before going into sleep mode or something else.

So the computer's been in sleep mode, usually for at least an hour. I do the usual thing to wake it up, move the mouse. After a simple movement fails, I try again, moving vigorously and clicking all the mouse buttons. I have also tried pressing all the keys on my keyboard.

None of this works and I have to restart the computer. Any idea why this could be happening?

Answer:Computer won't wake from Sleep Mode

Generally it's the result of a driver power management problem. Most commonly occurring when you have been forced to use a vista driver in place of a proper win 7 driver, as power states have changed a bit between the two.

My new pc will not enter sleep mode, nor will it hibernate. I have already went into the device manager and unchecked anything that would wake the computer up, including the usb ports. The computer store that custom built if for me can't fine the problem and told me to, "just fiddle with it"

I rarely surf the net with it so I'm sure there are no viruses, and this problem occurred right out of the box.

When i attempt to enter sleep mode, the screen goes blank, monitor shuts down and then the computer starts to run real hard. Then everything comes back on in seconds.

My specs:
Asus mobo
2GB Corsair RAM
Nvidia GeForce 9600 gt GPU
intel dual core e5200 CPU
Asus optical drive
logitec keyboard, labtec mouse both wired to front usb ports
Please help my comuter is basically always running and that can't be good

Answer:Computer will not go into Sleep mode or Hibernate

What happens in Hibernate? The same thing?

I think you might have *PROCESSES* that don't allow it to sleep. You might also not have the necessary system files either. Do you keep anything up or running when you attempt to sleep it?

On my HP Pavilion 500-267c I have used Windows 10 64-bit for several months without a problem.  After a Windows upgrade a couple of months ago, I cannot wake the computer up.  After a long while, sometimes days long, it will suddenly awaken and all is well until the next time I put it to sleep (which I now avoid, of course) or when there is a neighborhood power failure, as happened last night, and it goes off.   When I try to restart it, the monitor stays dark and the white light near the power button goes on and off constantly -- making me think it is sleeping.  I have tried a hard reset and it doesn't help.   Please tell me what else I can do.  Waiting forever for it to wake itself up is unsatisfactory, to say the least.   H E L P, please.  THANKS!!  --John

Hi guys.

My laptop is really starting to irritate me. Whenever it get's in sleep mode I have no other choice then to wait for the bluescreen or to restart it...

I've been using Bluescreen view and tried to solve the problem myself and it seemed that to different files where causing the problem. I think I've fixed the problem with athrx.sys with installing a new driver to my wireless card, cut the ntoskrnl.exe I can't seem to figure out.

Answer:BSOD while computer in sleep mode.

I do think that the updates for the wireless card should have fixed your problem, the reason ntoskrnl was being blamed is because often times the actual driver at fault will make calls to the system kernel (ntoskrnl) and cause it to do things it shouldn't do and thus is blamed for the problem.

Running Win7 home prem 64bit.
Some times after the PC has been in sleep mode and I push the power button to wake it up.
I can here the fan start up and then slow down and then speed up and then down and just keeps doing this. After about 2 min's I try-ed to power down by holding in on the power button but it does not go down. I need to pull the plug to power off. Has any one seen this before and found a way to fix it?

Answer:Computer not coming out of sleep mode

Do you have any devices such as printer, external HDDs etc plugged into this PC, if so disconnect them to test if they are the cause of this issue,

Turn off Hybrid Sleep as it can cause issues with some hardware/drivers and instruction HERE

See if that helps, if not let us know, then we can try something else.

Hi guys, I have my computer power settings on high. I also set it to never turn off / sleep / hibernate, EVER.

But recently its been going into sleep mode after about an hour and half.

Not only does it go into sleep mode, but I cannot get it out of sleep mode by moving my mouse or pressing a button on my keyboard! The fans and everything are on, but the monitor stays off!!!

The only way I can get back to my desktop is to manually shut down my computer and restart it.

Why is it doing this???? It's so frustrating because I need my computer to stay on for 3-4 hours at a time but it keeps going into sleep mode.

please help!

Answer:computer turns itself on when in sleep mode

Your network connections may be interfering with Sleep Mode - check the settings.

1. Go to Start, type Device Manager and then press Enter
2. Expand Network adapters
3. Right click a network adapter and then click Properties.
4. Click Power Management
5. Make sure the box, Allow this device to wake the computer is NOT TICKED.

Apply this to all network adapters.

I often put my computer in Sleep mode - as a matter of fact I changed the Power button to say Sleep instead of Shut Down.
Just recently it started coming on all on its own even though I'm nowhere near it.
This will happen at different time intervals after I put it to sleep, no pattern, sometimes 10 minutes later sometimes 2 hours.... just depends.

Any ideas what could be going on?

Answer:Computer starts during sleep mode

Not sure really, but just as a suggestion you might check your BIOS settings to see whats going on. It may be wake on LAN or other settings there that could cause this. Or could something be bumping your mouse/keyboard? (cat, kids, etc.)
